- 0:02Speaker 1: This is an unspoiled network podcast. This is spoil Me,
- 0:09Speaker 1: covering one piece the live action Netflix series Season two,
- 0:17Speaker 1: Episode four, Big Trouble and Little Garden. In this episode,
- 0:25Speaker 1: we've got dinosaurs, we've got giants, but most terrifyingly of all,
- 0:31Speaker 1: we have mister three. Welcome to spoil Me. Welcome to
- 0:56Speaker 1: the show everyone. I am Natasha. Thank you very much
- 0:59Speaker 1: to burn Ada and Florian for commissioning this episode. I
- 1:04Speaker 1: decided to switch it up because normally I'll say Floren
- 1:06Speaker 1: and Bernadette, and I was just like, why does Floren
- 1:08Speaker 1: always get to be first hunt? So I decided to
- 1:12Speaker 1: flip it around on you a little surprise. So, oh
- 1:16Speaker 1: my god, Florine is saying a Lego one P series
- 1:18Speaker 1: was announced for Netflix. We don't have much info. It's
- 1:21Speaker 1: probably some kind of spinoff deal. Yeah. I saw. I
- 1:25Speaker 1: was going through Discord really quickly because I was trying
- 1:29Speaker 1: to post a message for Vorkos again, and I saw
- 1:33Speaker 1: the thumbnail for it, but I didn't actually watch it,
- 1:37Speaker 1: so I didn't know. It was like I thought it
- 1:39Speaker 1: was gonna be like a series of shorts, you know
- 1:42Speaker 1: what I mean, But it's gonna be its whole own thing.
- 1:45Speaker 1: I wonder why, like we don't not that it won't
- 1:49Speaker 1: be fun, but like we don't need it, you know
- 1:50Speaker 1: what I mean. I don't know. Oh, they're saying the
- 1:54Speaker 1: same thing that it's probably shorts. Okay, Perhaps perhaps it
- 1:59Speaker 1: would be very funny if the way that the lego
- 2:04Speaker 1: action went was more like a fanfic from the actors
- 2:09Speaker 1: playing the characters, like a D and D session or something,
- 2:12Speaker 1: you know what I mean. I would be very into that.
- 2:16Speaker 1: All right, So let's get started. Thank you, Bernadette. Bernadette
- 2:20Speaker 1: likes my jacket. So this episode, I was really surprised
- 2:24Speaker 1: because I sort of expected all of Little Garden to
- 2:30Speaker 1: wrap up in the one episode, and I'm really glad
- 2:33Speaker 1: it didn't because the story just does need more time
- 2:36Speaker 1: than that. But it has felt like a lot of
- 2:38Speaker 1: times we'll sort of be like hitting one and then
- 2:40Speaker 1: moving on until we get to the ladder end of
- 2:44Speaker 1: the season and then we've got our big story. So
- 2:50Speaker 1: I'm really into the whole atmosphere of this episode. It
- 2:56Speaker 1: just feels really like we are there and you guys,
- 3:01Speaker 1: I'm gonna make a comparison here that I think I
- 3:07Speaker 1: don't know how many people have even seen it. So
- 3:09Speaker 1: yesterday I needed something just on in the background to
- 3:14Speaker 1: keep me company while I was working on some stuff
- 3:17Speaker 1: on my computer. And I didn't really want something that
- 3:21Speaker 1: I was excited about, just something that was going to
- 3:24Speaker 1: fill the empty space. So I put I put on
- 3:32Speaker 1: the most recent Jurassic Park movie, uh, the one with
- 3:39Speaker 1: Scarlet Johansson, Jurssic World Rebirth. And I'm just gonna say,
- 3:50Speaker 1: for a film with so much budget, it just so
- 3:55Speaker 1: utterly fails to create any tension or feelings of wonder,
- 4:02Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. And I just feel like
- 4:07Speaker 1: one piece is managing this in you know, for this
- 4:11Speaker 1: fucking TV show in a way that I'm like, you
- 4:15Speaker 1: don't need to start taking notes on this. I don't
- 4:17Speaker 1: know what to tell you. So we first have to
- 4:24Speaker 1: deal with Robin, who has arrived on the ship at
- 4:27Speaker 1: the end of the last episode. And what she is
- 4:29Speaker 1: saying is here is an eternal log pose, which means
- 4:35Speaker 1: that it points forever to one particular island. If you
- 4:39Speaker 1: go there and hide out, you will skip little Garden
- 4:45Speaker 1: and you will thus be safe. I can guarantee that
- 4:50Speaker 1: you won't run into any baroque people. And of course understandably.
- 4:57Speaker 1: Everybody is just like, why would a baroque works agent
- 5:01Speaker 1: want to help us avoid baroque works agents? Seems sus
- 5:06Speaker 1: thanks Passlofy actually breaks the eternal log pose, which is
- 5:14Speaker 1: a little disrespectful frankly, but you know it's fine, and
- 5:20Speaker 1: I it's it's very funny because like, I really enjoy
- 5:27Speaker 1: whenever you've got context, and it sort of changes the
- 5:31Speaker 1: meaning of conversations, which happens later as well with the giants,
- 5:36Speaker 1: because you know, I already having seen the anime, I
- 5:39Speaker 1: know that they're friendly, but it's very understandable when you're
- 5:43Speaker 1: first watching how you would just be like, oh shit.
- 5:47Speaker 1: And with Robin, it's a similar thing where she's just like,
- 5:51Speaker 1: you may think you're indestructible monkey de Loofy, but your
- 5:54Speaker 1: friends are not made of rubber. And it sounds like
- 5:56Speaker 1: a threat to everybody that, like, you might be able
- 6:02Speaker 1: to escape us, but we'll fuck with your friends and
- 6:04Speaker 1: we'll see how you like that. And really it's her
- 6:10Speaker 1: just being like, bro, you should watch out for them
- 6:13Speaker 1: more because they don't have the resiliency you have, and
- 6:17Speaker 1: so you should be taking this threat a little bit
- 6:19Speaker 1: more seriously for their sakes. At the very least. But
- 6:22Speaker 1: you know, sitting here where we are seeing her as
- 6:26Speaker 1: a threat, it really sounds a certain way. And I
- 6:30Speaker 1: just really love oh. And there's some folks in the
- 6:34Speaker 1: chat talking about Austin says, the way she says Lufy's
- 6:38Speaker 1: name and Florian in general, the way she speaks, love it.
- 6:41Speaker 1: And I was like trying to figure out what her
- 6:44Speaker 1: accent is, because there was a point where she speaks
- 6:47Speaker 1: in the first episode where I was thinking French and
- 6:49Speaker 1: then it was sort of Dutch, and then I got
- 6:52Speaker 1: completely turned around. Austin says, she's German, Okay, her accent
- 6:57Speaker 1: is a little different than the German accents that I've
- 6:59Speaker 1: encountered before. I wonder if that's, like, you know, just
- 7:03Speaker 1: the area that she grew up in, or if she
- 7:05Speaker 1: is doing something for the show or what so. So anyway,
- 7:13Speaker 1: after he breaks a lot of posts, she's just like,
- 7:15Speaker 1: all right, well, good luck, and she leaves and oh,
- 7:22Speaker 1: Austin says, but of Russian descent, And Bernadette says, I
- 7:25Speaker 1: feel like she's trying a Russian accent. Interesting, Okay, So
- 7:35Speaker 1: she takes off and we wind up on Little Garden
- 7:38Speaker 1: and like, I just want to say, and I don't
- 7:40Speaker 1: know if I said this during the anime or what,
- 7:42Speaker 1: but I will admit guys to getting a little bit
- 7:46Speaker 1: hung up on the fact that it's supposed to be
- 7:50Speaker 1: this island that has been untouched for so long that
- 7:55Speaker 1: everything has continued to grow prehistorically. But all of baroque
- 8:00Speaker 1: works is there, and the one piece of pirates or
- 8:04Speaker 1: the straw hats wind up there, and it just seems
- 8:07Speaker 1: like there's no reason for it to be untouched, Like
- 8:11Speaker 1: it just seems like the next stop. You know what
- 8:14Speaker 1: I'm saying. They're just the fact that the baroque works
- 8:19Speaker 1: pirates are predicting that she that our ship is going
- 8:23Speaker 1: to end up there indicates to me that this place
- 8:26Speaker 1: isn't that difficult to find or arrive at. But you know,
- 8:30Speaker 1: it's fine. So the arrival here we have. There's a
- 8:40Speaker 1: bit of a thing going on this episode, an ongoing
- 8:42Speaker 1: thing of Oosop dealing with fear, and when Robin offers
- 8:49Speaker 1: them someplace to go that will keep them safe, he's
- 8:51Speaker 1: instantly like, yeah, let's do it. I do enjoy Sanji
- 8:55Speaker 1: being like, are you gonna come with us? And now
- 8:59Speaker 1: we're just being like, bro, oh, keep it in your pants,
- 9:01Speaker 1: what are you doing? And he's just like, I'm just
- 9:03Speaker 1: asking questions. I don't know what you're trying about. And
- 9:07Speaker 1: when they arrive at the island, there's the sound of
- 9:11Speaker 1: a roar, and us Up really begins to freak out.
