Transcript
- 0:14Well, hello, everybody, and welcome to a very special edition of the ABA Coffee In The Park.
- 0:21My name is Cam Milliken, and I am here with my co-host extraordinaire, the amazing Jennifer Herrick, the Executive Director of the Acheson Business Association.
- 0:31Hello, Jennifer.
- 0:32Hello, Cam.
- 0:33It is a special day.
- 0:34It's a very special day.
- 0:36You know what, Cam, I'm sitting here and a little bit of disbelief.
- 0:38Yeah, me too.
- 0:40We're kind of in awe today.
- 0:41We are.
- 0:42Because this is...
- 0:43This is our one year anniversary slash birthday of the podcast.
- 0:48Can you believe it?
- 0:49We have been doing this for one whole year.
- 0:53Well, the fact that we're still sitting across from each other doing this podcast, number one is amazing.
- 0:57I know.
- 0:58There are marriages that don't make it this long.
- 0:59I know.
- 1:00And this is incredible.
- 1:01And here you and I are.
- 1:03And it's been...
- 1:05And we're still friends.
- 1:06We are.
- 1:07We are.
- 1:07Right?
- 1:08And what a year.
- 1:10What a year.
- 1:10Let's be honest.
- 1:11When we started this, we didn't think it would go very far.
- 1:15We really didn't.
- 1:15No.
- 1:16No.
- 1:16I mean, I guess we didn't really...
- 1:18I don't know why, but we just didn't.
- 1:20And you always tell the story of how we started this podcast.
- 1:24Yes.
- 1:24So...
- 1:25Do you want me to tell...
- 1:26Well, you tell it better than I do.
- 1:28So one day...
- 1:29So for those that don't know, Cam's office and my office are kind of across the hall from each other.
- 1:3530 feet across the front But this goes back to the days where we were in Bow Valley Credit Union, in the bank.
- 1:41That's right.
- 1:41That was the original office.
- 1:42You were around the corner.
- 1:43I was around the corner.
- 1:43That's right.
- 1:44You were in the back there.
- 1:45That's right.
- 1:46I miss that office.
- 1:48Bow Valley, can I have that back? Just kidding.
- 1:50No, they're not giving it back.
- 1:51Okay, they're not giving it back.
- 1:52I missed my office too, because my office was like the size of the oval office in the White House.
- 1:57And now I'm in like...
- 1:59Well, I'm not complaining, but nonetheless.
- 2:00We digress.
- 2:01We digress, yes.
- 2:02So I walked around the corner to your office, and you had the microphone that we're currently using.
- 2:07Yeah, our blue mic.
- 2:08On your desk, and I said, what are you...
- 2:10what's that?
- 2:11And you told me, oh, we're starting a podcast.
- 2:14And I said, you're starting a podcast?
- 2:16That's great.
- 2:17And you looked at me and said, no, we are starting a podcast.
- 2:22I subscripted you or whatever that is.
- 2:24And I called you an idiot.
- 2:25You did.
- 2:27She did.
- 2:27She called me an idiot.
- 2:28I did call him an idiot.
- 2:30But it didn't phase me.
- 2:31And I walked out.
- 2:32And then over the next few months, another mic showed up.
- 2:38And so here we are.
- 2:39I remember, I know, and we talked about it, and we talked about what we wanted the podcast to look like and what we were going to call it and all that kind of stuff.
- 2:48And we just said we just wanted to be coffee and conversation.
- 2:51And I think this also stemmed out of the fact that you and I were meeting so many fascinating business people at the time that had amazing stories.
- 3:00They really did.
- 3:01They had great stories.
- 3:02And I thought, we got to tell these stories.
- 3:04And you like that idea.
- 3:05And so how do we do that?
- 3:07We start a podcast.
- 3:07We start a podcast.
- 3:08And then 5 million people have started a podcast.
- 3:12There's only like five.
- 3:14There's like what?
- 3:14500 million podcasts in the world.
- 3:17And so we're just a drop in the podcast bucket.
- 3:20But we had no listeners, zero listeners.
- 3:23Well, that's not totally true.
- 3:25Your mom, she's so faithful.
- 3:28I love your mom.
- 3:30She was like, I think, our first listener.
- 3:33Our families were our first listeners.
- 3:34Yeah, our families were.
- 3:35My cousins, they listened every now and then.
- 3:38And so yeah, I remember saying to you, if we get 250 listeners, I'd be happy.
- 3:44That was a bit...
- 3:46I know.
- 3:46That was a number that was a little audacious.
- 3:48I know.
- 3:48I didn't even think we'd get there.
- 3:50No, it seemed like there's no way 250 people are gonna listen to this.
