SPEAKER_02: Hi, and welcome to today's Assassin's Sips Spotlight episode.
0:14
SPEAKER_02: Today we are going to be talking to Dustin from the We Rewatch Recap.
0:20
SPEAKER_02: Oh my god, I'm like already slurring my words, and all I've had is a sip.
0:24
SPEAKER_02: I'm one of not enough.
0:26
SPEAKER_02: I'm one of your hosts.
0:27
SPEAKER_02: I'm Lisa.
0:28
SPEAKER_02: And I'm Agnes.
0:29
SPEAKER_02: And thank you, Dustin, for being with us.
0:31
SPEAKER_02: Why don't you give yourself an introduction, please?
0:34
SPEAKER_00: Hi.
0:34
SPEAKER_00: First of all, thank you for having me on.
0:36
SPEAKER_00: I really appreciate it.
0:38
SPEAKER_00: Um, yeah, I'm Dustin from the Rewatch Recap, uh, which is a podcast where we watch shows we watched years ago and we go back to it and see if they still hold up and we criticize them and nitpick them and talk about whatever information that happens to be happening in the show or about the actors or whatever.
0:55
SPEAKER_00: Just uh, and we literally recap every moment, like everything that happens, we go over what happens.
1:00
SPEAKER_00: Kind of like commentary, but you're not watching the show, you're hearing us talk about the show.
1:04
SPEAKER_00: So, um, and uh yeah, I've been doing podcasting for a few years now, and uh I love guesting on pods like this one.
1:13
SPEAKER_00: So I again appreciate you having me on.
1:15
SPEAKER_02: No, we're happy to have you.
1:16
SPEAKER_02: What are you sipping on today?
1:18
SPEAKER_01: Water, good old-fashioned aqua.
1:23
SPEAKER_02: That is one of my drinks.
1:26
SPEAKER_02: Let's let's be honest.
1:27
SPEAKER_02: And my other drink is uh surfside peach tea with vodka.
1:32
SPEAKER_02: It tastes like an alcoholic snapple.
1:36
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
1:36
SPEAKER_02: What about you, Agnes?
1:38
SPEAKER_06: I am just drinking a plain old iced coffee.
1:40
SPEAKER_06: I'm keeping it simple today, and it might be a little Kahlua in it.
1:44
SPEAKER_06: Um, you know, can't have coffee without Kahlua, right?
1:47
SPEAKER_06: They go hands.
1:48
SPEAKER_01: It's too simple, right?
1:49
SPEAKER_06: Well, you know, for us, that's simple.
1:52
SPEAKER_06: Uh we're keeping it keeping it light today.
1:56
SPEAKER_00: That's good.
1:57
SPEAKER_00: I normally have like some wine or something.
1:59
SPEAKER_00: I have wine.
2:00
SPEAKER_00: I just was like, I've drank too much wine this week.
2:02
SPEAKER_00: I need to chill out.
2:03
SPEAKER_00: Like it's been a wine week, you know.
2:07
SPEAKER_02: That's okay.
2:08
SPEAKER_02: You know what?
2:08
SPEAKER_02: It's like it's pre-wine, you know.
2:11
SPEAKER_02: Like if you're Catholic.
2:13
SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah.
2:18
SPEAKER_00: It's one and the same.
2:19
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
2:21
SPEAKER_02: You know.
2:21
SPEAKER_02: Um, I have, I mean, we don't usually do like interview because we suck at that, but I do have a question for you.
2:28
SPEAKER_00: Okay.
2:29
SPEAKER_02: How did you get into podcasting?
2:32
SPEAKER_00: Um, well, I I don't, you know, it's funny.
2:34
SPEAKER_00: I never listened to podcasts before I even started podcasting.
2:38
SPEAKER_00: I just didn't.
2:38
SPEAKER_00: It wasn't my type of thing.
2:40
SPEAKER_00: I would listen to like talk radio, which is almost the same kind of, you know, it's it's similar.
2:46
SPEAKER_00: Um, but not really a lot of that either.
2:48
SPEAKER_00: Uh one of my friends was talking about it, and I had seen somewhere there was a microphone, which is one of those this right here, this microphone right here.
2:58
SPEAKER_00: This blue Yeti microphone.
3:00
SPEAKER_00: And I don't know why, but I was like, I want that.
3:03
SPEAKER_00: So my mother got it for me for Christmas one year.
3:05
SPEAKER_00: And that same year, my friend was like, Well, let's make a podcast.
3:08
SPEAKER_00: I'm like, okay.
3:09
SPEAKER_00: I still had no idea what a podcast was.
3:12
SPEAKER_00: And I didn't realize that I thought podcast was audio only, which is also not true now.
3:18
SPEAKER_00: I think it originally was really just audio only, and then people started kind of correlating it into video as well.
3:23
SPEAKER_00: But uh, we started doing like a um uh a flashback show, uh, and we were not really flashback, but um back to old school middle grade and YA novels that we read as kids, right?
3:38
SPEAKER_00: Stuff from the 80s and 90s, you know, or stuff that wasn't middle grade, we would read.
3:43
SPEAKER_00: Like we read like Flowers in the Attic, you know, and um okay, you know, stuff like Fear Street Books and Goosebumps and some Sweet Valley High and some Babysitter's Club.
3:53
SPEAKER_00: And I some of those I'd never read before.
3:55
SPEAKER_00: I'd never read Sweet Valley High or Babysitter's Club.
3:57
SPEAKER_00: It just you know wasn't my forte, but you know, and I'd never read Flowers in the Attic, and I'd read it, I was like, Why didn't I read this as a kid?
4:04
SPEAKER_00: Like, I'm glad I didn't because I would have been really screwed up.
4:06
SPEAKER_06: Really, really screwed up.
4:07
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I've never I've never read that book was neither have I saw the movies as an adult, and I was like, what the actual read the book, it is even worse.
4:17
SPEAKER_06: Okay, so that can handle it.
4:18
SPEAKER_06: I never see the movie either.
4:19
SPEAKER_00: So like, but I couldn't, it was so thick, it's it's a thick book, it's a pretty thick book.
4:23
SPEAKER_00: And the fact that this woman wrote it in like a couple of weeks, and it's become this big phenomenon, and you know, um it's just so crazy.
4:32
SPEAKER_00: Like, oh, I'm like, I couldn't put it down.
4:34
SPEAKER_00: I was like, oh my god, what is going on with this family?
4:37
SPEAKER_00: Like, it was crazy.
4:39
SPEAKER_00: Now the movies kind of get there, the lifetime movies that they I hadn't watched all of them, but I watched the first one, and it's closer to it than the 80s movie was, right?
4:50
SPEAKER_00: But there's still stuff that they leave out, and you're like, wow, wow, you know, oh nuts.
4:57
SPEAKER_06: Um lot to say like Gen X children.
5:00
SPEAKER_06: We really are fucked in the head.
5:02
SPEAKER_06: Like the things that we would like, hey here, look, read this.
5:06
SPEAKER_06: You this is age appropriate.
5:07
SPEAKER_06: You're like, oh, okay.
5:09
SPEAKER_00: It was in our libraries, it was in our school library, and why?
5:13
SPEAKER_00: I mean, I mean, I understand like some you know, some things are not appropriate for young.
5:18
SPEAKER_00: This was like I'm talking grade school library, not even like high school, like it was grade school library, and kids were reading this stuff, and there was like and the librarian was lead reading a story about people getting abused, like kids getting abused.
5:30
SPEAKER_00: I'm like, why are you reading this to us?
5:32
SPEAKER_00: We were like in third, fourth grade.
5:35
SPEAKER_02: And the difference, the difference is now that we could read whatever we want.
5:39
SPEAKER_02: If our parents even noticed, it was like whatever, the teachers, nobody cared.
5:44
SPEAKER_02: When my my oldest daughter, who is 17, uh, when she was in fifth grade, she was reading To Kill a Mocking Bird.
5:54
SPEAKER_02: And, you know, she found the book in the house and she was like, Can I read it?
5:57
SPEAKER_02: And I'm just like, all right, well, we'll, you know, we'll talk about it as you read it.
6:01
SPEAKER_02: Like, I'm I'm kind of one of those parents, right?
6:03
SPEAKER_02: I got a phone call from the teacher.
6:05
SPEAKER_02: Do you know that your child is reading this book?
6:07
SPEAKER_02: And I'm like, Yes, I am aware.
6:08
SPEAKER_02: And she was like, Oh, okay, just you know, a little worried about the subject content.
6:13
SPEAKER_02: And I'm like, no, no, like I appreciate the call, but I'm aware.
6:17
SPEAKER_01: I'm like, how old was she again?
6:19
SPEAKER_02: She was like 10.
6:20
SPEAKER_02: Okay, that's not too bad though.
6:22
SPEAKER_02: Right.
6:23
SPEAKER_02: I mean, she she she was reading Harry Potter in kindergarten.
6:26
SPEAKER_02: Like the kid is advanced, yeah.
6:28
SPEAKER_02: It's very advanced, right?
6:29
SPEAKER_02: Well, you know, and she wants to be.
6:31
SPEAKER_02: But I'm I'm like, but you know, I'm like, that never would have happened.
6:35
SPEAKER_02: Our teachers never would have cared.
6:37
SPEAKER_02: They would have been like, oh, good, they're reading.
6:39
SPEAKER_00: Like, but you know what?
6:40
SPEAKER_00: I mean, that's not a bad thing, I think.
6:41
SPEAKER_00: I think, you know, hey, by the way, I just want to make you aware in case you didn't know.
6:44
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I don't like that they kind of tell on you.
6:47
SPEAKER_02: Especially I wasn't right, I wasn't upset.
6:50
SPEAKER_02: Like it was just like to me, it was highlighting the difference between generations because we came from a generation where we just were given and and had access, and everyone was kind of like, eh, whatever, it'll be fine.
7:04
SPEAKER_06: I may not have been reading Jackie Collins, you know what I mean?
7:08
SPEAKER_02: So right, and the teacher never would have called your mom.
7:11
SPEAKER_06: No, because my mom's broke, but same, but uh right.
7:15
SPEAKER_02: So I wasn't upset and I was like, no, I appreciate the call, you know, but I I'm aware, thank you very much.
7:20
SPEAKER_00: Like it's like they equate it to like bringing a playboy or a playgirl to school.
7:23
SPEAKER_00: Like, you know, it's not the same, guys.
7:25
SPEAKER_00: It's not, it's you know, it's all in your head.
7:27
SPEAKER_00: You're read your visualizing stuff in your head, but that's it.
7:30
SPEAKER_00: It's not like you know, watching horror movies, you know.
7:32
SPEAKER_06: It's also contextual.
7:34
SPEAKER_06: Like, what is what else is the book telling you?
7:36
SPEAKER_06: What else is in the plot of the storyline as opposed to oh look, who's their sex?
7:42
SPEAKER_06: Um big picture.
7:44
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I agree.
7:45
SPEAKER_00: I and the thing is like I think uh they should definitely um I I I I kind of commend the teacher, but at the same time, it's kind of scary because what if the kid was not allowed and they read something and then they got like and I was like abusive really something big discipline at home because you don't know what type of discipline they might get at home, and you might and you you could have been the cause of that by telling them, you know.
8:08
SPEAKER_00: And um, so I kind of feel like well, maybe they should have like what is your child or allowed to consume?
8:15
SPEAKER_02: Or maybe just ask the kid.
8:18
SPEAKER_00: Well, that's it.
8:19
SPEAKER_02: I mean, I know no, I know I know kids lie, yeah, but ask the kid in such a way to say, um, you know, do your parents know that you're reading this book?
8:28
SPEAKER_02: And if the kid says, yeah, obviously, and then say, Okay, so then would you mind if I had a conversation with your parents about it?
8:35
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's where you're gonna get your answer.
8:37
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
8:38
SPEAKER_02: That's when you're gonna a trained person who's worked with kids will will see the body language immediately where they start being like, and like or it's gonna be like, Oh, wait, why like why do you have and then that's when you're like, okay, maybe I hold back, or because the kid Like I worked with kids, I wasn't a teacher, but I worked with kids for for years, and so you see their their reactions to different things, and I learned for myself that when you want an answer, it's always in the way you ask the question.
9:11
SPEAKER_02: You have to frame the question to get the answer.
9:13
SPEAKER_02: So it's not, hey, did you?
9:15
SPEAKER_02: It's do you know why this or how how does this and you give them a thing?
9:21
SPEAKER_00: You need to lead them to where you need to go, not not just like open-ended type of thing.
9:25
SPEAKER_02: And then you have to not only listen to their words, but you have to gauge their reaction and see what they need.
9:32
SPEAKER_02: And and so I think that you're right, that could have gone very, very poorly if I one didn't know or if I didn't agree.
9:42
SPEAKER_00: But I don't know, like it's har it's so hard to know it's hard because you you you also have to you can't assume that the teacher is a good teacher and they've worked for kids with kids for long, or that they even tried to improve in their, you know, the way they communicate with kids and whatnot.
9:59
SPEAKER_00: Because not everybody should be a teacher, and a lot of them are who shouldn't be, you know.
10:02
SPEAKER_02: And in that case, I will say yes, because my goddaughter had her the year before, and I used to also pick her up from school.
10:09
SPEAKER_02: So I I knew the teacher, not right, like I didn't speak to her as in parent-teacher conferences, but the way it works in New York City, at least you know, in most of the schools, the the kids, it's not like the bell rings and the kids all run outside.
10:25
SPEAKER_02: Um, so in that school, the kids come outside with their teachers and the parents all have to wait in the schoolyard behind the line.
10:33
SPEAKER_02: And when the teacher sees you, it's like, okay, now you are dismissed.
10:38
SPEAKER_02: So it it she was used to seeing me every day and then the year before, and then my daughter had her, so she kind of already had like, you know, hi, how are you kind of relationship?
10:50
SPEAKER_00: Ever poor, yeah.
10:51
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so she probably figured, like, oh, she's she's fine, you know, she's she's fine.
10:56
SPEAKER_02: And and probably maybe she asked the other teachers in the school, like who have had my kids and said, you know, what do you know about her?
11:03
SPEAKER_02: I I don't know, but I'm just trying to think of resources that I could have used if I was in the same situation.
11:08
SPEAKER_02: Like, hey, like you've got two kids in this school, what do you know about so and so?
11:14
SPEAKER_02: And they're like, Oh yeah, she's like the year before one of my kids scratched a kid and made them bleed.
11:22
SPEAKER_02: And I was like, Well, that's that's fun.
11:24
SPEAKER_02: And when the teacher told me the way, the exact way that she said what happened, and she's like, Yeah, and then when I asked the daughter why, she was like, you know, and then when I told her that was wrong, she was like, Okay, and I'm like, I could see it, like I know my kid.
11:45
SPEAKER_00: You know how she said it.
11:46
SPEAKER_02: You're like, uh As soon as the teacher said that, I was like, Well, she's not lying.
11:51
SPEAKER_02: I mean, you know, and so I'm like, all right, obviously, the kid didn't my kid didn't come in the next day with bruises all over her.
11:57
SPEAKER_02: Like, you know, she I was like, I'm so sorry.
11:59
SPEAKER_02: Like, please tell the other parents, like I will replace the shirt, I will like clean the shirt.
12:04
SPEAKER_02: I'll whatever.
12:05
SPEAKER_02: You know, I'm I'm so sorry.
12:06
SPEAKER_02: If they have medical bills, I'll pay them.
12:08
SPEAKER_02: Like, I don't know what to do, you know.
12:10
SPEAKER_00: But your kids limping at them.
12:15
SPEAKER_02: That's that's two of them.
12:16
SPEAKER_02: I'll never do it again.
12:18
SPEAKER_02: Well, that's two of them now who have caused harm to another kid.
12:20
SPEAKER_02: Like, my god, what's wrong with you, freak?
12:22
SPEAKER_02: You got one more to go.
12:24
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, make a trifecta.
12:27
SPEAKER_02: At least you made it out of elementary school without causing physical harm.
12:31
SPEAKER_02: One was like in pre-K and the other one was in third grade.
12:34
SPEAKER_00: So now you guys have like because a lot of them now are going from they're doing elementary and then intermediate and then middle and then high school.
12:43
SPEAKER_00: And like, why do we have so many divisions of schools nowadays?
12:46
SPEAKER_00: Like I when I was going, it was literally grade school, which was kindergarten through sixth grade, sixth grade, junior high, seventh and eighth grade, and then high school ninth through tenth or through twelfth.
12:56
SPEAKER_03: Yep.
12:57
SPEAKER_00: So I don't why do they divide it up so much now?
13:00
SPEAKER_00: Is it because we have so many kids or what?
13:02
SPEAKER_02: Like, I don't know.
13:03
SPEAKER_02: Our our junior high school actually went from seventh through ninth.
13:10
SPEAKER_02: And but I don't know if this is just a New York City thing or if it happens in other places, but you you don't just go to the next school, you apply to different schools.
13:23
SPEAKER_02: So when we're in junior high school and we're applying to whatever high school we wanted, it's a lottery system.
13:29
SPEAKER_02: It well, it's like half a lottery, half based on grades, depending on the school.
13:34
SPEAKER_02: And it's like I mean, you get um it looks like a phone book.
13:39
SPEAKER_02: This is thick, yeah.
13:40
SPEAKER_06: It's more daunting than college admissions.
13:43
SPEAKER_02: I swear to God, it was harder to pick the high school book for high schools in in the city, and so we were in Brooklyn, but it has pretty much all of them because you could apply anywhere, and so it was like okay, but if you want to apply to this school, they will only look at your application if you're listed them um first choice, or only if you if they're if this one is in your top three choice, and you have to have these grades, and yeah, and so the your it really is.
14:12
SPEAKER_02: This is like a charter school type of situation, no, just the way the high schools ran, like public schools, New York City public schools.
14:19
SPEAKER_00: Are you guys in New York?
14:21
SPEAKER_02: Uh I'm in Jersey now, and she's in Wisconsin.
14:24
SPEAKER_02: But yeah, but we were in New York, and so the only time is like if you don't get into one of your choice schools, then you go to your zone school.
14:35
SPEAKER_02: So our junior high school went up to ninth grade, so it was kind of cool because in eighth grade, if you didn't get into the school that you wanted, like I didn't, I was like, screw it, I'm staying here another year and I'll try again.
14:49
SPEAKER_02: So I I I only went to high school from 10th through 12th because I did my freshman year in junior high school.
15:23
SPEAKER_00: Okay.
15:23
SPEAKER_00: I mean I know I know they divide it up sometimes in different ways, you know.
15:26
SPEAKER_02: Well, yeah, we just we just had a choice, but like high school high school is still nine through twelve.
15:33
SPEAKER_02: It's just that because I made the choice to stay another year, then I skipped I skipped ninth grade in my high school.
15:41
SPEAKER_02: And I took ninth grade in my junior.
15:43
SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
15:44
SPEAKER_02: But because like where I live now, it's like okay, this is where you live, this is your elementary school, and then this is your junior school, your junior high school, your middle school, whatever.
15:53
SPEAKER_02: And then this is your high school, and that's it.
15:56
SPEAKER_02: They they just go.
15:57
SPEAKER_02: And I'm like, this is so different.
15:59
SPEAKER_02: And I mean, I I lived in Brooklyn.
16:02
SPEAKER_02: I could have gone to high school in the Bronx if I wanted to, like if I got accepted, it's craziness when you think about it.
16:08
SPEAKER_00: That is weird because like my high school, like my whole I my uh elementary school was like two blocks away uh behind my house.
16:16
SPEAKER_00: Um I had to walk, I'm in the I was in the suburbs, and so I had to walk to school, and you know, that I think somebody tried to kidnap me once, but he's like, Oh just once once.
16:26
SPEAKER_00: Well, he pulled over and he's like, Hey, and he's like leaning over, like get in the car, and I'm like, ah, and I ran the opposite way, and that was it.
16:32
SPEAKER_00: But um like that actually happens.
16:34
SPEAKER_06: We always got the like the like the the classes, strangers, the training, the stranger.
16:39
SPEAKER_02: Well, but in fairness, somebody did get kidnapped.
16:43
SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah, yeah, when we were in seventh grade.
16:46
SPEAKER_06: Well, yeah, I was I just I feel like I there's a I was way more afraid of of Quicksand than I should have been.
16:55
SPEAKER_02: I was way more I still have yet to ever see Quicksand in my life.
17:01
SPEAKER_06: And like to say no to drugs, like I don't I didn't see anyone who's offering free drugs that didn't once, once on the way home, somebody shared with me.
17:09
SPEAKER_00: It's just like Halloween.
17:11
SPEAKER_00: Like, who's passing out all these free drugs for kids on Halloween?
17:13
SPEAKER_00: No one's gonna spend that money.
17:16
SPEAKER_06: Not nothing.
17:17
SPEAKER_00: And why are you giving it to kids?
17:18
SPEAKER_00: Because they can't buy jobs to buy these drugs.
17:22
SPEAKER_06: Their allowance money is not gonna cover them coming back to me.
