- 0:05Speaker 1: NFL Now is a production of the NFL in partnership
- 0:08Speaker 1: with iHeartRadio.
- 0:13Speaker 2: There is no offseason.
- 0:14Speaker 1: Welcome to yet another day of NFL Now on NFL
- 0:17Speaker 1: Network from our news room in Los Angeles.
- 0:20Speaker 2: That's Steve Whitch.
- 0:21Speaker 1: I'm Andrews Ciciliano in honor of the met Gallo last night.
- 0:24Speaker 1: For the record, before anyone asks, I'm wearing suit, supply Steve, Carlo.
- 0:29Speaker 2: Barbera, Carlo Barbara. Yes, guys, Italian cut. I'm long tour
- 0:34Speaker 2: showed I have to wear Italian cutsuits.
- 0:36Speaker 1: Okay, we didn't dress like a cat, nothing over the top,
- 0:40Speaker 1: but just wanted.
- 0:41Speaker 2: To get it out of the way.
- 0:42Speaker 1: What it is we are wearing, whatever it is you're wearing.
- 0:45Speaker 2: Thank you for watching today. Let's get the news out
- 0:47Speaker 2: of the way. Today is deadline.
- 0:48Speaker 1: Today is the day that teams have to pick up
- 0:51Speaker 1: a fifth year option for the twenty twenty first round
- 0:55Speaker 1: picks that class, a class.
- 0:56Speaker 3: That includes Jordan Love.
- 0:58Speaker 1: Brian Goudacun says, there's a lot of money twenty million
- 1:00Speaker 1: to pay a quarterback that hasn't done anything, only started
- 1:03Speaker 1: one game. How about we meet in the middle, And
- 1:06Speaker 1: that evidently is what the Packers have done Tom Pelasero
- 1:11Speaker 1: instead of guaranteeing him that twenty million for twenty twenty four.
- 1:14Speaker 1: They found some middle ground here. We're in essence, if
- 1:17Speaker 1: Jordan Love plays well, everyone's a winner.
- 1:19Speaker 2: That's right, Andrew.
- 1:20Speaker 4: This is really a win win type of a deal
- 1:22Speaker 4: for Jordan Love, who gets that one year thirteen point
- 1:25Speaker 4: five million dollars guaranteed extent and that can be worth
- 1:28Speaker 4: up to twenty two point five million dollars with incentives. Now,
- 1:32Speaker 4: had Love simply had his option exercise, he would have
- 1:35Speaker 4: made about two point three million dollars this year and
- 1:38Speaker 4: a little over twenty million dollars in twenty twenty four.
- 1:40Speaker 4: That twenty plus million would have been fully guaranteed, but
- 1:44Speaker 4: Love would not have made any of it this season.
- 1:47Speaker 4: So what they did was they gave him more cash.
- 1:49Speaker 4: In twenty twenty three, he'll make over four times as
- 1:52Speaker 4: much as he would have had he played out the
- 1:54Speaker 4: fourth year on his rookie contract. For the Packers, they
- 1:57Speaker 4: get some cost control here in terms of not having
- 2:01Speaker 4: the base value of the number in twenty twenty four
- 2:03Speaker 4: be up at the number that the fifty year option
- 2:06Speaker 4: would have been. Here, the best case scenario for everyone
- 2:09Speaker 4: is that the twenty twenty four year ends up being
- 2:11Speaker 4: meaningless Andrew, and all they did was give Jordan Love
- 2:13Speaker 4: a raise before they negotiate a fat new extension because
- 2:16Speaker 4: he plays so well heading in the next up right, it.
- 2:18Speaker 1: Means he's not playing this year for just over two million,
- 2:21Speaker 1: which would be underpaid by starting quarterback standards. It's one
- 2:23Speaker 1: of those odd, wow, that makes sense, that's a really
- 2:26Speaker 1: fair deal for both sides kind of situations. Love was
- 2:29Speaker 1: the twenty sixth pick, Andrew Thomas was the fourth overall pick.
- 2:33Speaker 1: His number on the option tom is fourteen million at
- 2:38Speaker 1: tackle and.
- 2:39Speaker 4: Andrew the going rate for top offensive lineman top tackles
- 2:42Speaker 4: as well over twenty million dollars per year. So one
- 2:45Speaker 4: of those no brain types of situations for the Giants
- 2:47Speaker 4: on Andrew Thomas, who started forty four games over his
- 2:51Speaker 4: three seasons, has never missed the game because of injury
- 2:54Speaker 4: and has played every single snap in all but two
- 2:57Speaker 4: of those games over those first three seasons. Here, obviously,
- 3:00Speaker 4: they invested heavily in Daniel Jones, their quarterback earlier this offseason.
- 3:05Speaker 4: You need to keep him protected. Andrew Thomas a big
- 3:07Speaker 4: part of that. He would certainly anticipate that Joe Shane
- 3:10Speaker 4: and company are going to want to get a long
- 3:12Speaker 4: term deal done at some point with Andrew Thomas. But
- 3:14Speaker 4: they got Saquon Barkley they're still working through here as
- 3:17Speaker 4: he's on the franchise tag. They got Dexter Lawrence, who
- 3:19Speaker 4: they would like to get an extension done with as well.
- 3:22Speaker 4: Andrew Thomas's time will come, but by exercising the option,
- 3:25Speaker 4: they've got him under contract to the team for at
- 3:28Speaker 4: least the next two seasons.
- 3:29Speaker 1: All right, let's move to a veteran. Let's move to
- 3:30Speaker 1: DeAndre Hopkins. Romani Austin Ford. The new Cardinals GM made
- 3:33Speaker 1: clear last week he did not expect a Hopkins trade
- 3:36Speaker 1: during the draft. That did not happen. Yesterday, Hopkins was
- 3:40Speaker 1: on his Instagram and it appeared as if he was
- 3:44Speaker 1: at least in Arizona, but maybe even in the building, saying,
- 3:46Speaker 1: who said, I wanted to get out of here?