- 9:15Speaker 1: So when we disembark and begin to walk around, it's
- 9:21Speaker 1: a lot of undergrowth, big plants and stuff, not great visibility,
- 9:26Speaker 1: and sounds continuing that are really making us Up kind
- 9:31Speaker 1: of go you know what I think not and go
- 9:35Speaker 1: back to the ship. Now, it's very funny to me
- 9:39Speaker 1: in a way that Oosup is a black character, because
- 9:44Speaker 1: like black folks will often talk about how a black
- 9:48Speaker 1: character in a horror movie is the first one to die,
- 9:50Speaker 1: even though the black folks have more sense than any
- 9:53Speaker 1: of the white people in the movie. And it just
- 9:55Speaker 1: sort of reminded me of that, of him just being like,
- 9:58Speaker 1: you know what, I'm gonna be the one person that
- 10:01Speaker 1: doesn't invite a fucking serial killer or monster into my life?
- 10:06Speaker 1: How about that? But uh yeah, he winds up taking
- 10:10Speaker 1: off from the rest of the group and going back
- 10:12Speaker 1: to the ship, and Nami has to track him down
- 10:17Speaker 1: and talk him into continuing to explore and has just
- 10:23Speaker 1: managed to convince him when we have our first giant appearance,
- 10:31Speaker 1: And guys, remind me of these giants' names, because I
- 10:36Speaker 1: always want to call this first one HOGI and I
- 10:39Speaker 1: don't know where why I think I'm combining things, Bernadette says.
- 10:46Speaker 1: I think they can predict it because once you choose
- 10:49Speaker 1: a route going to the next going into the grand line,
- 10:52Speaker 1: every next island is clear because people know where the
- 10:54Speaker 1: log pose will set to. Huh do you choose? I
- 11:01Speaker 1: didn't realize that it even worked that way. How would
- 11:03Speaker 1: they know what route they chose either, Saraphim says. In
- 11:08Speaker 1: the anime, is mentioned that it takes one year for
- 11:10Speaker 1: a normal log post to update for the next island,
- 11:13Speaker 1: So the bigger issue is getting off, getting off the
- 11:16Speaker 1: island once you find it. It takes one year for
- 11:19Speaker 1: normal log posts. I didn't remember that. That's wild okay,
- 11:26Speaker 1: so one year to update on Little Garden. But they
- 11:33Speaker 1: said it was only going to take a couple days
- 11:35Speaker 1: or overnight to reset when they were at Whiskey Peak.
- 11:40Speaker 1: I'm confused here. I feel like I missed something. Sorry, guys,
- 11:46Speaker 1: The route depends on the first island. Your log post
- 11:48Speaker 1: picks at the start there are seven different routes, but
- 11:56Speaker 1: if the first island they go to is Whiskey Peak,
- 12:03Speaker 1: and apparently Whiskey Peak gets hit by pirates fairly frequently
- 12:07Speaker 1: because that is their whole thing is that they kill pirates.
- 12:10Speaker 1: So I'm not it's different lengths, different islands, says Austin. Okay,
- 12:19Speaker 1: you know, I gotta stop trying to figure this out because,
- 12:22Speaker 1: like the truth is, it probably doesn't work and makes sense.
- 12:25Speaker 1: But I'm just the reasons that y'all are giving me
- 12:30Speaker 1: don't seem to make sense to me, So I'm sorry.
- 12:32Speaker 1: It might be a better thing to say for discord
- 12:35Speaker 1: if it's like a more in depth explanation, but I'm
- 12:40Speaker 1: I'm going to stay confused for now. It's fine. So
- 12:45Speaker 1: we break off into different groups. We've got first Luviy, Nami, Viv,
- 12:52Speaker 1: and USAP, but then Usup goes back and Nami goes
- 12:54Speaker 1: after him, so they break off into two groups. Then
- 12:57Speaker 1: we have the bet going on between Zora and Sanji
- 13:02Speaker 1: on who is going to kill Dinner Who's going to
- 13:07Speaker 1: do it first? And I really love the fact that,
- 13:13Speaker 1: like the fact that the two of them are like
- 13:20Speaker 1: Who's going to kill Dinner first? But they both decide
- 13:24Speaker 1: to track the same animal, and they both decide that
- 13:28Speaker 1: they are going to like basically, it's less who's going
- 13:35Speaker 1: to make it kill first, who's going to like hunt
- 13:39Speaker 1: well first, and more who is going to take down
- 13:42Speaker 1: this particular animal that we encounter first. And it's an
- 13:48Speaker 1: odd way to handle it because the verbiage of the
- 13:52Speaker 1: bed is actually really really vague. Whichever one of us
- 13:55Speaker 1: kills dinner first wins, which you could call anything dinner.
- 13:59Speaker 1: You could catch a fit should be like I want
- 14:01Speaker 1: a bird, you know. It's it's really it doesn't have
- 14:06Speaker 1: enough guidelines. But the two of them are they don't
- 14:12Speaker 1: really care about like the principles of this. They just
- 14:15Speaker 1: want to like be in competition with each other the
- 14:17Speaker 1: way they always are. So so they're tracking this dinosaur
- 14:25Speaker 1: and it's great because Sanji is like on its trail,
- 14:30Speaker 1: and it's it's Zoro who keeps claiming that they're lost,
- 14:34Speaker 1: which like nobody ever trusts his word about the direction
- 14:38Speaker 1: we're going, ever, and they eventually encounter this fucking essentially
- 14:47Speaker 1: a t rex. Now I'm gonna read you guys something
- 14:51Speaker 1: because this is I think a fascinating question. This is
- 15:00Speaker 1: from a post on Reddit that I had seen it
- 15:03Speaker 1: circulated a while back, and I thought was so interesting.
- 15:07Speaker 1: A natural history dosn't at a museum, says A guy
- 15:13Speaker 1: asked us if I had a time machine and managed
- 15:14Speaker 1: to kill and cook a t Rex, what would it
- 15:16Speaker 1: have tasted like? And every paleontologist on staff decided to
- 15:20Speaker 1: take him seriously. They did research to learn about fat distribution,
- 15:25Speaker 1: and read up on culinary science to learn what flavors meet,
- 15:29Speaker 1: even did chemical analysis on the bones. They concluded that
- 15:32Speaker 1: it'd be tough. No evidence of juicy fat pockets, bitter
- 15:37Speaker 1: carnivores tend to taste foul, and would probably kill him
- 15:41Speaker 1: because heavy metals travel up the food chain and t
- 15:44Speaker 1: rex accumulated a lot of the cadmium that was in
- 15:47Speaker 1: the dirt in the late Cretaceous period. Wrote him a
- 15:50Speaker 1: letter with our findings, and he sent us back a
- 15:52Speaker 1: drawing of him and his buddies cooking a t Rex
- 15:54Speaker 1: over a fire and all of them throwing up and dying,
- 15:57Speaker 1: And it's my favorite drawing in the whole world. World.
