- 0:05Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the right time. A wave original.
- 0:10Speaker 1: My name is Beaumont Jones. Thanks for listening wherever you
- 0:12Speaker 1: get your podcast. Thanks for watching us on YouTube. Subscribe, like,
- 0:16Speaker 1: rate us, review us, give us five stars. You only
- 0:19Speaker 1: give us four stars. I'm inclined to believe you are
- 0:22Speaker 1: a hater. We got some college football talk coming up
- 0:24Speaker 1: a little bit later. But first, we got to talk
- 0:27Speaker 1: about how. I want to say that we appear to
- 0:31Speaker 1: be in our Godzilla era of sports, but you're going
- 0:34Speaker 1: to think I meant something that I didn't mean, and
- 0:36Speaker 1: it's just.
- 0:36Speaker 2: A little bit too on the money. But we are
- 0:40Speaker 2: definitely in.
- 0:41Speaker 1: Our FOH era of sports, which is to say we
- 0:45Speaker 1: have not one, but two people who are currently playing
- 0:48Speaker 1: sports who just drip with fuck out of here. And
- 0:51Speaker 1: what I mean by that is you just look at
- 0:53Speaker 1: them and you're like, this can't be real.
- 0:54Speaker 2: Fuck out of here.
- 0:55Speaker 1: There's no way in the world that this is actually happening. So-
- 1:00Speaker 1: I want to tell you, as I woke up to
- 1:02Speaker 1: record this podcast, I got up. I don't even remember
- 1:06Speaker 1: what time. You know, I get up fairly early. I
- 1:08Speaker 1: like to get in, get a workout. You know what
- 1:10Speaker 1: I'm saying? Talk to Ryan, figure out what we're going
- 1:12Speaker 1: to do. So I get up and I get a text.
- 1:15Speaker 1: And I'm going to be honest with you. Sometimes I'd
- 1:18Speaker 1: be forgetting that the World Series is on, which is
- 1:20Speaker 1: a shame because I enjoy playoff baseball a lot. But,
- 1:23Speaker 1: you know, they took a day off.
- 1:25Speaker 2: I forgot.
- 1:26Speaker 1: But anyway, I wake up to a text saying, from
- 1:29Speaker 1: my good buddy Justin Tinsley, and it says, and I quote,
- 1:33Speaker 1: this motherfucker Otani, SMH.
- 1:36Speaker 2: Now, I need to look and see what time.
- 1:40Speaker 1: This text was sent, because, oh, the text was sent yesterday,
- 1:45Speaker 1: and it was at 11, so the game.
- 1:48Speaker 2: Was probably still in regular innings.
- 1:53Speaker 3: Anyway. Okay.
- 1:55Speaker 1: That's all I know is that this motherfucker has done something.
- 1:57Speaker 1: I don't know what the thing is.
- 1:59Speaker 3: Okay.
- 2:01Speaker 2: So I go to work out and I run the
- 2:03Speaker 2: workout through the television, right?
- 2:05Speaker 1: In the living room because I live in New York. So,
- 2:08Speaker 1: you know, you got to use rooms for multiple purposes.
- 2:11Speaker 1: So anyway, I'm running through the living room TV. I
- 2:14Speaker 1: turn the TV on. I think it was on ESPN
- 2:17Speaker 1: for the night before. And it says something about how
- 2:21Speaker 1: Shohei Ohtani had four extra base hits, and also five
- 2:29Speaker 1: walks in the same game. And I honestly didn't understand
- 2:34Speaker 1: how such a thing was possible. So I then go
- 2:39Speaker 1: and I pull up the app to look at the
- 2:42Speaker 1: box score.
- 2:43Speaker 2: And I see that the game went to 18 innings.
- 2:46Speaker 2: And I'm like, oh, okay. Now I see how it's
- 2:49Speaker 2: plausible such a thing happened.
- 2:51Speaker 1: But then I look for Otani and it says four
- 2:53Speaker 1: for four, but it says one BB based on balls.
- 2:57Speaker 1: And I'm like, where are these other ones? And I
- 2:59Speaker 1: don't understand, like, none of this is making sense to me.
- 3:02Speaker 1: I don't know what's going on. And so I sit
- 3:05Speaker 1: down at this chair and I asked Ryan, like, did
- 3:10Speaker 1: he have five walks in a different game? And Ryan
- 3:13Speaker 1: explains to me, oh, no, no. He had four extra
- 3:18Speaker 1: base hits in this game. He had five walks, and
- 3:22Speaker 1: it said only one in the box score because the
- 3:26Speaker 1: other four were intentional.
- 3:28Speaker 2: And Ryan, I'm going to need you to jump on
- 3:29Speaker 2: to make sure I got this part right.
- 3:32Speaker 1: After the ninth inning, the Blue Jays decided we ain't
- 3:36Speaker 1: pitching to him no more.
- 3:37Speaker 4: Is that correct? They walked him intentionally in the ninth
- 3:40Speaker 4: when the game was tied, and they kept walking him.
- 3:44Speaker 4: So it was five walks, four of them were intentional,
- 3:47Speaker 4: and the fifth one was intentional. you know, on four pitches.
- 3:49Speaker 4: So it might as well have been.
- 3:54Speaker 2: I'm not losing. Here's what, here's what's not about to happen.
- 3:57Speaker 1: The most foreseeable outcome is not going to be the
- 4:00Speaker 1: way we lose. Yeah.
- 4:01Speaker 4: I mean, that's the baseball version of putting two guys
- 4:04Speaker 4: on Megatron at the goal line. Like, I don't know
- 4:07Speaker 4: how we're losing, but we're not losing this way.
- 4:09Speaker 1: You remember when Kawhi Leonard was absolutely, like, just the
- 4:12Speaker 1: most unstoppable force on offense and teams were running their
- 4:16Speaker 1: offense with four people?
- 4:17Speaker 4: Yes.
- 4:18Speaker 2: Because they weren't allowing this.
- 4:19Speaker 1: When Orlando Pace was in college and they wouldn't even
- 4:22Speaker 1: line anybody up over him.
- 4:24Speaker 2: Right.
- 4:25Speaker 1: Jadavion Cloudy, you just run it the other way. But, like,
- 4:28Speaker 1: by and large, these examples are college. This is the
- 4:32Speaker 1: boxing one. Right.
- 4:34Speaker 2: To a whole, whole, whole, whole, whole nother level.
- 4:37Speaker 1: Like even like Barry Bonds, who we have seen be
- 4:40Speaker 1: intentionally walked with the bases loaded before, which quite honestly
- 4:44Speaker 1: is the most disrespectful thing you can do to whoever
- 4:47Speaker 1: the person is that's batting after him. Like I remember
- 4:49Speaker 1: when Showalter did that with Bonds and the dude who
- 4:52Speaker 1: was hitting after Bonds who probably hated Barry Bonds guts
- 4:55Speaker 1: because everybody else did.
- 4:56Speaker 2: He no comment after the game.
- 4:58Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 4:59Speaker 2: What are they what are they saying to you? You
- 5:01Speaker 2: open for a reason.
- 5:03Speaker 3: Right?
- 5:04Speaker 2: That's what they're saying to you. Hey, man. Okay.
- 5:10Speaker 1: The thing about Otani is greatest baseball player of all time, which,
- 5:14Speaker 1: I mean, we have a very, very significant argument for this.
- 5:18Speaker 2: The holdup is, at least for me, and I'm 42. Wow.
- 5:24Speaker 2: I'm so old. I forgot how old I was.
- 5:27Speaker 1: I'm 45 years old, which I understand to a lot
- 5:30Speaker 1: of you youngsters seems.
- 5:32Speaker 2: Like Really old.
- 5:36Speaker 1: So old I couldn't even think of a proper word.
- 5:38Speaker 1: But anyway, I'm 45 years old. But in some ways,
- 5:42Speaker 1: I am older than that. And I realized that when
- 5:46Speaker 1: I used to do Around the Horns and it was
- 5:49Speaker 1: the kind of things that me and Bob Ryan would
- 5:52Speaker 1: agree on.
- 5:53Speaker 2: Now, please understand, that's my guy. I'm a big Bob
- 5:56Speaker 2: Ryan fan.
- 5:57Speaker 1: I always feel like me and Bob are on the
- 5:59Speaker 1: same side with a couple of exceptions. But if we're
- 6:02Speaker 1: on the same side, I'm doing this right. And two
- 6:05Speaker 1: things that we are both on the same side of,
- 6:07Speaker 1: that I believe is the right side, is A, a
- 6:10Speaker 1: fundamental distaste for the three-pointer in basketball, though I have
- 6:13Speaker 1: a bit of an understanding for why it must exist anyway.