- 3:49Speaker 2: What's the latest there, Andrew.
- 3:52Speaker 4: What we know at this point is that the Arizona
- 3:55Speaker 4: Cardinals certainly have had conversations about trading DeAndre Hopkins, but
- 4:00Speaker 4: it's a complicated deal. A little bit older player who
- 4:03Speaker 4: has battled injuries and has a big number on the
- 4:06Speaker 4: books for twenty twenty three. You of course have looked
- 4:09Speaker 4: around the league and seen other receivers. Let's talk about
- 4:12Speaker 4: Odell Beckham Junior getting fifteen million dollars guaranteed on his
- 4:15Speaker 4: one year deal with the Ravens. If you're DeAndre Hopkins,
- 4:19Speaker 4: who does not have an agent but has some financial advisors,
- 4:21Speaker 4: you're looking at that and saying, why am I going
- 4:23Speaker 4: to play for anything less than what I'm duing, which
- 4:26Speaker 4: is seventeen million dollars in change in twenty twenty three.
- 4:29Speaker 4: That complicates a trade. It is certainly possible that Arizona
- 4:33Speaker 4: could work out a deal. And if Beaar's mentioning here Andrew,
- 4:35Speaker 4: look at what Manti asin For did during the draft.
- 4:38Speaker 2: There was a big i cast toward twenty twenty four.
- 4:41Speaker 4: In that initial trade down with the Texans, he picked
- 4:44Speaker 4: up a first round pick and a third round pick
- 4:46Speaker 4: in next year's draft. The Cardinals also made another trade
- 4:49Speaker 4: later in the draft that netted them yet another twenty
- 4:51Speaker 4: twenty four third round pick. So to the extent that
- 4:54Speaker 4: some teams, if this were a different team or a
- 4:56Speaker 4: different year, might go, hey, we need those picks in
- 4:58Speaker 4: the twenty twenty three draft for Arizona. It's fairly apparent
- 5:02Speaker 4: this is a big picture type of a rebuild, and
- 5:05Speaker 4: so moving Downdre Hopkins sometime between now and the start
- 5:07Speaker 4: of training camp certainly is not the question. And we'll
- 5:10Speaker 4: give them even more draft capital and next year's draft.
- 5:12Speaker 1: Yeah, and the the OBJ contract. It's great to mention
- 5:15Speaker 1: that you can't forget that because no one thought he
- 5:17Speaker 1: was going to get fifteen million, nobody, but then he did.
- 5:20Speaker 1: And then to your point, if you're DeAndre Hopkins saying, well,
- 5:22Speaker 1: then why should I take a pick that guy barely
- 5:25Speaker 1: has played the.
- 5:25Speaker 2: Last two years? Right?
- 5:27Speaker 1: Let's move on to the to the rookie class from
- 5:30Speaker 1: this past weekend, two hundred and fifty nine players were drafted.
- 5:33Speaker 1: Tom We now, drum roll, please have the first of
- 5:37Speaker 1: the two point fifty nine to sign a contract.
- 5:41Speaker 4: This is always an interesting moment, Andrew, as the first
- 5:44Speaker 4: one of the basically pre negotiated contracts gets done. Remember,
- 5:48Speaker 4: since twenty eleven, all these have been slotted types of deals.
- 5:51Speaker 4: There are various things in terms of cash flow, bonuses,
- 5:55Speaker 4: offset language, et cetera, that can slow down certain negotiations.
- 5:59Speaker 4: And certainly if you don't have movement or somebody signs overslot,
- 6:03Speaker 4: which happened with some teams last year, that that can
- 6:05Speaker 4: slow things down. But no fear from the Panthers here.
- 6:08Speaker 4: They move quickly to get Jamie Robinson done again. All
- 6:11Speaker 4: these are slotted types of deals. Everything is in the
- 6:14Speaker 4: rookie pool. The teams are allowed to spend here. So
- 6:16Speaker 4: I would anticipate if you got one done, the Panthers might.
- 6:19Speaker 2: Be the ones trying to be the first ones.
- 6:20Speaker 4: Done with their entire rookie class, which of course begins
- 6:23Speaker 4: with that number one overall.
- 6:24Speaker 2: Pick Bryce Young?
- 6:25Speaker 1: Right who will where number nine? The Panthers made that
- 6:27Speaker 1: announcement today, Bryce Young, Jersey nine. Matt Corral switches from
- 6:31Speaker 1: nine to two. For those scoring at home, Tom pell Sero,
- 6:35Speaker 1: thank you, sir, our NFL.
- 6:38Speaker 2: Are you ready? All right?
- 6:40Speaker 3: Alright, alright, Bryce Young, Welcome to the National Football League,
- 6:45Speaker 3: Bryce Young, C. J.
- 6:46Speaker 1: Stroud real inter Houston Texans aren't messing around, guys. I
- 6:51Speaker 1: love it, Jack Hot, Hot hot hot.
- 6:55Speaker 3: Guess what Joan Lovely you have.
- 6:56Speaker 2: To mohill for you? Did I say something he went
- 6:59Speaker 2: through the first night you did not get drafted?
- 7:03Speaker 3: Who are the Titans coming up? Again, just truly a
- 7:06Speaker 3: moment of suspense right now. But Tennessee Titans select, We'll
- 7:09Speaker 3: love it.
- 7:10Speaker 2: Last night was long, his night to night quite short. Yeah,
- 7:15Speaker 2: tell me about Yeah we got.
- 7:17Speaker 5: To pole, Yeah right.
- 7:19Speaker 6: Up, skin a night we can't.
- 7:20Speaker 3: We waded a fight, yeah right up the towels we
- 7:24Speaker 3: got to.
- 7:27Speaker 2: That is a plot twist.
- 7:29Speaker 3: TJS, you just got destroyed. He is a game changer,
- 7:34Speaker 3: He's a field changer. I remember this moment. You know
- 7:37Speaker 3: what I'm saying.
- 7:39Speaker 2: Always remember the.
