- 0:00Speaker 1: Welcome everyone to the Monday edition of Fair Territory. I'm
- 0:04Speaker 1: Ken Rosenthal here with you for the next half hour
- 0:06Speaker 1: or so. We're coming off Rivalry Weekend. I hope everyone
- 0:10Speaker 1: enjoyed Rivalry Weekend. Some rivalries more legitimate than others. But
- 0:14Speaker 1: this week, starting tonight, we have a very legitimate rivalry
- 0:19Speaker 1: in a very legitimate penet race. Well it's a little early,
- 0:22Speaker 1: but it's a race, and it's going to be fascinating
- 0:25Speaker 1: to see these two teams come together, as it always is.
- 0:28Speaker 1: Dodgers and Padres at Petco Park. The Dodgers five straight wins,
- 0:33Speaker 1: coming off a sweep of the Never do Well Angels.
- 0:37Speaker 1: They outscore the Angels thirty one to three in that series.
- 0:40Speaker 1: The Padres coming off a sweep of the Mariners. They
- 0:44Speaker 1: are just a half game back in this race, and
- 0:47Speaker 1: it is a fascinating race. Now, the pitching matchups, we'll
- 0:50Speaker 1: get to this first, and then we'll get into the
- 0:52Speaker 1: nitty gritty of this series. Yamamoto versus King tonight, that's
- 0:56Speaker 1: going to be an outstanding one. She and versus Canning tomorrow,
- 1:00Speaker 1: and then in the series finale Otani against Randy Vasquez.
- 1:04Speaker 1: Now the Padres I don't know that they're getting enough attention.
- 1:08Speaker 1: They're one of the most amazing stories in baseball right now.
- 1:12Speaker 1: Why are they amazing because look at the way this
- 1:15Speaker 1: season has evolved for them. If you had told me
- 1:19Speaker 1: an opening day that Nick Poveda would go down as
- 1:22Speaker 1: well as missing you Darvish and Joe Musgrove, that Manny
- 1:26Speaker 1: Machado and Jackson Merrill would have ops's barely above six hundred,
- 1:30Speaker 1: that Fernando Tatis Junior would have no home runs, all
- 1:34Speaker 1: of this about a quarter of the way a little
- 1:37Speaker 1: bit more than that into the season. What would you
- 1:39Speaker 1: have thought. You would have thought the Padres probably were
- 1:42Speaker 1: in some trouble. They're not in trouble. They are one
- 1:46Speaker 1: of the best teams in the National League. And I'll
- 1:49Speaker 1: show you something here that is really interesting regarding their
- 1:53Speaker 1: run differential and the Dodgers run differential. The Dodgers run
- 1:56Speaker 1: differential is plus ninety something, the Padre is plus seven.
- 2:01Speaker 1: Their record you can see right there the difference Dodgers
- 2:05Speaker 1: plus ninety four, Padres plus seven. The Padres record based
- 2:09Speaker 1: on their run differential should be more like twenty four
- 2:11Speaker 1: and twenty two. It's not. They're twenty eight and eighteen,
- 2:15Speaker 1: and you might say, well, how is this happening? We
- 2:18Speaker 1: know of the Padres one great strength, their one great
- 2:21Speaker 1: strength is their bullpen. And while you look at era
- 2:25Speaker 1: might not look that impressive because it doesn't necessarily reflect
- 2:29Speaker 1: entirely what the back end, starting with Mason Miller, can do.
- 2:34Speaker 1: And the back end has protected leads like basically no
- 2:38Speaker 1: other team. The Padres are nineteen and two, leading after
- 2:42Speaker 1: six innings, twenty and one, leading after seven innings, twenty
- 2:47Speaker 1: one to zero, leading after eight. So if they get
- 2:50Speaker 1: a lead, they're winning the game. And that's what the
- 2:52Speaker 1: Dodgers are going to have to contend with. That is
- 2:55Speaker 1: what every team is going to have to contend with,
- 2:57Speaker 1: as they have so far in playing the Padres. If
- 3:00Speaker 1: you don't get the lead early, you're in a lot
- 3:03Speaker 1: of trouble. So the Padres, they still have rotation questions,
- 3:08Speaker 1: but they are easing those questions right now. As I mentioned,
- 3:12Speaker 1: they're without Paveta and they were without Musgrove and Darvish,
- 3:15Speaker 1: but Griffin Canning is back. Little inconsistent so far, but
- 3:19Speaker 1: he is someone who can do some good things in
- 3:22Speaker 1: a rotation. Gilito, Lucas Gilito made his debut for the
- 3:26Speaker 1: season yesterday, five strong innings, and Walker Buehler has sort
- 3:29Speaker 1: of settled into what would be or what will be
- 3:33Speaker 1: now the number five spot. So I'm impressed with the Padres,
- 3:36Speaker 1: really impressed with the Padres. And if Machada and Tatis
- 3:40Speaker 1: and Meryl start going wow, they might really have something. Now.