17:24
SPEAKER_06: Right, no, so there's just not a lot of things that just really didn't and who's really gonna take the time.
17:30
SPEAKER_00: Look me put a razor blade in this little fun-sized chocolate, reseal the package, and then just like who's gonna take that time?
17:38
SPEAKER_06: I think it was really employed for parents to give like that that candy tax.
17:42
SPEAKER_06: I think that's what it was a plan for some parents to get that candy tax.
17:48
SPEAKER_06: They're like, I'm protecting you.
17:51
SPEAKER_06: Um, I have to open up all your stuff.
17:53
SPEAKER_00: Like, you're gonna open all this stuff's gonna go bad because you're opening it all, like this jawbreaker.
17:57
SPEAKER_00: No one put anything in the jawbreaker.
17:59
SPEAKER_06: The sealed bag, right?
18:01
SPEAKER_06: No one's putting anything in that one.
18:02
SPEAKER_06: I know.
18:03
SPEAKER_00: My goodness, I don't understand it.
18:05
SPEAKER_00: But yeah, so like my my grade school, my elementary school was like a couple blocks away from me, and then my high school was on the same street as mine.
18:12
SPEAKER_00: I could see it from my driveway.
18:13
SPEAKER_00: And so, I mean, I had the and the junior high was literally in the same lot, the same space as the high school.
18:19
SPEAKER_00: It's just a building behind it, so they shared like the same cafeteria and gym and stuff.
18:23
SPEAKER_00: Um, so I didn't have to go very far.
18:26
SPEAKER_00: And I was kind of a latchkey kid because my parents were rarely home when I got home, you know, and I was always home by myself.
18:32
SPEAKER_00: We left our door unlocked.
18:33
SPEAKER_02: Oh, wow.
18:34
SPEAKER_00: All the time.
18:35
SPEAKER_00: It was just unlocked, you just go on in.
18:37
SPEAKER_00: And we got robbed.
18:39
SPEAKER_00: My senior year of high school, we got robbed.
18:42
SPEAKER_00: Um, and the door was unlocked, and I felt really bad about it.
18:46
SPEAKER_00: And I was like, um, uh, because we always left it unlocked, all of us did.
18:50
SPEAKER_00: And my brother, he was eight years older than me, he was out of the house by this point.
18:54
SPEAKER_00: And I got home and and they're like the door, okay.
18:59
SPEAKER_00: I didn't notice anything.
19:00
SPEAKER_00: Doors closed, unlocked, but it was closed.
19:03
SPEAKER_00: And I go in and I was like, Did I knock over that potted plant before I left?
19:06
SPEAKER_00: And I didn't realize it.
19:07
SPEAKER_00: Like, huh?
19:09
SPEAKER_00: And then I look up and I was like, Where's the VCR?
19:11
SPEAKER_00: And then I go into another room, like, where's that VCR?
19:14
SPEAKER_00: And I went, Oh my god, I'm just walking through the house.
19:17
SPEAKER_00: They could still be in the house, and I don't, you know.
19:19
SPEAKER_00: So I grabbed the cordless phone and I'm like, I think somebody robbed my house.
19:22
SPEAKER_00: And so the, you know, the cops were coming, they're like, I have to make it look like the door was locked.
19:27
SPEAKER_00: Locked the door, and I start like kicking on it to make it look like I didn't make any kind of like impression on that door.
19:34
SPEAKER_00: I was so weak, but like I was so paranoid that I was gonna get in trouble because the door was unlocked, and I went, Oh my gosh, oh my god, I had to I had to stage the scene to make it look like I didn't do anything wrong.
19:43
SPEAKER_02: And you were in high school?
19:45
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I was uh yeah, I was 18 now at that point.
19:48
SPEAKER_00: I was thinking it was like I want to say March or April of that year.
19:53
SPEAKER_00: So I turned 18 during my senior year.
19:56
SPEAKER_00: Was it 99?
19:58
SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah, yeah.
20:00
SPEAKER_02: You you were smart because I wouldn't, I wouldn't have thought to do any of that.
20:03
SPEAKER_02: I would have run away.
20:04
SPEAKER_00: I watched way too much TV.
20:05
SPEAKER_02: So my he watched Law and Order.
20:08
SPEAKER_00: I was watching everything, like, oh I thought, oh man.
20:10
SPEAKER_00: And I knew like because that year I had been in the theater well the past couple years, I was in the theater program, and we went, we did this thing where for Halloween, we went around and did a Halloween safety skit to all like the elementary schools uh in the area, and um, so they gave us permission to theater class.
20:28
SPEAKER_00: We would do this for like a week, and every day we would go to like two different schools.
20:32
SPEAKER_00: So we'd go to school in the morning, we do like a skit of a couple times for like how many grades they were showing it to, have a lunch break, and go to another school in the afternoon, do a couple more.
20:40
SPEAKER_00: And it was always a theme, you know, and there was a dance involved.
20:44
SPEAKER_00: We had choreography, it was a thing.
20:46
SPEAKER_00: Um, so we worked with the police department for it.
20:49
SPEAKER_00: So I knew some of like the sergeants, and you know, and so when they were, I was like, they're gonna come over, and they'd be like, Dustin, what'd you because they'd been to my house because we would sometimes stop off at somebody's house just to rest in between things as well.
21:02
SPEAKER_00: So they everybody came over to my house.
21:04
SPEAKER_00: We watched movies and stuff for like an hour or a couple hours, and then we went to the next place.
21:08
SPEAKER_00: It was no point in going back to school just to leave again.
21:10
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and um, so they'd all been to my house, the you know, the the sergeant and whatnot.
21:16
SPEAKER_00: And I was like, Oh my gosh, he's gonna know, he's gonna know.
21:19
SPEAKER_00: And I so I had to go, like, I went to the back door and started trying to kick in the back door.
21:23
SPEAKER_00: They didn't even look at the back door, they didn't even look at it.
21:26
SPEAKER_00: I'm like, I could have damaged this back door for nothing.
21:28
SPEAKER_00: But uh yeah, they're like, Why did you walk through the house?
21:31
SPEAKER_00: I was like, because I didn't realize that we had been robbed.
21:34
SPEAKER_00: I was like, what's going on?
21:35
SPEAKER_00: I thought I'd knocked over that plant, and then I went, Hey, where's that?
21:38
SPEAKER_00: Where's that VCR?
21:40
SPEAKER_00: And then nothing was really disheveled except for the plant.
21:43
SPEAKER_00: And uh and so I was oh, and then I found they found a pillowcase.
21:47
SPEAKER_00: Somebody had taken off a pillowcase and was trying to throw stuff into it, and then they left, which means they realized I was probably coming home.
21:55
SPEAKER_00: Ah and the way that it made it seem is like, oh, and I'm like, I'm pretty I'm fairly convinced it was somebody I knew.
22:02
SPEAKER_00: Probably because in like senior junior year, you could get like um um a work permit, so you could have a part time job and you could leave school early to go to your part time job because you probably had all your credits and whatnot, except for your basic ones for that year, and so you would do that in the morning and you get off.
22:18
SPEAKER_00: And so I left around 12 30 in the afternoon, and I would come home.
22:24
SPEAKER_00: Some people got Got to leave like at 11, just depending it depends on how much how many credits they had to make had to do.
22:30
SPEAKER_00: So, and I knew some people who did get off earlier than I did.
22:35
SPEAKER_00: And so the fact that they had probably a limited amount of time to do this makes sense.
22:40
SPEAKER_00: And they they took like my video camera, my video camera, which was broken at the time, but I put it back in its box at the bottom of my um closet behind something.
22:51
SPEAKER_00: They moved that out of the way and took it.
22:53
SPEAKER_06: They knew exactly.
22:54
SPEAKER_00: They knew exactly where everything was.
22:55
SPEAKER_06: Because I'm like, okay, so if someone's gonna rob your house in the middle of the day and they're gonna get to be CRs, I'm like, oh, this sounds like a like a teenager.
23:02
SPEAKER_00: But did they did they go into like your parents' room or they took oh they took or because I had never had a computer and we gotten a computer built for me, custom built for me, and they took it.
23:13
SPEAKER_00: Like I got it for Christmas that year, and I'd only had it a few months, and they took it, and I was like, oh.
23:19
SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, thankfully, nothing bad or anything like was on there, but you know, or anything personal.
23:25
SPEAKER_06: Sucks.
23:26
SPEAKER_00: I know, and so I had to go without a computer the rest of my senior year of high school.
23:29
SPEAKER_00: And I mean, it we got insurance money, and we were able to get me like a Toshiba laptop, which was awesome.
23:35
SPEAKER_00: One of those satellite laptops at the time, you know.
23:37
SPEAKER_00: Um, it was it was nice at the time, you know.
23:40
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, um, and uh we you know, because the VCRs got taken, we got our very first DVD player that year, so because of that, so some things good came out of it, but I'm like, I I have ideas of who it was, and I can't say it because I don't have the any evidence, and I'm you know, but just so you know, we're watching you, I know who you are.
24:02
SPEAKER_02: Like Sassin Sip solves it or like something.
24:05
SPEAKER_02: Solves the crap, right?
24:06
SPEAKER_02: Solves the mystery, and we were like, Oh, we're just you know, we're gonna have people send us questions or whatever, and we're just gonna like solve their issue.
24:15
SPEAKER_02: So I don't know.
24:15
SPEAKER_02: Like, if you ever want to solve that case, I think you can do like an only burden from the building type thing.
24:20
SPEAKER_02: You can show up here.
24:21
SPEAKER_06: And it can't wait for the season four to start.
24:23
SPEAKER_02: Like, that's it.
24:25
SPEAKER_02: What with Mama D, we're gonna solve the mystery of what these weirdos beh.
24:29
SPEAKER_02: And with Dustin, we're gonna solve who took the VCR.
24:32
SPEAKER_02: That's it.
24:33
SPEAKER_02: I did.
24:33
SPEAKER_06: Listen, got it.
24:34
SPEAKER_06: He they know who they are, and they're listening.
24:36
SPEAKER_06: We we got we're watching you.
24:38
SPEAKER_06: We know who you are.
24:40
SPEAKER_06: Dustin still has the evidence.
24:42
SPEAKER_06: We have yes.
24:43
SPEAKER_00: Um my dad does still live in that house, so just return the stuff and and all would be forgiven.
24:51
SPEAKER_02: Right, 20 25 years later, you're gonna just get like a pillowcase left at the door, you know, it's gonna have like DCR.
25:01
SPEAKER_00: You used to have those towers, they took the whole tower.
25:04
SPEAKER_00: Oh, okay, all my DVDs, and I'm like, oh, so I had to buy new DVDs, and I bought some again that I remember having, and then you know, but I was like, You took not my DVDs, excuse me, my CDs, CDs.
25:17
SPEAKER_00: I know I knew what you meant.
25:18
SPEAKER_02: I knew what you meant.
25:18
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but yeah, I had those, and I was like, Oh, I was so mad.
25:22
SPEAKER_00: I was like, Why did you take my CDs?
25:23
SPEAKER_00: You don't even most, and I'm like, I knew I had a feeling who it was.
25:27
SPEAKER_00: Like, you don't even like these people, like you don't even like these artists.
25:30
SPEAKER_00: Why would they were doing it just to like I think what I also think is so it's I think it was somebody who was a friend of mine, but they had another friend who didn't like me, and maybe found out a little bit too much about my house and what was in it, and I maybe had been over at one point, I can't remember, but uh thinking that was that person, and you know, you know, somebody doesn't like you, but they're acting like they're okay with you, but you're like, you don't like me, you know.
26:00
SPEAKER_00: I can tell um it was one of those situations.
26:04
SPEAKER_00: I'm like, uh I think I know who did it, but that sucks though.
26:08
SPEAKER_06: I mean, it still sucks.
26:09
SPEAKER_06: I just want I can't wait for you to like, hey, guess what happened guess what?
26:13
SPEAKER_06: My door, my dad opened up the door and there was the pile of shit in front of the house.
26:17
SPEAKER_06: CDL, VCRs, yeah.
26:22
SPEAKER_06: Or gift cards to replace the stuff.
26:24
SPEAKER_00: Like that'd be nice.
26:25
SPEAKER_00: I doubt it, but that'd be nice.
26:31
SPEAKER_06: Um Radio Shack.
26:33
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, yeah.
26:33
SPEAKER_06: Did you say Sam Goody?
26:34
SPEAKER_06: I just I totally said Sam Goody.
26:38
SPEAKER_06: Sam Goody, FYE, FYE, FYE, yeah.
26:40
SPEAKER_06: Wait, there was another one tapped in there.
26:43
SPEAKER_00: What was another one?
26:44
SPEAKER_00: Um another music place, like in the mall.
26:46
SPEAKER_06: Oh god, and I'm looking at I can see it in my my mind's eye.
26:51
SPEAKER_06: Sam Goody was the big one, but yeah, there was another one though.
26:54
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I know there was like Sun Coast Motion Picture Company, which had movies and stuff for way too much.
27:02
SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
27:02
SPEAKER_02: I don't remember that one.
27:04
SPEAKER_00: You don't remember that one?
27:05
SPEAKER_02: No.
27:05
SPEAKER_00: Oh, my friend apparently worked there, a friend that I met way later in life before Sun Coast was gone, and they worked there, and apparently they would take things all the time and just and nothing came of it.
27:17
SPEAKER_00: Like they got all these free movies, and they just took them.
27:20
SPEAKER_00: They were teenagers, they just took stuff and they would just end up getting like written off.
27:24
SPEAKER_06: And I'm like, Well, this is why this place is going out because this is why it's going out of business.
27:28
SPEAKER_06: It was we did it single-handedly.
27:31
SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
27:34
SPEAKER_02: Do you so one of the things that we do is we put our guests in the silly seat and we ask them a silly question.
27:40
SPEAKER_02: So I have mine queued up unless Agnes wants to go first.
27:44
SPEAKER_06: I'm gonna forget mine because you know I have that whole you know, yeah.
27:47
SPEAKER_06: I don't remember anything.
27:47
SPEAKER_06: Okay.
27:48
SPEAKER_02: You have the brain of a goldfish.
27:50
SPEAKER_06: Oh, who am I again?
27:53
SPEAKER_06: But ask me anything that's like 30 years ago, I could tell you in details.
27:57
SPEAKER_06: If you could be any, if you could be half of any animal, one, what animal would it be, and what half would it be?
28:05
SPEAKER_00: Oh god.
28:08
SPEAKER_00: Well, like if I could be half of an animal, um, I would be because I I want to fly.
28:15
SPEAKER_00: I would be a bird, and I would want it to be my arms for sure.
28:17
SPEAKER_00: Obviously, the wings, you know.
28:19
SPEAKER_03: Cool.
28:19
SPEAKER_00: So it's like at least my upper torso would be there, and the rest of my besides my arms, and then the rest could be bird, but you know, I don't want to be weird.
28:27
SPEAKER_00: I don't mean how you gonna hook up with anybody with bird body, you know.
28:30
SPEAKER_06: Um and I think in this pipe dream, it could go back and forth.
28:33
SPEAKER_06: You could like go back to I think I just want the arms.
28:36
SPEAKER_00: That's really what I want.
28:37
SPEAKER_06: Just want the arms.
28:38
SPEAKER_00: Okay, my legs are skinny enough, they're kind of bird-like anyway.
28:41
SPEAKER_00: So that'd be fine.
28:43
SPEAKER_00: I could I could just tuck them, you know.
28:45
SPEAKER_00: I'd be awesome.
28:46
SPEAKER_00: Just be able to flap my wings, just fly around, you know, and look like a weird somebody be like, what is that in the sky?
28:52
SPEAKER_02: You know, and it's playing it's Dustin bird something.
28:59
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think I would probably do that.
29:01
SPEAKER_00: I think I would probably do bird because I'd want to fly in some capacity.
29:05
SPEAKER_06: So and you thought you wouldn't have the answer to that.
29:08
SPEAKER_06: You're like, what the hell?
29:10
SPEAKER_00: Because I first I went to Centaur and I was like, I don't want to be a centaur.
29:15
SPEAKER_00: You know, I don't want to have a horse body, you know, and then like that whole question of like how does a centaur wear pants, you know, like it would be a little bit okay, yeah.
29:24
SPEAKER_00: I mean I don't want to I don't be like having like two pairs of pants on and I mean or a Seder because they could just wear regular pants, yeah.
29:31
SPEAKER_00: They're a bit bigger, but they walk like they're gonna walk all you know, because they're the way their haunches are, you know, and their knees kind of go backwards.
29:40
SPEAKER_06: And oh, that's a good point.
29:41
SPEAKER_06: So yeah, is the best answer for that one.
29:43
SPEAKER_00: It's kind of like what's his name, Grover from uh the Percy Jackson.
29:47
SPEAKER_02: Yes, that's exactly what I was I was like Sesame Street, like no, no, no, no.
29:53
SPEAKER_00: So Grover and Percy Jackson, he's a centaur, and so he wears pants, so you don't know it.
29:58
SPEAKER_00: And then I thought he was a Seder or Seder, that's what I meant.
30:01
SPEAKER_00: Sorry, Seder, that's what I meant.
30:03
SPEAKER_00: But yeah, he's a Seder, or like you know, um, and uh or a fawn, as they would call Mr.
30:08
SPEAKER_00: Tumness, but yes, the same thing.
30:10
SPEAKER_00: Uh and uh so he wears regular pants because he's like spying on Percy at the very beginning, like he makes friends with them in school, but he's supposed to be like a disabled kid, so he has like those those arm crutch things that you put over your forearms and you walk around.
30:23
SPEAKER_00: So it explains why he walks funny, but he actually walks funny because he's half goat, like yeah, okay.
30:30
SPEAKER_06: So have you read I was reading what my daughter, of course, I continue reading and she stopped, but why can't we have the author?
30:38
SPEAKER_06: The same author who wrote the Percy Jackson did an Egyptian series also.
30:43
SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah.
30:44
SPEAKER_00: No, I haven't read.
30:45
SPEAKER_00: I know he does a lot of so he's done he's done like the Percy Jackson series with like the the Greek mythology, and then you know he's done one with the Egyptians, and then also one with Romans as well, apparently.
30:56
SPEAKER_06: Okay, something he's definitely a YA author that I'm into at my very um advanced age.
31:04
SPEAKER_06: Um, but I'm gonna actually look into the Greek one.
31:07
SPEAKER_06: I mean, the Roman, the Roman.
31:09
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so he he also sponsors, he has a um his own like label of publishing, like he kind of produces other people's books that are kind of in the same foray of like uh myths and stuff of different like countries and different ethnicities and and cultures.
31:24
SPEAKER_00: Um so like you have like there was one called I want to call Sal and somebody like Break the World or something, and it's that one's more look Latin, Latino, Hispanic.
31:36
SPEAKER_00: I can't remember.
31:36
SPEAKER_00: They have those like three books on that one, and then you have like um um oh I there's one I read for Dustin Can Read, uh my other podcast that I did.
31:45
SPEAKER_00: It's called um Oh my gosh.
31:48
SPEAKER_00: It's the name of the author is Kwambe Mbala.
31:52
SPEAKER_00: And oh I I've heard of and it's Tristan Strong breaks uh punches a hole in the sky, and it's a it's it's more it's African, it's traditional African and African American uh folk legends.
32:06
SPEAKER_02: And how is that a short story?
32:08
SPEAKER_00: No, that book is like freaking fifth.
32:10
SPEAKER_00: Maybe I'm thinking of the real thing.
32:11
SPEAKER_00: There's like three of them.
32:13
SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, I really want some of these to be made into like something like big screen or series or something because that one looks really good.
32:19
SPEAKER_00: Like, there was like not only was there stuff like Br'er Rabbit and Br'er Fox was in it, but then you had like a nonse, which is like a uh uh a trickster spider that's from like South Africa folklore, and so there's really cool, I'm like, Oh, you're learning all this stuff, and he kind of goes into this like other world, and there's like a journey in another world, kind of got a little bit of an Oz, Wizard of Oz type feel to it, and he's like the chosen one type of thing.
32:45
SPEAKER_00: And how did he you know he tried to save the world?
32:48
SPEAKER_00: Who else is in it?
32:48
SPEAKER_00: Like, there's uh somebody else, it's not Paul Bunyan, but there's somebody like that in it.
32:53
SPEAKER_00: Paul Bunyan-like.
32:55
SPEAKER_00: I don't know, but anyway, he he's kind of got that same era, I think.
32:59
SPEAKER_06: It was like we're thinking about it.
33:01
SPEAKER_06: I'm like, okay, who else is Paul Bunyan-esque?
33:03
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, okay.
33:03
SPEAKER_00: But I don't know what his name is, but he's kind of like that.
33:06
SPEAKER_00: He's a big guy, you know, he's a big powerful guy.
33:08
SPEAKER_00: But it's all like uh black and African-American stories, and they're really cool, and I like them a lot.
33:12
SPEAKER_00: Um, so definitely look at him.
