- 0:16SPEAKER_01: I'm Coach Smith, and I'll be your host.
- 0:20SPEAKER_01: Buckle up.
- 0:21SPEAKER_01: Let's go.
- 0:26SPEAKER_01: First things first, we celebrate Veterans Day this Saturday, honoring military veterans of the United States Armed Forces who were discharged under conditions other than dishonorable.
- 0:39SPEAKER_01: Without these heroes, our world might look a lot different.
- 0:43SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 0:45SPEAKER_01: Big weekend for Section 4.
- 0:47SPEAKER_01: It's the Section 4 Football Championships.
- 0:49SPEAKER_01: This is why you train and lift all them weights and prepare all offseason.
- 0:54SPEAKER_01: There are 12 Section 4 teams remaining.
- 0:57SPEAKER_01: This weekend there will be six new Section 4 champions crowned, and five of those teams will automatically punch their ticket to the New York State playoffs.
- 1:06SPEAKER_01: The winner of the A-player classification will continue to play for a regional championship.
- 1:12SPEAKER_01: Regardless of who the winners are, Section 4 will be represented very well.
- 1:19SPEAKER_01: In this episode, Roger Neal will cover the AA, A, and B games.
- 1:24SPEAKER_01: I will cover the C, D, and A player games.
- 1:28SPEAKER_01: Now just a little review of the schedules for you.
- 1:30SPEAKER_01: Friday evening, November 10th, the A game will be Elmira at Corning, 6 p.m.
- 1:37SPEAKER_01: The single A game will be Horseheads at Vestal, kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
- 1:43SPEAKER_01: The D game will have Delhi versus Tioga at Johnson City with a 5 p.m.
- 1:50SPEAKER_01: kickoff.
- 1:51SPEAKER_01: Note the new time, 5 p.m.
- 1:54SPEAKER_01: kickoff.
- 1:55SPEAKER_01: Saturday, all three games will be at Vestal High School.
- 1:59SPEAKER_01: For the C classification, we'll have Shenango Forks versus Waverly with a noon kickoff.
- 2:05SPEAKER_01: The B classification will have Awego versus Maine Endwell at 3.
- 2:10SPEAKER_01: And the eight player classification will be Trumansburg versus Moravia at 6 p.m.
- 2:17SPEAKER_01: Well, we well, Roger, it's championship weekend.
- 2:21SPEAKER_01: It's really the last weekend that you and I are going to have an opportunity to uh cover Section 4 games.
- 2:27SPEAKER_01: It's been a great season, and I want you to do as usual.
- 2:31SPEAKER_01: Give us a great wrap-up for these uh Section 4 championship weekend.
- 2:34SPEAKER_01: Take it away, bud.
- 2:35SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: Thank you, Tim.
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: You know, this is what all these teams play for going into the season.
- 2:40SPEAKER_00: A lot of talking preseason and training camp.
- 2:42SPEAKER_00: We got to get to the to the playoffs.
- 2:44SPEAKER_00: And then when they get to the playoffs, keep going.
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: We need a championship and right on down the line.
- 2:49SPEAKER_00: And now the winners uh in the semifinals are still standing.
- 2:53SPEAKER_00: And here's what we have going into the weekend.
- 2:55SPEAKER_00: Elmiro play at Corning Friday night for the double-8 championship.
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: Elmira goes in four and five.
- 3:02SPEAKER_00: And last week, Elmira club Binghamton 61 to 12.
- 3:06SPEAKER_00: Now, Corning, because they finished atop the just three teams in the division, but they got a bye.
- 3:12SPEAKER_00: So they were waiting in the wings.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: And of course, Elmira and Corning are no strangers.
- 3:16SPEAKER_00: So whatever that week did a little extra rest, perhaps for Corning, but they'll play at Corning.
- 3:21SPEAKER_00: Regular season, Corning knocked off Elmira 31 to 8.
- 3:26SPEAKER_00: Elmira has um, for uh the offense not put up a lot of points, but they have given up 145 over the year.
- 3:34SPEAKER_00: They've averaged 18 a game, but they've given up a ton of points.
- 3:38SPEAKER_00: And also, of course, for um uh the uh opposition, again uh 185 against them.
