- 0:00Speaker 1: Welcome to for the Dads. Thank you for tuning in
- 0:03Speaker 1: on this early Wednesday morning. I hope the trash is
- 0:05Speaker 1: taken out. I hope you made yourself some breakfast, packed
- 0:07Speaker 1: the little kids backpack. This is a show for the dads,
- 0:12Speaker 1: for the dads who are in it, about to be
- 0:13Speaker 1: in it, or maybe you're just somebody tuning in wondering
- 0:16Speaker 1: what dad life dad culture is all about. This is
- 0:19Speaker 1: not a show about giving advice or being experts. We're
- 0:21Speaker 1: just a couple of dads trying to pioneer and carry
- 0:24Speaker 1: a flag for fatherhood, for dad culture, and just and
- 0:27Speaker 1: speak up for our mental load. We have a lot
- 0:31Speaker 1: of different segments in this show. We talk about our
- 0:33Speaker 1: dad losses, which we get creative and what we call
- 0:36Speaker 1: that segment. I'm not saying it at the top of
- 0:37Speaker 1: the episode because I assume the YouTube algorithm might penalize
- 0:41Speaker 1: us for that. We talk about our dad losses. Well,
- 0:43Speaker 1: we crack a cold one too. We dive into fan
- 0:45Speaker 1: callings this week. We have a lot of great feedback
- 0:47Speaker 1: from episode one. We play a couple fan callings and
- 0:50Speaker 1: talk about those lessons that we are leaning into to
- 0:55Speaker 1: become better versions in our minds. Of what fatherhood is.
- 0:59Speaker 1: But again, and we have a lot of fun. If
- 1:01Speaker 1: you are a current dad, if you're a new dad,
- 1:04Speaker 1: if you're an old dad just trying to figure your
- 1:05Speaker 1: phone out right now, make sure you're subscribed to this channel.
- 1:09Speaker 1: Right now, we are on all Busting with the Boys channels.
- 1:11Speaker 1: In July, we will be launching our for the Dad's
- 1:14Speaker 1: YouTube channel, so be on the lookout for that. We
- 1:16Speaker 1: have a lot of merchandise as you can see, for
- 1:18Speaker 1: the Dad's hats, hoodie shirts, everything in between. That is
- 1:21Speaker 1: at BWTB dot com. Again, Suram, I said that I
- 1:27Speaker 1: said that part. Shream. I fucking said that part. And
- 1:31Speaker 1: I was rolling on this intro. Uh. Sherman was showing
- 1:40Speaker 1: me something on the on the computer and I was
- 1:42Speaker 1: thinking to myself, I literally have already said that let's
- 1:47Speaker 1: dive into it. Let let's let's take out the trash boys.
- 1:49Speaker 1: Come to another episode of four the Dads. This is
- 1:52Speaker 1: episode two. I am Will Compton, my co host and
- 1:56Speaker 1: producer of the show. Sherman Young is with your boy.
- 2:01Speaker 1: You're probably watching on YouTube right now, maybe you're listening,
- 2:04Speaker 1: maybe you're in the middle of the night right now
- 2:06Speaker 1: listening to us in your ear. Maybe you are taking
- 2:08Speaker 1: out the trash reminder. It is trash day. It is Wednesday.
- 2:11Speaker 1: So if you're my part, I know in my neck
- 2:12Speaker 1: of the woods in Nashville, Tennessee, it is trash day.
- 2:14Speaker 1: So I hope you guys are getting the canes out
- 2:16Speaker 1: to the curb. Whether it's Thursday day before, get it
- 2:18Speaker 1: out there, get it early, get it often. Or maybe
- 2:21Speaker 1: you might just be sitting on the couch watching with
- 2:23Speaker 1: your wife because you enjoyed episode one so much that
- 2:26Speaker 1: you're like, hey, now it's time to get the misses involved.
- 2:28Speaker 1: But maybe not, because this is a safe space for
- 2:31Speaker 1: the father. So if your wife is watching with you,
- 2:33Speaker 1: just let her know, honey, like this is just a
- 2:36Speaker 1: pod for the dads, Like this is for our voices.
- 2:39Speaker 1: This is our safe space where we can vent. We
- 2:42Speaker 1: might bitch a little bit about our wives, and that's
- 2:44Speaker 1: okay because that's no matter what. We're coming home because sweetheart,
- 2:48Speaker 1: we love you. But all to say, a lot of
- 2:51Speaker 1: great feedback last week, bro, the feedback's crazy, the finback's insane.
- 2:57Speaker 1: I got a few I want to shout out because
- 2:59Speaker 1: I was going through the I was going through the comments.
- 3:01Speaker 2: I'm glad you did that.
- 3:02Speaker 1: Yeah, I was going through the comments seeing what people
- 3:04Speaker 1: had said. But shout out again, Jerry Ferris. He was
- 3:07Speaker 1: the one delivering his newborn on the bathroom floor. I
- 3:10Speaker 1: saw comments on the YouTube page, but shout out the boy.
- 3:13Speaker 1: Shout out the dad, Jerry Ferris. A lot of people
- 3:15Speaker 1: enjoying Pizza Friday, the Pizza Friday shout outs getting more.
- 3:19Speaker 1: It's good to grow the community on Pizza Friday. We
- 3:21Speaker 1: need more dads involved in growing the Pizza Friday community.
- 3:25Speaker 1: Aaron Wood, a twenty five year old girl dad, buddy,
- 3:28Speaker 1: his buddies don't have kids in this show helps him
- 3:31Speaker 1: fill the void. We also had a couple of dads
- 3:33Speaker 1: chime in. Jackson who's twenty five chimed in saying the
- 3:36Speaker 1: same thing, and even Adam, a forty year old girl
- 3:39Speaker 1: dad was saying the same thing. Hey, yeah, maybe his
- 3:41Speaker 1: buddies don't have kids. I don't know. Maybe he's not
- 3:43Speaker 1: surrounded by some friends and he might just need this
- 3:45Speaker 1: show to vent or feel like he's part of the
- 3:48Speaker 1: he's part of the trenches.
- 3:49Speaker 2: Well yeah, yeah, he's still in the game.
- 3:52Speaker 1: Knicks World. His wife is a shout out Knicks World
- 3:55Speaker 1: on YouTube and I saw this one in the comments.
- 3:57Speaker 1: His wife is twenty six weeks pregnant. Listen to the show,
- 4:00Speaker 1: so again, you can be an expecting father like yourself. Sure,
- 4:04Speaker 1: you can be a dad who's currently in it you
- 4:06Speaker 1: got some young ones, or you can be a father
- 4:09Speaker 1: who's got you know, I've seeing some people saying that
- 4:11Speaker 1: their kids are now in their twenties, but they just
- 4:13Speaker 1: enjoy listening back and hearing all the memories about fatherhood.
- 4:18Speaker 2: Yeah that not only the comments, but the dms and
- 4:23Speaker 2: the six on one, the dad's hotline. Yeah, man, you
- 4:26Speaker 2: were telling me bonkers, how many what.
- 4:29Speaker 1: Was that number? Yesterday? It was like seventy four had
- 4:31Speaker 1: left voicemails?
- 4:32Speaker 2: Yes, uh, and it was even more today. Chef who
- 4:37Speaker 2: helps dial everything in on the back end, as far
- 4:39Speaker 2: as six on one, the dads are DM socials. Chefs
- 4:43Speaker 2: show me the voicemails even today, and I'm seeing those
- 4:46Speaker 2: blue dots next to him, which means they're new voicemails
- 4:49Speaker 2: on the iPhone. You're just actually have the This is
- 4:52Speaker 2: the six on one, the dad's phone, right, that's the phone,
- 4:55Speaker 2: right there is the hotline. This is the hotline six
- 4:58Speaker 2: on one, the Dad's You guys have I'm doing a
- 5:00Speaker 2: great job calling in one of my favorite ones. I
- 5:03Speaker 2: kind of want to play. I wish I had selected
- 5:07Speaker 2: it now that I think about it, had zero questions,
- 5:11Speaker 2: didn't want to say anything except for a happy Father's
- 5:14Speaker 2: Day to the boys. Dude, that's all he wanted to say.
- 5:17Speaker 1: Yeah, because by the time this one drops, a Father's
- 5:19Speaker 1: Day will have already happened. Yes, I hope dad's I
- 5:22Speaker 1: hope the father's out there got everything they wanted. I
- 5:24Speaker 1: hope they got their their feet rubbed. I hope they
- 5:26Speaker 1: got to sleep in maybe a little bit, maybe take
- 5:28Speaker 1: a nap in the afternoon. I know, if you're listening
- 5:30Speaker 1: to this now, I'm going to say that I successfully
- 5:32Speaker 1: got to take a nap in the afternoon, because that's
- 5:35Speaker 1: one big thing I always enjoy. You have a little
- 5:38Speaker 1: bit of free time, get on the big love sack,
- 5:40Speaker 1: take a little nap on a Sunday.
- 5:41Speaker 2: Is that the love sack that's up in your game? Ram, Yeah, yeah,
- 5:44Speaker 2: that thing is. It's gonna cloud.
- 5:46Speaker 1: It's comfy. You see. We got a couple facelifts. If
- 5:49Speaker 1: I don't know if the cameras are showing it, but
- 5:51Speaker 1: we now have a refrigerator or interns at a great
- 5:53Speaker 1: job grabbing this refrigerator at an antique shop. We got
- 5:58Speaker 1: Shirm's little bean, the photos hanging up on the fridge.
- 6:02Speaker 1: We got Rue. She made that little sheep. Clearly, she
- 6:05Speaker 1: probably didn't make the sheep. She probably had a little help,
- 6:08Speaker 1: but she made the little sheep and the butterfly coloring
- 6:11Speaker 1: that you see, that was that was Taylor.
- 6:14Speaker 2: Oh really yeah, well well done Taylor.
- 6:17Speaker 1: Yeah, well done Taylor.
- 6:18Speaker 2: That's awesome.
- 6:19Speaker 1: Yeah, but yeah, I look at that. I'm like, God,
- 6:22Speaker 1: we gotta work on color and in between the lines.
- 6:24Speaker 1: I've been trying to work with her. God bless her.
- 6:26Speaker 1: She loves coloring, She loves doing all. She gets very
- 6:28Speaker 1: frustrated if she can't color inside the lines, and she
- 6:31Speaker 1: just wants, like dead that you do it, Mama, you
- 6:33Speaker 1: do it. You know what I mean. Yeah, she's got
- 6:35Speaker 1: to keep practicing. You got to keep trying. But we
- 6:37Speaker 1: got a little facelift with the uh, with the studio
- 6:39Speaker 1: set up.
- 6:41Speaker 2: Got a little face lift. I actually might have my
- 6:43Speaker 2: first tip. My mom's an artist. If you go, if
- 6:48Speaker 2: you start with Rue on the edges. This is for
- 6:50Speaker 2: any dads out there. If you start on the edges
- 6:53Speaker 2: and you have them trace inside of that line and
- 6:56Speaker 2: practice tracing. That's a good way to get that hand
- 7:00Speaker 2: a little steady, and it kind of makes it like
- 7:03Speaker 2: nice for them of oh I can do that, because
- 7:05Speaker 2: it's kind of hard when they're scratching and blah blah.
- 7:08Speaker 2: But hey, try and go with the line first and
- 7:11Speaker 2: then fill it in. There's a little game.
- 7:13Speaker 1: It's a good Yeah, a little game, good little starting point,
- 7:16Speaker 1: good little step one.
- 7:17Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 7:18Speaker 1: Yeah, what uh dude, what's been going on? Anything? Any
- 7:21Speaker 1: new updates before we get into you know, getting motherfucker
- 7:24Speaker 1: to crack a cold one getting into our segments. Yeah, dude.
- 7:29Speaker 2: The so Jill is starting to officially pack the hospital bag,
- 7:34Speaker 2: like the overnight bag. Yeah, And last night I was
- 7:38Speaker 2: watching I was watching TV, and I was eating dinner
- 7:41Speaker 2: and we have these little dinner set things that we
- 7:45Speaker 2: sit and eat because Jill's belly is so big that
- 7:48Speaker 2: it's not comfortable for her to really kind of sit
- 7:50Speaker 2: at the dinner table. She's kinda kind of sit back
- 7:53Speaker 2: while she's eating. And she's on FaceTime with her mom
- 7:56Speaker 2: at Lululemon. She's, you know, Mom's take out some bougie
- 8:00Speaker 2: suffer Jill. And then I hear does Sherman need anything
- 8:04Speaker 2: for the hospital? Does he need any new clothes? And
- 8:07Speaker 2: I'm in the background going, no, I work at Bustin
- 8:09Speaker 2: where you guys give us free clothes, like like twice
- 8:13Speaker 2: a week, three times a week. We need something new.
- 8:15Speaker 2: And Joe goes, yes, you do, you do need new? Yeah? Mom,
- 8:19Speaker 2: he needs sweatpants, he needs blah blah blah. They're just
- 8:22Speaker 2: like buying all this stuff for me. I didn't even
- 8:23Speaker 2: see it, but uh, it's great when the girls just
- 8:26Speaker 2: like take the reins on the shopping stuff because I'm
- 8:29Speaker 2: terrible at it, and whatever they buy me, I smile
- 8:32Speaker 2: and just say thank you and I'll wear it.
- 8:35Speaker 1: And just packing the overnight bag, oh yeah, all the things,
- 8:39Speaker 1: you know, the little wrinkles that go into that because
- 8:41Speaker 1: you're just thinking, I mean, what all are they going
- 8:43Speaker 1: to have any everything there for us?
- 8:45Speaker 2: That was my thought. And then I'm seeing this bag
- 8:48Speaker 2: and it looks like we're going to an overnight camp
- 8:51Speaker 2: like I went to camp as a kid. And like packing,
- 8:53Speaker 2: you pack a trunk and a duffel. We need a
- 8:56Speaker 2: true duffel and you gotta have the outfit first.
- 8:58Speaker 1: Outfit they're gonna wear when they leave the hospital. Oh yeah,
- 9:01Speaker 1: and j Suddy of the outfits. Don't get me started
- 9:03Speaker 1: on the outfit. It's not the hospital one coming out.
- 9:05Speaker 1: I get that. That's a big moment and everything else.
- 9:07Speaker 1: I was with a fellow dad the other weekend and
- 9:10Speaker 1: we were at charl had like a bar three event
- 9:14Speaker 1: over what's that horse track over on the west side.
- 9:17Speaker 1: Ooh uh, Steeplechase. They had an event going on over
- 9:21Speaker 1: at Steeplechase. And I take the kids over, and I
- 9:26Speaker 1: take the kids over and we're watching her doer thing. Shit.
- 9:29Speaker 1: There was like three four hundred people there, and we're
- 9:32Speaker 1: just wanting to go see mom and stuff like that.
- 9:33Speaker 1: And I'm standing there next to a fellow dad's name.
- 9:36Speaker 1: His name is Tom. We'll say his last name, you know,
- 9:40Speaker 1: got to protect him on the show. Don't know if
- 9:41Speaker 1: his wife's listening right now, of course, of course, so
- 9:43Speaker 1: it could be any Tom. And we're standing there and
- 9:45Speaker 1: you know, we're kind of just venting, getting some dad
- 9:48Speaker 1: stuff off our chest, bitching a little bit, just having
- 9:50Speaker 1: a good time bonding over fatherhood, the sucky parts, like
- 9:53Speaker 1: some of the sucky parts of it. He was bringing
- 9:56Speaker 1: up this detail, and once he brought up he had
- 9:58Speaker 1: to he had to have their daughter in a specific
- 10:01Speaker 1: outfit coming over to the event. I'm like, buddy, don't
- 10:04Speaker 1: you hate when they do stuff like that? Like you're
- 10:08Speaker 1: just thinking, all right, I'm gonna get them dressed, then
- 10:10Speaker 1: you bring them downstairs, and then all of a sudden, Hey,
- 10:11Speaker 1: why didn't you put on the outfit I had laid out?
- 10:13Speaker 1: It's like a lot. It seemed a little complicated. I
- 10:16Speaker 1: don't want to have to tie the little strings on
- 10:17Speaker 1: the back of the neck, like or if it's a
- 10:19Speaker 1: dress and I don't know necessarily how to work it. It
- 10:22Speaker 1: seems like there's a lot of different things going on
- 10:24Speaker 1: with the operation, like what's wrong with your shorts and
- 10:26Speaker 1: a T shirt? And then next thing you know, you're
- 10:28Speaker 1: in a little you're in a little dust up. You're
- 10:30Speaker 1: in a little moment because they want a specific outfit
- 10:32Speaker 1: to go to a certain event. I'm not gonna say
- 10:35Speaker 1: leaving the hospital again aside from yeah, yeah, but in
- 10:38Speaker 1: everyday life, one thing that you're gonna run into is
- 10:41Speaker 1: they're gonna want them in certain outfits and some that
- 10:43Speaker 1: you're gonna come and you're like, how does this thing
- 10:45Speaker 1: function because again, you're gonna have a little girl too,
- 10:47Speaker 1: Like you're more privy to what guys where. It's like, hey,
- 10:50Speaker 1: shorts and a T shirt. It's gonna work just fine.
