Latest / What's Your (Least) Favorite Scary Movie? / #279: Texas Chainsaw Massacre: Next Generation (1994)
Transcript
- 0:06Hello, what's your least favorite scary movie?
- 0:124 letters, one word. Well, can I watch your least
- 0:19favorite scary movie? The podcast where we talk about
- 0:21the good, the man, the ugly and the absurd, and all of our
- 0:25favorite and least favorite scary movies.
- 0:27Because we believe every horror movie rightfully has its fan
- 0:30base. Even if we don't always get it.
- 0:32My name is Travis. And name is Jesse.
- 0:34And God damn we are taking prom month out with a bang.
- 0:38Oh man, we are doing Texas Chainsaw Massacre the next
- 0:42generation. And yes, we did primarily choose
- 0:45Texas Chainsaw as our next franchise because we realized we
- 0:49could do Next Generation during prom month.
- 0:51I think this is like one of the only franchises that would allow
- 0:54that. Yes.
- 0:54So yeah, it works out perfectly. Also out perfectly.
- 0:57I'm really sorry if we like it looks like we we, we spiked.
- 1:00We did. We definitely did.
- 1:02That that audio might not be usable.
- 1:04Sorry if we throughout anybody's speakers.
- 1:07Yeah, yeah. All right.
- 1:08But yeah, we're, we're talking about the no next generation.
- 1:11Yeah, Texas. Yeah, it's on Massacre this
- 1:13week. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:14Yeah, yeah. Only announcement I have is that
- 1:18probably by now, if not by now, then it'll be by Saturday.
- 1:22The budget tier patrons have a bonus episode.
- 1:26And fortuitously, what happened is that Netflix released Fear
- 1:32St. Prom Queen this month.
- 1:35We didn't even know that was gonna happen.
- 1:36And we're like, oh hey, let's do like a bonus review of that
- 1:40movie. So it's kind of similar to how
- 1:42we did the Strangers Chapter 1 review.
- 1:44Yeah, it's gonna be a not full episode, but it's gonna be kind
- 1:49of like a mini episode, mini bonus.
- 1:52Review episode where we talk about what we liked about the
- 1:55movie. We probably won't have a ton of
- 1:56background just because it just came out and it's a Netflix.
- 1:59It's gonna be a special because it's gonna be a special.
- 2:01Yeah, it's gonna be. It's it's own thing.
- 2:04We're gonna do different stuff for that one.
- 2:05It'll be fun. We haven't recorded it yet, so I
- 2:07can't tell you what all goes on, but yeah, let's go.
- 2:09Go. Find out.
- 2:10We're hoping that it's gonna be fun.
- 2:11We're optimistic that we're gonna enjoy the movie.
- 2:14Yeah, I think so. I like all the.
- 2:15Other ones, yeah, well. Except for the one that went
- 2:17back in time. Yeah, I don't like that.
- 2:18Except for the one you didn't like.
- 2:20Just one two out of three is still pretty solid, I think.
- 2:24So 66%, let's see if that will shoot up to 75 or down to 50.
- 2:30Okay, cool all. Right, You like those math
- 2:32skills? Yeah, that was actually
- 2:33impressive. It's almost like I'm an
- 2:35accountant now. Well, no, You're supposed to get
- 2:38the numbers wrong first. You're never at the first time.
- 2:41OK, so let's move on. I've got more numbers.
- 2:44We did a poll. Yes, we did.
- 2:46And we talked about Urban Legends 3 Bloody Mary last week.
- 2:49Yes. And we asked, what's your
- 2:51favorite little UL? Favorite little UL?
- 2:54So the options were the spider face urban legend.
- 2:58As in cut off your nose to spider face?
- 3:01Yeah. The one where the spider climbs
- 3:03in the dull mouth and then climbs out and just like gets
- 3:06inside your skin and it's like a eggs weighed inside of you.
- 3:09It's not really fun. Next up, people can lick too and
- 3:14then Bloody Mary. So 0 for spider face, 50 people
- 3:21can lick in 50 bloody Mary. It's split pretty evenly.
- 3:24I think that's fair because those are both really strong
- 3:26urban legends. Both of those freak me out super
- 3:29bad. I've talked about, we've not
- 3:30covered Candyman on this show yet, but I've talked before
- 3:34about how that is one of the scariest movies I remember from
- 3:38my childhood because for years I was paranoid about him, like
- 3:41just popping up and killing me. So Bloody Mary is very much in
- 3:45that same vein. Well.
- 3:47We have talked about Bloody Mary and paranormal activity in
- 3:51three. They did the Bloody Mary thing.
- 3:53Yeah, yeah, yeah. For me, my, my, the one that
- 3:55always freaked me out the most was the people can like too,
- 3:58because that's just unsettling. Yeah, Somebody under your bed
- 4:01licking your hand. That's like a next level
- 4:03violation right there. I feel like I would know the
- 4:05difference. It's between Talia's tongue and
- 4:07a human tongue. I yeah, I mean, they're pretty.
- 4:10They're pretty different, but still, just the fact that
- 4:13somebody would lick me. I don't.
- 4:15We're kind people and we let our dog sleep on our bed with us.
- 4:18And I let her lick my hand. Yeah, yeah.
- 4:22I just mean more like you're not going to have your hand hanging
- 4:24off the bed. No, no, it'd be the cats in that
- 4:27case. And those are also very
- 4:29noticeable tongues. Yeah, yeah.
- 4:31All right. So enough of tongues, how about
- 4:33we talk about some Matthew McConaughey?
- 4:36How about, OK, so Texas Chainsaw Mascara, The Next Generation,
- 4:41that is the title that it's best known by now.
- 4:43More information on that shortly released.
- 4:47So there's like a limited release in October 1994.
- 4:50That's the date that I went with for like night comparison
- 4:53movies, but it did have a slightly wider release.
- 4:56September 22nd, 1995. Oh wow.
- 5:00OK, but it wasn't like a super wide release.
- 5:02Whoa, what happened with this thing?
- 5:04Again, I'll get I'll give more information.
- 5:06OK, OK. We watched it on our Blu-ray.
- 5:09We have both the theatrical cut and the director's cut.
- 5:11We watched the director's cut, of course.
- 5:13It's available as of today in the US only through rental on
- 5:18YouTube, Google Play, Fandango at home, or Prime.
- 5:22Obviously you're going to hear us talk about it.
- 5:24I would recommend if you want us.
- 5:26If you've never seen it and you want to see it for the first
- 5:28time, take the $4.00 and rant it.
- 5:31Yeah, it's it's an experience, man.
- 5:33You might not like it, but I can guarantee you'll be entertained.
- 5:37Written by Kim Henkel and Toby Hooper Directed by Kim Henkel
- 5:41Music by Wayne Bell Special effects makeup by JM Logan
- 5:44Starring Renee Zellweger Yes. That Renee Zellweger as Jenny
- 5:50Matthew McConaughey. Yes, that Matthew McConaughey is
- 5:54Vilmer. Robert Jackson's Leatherface.
- 5:57Tony Perensky is Darla. Joe Stevens is WE.
- 6:01Lisa Marie Numair is Heather. John Harrison is Sean and Tyler
- 6:05Shay Cone as Barry Travis. It's time for our favorite game,
- 6:09budget, or. Bugtod.
- 6:13Bugtod. So bugged head.
- 6:16Oh, really? Massively bugged head.
- 6:17Wow. You actually have a number.
- 6:19600,000. Only 600. 1000 only 600,000.
- 6:22Wow. Were they?
- 6:22They didn't want this movie to succeed, I don't think.
- 6:25I think there's a conspiracy against this film.
- 6:28You got information? I can tell.
- 6:29All right, I understand. All right, we'll hold off on
- 6:31that. Opening Box Office 28,000
- 6:34Worldwide gross 185,000 What the.
- 6:38Fuck. Hold my hand.
- 6:41Hold my hand. OK, this is going to be bad.
- 6:43IODV score 3.4. No, that bad 3.4 yeah for.
- 6:52This. Yeah, for this, for this, That's
- 6:57that's not there's a fucking smear campaign.
- 6:59I guarantee you Warner Bros, whoever fucking produced this
- 7:03movie's out there, they're out to get it is.
- 7:05Columbia Tristar. Fuck them, fuck those guys.
- 7:08They're. I can't wait to talk about all
- 7:11of this. Oh my God.
- 7:12But first, before we get there, I'm gonna pull up three other
- 7:151994 movies. And it's not my most creative
- 7:19theme, but I went with dirt comedies.
- 7:22OK, that's fitting. Yeah, the first one is Serial
- 7:25Mom, which. I've not seen that.
- 7:27One is more comedy than it is horror, but it's John Waters and
- 7:31I really want an excuse to cover a John Waters movie on this show
- 7:34at some point. So have you seen that movie?
- 7:36No, I haven't seen that one. No.
- 7:38That released April 13th, 1994. Budget of 13 million worldwide.
- 7:43Gross of 7.8 million. IMDb score of 6.8 out of 10.
- 7:47Van and John Waters, 13 million. That's dangerous.
- 7:51So I've been going down like this.
- 7:53I say I've been going down a rabbit hole.
- 7:54It's not been a rabbit hole, But on This Ends at Prom, they've
- 7:57covered several John Waters movies.
- 8:00And they've talked about, like, at various points in his career,
- 8:02they've given him more budget based on how his, like, previous
- 8:06movie did. Oh yeah, yeah.
- 8:08Yeah, I know he's got a lot of successes, but he's a strange
- 8:10man. Yes, Hairspray was really kind
- 8:13of his in with a lot of studios. That's a hit.
- 8:16That's a classic. Yeah, OK.
- 8:18Second movie, Tammy and the T Rex.
- 8:21Who? Yeah.
- 8:22Man also experienced a lot of studio interference.
- 8:25Yeah, yeah, there's a whole other cut of that movie.
- 8:27Yeah. Exists.
- 8:28Out there, there's one that's a horror cut and there's one
- 8:30that's a kid comedy. That's another one with a crazy
- 8:33like 1-2 cast. You got Paul Walker and fuck,
- 8:35what's her name? Denise Richards.
- 8:37Denise Richards. Yeah, so weird.
- 8:38Man, I want that movie. So that was released December
- 8:4221st, 1994. Budget of 1,000,000.
- 8:45Could not find a gross. That movie had more money than
- 8:48Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Get the fuck out of here right
- 8:51here. No, man. 5.3 out of 10.
- 8:55I'll allow that. And finally, what's Craven's new
- 9:01nightmare? You call that a dark comedy?
