- 1:30Speaker 1: Nice doll you have there. What's up?
- 1:35Speaker 2: Welcome to Movie Meltdown. I'm Brian.
- 1:37Speaker 6: I'm Misty. And I'm Jay.
- 1:40Speaker 2: And we're coming to you live via digital recording from
- 1:43Speaker 2: the town of Lexington, home of the Lexington Comic and
- 1:46Speaker 2: Toy Convention.
- 1:48Speaker 1: From the parking lot.
- 1:49Speaker 2: Which we... Well, we're always on the outskirts of any convention.
- 1:52Speaker 2: They like it that way. They want to keep us
- 1:54Speaker 2: as far away from people as possible.
- 1:56Speaker 6: That's for the best.
- 1:56Speaker 2: And we're okay with that, too. So, today, we re-entered post-Wonderfest.
- 2:03Speaker 2: We've gone back out into the world, into convention land,
- 2:07Speaker 2: which we have not seen in quite a while, otherwise.
- 2:09Speaker 6: I'm okay with that. It's an adjustment. I've missed it,
- 2:14Speaker 6: and I've not missed it all at the same time, because...
- 2:18Speaker 6: I like the stuff. I like stuff.
- 2:20Speaker 2: I'm trying to control my stuff buying because I am
- 2:23Speaker 2: far out of room for more stuff. But I do
- 2:27Speaker 2: like stuff. It's a fight to keep me away.
- 2:30Speaker 1: From the stuff.
- 2:31Speaker 6: And it was like going to a whole new convention
- 2:33Speaker 6: this year because they changed everything.
- 2:35Speaker 2: Yeah, everything was in a new spot. They've completely redone
- 2:39Speaker 2: the whole arena that it's located in and that made
- 2:43Speaker 2: things very different this time around.
- 2:44Speaker 1: No more peeing in the Hyatt.
- 2:47Speaker 2: We can make a special trip over there probably I
- 2:50Speaker 2: don't know that they'll appreciate it.
- 2:52Speaker 1: For anybody that doesn't know The convention center was attached
- 2:55Speaker 1: to the Hyatt Hotel And they separated the two So
- 3:00Speaker 1: now Now you can no longer use The nice fancy
- 3:05Speaker 1: bathrooms in the Hyatt You have to use the regular
- 3:07Speaker 1: old convention bathroom.
- 3:08Speaker 2: Yeah it was just one big hallway More or less
- 3:10Speaker 2: and then right off to the side Was this big
- 3:13Speaker 2: open area that just went Right into this fancy hotel
- 3:15Speaker 2: area And now it's not like that.
- 3:18Speaker 1: I don't know about you, Brian, because I didn't use
- 3:21Speaker 1: the bathrooms right off the entrance where everybody else was.
- 3:26Speaker 1: I kind of went off to the side entrance of
- 3:30Speaker 1: the exhibition hall and used the bathrooms off to the
- 3:33Speaker 1: side because I don't like a lot of people. And,
- 3:37Speaker 1: you know, it's less people. No waiting. The bathrooms off
- 3:42Speaker 1: to the side were actually really nice.
- 3:45Speaker 2: They were pretty spacious. So, I mean, I guess they're
- 3:47Speaker 2: planning for large convention-y type things.
- 3:49Speaker 6: I guess.
- 3:50Speaker 2: Because it was pretty big.
- 3:51Speaker 1: Did they have the floor to, all the way to
- 3:54Speaker 1: the floor mirror so you can check your costumes? I
- 3:58Speaker 1: don't think I noticed that. Because they did at that
- 4:00Speaker 1: one that I went to. They had the full-length mirror.
- 4:03Speaker 6: Were you checking your costume?
- 4:04Speaker 1: I was checking my costume.
- 4:06Speaker 6: And what costume are you? Me. Oh, well, how'd that
- 4:09Speaker 6: work out for you?
- 4:09Speaker 1: Pretty good.
- 4:10Speaker 2: He looks pretty much like Jay.
- 4:12Speaker 6: Yeah. He could have fooled me. I mean, I would
- 4:14Speaker 6: have totally thought it was him.
- 4:17Speaker 2: It's a really good cosplay, man.
- 4:18Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 4:19Speaker 1: Yeah, I heard there was a girl in the convention that.
- 4:24Speaker 6: In the men's bathroom?
- 4:25Speaker 1: No, no, no.
- 4:25Speaker 6: At the convention.
- 4:26Speaker 2: Family bathrooms. It's okay.
- 4:28Speaker 1: That was at the table, and the lady asked her,
- 4:31Speaker 1: she goes, are you into anime? And she goes, yeah, actually,
- 4:34Speaker 1: I'm cosplaying right now. And the lady's like, oh.
- 4:37Speaker 6: Yeah, I heard the same thing. She had no idea.
- 4:39Speaker 2: You sure are anime.
- 4:41Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 4:42Speaker 6: What?
- 4:43Speaker 2: Look how big your eyes are.
- 4:45Speaker 6: Yeah. Anyway.
- 4:48Speaker 1: There was a lot of cosplaying going on. A lot
- 4:49Speaker 1: of anime.
- 4:50Speaker 2: A lot of anime. I always know because I'm like,
- 4:54Speaker 2: I can tell you're in an outfit, but I don't
- 4:56Speaker 2: know what it's from.
- 4:56Speaker 1: You got spiky hair.
- 4:57Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 4:58Speaker 1: You got swords.
- 4:58Speaker 2: You got a big collar. You got some sort of
- 5:00Speaker 2: crazy glasses. There's always some sort of crazy accessory.
- 5:03Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm old anime, so I'm like, I left off
- 5:06Speaker 1: with Akira, Fist of the North Star, Ninja Scroll.
- 5:09Speaker 2: I have a copy of Vampire Hunter D at home.
- 5:11Speaker 1: Yeah, Vampire Hunter D.
- 5:12Speaker 2: That's about as far as it goes.
- 5:13Speaker 1: Battle Angel, Alita, stuff like that, like older stuff. I
- 5:16Speaker 1: haven't watched anime since then, so.
- 5:18Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 5:19Speaker 1: I don't think most of these kids were around when
- 5:21Speaker 1: I was watching anime.
- 5:22Speaker 2: I'd be willing to bet none of them.
- 5:23Speaker 1: Like I said, it was.
- 5:24Speaker 2: Just about.
- 5:25Speaker 6: I mean, he's young and whippersnappers.
- 5:26Speaker 1: It was mostly me. Yeah, I feel old now.
- 5:28Speaker 6: Now?
- 5:29Speaker 1: It's mostly, like, me and a couple other sweaty guys and,
- 5:34Speaker 1: you know, maybe a few other... A few other of
- 5:37Speaker 1: my Asian friends that were into anime that would get
- 5:40Speaker 1: anime from the Oriental grocery stores, you know?
- 5:45Speaker 2: We didn't have your fancy anime streaming service like you
- 5:49Speaker 2: kids got.
- 5:49Speaker 6: Got that damn hentai and shit.
- 5:52Speaker 2: We had to order them off of not even internet.
- 5:55Speaker 2: We had to go mail order and get a bootleg
- 5:58Speaker 2: VHS tape.
- 5:59Speaker 1: Yeah, either that or we had one of our friends
- 6:05Speaker 1: who owned a comic book shop. She would go to
- 6:07Speaker 1: the huge convention. I guess she would go to Dragon Con.
- 6:12Speaker 1: She'd go there, and then she would also go to
- 6:14Speaker 1: Japan and pick up stuff for us.
- 6:16Speaker 2: That's hardcore now.
- 6:17Speaker 1: And bring it back. Well, that's how I got my
- 6:19Speaker 1: copy of Crying Freeman on VHS, because it was not
- 6:25Speaker 1: available in the United States. You couldn't get it. And
- 6:30Speaker 1: I wanted that movie so bad. And it was in,
- 6:33Speaker 1: I guess I read the anime, and I guess when
- 6:39Speaker 1: they shot the movie, it ended up in Fangoria. And
- 6:43Speaker 1: Mark Dacascos was the star. So I was pretty excited
- 6:47Speaker 1: about that. Because I like Mark Dacascos. He's pretty cool.
- 6:51Speaker 1: That was my request. Because she would get one thing
- 6:53Speaker 1: for everybody. Write down what you want and I'll go
- 6:56Speaker 1: to the convention and see if I can find it.
- 6:59Speaker 1: It was awesome. And she got me that copy of
- 7:02Speaker 1: Crying Freeman. And I still have it on VHS. It's somewhere.
- 7:07Speaker 1: It's probably in my office.
- 7:09Speaker 6: In the trunk.
- 7:10Speaker 1: It's not in the trunk because it's not a crow-related item.
- 7:13Speaker 6: Oh, my bad.
- 7:14Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 7:16Speaker 2: So there.
- 7:16Speaker 6: So is stuff in the trunk just the crow?
- 7:18Speaker 1: Everything that's in the trunk is just crow stuff. That's
- 7:21Speaker 1: why it's the crow trunk.
- 7:23Speaker 2: Previously mentioned crow trunk. No, I thought we went over this.
- 7:27Speaker 2: I'm pretty sure we've covered it.
- 7:28Speaker 1: Yeah, we covered this.
- 7:29Speaker 6: I thought you might have a few things, like a
- 7:30Speaker 6: few other things.
- 7:32Speaker 1: I think there's, I think, I'm not 100% sure, but
- 7:35Speaker 1: I think there are two foam-covered, bats in there.
- 7:40Speaker 6: So those aren't related to the crow at all no
- 7:43Speaker 6: so is it now they're not now hitherto forth known
- 7:46Speaker 6: as the crow and the bats.
- 7:47Speaker 2: Well see i don't know if the bats are in
- 7:49Speaker 2: there maybe they were like in the original screenplay like
- 7:52Speaker 2: they hung around with the skull cowboy and they got
- 7:55Speaker 2: cut out of the finished version.
- 7:56Speaker 1: Oh no these aren't like like flappy wing bats these
- 8:00Speaker 1: are to play along these are little little foam covered
- 8:03Speaker 1: bats that we used to use to beat the crap
- 8:05Speaker 1: out of each other so.
- 8:06Speaker 6: When you were pretending to be in The Crow.
- 8:09Speaker 4: No.
- 8:09Speaker 6: I was trying to help you out. Oh, yeah, whatever.
- 8:12Speaker 2: Oh, I was trying to remember what the one I had. Like,
- 8:16Speaker 2: the first one I got, which, again, like, literally, I
- 8:19Speaker 2: had to go find it on, there were, kids, you
- 8:24Speaker 2: don't understand. There was, like, people that would, like, have
- 8:27Speaker 2: VHS tapes of, like, weird stuff that you couldn't find
- 8:30Speaker 2: anywhere else. And it was like, not even like a catalog,
- 8:33Speaker 2: it was like a list. It was like you'd order
- 8:35Speaker 2: it up, you'd find it in the back of some
- 8:37Speaker 2: magazine or you'd hear about it from somebody and you'd
- 8:40Speaker 2: like send them like your address and they'd send you
- 8:43Speaker 2: like a list stapled together. It was just like you
- 8:46Speaker 2: don't get photos, you don't get anything else. It was
- 8:47Speaker 2: just like the title and like a one sentence minor description.
- 8:54Speaker 1: If you're lucky.
- 8:55Speaker 2: Yeah, I was like sometimes it's just the title.
- 8:56Speaker 1: Most of the time it was just the title that
- 8:58Speaker 1: I saw.
- 8:58Speaker 2: I was trying to decide if it was Demon City Apocalypse?
- 9:01Speaker 1: Oh, Demon City Apocalypse.
- 9:02Speaker 2: That's a thing, right?
- 9:03Speaker 1: I think so.
- 9:04Speaker 2: It's been so long I cannot even remember it. I
- 9:06Speaker 2: think I blind ordered that. I was like, they're saying
- 9:09Speaker 2: this is crazy. And I'm like, I ordered it. I
- 9:12Speaker 2: was like, oh, all right, well.
- 9:15Speaker 6: That was a thing.
- 9:16Speaker 2: Yep, there's some weird stuff going on here.
- 9:19Speaker 1: See, I remember getting the copy because people would make
- 9:26Speaker 1: copies of different tapes and stuff. You need to watch this.
- 9:30Speaker 1: You need to watch this. Yeah. Uh, you're a soccer doji,
- 9:34Speaker 1: a legend of the overfiend.
- 9:36Speaker 2: Yeah. I know that one by title. I never got
- 9:38Speaker 2: to it. Cause again, I, I heard stories about it.
- 9:40Speaker 1: You don't need to see it unless you like tentacle penises. Uh, no,
- 9:45Speaker 1: you don't really.
- 9:45Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah.
- 9:47Speaker 2: Well, that was like the demon city. Like there was
- 9:49Speaker 2: some weird stuff going on there and it was mostly
- 9:52Speaker 2: weird sexual stuff.
- 9:53Speaker 1: It was weird, but not regular sexual i was like
- 9:56Speaker 1: weird sexual what the fuck is this holy shit because
- 10:01Speaker 1: it wasn't like i mean i'm over here watching street
- 10:04Speaker 1: fighter you know or you know whatever i mean you
- 10:08Speaker 1: just you just got finished watching akira and then they've
- 10:11Speaker 1: got this akira is kind of You know, it had
- 10:14Speaker 1: some weird shit in it.
- 10:15Speaker 2: It was weird, but not like that kind of weird.
- 10:18Speaker 2: Not that kind of weird. It was just, again, it's
- 10:20Speaker 2: still kind of groundbreaking. It was, yeah. It was alternate
- 10:24Speaker 2: universe kind of weird. They were like, this is cool. Not,
- 10:28Speaker 2: that girl's doing something with that demon. And wait, is
- 10:31Speaker 2: she flipping upside down?
- 10:32Speaker 6: Oh, wait.
- 10:33Speaker 2: Now she's doing another thing while she's on that thing.
- 10:35Speaker 2: And then she's, oh, that's. That seems like that would
- 10:37Speaker 2: hurt a lot.
- 10:38Speaker 1: Yeah, that's hentai before, I guess hentai, hentai, whatever, before
- 10:42Speaker 1: we knew what it was. Yeah. That was the, I
- 10:48Speaker 1: didn't even get through that. I was like, yeah, I
- 10:50Speaker 1: don't really want to watch this.
- 10:52Speaker 2: That was my thing. I'm like, I'm looking for weird,
- 10:54Speaker 2: but this is a different kind of weird.
- 10:56Speaker 6: This is the wrong kind of weird for me. For me.
- 10:59Speaker 6: I'm not saying it's wrong for anybody else.
- 11:02Speaker 2: If you 14-year-old girls at the convention want to watch that,
- 11:05Speaker 2: go for it, man.
- 11:06Speaker 1: I don't think that's what people are watching.
- 11:07Speaker 2: I don't think that's what they're watching either.
- 11:09Speaker 1: No, that's what I was just kind of like, whoa,
- 11:11Speaker 1: wait a minute, this is not what I want.
- 11:12Speaker 6: I want Akira.
- 11:12Speaker 2: I'm streaming that on Crunchyroll right now.
- 11:14Speaker 1: Yeah. I want Ranma one half, you know. That's the thing.
- 11:22Speaker 2: Like, I do like seeing people that are that into
- 11:24Speaker 2: it and enjoying their thing, even when it's not my thing.
- 11:28Speaker 1: Oh, dude, I saw some older people like cosplaying. God,
- 11:30Speaker 1: they had to have been like either our age or
- 11:33Speaker 1: older because I'm going to assume that we don't look
- 11:35Speaker 1: our age because I meet people sometime and they're like, oh,
- 11:40Speaker 1: you wouldn't know what you wouldn't know the pain I'm in.
- 11:43Speaker 1: You know, you're still a young whippersnapper. And I'm like,
- 11:46Speaker 1: what are you talking about? how old are you?
- 11:48Speaker 6: Oh, I'm 48.
- 11:49Speaker 1: And I'm like.
- 11:50Speaker 6: Dude, or even worse when they're younger than you.
- 11:53Speaker 1: Oh, when they're younger than me.
- 11:54Speaker 2: Yeah. That's like, yeah. Everybody always guesses wrong. Cause then
- 11:59Speaker 2: I said something about like old and the, this guy,
- 12:03Speaker 2: he was like, I got shoes.
- 12:05Speaker 1: Older than you.
- 12:05Speaker 2: And I was like, I really doubt you're wearing your baby. Yeah.
- 12:09Speaker 2: I'm like, you have no idea.
- 12:11Speaker 1: No, no. That's like, well, one of the guys that are, uh,
- 12:15Speaker 1: at our work, he's one that I, Geez, I don't
- 12:17Speaker 1: know what he does exactly. He's a suit. But he's got,
- 12:21Speaker 1: you know, he looks older. But he was telling me,
- 12:27Speaker 1: he was like, you know, complaining about stuff. And he goes,
- 12:30Speaker 1: you'll understand it when you get older.