- 3:54And I thought maybe we do this for five episodes, and that would be it.
- 3:56That's it.
- 3:57I know.
- 3:58You were ready.
- 3:59I think you were just appeasing me to get it off the table, and hoping you'd move on to something else.
- 4:05Well, Cam had another idea, and it didn't quite work out, so let's see where that goes.
- 4:09But anyway, so we passed 250 pretty quick.
- 4:13It was very quick.
- 4:15And then remember when we got to 500 listeners?
- 4:17Hannah baked us a cake.
- 4:18Yes.
- 4:19We have pictures of us with our 500 listener cake.
- 4:22So for those listening, Hannah is, I'll call her our amazing Executive Producer.
- 4:27She is kind of, yeah.
- 4:28She takes care of a lot of stuff.
- 4:30She posts our podcast.
- 4:32She transcribes everything.
- 4:34She's amazing.
- 4:35Yeah, she really is.
- 4:36And she gets it out there and all that kind of stuff.
- 4:39So it's all really great.
- 4:40So yeah, and so then we wondered where are we going to do this podcast?
- 4:45And we were in the coffee shop for a lot of meetings.
- 4:48And again, we thought to put people at ease, just call it Coffee and Conversation.
- 4:53Yeah, right on.
- 4:54Because so many of our guests, Cam, had never ever been on a podcast before.
- 4:58No, never.
- 4:59And we didn't want to do it in a studio, per se.
- 5:01No, we wanted to keep it really organic and grassroots.
- 5:05Yeah, and so we do it here in the Wall Coffee Roasters, and we do it in the heart of beautiful downtown Acheson.
- 5:14And that's where we are today doing this show.
- 5:16And it's great.
- 5:17We are in a corner of the coffee shop.
- 5:20We're sitting, actually, I'm sitting on some church pews at a great table.
- 5:24And this is wonderful.
- 5:25This is a great spot to do it.
- 5:27It absolutely is.
- 5:29And I remember we were sitting there thinking, oh boy, who's going to come on this podcast?
- 5:34Yeah.
- 5:35How are we going to get guests?
- 5:36I didn't know who would yet.
- 5:38Like, I didn't know if we'd get anybody, actually, because we were nobodies.
- 5:41And as of today, yes, we have dropped over 55 episodes.
- 5:46We have not missed a single week of podcast guests.
- 5:48No, we haven't.
- 5:50No, that's right.
- 5:51That's Phenomenal! So we've had more than 55 guests, but we've done some specials where it's just been you and I.
- 6:00So in this course of this past year, we've had probably about, what, 52, 53 guests on the podcast.
- 6:06Unbelievable.
- 6:07From all walks of life.
- 6:08All walks of life.
- 6:09From everywhere.
- 6:10Tell me, who's some of your favorites?
- 6:14You know what?
- 6:14I had to go back, and it's so funny, a year goes by and you think, oh my gosh.
- 6:19I know.
- 6:20You look back and you think, we've actually had all of these people on the podcast.
- 6:23I know.
- 6:24I was looking at, I was putting together a bit of a slideshow yesterday because we're doing a little thing here.
- 6:30We're doing a little party here at the Wall Coffee Roasters.
- 6:33And invited a bunch of our past guests.
- 6:36And I actually got a little emotional going through it.
- 6:38Looking at all these guests.
- 6:40I know.
- 6:41The people we've had.
- 6:42Like, unbelievable.
- 6:43And Cam, I would say the people that we now call friends.
- 6:48Yes, I agree with that, Jennifer.
- 6:50Like, they have it.
- 6:51They weren't just guests on our podcast.
- 6:53If they started out that way, now they've kind of become friends of ours.
- 6:57And we just continued to grow and grow and have more listeners and more listeners.
- 7:01And then we're tracking that our listeners aren't just here in Edmonton or in Alberta or in Canada. This is the part that blows my mind! They're around the world.
- 7:09They are around the world.
- 7:10Cam, we are in 233 cities.
- 7:13Yes.
- 7:13In every continent except except Antarctica.
- 7:18The penguins aren't listening.
- 7:19They don't know if they have that technology.
- 7:20So if anybody there knows a penguin, that would get them to listen.
- 7:24Or if you know anybody in Antarctica who's like a penguin farmer or rancher, and you got nothing to do, because I understand the winters are like cold and dingy and like late, there's no light.
- 7:35So you want to listen to a great podcast, just let them know about our podcast.
- 7:38But yeah, we're on every continent.
- 7:40Isn't that amazing?
- 7:42It amazes me, because I mean, I've had the privilege of being to a few continents, but I just can't believe that somebody in every continent is listening to ABA Coffee In The Park.
- 7:51No, I can't either.
