- 0:00Dot com. Welcome to the Daily Quote, the
- 0:05podcast designed to kick start your day in a positive way.
- 0:10I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, and let's dive into today's
- 0:12quote from Princess Diana, who was known worldwide for her
- 0:18compassion and humanitarian work.
- 0:20She once said carry out a random act of kindness with no
- 0:26expectation of reward, safe in the knowledge that one day
- 0:31someone might do the same for you.
- 0:36Random expectation and might. 3 words that describe how this
- 0:42works. Random means it's not
- 0:46calculated, not strategic, not because someone deserves it or
- 0:51earned it, just because you can. Expectation, or rather no
- 0:59expectation, means you don't do it for thanks, for recognition,
- 1:04for payback. You do it and walk away.
- 1:09And might means there is no guarantee someone might help you
- 1:14one day. Or they might not.
- 1:17And that's not the point. Diana lived this.
- 1:21She held hands with AIDS patients when people were
- 1:24terrified to touch them. She walked through minefields to
- 1:28draw attention to their danger. She comforted the dying and the
- 1:33forgotten. Not for reward, not for
- 1:36recognition, though she got it anyways because she believed in
- 1:41creating a chain of kindness that ripples outward.
- 1:46Here's the beautiful thing about random acts of kindness.
- 1:49They're contagious. When someone experiences
- 1:53unexpected kindness, they're more likely to pass it on.
- 1:57Not to you, necessarily. To someone else who passes it to
- 2:04someone else who passes it to someone else, and so on and so
- 2:11on and so on. You start a chain reaction.
- 2:16You'll never see most of it. You'll never know how far it
- 2:20goes. But it goes, and here's Diana's
- 2:25faith. If enough people do this, if
- 2:28enough chains of kindness are moved through the world,
- 2:33eventually one will reach you when you need it.
- 2:36Not because you earned it, not because someone owes you, but
- 2:41because someone, somewhere continue to chain that you might
- 2:44have started years ago without knowing.
- 2:48So here's the question, what random act of kindness could you
- 2:52do today? Not for reward, not for
- 2:57recognition, just to start a chain because one day someone
- 3:03might do the same for you, or they might not, but the chain
- 3:08keeps moving. Either way, start 1 today.
- 3:12That's going to do it for today. I'm Andrew McGivern, signing off
- 3:15for now, but I'll be back tomorrow.
- 3:19Same pod time, same pod station with another daily quote.