- 12:32Speaker 2: Next year?
- 12:33Speaker 1: I was like, what are you talking about? I was like,
- 12:35Speaker 1: how old are you? And he goes, I'm 38. And
- 12:36Speaker 1: I was like.
- 12:38Speaker 6: Motherfucker.
- 12:38Speaker 1: You're out of your.
- 12:39Speaker 2: Mind, dude.
- 12:40Speaker 1: I'm way older than you are. And he's like, what?
- 12:43Speaker 1: No way.
- 12:43Speaker 6: Take your hat off. Show them the back of your head. Yeah.
- 12:50Speaker 4: Yep.
- 12:51Speaker 2: People just... One day, you'll all be old.
- 12:54Speaker 1: It's fine.
- 12:55Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 12:56Speaker 6: But I think for as large as this convention was,
- 12:59Speaker 6: it was easy getting in there.
- 13:01Speaker 2: Well, and that's what I was thinking.
- 13:02Speaker 6: The parking sucked.
- 13:03Speaker 1: The parking was.
- 13:06Speaker 2: Well, that's why I wonder if they're going to have
- 13:08Speaker 2: a new plan once they finish everything. If they've got
- 13:11Speaker 2: a long-term parking plan or if they're just like, well,
- 13:14Speaker 2: this is what we've got to work with.
- 13:15Speaker 1: Dude, I've never seen the parking lot fill up that fast.
- 13:17Speaker 2: That's crazy.
- 13:18Speaker 6: But we didn't have to wait in line. Once we
- 13:19Speaker 6: got in there, I mean, we didn't have to.
- 13:21Speaker 1: Well, that's because we showed up a little bit later.
- 13:23Speaker 6: Well, yeah, we showed up later because the last time
- 13:25Speaker 6: we showed up on time, it was a clusterfuck. But
- 13:28Speaker 6: that was when they had a different setup.
- 13:29Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 13:30Speaker 6: It was a different setup and... I think they were
- 13:33Speaker 6: trying something new and it wasn't going as smoothly as
- 13:35Speaker 6: it could have been going.
- 13:36Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 13:37Speaker 6: Cause I mean, if we just showed up the same
- 13:39Speaker 6: amount of time late as we did that this time,
- 13:42Speaker 6: that time, we probably still would have been in line.
- 13:44Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 13:45Speaker 6: You know what I'm saying? Did that make any fucking sense?
- 13:47Speaker 1: No, not really.
- 13:48Speaker 4: Okay.
- 13:49Speaker 2: They normally have it together. Like, I don't know. That time,
- 13:52Speaker 2: I think there was just a ton of people and like,
- 13:54Speaker 2: they just, It all had to go through one line then.
- 13:56Speaker 1: Well, this time they had, yeah, they had multiple doors
- 14:01Speaker 1: and they had areas clearly marked where you needed to go.
- 14:04Speaker 1: So I think when they opened, they probably did pretty good.
- 14:07Speaker 1: I don't think they had as many problems.
- 14:09Speaker 2: And for days now, ever since they got into the
- 14:11Speaker 2: convention center and started setting everything up, they've been running videos. Like,
- 14:15Speaker 2: I keep seeing them pop up on the screen.
- 14:16Speaker 6: Like, here's where you need to go.
- 14:17Speaker 2: And like, this is a run through of what it's
- 14:19Speaker 2: like when you come in with your, get your badge
- 14:22Speaker 2: and here you have your badge. And like, so. Yeah,
- 14:25Speaker 2: they've been planning on this thing.
- 14:27Speaker 6: So yeah, aside from parking being... I guess because people
- 14:31Speaker 6: have been locked away for so many months.
- 14:34Speaker 2: Pent up for years.
- 14:35Speaker 6: I mean, it's literally been two years, right?
- 14:38Speaker 1: Yeah, it's been two years.
- 14:39Speaker 2: Pretty much, yeah.
- 14:41Speaker 1: It's been since 2019. So everybody's had time to work
- 14:43Speaker 1: on their costumes and everything like that. So, I mean,
- 14:47Speaker 1: everybody was out in full force. There was a lot
- 14:50Speaker 1: of people there.
- 14:51Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 14:52Speaker 1: You know? But, I mean, I know you got elbowed
- 14:55Speaker 1: a bunch of times, but, I mean, did people at
- 14:58Speaker 1: least apologize to you? Because, I mean, people were pretty
- 15:00Speaker 1: nice to me that ran into me.
- 15:02Speaker 2: Yeah, everybody I saw that was kind of just coming
- 15:04Speaker 2: in contact with me was like, excuse me, pardon me.
- 15:06Speaker 2: They were all pretty nice about it.
- 15:07Speaker 1: Yeah, I think I bumped into a girl and I said, sorry,
- 15:10Speaker 1: excuse me, and she's like, oh, don't worry about it.
- 15:11Speaker 6: This was my anxiety. I'm just like, ah! I need, like,
- 15:16Speaker 6: a bubble.
- 15:17Speaker 2: Like, everywhere I go. A dome over your head? How
- 15:19Speaker 2: about that?
- 15:20Speaker 6: I should have thought of that. That girl had a fucking...
- 15:22Speaker 6: Was it a fishbowl on her head? I don't know.
- 15:23Speaker 2: Was she supposed to be from outer space? I didn't
- 15:25Speaker 2: really see the front of the outfit. I just saw
- 15:27Speaker 2: she had a fishbowl on her head. And I was like, yeah,
- 15:30Speaker 2: she's covering a couple of bases there. She's keeping herself contained.
- 15:34Speaker 1: Yeah, that's a good way to have your costume be functional.
- 15:38Speaker 2: And still be masked away.
- 15:40Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 15:40Speaker 2: In some form.
- 15:41Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 15:42Speaker 2: Fishbowl form, but whatever. Well, I figured... sometimes it really
- 15:48Speaker 2: hasn't been that long since last time we talked. So
- 15:51Speaker 2: sometimes you haven't watched much else. So I was like, well,
- 15:54Speaker 2: we should just watch a movie and plan ahead for
- 15:56Speaker 2: this because then we'll be like, hey, what have you
- 15:57Speaker 2: guys watched? You'll be like, nothing.
- 15:59Speaker 6: I told you what we watched.
- 16:02Speaker 2: Do you want to tell people who you're in love
- 16:04Speaker 2: with now?
- 16:05Speaker 6: Duh. Did I not discuss it last time?
- 16:07Speaker 2: I don't think so. We were busy like you were
- 16:12Speaker 2: ranting or even about the book movies. So I don't
- 16:15Speaker 2: know if we got to your new obsession. I mean,
- 16:19Speaker 2: it's an ongoing obsession, but... Yeah.
- 16:23Speaker 6: We were flipping through the channels on Pluto.
- 16:27Speaker 1: Yes, Pluto.
- 16:29Speaker 6: Anybody who doesn't use Pluto, it's free.
- 16:31Speaker 2: Or their commercial.
- 16:33Speaker 6: Yeah, there's commercials.
- 16:34Speaker 1: I'm a little annoyed they got rid of their surfing
- 16:36Speaker 1: channel because that's one of the channels that I used
- 16:38Speaker 1: to watch all the time.
- 16:40Speaker 6: You and Oscar would sit back to work.
- 16:42Speaker 7: 24-7 surfing.
- 16:45Speaker 1: And it was just awesome. And then now it's kind
- 16:49Speaker 1: of this multi-channel of just multiple different sports. So surfing
- 16:54Speaker 1: is rarely ever on.
- 16:57Speaker 6: Anyways, they have a channel that's dedicated 24-7 to the
- 17:00Speaker 6: American Gladiators. And I loved American Gladiators.
- 17:05Speaker 2: That's always been a thing for you.
- 17:06Speaker 6: It always has been. I had all the figures. I
- 17:09Speaker 6: had all the little play sets and everything. I don't
- 17:12Speaker 6: know where they are. What?
- 17:14Speaker 1: No, just that I'd never watched American Gladiators.
- 17:18Speaker 6: Ever.
- 17:18Speaker 2: I'm shocked you don't have the play sets, actually.
- 17:21Speaker 6: I do have the play sets.
- 17:21Speaker 2: I know. Where are they, though?
- 17:22Speaker 6: I don't know. They're in a box in the garage
- 17:24Speaker 6: or at my mom's house.
- 17:24Speaker 2: These are the original ones, though, right?
- 17:26Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 17:26Speaker 4: Okay.
- 17:27Speaker 5: I would hope so.
- 17:27Speaker 6: I mean, I still have, like, the figures are all
- 17:29Speaker 6: out on a shelf right now because they're small. But
- 17:32Speaker 6: I think the bigger play sets got, like, put away in, like,
- 17:35Speaker 6: totes and stuff. And we were flipping through because it's
- 17:38Speaker 6: one of those nights where there's nothing on.
- 17:41Speaker 1: Nope.
- 17:41Speaker 6: So we're flipping through and, like, Ancient Aliens wasn't on.
- 17:45Speaker 6: We didn't have any Portrait of Fire to watch. So
- 17:48Speaker 6: we're flipping through Pluto. And I'm like, oh, American Gladiator
- 17:51Speaker 6: is on. And my boyfriend's like, I've never watched American Gladiator.
- 17:53Speaker 6: So I'm like, holy shit.
- 17:55Speaker 2: This will change your life.
- 17:56Speaker 6: Stop the bus. Hold the phone. We're going to watch
- 18:02Speaker 6: some goddamn American Gladiators. So I start watching. And it
- 18:06Speaker 6: was first season.
- 18:09Speaker 1: Which.
- 18:10Speaker 6: Holy shit, the complete lack of care for safety is amazing.
- 18:15Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 18:15Speaker 2: Wow, this was a long time ago.
- 18:17Speaker 1: This was like 1980s. Or the early 90s.
- 18:18Speaker 6: 89, I think.
- 18:19Speaker 1: 89, yeah.
- 18:21Speaker 6: I mean, they're shooting fucking tennis balls at your head
- 18:24Speaker 6: over 100 miles an hour.
- 18:26Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 18:27Speaker 6: And he might have a mouthguard in.
- 18:28Speaker 2: I was going to say, no protective eyewear.
- 18:29Speaker 1: Yeah, they didn't have headgear that first season, did they?
- 18:31Speaker 6: They had mouthgear. They had mouthguards, maybe, if they were lucky.
- 18:34Speaker 1: And safety glasses.
- 18:35Speaker 2: What about my eyes?
- 18:36Speaker 6: Yeah, there might have been some safety glasses. But there
- 18:39Speaker 6: was no big foam helmet like there was in later seasons.
- 18:42Speaker 1: No chest protectors. What if you get a concussion?
- 18:44Speaker 6: They didn't care.
- 18:45Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 18:46Speaker 1: No knee pads, no elbow pads.
- 18:47Speaker 6: There was some little thin, like, sleevy pads.
- 18:49Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 18:50Speaker 6: I'm like... Anyway, so we're watching it, and like I said,
- 18:52Speaker 6: it's the first season. Zero lack of care for safety.
- 18:55Speaker 6: And I'm like... the fuck? Billy, Billy Worth's on here.
- 18:59Speaker 6: Holy shit. And I'm like, wait a second. Is that
- 19:01Speaker 6: the same Billy Worth? Because I mean, this is, Billy
- 19:04Speaker 6: Worth was in Lost Boys in 86.
- 19:08Speaker 2: Was it six or eight?
- 19:10Speaker 6: I thought it was 86. I could be totally fucking wrong.
- 19:13Speaker 6: You can Google it. To the Googles.
- 19:14Speaker 2: You continue on your story.
- 19:16Speaker 6: Anyway, so we're watching it. And yes, it was the
- 19:18Speaker 6: same goddamn Billy Worth from Lost Boys.
- 19:21Speaker 2: I'm sure he'd let himself go by that time.
- 19:24Speaker 6: He looked younger.
- 19:25Speaker 2: Wasn't beautiful.
- 19:25Speaker 6: How was he? Good fucking sweet baby Jesus. How did
- 19:29Speaker 6: he look younger three years after he was in Lost Boys?
- 19:34Speaker 6: Is he really the undead?
- 19:35Speaker 2: He might be.
- 19:36Speaker 6: I don't know if it's because he shaved. But he
- 19:40Speaker 6: was causing a ruckus. He was getting into it. I'm
- 19:43Speaker 6: pretty sure him and Jim and I were going to fight.
- 19:44Speaker 6: They got in a tussle.
- 19:45Speaker 1: Ooh, fight.
- 19:47Speaker 2: Okay, we're right in the middle.
- 19:48Speaker 5: 87.
- 19:48Speaker 2: That was close.
- 19:51Speaker 6: Is that when it was May or when it was released?
- 19:53Speaker 2: I'm assuming released. That's what it's coming up as, 87.
- 19:56Speaker 6: Either way.
- 19:57Speaker 2: Initial release date, July 31st, 1987.
- 19:59Speaker 6: Okay, so Gladiators came out afterwards, and I'm like, you've
- 20:04Speaker 6: already been in like, I mean, how big? Was Lost
- 20:06Speaker 6: Boys not big?
- 20:07Speaker 1: Yeah. That's a Schumacher, man.
- 20:09Speaker 2: That's a pretty big movie. I feel like it did
- 20:11Speaker 2: pretty well at the box office.
- 20:13Speaker 6: It's one of my top five movies of all time.
- 20:16Speaker 6: It's fucking amazing. It's one of my favorite vampire movies.
- 20:20Speaker 6: There's like two that kind of depends on which day
- 20:22Speaker 6: you're asking me about which one's going to be my
- 20:24Speaker 6: favorite vampire movie.
- 20:25Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 20:26Speaker 2: Especially of that era, because there's a lot of lesser
- 20:29Speaker 2: ones along the way once they start getting cheesier. You
- 20:31Speaker 2: go like classic vampire, that's one thing, but 80s gets
- 20:35Speaker 2: into a very different turn in how some of the
- 20:37Speaker 2: vampire movies go.
- 20:38Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 20:39Speaker 6: Let's see. So you want to guess my second?
- 20:43Speaker 1: Your second one. Yeah, I know your second.
- 20:44Speaker 6: Boyfriend knows it. I know it. Do you want to
- 20:46Speaker 6: guess my second?
- 20:47Speaker 1: Is it.
- 20:50Speaker 2: I'm trying to decide if it's the same as mine.
- 20:52Speaker 6: Probably.
- 20:52Speaker 2: My go-to from that era is always Fright Night.
- 20:55Speaker 4: No.
- 20:55Speaker 5: Okay.
- 20:56Speaker 2: I love Fright Night. It's a.
- 20:59Speaker 6: I've only seen it like a handful of times. But mine,
- 21:01Speaker 6: like it's a toss up. 98% of the time I'm
- 21:03Speaker 6: going to go with Lost Boys. There's still that 2%
- 21:05Speaker 6: where I'm going to say Near Dark. Because I fucking
- 21:08Speaker 6: love Bill Paxton in that movie.
- 21:10Speaker 1: Bill Paxton is awesome in that movie.
- 21:11Speaker 2: I definitely saw it. I haven't revisited it in so
- 21:14Speaker 2: long that like half of it's like gone in my brain.
- 21:17Speaker 2: So it's one of those I keep meaning to rewatch.
- 21:19Speaker 2: But yeah, at the time I remember it being badass.
- 21:21Speaker 6: I found it and I got the Blu-ray. And the
- 21:23Speaker 6: Blu-ray has the most god awful cover ever. It looks
- 21:27Speaker 6: like a fucking Twilight knockoff.
- 21:28Speaker 2: Well, probably when it got revamped to come out on
- 21:33Speaker 2: DVD first.
- 21:33Speaker 6: So I tell my boyfriend, like, we have to watch it.
- 21:35Speaker 6: It's one of my favorites. He's like, ugh, do we really?
- 21:37Speaker 2: That's Catherine Bigelow, man. She makes top quality stuff.
- 21:41Speaker 6: You kind of cringed.
- 21:42Speaker 1: I hadn't seen it, so I didn't know anything.
- 21:43Speaker 6: But you saw the cover.
- 21:44Speaker 1: Yeah, I saw the cover art.
- 21:45Speaker 2: That's not selling.
- 21:46Speaker 1: And I was like, yeah, this ain't selling it for
- 21:48Speaker 1: me because it does. It did look like Twilight. I
- 21:50Speaker 1: was like, this is.
- 21:51Speaker 2: Going to be very much anti-Twilight.
- 21:54Speaker 1: Yeah, I was like, I don't know about this.
- 21:57Speaker 6: And then you saw some Bill Paxton.