- 7:52It's unbelievable.
- 7:52I know.
- 7:53And so this is pretty incredible.
- 7:55And over 9,000 listeners.
- 7:56Yes.
- 7:57And so the thing is, is like we just, we're like kind of nobodies.
- 8:00Well, we are nobodies.
- 8:01Yeah, we are.
- 8:02We're not like stars or anything like that.
- 8:04We don't have limos or like private jets or anything.
- 8:07I want my tour bus, but that's not happening.
- 8:11It's going to be like your mom's motor home, like with our pictures plastered all over it.
- 8:16As we like go on tour of Alberta.
- 8:19It's like, it's like that's what we need to do.
- 8:21Like, I mean, you know, like we're going to go on the road, folks.
- 8:24We're going to do the road show.
- 8:25Mom, I'm coming to get the motor home.
- 8:28We're going to get Don and Jan to plaster our pictures on the side of that at Mprint.
- 8:34And then it's going to be like, coming to a town near you, you know, like Friday night at the curling rink or something like that.
- 8:41But hey, you know, that's how they all started out.
- 8:42That's that's how all the big people started out.
- 8:45You got to start somewhere.
- 8:46So maybe you'll see us on a road trip.
- 8:49I don't know a road show.
- 8:50I have no idea.
- 8:51But anyway, because every time I say things like that, Jennifer looks at me and that word idiot pops up.
- 8:59But look where we are today.
- 9:03So yeah, so yeah, it's been quite a thing.
- 9:05So every continent, 233 cities, and almost over 9,000 listeners.
- 9:12Yes, which is why we're having the party tonight to celebrate.
- 9:14That's right.
- 9:15And you know what we're having at our party?
- 9:17Our favorite.
- 9:18We're having Wing Snob Wings.
- 9:21Mike Chadi.
- 9:21Mike Chadi was one of our early guests.
- 9:23And Mike is somebody that you and I call a dear friend.
- 9:26Mike has become such a good friend, and he just does an amazing thing.
- 9:30He's always supportive of us, and he has Wing Snob, and they make the best wings I've ever had.
- 9:37Best chicken wings ever.
- 9:3810 locations.
- 9:39That's right.
- 9:39Never frozen.
- 9:40Across Edmonton and region.
- 9:41That's right.
- 9:41Never frozen.
- 9:42Always fresh.
- 9:43And all, what, 30-some flavors.
- 9:45Okay, what's your favorite flavor?
- 9:46Well, I really like the Parmesan ones.
- 9:49I really like those, the Parm Wings.
- 9:50I was so excited when he got dill pickles.
- 9:52Yes, you love dill pickles.
- 9:54And they're pretty good.
- 9:55They are really good.
- 9:56I love them.
- 9:56And matter of fact, we did one of our last podcasts we did with Nadel Huoseh, in a Wing Snob.
- 10:04In Manning.
- 10:04That's right, in Manning, in Edmonton.
- 10:06That's right.
- 10:06And that was kind of cool.
- 10:08You and I ate, shared 30 wings.
- 10:11I'm not going to say who ate more of the wings.
- 10:13I'm just going to leave it at that.
- 10:15But it wasn't me.
- 10:16And we ate our wings.
- 10:18Then we did our podcast.
- 10:19Then Nadel, he wanted to order more wings.
- 10:23Well, how do you not when you're at Wingstown?
- 10:24I know.
- 10:24That's the truth, right?
- 10:25And we're having this, we thought this might be too big of a cake for Hannah to bake.
- 10:30Yeah.
- 10:31So our dear friends at Freson Brothers are going to be doing a cake.
- 10:35They made us a cake.
- 10:36Yes.
- 10:36You know what flavor it is?
- 10:37No.
- 10:38Because you weren't here.
- 10:39I wasn't here.
- 10:39So she asked me what flavor.
- 10:42I want to be surprised.
- 10:43Okay.
- 10:43I want to tell you, but it's my favorite flavor.
- 10:46Okay.
- 10:46And so we're getting a cake and we're getting wings.
- 10:49And it's going to be just, we're bringing some of our past guests together.
- 10:52We're going to show a bit of our slideshow, and we're just going to have fun celebrating and thank them for helping us make it one year.
- 11:00One year.
- 11:01And you know, when I think back, let's just think back for a minute, how all the guests we've had.
- 11:05We've had some pretty, well, they've all been incredible.
- 11:08We've had incredible guests.
- 11:09Our very first guest, you remember who our very first guest was?
- 11:12Jan Michener from Michener Allen Auctioneering.
- 11:15She was great.
- 11:16She was.
- 11:16She was a hoot because she was telling us about her food truck that she's starting.