- 10:51Speaker 1: She's gonna play a lot, Like why does she need
- 10:53Speaker 1: a certain outfit? Because now when she's wearing her dresses,
- 10:56Speaker 1: she has an expectation of wanting to wear a dress,
- 10:58Speaker 1: and it's like, sweetheart, you can't wear a dress every
- 11:01Speaker 1: day of your life. You got gymnastics today, we got
- 11:04Speaker 1: sprints today. Yeah, yeah, you know what I'm saying.
- 11:07Speaker 2: And especially if she's getting into sports like soccer and
- 11:11Speaker 2: stuff like that, like she'll learn the importance of some
- 11:14Speaker 2: shorts or some T shirts over her dress. Now, I
- 11:18Speaker 2: don't want to put I don't want to get in
- 11:19Speaker 2: trouble with Jill.
- 11:21Speaker 1: Yeah, Charles, I love you. I love you. I know
- 11:24Speaker 1: she listened to last week, she might listen to this week,
- 11:26Speaker 1: who knows. But it's always the thing. I almost like,
- 11:29Speaker 1: sweetheart will be in the car. I'm like, why do
- 11:31Speaker 1: I got to put her in a certain outfit? Or
- 11:33Speaker 1: I might just say, hey, my bet on the outfit,
- 11:35Speaker 1: you know, kind of massage a little bit. But also
- 11:37Speaker 1: why does she gott to wear that outfit?
- 11:39Speaker 2: Yeah, and what's up with all the buttons on the outfits?
- 11:43Speaker 2: That's what I'm getting introduced right now because I'm just seeing,
- 11:46Speaker 2: like Scarlet's not here yet, obviously, But the closet is
- 11:49Speaker 2: more full than my closet, my like human thirty two
- 11:54Speaker 2: year old. I have a job, I have weekend outfits,
- 11:57Speaker 2: I have jackets and stuff for the winter. My born
- 12:00Speaker 2: child has more clothes inner closet right now, I swear
- 12:04Speaker 2: to God. And that might be because Jill has like
- 12:06Speaker 2: twenty six first cousins and all these aunts and uncles
- 12:09Speaker 2: like and so we're getting.
- 12:11Speaker 1: All these right, all these different outfits.
- 12:13Speaker 2: Thank you so much for sending them. But I'm also
- 12:16Speaker 2: looking at the closet. I'm like, holy.
- 12:18Speaker 1: Shit, Okay, she's only going to be three months old
- 12:21Speaker 1: for thirty days.
- 12:22Speaker 2: That's the other thing that And now that she's small,
- 12:26Speaker 2: they're like, okay, she's kind of smaller, so she'll actually
- 12:29Speaker 2: fit in premi stuff. So honey, we got to actually
- 12:32Speaker 2: go to Walmart. We got to buy the premie sizes
- 12:34Speaker 2: because she's gonna be a little on the smaller side.
- 12:36Speaker 2: And I'm like, okay, so like us going you know,
- 12:39Speaker 2: eight months in advance to buy the onesies. Maybe wasn't
- 12:42Speaker 2: the smartest decision, but it was so fun to go shopping.
- 12:47Speaker 2: But the question I have for you that might get
- 12:48Speaker 2: you in trouble. And I'm sorry, okay, but I laughed
- 12:51Speaker 2: when I overheard Jill say this. She has a we
- 12:55Speaker 2: have an induction date the second of July. She has
- 12:58Speaker 2: a hair appointment before the endduction date. Did Charles had
- 13:01Speaker 2: a hair appointment before her induction book?
- 13:04Speaker 1: I don't think so, Okay, I don't think she did.
- 13:07Speaker 1: I mean, buddy, it's a war in there.
- 13:10Speaker 2: I'm not ready.
- 13:12Speaker 1: I'm even thinking for Jill for what she's going to
- 13:14Speaker 1: get hair and makeup done. Yeah, that's what I'm saying.
- 13:17Speaker 2: Like, but she's getting her hair done.
- 13:18Speaker 1: It's a it's a war in Charle might have. I
- 13:20Speaker 1: have no clue. I don't remember with either of them,
- 13:26Speaker 1: her like having a hair appointment. Maybe she did, you
- 13:28Speaker 1: know what I mean, because then they you know, they
- 13:30Speaker 1: want to look, you know, as they're leaving the hospital
- 13:32Speaker 1: and everything else. Of course, but it's a war in there,
- 13:34Speaker 1: like you know, I hope, I hope the best way
- 13:37Speaker 1: I hope it's in you know, I hear my buddies
- 13:39Speaker 1: being like, hey, we spent about an hour in the hospital.
- 13:41Speaker 1: We were out, and it's like, well, good for you, man.
- 13:44Speaker 1: It was forty plus with Charles like it was a
- 13:47Speaker 1: it was a war.
- 13:48Speaker 2: But my buddy showed me a video of him and
- 13:50Speaker 2: his wife headed for their first baby girl. They're headed
- 13:53Speaker 2: to the hospital, and so I in that moment, I'm
- 13:57Speaker 2: sure I'm gonna be so crazy nervous. Thereah in a
- 13:59Speaker 2: red light and he had the thought to pull out
- 14:02Speaker 2: his phone and film his wife in the passenger seat
- 14:06Speaker 2: and she has the little mirror down and she's doing
- 14:08Speaker 2: her makeup in the mirror. That made me laugh so hard.
- 14:13Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, look, if they're in and out quick, yeah,
- 14:15Speaker 1: you know, maybe that's what Maybe that's all right, Okay,
- 14:18Speaker 1: you just gotta prepare. Bring your own pillow, bring your
- 14:20Speaker 1: comfy of stuff, bring it in, an extra pillow to
- 14:22Speaker 1: put under your knees, because that the couch bit that
- 14:24Speaker 1: they got, or just the couch in general, like that's
- 14:27Speaker 1: a that's a bit of a battle for the dad's
- 14:29Speaker 1: like you're gonna be where you know, you're gonna go
- 14:30Speaker 1: through physically too. Yeah, maybe not like them, but you
- 14:35Speaker 1: on that couch. That's a one on one game right there.
- 14:38Speaker 2: I've heard that. Uh one of my buddies was saying,
- 14:41Speaker 2: Pokemon like on the original Game Boys? What got him
- 14:44Speaker 2: through on those little soap elements? And I'm thinking to myself.
- 14:48Speaker 1: I'm just thinking I've been playing Pokemon like.
- 14:51Speaker 2: Well, I'm thinking to myself, get your ass over here, Jill,
- 14:55Speaker 2: look at catching this buble sore the charmers. I'm so
- 15:01Speaker 2: sorry what you say, nurse? What were you saying? Uh?
- 15:04Speaker 2: But I was I was like, what would her mom
- 15:07Speaker 2: think if she looked over and I have my game
- 15:09Speaker 2: boy with my little Pokemon blues sticking out of the back. Hey, Sherman,
- 15:13Speaker 2: do you mind grabbing these things?
- 15:15Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 15:15Speaker 1: Yeah, one second, I'm swimming at the bottom of the
- 15:17Speaker 1: island trying to get all the unlimited rare candy.
- 15:21Speaker 2: Great pool grateful.

- 16:37Speaker 1: Okay, so be on the lookout in July.
- 16:39Speaker 2: We've been having a lot of people asking, Hey, I

- 16:44Speaker 2: it's on the bus and channel. Right, always be on
- 16:47Speaker 2: the bus and channel.

- 17:04Speaker 1: Bwtv dot com. Go shop shop to you, drop shop
- 17:09Speaker 1: till you drop.
- 17:10Speaker 2: First first segment, I had motherfucker pulled up first, but
- 17:13Speaker 2: we can go in any order you want.
- 17:14Speaker 1: Listen, I'm down for a good motherfucked. It's coming. It's
- 17:16Speaker 1: been coming from my daughter. It's been coming from my daughter.
- 17:19Speaker 1: Ru Yeah, and it's a it's an ego shot. It's
- 17:25Speaker 1: it's her bedtime. She's in the she's three, and she's
- 17:29Speaker 1: gotten in this phase to where sometimes she enjoys bedtime
- 17:33Speaker 1: with dad dad, but recently it's mom or nothing. And
- 17:39Speaker 1: when I say mom or nothing, I'm talking an exorcism
- 17:42Speaker 1: style tantrum to where she's shaking, she's making noises I've
- 17:47Speaker 1: never heard her make before. When she cries. She's yelling
- 17:51Speaker 1: so loud that the next morning she wakes up and
- 17:54Speaker 1: she's got like the little Compton rasp from when she's
- 17:57Speaker 1: like lost her voice because she gets so upset if
- 18:00Speaker 1: Mama doesn't do bedtime. Because my wife and I one
- 18:03Speaker 1: of us take Scotty each night, the other takes Rue,
- 18:06Speaker 1: and then we just switch back and forth. And obviously
- 18:09Speaker 1: Scotty is kind of the easier one. She's sleeping through
- 18:11Speaker 1: the night, She goes down very easy, she knocks out,
- 18:15Speaker 1: she absolutely yugs her eight ounces of milk come on,
- 18:18Speaker 1: and she's out fairly quickly. So you get done her leering.
- 18:21Speaker 1: The other ones in the room with Rue like just
- 18:23Speaker 1: negotiating their ass off the entire time, to the point
- 18:25Speaker 1: where you have to think about waterboarding or if you're
- 18:27Speaker 1: gonna get her down for bed. But Rue has been
- 18:31Speaker 1: It's like she asks. I walk in the room, and
- 18:34Speaker 1: I start to feel uncomfortable because I'm like, man, I
- 18:36Speaker 1: hope she is down for dad to put her to
- 18:39Speaker 1: sleep tonight, you know what I mean? Yeah? And I
- 18:41Speaker 1: walk in and her first question like, hey, you know
- 18:43Speaker 1: who did bedtime last night? And I'm like, Mama did
- 18:46Speaker 1: bedtime last night, So who's doing bedtime tonight. And I'm like,
- 18:48Speaker 1: Dad is doing bedtime tonight, and it's just like her
- 18:51Speaker 1: head goes up, bro, and it's it's like she sees
- 18:55Speaker 1: it's like she sees like a substitute teacher that she hates,
- 18:58Speaker 1: and that substitute teacher takes their job way too seriously.
- 19:01Speaker 1: And it's like the energy just leaves the room.
- 19:04Speaker 2: And have y'all gotten a reason out of her yet?
- 19:07Speaker 1: Like she wants Mama, She wants mama. I need mama,
- 19:11Speaker 1: Mama to hug me. And I think it's just because
- 19:12Speaker 1: Mama's in the other room with Scotty and a little
- 19:15Speaker 1: bit of jealousy kind of sparks up. Okay, but it
- 19:17Speaker 1: wears my wife out because she's like, you know, it's
- 19:19Speaker 1: not like she's that much easier with Charro because Charles
- 19:23Speaker 1: gotta put her down. She wants to do a lot
- 19:24Speaker 1: of extra things when Charles's in the room. And because
- 19:28Speaker 1: you read her a bedtime story, like you get her
- 19:30Speaker 1: in her pjs, you read her a bedtime story, you
- 19:32Speaker 1: brush your hair, you brush your teeth, you get her
- 19:35Speaker 1: to the bed, then she usually wants you to do
- 19:37Speaker 1: something extra. Hey, Dad, that lay next to me, read
- 19:39Speaker 1: me another book and then dadda, can you sing to me?
- 19:43Speaker 1: Or Hey, I'm getting thirsty, and then you go down
- 19:45Speaker 1: and get water and you might bring it back up.
- 19:47Speaker 1: Dedad I'm getting hungry. And that's where you draw the line.
- 19:48Speaker 1: You're like, no, like, I know, we know what's happening
- 19:51Speaker 1: right now. We got to slow it down on pumping brakes.
- 19:53Speaker 1: But recently, bro, she's just been going batshit crazy anytime
- 19:58Speaker 1: I try to put her down for bed, and it's
- 20:01Speaker 1: like it's one of those shots to where it sucks
- 20:04Speaker 1: for me because I want to put her down. You've
- 20:06Speaker 1: got to have so much patience. It's like you're sitting
- 20:08Speaker 1: there and as she's screaming, hyperventilating, spazzing on the floor
- 20:14Speaker 1: and you just have to sit there in it because
- 20:17Speaker 1: anything I've tried doing it just works her up even more.
- 20:20Speaker 1: She doesn't want me to touch her, doesn't want me
- 20:22Speaker 1: to do this. Don't look at me, don't I'm not
- 20:24Speaker 1: looking at you. Then you catch yourself raising your voice
- 20:27Speaker 1: and you kind of just stop, and the moment like
- 20:28Speaker 1: freezes and this dog whistle noise is just in your
- 20:31Speaker 1: ear and you're like having a moment to where you're
- 20:33Speaker 1: just sitting there seeing your toddler just scream on the ground,
- 20:36Speaker 1: and you're just thinking, why is this so damn difficult?
- 20:39Speaker 1: But that is my my motherfucked moment is from my
- 20:42Speaker 1: daughter room because I feel like she's basically cussing me
- 20:45Speaker 1: out anytime I try to put her down for bed. Well.
- 20:48Speaker 2: I got to see Charroo do a little bit negotiating
- 20:52Speaker 2: with her at dad Combine, by the way, Yeah, and
- 20:56Speaker 2: I wanted to pick your brain on that strategy to
- 20:58Speaker 2: you and kind of if it fits with the bedtime
- 21:01Speaker 2: strategy as well of what how are you handling that screaming?
- 21:07Speaker 2: Like what is your tactic? Because what I saw Charro
- 21:11Speaker 2: do in the pool a jack was fake drowning and
- 21:16Speaker 2: the pool Rue was loving that and like save me Jago,
- 21:22Speaker 2: and she grabbed the hand and pull him out, and
- 21:24Speaker 2: they did it eight hundred times. I mean, Ru could
- 21:27Speaker 2: have done that all day. And finally Charles says, hey,
- 21:31Speaker 2: three more times and then we gotta go. And Rue
- 21:36Speaker 2: very quickly was like, no, mom, We're doing this a
- 21:39Speaker 2: million more times. I'm never getting out of the pool.
- 21:42Speaker 2: And Charo just stood there quite literally like George Bush
- 21:45Speaker 2: with the first pitch brick wall. Not afraid of terrorist.
- 21:48Speaker 2: I'm not afraid of terrors and said then how many
- 21:52Speaker 2: more times would you like?
- 21:53Speaker 3: Ru?
- 21:53Speaker 2: And I was like, I looked at Charroo because I
- 21:56Speaker 2: was like, I've never really seen a parent do that.
- 21:58Speaker 2: I was like, that's kind of cool. Let's see what
- 22:00Speaker 2: Reus has and really was like.
- 22:04Speaker 1: Five because they can't count that high. No, you can't
- 22:09Speaker 1: count that. I wanted you give me a number and
- 22:11Speaker 1: we'll hold you to You don't like three? Okay, what
- 22:13Speaker 1: can you go up to?
- 22:14Speaker 2: What do you want? Yeah, she's a vibe. Chre said
- 22:18Speaker 2: that sounds fair to do. Five. Yeah, where did that
- 22:22Speaker 2: come from? Is that just?
- 22:25Speaker 1: Yeah? I mean you're you're like you're playing with things
- 22:27Speaker 1: all the time because you're trying to like remain calm
- 22:30Speaker 1: and stay patient because you don't want to argue, especially
- 22:31Speaker 1: in front of other people. Like that's something that like
- 22:33Speaker 1: internally frustrates me. When I hear kind of like, you know,
- 22:37Speaker 1: acting up or starting to throw a little bit of
- 22:39Speaker 1: a fit or complaining a little too loud, It's like
- 22:42Speaker 1: I'll start to get triggered a little bit more than
- 22:44Speaker 1: I should because I'm just like, you know, you want
- 22:45Speaker 1: your kid to just be on good behavior in front
- 22:47Speaker 1: of everybody. Yeah, then you're also reminding yourself they're three,
- 22:50Speaker 1: a lot of sensory, a lot of like all their
- 22:52Speaker 1: senses are flared up right now. Yeah. Oh, but it's
- 22:56Speaker 1: just it's like it's something you just figure out, like
- 22:59Speaker 1: you'll do. But I know a bunch of parents do it.
- 23:01Speaker 1: Like if I'm trying to get Rude to eat or
- 23:04Speaker 1: finish her not even finish her dinner, but get her
- 23:06Speaker 1: to eat a few more bites, and you know she's
- 23:08Speaker 1: just not going to and you're just like you'll throw
- 23:10Speaker 1: out the number three, like, hey, just eat three more
- 23:12Speaker 1: bites and you're done, and you can be done. Yeah,
- 23:15Speaker 1: Or she'll talk about the cookie. Hey, you're not getting
- 23:17Speaker 1: a cookie whatsoever if you don't start eating. But then
- 23:20Speaker 1: when it gets to a point, hey three more bites
- 23:22Speaker 1: and you can get a piece of a cookie. And
- 23:24Speaker 1: she'll be like, how about two more bites? And so
- 23:26Speaker 1: I'll just say, you know what, if you take one
- 23:30Speaker 1: more bite, I'll let you do two more bites. Do
- 23:33Speaker 1: the math. Come on, we're at three. She'll be hellkay,
- 23:36Speaker 1: she'll leat a bite, I'll find two more bites and
- 23:39Speaker 1: two more bites and you got it. But it's it's
- 23:43Speaker 1: it's like you're trying to give them control. It's all
- 23:46Speaker 1: you're really trying to do. Like when you're thinking those
- 23:48Speaker 1: moments and you just know again you're you're you're negotiating
- 23:51Speaker 1: with the terrorists like they have no reason, they have
- 23:53Speaker 1: no their brain capacity isn't there to actually have a conversation.