- 21:58Speaker 1: I was like, are they going to sparkle?
- 22:00Speaker 6: Yeah, he's fucking rowdy, too.
- 22:02Speaker 1: Great movie.
- 22:04Speaker 6: But anyway, so, now I'm obsessed with Billy Worth. But
- 22:07Speaker 6: the sad thing is, 98% of his movies are not
- 22:11Speaker 6: things that I'd be interested in, in the slightest.
- 22:14Speaker 2: He did make a special kind of movie, especially post-Lost Boys.
- 22:19Speaker 2: I'm not sure what was going on before, if he
- 22:20Speaker 2: had anything really.
- 22:21Speaker 6: He did War Party, but I think that might have
- 22:23Speaker 6: been shortly after Lost Boys as well.
- 22:26Speaker 2: He seems to be in some very special movies.
- 22:28Speaker 6: He seems to be in some really bad, bad movies.
- 22:31Speaker 2: Like the special level of the ones we're watching in
- 22:34Speaker 2: our new series that we didn't really specifically mean for
- 22:37Speaker 2: it to be a series, but most of ours lately
- 22:39Speaker 2: have been like, what the, what? So are they the
- 22:44Speaker 2: kind we want to start working in? I don't know.
- 22:46Speaker 6: Hey. I do want to watch the one that Last
- 22:49Speaker 6: Lives with, hey, Last Lives of Billy Worth, Judge Reinhold,
- 22:56Speaker 6: and C. Thomas Howell. That one looks like a winner.
- 22:59Speaker 1: Okay, that one might be okay.
- 23:01Speaker 2: Do we want to discuss what I ran into earlier today?
- 23:04Speaker 6: My birthday present.
- 23:05Speaker 2: Your birthday present, whether you like it or not.
- 23:08Speaker 6: But he also did something called Seven Minutes in Heaven
- 23:11Speaker 6: or some shit like that.
- 23:12Speaker 2: I've seen that one. That one wasn't bad, but it's
- 23:14Speaker 2: coming of age. You said earlier today you hate coming
- 23:17Speaker 2: of age.
- 23:17Speaker 6: I do hate. That's the one I was talking about
- 23:18Speaker 6: with Jennifer Connelly.
- 23:19Speaker 7: Hmm.
- 23:20Speaker 2: Maybe that's a different one then. I thought Seven Minutes
- 23:23Speaker 2: in Heaven had that blonde girl from some kind of one.
- 23:26Speaker 6: It's had blonde girl and then some dude who lives
- 23:29Speaker 6: with Jennifer Connelly. And then Billy Worth plays a baseball
- 23:32Speaker 6: player named Zoo.
- 23:33Speaker 2: This might be a totally different Seven Minutes.
- 23:35Speaker 7: Zoo.
- 23:35Speaker 6: Zoo. Who plays baseball and accidentally buys lingerie for a
- 23:39Speaker 6: 15-year-old thinking she's 18.
- 23:40Speaker 2: Yeah, I think this is a different movie. This is
- 23:43Speaker 2: not at all what I remember watching and being okay
- 23:45Speaker 2: with at the time.
- 23:47Speaker 6: I mean, he's gorgeous. Why is he in these movies
- 23:50Speaker 6: that I don't care to see?
- 23:52Speaker 2: Like this one that we ran into after we left
- 23:55Speaker 2: the convention i ran into and actually that's the thing
- 23:58Speaker 2: you told me like oh look for movies with him
- 24:00Speaker 2: and i'm like i don't know what fucking movies he's
- 24:02Speaker 2: in and i saw this and it's not like i
- 24:04Speaker 2: knew i just looked at the title and went what
- 24:06Speaker 2: the hell is that venus rising here starring billy worth
- 24:12Speaker 2: uh audi england Costas Mandalore and Morgan Fairchild.
- 24:18Speaker 6: Let's point out that it was in the super clearance
- 24:20Speaker 6: section for a dollar. It is a.
- 24:21Speaker 2: Whole dollar for this movie.
- 24:23Speaker 6: Still sealed. Still sealed.
- 24:25Speaker 2: Yeah, it's still got the actual, like, look, the top
- 24:27Speaker 2: has the sticker on it.
- 24:28Speaker 6: Nobody busted that bad boy out.
- 24:29Speaker 2: Nobody even cracked into this mess. But you know you're
- 24:32Speaker 2: in trouble because on the front, the tagline says, going
- 24:35Speaker 2: across as a gunshot, the guns firing out these words,
- 24:39Speaker 2: takes the virtue out of virtual reality.
- 24:43Speaker 1: Oh, no.
- 24:43Speaker 2: So you definitely want to watch that, right?
- 24:45Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 24:45Speaker 2: I want to watch it.
- 24:46Speaker 6: I mean, I want to watch it like by myself.
- 24:49Speaker 6: I don't care about you.
- 24:50Speaker 4: Oh, wait. Oh, wait.
- 24:52Speaker 2: On the back. In the tradition of Johnny Mnemonic.
- 24:55Speaker 1: Oh, maybe I do want to watch it.
- 24:57Speaker 2: Now that's the kind of quality we're talking about.
- 25:00Speaker 1: Or Johnny Mnemonic is one of the guys called it
- 25:02Speaker 1: that I used to work with. He used to just
- 25:05Speaker 1: mess everything up. Yeah, Johnny Mnemonic. uh don't go outside
- 25:10Speaker 1: or you're gonna catch uh ammonia pneumonia yeah and uh
- 25:17Speaker 1: no he wasn't the guy he was the guy who
- 25:19Speaker 1: uh had an infection as an infection and a sore sarcophagus.
- 25:25Speaker 6: Don't you hate when that happens oh my sarcophagus is
- 25:27Speaker 6: sore yeah i.
- 25:28Speaker 2: Mean that's usually where i'm looking for my treasure but.
- 25:31Speaker 6: Of course now that i'm like obsessed Is he ever
- 25:34Speaker 6: going to be at conventions again? Because what draw can
- 25:36Speaker 6: they bring? The other Lost Boys dead. So unless they bring.
- 25:40Speaker 1: In Alex Winger.
- 25:40Speaker 2: The Venus Rising crowd alone is going to be hundreds.
- 25:44Speaker 6: Is Morgan Fairchild still alive?
- 25:46Speaker 2: I think so.
- 25:49Speaker 1: I think so.
- 25:50Speaker 6: Maybe. I don't know. Was it Brooke McCarter?
- 25:53Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 25:54Speaker 6: He wasn't my favorite Lost Boy, so I don't remember
- 25:56Speaker 6: his name. And I'm not trying to be rude. I
- 25:58Speaker 6: remember Billy Worth, and I know Kiefer Sutherland.
- 26:00Speaker 2: Let's get to the most important one. Alex Winter.
- 26:04Speaker 6: I had that stupid ass poodle mullet.
- 26:07Speaker 2: The hair's not cool, but the jacket makes up for it.
- 26:09Speaker 2: He has the coolest jacket.
- 26:10Speaker 6: Billy Worth's jacket was pretty cool too. Was it a
- 26:13Speaker 6: leopard or a tiger?
- 26:14Speaker 2: A leopard and a tiger? A black tiger?
- 26:17Speaker 6: Yeah, a black tiger.
- 26:20Speaker 2: Black tiger.
- 26:22Speaker 6: So yes, we have watched so much American Gladiators in
- 26:27Speaker 6: the past three, four months. It's been like It's on
- 26:32Speaker 6: all the time. I guess boyfriend got tired of watching
- 26:36Speaker 6: the dead people shows. I usually live on the ID channel.
- 26:40Speaker 1: After a while, I can only deal with so much
- 26:41Speaker 1: rape and dismemberment.
- 26:44Speaker 2: I figured it goes the other way, because the other
- 26:45Speaker 2: half of them are like, yes, the wife killed her husband.
- 26:48Speaker 2: You're like, you've watched enough of this. Stop watching these
- 26:51Speaker 2: for a while.
- 26:52Speaker 1: No, I mean, yeah, sometimes those pop up, but a
- 26:55Speaker 1: lot of times it's always the you know, the woman
- 26:59Speaker 1: that's found down by the river that was raped and
- 27:03Speaker 1: tortured for three months.
- 27:04Speaker 6: But then they get justice.
- 27:06Speaker 7: Do they?
- 27:07Speaker 1: Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. So I just get tired.
- 27:09Speaker 2: Justice would be nice, but it doesn't make up for
- 27:12Speaker 2: all the horrible things.
- 27:13Speaker 1: No, it doesn't.
- 27:14Speaker 6: So yeah, we've been watching just, except for, well, we
- 27:17Speaker 6: watch all the American Gladiators unless it's on, because they
- 27:20Speaker 6: made a 2008 season, which does not have my favorite gladiator.
- 27:25Speaker 6: And I just don't give a shit because it's like,
- 27:28Speaker 6: I just don't care.
- 27:29Speaker 2: At that point, which is your favorite?
- 27:31Speaker 6: Oh my gosh. My favorite gladiator of all time would
- 27:34Speaker 6: be Turbo because he was gorgeous too. Billy Worth gorgeous?
- 27:39Speaker 6: I wouldn't go that far. Billy Worth was pretty. He
- 27:43Speaker 6: was beautiful.
- 27:44Speaker 2: Yeah, he's pretty. I'll give you that. Definitely like Lost
- 27:48Speaker 2: Boys era. Now, I haven't seen him lately.
- 27:51Speaker 6: Dude, he's holed up amazing.
- 27:53Speaker 2: I would hope so.
- 27:55Speaker 6: Yeah, he looks... But, yeah, Turbo Galen Tomlinson, which is
- 28:02Speaker 6: like one of the worst names ever.
- 28:04Speaker 2: I'm sorry.
- 28:04Speaker 6: I could be saying it all wrong, but, yeah.
- 28:07Speaker 2: That's why they just called him Turbo.
- 28:10Speaker 6: Dude, seriously. He was always my favorite. And then my
- 28:13Speaker 6: second favorite gladiator. Boyfriend knows who my second favorite is.
- 28:16Speaker 1: Who?
- 28:17Speaker 6: You know who he is. He's Goofy.
- 28:19Speaker 3: Hawk.
- 28:19Speaker 6: Yeah, I like Hawk.
- 28:23Speaker 1: Hawk's one of my favorites.
- 28:25Speaker 3: Oh, man.
- 28:26Speaker 6: See, now I've got a boyfriend knowing the names of
- 28:28Speaker 6: most of the gladiators.
- 28:29Speaker 1: Well, I know pretty much all of them now.
- 28:31Speaker 6: Every once in a while, they'll throw one in there
- 28:32Speaker 6: that I'm like, I don't know who that person is.
- 28:33Speaker 2: Who the hell are you?
- 28:35Speaker 6: Havoc. I don't know who Havoc is.
- 28:37Speaker 2: It was a sick day.
- 28:38Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 28:38Speaker 2: They were like, ah, man, we're down like three gladiators.
- 28:40Speaker 2: Who are we going to put in here? You with
- 28:42Speaker 2: the catering table. Come over here. Put this outfit on.
- 28:46Speaker 1: Storm popped up a couple times. I was like, who's Storm?
- 28:50Speaker 2: Can she control the weather? No.
- 28:52Speaker 1: What a ripoff.
- 28:54Speaker 6: And then it's sad because you look up and I'm like,
- 28:55Speaker 6: where are these gladiators now? And it's like, yeah.
- 28:59Speaker 1: Hawk's dead.
- 29:01Speaker 6: Yeah. Siren. One of the, she was the first deaf
- 29:05Speaker 6: American gladiator.
- 29:06Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 29:07Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 29:07Speaker 1: She commits suicide.
- 29:09Speaker 6: Yeah. Yeah. And then I listened to like a podcast by,
- 29:12Speaker 6: cause apparently Nitro, Dan Clark has his own podcast and
- 29:15Speaker 6: he brought on some of the chicks and not chicks.
- 29:18Speaker 6: I didn't mean to sound like derogatory or.
- 29:19Speaker 2: Like badass chicks.
- 29:21Speaker 6: Obviously they are badass chicks. He brought on like ice and, uh,
- 29:25Speaker 6: A zap. And just talking about how hard life was,
- 29:28Speaker 6: because it's like, they just kind of like, oh, Gladiators
- 29:30Speaker 6: is done, and they were like, well, shit.
- 29:32Speaker 2: Well, and they probably weren't making a fortune. like it
- 29:34Speaker 2: was it was a big deal at the time but
- 29:37Speaker 2: also they didn't pay anybody.
- 29:38Speaker 6: But they also didn't get any like merchandise rights oh
- 29:41Speaker 6: yeah like there was so much merchandise i mean i
- 29:44Speaker 6: have all the figures but they didn't get a dime
- 29:47Speaker 6: off any of the merchandise like nothing way to screw
- 29:50Speaker 6: over your talent yeah so it's like she's like what
- 29:54Speaker 6: the what are we supposed to do like she immediately
- 29:56Speaker 6: from being an american gladiator She wanted to be a bartender,
- 29:59Speaker 6: because that's the only thing she could just go and do,
- 30:01Speaker 6: because she's like, well, I need a job now.
- 30:04Speaker 2: And then she could bounce people right out of the
- 30:06Speaker 2: bar when need be.
- 30:07Speaker 6: You know, Zap, I mean, I think she went on
- 30:09Speaker 6: to be a ski instructor, but she was in a
- 30:12Speaker 6: movie before American Gladiator. She was the first American Gladiator,
- 30:15Speaker 6: because she was in a movie with John Ritter.
- 30:19Speaker 2: Skin Deep?
- 30:21Speaker 4: Yes.
- 30:21Speaker 2: That's sad that I knew that. I just took a
- 30:25Speaker 2: guess for that time, and I remember there's a whole
- 30:27Speaker 2: lot of women in that one. So I can see
- 30:29Speaker 2: him also at some point running into a super strong woman.
- 30:33Speaker 2: So he's got to hit a little of everybody. Blake Edwards.
- 30:38Speaker 6: But yeah, so we've watched so much American Gladiators. And
- 30:42Speaker 6: then after, of course, watching Billy Worth, I'm like, well,
- 30:45Speaker 6: we have to watch Lost Boys because it's... Because it's
- 30:48Speaker 6: Lost Boys. First of all, it's awesome. But then after
- 30:50Speaker 6: watching them, they have not given Billy Worth more than
- 30:53Speaker 6: one line.
- 30:54Speaker 2: Yeah, none of the other three really have anything to do.
- 30:57Speaker 2: They just kind of stand there and have to look
- 30:58Speaker 2: cool next to Kiefer, but Kiefer's got all the lines.
- 31:01Speaker 6: And he says Michael like 498 times.
- 31:04Speaker 2: Michael, Michael, Michael, Michael.
- 31:08Speaker 1: Didn't somebody put together a video of just him saying Michael?
- 31:12Speaker 2: And it's not a short video.
- 31:14Speaker 6: No, because he does say it like a ridiculous amount
- 31:17Speaker 6: of time. That's like 48% of the dialogue in the
- 31:21Speaker 6: entire movie is Michael, Michael, Michael. But it is. It is, like,
- 31:25Speaker 6: seriously one of the greatest. To me. I'm sure it's not, like,
- 31:30Speaker 6: one of the most, like, gonna win awards or something.
- 31:35Speaker 2: It should.
- 31:35Speaker 6: It should win all the awards. But to me, in
- 31:37Speaker 6: my personal opinion.
- 31:38Speaker 2: Awards are biased to cool vampire movies.
- 31:40Speaker 6: It should be. It should have got all the awards. But, yeah.
- 31:44Speaker 6: Other than that, we haven't really watched any movies independently, because.
- 31:48Speaker 2: And that's how we got to this week's movie.
- 31:51Speaker 5: It's time for Sofa Theater.
- 31:55Speaker 1: On the planet Arcturus, he's the toughest cop around.
- 32:00Speaker 4: That's a quarter blast.
- 32:02Speaker 7: The most powerful half of the universe.
- 32:09Speaker 6: That's right, fat boy.
- 32:10Speaker 3: What do you want, asshole?
- 32:13Speaker 4: Nothing.
- 32:13Speaker 1: You just gonna walk away? of the planet Earth. He's
- 32:26Speaker 1: 13 inches tall.
- 32:26Speaker 6: Oh, fuck!
- 32:27Speaker 1: That's about the size of it. Shit!
- 32:30Speaker 7: Can we teach it?
- 32:32Speaker 1: Hold me together.
- 32:33Speaker 7: I'm going to war. With who?
- 32:45Speaker 3: The fucking doll man, Wells.
- 32:57Speaker 6: Hey, you in the wrong.
- 33:02Speaker 7: Neighborhood?