- 6:18Speaker 1: And two, the designated hitter is some rock and jock bullshit.
- 6:28Speaker 2: I hate it. I can't stand it.
- 6:31Speaker 3: It's not.
- 6:31Speaker 2: It.
- 6:34Speaker 1: It was bad enough when it was one league that
- 6:36Speaker 1: had it. Now everybody has it. No, it defies the
- 6:40Speaker 1: logic of the game. Either you get on the field
- 6:43Speaker 1: and do everything.
- 6:45Speaker 2: Or you don't.
- 6:45Speaker 1: Like, this is how it works. This is how baseball
- 6:49Speaker 1: is supposed to go.
- 6:51Speaker 2: I hate it.
- 6:52Speaker 1: And so my issue with Otani is he doesn't actually
- 6:55Speaker 1: play the field.
- 6:56Speaker 4: So.
- 6:57Speaker 1: You know, he's just limited to being a dude who
- 7:00Speaker 1: does 50-50 and pitches really well.
- 7:04Speaker 2: But I ain't never seen him run around in right field.
- 7:07Speaker 1: I understand why that may seem silly to you.
- 7:09Speaker 2: But that's, I think it's a fair hold up. You
- 7:11Speaker 2: know what I'm saying?
- 7:12Speaker 1: But it's becoming the only hold up. Again, Barry Bonds
- 7:19Speaker 1: is the comp. And the thing with Bonds, to be fair,
- 7:21Speaker 1: and this is why I bring this up, is that
- 7:24Speaker 1: There's a statistical argument, if nothing else, that Barry Bonds
- 7:27Speaker 1: is the greatest defensive left fielder that ever exists. Bonds
- 7:30Speaker 1: is also in that weird space where he's quite possibly
- 7:32Speaker 1: the best baseball player of all time, but also not
- 7:35Speaker 1: a five tool player, which I guess in large part
- 7:38Speaker 1: is something we can also say about Otani. But the
- 7:40Speaker 1: problem with Bonds as the five tool, of course, is
- 7:43Speaker 1: as Sid Bream and we Atlanta Braves fans could tell you,
- 7:46Speaker 1: Bonds don't throw the ball that hard. That's the tool
- 7:51Speaker 1: he didn't really have. But This is so wild because
- 8:00Speaker 1: it's crazy this deep into the 21st century to see
- 8:03Speaker 1: something and still feel fairly confident that you're never going
- 8:06Speaker 1: to see it again.
- 8:07Speaker 2: You know what I mean?
- 8:10Speaker 1: The idea that you're never going to see something again
- 8:13Speaker 1: after a lifetime of having your expectations defied.
- 8:18Speaker 2: And still being able to look at something and be like, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah.
- 8:22Speaker 1: This, this, this, this, this one in a million chance
- 8:26Speaker 1: of a lifetime. This is the only time we're going
- 8:29Speaker 1: to see this right here. And honestly, it's that 50-50 thing.
- 8:34Speaker 1: I really, like, Ryan, I don't know how we don't
- 8:36Speaker 1: talk about this all the time. Like, I think we
- 8:38Speaker 1: talked about it when Otani had the crazy game, Friday
- 8:42Speaker 1: night game, where he had the homers and the strikeouts
- 8:46Speaker 1: and everything else.
- 8:46Speaker 4: And we talked about it a little bit this summer when,
- 8:48Speaker 4: you know, he was on our North American top 25 list.
- 8:51Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, but I told you about a guy that
- 8:52Speaker 1: he shouldn't have been on, yes.
- 8:54Speaker 2: But that's how cold he is.
- 8:56Speaker 3: Whoops.
- 8:57Speaker 2: Yep, it happens.
- 8:58Speaker 1: But our guy Mike Sielski was talking about, there was
- 9:00Speaker 1: a guy that pitched for the Phillies who in one
- 9:04Speaker 1: game against the Big Red Machine, a team that had
- 9:07Speaker 1: four Hall of Famers, all within the run of when
- 9:09Speaker 1: they would have won, I mean not Hall of Famers,
- 9:11Speaker 1: four MVPs, in the run of which they would have won.
- 9:13Speaker 2: MVPs, by the way.
- 9:14Speaker 1: But he said the dude had two home runs in
- 9:17Speaker 1: the game and a no hitter. And I'm telling you,
- 9:20Speaker 1: you'd have heard about that all the time if you
- 9:23Speaker 1: knew anything about me.
- 9:24Speaker 2: That's my four touchdowns in one game. You better be ready.
- 9:28Speaker 1: I don't know how we don't talk all the time
- 9:30Speaker 1: about how this man rang up a 50-50. Like, I
- 9:34Speaker 1: remember the first 40-40 and how crazy it was, right?
- 9:37Speaker 1: And most of the 40-40s were a bit contrived because
- 9:40Speaker 1: at some point the stats were being chased, right? To
- 9:42Speaker 1: get to one of the 40s, there was a, it's
- 9:45Speaker 1: kind of like those Russell Westbrook triple doubles at the.
- 9:48Speaker 3: End, right?
- 9:49Speaker 4: I mean, it's not the full, like, Stockton assist record. Yes.
- 9:53Speaker 4: Where it's, like, doctored, but it's, like, very clear. It's, like, not, well,
- 9:57Speaker 4: their stats are doctored, but it's very clearly, like, you're
- 9:59Speaker 4: chasing this goal.
- 10:00Speaker 2: Yeah, they're being padded. Like that is what stat padding is,
- 10:04Speaker 2: exactly it.
- 10:05Speaker 1: But 50-50, even if you're padding, you're only padding after
- 10:09Speaker 1: you've gotten past the 40-40.
- 10:12Speaker 2: This is it. I can't, I, I, how does he
- 10:16Speaker 2: have the nerve to be fast?
- 10:19Speaker 4: I mean, the game, one of the reasons it went
- 10:21Speaker 4: to so many innings is in the ninth, he tried
- 10:23Speaker 4: to steal a base.
- 10:24Speaker 6: Yes.
- 10:25Speaker 4: Tried to steal a base, and he stole it, but
- 10:27Speaker 4: he fell off. He got off the bag.
- 10:29Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 10:30Speaker 1: I would also make this note, though, that since you
- 10:32Speaker 1: can't run fast, have you thought about playing a little
- 10:35Speaker 1: center field?
- 10:36Speaker 4: I mean, that's the thing with the Dodgers is.
- 10:38Speaker 2: I guess they got a zillion players.
- 10:40Speaker 4: They got a zillion players. Like, they're walking. Here's the
- 10:43Speaker 4: thing about the walks. is they're walking Otani to get
- 10:47Speaker 4: to Freddie Freeman and Mookie Betts.
- 10:48Speaker 2: That's what I was about to say.
- 10:49Speaker 1: Mookie Betts has got to be lurking there somewhere. Yeah.
- 10:52Speaker 2: And I see that Freddie hit the home run to
- 10:55Speaker 2: shut it down.
- 10:55Speaker 1: I can't imagine how bad anybody, everybody involved wants to
- 10:59Speaker 1: be home by the 18th inning.
- 11:01Speaker 2: You know, my hot take on sports is that.
- 11:04Speaker 4: No overtimes?
- 11:05Speaker 2: No overtimes, man. Wildly overrated. Call it a tie. We'll
- 11:08Speaker 2: come back later. I don't feel like doing this anymore.
- 11:11Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, it's like, as such, if they're not, like,
- 11:15Speaker 4: It's the idea of playing baseball, you know, where the
- 11:18Speaker 4: game doesn't end. They play two whole games.
- 11:21Speaker 2: Yes.
- 11:21Speaker 4: Like, the idea of playing your eighth quarter in football
- 11:24Speaker 4: is just, like, so preposterous. But it's something we accept
- 11:26Speaker 4: with baseball.
- 11:27Speaker 1: Man, at some point, I'm the manager. I'm getting myself
- 11:31Speaker 1: kicked out. I'm coming out there for no reason.
- 11:35Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 11:36Speaker 2: Like, dude, we called it a strike. We called it
- 11:38Speaker 2: for you. Just throw me out of the goddamn game!
- 11:41Speaker 4: I mean, the game went on so long, Kershaw pitched
- 11:43Speaker 4: and gotten out.
- 11:44Speaker 2: Yeah, I didn't know he was allowed to pitch anymore.
- 11:47Speaker 1: Yeah. I thought the only pitch they were going to
- 11:50Speaker 1: let him throw was going to be the first one.
- 11:52Speaker 2: You know?
- 11:53Speaker 1: Like the one where they catch you don't wear no
- 11:55Speaker 1: mask and everybody claps after you do it. I didn't
- 11:59Speaker 1: think he was allowed to do that at all anymore.
- 12:01Speaker 1: But we bring this up as we have reached this era.