- 3:44Speaker 1: Of course, you'd have to have the pitching sustain itself
- 3:47Speaker 1: as well. Not everything clicks at once in Major League
- 3:50Speaker 1: Baseball for every team, but that the Padres have accomplished
- 3:53Speaker 1: this with all that has gone against them, that's impressive.
- 3:57Speaker 1: Now the Dodgers Bookie Betts is back, of course, this weekend.
- 4:01Speaker 1: The Angels cured all their hitting woes. The Angels are
- 4:05Speaker 1: a team that is struggling bottom of baseball right now.
- 4:08Speaker 1: And you saw Otani get hot offensively. You saw Kyle
- 4:11Speaker 1: Tucker have a big series offensively. He's been much better
- 4:14Speaker 1: in May. And yet the Dodgers are doing their Dodgers thing,
- 4:17Speaker 1: where pitchers get hurt, pictures get replaced, pitchers get added.
- 4:22Speaker 1: Blake Snell back on the IL needing surgery. Eric Lower
- 4:27Speaker 1: designated for assignment by the Toronto Blue Jays, acquired by
- 4:31Speaker 1: the Dodgers, and here's a guy that is really interesting,
- 4:35Speaker 1: someone who for the Blue Jays last year was a
- 4:38Speaker 1: rotation saver. At one point, Ernie Clement called Eric Lower
- 4:42Speaker 1: the unsung MVP of the team. He had a three
- 4:46Speaker 1: point one point eight ERA in about one hundred and
- 4:48Speaker 1: four innings for the Jays last year. Then, for whatever reason,
- 4:52Speaker 1: things didn't work out this season, loses his arbitration case,
- 4:56Speaker 1: wants to be a starter. They layer over him with
- 4:59Speaker 1: others who, of course got injured, then doesn't pitch, Will
- 5:03Speaker 1: gets Ill, just doesn't have a good season six point
- 5:06Speaker 1: six ninety or a designated for assignment. He's one of
- 5:10Speaker 1: these guys that with the Dodgers, hmmm, he might be
- 5:13Speaker 1: a lot better than he was with the Blue Jays
- 5:15Speaker 1: at least this season. All right, So that's it, Dodgers
- 5:18Speaker 1: Padres coming up.
- 5:20Speaker 2: We love our dog Fella who splays out in the
- 5:22Speaker 2: open sun on our floor like she's an underwear model.
- 5:25Speaker 1: And that's why we love her so much. To scratch
- 5:28Speaker 1: her belly.
- 5:30Speaker 2: She's a cutie.
- 5:31Speaker 3: That BELLA And a quick message from today's sponsor, the

- 6:21Speaker 1: Yesterday, in the Padres Mariners series, we had an exciting debut.
- 6:26Speaker 1: Colt Emerson remember him, He's the guy who signed an
- 6:29Speaker 1: eight year, ninety five million dollar extension not too long ago,
- 6:33Speaker 1: but stayed in the minor leagues. Gets the call at
- 6:36Speaker 1: one twenty five pm Pacific with a four o'clock game
- 6:40Speaker 1: in Seattle. Now he's playing in Tacoma. Tacoma's about a
- 6:44Speaker 1: thirty five mile distance from Seattle. And what happened was
- 6:48Speaker 1: Brendan Donovan had some imaging in the morning. Turns out
- 6:52Speaker 1: his left groin injury is reaggravated. He's got to go
- 6:56Speaker 1: on the il. The Mariners call down to Tacoma. John Russell,
- 7:00Speaker 1: the coma manager, calls Emerson into his office. Emerson says,
- 7:04Speaker 1: do you want me to sit down? John Russell says, no,
- 7:07Speaker 1: you're on the move man. You got to get to Seattle.