- 33:04Speaker 1: Urban fucking renewal.
- 33:06Speaker 5: Dollman.
- 33:07Speaker 1: 13 inches with an attitude.
- 33:10Speaker 9: You know in all of the time that we've shared.
- 33:37Speaker 9: I'll meet you there. I wish I never had taken
- 33:49Speaker 9: this step.
- 33:53Speaker 7: I wasn't quite free.
- 34:18Speaker 9: Call me up in my bad luck.
- 34:26Speaker 1: I'll meet you there.
- 34:30Speaker 2: Are you ready to get into our feature? I sort
- 34:33Speaker 2: of picked it.
- 34:34Speaker 6: His boyfriend picked a movie and I was like, oh.
- 34:37Speaker 6: Then I saw that it was on Tubi. And it
- 34:39Speaker 6: had recommended at the bottom.
- 34:42Speaker 2: Is this based on your previous views? Because that could
- 34:45Speaker 2: be trouble.
- 34:46Speaker 6: No, because after I saw that was on there, it
- 34:48Speaker 6: was like, oh, you want to watch this movie? You
- 34:51Speaker 6: might like this movie. And Dollman was there. And I'm like,
- 34:54Speaker 6: what the fuck is Dollman?
- 34:56Speaker 1: I remember the VHS box art for it.
- 35:01Speaker 6: We just saw the DVD in there.
- 35:04Speaker 2: Oh, really? Where we picked up these movies right here.
- 35:08Speaker 1: I remember the VHS box art at the video store
- 35:14Speaker 1: and at the convenience store down by my house. And
- 35:17Speaker 1: it was one of the movies that I always saw,
- 35:19Speaker 1: but I never got it. Just because I was like,
- 35:22Speaker 1: oh man, I ain't going to rent this. What the
- 35:25Speaker 1: hell is this? This looks dumb.
- 35:27Speaker 2: Obviously, it shows you right on the cover. It's a man.
- 35:30Speaker 2: He's the size of a doll.
- 35:31Speaker 1: Yeah, so I was just kind of like, eh, not
- 35:34Speaker 1: really what I want to watch. I didn't know if
- 35:35Speaker 1: it was a horror movie or a sci-fi.
- 35:37Speaker 2: We're still not sure.
- 35:38Speaker 1: I thought it was a horror movie, actually. So that's
- 35:41Speaker 1: why I was just like, eh.
- 35:42Speaker 6: Kind of like Demonic Toys?
- 35:43Speaker 1: Yeah, something like Demonic Toys.
- 35:45Speaker 6: What was the other one that we just, Puppet Master?
- 35:47Speaker 1: Puppet Master.
- 35:48Speaker 2: That's why I kept pointing those out all day. We
- 35:50Speaker 2: kept running into Puppet Master toys. I was like, see,
- 35:53Speaker 2: we'll get back to that later. So, since we've thrown
- 35:57Speaker 2: it out there, we'll go through the official rundown. This
- 36:00Speaker 2: week's Silver Theater feature is Dollman. The year is 1991.
- 36:05Speaker 2: This part I totally forgot about because it came up
- 36:09Speaker 2: at the very beginning. Albert Pune is the director, who
- 36:14Speaker 2: not only have we had on the show before, but
- 36:17Speaker 2: I was just talking about him to somebody the other
- 36:19Speaker 2: day because I also, on another one of these random
- 36:21Speaker 2: movie stops like we just did over there, Ran into
- 36:24Speaker 2: another one of Albert Pugh's movies that I think we're
- 36:26Speaker 2: going to get to on a future episode. So I
- 36:28Speaker 2: won't ruin it yet.
- 36:30Speaker 6: Didn't we see it somewhere together? Or were we at
- 36:32Speaker 6: the flea market? And didn't you point out? Or was
- 36:34Speaker 6: that somebody else? I don't know. I thought you pointed
- 36:37Speaker 6: out a DVD and you pointed out the director. And
- 36:39Speaker 6: I was like, oh, okay.
- 36:41Speaker 2: Probably since then, yeah. Because I was just talking about it.
- 36:43Speaker 6: Like last Saturday.
- 36:44Speaker 2: Yeah, I think so. Because, yeah, I was like, that guy.
- 36:46Speaker 2: That guy right there. So, yeah, we've had him on
- 36:49Speaker 2: the show. So, yeah, I forgot all about that until
- 36:51Speaker 2: it popped up at the beginning of this movie. And
- 36:53Speaker 2: I was like, wait, this is an Albert. He is
- 36:55Speaker 2: legendary for many different reasons. But I was like, oh, man,
- 36:59Speaker 2: this is going to be even better than I expected. Well,
- 37:01Speaker 2: we'll get to that. And the plot, according to IMDb,
- 37:06Speaker 2: I bitch about this all the time. It's wrong right now.
- 37:09Speaker 2: It's one sentence and it's wrong.
- 37:11Speaker 6: Well, bust it out.
- 37:12Speaker 2: A hard-boiled intergalactic policeman lands on Earth where he is
- 37:17Speaker 2: only 12 inches tall.
- 37:18Speaker 6: I thought he was 13 inches.
- 37:19Speaker 2: How many times in the movie did they say he's
- 37:21Speaker 2: 13 inches tall? Come on, IMDB.
- 37:24Speaker 1: Several times.
- 37:24Speaker 2: Several times. It's the tagline. The tagline of the movie is.
- 37:29Speaker 6: Do you need to run in there and buy it
- 37:31Speaker 6: real quick?
- 37:31Speaker 2: No, I have it right here. 13 inches with an attitude.
- 37:34Speaker 3: Yep.
- 37:35Speaker 2: That's the line on the poster. That's the line on
- 37:38Speaker 2: the video box art. Come on, man. So, that having
- 37:43Speaker 2: been said, spoiler alert, we will ruin the hell out
- 37:46Speaker 2: of this. So, go watch it. It's free on, as
- 37:49Speaker 2: previously mentioned, Tubi.
- 37:51Speaker 6: There are commercials.
- 37:51Speaker 2: You might find it on YouTube, and there's no commercials. So, yeah,
- 37:55Speaker 2: there's lots of copies out there. I don't know where
- 37:57Speaker 2: they came from. I don't know how they got there,
- 37:59Speaker 2: but they're streaming, and you can watch them, most of
- 38:01Speaker 2: which for free. Go watch it if you haven't already
- 38:03Speaker 2: seen it.
- 38:04Speaker 6: On Tubi, they have the Elvira 13 Nights of Horror Halloween.
- 38:09Speaker 2: Version of it. I considered going with that one, but
- 38:12Speaker 2: I wasn't sure how different that version was.
- 38:15Speaker 1: Ah, that's the one we want.
- 38:18Speaker 6: Elvira makes everything better.
- 38:19Speaker 2: That's always true. I mean, you can't go wrong with Elvira.
- 38:26Speaker 6: I fucking love this movie. I was in. I was
- 38:30Speaker 6: there for it. I had a good time. I was
- 38:32Speaker 6: laughing at damn near everything.
- 38:34Speaker 1: I liked it.
- 38:35Speaker 6: I was like, what? I couldn't stop laughing because it
- 38:38Speaker 6: was so ridiculous.
- 38:40Speaker 1: It's ridiculous.
- 38:43Speaker 6: Not even through the trailer, I was thinking, did somebody
- 38:47Speaker 6: watch Sledgehammer and decide to make a space cop movie?
- 38:53Speaker 6: It had a very Sledgehammer feel to it. The character.
- 38:57Speaker 2: um what what character we had from brick which is
- 39:00Speaker 2: not a whole lot surprisingly because tim thomerson is awesome
- 39:04Speaker 2: that's our lead and like he's he is very like
- 39:08Speaker 2: corny like on purpose like his stuff is usually you
- 39:11Speaker 2: know he is very charismatic so like you get him
- 39:14Speaker 2: in the lead and usually he's there kind of wisecracking
- 39:17Speaker 2: and like that's his thing this is like the dead's Like,
- 39:22Speaker 2: super serious, but still kind of trying to be the
- 39:24Speaker 2: tough guy thing. So, like, it is him doing, like,
- 39:28Speaker 2: a version of their actual... heroes and kind of making
- 39:31Speaker 2: fun of them. But it kind of also sucks all
- 39:34Speaker 2: the fun out of him too. He's just like super
- 39:37Speaker 2: deadpan the whole time.
- 39:38Speaker 6: I thought that's what made it great.
- 39:41Speaker 2: It always makes it funny in a different way. Cause
- 39:44Speaker 2: that's the thing I came, I guess we have to
- 39:46Speaker 2: dig into all of this. So I, I'd seen this,
- 39:50Speaker 2: Many years ago. I had not seen it since, but
- 39:52Speaker 2: I think it was back on... Well, I know it
- 39:55Speaker 2: was on VHS. It was maybe when I was still
- 39:57Speaker 2: watching those and technically reviewing them, as much as you
- 40:00Speaker 2: want to.
- 40:00Speaker 1: Call what I did.
- 40:01Speaker 2: But the few sentences I would write down. But I
- 40:05Speaker 2: saw a ton of Full Moon movies back then.
- 40:08Speaker 6: So what was your review for this movie back then?
- 40:12Speaker 2: I think it's pretty similar to what I am now.
- 40:14Speaker 2: I think it's more... to jump to the overview here,
- 40:18Speaker 2: I think it's more of a concept than a movie. Like,
- 40:21Speaker 2: it's like they came up with the basic concept and
- 40:24Speaker 2: then like, eh, we'll get to the plot later. And
- 40:26Speaker 2: then like, you'll notice it's really short. So there's like
- 40:29Speaker 2: little to no other side story. It's just kind of
- 40:32Speaker 2: the premise. And by the time they're done setting that up,
- 40:35Speaker 2: you're already halfway into the movie. And then like, okay,
- 40:37Speaker 2: now we got to deal with this bad guy.
- 40:39Speaker 6: Okay. We dealt with him.
- 40:41Speaker 2: It's just over so quick. I was like, I feel
- 40:44Speaker 2: like they just had, again, it's a Charles Band story
- 40:47Speaker 2: idea by. So like, I think he came up with
- 40:49Speaker 2: the idea and was just like, yeah, yeah, like that.
- 40:52Speaker 2: And then we'll do some more stuff with him, which
- 40:54Speaker 2: they kind of do. So like, I don't know. I
- 40:57Speaker 2: think that was my takeaway then. And I don't feel
- 40:59Speaker 2: like it's changed that much in the last 25 or
- 41:02Speaker 2: 30 years, however long it's been since this movie I
- 41:05Speaker 2: watched the first time. So yeah, I still like it.
- 41:08Speaker 2: It's fun, but it's very silly.
- 41:10Speaker 6: I had a good time. I was, I, I, I
- 41:13Speaker 6: think I had a better time with this than I
- 41:14Speaker 6: would have with Robot Ninja, which was Boyfriend's Bigger Choice.
- 41:17Speaker 2: I watched the trailer for Robot Ninja.
- 41:18Speaker 1: I changed my mind. I pulled out like midway through
- 41:22Speaker 1: the morning at work. I was sitting there thinking about
- 41:25Speaker 1: it more, and I was like, you know what? Robot
- 41:27Speaker 1: Ninja looks so fucking bad that I'm afraid Girlfriend's going
- 41:32Speaker 1: to have a miserable time with it.
- 41:34Speaker 2: I just watched the trailer.
- 41:35Speaker 1: I was like, I could probably get.
- 41:37Speaker 2: Through this, but I'm like, this looks so low budget.
- 41:41Speaker 6: It had a name.
- 41:42Speaker 2: But it had low budget.
- 41:43Speaker 1: Yeah. It usually pisses you off.
- 41:45Speaker 2: Like, even more low budget than Albert Pugh movies, which
- 41:48Speaker 2: are usually pretty minimal budget. Like, he knows how to
- 41:51Speaker 2: stretch a dollar and make it look kind of cool and, like,
- 41:54Speaker 2: do cool stuff. Not everybody can do that. So, yeah,
- 41:58Speaker 2: I was, like, watching the trailer for that other one going,
- 42:00Speaker 2: Misty's going to be miserable.
- 42:02Speaker 1: Yeah, I was like, do I make everybody suffer through
- 42:06Speaker 1: this or do we just go with Dollman?
- 42:09Speaker 6: Because Misty said, hey, watch this trailer. And you'll be like, oh,
- 42:12Speaker 6: if this sucks, it's all Misty's fault because she's the
- 42:15Speaker 6: one who mentioned it. Because, you know, boyfriend sent out
- 42:18Speaker 6: the text or the original text of, have you picked
- 42:22Speaker 6: a movie yet? And I'm like, oh, fuck.
- 42:23Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 42:24Speaker 2: You know, you're in trouble.
- 42:25Speaker 6: Well, it's even worse when he sends you that text
- 42:27Speaker 6: from the bathroom.
- 42:29Speaker 2: I don't need to know these things.
- 42:30Speaker 6: So if he's doing bathroom thinking and picking out movies.
- 42:33Speaker 2: Heavy duty, deep thought.
- 42:37Speaker 1: When you're picking out a movie on the shitter, it's
- 42:41Speaker 1: probably going to be crap.
- 42:45Speaker 2: So instead, doll man.
- 42:48Speaker 6: I fully enjoyed it.
- 42:50Speaker 1: I enjoyed it.
- 42:50Speaker 2: But see, this was coming into it. That was my
- 42:54Speaker 2: other thing. This was the one I knew second of
- 42:57Speaker 2: the Tim Thomerson Full Moon movies. Did you watch any
- 43:01Speaker 2: of the Trancers stuff?
- 43:02Speaker 1: No, but I remember the Trancers movies.
- 43:04Speaker 2: See, I came into it. Yeah, I remember watching those,
- 43:07Speaker 2: and I saw those first.
- 43:08Speaker 3: And I.
- 43:09Speaker 2: Again, I don't think up until recently I'd seen the
- 43:12Speaker 2: first one. I came in, again, like, I think they
- 43:14Speaker 2: sent me, like, here, watch this one. And it was
- 43:15Speaker 2: Trancers 2. And Trancers 2 is really cool and has, like,
- 43:20Speaker 2: here's what's funny. A future Oscar winner.
- 43:25Speaker 6: Who?
- 43:25Speaker 2: It stars as a co-star when they bring in the
- 43:28Speaker 2: female lead, Helen Hunt.
- 43:30Speaker 6: Wow.
- 43:30Speaker 2: Within the span of less than 10 years, she goes
- 43:33Speaker 2: from doing this Trancers movie to being a major TV
- 43:36Speaker 2: star to a movie star and winning an Oscar. that's
- 43:38Speaker 2: a weird little rollercoaster ride for her.
- 43:40Speaker 1: So yeah.
- 43:42Speaker 2: So she's in that. And there's another Megan board. There's
- 43:47Speaker 2: another girl that like, there's kind of like two other
- 43:49Speaker 2: girls that come into it and like, they have a
- 43:51Speaker 2: really good dynamic and Tim Thomerson super fun. So it's like,
- 43:54Speaker 2: those are really cool. And then they just kept doing them.
- 43:57Speaker 2: There's like five with him over the years. And it
- 44:01Speaker 2: was only recently when I went back and saw the
- 44:02Speaker 2: first one, which is still fun. But it's one of those,
- 44:05Speaker 2: I think it was some other independent company put together Trancers.
- 44:09Speaker 2: It didn't do that well. And then Full Moon moved
- 44:12Speaker 2: in and we're like, hey, can we buy this property
- 44:14Speaker 2: and keep making sequels? So I think the second one
- 44:17Speaker 2: was the first Full Moon one, technically. But it's a
- 44:20Speaker 2: lot of fun. So yeah, that was one of those.
- 44:22Speaker 2: I came from the Trancers world first. So watching him
- 44:25Speaker 2: be Brick is kind of like, oh, well, he's just
- 44:29Speaker 2: kind of doing this action hero thing, but it's not
- 44:32Speaker 2: near as much Fun is what he does with Jack Death.
- 44:35Speaker 6: I guess because we haven't seen The Trancers, I could
- 44:38Speaker 6: fully enjoy him as Brick, what was his last name?
- 44:41Speaker 6: Bardon or some shit like that.
- 44:43Speaker 2: Barlow or Barto.
- 44:44Speaker 6: Barto.
- 44:44Speaker 2: Yeah, Brick Barto, I think. Which is a character name
- 44:48Speaker 2: that Albert Pugh has used several times before.
- 44:51Speaker 6: I did look at that. I can't remember which movie
- 44:53Speaker 6: it said it was in, but yeah, I do remember
- 44:55Speaker 6: saying that he used it before.
- 44:56Speaker 2: Yeah, he's been in a couple of his as a character,
- 44:59Speaker 2: but not the same character. I think he just used
- 45:01Speaker 2: the name again because he likes the name.