33:14
SPEAKER_00: Kwame Kwame Mbalia.
33:16
SPEAKER_00: It's that's the same.
33:17
SPEAKER_00: And it's under Rick Riordan Presents.
33:19
SPEAKER_00: That's the label.
33:20
SPEAKER_06: That's his label.
33:21
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so he's got he's done he does stuff, he sponsors people from different cultures, and I think there's some Asian ones too.
33:26
SPEAKER_00: I don't know those names, but um, so he he he likes them to tell the myths of their culture and legends and whatnot.
33:33
SPEAKER_00: I thought that was really and make them for like modern day kids are interacting with these things, just like Percy Jackson and whatnot.
33:40
SPEAKER_06: So because you we have tons of books for the Greeks and the Romans, like it's like it's always part of our school curriculum.
33:51
SPEAKER_06: Um, the when he when I read the ancient Egypt with the gods, they're like, Oh, that's different.
33:57
SPEAKER_06: You we didn't get a lot of that when in my day.
34:00
SPEAKER_06: So to hear this and his whole I'm I'm for it.
34:03
SPEAKER_06: I'm so in.
34:04
SPEAKER_06: I'm gonna I hope they're on audiobooks because as a grown-up, I they do, they do.
34:09
SPEAKER_00: I think I I listened to one, I think, on Libby, the from the library.
34:13
SPEAKER_00: So um, I don't know if Libby is it depends on where you're at.
34:17
SPEAKER_00: And sometimes it's a different map, but it's the same.
34:19
SPEAKER_06: Same same premise, yes.
34:20
SPEAKER_06: Right.
34:21
SPEAKER_00: So you can get them like the audiobooks or the ebooks or whatever through it.
34:24
SPEAKER_00: So, but I think I got it that way.
34:26
SPEAKER_00: I think I listened to it and I read it because I do that a lot.
34:29
SPEAKER_00: Uh sometimes I'll oh, so I can walk the dog and listen, and then if I for some reason I want to read it, or if I hear something like I don't understand that I have the book, I can look at it.
34:37
SPEAKER_00: Oh, okay, now that I'm reading it, I can get it.
34:39
SPEAKER_06: It makes sense.
34:39
SPEAKER_00: Oh, that's I do that a lot.
34:42
SPEAKER_00: Um, like I'm doing that right now because like I was saying, I was doing Dustin Can Read and Watch, which is the podcast.
34:48
SPEAKER_00: I put the book the podcast on Backburner for now, and now it's just on my Instagram, which is Dustin Can Read.
34:54
SPEAKER_00: Um, I'm doing the Dustin Can Read book club.
34:58
SPEAKER_00: And that was the hello, we're talking about this now.
35:02
SPEAKER_06: I know, I was like, this is the I love that.
35:05
SPEAKER_00: We're doing Dustin Can Read Book Club.
35:09
SPEAKER_00: Um, and so this month, uh, which is August, I don't know when this is we out, but um uh we're doing The Bright Sword um by Lev Grossman, and it's uh a tale of King Arthur.
35:23
SPEAKER_00: Um, it's really good.
35:25
SPEAKER_00: I don't know if you've ever seen the show The Magicians.
35:28
SPEAKER_05: No.
35:28
SPEAKER_05: Or I I started it.
35:31
SPEAKER_00: Okay, it's good.
35:32
SPEAKER_00: I lost interest.
35:33
SPEAKER_00: So ooh, you know, my husband loves that stuff.
35:37
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's it's one of those things.
35:38
SPEAKER_00: So if you like Harry Potter or anything like that, you will like The Magician.
35:42
SPEAKER_00: You just gotta the first season, it's a little setup, it's more setup than anything.
35:46
SPEAKER_00: So you just kind of get through it, and the second season is where it really picks up and things really start getting crazy.
35:51
SPEAKER_00: Um, so uh we actually recapped the first two seasons of The Magicians on the Rewatch recap.
35:57
SPEAKER_00: We're starting gradually doing season three, which will be a lot later.
36:02
SPEAKER_00: But so it's based off a book series by Lev Grossman, the same author of The Bright Sword.
36:07
SPEAKER_00: And so I watched the first couple seasons of The Magicians on Netflix one one time, and I was like, Oh, I really love this.
36:12
SPEAKER_00: Oh, these are books, and so I got the books.
36:15
SPEAKER_00: So the books, everybody will tell you the show is better than the books.
36:18
SPEAKER_00: Oh, just because of how they develop the characters, and the show focuses, but the books focus on like one character, and he tends to be like this mopey, uh sad kind of you know, uh, and then the other characters you really like, so they really focus on other characters in the show.
36:34
SPEAKER_00: Everybody gets equal time, so it's a little bit better in that sense.
36:37
SPEAKER_00: It's very multiracial, it's very really cool.
36:40
SPEAKER_00: And the concept is what I described it, which um I have a viral video that says this actually, and I say viral because it's been thousands of likes.
36:47
SPEAKER_03: So nice, very good.
36:49
SPEAKER_00: Uh, it's emo Harry Potter goes to Hogwarts University and finds the doorway to Narnia.
36:55
SPEAKER_02: Okay.
36:56
SPEAKER_02: Oh, I feel like I've seen that actually.
36:59
SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah, you probably have.
37:00
SPEAKER_00: You probably have.
37:01
SPEAKER_00: It's on my TikTok.
37:02
SPEAKER_00: My book.
37:03
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
37:03
SPEAKER_02: So I've probably seen it.
37:04
SPEAKER_06: So um I'm the visual love it.
37:06
SPEAKER_06: Okay.
37:07
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
37:07
SPEAKER_00: So in the show, they're going to grad school.
37:09
SPEAKER_00: In the books, it's it's undergrad, and that's it.
37:13
SPEAKER_00: So they go to school, they learn to be magicians.
37:16
SPEAKER_00: Like it's a secret society type thing.
37:18
SPEAKER_00: You have to test in.
37:19
SPEAKER_00: If you don't get in, then they wipe your brain.
37:21
SPEAKER_00: You don't even know you went and tested.
37:23
SPEAKER_00: Um, and but if they get in and they start learning about magic and whatnot, and then this bad guy from this he the main guy likes this book series, which is kind of like the Chronicles of Narnia.
37:34
SPEAKER_00: It's called Fillery and Further.
37:35
SPEAKER_00: The place is called Fillery, and it's about these kids who go to a magical land, set up same setup as Narnia, kind of.
37:42
SPEAKER_00: And um, but somebody comes from that land and shows up and starts killing people, and then goes back there.
37:50
SPEAKER_00: And it turns out that like they find a way to go there and stop this guy, and it's it's really good.
37:57
SPEAKER_00: Um, so you got a little bit of the medieval type thing like Narnia has and the weird and talking animals and whatnot, but then you also have the Harry Potter type stuff when you go to the school, but it's all aged up, so like they're doing drugs and having sex, and oh it's crazy.
38:11
SPEAKER_00: So if you watch the show, and I know you said you tried it, but like if you get it in that context, you're like, oh, oh, you know, you can give it another go.
38:18
SPEAKER_00: It gets, yeah, you gotta get a few episodes in sometimes, you know.
38:21
SPEAKER_00: Um, it's it's really good.
38:22
SPEAKER_00: I really love it.
38:23
SPEAKER_00: And the cast is spot on, like perfect casting, like from the books, same characters.
38:30
SPEAKER_00: Um, they added the character to kind of you know, the ratio of boy to girl type of thing, and another girl character to make sure kind of balance people out.
38:38
SPEAKER_00: Uh it's really good.
38:40
SPEAKER_01: So um, but yeah, I'm gonna way off topic.
38:44
SPEAKER_01: No, but that's okay.
38:45
SPEAKER_06: Okay, so this is the point.
38:47
SPEAKER_06: This is the point.
38:48
SPEAKER_06: There is no top.
38:49
SPEAKER_06: There is no uh yeah, because we try our best when we do our our other podcasts is to stay on topic, but our we get the gold when we go on tangent.
38:59
SPEAKER_06: So we're like, you know what, we're gonna do one that we're just completely off on a tangent.
39:04
SPEAKER_06: So welcome to Spotlight.
39:06
SPEAKER_02: No, um Are you ready for my silly question?
39:11
SPEAKER_06: Oh yeah, yeah.
39:12
SPEAKER_06: I'm sorry.
39:12
SPEAKER_02: No, no, no, no.
39:15
SPEAKER_02: That's why I write stuff down because otherwise I forget too.
39:19
SPEAKER_02: If you could pick between dating a superhero or a super villain, who would you choose and why?
39:28
SPEAKER_00: I would totally go with a superhero.
39:31
SPEAKER_00: I just would.
39:32
SPEAKER_00: I'm just I'm I don't care if that that you know I mean everybody's got flaws anyway.
39:37
SPEAKER_00: So the villain always I couldn't get on board with their convincing themselves that they're doing the right thing.
39:44
SPEAKER_00: That's usually what the villain is.
39:45
SPEAKER_00: I'm doing the right thing by doing an evil thing.
39:47
SPEAKER_00: Like, no, that's not right then.
39:49
SPEAKER_00: Then it's not right.
39:50
SPEAKER_00: Sorry, it's just not right, you know, and and the the hero has to do the right thing, and it doesn't always turn out good for everybody, but it's the right thing.
40:01
SPEAKER_00: You know?
40:02
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so uh what'd you say?
40:07
SPEAKER_06: I said that's admirable.
40:08
SPEAKER_00: Oh, okay.
40:09
SPEAKER_06: Take what's what's I like the the anti-hero, like the one that's the hero because the reluctant hero, maybe, yeah, because that's how most of us are like you're like shit, I gotta do the right thing.
40:22
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's what I mean.
40:23
SPEAKER_00: Like, it doesn't have to be like the Superman where he's like the golden boy and he can do no wrong.
40:27
SPEAKER_00: And I mean, I I mean Superman's hot and all, but that's great.
40:30
SPEAKER_02: Um more of a Batman kind of girl, you know, something about that little dark doc and live in a cave.
40:37
SPEAKER_02: No, no, trauma-widden.
40:39
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, dark trauma-ridden.
40:41
SPEAKER_02: Trauma, we can relate.
40:42
SPEAKER_02: Is it a big flag for you?
40:46
SPEAKER_02: Hmm.
40:46
SPEAKER_02: I may or may not tell my husband dress up as Batman.
40:49
SPEAKER_02: No, anyway.
40:52
SPEAKER_00: Oh, do Nightwing instead.
40:54
SPEAKER_00: Nightwing's kind of got okay, yeah because that's that's Robin, that's Dick Grayson, that's the same character, but he's he's also brooding, but he's not as dark as Batman.
41:02
SPEAKER_00: He's actually made dark by Batman, so he's kind of like trying to that's the whole point.
41:08
SPEAKER_00: I don't know if you've ever seen Titans.
41:10
SPEAKER_00: It was a show, but there's they had the Teen Titans and Teen Titans.
41:12
SPEAKER_02: Like a cartoon.
41:13
SPEAKER_02: I kind of like Teen Titans, I know.
41:15
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, the Teen Titans.
41:16
SPEAKER_00: Teen Titans and Teen Titans go, those are cartoons and comics.
41:20
SPEAKER_02: Those, those I'm familiar with.
41:21
SPEAKER_00: But Titans, the show is live action.
41:23
SPEAKER_00: No, okay, and it's on it's on Max or HBO Max or whatever you want to call it.
41:27
SPEAKER_00: It's got four seasons, and um they expand a little bit more and stuff.
41:32
SPEAKER_00: And Dick Grayson is in that.
41:34
SPEAKER_00: So yeah, I don't know how what much you can curse on here, but uh you can curse as much as you want on here.
41:41
SPEAKER_00: Okay, good.
41:42
SPEAKER_00: Uh so there's like a trailer for it.
41:44
SPEAKER_00: If you look up the trailer for Titan season one, and there's this whole thing, it shows him he's uh he's in like Detroit or whatever.
41:50
SPEAKER_00: I think that's where it starts off.
41:52
SPEAKER_00: And there's like some somebody getting attacked in an alley, and and he steps up and he's like, Oh crap, I gotta do this now.
41:58
SPEAKER_00: So he puts on his Robin outfit because he was still Robin at this point, and he puts on his Robert Robin outfit and he kicks these guys' asses, and he was like, uh he goes, Hey, where's Batman?
42:09
SPEAKER_00: Right?
42:10
SPEAKER_00: And they say something to him and he kicks the guy's ass and he goes, Fuck Batman.
42:16
SPEAKER_06: Robin Robins get a little resentful of Batman at this point.
42:21
SPEAKER_06: I know.
42:22
SPEAKER_06: I mean, listen, I don't kind of blame him at this point.
42:25
SPEAKER_02: Like one one year we went to Great Wolf Lodge for um I think it was my nephew's birthday.
42:32
SPEAKER_00: I've heard horror stories about that place, but yeah.
42:34
SPEAKER_02: I mean so we went and um we were like, you know, we were just like BSing after spending the day in the the water park, and we were like, oh, we're all gonna bring up our onesies like to wear, because it was, you know, my sister-in-law, my other sister-in-law, my in-laws, so you know, and like all of our collective kids.
42:58
SPEAKER_02: So we're all wearing like our onesies, and my husband had like his Batman one.
43:05
SPEAKER_02: And we run downstairs because we're like, oh, we're just gonna run down to like the shop.
43:09
SPEAKER_02: I think I don't know what I had on.
43:11
SPEAKER_00: Does it have like the cape and stuff attached to it as well?
43:13
SPEAKER_02: Like I don't know if he had it on, but I I mean this is this is like maybe six years ago, or five or six years ago.
43:23
SPEAKER_02: Um so we run down to one of the shops, and as we're waiting online, this lady pulls in with a stroller, and the baby in the stroller is dressed up as Robin.
43:35
SPEAKER_02: And now my husband Alex turns around and he's like, I've been waiting for you.
43:43
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, like where you've been like something like that, and I'm just like fucking odds.
43:46
SPEAKER_02: Like it was just meant to be.
43:48
SPEAKER_02: But then I was like, but like, what are the odds that a parent has a kid and dresses the kid up as Robin instead of Batman?
43:56
SPEAKER_02: So I was like, is there another kid somewhere else that we're gonna do?
43:59
SPEAKER_06: Like we miss Batman's running around somewhere else.
44:02
SPEAKER_02: Batman somewhere else, but yeah, something and I was just like, if if I wish it wouldn't have been so like inappropriate because like I would have loved to have like just gotten a picture because it was just so random, you know?
44:12
SPEAKER_02: Um but it was it was one of those moments that you remember.
44:16
SPEAKER_06: If you if that happened here in Wisconsin, that you asking for a picture would not have been inappropriate.
44:22
SPEAKER_02: I mean they were like, Yeah, yeah, take a picture of my kid.
44:25
SPEAKER_02: Complete stranger.
44:26
SPEAKER_02: I mean, the parents thought it was funny, you know, like they were laughing, but I was like, I don't want to take a picture of some weird people's kid.
44:32
SPEAKER_01: Like weird people.
44:34
SPEAKER_01: Oh.
44:35
SPEAKER_02: No.
44:36
SPEAKER_02: I say weird in in the most lovingly way.
44:38
SPEAKER_02: Like you know, strangers, right?
44:40
SPEAKER_02: I mean random people.
44:43
SPEAKER_02: There you go.
44:45
SPEAKER_06: Random.
44:45
SPEAKER_00: You can always blur the face of the kid.
44:47
SPEAKER_00: You know what that's just so the meow.
44:49
SPEAKER_06: Oh, yeah, that's a good point.
44:50
SPEAKER_06: But that that was kind of cute.
44:52
SPEAKER_06: That was so funny.
44:53
SPEAKER_00: That's sweet.
44:54
SPEAKER_00: That that I don't know why, but it popped in my head like my cousin had a child, like he's in his 20s now, but this was like when he was three when I first met him.
45:05
SPEAKER_00: And um, he kind of resembles her father.
45:08
SPEAKER_00: And her father and the kid have like big heads, like they just have really large skulls.
45:13
SPEAKER_00: They just do, you know what I mean?
45:14
SPEAKER_00: Like the kind you're like, man, I'm gonna have to give you a special hat.
45:17
SPEAKER_00: Like you can't just go to the store and grab a hat.
45:19
SPEAKER_00: You have to have a specialized hat.
45:22
SPEAKER_02: The kind where the kid's mom gets like an extra special present on Mother's Day because that kind of thing.
45:26
SPEAKER_00: Like, ooh.
45:27
SPEAKER_00: So yeah, she be she even says she she even brought it up herself.
45:30
SPEAKER_00: She's yeah, he's got a huge head, I know.
45:32
SPEAKER_00: Like, like and and she goes, Um, she was she talks about how one time she was so insecure about it after she had the baby, they were like, you know, they wheeled her downstairs, and her husband was getting the car, and she's just sitting in the wheelchair waiting at the curb, you know, and uh he was getting the cars pulling around, and she had like a stroller, she's holding the baby, right?
45:52
SPEAKER_00: She has a stroller, and they put like somebody people are guiding her like stuffed animals and whatnot.
45:56
SPEAKER_00: So they had a stuffed animal in the stroller, like as if that's the kid.
46:01
SPEAKER_00: And the this woman walks up and looks in the stroller and goes, Well, that's a funny looking baby.
46:06
SPEAKER_00: And the she wasn't looking, goes, Well, you because she oh, she's see oh, because I was just talking about her actual kid because the kid's gonna be.
46:14
SPEAKER_03: I know, I love that's I mean, like oh, oh, you meant that.
46:20
SPEAKER_00: I'm sorry, I'm sorry.
46:21
SPEAKER_00: Oh, I'm sorry.
46:23
SPEAKER_00: Like, I understand you're hormonal, you gotta be hormonal, you know.
46:26
SPEAKER_00: And it was the woman's fault.
46:28
SPEAKER_06: Honestly, she should have known better.
46:31
SPEAKER_00: Like, oh, what's this in the stroller?
46:32
SPEAKER_00: It would have been something different.
46:33
SPEAKER_00: You don't say that's a funny-looking baby, right?
46:36
SPEAKER_06: Like, that was that woman's fault.
46:37
SPEAKER_06: She deserved everything she got for being careless and how she said it.
46:40
SPEAKER_06: But uh, yeah, you deserve to get cursed out.
46:42
SPEAKER_06: You know, you're talking about the stuff animal.
46:44
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, you should have known better.
46:46
SPEAKER_06: Should have known better.
46:47
SPEAKER_06: I'm blaming the victim this time because it was a way in her, she was in her rights.
46:52
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I mean, I'm I'm I agree.
46:54
SPEAKER_00: It's just funny, it's just hilarious.
46:55
SPEAKER_00: I'm like, I wish I should have been there, I would have laughed so hard.
46:59
SPEAKER_00: Oh, it was so great.
47:00
SPEAKER_00: We're that kind of family, we just laugh at each other like that.
47:03
SPEAKER_00: Uh I love laughing at family members for silly things like that.
47:07
SPEAKER_06: They make it easy sometimes, don't they?
47:09
SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah, oh yeah, it's great.
47:12
SPEAKER_00: But uh, yeah, so Titans, watch Titans, it's really good.
47:15
SPEAKER_00: Um it's uh it's it gets a little over the top sometimes.
47:19
SPEAKER_00: It's a comic book show, it's kind of getting like that.
47:21
SPEAKER_00: Um, something really dark though, is there's a sister or brother show or whatever you want to call it called Doom Patrol.
47:28
SPEAKER_00: Um, they do a little crossover a little bit.
47:31
SPEAKER_00: Um, and that has Matt Bomer and Brendan Fraser, I love it, and Timothy Dalton.
47:37
SPEAKER_00: Um and I think Alan Tudic shows up at one point.
47:41
SPEAKER_00: Um, several people, and that one's it's more about like this house of people that are all they've got superpowers or they've got something wrong with them that they can use as a superpower.
47:53
SPEAKER_00: Like there's one called um Crazy Jane, and she's got like hundreds of different personalities, and each one maybe has a superpower.
47:59
SPEAKER_00: So if another one comes out, that one has a superpower.
48:02
SPEAKER_00: Like one can teleport and one can do this and one can do that, but you know, but Jane is like the anchor one, and she's just going nuts all the time.
48:09
SPEAKER_06: Um without superpowers.
48:14
SPEAKER_06: I relate to that, but I don't have my superpowers.
48:16
SPEAKER_00: It's a really it's a dark show, it's really psychological, but it's also absurd.
48:20
SPEAKER_00: But like, because at some point you get some weird villains.
48:22
SPEAKER_00: Like there's a some experiment, and there's literally a bunch of butts, butts with arms that use them as legs, and the crack opens up and there's a bunch of teeth inside, and they want to like eat everybody, a bunch of asses just running around.
48:42
SPEAKER_02: They have like a couple of those.
48:44
SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
48:46
SPEAKER_02: Do they do they do like Ace Ventura?
48:49
SPEAKER_02: Hello, can I ask you?
