- 0:05Speaker 1: Leon its results muckmall. That's what it's called bej devina
- 0:28Speaker 1: at that part up. So, this demon fish, known by
- 0:31Speaker 1: the locals as the muck Mall, had been terrorizing the
- 0:35Speaker 1: had been terrorizing the ports for better part of seventy years.
- 0:40Speaker 1: And after visiting the local dives around the city, he
- 0:45Speaker 1: learns from some of the fishermen that about seventy years ago,
- 0:49Speaker 1: there were these foolish boys that had been playing games
- 0:53Speaker 1: near the lakeside. They'd done some fishing, and they did
- 0:58Speaker 1: some stuff that were not really kosher, not using I'm
- 1:03Speaker 1: not sure. So these boys were playing around and they
- 1:08Speaker 1: wanted to see how long it would take for some
- 1:10Speaker 1: fish they caught to suffocate. So they pulled them out
- 1:13Speaker 1: of the water and laid them on the ground outside
- 1:15Speaker 1: of the water, and they just wanted to see how
- 1:17Speaker 1: long the fish would last. Right, that's kind of fucked up, yeap.
- 1:22Speaker 1: The thing is is that their little game attracted the
- 1:26Speaker 1: attention of a certain man sorcerer, of a certain sorcerer
- 1:32Speaker 1: with blood red hair and pale skin. It was Dursa
- 1:37Speaker 1: the shade.
- 1:39Speaker 2: Oh like not you, I'm pale skin and red hair.
- 1:47Speaker 1: Okay. In the world of Allegasia, there are these beings
- 1:50Speaker 1: called shades. Shades are sorcerers in the inheritance cycle. Sorcerers
- 1:57Speaker 1: are magicians who use the ancient languish to summon spirits
- 2:02Speaker 1: to serve them. The thing is, sorcery is very dangerous
- 2:06Speaker 1: because compelling spirits to do their bidding is considered is
- 2:11Speaker 1: very dangerous because if they summon the wrong kind of spirit,
- 2:14Speaker 1: those spirits can possess you. And when they and when
- 2:18Speaker 1: they possess you, they turn you into a shade. And
- 2:21Speaker 1: shades are very powerful. They are very powerful spell casters,
- 2:26Speaker 1: and they're also physically more powerful. So in er in
- 2:31Speaker 1: the Aragon world, if you naturally have more magic in
- 2:37Speaker 1: your body, it does have it does have a physical
- 2:40Speaker 1: effect on you. So for elves who are who have
- 2:46Speaker 1: the highest amount of magic users and they are naturally
- 2:51Speaker 1: they naturally have more magic than humans do. They are
- 2:55Speaker 1: physically more powerful than humans. So elves are stronger, they're faster,
- 3:01Speaker 1: all right. They're often described as even at their weakest,
- 3:05Speaker 1: they are described as still being stronger than the strongest man.
- 3:07Speaker 1: So if they're like physically incapacitated, they could still break
- 3:11Speaker 1: your neck with ease. And shades are no different but
- 3:17Speaker 1: shades are even stronger than elves. Yeah, and Durza was
- 3:23Speaker 1: a shade that had been terrorizing Allegasia for a little
- 3:26Speaker 1: over one hundred years, and he had actually at one
- 3:28Speaker 1: point was serving Galbatorux. The thing is, as it turns out,
- 3:34Speaker 1: this this very shade Durza created the muck Maw. He
- 3:37Speaker 1: saw the boys playing, he saw what the boys were doing,
- 3:40Speaker 1: and the boys were terrified of him. But he but
- 3:42Speaker 1: he was like, oh, it's just a game, right, Let's
- 3:44Speaker 1: watch and see who which of these fish lasts the longest.
- 3:49Speaker 1: So they watch as like there was like about four
- 3:51Speaker 1: or five fish that were just flopping on the ground.
- 3:54Speaker 1: All but one of them dies. On the very last
- 3:57Speaker 1: one that starts to die, Dursa picks it up, casts
- 4:00Speaker 1: a spell on it, and throws it back in the water.
- 4:02Speaker 1: A few years later, that very same fish shows up,
- 4:05Speaker 1: but it's bigger and it's meaner, and it was believed
- 4:11Speaker 1: that Derza had placed a curse on that fish to
- 4:14Speaker 1: not only transform it into the muck Maw, but this
- 4:18Speaker 1: the Muckmaw would be compelled to track down those boys.