- 16:03Speaker 1: So obviously this is not apply to where we are now,
- 16:07Speaker 1: because like where the world is not like hugely cadmium
- 16:12Speaker 1: heavy as far as I can understand it here. But
- 16:16Speaker 1: I did just think that that was such an interesting question,
- 16:19Speaker 1: And I love whenever scientists get very into the weeds
- 16:22Speaker 1: about something that's hypothetical that's just for fun. It reminds
- 16:26Speaker 1: me of the way that some Jewish people can be
- 16:29Speaker 1: about questions regarding like loopholes in the rules of the Torah,
- 16:34Speaker 1: you know what I mean, and they'll get like very
- 16:36Speaker 1: into like, well, is a camel kosher or not? You
- 16:38Speaker 1: know what I mean? Anyway, So I accept totally if
- 16:44Speaker 1: Soanjy says this meets about to be good, I believe him.
- 16:48Speaker 1: I totally do. But I just thought that that was
- 16:50Speaker 1: like a fun little thing that I wanted to share.
- 16:53Speaker 1: So we have an attack that happens to Zoro. It's
- 17:02Speaker 1: sort of interesting the way that this works, because if
- 17:07Speaker 1: I were going to be like predicting how this would
- 17:11Speaker 1: all shake out, I would much more expect there to
- 17:15Speaker 1: be one whole group that gets goot. But instead it's
- 17:21Speaker 1: like one person from each of the groupings. And I
- 17:26Speaker 1: guess that does make some sense, because as long as
- 17:29Speaker 1: you throw a wrench in the works for each grouping,
- 17:31Speaker 1: you're kind of set. You don't need to take everybody.
- 17:35Speaker 1: So Zoro hears something and is like, do you hear that?
- 17:39Speaker 1: I love SOANGI just being like hear what me winning
- 17:41Speaker 1: the bet? Yeah, loud and clear, these fucking guys. So
- 17:46Speaker 1: he turns and is calling out and there's a giggling
- 17:51Speaker 1: and I'm sitting here watching this for the first time,
- 17:54Speaker 1: going like, oh right, miss Golden Week, Okay, I can't
- 17:57Speaker 1: remember what her deal is. I'll be honest, guy, I
- 18:01Speaker 1: remember the paint. I don't remember exactly how this works.
- 18:05Speaker 1: But she gets a I believe yellow swirl on his
- 18:11Speaker 1: leg and we see a glow in his eyes and
- 18:15Speaker 1: then he gets this weird grin on his face. And
- 18:19Speaker 1: later on when Sanji comes back to find him, he's
- 18:22Speaker 1: just being the fruit Ninja with pomegranates and has like
- 18:26Speaker 1: a stack of sliced up pomegranates and is saying how
- 18:31Speaker 1: pomegranates are the most formidable adversary to practice against, and son,
- 18:39Speaker 1: she's like, cool, well, I just broke down that entire
- 18:43Speaker 1: t rex by myself and almost broke my boning knife
- 18:46Speaker 1: and he's like, boning knife, I'm so sorry. But Zoro,
- 18:52Speaker 1: being goofy, like this top tier so great. The video
- 18:58Speaker 1: that I had mentioned last time, like them all getting
- 19:01Speaker 1: asked about one another like a friendship quiz. It's so
- 19:04Speaker 1: interesting because everybody is super chatty except for the guy
- 19:09Speaker 1: playing Zoro, who really is like you can tell he's engaged,
- 19:13Speaker 1: but he just doesn't really speak up as much, and
- 19:17Speaker 1: so I get the impression that he's a little bit
- 19:21Speaker 1: zoro Ish in some ways as a member of the
- 19:24Speaker 1: group as well. And Sonji is not picking up on
- 19:29Speaker 1: how wrong this is. I feel like it's just Sonji
- 19:33Speaker 1: doesn't like Zoro and just doesn't really want to give
- 19:36Speaker 1: him any more attention. And if this were somebody else
- 19:40Speaker 1: with Zoro right now, they would notice something was really
- 19:43Speaker 1: really off. But for now it's just Zoro laughing and
- 19:50Speaker 1: Sonchi's like, what's your problem? And he says, I don't know.
- 19:54Speaker 1: It's just like I can't stop laughing, and as like,
- 20:00Speaker 1: Sanji basically does a okay whatever man, and he walks away.
- 20:04Speaker 1: Zoro yells out, hey stop, and Sonji does not stop.
- 20:08Speaker 1: He just keeps on going. And I don't know, man,
- 20:12Speaker 1: even if I don't like somebody, if they're on my
- 20:14Speaker 1: team and they yell hey stop with the urgency in
- 20:16Speaker 1: their voice that Zoro had I'm gonna stop Sanji. I
- 20:22Speaker 1: need you to tune in. I guess he's a little
- 20:24Speaker 1: distracted at the fact that he's gonna have a t
- 20:27Speaker 1: rex to cook. He uh. There's also, of course, the
- 20:30Speaker 1: inevitable fight about which one of them actually killed it,
- 20:34Speaker 1: because Zoro finds it incredible that Sonji thinks a kick
- 20:40Speaker 1: killed a t rex, and Sanji is like, that wound
- 20:44Speaker 1: isn't even deep enough to have killed it. Bro look
- 20:47Speaker 1: at it. I made contact internal organs, obviously I did
- 20:52Speaker 1: it where that wound is like a foot deep, Sonji.
- 20:56Speaker 1: So you know, I'm not trying to say either one
- 20:59Speaker 1: of you is the old one who killed it, but
- 21:01Speaker 1: I will say that both of you are completely disregarding
- 21:05Speaker 1: serious damage here. So we then go over to Nami
- 21:15Speaker 1: and Ousap, who are as I've mentioned, they get sort
- 21:19Speaker 1: of surprised by a giant who, at first, because of
- 21:26Speaker 1: the language he chooses to use, they are certain is
- 21:31Speaker 1: going to eat them. And the idea that Nami comes
- 21:35Speaker 1: up with is to have Usop distract the giant with
- 21:39Speaker 1: a story of a great adventure of Captain Usops and
- 21:44Speaker 1: she will figure a way out. And as they're talking
- 21:48Speaker 1: usop tells him a story about killing a mole monster,
- 21:52Speaker 1: which I don't know, man, if I'm trying to demonstrate
- 21:55Speaker 1: my skill to a giant, I'm picking something else. That's
- 22:01Speaker 1: just me. But then he says that like he destroyed
- 22:05Speaker 1: a whole town in killing it, and now it has
- 22:09Speaker 1: the nickname of the King of Destruction. Pretty good scene.
- 22:14Speaker 1: And he then is given a spoonful of stew that
- 22:22Speaker 1: is the size of a horse trough. Which I'll say this, guys,
- 22:27Speaker 1: I'm a big fan of truly huge giants in things
- 22:34Speaker 1: because it's always a fun. I like the comparisons of
- 22:39Speaker 1: what's something like very small to them, that's huge for us.
- 22:44Speaker 1: And there are lots of giants in all kinds of
- 22:47Speaker 1: properties that are just really like they're like twice the
- 22:52Speaker 1: size of a human, and so it's not exactly that
- 22:55Speaker 1: much fun, you know, the like the the ratio. It
- 23:02Speaker 1: more is like, oh, they use almost all the same
- 23:05Speaker 1: stuff as humans do. It's just inconvenient for them because
- 23:08Speaker 1: it's all really small. So they need like six plates
- 23:11Speaker 1: of dinner instead of one, but they still use that plate.
- 23:14Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying. This is just a fucking
- 23:18Speaker 1: gigantic giant and they are standing over the tree tops.
- 23:24Speaker 1: It's like ankle deep for them. So ooh, Florian says,
- 23:30Speaker 1: the other one is Brogy. Dory is the other Brogy.
