Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: Hey, guys, we are back on the normal and the
- 0:03Speaker 1: show normal. It takes them when the news gets weird.
- 0:06Speaker 1: I am Mary Cathern.
- 0:07Speaker 2: And I'm Carol Markowitz. How's it going, Mary Catherine?
- 0:10Speaker 1: It's all right.
- 0:11Speaker 3: I have like truly transitioned to old lady Mother's day.
- 0:15Speaker 1: I was like, what do I want? I want socks.
- 0:19Speaker 3: I want really nice, really nice socks, and so I
- 0:22Speaker 3: made my husband order me really nice socks.
- 0:25Speaker 4: I love it. I didn't even know they make really
- 0:27Speaker 4: nice socks.
- 0:27Speaker 1: Yeah, you gotta.
- 0:28Speaker 3: You gotta up your game at some point to the
- 0:31Speaker 3: to the good stuff. So I'm going full bombus and features.
- 0:35Speaker 3: So none of this, None of these departments store target
- 0:38Speaker 3: socks for me anymore.
- 0:40Speaker 1: Right, right, you're fancy now, I'm fancy. Now. I deserve it.
- 0:44Speaker 2: Mine is like a ten pack from Amazon, and my
- 0:47Speaker 2: husband and I wear the same socks.
- 0:49Speaker 1: I do. See.
- 0:50Speaker 3: This is why, this is why I upgraded, because I
- 0:52Speaker 3: found myself going to his collection because his were nice mine.
- 0:59Speaker 1: And I was like, you gotta upgrade me to whatever
- 1:00Speaker 1: you're using over here. So there we are.
- 1:04Speaker 2: The Supreme Court has overturned a lower court ruling that
- 1:07Speaker 2: had said that the Trump administration had to allow transgender
- 1:11Speaker 2: people into the military. The Supreme Court said, no, they don't.
- 1:16Speaker 2: The lower court was a three judge panel and it
- 1:19Speaker 2: was a Clinton appointee, an Obama appointee, and a Biden appintee.
- 1:23Speaker 2: So they all were against the Commander in chief having
- 1:28Speaker 2: the final say as to who gets into the military,
- 1:31Speaker 2: and the Supreme Court said no, actually, no, the president
- 1:35Speaker 2: does have final.
- 1:36Speaker 4: Say on that. People are predictably losing their minds.
- 1:40Speaker 2: CNN compared it to Trump possibly banning black people from
- 1:45Speaker 2: the military, but.
- 1:47Speaker 4: That's obviously absurd.
- 1:49Speaker 2: There's a lot of people who don't qualify for military service,
- 1:54Speaker 2: individuals with felony convictions, certain medical conditions, history of drug use.
- 1:59Speaker 4: All of that.
- 2:00Speaker 2: You could have dental problems and not be allowed into
- 2:03Speaker 2: the military. So I think that the goal of the
- 2:07Speaker 2: Pete Hegseth Defense Department and the President are to have
- 2:12Speaker 2: a cohesive military and to have a strong military, and
- 2:17Speaker 2: they didn't feel that having transgender people serve in the
- 2:23Speaker 2: military was a good idea. Again, they have the final
- 2:26Speaker 2: say on that, and here we are.
- 2:28Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, the military and the Commander in Chief
- 2:33Speaker 3: obviously have the power to set medical.
- 2:36Speaker 1: Standards for entrance to the military. I just this one
- 2:41Speaker 1: is this one is like a crazy one boys and
- 2:44Speaker 1: women's sports.
- 2:45Speaker 3: It's like, right, this is just a practical way of
- 2:49Speaker 3: doing things because the original ban says the Department explained
- 2:58Speaker 3: that the medical, surgical, and mental health constraints on individuals
- 3:01Speaker 3: who have a current diagnosis, or history of, or exhibit
- 3:04Speaker 3: symptoms with gender dysphoria are incompatible with the high mental
- 3:07Speaker 3: and physical standards necessary for military service.
- 3:12Speaker 1: There's that exactly.