- 12:05Speaker 2: We have not had our chance yet to talk about
- 12:08Speaker 2: Big Vic.
- 12:09Speaker 1: Um.
- 12:12Speaker 1: Victor Wimbayama is like, he's the reason to get the
- 12:15Speaker 1: league pass. If you are into basketball like that, he's
- 12:19Speaker 1: the reason to get the league pass. I can't lie.
- 12:22Speaker 1: So far, all I've seen are short clips off of
- 12:27Speaker 1: the internet. However, I can count and I can read
- 12:31Speaker 1: those statistics and We are never going to see anything
- 12:37Speaker 1: like this again. Like, you know, at some point, I
- 12:40Speaker 1: fully acknowledge and we all do that this is going
- 12:42Speaker 1: to have to, like, turn into something and they're going
- 12:44Speaker 1: to have to do some measure of winning. And I
- 12:46Speaker 1: feel like most of us kind of recognize that this
- 12:49Speaker 1: is the time when this is going to happen. Right now,
- 12:54Speaker 1: this young man in 32 minutes a game is averaging
- 12:58Speaker 1: 31 points a game, 14 rebounds, and.
- 13:04Speaker 1: I say almost 14, let me be clear, almost 14
- 13:07Speaker 1: rebounds and almost five blocks while shooting 60% from the
- 13:13Speaker 1: floor and 36% from three. And those of you who
- 13:21Speaker 1: have not actually seen any of the clips, do you
- 13:27Speaker 1: have children? And when I say, do you have children?
- 13:32Speaker 1: I don't mean, do you have offsprings?
- 13:38Speaker 2: Okay?
- 13:39Speaker 1: And when I say, do you have offsprings? Or I
- 13:45Speaker 1: don't mean, do you have offsprings? I don't mean, do
- 13:48Speaker 1: you have small children?
- 13:51Speaker 2: Okay? I don't mean, like, do you have 10-year-olds? Something
- 13:55Speaker 2: like that.
- 13:56Speaker 1: I don't mean, do you have a 5-year-old? I mean,
- 14:02Speaker 1: Do you have a child between 18 and 24 months? Okay.
- 14:09Speaker 1: If you do have a child between 18 and 24 months,
- 14:14Speaker 1: I want you to give that child a ball and
- 14:19Speaker 1: ask that child to throw the ball toward one of
- 14:22Speaker 1: them little fun goals, you know, little goals for the kids.
- 14:27Speaker 1: And when that kid puts that shot up, I want
- 14:31Speaker 1: you to spike that like you trying to throw it
- 14:34Speaker 1: through the ground, like you trying to make a crater
- 14:37Speaker 1: in the ground. And then when you get it, I
- 14:40Speaker 1: want you to take the ball and I want you
- 14:42Speaker 1: to go all the way to the other side of
- 14:44Speaker 1: the room. And then I want you to take a
- 14:47Speaker 1: shot from 30 feet and I want you to make
- 14:50Speaker 1: it go all nothing but net in.
- 14:54Speaker 2: That's what this dude is doing.
- 14:57Speaker 1: It looks like he's playing against, like before it looked
- 15:01Speaker 1: like he was playing against children just because of.
- 15:04Speaker 2: The size thing.
- 15:05Speaker 1: Now he's treating them like children too. Now look, Anthony
- 15:08Speaker 1: Davis showed up looking a little bit out of shape, right?
- 15:12Speaker 2: In game one.
- 15:13Speaker 1: But Anthony Davis is still a Hall of Fame, top
- 15:17Speaker 1: 75 player and NBA champion and important to note, six
- 15:22Speaker 1: foot 11.
- 15:25Speaker 2: He couldn't do anything. anything with Victor at all. Nothing, nothing.
- 15:32Speaker 1: So this guy is seven foot five and doing these things,
- 15:36Speaker 1: shooting step back threes and hitting people with low crosses.
- 15:41Speaker 1: Like it's one thing that you got to figure out
- 15:44Speaker 1: how to guard somebody that tall. It's another thing when
- 15:48Speaker 1: there's a legitimate question as to whether or not you're
- 15:50Speaker 1: going to be able to keep him in front of you. Like,
- 15:57Speaker 1: I talked to a guy who has played with him
- 16:00Speaker 1: during the preseason.
- 16:01Speaker 2: Just a text. And the response was four words. He's
- 16:06Speaker 2: the one, bro. Brian, you're a little younger than me.
- 16:11Speaker 1: So, I have the, you know, I got a little
- 16:13Speaker 1: more historical perspective here.
- 16:15Speaker 2: But I don't even think that matters.
- 16:17Speaker 3: No.
- 16:18Speaker 1: Like, this is, how is this a thing?
- 16:21Speaker 4: It's just like when you talk about the high gap. Like,
- 16:23Speaker 4: the rumor is he grew to 7'7.
- 16:29Speaker 2: As if those two inches matter, by the way.
- 16:31Speaker 4: But I mean, just think of, think of how tall
- 16:35Speaker 4: a six, seven person is when you see them, like you're,
- 16:38Speaker 4: you know, you're walking around, you see a six, like
- 16:40Speaker 4: that is a objectively tall person to look at now
- 16:43Speaker 4: at a foot.
- 16:45Speaker 3: Yes.
- 16:46Speaker 1: Yeah. Like Anthony Davis standing next to Victor. It's kind
- 16:51Speaker 1: of like, you've seen this me standing next to mellow.
- 16:57Speaker 5: Correct.
- 16:57Speaker 4: Right.
- 16:58Speaker 2: Or like Rudy Gay.
- 17:00Speaker 1: Rudy Gay pulled up at that event that we did
- 17:02Speaker 1: in Las Vegas. And I didn't even recognize him because
- 17:05Speaker 1: I wasn't looking up. Like I was walking through the
- 17:09Speaker 1: door and looking this way. And I didn't see a face.
- 17:12Speaker 4: It's like a human being. It's like a human beings
- 17:14Speaker 4: on a different floor.
- 17:15Speaker 3: Yes.
- 17:16Speaker 4: Yes.
- 17:16Speaker 2: And I'm not. Neither of us are short people.
- 17:19Speaker 3: No.
- 17:19Speaker 2: Like I actually think that me and you are like
- 17:21Speaker 2: the Twin Towers of podcasts.
- 17:22Speaker 4: Right.
- 17:23Speaker 1: You know, like especially non-NBA player podcasting.
- 17:27Speaker 4: Yeah, we're front court players for sure.
- 17:30Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah. We're showing up and we're putting our
- 17:33Speaker 2: backs on people.
- 17:34Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 17:35Speaker 2: And then we call for the ball.
- 17:36Speaker 1: Rudy Gaywald passed and I had to apologize to him
- 17:39Speaker 1: when I saw him later because I didn't want him
- 17:41Speaker 1: to think that I had ignored him.
- 17:43Speaker 2: I just wasn't looking up that high, big dog.
- 17:45Speaker 4: I saw this interaction. It's exactly what happened. It's kind of-
- 17:48Speaker 4: Chips in the night like this.
- 17:50Speaker 1: You know what it's kind of like? And living in
- 17:52Speaker 1: New York, this happens. I don't know if this has
- 17:53Speaker 1: happened to you. How many times I walked past the
- 17:55Speaker 1: Empire State Building and didn't realize that it was the
- 17:58Speaker 1: Empire State Building?
- 17:58Speaker 3: Correct.
- 17:59Speaker 1: Because it doesn't seem like the Empire State Building unless
- 18:02Speaker 1: you're looking up. So you just get off on 34th
- 18:04Speaker 1: Street and you know there's lots of reasons for you
- 18:06Speaker 1: to be on 34th Street.
- 18:08Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 18:08Speaker 1: But when you're walking past the Empire State Building, what
- 18:11Speaker 1: makes it the Empire State Building? You don't see because
- 18:13Speaker 1: you're going this way. That's what it was like with
- 18:16Speaker 1: Rudy Gay. And Rudy Gay is eight inches shorter.
- 18:22Speaker 2: At least than this guy that we're talking about.
- 18:24Speaker 4: Yeah, it might be 10. Yeah, it's ridiculous.
- 18:28Speaker 1: It's on the board. And he's not just like dribbling,
- 18:32Speaker 1: kind of crossing people up. He's kind of sort of
- 18:35Speaker 1: and one crossing people up. And now he's hitting people
- 18:38Speaker 1: in the chest with his shoulders and moving them back.
- 18:43Speaker 2: What are you supposed to do?
- 18:46Speaker 1: And I am certain, and I haven't heard anybody say
- 18:49Speaker 1: it yet, But I am positive.
- 18:53Speaker 2: Okay. Here's what I.
- 18:55Speaker 6: Okay.