- 9:05Yeah. The I think he takes the comedy
- 9:08out of that. When he tries to bring it back
- 9:09to its roots. He tries to make him scary.
- 9:12We got a kid walking across the highway in his dinosaur footy
- 9:16pyjamas. You laugh at me for seeing a kid
- 9:18get zapped on an electric fence, but a kid gets walking on the
- 9:21highway and that's funny. He doesn't get hurt.
- 9:25Whoa, OK, it's still dangerous. That released October 14th,
- 9:311994. Budget of 6,000,000.
- 9:33Worldwide gross of 19,000,000. IMDb score of 6.4 out of 10.
- 9:37All right, all right. I have some tag lines OK the one
- 9:41on the poster. If looks could kill he wouldn't
- 9:44need a chainsaw. That's rude.
- 9:47Yeah, Weather Face actually looks kind of nice, this movie.
- 9:50The American legend returns to bring you back to the cutting
- 9:53edge of terror. OK, I like cutting edge of
- 9:56terror. That's a nice little pun.
- 9:58Yeah, I like that too. That's pretty good.
- 10:00Buzz is back. I feel like I've heard that one
- 10:02before. I feel like it too.
- 10:05I also feel like that could work for yellow jackets.
- 10:07Yeah, yeah. And also Candy man.
- 10:09Yeah, still buzzing after all these years.
- 10:14OK, sure. He's back.
- 10:16You're dead. That sounds like the end of
- 10:20Jonah Hill's slam poetry. Dead.
- 10:24She is dead. He's back.
- 10:26You are dead. Cynthia.
- 10:27She died for our Cynthia's. OK, And then finally the legend
- 10:34is reborn. OK, so those are our taglines.
- 10:37I think we can punch something up at the end of this.
- 10:40Yeah, man, Yeah, there's so much opportunity here for tagline.
- 10:45OK, so. All right, I'm excited.
- 10:48You you backed it up. We can't talk about it.
- 10:49But now we can't talk about it. What happened?
- 10:51Kim Hankel was working with Robert Kuhn to try and get a
- 10:54sequel that was closer to the source material, but one of the
- 10:58characters to be kind of like exaggerated caricatures of
- 11:02American youth. Most of this was shot in like
- 11:05rural Texas, so the city or the towns of Bastrop and
- 11:11Pfugerville. Pfugerville.
- 11:13Pfugerville. It's P FUGER Ville, so I'm
- 11:19hoping I've pronounced that correctly.
- 11:20I. Feel like Matthew McConaughey
- 11:22named that sound Bouger Vale. Most of the cast and crew are
- 11:25actually Austin based. Yeah, that makes sense.
- 11:28And that's including Renee Zellweger and Matthew
- 11:30McConaughey themselves. So Columbia Tristar acquired the
- 11:34rights of this after the 1995 screening and they ended up re
- 11:39editing it and they also retitled it.
- 11:41So before Columbia Tristar got a hold of it, it was called The
- 11:44Return of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
- 11:46They retitled it Texas Chainsaw Massacre Next Generation.
- 11:50They did some re edits of it. Hinkle and Koon actually like
- 11:56initiated some legal action against Columbia Tristar because
- 12:01they felt like they were withholding the film.
- 12:03It wasn't until 1997 they re released it in theaters.
- 12:07Are you serious? And they think that they were
- 12:09holding on to it because Matthew McConaughey and Renee Zellweger
- 12:12became breakout stars shortly after this was done.
- 12:16So right before they finished film, right before they started
- 12:19filming this, Matthew McConaughey had just finished
- 12:21filming Dazed and Confused. Yeah.
- 12:24Well, OK, so I don't think that that was a call from him.
- 12:28I know that much. No, it's just Columbia Tristar
- 12:31is what they they were alleging. They ended up doing another
- 12:36limited release in August of 1997 and it ended up getting
- 12:41nominated for the best home video release at the 24th Saturn
- 12:44Awards. Nice.
- 12:46OK. Hey, there we go.
- 12:47So they they said that this movie was meant to be like more
- 12:53feminists, and the whole storyline of it was about
- 12:58Jenny's refusal to be silenced and oppressed.
- 13:02So that's why there's so much focus on her and her home life
- 13:04and everything. Darla is actually based on a
- 13:08woman named Carla Faye Tucker, who killed two people with a
- 13:11pickaxe during a burglar the decade before.
- 13:15Wow. Yeah.
- 13:17Matthew McConaughey initially read for a minor role and then
- 13:20he ended up re auditioning for Vilmer and he was so scary to
- 13:23the people that were in the auditions that they felt
- 13:25compelled to cast him. I remember he's talked about
- 13:28this movie as recently as this year.
- 13:30Yeah, So God, he is. This is when you, when I think
- 13:35of three Matthew McConaughey movies, it's this Had to Lose a
- 13:39Guy in 10 Days and Wolf of Wall Street.
- 13:40And that's not just because those are the three movies of
- 13:43his that I like the most, but I think it shows his like, full
- 13:46range. I'll throw in Tropic Thunder.
- 13:49Oh my God, I always forget he's in Tropic Thunder.
- 13:51Yeah, he, I remember he talked about this year, he likes this
- 13:55movie. He looks back at this movie with
- 13:57good memories. I remember he said that he was
- 14:01actually about to leave and then he would talk to somebody about
- 14:04the part and he was going to, like, recommend it to one of his
- 14:07friends. And then he was like driving
- 14:08away. And he was like, you know what?
- 14:09I want that part. So he drove back there and
- 14:11auditioned for it for himself and ended up getting it.
- 14:14Good. Yeah, that's really cool.
- 14:15I'm glad that he likes it too. Yeah, and apparently Renee
- 14:18Zellweger was her first choice. From the moment she auditioned,
- 14:21she was good. Yeah.
- 14:22Yeah. And then finally, there are
- 14:24actually 3 cameos at the end. You caught Marilyn Burns.
- 14:28I know the other one. As she's being wheeled down in
- 14:33the Gurney. Can I guess what the next one
- 14:34is? Yes, Franklin is the one
- 14:36willing. Yep, Yep.
- 14:37Paul a partain and then finally, you're not going to get this
- 14:42one. No, probably not.
- 14:43She's wearing so much prosthetics in the initial, but
- 14:45John Dugan. Who's John Dugan?
- 14:48He was grandpa in the 1st. One, he was the original.
- 14:50Grandpa. Yeah.
- 14:52He was the cop that was interviewing Jenny at the
- 14:54hospital. Really.
- 14:55Yeah. Wow.
- 14:57So he played two roles in this. He is the original grandpa and
- 15:00he's at yes, he didn't play grandpa in this too.
- 15:02OK, OK, I got. You I don't even bother getting
- 15:04Grandpa's name in this one because it was so weird.
- 15:06Because Grandpa's canonically dead.
- 15:08He walks in this. Movie I know he's.
- 15:10Alive in this movie. It's weird, but Marilyn Burns is
- 15:13actually listed as anonymous in the credits for this and that
- 15:15was due to her SAG membership. So.
- 15:18Interesting. Those are my fun facts.
- 15:20There's actually a lot more out there, but I was just like
- 15:22running out of room so. Yeah, this is an interesting
- 15:25movie. There's a lot of weird things
- 15:26going on with it. Yes, definitely.
- 15:29It's perfect, Yes. All right, man.
- 15:31So let's get into. It let's get into it I don't
- 15:36know and he does say that in this movie you guys all.
- 15:39Right. All right.
- 15:41So I'll kick it off. So the good that I have for
- 15:44this, this is one of the Texas Chainsaw massacres where I feel
- 15:48the comedy actually hits for me. It's really funny.
- 15:51I think the it's the characters mostly.
- 15:54I feel like they nailed the characters, especially the high
- 15:56schoolers. The whole ride at the beginning
- 15:59when they're all in the car together and they're just
- 16:01calling Barry out on his bullshit is so fucking funny.
- 16:04And he is such a fucking liar. And he's like just, he's such a
- 16:07fucking like teenage boy and it's funny.
- 16:09I love it so much. And here's the thing, and this
- 16:12might be partially influenced by the fact that you've had Trailer
- 16:15Park Boys on a lot lately, but he gives me massive Ricky
- 16:19energy. He's Ricky if Ricky knows how to
- 16:21string sentences together. No, because he even pulls A
- 16:24Rickyism because he says prostate cancer.
- 16:26You're right, he does, yeah. Prostate case and he also looks
- 16:29like him. He does have some Ricky in his
- 16:31face there, yeah. He could pass for a young Ricky
- 16:34in this. I just man, it's so fucking
- 16:35funny. I love it.
- 16:36They know it with this one. They have weird ass characters
- 16:39in this movie too, which for a Texas Chainsaw movie to have it
- 16:43more weird than usual, I think is it's an accomplishment.
- 16:47I. Think Yeah, well, they do it a
- 16:49good job with Heather too, who like is the pretty popular girl
- 16:53and she even acknowledges she's like, my mom's only married for
- 16:56money and that's the only and I'm with you.
- 16:58I don't actually really like you and I don't think you really
- 16:59like me either. She.
- 17:01Has some of my favorite lines too.
- 17:02But I like also when she's like yeah I just pretend to be a dumb
- 17:06hair head because that's just what I feel like you have to do.
- 17:09But really, I'm just a bitch. Like in the whole thing is like,
- 17:13yeah, when they're talking about like, no sex.
- 17:15And it's like, you know what, maybe it is my fault.
- 17:16Maybe he'll get cancer if I don't have sex with him or
- 17:18something like that. I feel like she's just trying to
- 17:19like play along with him but also like be sarcastic at the
- 17:23same time. Yes, I I love Heather.
- 17:26I think she is a fantastic character and she's like a good.
- 17:29I love pairings and movies where it's like the Super popular girl
- 17:33who's friends with the nerdy girl and you're like, how did
- 17:35they become friends? It's kind of like a Jennifer's
- 17:37Body, yeah type dynamic. Yeah.
- 17:39I also think, like, the performances in this movie are
- 17:41really good too. I mean, obviously you're getting
- 17:43some future A listers here with Matthew McConaughey, who fucking
- 17:46kills it, man. He is one of my favorite
- 17:49villains in the entire franchise.
- 17:51And it's rare that anybody upstages a weather face for me
- 17:56because usually the weather face is always going to win.
- 17:58But in this movie, Vilmer is the fucking man.
- 18:02He is the one to watch. I fucking love him.
- 18:04He does not hold back an ounce. Dude.
- 18:07And just like his chaos when he's in my house is screaming.
- 18:11It's just perfect dude. He plays it so well.
- 18:13I love it so much. I will never ever ever get tired
- 18:17of when he gets like real angry and also excited for a hunt his.