- 3:45SPEAKER_00: So uh they have had things stacked against them defensively.
- 3:48SPEAKER_00: Corning, meanwhile, with a bye last week, averaging 28 points a game.
- 3:52SPEAKER_00: They've given up an average of 29.
- 3:55SPEAKER_00: On to class A.
- 3:56SPEAKER_00: Horseheads at Vestal on Friday night.
- 3:59SPEAKER_00: And Vestel has been on a roll.
- 4:01SPEAKER_00: They've won now five in a row.
- 4:03SPEAKER_00: The only blemish on their overall record was a loss by two points at Vestal to UE, the Cross River River Rivalry.
- 4:11SPEAKER_00: And that was an outstanding game, certainly, in the second half.
- 4:13SPEAKER_00: So horseheads will play at Vestal.
- 4:16SPEAKER_00: Horseheads lost to Vestal the regular season, 28-7.
- 4:19SPEAKER_00: They come in with a two-game losing streak.
- 4:22SPEAKER_00: Horseheads averaging 34 points a game, 420 against Vestal, solid offense, 29-4.
- 4:29SPEAKER_00: But how about the defense giving up just an average of nine points per game?
- 4:33SPEAKER_00: So the defense, perhaps the unsung heroes, even though Vestel's offense gets more of the headlines.
- 4:38SPEAKER_00: Now on to Class B.
- 4:40SPEAKER_00: Awego, perhaps surprising a lot of people, they pulled out a 21-20 win over Windsor.
- 4:45SPEAKER_00: And for much of the season, Windsor was uh a team that many talked about.
- 4:50SPEAKER_00: Could they compete or knock off Maine Anwell?
- 4:53SPEAKER_00: Wasn't to be.
- 4:54SPEAKER_00: And lo and behold, Owego pulls out the victory 21-20 to advance.
- 4:58SPEAKER_00: Now they match up against the Maine Anwell Spartans coming up on Saturday.
- 5:02SPEAKER_00: Emmy comes in 9-0, and last week they rolled it with 38-7 win over Norwich regular season.
- 5:08SPEAKER_00: Emmy played them.
- 5:10SPEAKER_00: I saw that game, and it was a horse race.
- 5:13SPEAKER_00: Unfortunately, for Awego, the horse was being ridden by Maine Enwell.
- 5:17SPEAKER_00: 69 to nothing, and it was really over at the end of the first half.
- 5:20SPEAKER_00: But uh Maine Enwell rolled, so we'll see what the um uh visitors uh for a we go as far as a lower seed will be able to bring to the table this time around.
- 5:30SPEAKER_00: Main Edwell's stats are astounding, not only on beaten, number one in the state in Class B, but points four, they've averaged over 51 points a game, and points against 15 a game.
- 5:42SPEAKER_00: Now, that is even a bit distorted because their starting lineup has been out of the game for often much of this entire second half.
- 5:49SPEAKER_00: So those stats could probably be a lot higher.
- 5:51SPEAKER_00: Awe go averaging 22 points a game, and they've given up 23.
- 5:56SPEAKER_00: So explosive power for Emmy.
- 5:58SPEAKER_00: What can Awe go do to slow them down?
- 6:00SPEAKER_00: Well, we'll find out.
- 6:01SPEAKER_00: That's why they play the championship, and again, that'll be coming up this weekend.
- 6:05SPEAKER_00: Emmy matching up for the Class B title as uh they move on against Awego.
- 6:10SPEAKER_00: That's a look at it.
- 6:11SPEAKER_00: We're looking for an exciting weekend of Section 4 Championship football with the winners moving on to state competition.
- 6:18SPEAKER_01: Hey, Roger, thank you.
- 6:19SPEAKER_01: As usual, we did a great job, and like I alluded to earlier, this this wraps up our uh season.
- 6:24SPEAKER_01: And I want to thank you for doing a super job and uh want to wish you the best of everything as you go on and you'll be the uh voice of the Binghamton University Bearcats this season for their men's basketball.
- 6:35SPEAKER_01: So good luck with that, and thank you again for everything you do for uh Cover Four Podcast and making it a great experience for the Section 4 football fans.
- 6:44SPEAKER_01: Take care, bud.
- 6:45SPEAKER_00: All right, Jim.