- 23:56Speaker 1: They just want to be they want to feel independent,
- 23:58Speaker 1: they want to be in control. So if you like
- 24:00Speaker 1: say something they're kind of battling against it, you just
- 24:02Speaker 1: try to throw it to them, all right, like what
- 24:04Speaker 1: are your thoughts? What do you think? And knowing that
- 24:06Speaker 1: they can't count that high or on rus wanting to
- 24:08Speaker 1: scroll my phone and pick a song, and I'm just like, sweetheart,
- 24:10Speaker 1: you can't read, you can't read, You're not gonna pick
- 24:14Speaker 1: the right song.
- 24:16Speaker 2: I got it.
- 24:16Speaker 1: It's just the element of like giving them control in
- 24:18Speaker 1: that moment and when they say five, all right, great,
- 24:21Speaker 1: five more times and we'll go okay, We'll say, like, hey,
- 24:25Speaker 1: how many more minutes if she's watching TV? You know,
- 24:28Speaker 1: how many more minutes? You only got you know, one
- 24:30Speaker 1: more minute? Then we're gonna turn the TV off. And
- 24:32Speaker 1: knowing that she's not gonna like that. All right, how
- 24:34Speaker 1: many more minutes? She'd be back three more minutes? Like
- 24:35Speaker 1: all right, dad, else, set a time for three more minutes.
- 24:37Speaker 1: And then when it goes off, she gets up, she
- 24:39Speaker 1: turns off the TV really, or she'll tell me to
- 24:41Speaker 1: turn off. All right, dead a you turn it off,
- 24:43Speaker 1: and then you turn it off. But it's just like
- 24:44Speaker 1: it's like it's just giving them the illusion of control
- 24:49Speaker 1: when they're three years old. I don't know how it's
- 24:51Speaker 1: gonna work when they're four, five sixty seven. If your
- 24:53Speaker 1: parents are watching right now, let me know what I
- 24:55Speaker 1: need to look forward to, and maybe some tactics that
- 24:57Speaker 1: I can add and the survival kid in the book
- 24:59Speaker 1: bag for when those times come. But it's, dude, it's
- 25:03Speaker 1: like you just learn a whole new level of patience
- 25:06Speaker 1: and just being like, all right, what's a tool? What
- 25:08Speaker 1: question can I ask to make them feel like they
- 25:10Speaker 1: have control? Right now? Yeah?
- 25:12Speaker 2: We we did the old fashioned d Way Lebron meme
- 25:17Speaker 2: of on rue with the syrup.
- 25:21Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 25:22Speaker 2: When I said, well, we can give Scotty some syrup
- 25:24Speaker 2: and you said, no, Sky's too young, I said, oh, yeah,
- 25:27Speaker 2: that's right. Syrup's only for big girls. And then Rue
- 25:31Speaker 2: was like, Hey, I am kind of a big girl.
- 25:33Speaker 2: What the fuck do you have anything that makes sense?
- 25:40Speaker 1: Do you have any recent motherfucked moments? I know the
- 25:42Speaker 1: wife he's getting close, not saying she's agitated and uncomfortable,
- 25:45Speaker 1: which he is.
- 25:46Speaker 2: I don't have a big one. But yesterday I came
- 25:50Speaker 2: home and she was in full effect of like getting
- 25:54Speaker 2: the hospital and chef, do you mind cutting the air?
- 25:59Speaker 2: It's on issue at all, but it's going to be
- 26:01Speaker 2: on the very back behind the bus and it's going
- 26:04Speaker 2: to be up against the right wall. Yes, sir, we
- 26:08Speaker 2: forgot to cut.
- 26:09Speaker 1: The air and cut the air. It's alright, it happens.
- 26:11Speaker 2: We may even leave that in the edit a bus
- 26:14Speaker 2: because we're authentic here.
- 26:15Speaker 1: Yeah, but.
- 26:17Speaker 2: Yes, I came home. She's packing the bags for the
- 26:21Speaker 2: hospital stuff. I can tell she's been at it all day.
- 26:25Speaker 2: Her mind kind of runs. So she's a nurse. She's
- 26:29Speaker 2: aware of like things that can go wrong in pregnancy,
- 26:31Speaker 2: and that's one thing that we've been dealing with throughout
- 26:34Speaker 2: this pregnancy is she just kind of knows like if
- 26:37Speaker 2: she burps and feels weird when she burps, her brain
- 26:40Speaker 2: can all of a sudden go oh, that's you know, Carl,
- 26:45Speaker 2: Carl's blah blah blah itis, and that means that, you
- 26:48Speaker 2: know what I'm sayings just spirals into well, oh my gosh.
- 26:54Speaker 2: So she pitdles around the house and does like a
- 26:56Speaker 2: lot of hard work to kind of keep her mind busy.
- 26:59Speaker 2: I could tell she was in that zone. But I
- 27:03Speaker 2: know that one of her lease air things that I
- 27:05Speaker 2: do when I get home is just lay on the
- 27:07Speaker 2: couch while she's peddling. So I was like, at the least,
- 27:12Speaker 2: I will go join her in the nursery lay down
- 27:15Speaker 2: on my back because she doesn't want me folding her
- 27:17Speaker 2: clothes and Scarlet's clothes, all these cute things like she
- 27:19Speaker 2: wants to do that, but I'll go lay on my
- 27:22Speaker 2: back in the nursery while she's doing that. And dude,
- 27:25Speaker 2: I just what's that smell? Why are your shoes on
- 27:29Speaker 2: in here? Like what are you doing? Sherman? Do you
- 27:33Speaker 2: not put your head on that? I could just sell
- 27:36Speaker 2: that I was in the way, so I quickly took
- 27:40Speaker 2: my shoes off, tried to sit there for a while.
- 27:42Speaker 2: I have a really bad I'll pass gas and not
- 27:44Speaker 2: think about it. So I fared in. That was the
- 27:46Speaker 2: last straw. I got kicked out of the nursery. And
- 27:50Speaker 2: I could have done a better job. I could have
- 27:52Speaker 2: come in there and been more helpful. I was exhausted
- 27:54Speaker 2: after work. I was trying to put in like some
- 27:59Speaker 2: effort though of like hey, I will be next to
- 28:01Speaker 2: you and lay with you and talk with you and
- 28:03Speaker 2: make you laugh while you're doing this. But I think
- 28:06Speaker 2: I just went about it all wrong.
- 28:08Speaker 1: Yeah, nothing gives me more anxiety because I'm the same way.
- 28:11Speaker 1: I kind of like hitting the couch of laying down.
- 28:14Speaker 1: You get home, you just want to you just want
- 28:17Speaker 1: to check out for a second. And uh, anytime, especially
- 28:23Speaker 1: like after the kids go down and I'll go and
- 28:25Speaker 1: I'll be like laying on the couch and then say, Charles,
- 28:29Speaker 1: God done, putting done, Ruth. So she'll come down second.
- 28:31Speaker 1: In this situation, she'll come down. I might have a
- 28:35Speaker 1: show of ours plugged in. Right now, we're watching Stick
- 28:39Speaker 1: on Apple TV. Start that. It seems it's fun. I
- 28:43Speaker 1: like it a lot. It's a good show. It's a
- 28:45Speaker 1: good show. And I'll be down there laying and she'll
- 28:49Speaker 1: start pitling, you know what I mean, Like just start
- 28:51Speaker 1: cleaning a bunch of stuff up that I didn't know
- 28:52Speaker 1: we needed cleaned up. Yeah, And that's what gives me anxiety,
- 28:55Speaker 1: because I feel like she just stomps around a little harder,
- 28:58Speaker 1: like she's almost and this might not even be true.
- 29:00Speaker 1: It might even be in my own head a little harder.
- 29:03Speaker 1: She might release a couple sighs to where she knows
- 29:06Speaker 1: in her mind, I want him to feel that I'm
- 29:09Speaker 1: doing stuff right now and he's just sitting on his ass.
- 29:12Speaker 1: That's the anxiety that I get in my head.
- 29:14Speaker 2: Yeah, she's just hearing tiktoks and memes playing on your iPhone.
- 29:18Speaker 1: Yeah, Josh Payton breaking down the boys, maybe hear me
- 29:24Speaker 1: just give a chuckle. Oh, it's clear.
- 29:26Speaker 2: Apparently they're for the boys over there.
- 29:28Speaker 1: Yeah, so what are you doing? They're just checking emails.
- 29:31Speaker 1: That's funny. I hear Instagram open right now.
- 29:35Speaker 2: That Uh yeah, I mean that's that's basically it's not
- 29:38Speaker 2: a crazy motherfuck, But it is like I'm starting to
- 29:41Speaker 2: realize too, with like a baby on the way, I'm
- 29:44Speaker 2: going to have to hit like a three pm or
- 29:48Speaker 2: three point thirty coffee something to where like, yeah, I'm
- 29:53Speaker 2: not coming home, And my brain is instantly like I

- 30:02Speaker 2: even talk, because that's where I go to every single time.
- 30:05Speaker 2: I can tell you it rubs her the wrong way.
- 30:08Speaker 1: Yeah, you're gonna be you know, just dip. Yeah, that'll
- 30:12Speaker 1: blow up when the little one's here.

- 30:49Speaker 1: of our sponsors.
- 30:50Speaker 2: I did see in the comments a lot of people
- 30:53Speaker 2: were saying at the front end of the show.
- 30:55Speaker 1: Front end of the show, okay, if everybody feels that way,
- 30:59Speaker 1: we can do that moving forward. I like it, Okay,

- 32:47Speaker 1: Let's crack a cold one.
- 32:49Speaker 2: Let's crack a cold one? I cracked mid mid adread.
- 32:54Speaker 2: Do you want to take crack a cole on?
- 32:55Speaker 3: First?
- 32:56Speaker 1: Sure? Rue had her first ballet camp? Oh yes, so
- 33:02Speaker 1: cracking a call. Went to Rue's first ballet camp. It
- 33:05Speaker 1: was her first camp to where she's been going. She
- 33:07Speaker 1: went for a week long, three hours per day. You
- 33:11Speaker 1: drop her off and this is a solo camp, so
- 33:13Speaker 1: this is the first time we're dropping her off to
- 33:16Speaker 1: go do something without, like without involving us or the
- 33:19Speaker 1: nanny or somebody that she's like comfortable with, right, yeah,
- 33:22Speaker 1: her grandparents, whatever it is. She's on her own. I
- 33:24Speaker 1: feel like it took probably more of a toll on
- 33:27Speaker 1: us than it did Rue. I know when Charle first
- 33:29Speaker 1: brought it up, I was a little hesitant, like, all right,
- 33:31Speaker 1: you know, are we sure we want to do this,
- 33:33Speaker 1: and YadA, YadA, YadA, just because I just I don't know,
- 33:35Speaker 1: I just think of the the innocent, little three year old,
- 33:38Speaker 1: like if I feel like it's all the stuff that
- 33:41Speaker 1: parents go through and maybe not, uh, but you're just
- 33:44Speaker 1: you think about all the situations where they might feel
- 33:47Speaker 1: unsure and nervous or they might get picked on. I
- 33:49Speaker 1: don't know, all of these things are just in my
- 33:51Speaker 1: head and I just think of my sweet little girl. Yeah,
- 33:55Speaker 1: and that makes me sad to think of those situations.
- 33:59Speaker 1: So I felt like it was it took a bigger
- 34:01Speaker 1: toll on us then it did her. But dude, it's
- 34:06Speaker 1: it was awesome. The first day, I know, the drop
- 34:09Speaker 1: off was a struggle. She was very nervous. She was
- 34:12Speaker 1: very sad. Charle was telling me that. She was like,
- 34:14Speaker 1: you know, Mom, I don't want you to go YadA YadA. Yeah,
- 34:16Speaker 1: I'm kind of glad that I wasn't exactly there. I
- 34:18Speaker 1: got to do it at home and telling her like, hey,
- 34:21Speaker 1: go be great, go have fun, like do all this stuff,
- 34:23Speaker 1: make friends. You know you're saying all the things, dude,
- 34:26Speaker 1: and she went dude. And she went into the class.
- 34:31Speaker 1: Charle was leaving Ruthe struggled with that. And then after
- 34:35Speaker 1: the class when they went to pick her up, she
- 34:38Speaker 1: came running outside and it was like, Mom, I wasn't nervous,
- 34:40Speaker 1: I wasn't scared. I did it and all this stuff,
- 34:43Speaker 1: and she was just elated, bro. And just to know
- 34:45Speaker 1: that she had a great first day, like first experience, Yeah,
- 34:49Speaker 1: was just like it warmed the boy's heart.
- 34:51Speaker 2: Were you were you there on the pickup?
- 34:53Speaker 1: That was just trying because it was happening when we
- 34:55Speaker 1: were here at the shop. Got it like it was
- 34:57Speaker 1: going from like U nine to noon. So I got
- 35:02Speaker 1: to see her before we left the house, before we
- 35:04Speaker 1: departed from the house, and then I just I didn't
- 35:06Speaker 1: get to see her until I went home and then
- 35:08Speaker 1: I'm asking her all about it, and I'm like, show
- 35:10Speaker 1: me this stuff that you were learning, and she's like
- 35:12Speaker 1: showing me tough pike straddle and butterfly. And then as
- 35:16Speaker 1: she's staying on butterflies, she starts singing Butterfly. She's just
- 35:19Speaker 1: like start singing.
- 35:20Speaker 2: Because there's a song.
- 35:21Speaker 1: There's a song to help them remember. Yeah, And it
- 35:25Speaker 1: was cool, dude, But we went the she went the
- 35:27Speaker 1: entire week. She had a little like not recital, but
- 35:30Speaker 1: something that at like fifteen minutes they showed the parents
- 35:32Speaker 1: on the last day, like all the things that they've
- 35:34Speaker 1: been working on, like their jumps and leaves and tippy
- 35:37Speaker 1: toes everywhere and animals that they were kind of mimicking
- 35:40Speaker 1: and doing stuff with their rolls like rolling forward, tucking
- 35:43Speaker 1: their chin. Okay, then they had like a little dance
- 35:46Speaker 1: at the end, and it was awesome, man, it was awesome.
- 35:51Speaker 1: It's like one of those things where and you know,
- 35:53Speaker 1: you'll you'll obviously get there and I'm sure parents are
- 35:56Speaker 1: out there probably remembering their first time like dropping their
- 35:59Speaker 1: kidd off, but you even though it's like an uncomfortable
- 36:02Speaker 1: thing to do, you know, it's like good for them
- 36:04Speaker 1: because you're wanting to build like that independence you're wanting
- 36:07Speaker 1: to You're wanting them to start building social skills, build
- 36:12Speaker 1: some resilience on being uncomfortable, being scared, but then knowing
- 36:16Speaker 1: that they are, that they can do it, and then
- 36:18Speaker 1: they do do it. I'm not nervous, I wasn't scared
- 36:21Speaker 1: and all this stuff, and they start getting more confident
- 36:23Speaker 1: in themselves. But that's the that's my crack. A cold one.
- 36:27Speaker 1: Rue went to her first like summer camp, ballet camp
- 36:31Speaker 1: five days and it was, uh, it was cool.
- 36:34Speaker 2: Dude, that's sick. I'm in so much trouble with like
- 36:38Speaker 2: moments like that of like I wasn't scared, I wasn't nervous.
- 36:41Speaker 2: Just like hearing that, I'm like, oh dude, yeah, oh
- 36:46Speaker 2: my gosh.
- 36:46Speaker 1: Because you try to get them as much as you can,
- 36:50Speaker 1: like early talking about emotions, because when they're having their breakdown,
- 36:53Speaker 1: say you know, what are you feeling? What is this?
- 36:55Speaker 1: Why this? You know? And she'd be like, I'm sad,
- 36:57Speaker 1: and you know, kind of try to label all their emotions. Someone.
- 37:01Speaker 1: She was telling mom that I'm nervous, I don't want
- 37:03Speaker 1: you to leave, I'm scared, I'm all this stuff to
- 37:05Speaker 1: where as a parent, like I know, if I'm in
- 37:07Speaker 1: that situation, I'm just kind of thinking, like this is
- 37:09Speaker 1: extremely difficult. I kind of don't want to leave, like
- 37:12Speaker 1: let me just kind of stick around. And then you're like,
- 37:14Speaker 1: maybe I'll leave when she's not looking, and then you
- 37:16Speaker 1: also kind of feel bad or feel guilty that I'm
- 37:18Speaker 1: gonna sneak out and then she's gonna look and see
- 37:19Speaker 1: in the corner and you're not gonna be there, and
- 37:21Speaker 1: then maybe she might get scared even more straight.
- 37:23Speaker 2: I don't know, but I would feel like a boxing coach,
- 37:28Speaker 2: like in the corner with my boxer, Like but like
- 37:32Speaker 2: you were describing with Rue before she was leaving and
- 37:35Speaker 2: like go be great and stuff like that, like I'm
- 37:38Speaker 2: gonna have to hold back in those moments, yeah, because
- 37:40Speaker 2: I'm just thinking about that, and I'm like, oh my gosh, Yeah,
- 37:44Speaker 2: that's like.
