- 0:00hello i betrayed my friends at the house on the
- 0:03hill but stuff still happened so what's up it's
- 0:08apple's turn to do the artificial artificial
- 0:10intelligence thing so all the way back 10 years
- 0:13ago when it was last year apple announced the
- 0:15iphone 16 and they were like this is built from
- 0:18the ground up for Apple intelligence. They then
- 0:21went on to showcase a whole bunch of features
- 0:23about how it could reach into apps on your phone
- 0:25and like learn stuff about you, but still be
- 0:27private and do all this cool stuff and how Siri
- 0:29wouldn't suck anymore. And that was all lies.
- 0:32I mean, lies, lies -ish. It was lies adjacent.
- 0:35Apple has rolled out some of their Apple intelligence
- 0:38features. I turn them off on my devices because
- 0:41they're bad, but they've rolled out some, just
- 0:44not most. And they just keep delaying these features
- 0:47because it turns out the developers learned about
- 0:50these features basically when we did. See, Apple
- 0:52has a long history of not jumping onto a new
- 0:55feature or product first. They'll wait and then
- 0:58do it the Apple way, which frankly does usually
- 1:02work out for them. They've got multiple trillions
- 1:04of dollars in market value. I have. like a crisp
- 1:07$20 bill by comparison. But this time it kind
- 1:10of fucked them over. They didn't have any plan
- 1:12for AI before ChatGPT became a thing. And even
- 1:15when that happened, they were like, shit, okay,
- 1:17like how do we make something? just so that we
- 1:21can put it out there. So apparently they tried
- 1:23just like updating Siri to allow Siri to reach
- 1:25out to an AI and like answer some questions,
- 1:28but that just created more bugs than it was worth.
- 1:30So they gave up on that, which is why we now
- 1:32have that like middle ground thing where sometimes
- 1:34Siri gets a query and it's like, ah, I don't
- 1:36fucking know. Want me to ask chat GPT? Or at
- 1:39least I think that's how that works. Again, I
- 1:40turn it off because I don't want this. I'm not
- 1:43complaining that this isn't a thing. I don't
- 1:45want it in the first place, but it's still very
- 1:47funny. So they tried the one thing. They then
- 1:49did the whole like just, send it off to chat
- 1:51GPT. They apparently were announcing features
- 1:54on stage that were just like not communicated
- 1:56internally. Something that was more like a concept
- 1:58became marketing materials. And they were like,
- 2:02yeah, we're, you know, it's not quite ready yet,
- 2:04but it'll be out in a couple months. It's been,
- 2:06it's been several of those months and it's really
- 2:10just been nothing. But hey, you can, you can
- 2:13have them generate a custom emoji. or an image,
- 2:18sort of, with like the worst of all of the image
- 2:21generators. And, oh great, you can have it rewrite
- 2:25some text. Truly the next level of personal assistant.
- 2:30Anyway, we're now fast approaching the actually
- 2:32hysterical concept that the iPhone 17 might come
- 2:34out before the 16 gets the features that they
- 2:36said it would have. So policy. OK, egg on my
- 2:42face. Last time I said that the bill, the big,
- 2:44beautiful tax bill was unlikely to pass. Is it
- 2:47going to pass? Probably not. It passed. It passed
- 2:49the House. It's now going on to the Senate, where
- 2:52I will give exactly no insight into what I think
- 2:55is going to happen to the bill. Can't get me
- 2:57on that one, losers. But anyway, here comes the
- 3:00insight I said I wouldn't give. It's probably
- 3:02still going to have a hard time in the Senate.
- 3:04The Senate has a lot to lose on this one. Going
- 3:07into 2026, they want to not piss everybody off.
- 3:09And this bill has a lot of things. They're going
- 3:11to piss a lot of people off and only a few crowd
- 3:14pleasers. So they're going to work real hard
- 3:16to make sure that it's going to be passable without
- 3:19ruining their midterm chances. That said, still
- 3:21could very well pass, but just because it passed
- 3:24the House does not make it the law of the land,
- 3:26so it passed does not mean it actually is now
- 3:29law. And here's something of note. Let's highlight
- 3:32this. It passed the House with a vote of 215
- 3:35to 214, a margin of one vote. Three Democrat
- 3:40representatives over the age of 70 have died
- 3:44in office, leaving voting vacancies that allowed
- 3:47that to happen. Now, If they were alive, would
- 3:50this have potentially eventually passed? Yes.