- 7:40Speaker 1: Draft because it obviously has an effect.
- 7:42Speaker 2: On the coming season. There are a few guarantees in.
- 7:45Speaker 1: Life, death taxes, those things. Also, a team going worse
- 7:48Speaker 1: than first, it basically happened every single year. Matter of fact,
- 7:53Speaker 1: that Jaguars had the number one overall pick of consecutive
- 7:56Speaker 1: years and last year they want a playoff game. So,
- 7:58Speaker 1: because it is the off season, and because this is
- 8:01Speaker 1: what we do post draft, lands Airline, Steve White, we
- 8:03Speaker 1: sit here and say, who's.
- 8:05Speaker 2: Going to go worse to first this year?
- 8:07Speaker 1: But Lance, I'm going to give you a little bit
- 8:09Speaker 1: of leeway here. I'm gonna make it a two year proposition. Okay, okay,
- 8:13Speaker 1: so teams kind of down here, give me your first
- 8:15Speaker 1: one that could go worse to first in the next
- 8:18Speaker 1: two years.
- 8:20Speaker 7: Well, I think the Houston Texans are one team that
- 8:22Speaker 7: you look at and you start with the division, right
- 8:24Speaker 7: because the division is not a strong division other than
- 8:27Speaker 7: the Jaguars. But the Jaguars still have some questions. I mean,
- 8:30Speaker 7: they had a nice run, but we've seen teams take
- 8:33Speaker 7: a spike and in go back down. We saw when
- 8:35Speaker 7: Drew Brees first joined the Saints then there was a
- 8:37Speaker 7: little bit of a client and then you know he
- 8:39Speaker 7: climbed back up, and the Saints obviously climb back up.
- 8:42Speaker 7: So you've added the energy and the juice from Demico Ryants.
- 8:45Speaker 3: You've got a quarterback the CJ. Stroud, who I think
- 8:48Speaker 3: is a very good fit in that offense.
- 8:49Speaker 7: A pass rusher with great football temperament and character and leadership,
- 8:53Speaker 7: and Will Anderson.
- 8:54Speaker 3: I think the Texans could be a team to keep
- 8:56Speaker 3: your eye on.
- 8:57Speaker 7: As they have they still have a good first round
- 8:59Speaker 7: pick next year from Cleveland coming, they still have additional
- 9:02Speaker 7: draft capital, and they've got money to spend in the offseason.
- 9:05Speaker 3: I think the Texans are a team to keep your
- 9:06Speaker 3: eye on.
- 9:07Speaker 2: I really like this.
- 9:07Speaker 8: I really like the Texans in the situation in part
- 9:09Speaker 8: because you do look at the rest of the division,
- 9:12Speaker 8: right Jacksonville.
- 9:13Speaker 2: You mentioned it.
- 9:14Speaker 8: In seventeen, they were the AFC Championship and didn't go
- 9:16Speaker 8: back to the playoffs since Plus, that's when they're going
- 9:19Speaker 8: to have to be spend their money to pay Trevor Lawrence.
- 9:21Speaker 8: So we'll see who what other key players may have
- 9:23Speaker 8: to leave that roster. And then Tennessee is probably going
- 9:25Speaker 8: to it be making a quarterback switch, if not this season,
- 9:28Speaker 8: after next season, so they could be breaking in a
- 9:30Speaker 8: new quarterback and the Colts they could be a team
- 9:33Speaker 8: right there with the Texans competing for that spot for
- 9:36Speaker 8: number two. For the purpose of this exercise, we're talking
- 9:39Speaker 8: worse to first.
- 9:40Speaker 1: Okay, worse to first? What about a team in Chicago.
- 9:44Speaker 1: Lance has a lot of people, I know you're one
- 9:46Speaker 1: of them, like what Ryan Poles and the Bears did
- 9:49Speaker 1: last week.
- 9:50Speaker 3: I really do.
- 9:50Speaker 7: And it's not just about last week, it's about this
- 9:53Speaker 7: entire offseason. They added Tremaine Edmonds in the middle of
- 9:55Speaker 7: that defense, give them some speed, and now you've added
- 9:58Speaker 7: two defensive tackles in the draft with Dexter and Pickings,
- 10:01Speaker 7: you go get Tyreek Stevenson a cornerback, which is a
- 10:04Speaker 7: position you need. Darnell Right the big bully at right tackle,
- 10:08Speaker 7: and I think growth from the quarterback position is just
- 10:10Speaker 7: something that typically happens. And I think we're going to
- 10:13Speaker 7: see a better passing attack and a more confident passer
- 10:17Speaker 7: with justin fields. And it certainly doesn't hurt that Ryan Poles,
- 10:20Speaker 7: as part of his trade back from one to nine,
- 10:22Speaker 7: ended up adding Dj Moore, a legitimate.
- 10:24Speaker 3: Wide receiver one candidate.
- 10:25Speaker 7: Let's not forget the draft capital that the Chicago Bears
- 10:29Speaker 7: have over the next year to two years is really substantial.
- 10:32Speaker 7: So Aaron Rodgers out of the division, Kirk Cousins has
- 10:35Speaker 7: a year left on the contract, I think you can
- 10:38Speaker 7: see a potential ascension and maybe a faster ascension that
- 10:41Speaker 7: people are ready for in Chicago.
- 10:43Speaker 2: You know that I agree with you. There's going to
- 10:45Speaker 2: be an ascension. But the Detroit Lions are the team
- 10:47Speaker 2: to me. They're not in the.
- 10:49Speaker 8: Last place, but that's going to be the team to
- 10:51Speaker 8: knock off. I think they can be the team to
- 10:52Speaker 8: be in the NFC North this year and for years coming.
- 10:55Speaker 8: And I look at their draft and all the talent
- 10:57Speaker 8: they accrued, even though all the controversy seeming of where
- 11:00Speaker 8: they picked that talent and would order value whatever. That
- 11:04Speaker 8: to me is a team on the rise, and that's
- 11:06Speaker 8: the team that could stop the Bears from reaching that
- 11:09Speaker 8: first place mark.