- 45:05Speaker 6: How could you not? And I gotta ask, was Jackie
- 45:11Speaker 6: Earl Haley ever attractive?
- 45:14Speaker 2: I mean, I think even as a kid, he was
- 45:16Speaker 2: an odd-looking child. He was a kid star for years,
- 45:20Speaker 2: and that's where everybody knew him from originally. And then
- 45:23Speaker 2: he grew up in... I think he, like, worked into that.
- 45:26Speaker 2: I mean, later he kind of plays on the fact
- 45:28Speaker 2: that he doesn't look like your handsome lady man type.
- 45:31Speaker 6: He just plays, like, the skeezy, like, guy.
- 45:33Speaker 2: So he plays skeezy, yeah.
- 45:35Speaker 6: And he's good at skeezy.
- 45:36Speaker 2: So, like, this was right in the middle for him. Like,
- 45:39Speaker 2: he'd been kid star, and then he was, like, in
- 45:42Speaker 2: a super big movie as a teenager. And he kind
- 45:45Speaker 2: of rode that out, both of them, actually.
- 45:46Speaker 6: What was he in as a kid?
- 45:48Speaker 2: He's Bad News Bears. Oh, I never watched it. And
- 45:51Speaker 2: he rode that out, because I think he's the one
- 45:52Speaker 2: that carried through. He's like the kid star, and I
- 45:55Speaker 2: think they probably even ditched, by the end, I'm sure,
- 46:00Speaker 2: Matthau's not in them anymore. So I think the one
- 46:03Speaker 2: person riding it out the whole time in those sequels
- 46:06Speaker 2: was Jackie O'Haley. And then he grows up a little bit,
- 46:10Speaker 2: and as a teenager, he's in Breaking Away. Breaking Away
- 46:13Speaker 2: is like a big thing now. at the time so
- 46:15Speaker 2: much so that it even gets like a TV series
- 46:17Speaker 2: and he's in the TV series as well. So like, again,
- 46:20Speaker 2: he kind of wrote out everything that came along when
- 46:22Speaker 2: he was younger. And then he hits like this low.
- 46:25Speaker 2: If you look at his IMDb, it's like, he just
- 46:28Speaker 2: kind of like, wasn't the cute kid anymore. He couldn't
- 46:31Speaker 2: pull off the teenager thing. And like, I think he
- 46:33Speaker 2: just didn't know what to do. So it's not until
- 46:35Speaker 2: like the late nineties, early two thousands before he has
- 46:38Speaker 2: that comeback that, where he becomes a name again. And
- 46:42Speaker 2: this is right at the beginning of it. This is
- 46:43Speaker 2: one of those, I'm going to be a villain, I guess.
- 46:47Speaker 2: So he comes off perfectly suited for this movie. We
- 46:52Speaker 2: do need a skeezy guy to be in charge of
- 46:53Speaker 2: the gang. And he's definitely that.
- 46:57Speaker 3: See, that's what happens when people start taking things upon themselves.
- 47:01Speaker 2: Anybody else got any bright ideas? You got a fucking
- 47:03Speaker 2: bright idea?
- 47:04Speaker 1: How about you?
- 47:04Speaker 3: You got a bright idea?
- 47:06Speaker 1: Huh? I have an idea. Oh, there's an invasion, homeboys.
- 47:22Speaker 6: This better be good, Head.
- 47:24Speaker 3: There's only one person that can stop you once I
- 47:26Speaker 3: give you the dimensional bomb. Brick Bardo.
- 47:31Speaker 1: What's a Brick Bardo?
- 47:33Speaker 2: He's an asshole cop from my world.
- 47:35Speaker 3: He followed me here.
- 47:36Speaker 1: Well, how do you know it's him?
- 47:38Speaker 3: There's only one weapon in the universe that can destroy
- 47:41Speaker 3: atomic matter like that.
- 47:45Speaker 1: It's dangerous to me. And to you, too.
- 47:49Speaker 3: If I were you, I'd go out and kill.
- 47:50Speaker 1: Him right now.
- 47:51Speaker 4: Well, yeah.
- 47:52Speaker 3: Well, if I was you, I'd quit while I was ahead.
- 47:54Speaker 3: Think how it looks? Guy moves into your territory, blows
- 47:59Speaker 3: away your two men. I know I wouldn't like it.
- 48:03Speaker 3: He's not showing you proper respect. People will think you've
- 48:08Speaker 3: lost control.
- 48:11Speaker 6: Well, this guy's a cop, huh?
- 48:17Speaker 2: I'm going to go to Debbie's.
- 48:18Speaker 6: I don't want to show this cop he's in the
- 48:20Speaker 6: wrong fucking neighborhood.
- 48:21Speaker 3: I'm just staying here and cleaning up this mess.
- 48:24Speaker 2: So aside from his looks, how are you with Jackie?
- 48:27Speaker 6: Yeah, he was pretty good. He was my second favorite character.
- 48:31Speaker 1: A little sweet?
- 48:32Speaker 6: A little sweet. I don't know the fucking guy's real name.
- 48:34Speaker 1: They don't give you his name?
- 48:38Speaker 6: I think he was arm something guy. He was his
- 48:42Speaker 6: second right hand man. And the whole time, every time
- 48:45Speaker 6: he would come on screen, I'm like, ooh, a little sweet.
- 48:47Speaker 6: Does he look a little sweet from the Dr. Pepper commercials?
- 48:52Speaker 2: Oh, the other guy that was hanging out with him
- 48:54Speaker 2: in the car later? Yeah, that guy. I was like,
- 48:56Speaker 2: not the other dude that like, no, not a midget.
- 49:01Speaker 2: I like that guy. He was in every action movie then, too.
- 49:03Speaker 2: I was like, I know that guy. I don't know
- 49:05Speaker 2: his name.
- 49:06Speaker 1: Yeah, that guy cracked me up.
- 49:07Speaker 2: He's in all kinds of action movies back then. But yeah,
- 49:11Speaker 2: the gangs are as fun as, you know.
- 49:13Speaker 6: I totally forgot the name of the doll, man.
- 49:16Speaker 2: As fun as murderous gangs can be. Oh, and they're.
- 49:20Speaker 1: A typical 80s gang.
- 49:21Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 49:22Speaker 1: Even though it's 90s. And really, in all reality, 1990
- 49:25Speaker 1: and 1991 were still the 80s.
- 49:27Speaker 2: They're still kind of coasting on everything that was popular
- 49:30Speaker 2: in the 80s.
- 49:31Speaker 1: We didn't get out of the 80s until about 92, 93.
- 49:34Speaker 2: They started getting their own vibe, their own kind of feel.
- 49:37Speaker 2: And you definitely get a very 90s feel as you
- 49:39Speaker 2: go on. Yeah, this is still very 80s-esque.
- 49:43Speaker 1: I mean, I don't know how I didn't rent this
- 49:45Speaker 1: movie a long time ago. It was thoroughly enjoyable for me.
- 49:51Speaker 1: Anybody that knows me knows I love Sledgehammer. That's probably
- 49:54Speaker 1: my number one top favorite TV show ever.
- 49:57Speaker 2: It says, like, Space Sledgehammer.
- 50:00Speaker 1: So this was like, yeah, I looked at it, and
- 50:01Speaker 1: I was like, this is Space Sledgehammer. So much so
- 50:04Speaker 1: that I believe the second star of this movie is
- 50:07Speaker 1: his gun, which is a. 475. Wildy Magnum. It was
- 50:13Speaker 1: an actual pistol. It's the gun from Death Wish. Death
- 50:16Speaker 1: Wish 3.
- 50:17Speaker 2: But now it's the protoblaster.
- 50:19Speaker 1: It's the protoblaster. And, dude, I mean, it blew away
- 50:23Speaker 1: bad guys in Death Wish. It blows away guys in
- 50:26Speaker 1: this movie.
- 50:27Speaker 2: It just makes people explode in this movie.
- 50:29Speaker 6: But did you notice they did stay within, like, when
- 50:33Speaker 6: he's the same size, it totally demolishes them. But when
- 50:35Speaker 6: he shrinks down, it doesn't do near the damage.
- 50:38Speaker 1: But it still kills him.
- 50:39Speaker 2: It's consistent.
- 50:40Speaker 6: I do like that they went to scale.
- 50:42Speaker 2: It's just like a really bad gunshot wound when he's
- 50:45Speaker 2: 13 inches tall.
- 50:46Speaker 1: They did the same thing with the bomb.
- 50:49Speaker 6: Yeah, but I called that one.
- 50:51Speaker 1: Yeah, you did. Because he said it'll destroy everything within
- 50:54Speaker 1: three parsecs. You know, and the guy's like, we could
- 50:59Speaker 1: take out the whole Upper East Side, you know, or
- 51:02Speaker 1: something like that.
- 51:03Speaker 6: And I'm like, nah, I bet when they shrunk that
- 51:04Speaker 6: fucking bomb, it's barely going to clear the room. Yeah.
- 51:09Speaker 6: And the guy's name was Arm Bruiser. The character name
- 51:11Speaker 6: was Arm Bruiser. Real sweet. That's what his name was.
- 51:15Speaker 6: Did you not get that vibe?
- 51:16Speaker 2: I don't think I specifically went with that.
- 51:19Speaker 6: But his real name was Richard DeSisto. I couldn't find
- 51:22Speaker 6: anything about him because whenever I Google Richard DeSisto, all
- 51:25Speaker 6: it brings me up is Suck and Blow Jeremy Sisto.
- 51:30Speaker 2: Maybe he's like a cousin.
- 51:32Speaker 6: I don't know because he has the D in it.
- 51:33Speaker 6: It's DeSisto.
- 51:35Speaker 2: Oh, it's like a hyphen.
- 51:37Speaker 1: So there's not enough. He was probably his only role.
- 51:40Speaker 6: It was his only movie.
- 51:41Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 51:42Speaker 2: Yes. So we should be seeing him at conventions.
- 51:45Speaker 6: Richard DeSisto is an actor known for Dollman. Yeah.
- 51:49Speaker 4: Lucky.
- 51:50Speaker 2: That's how everybody knows it.
- 51:52Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 51:53Speaker 2: So let's just start with that opening, too, though. Because that,
- 51:57Speaker 2: it's funny. I went with a very specific one. And
- 51:59Speaker 2: I think it probably just says a lot about me.
- 52:01Speaker 2: Because to me, I'm like, is this Cobra? It just
- 52:04Speaker 2: feels like the opening of Cobra.
- 52:06Speaker 1: It's like, it's space Cobra.
- 52:07Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 52:08Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 52:08Speaker 6: I never saw Cobra.
- 52:10Speaker 1: Oh, we gotta watch Cobra.
- 52:11Speaker 2: It's also like he's doing a very Dirty Harry thing.
- 52:15Speaker 4: Yes, he is.
- 52:15Speaker 2: He's very much making fun of the Dirty Harry movies.
- 52:18Speaker 1: He is.
- 52:18Speaker 2: So I'm like, he's probably just doing Callahan, really. But
- 52:21Speaker 2: Cobra's kind of a ripoff of Dirty Harry in his
- 52:23Speaker 2: Stallone way. So this is, yeah. But that's what it
- 52:26Speaker 2: read through to me when he comes cruising in and
- 52:28Speaker 2: everybody's like, what are you doing here? And he just
- 52:30Speaker 2: goes in and does his thing.
- 52:31Speaker 1: And he does the same thing when he comes out,
- 52:33Speaker 1: you know, the kind of... You kind of made a
- 52:35Speaker 1: mess of things around here, Cobretti. But I guess that's
- 52:37Speaker 1: your style, you know. Damn right it is. Yeah, you know.
- 52:41Speaker 1: I would have chose a more subtle approach. But yeah,
- 52:46Speaker 1: that's the same thing. He comes out and they're like,
- 52:49Speaker 1: you know, damn, you really kind of made a mess
- 52:51Speaker 1: in there, you know. You sent two women to the
- 52:55Speaker 1: ER with heart attacks. And, you know, but he's like,
- 52:57Speaker 1: but he didn't kill anybody. This time.
- 53:00Speaker 2: This time.
- 53:01Speaker 1: You know.
- 53:02Speaker 2: Well, I mean, the police chief or the mayor, whoever
- 53:05Speaker 2: it was, is yelling at him. They had the exact
- 53:07Speaker 2: same thought I was. It was like, it's night out.
- 53:09Speaker 2: Take off those damn sunglasses.
- 53:11Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 53:11Speaker 2: So at least they said what I was thinking.
- 53:13Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 53:14Speaker 2: Like, I know you think you're cool. Take off those
- 53:16Speaker 2: damn sunglasses. But you can also tell this is 1991.
- 53:22Speaker 2: because it's okay for him to make fun of the
- 53:24Speaker 2: fat ladies, the fat boy.
- 53:28Speaker 6: Everybody was fat.
- 53:29Speaker 2: I was like, I don't feel like our hero, in quotes,
- 53:33Speaker 2: would be saying this in our current day version of
- 53:36Speaker 2: this movie. It's okay to make fun of fat people
- 53:40Speaker 2: in this movie. It's like, yep, this is 1991, all right.
- 53:45Speaker 2: I do like the statistics when they're going through all
- 53:49Speaker 2: the people that get killed. Most of it, I think,
- 53:51Speaker 2: was blaming it on the bad guy. But it was like, 3.6 dead.
- 53:56Speaker 1: 1.4 of the dead.
- 53:56Speaker 2: I was like, wait, wait.
- 53:58Speaker 1: How do you get these?
- 53:59Speaker 2: But actually, when you look at our villain, I guess
- 54:01Speaker 2: you can have a percentage of dead.
- 54:02Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 54:03Speaker 2: Because he's just a flying head.
- 54:04Speaker 6: Yeah. Yeah, I was like, I saw it and I
- 54:07Speaker 6: just busted it. I'm like, what the fuck is this?
- 54:09Speaker 1: Yeah, it's just a floating head.
- 54:13Speaker 2: I do like that it comes with a backstory that
- 54:15Speaker 2: like this guy, like our brick dude is the reason
- 54:19Speaker 2: he's like that. And it's not even a one shot.
- 54:21Speaker 2: It's just like, yeah, this run in together. I took
- 54:24Speaker 2: off your arms and this one I blew off the rest.
- 54:26Speaker 2: Like it's an ongoing thing that's turned him into this
- 54:29Speaker 2: floating head. And that's again, I feel like with a
- 54:33Speaker 2: lot of this movie, it like, it has a bigger
- 54:38Speaker 2: concept than its technology could deliver.
- 54:41Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 54:42Speaker 2: And that's what I kind of wish. I was like,
- 54:43Speaker 2: if they would have even waited a few years, I
- 54:47Speaker 2: think they could have been able to blue screen. Granted,
- 54:49Speaker 2: they couldn't afford blue screening, probably.
- 54:51Speaker 6: What's the difference between blue screen and green screen?
- 54:54Speaker 2: They're minor differences. It's basically the same thing. But they
- 54:57Speaker 2: started blue.
- 54:57Speaker 6: Well, thanks, Captain Obvious. I didn't know if there was
- 54:59Speaker 6: a technical difference.
- 55:00Speaker 2: I think they switched to green because things stood out
- 55:03Speaker 2: more in that. I think, like, darker colors, blacks and stuff,
- 55:07Speaker 2: blended into the blue and made it look more fake.
- 55:09Speaker 2: So I think the green is so drastically different that
- 55:12Speaker 2: just about everything stands.
- 55:14Speaker 1: Out on the green screen. Yeah, because you notice when
- 55:17Speaker 1: they screen some of the shots of him, he looks
- 55:24Speaker 1: kind of, not out of focus, but the shading looks off.
- 55:29Speaker 2: Yeah, and I don't think they did any, like, even
- 55:32Speaker 2: blue screen stuff in this one i think it was
- 55:34Speaker 2: all like super old school yeah it was like it
- 55:36Speaker 2: was like half of it was like perspective shots so
- 55:39Speaker 2: that's why some people would be like way off in
- 55:42Speaker 2: the distance and some of it was just like matting
- 55:44Speaker 2: them together and like it was just old school technology
- 55:47Speaker 2: that like i think also they sort of steered away
- 55:51Speaker 2: from it as much as possible because they knew their
- 55:53Speaker 2: budget limitations and their effects limitations so it's like there's
- 55:56Speaker 2: so many times when like if this were made now,
- 55:59Speaker 2: there'd be tons of shots with them together and doing
- 56:00Speaker 2: stuff and him picking things up. And like, yeah, instead
- 56:03Speaker 2: all we get is just them. Like one shot, a
- 56:06Speaker 2: shot of him being supposedly little on the table, a
- 56:09Speaker 2: shot of her being supposedly big over here in the room.