- 18:23Dude and the thing when he sends Leatherface to go chase Jenny
- 18:27and then he like finally gets his leg.
- 18:29The word game is like Bill. Murr Boo.
- 18:34Man it just fucking kills her. I love it so much.
- 18:38Yeah. Also, I think that they get the
- 18:40dinner scene right this time. They actually make a dinner
- 18:43scene that I enjoy, and that is really one of the things I hate
- 18:46the most about this franchise. But they did good, I think this
- 18:49time. Yeah, cuz it didn't.
- 18:51It didn't play out the same way it normally does.
- 18:53Yeah, I think I just like the chaos more.
- 18:56And I feel like it was also kind of poking fun at the chaos in
- 18:59the original movies, like that scene where Matthew McConaughey
- 19:02is just yelling in her face and then leather face just kind of
- 19:05like does the high pitched scream and it kind of feels
- 19:07forced. And then Darla's like, no, stop
- 19:10it and just stops. It's so weird, man.
- 19:13I I don't know, I just like this movie.
- 19:16OK, so and I'm going to have, I'm going to end up having some
- 19:20overall hot takes and I'm not worried about saying this now
- 19:23because we will discover at the end with our wrap up and
- 19:26rankings and everything that our rankings are never what we think
- 19:29they're going to be. So right now I'm going to say
- 19:31this is my second favorite Texas Chainsaw.
- 19:33Same. Yeah, and my third favorites,
- 19:35the whatever the fucking. I can't ever remember which one
- 19:38it is but where she goes do your thing cuz.
- 19:40Just say the bare minimum for what this franchise is and you
- 19:44will get it right. Can you guess that?
- 19:49What did you just call it? Do you think as?
- 19:52No, before that, the franchise. What do you call the franchise?
- 19:55Text chancer. That's the name of the movie.
- 19:57See, This is why we have to do the naming.
- 20:01It's just why we do so easy, like I can't remember the most
- 20:04basic name. It's not my fault that this
- 20:08franchise is terribly named throughout.
- 20:10It's not my fault. You need to learn man.
- 20:13Everybody else is. A.
- 20:14You need to be putting together this like timeline or list or
- 20:17whatever with all of our bonus names.
- 20:20All right. That's what you need to be.
- 20:22I do need to start getting that put together, you're right.
- 20:24OK, anyway, I love this movie because it's just so over the
- 20:29top. It's nonsense.
- 20:32We have a secret society. It's kind of like what's the
- 20:36movie Martyrs, where they're like trying to find God, but
- 20:39instead this is supposed to be like a divine experience that
- 20:42you're so terrorized. This movie is on the verge of
- 20:45being our ass. Yes, it's it's if Martyrs was
- 20:51smutty. Texas chainsaw.
- 20:52Yeah, like. Instead of what is that,
- 20:55England? Where the fuck does that movie
- 20:57take place? France.
- 20:58It is new French extremism, so. Yeah, France.
- 21:01So instead of France, Texas. Yeah, yeah, Paris, TX maybe.
- 21:06Maybe. Could be.
- 21:08So yeah, anyway, I just think reiterating everything you said,
- 21:12the performances are great. It limits down the dinner scene.
- 21:17It finds like the things that are both frightening and also
- 21:21kind of silly about this franchise and just nails them
- 21:25home. And I can't believe that it has
- 21:26as low rating as it does because I think it's so much fucking
- 21:30fun. You know, and I wonder, like,
- 21:32we've watched the theatrical cut, and I like that one too.
- 21:35But I think that because we've had the Blu-ray for a while now,
- 21:38for the past few years, we've been watching the director's
- 21:40cut, and I feel like that does add a lot.
- 21:43Too, Yes. The director's cut version that
- 21:45we have, like you can tell when you're getting the additional
- 21:47scenes because it switches from Blu-ray to like standard
- 21:51definition because they're having to use like the DVD scan.
- 21:53Yeah. But yeah, I think, you know,
- 21:56like I looked it up and there's I think like 8 or 7 minutes of
- 22:02additional content added. Well, let me see.
- 22:05It's right here. 7 minutes and three seconds worth of
- 22:10additional stuff. And there's one alternate scene,
- 22:13so. OK.
- 22:15Yeah, I think that that could really be a big difference right
- 22:18there, because it sounds like they butchered this movie so
- 22:22much compared to how they originally wanted it that they
- 22:25sued him. Was what you were saying right?
- 22:28Well, they no, they felt like they were withholding it.
- 22:31OK. But it's kind of the the stay
- 22:34alive syndrome where it gets cut down so much that it just
- 22:39becomes a worse movie. Yeah, yeah.
- 22:42I'm glad that we got that version.
- 22:44If you can do the directors cut, I'd recommend it.
- 22:47It's. Yeah, absolutely, absolutely.
- 22:49So yeah, I just all around, I think it's just such a fun
- 22:52movie. It is chaotic, but in all of the
- 22:56right ways. It's the most interesting one,
- 22:58yeah, like aside from the original, because the original
- 23:01is just a classic, so it's really hard to be.
- 23:03But it's just so strange for even for this franchise.
- 23:08And and like, obviously they go on to become mega stars, but the
- 23:13star power in this like their, their acting ability is just
- 23:16incredible. They carry it, really, and it's
- 23:19good to have those two as the weeds.
- 23:21Yeah, I don't know if this movie would be as successful if we
- 23:23didn't have those two leads doing it with their whole chest.
- 23:27You know, really, it really does, like hinge entirely on
- 23:30that. It would fall apart if you had
- 23:32not the right actor for this. Yeah.
- 23:35All right, so some bad stuff. Yes.
- 23:38The only thing that I don't really care for is the fact it
- 23:41it's almost like a quasi remake of the first one.
- 23:44I wish that they could break free from the mold of the first
- 23:48one. Every movie feels like they have
- 23:50to rehash all of the points of that.
- 23:52One, yeah, I feel. Like you got enough of like a
- 23:54sandbox here with the characters, the setting.
- 23:57You can really switch it up a little bit.
- 23:59The second one did that a little bit.
- 24:00Like they actually go to new locations.
- 24:03They have like the whole radio broadcast center and the big
- 24:06city amusement Park Place or whatever.
- 24:09We understand why they're killing people because they're
- 24:11using it for their business. Like it it, it adds to the
- 24:14story. It makes things make sense.
- 24:16But then but they still hit the beats in that one too, where
- 24:19they do like the dinner scene and like, you know, I you don't
- 24:22need that stuff you like, just take the characters and run with
- 24:25it and have some fun with it. Yeah, and that's the thing too,
- 24:28is that with it, it doesn't make as much sense because Texas
- 24:32Chainsaw Massacre, why are they keeping just the one person
- 24:35alive and bringing them to dinner like I.
- 24:38It makes sense in this movie. I think they actually like.
- 24:41Explain. It in this movie because she's
- 24:43yeah, they're trying to scare her to like a divine like
- 24:46spiritual place. Yeah, I also like how this one
- 24:49had Kim Hinkle because I mean that's the person that Co made
- 24:52the original movie with Sobe Hooper so.
- 24:55Apparently he really didn't want to direct it.
- 24:57But Robert, he said he's, he was like, not to mince words, but he
- 25:01believed me into doing it. He didn't feel comfortable
- 25:03shooting all of the action scenes, really.
- 25:05Robert Kuhn really thought he was the one that needed to be be
- 25:08directing it, because he is. It's his.
- 25:12It's his. Project.
- 25:13Yeah, you know, him and Toby Hooper, like, that's their baby.
- 25:16It's really cool having the original people involved
- 25:19because, you know, that means that you're actually getting
- 25:21like, an authentic tone from what they were going for, you
- 25:24know what I mean? Like, it's cool.
- 25:25I like it but OK. What's your bad?
- 25:29I guess, yeah, I was going to say kind of retreading the same
- 25:32things, but for me, it actually kind of gave me vibes of the
- 25:35third one where we have this random car crash that doesn't
- 25:38really make sense, and it's just kind of there as a plot
- 25:42contrivance to get the, you know, the people involved.
- 25:47Yeah. Let's mix it up.
- 25:48Let's find a different way. Yeah, it really This movie is
- 25:51almost like a melting of the three previous movies.
- 25:54Yeah, it feels. Yeah, it just like I get it, you
- 25:59have to, you have to yes, hand to yourself.
- 26:01But they're like, yes, handing in reverse, which it just you
- 26:08need to make the story compelling.
- 26:09We need to care about this wreck that's happening.
- 26:11They could have just ran into a tree because they were all
- 26:14arguing, and that's just as fun. You know, why do we have this
- 26:17random car that they hit and this kid passes out?
- 26:21You know, they almost kind of make a meta joke on this with
- 26:25Vilmer, whenever he picks up Jenny and he shows the bodies in
- 26:30the back of the truck, he's like, yeah, you got to, like,
- 26:32add like, a few extra things in there just to make them know
- 26:35that this isn't Saturday morning cartoons.
- 26:38I guess, but yeah. It's just like for the body
- 26:42count, I think it's just like Kanan.
- 26:45Fodder. Yeah.
- 26:46OK, Ugly. Ugly the whole opening and I
- 26:51think that this is a director's cut edition because it starts in
- 26:54the standard definition and I didn't remember that whenever
- 26:58like I. Remember, yeah, the first time
- 27:00we watched this we were like what the fuck?
- 27:02Was the step dad a creepy rapist before?
- 27:05So for those that didn't watch the director's cut, or I could
- 27:08be remembering it wrong and this is included in the theatrical,
- 27:12but I don't think it is, but it starts with Jenny's dad trying
- 27:15to rape her and it's really fucking weird.
- 27:17Like right before she just go into prom and it's so no fucking
- 27:20strange and upsetting and the mom is powerless in the
- 27:22situation and. Also kind of looks like Peggy
- 27:25Hill looks. Like Peggy Hill, I mean, Texas,
- 27:27Yeah, you know, so it tracks. But still, it's just a very
- 27:31uncomfortable situation and it puts you there right out the
- 27:37gate. In this movie puts you there in
- 27:39a way you really don't want to be.
- 27:40Yeah, yeah, All right. What's your ugly?
- 27:43Yeah, I was going to say the same thing.
- 27:45It it is just, it's really sad. And it's really sad seeing
- 27:49Jenny's character. You know, they talk about how
- 27:51she keeps herself all covered up because her mom's getting
- 27:53married every 15 minutes. And the dads are always creepy
- 27:58like that to her. And that's so, so upsetting and
- 28:02so unfortunate that she's going through that and that her mom
- 28:05feels like that she has to be getting into these relationships
- 28:09just to be able to provide. Yeah, it's just man, you you
- 28:14feel bad for her also also the. Way Darla managed to get
- 28:19involved and gaslit into all of this.