- 23:35Speaker 1: That's why I keep thinking HOGI, that's why I'm getting
- 23:38Speaker 1: it and Dory. Brogy and Dory. So Brogy is like,
- 23:45Speaker 1: has very little reaction to this fucking once it's cleared
- 23:49Speaker 1: up that he's not going to eat them, and I
- 23:51Speaker 1: do like him being like, well, yeah, I'm started for conversation,
- 23:55Speaker 1: which is why I wanted to have you for lunch.
- 23:58Speaker 1: And they pause and just stare at him, and he's like, oh, yeah, okay,
- 24:01Speaker 1: now I hear it. But the volcano explodes and he's
- 24:07Speaker 1: just like, okay, it's time for me to go fight
- 24:09Speaker 1: to the deaths see you guys later, and they're like,
- 24:12Speaker 1: what now, and he explains about how he's been in
- 24:18Speaker 1: this same fight for one hundred years, and as in
- 24:22Speaker 1: the anime, we don't actually remember what the fight was about.
- 24:26Speaker 1: I feel like we do find out eventually what the
- 24:29Speaker 1: fight was about, but it's way way later, and it's
- 24:33Speaker 1: like in a circumstance where it truly doesn't matter anymore. Sorry, guys.
- 24:38Speaker 1: I see something in the camera that's like on my lip.
- 24:40Speaker 1: I'm like, what is this? So the Florian says, Brogy's
- 24:48Speaker 1: Cave is built in small size and giant size sets
- 24:52Speaker 1: and they cut it together to create the effect cool.
- 24:56Speaker 1: I was wondering about that, So thank you Florian, because
- 25:00Speaker 1: I kept thinking about the way that they did things
- 25:03Speaker 1: in Lord of the Rings, you know, where it was
- 25:07Speaker 1: a very very much reliant on like perspective shots and
- 25:11Speaker 1: proportional sets and it makes everything feel way more real
- 25:15Speaker 1: than doing it all in CGI, and I felt like
- 25:20Speaker 1: it felt very real. Once again. I understand that CGI
- 25:26Speaker 1: has its place. I am not like against it, but
- 25:30Speaker 1: we rely on it too much and we like to
- 25:34Speaker 1: pretend that there is no noticeable difference, and there is, dude,
- 25:38Speaker 1: there just is. And it feels there's something in our
- 25:44Speaker 1: minds that clocks it a lot of the time, not always,
- 25:48Speaker 1: but a lot, and it just sort of will take
- 25:50Speaker 1: the wind out of something that could otherwise have been
- 25:53Speaker 1: really magical. And yeah, when they're in the cave, I
- 25:58Speaker 1: was looking around it like geez, what's going on here exactly?
- 26:02Speaker 1: You know, like trying to figure it out. But it
- 26:04Speaker 1: didn't just feel like CG. And they also make sure
- 26:10Speaker 1: to film the giants almost exclusively from below, as if
- 26:18Speaker 1: we were looking up at them from the perspective of
- 26:21Speaker 1: the characters, and I feel like it's very successful. You
- 26:26Speaker 1: never lose the feeling of how enormous they are, and
- 26:32Speaker 1: when the camera pulls back and shows us the proportion
- 26:35Speaker 1: to the characters, it's pretty brief, and then we go
- 26:38Speaker 1: back into looking up at them, and I really feel
- 26:42Speaker 1: like they managed to maintain this sense of scale very consistently,
- 26:48Speaker 1: which is apparently trickier to do than I would think,
- 26:52Speaker 1: because so many things fail to pull it off. You know.
- 26:57Speaker 1: So the two of them are about to fight to
- 27:01Speaker 1: the death again, and meanwhile, at another part of the island,
- 27:07Speaker 1: we have Miss Valentine and Mister five arriving. Mister five,
- 27:14Speaker 1: I just can't get enough of this guy. I love
- 27:17Speaker 1: his look, I love his voice. I love his overall
- 27:22Speaker 1: energy as a character. You know, like when she's like
- 27:25Speaker 1: you can take your coat off because he's complaining about sweating,
- 27:28Speaker 1: and he's like, no way, It's part of my look.
- 27:31Speaker 1: And there's no like winking at the camera about it.
- 27:34Speaker 1: It's just purely him being like, I have a thing
- 27:39Speaker 1: I'm doing here. Are you serious? I'm not compromising that,
- 27:43Speaker 1: and they are like arriving on this island and they
- 27:48Speaker 1: she has a weird feeling, and eventually we find out
- 27:52Speaker 1: what it is. They come across this weird white built
- 27:58Speaker 1: house in the jungle and her immediate I think her
- 28:03Speaker 1: line is, oh, they sent the psychos, which is correct.
- 28:13Speaker 1: And I had been like I was waiting for mister
- 28:18Speaker 1: three because I knew he had been cast, but I
- 28:20Speaker 1: couldn't remember exactly when he showed up. And for the record,
- 28:27Speaker 1: mister three was one of the villains that made the
- 28:30Speaker 1: greatest impression on me. From the early days of covering
- 28:34Speaker 1: One Piece, we encountered so many different villains, and you know,
- 28:39Speaker 1: some of them are wind up actually being kind of friends.
- 28:43Speaker 1: Some of them wind up growing on me in a
- 28:46Speaker 1: way leader that they didn't in the first place. Buggy
- 28:51Speaker 1: the Clown was one that I was sort of like,
- 28:52Speaker 1: I really love this idea, but I don't know what
- 28:55Speaker 1: to make of this guy. And then as the series progressed,
- 28:57Speaker 1: I was just like, I love Buggy. What a fucking
- 28:59Speaker 1: weird But it took a little bit. Mister three was
- 29:03Speaker 1: a villain that I was like, this dude's terrifying, and
- 29:07Speaker 1: it was like a weird kind of terrifying where it's
- 29:10Speaker 1: not simply that he is that he has this incredible power,
- 29:14Speaker 1: although his power for the record is actually quite intense
- 29:21Speaker 1: to me, But it's more the attitude that he had where,
- 29:27Speaker 1: you know, the baroque works people that we have run
- 29:29Speaker 1: across so far are getting a job done and there's
- 29:33Speaker 1: not often a sense of like I'm having fun with this.
- 29:38Speaker 1: It's just I have abilities and I've been hired to
- 29:41Speaker 1: do a job and I just want to get it done.
- 29:44Speaker 1: But mister three had a gleefulness about him that was like,
- 29:47Speaker 1: you're enjoying this, you like hurting people, And there's an
- 29:53Speaker 1: unhinged aspect to it with the artwork and the way
- 29:57Speaker 1: that he seemed to like tell himself this story about
- 30:00Speaker 1: what he's doing being different than just violence that I
- 30:04Speaker 1: really found to be unnerving in a sort of like
- 30:10Speaker 1: serial killer way, you know what I'm saying. So when
- 30:16Speaker 1: he comes out of the house, the instantaneous reaction that
- 30:21Speaker 1: I had was, oh no, because I think that he
- 30:26Speaker 1: is really well cast. I think bro is like channeling
- 30:30Speaker 1: the energy perfectly. Mister three had this weird sort of
- 30:35Speaker 1: uptight quality about him, and I just had the same
- 30:44Speaker 1: visual reaction to him. When I first first seen mister three,
- 30:49Speaker 1: all I could do was look at his fucking hair,
- 30:51Speaker 1: like very preoccupied to this day with the costumes of
- 30:57Speaker 1: one Piece because they are remarkable. But when at first
- 31:04Speaker 1: it was sort of like I'm laughing at you, it
- 31:06Speaker 1: became a sort of like that just adds to how
- 31:09Speaker 1: unsettling I find you, you know what I'm saying. So anyway,
- 31:16Speaker 1: Candace says it made me think of that scene and
- 31:18Speaker 1: Clueless when Cher's dad asks her if she was wearing
- 31:21Speaker 1: a watch because she was late, and she goes, oh,
- 31:23Speaker 1: watch doesn't really go with this outfit, daddy and laughed.
- 31:28Speaker 1: Canda says he's amazing, and Murder bought the mister five.
