Transcript
- 0:08Speaker 1: My life. Hey everyone, Emily a body here. Listen into
- 0:24Speaker 1: five Minute Friday from Hurdle. Oh my goodness. Yeah, I'm
- 0:30Speaker 1: a ball of all of the things right now. I'm nervous,
- 0:33Speaker 1: I'm excited, I feel kind of I mean not kind of.
- 0:39Speaker 1: I'm a little bit speechless, which isn't helpful when you're
- 0:41Speaker 1: a podcaster. I'm sitting in my hotel room. I'm in Tokyo,
- 0:45Speaker 1: and I'm recording this in the future, which is wild
- 0:49Speaker 1: because by the time you listen to this, I will
- 0:51Speaker 1: only be about twenty four hours out from running my
- 0:56Speaker 1: thirteenth marathon, the Tokyo Marathon, my sixth World Marathon major,
- 1:02Speaker 1: and that.
- 1:03Speaker 2: Is absolutely bananas.
- 1:06Speaker 1: For five Minute Friday Today, it's the state of the state,
- 1:09Speaker 1: It's how's my mental state, And candidly, I feel both
- 1:14Speaker 1: ready and also oddly unprepared for this, And the unprepared
- 1:20Speaker 1: comes from the emotional side of things. I feel as
- 1:23Speaker 1: though I am not even understanding how much this is
- 1:27Speaker 1: going to hit me on the day of the marathon,
- 1:30Speaker 1: that running my thirteenth marathon is going to feel even
- 1:33Speaker 1: crazier than running my first marathon back in Hartford almost
- 1:38Speaker 1: over ten years ago.
- 1:40Speaker 2: At this point and it's a lot, but it's a
- 1:45Speaker 2: good a lot.
- 1:46Speaker 1: I have had a lot of time on my own
- 1:48Speaker 1: this week as I've been traveling from Singapore, which was
- 1:51Speaker 1: absolutely stunning. I cannot recommend it enough to Tokyo. And
- 1:57Speaker 1: in that time, I've just been thinking so much about
- 2:00Speaker 1: two topics. Really, one the fact that this wasn't a
- 2:04Speaker 1: goal for me when I started. When I started running,
- 2:06Speaker 1: I was using running as a weight loss tool, and
- 2:09Speaker 1: only as a weight loss tool. I didn't love it
- 2:12Speaker 1: at first at all. In fact, I did everything I
- 2:15Speaker 1: could to just get through the run a half mile
- 2:18Speaker 1: every day for an entire summer back in two thousand
- 2:20Speaker 1: and eight, and now I truly cannot imagine my life
- 2:26Speaker 1: without it. I spent time writing on all of the
- 2:28Speaker 1: different things that running has helped me get through and
- 2:31Speaker 1: overcome the hurdles that I have persevered through because I've
- 2:36Speaker 1: had this tool at my disposal at least a part
- 2:40Speaker 1: of the toolbox anyway, that has helped me navigate all
- 2:43Speaker 1: these hard times. And yeah, so many feelings. And so
- 2:47Speaker 1: I never had this goal. I never aspired to run
- 2:50Speaker 1: all the six World marathon majors, but over time it's
- 2:53Speaker 1: what unfolded for me, and I could not be more grateful.
- 2:56Speaker 1: And then the second thing I've been thinking about is
- 2:58Speaker 1: just how I want to feel in my life if
- 3:00Speaker 1: I put up a post about this on social media.
- 3:03Speaker 1: But this whole marathon training cycle, I've been plagued with
- 3:06Speaker 1: different health issues and injury, and I finally feel mostly
- 3:10Speaker 1: good heading into this thing. And what I've learned through
- 3:14Speaker 1: my experience is that all I want for the rest
- 3:17Speaker 1: of my life is to be able to move my body.
- 3:19Speaker 1: However I want obviously within uh with grace as I
- 3:24Speaker 1: get older, but I have a goal to be able
- 3:27Speaker 1: to move long term, and that means thinking long term
- 3:31Speaker 1: when I'm dealing with different issues, when I'm dealing with injury,
- 3:34Speaker 1: when I'm coping with whatever it is that I'm going through,
- 3:37Speaker 1: when I'm prioritizing recovery right and I know that this
- 3:42Speaker 1: has given me so much, and how dare I use
- 3:44Speaker 1: it as something that could also take away from me
- 3:47Speaker 1: in the long run. And so as I sit here
- 3:51Speaker 1: on a cusp of such a major accomplishment, it is
- 3:54Speaker 1: not something that I take lightly, and it is something
- 3:57Speaker 1: that I can say has been such a but is
- 4:00Speaker 1: also just the beginning for so much more to come.