- 56:11Speaker 2: Like it's rare. Like there's like one for each section.
- 56:15Speaker 2: They'll do like a mat together shot where you can
- 56:17Speaker 2: see like, see, he's tiny. Like, so yeah, I think
- 56:20Speaker 2: they had like a bigger concept that they probably wanted
- 56:23Speaker 2: to go for. And like limitations kind of kept it
- 56:25Speaker 2: at a minimum.
- 56:26Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 56:28Speaker 6: I want to talk about one of my favorite scenes
- 56:30Speaker 6: in the whole movie. All right. Shortly after he lands
- 56:34Speaker 6: and he shoots a couple of the bad guys while
- 56:36Speaker 6: trying to save the girl.
- 56:37Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 56:38Speaker 6: And she's like arguing with him like, no, we have
- 56:40Speaker 6: to leave. And he's like, no, we're not going anywhere.
- 56:43Speaker 6: So she straight up picks his fucking ship up.
- 56:45Speaker 1: And runs. That was pretty funny.
- 56:49Speaker 2: I mean, it is hard to fight with somebody who's
- 56:52Speaker 2: way bigger than you.
- 56:53Speaker 6: She picked up his whole fucking ship. Yeah.
- 56:57Speaker 1: Yeah, she just grabbed it like a toy and took off.
- 57:00Speaker 2: That's pretty much what it was.
- 57:01Speaker 1: And it's the whole thing of him bouncing around inside
- 57:05Speaker 1: of his ship as she's running. Because you remember?
- 57:06Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 57:07Speaker 1: He's just like, hey, hey, stop.
- 57:09Speaker 2: Come on, put it down.
- 57:10Speaker 6: And her annoying-ass kid. Why do people got to have
- 57:14Speaker 6: annoying-ass kids in movies?
- 57:16Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 57:16Speaker 2: I keep telling people, stop having children.
- 57:19Speaker 6: She brings home this cool, of course, a little fucker.
- 57:21Speaker 6: As soon as she walks in the door, he's like,
- 57:22Speaker 6: give it to me, give it to me. And I'm
- 57:23Speaker 6: just like, calm your shit. Nobody said the spaceship's for you.
- 57:26Speaker 6: Maybe mommy wants a spaceship. Maybe it's not yours. Calm
- 57:30Speaker 6: your shit, you little brat.
- 57:31Speaker 2: Nope, he's a kid.
- 57:32Speaker 6: Then invites the whole goddamn neighborhood over. And I'm like,
- 57:36Speaker 6: first of all, I don't want all these fucking people
- 57:37Speaker 6: in my house.
- 57:38Speaker 2: Do you understand keeping on the down low?
- 57:40Speaker 6: This kid is not understanding secret alien men.
- 57:43Speaker 2: Nope, not at all. invites everybody over to gawk at him.
- 57:46Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 57:47Speaker 2: Just like, that's not cool. I don't want you staring
- 57:49Speaker 2: at me.
- 57:49Speaker 1: Get the hell out of here. Yeah, he's like, what's
- 57:51Speaker 1: the good of having a Martian if you can't show
- 57:52Speaker 1: him off?
- 57:53Speaker 2: Shut up.
- 57:54Speaker 1: He's not a Martian.
- 57:55Speaker 6: What's the name of his planet again?
- 57:57Speaker 2: I don't know. It's 10,000 light years away from Earth.
- 58:00Speaker 6: That's with an A. I remember that much. We weren't
- 58:03Speaker 6: there very long, so it wasn't that important. But yeah,
- 58:05Speaker 6: I loved the beginning scene.
- 58:07Speaker 2: Those cool cityscapes that we get.
- 58:09Speaker 6: I love the beginning, because where they're being held hostage
- 58:12Speaker 6: is a goddamn laundromat. Yeah. And he just straight up
- 58:16Speaker 6: walks in there, throws his shit in the washer, puts
- 58:18Speaker 6: his coins in. While this guy is... His way of
- 58:21Speaker 6: holding hostages is to tie a bunch of fat ladies together.
- 58:25Speaker 6: Around him in the middle. Yeah, with him in the middle.
- 58:28Speaker 6: I'm not trying to be like, that's his plan. It's
- 58:30Speaker 6: not like I'm... This is his... This is what he
- 58:33Speaker 6: keeps calling them, his fat ladies.
- 58:35Speaker 2: Yeah, this is what he came up with. And this
- 58:36Speaker 2: is how it's going to work out for him. So
- 58:39Speaker 2: he thinks.
- 58:39Speaker 6: Yeah, and it doesn't work out because... brick is pretty much,
- 58:43Speaker 6: I will shoot a hole through this lady and it
- 58:44Speaker 6: will go through you into the next lady. So, okay.
- 58:49Speaker 6: Which just pretty much causes a stampede and they all
- 58:52Speaker 6: just squish the guy. But he lives, I think, because
- 58:54Speaker 6: there were no casualties, were there?
- 58:55Speaker 1: No, the lady, both of the ladies had heart attacks.
- 58:59Speaker 6: There were no casualties.
- 59:01Speaker 1: No, no, they were both in the hospital recovering.
- 59:04Speaker 2: But I do like our cityscapes there in our future world.
- 59:08Speaker 2: And even then, I was looking at it going, that
- 59:09Speaker 2: looks like a decent map painting. I was like, where
- 59:13Speaker 2: did you get that from? So if you look it up,
- 59:16Speaker 2: a lot of those shots of the cityscapes in the
- 59:18Speaker 2: future world at the beginning... are New Chicago in Buck Rogers.
- 59:22Speaker 6: Wow.
- 59:23Speaker 2: They, like, I guess, bought the rights or just used them.
- 59:26Speaker 2: I don't know which.
- 59:26Speaker 1: Okay, I can buy that because even though it looks futuristic,
- 59:29Speaker 1: it still looks like Chicago.
- 59:30Speaker 2: It still looks like the 70s futuristic.
- 59:33Speaker 1: Yeah, because even the laundromat looks like, oh, we're in
- 59:35Speaker 1: the Bronx?
- 59:36Speaker 6: Where are we?
- 59:36Speaker 2: Yeah, pretty much.
- 59:38Speaker 1: Yep, we're in the Bronx.
- 59:39Speaker 2: That's where we're going. And that's what I think is funny.
- 59:41Speaker 2: We get Future World in the beginning, but when we
- 59:43Speaker 2: come to And this is like a specialty of, of
- 59:47Speaker 2: Albert Pugh. What little I've seen of him, not all
- 59:50Speaker 2: of his movies, but a lot of his movies, he
- 59:52Speaker 2: kind of likes to turn everything into this like post-apocalyptic landscape.
- 59:57Speaker 2: And it's like, it's not really like we're in post-apocalyptic future.
- 1:00:01Speaker 2: We're in current day Bronx, but it looks like the
- 1:00:04Speaker 2: end of the earth has come and gone.
- 1:00:06Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:00:07Speaker 2: Like it is nothing but desolate buildings and rubble and like,
- 1:00:11Speaker 2: half of the shots are in like that setting to
- 1:00:14Speaker 2: the point that it really could be like the end
- 1:00:16Speaker 2: of days and wouldn't be any change at all. And
- 1:00:19Speaker 2: then later they'll be just driving around the streets and
- 1:00:21Speaker 2: things are normal. And I'm just like, where did, where
- 1:00:23Speaker 2: did this knockdown building come from?
- 1:00:25Speaker 6: And then boyfriends ID in cars as they go by.
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:00:29Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: Gen one Celica, Mark two golf.
- 1:00:34Speaker 6: Every time I see a car go by, I'm like,
- 1:00:35Speaker 6: how long is it going to take? There it goes.
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: Not every car. It's just certain cars that I like.
- 1:00:39Speaker 6: Well, I know which ones you're going to ID usually.
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: Actually, I'm sorry, that was a Gen 1 Supra. It
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: wasn't a Celica. Well, I mean, it could be because
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: it was a Supra Celica.
- 1:00:49Speaker 2: All of the above.
- 1:00:51Speaker 6: But I want to take a second again to talk about,
- 1:00:53Speaker 6: holy shit, how long was the intro credits?
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: I almost fell asleep through the intro credits.
- 1:01:01Speaker 2: We're in space.
- 1:01:03Speaker 6: They went through everything, like all the credits that usually
- 1:01:05Speaker 6: they put at the end of the movie. They put
- 1:01:07Speaker 6: it at the beginning of the movie.
- 1:01:07Speaker 2: I mean, that's the way old-timey movies used to be.
- 1:01:09Speaker 2: But by the 90s, we hadn't done that, really. So
- 1:01:12Speaker 2: I guess he was trying to be old-school about it.
- 1:01:14Speaker 6: Because it just started. Because I was going to post
- 1:01:16Speaker 6: a picture on Instagram. And I kept waiting for the
- 1:01:19Speaker 6: title card to come up. And I waited.
- 1:01:21Speaker 2: And you're like, did this freeze up? Because I did
- 1:01:25Speaker 2: for a minute. I was like, did the movie stop playing?
- 1:01:26Speaker 4: Oh, no.
- 1:01:27Speaker 2: We're still just in blackness of space.
- 1:01:29Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: She was like, good God, are they thanking everybody?
- 1:01:31Speaker 6: And also at the end credits, how we had to
- 1:01:36Speaker 6: show everybody but Little Sweet. Yeah, they did.
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: They gave everybody had, I think it was like everybody
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: in that film. Whatever roles they had, they kind of
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: did a little short flashback of each person's roles and
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: then had their name under it.
- 1:01:51Speaker 6: Half of the movie was credits.
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:01:55Speaker 2: Again, this doesn't surprise me as we go on in
- 1:01:57Speaker 2: these series of films.
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: But the guy that she was wanting to know what
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: his name was, he was the one that they didn't show.
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: They showed people in their.
- 1:02:06Speaker 6: That had less screen time.
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:02:08Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:02:08Speaker 6: Than Arm Bruiser or Arm Breaker or Arm Wrestler.
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, he was in the film a lot
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: more than, like, the mayor. You know? The mayor was
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: in it for, like, one scene.
- 1:02:19Speaker 6: And Arm Bruiser also showed up. He was one of the...
- 1:02:22Speaker 6: He was the guy that burned up, that they popped
- 1:02:25Speaker 6: up at the last.
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:02:27Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, he shot him a couple times. And then
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: at the end of the movie... Towards the end, right
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: before he kills the bad guy.
- 1:02:36Speaker 2: It blew him up, remember?
- 1:02:37Speaker 6: Because he shot the car until it exploded.
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. That's right, it did. It did explode.
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: He was on fire. So, he pops up again, you know,
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: dual wielding. I don't know if it was Uzis or
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: AKs that he had. I can't remember. Just firing all wildly. And,
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: you know, Dollman finishes him off.
- 1:02:58Speaker 6: Fucking A.
- 1:02:59Speaker 2: Yeah. Everything about it was just, again, like, almost leftover 80s.
- 1:03:04Speaker 2: The fact that she works at a toxic waste plant.
- 1:03:08Speaker 2: Everything is just so 80s grunginess. Even South Bronx looks
- 1:03:15Speaker 2: clean compared to this version of the South Bronx.
- 1:03:18Speaker 6: That was really how South Bronx was. I don't know
- 1:03:21Speaker 6: about now.
- 1:03:23Speaker 2: But certainly, yeah. But even then, it's dialed up to
- 1:03:27Speaker 2: 11 as the post-apocalyptic version of South Bronx after this
- 1:03:31Speaker 2: toxic waste plant melts down that she's working at every day.
- 1:03:35Speaker 2: Where her boss is sitting on her. And where did
- 1:03:37Speaker 2: he want to take her?
- 1:03:38Speaker 6: Guns N' Roses concert. I'd be like, fuck yeah. Take
- 1:03:42Speaker 6: me to the Guns N' Roses concert.
- 1:03:44Speaker 2: See, they were cool. They knew who to name drop.
- 1:03:47Speaker 6: This was 91. Was this like around the same.
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: Time that User Illusions came out?
- 1:03:52Speaker 2: I was trying to.
- 1:03:53Speaker 6: Figure out if it was before or after. I can
- 1:03:57Speaker 6: tell it was the same year.
- 1:03:58Speaker 2: It's right around then, yeah. So this is the peak
- 1:04:01Speaker 2: Jump the Shark moment. Like this is the the biggest produced,
- 1:04:05Speaker 2: highest profile they'll ever be, and then they already start
- 1:04:08Speaker 2: diving down quickly. So, yep, this is when even mainstream
- 1:04:13Speaker 2: people would be named dropping guns and roses. Or, you know,
- 1:04:16Speaker 2: a super high profile movie like this.
- 1:04:18Speaker 6: I'm getting the feeling you didn't enjoy this movie quite
- 1:04:20Speaker 6: as much as I did.
- 1:04:21Speaker 2: I think I just realized the limitations of it. Because
- 1:04:25Speaker 2: there are so many times when I'm just.
- 1:04:26Speaker 6: Like, I enjoyed it because of its limitations, because it
- 1:04:30Speaker 6: did entertain me way more than movies with higher production value.
- 1:04:35Speaker 3: Yes.
- 1:04:36Speaker 2: Which is unusual for you, actually. I was still, as
- 1:04:38Speaker 2: we got into it, I was like, I forgot how
- 1:04:40Speaker 2: cheap these full movie movies were. So I was like,
- 1:04:42Speaker 2: this still might be too low a budget for you.
- 1:04:44Speaker 2: So I'm glad you enjoyed it.
- 1:04:46Speaker 6: Because I fully enjoyed Brick.
- 1:04:48Speaker 2: Brick's good.
- 1:04:48Speaker 6: He reminded me so much of Sledgehammer that I was
- 1:04:50Speaker 6: in it for him. And a little sweet.
- 1:04:52Speaker 2: How about the times when they would, again, just cut
- 1:04:56Speaker 2: to a Ken doll and a black leather jacket? Like
- 1:04:59Speaker 2: when he jumped out the window.
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: Yeah, where he's hanging onto the car.
- 1:05:02Speaker 2: Just flip the Ken doll out the window. Yeah. And
- 1:05:05Speaker 2: then somehow he catches onto the car. I'm like, you know,
- 1:05:09Speaker 2: isn't that like a hundred story drop for him?
- 1:05:11Speaker 6: I was like, I spent way longer than a person should. Like,
- 1:05:15Speaker 6: what part of the car is he hanging onto? Is
- 1:05:16Speaker 6: it the back window? Is it the back bumper? Is
- 1:05:18Speaker 6: it the side?
- 1:05:18Speaker 2: It kind of seemed like the back window, but I'm
- 1:05:20Speaker 2: not sure.
- 1:05:21Speaker 6: It was the side window.
- 1:05:22Speaker 2: Yeah. It kind of seemed like it was the very
- 1:05:23Speaker 2: back window. It took me a minute to get there.
- 1:05:24Speaker 6: I was very invested at this point. I was concerned
- 1:05:28Speaker 6: for his well-being. I wanted to know what was going on.
- 1:05:31Speaker 6: You know, I was in it to win it.
- 1:05:38Speaker 2: What do you think about his... You like the gun.
- 1:05:40Speaker 2: How about his fancy return to his hand function?
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: Oh, no.
- 1:05:43Speaker 2: That's what I was saying. Can I get one of those?
- 1:05:45Speaker 2: I mean, shit.
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: They don't go into that at all.
- 1:05:46Speaker 2: That's pretty handy. He only uses it like twice.
- 1:05:49Speaker 6: He used that same pun and I laughed. And I'm like...
- 1:05:52Speaker 6: That was awful.
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: I was like, I'd like to have one of those.
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: It would be pretty handy.
- 1:06:01Speaker 6: I want it for other random stuff. I can't find
- 1:06:03Speaker 6: the remote.
- 1:06:04Speaker 2: I was thinking that all the time, but that's usually
- 1:06:06Speaker 2: just me across the room trying to use the force.
- 1:06:09Speaker 2: I don't want to get up.
- 1:06:10Speaker 6: I can't reach my phone.
- 1:06:12Speaker 2: Just come here. How many times did they work in
- 1:06:19Speaker 2: the size joke? I want to see a 13-inch man.
- 1:06:25Speaker 2: Tell me size doesn't matter, baby. I was like, yes,
- 1:06:31Speaker 2: we see your sense of humor.
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: We get it.
- 1:06:32Speaker 6: I liked it.
- 1:06:34Speaker 2: I don't even care.
- 1:06:36Speaker 6: Maybe I was just in a good mood because I
- 1:06:37Speaker 6: was off for a couple days of work.
- 1:06:40Speaker 2: And you didn't have to watch that other movie.