- 4:24Speaker 1: So for the next seventy years, anytime those boys would
- 4:27Speaker 1: get even close to the close to the to the lake,
- 4:30Speaker 1: Muckmah would show up and tear shit up. It would
- 4:34Speaker 1: destroy ships like small It wasn't big enough to destroy
- 4:37Speaker 1: like an entire sea galleon, but it was big enough
- 4:39Speaker 1: to destroy small fishing boats. It would eat any animal
- 4:44Speaker 1: getting too close to this, getting too close to the
- 4:46Speaker 1: shore fishermen. It was just a terror. And the thing
- 4:52Speaker 1: about it is is that Durza had already placed had
- 4:54Speaker 1: also placed enchantments on it that would make it like
- 4:58Speaker 1: very hard to catch sure as well as kill. So
- 5:02Speaker 1: for seventy years people have been trying to kill the Muckma,
- 5:05Speaker 1: but without much success. Now Murtog had to do that.
- 5:10Speaker 1: But Murtog was confident because they never a dragon, They
- 5:14Speaker 1: never had a dragon writer try it before. So they
- 5:17Speaker 1: figure out that the Muckma. He figures out that the
- 5:21Speaker 1: Muckma would often could often be found in a certain
- 5:26Speaker 1: in a certain marshy area by the lake. So he
- 5:29Speaker 1: leaves the city with and goes back to Thorn and
- 5:32Speaker 1: they fly to this marsh. The thing is, though he
- 5:36Speaker 1: needed another He needed something specific in order to in
- 5:39Speaker 1: order to properly capture the muckmauh. The Werekat had told
- 5:44Speaker 1: him that he would need a scale, a dragon scale,
- 5:49Speaker 1: but not just any dragon scale. He would need the
- 5:53Speaker 1: dragon scale of the dead dragon later ooh, And the
- 6:01Speaker 1: thing is that Murtog the entire time that he was
- 6:03Speaker 1: in the city was he been. He was really just
- 6:07Speaker 1: battling his guilt and his like memories of the last
- 6:10Speaker 1: time he was in Gilead, Because the last time he
- 6:12Speaker 1: was in Gilead, he he was leading the forces of
- 6:15Speaker 1: Galbatorux against the elves, and he himself personally fought Aramis.
- 6:21Speaker 1: And this was where and it was over Gillilead that
- 6:25Speaker 1: Murtog had killed Oramis and Glater. And the thing is
- 6:29Speaker 1: is that Glater was so large that when he fell
- 6:32Speaker 1: from the sky, the elves, rather than take his body
- 6:38Speaker 1: somewhere else, they had buried it. They had burned it
- 6:41Speaker 1: and buried the remains deep within, like deep beneath the earth,
- 6:46Speaker 1: just outside of the city and above where his where
- 6:50Speaker 1: his body was buried, they had planted a large tree.
- 6:54Speaker 1: So he needed to get a good, good line of rope,
- 7:00Speaker 1: and he needed a scale from Glater's body. The thing is, though,
- 7:07Speaker 1: is that in order to get the scale, he had
- 7:09Speaker 1: to be very careful because he knew that the elves
- 7:12Speaker 1: would have placed protective wards around the body to prevent
- 7:16Speaker 1: anybody from trying to loot it. Because dragon skills are
- 7:20Speaker 1: pretty pressure are pretty valuable, he knew he couldn't use
- 7:24Speaker 1: a spell to like just directly call a scale from
- 7:27Speaker 1: under the earth to him, So, getting clever, he uses
- 7:29Speaker 1: a spell to rather, instead of grabbing a scale directly
- 7:34Speaker 1: and pulling it out of the earth, he uses it
- 7:36Speaker 1: to put to draw water from the surrounding area and
- 7:39Speaker 1: push a dragon scale up from beneath the earth, and
- 7:45Speaker 1: he manages to succeed. And the thing is, he made
- 7:50Speaker 1: a mistake of grabbing the scale directly and it does
- 7:53Speaker 1: trigger a a ward which alerts the nearby the elves
- 7:58Speaker 1: in the city, and one of the elves began attacking
- 8:02Speaker 1: h Murtog mentally, and Murtog was able to fight to
- 8:06Speaker 1: fight the elf off. And the thing is, elves they're
- 8:10Speaker 1: very powerful mental duellists, and while Murtog is no is
- 8:15Speaker 1: no novice in mental duels, still, elves are pretty challenging
- 8:18Speaker 1: and he manages to uh get He manages to break
- 8:22Speaker 1: the mental connection with the elf by grabbing his dagger
- 8:26Speaker 1: and stabbing himself and in the leg. Because thing about
- 8:31Speaker 1: mental duels, you can easily distract the assailant on your
- 8:36Speaker 1: mind by causing yourself some form of physical pain, because
- 8:40Speaker 1: they'll feel that pain and it'll kind of cause them
- 8:43Speaker 1: to like the like ow. And he was able to
- 8:48Speaker 1: break the connection. And once he was able to do that,
- 8:51Speaker 1: he immediately dropped the scale, pulled out a little sack,
- 8:54Speaker 1: and uh carefully pick it up without making physical like
- 8:57Speaker 1: skin contact with it. I'm sorry, Am I putting you sleep? No? Okay,
- 9:06Speaker 1: I'm putting okay, I'm just checking because I see you closing.