- 28:21I mean, I'm not saying she's a good person because she's
- 28:23definitely not. She's fully drank the Kool-aid,
- 28:26but the way she. We don't know the extent, but
- 28:28she's coerced into it from what we know or what we can gather I
- 28:32guess. She is every bit as paranoid as
- 28:36Vilmer and she actually fully believes that there is a chip in
- 28:39her head that will be like exploded or whatever.
- 28:41She she doesn't go along with this, I think.
- 28:43That there is. Yeah, I mean, it could like.
- 28:46And that's The thing is that you hear him talking about these
- 28:49like secret societies and stuff, and you're like, OK, Wilmer.
- 28:51And then the guy shows up with like the belly rings and the
- 28:55scarification and you're like, oh, OK.
- 29:00You know, they're upfront about it.
- 29:02Yeah. And that's The thing is that
- 29:04like, you know, sometimes like people will just like write off
- 29:10people who maybe have like some sort of mental illness and
- 29:14they'll be like, oh, well, it's just like, you know, side effect
- 29:16of your health condition. And it's like, but sometimes the
- 29:21paranoid delusions are not actually paranoid delusions.
- 29:23They're actually like, this is the thing they're experiencing.
- 29:26And maybe you should at least take the time here I'm out, and
- 29:29maybe see if there's any evidence for what they're
- 29:31saying. Yeah, yeah.
- 29:34OK, absurd. Go for it, baby.
- 29:38All right, so First off, I'm going to just talk about WE, who
- 29:44is a walking historical quote machine.
- 29:47He he's a fun character. I like I like this.
- 29:50That's different. Yeah, like because any other
- 29:54Texas chances of movie, this is going to be the hitchhiker and
- 29:57he's just going to be like weird.
- 29:58He's just going to be weird. He's going to be like with this
- 30:01camera and doing shit, but this is a guy with a shotgun and he's
- 30:03just aggressively quoting history at you and.
- 30:06The way I kept writing in my notes is he threatens Barry with
- 30:09Ulysses S Grant. He threatens Jenny with Ralph
- 30:13Waldo Emerson. Do it.
- 30:15And he fucking does a good job with it too.
- 30:18It's, you know, it works. Also, how the fuck does he?
- 30:22He also quotes Shakespeare, but he calls him.
- 30:24Billy Billy Shakespeare. I also I love the variety of
- 30:27people he quotes cuz you got Ulysses S Grant, then Ralph Aldo
- 30:31Emerson, then we got some Nikolai Machiavelli.
- 30:34Like you know what? We are all over the spectrum of
- 30:36people. I'm gonna say always relevant.
- 30:39Yeah. Like, he's got a quote for the
- 30:41exact moment all the time. Like, that's the one thing.
- 30:43Like, you want him. Like if you live with him, you
- 30:46want him to make the wrong one. That way you can say, all right,
- 30:48that's enough. That doesn't make any sense.
- 30:50But if he keeps coming up with points, they're like, you know
- 30:52what? That actually tracks.
- 30:53You can't ever tell him to stop. Nobody's ever had a chance to
- 30:55tell him to stop. Not because he's always right.
- 30:57Cuz he's like, I'm sorry, was that not relevant to the
- 30:59conversation? I feel like maybe it was.
- 31:01You're gonna argue with Shakespeare?
- 31:03You can't. You can't argue with Billy.
- 31:05I mean, people really did try to argue with Shakespeare.
- 31:08Well, they lost that game a long, long time ago.
- 31:12All right, so we have the FBI spot point, which is so fucking
- 31:17weird. That's just such a weird thing
- 31:18to throw into a Texas Chainsaw movie.
- 31:22Isn't FBI. I think it's FBI.
- 31:23It's some kind of agents. It's government.
- 31:25I think they're like, I wouldn't say FBI because the dude's
- 31:28riding in a limo. The FBI is not shelling out limo
- 31:31money. Dude, come on, they're not.
- 31:34You don't think so? Dude, it's the fucking no
- 31:37federal. Government.
- 31:39No. All the more reason.
- 31:41All the more reason. The whole scene with her tying
- 31:44up Jenny, putting her in the trunk of her car and then gonna
- 31:46go get pizza. Yeah.
- 31:48And like really gonna like show the guy that's at the drive
- 31:52through window like, hey, you actually wanna go see?
- 31:53Her, I think she would have legitimately showed her.
- 31:56I think she showed up. She might have thrown him in
- 31:58there too. Maybe.
- 31:59She is a strange fucking character.
- 32:01She's also if you go in there and you throw a rock through her
- 32:04window, she'll show your hair tits like.
- 32:06That's a reaction. Yeah, I well, she doesn't give a
- 32:09shit because she just makes WE come in there and replace the
- 32:12window for every single time. The ending to this movie is just
- 32:15so fucking wild, too. Like you get the old couple in
- 32:19the RV driving up and then you get a fucking plane that just
- 32:21comes down and Nicks Vilmer in the head.
- 32:24It's so fucking wack. And to top it all off, we get an
- 32:28all right, all right, all right, We do, which is amazing.
- 32:31That makes this the true Matthew McConaughey experience.
- 32:35I don't really have much to add from what you said with
- 32:39everything because all of that is absolutely 100% absurd.
- 32:44I do want to know what was up with the suit with his body mods
- 32:49underneath and why it was part of what he needed to show 'cause
- 32:53he just like starts unbuttoning his shirt and we're like what?
- 32:56What's happening, buddy? It gets strange.
- 32:58Yeah, I'm surprised you're not going to mention this, but the
- 33:01whole thing with Jenny where her corsage keeps bouncing back and
- 33:06forth on her. Dude it that should be the
- 33:09easiest thing to be able to keep track of.
- 33:12I understand there's a lot of continuity things that are easy
- 33:15to miss, but where the corsage goes should always be.
- 33:19It just switches sides throughout the movie.
- 33:20It's so funny. You notice it the most in the
- 33:23woods though. Yeah.
- 33:24All right, so time to rate. I think I'll give this one.
- 33:31I'm going to give it 825. I'm gonna give it a nine.
- 33:35Nine. Wow.
- 33:36OK. I told you it is my second
- 33:38favorite. Yeah, it's a really fun one,
- 33:40man. I would say I this one probably
- 33:44is my second favorite also. 8.6258. 6/2.
- 33:48Five, I think if I did that math right, I did it in my head, so.
- 33:51Well, I can't tell you you're wrong because I don't know.
- 33:54I can't do that kind of math. You're only an accountant.
- 33:56Yeah. OK, I think we're ready to talk
- 33:59about it. All right, let's do it.
- 34:01We open up with a long ass quote on the screen.
- 34:03I just took a picture of it because I'm efficient.
- 34:05August 18th, 1973 News of a bizarre chain wielding family
- 34:10reports which were to ignite the world's imagination began to
- 34:14filter out of Central Texas. Regrettably, not one of the
- 34:17family members was ever apprehended, and for more than
- 34:2010 years nothing further was heard.
- 34:22Then over the next several years, at least 2 minor, yet
- 34:25apparently related incidents were reported.
- 34:28Then again, nothing. 5 long years.
- 34:31Silence dot dot dot. Isn't it weird that every single
- 34:35movie chooses to ignore the previous movie?
- 34:38Yeah. Like it's always a different
- 34:40story about how the events of the first one unfolded.
- 34:43The last one, one person was caught.
- 34:47Yeah, remember, yeah, cuz it was no, yes.
- 34:50Yeah, it was. And they thought it was
- 34:53Weatherface and they just gassed them.
- 34:54Yeah, it's there's no continuity in this franchise.
- 34:59No, there absolutely isn't. Like we have Leatherface and
- 35:02maybe it's a different Leatherface every time.
- 35:04We don't really know. Sometimes he lives with the
- 35:07family, sometimes he's in a foster home.
- 35:09He's got different names in so many movies.
- 35:11I don't even think he has like a like a government name in this
- 35:14one. They just call him Leatherface.
- 35:15Sometimes they call him Leather. Well, that's a good nickname
- 35:18that's just short. It's like I have to call you
- 35:19Jess instead of Jesse. I'm just saying, yeah, as I
- 35:24always consider Bubba when they call him that, that's.
- 35:26Bubba name? Oh man, I fucking love Bubba.
- 35:28Bubba is my favorite name for him.
- 35:30OK, anyway, it's the return of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
- 35:36So we see a girl getting dressed, doing her makeup while
- 35:38the news is playing in the background.
- 35:41I don't know, I guess it's good to be informed, but I prefer
- 35:45pregame jams. Yeah, You know, people have
- 35:49their own ways of getting ready for dances, I guess.
- 35:52And the dad stumbles in, he's drunk.
- 35:56He pushes himself up on her. Yeah, he had just been fighting
- 35:58with her mom, and he's just being really gross.
- 36:02And she pushes him off and he's like, hey, you don't want me to
- 36:05leave you and your mom penniless and on the street, do you?
- 36:08Like. What a fucking.
- 36:10Dirtbag. Yeah, but Shawn's there, so he
- 36:12he picks her up for the dance, they take a couple of pictures
- 36:15and they get the fuck away. So there's AI love this cause at
- 36:21the dance it's the prom in their high school gym one of the
- 36:25teachers is outside like making awkward jokes with the students.
- 36:29Like openly drinking. Openly drinking so drunk.
- 36:33Like a pint of liquor right there.
- 36:34And he's pissed that he's like chaperoning.
- 36:36And I thought it was just like a funny little bit.
- 36:39Barry is not there. And I guess Miss Abbott is being
- 36:42a little shit stir. And she's like, oh really?
- 36:44You're still with Barry and Jeanette's like, Jeanette is
- 36:48twitchy. Jeanette's on something.
- 36:51Jeanette's weird. I don't know what her deal is,
- 36:53but she's trying to. Like she's trying to get a
- 36:56sentence out, but she can't fucking get it out.
- 36:58She's so she's fucking twitchy and.
- 37:00It's just like, really, She It just culminates in her calling
- 37:03the teacher a bitch. Yeah, she's just a bitch.
- 37:06So Heather ends up finding Barry, making out with some
- 37:09other random person. He's like we just kissed once,
- 37:11just a little. Bit.
- 37:12That's one really long kiss with tongues I.
- 37:15This guy fucking sucks but he's so funny.
- 37:17He is and he he really is. Like that point of where they're
- 37:20talking about doing caricatures of American.