- 37:45Speaker 1: It's wild when you're just experiencing all like the firsts,
- 37:49Speaker 1: you know what I mean, First time they say a
- 37:50Speaker 1: word or say dad, dad, first time they walk, first
- 37:54Speaker 1: time they tell you I love you, like all of
- 37:57Speaker 1: the first It's just it's always a different moment, moment
- 38:00Speaker 1: that you're excited about and then when you get past it,
- 38:03Speaker 1: you reflect on it makes you sad that they're growing
- 38:05Speaker 1: up and all those things in between.
- 38:07Speaker 2: Dude, how how was she sleeping that week? Were they
- 38:10Speaker 2: getting her real tired and she was just coming home
- 38:13Speaker 2: and passing.
- 38:13Speaker 1: She doesn't take naps anymore, and now she's she's out
- 38:15Speaker 1: of the nap game, which is like, you know, you're
- 38:17Speaker 1: trying to implement like quiet time because its not She'll
- 38:20Speaker 1: be on all day. You've been around rude, like she's
- 38:22Speaker 1: a spark plug, all the personality, a lot of independence,
- 38:25Speaker 1: real sassy or build some sass, and she just has
- 38:30Speaker 1: like she has so much fun with absolutely everything. She
- 38:33Speaker 1: wants to be playing all the time. We have an
- 38:36Speaker 1: we have a guest, Hey, how's it going. How are
- 38:40Speaker 1: we doing?
- 38:42Speaker 2: Oh with neutral?
- 38:43Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, that would be on the other side, Yes, sir,
- 38:47Speaker 1: sorry for that interruption in our program. We had a
- 38:50Speaker 1: we had a delivery man with a delivery man up front.
- 38:54Speaker 1: Crack a cold one.
- 38:55Speaker 2: Crack a cold one. There was one more thing I
- 38:58Speaker 2: was gonna say with oh yeah, yeah, we were in
- 39:00Speaker 2: the middle the first it's like, oh, it's their first
- 39:03Speaker 2: you know, I love you and all that, and it
- 39:07Speaker 2: was like her first time going to camp. Do you
- 39:09Speaker 2: think you'll do summer camps, like overnight summer camps with her?
- 39:13Speaker 1: Probably eventually, Okay, I don't think I did. For a
- 39:18Speaker 1: long time. It'd be like, you know, it was more
- 39:21Speaker 1: just like sport camps and stuff I didn't have. I
- 39:23Speaker 1: didn't do any of like those those summer camps where
- 39:26Speaker 1: you're like staying overnight or traveling out of state. Charo did.
- 39:28Speaker 1: So I feel like she probably will because Charlie experienced
- 39:32Speaker 1: that stuff and she's kind of brought it up before. Okay, Uh,
- 39:36Speaker 1: that'll be a whole different level. That's gonna be tough
- 39:39Speaker 1: on the boy. I feel like, yeah.
- 39:41Speaker 2: Because I know it'll be tough on me. Yeah, and
- 39:43Speaker 2: I don't even have one.
- 39:44Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, it'll be difficult. It'll be difficult, but it's like,
- 39:48Speaker 1: you know, it's just life, right, Yeah, I gotta learn
- 39:52Speaker 1: at some point. Yeah, gotta get them uncomfortable, Gotta get
- 39:57Speaker 1: us uncomfortables. Gonna happen too, I truly do.
- 40:01Speaker 2: I like I think about moments of I mean not
- 40:06Speaker 2: to make it about myself, but like TCU Baylor went
- 40:08Speaker 2: to triple overtime one year and I was like bawling
- 40:11Speaker 2: my eyes out at that football game for not out
- 40:14Speaker 2: of sadness, but just out of like the sheer emotion
- 40:16Speaker 2: from it. And then Jill's talking about like with me,
- 40:20Speaker 2: you're gonna be the best at ever, like at her
- 40:23Speaker 2: lit league, you know, games and stuff, and she wants
- 40:26Speaker 2: to play soccer like her dad did. And I started
- 40:28Speaker 2: tearing up right there. I was like, I'm gonna have
- 40:31Speaker 2: to wear sunglasses to these Lily League games. Yeah, just
- 40:33Speaker 2: be the piss off looking dad like far away and
- 40:36Speaker 2: you're like, man, that guy's looks so mean. But really
- 40:39Speaker 2: I'm just over there like fucking love my girl so much. Yeah,
- 40:42Speaker 2: oh my god, just crying the whole time.
- 40:44Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, watching her just hit her a little
- 40:47Speaker 1: performance at the end of her camp. When I was
- 40:49Speaker 1: over there earlier, I just already know. I'm just I'm
- 40:52Speaker 1: already like one of those dads I'm watching every kid go.
- 40:55Speaker 1: I'm like, you know, Woo's kind of got a little
- 40:57Speaker 1: edge on her here, and then you know what it
- 40:59Speaker 1: might be hopping all right, do it like the do
- 41:02Speaker 1: it like the like the horse of the diraft And
- 41:04Speaker 1: they're kind of like they're kind of like moving their arms.
- 41:06Speaker 1: R's not moving her arm. We gotta work on that
- 41:08Speaker 1: when we get home.
- 41:09Speaker 2: It will work on that.
- 41:10Speaker 1: Like, let's see her jump over this little pylon, Like
- 41:12Speaker 1: how they're all gonna look jumping over this little matt
- 41:14Speaker 1: and you see them all going, you see? All right?
- 41:16Speaker 1: And the first thing I want to do whenever it
- 41:17Speaker 1: gets done, I want to go right up to the
- 41:18Speaker 1: teacher and like, just give it to me straight that
- 41:20Speaker 1: she got a shot. She got a shot to go pro.
- 41:23Speaker 2: What's going on here?
- 41:24Speaker 1: Let's figure it out now when she's three years old
- 41:26Speaker 1: and with ballet, I've heard like Russia's pretty good.
- 41:29Speaker 2: Like we're gonna be sitting over to Russia. What does
- 41:31Speaker 2: this look like next?
- 41:32Speaker 1: Do you see when you look at rue out there?
- 41:33Speaker 1: I have my opinion, but I'll hold it until you
- 41:35Speaker 1: go first. But give it to me straight.
- 41:36Speaker 2: Hey, you go first, coach.
- 41:37Speaker 1: You see the calves on it, you see the legs
- 41:40Speaker 1: on her.
- 41:41Speaker 2: This will never be during practice. I just want you
- 41:43Speaker 2: to know I always come. I'll come to you after it.
- 41:45Speaker 2: That's your time. Yeah, I feel like this is our
- 41:47Speaker 2: time now after practice.
- 41:48Speaker 1: She's got good genetics. What'd you get that her moment?
- 41:52Speaker 1: I did play a few years in the NFL.
- 41:54Speaker 2: Oh my god, dude, the videos that you are a
- 41:57Speaker 2: post of Reu doing ballet. I love that you can
- 42:01Speaker 2: tell you get juiced about it.
- 42:02Speaker 1: Yeah, you just you love watching them just develop. Yeah,
- 42:06Speaker 1: you know what I mean, Like that, they're they're their
- 42:08Speaker 1: own little human being, they're their own little person. Yeah,
- 42:11Speaker 1: and they're just like doing it, you know what I'm saying.
- 42:13Speaker 2: Yes, it's fun, it's fun. My crack a cold one. Uh,
- 42:19Speaker 2: my crack a cold one is kind of quick too.
- 42:21Speaker 2: But it was like a really uh this is like
- 42:26Speaker 2: selfishly about me, but it was a really incredible moment
- 42:31Speaker 2: of we have the dad Combine this week. All the
- 42:34Speaker 2: dads of all the bust and boys, including Will and
- 42:37Speaker 2: Taylor's dads all fly in and we compete on like
- 42:41Speaker 2: multiple uh dad competitions. It's really lighthearted, it's really fun.
- 42:47Speaker 2: But it turns into this like incredibly wholesome day where
- 42:51Speaker 2: it's just a bunch of sons getting to hang out
- 42:52Speaker 2: with their dads and they're getting paid to do it,
- 42:55Speaker 2: which is nuts. My road in production has not been
- 43:01Speaker 2: a bumpy one, but it's just hard to make a
- 43:04Speaker 2: living and be in full time production if you're not
- 43:08Speaker 2: in some of the hotspots of like Atlanta, New York City, LA.
- 43:14Speaker 2: So it's just kind of a road less traveled. And
- 43:19Speaker 2: my dad was very much in the corporate world, and
- 43:23Speaker 2: so it wasn't like I never had my dad's blessing,
- 43:25Speaker 2: but it was always kind of like you could tell
- 43:30Speaker 2: that dad kind of second guest a lot of decisions
- 43:33Speaker 2: that I made.
- 43:34Speaker 1: Right, You're not going down the road that he went down,
- 43:36Speaker 1: because it seems like in your family some things are
- 43:39Speaker 1: not like generational to a tea, but it's kind of
- 43:41Speaker 1: a structure there. So I'm sure there's that shame or
- 43:45Speaker 1: you know, level of security of like, man, he's never
- 43:49Speaker 1: said and he's never given me a weird vibe, but
- 43:52Speaker 1: it's like, is he kind of disappointed that I'm not like, well.
- 43:55Speaker 2: I'm sure I'm gonna shift, yeah, And I'm sure on
- 43:57Speaker 2: his end that I didn't go of that path. He
- 43:59Speaker 2: may be thinking like is it because he doesn't like
- 44:02Speaker 2: me that he doesn't want to do this? Like why,
- 44:06Speaker 2: like where where did that come from? But he always
- 44:08Speaker 2: did see me like as a little kid in the
- 44:10Speaker 2: backyard doing I would make little Indiana Jones movies with
- 44:14Speaker 2: like all the neighbor kids, or like all my friends
- 44:16Speaker 2: would come over and we'd do like sketch comedy stuff
- 44:18Speaker 2: and put on YouTube, and so my parents were well
- 44:22Speaker 2: aware that this was something that interested me. But you
- 44:28Speaker 2: and Taylor gave me an opportunity here full time, an
- 44:31Speaker 2: incredible one that brought my wife and I halfway across
- 44:35Speaker 2: the nation. It was just a very big move. It
- 44:37Speaker 2: was a very big opportunity, and it was really kind
- 44:40Speaker 2: of the first time that my dad, like I could
- 44:43Speaker 2: really sense like how proud and excited he was. And
- 44:47Speaker 2: he pulled Will to the side at the Dad Combine
- 44:50Speaker 2: and it was in front of me, and he thanked
- 44:52Speaker 2: Will for giving me this opportunity specifically of the show
- 44:58Speaker 2: and hearing him him saying like, thank you for giving
- 45:01Speaker 2: him a shot, because we've been seeing it since, you know,
- 45:04Speaker 2: he was a little kid, and it just means the
- 45:07Speaker 2: world that somebody else saw it in him. Uh. And
- 45:10Speaker 2: he gave you like a little hug or like a
- 45:11Speaker 2: little dap or something, and then uh, you started waxing
- 45:15Speaker 2: poetic about me, which you did not have to do,
- 45:18Speaker 2: but that feels really good when your boss is saying
- 45:20Speaker 2: that to your dad. And it was honestly like a
- 45:23Speaker 2: top three Dad moment. It was really cool.
- 45:26Speaker 1: That's awesome. Man. Yeah. I know when he pulled me aside,
- 45:29Speaker 1: it was before everything started and he's like, I just
- 45:31Speaker 1: want to say this before everything gets going, and took
- 45:34Speaker 1: off his hat and everything. He did give me a
- 45:38Speaker 1: yeah conversation about yeah, being proud of you, yeah, and
- 45:43Speaker 1: you being with the boys.
- 45:45Speaker 2: It was just really cool, really selfish crack of coal one,
- 45:47Speaker 2: but like, man, it was a really good crack of
- 45:50Speaker 2: cold one that was just like, it's.
- 45:51Speaker 1: About your dad, that's what that's what we're here for.
- 45:53Speaker 1: This is before the Dad's podcast, man, because that day
- 45:55Speaker 1: was really cool. It's like, uh, I posted about it.
- 45:58Speaker 1: But it's essentially we've taken something that we do work
- 46:02Speaker 1: related and came up with this event. And it's not
- 46:05Speaker 1: like a very uber competitive thing. It's kind of just
- 46:08Speaker 1: like a reason for us to have our dads in
- 46:10Speaker 1: and hang out with our dads. I know last year
- 46:12Speaker 1: there wasn't as many of the dads here, and then
- 46:14Speaker 1: you kind of sit back and think about it. You're like,
- 46:16Speaker 1: let's get everybody's dad in the shop. If we can
- 46:18Speaker 1: here on this date, will fly him in And it's
- 46:21Speaker 1: essentially like us kicking in with our dads because we're like,
- 46:24Speaker 1: you know, doing competitions like packing coolers, taking out the trash,
- 46:27Speaker 1: a little trash relay, a fashion show for True Classic,
- 46:31Speaker 1: and you're doing trivia. So you're answering questions about you know,
- 46:34Speaker 1: who was your dad's favorite crush growing up or when
- 46:37Speaker 1: you know, when did he lose his virginity? When is
- 46:40Speaker 1: his birthday, what's his favorite color, what was his first job.
- 46:43Speaker 1: They're answering stuff about you on embarrassing moments. You're kind
- 46:46Speaker 1: of getting to relive, you know, stuff from your dad's past,
- 46:49Speaker 1: stuff from your childhood that they remember that you might
- 46:52Speaker 1: not remember. Yeah, and then you're kind of sitting there
- 46:54Speaker 1: at the end and now that a few of the
- 46:56Speaker 1: dads this is their second year in a row, just
- 46:58Speaker 1: to see kind of a rapport or relationship building and
- 47:01Speaker 1: knowing like the boys in the shop are all super tight.
- 47:04Speaker 1: Now seeing our dads get in the mix and start
- 47:06Speaker 1: to become tighter, just know that this is the date
- 47:08Speaker 1: every year that we're gonna have a dad combine. It's
- 47:11Speaker 1: really cool, man. Jelly Reel said it a long time
- 47:14Speaker 1: when we were just talking about busting with the boys,
- 47:15Speaker 1: you just talked about it being like a diary of
- 47:18Speaker 1: video diary or a video journal that we'll get to
- 47:20Speaker 1: look back on one day and listen to our conversations.
- 47:23Speaker 1: And this is a dark way of thinking about the
- 47:26Speaker 1: dad combine stuff, but thinking so far into the future
- 47:30Speaker 1: that one day when our dads are no longer here,
- 47:33Speaker 1: because that will be a real thing. We will have
- 47:36Speaker 1: these videos in these moments to look back on and
- 47:39Speaker 1: see us interacting with them when we're like thirty five,
- 47:41Speaker 1: versus like home videos of them us being little and
- 47:44Speaker 1: then being a new dad. It's like we have moments
- 47:46Speaker 1: throughout our childhood and our adult life to where we'll
- 47:50Speaker 1: be able to watch that, you know, with sadness and
- 47:52Speaker 1: happiness and everything else. But it's really cool that we'll
- 47:54Speaker 1: have all these things and if busting is no more right, yeah, yeah,
- 47:58Speaker 1: back on all the relationships that we I had all
- 48:00Speaker 1: the funny moments, but the dead combine was a lot
- 48:03Speaker 1: of fun.
- 48:04Speaker 2: It was a ton of fun.
- 48:05Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 48:05Speaker 2: The idea of being a grandfather one day by being
- 48:09Speaker 2: able to like pull up some of those videos of
- 48:11Speaker 2: just like me getting my head buzz for that bet
- 48:15Speaker 2: I lost, or like you know, showing.
- 48:17Speaker 1: Your grandkids showing their friends about stuff.
- 48:21Speaker 2: Yeah, but yes, that was our crack of cold one.
- 48:27Speaker 2: And also just a reminder for the six to oz
- 48:29Speaker 2: one of the dad's because we have had a few
- 48:33Speaker 2: that I've listened to where they were like I had
- 48:35Speaker 2: a good crack a cold one, or I had a
- 48:38Speaker 2: really good motherfucked love that if you got a dad
- 48:42Speaker 2: hack or a tool kit. Just another reminder. I know
- 48:44Speaker 2: we've said that before, like tell us your crack of
- 48:48Speaker 2: cold one too. It does not have to be a question.
- 48:51Speaker 2: And one of the ones this week, I believe it
- 48:53Speaker 2: is a crack of cold one and it is stellar
- 48:57Speaker 2: and just.
- 48:57Speaker 1: Off the whole six one the dads because in O
- 48:59Speaker 1: we're all through this and figuring out too. I'm trying
- 49:01Speaker 1: to think of the people that call in and you know,
- 49:05Speaker 1: they might give it another shot the next week and
- 49:08Speaker 1: they might say the same exact story. If there are
- 49:10Speaker 1: a bunch of voicemails that we hear that you think
- 49:12Speaker 1: could make it on the show, But that's not just
- 49:14Speaker 1: the ones that we selected for this show. You can
- 49:16Speaker 1: keep them in a row. We can probably keep them
- 49:18Speaker 1: in a rollodex. Put the headphones on.