- 3:52But the vote that it actually passed on was made
- 3:55possible because Democrats don't step down and
- 3:59just. Age until they die in office. Cool, cool,
- 4:02cool. Very cool. Very cool. Anyway, after it
- 4:05passed the House, the bond market went tumbling
- 4:07because it's a bad bill and solar company stocks
- 4:09just plummeted because the bill targets renewable
- 4:12energy pretty severely. In fact, that was one
- 4:15of the main things the Republicans were cheering
- 4:16on was the removal of any investment, really
- 4:19the stopping of investment in renewable energy
- 4:22and the increase in investment back in coal and
- 4:24fossil fuels because it's 2025. And that makes
- 4:27sense. All right. Signal. Okay. So several high
- 4:32-ranking government officials were caught using
- 4:34Signal to talk about very private stuff that
- 4:38they shouldn't be using Signal for. And now we're
- 4:41getting a headline that Signal was hacked and
- 4:42a bunch of data was stolen. Let's clear up some
- 4:45stuff. The app that most people in the government
- 4:47use, and some are actually just literally using
- 4:49Signal, but the app that most people in the government
- 4:51are using is actually called TeleMessage Signal,
- 4:54which is a recreation of Signal that also archives
- 4:57all of your messages. They do that for compliance
- 5:00reasons. The government has to keep records of
- 5:02stuff, which is why it's actually really, really
- 5:04bad if they use normal signal, which explicitly
- 5:06does not keep records for government activity.
- 5:10So telemessage is the thing that was hacked,
- 5:12not signal. Their records that they keep were
- 5:15leaked. Journalists have been going through the
- 5:17leaked data, trying to find anything that would
- 5:19be. of significant note. And so far, it seems
- 5:22like there's not like war plans in there, but
- 5:25there are things like the locations and travel
- 5:27plans of high ranking officials. So this service
- 5:30that's supposed to archive sensitive conversations
- 5:33between government officials was just straight
- 5:35up hacked. And that's just that's just a thing.
- 5:37That's just a thing. Anyway, this is not a reflection
- 5:39on signal and signal security. This is, again,
- 5:41a recreation of signal that explicitly undermines
- 5:44signal security. All right, I'm going to I can't
- 5:47I can't not do it. Maha! Yeah, Maha. M -A -H
- 5:52-A. It's the health skeptic version of MAGA that's
- 5:57kind of like led by RFK Jr. So RFK Jr., a conspiracy
- 6:00theorist and anti -vaxxer, is like the head of
- 6:02health in the U .S. now, which it tracks. And
- 6:06among the MAGA crowd, there's been like a sub
- 6:08-initiative of MAGA called Maha. which is like
- 6:11the crunchy anti -vax sort of like subsect. RFK
- 6:15recently put out the Maha report, which is just
- 6:18sort of like, you know, his take on why things
- 6:21are bad, like why Americans are unhealthy. You
- 6:24know, let's not, let's ignore the whole like
- 6:27lack of time off and no social safety net and
- 6:29the inability to raise children or have any kind
- 6:31of childcare for anyone and the lack of access
- 6:33to quality fresh food. It's probably not bad.
- 6:36It's um... What could it be? The vaccines. It's
- 6:39the vaccines, everyone. Oh, how didn't we notice
- 6:43it before? Yeah, the report basically says all
- 6:46the things you would expect it to say. It's like,
- 6:48oh, vaccines are bad. Food additives are bad.
- 6:50Processed food is bad. Phone usage is bad. And
- 6:53it originally was going to say that pesticides
- 6:57are bad, but that was edited out by the White
- 7:00House. Monsanto was a reference in the report,
- 7:02but they were like, ah, pesticides? No, we don't
- 7:07need to investigate that. So the report does
- 7:08call to look into some of these pesticides in
- 7:122026, but it doesn't go as far as to say these
- 7:14are bad. They also removed a part of the report
- 7:16that talked about lobbyists who lobby the government
- 7:19for these chemical companies to prevent the government
- 7:21from regulating these cancer -causing chemicals.
- 7:24They removed that part from the report too. But
- 7:26it's probably the vaccines. Hello, if you like
- 7:28what I do, I would really appreciate your support.

- 7:47Thank you very much. Let's move on. World stuff.
- 7:52World stuff. Israel is still doing their thing.
- 7:56And Netanyahu is still talking about taking over
- 7:58the rest of Gaza now. He's very loudly saying
- 8:01that they're going to take over Gaza. They're
- 8:03going to get rid of everyone that's there. They've
- 8:05been blockading food and medicine. They've been
- 8:07letting it at a trickle in. They're literally
- 8:09quoted in saying that they don't want to have.
- 8:12pictures of starving babies coming out of Gaza
- 8:14because that would be bad for international relations,
- 8:16not because it would be immoral. And so world
- 8:19leaders from Canada and the UK and France, they're
- 8:21saying, hey, what the fuck? Like, this is not
- 8:24okay. You are straight up doing genocide. To
- 8:27which Netanyahu was like, you're on the wrong
- 8:28side of history. You're empowering Hamas. Ignore
- 8:32everything that we're doing. and let us keep
- 8:34doing it. On top of that, a delegation of European,
- 8:37Asian, and Arab diplomats were visiting the West
- 8:40Bank to get a sense of what's going on there,
- 8:42what with all the killing people that the Israeli
- 8:45army is doing. And wouldn't you know it, while
- 8:47they were there, the Israeli army shot at them.