- 18:59Speaker 1: My favorite Victor Wimbanyama moment of all time is when
- 19:04Speaker 1: they played like one of them hoop summits.
- 19:07Speaker 2: Right?
- 19:08Speaker 1: They played one of them hoop summits. And this is
- 19:10Speaker 1: when Scoot Henderson was a thing. And I probably talked
- 19:12Speaker 1: about this here, but I'll never get tired of.
- 19:14Speaker 2: Telling the story.
- 19:15Speaker 1: They're playing against Scoot Henderson and they were asking him
- 19:18Speaker 1: about how good Scoot Henderson was. And I think this
- 19:20Speaker 1: was an interview he did in French because he does
- 19:22Speaker 1: the most in French. And he said, yes, Scoot Henderson
- 19:25Speaker 1: is great. He would definitely be the first player drafted
- 19:28Speaker 1: if I had never been born. Also, I believe it
- 19:34Speaker 1: was his rookie year and Rudy Gobert won defensive player
- 19:37Speaker 1: of the year.
- 19:38Speaker 2: And in French, Victor said.
- 19:40Speaker 1: Congratulations to him because it's going to be the last
- 19:43Speaker 1: one that he wins. I say all that to say
- 19:49Speaker 1: that if we're at the point now where he's doing
- 19:52Speaker 1: this to people and he's putting his shoulder in people's chests,
- 19:56Speaker 1: I assure you that he is talking cash money shit
- 20:03Speaker 1: to some of your favorite NBA players. I promise you
- 20:09Speaker 1: that he is. I can only imagine how annoying it
- 20:15Speaker 1: is to have somebody talking shit to you that's that
- 20:20Speaker 1: skinny and speak French.
- 20:24Speaker 2: I just can't.
- 20:25Speaker 4: Can you imagine when he goes to put his shoulder
- 20:28Speaker 4: into what he thinks is your chest and he puts
- 20:30Speaker 4: it in your face?
- 20:31Speaker 2: Yes, I had not thought about that part.
- 20:33Speaker 4: Just think of it like the physical, like he goes
- 20:36Speaker 4: to lower down and you get the uppercut.
- 20:39Speaker 3: Right.
- 20:39Speaker 2: What does it.
- 20:40Speaker 1: The physical wherewithal it takes for him to elbow you
- 20:43Speaker 1: in the chest.
- 20:44Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 20:44Speaker 2: Or any of those things.
- 20:46Speaker 4: He's coming down at an angle.
- 20:48Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 20:48Speaker 4: He's giving people the people's elbow to elbow them.
- 20:52Speaker 2: This is the beginning. And he wouldn't have kicked him
- 20:55Speaker 2: with the bunks.
- 20:59Speaker 1: That, by the way, his decision to go kick him
- 21:00Speaker 1: with the bunks is definitely a litmus test of sorts
- 21:04Speaker 1: of how we feel about things based upon whether.
- 21:07Speaker 2: Or not we like you.
- 21:09Speaker 1: If Aaron Rodgers had gone and taken that trip with
- 21:11Speaker 1: the Bucs two years ago, we'd clown it.
- 21:14Speaker 2: I'll be honest with you.
- 21:15Speaker 1: If Aaron Rodgers went to hang out with the Bucs
- 21:16Speaker 1: this year, we might think it's okay. But Victor went
- 21:19Speaker 1: to go hang out with the Bucs, and I'm like, oh,
- 21:21Speaker 1: y'all going to be in trouble now.
- 21:23Speaker 2: This man is honing in that focus. Focus is a skill.
- 21:27Speaker 2: Focus is a resource.
- 21:29Speaker 1: And he appears to be honing and stocking up at
- 21:32Speaker 1: the same damn time.
- 21:34Speaker 2: So, okay, he is physically unlike anything we have ever seen.
- 21:39Speaker 1: He is out there hanging out with the monks. And
- 21:44Speaker 1: if you saw the way that he reacted when France
- 21:45Speaker 1: lost that silver medal game, his plan is to come
- 21:50Speaker 1: to the United States and take it over in 2028.
- 21:56Speaker 2: I feel like, or at least in my brain.
- 21:58Speaker 1: I have concocted this full-on narrative that that is.
- 22:02Speaker 2: The origin story.
- 22:03Speaker 1: It's going to be they lost that game at the
- 22:05Speaker 1: crib And he can't wait to come to these good
- 22:08Speaker 1: old U.S. of A and put the hurt on us
- 22:12Speaker 1: at our own crib in Las Vegas. And then maybe.
- 22:17Speaker 2: Not Las Vegas, Los Angeles. Oh, my God.
- 22:18Speaker 1: If they had the Olympics in Las Vegas, people would
- 22:20Speaker 1: be missing events. Let's just start talking about something else.
- 22:29Speaker 1: We've been talking a lot about the college football personnel cycle,
- 22:33Speaker 1: coaching cycle. carousel it's kind of moving not fully moving
- 22:36Speaker 1: you know what I mean but that's what we've been
- 22:37Speaker 1: on and we were trying to figure out you know
- 22:40Speaker 1: topics to talk about today Ryan was going back and
- 22:43Speaker 1: forth and you know a general question that is often
- 22:46Speaker 1: fun to ask is what is the best job in
- 22:50Speaker 1: college football and for a while it felt like the
- 22:53Speaker 1: consensus answer was the University of Texas um access to
- 22:58Speaker 1: players huge amounts of money and while the boosters could
- 23:02Speaker 1: be annoying the The pressure level on the job isn't
- 23:05Speaker 1: nearly as high as I think was advertised. Florida was
- 23:10Speaker 1: always up there, again, for somewhat similar reasons, though the
- 23:13Speaker 1: pressure gain was a little bit different. I had always
- 23:17Speaker 1: spoken for a long time about LSU because of the
- 23:20Speaker 1: ceiling at LSU, the pressure not being Alabama-level pressure. You know,
- 23:27Speaker 1: that one was up there. USC is a job that
- 23:30Speaker 1: people have brought up. Ohio State... is definitely one that
- 23:34Speaker 1: comes up in the conversation. You know, Georgia, now that
- 23:38Speaker 1: Atlanta seems to be the football epicenter, right? Like up
- 23:41Speaker 1: there with Miami in terms of what's produced, you know,
- 23:43Speaker 1: the types of players that it produces. You know, a
- 23:45Speaker 1: lot of schools that had long been up for discussion
- 23:48Speaker 1: of what is the best job in college football. And
- 23:51Speaker 1: I think we now have a definitive answer for what
- 23:57Speaker 1: job is the best one in college football.
- 23:59Speaker 2: And that answer is none of them.
- 24:03Speaker 1: They all stink. You can get rich at all of them.
- 24:08Speaker 1: But at this point, every single job stinks. I think
- 24:17Speaker 1: that we are reaching a point now where the career
- 24:23Speaker 1: span of a coach is going to be more like
- 24:29Speaker 1: coaching in the pros category. than coaching in college. Now look,
- 24:34Speaker 1: we've long been in a place where you needed to
- 24:36Speaker 1: start showing some real signs and progress by year three,
- 24:42Speaker 1: or you were going to be out of there, right?
- 24:44Speaker 1: But getting fired at LSU after three seasons where you
- 24:52Speaker 1: won 29 games and then a season with three losses
- 24:55Speaker 1: to teams that are currently in the top.
- 24:58Speaker 2: 10, that's different. That is different.
- 25:05Speaker 1: And I've got to wonder, first of all, let me
- 25:08Speaker 1: explain in part why I believe that we're at this
- 25:10Speaker 1: place now where basically all these jobs are like kind
- 25:13Speaker 1: of sort of the same and like not being good.
- 25:18Speaker 1: You hear a lot of discussion about how NIL has
- 25:24Speaker 1: leveled the playing field.
- 25:27Speaker 2: And I don't fully agree with that.
- 25:31Speaker 1: What I do think that the NIL era has done
- 25:36Speaker 1: is it has raised the ceiling on what is possible
- 25:41Speaker 1: at certain schools. So, for example, the ceiling has changed
- 25:48Speaker 1: at Texas Tech because it's more likely that they can
- 25:52Speaker 1: get an amazing player or two And then put that
- 25:57Speaker 1: together with some magic and, you know, a little scheming.
- 26:01Speaker 1: And now this is a team that for whatever reason
- 26:04Speaker 1: can be in the top 10 in.
- 26:06Speaker 2: Ways that it had done before, but not, you know,
- 26:08Speaker 2: come on, not really. I think that is what it
- 26:12Speaker 2: has done.