- 31:32Speaker 1: Austin says Dalmatchian is amazing in everything. Oh, mister three, okay,
- 31:40Speaker 1: and Canda says his podcast is so weird and funny
- 31:43Speaker 1: wild Okay, So his play here is, Hey, guys, so
- 31:51Speaker 1: you fucked up real bad? Huh. I could definitely kill you.
- 31:56Speaker 1: And I don't think mister zero would even be too
- 31:58Speaker 1: cut up about it, like it might be a little
- 32:00Speaker 1: annoyed that I didn't ask permission first, but he's pretty
- 32:03Speaker 1: fucking pissed. I don't think it would be that big
- 32:06Speaker 1: an issue. However, I need some help, So if you
- 32:12Speaker 1: will assist on that front, I will just let this go.
- 32:16Speaker 1: And he tells them that there are these two giants
- 32:21Speaker 1: that are fucking up his plan that he's got with
- 32:24Speaker 1: Miss Golden Week, who's on the job already, and we
- 32:28Speaker 1: need to get these giants out of the way because
- 32:31Speaker 1: they're way too friendly and they could totally scupper this
- 32:35Speaker 1: entire thing. So when we have the fight, we find
- 32:42Speaker 1: out that mister five put earwax in the beer, which
- 32:46Speaker 1: causes it to explode inside Brogie's stomach, and we can
- 32:52Speaker 1: actually see the smoke and whatnot. But for whatever reason,
- 32:57Speaker 1: Dory isn't seeing that, and and Brogy isn't willing to
- 33:02Speaker 1: call a halt to the fight, despite obviously there being
- 33:05Speaker 1: some hanky panky going on. So Dorry defeats Brogi, and
- 33:13Speaker 1: as they're watching on the sidelines, we've got viv Loofy
- 33:19Speaker 1: Nami and Oosap. Nami has already been got by Miss
- 33:24Speaker 1: Golden Week. She has done green I think on Nami,
- 33:29Speaker 1: and so Nami goes into this odd sort of like ambivalence.
- 33:34Speaker 1: The state almost of like when somebody is really stoned
- 33:37Speaker 1: and just doesn't care that strongly one way or the
- 33:40Speaker 1: other because they're very distracted. There comes a point where
- 33:43Speaker 1: she's laying on a rock and she's just like this
- 33:45Speaker 1: rock is soft, and it's such a weird moment. So
- 33:52Speaker 1: when they're watching the fight, Vivi says something like, I
- 33:56Speaker 1: hate to say it, but I think maybe Dory drugged him.
- 33:59Speaker 1: And I love and I feel like this is how
- 34:02Speaker 1: it was in the anime as well. I love that.
- 34:05Speaker 1: Instantly Usup is like, he would not do that. I
- 34:08Speaker 1: get the fuck out of here now. There is somebody
- 34:10Speaker 1: else here. There must be because that doesn't make any sense,
- 34:14Speaker 1: and he is correct, like Brogi isn't going to not Brogie.
- 34:19Speaker 1: Dory isn't going to drug a guy that he's been
- 34:22Speaker 1: fighting for one hundred years to a stalemate every day.
- 34:25Speaker 1: Why would he do that? It doesn't make any logical sense.
- 34:30Speaker 1: So once Brogi falls, Usav's trying to stop the fight.
- 34:36Speaker 1: Brogie won't stop. He falls, and then he's speaking to
- 34:40Speaker 1: Dory beside Brogi's body later and he's like, something happened
- 34:46Speaker 1: to him. I tried to stop the fight. And the
- 34:50Speaker 1: guy playing Dory, I think does a really nice job
- 34:54Speaker 1: of like managing to be both a little doofy and
- 35:00Speaker 1: seem intelligent, Like he combines these things that seem like
- 35:03Speaker 1: they would be at odds with each other really well,
- 35:06Speaker 1: and he's just like, how could I have failed to
- 35:08Speaker 1: notice that? And gets really upset. Understandably Now in the anime,
- 35:19Speaker 1: Brogi makes it and is still alive. I don't know
- 35:24Speaker 1: if this is going to have that happen or not.
- 35:27Speaker 1: This is one of the few times where I'm gonna
- 35:29Speaker 1: be like, dude, who made it, should still make it.
- 35:33Speaker 1: A lot of deaths. I'll be like, yeah, keep him dead.
- 35:36Speaker 1: Should have been dead. This is how it should have
- 35:37Speaker 1: been all along. But this is one where I'm sort
- 35:39Speaker 1: of like, you better not of if he is really dead,
- 35:43Speaker 1: I'm gonna take issue with you. Good sirs. So Dori
- 35:50Speaker 1: goes to Brogi's home, his giant cave, and there's like
- 35:56Speaker 1: one of those areas on the walls where he has
- 35:58Speaker 1: been scratching the you know as each passing day and
- 36:01Speaker 1: fight happens, and he is in the midst of like
- 36:05Speaker 1: talking about how he's going to get the people who
- 36:07Speaker 1: did this to brokie and make them pay. When suddenly
- 36:11Speaker 1: this like dagger impales his hand into the stone, and
- 36:17Speaker 1: it's mister three who helpfully informs him, I ate the
- 36:23Speaker 1: wax wax fruit and it becomes hard to steel once
- 36:29Speaker 1: it hardens, and you are going to be my next
- 36:35Speaker 1: work of art. And he begins to wave his hands
- 36:40Speaker 1: and waxes flowing toward the camera. We don't see what
- 36:46Speaker 1: happens to Dory in this episode. We just know that
- 36:49Speaker 1: mister three was able to get the drop on him.
- 36:54Speaker 1: So to go back to uh Zoro or not Zoro,
- 37:02Speaker 1: Loofy and viv I. I still like Vivi because you know,
- 37:12Speaker 1: I'm sort of on the watch for like what kind
- 37:16Speaker 1: of got to me about her in the anime. We
- 37:20Speaker 1: haven't hit anything like that yet, I will say that,
- 37:24Speaker 1: and I feel this way about in Supernatural. The role
- 37:29Speaker 1: that Sam often has to play, the character that has
- 37:35Speaker 1: to try and keep the free spirited character on track,
- 37:40Speaker 1: often unfortunately winds up being like saddled with I don't
- 37:47Speaker 1: like you as a character when it's just that they're
- 37:51Speaker 1: kind of they have to play the stick in the
- 37:53Speaker 1: mud roll a little bit in order to keep one
- 37:57Speaker 1: of these people from completely going off the rails. So
- 38:02Speaker 1: there were some times where I was kind of like
- 38:04Speaker 1: annoyed by her here and there, and then I was like,
- 38:07Speaker 1: it's not even about her though, It's just anybody that
- 38:09Speaker 1: they paired Loofy with would probably be saying some similar
- 38:14Speaker 1: stuff to try and reel him in, and that's just
- 38:16Speaker 1: going to be what happens. So she is very shaken
- 38:24Speaker 1: by the appearance of Robin and the implicit threat, and
- 38:28Speaker 1: she's just not really understanding why nobody else seems to
- 38:31Speaker 1: be taking that very seriously, and is like, I appreciate
- 38:37Speaker 1: that you all got me off of Whiskey Peek, but
- 38:42Speaker 1: y'all learn the crosshairs now in a way that isn't fair,
- 38:47Speaker 1: and I really think that I need to go my
- 38:49Speaker 1: own way, and that way I won't be putting all
- 38:52Speaker 1: of y'all in danger. And she starts off off saying
- 39:00Speaker 1: this to Nami, which results in a very funny n
- 39:06Speaker 1: me is like the way that he says it is
- 39:09Speaker 1: like when he said no and that you guys were
- 39:11Speaker 1: gonna do what you needed to do, y'all just went
- 39:13Speaker 1: along with it, and I don't understand, and Nami says
- 39:17Speaker 1: something like Loofy has it's hard to explain. When you
- 39:26Speaker 1: see it, you'll know. And I just really liked that
- 39:30Speaker 1: wording because it's clear she's gonna be like Lufy just
- 39:35Speaker 1: has a way about him that makes things that are
- 39:37Speaker 1: impossible happen or seem possible. But there's not a way
- 39:42Speaker 1: to say it that makes that doesn't make it sound
- 39:45Speaker 1: like we have blind faith in him and our idiots.