- 37:23Yeah, he really is. It's so fucking funny.
- 37:25So she storms off. She gets in her car and peels
- 37:28out. No, she gets in his car because
- 37:29he's pissed because he's like, my dad will be furious if
- 37:32anything happens to this car. It's my ass on the line.
- 37:34That's right. So she peels out.
- 37:35He manages to hop in the passenger seat real quick as
- 37:38she's driving away and they're now driving off.
- 37:41And Jenny and Shawn are in the back seat, and it's implied that
- 37:44maybe they were making out, but Barry is like, we all know
- 37:47Shawn's a pothead. And you guys are just out here
- 37:49getting high. Yeah.
- 37:52They also get into a Fender Bender here.
- 37:55It's a hit and run actually. Because yeah, just.
- 37:57Fucking peels off after hitting that person.
- 37:59This is like where we get some banter here.
- 38:02Basically they're Barry's pissed and then he's like he's arguing
- 38:08with Heather. He's like, you know what?
- 38:09I wouldn't be kissing her if she sexes me more.
- 38:11He's like, you know, if you like, I need it because I could
- 38:13get prostate cancer. And Jenny calls, and now he
- 38:18said. That's not real, by the way.
- 38:20Yeah, and she, I like how she doesn't even acknowledge Barry.
- 38:23Like she's not even dealing with that.
- 38:24She's just talking to Heather. She was like, he's full of shit,
- 38:27Don't listen to him. He's.
- 38:28Half right ejaculations do help with your prostate and prevent
- 38:33prostate cancer, but it doesn't have to be through sex.
- 38:36You can. You can cure yourself, buddy.
- 38:38Just take like extra 5 minutes in the shower.
- 38:40Just love yourself man, love yourself.
- 38:44And then Heather goes to a real dark place.
- 38:46She goes. Wouldn't it be really cool if we
- 38:48wrecked and like a band wrote a song about it?
- 38:51I fucking love that. Yeah.
- 38:53She's like, Oh my God. It would be like, wouldn't it be
- 38:55awesome if we just, like, wrecked and died right now?
- 38:57They could write a song and. Then between this and her name
- 39:00being Heather, pardon me was like maybe we should watch
- 39:02Heather after this. Oh my God, man.
- 39:05So they also like Barry's own tearing down Jenny because he
- 39:10just had his whole lie torn apart, and then he's talking
- 39:14about her body and he's like, you don't even have tits.
- 39:16And then they're like, Barry's like, what?
- 39:18Girls have tits? So it's like one of my favorite
- 39:21lines. Like it's just so matter of
- 39:22fact. Like you have girls have tits.
- 39:25So they end up getting into another wreck, this one a little
- 39:30bit harder to drive away from, and the other driver gets out
- 39:33and he's very much a me. Like my 2 reactions when I'm
- 39:38hurt are either to just like no talking, no words or nothing or
- 39:43I'm OK, I'm OK, OK OK. That's what this guy does.
- 39:48He's like OK, I'm OK, I'm good, I'm OK.
- 39:50And then he passes the fuck out. He just falls down.
- 39:54So they're like, OK, fuck this guy, we need to get help.
- 39:59So Heather, just like, all right, I'm going to go.
- 40:02And then Barry and Jenny tag along.
- 40:04No, Jenny says she's going to go look for somebody and she's
- 40:07like, anybody feel free to come with me.
- 40:09So Heather and Barry follow along and Sean stays with the
- 40:12guy. OK, yes.
- 40:14And they are walking around, they find this building, don't
- 40:18exactly know what this place. And I will say the whole time
- 40:22that they're doing this, Heather's talking about, she
- 40:25feels like somebody is out there.
- 40:26She's like, I just feel like somebody is watching us.
- 40:29Probably is. It's probably a Villemer.
- 40:31And they got a Maglite that apparently needs new batteries,
- 40:34which is really unfortunate. Maglites are one of the most
- 40:37useful things to have in your trunk.
- 40:39So they arrived at the building. For some reason I have it.
- 40:43It's never confirmed but for some reason I have it in my head
- 40:46that she's like, it's a real estate office.
- 40:48It kind of has that vibe to. It yeah, and I think it's
- 40:50partially also like her matching suit, skirt suit.
- 40:54Yeah, she got that suit with the shoulder pads.
- 40:55Yeah, Yeah, Real fancy, like, yeah.
- 40:57So this space, this is basically the gas station for this movie.
- 41:03So they arrived there and they asked her to call the cops.
- 41:07She doesn't. She calls the Vilmer instead and
- 41:10tells Vilmer that they wreck like about a mile away from
- 41:13where they are now. So.
- 41:15Then I made a super funny note joke in my notes where the kids
- 41:21drive by and they bust the window cuz she flashes.
- 41:25Oh yeah, yeah. Oh, bust the window.
- 41:27Yeah, cuz. She just like shows her.
- 41:29Boobies out. Yeah.
- 41:30Yeah. And Velmer arrives at the side
- 41:32of the wreck, and he tells Sean that the other driver's dead.
- 41:36And Sean's like, no, he's not. He just passed out.
- 41:37He goes, Dad's dead, and then he breaks his neck and he goes
- 41:41definitely dead. So he starts chasing after Sean.
- 41:45I like how whenever he's getting into chase mode, he, like, flips
- 41:48on some rock music. Yeah, the soundtrack in this
- 41:50movie is pretty crazy. It's awesome.
- 41:52Actually, I I love the soundtrack.
- 41:54It's a grunge, man. Like man, if I was a
- 41:56psychopathic murderer chasing somebody in a truck, this is
- 41:58probably the type of music I'd blast.
- 42:00It's. Good tunes for Yeah I agree.
- 42:03He manages to run down Sean and just keeps running him over,
- 42:07over and over again in his truck.
- 42:09So Darla tells the other three to go ahead and walk back.
- 42:13Sorry, she can't give him a ride, but Vilmer won't give him
- 42:15a ride. And don't worry about him too
- 42:17much. She's like, I don't.
- 42:19It's fun. It'll be fun.
- 42:21They're walking, there's a car that is going down the road and
- 42:25ends up turning down another road, and Barry and Heather
- 42:28decide that they're going to go follow it, while Jenny's going
- 42:31to stay on the path and get back to Sean.
- 42:33Yeah, and this is where her flower like just keeps switching
- 42:36sides and I'm like how how many takes did you do in this on
- 42:40different days that you couldn't get the corsage to stay on the
- 42:43correct side? I it really is weird, but it
- 42:47kind of like it's interesting because it shows you that these
- 42:50movies aren't made like all at once like that.
- 42:53They like do this over like several days, several different
- 42:55takes. It's kind of cool.
- 42:58All right, so Barry and Heather, they make it to the house.
- 43:01Yeah, and this is where Heather's like saying that like,
- 43:02I'm not stupid. I'm more just a bitch and I'm
- 43:06only with you for your money. And kind of like how my mom is,
- 43:09I'm just actually turning into her.
- 43:12And then she, this is where she's talking about like, and
- 43:13Jenny is not what you think she is either.
- 43:15Like she's got all of these home life problems and she's actually
- 43:19got a banging body. I've seen it like trust they
- 43:23find the house and their plan is that they're going to like pay
- 43:27for a ride and she's like we'll say that we'll pay him $50.00
- 43:30but we only have 5 with us now and that we'll give him the rest
- 43:33when they get us home. And then we just won't.
- 43:35He was like that's kind of messed up Heather.
- 43:37And she goes what? My dad does it all the time.
- 43:39I I believe it. Yeah.
- 43:41All right, so while this is happening, Jenny's made it back
- 43:45to where they wrecked that. Except there's no car, there's
- 43:47no Shawn, there's no body there. There's just a rim left.
- 43:51So she's left wondering what the fuck happened.
- 43:54So Heather and Barry knock on the front door, and they're not
- 43:57getting an answer. And Barry's like, well, I'm
- 43:59going to go check around back. And Heather's like, OK, I'm
- 44:01going to wait out front. She sits on the porch swing, and
- 44:04Leatherface comes up behind her, and it's sniffing her hair.
- 44:06And she like, she keeps swatting it away.
- 44:08She thinks like it's a bug or something.
- 44:09Which if it was me and I kept feeling that, I wouldn't be able
- 44:12to not turn my head around. Yeah, Barry is threatened with
- 44:18Ulysses S Grant quotes here. And yeah, combination leather
- 44:23base takes Heather inside and puts her in the freezer.
- 44:25And I like that the freezer door isn't staying latched the way it
- 44:28usually does. And she keeps.
- 44:29Popping out and he. Has to put like a keg on it
- 44:32basically. I don't even know what that is.
- 44:34It's like a fucking piece from an airplane or something.
- 44:36It looks like a distiller. OK, I I don't.
- 44:39Know what it is? I bet the moon, Sean.
- 44:41They probably do. They probably do.
- 44:43Yeah, yeah. So that happens, Barry gets led
- 44:47to the front door, but instead of allowing Mr. WE and he just
- 44:52gets in the door and locks him out.
- 44:53Yeah, well, first he's threatened by Machiavelli, and
- 44:55Barry's like, you know what Machiavelli would do?
- 44:57Lock you out. I like this.
- 45:00This is funny because Barry goes in there and he's like Heather
- 45:03Heather and he like goes and finds the bathroom.
- 45:05There's like fucking bodies in a weird fucking like the typical
- 45:08Leatherface decor in the house. Yeah, like he goes.
- 45:13There's a hook on the back of the bathroom door and instead of
- 45:15a robe, as you would expect, it's just skin.
- 45:18It's. Skin, it's a skin robe, but he
- 45:20like goes over and he gets to the toilet and he starts peeing.
- 45:23He's like, yeah, so like there's a guy out there that had a
- 45:26shotgun to me. I just walked him out.
- 45:28It's like, it's like he came home from work and is talking
- 45:31about his day with Heather in the stranger's home with body
- 45:35shit all over the place. It's so fucking weird.
- 45:37It would have looked like if they hadn't died, and this might
- 45:39be. They should have been recruited
- 45:41really. They had like the perfect people
- 45:42to like add on to the family here.
- 45:45So after he's done peeing, he turns around and finally sees
- 45:50the body he apparently didn't smell before in the tub, freaks
- 45:55out, then he sees the skin robe, and then he runs out and finds
- 45:59Leatherface. And he is cute.
- 46:02Yep, gets Sledge tammered right to the face.
- 46:04And Leatherface says, you know what, enough of this shit, and
- 46:07puts Heather on the meat hook. So Jenny manages to flag down a
- 46:11vehicle with flashing lights. Oh, it's a tow truck with
- 46:14Wilmer. And he was like, he's very
- 46:17immediately inhospitable and hostile.