- 26:13Speaker 1: Now, the one thing I don't know, and Ryan, maybe
- 26:15Speaker 1: you've read something about this, but Indiana is our great
- 26:19Speaker 1: success case right now, but that does not feel like
- 26:22Speaker 1: it is the result of NIL greatness. Like, maybe that's
- 26:26Speaker 1: part of it, but it's still kind of Cignetti and
- 26:28Speaker 1: all these guys that he brought with him from James Madison.
- 26:31Speaker 4: Yeah, that's transfer portal greatness.
- 26:33Speaker 2: Yes.
- 26:34Speaker 4: NIL, I wouldn't say greatness, would probably be something like
- 26:40Speaker 4: Texas Tech is a good example of it. That billionaire
- 26:43Speaker 4: is clearly just great. putting infinite numbers into the roster.
- 26:47Speaker 4: I mean, Ohio State had the big roster figure when
- 26:50Speaker 4: they won the national championship last year. But like the success,
- 26:55Speaker 4: it used to be like year four was the expectation.
- 26:58Speaker 4: Now it's going to be year two, year three because
- 27:00Speaker 4: of the NIL.
- 27:01Speaker 1: And you could turn the roster over so much faster.
- 27:04Speaker 1: But my thing is this, and I'm curious what you
- 27:06Speaker 1: think about this. I still think the jobs at which
- 27:10Speaker 1: you could do the most winning, are still going to
- 27:13Speaker 1: be the jobs that were always the ones.
- 27:15Speaker 3: Correct.
- 27:15Speaker 4: The most consistent winning, I would agree.
- 27:16Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 27:17Speaker 1: So like I've seen the argument that the difference between
- 27:19Speaker 1: Florida and Ole Miss as a job is not that great.
- 27:22Speaker 2: And you're never going to get me to believe that.
- 27:25Speaker 1: Like there's, there's, there's, there's, it is more likely that
- 27:28Speaker 1: Ole Miss can put something together to give Florida a run,
- 27:31Speaker 1: but you're not going to convince me.
- 27:33Speaker 4: I think the gap is smaller than it used to be,
- 27:35Speaker 4: but I think that Florida is still Florida.
- 27:38Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 27:38Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 27:39Speaker 1: The best job in the country before Ohio state, I mean,
- 27:41Speaker 1: before the NIL era was Ohio state and it is
- 27:45Speaker 1: now Ohio state and will continue to be Ohio state
- 27:48Speaker 1: because again, want to is the biggest factor here and
- 27:51Speaker 1: you will see the NIL stuff catch up.
- 27:53Speaker 2: Some schools are going to be slow to get there,
- 27:55Speaker 2: But once they're going to realize.
- 27:56Speaker 1: Like Pat Forty talked about this at Florida State, all
- 27:58Speaker 1: their allocation toward facilities. You spent money on facilities when
- 28:03Speaker 1: you couldn't spend money on players because what you did
- 28:06Speaker 1: was lure them to come to campus anymore.
- 28:08Speaker 2: Now you pay them to come to campus. So you
- 28:11Speaker 2: don't do that.
- 28:11Speaker 4: You know, like.
- 28:13Speaker 1: The best schools for winning at are going to be
- 28:14Speaker 1: the same. The problem is everybody's going to expect to
- 28:17Speaker 1: win now in a way that everybody did not expect
- 28:20Speaker 1: to win before. And the expectation of winning for the
- 28:22Speaker 1: schools at the top is going to be so much
- 28:25Speaker 1: greater that none of these jobs are going to be good.
- 28:28Speaker 1: You saw in college basketball that once this era started,
- 28:31Speaker 1: all the legends started walking away.
- 28:33Speaker 2: Jay Wright, Mike Krzyzewski. Roy Williams.
- 28:36Speaker 1: I think there are more that we could point to
- 28:38Speaker 1: who looked around and were like, hey, baby, this ain't
- 28:41Speaker 1: my kind of job. Nick Saban looked around and was like, hey,
- 28:45Speaker 1: I don't think.
- 28:46Speaker 4: I'd rather get up early and sit next to Pat
- 28:48Speaker 4: McAfee than coach.
- 28:49Speaker 2: Yeah, like we got to.
- 28:50Speaker 1: Figure out this Sarkeesian thing, the idea that his name
- 28:53Speaker 1: was floated by the Titans and his representatives say, absolutely,
- 28:56Speaker 1: that did not happen. However, that job seems really miserable
- 28:59Speaker 1: to him right now. And I could understand how it
- 29:02Speaker 1: would be. Patience is gone. And the idea that you
- 29:06Speaker 1: do a job that involves working with young people, but
- 29:08Speaker 1: patience is not an option. That sounds really, really stressful, right?
- 29:13Speaker 1: You have to be patient, but you can't be patient. Like,
- 29:16Speaker 1: how exactly are we supposed to get the jobs done.
- 29:18Speaker 2: Under those circumstances?
- 29:19Speaker 4: He snagged probably the biggest recruit, the biggest named recruit
- 29:21Speaker 4: in the last 25 years.
- 29:23Speaker 3: Yes.
- 29:24Speaker 4: They went to, you know, their national championship runner-ups. They've
- 29:28Speaker 4: had all success in the world, and he seems very
- 29:30Speaker 4: tired of it. Yes, all of it.
- 29:32Speaker 2: Like, none of these jobs are good.
- 29:34Speaker 1: What used to be the job to get is the
- 29:35Speaker 1: job Mark Stoops has at Kentucky, a basketball school where
- 29:39Speaker 1: if you can win... nine games every now and then
- 29:41Speaker 1: but keep it between seven and eight just don't be
- 29:44Speaker 1: embarrassing you can work there forever and maybe they'll build
- 29:48Speaker 1: a statue of you Leonard Hamilton did that at Florida
- 29:51Speaker 1: State in basketball right just look don't don't be bad
- 29:57Speaker 1: And everything will be okay. And I think those days
- 29:59Speaker 1: are over. Like, I look at that dude Fleck at Minnesota,
- 30:02Speaker 1: who's going to consistently give you eight, nine wins at Minnesota.
- 30:06Speaker 1: How long is Minnesota going to look at Indiana and
- 30:08Speaker 1: be like, hey, so what you got?
- 30:10Speaker 4: Matt Campbell at Iowa State. You know, someone who is
- 30:13Speaker 4: rumored for, you know, pro jobs and pro jobs. And
- 30:16Speaker 4: he's been stuck there forever. Now they might try and
- 30:19Speaker 4: run him out of there.
- 30:19Speaker 1: So let me ask you an interesting question about that one.
- 30:22Speaker 1: No conference wants to look like it's small time, right? Right.
- 30:26Speaker 1: But I think that we all acknowledge that the Big
- 30:27Speaker 1: 12 is, of the four, it is number four.
- 30:31Speaker 4: Right. And this is with them trying to be forward thinking.
- 30:36Speaker 4: They act like they're the small kid in town trying
- 30:39Speaker 4: to get attention any way they can.
- 30:40Speaker 1: They feel more like what the Big East was in
- 30:44Speaker 1: the power blank, you know, the power six at that point.
- 30:48Speaker 1: And the bottom line is they don't have the right
- 30:50Speaker 1: real estate.
- 30:51Speaker 3: Right. Right.
- 30:52Speaker 2: They have schools in Texas.
- 30:53Speaker 1: But Texas and Texas A & M are taking players
- 30:55Speaker 1: to another conference.
- 30:57Speaker 2: They're not.
- 30:59Speaker 1: They the real estate has never been great for the
- 31:01Speaker 1: big eight slash 12.
- 31:03Speaker 2: It never has.
- 31:04Speaker 4: And then the two best players. school's got out of there.
- 31:07Speaker 2: Correct.
- 31:07Speaker 1: But it's never been worse than it is now, right?
- 31:10Speaker 1: Like they don't have it. They over there, I think
- 31:15Speaker 1: that that's maybe the one place where you could have
- 31:17Speaker 1: some more realistic expectations because somebody, you can only take this,
- 31:22Speaker 1: but so far out of this conference, you know, like
- 31:26Speaker 1: that's my thought, but sec big 12, all those jobs
- 31:29Speaker 1: are bad. If Vanderbilt is out here holding together a
- 31:32Speaker 1: top 10 season, your job just got bad anywhere around
- 31:35Speaker 1: there because nobody's trying to hear that you can't do it.
- 31:38Speaker 1: If Indiana is a top five school, nobody's trying to
- 31:42Speaker 1: hear where you are that you can't do it.
- 31:45Speaker 2: Like you're going to get your check at these jobs.
- 31:47Speaker 2: You are going to.
- 31:49Speaker 1: But I don't even know really what a personnel market
- 31:51Speaker 1: looks like If these coaches are going to be really
- 31:54Speaker 1: getting tossed out of here after three, four, five years,
- 31:56Speaker 1: like sometimes a rebuild is supposed to take two, three years.