- 39:48Speaker 1: So I understand her just sort of being like, how
- 39:52Speaker 1: do I finish this sentence? And I am really like
- 40:00Speaker 1: the way that the live action has made me feel
- 40:05Speaker 1: like I understand Lufy as a character better more quickly
- 40:09Speaker 1: than I did in the anime. Cannot be overstated. It's
- 40:14Speaker 1: not that I disliked Lufy. It like, I actually quite
- 40:18Speaker 1: enjoyed him. But I found it really puzzling often that
- 40:23Speaker 1: he's in charge when he just seems like a five
- 40:26Speaker 1: year old and Nami's always the one that's actually making
- 40:30Speaker 1: shit happen. And while Lufy has this certain force of personality,
- 40:35Speaker 1: of course it would fail to land a lot, and
- 40:39Speaker 1: I think that's just the nature of the genre itself
- 40:43Speaker 1: and the limitations of animation. But this actor, who I
- 40:48Speaker 1: feel like is embodying Lufy, so perfectly. I look at
- 40:53Speaker 1: him and I'm like, oh, yeah, of course he's in charge.
- 40:56Speaker 1: He is the heart of this. I get it. Like
- 40:59Speaker 1: it's just really surprising how you can take the same
- 41:05Speaker 1: characters and the same stories and you just tweak some
- 41:09Speaker 1: ways that you're doing it, and suddenly I'm like, there
- 41:11Speaker 1: it is. And you know, there comes a point where
- 41:15Speaker 1: I get there in the anime, but it takes a
- 41:18Speaker 1: lot longer and I lose my patience with him a
- 41:22Speaker 1: lot faster. And so far in the way the live
- 41:26Speaker 1: action has worked, they've made sure to have whenever Lufy
- 41:30Speaker 1: acts up, it feels less egregious and less irresponsible and
- 41:35Speaker 1: like less disrespectful of the rest of his crew in truth,
- 41:40Speaker 1: because that was a big part of it for me.
- 41:42Speaker 1: It was always just like how selfish it would seem,
- 41:44Speaker 1: you know. So I think that's part of it, as
- 41:47Speaker 1: well as that they understand how certain things looked in retrospect,
- 41:52Speaker 1: and they like kind of clean up the motivations for it,
- 41:55Speaker 1: you know. So, oh yeah, there's a mention to carew
- 42:01Speaker 1: I haven't finished the combo though, so I'm going to
- 42:03Speaker 1: finish that. Bernadette says, to be fair for it being
- 42:05Speaker 1: your first anime, there was basically no chance to understand
- 42:09Speaker 1: Lufy from the get go, and Florian says and the
- 42:11Speaker 1: sub also did not help. I think I really agree.
- 42:18Speaker 1: I was covering the anime initially watching subtitles, and eventually
- 42:24Speaker 1: I watched I went back and rewatched filler episodes with
- 42:29Speaker 1: dub instead, and was taken so aback at how much
- 42:34Speaker 1: better I found the show because the subtitles are just
- 42:38Speaker 1: a literal translation, but the dub they are translating, and
- 42:45Speaker 1: they are changing up the jokes to work in English
- 42:49Speaker 1: in a way that sub isn't worried about. So in
- 42:53Speaker 1: my opinion, you're getting a lot more of the actual
- 42:57Speaker 1: one piece experience if you watch the dub, because that's
- 43:02Speaker 1: got the sort of like the jokes and the energy
- 43:06Speaker 1: of it are more relevant to me as an English
- 43:11Speaker 1: speaking American, and so they hit way better. And I
- 43:16Speaker 1: wound up just never turning back and going DUB the
- 43:19Speaker 1: rest of the time, and it has made a big
- 43:21Speaker 1: difference I think, in how I feel about the show.
- 43:23Speaker 1: I've been considering actually going back and rewatching from the
- 43:26Speaker 1: start with a DUB, because I do genuinely think this
- 43:30Speaker 1: sub was a mistake. I don't think that I should
- 43:32Speaker 1: have started with that I was doing it because people
- 43:36Speaker 1: feel so strongly about sub overdub. I know that this
- 43:40Speaker 1: is a whole thing, and I didn't fully understand the
- 43:44Speaker 1: way that a dub might work. And I know they
- 43:46Speaker 1: aren't all like this. I know that there was a
- 43:49Speaker 1: dub back in the day that was not good. But
- 43:53Speaker 1: I was trying to like stay as close to the
- 43:56Speaker 1: source material as I could, and it wasn't until I
- 44:00Speaker 1: began to like understand how this all worked that I
- 44:02Speaker 1: realized the sub isn't closer to the source material. It's
- 44:07Speaker 1: closer to the Japanese version of the humor and the jokes,
- 44:14Speaker 1: and if you aren't Japanese, it may not actually even
- 44:19Speaker 1: be funny to you, or not so to me. The
- 44:22Speaker 1: dub is actually more in the spirit of the original
- 44:27Speaker 1: if you are American, it's like that's a better translation
- 44:31Speaker 1: to me. Anyway. The whole thing is just a really
- 44:36Speaker 1: uh it's a very interesting experiment. Like the one thing
- 44:41Speaker 1: that's nice about One Piece being such a long running
- 44:44Speaker 1: series and it being one of the first animals I've
- 44:47Speaker 1: ever watched is that there's been plenty of room for
- 44:49Speaker 1: me to like figure out what works for me and
- 44:52Speaker 1: what doesn't you know? And anyway, So it's a it's
- 45:00Speaker 1: just the way that Lufy in the live action works
- 45:06Speaker 1: for me as a leader consistently is like taking me
- 45:11Speaker 1: off guard because I'm ready to be annoyed at him.
- 45:14Speaker 1: I keep waiting to be like, oh, this guy, it
- 45:17Speaker 1: still hasn't happened. It's like when he does the thing
- 45:20Speaker 1: that sort of goes that, you know, it's me going
- 45:23Speaker 1: a loofy, But I'm not rolling my eyes and I'm
- 45:27Speaker 1: not genuinely annoyed. I'm just sort of like, here we go,
- 45:31Speaker 1: you know. And it's just a really different overall response
- 45:34Speaker 1: I've noticed, which makes like the conversation between him and
- 45:39Speaker 1: Vivi is great because she's super worried about the danger
- 45:43Speaker 1: therein She's very much like, I really want to get home.
- 45:48Speaker 1: Can we just get back on the ship, which I
- 45:50Speaker 1: definitely understand, And so them just like wandering around playing
- 45:54Speaker 1: with dinosaurs. She's sort of like, what are we doing?
- 45:57Speaker 1: But there comes a point where Lufy jumps up on
- 45:59Speaker 1: a dinosa and grabs her and pulls her up there,
- 46:03Speaker 1: and you can tell that eventually she reaches a point
- 46:07Speaker 1: where she's seeing what it was that Nami was trying
- 46:09Speaker 1: to describe the fact that Lufy is just so it's
- 46:16Speaker 1: a bizarre combination of totally unfocused and completely zeroed in.
- 46:23Speaker 1: He manages to do both somehow, and so he's like
- 46:28Speaker 1: experiencing a dinosaur for the very first time, but he's
- 46:31Speaker 1: also asking her about her homeland. And I loved the conversation,
- 46:38Speaker 1: Like at one point she says that they have chefs,
- 46:41Speaker 1: and he's like, so, you could get an ice cream
- 46:42Speaker 1: Sunday at three in the morning, and she says, no,
- 46:45Speaker 1: I'm not a child, And I was like, girl, that
- 46:49Speaker 1: was the one point that I was like, Vivi, we
- 46:53Speaker 1: learned to live. Your name means live, you gotta You're
- 47:00Speaker 1: not You're not getting an ice cream Sunday three in
- 47:02Speaker 1: the morning. Fix your life. That's like the point, what
- 47:06Speaker 1: are you doing? But uh yeah, so oh, I'm so
- 47:13Speaker 1: sorry Austin. Right before Florian's comment, Austin says, if Lufy
- 47:21Speaker 1: wasn't Lufy, I would think the scene riding the dinosaur
- 47:23Speaker 1: was setting up him and v anyone else, And Florian says,
- 47:26Speaker 1: you will not believe how many non anime watchers thought
- 47:28Speaker 1: this was a romantic scene. On top of the dinosaur.