- 8:50They shot at international diplomats. What blows
- 8:53my mind is in any other timeline, this would
- 8:55be like a year -long story. This would be the
- 8:58biggest thing of the year. But this is just like
- 9:01Tuesday instead. When asked, what the fuck? Why
- 9:04are you shooting at these diplomats? Israel was
- 9:06like, oh, those were warning shots because the
- 9:08diplomats went off the predetermined course that
- 9:11we would allow them to walk. Just firing some
- 9:13warning shots at these international representatives
- 9:15who are investigating whether or not we're, you
- 9:18know, doing war crimes to people. I also want
- 9:20to acknowledge that there were two Israeli staffers
- 9:22who were murdered in D .C. I don't know what
- 9:25to say about this. I don't really feel anything
- 9:27about it. I think it. It makes sense that something
- 9:30like this would happen. And these people were
- 9:33directly involved in a genocidal regime. They
- 9:35weren't just like, they weren't innocent bystanders.
- 9:38The main thing that gets me about all of this
- 9:41is, one, it wasn't a great move. Like right now,
- 9:44we are under the most propaganda we've seen in
- 9:47decades. And this is just so much gasoline on
- 9:51the fire. But two, a lot of outlets are spinning
- 9:54this as an attack. on them because they were
- 9:57Jewish, aside from only one of them actually
- 9:59being Jewish and ignoring the whole Zionist being
- 10:04a part of the whole Israeli government genociding
- 10:07a people thing. The guy didn't kill them and
- 10:09then say, I hate Jews. He killed them and shouted
- 10:11free Palestine. And whether or not he was a Fed
- 10:14or whatever, it was not because they were Jewish.
- 10:18Conflating Jews. And Israel is very dangerous,
- 10:22especially because not all Jews are Zionists
- 10:25and not all Jews support Israel. To lump them
- 10:28all together as one is doing a massive disservice,
- 10:30and that in itself is anti -Semitic. Anyway,
- 10:34on a completely different note, Kim Jong -un
- 10:37is upset. Because his ship didn't work. Kim Jong
- 10:40-un of North Korea has been working to try to
- 10:43upgrade their navy. You know, they're playing
- 10:45civilization, and they're like, oh shit, we gotta
- 10:47get some destroyers out here. So he had this
- 10:50big, beautiful warship that they built, and they
- 10:53were gonna launch it, and he was there for the
- 10:55launch. And when it launched, it capsized and
- 10:57crashed. It is apparently still partially submerged.
- 11:00He wasn't thrilled about this. It didn't reflect
- 11:03great. on him and his plans and so he lashed
- 11:06out a little bit let's see let's get this quote
- 11:08it's a good one all right kimbo said that the
- 11:10officials who were involved in the launch showed
- 11:12quote absolute carelessness irresponsibility
- 11:16and unscientific empiricism he went on to say
- 11:20and this is true I cannot suppress my emotions.
- 11:24We love an emotional king. Anyway, he arrested
- 11:26those officials because it's North Korea or America.
- 11:29Could have been either. Technology. Private messaging
- 11:32app Telegram is not actually all that private.
- 11:35And so far this year, they've already turned
- 11:37over over 20 ,000 user records to authorities.
- 11:40So last year, the CEO of Telegram got arrested
- 11:43in part of an investigation about child exploitation
- 11:46material on Telegram. And ever since then. they've
- 11:49been a bit more cordial with the police. Now,
- 11:52I want to say most social platforms have a pretty
- 11:55significant issue with really bad shit festering
- 11:59somewhere on their platform. Telegram is not
- 12:01unique in that. The platforms just kind of have
- 12:03like varying degrees of keeping it under wraps.
- 12:06But in Telegram's case, they were flaunting that
- 12:09they were not giving a shit if authorities wanted
- 12:12any information. But then turns out when you
- 12:16get arrested and you're reminded of your mortality,
- 12:18Even if you're a tech bro, sometimes you just
- 12:21roll over and show your belly. And so now they
- 12:23are routinely working with requests from cops
- 12:25to get information about users. There's a pretty
- 12:27interesting website. I've linked it in today's
- 12:29newsletter that will show you a breakdown of
- 12:31requests from authorities by nation and how many
- 12:35users were affected by those requests. Google
- 12:37Video, but not like that. Do you remember Google
- 12:40Video? Do you remember that? It was like pre
- 12:42-YouTube and it was like Google's YouTube competitor
- 12:45before they just bought YouTube. It was actually
- 12:47kind of nice, but that's not what... this is
- 12:48google recently had their io event which is like
- 12:51their developer convention where they make a
- 12:53bunch of big announcements and a lot of their
- 12:55announcements or basically all of their announcements
- 12:57this time was ai ai ai everything ai pants among
- 13:02the ai stuff they announced was a video generator
- 13:04ai called vo3 and um it definitely is creepy
- 13:09it can generate pretty realistic looking clips
- 13:12with dialogue and like sound and shit it's it's
- 13:15impressive I guess, but it also seems to just
- 13:19generate a lot of slop. I've seen people saying
- 13:21like, oh my God, this is the end of reality.