- 46:20And he's like, get in. And she was like, where's Sean?
- 46:23He's like, I'll tell you if you get in.
- 46:26And he's like creeping her out the whole time, which, yes.
- 46:30I mean, you don't want to hear when you get in the stranger
- 46:32truck. Yeah, you don't want to get in
- 46:34too many stranger trucks these days.
- 46:36There's a lot of psychos out there.
- 46:38I remember I had a flat on the side of the road and this man
- 46:42stopped to help and he's like, I'll give you a ride to the
- 46:44Walmart down the street. You can get a new tire.
- 46:46And I was like, thank you, but no, thank you.
- 46:48And he was like, I've got a daughter your age.
- 46:50I would want her to say the same thing.
- 46:52And like, in my head, because he ended up just being a very
- 46:54helpful person, didn't do anything.
- 46:56But in my head, I was like, man, if I was trying to disarm
- 46:59somebody and get them to come into my car, that's how I'd
- 47:01react to them. Say no, thank you the first
- 47:03time. That's.
- 47:03True, you never, never buy any of it.
- 47:08Yeah, I was like, just chill here.
- 47:12All right, so yeah, she manages to get creeped out to the point
- 47:17to just tumbling out the side of the truck.
- 47:19Yeah, well. She gets creeped out to that
- 47:22point because he tells her to look out the back window and
- 47:24then he kind of forces her head to look and that's where she
- 47:26sees Sean's body dangling next to the other driver and then
- 47:29that's when she does a tuck and roll.
- 47:31Yep. So she goes running.
- 47:32He chases after her in the truck.
- 47:33And she gets with his psycho tape chasing music.
- 47:37Yep, she gets in between a bunch of trees and he can't get to her
- 47:40and he's like, all right, you win and drives off.
- 47:42But then she gets chased by Leatherface and that ends up
- 47:46leading her to run to the house up the stairs.
- 47:48This is the scene by the way, as a kid that I was hungry for more
- 47:53of these movies and ever I saw it on TV one day and I was like
- 47:57cool, I'll finally get to watch another.
- 47:59It had been a long time. I first watched the second one
- 48:02whenever I was like a little kid and then seeing this, I think
- 48:05that's one of the reasons why I love this movie too, because
- 48:07this chase scene is so fucking good.
- 48:09Like he just like comes up there with a chainsaw all the way into
- 48:11the house. It's basically the first movie
- 48:13again. Yeah, and she is in that
- 48:15bedroom. She finds a taxidermy cop, takes
- 48:17his gun, but unfortunately the gun is not loaded so she has to
- 48:22jump through a window. Well, and this time I like that
- 48:24they do it a little bit different.
- 48:26They actually climb the roof and Leatherface actually goes to the
- 48:28window too and climbs the roof with her.
- 48:30Yes, and what I said last night was that it's very much giving
- 48:34Halloween for that's. What I was thinking too, I mean
- 48:38this like the I mean basically had the same title as that one.
- 48:42Yeah, the 4th movie in franchises always fucking kicks
- 48:46ass. Yeah, this one Halloween Friday,
- 48:4913th saw I'm on Elm Street. Fucking all kick.
- 48:55Hot hot take. Final destination.
- 48:58Final Destination 4 is good. Yeah, I will die on that hill.
- 49:01I will die on it, you heard. You heard, I like to see how
- 49:06he's like, they like go over to the other side of the roof.
- 49:08He chainsaws like a part of the chimney off.
- 49:11And then she climbs onto an antenna and it's like a last
- 49:15ditch effort, but she sees a wire and she hops to it as he
- 49:18chainsaws the antenna down. So she climbs over to a tree,
- 49:21but manages to just like, fall through some kind of add on that
- 49:25they're planning for the house, I guess because it's under
- 49:27construction. It makes me think of that house
- 49:29down the street from us where they were trying to build that
- 49:31home gym in their backyard for so long.
- 49:33Yeah, you're right. Yeah, Yep.
- 49:35So she they did get it done if anybody was curious.
- 49:39And she recovers, and she's starting to walk away, but
- 49:42Weatherface bursts through one of the walls that is in progress
- 49:46there and continues to chase. She ends up running into the
- 49:49same business where she was at before.
- 49:51And so Darla called WE and says that she needs to come, that he
- 49:57needs to come fix this. And when he gets there, she
- 49:59goes, where's the gunny sack? And he goes, well, I got this
- 50:02and there's a trash bag. And so Jenny starts trying to
- 50:04fight, but he ends up getting getting her and taunts her with
- 50:07Ralph Waldo Emerson. Yeah, instead of the broom, he's
- 50:10got like an actual stun. Yeah, this.
- 50:13Time. Like a prodder, I assume it's a
- 50:15cattle prod. Yeah.
- 50:17And she WE puts her in Darla's trunk and Darla as she's walking
- 50:23out. I just love this because this is
- 50:25so 1994 Hertz. But she to turn off her lights.
- 50:29Yep. Yep.
- 50:31All right. So she's like, hey, I'm hungry.
- 50:33I'm gonna go pick up some pizza on the way home.
- 50:35Yeah, she's like, tell a Villemer I'm bringing food.
- 50:37Yeah, All right, so she goes and gets pizza.
- 50:41We're at the pizza drive through right now.
- 50:44There's a dude there and he can hear the screaming in the back
- 50:47of the trunk. And he's like, what is that?
- 50:49And she's like, you want me to show you?
- 50:50And he's like, sure. She even says that loud.
- 50:53She's like, I got a body bag there.
- 50:54Yeah, man, she is so this place so fucking weird.
- 51:00But I mean, would you believe it if somebody said that to you?
- 51:03If I heard screaming, yeah, probably.
- 51:05Honestly, I'm not going to be that dumb to be like, I don't
- 51:07know, man. Here's the.
- 51:08Thing so she gets so and she goes around back and she tells
- 51:12Jenny that she needs to be quiet.
- 51:15So nothing bad happens to her and she goes well can you at
- 51:17least poke a hole in the back so I can breathe?
- 51:19She goes if I poke a hole will you be quiet?
- 51:21And she says yes. So she's poke in the hole and
- 51:23that's when a cop comes up from behind.
- 51:25The thing that sells this hole scene to me is the fact that we
- 51:27have like these kids that are getting ice cream or whatever
- 51:31from like a baseball game that they were just saying yes.
- 51:33And it's like just out there. And Jenny is just like she can
- 51:36hear all the ambience out there. She knows that there are people
- 51:38around, but she's having such a civil conversation with Darla.
- 51:42It's so fucking weird. And then the cop is like, OK,
- 51:46I'm going to go get her because she's got her trunk open.
- 51:48We're trying to get her coffee at a pizza place because that's
- 51:51where you want to get your coffee from.
- 51:52Yeah, that's where you get real quality coffee, obviously.
- 51:55So he walks over there as she's closing the trunk.
- 51:58He's like, I think he's trying to hit on her.
- 52:01And she's like, he's like, can I see what's in the trunk?
- 52:04And she goes, no, she just drives off and the cops like.
- 52:10I'm OK. I still need my coffee.
- 52:12So yeah, Heather is crawling through the road.
- 52:15She somehow managed to unhook. Herself and.
- 52:17She is out in the middle of the road and Darla stops the car and
- 52:22go check on her and she's like, OK here, I'll help you, give me
- 52:26a second. She walks over and tests some
- 52:28sticks. She she's seen sleep away camp
- 52:31too. Yes, she's like, I know how
- 52:33effective. This is how you can push
- 52:34somebody into a porta potty filled with Peaches.
- 52:38Yeah, exactly. You take a stick, you bonk.
- 52:41Yeah. And she goes her ring.
- 52:42It's the most delicate bonks ever.
- 52:44It's like a massage, really. It's honestly, it's such a, it's
- 52:47such a dainty stick. I don't it's not a good quality
- 52:50bonking stick. It's hollow.
- 52:51Yeah. Yeah, it's not.
- 52:52It's not effective. She is one of the like tree
- 52:55branches from our yard that fell in the last storm.
- 52:58Those, those would be good bonking.
- 53:00Sticks and it's a good bonking yeah, yeah.
- 53:02And then she's just like oh, fuck it.
- 53:04And she's like, I'll just tell WE.
- 53:06So she just like gets in the car and drives off and leaves her in
- 53:08the road. So back at the house, Vilmer is
- 53:10very paranoid that the FBI is watching and listening to them.
- 53:14And then with WE, he brings Heather in.
- 53:16He look full on Dracula's her and then tases Jenny.
- 53:22So Darla is telling Jenny that Vilmer, he's basically the
- 53:26Illuminati. This is how I put it in my nose.
- 53:29Like he's part of the secret society, but he can't really
- 53:31talk about it because it's so secret.
- 53:33But like, they're all out there and they're controlling things
- 53:36and they're trying to scare people because it's part of
- 53:37their secret mission. Yeah, he's he's got a job like
- 53:40in she's not buying it. But I love how like upfront
- 53:43they're actually being like, hey, this is like a thing, like
- 53:45we're working here, all right. Then Vilmer comes in, throws
- 53:48Darla out and closes the door and just like, does a lot of
- 53:51shouting in Jenny's face. And then this is where they all
- 53:55move to the kitchen and they're fighting, as is customary in a
- 53:58Texas Chainsaw movie. Except for the last one because
- 54:01they were functional. Found family situation.
- 54:03Yeah, that's true. That's the most chill family is
- 54:07Texas Chainsaw 3. Jenny ends up grabbing the
- 54:09shotgun and she tells them to get on the ground.
- 54:12But Vilmer is like, you know what?
- 54:14I'm a cut my titty instead. I like how.
- 54:17He he just goes and grabs a beer from the fridge.
- 54:19Yeah, it's like, you know what? I need a drink.
- 54:22They're all fighting again, and Jenny tries to wake Heather up.
- 54:27Vilmer ends up taking the gun. He does his oh.
- 54:33My God, I love it, man. He like does this chant.
- 54:35The chaos here is great. And he he's fucking with her
- 54:38head. He's like, he's got the shotgun
- 54:40shells. He's like, I bet you they don't.
- 54:42That thing is not loaded, so they don't know.
- 54:44He takes it and he ends up shooting it into the ceiling.
- 54:46It's actually loaded. Yeah, so Jenny ends up running
- 54:49out and he follows, and this is where he jumps out the window
- 54:52and he gives a big old Hardy. Yeah, wins right on the car.
- 54:57So they get her, and they bring her back inside.