- 49:20Speaker 2: No, no, you're fine. I was just saying, if like
- 49:22Speaker 2: the viewers could hear Chef, because I would love for
- 49:24Speaker 2: the viewers to hear that. And if they couldn't hear Chef,
- 49:28Speaker 2: that's intern Chef that's been helping us before the dads.
- 49:32Speaker 2: He has been compiling all these voicemails. We are taking
- 49:36Speaker 2: our job very seriously with the voicemails with the DMS.
- 49:40Speaker 2: Chef is a huge part of that and cycles through
- 49:44Speaker 2: all those call logs and listens to them and compiles
- 49:47Speaker 2: them and Sherman, would this be a good one because
- 49:50Speaker 2: we actually surprised Will with the call ins the actual
- 49:53Speaker 2: day of recording. Just know, those voicemails are being listen to.
- 49:58Speaker 2: Chef's taking his job really seriously, so we thank them
- 50:01Speaker 2: for that.
- 50:02Speaker 1: So keep calling trying to find ways to continue building
- 50:04Speaker 1: this community. Yeah. Absolutely, you can already just tell from
- 50:07Speaker 1: the comments in the first episode and just the dads
- 50:10Speaker 1: who are excited about it and everything else and the
- 50:12Speaker 1: messages that we were getting like it's gonna be it's
- 50:15Speaker 1: gonna be a lot of fun. And if you've made
- 50:16Speaker 1: it this far in the second episode, feel free to
- 50:19Speaker 1: share it. Feel free to share with your boy, to
- 50:22Speaker 1: share your fellow dad group chats. Feel free to share
- 50:24Speaker 1: it pass it around because people might not fully know,
- 50:27Speaker 1: you know what I mean. They might be subscribed to
- 50:28Speaker 1: the bust and YouTube channel yep, and they might have
- 50:31Speaker 1: saw the thumbnail and just think it's like a clip
- 50:33Speaker 1: or something.
- 50:33Speaker 2: And that was that was looking at the analytics. Jeremy
- 50:37Speaker 2: had pulled it up for me. That was two of
- 50:40Speaker 2: the main ways that people were actually seeing the episode
- 50:44Speaker 2: where people were sharing the dads were sharing it, and
- 50:46Speaker 2: then the dads were also looking up for the dads
- 50:49Speaker 2: on YouTube, which that's usually a really small percentage, but
- 50:53Speaker 2: there was a high percentage of our views just from
- 50:56Speaker 2: for the dads, which to me that feels like a
- 50:58Speaker 2: word of mouth things, so that it's really cool that
- 51:01Speaker 2: the dads are doing that. Our next segment, What are
- 51:05Speaker 2: the Odds, shout out FanDuel's sportsbook What are the Odds?
- 51:09Speaker 2: Just a reminder for you guys. This is where we
- 51:12Speaker 2: tell a story of like crazy timing, wild odds, or
- 51:15Speaker 2: just kind of those small little moments in life where
- 51:17Speaker 2: it's like, man, what are the odds of that? That's
- 51:19Speaker 2: so funny? What are the Odds? This week was also
- 51:24Speaker 2: at Dad Combine. This features my Dad and also features
- 51:29Speaker 2: Mitchell Carsley's dad. Mister Carsley was introducing himself to my dad,
- 51:35Speaker 2: and I guess he had overheard Papa Scherm and Bill
- 51:39Speaker 2: Compton talking a little bit about guns, and so he
- 51:42Speaker 2: holstered that about forty five minutes later.
- 51:45Speaker 1: Such a dad combo.
- 51:46Speaker 2: Oh yeah, dude. And by the way, I wish so
- 51:49Speaker 2: badly we had had a camera on Bill and Papa
- 51:52Speaker 2: shrm talking about their nozzler and then your dad's thirty
- 51:56Speaker 2: odd six and just going through Oh.
- 51:59Speaker 1: Dude, yeah, getting I can't remember right now. I can't
- 52:02Speaker 1: remember right office that Bill super nice to meet you.
- 52:04Speaker 1: I'm I'm I'm Sherman, Sherman's father.
- 52:07Speaker 2: They're both cueballs, both cue balls.
- 52:09Speaker 1: My dad, Oh you get the you get your hair
- 52:10Speaker 1: cut at the same spot. I do, you know, just
- 52:12Speaker 1: having a wholesome father exchange.
- 52:15Speaker 2: It was incredible. But yes, mister Carsley, just like perfection,
- 52:21Speaker 2: just comes up to my dad and is like, Sherman,
- 52:23Speaker 2: nice to meet you. I heard you do a little
- 52:26Speaker 2: bit of hunting. My Dad's like, I do, I do
- 52:29Speaker 2: a little bit of hunting. How about yourself. I heard
- 52:32Speaker 2: the very first part of the conversation, which shout out
- 52:36Speaker 2: to Mitch's daddy actually shot a black bear while he
- 52:39Speaker 2: was whitetail hunting. He was up in a tree stand
- 52:41Speaker 2: hunting some white tail, and there's an overlap in Pennsylvania
- 52:44Speaker 2: on a black bear and white tail. He had a
- 52:47Speaker 2: black bear come right behind his stand, just right up
- 52:51Speaker 2: by the tree, and he did one of these and
- 52:54Speaker 2: knocked it with one shot, which so shout out mister Carsley.
- 52:58Speaker 2: But he saw on that story well to a bunch
- 53:01Speaker 2: of Texans hearing that were like, you shot a bear,
- 53:04Speaker 2: Like that's not we don't have those opportunities in Texas, right.
- 53:08Speaker 2: I look over forty five minutes later, mister Carsley has
- 53:12Speaker 2: his sunglasses up here, he has his readers on the
- 53:15Speaker 2: bridge of his nose. My dad has his readers on
- 53:18Speaker 2: the bridge of his nose. And my dad's doing this
- 53:21Speaker 2: to mister Carsley, and just you see that. Blah blah blah.
- 53:25Speaker 2: They have the hear game cameras. They're showing game camera
- 53:27Speaker 2: pictures soon.
- 53:28Speaker 1: Echah.
- 53:28Speaker 2: They incredible, dude, I mean, you're just like you love
- 53:32Speaker 2: to look.
- 53:33Speaker 1: This one's going to be a big one. Hey come
- 53:35Speaker 1: fall time. This one is growing right here.
- 53:37Speaker 2: This non point we haven't so he came by one time. Yeah,
- 53:41Speaker 2: we haven't seen him since.
- 53:42Speaker 1: I haven't seen him since, and we haven't seen him either.
- 53:44Speaker 2: He's out there, he's out there, and we're waiting for
- 53:46Speaker 2: the rut because he fucking loves the dose. But if
- 53:49Speaker 2: they ain't rutting, he ain't come to the feeder.
- 53:51Speaker 1: Yeah, he's on them doors like wide on rice. Now,
- 53:53Speaker 1: I'm telling you.
- 53:54Speaker 2: But he won't your face till the rut.
- 53:56Speaker 1: Look at this, you know what. We didn't get him
- 53:57Speaker 1: in this camera, but look at this rub on this
- 53:59Speaker 1: tree and.
- 54:00Speaker 2: Wait, hold on, hold on, hold on, wait one second.
- 54:04Speaker 2: And they go through like thirty pictures but I can't.
- 54:08Speaker 2: They finally get the one picture where it's the you
- 54:10Speaker 2: know that back from behind like straight on that they
- 54:14Speaker 2: want to show you. Go see how outside the years
- 54:16Speaker 2: he is. Yeah, I mean, come on, I.
- 54:18Speaker 1: Remember that picture I was telling I was telling you
- 54:20Speaker 1: about earlier. I couldn't find it. My buddy sent it
- 54:22Speaker 1: to me. Check that out.
- 54:24Speaker 2: We finally got it. Yeah, if that's a twelve I
- 54:27Speaker 2: was talking with the drop time, that's that twil But dude,
- 54:30Speaker 2: it's just uh, it was phenomenal.
- 54:32Speaker 1: Accidentally open up another app damn it? How do we
- 54:35Speaker 1: get out of it.
- 54:38Speaker 2: I love seeing dad's photo Shout out Jill's stepdad Cody,
- 54:44Speaker 2: because he shows me a lot of game camera player
- 54:46Speaker 2: usure Sue. I love seeing his camera roll. There is
- 54:50Speaker 2: nothing better than a dad's camera roll.
- 54:52Speaker 1: Dude.
- 54:52Speaker 2: You'll just see, like when it's all the little images
- 54:55Speaker 2: and they're like scrolling, you see some of the stuff
- 54:57Speaker 2: that you takes pictures of or screenshot to be in
- 55:01Speaker 2: the mind of a dad.
- 55:02Speaker 1: To be in the mind of a dad, my dad
- 55:03Speaker 1: would just pull out the phone and just start taking
- 55:06Speaker 1: pictures of just be standing like right below them or
- 55:08Speaker 1: something doing something. I'm like, Dad, what are you doing?
- 55:10Speaker 1: Like she's playing on the ground, You're getting photos of
- 55:13Speaker 1: her back. I'll just be staying just like taking pictures
- 55:19Speaker 1: of it. Dad, Do you want a better shot?
- 55:22Speaker 2: If you come over here, you can see your face.
- 55:24Speaker 2: Why do I need to see your face? I know
- 55:26Speaker 2: what that looks like. Yeah, but yeah that's our What
- 55:30Speaker 2: are the odds? And then as far as like Survival
- 55:34Speaker 2: Kid and Dad Hacks, I feel like laying you drive
- 55:36Speaker 2: on those. As far as you having.
- 55:40Speaker 1: Kids Survival Kit and Dad Hack Survival Kid, I'll say
- 55:45Speaker 1: I think they both go hand in hand. For the
- 55:47Speaker 1: Dad hack and Survival Kid survival kit. My survival Kid
- 55:51Speaker 1: recommendation will be having sticker books. You'll be traveling with
- 55:56Speaker 1: a backpack around when you guys go out, maybe you're
- 55:58Speaker 1: traveling to a different state. May you're flying on the plane,
- 56:01Speaker 1: maybe you're in the car for a long time. Sticker
- 56:03Speaker 1: book's a big one. We have animal sticker books, we
- 56:05Speaker 1: have space sticker books, we have ocean sticker books. To
- 56:07Speaker 1: where it's like the glossy kind of carboard. You open
- 56:10Speaker 1: it up, the pages are thick and you have like
- 56:12Speaker 1: the stickers, like the glossy stickers that you can put on,
- 56:15Speaker 1: you can remove, you can play some around. Rue was
- 56:16Speaker 1: having you do it when we were at uh, what
- 56:19Speaker 1: was that place? Is the egg spot? Like egg?
- 56:22Speaker 2: Another broken egg?
- 56:23Speaker 1: Broken egg? Yeah? Yeah, yeah, another broken egg in Nashurville
- 56:26Speaker 1: shut out another broken egg? No free shutouts great breakfast. Yeah.
- 56:29Speaker 1: But you bring out the sticker book. When she's busier
- 56:31Speaker 1: board or trying to do stuff, or we're trying to
- 56:32Speaker 1: get being a conversation, you'll pull out the sticker book.
- 56:34Speaker 1: Haveter started doing it? She has you coming over? Where
- 56:36Speaker 1: should I put this sticker sticker book?
- 56:39Speaker 2: Fun too? I can shout it out as well. I
- 56:40Speaker 2: actually had a fun time with.
- 56:42Speaker 1: Yeah, sticker book is a that's a survival kid. That's
- 56:44Speaker 1: a little product recommendation because going into the dad hack
- 56:47Speaker 1: and this will be shouts to my wife. So this
- 56:49Speaker 1: is kind of be like a parahac dad Hack, mom
- 56:52Speaker 1: hack whatever. TV coupons because one thing that you battle
- 56:57Speaker 1: with when they have exposure, which they're gonna have to
- 57:01Speaker 1: the first screen right or they are starting to watch TV.
- 57:04Speaker 1: I know Rue had watched Miss Missus Rachel when she
- 57:07Speaker 1: was really little, and now she's in the phase to
- 57:09Speaker 1: where it's like a trash truck Little Bear, which was
- 57:14Speaker 1: a favorite of mind growing up at Bear. Yeah, Rue
- 57:17Speaker 1: loves Little Bear right now, so she wants to watch TV.
- 57:21Speaker 1: Like anytime I come home, something goes off in the
- 57:24Speaker 1: brain to where it's like, all right, we're getting close
- 57:26Speaker 1: to TV time because she won't She doesn't watch any
- 57:28Speaker 1: TV when the nannies in and we don't do iPads,
- 57:31Speaker 1: we don't do screens when we're traveling or anything like,
- 57:33Speaker 1: we'll listen to music. She might like listen to headphones
- 57:37Speaker 1: or her uncle Brad got her this thing. I forget
- 57:38Speaker 1: what it's called, but it like plays stories in the headphones.
- 57:41Speaker 1: They could be like stories about Frozen or Mawana.
- 57:43Speaker 2: That's awesome.
- 57:44Speaker 1: Yeah, it's just like they'll listen to stories. But if
- 57:46Speaker 1: they want like activities to do, we'll get out the
- 57:48Speaker 1: sticker book. We'll get out different drawing things where she
- 57:50Speaker 1: can draw and hit a button and it'll delete it.
- 57:52Speaker 1: Because we don't do it. We try not to do
- 57:55Speaker 1: a whole lot of screen time. But she gets to
- 57:57Speaker 1: watch TV. If you let them watch TV for two
- 58:00Speaker 1: long you know, they're sensory, like, you know, their emotions
- 58:03Speaker 1: get bigger. It's hard to put them down for bedtime. Yeah,
- 58:05Speaker 1: it really worked up because they're just watching on the screen.
- 58:07Speaker 1: It's a big time where their brain's developing. They're trying
- 58:10Speaker 1: to regulate their emotions. They watch if they have too
- 58:13Speaker 1: much screen time, like you know, there's so much researching
- 58:15Speaker 1: like data on and everything else. But we do our
- 58:18Speaker 1: best not to put a whole lot of screens in
- 58:20Speaker 1: front of her. So, my wife, she was watching Little
- 58:23Speaker 1: Bear and she likes to watch a Little Bear, And
- 58:24Speaker 1: then it got to where she was getting pretty pissed
- 58:27Speaker 1: off or agitated when we tell her, hey, you know,
- 58:30Speaker 1: it's time to turn the TV off time to start
- 58:31Speaker 1: winding down times, start getting ready for bed, or hey,
- 58:34Speaker 1: if it's Saturday morning or Sunday morning, we might not
- 58:36Speaker 1: we might do like Saturday morning cartoons or Sunday morning cartoons,
- 58:39Speaker 1: if we like make pancakes, or make like a breakfast,
- 58:41Speaker 1: like a family breakfast. And then it got to where,
- 58:44Speaker 1: you know, she'd start to get really fussier mad when
- 58:47Speaker 1: she had to turn off the when she had to
- 58:49Speaker 1: turn off the TV or pause it, or she wouldn't
- 58:51Speaker 1: eat her dinner. You had to like turn off all
- 58:53Speaker 1: the screens. And so my wife she made these u
- 58:56Speaker 1: this is the this is the parent hack. This is
- 58:58Speaker 1: the the dad hack. And she to my wife for this.
- 59:01Speaker 1: She made up these TV coupons, or she like cut
- 59:04Speaker 1: out construction paper, a little construction paper background, printed out
- 59:08Speaker 1: something on the computer, cut it out to where she
- 59:10Speaker 1: like taped them on each other to where they have
- 59:12Speaker 1: these fun little pictures. But each coupon represents thirty minutes
- 59:16Speaker 1: of TV time. To where she'll go up to your
- 59:19Speaker 1: walk up to her room. She'll take out a coupon
- 59:20Speaker 1: and put it in the can't use the coupon anymore.
- 59:22Speaker 1: And she only has like an allotted amount throughout the week,
- 59:25Speaker 1: but she'll have windows of thirty minutes to watch TV
- 59:27Speaker 1: if she wants to watch TV. Yeah, and that's the
- 59:31Speaker 1: hack because it helps it. We turn it into like
- 59:33Speaker 1: making it a currency. So she now has the choice.
- 59:36Speaker 1: She now has the ability to kind of think about
- 59:38Speaker 1: when she wants to use them. It gives her a
- 59:40Speaker 1: little bit of control. We were talking about giving them
- 59:42Speaker 1: control earlier. It gives them a little bit of responsibility
- 59:45Speaker 1: for you start showing them the costs, like, hey, once
- 59:48Speaker 1: you run out, these are gone for the week. You
- 59:50Speaker 1: might be able to use two in a day. Maybe
- 59:52Speaker 1: it's just one in a day, but you get to
- 59:53Speaker 1: kind of pick and choose when you use your coupons
- 59:56Speaker 1: because once they're gone, they're gone. You don't get any
- 59:58Speaker 1: more TV. So again, so point where she wants to
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: use like a second coupon in a day, and you're
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: kind of like trying to talk her out of it.
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: You're like, hey, if you use this coupon now, you
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: will be out for the weekend. Weekends are big, you
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: have a lot of downtime you could be watching TV. Yeah,
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: Saturday morning cartoons might not be Saturday Morning cartoons, So
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: it kind of gives them the freedom to start thinking
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: about like what their choices are, and it gives them
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: predictability to where, hey, they know they have coupons upstairs.