- 7:10Speaker 1: And Colt Emerson gets to Seattle, makes his debut last
- 7:13Speaker 1: night at third base. That will not be his long
- 7:16Speaker 1: term position. It will be his short term position for
- 7:19Speaker 1: the Mariners. But once JP Crawford leaves as a free agent,
- 7:23Speaker 1: and that of course is the expectation in Seattle, then
- 7:26Speaker 1: next season Colt Emerson becomes the shortstop. He's a player
- 7:30Speaker 1: to watch. He's one of the top prospects in the game.
- 7:32Speaker 1: Exciting moment for him yesterday. Elsewhere in Major League Baseball,
- 7:37Speaker 1: the Philadelphia Phillies. Now here's a team that fired its
- 7:42Speaker 1: manager with a nine to nineteen record, fired Rob Thompson,
- 7:45Speaker 1: and at the time they were coming off thirteen straight
- 7:49Speaker 1: games against the Cubs and the Braves, and you might
- 7:52Speaker 1: have thought at the time, with the schedule easing, things
- 7:56Speaker 1: are going to get better. It might have gotten better
- 7:59Speaker 1: under Rob Thompson too, but they made the change to
- 8:02Speaker 1: Don Manneley, and since then, of course, the Phillies are
- 8:04Speaker 1: fifteen to four. You can make the case, I would
- 8:08Speaker 1: make the case that they would have revived, revived anyway,
- 8:12Speaker 1: but that's not how Dave Dombrowski, President of Baseball Operations,
- 8:15Speaker 1: saw it. He made the change, and certainly that revival
- 8:18Speaker 1: has come against Yes, a softer schedule, but great things
- 8:23Speaker 1: happening with the Phillies. Harper is hot, Schwarber is on fire,
- 8:27Speaker 1: twenty home runs ten I'm sorry, nine in his last
- 8:30Speaker 1: ten games, and perhaps the most encouraging news of all
- 8:34Speaker 1: for Philadelphia, Zach Wheeler is back. Zach Wheeler and Christopher
- 8:39Speaker 1: Sanchez one of the top one two two one combinations
- 8:43Speaker 1: in Major League Baseball at the top of the rotation.
- 8:46Speaker 1: So the Phillies right now looking formidable again. One other
- 8:50Speaker 1: thing I want to note from the weekend. This was
- 8:52Speaker 1: actually the most fun story of the weekend in my opinion.
- 8:56Speaker 1: What the Chicago White Sox did in their Crosstown Classic
- 8:59Speaker 1: against the Chicago Cubs. White Sox won two of three
- 9:03Speaker 1: in that series. They're now twenty four and twenty two overall,
- 9:07Speaker 1: two games over five hundred the Chicago White Sox, and
- 9:10Speaker 1: they're just one game behind Cleveland in the AL Central. Now,
- 9:14Speaker 1: this is another team outperforming its run differential. White Sox
- 9:18Speaker 1: run differential is negative seven, so maybe they should be
- 9:21Speaker 1: a little bit below five hundred instead of a little
- 9:23Speaker 1: bit above. But that's not the reality. And the reality
- 9:27Speaker 1: is the White Sox have three hitters Moricamie, Montgomery and
- 9:32Speaker 1: Vargas who are legitimate major league hitters. They are a
- 9:36Speaker 1: team that right now ranks tenth in the majors and
- 9:39Speaker 1: runs per game tenth. Rookie Sam Antonacci has also given
- 9:43Speaker 1: them a lift. They've done some really good things offensively, rotation,
- 9:49Speaker 1: Davis Martin's been really good. The rest of it. Okay,
- 9:51Speaker 1: bullpen a bit of an issue, but Brian Hudson's been good,
- 9:56Speaker 1: Sean Noacomb's been good, Grand Tiller, They've got pieces, and
- 9:59Speaker 1: they've been a fun team to watch. Chicago this weekend
- 10:03Speaker 1: was on fire in a way it hasn't been in
- 10:05Speaker 1: quite some time for this series. So the White Sox,
- 10:09Speaker 1: I don't want to say they're totally back, but they're
- 10:12Speaker 1: a lot more interesting than they've been. They're a lot
- 10:14Speaker 1: of fun again and it's fun to watch them doing
- 10:17Speaker 1: their thing in Chicago. All Right, we will be back
- 10:20Speaker 1: right after this with the Inside Dish, and the subject
- 10:24Speaker 1: is the New York Mets. Time out for the Inside
- 10:34Speaker 1: Dish the part of the show where I talk about
- 10:35Speaker 1: maybe a story i've written, trend in the games, something
- 10:38Speaker 1: I've seen, and today I'm going to talk about the Mets.