- 55:00Leatherface fancies himself up. Doing the Pretty Woman.
- 55:04Yeah, yeah, I like it. So does Darla.
- 55:07She is dressed. Kind of like Heather, I've kind.
- 55:10Of like Heather, yeah, she puts on a a little purple dress and
- 55:13does her hair up the same way she she and she puts the pizza
- 55:17in the what is it? The convection oven.
- 55:20Yeah, so she gets in there and she starts like having this hot
- 55:23and steamy moment with Filmer and she like, takes his remote
- 55:26control and starts fucking with his leg.
- 55:28Yeah, he's got like a hydraulic leg brace on.
- 55:31Yeah, we've never really mentioned that yet because it
- 55:33hasn't been super relevant, but it's going to be relevant for
- 55:37the rest of this movie. It's a thing, Yeah.
- 55:39And she, I think that turns him on, like the fact that he takes
- 55:43or she takes control of his leg and it's just like making him
- 55:45sit down and get back up and like, over and over again.
- 55:47It's really fucking strange. They have this aggressive make
- 55:50out session that she, like, shoves them into the fridge and
- 55:53everything like that. And then she goes and serves
- 55:55pizza dinner. And as Vilmer walks in, he says
- 55:58what? All right, all right, all right.
- 56:02So Dill Resource getting really aggressive with Jimmy and
- 56:08they're all fighting, Darla's yelling, and then I love
- 56:12Leatherface just sitting at the table just painting their nails.
- 56:16My favorite thing is WE just having like a chill conversation
- 56:20with grandpa over. There, Yeah.
- 56:22They say that they want Jenny, that Leatherface wants Jenny's
- 56:26face as her new face. So Jenny starts fighting because
- 56:30she realizes that means that, yeah, obviously your skin's
- 56:32going to be she. Gets she gets up, she slaps
- 56:35Vilmer in the face, and then she just starts scolding everybody.
- 56:38She's like, no, this isn't happening, you guys need to get
- 56:40your fucking shit together. And then she's like, I'm
- 56:43leaving, I'm getting out of here.
- 56:45Vilmer gets so pissed off about this he just storms out of the
- 56:49kitchen and. Then Grandpa walks out too.
- 56:51Grandpa just gets up and walks. Yeah, and then leather face
- 56:54starts going and she's like, no, she's like tells him to shut up
- 57:00and he actually just stops. So this is when the suits arrive
- 57:05from the secret society. They come in and they try and
- 57:08calm Jenny and then they have a. He he starts talking to Vilmer
- 57:15and he's like, this is appalling.
- 57:18You are here for one reason. And he's like, do you understand
- 57:22what that is? And Vilmer won't say anything.
- 57:24And he's like, I want them to know the meaning of horror.
- 57:28Yes. Don't be a silly boy.
- 57:31And then he proceeds to unbutton his shirt, walk over to Jenny,
- 57:36revealing. Restrained by Leatherface now.
- 57:39Revealing his body mods and he goes over, kneels down and just
- 57:44starts licking her face. Which again, will not feel like
- 57:47a dogs tongue, no. Or a cat's tongue, as we
- 57:50discussed. And then he leaves.
- 57:52He just walks out after that. Jenny wants to try and find a
- 57:56way out, well, first, and she's trying to get Heather.
- 57:58Wilmer. Wilmer blows off scene from that
- 58:01immediately by going over to Heather and crushing her head.
- 58:03Yeah. Or somebody said we, we.
- 58:05It's Heather. We forgot to mention the part
- 58:07where he lit Heather on fire. Yeah, oh, I wrote that he
- 58:12emulates her, but we were caught up in all of the yelling.
- 58:15Yeah, yeah, he he like straight up put her on fire.
- 58:17I like Darla's immediate reaction to go get the
- 58:21extinguisher and just put it. I was like, God damn it, I
- 58:23wasn't prepared for that. Shit, he starts cutting himself
- 58:27again because it's just how he blows off steam.
- 58:29Darla is trying to stop him from doing it, Leatherface is crying,
- 58:32and Jenny runs. Filmer tries to grab her, but
- 58:35she ends up finding the remote for his brace and sets it going
- 58:39haywire, and she manages to get out that way.
- 58:41And then this is where he's got apparently a bunch of remotes
- 58:44for his brace that are all programmed to it, so he's trying
- 58:47to get one that'll work the. One that the battery works then.
- 58:50Yeah, he ends up getting it, and then him and Leatherface chase
- 58:54Jenny an RV picks her up. Like it doesn't stop moving
- 58:57because Leatherface is real fucking fast, ends up picking
- 59:01her up and Leatherface and Vilmer are in the tow truck and
- 59:04they're kind of racing the RV chariot style like bumping up
- 59:09against it and the RV ends up crashing.
- 59:11It's. Kind of like the Texas Transom 2
- 59:13scene on the bridge there. Like he's like standing in the
- 59:15back of the truck chasing on it. Yeah, the RV flips over.
- 59:19Jenny gets out and she runs. There is a plane that is flying
- 59:22very low overhead. It ends up hitting Filmer.
- 59:25Leatherface is screaming. Limo pulls up and gets Jenny.
- 59:29It's got the suit guy in there who apologized and he's like,
- 59:31listen, like I said, we just, we wanted to get you to the divine
- 59:36place from horror. Would you like to go to the
- 59:39police station or the hospital? He said this is supposed to be a
- 59:42spiritual experience and he's he's apologizing because he's
- 59:47like, this went horribly wrong. This isn't how it was supposed
- 59:50to go. And then the cop there, John
- 59:53Dugan, is telling her promise we'll follow up on this.
- 59:59This is not the end of this. And I'm like, I feel like Sally
- 1:00:01Hardesty heard the same thing. And she's rolling past on the
- 1:00:03Gurney. She's like, yeah, no, I
- 1:00:04definitely heard the. Same thing.
- 1:00:05They make eye contact, and it's really weird.
- 1:00:07And he just keeps asking, so do you know that woman, ma'am?
- 1:00:10Ma'am, do you know that woman? And he's like, what is going on
- 1:00:12in this place? OK.
- 1:00:13It's apparently like a common occurrence.
- 1:00:15There's a lot of people like that there, apparently.
- 1:00:19And that's the end of the movie. Get that web-based in the
- 1:00:22chainsaw that ends. Yeah.
- 1:00:23Mm. Hmm.
- 1:00:24I always love closing on it. Yeah.
- 1:00:26Text the chainsaw with that. Mm.
- 1:00:28Hmm. OK.
- 1:00:29All right. Yep.
- 1:00:30That's how it ends. Over finito?
- 1:00:33Yep. Where are you rating it?
- 1:00:37I'll do 85. 85, yeah, I'm keeping it at a nine.
- 1:00:41So we get 8.75 as our new average.
- 1:00:44Well, it's one thing you would change just to bump it up a
- 1:00:46little bit more. Like I said, don't follow the
- 1:00:48formula of the first movie. Go off the rails and do your own
- 1:00:51thing. This movie, it was a remake,
- 1:00:53essentially. Really, when you think of it,
- 1:00:56it's a remake. We don't do dream sequels in
- 1:01:00this, but because it's a franchise.
- 1:01:02But for Texas Chainsaw and my inability to keep track of them,
- 1:01:08we need to come up with what is the nickname for this movie.
- 1:01:11I think the obvious 1 is this is the Matthew McConaughey 1.
- 1:01:15Yeah, I feel like you can come up with a better name than just
- 1:01:17the Matthew McConaughey 1 though.
- 1:01:18We're not trying to come up with a name, we're just trying to
- 1:01:20come up with like a nickname for it so we know what it is.
- 1:01:23OK. OK, well, do you want a name for
- 1:01:26it? Do you want a name for it?
- 1:01:27Come up with a name. No, let's just do Matthew
- 1:01:31McConaughey. That's fine.
- 1:01:32So Talia, man, she was feeling it last night.
- 1:01:36She was showing off her tummy. I'm just going to say everybody
- 1:01:39was bopping last night. Nobody wanted to watch the
- 1:01:41movie. Everybody was just like going
- 1:01:43off doing all kinds of shit. Like Scout, Zoe, Talia, They're
- 1:01:48all just like rolling around bark and meowing all kinds of
- 1:01:50stuff. They were just not having it.
- 1:01:53But I do think Talia generally likes this movie.
- 1:01:56She was excited. I think she was looking forward
- 1:01:58to it. She just got caught up in the
- 1:02:00energy of the cast. It's kind of like Vilmer is like
- 1:02:02barking, and so she appreciates that she feels seen with it.
- 1:02:05Yeah. So I think Talia would give this
- 1:02:09A7. OK, I think 7 works for her.
- 1:02:13Who is Zoe's ultimate warrior? Filmer like the Boo, That's what
- 1:02:19she does in the middle of the night, and she does that stuff
- 1:02:23in the middle of the night. She types herself up just like
- 1:02:25Wilmer does. She does OK.
- 1:02:29Who'd you relate to? I related to Leatherface, just
- 1:02:32sitting at the dinner table painting nails, just like all
- 1:02:35those dramas going on. But I gotta chip.
- 1:02:37I gotta take care of this. I related to grandpa because,
- 1:02:40like, when shit got real, he just wanted to get the fuck out
- 1:02:43of there. And I would have done the exact
- 1:02:44same. Yeah, it just got too much
- 1:02:46relatable. I would have just bowed out and
- 1:02:47be like, all right, I'm done. Yeah, this, this got too much
- 1:02:50too fast, Yeah. OK, tagline.
- 1:02:53Yeah, new tagline. I feel like you can do the same
- 1:02:57type of thing with like Matthew McConaughey and Dazed and
- 1:03:00Confused with this movie where like you're talking about the
- 1:03:02Texas chance on massacre movies being the same.
- 1:03:04Like I get older they keep staying the same.
- 1:03:08So Leatherface keeps Leatherface keeps getting older.
- 1:03:13His victims just keep saying what?
- 1:03:16Is what's the? That's what I was going to ask
- 1:03:18you. All right, Leatherface keeps
- 1:03:20getting older, and his victims stay the same age.
- 1:03:25We can do better than this. In Central Texas, everything is
- 1:03:29not all right, all right, all right.
- 1:03:32Yeah, it is in fact, not. All right, all right, all right.
- 1:03:38OK, OK, I can deal with that. Cool.
- 1:03:40All right, All right. So I think we are ready for some
- 1:03:44reviews. OK, so I actually pulled a
- 1:03:46critic review for this one. This was a review written for
- 1:03:51the New York Times by somebody named Janet Maslin, and I'm just
- 1:03:56gonna read a snippet of it without much wood of its own.