- 1:06:41Speaker 6: Yeah, I was just like, woo! I will take anything
- 1:06:46Speaker 6: over Robot Ninja. I will.
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: Yeah, I was afraid Robot Ninja was going to be
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: on the lines of like, die you zombie bastards.
- 1:06:53Speaker 6: Which we did not make it through.
- 1:06:54Speaker 4: No.
- 1:06:56Speaker 1: Or what was the other one? Jesus Christ Vampire Slayer?
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: That one looked pretty bad.
- 1:07:02Speaker 2: Maybe just the trailer of that.
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: I think we tried to watch it and I was
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: just like, nope, I'm done.
- 1:07:09Speaker 2: It's rough.
- 1:07:11Speaker 6: Have you ever walked out of a movie theater because
- 1:07:13Speaker 6: the movie was so bad?
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: Yes, I have.
- 1:07:14Speaker 6: What movie?
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: What is the name of the movie?
- 1:07:21Speaker 6: Give me something to work with.
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: Chick's got one arm. Her name is Mona.
- 1:07:27Speaker 2: Who's the boss?
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: No, no, no, no, no. It's like, I remember, the
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: only thing I remember, because it was when I got
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: up and got out of the movie, because I was like,
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: this movie sucks, and I can't remember what it was,
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: but she's like, I think the guy's having an affair
- 1:07:41Speaker 1: with her or something, and something happens, and she gets
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: her arm cut off, and later on during the movie,
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: they're like, it's a sex scene, and she looks at him,
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: she goes, do you want the arm on or off
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: like that? And I was like, I'm done.
- 1:07:56Speaker 2: This sounds great.
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: I was like, Oh, get out of here. Uh, what
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: is the name of that movie?
- 1:08:03Speaker 2: Do we know who's in this?
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: I don't know who it was. It was, it would
- 1:08:07Speaker 1: have been nineties. It played at, uh, village eight. I
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: went there because it was a dollar and we were
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: just bored. We were out and it was probably a
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: hot day. And we were looking for some place.
- 1:08:20Speaker 6: Air conditioning.
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: We were looking for some place with AC that we
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: could hang out and not get kicked out of. So
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: we were like, a lot of times we were like,
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: fuck it. We got a dollar. If we're not going
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: to Taco Bell, we're going to the movies. And, shit,
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: Romeo is Bleeding?
- 1:08:35Speaker 3: No.
- 1:08:36Speaker 2: Romeo Must Die?
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: No, not Romeo Must Die. I think it's called Romeo
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: is Bleeding.
- 1:08:41Speaker 2: That one is, I.
- 1:08:43Speaker 6: Don't know. If you Google, do you want the arm
- 1:08:46Speaker 6: on or off?
- 1:08:47Speaker 2: Romeo is Bleeding has Gary Oldman, doesn't it?
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: It might be that movie. That might be the one
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: that I got up and walked out of because I
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: just didn't care.
- 1:08:54Speaker 2: I'm pretty sure that's Gary Oldman. And I have heard
- 1:08:57Speaker 2: Not Great Thing. Isn't that like.
- 1:08:58Speaker 6: 1993.
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: I'm waiting for the 5G to work down here.
- 1:09:05Speaker 6: Does it have somebody named Mona Demarkov?
- 1:09:08Speaker 8: Yep.
- 1:09:09Speaker 6: Lena Olin.
- 1:09:10Speaker 2: See, Lena Olin. That's what I was just about to say.
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: That's the movie I got up and walked out of. Now,
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: don't get me wrong, it probably could have been a
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: good movie.
- 1:09:16Speaker 6: Who knows?
- 1:09:17Speaker 2: I have not heard good things about it, actually.
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: But in 93, I didn't give a shit. And I just,
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: you know, I didn't want to see it.
- 1:09:26Speaker 2: Certainly higher budget than what we're talking about today.
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: Well, you know, I mean, it would have been around
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: the time where we went to the theater and I
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: probably saw Army of Darkness like 20 times. Yeah. Because, again,
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: it was at the Dollar Theater, and we're like, fuck it,
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: we'll go see Army of Darkness again and again and again.
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: And it was groovy. And it was great. Same thing
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: with Natural Born Killers. Dude, I've probably seen Natural Born
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: Killers more times than any movie in my life. I
- 1:09:56Speaker 1: think we saw it just about every day it was
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: out at that theater. Just because we had nothing else
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: to do, we had nowhere else to go. that had
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: air conditioning because nobody's parents would let us in at
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: their houses.
- 1:10:12Speaker 2: That says a lot about you kids.
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: Yeah, we couldn't hang out at anybody's house. We'd get
- 1:10:16Speaker 1: kicked out of the mall most of the time because
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: we were fucking causing problems. So we would go to
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: the movie theater, you know. And we liked that movie
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: because it was violent.
- 1:10:25Speaker 2: It's definitely violent.
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: So, you know, and it had, what's her name in it?
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: Juliette Lewis, who I never really found attractive. She was crazy.
- 1:10:36Speaker 2: She was nuts. She does crazy really well.
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: All the other guys that I hung out with were
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: just in love with her, and that's when they went
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: to go see her.
- 1:10:44Speaker 2: She's got quirky appeal.
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: She just doesn't do it for me at all.
- 1:10:52Speaker 6: I've only walked out of one movie theater.
- 1:10:54Speaker 2: I know it.
- 1:10:55Speaker 6: You know it?
- 1:10:56Speaker 2: I know it.
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: What is it?
- 1:10:58Speaker 6: Go ahead, then.
- 1:11:00Speaker 2: Is it that Mafia movie?
- 1:11:02Speaker 6: Yes, it is.
- 1:11:02Speaker 2: With Christina Applegate.
- 1:11:03Speaker 6: Yes, it is.
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: Which movie is that? I don't know.
- 1:11:06Speaker 6: I walked out of it.
- 1:11:08Speaker 2: You don't know the name?
- 1:11:09Speaker 6: Mafia. The name of the movie is Mafia.
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: Oh, the name of the movie is Mafia.
- 1:11:12Speaker 2: Yeah, it's like, isn't it Jane Austen's Mafia or something?
- 1:11:15Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 1:11:16Speaker 2: It's a wannabe airplane type of dumb comedy, but it's
- 1:11:21Speaker 2: not like Zucker Brothers. It's not that level. It is
- 1:11:24Speaker 2: before the Waynes brothers ran that thing into the ground.
- 1:11:27Speaker 2: It was right before that was Jane Austen's Mafia.
- 1:11:31Speaker 6: Wow. I don't even remember there being Jane Austen attached
- 1:11:33Speaker 6: to it. I just remember it was Mafia.
- 1:11:34Speaker 2: I think that's how, again, I think they dropped that
- 1:11:36Speaker 2: because people probably thought it was actually Jane Austen. It
- 1:11:39Speaker 2: was coming after the, like, Emma's and Sense and Sensibility's
- 1:11:42Speaker 2: kind of movies, and they were trying to market on
- 1:11:45Speaker 2: that as a funny thing, and then after a while,
- 1:11:47Speaker 2: I think they, like, downplayed that part because people didn't
- 1:11:50Speaker 2: get the, people are dumb, especially the people going to
- 1:11:52Speaker 2: see this movie, were dumb, and they weren't going to
- 1:11:54Speaker 2: go see it because they thought it was actually going
- 1:11:56Speaker 2: to be, like, a period piece.
- 1:11:58Speaker 6: It was at the Dollar Theater, and I wanted my
- 1:12:00Speaker 6: money back.
- 1:12:00Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: See, I almost walked out of Donnie Brasco. I got bored.
- 1:12:05Speaker 2: Forget about it.
- 1:12:06Speaker 1: But I sat through it. It wasn't one... Yeah, there's
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: only one movie that I've ever walked out of and
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: demanded my money back, but that was not for the
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: reason of it being bad. That was Mortal Kombat 2.
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: And it was because it completely sold out, almost. And
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: instead of them saying that the theater was sold out,
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: they just sat me in the floor in the very
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: front of the theater....
- 1:12:33Speaker 2: See, again, this is the thing that I don't think
- 1:12:34Speaker 2: would happen anymore.
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: Yeah, or I would have had to.
- 1:12:36Speaker 2: Fire codes, people. Come on.
- 1:12:37Speaker 1: Yeah, well, it was like you're just sitting on the
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: floor and look up at the screen. And I told them, no,
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: this is stupid. I'm not sitting in the seat and
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: I'm not sitting on the fucking floor. And I went
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: back out to the ticket booth and told them, hey,
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: I want my money back. And they were like, well, no,
- 1:12:50Speaker 1: you already got your tickets. You're there for the movie.
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: And I was like, there's no seats. They sat me
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: on the floor and they didn't want to give me
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: my money back at first. Until I ended up getting
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: the manager, so I pulled a Karen.
- 1:13:06Speaker 2: Usually they don't fight it that much. They're just like, eh, okay, whatever.
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: Well, this was at Tinseltown.
- 1:13:10Speaker 2: No, they're trouble already. I was never thrilled with them.
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: Yeah, this was at Tinseltown, and we saw it there
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: just because they had the big screens. And, yeah, I
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: had to fight to get my money back.
- 1:13:21Speaker 6: Is that where we saw Star Wars in the front row?
- 1:13:23Speaker 2: Yeah, and that sucked, too. Their front row, again, like now,
- 1:13:26Speaker 2: just about every seat's pretty good in super-elevated areas. But
- 1:13:30Speaker 2: this was pre-stadium seating, so so many seats in a
- 1:13:34Speaker 2: lot of those theaters totally sucked.
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: Anything in the front row.
- 1:13:37Speaker 2: Definitely anything up front.
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: Yeah, anything up front was bad. Just because the way
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: the screen was angled, it wasn't flat.
- 1:13:47Speaker 2: It was rounded on the ends.
- 1:13:50Speaker 6: Yeah, it was.
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: Rounded on the ends, and then it started at the bottom,
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: and as the screen went up, it kind of.
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: I'm trying to think of the word. Yeah, it kind
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: of bowed up into the ceiling in a way. It
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: was weird. So you were staring straight up at the screen,
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: which was not cool.
- 1:14:10Speaker 6: But you eventually got your money.
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: I did. I got my money back, and then I
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: think we went to... What's the one that's torn down now?
- 1:14:18Speaker 5: Showcase.
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: Showcase. We went to Showcase.
- 1:14:20Speaker 2: Showcase had good stuff. Theirs were rounded, but you really
- 1:14:23Speaker 2: had to be right in the front row before you noticed.
- 1:14:25Speaker 2: It was still not a good idea to be that close. But, like, there's,
- 1:14:29Speaker 2: in the original run of, like, the first, you know,
- 1:14:32Speaker 2: three screens or whatever the good ones were, they were, like,
- 1:14:35Speaker 2: huge and they were kind of rounded into the, like, carpet. Like,
- 1:14:38Speaker 2: I remember if you sat up front, like, the carpet
- 1:14:41Speaker 2: went straight up into where the screen was. Like, it
- 1:14:44Speaker 2: was one thing. It just ovaled its way right up there.
- 1:14:47Speaker 2: That was really cool.
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: Well, the reason we ended up going to Showcase was
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: because at the time, Tinseltown had just opened. yeah that
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: was the hot new theater that was where everybody was
- 1:14:56Speaker 1: going I.
- 1:14:56Speaker 2: Think that's why I didn't like it so much because
- 1:14:58Speaker 2: I was so like I spent so much of my
- 1:15:00Speaker 2: life at Showcase.
- 1:15:01Speaker 1: Yeah I saw I saw Empire Strikes Back I'm sure
- 1:15:05Speaker 1: everything I saw when I was a kid was at
- 1:15:07Speaker 1: Showcase um Clue yep I'm sure that's where.
- 1:15:11Speaker 6: I saw that one too with Tim Curry yeah.
- 1:15:14Speaker 1: Uh Close Encounters that was probably one of the earliest
- 1:15:18Speaker 1: movies I remember that and Mary Poppins seeing that at
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: Showcase um No, I didn't see E.T.
- 1:15:25Speaker 6: Mary Poppins, y'all.
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: Yeah, I didn't see E.T.
- 1:15:26Speaker 3: There.
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: I saw E.T. at Florence Cinemas. Because I was at
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: my grandparents. My grandparents took me to see E.T.
- 1:15:34Speaker 2: I'm at Florence, y'all.
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:15:37Speaker 2: If you hang out at Florence, that was hilarious.
- 1:15:39Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: And what kid didn't cry during E.T.
- 1:15:43Speaker 2: I'm still kind of traumatized by it.
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: And you know what?
- 1:15:46Speaker 6: I don't remember ever crying during E.T.
- 1:15:49Speaker 3: You don't?
- 1:15:50Speaker 1: When you're a little kid, when they take E.T.
- 1:15:52Speaker 6: Away.
- 1:15:52Speaker 2: Spoilers, but when he's dead.
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: Yeah, when he's dead.
- 1:15:55Speaker 2: That wasn't a problem for you?
- 1:15:57Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:15:57Speaker 6: I remember crying. I mean, it's a kid's movie. I figure,
- 1:15:59Speaker 6: even me, I'm like, well, we're going to fucking save him.
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: Not really crying, but you get teared up a little bit.
- 1:16:04Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: I remember my grandfather making fun of me. Just, you know,
- 1:16:09Speaker 1: what are you getting teary-eyed? What's wrong with you?
- 1:16:12Speaker 2: You know?
- 1:16:13Speaker 6: E.T. 's dead.
- 1:16:14Speaker 2: Shut up.
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: Yeah, now my granddad was pretty tough. He didn't put
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: up with that crap.
- 1:16:19Speaker 6: He didn't care if E.T. died.
- 1:16:20Speaker 1: No, he didn't.
- 1:16:23Speaker 6: Beaches made me cry.
- 1:16:25Speaker 2: For different reasons for me.
- 1:16:26Speaker 1: He once had to hold a guy's brain in his
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: skull while they drove him to the hospital. He lived
- 1:16:32Speaker 1: a harder life. He lived a harder life, yeah. He
- 1:16:35Speaker 1: was almost killed in the hospital by a guy when
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: he was 12, I think it was. Because he had
- 1:16:43Speaker 1: fallen broken his hip and they wired his hip into
- 1:16:47Speaker 1: his hip joint so he had a belt up shoe
- 1:16:50Speaker 1: you know he had one leg higher the other but
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: when he was in the hospital uh the guy next
- 1:16:55Speaker 1: to him in the hospital bed uh i guess he
- 1:16:59Speaker 1: was psychotic and the guy flipped out and tried to
- 1:17:03Speaker 1: kill him.
- 1:17:04Speaker 2: Nice yeah this is why you don't get those shared
- 1:17:06Speaker 2: rooms no that was always a terrible idea back then
- 1:17:09Speaker 2: the That curtain is not going to protect you.
- 1:17:12Speaker 1: No. He lived a hard life. So did E.T.? He
- 1:17:18Speaker 1: wasn't going to put up with however old I was
- 1:17:22Speaker 1: at the time. 8, 9, 10. Getting teary eyed at
- 1:17:27Speaker 1: dead E.T.
- 1:17:32Speaker 2: Well, speaking of creatures from other planets. Duh, man.
- 1:17:35Speaker 1: I love that movie.
- 1:17:37Speaker 6: It's good.
- 1:17:38Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:17:39Speaker 6: And it's not in my top ten or anything.
- 1:17:41Speaker 1: It's entertaining.
- 1:17:42Speaker 6: I don't regret having seen it.
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: No, it was pretty good.
- 1:17:45Speaker 6: It's better than some of the shit we've watched.
- 1:17:46Speaker 2: We had to piece together a fun movie. So here
- 1:17:49Speaker 2: was the thing. I didn't know how much you knew
- 1:17:51Speaker 2: about the series. If we're now digging into the whole
- 1:17:54Speaker 2: Full Moon experience.
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: Is it a series?
- 1:17:57Speaker 2: Well, and that's the thing. I remember even at the time.
- 1:18:00Speaker 6: Or a shared universe.
- 1:18:02Speaker 2: Yeah, it was like the band family... that runs Full
- 1:18:07Speaker 2: Moon Features, was trying to create their own shared universe
- 1:18:11Speaker 2: well before the Marvel world. And like they did have,
- 1:18:14Speaker 2: in the beginning, they just had kind of the cinema
- 1:18:16Speaker 2: horror style and they did a lot of horror. But
- 1:18:18Speaker 2: like as time went on, they wanted to full on
- 1:18:21Speaker 2: cross over. And I think I remember that about this
- 1:18:23Speaker 2: when I was like this. And that's another thing. I
- 1:18:25Speaker 2: think that's maybe why it was so short. He's like,
- 1:18:28Speaker 2: and then we'll have like a whole nother movie where
- 1:18:30Speaker 2: he goes into the... these characters in this movie, which
- 1:18:32Speaker 2: is exactly what happened. And we've already watched that movie.
