- 0:00Aloha. Wednesday morning. Tropical Storm Nolo is moving away, but rain bands are soaking Oʻahu and Kauaʻi through Friday. I'm Mele with what's happening in Hawaiʻi today.
- 1:44Expect repeated showers on Kauaʻi — 3 to 6 inches total, some spots up to 10. Oʻahu will see heavy rain too, with street flooding possible in low-lying areas. Southeast winds stay breezy through Thursday. Maui and the leeward Big Island get much clearer skies. If you're on Oʻahu or Kauaʻi today, plan indoor activities and watch your footing in flooded areas.
- 2:02Surf is moderate on both Oʻahu shores at around 5 feet — watch for rip currents and shore break. Kauaʻi is running large at 6 feet with a powerful shore break, experienced swimmers and surfers only. Maui is comfortable at 3.2 feet, and the Big Island is calm at 1.6 feet.
- 2:16Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park has several trails and roads closed for maintenance — Mauna Loa Road, Hilina Pali Road, and Kīpukapuaulu Trail are not available right now. The park is open otherwise. Watch for volcanic ash in the area.
- 2:27Kauaʻi is opening back up after the storm, but recovery is uneven. Our piece on Kauaʻi's reopening covers which visitor businesses are running again and where demand is still slow. Some operators report guests canceling even as access improves. It's worth checking the current status before you book — the islands are resilient, but getting all the pieces back online takes time.
- 2:46The rain clears by early next week as Tropical Storm Nolo drifts farther away and trade winds rebuild. A fresh south swell is on the horizon for Monday and Tuesday.
- 2:55Our Kauaʻi piece is on the site if you're planning a trip there. Catch you tomorrow.