- 9:09Speaker 3: Your eyes and you know, I don't want to repeat
- 9:11Speaker 3: it that one time got up Okay, I'm all right,
- 9:15Speaker 3: I'm okay. I am a little a little tired. Okay,
- 9:20Speaker 3: but continue, but little I've also up put like I
- 9:23Speaker 3: was up at like five point thirty okay for a
- 9:26Speaker 3: long for a long while. But I'm still I'm still listening.
- 9:30Speaker 3: The last time I did kind of doze off. Okay, okay,
- 9:35Speaker 3: I got you, my god, Oh.
- 9:42Speaker 1: Anyway, he manages so anyway, as I was saying, Murtog
- 9:46Speaker 1: manages to carefully pick up the golden scale using a
- 9:50Speaker 1: cloth and puts it in a sack, making sure not
- 9:53Speaker 1: to touch it, and the thing is though when the
- 9:57Speaker 1: elf was it was assaulting him. Some of the nearby
- 10:00Speaker 1: people noticed that he had a dragon scale and immediately
- 10:03Speaker 1: called for help, but Murtock manages to escape. He and
- 10:07Speaker 1: Thorn take off and had immediately straight for the marsh.
- 10:12Speaker 1: Carefully tying the dragon scale to a ligne, he throws
- 10:17Speaker 1: it into the water and using his own mind, he
- 10:19Speaker 1: tries to scan and see if he could detect the
- 10:22Speaker 1: muck Ma, but for some reason, his mind is not
- 10:25Speaker 1: able to touch the muck Mah's mind. Thorn also uses
- 10:29Speaker 1: his own mind to try to sense Muckmah, and while
- 10:31Speaker 1: he does sense it, he describes its mind as like
- 10:35Speaker 1: something slippery, like every time he tries to make contact
- 10:37Speaker 1: with the Muckma, it's like it's mind just slips out
- 10:40Speaker 1: of his mental grasp. So that's another trap. That's another trap,
- 10:46Speaker 1: like another ward that Derza had placed on the muckm
- 10:51Speaker 1: Like Durza had placed an extensive amount of words on
- 10:54Speaker 1: the muckment to make it as hard to kill and
- 10:58Speaker 1: capture as possible. Murtog tries to use the name of
- 11:03Speaker 1: names to strip it of the wards, but every time
- 11:06Speaker 1: he used it, the wards would just come back, and
- 11:08Speaker 1: at first he thought, oh great, is this another wordless
- 11:12Speaker 1: spell in place? But then he realizes that nope, Derza
- 11:16Speaker 1: had placed specific wards on the Muckmaw that would basically
- 11:23Speaker 1: like every time one ward would fail, another one would activate.
- 11:27Speaker 1: So there were like layers and layers of layers of
- 11:30Speaker 1: wards placed on the stupid fish. So again Murtog was like,
- 11:36Speaker 1: all right, I'm gonna have to get my hands dirty.
- 11:38Speaker 1: So he does manage to use the scale to hook
- 11:42Speaker 1: the Muckmah and with Thorn's help, they do snare it.
- 11:48Speaker 1: But the thing is, Muckmah turns out to be more
- 11:50Speaker 1: intelligent and it ends up pulling Murtog deeper into the water.
- 11:56Speaker 1: While in the water, Murtog notices that there was like
- 12:00Speaker 1: a large amount of dead bodies in this marsh. Uh.