- 11:21She's just an amazing lady.
- 11:23We had Michael Wall.
- 11:24We had Michael Wall from the Wall Coffee Roasters, where we record from every week.
- 11:29And Michael was one of our first guests, and he was great.
- 11:32Just a great story, a phenomenal story.
- 11:35You know, for me, I think what was so great is we had all three of the Lifetime Achievement Award winners on this podcast from the Acheson Business Association.
- 11:46So we had Wes Wall.
- 11:48Wes Wall.
- 11:48Yes.
- 11:49We had Darlene Whittaker.
- 11:50And Mike Myshak Senior.
- 11:54That's right.
- 11:54And that was a great podcast, Mike Myshak Senior, because his whole family came.
- 11:58It was great.
- 11:59And Mike is like what?
- 12:0090 some years old.
- 12:02And he told his story.
- 12:04And the truth is, our podcasts, as you know, are about 30, 31 minutes long.
- 12:09Mike went for like an hour and a half.
- 12:10But that's okay.
- 12:11We let him.
- 12:11We let him because we wanted him to tell his whole story, and we edited it down, and it was incredible.
- 12:17And the best part about that was his whole family was sitting around the table here.
- 12:21Like his whole family.
- 12:22Like it was a lot of fun.
- 12:25And it was just...
- 12:26Remember when we originally talked about that one?
- 12:28We were going to do Mike Senior, his son, and Mike Junior, and have all three of them talk, but it was mostly Mike Senior.
- 12:36And he told a great story.
- 12:37It was an amazing story of his journey.
- 12:39Yeah, how they started business and everything like that way back in the day.
- 12:43So that was pretty cool.
- 12:44And then Darlene, what a story.
- 12:45What an incredible story.
- 12:46You know she's one of my favorite people.
- 12:47I know.
- 12:48You love Darlene.
- 12:49I've known Darlene for 40-some-odd years, and she has just such an amazing story of a woman in leadership who, a woman in leadership who, who against all odds said, I'm going to keep this business going and look at it today.
- 13:03Fantastic.
- 13:04I think the other piece for me, when you say women in leadership, you know that's near and dear to my heart, and we've had so many phenomenal women on this podcast.
- 13:14Yes, we have.
- 13:15And you know what, Jennifer, that I love working with you because you are such a proponent of women in leadership, and I love that.
- 13:22You know I am strong on that, and I believe in that.
- 13:24And we've been able to, we've been able to showcase that on our podcast.
- 13:29It's been incredible because there are some amazing women who are incredible leaders, business women, and in other walks and areas of life, who have done some incredible things.
- 13:38It's true, everyone from, you know, our Women in Leadership Award winners, Maron Green was on the podcast.
- 13:44Yeah, Maron Green, yeah, she's amazing.
- 13:46Amazing.
- 13:46We had Stephanie Rodenkirchen on the podcast.
- 13:49Yeah.
- 13:49From Lotus Group.
- 13:50We had some great women.
- 13:50Just the fact that you can say Rodenkirchen is like that's.
- 13:54Tamara Sanderson.
- 13:54Tamara, what a story, Tamara.
- 13:57An unbelievable story.
- 13:59Again, another woman who could have just, admist in the, you know, adversity was like, no, I'm gonna do it.
- 14:06I'm gonna make it happen, and she did.
- 14:08Pretty incredible, pretty incredible.
- 14:10And then, when we were talking about our lifetime achievement awards, we had Wes Wall, the founder of Genics.
- 14:18Here where we are, this property is on the Genics property.
- 14:21And founder of the Acheson Business Association.
- 14:22That's right, one of the original founders of the Acheson Business Association, and has done incredible in business.
- 14:29Such a supporter.
- 14:30Such a supporter, one of my best friends, but is just a great guy, like amazing.
- 14:35And we've been able to have, and you know what?
- 14:37You know what about Wes?
- 14:38I'll let you in on a little secret.
- 14:39We're the only podcast he's ever done.
- 14:41He turns people down.
- 14:42I know he turns people down.
- 14:43He just does us.
- 14:44Like we're very, I think I feel very honored.
- 14:47Me too.
- 14:47Because there are some of our guests that have been in that situation.
- 14:51Yeah.
- 14:52We are the only podcast.
- 14:53I know.
- 14:54And it's not like they don't get asked.
- 14:55They do get asked.
- 14:56They do get asked to be on other podcasts.
- 14:58And they've said no, but they've been on ours.
- 15:00And I think that's why they become such good friends.
- 15:02I agree.
- 15:03Yeah, they really have.
- 15:04It's not you pushing the Honey Blueberry Latte?