- 32:00Speaker 1: I don't even know how you're supposed to build the culture.
- 32:02Speaker 1: That's supposed to be the important thing. If the players
- 32:04Speaker 1: are turning over so fast, like none of this is
- 32:07Speaker 1: going to make any sense.
- 32:09Speaker 2: None of it is. Are we going to start rotating
- 32:11Speaker 2: younger coaches in more?
- 32:12Speaker 1: Is it just going to be a longer lifespan of
- 32:14Speaker 1: retreads because you're going to need somebody that can get
- 32:17Speaker 1: this up and going off the ground immediately? Can you
- 32:20Speaker 1: afford to take the time to go through some growing pains?
- 32:23Speaker 1: Case in point, Marcus Freeman, there were some growing pains
- 32:26Speaker 1: in getting there.
- 32:27Speaker 2: But they got there.
- 32:27Speaker 4: He dropped some bad games.
- 32:29Speaker 2: He did. But that's going to happen. Do you remember
- 32:32Speaker 2: when Dabo Swinney was terrible? Yes.
- 32:34Speaker 1: Like the all takes exposed guy who generally doesn't bother
- 32:37Speaker 1: me except when he's talking about me.
- 32:39Speaker 2: But anyway, he used to go.
- 32:42Speaker 1: He used to go harvest all the Dabo takes. And
- 32:45Speaker 1: I'm like, brother, were you there? Like this was not
- 32:49Speaker 1: a bad. This was like talking about Josh Allen early
- 32:51Speaker 1: in his career.
- 32:52Speaker 2: No, no, no, no, no.
- 32:53Speaker 4: I was at the game where that flipped. That was
- 32:56Speaker 4: the LSU Clemson Taj Boyd throwing up the DeAndre Hopkins game.
- 32:59Speaker 4: That's right. That's right.
- 33:01Speaker 1: But Dabo was doing, it takes time for a young
- 33:04Speaker 1: coach to get there. How hard is it going to
- 33:06Speaker 1: be for those young coaches to get the time to
- 33:10Speaker 1: turn the roster around? Like this is, this is about
- 33:15Speaker 1: to hurdle out of control in so many ways. And

- 34:51Speaker 4: All right, Bo, let's get to some other stories. Monday
- 34:53Speaker 4: night football last night, Chiefs dominated a weird Monday night
- 34:56Speaker 4: football game, 7-7.5, ends up 20-21. Eight to seven, Patrick
- 35:18Speaker 4: Mahomes throwing three touchdown passes. Bo, what was your takeaway?
- 35:21Speaker 1: I mean, look, the commandos are out there without Jaden Daniels,
- 35:24Speaker 1: so there's that.
- 35:25Speaker 2: But guys, the Chiefs are a problem.
- 35:30Speaker 1: That is our takeaway from that is, guys, the Chiefs
- 35:34Speaker 1: are a problem. They are now coming in at five
- 35:36Speaker 1: and three, and it's like all that other stuff never happened.
- 35:42Speaker 1: The Colts had the best point differential in the AFC,
- 35:45Speaker 1: though they are beating bums every week. second best is
- 35:48Speaker 1: the Chiefs. Number three, by the way, is the Patriots,
- 35:52Speaker 1: who are also beating bums. I don't know if you
- 35:55Speaker 1: have looked at the teams who the Patriots have beaten.
- 35:57Speaker 4: Did you see any of Dylan Gabriel on Sunday?
- 36:00Speaker 3: Hmm.
- 36:02Speaker 4: He is bad.
- 36:04Speaker 2: It's that bad?
- 36:05Speaker 3: It is.
- 36:07Speaker 4: I mean, it is. I mean, I think he looks
- 36:09Speaker 4: like someone's little brother out there.
- 36:12Speaker 2: You know what has to be the Browns' biggest fear?
- 36:16Speaker 3: So.
- 36:17Speaker 2: That year.
- 36:18Speaker 1: In 2011 were the Broncos, and they were 0-3, I
- 36:21Speaker 1: guess it was, and they were so bad, and the
- 36:27Speaker 1: fans were calling for Tim Tebow, and I am convinced
- 36:30Speaker 1: that John Fox was like, fine, you want me.
- 36:32Speaker 2: To play him? Put him in the game.
- 36:34Speaker 1: Kind of like when Saban benched Milrow for that game
- 36:38Speaker 1: and put in, was it Ty Simpson? I can't remember
- 36:40Speaker 1: who it was they threw in there who wasn't ready,
- 36:42Speaker 1: and he went back to Milrow, but I'm convinced that
- 36:44Speaker 1: John Fox was, just thought, fine, he'll go out there,
- 36:47Speaker 1: he'll stink, and then.
- 36:49Speaker 2: Magic happened, right? And it just kept rolling.
- 36:52Speaker 1: That is Kevin Stefanski's giant fear in Cleveland, is that
- 36:56Speaker 1: he'll be like, fine, you wash your door, push your
- 36:59Speaker 1: door in the game, and he'll go out there and
- 37:01Speaker 1: at once not be good, but the team will be better?
- 37:05Speaker 5: Right.
- 37:05Speaker 2: That is what I think he's terrified of.
- 37:08Speaker 4: I mean, they're on their bye. They could throw him
- 37:11Speaker 4: out against the Jets and beat the Jets.
- 37:15Speaker 3: Yeah, hey, man.
- 37:16Speaker 2: Jets had a feel-good win over the weekend.
- 37:18Speaker 3: Yeah, it was.
- 37:19Speaker 4: So, you know, you come out and you beat the Jets,
- 37:21Speaker 4: the Shador... We might get Shador mania. Oh, gosh.
- 37:25Speaker 2: I'm not prepared. I told you, man.
- 37:27Speaker 1: Them kids at Dayton asked me why Shador wasn't playing,
- 37:31Speaker 1: and I said he wasn't good enough, and I... He
- 37:33Speaker 1: was about to pull me off the stage.
- 37:35Speaker 4: You said they were going to throw tomatoes at you.
- 37:37Speaker 1: Yeah, I lost the room, man. I lost the room
- 37:39Speaker 1: right there. I mean, like, it really got rough. I
- 37:42Speaker 1: had to give him the two hands.
- 37:43Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 37:46Speaker 2: Easy.
- 37:47Speaker 4: All right. In international news, the police have made arrests
- 37:52Speaker 4: in the jewelry heist that happened last week at the Louvre.
- 37:56Speaker 4: It is not immediately clear if the police have recovered
- 37:59Speaker 4: any of the stolen jewelry, which is worth over $ 100 million. Bo,
- 38:06Speaker 4: we talked about this story a couple weeks ago. What
- 38:08Speaker 4: were your thoughts?
- 38:09Speaker 1: Hey, man, I don't know all the rules over there
- 38:13Speaker 1: in them other countries. And I don't always know how
- 38:17Speaker 1: closely movies tie to real life.
- 38:23Speaker 2: However, you say they don't know where them jewels are.
- 38:30Speaker 1: I tell you what jewels they know how to find,
- 38:33Speaker 1: your family jewels. They will be kicking, you'll be getting
- 38:39Speaker 1: kicked in the nuts until we get to some answers.
- 38:42Speaker 2: Don't you worry.
- 38:44Speaker 3: Um, yeah.
- 38:44Speaker 4: And for instance, I don't really take kindly to you
- 38:47Speaker 4: stealing from the loop.
- 38:49Speaker 2: No, that is one thing. That was interesting. They, they
- 38:51Speaker 2: got away with it.
- 38:52Speaker 1: Like it was the movies, but there was never a
- 38:54Speaker 1: moment where I did not know.
- 38:56Speaker 2: They, they come in a fine jaw.
- 38:59Speaker 1: Don't you worry. You will be caught there. There is
- 39:01Speaker 1: no talk. Talk about an APB. I tell you this.
- 39:05Speaker 2: Did you see that picture of that dude? They showed
- 39:07Speaker 2: dressed like Sherlock Holmes.
- 39:08Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 39:09Speaker 2: That was on the case. I was like, damn, y'all
- 39:10Speaker 2: still do that over here. He must be good at
- 39:13Speaker 2: his job. Cause otherwise we'd have laughed you out the building.
- 39:16Speaker 4: You go and dress like that. If you're like, if
- 39:18Speaker 4: you're the elite of the elite.
- 39:20Speaker 2: You gotta be who you say you are, dog.
- 39:22Speaker 3: All right.
- 39:23Speaker 4: And finally, um, A lot has been made of the
- 39:27Speaker 4: East Wing being demolished at the White House. to make
- 39:30Speaker 4: way for Trump's ballroom. The East Wing, of course, originally
- 39:34Speaker 4: built in the 1900s, now has been replaced for a
- 39:38Speaker 4: 90,000 square foot, $ 300 million ballroom. Bo, what is your take?