- 10:42Speaker 1: And the reason I'm going to talk about the Mets
- 10:44Speaker 1: is they remain a study in fascination. I've seen them
- 10:47Speaker 1: the last two weekends, first in Arizona and then this
- 10:50Speaker 1: weekend in the Subway series against New York and Friday night,
- 10:55Speaker 1: it seemed that the Mets season was effectively over night.
- 11:00Speaker 1: If you didn't see it, Clay Holmes, their ace right
- 11:03Speaker 1: handed pitcher, was struck in the leg by a drive
- 11:06Speaker 1: by the Yankee Spencer Jones suffered a fractured fibula. Continued
- 11:10Speaker 1: pitching by the way for several hitters after that, which
- 11:13Speaker 1: makes him serious due to the weak material, but Holmes
- 11:17Speaker 1: goes down. Now, Clay Holmes is a highly respected guy
- 11:23Speaker 1: really all over the game. He's beloved by players and
- 11:26Speaker 1: especially of course in his own clubhouse. And the next day,
- 11:30Speaker 1: walking into Carlos Mendoza's office, we talked with him as
- 11:33Speaker 1: part of our preparation for the Fox broadcast, and Mendoza said,
- 11:38Speaker 1: of all the injuries, this one hit the hardest, It
- 11:41Speaker 1: hit the clubhouse the hardest. It was the one that
- 11:44Speaker 1: affected the guys the most. And the reason for that
- 11:47Speaker 1: one obviously Holmes's skill, his popularity within the team, the
- 11:52Speaker 1: respect for his work ethic, but also Holmes represented, along
- 11:56Speaker 1: with Freddy Peralta and Nolan McClain, the Met's best hope,
- 12:01Speaker 1: that rotation, those top three, that was the Mets' best
- 12:04Speaker 1: hope for getting back into contention. And at that moment,
- 12:08Speaker 1: after Friday Night, leading into Saturday's game, after losing the
- 12:11Speaker 1: opener of the Subway series to the Yankees, it seemed
- 12:14Speaker 1: the Mets season was over. Remember, nearly half of their lineup,
- 12:19Speaker 1: Francisco Lindor, Luis Robert Junior, Jorge Polanco, Francisco Alvarez, nearly
- 12:24Speaker 1: half the lineup was already on the injured list, some
- 12:28Speaker 1: of the replacements, Ronnie Morasio, Ronnie Maurisio for Lindor and
- 12:33Speaker 1: Mike Takman and Jared Young. These guys are also on
- 12:36Speaker 1: the IL and a number of these players do not
- 12:40Speaker 1: appear that they're going to be back anytime soon. So
- 12:45Speaker 1: what happened the rest of the weekend. This is why
- 12:47Speaker 1: baseball is the most amazing sport. I can say this,
- 12:50Speaker 1: and I say it all the time. I refer to it.
- 12:53Speaker 1: Actually with what I said about the Padres, what they're
- 12:55Speaker 1: doing is amazing, and what the Mets did the next
- 12:57Speaker 1: two days was amazing as well. The Mets rallied to
- 13:01Speaker 1: win the two games remaining in the series against the Yankees.
- 13:05Speaker 1: And yesterday they're down five to one. They're messing up
- 13:09Speaker 1: all over the place. Bobacht drops a pop up. There
- 13:12Speaker 1: be in the Mets, and yet they showed incredible resolve.
- 13:15Speaker 1: They came back against the Yankees closer David Bednar two
- 13:19Speaker 1: outs in the ninth inning, three run homer by Tyrone Taylor,
- 13:23Speaker 1: they tied the score. Then they win it in the
- 13:25Speaker 1: tenth on a walk off hit by Carson benje in
- 13:28Speaker 1: the infield. Now where are the Mets then? Are they
- 13:32Speaker 1: going to be good enough to get back into this race.