- 12:05Speaker 1: He later realizes that this was the last the last
- 12:09Speaker 1: battleground between the Galbatorus's soldiers and the elves. The elves
- 12:14Speaker 1: had pushed the the the remaining soldiers into the marsh
- 12:19Speaker 1: and they had ended up drowning or being eaten by
- 12:21Speaker 1: the muck mal So it was a pretty shocking sight
- 12:24Speaker 1: for Murtog, and something that later throughout the book, he's
- 12:27Speaker 1: not able to really forget because you know, most of
- 12:30Speaker 1: the men that served Galbatorus, they were coerced, they were
- 12:35Speaker 1: forced into servitude, and when the Barden took over, uh
- 12:43Speaker 1: Aragon had used the name of Names to release every
- 12:47Speaker 1: person that was forced to swear allegiance to Galbaltarus in
- 12:51Speaker 1: the ancient language. He releases them. And because of that,
- 12:56Speaker 1: the Masuata had given the old soldiers a choice. You
- 13:00Speaker 1: can continue. We'll let you continue as a soldier as
- 13:03Speaker 1: so long as you swear allegiance to me in the
- 13:06Speaker 1: comment ngue, not in the ancient language. We're not going
- 13:08Speaker 1: to force you into that kind of servitude. Or you
- 13:11Speaker 1: could just go home. You're released from your service. Most
- 13:15Speaker 1: of the soldiers went home, which understandable, like most of
- 13:19Speaker 1: them didn't even want to be a soldier. They were
- 13:21Speaker 1: forced to beat Galbatorus's soldiers. But still, seeing that these
- 13:26Speaker 1: men had been so like needlessly slaughtered and put into
- 13:30Speaker 1: a watery grave deeply affected him. And then anyway back
- 13:35Speaker 1: to the point he was dragged deep under the water
- 13:37Speaker 1: by the muckmaw and he didn't have his sword on,
- 13:40Speaker 1: he didn't have his sword handy. Well, he did have it,
- 13:42Speaker 1: but it got knocked out of his hands, and when
- 13:46Speaker 1: the Muckmaw pushed him down to the to the bottom
- 13:49Speaker 1: of the of the marsh bed, he managed to snag
- 13:54Speaker 1: a spear from the bottom of the He manages to
- 13:58Speaker 1: grab a spear from the bottom of the water, and
- 14:00Speaker 1: he jabs it into the Muckmah's head, and surprisingly that
- 14:05Speaker 1: does manage to kill the Muckmah. All this other shit,
- 14:08Speaker 1: all these words and like, he manages to grab the
- 14:10Speaker 1: one thing that can kill it, a stick. But granted
- 14:14Speaker 1: he stabbed it through the eye. Think about Murtog is
- 14:18Speaker 1: that because of what Galbatorks had done to him as well.
- 14:23Speaker 1: Murtog is about as strong as an as an elf. Granted,
- 14:27Speaker 1: after Galviators was defeated and Murtog gave the Eldnari away,
- 14:33Speaker 1: he lost most of that strength because it was coming
- 14:35Speaker 1: from like an enchantment, but he's still much stronger than
- 14:38Speaker 1: a normal human. So when he stabs the Muckmah and
- 14:41Speaker 1: the eye like, he drives that thing right through its
- 14:44Speaker 1: brain and Muckmah dies floats to the surface. Thorn was
- 14:49Speaker 1: able to pull Murtog out of the water and after
- 14:53Speaker 1: recovering for a bit and retrieving his sword, they quickly
- 14:56Speaker 1: pull the Muckmah onto the shore. Murtog cuts off its head,
- 15:01Speaker 1: wraps it in a blanket, and the two of them
- 15:03Speaker 1: head back to the The two of them head back
- 15:07Speaker 1: to the city. Murtog decides to wait until the like
- 15:10Speaker 1: closer to the morning, because this was all happening in
- 15:12Speaker 1: the dead of night, and just as he was leaving,
- 15:17Speaker 1: a couple of fishermen comes upon him. Thorn quickly hides,
- 15:20Speaker 1: which surprises Murtog because Thorns is a pretty big dragon.