- 11:10Speaker 1: Okay, so we have two teams here that are in
- 11:12Speaker 1: the top ten and the draft. Two teams that are
- 11:14Speaker 1: obvious Hey, yeah, maybe they have a good long term
- 11:16Speaker 1: future here. This other one, lance that you have that
- 11:19Speaker 1: you think can go worse to first in the next
- 11:21Speaker 1: two years is a bit different. This is a team
- 11:23Speaker 1: that won seven games last year.
- 11:27Speaker 7: Yeah, and it's the division there in you know, the Steelers,
- 11:29Speaker 7: the Ravens, the Bengals, so obviously they're in a very
- 11:32Speaker 7: competitive division. But I think the Cleveland Browns are going
- 11:35Speaker 7: to take that move up now. Obviously this year, I
- 11:37Speaker 7: like the picks they made. They didn't have as much
- 11:39Speaker 7: draft capital, but they added Cedric Tillman, who I think
- 11:43Speaker 7: is just a highly underrated wide receiver prospect, a big,
- 11:46Speaker 7: physical ball winner, and that's something that I think Deshaun
- 11:49Speaker 7: Watson's going to love since he loved that when he
- 11:51Speaker 7: had DeAndre Hopkins in Houston. I think we're going to
- 11:53Speaker 7: see a better version of Deshaun Watson. I like the
- 11:56Speaker 7: fact that they added a couple big men.
- 11:58Speaker 3: And Dwan Jones at.
- 11:59Speaker 7: Right tackling siaki Ika, the defensive.
- 12:02Speaker 3: Tackle from Baylor.
- 12:03Speaker 7: So when you really start to add the fact that
- 12:05Speaker 7: you're getting what should be a much better version of
- 12:08Speaker 7: Deshaun Watson, and you look at the additions that they
- 12:11Speaker 7: have of specifically Cedric.
- 12:13Speaker 3: Tillman, a running game that I think is going to
- 12:15Speaker 3: be good.
- 12:16Speaker 7: I think the Cleveland Browns technically they were worst, but
- 12:19Speaker 7: I think they're going to be a major factor in
- 12:21Speaker 7: the division.
- 12:22Speaker 3: Obviously, the Bengals are the big boys. To keep your
- 12:25Speaker 3: eye on the Browns this year.
- 12:26Speaker 8: Yeah, and all these three teams were talking about, I
- 12:28Speaker 8: think the Browns are the team that could make that
- 12:29Speaker 8: move the quickest, you know, because some of the pieces
- 12:31Speaker 8: they already have in place, namely the quarterback. They make
- 12:34Speaker 8: a change at defensive coordinator. That's where some of the
- 12:36Speaker 8: games broke down on them last year. So we'll see
- 12:39Speaker 8: if that changes things. But Cleveland's a team I don't
- 12:41Speaker 8: think we're talking about enough. I'm sure we have all
- 12:43Speaker 8: somemmer to do to see who could be the team
- 12:46Speaker 8: that threatens the Bengals. In the NFC North. I think
- 12:48Speaker 8: Cleveland's going to be right there. I really agree with.
- 12:50Speaker 2: This, and again I think think this could happen quicker
- 12:52Speaker 2: in two years.
- 12:53Speaker 1: And it does happen, as we mentioned, every single year
- 12:56Speaker 1: there is a team that goes worse to first. So
- 12:59Speaker 1: those are your early candidates. Thank you, lancer.
- 13:02Speaker 2: Alan.
- 13:02Speaker 1: Let's continue and talk about the Tampa Bay Buccaneer here,
- 13:05Speaker 1: not the nineteenth pick, but just how much our hearts
- 13:08Speaker 1: hurt collectively today for that man Shack Barrett, who and
- 13:12Speaker 1: his wife Jordana lost their two year old daughter this
- 13:16Speaker 1: past weekend. It happened Sunday morning when little Ariah, who
- 13:19Speaker 1: just turned to just had a birthday, drowned in the
- 13:23Speaker 1: family pool, drowned in the backyard pool. Statement from the
- 13:26Speaker 1: Buccaneers on Sunday, our thoughts and prayers there were Shacked,
- 13:29Speaker 1: Jordana and the entire Barrett family during this unimaginably difficult time. Well,
- 13:34Speaker 1: no words can provide true comfort at a times such
- 13:36Speaker 1: as this. We offer our support and love as they
- 13:39Speaker 1: begin to process this very profound loss of their beloved Riah.
- 13:44Speaker 3: Sarah Walsh with us.
- 13:45Speaker 1: Now Sarah, like I said, she just turned two, like
- 13:48Speaker 1: the photos on Shaq's instagram of this little girl with
- 13:52Speaker 1: her birthday a couple of weeks ago.
- 13:54Speaker 2: It is just heartbreaking.
- 13:57Speaker 9: There's no other way to describe it. And I can
- 13:59Speaker 9: tell you from this community in Tampa, when this news
- 14:03Speaker 9: came out, people are horrified, their heartbroken, and that doesn't
- 14:06Speaker 9: even begin to scratch the surface of what the Barrett
- 14:09Speaker 9: family is feeling. What I can tell you is if
- 14:12Speaker 9: you ask anyone in that Buccaneers building to describe Shack Barrett,
- 14:16Speaker 9: he's described as a family man. And that's not something
- 14:19Speaker 9: that's being thrown around because of what happened this week.
- 14:21Speaker 9: You talked about his instagram. You can look at that instagram.
- 14:24Speaker 9: It is littered with pictures of nothing but his family.
- 14:27Speaker 9: The last thing he posted and you touched on this
- 14:30Speaker 9: was a tribute to his daughter who passed away on Sunday.
- 14:34Speaker 9: People are in shock.
- 14:36Speaker 3: There's just no way to explain it.