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: So if she comes down and she's like, Dad, I
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: want to watch a Little Bear and I'm like, well,
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: you did you use your coupons, She's like, I already
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: went upstairs and flipped it over to the other side.
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: So TV coupons highly recommend. That's the way we've kind
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: of tried to battle the screen time the screen time game,
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: because it's like once kids start looking at the screen
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: and seeing that all this, you know, all these different
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: things that they can watch on TV, especially now like
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: they don't have to watch commercials. If they get an
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: ad that comes across I want, you know, more Little Bear,
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: and it's like, dude, you got thirty seconds of this
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: ad that just popped on, Like you're gonna have to
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: you have no clue. We had to go We had
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: to fucking look at a TV guide. Yeah, try to
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: predict when our show was gonna be on and watch
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: oh yeah, with all the commercials now they can get
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: it instantly on demand, and so to kind of structure
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: that versus her being like I want to watch TV.
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: We're watching TV. Like, hey, bro, you've been watching TV
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: for like forty five minutes, it's time to turn off
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: the TV. And then they get all pissed off. It's like, bro,
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: I've kind of let you watch TV for a while,
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: Like how do you not get that this is a
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: it gets time to stop watching. So TV coupons is
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: how we've started to play that game. Because again, it's tough.
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: It's hard, especially when you're you know you can do
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: so I feel like it's more of a challenge for parents.
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: Like when you go out to a restaurant, you might
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: see a family sitting there and their kids got to
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: you know, you see them, you have they have a
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: screen or an iPad in front of them, they have
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: headphones on and then the parents are either in dinner
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: or they might be on their phones or whatever. It is.
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: Like charl and I were we've always said like we
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: don't you know, when people may comme up, we don't
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: want to be that family or we don't want to
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: do this and that. Like it's challenging because it gets
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: really hard when you travel or you're on the road
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: or you're out eating at a restaurant. You want them
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: to calm down, but it's I don't know, it's like
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: trying to get them like, hey, it's all good to
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: be bored. Do you want your sticker book? Do you
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: want to you know you want to pull out a book,
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: or do they have something to color with at the restaurant,
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: or let's just listen to this song or listen to
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: this podcast or listen to this book on audio for
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: traveling in the car. So the screen time will be
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: a battle that you'll come across in the future, and
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: there's no right or wrong way. That's just kind of
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: been our preference on how we're going to approach minimizing
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: as much as we can, because I know there are
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: some families that don't do any screen time. You're kind
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: of like, man, I wish we challenge ourselves to do
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: no screen time. Are there some families you see that
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: do do the screen time? You're thinking in those moments
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: of stress or annoyance, you're just like, man, I wish
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: I could just put something in front of him so
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: they just calm down right now. So there's no right
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: or wrong way. Not trying to say you're a bad
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: parent if you do a bunch of screen time. That
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: is just how we approach dealing with screen time with rue.
- 1:02:46Speaker 2: I love that philosophy. And that's actually one thing I've
- 1:02:50Speaker 2: heard been hearing a lot about like entering into your
- 1:02:52Speaker 2: fatherhood is I have a buddy that they were like,
- 1:02:55Speaker 2: we did no screen time, and then now that we're
- 1:02:57Speaker 2: like trying to watch movies with him, like he will
- 1:02:59Speaker 2: not sit down. He's like this is what are we doing?
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 1:03:03Speaker 2: Like why are we watching this? And they're almost like, well, damn,
- 1:03:06Speaker 2: I wish we had kind of introduced movies and TV
- 1:03:09Speaker 2: because like he's constantly just like why can't we just
- 1:03:12Speaker 2: go like kick the ball?
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: Right? Yeah? Yeah? And it's like, Buddy, I don't want
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: to go outside around it's a lot outside, like it's
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: just chilling here.
- 1:03:19Speaker 2: Or it's you know late at night, like we're kind
- 1:03:21Speaker 2: of winding.
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: Yeah, Sun's going down, Sun's going to sleep. For you
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: to go to sleep.
- 1:03:25Speaker 2: Yes.
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: And it kind of came too from you know, you
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: do pizza Friday and movie night. We'd be watching movies
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: and then she wants to watch Frozen over and over,
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: so it's like, hey, do you want to watch if
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: we have TV on it, it's like you watch a
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: couple of things a little bit because Little Bear will
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: be like, say twenty one minutes long, and they have
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: little segments of like seven minutes on one episode, seven
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: minutes on another inside of like one episode. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: you're trying to watch something short, but I want to
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: watch Frozen. It's like, bro, you can't watch a movie.
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: You can't watch an hour and a half of a movie.
- 1:03:51Speaker 2: That's more. That's more than Yeah. Yeah, yeah, you're gonna
- 1:03:54Speaker 2: need three coupons yeah to watch Frozen. Yeah yeah, So
- 1:03:57Speaker 2: does Pizza Friday not count? Pizza Friday doesn't.
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: We won't. We don't count it just because that's like
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: our it's like our time of like showing up as
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: a fan to kind of do like a family, our
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: weekly tradition per week. But she'll get like, I think
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: it's any it it's around like eight nine, ten, I
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: don't know. We give her in a lot of the
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: amount of coupons to where she can't double down on
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: every day. She can double down on a couple of days,
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: but all the rest of the day she has like
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: one coupon that she can use. And you try and
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: talk to her like, hey, you want to save these
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: for the end of the week. You want to say
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: it for the end of the week. She can't go
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: over to in a day, so we're like, you like,
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: build parameters, kind of make it like a currency so
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: they can start figuring out.
- 1:04:35Speaker 2: She's in charge of the flipping sibilities. Yeah, yeah, which
- 1:04:40Speaker 2: I feel like y'all are almost kind of setting an
- 1:04:42Speaker 2: opportunity there. I like for her to, oh yeah, hey,
- 1:04:46Speaker 2: flip it back over.
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: How'd she get it? Seems like she already used up
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: her coupons? Why does she have one in there? I
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: know I'm ready for that time. I'm ready for that
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: moment right now. She's innocent enough to where she like
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: she like gets the game. It's like her getting out
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: of bed. She doesn't really get out of bed until
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: we come up in room. I know some people hear
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: stories like we got to like tie the door shut
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: so they don't come out of the room down early
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: in the morning. Wi them into our bed. Yeah yeah,
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: uh so we haven't gotten there yet, but it's gonna
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: be like that first time she realizes she can get
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: out of bed and walk down to our room, and
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: then she's like, oh man, I can just leave room
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: in the if I wake up in the middle line,
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: just go down to mom and Dad's bed.
- 1:05:17Speaker 2: He yo, waffle, Yeah, where's with me?
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: But when my wife made it, I was like, are
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: you sure you want to let her do the flipping
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: because I can see where she just might be like,
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: all right, I only have one left, Like, let me
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: not flip it and see if my parents don't uh huh,
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: they don't catch me. But that's the that's the parent hack,
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: that's the survival kit stick her books, Dad Hack, I
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: love the coupons.
- 1:05:38Speaker 2: A bonus dad Hack to that is I had an
- 1:05:40Speaker 2: English teacher in high school that all of the media
- 1:05:43Speaker 2: that he would introduce to his firstborn son was all
- 1:05:47Speaker 2: the media that he grew up on. So like his
- 1:05:50Speaker 2: son's favorite movie at the age of six was like
- 1:05:53Speaker 2: Superman two from like nineteen sixty yeah, and his son
- 1:05:57Speaker 2: hadn't seen anything like outside to that and more modern
- 1:06:01Speaker 2: and stuff. So he's seeing the terrible effects of like
- 1:06:05Speaker 2: nineteen sixty one Hollywood, these practical effects, and he's thinking,
- 1:06:10Speaker 2: how's this dude flying? He how's Superman up in the
- 1:06:12Speaker 2: clouds right now?
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: This is crazy and it's too You come across things
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: where when you have like show recommendations for toddlers, because again,
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: we'll get a lot of our stuff, whether it be
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: the algorithm on Instagram or something coming across our face
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: to where there's things that get your senses going so much,
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: to where there's a lot of movement in the show,
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: or a lot of lights, a lot of seeing, a
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: lot of camera angles changing a lot to where it's like,
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: you know, their brain development that's happening, and it's like
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: counter productive for them, Like it's not healthy for them.
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: Oh okay, And you'll see that shows that we grew
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: up on are slow enough, like Little Bear being an example,
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: that are slow enough to where it's kind of like
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: one shot and it's just them like interacting. It's wild.
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: You'll come across all this stuff, yeah, towards like this
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: stuff we grew up on. It will be like, oh,
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: those are better things for their brain to consume because
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: all of the new rage stuff, there's a lot of
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: bound there's a lot of animation, a lot of lights,
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: a lot of flickering, a lot of you know, scenes
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: going from one to another really quick. Yes, which apparently,
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: I guess messes up the brain. I have no clue.
- 1:07:10Speaker 2: Now that makes sense.
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: Scientist.
- 1:07:12Speaker 2: I've seen enough Bluey to know that, like Blue is
- 1:07:15Speaker 2: like super fast paced, and just watching it, I remember
- 1:07:19Speaker 2: like two of the little kid dogs are like yelling
- 1:07:22Speaker 2: at the dad like they're upset that the dad's like
- 1:07:25Speaker 2: telling them it's time to go nine to night. I'm
- 1:07:26Speaker 2: just making up an example, but they're like talking back
- 1:07:28Speaker 2: to dad, and I'm like, well, shit, if I had
- 1:07:31Speaker 2: a little kid, I.
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: Don't want them like knowing that this is an option.
- 1:07:35Speaker 2: Yeah, like what in the world. Like I think back
- 1:07:38Speaker 2: to like Winnie the Pooh and like e or being
- 1:07:41Speaker 2: grumpy and you're like, oh, well, don't be or because
- 1:07:44Speaker 2: like Rabbit and Pooh are all like E or like
- 1:07:47Speaker 2: cheer up, buddy.
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: Yeah. The last list I saw Blue on was like
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: a moderate. It was like a moderate because when rou
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: was on, it was like miss Rachel Blue. You're kind
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: of learning about these shows and everything else because I
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: think Blue is a I think Blue He's awesome, Okay,
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: but yeah, it's interesting like learning about all of that stuff.
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: Like when you have a kid and you're trying to like,
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: you know, you want everybody's trying to do the best
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: that they can, and so you're trying to figure out, like,
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: you know, what would be good for them to watch?
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: What's unhealthy for them to watch? Like, oh, their brains developing?
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: What does that even mean? Yeah?
- 1:08:19Speaker 2: What can they even pick up from that? I'm such
- 1:08:21Speaker 2: a sinophile lover of movies that, like, I to myself,
- 1:08:26Speaker 2: I'm like, man, there's so many things I'm gonna want
- 1:08:28Speaker 2: my kid to watch that I'm like, I'm gonna have
- 1:08:30Speaker 2: to wait until they're you know, seventeen, eighteen nineteen or whatever.
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: Like, but you want to know a little the show is.
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: We would watch Chaos Theory by Jurassic Park. Oh yes,
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: and it essentially shows the dinosaurs. It shows all the stuff.
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: It shows moments right up to where before the human
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: basically gets killed or a dinosaur gets killed, Like it
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: might be a velociraptor, you know, dropping the nail on
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: a guy's head, but they'll show the voss raptor and
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: the nail will be up and then like as it's
- 1:09:01Speaker 1: gonna go down and kill the guy and you hear
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: the on the background, it'll just shift to a different
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: scene and you'll hear it, but you just won't see it. Yeah,
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: Rue and I were watching that at a pretty young
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: age and My wife was like, are you sure she
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: should be watching this? You know she's gonna you.
- 1:09:15Speaker 2: Can double down as a dad.
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: I'm thinking, this is your show. I love Jurassic part.
- 1:09:19Speaker 2: I like, we gotta be good kid.
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: Yeah, oh this is on Disney. This will be a
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: good show.
- 1:09:24Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: It's like the t Rex bus out there, you know,
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: busts through the gates and like yells, and I'm like
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: looking at roosaction and when she's just kind of like
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: looking at it and not getting too scared, I'm like,
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: all right, you know, yeah, maybe she can handle it,
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: so we it'd be something we would watch with mom
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: not around it first. And then she saw it, she's
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: like she's roupy. I don't know if I like, we're
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: watching this, sweetheart. I mean, she's been watching it. She
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: doesn't get too scared, like she's my dad, dad, Dad.
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: That keeps her safe. She's gonna come across.
- 1:09:48Speaker 2: It at some point then, I think, like also, like
- 1:09:52Speaker 2: I watched the movie The Patriot at like nine, I think,
- 1:09:55Speaker 2: so I'm like, oh my gosh, if I was watching
- 1:09:57Speaker 2: The Patriot at nine, I go back and watch that
- 1:09:59Speaker 2: now and I'm like, oh my god.
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, And like I can't wait till we get
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: her into like maybe Star Wars or something, because again
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: we're watching like and again like Blue, but what like
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: Miss Rachel will be on TV or Blue or the
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: really kid shows. You're kind of sitting there. It's like
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: you want to watch it with him, but you got
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: no skin in the game. Like Jurassic Park, Chaosterio, all
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: that stuff. I can I can sit there and watch
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: it with it. Oh yeah, you see that.
- 1:10:23Speaker 2: The only thing I was gonna say is we have
- 1:10:25Speaker 2: run long, So I was gonna kick it to the voicemail.
- 1:10:31Speaker 4: What's up, guys, big fan of the pod.
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: My name is Alex Caputo. I'm from New Jersey.
- 1:10:37Speaker 4: I am not currently a dad, but I am actually
- 1:10:39Speaker 4: going through the IVF process and I saw the pod
- 1:10:43Speaker 4: about Will Compton and his wife and it inspired me
- 1:10:46Speaker 4: to get inspired and call and call in to see
- 1:10:50Speaker 4: if you guys had some advice for me. A big
- 1:10:53Speaker 4: fan of the boys, big fan of you guys. I
- 1:10:55Speaker 4: would just love to be featured, just to kind of
- 1:10:58Speaker 4: chat with the boys and see what kind of inspiration
- 1:11:02Speaker 4: I can get from the dads and from you Sherham
- 1:11:07Speaker 4: as well. So again, like I said, shout out, no
- 1:11:11Speaker 4: free shout out, big fan of the boys, big fan
- 1:11:14Speaker 4: of the bus. Love what you guys are doing again.
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: My name is Alex Caputo.
- 1:11:18Speaker 4: I'm from Jersey, good old Jersey Italian boy here hopefully
- 1:11:22Speaker 4: to become a dad in about a year if this
- 1:11:24Speaker 4: IVF process goes well.
- 1:11:26Speaker 3: Love you boys much love.
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: Alex man shout out to you. Appreciate you calling in
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: love that you listen to the IVF podcast with my
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: wife and I. If you guys haven't seen that podcast,
- 1:11:37Speaker 1: it's on our bus and channel. My wife and I
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: did it for like a Mother's Day special where we
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: sat down and broke down a lot of the IVF
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: process and kind of the ups and downs of that
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: process because it is a it's an interesting one. It's
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: not an easy one on both the mom and the dad,
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: the wife and the husband, just because you don't know
- 1:11:58Speaker 1: what to prepare for. Your wife goes through a lot
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: of stuff physically. There's a lot of hormonal changes, a
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: lot of injections and hard things that they have to
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: do so that way their body's ready to conceive a child,
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: because pregnancy is a very hard thing to make happen.
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: You realize, like you think in high school you can
- 1:12:15Speaker 1: you knock somebody up, and it's as simple as that.
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: And then when you get married and you go through
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: some rough times, you go through some turbulence with your
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: wife on trying to get pregnant, and then you kind
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: of see why people are a little bit reserved when hey,
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: you asked the question, or you go somewhere you're asking
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: your friends that are newly married or something like hey,
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: when you guys thinking about kids, just because you have
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: no idea what those two could potentially be going through,
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: Like maybe they're having trouble getting pregnant, maybe they're in
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: the middle of an IVF process, and their fingers are
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: crossed that this works out because it's their last effort
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: to try and make something happen because doing it the
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: natural way didn't work, going through a couple other steps
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: they might have tried might not have worked, and they're
- 1:12:57Speaker 1: in this final step of being like, hey, maybe this
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: IVF process of work because it's not the cheapest thing
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: in the world. And you know, I do know of
- 1:13:06Speaker 1: some stories and situations with friends of mine to where
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: my wife and I, you look at our situation, even
- 1:13:12Speaker 1: though it's very hard to go through the IVF process
- 1:13:15Speaker 1: like you look back and you have perspective, and we
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: were all so lucky because it happened in the first round.