- 47:30Speaker 1: Between those two, I am cracking up that Austin said that,
- 47:33Speaker 1: and it's followed by Florian being like, can you believe this?
- 47:38Speaker 1: I find that hilarious just because to me it was
- 47:43Speaker 1: so not romantic at all, like how all? But I
- 47:49Speaker 1: don't know, man, there is like it's not. I maybe
- 47:55Speaker 1: if I didn't know what he's like from the anime,
- 48:00Speaker 1: I wouldn't feel as certain. But the animal, he's just
- 48:04Speaker 1: so sexless. There's never a point with Loofy where it
- 48:07Speaker 1: feels like he's attracted to anybody ever, at any point.
- 48:11Speaker 1: So I have just completely written him off as being
- 48:16Speaker 1: romantically interested or sexually interested in anybody. This is an
- 48:23Speaker 1: ace representation for me. You know, it's fine, So Austin says,
- 48:32Speaker 1: even some of the show's on lines I saw go
- 48:36Speaker 1: no Ace King, I don't even know what that means.
- 48:41Speaker 1: I'm sorry, Austin. Candace says, I liked it, okay, sue me.
- 48:47Speaker 1: Bernadette Lufy has like minus seventeen sex appeal, and Austin
- 48:52Speaker 1: says his sexuality is one piece. Yeah, I just he
- 48:59Speaker 1: just feel way too young to me. And Vivi is
- 49:02Speaker 1: so mature and so like she has real responsibilities. That
- 49:08Speaker 1: I could actually understand in some ways why people would
- 49:11Speaker 1: expect this to be a pairing, because that's such a thing. Actually,
- 49:15Speaker 1: when you look at the tropes in Romance, the guy
- 49:18Speaker 1: who's an overgrown child making the woman who doesn't know
- 49:22Speaker 1: how to like have a good time anymore suddenly realize
- 49:26Speaker 1: that she's like missing out on the joy of life
- 49:28Speaker 1: is almost every Hallmark Christmas movie, you know, So like,
- 49:33Speaker 1: I kind of see where that's coming from. But he
- 49:36Speaker 1: is just so not sexualized in his presentation that he
- 49:43Speaker 1: is so clearly not filling that kind of role to me,
- 49:46Speaker 1: you know, I don't know. Saraphim says adventure sexual in
- 49:52Speaker 1: Austin' says pirate sexual. Yeah. So he asks her about,
- 49:59Speaker 1: like what do they ride on? Arabiata is what he says,
- 50:03Speaker 1: which is a type of pasta, and she's like, on Alabasta,
- 50:09Speaker 1: we ride ducks. And he's like, word, that's wild. And
- 50:15Speaker 1: it is so looking forward to eventually hopefully seeing carew.
- 50:21Speaker 1: I am real curious how they're gonna pull that off.
- 50:24Speaker 1: I feel like the best way to do it is
- 50:26Speaker 1: have them ride like lamas in duck costumes. Oh god,
- 50:34Speaker 1: I'm so sorry. So eventually Loofy gets got by Miss
- 50:43Speaker 1: Golden Week as well. It's a blue symbol, a spiral,
- 50:47Speaker 1: and he turns around and he's just like sobbing and
- 50:51Speaker 1: he's drooping, and he says, what's the point. And it's
- 50:54Speaker 1: this very over exaggerated depression and made me really excited
- 51:03Speaker 1: about the thriller bark Arc. You know. Eventually I was
- 51:06Speaker 1: just like, Oh, I forgot about that. That's very funny.
- 51:08Speaker 1: I cannot wait, so, oh god, I'm just skipping right
- 51:14Speaker 1: over the joke in the chat right now. It's uh,
- 51:16Speaker 1: didn't happen. So he gets got and Miss Golden Week
- 51:23Speaker 1: is pretty much just like waiting for viv to find them.
- 51:29Speaker 1: The way that she does this is that she's sitting
- 51:32Speaker 1: on a rock crying, and she looks from behind just
- 51:36Speaker 1: like a distressed little girl on her own, and of
- 51:40Speaker 1: course Lufy wants to help, and the camera pulls around
- 51:43Speaker 1: so that we can see her face. And in the anime,
- 51:46Speaker 1: to be clear, she is like a little girl, but
- 51:50Speaker 1: in the show it's more like she's a teen or
- 51:56Speaker 1: a young woman who is dressed inside such a way
- 52:00Speaker 1: that she looks childish. But I don't think that she's
- 52:04Speaker 1: like at all. Meant to be that young. She's very
- 52:08Speaker 1: much giving like Anne of Green Gables energy to me.
- 52:11Speaker 1: I was just like, where is this coming from. I'm
- 52:13Speaker 1: not sure, but uh yeah, she knows who Vivi is
- 52:17Speaker 1: and it's just like, oh yeah, I'm gonna get you
- 52:20Speaker 1: and chases after her. And at the end of the episode,
- 52:23Speaker 1: viv wakes up and she looks down. She's just like,
- 52:26Speaker 1: oh no, and I know we're we're gonna be on
- 52:28Speaker 1: that We're carousel thing because I distinctly remember that, and
- 52:32Speaker 1: it is. I didn't like it. I did not like
- 52:37Speaker 1: it at all, So I'm kind of excited to see
- 52:40Speaker 1: how that works out. Austin says, I saw people joke
- 52:44Speaker 1: she looks twelve and thirty at the same time, and
- 52:46Speaker 1: that is dead accurate. It's completely right. It's a bizarre thing.
- 52:51Speaker 1: It's almost like she looks almost like they took the
- 52:55Speaker 1: face of a twelve year old and aged her up,
- 52:58Speaker 1: and they took the face of a thirty year old
- 52:59Speaker 1: and aged her down and then made a composite and
- 53:02Speaker 1: you're just sort of confused looking at her. And I
- 53:06Speaker 1: remember that one of the things that mister THII does,
- 53:09Speaker 1: which I feel like I kind of took issue with
- 53:11Speaker 1: because it didn't seem to fall within the purview overall
- 53:15Speaker 1: of how everything should work. Was that he would make
- 53:20Speaker 1: doubles of them with wax that were like painted by
- 53:24Speaker 1: her to be realistic, and I can't recall if they moved.
- 53:29Speaker 1: I don't think they moved. I think he just made
- 53:31Speaker 1: like a basically a mannequin and we haven't had any
- 53:37Speaker 1: of that. It's her like following them and painting them
- 53:39Speaker 1: in the woods, but it's not like they're being replaced
- 53:43Speaker 1: or anything so far. So I'm interested if they're going
- 53:45Speaker 1: to do that at all, or if that's going to
- 53:47Speaker 1: be like you know, we'll see, But I feel like
- 53:53Speaker 1: I'm missing something. What am I forgetting you guys, because
- 53:57Speaker 1: I feel like I just jumped over like a chunk
- 53:59Speaker 1: of the chat. Oh, thank you, Florian is over here?