48:50
SPEAKER_00: They don't they don't pull apart, they just they don't talk either.
48:52
SPEAKER_00: I think one of them does at one point, but they don't talk.
48:54
SPEAKER_06: They're just like I feel like Sobo had a really bad breakup, or like, you know what?
49:00
SPEAKER_06: This is my ex, and he's just an ass.
49:02
SPEAKER_02: He's a walking ass.
49:03
SPEAKER_02: Or they ran out of ideas and he has an asked the nearest six-year-old, like, hey, what what should we use for a villain?
49:08
SPEAKER_00: It's a really absurd show.
49:10
SPEAKER_00: Like, they take all these concepts from other like DC comics and other adjacent things, like the bad uh, the dead boy detectives, which is on Netflix now.
49:18
SPEAKER_00: Okay, that's they show up on Doom Patrol, not the same actors, it's a completely recast in the Netflix show, but those characters show up on Doom Patrol because this is part of the DC vertigo, which is okay part of the same, you know, comic people.
49:32
SPEAKER_06: Everyone like Marvel has done their like their difference, and DC's done all their different.
49:37
SPEAKER_06: And I was on like I had uh Marvel and I knew everyone, and then all of a sudden they're like, No, we're gonna splint to the 600 of it series.
49:45
SPEAKER_06: I'm like, I can't, I'm confused.
49:47
SPEAKER_00: Oh, I kept up with most of them.
49:48
SPEAKER_00: I think there's only a couple I haven't done.
49:50
SPEAKER_06: Like I am just like, I thought, you know what?
49:52
SPEAKER_06: I don't have the time.
49:53
SPEAKER_06: I feel like the TV shows are all kind of like Doctor Strange in the different universes in the multiverses of TV shows, and you're just like whoosh.
50:01
SPEAKER_00: I'm like, oh no, I need and yeah, and people pick and choose when they can watch them.
50:04
SPEAKER_00: I'm like, Yeah, but you really need to watch them in the order that they came out because then it like leads into the next thing, and so you know, you have to, no, and that's another confusion, and then oh yeah, they have timelines, you can look that up.
50:15
SPEAKER_00: It's not hard to find that like release order.
50:17
SPEAKER_06: You have to find like I was lisa, like with just taking the time with the Marvel movie.
50:21
SPEAKER_06: I watched like I watch them both.
50:23
SPEAKER_06: I like to watch them in the order of production and also the order of chronological because it's just fun, yeah.
50:30
SPEAKER_00: To watch them, I would go back and watch them in chronological order.
50:33
SPEAKER_02: I would watch them the production order first, production first, right, and then chronological, right?
50:37
SPEAKER_02: And I'm a stickler for things like that, but with production first, like with Star Wars.
50:42
SPEAKER_02: Yes, but with with Marvel, for well, for me, Marvel is not like a franchise that I'm like, no, I must see every movie.
50:49
SPEAKER_02: I must I I like them, I enjoy them.
50:52
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, keep your eyes in your head.
50:54
SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna be a secret friendship, but I'm not like if I miss one, I'm also not like you know, whatever.
51:02
SPEAKER_02: So for me, I I will I will say right here, right now, I know that there are things that I am have not watched in chronological order.
51:10
SPEAKER_02: But when it comes to or at all, period.
51:12
SPEAKER_02: Or at all, right.
51:13
SPEAKER_02: But when it comes to like, you know, watching Chicago Fire and Chicago Med, here I am with my notepad and a pencil, and then the phone, the computer, and the iPad with INDB pulled up and like, okay, what's the date of this one?
51:25
SPEAKER_02: This one is make sure you watch them in the right order, yes.
51:29
SPEAKER_02: And and I swear that's a true story.
51:30
SPEAKER_00: Like, yeah, you can do that with like there's a few like special spin-offs, yeah.
51:34
SPEAKER_02: Right, you can do that with everything now because we live in the future.
51:37
SPEAKER_02: We have the internet, and and it's like it's so doable.
51:40
SPEAKER_02: It's just that I when it comes to like the comic book stuff, I'm just not interested enough to care.
51:48
SPEAKER_02: To worry about watching it chronologically.
51:50
SPEAKER_02: You don't care, Listen.
51:51
SPEAKER_02: I'm sorry.
51:52
SPEAKER_00: I can't actually I it took me forever.
51:54
SPEAKER_00: I've told people this before, but I tried to read comics as a kid, but I didn't understand, I didn't have anybody around me that read comics.
52:01
SPEAKER_00: So when I see comic books, like I didn't have a comic book store around me that I knew about anyway.
52:06
SPEAKER_00: I would see them like in the grocery store, you know, just sitting in where the magazines were.
52:10
SPEAKER_00: And so that's like when Batman, the first 1989 Batman came out, I was like, ooh, I want to read Batman because I'd watched the Adam West show as well.
52:17
SPEAKER_00: And so I picked up a copy of a comic and it was like mid-story.
52:21
SPEAKER_00: I didn't realize, I thought each comic book was its own separate story.
52:24
SPEAKER_00: I didn't realize it was a continued thing.
52:27
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it confused me.
52:28
SPEAKER_00: I was like, I don't understand.
52:30
SPEAKER_00: And so, and I was God, I was eight.
52:33
SPEAKER_00: So I was like, I I can't, I can't do this.
52:35
SPEAKER_00: I don't know what the hell is going on.
52:36
SPEAKER_00: I don't get it, you know.
52:38
SPEAKER_00: And you know, it took me a long time.
52:40
SPEAKER_00: It was like when the Marvel movie started coming out that somebody was like, Hey, let's go to free comic book day.
52:44
SPEAKER_00: You can pick up something.
52:46
SPEAKER_00: I saw some things, like, okay, and I got I bought something, and they were like, Okay, will you get a free comic?
52:51
SPEAKER_00: Uh a three volume of like something to something.
52:54
SPEAKER_00: So I was like, uh, and I knew that a show was being made out of one of them, and the and it was like volume three of it.
53:02
SPEAKER_00: So I was like, okay, I'll get volume three, and then I'll get one and two, and I'll just read it.
53:05
SPEAKER_00: And I read it and I started reading them in order, in encased volumes of like all these comics in order.
53:10
SPEAKER_00: And I was like, oh, it was Marvel's Runaways.
53:14
SPEAKER_04: Okay.
53:14
SPEAKER_00: And um, which is kind of in the MCU, but kind of not.
53:18
SPEAKER_00: They haven't really officially said it, but it's you know.
53:21
SPEAKER_00: Uh so I ended up watching the show.
53:24
SPEAKER_00: I love the show, and I read like the original run of the runaways, and then they kind of rebooted it, not rebooted it, but a new writer came on to start telling stories a little bit differently from that point on.
53:36
SPEAKER_00: And I didn't really like how they were telling the stories.
53:38
SPEAKER_00: So I was like, I don't like this.
53:39
SPEAKER_00: This doesn't feel right.
53:40
SPEAKER_00: This doesn't feel right.
53:42
SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
53:42
SPEAKER_00: Like, you can tell it's like when a new show come, you know, a show comes out and you're watching it for a while, and then they get a new show runner, and it's like the the quality changes.
53:49
SPEAKER_00: Something's different.
53:52
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, no, it doesn't feel right, it doesn't feel organic, it doesn't feel authentic.
53:55
SPEAKER_06: You can tell.
53:56
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, something's different.
53:57
SPEAKER_00: Someone's they're really pushing this angle, and I don't want that.
54:00
SPEAKER_00: I want it back to how it was.
54:01
SPEAKER_00: And then, you know, sometimes they come back around, but you know, um, that's how it was.
54:06
SPEAKER_00: So I was like, uh, so I don't read as many comics, I'll read volumes, I don't read like individual comics.
54:11
SPEAKER_00: So I'm not gonna go every time just to get one and then go back the next month to get the next one.
54:14
SPEAKER_00: I'm like, no, I want it all at one sitting, I want the whole a completed story.
54:18
SPEAKER_00: So I don't know.
54:19
SPEAKER_06: I am spoiled with technology.
54:21
SPEAKER_06: I want what I want when I want it.
54:23
SPEAKER_06: I want it all in one shot.
54:24
SPEAKER_06: I want a binge read.
54:25
SPEAKER_00: Right.
54:26
SPEAKER_00: And what I've learned is that I don't really like I like Marvel's comics more than DC's comics, the way they tell stories.
54:35
SPEAKER_00: Okay, just the way they tell the stories, yeah.
54:37
SPEAKER_00: But when it comes to like um television, I prefer DC television shows.
54:44
SPEAKER_06: Over the Marvel.
54:45
SPEAKER_00: Over the well, I don't I don't like the Marvel.
54:47
SPEAKER_00: I like the Marvel movies, but I also like the Marvel television shows.
54:51
SPEAKER_00: I like the how they intermingle.
54:52
SPEAKER_00: I just like that.
54:53
SPEAKER_00: I like a continuation of everything, you know.
54:55
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, using this character and this, and you know, I think that's cool.
54:58
SPEAKER_00: Um, I just I it just feels broad and like, oh wow, it's it's a bigger concept, and they're they have more use than this, their own little story.
55:05
SPEAKER_00: They have use in other stories, you know.
55:07
SPEAKER_00: Yes, um, and but when it comes to like DC, I only really like the movies than the TV shows.
55:15
SPEAKER_00: Okay, because like Batman TV shows, I'm like, I can't watch this darkness for this long, like it's just so much.
55:22
SPEAKER_06: If it's just a like a pocket like a movie, fine.
55:25
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, ongoing dark and for Superman, I like I've tried so many Superman TV shows and I've watched a few, and I'm just like, I can't get into this.
55:35
SPEAKER_00: Like, just give me the single story.
55:36
SPEAKER_00: I don't want this continued melodrama because I don't want to see Superman be melodramatic all the time.
55:41
SPEAKER_06: Oh my god, I just thought it was me because I hate I I I just don't like super.
55:45
SPEAKER_06: I'm just like I the modern, oh it was me.
55:48
SPEAKER_00: No, yeah, it was a little bit I can do it in a movie form, it's one and done, and we're good, you know, but not like continued week to week.
55:57
SPEAKER_00: I'm like, get over yourself.
55:58
SPEAKER_00: You're hot, you're the most powerful man in the world.
56:00
SPEAKER_00: Like right.
56:01
SPEAKER_06: What baby?
56:02
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no, yeah, it was the the one with um Terry Hatcher and Lois and Clark.
56:10
SPEAKER_02: It was Lois and Clark.
56:11
SPEAKER_02: I remember watching a few episodes and being like, oh, this is cool, and then like lost interest.
56:17
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
56:17
SPEAKER_02: And even Smallville.
56:19
SPEAKER_02: I tried that for a second.
56:21
SPEAKER_00: I watched Smallville for a while.
56:23
SPEAKER_00: And I watched that long dropped off.
56:24
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and then I dropped off.
56:27
SPEAKER_02: But it's I think, yeah, you're right.
56:28
SPEAKER_02: Like I never thought about it that way before.
56:30
SPEAKER_00: But yeah, sometimes I'll go back and finish.
56:32
SPEAKER_00: Like, I went back and finally finished Smallville, you know, because like I was away from it long enough.
56:36
SPEAKER_00: Like, okay, I want to know what happens and how it gets to the point at the end.
56:39
SPEAKER_06: You know, how disappointed you're like, I'm prepared.
56:42
SPEAKER_00: Oh, I was totally disappointed at the end because you don't see him actually fly, but you see it, you see him fly in the very last episode, but from a distance, and he's wearing the um the Superman outfit from Superman Returns, the same one, but you barely see that, just a little bit.
56:59
SPEAKER_00: Okay, it's really quick.
57:00
SPEAKER_00: You only see everything really quick, and then it's kind of over, and you're like, What?
57:03
SPEAKER_00: That that's what we waited 10 years for.
57:06
SPEAKER_06: Right.
57:06
SPEAKER_06: I I'd rather the dark screen and the sopranos at this rate, like yeah.
57:10
SPEAKER_00: Just cut, done, you know, just cut it.
57:12
SPEAKER_06: Just it's over and done with.
57:13
SPEAKER_06: It's over.
57:14
SPEAKER_00: I'm divorcing your TV.
57:16
SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
57:17
SPEAKER_00: Uh, precisely.
57:18
SPEAKER_00: Like, so with Marvel, you know, I like how they like their multiverse storylines, how not just multiverse, but just how they're able to integrate each character, and each character's different at each one, it's got a different tone.
57:33
SPEAKER_02: They do a really good job with that.
57:35
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, like you have WandaVision, which is like was really cool.
57:38
SPEAKER_02: I enjoyed WandaVision.
57:39
SPEAKER_00: Oh man, I love WandaVision because I'm a TV nut, and I just the fact that they were using all these TV tropes and stuff.
57:44
SPEAKER_00: I loved it so much.
57:45
SPEAKER_02: I was like, oh, what's what's this episode?
57:47
SPEAKER_02: And it was like, Oh, this is I love Lucy, and and I was like, Oh, I loved it.
57:50
SPEAKER_02: I loved it.
57:51
SPEAKER_00: And then I love Miss Marble because I'm a my mom brought me up for like girl power.
57:55
SPEAKER_00: Like my mom was always like, you know, gung ho women, everything.
57:58
SPEAKER_00: So I just kind of was on her heels about that.
58:00
SPEAKER_00: Like, I always love like powerful women.
58:02
SPEAKER_00: Like I love Captain Marvel.
58:03
SPEAKER_00: People don't like her.
58:04
SPEAKER_00: I love Captain Marvel, I think she's awesome, you know.
58:06
SPEAKER_00: I love how she kind of took that, it's almost like a top gun, meet superhero type stance, you know.
58:11
SPEAKER_00: Um, I love that, you know, totally taking the man's position, which a lot of men don't like, and like and I love it more.
58:18
SPEAKER_06: And I love the and they did make her overly humble at the end, which they always do that with strong female characters and make her like, oh, I'm gonna save the day.
58:30
SPEAKER_06: No, she's still an complete badass, and she's like, Yeah, I'm a badass.
58:34
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, and they bring her back in for everything.
58:35
SPEAKER_06: She's like, I'm still a badass, you know.
58:37
SPEAKER_00: Like I and the thing I loved about Miss Marvel was that not only did she like she idolized Captain Marvel, right?
58:43
SPEAKER_00: But the fact that she was a fangirl, that she was like somebody like me who would watch a TV show or something about somebody they loved, and then they're like, and then they get wrapped up into it.
58:51
SPEAKER_00: They brought into the whole you know scenario, and and and they're just like, Oh my god, I can't believe I'm in a scenario.
58:56
SPEAKER_00: And it's like, yeah, of course you would freak out like that, you know.
59:00
SPEAKER_00: You're like, I can't believe no, I have superpowers.
59:02
SPEAKER_00: What?
59:02
SPEAKER_00: You know, like yeah, I love it.
59:04
SPEAKER_00: I love it so much, and I love how they're bringing in people from different cultures and whatnot and and changing that black people don't like it.
59:10
SPEAKER_00: I'm like, why don't you like that?
59:12
SPEAKER_00: This is what the world looks like, guys.
59:14
SPEAKER_00: Like, let's mix it up.
59:15
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, and the fact that you don't like it says a lot about you, as opposed to everyone else.
59:22
SPEAKER_06: Have a great day, bye.
59:24
SPEAKER_02: And I like that Marvel does um they they try to be a lot more inclusive and and their writing is done really well, so you know, like they they do a good job of like kind of walking the line between the storyline and then like the Easter eggs and the little jokes, and and and I feel like when you watch there's there is something for everyone.
59:46
SPEAKER_02: Like, so even somebody like me who's not like totally into the comic books per se, I'll still watch it and enjoy it.
59:55
SPEAKER_02: And I'm like, oh, that was a good movie.
59:56
SPEAKER_02: Like that was a good show.
59:57
SPEAKER_00: You don't have to know the comic story, it they just take elements from those stories and create their own thing with it or mix them up in a different way, but even even the movies do that too, right?
1:00:06
SPEAKER_00: That's what I mean.
1:00:07
SPEAKER_00: Like, so because their whole point is like the comics are their own multiverse.
1:00:12
SPEAKER_00: So the comics are part of it because the same things are happening in different universes, it's just to different person or different versions of that character, or different, you know, and that's what's really cool about it.
1:00:23
SPEAKER_00: And that's how you explain it away.
1:00:24
SPEAKER_00: Like, okay, well, like Spider-Man, you had all those three different Peter Parker show up in the same movie, they were all Peter Parker, but they all experienced their villains in different ways and their love stories in different ways, you know, and but they were all the same character, which I thought was smart because technically they could bring in Miles Morales at some point, which I hope they do, um, to even fight alongside Peter Parker, you know, and which I think Tom Holland's like, let's bring in Miles Morales.
1:00:49
SPEAKER_00: He wants in the he wants to be the co-spider-man, you know, and at least they're like pass the mantle eventually, kind of, you know, like all right, now Miles, you take over, and maybe like Spider Gwen will show up, you know, and you'll have the female Spider-Man or Spider Woman, I guess.
1:01:03
SPEAKER_00: There is a Spider Woman, but um Yeah.
1:01:05
SPEAKER_06: And then they have a cartoon, which are three Spider.
1:01:09
SPEAKER_06: They have a cartoon with the three Spider-Man.
1:01:12
SPEAKER_06: Yes, I have I have grandchildren.
1:01:14
SPEAKER_06: I swear to god, I'm not weird.
1:01:15
SPEAKER_00: Um well, they they're also coming out with uh um because Nicolas Cage was the voice of Spider-Man Noir in Across the Spider-Verse.
1:01:24
SPEAKER_00: Okay, and he was the black and white one with the trench coat.
1:01:26
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, okay.
1:01:27
SPEAKER_00: So they're making a live action show on Amazon, apparently, for Spider-Man Noir, and it's gonna be Nicolas Cage.
1:01:34
SPEAKER_06: Is he gonna speak?
1:01:36
SPEAKER_06: I have a lot of TV now to watch now going forward.
1:01:40
SPEAKER_00: If you talk to me, you will always have a lot of TV to watch.
1:01:42
SPEAKER_00: That's just that's my thing.
1:01:43
SPEAKER_00: I can't help it.
1:01:45
SPEAKER_06: And Lisa and I have like we always like this movies.
1:01:48
SPEAKER_06: I'm like, how do you never seen this?
1:01:50
SPEAKER_06: And she's like, How can you never seen this?
1:01:52
SPEAKER_06: So we like we've seen almost everything, but not the same thing.
1:01:56
SPEAKER_06: Right.
1:01:57
SPEAKER_06: Well, I mean, I'll show you something right here.
1:01:59
SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna show you one, I'm gonna show you one thing.
1:02:01
SPEAKER_00: Hold on.
1:02:03
SPEAKER_00: I get it.
1:02:04
SPEAKER_00: So this right here is a case of DVDs.
1:02:10
SPEAKER_00: There's probably a hundred and something DVDs in here.
1:02:13
SPEAKER_00: I've got three of these cases full of DVDs of movies.
1:02:18
SPEAKER_00: I've got another one of TV on DVD, and then I've got box sets in a thing.
1:02:23
SPEAKER_00: I've got so many things I could watch.
1:02:24
SPEAKER_00: So, like if digital ever went down, I will never be bored.
1:02:27
SPEAKER_06: You're covered.
1:02:28
SPEAKER_06: You are covered.
1:02:29
SPEAKER_06: You're like, I am, I'm good.
1:02:31
SPEAKER_00: It would take up a whole wall full of stuff for me.
1:02:34
SPEAKER_00: But I took them out and I put them in the case because it's I don't need the cases individually.
1:02:39
SPEAKER_06: I feel like that's like your that's like that the movie version of your cards of cards against humanity.
1:02:44
SPEAKER_06: Like Lisa has about, I would say not joking, maybe about 5,000 different cards.
1:02:50
SPEAKER_06: Maybe more.
1:02:51
SPEAKER_00: I have it, I have the bigger blacker box.
1:02:53
SPEAKER_02: No, oh no.
1:02:54
SPEAKER_02: Oh, wait, we have the the case.
1:02:57
SPEAKER_02: We had the bigger blacker box, and then we upgraded to the one with like the handle.
1:03:02
SPEAKER_00: Oh, not enough, like the the bigger one, and it's I've gotten some expansion packs from like Target or something, but that's and I've only got a few of those.
1:03:10
SPEAKER_00: I haven't played in a while though.
1:03:11
SPEAKER_01: She has a problem, they have a problem.
1:03:12
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's I can play with you, it's totally cool.
1:03:14
SPEAKER_05: I love this.
1:03:15
SPEAKER_05: Oh, we should do one episode of Justin Claws Against Humanity.
1:03:19
SPEAKER_05: I'm in.
1:03:19
SPEAKER_05: Assassin's Game Knight.
1:03:21
SPEAKER_05: Let's do it.
1:03:21
SPEAKER_00: There was a oh my gosh, what's the name of it?