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: I have friends of mine, close friends of mine that
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: have went through multiple rounds of IVF to where they've
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: had the the embryos that are frozen and those not
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: might not work out every time they try to implant implant,
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: and then they might run out of those embryos to
- 1:13:34Speaker 1: where they have to do the IVF cycle again, or
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: they might not get they might not get a lot
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: of eggs in their first IVF process to where they
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: might only have one or two and neither of those
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: workouts to where they have to go through the IVF
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: process again. So if I had any advice, dude number one,
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: I wish you guys all the luck and health in
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: the world that this first one goes the way that
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: you guys wanted to, because even then, it's a very
- 1:13:58Speaker 1: hard process, and I just always anchored my emotion to
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: think that something could probably go wrong based on friends
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: that I've had that have had these processes in those
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: IVF those IVF journeys don't work out the first or
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: even second time, or even the third time. There's one
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: buddy of mine that's went through about four or five
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: cycles before they had their first one, and that is
- 1:14:20Speaker 1: very hard in trying on the marriage. It's very hard
- 1:14:23Speaker 1: in trying on the couple. And it's one of those
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: things to where you know, you look for ways to
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: be strong for your wife. Your wife's probably looking for
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: ways to be strong for you and herself. And sometimes
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: it's not about being strong, it's just about reconnecting and
- 1:14:38Speaker 1: finding your way back to each other through communication, empathy,
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: because there's just going to be a lot of stress
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: that that involves stress in IVF, along with all the
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: stress going on in your worlds individually at work, with
- 1:14:52Speaker 1: your friends, your parents, whatever it may.
- 1:14:55Speaker 2: Be, scheduling all those appointments around work if they're both working, Yeah.
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: Wondering if should I is there somebody to talk to
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: or should I bring it up? I know we kind
- 1:15:05Speaker 1: of don't want to talk about it too much because
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: our fingers are crossed. We want to get a little
- 1:15:08Speaker 1: bit farther down the road before we start to talk
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: about it. Hey, this worked out. You get a few
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: you get a weekend or a trimester or two in
- 1:15:15Speaker 1: you might could you know there could be a miscarriage
- 1:15:18Speaker 1: and then it's yeah, there's it's a lot, man. So
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: my advice would just be again, it's all about staying
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: connected and then when you start to feel like in
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: any part of the process you lose connection, it's just
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: about circling back and reconnecting with your wife. And again,
- 1:15:34Speaker 1: it's a it's a trying time. So uh, I wish
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: you guys luck and health and all of it. Good
- 1:15:41Speaker 1: luck because again, when it does happen, it is uh,
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: you know, it's always a miracle when there's when there's
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: a kid involved, and it works out for the couple
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: and it works out for for everything involved. But Alex
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: appreciate you calling in, bro. I know that was a
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: very long winded response because there's really no right.
- 1:15:58Speaker 2: Yes, that's a that's a whole hard one, dude. Yeah,
- 1:16:00Speaker 2: it's a hard one. There's the only thing we did
- 1:16:03Speaker 2: to prep Will this week with the call ins is
- 1:16:06Speaker 2: that we chef and I told them there was an
- 1:16:08Speaker 2: IVF call. Yeah, because that that is kind of a
- 1:16:11Speaker 2: that's a hard question to answer, dude.
- 1:16:13Speaker 1: Yeah, because there's you know, at the end of the day,
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: it's going to be trying. Yeah, it's gonna be very hard.
- 1:16:22Speaker 1: And even if it works and everything's going smooth. There's
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: just gonna be those moments you have with your wife
- 1:16:26Speaker 1: And again, listen to that episode with my wife and
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: I we talk about a lot of those low moments
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: and stuff that would go through my head that you
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: feel so much guilt and shame, like I don't even
- 1:16:35Speaker 1: want to bring this up because it doesn't seem like
- 1:16:38Speaker 1: it compares at all to what she's going through. Then
- 1:16:41Speaker 1: you start projecting back and forth on each other. Then
- 1:16:43Speaker 1: you you know, you realize, like you you're not even
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: talking about the right thing anymore. Yeah, so, yeah, there's
- 1:16:49Speaker 1: really not There's really not a right way to go
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: about it. It's one of those things. It's like you
- 1:16:54Speaker 1: just prepare for the worst and when that stuff starts
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: to kick in, it's just reminding yourself, how do I
- 1:16:59Speaker 1: find a way to to reconnect because she might be
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: having a hard time right now. If you the man,
- 1:17:03Speaker 1: if I'm having a hard time right now, how do
- 1:17:05Speaker 1: I communicate that in the way that has, you know,
- 1:17:08Speaker 1: empathy and understands the weight of the current situation going
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: on while just having the big picture in mind. Yeah,
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: that would be what I'd say, bro.
- 1:17:16Speaker 2: I think that's a great answer. I cannot I appreciate
- 1:17:20Speaker 2: Alex tossing my name in there to any advice. I
- 1:17:24Speaker 2: can't speak on it from a personal situation other than
- 1:17:29Speaker 2: have had a friend that has faced the same thing.
- 1:17:34Speaker 2: He opened up to me about it, and we just
- 1:17:37Speaker 2: had like one of the more incredible moments of our
- 1:17:40Speaker 2: friendship of just kind of and it was during the
- 1:17:43Speaker 2: time of Jill's pregnancy, so probably a hard conversation for
- 1:17:48Speaker 2: him to have, but just in that moment being able
- 1:17:51Speaker 2: to like hug him and we both are teary eyed
- 1:17:54Speaker 2: and I'm just like, you are going to be the
- 1:17:56Speaker 2: best at ever and I want it so bad for you,
- 1:18:00Speaker 2: and just him being able to open up about that.
- 1:18:04Speaker 2: So if anything, I think you had said the same
- 1:18:06Speaker 2: thing for Alex to just be able to communicate with
- 1:18:09Speaker 2: somebody through that time and then Dad's out there that
- 1:18:14Speaker 2: maybe you have friends that are facing that. I think
- 1:18:17Speaker 2: just when that conversation is presented to you, just being
- 1:18:20Speaker 2: super open to be able to hear your buddy out,
- 1:18:23Speaker 2: hear the fellow future dad out, potential future dad out,
- 1:18:27Speaker 2: and just be.
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: There for him. Because one thing, and that's a great
- 1:18:30Speaker 1: point too, because one thing that was surprising for me
- 1:18:32Speaker 1: when we were going through that process. You don't know
- 1:18:34Speaker 1: how much you can necessarily talk about or how much
- 1:18:36Speaker 1: you should talk about it, yeah, you know, respect to
- 1:18:38Speaker 1: how your wife feels, yes, or if it feels like
- 1:18:42Speaker 1: a bad or wrong thing to talk about. And what
- 1:18:46Speaker 1: would surprise me is people that I would bring it
- 1:18:49Speaker 1: up to dads they talked about, oh, we did IVF
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: as well. That's sick to where then you realize that, Okay,
- 1:18:58Speaker 1: you can't start to talk about it a little bit more.
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: You have a friend that you can lean on, because
- 1:19:02Speaker 1: again you have no clue how the journey's going to be,
- 1:19:06Speaker 1: because it can be heavy. As a buddy of mine,
- 1:19:09Speaker 1: they went through one IVF process or their first IVF process,
- 1:19:12Speaker 1: and they were pregnant, and I want to say they
- 1:19:15Speaker 1: had a miscarriage around like week eighteen or nineteen, which
- 1:19:18Speaker 1: was it's devastating. Yeah, you think everything's going smooth because.
- 1:19:21Speaker 2: They tell you once you get past week eight you're
- 1:19:23Speaker 2: guting right, right.
- 1:19:25Speaker 1: You hear all these different milestones, you feel a little
- 1:19:27Speaker 1: bit more comfortable to talk about it, the sex of
- 1:19:29Speaker 1: the child and everything else, and so you know when
- 1:19:33Speaker 1: the second round's coming in. They're currently pregnant, they're not right.
- 1:19:35Speaker 1: At the eighteen week mark, you just know everybody's like
- 1:19:38Speaker 1: fingers are crossed and you just you kind of put
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: your arm around them and you're just you're hoping for
- 1:19:42Speaker 1: the best, man, because you have no clue how all
- 1:19:44Speaker 1: of it can go, what people are feeling. But yeah, man,
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: definitely having somebody to lean on for sure.
- 1:19:52Speaker 2: Absolutely the last thing on Alex, and we'll get to
- 1:19:56Speaker 2: the next call. Alex was our very first voice.
- 1:19:58Speaker 3: Man. Hey, fellas, this is Colin. Colin from North Carolina.
- 1:20:07Speaker 3: It's about one ten East coast time. I'm whispering because
- 1:20:13Speaker 3: sometimes the fellas need to hear about a win. Today
- 1:20:20Speaker 3: this evening is the biggest W that I have had
- 1:20:25Speaker 3: in fatherhood in a very long time. Mom's first night
- 1:20:33Speaker 3: out after second baby. We got a two and a
- 1:20:39Speaker 3: half year old all boy Savage and a two month
- 1:20:44Speaker 3: year old all boy Hellion who just is hungry NonStop.
- 1:20:52Speaker 3: Mom decides she's going out. I got this. I think
- 1:20:58Speaker 3: that the boys took one look at mom leaving and
- 1:21:02Speaker 3: they saw it in my eyes. After work, you know what,
- 1:21:06Speaker 3: dad needs a W. We got to get a W
- 1:21:10Speaker 3: in the column for Dad. They rallied and was left
- 1:21:16Speaker 3: with a very strict milk schedule. I read it slightly
- 1:21:22Speaker 3: slightly at my own liberty. The toddler ate his first
- 1:21:28Speaker 3: full meal in weeks. We played baseball outside, the baby
- 1:21:35Speaker 3: slept everything. So as hard as these nights are because
- 1:21:41Speaker 3: we're in the trenches, all the other knights have sucked.
- 1:21:45Speaker 3: But guess what, sometimes you get these giant ws and
- 1:21:52Speaker 3: they're incredible. Keep doing what you're doing, Fellas. We love it,
- 1:21:56Speaker 3: absolutely love it, extremely motivating. Appreciate you.
- 1:21:59Speaker 2: Love you guys, calling from North Carolina, Colin.
- 1:22:05Speaker 1: I love the energy. I love the juice. You can
- 1:22:10Speaker 1: hear it in your voice. Did he say it was
- 1:22:13Speaker 1: one in the morning.
- 1:22:13Speaker 2: One in the morning that he called in, whispering.
- 1:22:16Speaker 1: Whispering, keeping the light. I thought, I was like, okay,
- 1:22:19Speaker 1: this is kind of he's low energy right now, like
- 1:22:21Speaker 1: is this a bad vibe? But hearing that W because
- 1:22:25Speaker 1: he's right man. The wife goes out for the first
- 1:22:28Speaker 1: time and you're ready to put on that as on
- 1:22:30Speaker 1: your chest and you're ready to take down everything in
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: the house. We're gonna eat a good meal. Hearing that
- 1:22:37Speaker 1: his kid ate for the first time in weeks, that
- 1:22:40Speaker 1: is a massive W. And you also learn. It's like
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: sometimes the kid whatever, whatever's going on in their brain,
- 1:22:48Speaker 1: it just it might run smoother if it's just you
- 1:22:51Speaker 1: and the kid. Because if you have both parents, you
- 1:22:53Speaker 1: got you know they're working you. They're working you the
- 1:22:56Speaker 1: entire time. And when you're solo and your kid eats
- 1:22:58Speaker 1: that meal all the way through and you're just thinking,
- 1:23:00Speaker 1: you're thinking to yourself, she's gonna come home and ask me,
- 1:23:04Speaker 1: how did how did everything go? Yeah, and you're gonna
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: have that slow pan to where you just look and
- 1:23:11Speaker 1: you're like, I crushed it. I crushed it. Buddy ate
- 1:23:17Speaker 1: his full meal, baby drink all of his bottles, slept
- 1:23:22Speaker 1: through the night. I don't know if he's sleeping through
- 1:23:23Speaker 1: the night yet. What he say two months old?
- 1:23:25Speaker 2: Yeah, two months old, but he said but he said.
- 1:23:27Speaker 1: Sleeping sleeping, So he's getting. What he's trying to tell
- 1:23:31Speaker 1: you is baby sleeping four hours at a time. Yeah,
- 1:23:35Speaker 1: I'm guessing three four hours at a time. Smooth sleeping
- 1:23:38Speaker 1: to where you fall asleep for a little bit, you
- 1:23:40Speaker 1: might wake up. You have your own little routine going on.
- 1:23:42Speaker 1: But that is a massive w for the dads.
- 1:23:46Speaker 2: Because I'm guessing at one am that would be he
- 1:23:49Speaker 2: probably puts it down at six or six thirty, it
- 1:23:52Speaker 2: woke up around twelve or twelve thirty ish possibly, and.
- 1:23:57Speaker 1: Say and then he fed, maybe he maybe the the
- 1:24:00Speaker 1: two month old had a bottle at seven, and you're thinking,
- 1:24:02Speaker 1: all right, I'm gonna be ready to go around eleven
- 1:24:04Speaker 1: and they might still be sleeping. Then stretch it out
- 1:24:06Speaker 1: to one o'clock.
- 1:24:07Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:24:08Speaker 1: Those are the small winds that you relish in because
- 1:24:12Speaker 1: it is you know you're in it when it's you
- 1:24:14Speaker 1: got the when you got the young one sleeping, schedules
- 1:24:17Speaker 1: off and that first time mom goes out on her own,
- 1:24:19Speaker 1: you want them to go out, But the moment they
- 1:24:21Speaker 1: walk out the door and it closes and the gates
- 1:24:22Speaker 1: are locked, you need your heart to turn black because
- 1:24:27Speaker 1: you don't know what you're about to be in for.
- 1:24:29Speaker 1: And when it goes smooth and when you crush it,
- 1:24:31Speaker 1: and there's something about when you're just on your own
- 1:24:34Speaker 1: and you're by yourself and you know nobody's coming to
- 1:24:36Speaker 1: save you that you just find a new gear, a
- 1:24:39Speaker 1: new level, and you get through the end of the
- 1:24:41Speaker 1: night or into bedtime and you think to yourself, yeah,
- 1:24:45Speaker 1: I can handle my shit. Oh, shut out Colin the
- 1:24:49Speaker 1: call in.
- 1:24:49Speaker 2: Bro and an added bonus to con and Alex uh
- 1:24:54Speaker 2: chef is going to reach out to them via six
- 1:24:56Speaker 2: on one the dads. He's gonna get their home address
- 1:24:58Speaker 2: and they're gonna get some free merch for being featured
- 1:25:01Speaker 2: on the show. For the dads, Let's go boys. If
- 1:25:04Speaker 2: your call gets featured on the show. Guys, you're gonna
- 1:25:06Speaker 2: get some lids, maybe a shirt. We haven't fully decided yet,
- 1:25:11Speaker 2: but you will get some free merch. Okay. We have
- 1:25:15Speaker 2: the topic quote or lesson of the week from Will Compton.
- 1:25:19Speaker 1: From will come, do you have one?
- 1:25:21Speaker 3: I do not?
- 1:25:23Speaker 2: Do you?
- 1:25:24Speaker 1: I mean last week it was kind of hard to
- 1:25:26Speaker 1: follow up. I feel like I have one. I got
- 1:25:32Speaker 1: a uh and.
- 1:25:33Speaker 2: Just really quick, do you want me to have some
- 1:25:37Speaker 2: topic quotes?
- 1:25:37Speaker 1: If one whether you're getting ready to be a father
- 1:25:41Speaker 1: or something you come across. It's kind of like, you know,
- 1:25:43Speaker 1: touch the old boys soul a little bit okay cool?
- 1:25:47Speaker 1: And it could be something small again topic quote or
- 1:25:49Speaker 1: lesson like it could be a quote like I don't
- 1:25:51Speaker 1: have one. I'm not necessarily prepared. I was thinking about
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: it and if I had any type of lesson in
- 1:25:58Speaker 1: it I hate coming off like any of it is
- 1:26:02Speaker 1: is advice, because you're going to get a lot of
- 1:26:05Speaker 1: unsolicited advice. And I want to say the lesson is
- 1:26:08Speaker 1: around that parent guilt or that dad guilt that you
- 1:26:12Speaker 1: might have when you have a newborn or you have
- 1:26:15Speaker 1: a toddler, you have a kid, and there are a
- 1:26:18Speaker 1: lot of things that come your way. I know one
- 1:26:20Speaker 1: thing that I've really learned over the past year that
- 1:26:23Speaker 1: I try to put into practice is the power of no,
- 1:26:26Speaker 1: because there's going to be and a lot of guys,
- 1:26:28Speaker 1: you know, a lot of people don't necessarily have the
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: option of opting out of something with work or opting
- 1:26:33Speaker 1: out of an opportunity that they have to go and chase,
- 1:26:37Speaker 1: because they have to do what they have to do
- 1:26:38Speaker 1: to make sure they take care of everything at home
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: and be that steady rock at home. And I think
- 1:26:44Speaker 1: for me, it was like there's always some like as
- 1:26:47Speaker 1: you're going through this journey of everything and all the
- 1:26:51Speaker 1: opportunities and things that we get to do that busting
- 1:26:53Speaker 1: gets to do, you can say yes to a lot
- 1:26:56Speaker 1: of things because we kind of create our own It's
- 1:26:59Speaker 1: like we get to kind of build out what our
- 1:27:01Speaker 1: future and everything looks like, so there's always opportunities coming
- 1:27:04Speaker 1: our way, and we can say yes to everything, and
- 1:27:06Speaker 1: you get spread so thin that you start to have
- 1:27:08Speaker 1: the guilt when you're traveling or you're doing things that
- 1:27:11Speaker 1: kind of pulls you away from the family. And I
- 1:27:13Speaker 1: know that ways on people, and they're you know, guys
- 1:27:16Speaker 1: kind of put you know the proverbial'll put their arm
- 1:27:18Speaker 1: around you, or they try and tell you things that like, hey,
- 1:27:21Speaker 1: you know that your kids won't remember, or you have
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: all of those little things that they're probably just trying
- 1:27:27Speaker 1: to help you justify whatever your decision is. It's like,
- 1:27:30Speaker 1: you know, before they turn whenever their memory starts, let's
- 1:27:32Speaker 1: just say it's five years old. It's like, hey, they
- 1:27:35Speaker 1: won't remember if you didn't make it to this dance
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: recital or you don't make it to I'm not gonna say,
- 1:27:40Speaker 1: like their first birthday or like a birthday party, or
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: there's something going on where the birthday party might be happening,
- 1:27:44Speaker 1: but you might have a massive opportunity that you're kind
- 1:27:47Speaker 1: of torn between the two. And I've kind of like
- 1:27:51Speaker 1: resisted when I hear people say like, hey, they won't
- 1:27:55Speaker 1: remember X, Y and Z, because the way I've like
- 1:27:57Speaker 1: flipped it in my mind and the way I thought
- 1:27:58Speaker 1: about it. And it's funny because I was talking through
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: this with somebody whenever I was when I was on
- 1:28:04Speaker 1: some vitamins and minerals, and so you know, you're thinking
- 1:28:07Speaker 1: of the entire universe at that point. And what I
- 1:28:10Speaker 1: kind of thought to myself or started to tell myself,
- 1:28:14Speaker 1: is if they don't remember up until again, let's call
- 1:28:17Speaker 1: it five years old. Yeah, and when they grow up,
- 1:28:20Speaker 1: they're not going to remember all of these years, these
- 1:28:23Speaker 1: early years, because you know, how much do we even remember.