- 13:35Speaker 1: Can the two kids, Carson Benge and aj Ewing help
- 13:39Speaker 1: bring them energy and lift them as they have so
- 13:42Speaker 1: far for the rest of the season. The odds are
- 13:45Speaker 1: against it. Let's face it. The Mets right now, as
- 13:49Speaker 1: you look at the division race, are eleven and a
- 13:52Speaker 1: half games behind the Atlanta Braves, eleven and a half
- 13:55Speaker 1: games with the season more than a quarter complete. In
- 13:58Speaker 1: the wildcard race, there's seven games back, and as I mentioned,
- 14:03Speaker 1: a number of their injured guys are not close to
- 14:06Speaker 1: coming back. If they have those players, you'd say, okay,
- 14:10Speaker 1: they can go on a big run here and maybe
- 14:11Speaker 1: do some things and maybe get back not only into
- 14:15Speaker 1: the wildcard race, but maybe even in the division race.
- 14:17Speaker 1: It's a long season. Things even out over the course
- 14:20Speaker 1: of a season. But the National League is quite strong.
- 14:23Speaker 1: You see it right there. San Diego, Milwaukee, Saint Louis.
- 14:27Speaker 1: These are teams that are the leaders in the wildcard
- 14:30Speaker 1: race right now. Philadelphia is coming. Pittsburgh and Cincinnati, while
- 14:35Speaker 1: struggling at the moment, are teams that have proven to
- 14:37Speaker 1: be more competitive this year. National League is a heck
- 14:40Speaker 1: of a lot better than the American League. We know
- 14:42Speaker 1: that if the Mets win in the American League, sure yeah,
- 14:45Speaker 1: they'd have a better chance. But to secure a playoff
- 14:49Speaker 1: berth in the National League, you're probably going to need
- 14:52Speaker 1: to win ninety games, right, It's that good a league.
- 14:56Speaker 1: To get to ninety wins, the Mets have to go
- 14:58Speaker 1: seventy and forty six. That doesn't seem likely possible. You
- 15:03Speaker 1: can't rule out anything, but without Holmes, now, with their
- 15:06Speaker 1: rotation kind of still in this uncertain state, it seems
- 15:10Speaker 1: unlikely they're going seventy and forty six. So where are
- 15:14Speaker 1: we in the big picture? The thirty thousand foot few
- 15:17Speaker 1: with the Mets, of course, they have the second largest
- 15:20Speaker 1: payroll in the game at three hundred and seventy million.
- 15:23Speaker 1: Of course, their president of Baseball Operations, David Stearns, has
- 15:26Speaker 1: come under great scrutiny for this dramatic overhaul of the
- 15:30Speaker 1: roster that has been a talking point the entire offseason
- 15:34Speaker 1: and into the season. The one thing Stearns has admitted
- 15:38Speaker 1: so far that might have been a miscalculation on his
- 15:41Speaker 1: part was not putting enough stock in the injury risk
- 15:46Speaker 1: of some of the players he acquired, specifically Robert Junior
- 15:50Speaker 1: and Jorge Polanco, these guys have been hit or hurt.
- 15:53Speaker 1: I'm sorry before and as I've often said, and it's
- 15:57Speaker 1: kind of a accepted premise in the game, past injuries
- 16:02Speaker 1: are the best predictor of future injuries. Now, Polanco was
- 16:05Speaker 1: healthy last season, but he's had some stuff over the years.
- 16:09Speaker 1: Luis Robert Junior never seems to be healthy. And when
- 16:12Speaker 1: you're bringing those players as replacements, not directly but indirectly
- 16:18Speaker 1: for players who are quite durable Pete Alonso, Brandon Nimo,
- 16:22Speaker 1: it looks all that much worse. So that is one problem,
- 16:27Speaker 1: another problem, and I wrote about this today at length
- 16:30Speaker 1: in The Athletic Bobachett. Bobachet was the Met's biggest acquisition
- 16:35Speaker 1: three years, one hundred and twenty six million on the
- 16:37Speaker 1: free agent market, with two opt outs in that deal.
- 16:41Speaker 1: And Bobaschet is struggling in innumerable ways, mostly offensively, actually
- 16:47Speaker 1: entirely offensively, defensively starting a third base then going back
- 16:51Speaker 1: to shortstop when Lindor and Maurisio were hurt. He actually
- 16:54Speaker 1: has been pretty good, but offensively, no, it hasn't happened
- 16:58Speaker 1: for him, and it's been shocking because the one thing
- 17:00Speaker 1: Bobaschett has always done in his career. The one thing
- 17:03Speaker 1: the Mets thought they could count on with Bashett was
- 17:07Speaker 1: the fact that he would hit. The dude always hits.