- 54:04Speaker 1: Thank you? Florian? Did you like to send off for
- 54:05Speaker 1: Igorim with the fire? And I'm sorry, Saraphim was clearly
- 54:10Speaker 1: trying to say the same thing, but auto corrected you
- 54:12Speaker 1: so dirty because Seraphim wrote Diagram's final It's definitely meant
- 54:18Speaker 1: to be Igorm's fire, but I'm gonna think of it
- 54:25Speaker 1: as Diagram from now on. Yeah, I actually liked the
- 54:29Speaker 1: thing with Igorim quite a bit. I just felt like,
- 54:34Speaker 1: you know, there are times where in the anime, it'll
- 54:40Speaker 1: the thing with the anime, and this isn't even a
- 54:42Speaker 1: fault of the anime itself. It's more a fault of
- 54:45Speaker 1: like storytelling techniques overall. Sometimes when you do too many
- 54:50Speaker 1: long shots and emotional music and you really try and
- 54:56Speaker 1: lay on the pathos of scenes, I can start to
- 54:59Speaker 1: feel the opposite, because I'm irritated by, it seems being
- 55:02Speaker 1: manipulated by what you're doing instead of letting the emotion
- 55:07Speaker 1: of the scene speak for itself. It feels like you're
- 55:10Speaker 1: trying to influence me to feel something with all of
- 55:14Speaker 1: these tricks. And that can happen, especially in the anime,
- 55:20Speaker 1: because they draw things out so much that it won't
- 55:23Speaker 1: even necessarily be that they're trying to manipulate specifically as
- 55:27Speaker 1: much as they draw everything out, and so of course
- 55:29Speaker 1: this is getting drawn out too. It's just the nature
- 55:32Speaker 1: of the beast. But it will feel for me very
- 55:34Speaker 1: much like you're just trying to get to me now,
- 55:36Speaker 1: and it's annoying. And this scene was just perfectly done
- 55:41Speaker 1: where she's struggling with her grief for Igorm and it's
- 55:47Speaker 1: Dori who's like, we would bury them or we would
- 55:50Speaker 1: burn them and you know, talk about their great deeds
- 55:55Speaker 1: and whatnot, and she's like, I don't even have his body.
- 55:57Speaker 1: And Lufy suggests the handkerchief that she had wrapped her
- 56:02Speaker 1: hair in, so she burns it and makes a lovely
- 56:07Speaker 1: speech that I really found genuinely moving. Especially there's a
- 56:11Speaker 1: part where she says and no matter like how long
- 56:15Speaker 1: I was away, you always felt like home to me.
- 56:19Speaker 1: And I was just like, oh, that's a good that's
- 56:22Speaker 1: a good line. And behind her, Dorry is crying and
- 56:27Speaker 1: it's just like, I'm sorry, it's so beautiful. I was like,
- 56:30Speaker 1: it really was. It really was. And it's a moment
- 56:38Speaker 1: for me too of being like, Okay, VIVI might be
- 56:41Speaker 1: all right as a queen, you know, like maybe she
- 56:44Speaker 1: could do this. Actually that felt put together, and that
- 56:47Speaker 1: felt like, I don't know, queen Lee, you know. So
- 56:53Speaker 1: I did actually really like that scene, and I like
- 56:56Speaker 1: Lufy being able to be solemn, and uh, it was
- 56:59Speaker 1: just a good moment of giving her a little bit
- 57:03Speaker 1: of space to cope with what she just went through,
- 57:05Speaker 1: because it was fucking it was trauma, you know, and
- 57:10Speaker 1: to just then be like ooh, amazing island and not
- 57:12Speaker 1: like deal with that at all would feel very flippant.
- 57:17Speaker 1: And I don't think that. I'm really curious again to
- 57:23Speaker 1: see whether or not he's actually died, but I think
- 57:25Speaker 1: he has. I feel like we really have killed him,
- 57:28Speaker 1: so Saraphim says. Fun trivia. One of the wooden statues
- 57:36Speaker 1: Brogi carved looks like the silhouette of Loki we see
- 57:40Speaker 1: in the Lola flashback with Big Mom. Wow, Sara, I
- 57:49Speaker 1: don't remember that flashback the Loki. Which one's Loki? Is
- 57:54Speaker 1: he the guy who found Big Mom. I'm trying to
- 57:59Speaker 1: remember which when he's because like, I feel like it's
- 58:04Speaker 1: Dory who says something about how I just wish that
- 58:07Speaker 1: I could give you some semla. No, it's it's Sproky
- 58:12Speaker 1: because he's talking to Nami and he brings up semla
- 58:17Speaker 1: and how he was able to eat like an entire
- 58:20Speaker 1: table full of it by himself, and I was just like, huh. Interesting.
- 58:26Speaker 1: The giant who wanted to marry Lola. Loki was supposed
- 58:30Speaker 1: to marry Lola, but she said no one walked away.
- 58:32Speaker 1: Oh wow, way Okay, yeah, barely remember that. Uh, and
- 58:41Speaker 1: he is the Prince of the Giants or something like that,
- 58:43Speaker 1: said Florian. Okay, wow, those kinds of little Easter eggs
- 58:49Speaker 1: are fun. Huh. I really need to make a fucking semla.
- 58:53Speaker 1: By the way, you guys, I might I might, like,
- 58:57Speaker 1: if there's an episode that you guys think would be
- 58:59Speaker 1: particularly fun to watch me watch, I might like make
- 59:03Speaker 1: some similar for the occasion and eat it and watch
- 59:05Speaker 1: the episode like on camera or something as like a treat,
- 59:08Speaker 1: because I'm so curious what it's like. I'm really really curious,
- 59:12Speaker 1: and I can bake, you know, I could probably do something.
- 59:15Speaker 1: Sometimes it's hard to find certain ingredients around here, but
- 59:17Speaker 1: like if it's not perishable, I can often order it
- 59:21Speaker 1: and you know, I can get it delivered. And I'm
- 59:24Speaker 1: really curious about it. Bernadette says, oh my god, I
- 59:29Speaker 1: need to rewatch. I also forgot about Loki being supposed
- 59:31Speaker 1: to marry Lila, and Bernadette is very excited at the
- 59:35Speaker 1: idea of making semila, which, by the way, guys, I
- 59:38Speaker 1: just wanted to pull up a nice tidy description of it.
- 59:41Speaker 1: A semila is a traditional Swedish sweet bun flavored with
- 59:45Speaker 1: cardamom that is sliced open and filled with almond paste
- 59:48Speaker 1: and whipped cream, then dusted with powdered sugar. Traditionally eaten
- 59:52Speaker 1: before Lent, especially on Shrove Tuesday. Wow, never heard of
- 59:57Speaker 1: that one. It's now a popular treat enjoyed throughout the
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: winter and spring in Sweden and other Nordic countries. And
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: I being that it's just after Easter right now, and
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: so you know we're in April, it seems like a
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: good timing for it. Excuse me. Shrove Tuesday is the
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: day preceding ash Wednesday used to consume rich foods like eggs,
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: butter and sugar before the fasting season. Ah haha, Okay,
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: cool Florian. After seeing what it did to Big Mom,
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: I don't know if I want to try it. Yeah,
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: I might wake up and have eaten my house, but
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: who knows. Anyway, I feel like that's everything. I feel
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: like I managed to cover it all. I'm trying to
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: just like mentally scroll back because I got the episode
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: in front of me, but sometimes scrolling real quick on
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: this does not work too well. Oh oh, there is
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: a moment where because I had talked briefly about Usop
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: dealing with his fear, and he at one point when
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: he's talking to Broghi says something about like, how do
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: you face death without fear? And he's uncharacteristically serious when
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: he asked this question, and then later when he's watching
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: them fight, is like, I want to be like them
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: where they're fucking like going for it and they're wholehearted
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: about it, and it's like he understands about the honor,
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: which is extremely funny coming from somebody who lies on
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: the regular, but just a lot of Oosop sort of
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: finding some inspo on this trip and sort of looking
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: at the way he's been operating and trying to ask
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: himself the tough questions of like I wanted to go
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: on an adventure, Why am I hiding on this ship?
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: Is this how I want to be? You know? So?
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: Uh yeah, I'm really I have been enjoying the way
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: us Up has been handled the break with Oosup that's coming.
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: I'm like dreading you guys. It was so good in
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: the anime, and I know it's going to be fucking
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: devastating in the live action because these actors are very
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: good and I am already just like I can't handle it.
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: Oh bye bye bye boy. All right, so I'm gonna
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: wrap up now. Thank you guys again so much for coming,
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: for hanging out. Appreciate you all so much. Until next
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: time to the loom. Motherfuckers. That was an unspoiled Network podcast.