- 14:38Speaker 9: You don't have to be an NFL fan, you don't
- 14:40Speaker 9: have to be a Buccaneers fan. There's not a parent
- 14:43Speaker 9: that took their kid to school on Monday morning and
- 14:46Speaker 9: wasn't talking about what happened here, because it really touches
- 14:49Speaker 9: people on a different level. Of course, we have not
- 14:51Speaker 9: understandably heard from Shack or his wife. They haven't said anything.
- 14:55Speaker 9: The Buccaneers put out that statement. This is someone that
- 14:58Speaker 9: moved here in twenty nineteen when he signed with the
- 15:00Speaker 9: Buccaneers and embraced being part of the Tampa Bay community.
- 15:03Speaker 9: In that first year, he had nineteen and a half sacks.
- 15:06Speaker 9: The family moved here. They had four children. Ariyah was
- 15:09Speaker 9: born just a couple of months after he won that
- 15:11Speaker 9: Super Bowl. This is really tough on all levels. It
- 15:15Speaker 9: obviously supersedes football. Shack is regularly seen around that facility
- 15:19Speaker 9: in the offseason. He was working his way back from
- 15:22Speaker 9: a torn achilles suffered last football season, and he's also
- 15:25Speaker 9: known for being just this positive force on the defense.
- 15:28Speaker 9: Even when he got hurt, he had a smile on
- 15:30Speaker 9: his face when you saw him in the building. He
- 15:32Speaker 9: immediately posted, I'm not in pain.
- 15:34Speaker 3: I'm coming back.
- 15:35Speaker 9: And this is just something that there is nothing that
- 15:38Speaker 9: can prepare you for dealing with something like this. I
- 15:41Speaker 9: even thought about in the last couple of days, had
- 15:43Speaker 9: even come on TV and talk about it, and what
- 15:45Speaker 9: are the right things to say? And there are no
- 15:47Speaker 9: right things, because there is nothing right now that is
- 15:49Speaker 9: going to make this any more understandable to anyone that
- 15:53Speaker 9: learns about this story. So I would just say that collectively,
- 15:57Speaker 9: as someone that lives in the Tampa Bay area and
- 15:59Speaker 9: is in this community, if this community could wrap their
- 16:02Speaker 9: arms around Shaq Barrett and his Bami, they would do
- 16:06Speaker 9: that right now.
- 16:06Speaker 1: And it had and it has since day one since,
- 16:09Speaker 1: as you said, since he moved from Denver there with
- 16:11Speaker 1: his family. Our condolences from all of us here at
- 16:14Speaker 1: NFL Network, in the NFL Media Group, as well to
- 16:16Speaker 1: Shack Barrett, his wife, Georgana, and their beautiful family. Thank you,
- 16:21Speaker 1: Sarah Walsh there live in Tampa. NFL now continues.
- 16:29Speaker 9: Rinney.
- 16:30Speaker 5: First pick in the twenty twenty three NFL Draft, the
- 16:33Speaker 5: Carolina Panthers select Ryce Young.
- 16:36Speaker 3: Media rights Young Friend what is striped? The Houston Texans
- 16:41Speaker 3: select CJ.
- 16:42Speaker 5: Stroud Burnback Hey touch down thirty one yards CJ.
- 16:47Speaker 2: Strout.
- 16:48Speaker 5: The Indian would select Indony Brats.
- 16:54Speaker 10: The Tennessee Titans select Will Levin, Burnbacks.
- 16:58Speaker 3: Levens fires throws at dark.
- 17:00Speaker 11: Your teammates don't care where you were drafted, whether it
- 17:02Speaker 11: was a meurs your second round.
- 17:03Speaker 2: They care if you can come in and help one
- 17:05Speaker 2: football game.
- 17:06Speaker 10: So Detroit Lions select Endon Hooker, which quarterback Tennesseeason.
- 17:10Speaker 4: There's the throw, there's the tucks back to the same
- 17:12Speaker 4: hooker's back.
- 17:16Speaker 2: They went to the.
- 17:16Speaker 1: Second round, and he thought they might go in the first.
- 17:19Speaker 1: And then the board falls the way it falls, and
- 17:21Speaker 1: now Will Levis is a tight and and ended Hooker
- 17:24Speaker 1: is a Lion. They are second round picks.
- 17:27Speaker 2: Where neither is being asked to start.
- 17:29Speaker 1: Immediately week one in twenty twenty three? Which guy is
- 17:34Speaker 1: in the better situation? About the path to the draft
- 17:37Speaker 1: through rest like a second to last day of school?
- 17:42Speaker 2: Hi, what's up? Friends? Path to the draft?
- 17:45Speaker 12: Now?
- 17:45Speaker 11: Taking a look in the rearview mirror, Red Lewis, Bucky Brooks,
- 17:49Speaker 11: as the dust is settling on the two hundred and
- 17:51Speaker 11: fifty nine selections in the twenty twenty three NFL Draft,
- 17:54Speaker 11: fourteen of which ended up as quarterbacks. Three on Day one,
- 17:59Speaker 11: Two intriguing selections on Day two, and that's.
- 18:02Speaker 2: Where we begin.
- 18:03Speaker 11: Which quarterback on two you had Will Levis going to
- 18:06Speaker 11: the second round of the Titans, Hindon Hooker going in
- 18:08Speaker 11: the third round of the Detroit Lions. Do you think
- 18:10Speaker 11: ended up in a better situation?
- 18:12Speaker 12: Book.
- 18:12Speaker 5: Oh, Will Levison's up in a better situation. The situation
- 18:15Speaker 5: is great for him because he has an opportunity to
- 18:17Speaker 5: really be the longtime starter in Tennessee.
- 18:21Speaker 2: You think about what they did.
- 18:22Speaker 5: To move up to get him at the top of
- 18:23Speaker 5: the second round, and now he steps into a situation
- 18:26Speaker 5: where he has a two time rushing chap and Derrick
- 18:28Speaker 5: Henry behind him. Physical running game will set up play
- 18:31Speaker 5: action passes.
- 18:32Speaker 2: When you look at his game, his game.