- 15:06Oh, the Honey Blueberry Latte here at The Wall Coffee Roasters is without a doubt the best latte I've ever had.
- 15:13Whether it's cold or hot, on a hot day, you want the cold one.
- 15:17On a cold day, you want the hot one.
- 15:18It's unbelievable.
- 15:20Like, it's just, every time I come in here, all I think is honey.
- 15:23Think about what we've done.
- 15:24We've had a Thanksgiving show.
- 15:26Remember that?
- 15:27Where we tasted pumpkin pie.
- 15:28We rated pumpkin pie.
- 15:30We went to three stores.
- 15:32We did.
- 15:32Was it three?
- 15:33Three.
- 15:33Or four.
- 15:33Three stores.
- 15:34And we taste tested pumpkin pie.
- 15:37That was the best.
- 15:39We taste tested pumpkin pies.
- 15:41I loved it.
- 15:41We did a Christmas edition.
- 15:43Yep.
- 15:43Remember that?
- 15:43We talked about our favorite traditions at the holiday.
- 15:45That's right.
- 15:47We got a lot of feedback on our Christmas thing because we talked both your family, my family traditions.
- 15:52And I got a lot of feedback from my family on our family tradition.
- 15:57But anyways, that was a lot of fun.
- 15:59And I think the highly rated Pet Peeve show.
- 16:01The Pet Peeve, you know, I think we that was Pet Peeves 1.
- 16:05I think it's going to become an ongoing, Pet Peeves 2, Pet Peeves 3.
- 16:10Because everybody can relate.
- 16:11No.
- 16:12Yeah.
- 16:12And that we heard that.
- 16:13People said, that's my Pet Peeve 2.
- 16:15And they just don't talk about it.
- 16:17And we just decided to talk about it.
- 16:19And it was a lot of fun.
- 16:20It was like really great.
- 16:21Cam we interview a cat! That's right. A Cat.
- 16:25Felix won the podcast Guest Of The Year.
- 16:29At 2024.
- 16:30That's right.
- 16:30Felix, the shop cat, over there at Bushell Transport.
- 16:33And was Cheryl Glattacker.
- 16:35And that was a great interview with Felix the cat.
- 16:38I thought it was a great interview.
- 16:40Halfway during the interview, Felix decided to meow.
- 16:44And then he just decided to get up and walk around.
- 16:46He was done.
- 16:47That's right.
- 16:48We couldn't hold his attention.
- 16:50So luckily Cheryl was there because she was able to fill in for Felix.
- 16:54And then yeah, we gave him the award at the awards banquet.
- 16:58And that was awesome.
- 17:00I loved Felix.
- 17:00I know.
- 17:01He's gained a little weight.
- 17:02But anyway, he's like, sorry Felix, no offense.
- 17:06But you have Felix.
- 17:07You put on pounds.
- 17:08So but Cam, not only have we told some amazing stories of individuals, we've told some really emotional stories.
- 17:16Yes.
- 17:17The story of Tyler Pelke, who is such a good friend to you and I.
- 17:21Tyler is an amazing guy.
- 17:23What a story.
- 17:24And just one of the most positive guys I've ever met in the midst of tragedy in his life.
- 17:32And he's just taken his life and turned it around.
- 17:35I love Tyler.
- 17:36He is amazing.
- 17:38And we had the Stelters on.
- 17:39Mike and Lea Stelter.
- 17:41That's right.
- 17:41And for those of you who aren't familiar with Mike and Lea, of course, their son Ben, little Ben, had cancer, brain tumor cancer, and passed away.
- 17:54But he became huge in our city through the Edmonton Oilers and a good friend of Connor McDavid's and all of that.
- 18:00And they were so gracious to come on our podcast and tell their story.
- 18:05Yeah, their story.
- 18:06And that to me was just so very emotional for them to tell their story.
- 18:11And then we've not only had some really great emotional stories, but we've actually had live music on our podcast.
- 18:20Broddy Olson.
- 18:21Broddy Olson.
- 18:22The violinist from the Edmonton.
- 18:24Remember when he sat here?
- 18:25Played Amazing Grace.
- 18:26Played Amazing.
- 18:27He brought his violin, not a fiddle, a violin, and he played Amazing Grace.
- 18:32And man, I just had tears pouring down my cheek.
- 18:34And the whole coffee, remember?
- 18:36The whole coffee shop stopped.
- 18:37Everybody stopped and Broddy was playing Amazing Grace on his violin.
- 18:41It was unbelievable, really.
- 18:43It was incredible.
- 18:44So it's not just been, it's been such a variety of shows and people and stories.
- 18:50And we've had, like, like recently, we had, like, like Barrie, Barrie Stafford.