- 17:10Speaker 1: But this season it hasn't happened. And in the column
- 17:14Speaker 1: that I wrote today, I go into a number of
- 17:17Speaker 1: possible reasons for why he is struggling, and I discussed
- 17:20Speaker 1: each of them with Bashett, and one of them, obviously,
- 17:24Speaker 1: is trying to impress with the new team in the
- 17:27Speaker 1: biggest market in the country and the pressure that comes
- 17:30Speaker 1: with that. On top of that, there is pressure that
- 17:33Speaker 1: he is feeling trying to produce with so many players,
- 17:37Speaker 1: key players with the Mets who are injured on the
- 17:39Speaker 1: injured list. So you put that just as a starting
- 17:44Speaker 1: point with Bashett, that's the starting point. Then he is
- 17:48Speaker 1: one of the most unlucky hitters in the league. You
- 17:51Speaker 1: can look at the expected stats. You can look at
- 17:52Speaker 1: some stats from Sports Info Solutions that I refer to
- 17:55Speaker 1: in the story. He has had the most good fielding
- 17:59Speaker 1: plays as the Sports Info Solutions against him of any
- 18:03Speaker 1: player in the majors. Fourteen plays that they classify as
- 18:07Speaker 1: good fielding plays have gone against bobaschet So he's had
- 18:10Speaker 1: poor luck. Same time, there are some other things going
- 18:13Speaker 1: on with him, possibly mechanically, and then there is the
- 18:17Speaker 1: idea or the reality for him that he's had to
- 18:20Speaker 1: learn a new position then go back to his old position.
- 18:23Speaker 1: This is all part of the stew with Bobashett as well.
- 18:27Speaker 1: And finally there is the contract. And this is interesting
- 18:31Speaker 1: because of course he signed for the big money and
- 18:33Speaker 1: there is pressure that comes with that. And when guys
- 18:36Speaker 1: change teams free agents, change teams for big money, it
- 18:40Speaker 1: is not surprising when they struggle. It happens a lot.
- 18:44Speaker 1: It's happened to Kyle Tucker this year, It's happened to
- 18:46Speaker 1: Pete Alonzo this year. Hasn't happened with Kyle Schwarber and
- 18:49Speaker 1: Cody Bellinger, Why because they didn't change teams. Now, maybe
- 18:52Speaker 1: I'm oversimplifying, but generally speaking, there is an adjustment period
- 18:57Speaker 1: for players when they get the big money change teams.
- 19:00Speaker 1: That is certainly happening with Bishett, and he's doing it
- 19:03Speaker 1: in the biggest market of all New York. On top
- 19:06Speaker 1: of that, he has the opt outs in the contract
- 19:09Speaker 1: after year one and year two, so effectively he can
- 19:13Speaker 1: leave the Mets after one season re enter the free
- 19:16Speaker 1: agent market age twenty nine and in a weak free
- 19:20Speaker 1: agent market, maybe hit it even bigger than he did
- 19:23Speaker 1: this passed offseason. Well, I would bet that's in Bob
- 19:27Speaker 1: Baschet's head a little bit too. How can it not
- 19:29Speaker 1: be He is effectively in his free agent year again.
- 19:33Speaker 1: And while yes, no one's going to feel sorry for
- 19:37Speaker 1: him because he'll get a five million dollar buyout on
- 19:41Speaker 1: top of his forty seven million dollars a forty two
- 19:43Speaker 1: million dollars salary, a total of forty seven million if
- 19:47Speaker 1: he leaves the Mets after one year forty seven million
- 19:50Speaker 1: for one year, no one's gonna feel sorry for We
- 19:53Speaker 1: all know that no one's going to have sympathy for
- 19:55Speaker 1: this kind of quandary. But at the same time, might
- 19:59Speaker 1: this messing with his head? Yes, it might be messing
- 20:02Speaker 1: with his head and bishit As I close the column.