- 18:34Speaker 5: Is not necessarily about accuracy and picking you apart. It's
- 18:37Speaker 5: about big time plays. As an athlete with supreme arm talent. Well,
- 18:41Speaker 5: now that you're running the ball with the down here
- 18:42Speaker 5: running game playmakers on the outside, this should serve will
- 18:46Speaker 5: Levis will he should be able to grow into that
- 18:48Speaker 5: role as the start.
- 18:49Speaker 2: Yeah went and helped him out a little bit.
- 18:50Speaker 11: Maybe down the line, Peter Scronski comes over and then
- 18:54Speaker 11: you get of course ty J. Spears, and you get
- 18:57Speaker 11: the tight end and Wiley as well. Up to light
- 18:59Speaker 11: there about the Titans in their pick of Will Levis,
- 19:02Speaker 11: but I think that Hindon Hooker is set up in
- 19:06Speaker 11: a better situation to succeed Jared goff Is there will
- 19:10Speaker 11: be the starter this year. Ending Hooker with the knee injury,
- 19:13Speaker 11: We'll have plenty of time to get that thing right,
- 19:16Speaker 11: to get accustomed to life and football in Detroit, and
- 19:20Speaker 11: then we can talk about the potential of becoming the
- 19:23Speaker 11: face of the franchise. And when we do, he'll be
- 19:26Speaker 11: staring at guys like a Manra Saint Brown, guys like
- 19:29Speaker 11: Jamier Gibbs who were brought in this year ahead of
- 19:33Speaker 11: him to continue to help support that offensive structure with
- 19:37Speaker 11: the Lions. I think there's a lot to like about
- 19:39Speaker 11: ending Hooker on a team that is sending a culture
- 19:43Speaker 11: that is ready for a player that is as mature
- 19:45Speaker 11: as he is and is ready to be a face
- 19:47Speaker 11: of the franchise when called one. I really like Hndon
- 19:49Speaker 11: Hooker ending up there in Detroit, So those two quarterbacks
- 19:52Speaker 11: end up in pretty good spots there in Day two.
- 19:56Speaker 11: Just great to have the quarterbacks back part of the
- 19:58Speaker 11: conversation early in the draft. Three in the first four
- 20:01Speaker 11: and common Draft era record eleven in the first one fifties.
- 20:05Speaker 11: So fun weekend for the quarterbacks. Be sure to join
- 20:08Speaker 11: us Tuesday and Wednesday night, six pm Eastern Time as
- 20:12Speaker 11: we continue looking back on the twenty twenty three NFL Draft.
- 20:16Speaker 7: With the thirty first pick of the twenty twenty three
- 20:20Speaker 7: NFL Draft, the Kansas City Chiefs select Felix and your.
- 20:24Speaker 1: D k Uzama.
- 20:26Speaker 6: The Kansas City chief select Ross Shee Rice wide receiver SMU.
- 20:33Speaker 6: With the ninety second pick in the twenty twenty three
- 20:37Speaker 6: NFL Draft, the Kansas City Chiefs select je Ye Morris
- 20:42Speaker 6: tackle from Oklahoma.
- 20:47Speaker 1: Yeah, they had a party in Kansas City, not just
- 20:48Speaker 1: the draft, but.
- 20:49Speaker 2: They liked who they picked as well.
- 20:51Speaker 1: A hometown draft here for the defending champions, Tef White
- 20:54Speaker 1: and Jeff Gidia with me from Casey, where all the
- 20:57Speaker 1: eyes and the focus have been on Fau at thirty one.
- 21:01Speaker 1: What are they saying about Rashi Rice here and what
- 21:03Speaker 1: he gives Patrick Mahomes that offense.
- 21:06Speaker 12: Well, they love Rashid Rice Andrew because when you talk
- 21:09Speaker 12: about a team that just lost Juju Smith Schusch to
- 21:12Speaker 12: their really true possession wide receiver, they wanted to find
- 21:15Speaker 12: somebody who could fit into that role. And certainly takes
- 21:17Speaker 12: receivers a little bit of time to pick up Andy
- 21:19Speaker 12: Reid's offense, but this kid looks like he could be
- 21:21Speaker 12: special for them. He's great. After the catch. He's a
- 21:24Speaker 12: great contested catch guy, really good size, not the greatest
- 21:29Speaker 12: feed in the world.
- 21:29Speaker 2: But again, they wanted somebody.
- 21:30Speaker 12: Who could move the chains and be that kind of
- 21:33Speaker 12: player who could fit in with the sky Moores, the
- 21:35Speaker 12: Cadarius Tony's people like that. So Brett Beech, the Gerald manager, said,
- 21:39Speaker 12: he feels like this guy when the ball gets in
- 21:41Speaker 12: his hands, he's like a running back and Steve, you know,
- 21:43Speaker 12: the guy to win the passes. All he has to
- 21:45Speaker 12: do is get the ball these guys that they can
- 21:47Speaker 12: make plays for.
- 21:48Speaker 8: Yeah, absolutely, that's how Andy reives offense works. But Jeff,
- 21:51Speaker 8: the one thing we saw again with the Chiefs is
- 21:53Speaker 8: they tag defense hard for the second straight year in
- 21:56Speaker 8: the draft, getting two edge guys, getting two secondary guys.
- 21:59Speaker 2: I mean, this is where they went the year before.
- 22:01Speaker 8: So you know they're developing guys to fill in for
- 22:04Speaker 8: players who might not be there the following year. And
- 22:07Speaker 8: also they understand these are two positions, especially the fact
- 22:10Speaker 8: that they went back to the cornerback well after doing
- 22:13Speaker 8: it last season, and the edge, well, they know what
- 22:17Speaker 8: division that they play in the quarterbacks that they're going
- 22:19Speaker 8: to be playing against, you've got to have a surplus
- 22:21Speaker 8: of edge rushers, and you've got to have a surplus
- 22:24Speaker 8: of defensive backs to roll through because you're going to
- 22:27Speaker 8: be facing Russell Wilson and Justin Herbert in that division,
- 22:30Speaker 8: now Jimmy Garoppolo.