- 18:55Barrie Stafford, 28 years with the Edmonton Oilers.
- 18:58I know.
- 18:58What a guy.
- 18:59What a guy.
- 19:00Just incredible.
- 19:01Like, what an incredible story.
- 19:03And I mean, I know we could, we could name them all, because they really all were incredible stories.
- 19:08And some of them are just, they're all fantastic.
- 19:11And some of them, you remember just as, man, that really hit home.
- 19:15Like, that was amazing.
- 19:17Incredible.
- 19:18Do you know, I think the one that, that hit home for me the most, and you and I have become emotional on this podcast.
- 19:23Yeah.
- 19:24Yeah.
- 19:25I've shed a tear.
- 19:25I think it was when Trevor and Amanda Wilhauk talked about their 12 days of giving at Christmas.
- 19:31And just what they've done for the community.
- 19:33I know.
- 19:33And what a story.
- 19:34What a story.
- 19:36And, you know, there's more to that story than meets the eye, and that's not for us to talk about too much.
- 19:41That's for them to talk about.
- 19:43But they're giving at Christmas, and their willingness to give at Christmas, and just help their community, and help people in need, like it did.
- 19:53It brought tears to our eyes, and positive, positive people, like just, we want to make a difference.
- 19:58Plus, let's not forget, they have like some of the best beef jerky in the whole entire world.
- 20:03Oh, you can't go wrong with the Brickhouse Smokery Beef Jerky or Pepperoni.
- 20:06Brickhouse Smokery Beef Jerky is amazing.
- 20:09It's unbelievable.
- 20:11And they're part of, they're not far from Acheson here.
- 20:13They're just Spruce Grove.
- 20:14You know what, we've interviewed quite a few people from Spruce Grove.
- 20:17We have, the honey people.
- 20:19Richard and Amber Ozero.
- 20:21Those honey people, they're, that's- Cam couldn't stop talking about bees for a week.
- 20:24No, because I, what they told, I knew nothing about that, them bees.
- 20:28Like, how did I know any of that?
- 20:30Like, I just go to the store and get my honey.
- 20:32No more do I go to the store and get my honey.
- 20:35Now, I get my honey from Mrs.
- 20:38Herrick in Shaunavon, Saskatchewan, whose neighbor is, I think, a bee rancher, and has bees, and brings the most- I'm just putting a plug in here.
- 20:48What's the name of the bee place?
- 20:50The honey- you're shaking your head at me.
- 20:53I just get it. I don't know.
- 20:54It's your mom's neighbor for crying out loud.
- 20:57I'm just saying that.
- 20:58But listen, I have a new respect for honey because I didn't know the bees did that, what they did.
- 21:04Like, it's incredible, like really unbelievable.
- 21:08And I could have gone on for that show for an hour because- We've done some amazing food episodes too.
- 21:13We did?
- 21:14We did.
- 21:15Oh, our dear friend, Amy Quon from the Lingnan.
- 21:18The Lingnan.
- 21:20Amy.
- 21:21Oh, Amy.
- 21:22I love Amy.
- 21:23And Amy Choy from Bing?
- 21:25That's right.
- 21:26But just go back to the Lingnan, the oldest Chinese restaurant in the city of Edmonton.
- 21:31And I was there on Saturday night.
- 21:33And it was amazing.
- 21:35Those green beans with pork are unbelievable.
- 21:37Anyway, we had them.
- 21:39Then we had Amy Choy from Bings.
- 21:41Bings in Spruce Grove.
- 21:42Bings is second for me.
- 21:44Yes.
- 21:44But it's good.
- 21:45Bings is very, very, very good.
- 21:46I love Bings.
- 21:47Because the beauty of Bings, you can't do this at the Lingnan, is that Bings, if you don't want Chinese, you can get a veal cutlet.
- 21:53And I just love that veal cutlet with that gravy and those mashed potatoes.
- 21:59I'm trying to lose weight.
- 22:00This is not good, but that's just unbelievable.
- 22:03We invented a drink.
- 22:04We did.
- 22:05I don't think it really went anywhere.
- 22:07The JC.
- 22:08I don't know why.
- 22:09I don't either, because I thought it was quite the JC.
- 22:11The Jennifer and Cam.
- 22:13That was a good drink.
- 22:14Well, it's still available.
- 22:15Summer's not over.
- 22:17No, I don't think you can, because they don't stock some of the ingredients that we put in the original JC.
- 22:24So I don't think you can anymore.
- 22:25Well, you know what?
- 22:26Call us up and we'll come over and make you a JC.
- 22:29We'll be a guest barista.
- 22:31Yeah, guest barista.
- 22:33That's right.
- 22:34We'll make you a, cocktail hour, and come on over and get a JC.