- 1:18:35Speaker 2: We watched demonic toys. And then after this movie came out,
- 1:18:39Speaker 2: they did dumb man versus demonic toys.
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: Oh, they did. Didn't they?
- 1:18:43Speaker 2: They did. So I think this is like, I think
- 1:18:45Speaker 2: that's almost why they.
- 1:18:47Speaker 6: Who played Dull Man in that one?
- 1:18:47Speaker 2: I think that's why they, like, cropped it off, like,
- 1:18:50Speaker 2: so quickly. They were just like, well, we don't want
- 1:18:51Speaker 2: to get into this story. Was it the same actor?
- 1:18:53Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:18:53Speaker 2: Tim Thomerson still plays Brick.
- 1:18:55Speaker 6: Oh, it is good.
- 1:18:56Speaker 2: So I'm assuming we're going to, yeah, we're going to
- 1:18:58Speaker 2: have to add that to the upcoming list. I didn't
- 1:19:00Speaker 2: know if in between you want to watch Bad Channels. Now,
- 1:19:04Speaker 2: that's another Full Moon movie that is tied into these.
- 1:19:08Speaker 2: I don't, it's got a minor tie-in, but it also,
- 1:19:11Speaker 2: I watched the trailer, it looks super cheesy and fun,
- 1:19:14Speaker 2: and they're, like, working at a radio station, and there
- 1:19:16Speaker 2: might be, like, a rock band, like, cameo in there,
- 1:19:20Speaker 2: I don't know, it seems really ridiculously fun, so I
- 1:19:22Speaker 2: don't know if, because that comes next, I think, in
- 1:19:24Speaker 2: the timeline, I think Bad Channels is 92, same as
- 1:19:28Speaker 2: Demonic Toys, and then we get When.
- 1:19:32Speaker 1: Scanners, when did Scanners come out? Trancers.
- 1:19:34Speaker 2: Trancers was before this one, yeah. Trancers is, yeah, like,
- 1:19:39Speaker 2: because this is 91, so I think like late 80s,
- 1:19:42Speaker 2: like 88 maybe. Oh, okay. Something, maybe 86 on that
- 1:19:46Speaker 2: first one, and then Full Moon picks it up and
- 1:19:48Speaker 2: does 2 and 3 pretty quick. So, yeah, I think
- 1:19:51Speaker 2: by the time 91, I think Trancers 2 was already out,
- 1:19:55Speaker 2: and I think they were already working on 3 more
- 1:19:57Speaker 2: or less. Yeah. But yeah, so, but that one's not connected.
- 1:20:01Speaker 2: But yeah, definitely, Dollman, Bad Channels, and Demonic Toys are
- 1:20:05Speaker 2: all in the same universe and eventually crossover with a
- 1:20:08Speaker 2: lot of the same characters coming together in that last movie. So,
- 1:20:11Speaker 2: I'm assuming we can pencil these in for future episodes.
- 1:20:16Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:20:18Speaker 2: I was a sucker for Full Moon back in the day,
- 1:20:20Speaker 2: I gotta say. I mean, they're cheesy.
- 1:20:22Speaker 6: I think I'm very familiar with their.
- 1:20:24Speaker 2: I was part of the freaking fan club. Somewhere in
- 1:20:26Speaker 2: a box I have a t-shirt that has the full
- 1:20:28Speaker 2: moon logo on it. Because they really did.
- 1:20:31Speaker 6: And you didn't wear it today for the podcast?
- 1:20:33Speaker 2: I'm sure I couldn't have crammed myself into it anymore.
- 1:20:35Speaker 6: I wore my sledgehammer shirt.
- 1:20:38Speaker 2: If I could find it, I don't know if I
- 1:20:40Speaker 2: dug it out when I did my little retro.
- 1:20:43Speaker 1: I managed to cram myself in my Hands Across America t-shirt.
- 1:20:48Speaker 2: Yeah, but there was an explosion at the end of
- 1:20:50Speaker 2: that and a few people survived.
- 1:20:51Speaker 6: 4.8 we're injured 4.8 exactly.
- 1:20:57Speaker 2: 4.8 but no that was what was awesome about it
- 1:21:00Speaker 2: i remember renting a ton of them probably at like
- 1:21:02Speaker 2: the grocery store video store because they didn't care they
- 1:21:04Speaker 2: let you rent whatever and um i watched a lot
- 1:21:07Speaker 2: of these but they were like already that early on
- 1:21:10Speaker 2: not only were they doing crossovers like freaking mcu but
- 1:21:14Speaker 2: they were like building up their little fan base because
- 1:21:16Speaker 2: at the end of the movie they would have their
- 1:21:18Speaker 2: full moon video zone and And they'd do this 22-minute
- 1:21:23Speaker 2: little movie magazine thing at the end of their movies
- 1:21:26Speaker 2: that did a behind-the-scenes on the movie you just watched.
- 1:21:30Speaker 2: And they'd do a feature on the upcoming next thing
- 1:21:33Speaker 2: that they're producing. And they'd have some girl come out
- 1:21:36Speaker 2: and tell you all about their t-shirt you could buy.
- 1:21:39Speaker 2: The whole thing was just marketing. for themselves on the
- 1:21:41Speaker 2: end of their movie. And it was like, it was like,
- 1:21:45Speaker 2: that was the most genius part about it because it
- 1:21:47Speaker 2: made you go, Oh, well now I need to watch
- 1:21:48Speaker 2: this other one because they told me about it at
- 1:21:50Speaker 2: the end of this movie. Like it was just such
- 1:21:52Speaker 2: a grand scale, like marketing scheme that like, I still
- 1:21:56Speaker 2: give him credit for that. That was maybe more impressive
- 1:21:58Speaker 2: than a lot of the movies as they went on,
- 1:22:00Speaker 2: certainly more than like evil bong. But, but in the
- 1:22:03Speaker 2: early days, I liked me some subspecies and, I like Trancers.
- 1:22:07Speaker 1: Subspecies.
- 1:22:08Speaker 2: I forgot about that.
- 1:22:08Speaker 1: That's another one I didn't see.
- 1:22:09Speaker 2: Yeah, these were the old school, like, full moon movies.
- 1:22:13Speaker 1: Yeah, I remember the VHS boxes.
- 1:22:15Speaker 2: I liked Subspecies at the time. Once again, I've not
- 1:22:17Speaker 2: rewatched it, but I really liked that one. And I
- 1:22:21Speaker 2: know he did several more before it, like, full blown
- 1:22:25Speaker 2: became this thing. And by the time these came out,
- 1:22:27Speaker 2: it was like they were cranking them out one after
- 1:22:29Speaker 2: the other. They were already planning the sequel, like this one.
- 1:22:32Speaker 2: They were already planning the sequel before they finished this movie.
- 1:22:35Speaker 2: So yeah, I know. It was just such a different
- 1:22:38Speaker 2: take on things. And they totally bank on that VHS
- 1:22:42Speaker 2: collectability thing and marketability built into it. Full Moon. That
- 1:22:48Speaker 2: was the flashback for me. Alright, so you liked the movie?
- 1:22:52Speaker 1: I did.
- 1:22:53Speaker 6: I enjoyed it fully.
- 1:22:54Speaker 2: I think it's a lot of fun. Again, because it's
- 1:22:59Speaker 2: so much fun, you look over some of the budget
- 1:23:02Speaker 2: restraints and And the special effects that look relatively cheesy.
- 1:23:06Speaker 1: But that was part of the fun.
- 1:23:07Speaker 2: In a way, that is what sells it. It's that
- 1:23:09Speaker 2: kind of movie that you're like, you're there for the
- 1:23:11Speaker 2: cheesy special effects. And the post-apocalyptic Albert Pugh world, which
- 1:23:15Speaker 2: I want to get back to on another future episode.
- 1:23:19Speaker 2: An entirely different movie.
- 1:23:22Speaker 6: All right.
- 1:23:23Speaker 2: I'd say we've rounded out this movie and our trip
- 1:23:27Speaker 2: to Lexington.
- 1:23:28Speaker 6: Did we fully talk about the convention at all? Or
- 1:23:30Speaker 6: did we like... They did have a vast... They had
- 1:23:33Speaker 6: a lot of booths.
- 1:23:34Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:23:34Speaker 6: I don't know if it's just because of the new setup,
- 1:23:36Speaker 6: but it did seem like it was more spaced out,
- 1:23:39Speaker 6: but there were just a lot of people. So I
- 1:23:41Speaker 6: don't know if they had planned on capping ticket sales
- 1:23:44Speaker 6: or if they were just, everybody come in, you know,
- 1:23:48Speaker 6: or what.
- 1:23:48Speaker 1: I'm not sure.
- 1:23:50Speaker 2: Again, I don't think they would have known. There's no
- 1:23:53Speaker 2: way to know what was going to happen this year.
- 1:23:55Speaker 2: Coming out of the mess that the world was, just
- 1:23:58Speaker 2: trying to put something together is a huge feat in
- 1:24:00Speaker 2: and of itself.
- 1:24:01Speaker 6: It wasn't Wizard World level of insanity. Insanity.
- 1:24:04Speaker 2: And space.
- 1:24:05Speaker 6: Yeah, Wizard World, you can't fucking spin.
- 1:24:08Speaker 2: Well, in a real city. We had Wizard World in
- 1:24:11Speaker 2: our town, and it wasn't near the big deal. But
- 1:24:13Speaker 2: you go to Chicago Wizard World, it's overwhelming.
- 1:24:17Speaker 1: It is a sea of people.
- 1:24:20Speaker 2: I can't imagine San Diego. That's why we haven't gone there.
- 1:24:23Speaker 2: Although Dragon was like that, too. Dragon Con was just...
- 1:24:27Speaker 2: I mean, it was so big, it took over that
- 1:24:28Speaker 2: whole part of the city. Like, it's just.
- 1:24:31Speaker 6: And Mark Singer showed up to that one.
- 1:24:32Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:24:33Speaker 2: Yeah, Mark Singer likes coming there.
- 1:24:35Speaker 1: Well, yeah, that's... I think he just knew that.
- 1:24:37Speaker 2: You were coming to this one. He was like, nope,
- 1:24:39Speaker 2: I'm out of there. I'm not going to hang out
- 1:24:41Speaker 2: with that misty person.
- 1:24:42Speaker 6: I mean, I don't blame him.
- 1:24:43Speaker 1: I mean.
- 1:24:45Speaker 6: I guess he's an older gentleman.
- 1:24:47Speaker 2: Especially with the world being what it is now. I
- 1:24:49Speaker 2: can see a lot of people canceling.
- 1:24:50Speaker 1: Yeah, you got the Delta variant. You got the Moo variant.
- 1:24:53Speaker 1: You got all the other variants that you don't know about.
- 1:24:56Speaker 6: Which normally I wouldn't make a big deal of, but
- 1:24:58Speaker 6: he is older. I don't know if he has any.
- 1:25:00Speaker 2: In a room with tons of weird people. You never
- 1:25:02Speaker 2: know what's going to happen.
- 1:25:02Speaker 6: I don't know if he has any pre-existing conditions. I'm
- 1:25:05Speaker 6: going to say I'm Mark Singer. I want to get
- 1:25:06Speaker 6: you one of these days.
- 1:25:07Speaker 2: That sounds like a threat, but she means it lovingly.
- 1:25:10Speaker 6: No, I'm just saying I've got a Beastmaster poster that
- 1:25:11Speaker 6: I want to have signed. I mean... Brian already got
- 1:25:14Speaker 6: my big one done. But I have like a smaller one.
- 1:25:18Speaker 6: And I still want to get a selfie, god damn it.
- 1:25:20Speaker 1: Yep.
- 1:25:21Speaker 6: And I'm working out. So I won't have like eight
- 1:25:24Speaker 6: chins in the photo. So, you know, that's my goal.
- 1:25:27Speaker 2: You're going to be as ripped as Beastmaster was? Fuck yeah.
- 1:25:29Speaker 2: In Beastmaster 2, Portal of Time?
- 1:25:31Speaker 6: That's not attainable by humans.
- 1:25:34Speaker 2: Because, I mean, he's in decent shape in that first one.
- 1:25:37Speaker 2: But he is cut in that second movie.
- 1:25:39Speaker 6: He is ripped like Jesus.
- 1:25:40Speaker 4: He is ripped.
- 1:25:41Speaker 5: So.
- 1:25:42Speaker 6: That's your goal. He's extra oiled up.
- 1:25:44Speaker 2: You've got to be oily, hot, and ripped like Beastmaster 2.
- 1:25:48Speaker 1: You've got to make sure you get Sax Man's oil.
- 1:25:50Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 1:25:51Speaker 6: Sergio Sax Oil or whatever.
- 1:25:53Speaker 2: I'll sell you some.
- 1:25:55Speaker 6: He will.
- 1:25:55Speaker 2: All right. Future plans, future goals. That's what we've got now.
- 1:26:02Speaker 2: With that, we do want to say thank you to
- 1:26:04Speaker 2: Lexington Comic and Toy Convention for letting us come hang
- 1:26:07Speaker 2: out there and see people and make threats to come
- 1:26:10Speaker 2: see Mark Singer in the future.
- 1:26:12Speaker 6: It's not a threat. It's a promise.
- 1:26:14Speaker 2: It's a promise.
- 1:26:16Speaker 1: It's a prediction.
- 1:26:16Speaker 6: I'm going to get a promise ring and I'm going
- 1:26:19Speaker 6: to wear it just as a promise to myself that
- 1:26:21Speaker 6: someday I will meet her.
- 1:26:22Speaker 2: You need to have like a little black tiger hanging
- 1:26:24Speaker 2: off of it.
- 1:26:24Speaker 6: Why don't you just go with the eye? Like the
- 1:26:26Speaker 6: little eye ring. Oh, there you go.
- 1:26:27Speaker 2: Yeah, there you go. You know, look around and see
- 1:26:29Speaker 2: what you're up to.
- 1:26:30Speaker 6: It's Mark Singer's eye.
- 1:26:32Speaker 2: Don't poke it out.
- 1:26:34Speaker 6: Don't poke a fiery stick into it.
- 1:26:36Speaker 5: Don't do that. Don't do that.
- 1:26:38Speaker 2: Don't be a riptorn. Don't be crazy.
- 1:26:41Speaker 6: He was a special kind of crazy.
- 1:26:42Speaker 2: He's crazy.
- 1:26:43Speaker 6: Can't get his autograph either.
- 1:26:44Speaker 2: Real world or not. Movies or real world.
- 1:26:47Speaker 5: He was crazy.
- 1:26:49Speaker 6: It's a fucking epic name, though. I don't even give
- 1:26:51Speaker 6: a shit. Rip Torn? I mean, that can't be a
- 1:26:54Speaker 6: real name, right?
- 1:26:56Speaker 2: I don't know. I wouldn't question anything with that man.
- 1:26:59Speaker 2: He might go after you. Even now, he still might
- 1:27:02Speaker 2: come after you.
- 1:27:02Speaker 6: Now I'm curious as to what his real name could
- 1:27:04Speaker 6: possibly be. If it's like Jim, I'm going to be mad. Oh, dude.
- 1:27:09Speaker 6: Come on.
- 1:27:09Speaker 4: What?
- 1:27:10Speaker 6: Elmore, Ruel, Rip, Torn. So Torn was his last name.
- 1:27:14Speaker 2: Now you know why he went with Rip.
- 1:27:18Speaker 1: Elmore.
- 1:27:19Speaker 6: Elmore, Ruel. How do you say it?
- 1:27:23Speaker 3: Ruel?
- 1:27:23Speaker 6: Raul.
- 1:27:24Speaker 2: Raul.
- 1:27:26Speaker 6: It's not Raul.
- 1:27:27Speaker 1: You don't think it's Raul?
- 1:27:29Speaker 2: Raul. Raul.
- 1:27:32Speaker 6: R-U-A-L.
- 1:27:33Speaker 1: Yeah, Raul. In Raul Julia, isn't his name spelled that way?
- 1:27:36Speaker 6: I don't think so.
- 1:27:37Speaker 2: All that having been said, go to LexingtonComicCon.com and plan
- 1:27:42Speaker 2: your trip here next time.
- 1:27:44Speaker 6: Bring your own snacks because the food court was kind
- 1:27:46Speaker 6: of crazy.
- 1:27:47Speaker 2: Again, that might have just been because of the building scenario.
- 1:27:51Speaker 1: Yeah, I think they were still under construction.
- 1:27:52Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it might be different.
- 1:27:54Speaker 6: I'm just saying, be prepared. Bring your own snacks. Just