- 22:32Speaker 2: So again they've got an.
- 22:33Speaker 8: Eye on keeping things in winning ways, but also stacking
- 22:36Speaker 8: that defense through the draft in the secondary, so they
- 22:40Speaker 8: could continue to build and roll knowing the quarterbacks are
- 22:42Speaker 8: going to be facing for years.
- 22:43Speaker 2: All right, those are the Chiefs.
- 22:44Speaker 1: How about now they're nemesis in the AFC, the Cincinnati Bengals.
- 22:49Speaker 1: Their draft class has a theme here. It's a defensive
- 22:52Speaker 1: run early and then that offensive run in the middle.
- 22:55Speaker 1: You go Miles Murphy, DJ Turner and George Battle the
- 22:59Speaker 1: Alabama DV and now Charlie Jones and Chase Brown one
- 23:02Speaker 1: of the Brown twins from Illinois and andre Yoshiva Steve
- 23:05Speaker 1: Princeton wide receiver. Gidia. What stands out to you here?
- 23:11Speaker 12: I love the day three picks there, especially Charlie Jones
- 23:14Speaker 12: and four and Chase Brown at five because it speaks
- 23:16Speaker 12: to how much this franchise has grown and the luxury
- 23:19Speaker 12: they have on Draft Day now because they can go
- 23:21Speaker 12: out and get players that can fill roles immediately or
- 23:24Speaker 12: they can fill roles that'll be available down the road.
- 23:26Speaker 12: And with Charlie Jones, you have a receiver there who
- 23:28Speaker 12: was really dynamic in the Big Ten last year. Great
- 23:33Speaker 12: catching the football. I mean, this guy really dropped anything.
- 23:35Speaker 12: And he could be the kind of guy who replaces
- 23:37Speaker 12: a Tyler Boyd when Boys countract is up next year.
- 23:39Speaker 12: Is a slot guy. And then Chase Brown you see
- 23:41Speaker 12: here second to the league in the country and rushing
- 23:44Speaker 12: Zach Taylor. He coach talked about how he really fits
- 23:46Speaker 12: into what they want to do. There, a guy who's
- 23:48Speaker 12: got great vision, great balance, great pass blocker, great pass catcher,
- 23:53Speaker 12: Steve They.
- 23:54Speaker 2: Got a lot of guys here.
- 23:55Speaker 12: You do a lot of things for a team that's
- 23:56Speaker 12: already pretty good.
- 23:58Speaker 2: Absolutely. You know.
- 23:59Speaker 8: Look, I love the fact that they go Dj Turner
- 24:01Speaker 8: at corner, right his teammates, former teammates already on the
- 24:05Speaker 8: field at safety who they drafted last year. Dax Shiale
- 24:07Speaker 8: is gonna take over for Jesse Bates. So now there's
- 24:10Speaker 8: some familiarity. They know they've got some good starters in
- 24:13Speaker 8: those positions. But again, they can start grooming these guys
- 24:15Speaker 8: to be rotational players, to add this speed right that
- 24:19Speaker 8: they're getting at someone like Turner. That's gonna help knowing
- 24:21Speaker 8: the receivers that they're gonna have to face coming along
- 24:24Speaker 8: the way.
- 24:24Speaker 2: Odell Beckham junior knock knock.
- 24:26Speaker 8: He's in that division the season, So there's some players there.
- 24:29Speaker 8: And they continued to add to the secondary Jordan Battle
- 24:32Speaker 8: safety out of Alabama.
- 24:33Speaker 2: This is a heck of a player.
- 24:35Speaker 8: And again they're looking at some of the players that
- 24:37Speaker 8: they have on the roster who they could be replacing
- 24:39Speaker 8: in future years and to add someone like him who
- 24:42Speaker 8: could come in and play a lot of different roles.
- 24:43Speaker 8: You can be your heavy nickel, he can play in
- 24:46Speaker 8: the safety, a rotational player who's also.
- 24:47Speaker 2: Going to be willing to play in the kicking game.
- 24:49Speaker 8: They've done a fantastic job of stocking their roster in
- 24:53Speaker 8: the draft, knowing they've got some big contracts Joey Burrow,
- 24:57Speaker 8: Jamar Chase, some guys are gonna have to pay so
- 24:59Speaker 8: to get this many talented players on rookie deals, that's huge.
- 25:02Speaker 2: That's great thinking boy, Duke Tobin and that staff.
- 25:05Speaker 1: And they do that with t Higgins still in the
- 25:07Speaker 1: payroll and Joe Mixon still on the payroll, and Zach
- 25:10Speaker 1: Taylor said after the draft they want Joe Mixon there,
- 25:13Speaker 1: but that.
- 25:13Speaker 2: Is a very big number for him.
- 25:16Speaker 1: Similar situation for Frank.
- 25:18Speaker 2: Steve White Beck, Jeff Jdea.
- 25:23Speaker 1: Everybody remembers the draft because then we go back for
- 25:26Speaker 1: years we try to figure out who did right and
- 25:28Speaker 1: who did wrong. And now we can do that right now,
- 25:31Speaker 1: only three days with the draft in the rear view.
- 25:33Speaker 1: Mary Trevor Sycamore joins us from PFF. Trevor, great to
- 25:36Speaker 1: have you on. As always, Let's look at the Cardinals draft.
- 25:38Speaker 1: Paris Johnson will go down as their first round pick
- 25:41Speaker 1: this season, but what Mani Austin Ford did is much
- 25:46Speaker 1: bigger than just taking an old lineman from Ohio State.
- 25:49Speaker 2: No, there's no doubt about it.
- 25:50Speaker 10: It's a new era in Arizona. I absolutely loved what
- 25:54Speaker 10: Austin Ford was able to do in his first draft
- 25:56Speaker 10: as general manager.
- 25:57Speaker 3: I mean, first and foremost.