1:03:23
SPEAKER_00: There's a game, and it's similar to Cards Against Humanity in Apples to Apples.
1:03:27
SPEAKER_00: Um, and it's actually kid friendly as well, but it also has some of the things in it.
1:03:32
SPEAKER_00: It's like double on tendre.
1:03:33
SPEAKER_00: I'm trying to remember the name of it.
1:03:34
SPEAKER_02: There, there's Cards Against Humanity Family Edition because we have that one also.
1:03:38
SPEAKER_00: Well, they do have that, but there's this one was like it was a little different, but it was it was similar.
1:03:42
SPEAKER_00: It was just god, what was it called?
1:03:44
SPEAKER_00: But we played it.
1:03:45
SPEAKER_00: Let me tell you the story.
1:03:47
SPEAKER_00: Okay, so we were sitting around, it's my my um we went, I went to um Pennsylvania because where my family, my mom, her side of the family is from, and our great aunt had passed away.
1:04:00
SPEAKER_00: And we went up there this week.
1:04:02
SPEAKER_00: And um, what'd you say?
1:04:03
SPEAKER_02: Oh, I was like, I drove through PA last week.
1:04:05
SPEAKER_00: Well, we were in Scranton, actually, so that's where my mom's family's from.
1:04:08
SPEAKER_02: Home of the office.
1:04:10
SPEAKER_00: Yep.
1:04:11
SPEAKER_00: Um but anyway, so we went there and ah, nice.
1:04:16
SPEAKER_00: Um, so we were playing this game, and I don't remember, like I said, I don't remember the name of it, but uh oh my gosh.
1:04:22
SPEAKER_00: So it had my cousin, my aunt, who's my cousin's mother, and then my other cousin with her husband, and then both cousins have their children, which is one like nine and ten, right?
1:04:34
SPEAKER_00: And then me.
1:04:35
SPEAKER_00: And we did this this game.
1:04:39
SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna try to find this uh thing that she said to me because she sent it to me, and I was like, oh my goodness, I could not believe.
1:04:49
SPEAKER_00: So we, you know, are playing this game and something came up, and we totally read it a completely different way than they did.
1:05:02
SPEAKER_00: Okay.
1:05:03
SPEAKER_00: The question was Andy is obsessed with blank, and we all had to put a card down, right?
1:05:12
SPEAKER_00: The card.
1:05:16
SPEAKER_02: I'm listening.
1:05:17
SPEAKER_00: The card said that one, or that made us all laugh, was doggy style.
1:05:26
SPEAKER_02: And we all sorry for my gold books.
1:05:28
SPEAKER_00: Our little cousin couldn't read it very well.
1:05:29
SPEAKER_00: He's he's not as good at this reading yet, and he kept saying, Doggy, doggy stu st st and we read it, and we're like, doggy style.
1:05:37
SPEAKER_00: And we all just burst out laughing.
1:05:39
SPEAKER_00: The kids did not get it at all.
1:05:42
SPEAKER_00: And they chose that.
1:05:43
SPEAKER_00: I think the judge was like one of the kids, like, okay, we'll choose this one.
1:05:46
SPEAKER_00: It made everybody laugh.
1:05:47
SPEAKER_06: Mine's boring.
1:05:49
SPEAKER_06: We were like, oh my god, it was so my god when when you accidentally corrupt your kids in the family.
1:05:55
SPEAKER_06: That's amazing.
1:05:55
SPEAKER_00: Well, now they're gonna look up what that means, yeah.
1:05:58
SPEAKER_00: And they're like, not of age to really need to know.
1:06:01
SPEAKER_06: So but they uh but they it okay, so it's a little bit harder when you do that with the kids now because you're like, I'll tell you when you're older, they have access to it right there in their hands at 19 years old.
1:06:12
SPEAKER_06: So you're like, oh wait, so then you have to go and explain what doggy style is.
1:06:17
SPEAKER_00: You know how a dog makes another dog, right?
1:06:20
SPEAKER_06: That's what doggy style is, and then I'm sure like online will give you well, this also.
1:06:25
SPEAKER_06: Dogging, and then you got peggy.
1:06:27
SPEAKER_06: Like they go on this little list of different things that you're like, wait, what's dogging?
1:06:31
SPEAKER_02: Like, oh no.
1:06:34
SPEAKER_02: So, like on the you know, on the box it says like ages 17 and up.
1:06:39
SPEAKER_02: And so it was always like, Oh, you know, the kids like they would see us playing, you know, go wherever, right?
1:06:45
SPEAKER_02: Like, and we would play.
1:06:46
SPEAKER_02: And so he's like, Oh, can we play?
1:06:47
SPEAKER_02: No, you're not old enough.
1:06:49
SPEAKER_02: Oh, my daughter, my oldest is 17.
1:06:51
SPEAKER_02: So she's like, Can I play with you guys?
1:06:54
SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, Technically, technically, yes.
1:06:58
SPEAKER_06: Actually, no.
1:07:00
SPEAKER_00: Maybe not this time, but yeah.
1:07:03
SPEAKER_02: I'm like, and my husband is like, there is no way that I am playing that game with my daughter.
1:07:07
SPEAKER_02: I'm like, you won't even play with your mom.
1:07:09
SPEAKER_02: So yeah, no.
1:07:10
SPEAKER_06: I think, like, yes, you could play this with your friends, but you cannot play with that.
1:07:16
SPEAKER_06: You can't play with my friends.
1:07:17
SPEAKER_06: No, you got a mean girls or you can't say what that's like no, because like I I always tell my friends, I wouldn't listen.
1:07:26
SPEAKER_06: I am all about like I contribute to the destruction of a minor's brain.
1:07:31
SPEAKER_06: Okay, but they're your kids.
1:07:32
SPEAKER_06: You can do that.
1:07:33
SPEAKER_06: I would not be a party to that.
1:07:36
SPEAKER_06: So if they're under the age of 18, we cannot share social media.
1:07:41
SPEAKER_06: I don't care even if it's my kid.
1:07:42
SPEAKER_06: We do not share social media until we hit 18.
1:07:45
SPEAKER_06: Because after that, you can no longer blame me for the shit that comes out of their mouths because of what came out of my mouth.
1:07:51
SPEAKER_06: Um, because they're 18.
1:07:55
SPEAKER_06: 17.5 not nope.
1:07:56
SPEAKER_06: Sorry, we have to wait to answer.
1:07:58
SPEAKER_00: Possible deniability.
1:07:58
SPEAKER_00: Like, nope, you know.
1:08:00
SPEAKER_06: Wasn't me.
1:08:01
SPEAKER_06: I mean, I'm pretty sure they've heard worse at home.
1:08:03
SPEAKER_06: And I'm like, haha, more power to you.
1:08:05
SPEAKER_06: Yes, I support that, but not me.
1:08:08
SPEAKER_06: Nope.
1:08:09
SPEAKER_00: I mean, for real, uh, even as kids, we know that when we were kids, we heard a lot worse stuff from other kids.
1:08:15
SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
1:08:15
SPEAKER_00: Without their parents around, just from schoolyard talk.
1:08:18
SPEAKER_00: Schoolyard, right?
1:08:19
SPEAKER_06: Oh, the shit that was on the schoolyard.
1:08:21
SPEAKER_00: Oh, man, we learned so much and still had questions, but we didn't have the internet to look it up and we couldn't ask your parents.
1:08:26
SPEAKER_00: No, you just had to look stupid.
1:08:29
SPEAKER_00: You're like, it's not in front of your friends who knew what it was.
1:08:32
SPEAKER_01: Uh huh.
1:08:32
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
1:08:33
SPEAKER_02: And and of course, half of what we knew was complete bullshit, but like nobody knew any better.
1:08:39
SPEAKER_02: So we were good.
1:08:40
SPEAKER_02: We were fine.
1:08:41
SPEAKER_02: Until then you get a little older and then you're like, Oh, that is so not how that works.
1:08:46
SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah, totally.
1:08:47
SPEAKER_06: I was an angel.
1:08:48
SPEAKER_06: I don't know what you're talking about.
1:08:51
SPEAKER_06: Right.
1:08:51
SPEAKER_06: I will my halo.
1:08:55
SPEAKER_00: Like, I had like a the soundtrack to pump up the volume.
1:08:57
SPEAKER_00: Remember, pump up the volume of the movie?
1:08:59
SPEAKER_00: I had the soundtrack to it, and the very first song is called Pump Up the Jams.
1:09:03
SPEAKER_04: Right.
1:09:04
SPEAKER_00: And I put it on and I'd gotten the soundtrack because I loved that movie.
1:09:07
SPEAKER_00: I was too young to like the movie.
1:09:09
SPEAKER_00: Okay.
1:09:09
SPEAKER_00: It was but I watched the movie, you know, I was like in fifth grade, and you know, and um there's boobies in it and stuff, right?
1:09:17
SPEAKER_00: So, but uh, I mean, I didn't care about movies, but still, um I didn't know it then, but I didn't I love you.
1:09:25
SPEAKER_03: I get it.
1:09:26
SPEAKER_00: I didn't care.
1:09:27
SPEAKER_00: I was like, oh, there's I see this girl's chest.
1:09:29
SPEAKER_00: All right.
1:09:29
SPEAKER_00: Um, it was more of the taboo of it all, not really the, you know.
1:09:32
SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah, yeah.
1:09:33
SPEAKER_00: So the the freaking song, I had it, you know, my Mac my cassette, my Walkman, and I was listening to it on the playground, and somebody came up and wanted to hear what I was listening to.
1:09:40
SPEAKER_00: It's like I'm listening to the pump up the volume soundtrack.
1:09:42
SPEAKER_00: I'm like, can I listen to it?
1:09:44
SPEAKER_00: I was like, there's some bad songs on here, guys.
1:09:46
SPEAKER_00: Like, I was I didn't want to get in trouble.
1:09:48
SPEAKER_06: In trouble.
1:09:48
SPEAKER_00: And then so this other kid's like, you know, I was like, okay, you can hear it.
1:09:51
SPEAKER_00: So I put it on, and I put and the song starts.
1:09:54
SPEAKER_00: The very first song goes, Pop up the chance, motherfuckers.
1:09:57
SPEAKER_00: It's the first lyric that comes out of the mouth.
1:10:00
SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, and he's like, Yeah, I'm gonna be in so much trouble.
1:10:04
SPEAKER_00: Like, this is the same school that years earlier made me take off my Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the movie shirt, because it said vampires suck, Buffy slays.
1:10:14
SPEAKER_06: Yes.
1:10:15
SPEAKER_00: And they said, Oh, it says suck.
1:10:16
SPEAKER_00: I was like, but they do, they suck blood, right?
1:10:19
SPEAKER_00: And they're like, we can't have that in the school, we can't have that.
1:10:21
SPEAKER_00: I'm like, really suck?
1:10:22
SPEAKER_06: Suck?
1:10:23
SPEAKER_06: Funny.
1:10:23
SPEAKER_06: It's their interpretation, which was correct, that made it taboo, not the literal way that a child was going to read into it.
1:10:32
SPEAKER_00: Well, I knew what it meant.
1:10:33
SPEAKER_00: I mean, like, suck.
1:10:34
SPEAKER_00: Oh, it sucks, but at the same time, I knew that it also meant this.
1:10:37
SPEAKER_00: And I was like, it's just a funny play on words, big deal, you know.
1:10:41
SPEAKER_00: And they were like, No, we can't have that.
1:10:43
SPEAKER_00: I'm like, it's not like it's a curse word.
1:10:45
SPEAKER_06: Because I get you know what I mean.
1:10:48
SPEAKER_00: If you want that shirt instead, oh, that happened once too.
1:10:51
SPEAKER_00: I was in so my dad had a shirt, and you know, if I start wanting, I wouldn't have a shirt available, I would put on a shirt and like I would have a sweater, but I want a shirt on underneath it because you know, sweater kind of itches you a little bit.
1:11:02
SPEAKER_00: So I was wearing my dad's shirt as an undershirt and it was a white shirt.
1:11:07
SPEAKER_00: And I got hot in school and I forgot that I put this shirt on.
1:11:10
SPEAKER_00: Actually, I don't even think I knew what shirt I was wearing.
1:11:12
SPEAKER_00: I just grabbed a white shirt and put it on.
1:11:15
SPEAKER_00: And then I got hot and I took off my sweater, and we're sitting around in like a reading group in class, and it was like sixth grade, maybe fifth grade, and somebody goes, Dustin, Dustin.
1:11:24
SPEAKER_00: I'm like, What?
1:11:25
SPEAKER_00: Your shirt, your shirt.
1:11:26
SPEAKER_00: I'm like, what?
1:11:26
SPEAKER_00: And like, your shirt.
1:11:28
SPEAKER_00: The teacher was walking around.
1:11:29
SPEAKER_00: I was like, what?
1:11:29
SPEAKER_00: And I looked down and I didn't realize that the shirt I had on was my dad's shirt that said, Save me, fuck the whales.
1:11:40
SPEAKER_00: And I went, oh, oh, and I was like, I guess I'll just have to sweat, you know, because I'm like, put on the sweater again.
1:11:46
SPEAKER_00: I'm like, thank you, you know.
1:11:48
SPEAKER_00: But I wish I had that shirt still.
1:11:53
SPEAKER_06: We'll have to find that on Amazon somewhere.
1:11:56
SPEAKER_00: Like that was a big thing too.
1:12:00
SPEAKER_00: But we were like saving the whales back in the day.
1:12:02
SPEAKER_00: Nobody talks about that anymore.
1:12:03
SPEAKER_00: I guess we saved them.
1:12:04
SPEAKER_02: We save it, they're fine, they're fine, they're fine, yeah.
1:12:06
SPEAKER_02: They're they're tacking boats, they're yeah, you know, after we freed Willie, it was all good.
1:12:10
SPEAKER_00: So exactly.
1:12:11
SPEAKER_00: All those orcus are like, all right, now let's get rid of the yachts, you know.
1:12:15
SPEAKER_06: Right?
1:12:15
SPEAKER_06: I mean, now human race needs to be saved.
1:12:18
SPEAKER_06: By whom?
1:12:18
SPEAKER_06: I don't know.
1:12:19
SPEAKER_06: Maybe the whales can save us.
1:12:21
SPEAKER_06: Maybe they can.
1:12:22
SPEAKER_00: Maybe maybe that's what they're trying to do.
1:12:24
SPEAKER_00: Like trying to take down like the the one percent.
1:12:27
SPEAKER_00: They're taking you know, like you're screwing everybody over.
1:12:31
SPEAKER_00: Get these people in the water, you know.
1:12:33
SPEAKER_06: Like they're flipping yachts.
1:12:35
SPEAKER_00: It's all your fault.
1:12:36
SPEAKER_00: We figured it out.
1:12:37
SPEAKER_06: We figured it out.
1:12:38
SPEAKER_06: We got your we got your back, homies.
1:12:40
SPEAKER_06: We got your back down here under.
1:12:45
SPEAKER_00: Totally comes out.
1:12:47
SPEAKER_06: I have this whole like little thing in my head now that's an underwater little rebel for us, like a little they're like I think I really had started thinking that when they were attacking all these yachts.
1:12:57
SPEAKER_00: I was like, are they going after the bad, like rich people?
1:13:00
SPEAKER_06: Rich people, like the whales and then the naw walls, and they're probably like, yeah, I'm I'm sure there's a coup there's a co the coalition down there.
1:13:09
SPEAKER_06: I think, I think, yeah, I'm pretty sure.
1:13:11
SPEAKER_00: Oh, whether they have anything to do.
1:13:12
SPEAKER_00: I don't know if you've ever seen um what is it called?
1:13:15
SPEAKER_00: The uh Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.
1:13:18
SPEAKER_06: Never seen that.
1:13:19
SPEAKER_00: So it starts off where all the dolphins jump out of the ocean and like like fly swim away into outer space, singing their little dolphin where they sing, but interpreted it's so long and thinks for all the fish, and they're like flying away, and like that's like the first sign that the earth is about to get blown up to make way for this like intergalactic highway.
1:13:48
SPEAKER_00: Okay, so it's like they're cutting down the trees of the road to make the road.
1:13:53
SPEAKER_06: It's eminent domain, like they're taking over.
1:13:55
SPEAKER_06: I I love that.
1:13:56
SPEAKER_00: I kind of yeah, that's the whole purpose of the so like there's a guy who's there to like study Earth and whatnot, and so that there's record of stuff that happened there and the people there and what type of culture it was there before they blow it up.
1:14:09
SPEAKER_00: And he meets a guy and he's like, Hey, I like you, I'm gonna let you in on the secret.
1:14:12
SPEAKER_00: I'm an alien and they're about to blow up this planet, so you might want to come with me.
1:14:16
SPEAKER_00: And so he takes off, and then boom, the planet gets blown up.
1:14:20
SPEAKER_00: And so the whole movie and books apparently take place on like spaceships, very different species of alien, and there's like you know, political crap and funny stuff going on, and and that's why it's called Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, because he hitchhiked along with this other guy, and they're hopping spaceships and stuff.
1:14:38
SPEAKER_06: Um, okay.
1:14:40
SPEAKER_06: I so I I don't know what I'm gonna watch first when I get off this call, Hitchhiker's Guide, or if I'm gonna watch like um Titans, Titans, yeah.
1:14:48
SPEAKER_00: Hitchhiker's Guide is just a movie, so you could start with that one.
1:14:51
SPEAKER_00: That one's just over and done.
1:14:53
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
1:14:53
SPEAKER_02: Do you have a favorite genre for like TV or movies or anything like that?
1:14:58
SPEAKER_00: Uh I tend to gravitate either to comedy in general, um, or um somewhat fantasy, not heavy fantasy.
1:15:09
SPEAKER_00: Like I can't do Game of Thrones, I can't do Lord of the Rings type of stuff because it's just too much fantasy.
1:15:16
SPEAKER_02: Lord of the Rings pissed me to sleep.
1:15:18
SPEAKER_00: It it I need some kind of basis of reality, which is why why I like superhero stuff, because there's like real world, and then what if something fantastical happened?
1:15:25
SPEAKER_00: You know, that's why I could do the magicians, because it takes place in the real world, and then Scathon's out he's a magician.
1:15:30
SPEAKER_00: Same thing for like Harry Potter.
1:15:31
SPEAKER_00: Yes.
1:15:32
SPEAKER_00: Um, I can do that because it's like you're following somebody from our world into another type of world.
1:15:37
SPEAKER_00: That makes sense, yeah.
1:15:38
SPEAKER_00: Adjacent to it.
1:15:39
SPEAKER_02: But I mean, I watched Game of Thrones.
1:15:42
SPEAKER_02: Um I don't, I'm not one of those, like, oh my god, that was the best show ever.
1:15:46
SPEAKER_02: I loved it.
1:15:47
SPEAKER_02: I it took a while for me to finally get into it, and then I was like, okay, I'm still like can't keep everybody straight.
1:15:54
SPEAKER_02: Like, I need one of those charts with the red string in order to figure out who's who and House of What and Winter is coming from where.
1:16:03
SPEAKER_02: I don't know, but like, but I did watch it.
1:16:06
SPEAKER_02: Um, and now House of Dragon, and I'm just like, meh, if I watch it, I watch it.
1:16:10
SPEAKER_02: If I don't, I don't.
1:16:11
SPEAKER_00: But um I tend to like things that like that, like I said, and also things that if they are horror or fantasy, it's something that is kind of almost metaphorical for the real world.
1:16:23
SPEAKER_04: Okay.
1:16:24
SPEAKER_00: Um, so like if you look like Buffy, Buffy's like this metaphor for like growing up, coming into your own power, you know, and and sure it is for with female empowerment, but it's just in general, you know, just finding your strengths and finding your strengths in your loved ones and you know, in your community kind of thing, and and coming into your own type of stuff.
1:16:43
SPEAKER_00: So I like that.
1:16:44
SPEAKER_00: I like that aspect of those kind of things.
1:16:46
SPEAKER_00: When you look, when you can look at it from different angles, you can look at it as just the story that it is, or you can go, let's dive a little deeper and see what does this mean, or what does you know.
1:16:54
SPEAKER_00: I like to see how you know it can inspire people to think outside the box a little bit, you know.
1:16:59
SPEAKER_00: And I kind of like that kind of stuff too.
1:17:01
SPEAKER_00: Same thing for some horror and some psychological stuff, like that's that's what I like too.
1:17:06
SPEAKER_00: The psychological kind of like um the Baba Duke.
1:17:09
SPEAKER_00: If you want to look at that, have you ever seen that?
1:17:11
SPEAKER_02: I have, and apparently I have the fingers of the Baba Duke.
1:17:14
SPEAKER_00: So I don't know, but uh I don't know.
1:17:16
SPEAKER_00: Have you ever seen it, Agnes?
1:17:17
SPEAKER_02: No, okay.
1:17:19
SPEAKER_00: So I I still get freaked out by horror, don't get me wrong.
1:17:22
SPEAKER_00: So, like when my friends put this on, I was like, I am getting really uncomfortable because it made me very uncomfortable because like you could just feel it the way it was made, you know.