- 3:13Speaker 3: There's the outlay for medical care for those who have
- 3:17Speaker 3: this kind of diagnosis that is ongoing. Because this is
- 3:20Speaker 3: specifically they've specifically mentioned, like people who've had medical intervention,
- 3:26Speaker 3: that care must continue, exactly, and at that point it
- 3:29Speaker 3: is on the taxpayer, and it is on those units
- 3:32Speaker 3: to deal with the people who are in them. And yes,
- 3:37Speaker 3: this does present different issues than a person who comes
- 3:42Speaker 3: in like like you said, there's like dental problems in
- 3:44Speaker 3: flat feet that will disqualify you from the military. This
- 3:48Speaker 3: is certainly this is of another level.
- 3:50Speaker 2: That's right, And so it also presents issues for deployment,
- 3:55Speaker 2: for example, if they don't get the care that they need.
- 3:58Speaker 2: And the thing is that a lot of this comes
- 4:01Speaker 2: down to you're not allowed to discriminate on the basis race, color, religion,
- 4:05Speaker 2: national origin, sex, sexual orientation, et cetera.
- 4:11Speaker 4: Gender identity is.
- 4:12Speaker 1: Kind of a new one.
- 4:13Speaker 2: It's not actually one of the ones that.
- 4:17Speaker 4: We traditionally know.
- 4:20Speaker 2: So I don't know that this is going to be
- 4:22Speaker 2: able to continue in other facets, either in other parts
- 4:26Speaker 2: of society either. I think the military is the obvious one.
- 4:29Speaker 2: But discriminating by gender identity is something that just makes
- 4:34Speaker 2: no sense. You can change your gender identity at any second,
- 4:37Speaker 2: of course, so.
- 4:38Speaker 3: The rules there's an internal contradiction here, which is that
- 4:41Speaker 3: generally we protect against discrimination for immutable characteristics.
- 4:47Speaker 4: That's right.
- 4:48Speaker 1: If your gender.
- 4:49Speaker 3: Is eminently mutable, meaning you can change it from day
- 4:54Speaker 3: to day and where your ring or your bracelet to
- 4:56Speaker 3: signal whichever pronouns you're using that day, Discriminating against that
- 5:03Speaker 3: is not an immunimal characteristic. So there is an inherent
- 5:06Speaker 3: contradiction in here, as there as there often is with
- 5:08Speaker 3: trans engender ideology. Right, and it doesn't it doesn't work.
- 5:14Speaker 4: That's right. So I think the Supreme Court did the
- 5:16Speaker 4: right thing.
- 5:18Speaker 2: It was again again according to ideological lines, which I
- 5:22Speaker 2: don't love to see in the Supreme Court. And it's
- 5:26Speaker 2: funny because it's always the three liberal justices voting together,
- 5:30Speaker 2: and yet it's.
- 5:32Speaker 3: The Conservatives will get back and forth occasionally Kagan, Occasionally
- 5:36Speaker 3: Kagan will end up on the other.
- 5:38Speaker 1: Side, right.
- 5:38Speaker 2: But it's interesting that that's the way it goes down
- 5:42Speaker 2: all the time, and yet it's seen as all the
- 5:45Speaker 2: conservatives are in lockstep, not at all. So it's unfortunate
- 5:51Speaker 2: that it came down to a six' to three, vote
- 5:53Speaker 2: but it's the right, MOVE i, think, WELL.
- 5:57Speaker 3: I think this is what's frustrating about courts and to some,
- 6:02Speaker 3: extent law fair from the left during A trump administration is,
- 6:05Speaker 3: like he Shouldn't he shouldn't have to ask Permissions act
- 6:08Speaker 3: standards for the military, entrance and no other president would have,
- 6:13Speaker 3: to particularly democratic, presidents would not have to absolutely ask
- 6:16Speaker 3: permission of the highest court in the land to do this.
- 6:19Speaker 1: Thing that's part of their.
- 6:19Speaker 2: Job, right it's right there in his title as commander in.
- 6:23Speaker 2: Chief he could do pretty much anything with the. Military
- 6:28Speaker 2: and the hysteria around this is just it's something that
- 6:31Speaker 2: would absolutely never happen with a democratic, president and it
- 6:35Speaker 2: also shows very few lessons have been. LEARNED i think
- 6:38Speaker 2: that the trans thing had gotten pushed so far That.