- 6:45SPEAKER_00: Thank you.
- 6:46SPEAKER_00: Have a great one.
- 6:47SPEAKER_01: Now for the Class C game.
- 6:49SPEAKER_01: This will be Shenango Forks led by Coach Hogan against Waverly, led by Coach Miller.
- 6:55SPEAKER_01: This is a rematch of last season's Class C championship game, won by Waverly 28-14.
- 7:02SPEAKER_01: It's also a week four rematch of this season played at Shenango Forks, which is with a game also won by Waverly 19-15.
- 7:11SPEAKER_01: Waverly has not lost since that game, and Shenango Forks has only lost once since that game to a team you may have heard of, Maine Endwell.
- 7:20SPEAKER_01: Shenango Forks is currently on a three-game win streak and ranked 15th in New York State, while Waverly is on an eight-game win streak and currently ranked number four in New York State.
- 7:31SPEAKER_01: I'm kind of geeky with numbers, so just hear me out.
- 7:34SPEAKER_01: This game is scheduled to be played November 11th.
- 7:37SPEAKER_01: That's 1111, which is Joey Tomaso's jersey number.
- 7:42SPEAKER_01: In addition to the scoreboard, you might see some strange number-related things happen in this game.
- 7:48SPEAKER_01: The game is too close to call.
- 7:51SPEAKER_01: Okay, now this takes us to Class D, where we have Del High led by Coach Newman versus Tyoga led by Coach Ayalo.
- 7:59SPEAKER_01: This is a rematch of last season's Class D championship game, won by Tyoga 42 to 14.
- 8:06SPEAKER_01: Both teams are currently ranked in the top five in New York State, Tyoga at number one and Del High at number four.
- 8:13SPEAKER_01: This is also a week three rematch at Del High, won by Tyoga 56-28.
- 8:20SPEAKER_01: Neither team has lost since that week three game.
- 8:23SPEAKER_01: Tyoga is currently riding the longest win streak in Section 4 at 37 games, and is ultimately seeking their third consecutive state title.
- 8:33SPEAKER_01: I expect this game to be closer than the first meeting, but I don't see Tioga being denied.
- 8:39SPEAKER_01: I'm happy to announce I will be teaming with Pat McDonald to broadcast this Class D championship game on Choice 102.1 FM Waverly and WEBO 107.9 FM Owego.
- 8:54SPEAKER_01: If you are in attendance, you can still listen to the game on your smartphone by visiting myhometowntoday.com.
- 9:03SPEAKER_01: That's myhometowntoday.com and click on either station.
- 9:09SPEAKER_01: Now for the eight-player classification game, which will pit Trumansburg led by Coach Munoz versus Moravia led by Coach Ott.
- 9:18SPEAKER_01: This is a week four rematch at Moravia won by Moravia 56 to 29.
- 9:24SPEAKER_01: Moravia is currently on a 10-game win streak, undefeated, and ranked number two in New York State, where Trumansburg is ranked number six in New York State and has scored 60 or more four times.
- 9:38SPEAKER_01: In last week's win over Unitego Franklin, Moravia broke the single season scoring record with 552 points.
- 9:47SPEAKER_01: The previous record was set by Groton last season with 534 points.
- 9:53SPEAKER_01: What's impressive about this record is Moravia accomplished this in nine games compared to Groton's 12 games.
- 10:01SPEAKER_01: Moravia has their sight set on a couple more records, one being the least amount of points allowed, which is currently at 60, and held by the 2021 Spencer Vedetten Cander team.
- 10:14SPEAKER_01: Moravia is currently at 53.
- 10:17SPEAKER_01: During their last meeting with Trumansburg, they allowed 29 points.
- 10:21SPEAKER_01: Moravia is also seeking to break Spencer Vadetta and Candor's 2021 record for largest point differential, which stands currently at plus 456.
- 10:31SPEAKER_01: Moravia's current point differential is plus 499.
- 10:37SPEAKER_01: All I got to say is they better have a lot of extra scoreboard light bulbs for this game.
- 10:41SPEAKER_01: I see Moravia moving on to the regional round.
- 10:46SPEAKER_01: Now a little reminder of Cover 4 podcast coverage.