- 25:58Speaker 10: I'm pretty sure they would have picked Paris Johnson at
- 26:00Speaker 10: number three overall, and instead he's not afraid to move back,
- 26:04Speaker 10: then move up again, and at the end of the
- 26:05Speaker 10: day he gets the player he would have selected at
- 26:08Speaker 10: three three spots lower and has an extra first rounder
- 26:13Speaker 10: and third rounder next year. Now they got two first
- 26:15Speaker 10: rounders in twenty twenty four, a second rounder, and three
- 26:18Speaker 10: third rounders. That is huge for a draft class that
- 26:21Speaker 10: has a ton of promise. Of course, Paris just helps
- 26:24Speaker 10: them in general. This is the thirtieth ranked offensive line
- 26:26Speaker 10: according to PFF grades last year. So you get a
- 26:29Speaker 10: really talented young offensive lineman in there who you're hoping
- 26:33Speaker 10: you could have for at least the next half decade
- 26:35Speaker 10: for the Arizona to get to that winning window once again.
- 26:38Speaker 10: We know it's going to be a while, but he's
- 26:40Speaker 10: a really good cornerstone piece, and so are the other
- 26:42Speaker 10: three guys that they drafted right after that too. I
- 26:44Speaker 10: think they could have four starters from the first four
- 26:48Speaker 10: picks they made in this past draft. It was a
- 26:50Speaker 10: fantastic call frozen four in his first year.
- 26:52Speaker 1: Yeah, and then you're sitting there next year with even
- 26:54Speaker 1: more draft capital.
- 26:55Speaker 3: And I'm not saying it's a lock.
- 26:57Speaker 1: They have two top five picks next year. It could
- 26:59Speaker 1: be ten to twenty, who knows, but they have two
- 27:02Speaker 1: first round picks next season. Continue to build. Let's talk
- 27:06Speaker 1: about the Giants first round pick a couple of days ago.
- 27:09Speaker 1: Here at Trevor, why do you think Deontay Banks is
- 27:11Speaker 1: such a good fit there?
- 27:13Speaker 3: From Wink Martindale.
- 27:14Speaker 10: This is not just a good fit, this is a
- 27:17Speaker 10: perfect fit. I love Deontay Banks because of the type
- 27:20Speaker 10: of corner he is in man coverage. He has the
- 27:22Speaker 10: athletic ability, the body type, and the play style to say,
- 27:25Speaker 10: all right, we're gonna point this wide receiver out, you
- 27:27Speaker 10: go cover him and you make sure he doesn't catch
- 27:29Speaker 10: any passes. That is what Deontay Banks is and that's
- 27:32Speaker 10: how the Giants played don Wig Martindale, he called cover
- 27:36Speaker 10: zero and cover one of those man coverage concepts more
- 27:39Speaker 10: than any team in the NFL last year as accumulation
- 27:41Speaker 10: those two those two person nugger beings, and that's the
- 27:44Speaker 10: exact kind of corner he is. That's the guy that
- 27:46Speaker 10: they needed if they want to get aggressive up front
- 27:49Speaker 10: the linebacker level and at the line of scrimmage, you
- 27:51Speaker 10: have to have the corners to be able to match
- 27:53Speaker 10: up in man coverage. They just got another good one
- 27:55Speaker 10: and this was a perfect fit for me.
- 27:57Speaker 3: I love this selection.
- 27:58Speaker 1: Brandon Beian said yesterday on the radio on Sirius XAM
- 28:01Speaker 1: that they didn't want to lose Dalton Kincaid. I mean,
- 28:04Speaker 1: that's why they flipped the and moved up to get him.
- 28:06Speaker 1: How does he change what Josh Allen is doing.
- 28:10Speaker 10: Yeah, I didn't even know if Dalon kin k was
- 28:12Speaker 10: going to be available within striking distance, and once he was,
- 28:15Speaker 10: it makes total sense for the Bills to kind of
- 28:17Speaker 10: come up and get it.
- 28:17Speaker 12: Now.
- 28:17Speaker 10: It's a little bit of a change in strategy from
- 28:19Speaker 10: what they were last year. They already have Dawston Knock,
- 28:21Speaker 10: they already gave him a good contract. We know he's
- 28:23Speaker 10: going to be a big part of their offense. But
- 28:25Speaker 10: the Buffalo Bills actually played twelve personnel, so multiple tight ends.
- 28:30Speaker 3: The least in the NFL. Last year, only.
- 28:32Speaker 10: Eight percent of their personnel snaps came from multi tenand
- 28:36Speaker 10: sets at twelve personnel, so only one hundred snaps there.
- 28:38Speaker 10: And your figure they're going to get Daldon Kinkaid and
- 28:41Speaker 10: Dawston Knocks on the field at the same time, so
- 28:43Speaker 10: it's going to be a little bit of a different
- 28:44Speaker 10: look Bill's offense with KINGK there now. So I'm wondering
- 28:49Speaker 10: how much.
- 28:49Speaker 3: They push into that. Is this just going to be
- 28:51Speaker 3: a whole new identity for them?
- 28:53Speaker 10: Are they really going to lean into multiple tight ends
- 28:55Speaker 10: or is it going to be a little bit less.
- 28:57Speaker 10: They just want to make sure they're incredibly effective when
- 29:00Speaker 10: they do call that twelve personnel don Kink. No matter
- 29:03Speaker 10: what percentage it is, he's going to help him out.
- 29:06Speaker 10: One of the best receiving tight ends that we had
- 29:07Speaker 10: in this dram.
- 29:08Speaker 1: Maybe it cuts out of the red zone turnovers with
- 29:10Speaker 1: another big target there in the red zone.
- 29:13Speaker 2: In Dalton Kincaid.
- 29:14Speaker 1: Thank you, Trevor Sikima. Check out PFF dot com, PFF app.
- 29:17Speaker 3: Thanks appreciate it. Coming to the floor.
- 29:19Speaker 10: I won.
- 29:20Speaker 3: I'm ripping off the best I.
- 29:21Speaker 7: Was on the floor.