- 39:46Speaker 2: Got to be honest with you guys. I don't give
- 39:49Speaker 2: a damn what they do to that house.
- 39:52Speaker 1: I have been amazed at not that there are people
- 39:56Speaker 1: offended by the idea of these changes to the White House.
- 39:59Speaker 1: It is who some of the people are who are
- 40:02Speaker 1: offended by some of these changes to the White House.
- 40:05Speaker 1: Like this is a clear testament to the only part
- 40:08Speaker 1: that matters to you is who is the one who's
- 40:10Speaker 1: doing it. I grew up with people who was like, man,
- 40:14Speaker 1: they need to paint the White House black.
- 40:16Speaker 2: Know what I'm saying? And I've been like, hell yeah.
- 40:19Speaker 1: Okay, you want to knock some walls down and put
- 40:21Speaker 1: in a ballroom?
- 40:22Speaker 2: It seems silly. It's probably a waste of money.
- 40:25Speaker 1: That part kind of touches me. But like the actual
- 40:28Speaker 1: changes to the White House, I don't care. They might
- 40:30Speaker 1: change the White House all the time. I have absolutely no, no, no, no,
- 40:34Speaker 1: no idea. If that's what he wants to do, he
- 40:39Speaker 1: could do it. The only problem is it's going to
- 40:43Speaker 1: be tacked.
- 40:46Speaker 4: You could say, you know, you could find... you know,
- 40:49Speaker 4: a lot of things to say about it. I think
- 40:50Speaker 4: everyone can agree it's going to be, at minimum, ostentatious.
- 40:54Speaker 2: Look bad.
- 40:56Speaker 4: We have a good sense of what Trump's style is. Yes.
- 40:59Speaker 1: Now, the problem is going to be for whoever the
- 41:01Speaker 1: next president is who's like, we're never going to use
- 41:03Speaker 1: that room because it looks so ridiculous. Like, that room
- 41:06Speaker 1: going to look like something off the cover of a
- 41:10Speaker 1: No Limit Records album cover from 1998. Like, it is
- 41:14Speaker 1: definitely going to look like Pen and Pixel Productions. By
- 41:18Speaker 1: the way, Ryan, I don't know if you know, but
- 41:21Speaker 1: some of the no limit soldiers or more like the
- 41:24Speaker 1: no limit ROTC or perhaps the no limit National Guard.
- 41:29Speaker 1: But anyway, a lot of non a lot of volunteer
- 41:33Speaker 1: officers in the no limit armed forces were upset. that
- 41:37Speaker 1: I said that No Limit was more of a regional
- 41:39Speaker 1: brand than Cash Money, which became a bigger national brand.
- 41:43Speaker 2: And I don't think they understood. I kind of meant
- 41:45Speaker 2: that as a compliment.
- 41:46Speaker 4: That was a compliment.
- 41:46Speaker 2: Well, here's what I tell you, is that.
- 41:51Speaker 1: You throw on some No Limit now, in places where
- 41:54Speaker 1: people aren't expecting No Limit, not everybody going to know
- 41:57Speaker 1: what you're doing.
- 41:58Speaker 4: Correct.
- 41:59Speaker 2: You throw back that ass up.
- 42:00Speaker 1: On, everybody's going to know what you're doing. Like, No
- 42:04Speaker 1: Limit got a bunch of dudes, you got to be like, yo,
- 42:06Speaker 1: you remember Fiend? And Fiend was cold, right? Or you
- 42:08Speaker 1: remember Mac? It was a lot more of them too,
- 42:10Speaker 1: but you got to do like a you remember blank.
- 42:12Speaker 1: You ain't got to do that with them cash money dudes, right?
- 42:15Speaker 1: But it happened in part because No Limit set up
- 42:18Speaker 1: the world that allowed for cash money to jump off
- 42:20Speaker 1: of the shoulders of of what they had done.
- 42:22Speaker 4: I have to explain to my friends who I meet
- 42:26Speaker 4: who aren't from Louisiana what no limit is. Everyone knows
- 42:28Speaker 4: what back that ass up is.
- 42:29Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 42:30Speaker 1: It's just, it's a certain chain of circumstances. Before that versus,
- 42:34Speaker 1: I was here and break them off, something hit me
- 42:36Speaker 1: and I was.
- 42:36Speaker 2: Like, oh yeah, this is different.
- 42:37Speaker 1: Like this hits me in a, this hits me in a,
- 42:40Speaker 1: this don't belong to everybody kind of way.
- 42:43Speaker 2: So anyway, stand down. You know what I'm saying? Stand down.
- 42:53Speaker 4: All right, Bo, got some more voicemails we didn't get
- 42:55Speaker 4: to Monday. Here's our first one.
- 42:59Speaker 2: Hey, Bobani.
- 42:59Speaker 6: So a couple years back, I put in a voicemail
- 43:04Speaker 6: on the topic of why I'm not a fan of
- 43:07Speaker 6: the draft and salary caps and all of that. And
- 43:09Speaker 6: I said that as a fan where most of my
- 43:11Speaker 6: friends didn't like the idea that I was against them.
- 43:14Speaker 6: And you said, no, that's a great idea, that there
- 43:17Speaker 6: shouldn't be a draft. There shouldn't be salary caps. So
- 43:19Speaker 6: my question to you is, What's the way to implement that?
- 43:23Speaker 6: Because maybe I'm biased growing up here in New York
- 43:25Speaker 6: City where I'm a big Yankee fan, was a big
- 43:28Speaker 6: fan of Jordan and of these like really successful teams.
- 43:31Speaker 6: And I just see all this talk of parody and
- 43:35Speaker 6: salary cash and drafts is just watering down the competition
- 43:38Speaker 6: to ensure fairness. I thought we live in a capitalist society.
- 43:42Speaker 6: Why are we not trying to ensure the maximum amount
- 43:45Speaker 6: of talent and greatness in our sports? Now is when
- 43:48Speaker 6: we care about fairness.
- 43:49Speaker 3: And so.
- 43:51Speaker 6: How can we get this world where we can get
- 43:54Speaker 6: rid of salary caps and just focus on making teams
- 43:57Speaker 6: as great as possible, regardless of whether it's money, smart management,
- 44:01Speaker 6: or anything like that? I'd love to know how you
- 44:04Speaker 6: see that vision happening. Thanks for the time.
- 44:08Speaker 1: I mean, the unions have to fight back and get it.
- 44:10Speaker 2: That's all it comes down to. And the dilemma.
- 44:13Speaker 1: Is the sport without a salary cap is baseball. And
- 44:17Speaker 1: without a salary cap, there also is not a salary floor.
- 44:21Speaker 1: And so we just have team after team after team
- 44:23Speaker 1: in baseball underspending. And you have these free agent years where, wow,
- 44:27Speaker 1: everybody's getting the same exact contract. I wonder how that
- 44:31Speaker 1: has happened in a sport where they've been busted for collusion,
- 44:34Speaker 1: I believe, multiple times.
- 44:37Speaker 2: But that's the issue. It's just a matter of the pushback.
- 44:39Speaker 1: Now, the thing with the draft is the draft does
- 44:41Speaker 1: not exist to create parity. The draft exists to suppress wages.
- 44:45Speaker 1: That's what the whole point of it is. The parity
- 44:47Speaker 1: part is kind of a secondary issue. It's a secondary
- 44:51Speaker 1: facet of what it is. But no, labor has to
- 44:55Speaker 1: be able to push back to make it happen. And
- 44:57Speaker 1: as of now, no league has decided that that is
- 45:00Speaker 1: something that they want to do or find to be important.
- 45:03Speaker 1: They think that having and with the cap, they think
- 45:06Speaker 1: that having the floor is more important than having the
- 45:08Speaker 1: high ceiling. But they're the ones that's got to make
- 45:10Speaker 1: it happen. Ain't nothing we can do about it at
- 45:12Speaker 1: this point.
- 45:12Speaker 4: The argument is the draft is anti-American.
- 45:16Speaker 2: It is.
- 45:17Speaker 4: You're asking what is the argument and how do you, like,
- 45:20Speaker 4: that is how you frame the argument.
- 45:22Speaker 1: I just can't imagine somebody looking at me and being like, hey, brother,
- 45:27Speaker 1: you're on your way to Salt Lake City.
- 45:30Speaker 4: Hey, Bo, how's Milwaukee sound?
- 45:32Speaker 2: Yeah, but I mean, like, I mean, they did that
- 45:35Speaker 2: to NBA young boy. Like, what I do. You know,
- 45:41Speaker 2: come on now.
- 45:42Speaker 4: All right, here's our next one.