- 13:23This looks so real. And I get why people are
- 13:26concerned. And I get the direction we're going
- 13:27is this is making massive leaps. It still looks
- 13:31like AI to me, but it's also just like, why?
- 13:34Like, why? Why do we have this? Do we really
- 13:36need the ability to generate like five second
- 13:39clips of like a pink dinosaur stomping around
- 13:41town? Is humanity better off? with the ability
- 13:45to just generate stock imagery and stuff? Or
- 13:47why? Because all of this really, really feels
- 13:51like tech demos and concepts that were being
- 13:55sold as full products. And I'm very tired of
- 13:58being told that we need these things, especially
- 14:00when they also announced that the top tier subscription
- 14:03for their AI is $250 a month. No, I don't think
- 14:09I will. And speaking of AI, they are still trying
- 14:12to build. You might remember a while back, OpenAI
- 14:15had new voices for ChatGPT, one of which sounded
- 14:19suspiciously like Scarlett Johansson from the
- 14:22movie Her. I want to be very clear, Sam Altman
- 14:24has also made it clear that he's a big fan of
- 14:28that movie. And now OpenAI purchased a startup
- 14:30by Johnny Ive, the guy who designed a lot of
- 14:33earlier Apple products. They bought a startup
- 14:35of his that's working on like AI hardware for
- 14:38$6 .5 billion. The announcement video was deeply...
- 14:42creepy it's like the two of them being like oh
- 14:44we're best friends let's just like have an announcement
- 14:47about this acquisition where we're sitting at
- 14:49a coffee shop talking about how great each other
- 14:51is uh it's genuinely genuinely unnerving but
- 14:53they seem to be working on a new product that
- 14:55is essentially like the ai pin kind of thing
- 14:58or that rabbit r1 those ai hardware things that
- 15:02just failed it is i don't know specifics but
- 15:05it's apparently some kind of like box with no
- 15:09screen And it's like always listening. And it's
- 15:11an AI assistant thing. I don't know. Sam Altman
- 15:14was like, living with this has been life changing.
- 15:16You're going to love it. And I'm pretty sure
- 15:18that's not true for anyone. except for Sam Altman.
- 15:22Lightning round. There's a new ultra rapid test
- 15:25for brain tumors that's looking to reduce the
- 15:27time to diagnosis by like an order of magnitude,
- 15:30talking weeks to days. Sesame Street is saved.
- 15:33Netflix is jumping in and cut a deal with Sesame
- 15:36Street. It will be available on PBS and around
- 15:39the world on Netflix as well. There is a competition
- 15:41called the Enhanced Games. It's planned for 2026
- 15:44in Vegas, and it's like the Olympics, but you
- 15:47can explicitly take performance -enhancing drugs.
- 15:50A cargo ship ran aground into the garden of a
- 15:54random Norwegian man's home. He woke up and found
- 15:57a cargo ship in his lawn. Hey, Kentucky. I'm
- 16:01very sorry to inform you that the Bourbon Brood
- 16:03of Cicadas, a 17 -year brood, is due this year.
- 16:07It's gonna get loud. A USPS truck that was found
- 16:11with 5 ,000 abandoned chicks. The birds, not
- 16:15women. Those birds are now adopted. They've almost
- 16:21all found a home now. But Gawk? Marvel has announced
- 16:24a delay for the next two Avengers films, Doomsday
- 16:26and Secret Wars. That's what it was. Turns out
- 16:31that there was footage from the mothership of
- 16:33the Titan submersible, the submersible that went
- 16:36down to the Titanic and got blipped. So there
- 16:39was footage from the mothership in which they
- 16:41heard the implosion. They didn't know it at the
- 16:44time, but there was just kind of like a boop.
- 16:47Gone. And finally for today, an Australian politician
- 16:50in his exit speech from his political career
- 16:53shotgunned a beer out of a shoe. Fuck yeah. I
- 16:57know nothing about your politics. That's rad.
- 17:01Thank you so much for listening to today's episode
- 17:03of Stuff Keeps Happening. Head to skh .news for
- 17:05sources, bonus content, and a shoe that comes
- 17:11pre -stocked with beer. My name is Endeavorance.
- 17:14I'll be back on Monday. Take care and be well.