- 6:42Speaker 4: Americans really drew a.
- 6:44Speaker 2: Line AND i think that this military ban is very
- 6:47Speaker 2: similar to.
- 6:48Speaker 1: That we the.
- 6:49Speaker 4: Military has a.
- 6:50Speaker 2: Role it's not about people's feelings to be the best worst.
- 6:55Speaker 1: Possible and a lot of normies think that.
- 6:57Speaker 2: Way, yes, exactly we are hopefully speaking to the normies.
- 7:01Speaker 1: Here we'll be right back on.
- 7:03Speaker 3: Normally up, next we have maybe a preview of the
- 7:10Speaker 3: summer In washington at The university Of, washington about thirty
- 7:15Speaker 3: Pro palestinian students who are Arrested monday night after they
- 7:18Speaker 3: occupied a building at The university Of washington In, seattle
- 7:21Speaker 3: setting dumpsters on fire and creating a dangerous, environment university officials.
- 7:25Speaker 1: Said the group called SUPER uw.
- 7:27Speaker 3: Said on Its facebook page that it launched an occupation
- 7:30Speaker 3: of the New boeing funded engineering building was staging a
- 7:33Speaker 3: protest over the aviation, companies defense contracts and arms Sales.
- 7:37Speaker 3: Israel so of, course you know it makes sense to
- 7:39Speaker 3: protest protest government contracting by lighting dumpsters on. Fire, obviously
- 7:44Speaker 3: some reports suggest there was a million dollars of damage
- 7:47Speaker 3: on the campus due to the due to these, protests
- 7:51Speaker 3: which then is not, speech, guys and this is the
- 7:55Speaker 3: thing that the universities have been missing. Throughout once you
- 7:59Speaker 3: are doing, this occupying, buildings setting things on, fire and
- 8:02Speaker 3: doing a lot of, vandalism threatening, people hurting, people, yeah
- 8:06Speaker 3: you have crossed over into, crimes, right and in this,
- 8:09Speaker 3: case these people should be, arrested, prosecuted expelled first because
- 8:14Speaker 3: you've done the crimes on the, campus you've broken the.
- 8:17Speaker 3: Rules then all those other, things and if you have
- 8:20Speaker 3: a visa or you're a foreign, student you should be.
- 8:22Speaker 1: Deported, absolutely this can't go.
- 8:26Speaker 2: On it's JUST i can't believe that we even need
- 8:29Speaker 2: to say. This but the fact is that this is taking.
- 8:34Speaker 4: Such a step over the. LINE i try to imagine.
- 8:38Speaker 2: WHAT i would think if they weren't setting buildings on
- 8:41Speaker 2: fire or Stopping jewish kids from going to, classes or
- 8:44Speaker 2: if they were just. Protesting And i'm saying nat saying, that, yeah,
- 8:50Speaker 2: yeah but no, encampments because that's also overstepping the. Rules
- 8:54Speaker 2: but if they were protesting according to what we imagine protesting.
- 8:59Speaker 4: To, be which is speak, RIGHT i would be sticking
- 9:02Speaker 4: up for.
- 9:02Speaker 2: Them and it is the fact that they keep crossing
- 9:06Speaker 2: this line that makes me say we need a really serious.
- 9:10Speaker 4: Crackdown this can't.
- 9:12Speaker 2: Continue we can't continue to have these kinds of riots
- 9:15Speaker 2: go on on our college. CAMPUSES i have a fifteen
- 9:17Speaker 2: year Old i'm thinking about the. FUTURE i don't know
- 9:20Speaker 2: what School i'm going to feel comfortable sending her to
- 9:23Speaker 2: in a few, years because so many schools have failed
- 9:27Speaker 2: completely failed to meet this moment.