- 4:04Speaker 2: And yeah, oh my god, I'm so amped. I'm so amped.
- 4:08Speaker 1: And so my prompt you this week what is one
- 4:12Speaker 1: goal that you want to accomplish in the rest of
- 4:15Speaker 1: twenty twenty four? Again that prompt for you, what is
- 4:18Speaker 1: one goal that you want to accomplish in the rest
- 4:22Speaker 1: of twenty twenty four? And now a listener question. Hi,
- 4:26Speaker 1: am I love following all of your travels. I'm wondering
- 4:30Speaker 1: if you can share what's one thing that you always
- 4:34Speaker 1: bring with you anytime you take a trip.
- 4:36Speaker 2: I have a big trip coming up and I would
- 4:38Speaker 2: love to hear some of your tips.
- 4:39Speaker 1: Thanks.
- 4:41Speaker 2: Oh goodness.
- 4:41Speaker 1: I know I talk about AG one and Element all
- 4:44Speaker 1: the time, so I don't want to make this an
- 4:46Speaker 1: ad read, but truly I can't imagine traveling without them.
- 4:50Speaker 1: I drink them both every single morning, especially when gearing
- 4:54Speaker 1: up for a marathon, but every single morning, regardless the
- 4:58Speaker 1: listener deals for that the sponsor, I'm going to throw
- 5:00Speaker 1: them in the show notes, but head on over to
- 5:02Speaker 1: drinkag one dot com slash hurdle to get five free
- 5:06Speaker 1: travel packs and a year supply of Vitamin D absolutely
- 5:09Speaker 1: free with your purchase. And then Element is giving you
- 5:11Speaker 1: a sample pack with your purchase. That's drink Element dot com,
- 5:15Speaker 1: drink lmnt dot com slash hurdle. But the other thing
- 5:19Speaker 1: I cannot imagine traveling without is drum roll. I just
- 5:24Speaker 1: did a little drum roll on my desk right here.
- 5:26Speaker 2: The Airfly Duo.
- 5:27Speaker 1: So basically, it's this little thing that plugs into the
- 5:31Speaker 1: headphone jack on the plane and it allows your headphones
- 5:35Speaker 1: to pair Bluetooth to the TV in front of you
- 5:39Speaker 1: so that you can use your own headphones, which is
- 5:42Speaker 1: such a game changer, especially with noise cancelation. I feel
- 5:46Speaker 1: as though in my older age I am like even
- 5:50Speaker 1: more sensitive to how loud the ambient noise.
- 5:52Speaker 2: Is on the plane.
- 5:53Speaker 1: And so when I can put on my AirPods Promax
- 5:56Speaker 1: and put that Airfly Pro Duo Fly Duo, I'll link
- 6:01Speaker 1: the right one, I promise in the show notes and
- 6:04Speaker 1: listen to the TV that way it is. It's amazing
- 6:08Speaker 1: for watching movies. I'm in my own zone and the
- 6:11Speaker 1: noise on the plane doesn't bother me. So yes, that
- 6:14Speaker 1: is what I would recommend to you this week. The
- 6:16Speaker 1: other thing I'm obsessed with my away luggage, I especially
- 6:20Speaker 1: the bigger sized carry on. It fits on almost every
- 6:24Speaker 1: single plane I've ever been on. I've only had to
- 6:26Speaker 1: gate check it once and it is within the TSA
- 6:30Speaker 1: limits of sizing. So can't recommend both the Airfly Duo
- 6:35Speaker 1: and the t the TSA the away bigger carry on size.
- 6:41Speaker 1: I'll link both of those in the show notes. I
- 6:44Speaker 1: love your listener question, so keep them coming. I'm running
- 6:47Speaker 1: to the end of my pile and i could use
- 6:49Speaker 1: some more. You can either send them by clicking that link,
- 6:52Speaker 1: leave me a message in the show notes, or feel
- 6:54Speaker 1: free to send us a message voice notote over at