1:17:28
SPEAKER_00: It's just like this is very uncomfortable.
1:17:30
SPEAKER_00: Yes, um, so I kind of I sometimes I'll do this.
1:17:33
SPEAKER_00: Like, if I'm getting really uncomfortable and anxious about watching something, but I I do still want to see it because they want me to see it for some reason.
1:17:40
SPEAKER_00: I will go into Wikipedia and read the entire plot of what's going to happen.
1:17:45
SPEAKER_00: So that I'm still kind of upset by it, but it's not as upsetting, you know.
1:17:48
SPEAKER_00: It's like okay, kind of spoiled myself for it, but I still like okay, okay, I can watch this now.
1:17:53
SPEAKER_00: And then I can see it.
1:17:53
SPEAKER_00: I'm like, ooh, it's still upsetting, but it's not as traumatizing as it could be.
1:17:58
SPEAKER_06: You got petty you yeah, you've taken a little inoculation towards it.
1:18:02
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and it's like so like the Babadook is it's a psychological thriller.
1:18:07
SPEAKER_00: You think it's about this monster, and it is, but um, it's about this woman who is pregnant and on her way to the hospital to give birth with her husband, you know, they get into a car wreck, the husband dies in the car wreck, the the baby is born, and he's got some developmental issues, most likely because of the car wreck, and and it jumps forward like five years or so, and the woman is still depressed, she lost her husband, you know, now she's raising this kid that's special needs.
1:18:38
SPEAKER_00: Um, and uh he was just kind of acting out all the time because he doesn't know what he wants and whatever, and she's freaking out.
1:18:43
SPEAKER_00: And one day, this little book called Mr.
1:18:46
SPEAKER_00: Babaduok shows up on the kid's shelf.
1:18:48
SPEAKER_00: And you know, he's she's like, go pick out a book, we'll read this book.
1:18:51
SPEAKER_00: So he picks out the Mr.
1:18:52
SPEAKER_00: Babaduk.
1:18:52
SPEAKER_00: She's like, What's this?
1:18:53
SPEAKER_00: And he's like, It was on the shelf.
1:18:55
SPEAKER_00: She's like, I don't know what this book is, but okay.
1:18:57
SPEAKER_00: She's reading it, and it starts off kind of normal, and it's like Mr.
1:19:00
SPEAKER_00: Babaduok, this, blah, blah, blah, you know, and then it kind of gets dark as it goes on.
1:19:04
SPEAKER_00: She's like, I don't like this book.
1:19:05
SPEAKER_00: Like she closes it and he goes, But I want to read the end.
1:19:07
SPEAKER_00: She's like, No, we're we're gonna get another book.
1:19:09
SPEAKER_00: Like, and so he keeps wanting to read this book, and then eventually she's like, I don't like this.
1:19:13
SPEAKER_00: So she kind of looks at it and it's darker than it was before, and she's like, What's going on?
1:19:18
SPEAKER_00: So she tries to throw the book away, and then it shows up and it says, Don't try to throw me away.
1:19:23
SPEAKER_00: Something like that.
1:19:24
SPEAKER_00: She's like, What?
1:19:24
SPEAKER_00: And so she burns the book and then it shows back up on her front door, and it's like, You can't ignore me, you know, that kind of thing.
1:19:31
SPEAKER_00: And it just keeps getting worse and worse and like evil looking in the pictures and whatnot.
1:19:36
SPEAKER_00: And so she's like, Something's going on, and she's freaking out, she's getting a little paranoid.
1:19:41
SPEAKER_00: She likes she's washing her dishes, she looks out the window, and she sees like she's got people watching TV across.
1:19:48
SPEAKER_00: It's B-A-B-A-D-O-O-K.
1:19:52
SPEAKER_06: Close enough, yeah.
1:19:53
SPEAKER_06: I can remember.
1:19:54
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, okay.
1:19:55
SPEAKER_00: But um uh she looks across the way at her like neighbors watching TV, you know, sitting out and behind them in the shadows, she sees Mr.
1:20:02
SPEAKER_00: Bobadook.
1:20:03
SPEAKER_00: She kind of glances up and you see it like fat.
1:20:05
SPEAKER_00: She's like, wait, what did I just see?
1:20:06
SPEAKER_00: And it's not there anymore.
1:20:07
SPEAKER_00: And then she's like, I am freaking out.
1:20:09
SPEAKER_00: And the book keeps showing back up.
1:20:10
SPEAKER_00: She decides to go to the police, and the police are like, What?
1:20:13
SPEAKER_00: She's looking nuts.
1:20:14
SPEAKER_00: She's like, There's a thing, and it keeps coming back.
1:20:16
SPEAKER_00: They're like, Okay, hold on, let me help you.
1:20:17
SPEAKER_00: And he kind of turns and she and he turns.
1:20:19
SPEAKER_00: She sees the entire outfit of the Bobadook like hanging up behind him.
1:20:23
SPEAKER_00: She's like, She's like, I um, uh, he's like, Can I help you now, miss?
1:20:26
SPEAKER_00: And he's she's like, No, no, no, no.
1:20:28
SPEAKER_00: You she's like, I can't trust them because he must be a part of this, and so it's making her really paranoid.
1:20:33
SPEAKER_06: And I'm heavy, like a little bit.
1:20:35
SPEAKER_06: I know it's screwed up.
1:20:38
SPEAKER_00: It's let me.
1:20:38
SPEAKER_00: I'm just gonna tell you what it is a metaphor for for psychological health for depression.
1:20:43
SPEAKER_00: It's all a metaphor, the entire thing.
1:20:45
SPEAKER_00: And you figure it out by the end, like, oh, that's what this is, you know.
1:20:49
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but I'm not gonna tell you how it ends and how she faces the Babadook.
1:20:52
SPEAKER_00: But yeah, but they but they do the the whole movie does a really good job of making you kind of feel her like the anxiety, yeah, and the paranoia and just the loneliness, you know, the isolation, and um and your her anxiety because of the kid and because of what's going on with this, and how she misses her husband, and how she feels alone in the world, and it just keeps building more and more.
1:21:14
SPEAKER_00: And then finally at the end, you're like, Oh, oh, oh, and it it's more hopeful in the end.
1:21:21
SPEAKER_00: It's not wrapped up in a tiny bow, but it's more hopeful.
1:21:25
SPEAKER_06: Okay.
1:21:26
SPEAKER_02: When Agnes and I did a guest spot on her her friends podcast.
1:21:32
SPEAKER_06: I like the way you did the friends.
1:21:34
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, because of something you said on that podcast.
1:21:37
SPEAKER_02: But anyway, and I gave her I happen to you were talking about my friend, and I was like, but that's your friend, and anyway.
1:21:43
SPEAKER_02: Oh, that friend.
1:21:45
SPEAKER_02: So anyway, so I ended up giving her the finger, you know, like a happy little middle finger as we were recording, and they're like, Oh my god, you have such long fingers, like the Babaduke, and I'm like, Okay, thanks.
1:22:01
SPEAKER_00: Like, I don't I don't see it, but okay.
1:22:04
SPEAKER_06: I don't know, and maybe the angle you were at that point, because it's sometimes my fingers look a little thinner and long, like well, it could have been like eh or something, you know.
1:22:12
SPEAKER_00: You know, it's kind of like that.
1:22:14
SPEAKER_03: Okay, yeah.
1:22:15
SPEAKER_06: I don't we go back to recording and see how that looked.
1:22:18
SPEAKER_06: I'm gonna go back and listen to what's the recording.
1:22:20
SPEAKER_02: But and he put he put a clip of the Baba Duke in it, too.
1:22:24
SPEAKER_02: I didn't finish the you didn't catch it.
1:22:26
SPEAKER_06: Well, I didn't get a chance to finish it.
1:22:27
SPEAKER_06: I got like halfway through and I got a chance to yeah.
1:22:30
SPEAKER_06: I that was the first time I um A heard myself on the podcast, and B, first time I saw myself.
1:22:39
SPEAKER_06: She doesn't listen to our podcast.
1:22:40
SPEAKER_06: I don't listen to our podcast.
1:22:42
SPEAKER_06: I have a huge aversion to my voice.
1:22:45
SPEAKER_06: We've been doing this for almost five years.
1:22:48
SPEAKER_02: Thank you.
1:22:48
SPEAKER_02: Thank you.
1:22:49
SPEAKER_02: We've been doing this for almost five years.
1:22:51
SPEAKER_01: Oh wow.
1:22:52
SPEAKER_02: And she the first time she heard her voice on a recording is on somebody else's.
1:23:00
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, because I was driving and they gave us a little shout-out and they had a clip of our they took a clip from our show and put it in their show.
1:23:07
SPEAKER_06: And I wasn't expecting it.
1:23:08
SPEAKER_06: Oh well.
1:23:09
SPEAKER_06: Oh, wait, oh my god.
1:23:11
SPEAKER_02: And then I believe the first time you actually listened, was it on Mama D when we went on Mama D show?
1:23:17
SPEAKER_06: Yes.
1:23:18
SPEAKER_02: That was the first time you actually listened to a podcast that included yourself, not just a clip that caught you off guard in the car.
1:23:25
SPEAKER_06: Yes.
1:23:26
SPEAKER_02: And then when they posted the other guys posted their video, you watched it because I asked you to watch it to see something very hard.
1:23:38
SPEAKER_02: She does not listen to Assassin's Sips, she has never heard an episode of Assassin's Sips.
1:23:42
SPEAKER_00: Oh, that makes me sad.
1:23:44
SPEAKER_06: See, I just I mean, it's not because I I love us, I love what we do.
1:23:48
SPEAKER_06: I love, I think we're hysterical.
1:23:50
SPEAKER_06: I think I'm funny as fuck.
1:23:52
SPEAKER_06: But I just listening to my voice, it's just it's not how I think I it's like everyone goes through it.
1:23:59
SPEAKER_06: You like you're like, oh, that sounds so different.
1:24:02
SPEAKER_06: And I'm like, nope, can't do it, won't do it.
1:24:04
SPEAKER_06: Nope, sorry.
1:24:04
SPEAKER_00: So well, I I get what you're saying.
1:24:06
SPEAKER_00: Like, I when I I used to record videos all the time as a kid, and like, you know, I would do stuff, and so when I would hear bombs, like, I hate this, I hate my voice, I hate it, I hate it.
1:24:14
SPEAKER_00: And then as I got older and I did more theater and I kind of enunciated more and just got better at speaking, and I, you know, did some like voice and diction classes and all that stuff.
1:24:25
SPEAKER_00: Oh, because I'm in the south, and you know, I grew up in Mississippi, and that's where I'm where I'm at right now.
1:24:31
SPEAKER_06: So there's no addiction at all.
1:24:33
SPEAKER_02: No, there's no enunciation, there's a lot of draw, and there's a lot of whang and you know, but also like we grew up in New York City, so you know, the coffee and uh and I don't, and it's so funny.
1:24:44
SPEAKER_06: I realized I listening to myself now, I don't hear a New York accent.
1:24:54
SPEAKER_06: Now that I I live here and people like, oh, yeah, definitely not from here.
1:24:57
SPEAKER_06: I'm like, yeah, I'm from New York.
1:24:58
SPEAKER_06: They're like, Oh, yeah, I can tell.
1:25:00
SPEAKER_06: But listening to myself, I don't hear the same New York accent that I hear.
1:25:05
SPEAKER_06: And see, I can hear it.
1:25:06
SPEAKER_00: I can hear that, but it's because it's not my accent from where I'm from.
1:25:10
SPEAKER_00: And I'm sure you can hear some country in mine a little bit.
1:25:13
SPEAKER_04: But it's not the same, yes.
1:25:14
SPEAKER_04: I do hear it.
1:25:15
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I I don't hear it normally, but I'm like, oh, you know, especially when I get excited or if I'm drinking, it really comes out.
1:25:21
SPEAKER_00: You know, and so I'm like, oh, they're like, oh yeah, that's where you're from, you know.
1:25:25
SPEAKER_00: And depending on where you go, people really like it or people really hate it, you know.
1:25:29
SPEAKER_00: So I go to California, they love southern accents in California.
1:25:32
SPEAKER_00: Do they?
1:25:33
SPEAKER_00: So they can they can totally hear my southern accent, but I, you know, to me, I'm saying they can hear my southern accent, and they're like, to me, they can hear my southern accent, you know, that's what they hear.
1:25:45
SPEAKER_05: Right.
1:25:46
SPEAKER_06: I hear like very yeah, in my head, it's totally different, but I'm like, I don't hear it.
1:25:52
SPEAKER_06: Like, I don't hear the New York when my mother was from Memphis, and granted, she lived in, she left Memphis when she was 17, so her accent obviously wasn't as deep, but there were always, I guess there was something that was still there, and I guess I picked it up.
1:26:07
SPEAKER_06: So Lisa says it's like a New York Southern accent.
1:26:11
SPEAKER_02: I was like, I don't know what that is, but I kind of there's a certain fusion going on.
1:26:15
SPEAKER_00: I have a few, I have a few, and there's yeah, just like with New York, there's different factions of accents depending on where you live or what kind of thing.
1:26:22
SPEAKER_00: Are you in Long Island?
1:26:23
SPEAKER_02: Are you in Staten Island?
1:26:24
SPEAKER_02: Are you in the Bronx or Queens?
1:26:26
SPEAKER_02: Like, yes, it's totally different.
1:26:28
SPEAKER_02: It's different, yeah.
1:26:29
SPEAKER_00: But they all sound similar, just there's a slight difference.
1:26:32
SPEAKER_05: You have to be there to know the difference.
1:26:34
SPEAKER_00: You know, that's kind of like when you I don't I've never been to England, but people are like people from the north or people from the south, or people from London, and people, you know, there's they all have to me it sounds the same, but to them they sound completely different, you know.
1:26:44
SPEAKER_02: Yes, yeah, yeah.
1:26:46
SPEAKER_02: I mean the first time I went to Vegas, and um this was this was in the 90s, and I went to the payphone so that I was because I was with my dad, so I went to the payphone so I could call my mom.
1:26:58
SPEAKER_02: This is like before cell phones, and no, you know, my mother was like, Okay, well just you know, call when you get there, just call collect.
1:27:06
SPEAKER_02: So, okay.
1:27:08
SPEAKER_02: And I remember being at the payphone bank to make the phone call, and as I'm talking to her, I like once I hung up, and it wasn't it wasn't a long call, it was just to make sure, like you know, my mother, we got there okay, okay.
1:27:21
SPEAKER_02: And as soon as I hung up the phone, the guy next to me looked at me, and this is like a man.
1:27:26
SPEAKER_02: I mean, I'm 16 years old, and this is a man, and he's like, You're from Brooklyn, aren't you?
1:27:31
SPEAKER_06: Like, not just New York, he said Brooklyn.
1:27:34
SPEAKER_02: I was like, Yeah, he's like, mm-hmm, I could I could hear it.
1:27:38
SPEAKER_02: And he woke up, I was like, No to sell.
1:27:42
SPEAKER_06: He wanted it known, but he didn't want to be too creepy, so he kind of like exited out.
1:27:46
SPEAKER_02: Well, it it was creepy enough that from that moment on I was like, okay, we need to fix this.
1:27:52
SPEAKER_02: And I was so self-conscious of how I spoke because I was like, I was here for three minutes in this elephant uh elevator, uh, phone bank next to this guy.
1:28:04
SPEAKER_02: And the fact that he just like looked over at me and was like, Oh, you're from Brooklyn, and I'm like, I don't like that.
1:28:10
SPEAKER_02: I don't like that at all.
1:28:12
SPEAKER_06: You told me this story before, but I got a new twist to it just now.
1:28:15
SPEAKER_06: What if he was from Brooklyn, but like with his protection?
1:28:19
SPEAKER_06: So he kind of like when he heard your voice, it was just like being home again.
1:28:23
SPEAKER_06: Ha.
1:28:25
SPEAKER_06: Okay.
1:28:27
SPEAKER_06: Okay.
1:28:27
SPEAKER_06: He was one, like, you know, one about, you know, from out Brooklyn.
1:28:31
SPEAKER_00: You can never go home again, but oh, that girl's from Brooklyn.
1:28:34
unknown: Yeah.
1:28:36
SPEAKER_06: I think in my head, he's like with its protection.
1:28:38
SPEAKER_06: And he couldn't never go back home.
1:28:39
SPEAKER_02: So he was just at like um the Sahara in in Vegas.
1:28:43
SPEAKER_02: Like he had to say something.
1:28:45
SPEAKER_02: He decided to hide out.
1:28:46
SPEAKER_06: But don't they always send them somewhere like totally different?
1:28:48
SPEAKER_02: Like Albuquerque, New Mexico, and like not to Las Vegas at a casino.
1:28:53
SPEAKER_06: I mean, maybe where all the mob people are.
1:28:56
SPEAKER_06: Look, maybe he was from maybe he where the tourists come.
1:28:59
SPEAKER_06: Like what people maybe he wasn't supposed to be there.
1:29:01
SPEAKER_06: How many times do you think I'm gonna go?
1:29:03
SPEAKER_06: Oh my god.
1:29:04
SPEAKER_06: That's okay.
1:29:04
SPEAKER_06: All right, all right.
1:29:05
SPEAKER_00: Anytime anybody brings up Witness Protection, I think of that movie My Blue Heaven.
1:29:08
SPEAKER_00: Did you ever see that movie?
1:29:09
SPEAKER_00: Yes, yes, every time years ago.
1:29:12
SPEAKER_02: I don't remember it, but yeah.
1:29:13
SPEAKER_06: Like Rick Moranis and Steve Martin.
1:29:15
SPEAKER_06: It's right over like Arizona and Nevada.
1:29:18
SPEAKER_06: Like he's probably somewhere in Arizona, somewhere.
1:29:21
SPEAKER_02: Okay.
1:29:22
SPEAKER_02: All right.
1:29:22
SPEAKER_02: We'll go with that.
1:29:24
SPEAKER_02: In my head, yeah.
1:29:25
SPEAKER_02: All right.
1:29:26
SPEAKER_02: So whatever happened to the guy from the phone bank in Las Vegas at the Sahara Hotel.
1:29:32
SPEAKER_02: Send us a text.
1:29:33
SPEAKER_00: Well, you and email something.
1:29:36
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
1:29:37
SPEAKER_00: Yes.
1:29:37
SPEAKER_02: Assassin's at Gmail.
1:29:38
SPEAKER_02: You know, just let us know.
1:29:40
SPEAKER_02: Yes, that's the situation.
1:29:41
SPEAKER_02: Don't look at me.
1:29:42
SPEAKER_02: Delete this.
1:29:43
SPEAKER_02: This email will self-destruct.
1:29:45
SPEAKER_06: We would totally delete this entire episode of necessary.
1:29:47
SPEAKER_06: It was something juicy.
1:29:49
SPEAKER_00: I mean, I well, you didn't like describe the guy.
1:29:51
SPEAKER_06: You just said it was like uh I don't remember even what he looks like.
1:29:54
SPEAKER_06: Okay, so it's safe.
1:29:55
SPEAKER_06: We could just delete this portion of the of the F I think we're all.
1:29:58
SPEAKER_02: If you went to my door right now and rang my bell, I would never remember that that was him.
1:30:04
SPEAKER_06: See, you're safe, dude.
1:30:05
SPEAKER_06: Let us know.
1:30:05
SPEAKER_06: This is almost 30 years ago.
1:30:07
SPEAKER_06: How are you?
1:30:08
SPEAKER_02: This was like 1995, okay?
1:30:10
SPEAKER_02: No one ever and you and and the only reason I remember is because oh, was it 95?
1:30:17
SPEAKER_05: 1916, 99.
1:30:18
SPEAKER_02: When did Tupac get shot?
1:30:19
SPEAKER_02: Because it was literally that week.
1:30:21
SPEAKER_02: It was 95, right?
1:30:23
SPEAKER_00: Probably around that time.
1:30:24
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
1:30:24
SPEAKER_02: And then I remember we missed our flight back.
1:30:27
SPEAKER_02: And then I had like we got a next flight.
1:30:30
SPEAKER_02: We were on standby, we got a next flight, and I had to come straight from like JFK to the first day of school.
1:30:37
SPEAKER_02: Of like high school, the first day of high school.
1:30:39
SPEAKER_02: I had show it up.
1:30:40
SPEAKER_02: I had just gotten off the freaking plane after.
1:30:43
SPEAKER_00: He died in 96.
1:30:44
SPEAKER_00: So you're close.
1:30:46
SPEAKER_02: Okay.
1:30:47
SPEAKER_02: But it was like that week, and it was then it was like the first day of school that I remember getting off the plane and going straight to the case.
1:30:57
SPEAKER_02: You you've met my father.
1:30:59
SPEAKER_02: Okay, good point.
1:30:59
SPEAKER_02: We didn't take a day off.
1:31:01
unknown: Okay.
1:31:02
unknown: Yeah.