- 1:04:00Kim Hinkle's tyro film is just what the Polish scream makes fun
- 1:04:03of. Heather, you OK?
- 1:04:05There's some crazy guy outside with a shotgun.
- 1:04:07Locked him out though it's own efforts to be tongue in cheek.
- 1:04:10As with the backwoods gunman who goats Emerson and Machiavelli
- 1:04:14fall seriously flat. Why can't I talk?
- 1:04:18But should anyone have the patience to look closely at the
- 1:04:20two leading players, do show signs of what would soon make
- 1:04:23them famous. Mizelle Weger, sweet and
- 1:04:26sprightly in a natural born ditz, may be the only actress
- 1:04:29who could point a gun bravely at a killer, then simply shriek and
- 1:04:31drop it and scamper away. Matthew McConaughey, already
- 1:04:35armed and dangerous with those flash knives and dimples,
- 1:04:37manages to play a murderous nut with more swagger than the role
- 1:04:40deserves. Still, there is no good way for
- 1:04:42him to grab the Zellweger by the face and stick his fingers into
- 1:04:45her mouth, which is the kind of semi nasty violence that is seen
- 1:04:47here. Much of it comes from
- 1:04:49Leatherface, played by Robert Jacks.
- 1:04:51About that, the less said the better.
- 1:04:53When was this reviewed? August 29th, 1997.
- 1:04:58So this is after the the Columbia Tri-star review.
- 1:05:05Well, yeah. I don't know, I think it's
- 1:05:08tongue in cheek. I don't think everything has to
- 1:05:10be like super polished and bright and shiny.
- 1:05:13Well, this franchise is never any of those things.
- 1:05:15Yeah. And The thing is that like it
- 1:05:18seems like it came out after Scream and I think this reviewer
- 1:05:21was comparing it to Scream because of that, but it was made
- 1:05:24before Scream. Yeah, I don't think that's fair.
- 1:05:26You need to look at it in like the lens of 94.
- 1:05:28And again, it's it's own franchise.
- 1:05:30It's not Scream. It's Texas trains on Massacre,
- 1:05:33you know. Yeah.
- 1:05:35And that's like one of those things where I can understand
- 1:05:37why people hate Scream because, like, they're like Scream ruined
- 1:05:40movies because like, everybody changed how they started looking
- 1:05:44at movies around that time. And like, because of that,
- 1:05:48they're like, yeah, Texas Chainsaw just didn't really.
- 1:05:50Like, I get it, it's tongue in cheek, but why not be Scream?
- 1:05:53Like, you know what I mean? Like, no, that's not that's not
- 1:05:56what they wanted to do. They wanted to make fun of the
- 1:06:00like the culture of that era. The teens make them super like
- 1:06:05stylized and like amped up versions of that.
- 1:06:09And they just kind of did the same with the characters from
- 1:06:12the first movie too. They just took them and like
- 1:06:14went in the weirdest possible direction that they could have.
- 1:06:17And I think that makes for an entertaining movie right there,
- 1:06:20man. The characters are the thing
- 1:06:22that I think makes this movie one of the stronger in the
- 1:06:24series personally. Yes.
- 1:06:26And I think the acting is great. And honestly, like, I don't
- 1:06:30know, Texas Chainsaw, it is grittier.
- 1:06:33It is nastier. That's just part of what this
- 1:06:36franchise is. The weird thing like they
- 1:06:39sounded like that person was knocking the weather face in
- 1:06:41this movie, but I like the weather face in this movie.
- 1:06:43This is one of the movies that I think actually nails the weather
- 1:06:46face look really hard. The original mass is OK, but the
- 1:06:50Pretty Woman look in this movie is great.
- 1:06:52I mean you can't beat the original Pretty Woman from the
- 1:06:56original movie, but this Pretty Woman look is awesome.
- 1:06:59I fucking love it. It's got this creepiness to it.
- 1:07:02Like I don't know man. I thought that they did a great
- 1:07:05job with this one personally. Like I totally get people not
- 1:07:09liking this one though. And that's the thing, I it hurts
- 1:07:12still that this is a movie that's in the threes on IMDb.
- 1:07:15But like. I feel like I'm seeing people
- 1:07:18turn on this one. I'm I'm seeing more and more
- 1:07:20positive comments about this movie as we are going on.
- 1:07:24I think so. I think it's one of those that
- 1:07:26people are starting to find a love for nowadays.
- 1:07:29Just today, like I was like, I'm subscribed to the Halloween
- 1:07:33movie subreddit and somebody's like, all right, which one would
- 1:07:35you rather watch? It was Halloween Resurrection or
- 1:07:37Texas Chainsaw the Next Generation.
- 1:07:39And somebody's like honestly, Texas Chainsaw because it's
- 1:07:43good. And we get Matthew McConaughey
- 1:07:46chewing up every single scene that he's in compared to Busta
- 1:07:49Rhymes, which I will fucking defend Busta Rhymes and
- 1:07:52Halloween Resurrection also. I don't like his writing, I like
- 1:07:55his acting. I think he's just a fun
- 1:07:58character. Just doing Kung Fu on Michael
- 1:08:00Myers. I don't give a shit, man, That's
- 1:08:02fun. OK, do we have any listener
- 1:08:05reviews? We do OK.
- 1:08:07First off we have Tucker who says OK look crazy.
- 1:08:11McConaughey alone makes this terrible, terrible movie.
- 1:08:13A7 out 10 for me. Like you said, he chews every
- 1:08:18bit of scenery and everything he's in.
- 1:08:20Dude, he's amazing. He elevates this movie with that
- 1:08:23performance. Honestly, if you didn't have
- 1:08:25that, I don't think it would succeed.
- 1:08:26A lesser performer could not have made this movie as good as
- 1:08:29it is. No, exactly.
- 1:08:31We have Michael E Howard who says Texas Chainsaw Massacre The
- 1:08:35next generation does not get the love it deserves.
- 1:08:37This most insane ride feels like a fever dream.
- 1:08:40Adding it to the Chainsaw legacy only makes it even more
- 1:08:43delirious. This is top notch B movie love
- 1:08:46here and I'm Tim. Hell yeah, man, that's that
- 1:08:49person that. Gets it?
- 1:08:50Right there. And we have one thing.
- 1:08:52It's not a review, but it was a Jurassic Souls who said I've yet
- 1:08:56to see it. All I know is Matthew
- 1:08:57McConaughey is unhinged. I'm hyped.
- 1:08:59Watch it. I can't wait for you to watch
- 1:09:01it. I think you'll enjoy it.
- 1:09:03Yeah, man, it's a fucking crazy movie.
- 1:09:06I'm glad that the people here that listen to the show are the
- 1:09:11type that like this movie too. I I seem to recall in the
- 1:09:15discord where a couple of folks are watching this.
- 1:09:17Yeah, and. They ended up really enjoying it
- 1:09:20as well. Chad, Chad remarked of his love
- 1:09:23for it. And then Johnny watched it, I
- 1:09:25think for the first time. I said it was a wild, wild ride.
- 1:09:28I don't know what that means, Johnny, but.
- 1:09:29I think from Johnny that's a compliment.
- 1:09:31I think it is too. Yeah, I think.
- 1:09:33Yeah, Johnny, usually. Is Johnny doesn't mince words.
- 1:09:36Yeah. All right.
- 1:09:38So, yeah, yeah, it's it's good, man.
- 1:09:40If you, any of you hearing what we said, like I said about
- 1:09:45previous movies on this month's episodes, this is 1 if even if
- 1:09:49you know what's going to happen, watch it because it's the
- 1:09:52experience that you're going for.
- 1:09:54There's nothing really that should like surprises you in
- 1:09:56this movie. It's just a fun time.
- 1:09:58Ever surprising and it takes a chainsaw movie other than
- 1:10:02Leatherface. There's one that's surprising.
- 1:10:04There's a few moments that will surprise me and some of them and
- 1:10:09upcoming ones we'll talk about. But yeah, this movie, like it's
- 1:10:12just it's just a fucking experience you need.
- 1:10:15Everybody needs to watch this movie.
- 1:10:16I think go in with like with open expectations open.
- 1:10:21Heart, open mind. Yeah, just, you know, just go
- 1:10:24in, look for a good time. I think you'll have one.
- 1:10:27That's it for this month. It's it for prom month.
- 1:10:31We are gonna be moving over next month into another theme and
- 1:10:35that would be Pride month. So we will have that schedule
- 1:10:39out to you guys here very, very soon.
- 1:10:41Be on the lookout for it on our social media.
- 1:10:43And as always, we will be taking all of our profits from the
- 1:10:48Patreon for the month of June and donating them to the Trevor
- 1:10:51Project, which is a suicidal mental health emergency hotline
- 1:10:56for LGBT youth. So if you if you've been curious
- 1:11:01about the Patreon, you want to experience it.
- 1:11:05As always, the link about the link to that is in the bottom of
- 1:11:08our show notes. But if you want to give it like
- 1:11:10a one month trial and see if you like it, do it in June.
- 1:11:13That way, that money goes to the Trevor Project.
- 1:11:15Yeah, if you need to find it too, it's on our social, it's on
- 1:11:18our wink tree that we have tied to our profile, so it's easy to
- 1:11:21find. But yeah, even for just one
- 1:11:23month, just think of it as a donation to a good cause.
- 1:11:25And then you get some entertainment too if you wanna
- 1:11:27check out. We got like a big backlog.
- 1:11:29Of all of the past bonus episodes, yeah.
- 1:11:31Yeah, we got a lot of stuff there to check out and if you
- 1:11:33feel like sticking around, hey, yeah, we'll talk.
- 1:11:35We'll say your name at least once on an.
- 1:11:37Episode We'll say your name, you'll get a sticker.
- 1:11:39Yeah, you'll get a sticker. Yes, you'll get a sticker.
- 1:11:42Yeah. The next Texas Chainsaw Massacre
- 1:11:44movie that comes out next month. The remake.
- 1:11:47Yeah. So yeah.
- 1:11:48Are we already on the remake? Yeah, we go to the remake next.
- 1:11:52Oh boy, this is where I'm going to start getting really confused
- 1:11:55about what movie we're talking about.
- 1:11:56You guys. I, for the life of me, cannot
- 1:11:59keep me straight. Jesse, this has been the entire
- 1:12:01time. You've never once known one
- 1:12:03movie you've been talking about this entire time.
- 1:12:05I've known these 4:00-ish. Debatable.
- 1:12:11Maybe we we I haven't I could go back and pull clips from each
- 1:12:14episode and I could have I could build a case you're.