- 9:30Speaker 3: Well and the problem is that if these students are
- 9:32Speaker 3: not properly disciplined and up to, expulsion expulsion and actual
- 9:38Speaker 3: prosecution of their, crimes because what happens is they get picked,
- 9:41Speaker 3: up they get, arrested they get let, go and then
- 9:44Speaker 3: the local prosecutor, decides, oh not those sweet innocent, children,
- 9:49Speaker 3: RIGHT i won't be prosecuting. THEM i don't care if
- 9:52Speaker 3: on The columbia campus they held a bunch Of African
- 9:55Speaker 3: american janitors as staff, hostage we won't be going after.
- 9:59Speaker 3: That then that sends the signal that anyone who is
- 10:02Speaker 3: an ideological traveler with the left will be able to
- 10:07Speaker 3: do whatever they want to, do to protest whatever they
- 10:09Speaker 3: want to protest without. Consequence and this has happened several times.
- 10:13Speaker 3: Recently just to do a little collection of, them a
- 10:18Speaker 3: college student accused of firebombing A tesla dealership has been
- 10:21Speaker 3: released from federal custody to continue gender affirming medical. Care
- 10:26Speaker 3: according to, report this Is owen, McIntyre, nineteen facing federal
- 10:30Speaker 3: charges for allegedly tossing two molotov cocktails into A Missouri
- 10:33Speaker 3: tesla dealership last, month causing hundreds of thousands of dollars in.
- 10:37Speaker 1: Damage to two cyber trucks and two charging.
- 10:39Speaker 3: Stations according to THE, feds Is university Of massachusetts physics
- 10:43Speaker 3: student and apparently in court, ALSO i think blamed some
- 10:48Speaker 3: NEURODIVERSITY adhd and.
- 10:50Speaker 1: Depression for these.
- 10:52Speaker 3: Issues for the, acts the illegal acts and requires medication and,
- 10:57Speaker 3: treatments so you, know special treatment much like they want
- 11:00Speaker 3: for the, military special treatment and release from custody for
- 11:05Speaker 3: these conditions for this. Person and if you send that,
- 11:09Speaker 3: signal every single person who fire bombs A tesla the
- 11:12Speaker 3: dealership will be, like But i'm one of the, goodies. Right,
- 11:15Speaker 3: ALSO i HAVE, Adhd like don't we all.
- 11:17Speaker 2: Kid don't exactly what we allow we will get more
- 11:22Speaker 2: Of and when we're allowing these crimes to go, unprosecuted
- 11:27Speaker 2: it also just creates, chaos like do they really not
- 11:31Speaker 2: think that the right will end up doing the same
- 11:33Speaker 2: thing with?
- 11:34Speaker 4: People it's the most obvious pendulum.
- 11:36Speaker 2: Swing, obviously right leaning prosecutors won't prosecute right leading.
- 11:42Speaker 3: Criminals but what they always say is, like watch, out
- 11:45Speaker 3: this will set a, precedent and they ignore that this
- 11:48Speaker 3: has already been.
- 11:49Speaker 1: Happening Right they're, like how.
- 11:52Speaker 3: Would you, feel and it's, like, WELL i already feel
- 11:54Speaker 3: it because it's currently currently. Happening there's a there's a
- 11:59Speaker 3: woman THE da For Hennepin county In minnesota who's another
- 12:04Speaker 3: like very liberal, Prosecutor Mary, moriarty and she dropped charges
- 12:10Speaker 3: for A minnesota. Man he'll be no longer criminally charged
- 12:14Speaker 3: for allegedly vandalizing six. Teslas he, was of, course the
- 12:17Speaker 3: thirty three year old state employee caught on camera by
- 12:20Speaker 3: the tesla's doing twenty thousand dollars in damage to the.
- 12:23Speaker 3: Vehicles you, KNOW i just have a feeling that IF
- 12:26Speaker 3: i were caught doing twenty thousand dollars of damage to,
- 12:29Speaker 3: ANYTHING i would get in.
- 12:32Speaker 1: Trouble, nonetheless she lets this guy.
- 12:34Speaker 3: Go there are reports that a similar crime by someone
- 12:39Speaker 3: who was not a left of center. Protester, mysteriously that
- 12:43Speaker 3: one was. Prosecuted so, Strange so. Strange this same, woman
- 12:47Speaker 3: by the, way THE doj is currently going after because
- 12:52Speaker 3: she openly copped to the fact that she's using race
- 12:58Speaker 3: as part of the decision making PROCESS us for plea.