1:31:02
SPEAKER_00: Our family we were always like, if you if you traveled, you get you get a buffer day.
1:31:06
SPEAKER_00: That's what we always do.
1:31:07
SPEAKER_00: We did a buffer day, like you had to come home and decompress and get your stuff unpacked and get ready for the next day.
1:31:14
SPEAKER_00: So you wouldn't just come home like on a Sunday and go back direct to work or school on Monday.
1:31:18
SPEAKER_00: You would go back on Tuesday.
1:31:20
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no, no.
1:31:23
SPEAKER_02: Well, we we should have flown back.
1:31:25
SPEAKER_02: I guess we would have been back sooner, but then we missed the flight.
1:31:28
SPEAKER_02: So my father was like, Oh, well, we'll just take the cab right to the school.
1:31:34
SPEAKER_00: Oh my god.
1:31:35
SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
1:31:36
SPEAKER_02: So we we were up all night and then took I took the cab.
1:31:39
SPEAKER_02: Well, I mean, with him, he dropped me off at school.
1:31:43
SPEAKER_02: So that was not.
1:31:46
SPEAKER_06: Listen, I love your dad, but I would totally make him pay for that.
1:31:49
SPEAKER_00: You would have been root useless at school that day.
1:31:51
SPEAKER_00: Like just not gonna absorb anything.
1:31:56
SPEAKER_02: Right, which was like you got your schedule and and see what you need and see what you're doing.
1:32:00
SPEAKER_02: That's all your class, and that was it.
1:32:03
SPEAKER_06: Who's in your class?
1:32:04
SPEAKER_06: Which class?
1:32:04
SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
1:32:05
SPEAKER_06: But I'm gonna say there was like six hundred oh my god.
1:32:08
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and you're gonna make a really horrible first impression with your teachers being all sleepy and like you know, they would probably half asleep too.
1:32:14
SPEAKER_06: Well, you know, you would love it over here because they're like if you there's like doing um like the fall, they're like in the winter, like hunting and harvesting.
1:32:24
SPEAKER_06: They have like days that allowed it for the kids to be out of school.
1:32:28
SPEAKER_00: Oh, we do that too.
1:32:29
SPEAKER_06: And I live in and and I live in an urban area.
1:32:32
SPEAKER_06: I call I say urban because it's not urban.
1:32:34
SPEAKER_06: And I'm like, I'm like, who's hunting here?
1:32:37
SPEAKER_06: Who's who's who's harvesting here?
1:32:40
SPEAKER_06: I mean, yeah, we do have farms around the corner though.
1:32:43
SPEAKER_06: Anyway, it's the urban area.
1:32:45
SPEAKER_06: And walk around, there's a farm.
1:32:47
SPEAKER_06: So your dad, I don't know how your dad would have like lived with this.
1:32:50
SPEAKER_02: Like, wait, yeah, but if that was the thing, then that would have been the thing.
1:32:54
SPEAKER_06: I think he would have been still like, what do you mean they can take off?
1:32:57
SPEAKER_06: What do you mean that's no?
1:33:00
SPEAKER_00: Oh, we had uh fair days here.
1:33:02
SPEAKER_00: We had a it's called the Mid South Fair, and so they had to do that for like a week, and each school had a fair day in the area, so you got off, so you could go to the fair that day.
1:33:12
SPEAKER_06: Oh, that's nice.
1:33:13
SPEAKER_06: And I do know they they do take field day very serious down south.
1:33:16
SPEAKER_00: Like it is like oh, yeah, for grade school for sure.
1:33:19
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, it's like a carnival you've never been to.
1:33:21
SPEAKER_00: I was like, Oh, we didn't do carnival, we field day was just events that you had to like compete in with each other for a little bit of both.
1:33:30
SPEAKER_06: It was like we had like the the like right, we had like the whole bunch I lived down there for one year, like three-legged races, and like it's really silly events, not really like big ones, right?
1:33:39
SPEAKER_00: And they also had like the kind of candies and the popcorn, and then yeah, they did have that, they did have some kind of vendor type thing, but it really wasn't there weren't like rides or anything.
1:33:48
SPEAKER_00: No, but for a sneaker, they had slipping slides, they would do slipping slides.
1:33:52
SPEAKER_02: Yes, let me tell you, it was like um snow, sleet, hell, high water.
1:33:57
SPEAKER_02: We were going to school unless we were dying, we went to school.
1:34:02
SPEAKER_06: Well, like I remember we get like if it's like if it was like a really big game, and the people if you just like it like there were teachers that weren't coming into school, it was like a really, really big game.
1:34:12
SPEAKER_02: My my father would have been like, I guess you're teaching the class that day.
1:34:17
SPEAKER_00: Oh, I remember in like 1990 there was this like prediction because we were near a fault line in Memphis, right?
1:34:24
SPEAKER_00: So I'm that's where I'm next to.
1:34:26
SPEAKER_00: And um, so we were, you know, there was 1990, there was gonna be this like earthquake.
1:34:32
SPEAKER_00: And they somebody predicted it and was like, oh my gosh, and a lot of kids people weren't allowing their kids to go to school that day.
1:34:37
SPEAKER_00: They wanted to be home because they were freaking out.
1:34:40
SPEAKER_00: And I had to go to school.
1:34:41
SPEAKER_00: Like my mom's like, no, you're going to school.
1:34:42
SPEAKER_00: There's not gonna be an earthquake, you know.
1:34:44
SPEAKER_00: And I remember walking up and like, oh, people are getting mad because more people were coming to class because the fewer people that came to class, the more likely class was going to be canceled, cancelled, right?
1:34:53
SPEAKER_00: And so, like, too many people showed up and like, oh, we still have to have school, and like, and no earthquake happened.
1:34:57
SPEAKER_06: So disappointing.
1:34:59
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I know.
1:34:59
SPEAKER_00: Like, oh, we're so sad nothing got destroyed.
1:35:01
SPEAKER_06: Oh, and it's so funny because I almost when I before I moved to Wisconsin, I was almost going to move to South Haven.
1:35:10
SPEAKER_06: Um Connecticut.
1:35:11
SPEAKER_06: Uh, that's my phone.
1:35:12
SPEAKER_06: Oh, in uh Mississippi.
1:35:13
SPEAKER_00: Oh, it's like by the border of and so there's a neighborhood in Memphis called Whitehaven, and it used to be a suburb and it got annexed by Memphis, but it's still called White Haven.
1:35:23
SPEAKER_00: And so then they made South Haven just across the border south of White Haven.
1:35:29
SPEAKER_00: But it's all one word, it's not South Haven, it's South Haven.
1:35:32
SPEAKER_06: Okay, one H.
1:35:33
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
1:35:34
SPEAKER_06: Okay.
1:35:34
SPEAKER_06: And then I have family in Holly Springs.
1:35:37
SPEAKER_06: I gotta go back down there.
1:35:38
SPEAKER_06: So yeah.
1:35:39
SPEAKER_00: If you do, you need to drop a line.
1:35:40
SPEAKER_06: Well, I'm gonna jump on down here.
1:35:43
SPEAKER_06: Let's get it on.
1:35:44
SPEAKER_06: Take me with you.
1:35:46
SPEAKER_06: Come on, come on down.
1:35:48
SPEAKER_06: Do it, come on down, Yana.
1:35:49
SPEAKER_06: Here I need to get the hell up out of here.
1:35:54
SPEAKER_06: Fun times.
1:35:55
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's awesome.
1:35:57
SPEAKER_02: Um, we we we are gonna plan a game night, whether it's cards against humanity or like have you ever done the Jackbox games?
1:36:04
SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah, those are fun.
1:36:05
SPEAKER_06: Those are fun.
1:36:06
SPEAKER_06: I just want I need it highly inappropriate.
1:36:08
SPEAKER_06: That's all I need.
1:36:09
SPEAKER_02: Oh, depending on which game you pick and who you play with, then yes.
1:36:13
SPEAKER_02: And yes.
1:36:14
SPEAKER_02: Um, have you ever do you remember like you don't know Jack?
1:36:17
SPEAKER_02: Those games.
1:36:18
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's kind of like that.
1:36:19
SPEAKER_00: That's what Jackbox is.
1:36:21
SPEAKER_00: It's the same maker, but different categories and types of games.
1:36:25
SPEAKER_06: Okay, I'm down.
1:36:26
SPEAKER_06: I'm down.
1:36:27
SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
1:36:30
SPEAKER_02: Okay.
1:36:31
SPEAKER_02: We're gonna have to do one of those.
1:36:32
SPEAKER_02: It might it might have to be like a subscription feed episode.
1:36:37
SPEAKER_06: Nice.
1:36:41
SPEAKER_02: God only knows, especially if it's like cards against humanity.
1:36:44
SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
1:36:45
SPEAKER_02: That's that's gonna be fun.
1:36:48
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, because some people get real that is an offensive game.
1:36:50
SPEAKER_00: It really is.
1:36:51
SPEAKER_00: If you're you know not part of it, you're like, hey, you know, like it's just a joke, guys.
1:36:55
SPEAKER_00: It's on the card.
1:36:55
SPEAKER_00: I didn't write it.
1:36:56
SPEAKER_02: I know the card didn't, it wasn't me.
1:36:59
SPEAKER_02: We we have a rule here.
1:37:00
SPEAKER_02: So, like, you know how when you play cards, like there's always like a wild card, or like the you know, the card that wins, right?
1:37:09
SPEAKER_02: So in our house, that's the AIDS card.
1:37:12
SPEAKER_02: And so, like, if you play the AIDS card, it's like AIDS always wins.
1:37:16
SPEAKER_02: AIDS always that's that's the rule.
1:37:19
SPEAKER_02: AIDS always wins.
1:37:23
SPEAKER_02: So, like, no matter who you're playing with, no matter what the black card says, if somebody throws down the AIDS card, like, okay, you win the round.
1:37:31
SPEAKER_02: And it's like the only thing that comes close to following it is like the big black dick.
1:37:39
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I mean, and then in the new box, there's like the biggest blackest dick.
1:37:44
SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah.
1:37:45
SPEAKER_02: That might actually supersede the big black dick.
1:37:48
SPEAKER_06: I mean, okay.
1:37:51
SPEAKER_06: Um I'm ready to play whenever you are.
1:37:54
SPEAKER_06: Okay.
1:37:56
SPEAKER_06: We played the last time you were here, right?
1:37:58
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, but I didn't get any black dicks.
1:38:00
SPEAKER_06: Okay, I didn't get any dicks.
1:38:02
SPEAKER_01: No dicks for me.
1:38:04
SPEAKER_02: I got no dicks.
1:38:05
SPEAKER_02: And I'm browning too.
1:38:08
SPEAKER_02: You want to redo?
1:38:09
SPEAKER_02: Okay.
1:38:10
SPEAKER_02: You have to come back, you have to go the fuck back over here.
1:38:12
SPEAKER_02: You just stop playing around and racine.
1:38:14
SPEAKER_02: Nobody cares.
1:38:16
SPEAKER_02: I mean, I I I living here has taken 10 years off.
1:38:20
SPEAKER_02: I don't want to hear it.
1:38:21
SPEAKER_02: They think I'm like, they're like, oh, you're in my 30s.
1:38:24
SPEAKER_04: I was like, oh god, I love you.
1:38:26
SPEAKER_02: You don't leave your house enough for that to matter.
1:38:28
SPEAKER_06: So I don't care.
1:38:29
SPEAKER_06: I mean, it does like when I walk out the house, if they think I'm in my 30s.
1:38:32
SPEAKER_06: Yes, I don't care if it's only for 30 seconds.
1:38:34
SPEAKER_06: I'm taking it.
1:38:35
SPEAKER_06: I love it.
1:38:36
SPEAKER_00: I've getting that a few times.
1:38:37
SPEAKER_00: I'm like, but I'm also like an indoor kid, so like I didn't get a lot of sun exposure to my so my wrinkles aren't showing up as much now.
1:38:44
SPEAKER_00: But now the gray hairs are coming in, and and I'm like, oh now it's starting.
1:38:48
SPEAKER_00: I'm like, I gotta color this crap because I want to keep looking at John as I can for as long as I can.
1:38:53
SPEAKER_00: I just I haven't lived enough life yet, you know.
1:38:55
SPEAKER_06: I'm not there yet.
1:38:56
SPEAKER_06: I I'm trying to get more silver.
1:38:59
SPEAKER_06: I'm thinking about just dyeing my hair.
1:39:01
SPEAKER_00: I want I think I want to, yeah, I would rather like it all go at one time than just strands, because then it kind of looks like my mom would call it witchy, you know what I mean?
1:39:09
SPEAKER_00: Just like silvery strands, and just kind of looks like you know, just I don't know.
1:39:13
SPEAKER_06: I'm looking for that my little stripe.
1:39:14
SPEAKER_06: I want my stripe.
1:39:15
SPEAKER_00: I would love a stripe, that would be cool.
1:39:16
SPEAKER_06: But I want a stripe, and I haven't, and I'm getting like a little bit, like a little patchy here, but yeah, not enough for my liking.
1:39:22
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's it's too random and maybe if you move back here and you lose those 10 years, you'll get it.
1:39:30
SPEAKER_02: Um I you know, risk your health.
1:39:32
SPEAKER_00: It's still fucked.
1:39:34
SPEAKER_02: No, no, no.
1:39:35
SPEAKER_02: It's not it's not her health, it's it's her vanity.
1:39:39
SPEAKER_02: It's it's pure it's pure it's pure vanity.
1:39:41
SPEAKER_02: Because she thinks that compared to the other people in the Midwest, she looks better.
1:39:45
SPEAKER_05: And she's just they think I look younger.
1:39:48
SPEAKER_00: Well, they have you not seen that stuff like on TikTok where they're talking about how like people, millennials especially, like look a lot younger than Gen Z does because for some reason, I don't know, but you know I was at my daughter's high school when she was when she was in high school, and I talk about how long she's been in high school, but I remember I was um pulling out, and I was there was a whole bunch of girls in cheaters' outfits, and one of the girls she just looked old, not older, you know.
1:40:17
SPEAKER_06: Some girls no, some people look older and more mature.
1:40:19
SPEAKER_06: She just looked old.
1:40:20
SPEAKER_00: She kind of looks like uh Amy Sederis from like Stranger with the Candy.
1:40:24
SPEAKER_06: Yes, yes, and I was just like, oh and Chris, oh yeah, that's she's like, oh, that's a cheer captain.
1:40:30
SPEAKER_06: I was just like, she's in high school.
1:40:32
SPEAKER_00: Oh, she better be the damn captain how old she is.
1:40:36
SPEAKER_06: She should have I was just like, she's in high school.
1:40:39
SPEAKER_06: She's like, yeah.
1:40:39
SPEAKER_06: I was like, I thought what might one of the bombs I thought was an event to like uh no, I was so when I look at these kids, I'm like, yeah, I'm in my 40s.
1:40:50
SPEAKER_06: And there's a reason we kind of look better than some of the younger kids, because I don't I don't know.
1:40:54
SPEAKER_06: We're still for the generation where we put like baby oil and on top of the roof getting sun tans.
1:41:00
SPEAKER_06: So I don't understand how we're still looking better than some of these young kids that know about sun health.
1:41:05
SPEAKER_06: I don't get it.
1:41:06
SPEAKER_00: I you know, I think it's well, it's also a lack of like our I feel like our parents I want to say they weren't like hover, you know, they weren't helicopter because they weren't, because we were free range a little bit, but they were more strict on other things that parents nowadays aren't.
1:41:24
SPEAKER_00: It's like they're opposites and what they are oh what they what and they do care about, yeah.
1:41:28
SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
1:41:29
SPEAKER_00: So like I think that I don't know, um we grew up in an era where it's like we focused a little bit more on certain stuff and they're focused on nutrition now, but it's like it this your whole generation of kids that just didn't do that with I know we had meals, like we had home cooked meals every day.
1:41:46
SPEAKER_02: Yes, and it wasn't as much fast food, it wasn't at all, you know, and even the home cooked meals was made from better ingredients than what we're probably serving now, you know, the way the food supply is.
1:41:58
SPEAKER_00: So and then people are trying to turn that around now, you know.
1:42:02
SPEAKER_00: Like, you know, they still do like those home, like those HelloFresh or you know, home chef type things where you get it.
1:42:07
SPEAKER_06: But it's so expensive to be healthy now.
1:42:09
SPEAKER_06: It's kind of ridiculous.
1:42:10
SPEAKER_06: Like you have to be rich just to take care of yourself.
1:42:13
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I hate it.
1:42:15
SPEAKER_00: Like, why are you making basic health elite?
1:42:17
SPEAKER_00: I don't get it.
1:42:18
SPEAKER_00: I don't why can't we just I mean we have Aldi at least?
1:42:21
SPEAKER_06: We have Aldi, which is all isn't all this amazing.
1:42:24
SPEAKER_00: I mean, I keep forgetting how awesome, I keep forgetting to go to Aldi.
1:42:27
SPEAKER_00: It's a little out of the way for me, but I keep going forgetting to go for like at least for like produce and for like some basic stuff, you know.
1:42:35
SPEAKER_00: There's certain things you want, you always want like a certain name brand of certain products because those are just better.
1:42:41
SPEAKER_00: It just are because you grew up with them or you're just used to them.
1:42:43
SPEAKER_00: And like, I'm not gonna get store brand chicken little soup, I'm gonna get Campbell's, you know what I mean.
1:42:48
SPEAKER_00: Like, I'm not gonna get toastettes, I'm gonna get Pop Tarts, you know, like right.
1:42:52
SPEAKER_06: That's certain thing, but they do they do sell Hellman's mayonnaise.
1:42:56
SPEAKER_06: I was like, oh, there's a couple of things, but with the Aldi's brands, some of the Aldi brands are better than the name brands, or I think all the same thing, honestly.
1:43:04
SPEAKER_01: Some of the name brands are salads, they have good salads there.
1:43:08
SPEAKER_01: They don't go bad so fast either.
1:43:10
SPEAKER_01: I go to Program and it they go bad like within a day.
1:43:13
SPEAKER_00: The next day, and even though it says it's gonna be a week, it's they're brown already.
1:43:16
SPEAKER_00: I'm like, What?
1:43:17
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, they're brown when you buy them, you have to go through it to find a good one the day off.
1:43:21
SPEAKER_00: And even if you do that, the next day it's brown.
1:43:23
SPEAKER_00: It's like, what the hell?
1:43:24
SPEAKER_00: Like because the hormones they put into grow the foods faster, so that way they're aging faster.
1:43:29
SPEAKER_00: Faster.
1:43:30
SPEAKER_00: So it's like, don't do that.
1:43:32
SPEAKER_00: That's why organic is the way to go, really.
1:43:33
SPEAKER_06: If you think about it, wait, I have to pay extra to grow it the way they used to grow it.
1:43:38
SPEAKER_06: Ah, I like take yep.
1:43:41
SPEAKER_00: Because it takes longer, it does, it takes longer, and there's more care involved.
1:43:44
SPEAKER_00: So I get that aspect in a way.
1:43:46
SPEAKER_06: I know I understand why, but we used to all but that's how we did it before.
1:43:50
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, that's how it was done before it didn't call it.
1:43:52
SPEAKER_06: You weren't charging us extra before.
1:43:54
SPEAKER_00: Well, it's like I used to smoke, I used to be a smoker, and so for the longest time we would smoke stuff like camel or marlboro or whatever, and then we went over to American spirits, which were all natural.
1:44:05
SPEAKER_00: They was just the tobacco.
1:44:06
SPEAKER_00: There weren't the added chemicals to make them more addictive or to make them burn faster.
1:44:10
SPEAKER_00: Right.
1:44:10
SPEAKER_00: And so when that happened, it became easier to not have to want to smoke as much because I didn't have those chemicals making them more addictive.
1:44:17
SPEAKER_00: Okay.
1:44:21
SPEAKER_00: More addictive buying them.
1:44:22
SPEAKER_00: And so, but they cost more.
1:44:24
SPEAKER_00: You know, it was like at the time, it was like five bucks for a pack of Marlboro, whereas American Spirit was like eight.
1:44:31
SPEAKER_00: And I was like, I'd rather pay for the American Spirits because I don't cough as much after I smoke them.
1:44:37
SPEAKER_00: Okay, you know, and I was like, my I wasn't as congested or whatever.
1:44:41
SPEAKER_00: And eventually I quit smoking altogether, but it helped that I was not on a chemically driven cigarette, you know, cigarette need.
1:44:48
SPEAKER_06: Okay.
1:44:49
SPEAKER_00: So, you know, that I I I I it it it balances out in a way, you know, I can't the good and the bad.
1:44:57
SPEAKER_00: Like, all right, well, this is better for me and it costs more, but in the long run, I'm gonna be happier with this.
1:45:03
SPEAKER_06: I'm gonna go ahead and just do it.
1:45:04
SPEAKER_06: You're like, I'm gonna do it.
1:45:05
SPEAKER_00: It's still better than buying fast food, so you know.
1:45:08
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, right.