- 45:44Speaker 5: Hey, Bo. This is CB from Texas, documentary Shemar Moore hater.
- 45:49Speaker 6: Got a question for you.
- 45:50Speaker 2: What's your opinion? The song Lady.
- 45:54Speaker 6: Cab Driver to me by Prince is the, knowing that
- 45:58Speaker 6: he played all the instruments, is probably the greatest.
- 46:01Speaker 2: Musical masterpiece that Prince ever did.
- 46:05Speaker 6: If you listen to the music on the song, to me,
- 46:08Speaker 6: it's the greatest musical masterpiece.
- 46:10Speaker 2: I'd like to know your opinion.
- 46:11Speaker 4: Thank you, sir.
- 46:13Speaker 1: Oh man, I'm not the greatest at like when you
- 46:16Speaker 1: started getting into ESTs. Like there aren't that many superlatives
- 46:20Speaker 1: that I'm absolutely on. I guess musical masterpiece, I guess
- 46:23Speaker 1: he's talking about just instrumentally. Like the coldest thing that
- 46:30Speaker 1: to me Prince ever did was like as a concept,
- 46:36Speaker 1: as an idea. When Doves Cry is the one like, oh,
- 46:39Speaker 1: nobody else could have even come up with this, let
- 46:41Speaker 1: alone done it. I think like the most Prince of
- 46:44Speaker 1: all Prince songs is if I was your girlfriend, like
- 46:47Speaker 1: on a number of levels, it's like, okay, nobody else
- 46:50Speaker 1: is like getting here or making this happen.
- 46:52Speaker 2: But just like a masterpiece.
- 46:55Speaker 1: In terms of the music, huh?
- 47:00Speaker 2: That is a tricky one for me to come up with.
- 47:04Speaker 1: I don't think that Lady Cab Driver is it, but
- 47:07Speaker 1: I'm gonna let it stand because I need more time
- 47:08Speaker 1: to think about it.
- 47:10Speaker 4: I don't mean to stump you with these voicemails, you know,
- 47:12Speaker 4: but Best Prince.
- 47:13Speaker 2: That's a fun one.
- 47:14Speaker 1: No, no, no.
- 47:15Speaker 4: Best Prince is always getting in there.
- 47:16Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah. No, no, no, no. Like, that is
- 47:19Speaker 2: a really, really fun one.
- 47:22Speaker 1: Now, if you're talking about the ones where you're saying Masterpiece,
- 47:24Speaker 1: especially just because of the fact that he played all
- 47:28Speaker 1: of the instruments.
- 47:30Speaker 2: Huh, that could be a few different ones. But Lady
- 47:34Speaker 2: Cab Driver.
- 47:35Speaker 1: Honestly, is not the one that jumped out to me
- 47:37Speaker 1: as like, oh, We got to we got to have
- 47:39Speaker 1: that one.
- 47:40Speaker 2: The trick bag on it is Purple Rain.
- 47:42Speaker 1: The only songs on there that he did, I want
- 47:45Speaker 1: to say entirely by himself, are the beautiful ones when
- 47:48Speaker 1: Doves Cry and Darling Nikki. Like the rest of those
- 47:50Speaker 1: are band records, but there's some serious music.
- 47:54Speaker 4: For sure.
- 47:55Speaker 3: All right.
- 47:55Speaker 4: Here's our last one.
- 47:58Speaker 5: Hey, Bomani, this is Alex from Detroit. I haven't missed
- 48:01Speaker 5: an episode in a little over 10 years at the
- 48:03Speaker 5: right time or the Evening Jones episode. Anyway, I don't
- 48:06Speaker 5: necessarily have a question, but I just wanted to call
- 48:08Speaker 5: in to relive one of my favorite moments from the show,
- 48:11Speaker 5: which was you emphatically and immediately being the only person
- 48:15Speaker 5: to call out Ryan Lochte for clearly not actually being
- 48:19Speaker 5: pistol whipped at a gas station in Brazil during the
- 48:21Speaker 5: 2016 Olympics. He was on a full-on heroic PR tour
- 48:27Speaker 5: for allegedly getting robbed at a gas station, which in
- 48:30Speaker 5: fact it turned out he had actually vandalized himself. And
- 48:33Speaker 5: as far as I know, there was only one man
- 48:35Speaker 5: in the entire media landscape who knew that was an
- 48:38Speaker 5: outrageous lie upon first listen, and I think it's worth remembering.
- 48:41Speaker 5: So anyways, I think about that a lot, and it
- 48:44Speaker 5: makes me laugh. So thanks for a decade of thought-provoking entertainment.
- 48:49Speaker 5: Shout-out Shannon. Shout-out the whole ship.
- 48:52Speaker 2: The whole ship! Ryan, you know about the whole ship?
- 48:55Speaker 4: I do not know about the whole ship.
- 48:58Speaker 3: Oh, man.
- 48:59Speaker 1: It just dawned on me that we'll have people who
- 49:02Speaker 1: don't know about the whole ship And so I'll share
- 49:05Speaker 1: the whole ship here. And if my mama want to
- 49:07Speaker 1: turn this off right now, she can, but it's a
- 49:09Speaker 1: pretty funny story. So this is a legendary one. I've
- 49:13Speaker 1: been telling this story for 15 years. and it never
- 49:15Speaker 1: gets old.
- 49:16Speaker 3: Okay.
- 49:18Speaker 2: So my man was at work one day. He was younger.
- 49:21Speaker 2: Now he's my age. This is like 20 years ago. No,
- 49:24Speaker 2: it's not. It was not 20 years ago.
- 49:25Speaker 1: He told me this story in 2009 because I remember
- 49:28Speaker 1: I sat on it for two years before I told
- 49:29Speaker 1: it in public and I held on to it because
- 49:31Speaker 1: he's like, yo, you can't tell the story in public.
- 49:33Speaker 2: I said, okay.
- 49:34Speaker 1: And then after I told it, I told him and
- 49:36Speaker 1: he was like, yo, You really held on to that
- 49:39Speaker 1: for a long time.
- 49:40Speaker 2: And I'm proud of you. So anyway, this guy was at.
- 49:42Speaker 1: Work and old heads were talking about getting divorced and
- 49:45Speaker 1: the reasons they got divorced. And one of them was
- 49:48Speaker 1: talking about how it would say his name is Johnny.
- 49:52Speaker 3: Right.
- 49:52Speaker 1: And Johnny was talking about how he had a woman
- 49:55Speaker 1: and she used to work at a cruise on a
- 49:57Speaker 1: cruise ship.
- 49:59Speaker 3: All right.
- 50:00Speaker 1: And something happened and he started feeling like it was
- 50:03Speaker 1: some shenanigans going on on this ship. And then one
- 50:07Speaker 1: day she came off the ship and the phone rang
- 50:10Speaker 1: and he picked up. And keep in mind, this is
- 50:12Speaker 1: 20 something years ago. So this is probably pre-caller ID,
- 50:15Speaker 1: all this stuff. Anyway, he answered the phone and somebody
- 50:17Speaker 1: on the other end with a name, quote, like Jaime
- 50:21Speaker 1: or Esteban or something, unquote, says, where's Gloria? And so
- 50:29Speaker 1: he's like, whoa, what's going on here? And so this
- 50:33Speaker 1: man like bugged the phone at the house. because he's
- 50:38Speaker 1: trying to figure out what happened. But he also didn't
- 50:40Speaker 1: kind of like stop thinking about it or whatever, you.
- 50:42Speaker 4: Know, but- That was weird and moved on with his day.
- 50:45Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Something happened. And he said, you
- 50:48Speaker 2: know what? I'm going to listen to the bug on
- 50:50Speaker 2: the phone.
- 50:51Speaker 1: And so Gloria on the phone and she talking to
- 50:54Speaker 1: her mama and she's like, I don't, I don't know.
- 50:58Speaker 2: I'm just, it feels like Johnny knows I'm nervous. I don't,
- 51:02Speaker 2: I mean, oh my God. What's he gonna do when
- 51:07Speaker 2: he finds out I'm fucking the whole ship?
- 51:17Speaker 3: Incredible.
- 51:31Speaker 1: I don't know what it is about the three, the
- 51:35Speaker 1: three words, the whole ship, but.
- 51:38Speaker 4: It just, it's very funny. It's really hard. Whoa. That
- 51:47Speaker 4: is a simple yet descriptive. It's good writing.
- 51:50Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 51:51Speaker 2: That's, that's, that's, that's impactful.
- 51:55Speaker 1: That's, that's, that was the end by the way of the, uh,
- 51:59Speaker 1: the relationship. She was on the boat when he heard
- 52:02Speaker 1: this and when she returned home, it had to.
- 52:07Speaker 2: The whole ship.