- 13:01Speaker 1: Bargains.
- 13:02Speaker 4: Yeah, Oops, yeah you can't do, That.
- 13:05Speaker 3: So she might she might not be being a prosecutor
- 13:08Speaker 3: for much. Longer the left really should look up the
- 13:11Speaker 3: things that are actually against the law, right not only for,
- 13:14Speaker 3: prosecuting but also for the things they are, doing because
- 13:17Speaker 3: it turns out racial discrimination for plea bargains it's not.
- 13:20Speaker 2: Allowed, yeah and this is like you could see the
- 13:23Speaker 2: direct line To Donald trump from. This you could see
- 13:26Speaker 2: how people will hear this story and be, Like President,
- 13:29Speaker 2: trump squash these.
- 13:30Speaker 4: People, like make them.
- 13:32Speaker 2: Pay and when he, does when he likely, will there's
- 13:38Speaker 2: going to be an outcry about how he's you, know
- 13:41Speaker 2: involving himself in the judicial process or.
- 13:44Speaker 4: Whatever but it's patently.
- 13:47Speaker 2: Unfair it is, strong and it leads to distrust in our.
- 13:52Speaker 2: System it leads to destruction of our. System this can't
- 13:55Speaker 2: be allowed to go.
- 13:55Speaker 3: On, yeah and if you broke the, laws as they're
- 13:59Speaker 3: fond of, saying no one's above the.
- 14:01Speaker 1: Law and it does seem Like moriarty has been. Hesitated
- 14:05Speaker 1: one or.
- 14:05Speaker 4: Two people above the.
- 14:06Speaker 1: Law, yeah well including.
- 14:08Speaker 3: Herself it was, Like i'm going to racially discriminate in
- 14:11Speaker 3: my capacity as a. Prosecutor so, anyway you, know there
- 14:15Speaker 3: will be more stories to come of people being let,
- 14:17Speaker 3: go and until they are prosecuted properly and, punished we
- 14:21Speaker 3: will continue to see this kind of chaos on.
- 14:23Speaker 1: Campuses SO i hope campuses get.
- 14:24Speaker 3: WISE i just saw recently The university Of michigan ended
- 14:28Speaker 3: up not punishing a bunch of the students who they.
- 14:31Speaker 1: Were they were one of the better schools.
- 14:32Speaker 3: Because they actually did admit that these people were involved
- 14:35Speaker 3: in bad stuff and they didn't up end up expelling.
- 14:38Speaker 1: Them they're actually going to go forth and.
- 14:40Speaker 4: Graduate so it really emboldens these.
- 14:43Speaker 2: People and you, know we talked about this story on
- 14:46Speaker 2: the last, show But Mohammed, khan who is involved in
- 14:50Speaker 2: the barstool bar In philly where they ordered a f
- 14:55Speaker 2: The jews, sign is now going on like white nationalists
- 14:59Speaker 2: podcas casts and saying you, know, basically The jews deserve,
- 15:04Speaker 2: this or The jews The jews caused. This Temple university
- 15:09Speaker 2: has suspended him in their pending review and Whatever i'm
- 15:13Speaker 2: not saying kick people out of school but there have
- 15:17Speaker 2: to be rules that apply to. Everyone but you said
- 15:21Speaker 2: this about any other, group and you'd get kicked out of.
- 15:24Speaker 4: SCHOOL i don't.
- 15:25Speaker 2: KNOW i kind of think The jews should be included in.
- 15:27Speaker 1: That, yeah just equal protection of the. School, yeah that's
- 15:34Speaker 1: where we.
- 15:34Speaker 2: Are, yeah we're going to take a short break and
- 15:37Speaker 2: come right back.
- 15:38Speaker 4: With NORMALLY.
- 15:42Speaker 2: Vena prosad has become the director of the FDA's center
- 15:47Speaker 2: For Biologics evaluation And. RESEARCH i think he's a great.