- 22:38And yeah, that's great.
- 22:40So yeah, we've had great food episodes.
- 22:42We've had great musical episodes.
- 22:46Obviously, we've had great story episodes.
- 22:48Just great stories.
- 22:50And I love the people that have told their...
- 22:52And you know, the other thing too is some of them have been pretty vulnerable and willing to share some really just deep parts of their life that maybe they hadn't talked about before, but they knew maybe this will help somebody.
- 23:06And so they were willing to listen.
- 23:08I think that's fantastic.
- 23:09I think it's amazing.
- 23:10Yeah.
- 23:11So yeah.
- 23:11And I mean, it's just the list goes on and on and on and on of wonderful people.
- 23:16And I was thinking the other day of Don from RE/MAX, who rode his bike across Canada.
- 23:22I don't know why I was thinking about...
- 23:23I think because I was driving and I saw a guy riding his bike.
- 23:26They were shaking their head.
- 23:27Well, he was having a little struggle.
- 23:29I thought, oh, is that what it was for Don?
- 23:30Like, that's not good.
- 23:32Like, he rode his bike right across Canada.
- 23:34Amazing.
- 23:35By himself.
- 23:36By himself.
- 23:36He didn't have a motorhome following him or anything.
- 23:39He was just by himself.
- 23:41And that was incredible.
- 23:42What a story.
- 23:43What a story.
- 23:44Amazing stories.
- 23:45So yeah, it's been quite a ride.
- 23:47Hasn't it, though?
- 23:48It really has.
- 23:49But I think the exciting part is.
- 23:51Yes.
- 23:52The ride isn't over.
- 23:53No, it's not.
- 23:55And you know what?
- 23:55Again, I'm just going to go back to it.
- 23:57So we've done a full year.
- 23:59Fifty-four people, fifty-four guests, almost ten thousand listeners.
- 24:04It's been amazing.
- 24:06And, you know, you come to a bit of a crossroads and you think, well, you know, do we keep going?
- 24:12Do we stop?
- 24:13What do we do?
- 24:14And people are wondering, are you guys going to keep going?
- 24:17Or have you had enough?
- 24:19And I'm pretty excited because we're not going to let the cat out of the bag today, but there's some pretty exciting news on the horizon.
- 24:30It's breaking news.
- 24:31Remember how we love to do breaking news?
- 24:33We loved breaking news, like when politicians would say they're going to run on our thing.
- 24:37They'd already told everybody, but we just made it breaking news on our podcast.
- 24:40There's going to be breaking news about the next iteration of the podcast.
- 24:46That's right.
- 24:47And folks, I'm going to tell you right now.
- 24:49It's going to be amazing.
- 24:51It's going to be amazing.
- 24:52I'm so excited.
- 24:53Oh, you're excited.
- 24:54Me too.
- 24:55Like, she's not calling me an idiot anymore, but maybe she will, but she's not.
- 24:59And this is, I'm, what, what?
- 25:01So here's the thing is you're going to have to stay tuned.
- 25:04Don't, yeah, stay tuned.
- 25:05Yeah, because we're going to let, soon, soon we're going to let the cat out of the bag.
- 25:10And you're going to love it.
- 25:11Yeah.
- 25:12I'm hoping you're going to love it.
- 25:13Well, no, I'm pretty sure.
- 25:14I think they are.
- 25:15I think people are going to love where we're going.
- 25:17I think it's going to be bigger.
- 25:18It's going to be bigger.
- 25:19Better.
- 25:20Better.
- 25:21More exciting.
- 25:22More exciting.
- 25:23It's going to get more exciting.
- 25:24No, it's going to be exciting all right.
- 25:27It's going to be incredible.
- 25:28And I guess for me, and I don't know about you, but I am excited because I think it's going to take us to new places and with new stories and new people, and it's just going to be great.
- 25:39It's still going to be stories.
- 25:41Yes.
- 25:41We're still telling the story of the every day person.
- 25:45The story behind the story, that's right.
- 25:47Because everybody has a story.
- 25:48That's how this started.
- 25:50And it's still going to be coffee and conversation and just, you know, sitting back and talking to people and their amazing stories.
- 25:57But just with a little refresh rebrand.
- 25:59Oh, a little.
- 26:01It's going to be huge.
- 26:02It's going to be huge.
- 26:03It's going to be amazing.
- 26:05It's going to be unbelievable.
- 26:06So keep following us.
- 26:07Keep following because it'll come out.
- 26:10Word will leak out.
- 26:11We're not telling a lot of people yet, but words leaking out and you might read it or see it in the news or in People Magazine or something.
- 26:20No, I'm just kidding.