1:45:09
SPEAKER_06: God, I want pineapple.
1:45:12
SPEAKER_06: And it's funny you mentioned I want pineapples.
1:45:14
SPEAKER_06: It's all about produce.
1:45:15
SPEAKER_06: I'm like, damn, I want a pineapple now.
1:45:16
SPEAKER_00: Oh, I have some cut.
1:45:17
SPEAKER_00: I sometimes I'll buy some stuff that's already pre-cut up just because I just don't feel like taking it home and cutting it.
1:45:22
SPEAKER_00: Um, so I have like I love cantaloupe, so I have cantaloupe in the fridge.
1:45:25
SPEAKER_00: I'll cut up like you know.
1:45:27
SPEAKER_06: I'm so jealous.
1:45:28
SPEAKER_06: I can't get a good, like some of the melons I can't get good up here because you know, it's it's that's not the same.
1:45:34
SPEAKER_06: Like, I can't.
1:45:35
SPEAKER_00: If you can go to those roadside places, if you're getting a watermelon or something, at least two fingers between the stripes, that's a really good ripe watermelon.
1:45:41
SPEAKER_06: Okay.
1:45:42
SPEAKER_06: Oh, two fingers between the stripes.
1:45:43
SPEAKER_06: Two fingers.
1:45:44
SPEAKER_06: I want to and I want a good honeydew.
1:45:46
SPEAKER_06: Have I had a good honeydew?
1:45:47
SPEAKER_06: Cause I love Tennessee.
1:45:48
SPEAKER_00: Um, I haven't had honeydew in a little while.
1:45:50
SPEAKER_00: Sometimes it's iffy for me, it just depends on how ripe it is.
1:45:52
SPEAKER_06: But once it but once if you get a right one, it's like woo-hoo! Life is my mother used to tell me about this honeydew ice cream she used to get when she was a kid.
1:46:00
SPEAKER_06: And obviously, that was a long time ago.
1:46:03
SPEAKER_06: Um, so now I kind of want to find a good honeydew and make a honeydew ice cream.
1:46:06
SPEAKER_06: But that's that's been my mission in life.
1:46:09
SPEAKER_00: Do you guys have uh bluebell ice cream?
1:46:13
SPEAKER_00: Where you're at?
1:46:14
SPEAKER_06: Bluebell.
1:46:15
SPEAKER_06: I haven't seen blue.
1:46:16
SPEAKER_06: I haven't seen Bluebell since I've been up here.
1:46:18
SPEAKER_06: I know Blue Bell.
1:46:19
SPEAKER_06: It's it's a brand, right?
1:46:20
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, yeah.
1:46:21
SPEAKER_00: But uh blue bunny and there's blue bell.
1:46:23
SPEAKER_06: I've seen blue bell.
1:46:24
SPEAKER_06: I don't see I haven't seen it up here.
1:46:26
SPEAKER_00: Okay, they have a really good banana pudding ice cream, and it has the wafers in it and everything.
1:46:32
SPEAKER_00: I'll cut up it.
1:46:33
SPEAKER_00: Oh, so like half wafers, not like cut up, but like broken in half.
1:46:37
SPEAKER_00: And they're so good.
1:46:38
SPEAKER_00: So if you ever get the chance, sometimes they'll put it out in the little pint size, but a lot of times it's like a little gallon, you know.
1:46:43
SPEAKER_06: Oh, I have to eat a whole you mean I have to eat a whole gallon.
1:46:46
SPEAKER_06: Oh, for shame.
1:46:47
SPEAKER_00: Check your check your grocery stores and check the different ones, and if they carry it, maybe you can say, Hey, can you get the uh banana?
1:46:54
SPEAKER_06: I'm going to try now.
1:46:55
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, banana pudding is really good.
1:46:57
SPEAKER_06: It's so exciting.
1:46:59
SPEAKER_00: They had one that's called Crazy Cookie Dough, and it's like it's like uh it's like ice cream cake, ice cream, like birthday cake ice cream with sugar cookie balls in it.
1:47:11
SPEAKER_00: But they're multicolored.
1:47:12
SPEAKER_02: I'm done.
1:47:12
SPEAKER_05: I think she just had to go rape my freezer now.
1:47:15
SPEAKER_05: Are you okay?
1:47:15
SPEAKER_05: And I can't.
1:47:16
SPEAKER_05: I have to be good.
1:47:17
SPEAKER_00: I yeah I know I had some ice cream, I finished it up last night.
1:47:21
SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
1:47:21
SPEAKER_00: Oh well.
1:47:22
SPEAKER_00: I've been eating on it for like the past couple weeks.
1:47:24
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I'll have to go see what's in my freezer.
1:47:27
SPEAKER_06: Well, I know what's not in mine, and I'm gonna have to just stay.
1:47:31
SPEAKER_02: There's probably cookies and cream in my freezer, and I think there's still some ice pops, so but uh yeah.
1:47:37
SPEAKER_06: I don't buy junk food, and then I regret it when I want some.
1:47:41
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, then you go overboard and you go and buy it at all, and then you're like, yeah.
1:47:45
SPEAKER_06: Sometimes, and then I get either that or just start cursing at myself, and like there's a there's a I need something sweet, yeah.
1:47:50
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
1:47:52
SPEAKER_06: As like Baba Duke, yeah.
1:47:55
SPEAKER_01: Well, that's what he does.
1:47:56
SPEAKER_00: He goes, Baba Duke, Duke, Duke.
1:47:58
SPEAKER_00: So that's how I that I I scream, cream, cream, you know.
1:48:06
SPEAKER_02: Okay, all right.
1:48:07
SPEAKER_06: Now that I'm talking about a move about depression, not I'm going to hell because now you're going to hell.
1:48:12
SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
1:48:13
SPEAKER_02: All right.
1:48:14
SPEAKER_02: Dustin, I want to say on behalf of both of us, thank you so much for coming and hanging out with us.
1:48:20
SPEAKER_02: And I really, really did have like a really good time.
1:48:23
SPEAKER_02: And if it wasn't that I'm gonna like pee my pants right now and need to go raid my freezer, I'm like, I could sit here for like another hour.
1:48:30
SPEAKER_00: Oh well, thank you again for having me.
1:48:32
SPEAKER_00: It was fun chat.
1:48:33
SPEAKER_00: I was yeah, nice little getaway for the Sunday afternoon.
1:48:37
SPEAKER_02: So good.
1:48:38
SPEAKER_02: And anytime you're up this way, you have a standing invitation.
1:48:42
SPEAKER_02: Please, you know, ring ring me up.
1:48:45
SPEAKER_02: Forget her.
1:48:46
SPEAKER_02: Nothing ever happens in Racine, and she'll just have to come here and hang out with us.
1:48:50
SPEAKER_06: Oh, next, oh, I'm gonna drag her down that like south of the Mason Dixon line.
1:48:56
SPEAKER_06: All right, I'm there.
1:48:57
SPEAKER_06: We're down here.
1:48:58
SPEAKER_06: Let's go in trouble.
1:49:00
SPEAKER_00: There's stuff to do.
1:49:01
SPEAKER_00: There's not a lot of stuff.
1:49:02
SPEAKER_00: There really is stuff to do.
1:49:04
SPEAKER_06: I'm in.
1:49:06
SPEAKER_06: I'm already in.
1:49:06
SPEAKER_06: You don't have to convince her.
1:49:08
SPEAKER_06: No, we don't have to convince her.
1:49:09
SPEAKER_06: She's living in a place of yes.
1:49:11
SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
1:49:11
SPEAKER_01: There we go.
1:49:12
SPEAKER_02: And uh, once we figure out how we're gonna do game night, I'm definitely letting you know.
1:49:17
SPEAKER_03: Okay.
1:49:17
SPEAKER_02: And uh yeah.
1:49:19
SPEAKER_02: Number one, I want to say totally off topic, but whatever.
1:49:24
SPEAKER_02: I don't care.
1:49:25
SPEAKER_02: I love watching your TikTok, so just please keep making it.
1:49:27
SPEAKER_00: Oh, oh yeah, totally.
1:49:29
SPEAKER_00: I'm actually gonna put up one in a few minutes.
1:49:31
SPEAKER_00: Actually, I have one set ready to go.
1:49:32
SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna have to drop it.
1:49:34
SPEAKER_02: So good.
1:49:35
SPEAKER_02: And please tell everyone who is listening where they can find you and you know, anything that you want to plug.
1:49:41
SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah, totally.
1:49:42
SPEAKER_00: Um, so yeah, you can listen to the rewatch recap.
1:49:44
SPEAKER_00: It's an audio only podcast, but like you guys, I put up the videos on TikTok and on Instagram, uh, where you can find um you can find us on TikTok, Instagram, and threads at the rewatch recap.
1:49:58
SPEAKER_00: Uh episodes drop every Monday.
1:50:00
SPEAKER_00: We recap a single season of a television show, episode by episode, then we go to another show, and then we go to another show.
1:50:06
SPEAKER_00: We might come back to a show.
1:50:08
SPEAKER_00: So uh there's always gonna be a variety of things to listen to, and I have a variety of co hosts these times.
1:50:13
SPEAKER_00: So um, if you want to you know reach out to me, you can reach out to DustinKenreadpod at gmail.com.
1:50:20
SPEAKER_00: And I'm also on at Dustin Canread on Instagram still doing a book club on there now.
1:50:25
SPEAKER_00: So if you check that out.
1:50:28
SPEAKER_02: Actually, I I have one other question that I wanted to ask you.
1:50:30
SPEAKER_00: Oh, what?
1:50:32
SPEAKER_02: Have you ever watched Lost?
1:50:34
SPEAKER_02: I know that that's a little bit like fancy.
1:50:36
SPEAKER_00: I have not because I I started it on the first.
1:50:40
SPEAKER_00: I started on the first episode, and then I kind of just didn't watch it.
1:50:44
SPEAKER_00: And then I got so apparently I kind of got behind on it, and then people got mad about it.
1:50:49
SPEAKER_03: Okay.
1:50:50
SPEAKER_00: And then people will get mad about it the next season.
1:50:52
SPEAKER_00: They get mad at it.
1:50:52
SPEAKER_00: I was like, this sounds like a very much a show I would not like, considering how much people are getting so mad about it.
1:50:59
SPEAKER_00: And and I've heard I already know how it ends.
1:51:01
SPEAKER_00: I already know a bunch of stuff.
1:51:03
SPEAKER_00: So like I was, I'm probably never gonna watch this, you know.
1:51:06
SPEAKER_00: And um, so I just kind of like, yeah, I just never did.
1:51:10
SPEAKER_00: I never watched it.
1:51:10
SPEAKER_00: I just because it was all over the place like they didn't know what they wanted to do.
1:51:14
SPEAKER_02: That's what I yeah, but there were a few seasons like that.
1:51:18
SPEAKER_00: There was no real game plan, yeah.
1:51:19
SPEAKER_00: It's kind of and it's the same, a lot of the same people created Once Upon a Time.
1:51:23
SPEAKER_06: And yeah, I loved Once Upon a Time.
1:51:25
SPEAKER_00: It also went off the rails like they didn't know what they wanted to do, but at least they had they got back on it.
1:51:30
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they get back on it.
1:51:31
SPEAKER_02: They started, yeah.
1:51:32
SPEAKER_02: It seemed like they started with the plan at least there.
1:51:34
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and then they were like, Oh, well, we didn't start with a plan to begin with.
1:51:37
SPEAKER_00: Well, most shows, even Ryan Murphy shows.
1:51:40
SPEAKER_00: Um, Ryan Murphy who did Glee and and um American Horror, American Horror Story, Niptuck, you know, and also he did Niptuck too.
1:51:48
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he did Niptuck.
1:51:49
SPEAKER_00: Um, so a lot of his shows go off the rails, they go crazy after a while because he is a one-season planner.
1:51:56
SPEAKER_00: He planned season one, and then it's like, what do we go from here?
1:51:58
SPEAKER_00: It's like you need a full story arc at least, like that you plan to do per season, at least the first few seasons, right?
1:52:05
SPEAKER_00: Don't just plan it out season one.
1:52:06
SPEAKER_00: You need to be like, and if it goes further, I want to do this, but this is where I'm gonna be for this season, right?
1:52:11
SPEAKER_00: And then have it be bookended where you can kind of close it out but leave options open.
1:52:15
SPEAKER_00: Like, people don't do that, they're always thinking, oh, let's do a cliphanger.
1:52:19
SPEAKER_00: Like, you might not get picked up.
1:52:20
SPEAKER_06: Don't do a cliphanger, don't do it, don't do it.
1:52:23
SPEAKER_00: Close it out, have options for things that could happen, but don't leave a clip hanger.
1:52:27
SPEAKER_00: Damn it.
1:52:28
SPEAKER_02: Right.
1:52:28
SPEAKER_02: Fucking yeah, well, we're just we're we're on season six now, and Agnes is like hate watching through every episode, every season.
1:52:36
SPEAKER_02: But the last like starting season four, she started to finally be like, okay, if I just get all that, yeah, then I'm like, okay, it's not so bad.
1:52:47
SPEAKER_02: So I'm just you know, we're we're almost to the end.
1:52:50
SPEAKER_02: So I'm I'm just really excited to see how she will react to the ending.
1:52:56
SPEAKER_02: Because I know that the ending is so divisive for so many people.
1:52:58
SPEAKER_02: It's like, oh, I loved it, I hated it, it's stupid, it doesn't make sense, it was this, it was that.
1:53:03
SPEAKER_02: So I'm I'm really excited to get her take.
1:53:05
SPEAKER_06: But you mean by non-commental, like eh, I'm I I'll probably meh.
1:53:11
SPEAKER_06: That's all right.
1:53:12
SPEAKER_06: Probably.
1:53:12
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I'll be in there.
1:53:14
SPEAKER_00: That's kind of how it ended for once upon a time for me.
1:53:16
SPEAKER_00: I was like, really?
1:53:17
SPEAKER_00: That's how we're gonna end this.
1:53:18
SPEAKER_00: Okay, yeah.
1:53:18
SPEAKER_06: Did you ever did you catch the the one season um Alice in Wonderland that they did?
1:53:23
SPEAKER_06: It was for the summer.
1:53:25
SPEAKER_00: Once upon a time in Wonderland, yeah.
1:53:26
SPEAKER_06: Yes, that was not too bad.
1:53:27
SPEAKER_06: I liked it.
1:53:28
SPEAKER_06: I like the fact that it was one season and was just for the summer, yeah.
1:53:31
SPEAKER_00: And it was supposed to be a full series, but it didn't get picked up, which was fine because at least they didn't leave it off on a cliffhanger.
1:53:36
SPEAKER_00: Yes, or not a big one anyway.
1:53:38
SPEAKER_06: So it was fine, yeah.
1:53:40
SPEAKER_00: That was fine.
1:53:40
SPEAKER_00: I like that.
1:53:41
SPEAKER_00: Um, one show I all I've been talking to people about for the past couple years, and I hate that it got canceled.
1:53:47
SPEAKER_00: They left it off on a slight cliffhanger, slight, um, which was Greets Rise of the Pink Ladies.
1:53:54
SPEAKER_00: And I loved that show.
1:53:56
SPEAKER_00: I it was there wasn't heard of it.
1:53:59
SPEAKER_00: So it was on Paramount Plus, and what they did, they were trying to target this.
1:54:04
SPEAKER_00: Is the thing, these people, these streamers, don't understand their target audience.
1:54:08
SPEAKER_00: They don't understand it because they pull things too fast because they're not getting the response they want.
1:54:13
SPEAKER_06: And and you're like, guys, you you have to A, you have to fact that it's streaming, you have to wait until people want to stream it.
1:54:20
SPEAKER_06: That's the plus of that's the beauty of streaming.
1:54:22
SPEAKER_06: I don't have to watch it, I can wait six months.
1:54:25
SPEAKER_00: So the target audience was obviously for our generation for nostalgia, but it was also for they really wanted the younger generation as a new generation to get into Greece, right?
1:54:36
SPEAKER_00: So, but the thing they did wrong was they released it weekly.
1:54:40
SPEAKER_00: And they were counting, which was fine.
1:54:42
SPEAKER_00: I love watching things weekly.
1:54:43
SPEAKER_00: I grew up with I like the suspense in between to think about stuff, you know?
1:54:47
SPEAKER_00: And but uh the younger generation, they want to see it all at once.
1:54:50
SPEAKER_00: They want so what they didn't do was they released it weekly and it got decent okay ratings, I guess, in their streams, but not enough.
1:54:59
SPEAKER_00: And so when the last episode came out, it was only out for a week and they canceled the show.
1:55:05
SPEAKER_06: They didn't give those a chance to people to go, okay, now I can watch it all at once.
1:55:08
SPEAKER_06: Now that all the shows are out, and now I'm ready to binge it.
1:55:11
SPEAKER_00: They didn't get those it came out in 2023.
1:55:14
SPEAKER_00: It started like in February or March, and it went through like the beginning of June.
1:55:18
SPEAKER_00: It was like 10 episodes, and I think something like that.
1:55:21
SPEAKER_00: And then and then so it ended, and then they're like, Oh, we're canceling the show like a week later, and then uh like a few days after that, like, yeah, and by the way, at the end of the at the end of June, it'll no longer be available on the platform.
1:55:32
SPEAKER_00: So they pulled it off completely.
1:55:33
SPEAKER_06: At 2023, you'd think they would have understand how stream watchers watch by now.
1:55:40
SPEAKER_00: You'd think so.
1:55:41
SPEAKER_00: The only way you can watch it now is if you have to download it like through Apple or Amazon, you have to buy it, or illegally, or yeah.
1:55:50
SPEAKER_00: Um, or you can get they have like uh at Walmart right now in online, you can get Grease, Grease One, Grease One and Grease Two, and Grease Rise of the Pink Ladies in a pack for like 20 bucks.
1:56:01
SPEAKER_06: I mean, and you know, this is a really good show, good when you original numbers old people like 60-something year olds running a business that they yeah, you could still be the head of the business, but you understand there's the business change in your way of it changes a lot faster nowadays, a lot faster changes.
1:56:19
SPEAKER_06: Everything changes faster nowadays, and they're still stuck in how like this is not 1950 mad men advertising.
1:56:31
SPEAKER_06: So, but you know what?
1:56:33
SPEAKER_06: That's why we're gonna take that's why Gen S is gonna take over the world because part of us doesn't care what you say.
1:56:40
SPEAKER_06: You don't we're gonna make decisions that's we're gonna make the right decision because we don't care what you like, you like us or not.
1:56:48
SPEAKER_00: Well, uh I'm kind of a genetic I'm I'm a xennial.
1:56:50
SPEAKER_00: I'm at the I'm literally the beginning of the millennials.
1:56:54
SPEAKER_06: You are still a pro you're still approved.
1:56:56
SPEAKER_06: You're still you're still allowed to be part of the case.
1:56:58
SPEAKER_06: You can you can come you can come to the club meetings.
1:57:01
SPEAKER_06: Yes.
1:57:03
SPEAKER_00: Thank you, thank you.
1:57:04
SPEAKER_06: So yeah, I completely we went off a tangent and Lisa was trying to shed a pee.
1:57:08
SPEAKER_02: But I but I was gonna say also is that if you if you ever do lost recap on your show, definitely let out Agnes know so that she can so she can hate watch it with you.
1:57:19
SPEAKER_00: If we yeah ever well, I have to watch it first and then it has to go for a while, then I have to rewatch it.
1:57:24
SPEAKER_02: So watch me, yeah, watch it to the watch it first, whatever.
1:57:27
SPEAKER_00: Right now we're in the middle of dead like me.
1:57:29
SPEAKER_02: So yeah, I I I started that show when it came out, so I like watching your clips because I'm like, oh yeah, I remember that.
1:57:37
SPEAKER_00: It's on Roku channel, which is a free app.
1:57:39
SPEAKER_00: You don't have to have a Roku for Roku channel.
1:57:41
SPEAKER_02: I have a Roku, but yeah, I got um maybe I'll rewatch it.
1:57:44
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's only two seasons long, it's not too long.
1:57:46
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I'm like, I remember I completely forgot about the show until I saw your TikToks, and then I'm like, oh yeah, look at that.
1:57:52
SPEAKER_02: Now I gotta like rewatch it and then listen and you know with the companion.
1:57:55
SPEAKER_00: So yeah, it's it's great, it's a fun show.
1:57:58
SPEAKER_02: So yeah.
1:57:59
SPEAKER_00: Anyway, um uh thank you.
1:58:02
SPEAKER_00: Thank you again for having me on.
1:58:03
SPEAKER_00: And you need to go pee.
1:58:04
SPEAKER_02: So uh problem after you have three kids, you know?
1:58:09
SPEAKER_00: Um I'm sure I would know, but he's like, if you say so.
1:58:12
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and then I've consumed alcohol and water.
1:58:15
SPEAKER_00: Okay, anyway, enough about my bladder.
1:58:18
SPEAKER_02: Thank you for tuning into Lisa's bladder talk.