- 15:51Speaker 2: PICK i he's one of the people that was right ON,
- 15:54Speaker 2: Covid and you, know we do enjoy the right ON
- 15:57Speaker 2: covid people on this.
- 15:59Speaker 1: Show here we get more of what we reward right,
- 16:04Speaker 1: exactly so critical thinking for the. Win that's.
- 16:06Speaker 2: Right he'll be working WITH Fda Commissioner marty, McCarey who
- 16:10Speaker 2: we've talked about on here.
- 16:11Speaker 4: Before AND, i you, KNOW i really like.
- 16:15Speaker 2: THIS i like that the sayin and the good are
- 16:19Speaker 2: being rewarded.
- 16:21Speaker 4: With positions in the.
- 16:22Speaker 1: Administration. YEAH i also enjoy the press coverage of.
- 16:26Speaker 3: This is Like trump announces that agency critic will go to.
- 16:32Speaker 3: Agency i'm, like, yeah that's how it's gonna. Work you
- 16:36Speaker 3: you guys should actually like that because what an agency
- 16:40Speaker 3: critic does is what the press should do it never,
- 16:45Speaker 3: does which is look critically at the actions of an,
- 16:50Speaker 3: agency and So perisad will go there and look critically
- 16:54Speaker 3: at the actions of said, agency as he has been
- 16:57Speaker 3: doing for quite some. Time he is a voice THAT
- 16:59Speaker 3: i trust on sort of nuanced vaccine policy and, education
- 17:05Speaker 3: where he, Says, okay here's the ways that we can
- 17:07Speaker 3: improve the way that people feel about this. Process here
- 17:11Speaker 3: are some questions we can ask. About why Is europe
- 17:14Speaker 3: different than.
- 17:14Speaker 1: Us that's a good.
- 17:16Speaker 3: One we should ELIMINATE covid vaccine from the childhood schedule
- 17:21Speaker 3: because it's making people hesitant about other vaccines because the
- 17:25Speaker 3: data is just obviously not there and never. Was so
- 17:29Speaker 3: he's a person who takes a, smart nuanced tech on this,
- 17:34Speaker 3: stuff is good at talking about. It he's got a
- 17:37Speaker 3: great podcast himself and is a smart guy to listening
- 17:41Speaker 3: for listening.
- 17:41Speaker 1: To he's also an.
- 17:42Speaker 3: Oncologist he's very big on evidence. Based he's very big
- 17:44Speaker 3: on going through studies and demanding they be, replicable which
- 17:49Speaker 3: is a thing that the scientific community has, real real sloppy.
- 17:52Speaker 3: About SO i enjoy this very, much AND i will
- 17:57Speaker 3: enjoy listening to him.
- 17:58Speaker 2: Same you, know we talk ABOUT covid a lot on the,
- 18:01Speaker 2: show and we always, wonder are we just in our
- 18:04Speaker 2: own little bubble here caring about something five years later
- 18:07Speaker 2: that a lot of people don't care. About BUT i
- 18:10Speaker 2: have to, say we hear from listeners all the time
- 18:13Speaker 2: that they want us to keep pushing on, this that
- 18:16Speaker 2: they do still care about what went wrong and what
- 18:18Speaker 2: never got corrected and how nobody took any, responsibility and
- 18:25Speaker 2: picks like this do go a little bit towards fixing
- 18:29Speaker 2: what went.
- 18:30Speaker 4: Wrong and we hear.
- 18:32Speaker 2: You, guys we're going to keep talking about.
- 18:34Speaker 4: It we get that it's.
- 18:35Speaker 2: Not super current or super popular to keep mentioning something
- 18:39Speaker 2: that happened five years, ago but it's important that we
- 18:44Speaker 2: don't forget what they did and that it's corrected at
- 18:48Speaker 2: least in the, record if not in the.
- 18:50Speaker 3: Moment well, again and we're just taking a page from
- 18:52Speaker 3: our friends in the mainstream, media who just they decide
- 18:56Speaker 3: that they care about something and it doesn't matter to
- 18:59Speaker 3: them if it's current or a big deal to like, anyone.
