- 0:00What if the distractions and frustrations we face in serving God are actually
- 0:04opportunities for His greater purpose?
- 0:08Hey everyone, welcome back to the Couples Journey blog series podcast.
- 0:12We're on part 3 of the series, Stepping Off the Hamster Wheel.
- 0:16Today, Ray is reflecting on the story of Martha and Mary, and how Satan can
- 0:21use our differences to steer us away from wholeheartedly serving Christ.
- 0:25Stay with us as we explore how God's grace guides us back to what truly matters. Here's Ray.
- 0:33Luke 10, verses 41 to 42.
- 0:36But the Lord answered and said to her, Martha, Martha, you are worried and bothered
- 0:42about so many things, but only one thing is necessary.
- 0:47For Mary has chosen the good part which shall not be taken away from her.
- 0:54Although we're all familiar with the story of Martha and Mary,
- 0:57every time it comes to mind, we
- 1:00can still glean valuable lessons that are applicable to our lives today.
- 1:05Yes, we see different intentions of the sisters, but those motives were rooted
- 1:12in their sincere love for Jesus Christ.
- 1:15Their disagreement is actually a great reminder for us How Satan can use our
- 1:21differences to tempt us and distract us from wholeheartedly serving Christ,
- 1:27from false assumptions to laziness.
- 1:30Satan can plant thoughts in our minds that influence how we view our spouse
- 1:36or others, especially in our service to God.
- 1:41Annie and I have also experienced this. We have shared and accepted different
- 1:46skills and gifts that God blessed us with.
- 1:50It took us a while to understand and embrace unity despite our differences.
- 1:57We both genuinely desire to serve and do our best for God.
- 2:01But frustration happens when things don't go as planned.
- 2:06Only by God's grace are we able to bounce back and have honest conversations
- 2:13and keep moving forward, especially when Satan tries to tempt us or discourage us.
- 2:21Learning this rhythm and improving our responses took time. And it's a challenge
- 2:27we face even more when dealing with others.
- 2:32A few years ago, we had the opportunity to host an event.
- 2:36As designated lead contact, we were excited to serve God and support fellow missionaries.
- 2:43But the pressures to gather volunteers and organize everything wasn't easy.
- 2:48And Satan definitely didn't like that.
- 2:51I saw how some team members dedicated themselves, going beyond what was expected,
- 3:00while others maintained boundaries and focused on their tasks.
- 3:04During that time, Annie and I felt Martha's frustration and anxiety rising.
- 3:12My facial expression probably gave away my inner tensions, which is an area I still need to work on.
- 3:21That experience opened many lessons for both of us.
- 3:25By God's grace and those dedication, the event was a success.
- 3:31And it taught us a lot about what to do differently next time.
- 3:37Serving Jesus isn't easy. It requires patience, perseverance,
- 3:42and the help of the Holy Spirit.
- 3:44And working with people who have different perceptions of doing quality service
- 3:50before God can be easily challenging.
- 3:55Sometimes, even showing on our faces, Annie and I have learned to value every
- 4:02detail of our work when we anchor our service to God.
- 4:06He is our CEO, our boss, whom we offer every effort, skills.
- 4:13Talent, and trust it to us in everything we do.
- 4:17We keep our focus on Colossians 3, verses 23 to 24.
- 4:23Whatever you do, work heartily as for the Lord, not for men,
- 4:29knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward.
- 4:34It is the Lord Christ whom you serve.
- 4:37For this week's theme, let's reflect in the areas where God has helped us grow,
- 4:43how He shifted our perception from serving out of obligation to offering our best for Him.
- 4:51At the same time, let's prayerfully identify areas where we still need improvement.
- 4:58May the biblical truths we're learning encourage us to make necessary changes
- 5:04so that our service is no longer driven by busyness, but is pleasing to God.
- 5:13Before we close, we want to invite you to engage with us and support the Couples

- 5:41Here's the final part of today's episode.
- 5:46Thank you for joining Ray as we examine how our service to God can be hindered
- 5:50by worries or distractions, and how His grace helps us stay focused on what's most important.
- 5:56Remember, serving Jesus requires patience and perseverance, but it's all worth
- 6:01it when we do our best for Him.