- 20:05Speaker 1: What he says is the thing that I'm thinking about
- 20:08Speaker 1: is I just want to be the player the Mets
- 20:11Speaker 1: sign me to be. He needs to be that player
- 20:14Speaker 1: for them, especially with all the injuries. Do I expect
- 20:16Speaker 1: it to come? Yes? I expect Boguschett at some point
- 20:19Speaker 1: to be much more like the player we saw in
- 20:22Speaker 1: Toronto all those years. Do I expect the Mets to
- 20:26Speaker 1: be the player or the team? I should say we
- 20:28Speaker 1: expected them to be. I can't say I expect that,
- 20:33Speaker 1: because there's just too big a mountain to climb. But
- 20:36Speaker 1: this weekend certainly was encouraging. The performances of benj and
- 20:40Speaker 1: Ewing have been encouraging. Juan Soto is being Juan Soto,
- 20:44Speaker 1: so it's not hopeless. It's certainly without Clay Holmes, a
- 20:49Speaker 1: much more difficult uphill battle. But at the same time,
- 20:53Speaker 1: the Mets are going to be as they have been
- 20:55Speaker 1: virtually every year of their existence, a fascinating team to watch.
- 21:00Speaker 1: We'll be back with grueling Kin right after this.

- 22:09Speaker 1: All right, time out for grilling Ken the part of
- 22:11Speaker 1: the show where I answer your questions. Let's get to it.
- 22:15Speaker 1: See Carrera nine to five to one. Will the Chicago
- 22:18Speaker 1: White Sox make the twenty six playoffs? Yes or no?
- 22:21Speaker 1: If you had to answer today, I'm still going to
- 22:24Speaker 1: say no, and I'm still going to say no because
- 22:27Speaker 1: I don't believe they're going to win the division. The
- 22:29Speaker 1: Guardian's offense looks like it might be real for the
- 22:33Speaker 1: first time in a while, and that's with Kwan and
- 22:35Speaker 1: Ramirez struggling. They've gotten some great work out of Angel
- 22:39Speaker 1: Ramirez and some others as well. Angel Martinez I'm sorry,
- 22:42Speaker 1: and they're a team that they pitched so well. If
- 22:46Speaker 1: they get any kind of offense, they should be in
- 22:48Speaker 1: really good shape. I also believe that the Tigers one
- 22:52Speaker 1: schoolbol gets back once they're pitching gets a little bit
- 22:55Speaker 1: more in order, are going to be in a good
- 22:57Speaker 1: place as well. They have not played well, but there's
- 23:01Speaker 1: still a very formidable team. And then you have the
- 23:04Speaker 1: Yankees and Rays in the East, you have the Mariners
- 23:07Speaker 1: in the West. Is it possible the White Sox could
- 23:09Speaker 1: slip in as a wildcard somewhere? Yes, they're going to
- 23:13Speaker 1: need bullpen help. They're going to need to sustain what
- 23:17Speaker 1: they've done so far. Maybe they can, and the league
- 23:20Speaker 1: is so weak that maybe another injury or two here
- 23:23Speaker 1: or there to other teams will enhance the White Sox
- 23:27Speaker 1: chances that much more. But as of now, sorry, I'm
- 23:31Speaker 1: still not going to bet on them to make the playoffs.
- 23:34Speaker 1: All right. Next question, this comes from Video Game Nation
- 23:37Speaker 1: twenty six. With the Red Sox having a very underwhelming
- 23:40Speaker 1: season so far, when do you sell pieces off? Do
- 23:44Speaker 1: you sell pieces now or at the beginning of July
- 23:46Speaker 1: and hope you can get back into it. They're not
- 23:48Speaker 1: going to give up yet, and they're not going to
- 23:50Speaker 1: give up yet. For the reason I just stated, the
- 23:52Speaker 1: American League is weak, so I believe the Red Sox
- 23:56Speaker 1: this morning are only three three and a half games
- 23:58Speaker 1: out of the wildcard rate. So at that point you're thinking,
- 24:02Speaker 1: all right, we get hot, we get our offense going,
- 24:05Speaker 1: maybe they will, maybe they won't. Certainly isn't going right now,
- 24:09Speaker 1: then we have a chance they certainly pitch well enough
- 24:12Speaker 1: now come July. If it's not looking great, then you
- 24:16Speaker 1: do sell pieces off, but you don't give up yet.
- 24:19Speaker 1: And yes, a Roldis Chapman, when he was doing his
- 24:22Speaker 1: hugs the other night going into the bullpen, people thought,
- 24:24Speaker 1: here cover the Red Sox selling off pieces already. It
- 24:27Speaker 1: didn't happen. It was a false hug watch. So the
- 24:31Speaker 1: Red Sox will remain intact, at least for the foreseeable future.
- 24:35Speaker 1: All right, I want to thank you everyone for watching
- 24:37Speaker 1: and for listening. Foul Territory coming up at one pm Eastern.