- 1:28:26Speaker 1: We don't remember a whole lot, not only flashes or
- 1:28:28Speaker 1: things or moments, or it could be bad moments that
- 1:28:31Speaker 1: you might remember. But I've just kind of thought to
- 1:28:33Speaker 1: myself that the way I flip in my head that
- 1:28:37Speaker 1: if they're not going to remember, we do remember, Like
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: our kids are here. These first years of their life
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: are for us to enjoy, Like it's for us to
- 1:28:48Speaker 1: kind of look at the family we've gotten to create
- 1:28:52Speaker 1: and enjoy these moments of time. Even though they might
- 1:28:55Speaker 1: not remember it, we get to remember it, and they're here,
- 1:28:57Speaker 1: they're on this earth right now for us to spend
- 1:29:00Speaker 1: as much time with them as we can or to
- 1:29:02Speaker 1: enjoy them as much as possible. And that's the approach
- 1:29:04Speaker 1: I've always I've tried exercising and tried to be intentional
- 1:29:09Speaker 1: with when I look at whether it's work opportunities or
- 1:29:13Speaker 1: new opportunities, is is this going to take away from
- 1:29:17Speaker 1: the family time? And if so, like how much of it?
- 1:29:20Speaker 1: How many bedtimes am I willing to miss? How many
- 1:29:22Speaker 1: mornings am I willing to miss? And when you have
- 1:29:25Speaker 1: that boundary for yourself, it helps kind of separate you
- 1:29:27Speaker 1: to where you have you learn that power of no
- 1:29:29Speaker 1: of if it doesn't fit in this schedule, I'm going
- 1:29:32Speaker 1: to say no to it because you want to prioritize
- 1:29:34Speaker 1: and be intentional with wanting to be around because again,
- 1:29:38Speaker 1: they might not remember, but you do remember, and they're
- 1:29:41Speaker 1: here now, especially in them young years man when they
- 1:29:44Speaker 1: probably won't have a whole lot of memory of it,
- 1:29:46Speaker 1: but things that we can capture on video, they're here
- 1:29:49Speaker 1: for us to enjoy. So that would kind of be
- 1:29:52Speaker 1: I guess, my lesson or things that I've kind of
- 1:29:54Speaker 1: thought about when thinking about them being really young and
- 1:29:56Speaker 1: being in a position to where again, we can say
- 1:29:58Speaker 1: yes to a lot of things and we have the
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: opportunity and we're awarded a lot of a lot of
- 1:30:02Speaker 1: new things to do and be on the road a
- 1:30:04Speaker 1: lot or travel a lot, and you make as much
- 1:30:06Speaker 1: money as possible and do all of these things. So
- 1:30:10Speaker 1: it's something that I've tried, like sitting with myself and
- 1:30:13Speaker 1: having certain boundaries to where if it doesn't fit in
- 1:30:17Speaker 1: these priorities and in this timeframe, then I will say
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: no to it with the idea of I need to
- 1:30:23Speaker 1: enjoy them as much as possible right now, because there's
- 1:30:26Speaker 1: going to come a moment to where they're not crawling anymore,
- 1:30:30Speaker 1: they're not stationary anymore. Yeah, you know, I wasn't gonna
- 1:30:33Speaker 1: say not walking. They'll always be walking, but the last
- 1:30:35Speaker 1: time that you'll be picking them up before it they
- 1:30:37Speaker 1: don't want you to pick them up anymore, or you
- 1:30:39Speaker 1: hold their hand, or all these little things that will
- 1:30:42Speaker 1: be in the past. Yeah, And just to add on
- 1:30:46Speaker 1: to it, it's like, if they don't remember up until five,
- 1:30:50Speaker 1: when they're in between five and ten, their foundation to
- 1:30:53Speaker 1: be five and ten is still going to be built
- 1:30:55Speaker 1: on what they were from one to five. You know
- 1:30:58Speaker 1: what I'm saying. Maybe that doesn't make sense, No, it does.
- 1:31:02Speaker 1: But how you show up now is still going to
- 1:31:04Speaker 1: be the pattern or.
- 1:31:05Speaker 2: The It's not like the all of a sudden you
- 1:31:08Speaker 2: just become the person that you are at six years old,
- 1:31:10Speaker 2: and it's just right right right, I know exactly what
- 1:31:14Speaker 2: you mean.
- 1:31:14Speaker 1: So that would be.
- 1:31:17Speaker 2: Yeah, I love that lasson. I just with Rue like
- 1:31:23Speaker 2: and Scotty as well. I put together a clip today
- 1:31:27Speaker 2: of Will that like featured a ton of Will's Instagram posts,
- 1:31:31Speaker 2: and in those posts, it was like crazy just seeing
- 1:31:35Speaker 2: like ruin the photograph because I'm like really looking at
- 1:31:38Speaker 2: the footage and making sure it all looks good, and
- 1:31:41Speaker 2: I'm like, man, she's grown fast. Seeing Scotty at the
- 1:31:46Speaker 2: dad combine her hair from when we shot that trailer
- 1:31:49Speaker 2: to now, yeah, is so much longer, and that felt
- 1:31:53Speaker 2: like last week. So it's like and those aren't even
- 1:31:55Speaker 2: my kids. And then also the fact of that was
- 1:31:59Speaker 2: another thought that went through my head while I was
- 1:32:01Speaker 2: putting that video together, is I was like, man, Will
- 1:32:04Speaker 2: is doing a killer job on the social media stuff,
- 1:32:07Speaker 2: just from a selfish standpoint of you being able to
- 1:32:11Speaker 2: go back and see all those pictures and like.
- 1:32:14Speaker 1: Dude, we you don't know how many times, like when
- 1:32:16Speaker 1: Mom's out of town and she's like she really struggles
- 1:32:19Speaker 1: if I'm home along with the kids and I have
- 1:32:21Speaker 1: them for like a weekend or having like four or
- 1:32:22Speaker 1: five days whatever it is, Yeah, and she starts to
- 1:32:26Speaker 1: be upset that mom's at home. It's like I can
- 1:32:28Speaker 1: just pull up Instagram. I'll pull up like Charles, like
- 1:32:30Speaker 1: you want to see videos of my mind. We can
- 1:32:32Speaker 1: just go into our reels and kind of like watch
- 1:32:35Speaker 1: old videos and that calm her down and she can
- 1:32:38Speaker 1: see like old memories. But dude, I sometimes it takes
- 1:32:42Speaker 1: a while, but I feel like it is. It's like
- 1:32:44Speaker 1: one of those things that when those moments are happening,
- 1:32:47Speaker 1: it's like, man, I'm glad I like made a video
- 1:32:48Speaker 1: or I made a post about X, Y and Z
- 1:32:50Speaker 1: because you can like scroll back and see a lot
- 1:32:52Speaker 1: of old memories.
- 1:32:53Speaker 2: Yes, dude, and at the exact same thing you're saying
- 1:32:57Speaker 2: about the dad combine and just busting in general what
- 1:33:00Speaker 2: jelly Roll said, Like you're just making a photo photo
- 1:33:03Speaker 2: video journal. Yeah, which is so cool, dude, like having
- 1:33:09Speaker 2: a Facebook being like our generation.
- 1:33:11Speaker 1: How old are you? I am thirty five?
- 1:33:13Speaker 2: Thirty five, okay, so I'm three years younger than you.
- 1:33:15Speaker 2: Having Facebook when we did, Yeah, you were probably like
- 1:33:18Speaker 2: a sophomore in high school or something. Yeah, yeah, I
- 1:33:22Speaker 2: was in seventh grade, I believe, And so like having
- 1:33:24Speaker 2: that is so freaking fun, dude. And again, the thought
- 1:33:27Speaker 2: of being a grandfather and being able to pull up
- 1:33:29Speaker 2: your Facebook and be like look at this, dudeeah like
- 1:33:33Speaker 2: scroll thousand. Yes. A quick lesson for this would be
- 1:33:39Speaker 2: for future dads or guys that are thinking about being
- 1:33:42Speaker 2: a dad. This was a quote from Jill's stepdad that
- 1:33:48Speaker 2: I thought was really great, and he was talking about
- 1:33:51Speaker 2: like my professional career more so than fatherhood. But I
- 1:33:54Speaker 2: think it's a very applicable to future dads that are like,
- 1:33:58Speaker 2: am I ready for this? Can I do this? Will
- 1:34:01Speaker 2: I be a good dad? One, the fact that you're
- 1:34:03Speaker 2: asking yourself that question is a good start. It means
- 1:34:07Speaker 2: you can, So I would say the fact that you're
- 1:34:10Speaker 2: asking that that's a good sign. Second thing i'd say
- 1:34:13Speaker 2: is everything in your life to this point has been
- 1:34:17Speaker 2: getting you ready for something, whatever that next step is,
- 1:34:22Speaker 2: and being able to eternalize all the what is it
- 1:34:29Speaker 2: called When you have done something, you're gaining uh, perspective, perspective,
- 1:34:35Speaker 2: You're gaining what does the wisdom. What does it intern
- 1:34:39Speaker 2: get whenever they work experience experience, You're getting experience. Well done,
- 1:34:45Speaker 2: intern chef. You're gaining experience for all these things throughout
- 1:34:50Speaker 2: your life. So everything that you have gone through throughout
- 1:34:53Speaker 2: your life, all the happy stuff, all the hard stuff,
- 1:34:56Speaker 2: all the challenging stuff as making you the person, the
- 1:34:59Speaker 2: man that you are today. And you can learn from
- 1:35:04Speaker 2: everything that you've gone through, whether it's a mistake, whether
- 1:35:07Speaker 2: it's good things that will help prepare you for what
- 1:35:10Speaker 2: is to come. And with fatherhood to apply that. I
- 1:35:14Speaker 2: know nothing about fatherhood, but as I'm getting closer and
- 1:35:17Speaker 2: closer to July second, the induction date, there are moments
- 1:35:23Speaker 2: where it's like lightning has struck my brain and I
- 1:35:26Speaker 2: remember something that my dad always did, or I remember
- 1:35:31Speaker 2: something that really upset me as a kid, specifically with
- 1:35:35Speaker 2: ru in the pool, when Chara was like sitting there
- 1:35:38Speaker 2: and having that conversation with her and like realizing like, yeah,
- 1:35:44Speaker 2: I probably would have wanted to like talk something out
- 1:35:47Speaker 2: instead of you know, having somebody yell at me or
- 1:35:51Speaker 2: argue with me at that moment. So life is ever changing.
- 1:35:58Speaker 2: There's always going to be things coming at you that
- 1:36:00Speaker 2: you feel like you won't be ready for it, but
- 1:36:02Speaker 2: just be able to use your past as a stepping
- 1:36:05Speaker 2: stool into whatever you're going into. I guess would be
- 1:36:08Speaker 2: my lesson of the week.
- 1:36:10Speaker 1: Yeah, because you know, there's a lot of fears and
- 1:36:14Speaker 1: doubt and things on thinking if you can do it
- 1:36:17Speaker 1: or not? Right yes, and whether or not none of
- 1:36:19Speaker 1: us know how. Nobody knows how to be you know,
- 1:36:22Speaker 1: a perfect like a perfect dad. That's that's an impossible
- 1:36:25Speaker 1: expectation to have. And people might feel that way because
- 1:36:28Speaker 1: maybe they had a lot of bad experiences in their
- 1:36:31Speaker 1: childhood or in their life to where they might have
- 1:36:33Speaker 1: had doubt. But I would say a way to use
- 1:36:36Speaker 1: that is you know what, you don't want it to
- 1:36:37Speaker 1: look like, you know what I mean. You know that
- 1:36:40Speaker 1: you don't want to be this person, or maybe one
- 1:36:43Speaker 1: of your parents were this way or your dad was
- 1:36:44Speaker 1: this way, and you feel like it might be generational
- 1:36:47Speaker 1: and it's an opportunity for you. I know people get
- 1:36:50Speaker 1: motivated by breaking generational curses. But you know, even if
- 1:36:54Speaker 1: you don't have all of the best experiences, are the
- 1:36:56Speaker 1: best memories that you're thinking, like how I'm going to
- 1:36:58Speaker 1: do this? Like maybe you have you had a rough
- 1:37:00Speaker 1: one and you know what you don't want it to
- 1:37:02Speaker 1: look like? And that right there is a great starting
- 1:37:04Speaker 1: point on how you don't you know what you don't
- 1:37:06Speaker 1: want it to look like. I love that though. That
- 1:37:10Speaker 1: was good man. Yeah, yeah, good show.
- 1:37:15Speaker 2: Great show.
- 1:37:15Speaker 1: Yeah. And if they say this one went a little long,
- 1:37:18Speaker 1: very long, chef, Chef will have some editing to do.
- 1:37:22Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:37:24Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, we've got to get those numbers down. You
- 1:37:26Speaker 1: know how I feel when we go a little too long,
- 1:37:29Speaker 1: even on bus and I cut some of this out.
- 1:37:32Speaker 2: What should we aim for?
- 1:37:34Speaker 1: No clue? You know? I like to be under the
- 1:37:36Speaker 1: hour mark, you know, I like to be under the
- 1:37:39Speaker 1: hour mark. That might be impossible, and maybe the you know,
- 1:37:42Speaker 1: maybe people be like, no, this is you guys, are
- 1:37:44Speaker 1: this is completely fine? Like I know when I get
- 1:37:46Speaker 1: on and I see it an episode and I know
- 1:37:48Speaker 1: it's like under an hour, like our last one was
- 1:37:50Speaker 1: what was our last one? Fifty minutes? You see fifty? Okay,
- 1:37:54Speaker 1: oh it's under an hour? Yeah, should be easy. I
- 1:37:56Speaker 1: can do that. So that's all. That's all I would
- 1:37:59Speaker 1: That's why.
- 1:38:00Speaker 2: That's that's my only note too. But I was so
- 1:38:03Speaker 2: lost in the sauce of conversation that also is like, hey,
- 1:38:06Speaker 2: maybe a good thing. But at the same time, I'm like, oh, man,
- 1:38:10Speaker 2: on the top of our sheet, ETA expected runtime forty
- 1:38:13Speaker 2: five minutes.
- 1:38:14Speaker 1: Yeah, so yeah, yeah, got a couple of talkers up here.
- 1:38:17Speaker 2: Yeah, we got some talkers. We got something we'll we'll
- 1:38:20Speaker 2: we'll bring it in.
- 1:38:21Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:38:21Speaker 2: Maybe you take motherfucked, I'll take crack a cold one.
- 1:38:25Speaker 2: You'd like, we'll each one do one of the segments. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:38:30Speaker 2: that might be what we need to do.
- 1:38:31Speaker 1: Pre production meeting could be good for us, a pre.
- 1:38:33Speaker 2: Productive which we didn't didn't do and that's okay, that's okay.
- 1:38:38Speaker 2: It's a very busy week. But we'll get a dial.
- 1:38:41Speaker 1: Yeah, get a dial. Shout out to dads Man, thank
- 1:38:44Speaker 1: you guys for joining us, Like subscribe again, leave comments.
- 1:38:47Speaker 1: We love the comments. We'll be engaging with you guys,
- 1:38:49Speaker 1: whether it's on social, here, on YouTube, whatever the case is.
- 1:38:52Speaker 1: Thank you, guys. We appreciate the support. We need to
- 1:38:56Speaker 1: sign off right now. I got just got big hugs,
- 1:38:58Speaker 1: tidy kisses.
- 1:38:59Speaker 2: I think that's great. That's a blanket sign off that
- 1:39:01Speaker 2: I think for busting because y'all do it on the
- 1:39:03Speaker 2: locker room too. I think that's a good one.
- 1:39:05Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, take your trash out. See you guys next week.
- 1:39:08Speaker 1: Oh
