- 0:21her chicken coop along with all her chickens.
- 0:28Hey everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:31One of my favorite all time authors is Sarah Ban Brenneth
- 0:36and she wrote so many wonderful books.
- 0:39Any one of them that you grab is awesome, but there is a quote
- 0:43from her in one of her books that I want to share with you
- 0:45guys today. We think that it's the big
- 0:48moments that define our lives. The wedding, the baby, the new
- 0:51house, the dream job. But really, these big moments of
- 0:54happiness are just punctuation marks.
- 0:57The narrative is written every day in the small and the simple,
- 1:01and that is such an important thing to remember, especially
- 1:06coming up to the end of the year because we get distraught over
- 1:10doing all the little chores. We get distraught over feeling
- 1:14overwhelmed by the chores, the laundry, living life as it is.
- 1:19We allow ourselves to become angry, irritated, frustrated in
- 1:26having to do the mundane things because we do them all the time.
- 1:29So we feel robbed by it. The real question comes down to
- 1:34can you control your thought to say I don't have to feel that
- 1:38way about it? Yes you can.
- 1:39You can choose to recognize that this will not be here.
- 1:42You know my son's bathroom is a chronic issue because he will
- 1:47just destroy his bathroom. I tell him go in and clean it
- 1:50up. He does.
- 1:51Every day I have to say the same things.
- 1:52And you would think, doesn't the kid get it?
- 1:54But it's frustrating because I don't like messes.
- 1:57But I realize, you know, he's not going to be here forever.
- 2:00He's not going to be here forever.
- 2:02And it is. Yes, as one of my friends
- 2:05informed me, you are training another woman's husband.
- 2:08And yes, that is true. I am.
- 2:11But I'm not training him. I'm showing him possibilities of
- 2:15who he gets to be. I don't train people like that
- 2:19it if, especially if they're not wanting it.
- 2:21I'm showing possibilities and I'm showing him that he can be a
- 2:24different person. By deciding to do things
- 2:27differently, I can give him the opportunity to always rise above
- 2:32and choose different things and show different paths to him.
- 2:37And in the process of doing that, one of those things that I
- 2:40want to show him is that you can find appreciation in the
- 2:43mundane. You know, the lessons of monks
- 2:46all around the world is that in the chores, while you're doing
- 2:50your chores, while you're doing all these things that some
- 2:52people may see are not important, mundane things, you
- 2:56can find love you can find and cherish those moments.
- 3:00And I think that that's the piece of it that's so important.
- 3:03You can find that the the actual centeredness in those
- 3:10predictable moments because they are certain you will be doing
- 3:13dishes you will be cleaning. You will be doing that and
- 3:16rather than choosing to find aggravation in it, you can find
- 3:19possibility of peace in it and use that time and actually put
- 3:24your brain on to something different.
- 3:26Now, if you can't control those thoughts and frustration, I
- 3:29highly recommend that you use Audible while you are doing it.
- 3:33And I don't get paid to recommend Audible.
- 3:35Trust me, but I will tell you it is a very useful tool.
- 3:39Put only one earbud in. Even if you have it.
- 3:41You know you want people to feel like you're just zoning out.
- 3:45You're not. Your subconscious mind is
- 3:46constantly absorbing and remembering everything.
- 3:49So allow it to do so and just put one earbud in and then you
- 3:53can still talk to people, but your brain, your subconscious
- 3:55part of you is working on that and calming down and saying to
- 3:59yourself, this is part of the life that we have as human
- 4:03beings. These are part of the things
- 4:05that we do so that we can have those moments to rest our brain
- 4:10and to not be aggravated by it. Aggravation is a choice, my
- 4:14friends. And if you choose to just let it
- 4:16go and say, OK, I'm not going to be aggravated by this, I'm just
- 4:20going to allow it to go. You're actually performing an
- 4:22act that's even bigger than most people realize because you are
- 4:25now in charge of driving that bus.
- 4:27You are in charge of pulling those people back from those
- 4:30driver seats. All those emotions, and you're
- 4:31saying I am in control of this and I choose this instead.
- 4:35Now, this doesn't mean you should run amok and let somebody
- 4:38misuse you and you do all the chores and whatever else it
- 4:41might be that's aggravating in those moments.
- 4:44But the point is, it's about making those choices to say I
- 4:50can, I can put myself into a different headspace with this
- 4:54stuff. I don't have to be so
- 4:57ridiculously hard about it, and I don't have to be so aggravated
- 5:01by it, Because someday it will all be gone.
- 5:03Someday it won't be here. Someday you you will wish you
- 5:06were doing laundry for other people.
- 5:08Someday you wish you were doing the mowing the lawn.
- 5:11Someday you wish you were able to go out and run errands all
- 5:14day long. Because someday you won't be
- 5:16able to. And that day, I promise you.
- 5:20You know, if we're all lucky when it comes, you'll think
- 5:22about this and you'll be like, damn, I wish I had enjoyed that
- 5:25a little bit more. So try it.
- 5:28It really does work. All right, my friends, I hope
- 5:31you have a blessed day and I will see you tomorrow.
- 5:33Bye.