- 26:22It's not going to be in People Magazine.
- 26:24The only thing that would ever be in People Magazine is Jennifer gets so mad at me.
- 26:27She kills me.
- 26:28And then it'll be like podcast host kills co-host.
- 26:33Done.
- 26:33But anyway, that's not going to happen.
- 26:35But anyway, I'm just saying it's going to be amazing.
- 26:37It's going to be amazing.
- 26:38It is.
- 26:39So again, keep listening.
- 26:41Thank you for listening.
- 26:42Thank you for listening.
- 26:43Yes, really.
- 26:44And you know what else I like just as we're closing out here?
- 26:47I like people tell me where they listen to us.
- 26:49I know.
- 26:50Like some of the strangest places.
- 26:52It is the strangest places.
- 26:53Some people tell us they listen to us when they're cutting their grass, on their riding mower.
- 26:57Some people tell us they listen to us in bed while they're going to sleep.
- 27:01I don't know about that.
- 27:02Maybe it puts them to sleep.
- 27:03But some people, some people, one person even told me when he goes to the bathroom, he like listens.
- 27:09Too much detail.
- 27:10That's right.
- 27:10That was too much information.
- 27:11I'm not going to say who that is.
- 27:13I won't say their name.
- 27:14But just I love, well, their drivings on trips and all kinds of stuff.
- 27:19So I think it's pretty cool.
- 27:20It is.
- 27:20It's pretty cool.
- 27:21It's amazing.
- 27:22It is.
- 27:22And so, yeah, boy, I'm just, I get goosebumps talking about it.
- 27:27It's pretty incredible.
- 27:28But anyway, thank you everybody again for listening.
- 27:31Thanks for making it a great year.
- 27:33What a year it's been.
- 27:34Yeah, what a year it's been.
- 27:36Thank you again to all our guests.
- 27:39Again, we couldn't do this without the guests.
- 27:41No, Jennifer and I could sit here and talk, but I think you'd tune out pretty quick if it was just always us.
- 27:46And Cam, everybody, everybody we have asked to come on the show has said yes, except for one, and that was a relative of yours.
- 27:55All right.
- 27:56So anyways, let's move on from that.
- 28:00It's a little bitter still.
- 28:00Well, I'm not bitter.
- 28:01I understand their reasoning.
- 28:03I get it.
- 28:03I totally get it.
- 28:04I just, I was just, you know, it's just anyway.
- 28:07Well, but can I just say something?
- 28:10We did a slideshow of all our guests.
- 28:12Yes, that we're showing tonight.
- 28:13We're showing it tonight.
- 28:14And you know what I noticed?
- 28:16Here's what I like.
- 28:17There's a couple things.
- 28:18There's a couple things.
- 28:19One, your hair.
- 28:20I know.
- 28:20Your hair, it's really changed.
- 28:21The changes over the year.
- 28:24That's very interesting in itself.
- 28:26Two, your shoes.
- 28:27You wear a lot of different kinds of shoes.
- 28:29I do.
- 28:29I like them.
- 28:30I'm just saying.
- 28:30Yeah.
- 28:31And for you, you wear a lot of white shirts.
- 28:33I wear a lot of white shirts.
- 28:36Your white runners. That's your trademark.
- 28:38Yeah, that's constant.
- 28:39And, Cam, I'm really proud of you.
- 28:42You've lost a lot of weight over the year.
- 28:43Thank you.
- 28:44I've tried.
- 28:46It's a struggle somedays.
- 28:47What, like when you're talking about all the food episodes, I just get so hungry.
- 28:51Those veal cutlets at Bing's are just like on my mind right now. And then the wings we're eating tonight.
- 28:56That's right. The wings.
- 28:57Tonight's a cheat night.
- 28:58I rode extra long on my bike this morning so that I could have wings tonight.
- 29:03Yeah, we have to have wings.
- 29:04300 wings we're having. Can't wait! Yeah, it's gonna be amazing.
- 29:07Anyway, everybody, what a great year.
- 29:10Jennifer, most of all, thank you to you.
- 29:12And I mean that sincerely.
- 29:14It's been just a blast.
- 29:15It's been so much fun.
- 29:17It has.
- 29:18Yeah.
- 29:18Couldn't imagine doing this podcast with anyone else.
- 29:21So thank you.
- 29:22That's right.
- 29:23It's great.
- 29:23Thanks, everybody, for listening.
- 29:24Make sure you tell your friends and your neighbors and your coworkers and your enemies.
- 29:28And if you don't have any friends, make one.
- 29:32And wherever you get your podcasts or at www.achesonbusiness.com, you can find us there.
- 29:39And thanks for a great year. Thanks everyone!