- 15:25Speaker 1: But it was like it was funny because like when
- 15:26Speaker 1: the fishermen come upon them, like Murtog looks away from Thorn,
- 15:30Speaker 1: looks back, and Thorn is just gone, Like you can
- 15:33Speaker 1: see that little imp, that little outline, Like so like, wow,
- 15:39Speaker 1: dragons are surprisingly stealthy. Yeah, but when the fisherman comes
- 15:45Speaker 1: upon Murtog and sees the corpse of the Muckmah, they're
- 15:47Speaker 1: really shocked. And he's like, you killed it. He's like, yeah,
- 15:51Speaker 1: it almost killed me, but I got it. Listen, you
- 15:54Speaker 1: guys can do whatever you want with the body, like
- 15:57Speaker 1: takes he grabs like he grabs his he the head,
- 16:01Speaker 1: slings it over his shoulder and he's like, this is
- 16:02Speaker 1: all I need and just walks off. They wait. Murtog
- 16:08Speaker 1: waits until it's closer the morning. He carefully sneaks back
- 16:11Speaker 1: into the city. Luckily, the people that saw him steal
- 16:16Speaker 1: the dragon the dragon scale did not really see his face,
- 16:19Speaker 1: so he wasn't really worried about being recognized. He takes
- 16:23Speaker 1: the head to the first company. He was told by
- 16:26Speaker 1: the wearcat that the captain of the first company will
- 16:30Speaker 1: accept him if he will accept him if he brings
- 16:34Speaker 1: the muckmaas head, because there had been a reward put
- 16:38Speaker 1: out for the muckma's head and captain of the the
- 16:43Speaker 1: captain of the guard was the one who put out
- 16:45Speaker 1: the balance he for the muckmah and he would grant him,
- 16:50Speaker 1: so basically, you would get it. You would get a
- 16:52Speaker 1: hefty award like about I think like two hundred gold
- 16:55Speaker 1: pieces or something. It was a fat reward and pretty
- 17:02Speaker 1: much anything he wanted. So Murtog shows up at the
- 17:06Speaker 1: first Company. He presents the muckmat to the captain of
- 17:09Speaker 1: the of the company and guy's like, okay, all right,
- 17:14Speaker 1: I see you, I see you. Well, here's your reward.
- 17:17Speaker 1: Is there anything else I can do for you? Murtough
- 17:19Speaker 1: was like, yeah, I'd like to join you guys. Oh
- 17:23Speaker 1: Like the guy's like, oh now, why would you want
- 17:25Speaker 1: to do that. Murtoc plays it off as like, oh, well,
- 17:28Speaker 1: you know, I fought in the war. I'm not gonna
- 17:30Speaker 1: say which side I fought on, but I fought in
- 17:32Speaker 1: the war, and I'd like to do something other. I'd
- 17:35Speaker 1: like to do something that doesn't involve me having to
- 17:39Speaker 1: kill people.
- 17:40Speaker 2: That's fair.
- 17:41Speaker 1: And Captain of the Guard was like, that's fair. All right,
- 17:44Speaker 1: you're in. And the were Cat had told Murtalk exactly
- 17:49Speaker 1: where he needed to go in order to get to
- 17:52Speaker 1: where the where she suspected the wear Cat chilled the
- 17:56Speaker 1: were cat cubs were being held, and it was somewhere
- 17:59Speaker 1: within THEREX of the First Company. So Murtog he plays
- 18:06Speaker 1: off being the guard. He's given a uniform, he is
- 18:10Speaker 1: given like a he's given us like like new arm. Well,
- 18:14Speaker 1: he has his own armor, but he's given new equipment
- 18:17Speaker 1: and new cloak and everything. So he plays the He
- 18:22Speaker 1: plays the city guard for like a day, and when
- 18:26Speaker 1: nighttime comes, as soon as everybody's asleep, he takes his weapons.
- 18:29Speaker 1: He sneaks down into the cellar where he was told
- 18:32Speaker 1: he'd find the secret entrance leading into where the Wearcats
- 18:36Speaker 1: believe their their cubs were taken, and he manages to
- 18:40Speaker 1: sneak in, and he finds a very strange room. This
- 18:44Speaker 1: room was filled to the brim with magic artifacts like
- 18:49Speaker 1: gemstones that were filled with energy that could be easily
- 18:53Speaker 1: used to power spells. Murtag actually takes one for himself.
- 18:58Speaker 1: He finds tomes and books about all different kinds of arcana,
- 19:02Speaker 1: but one toe he finds he's like, oh, this is gold.
- 19:07Speaker 1: It was a it was a dictionary, a dictionary of well, actually, no,
- 19:13Speaker 1: it's more of a what do you call those books
- 19:17Speaker 1: where it's like a it's a like a like a
- 19:21Speaker 1: translation book, like where it has like a it's like
- 19:24Speaker 1: at the thesaurus. It's a code. It's a code ex exact. Yeah,
- 19:31Speaker 1: And it's a codex of basically a complete codex of
- 19:36Speaker 1: the ancient language, so all like most of like a
- 19:39Speaker 1: good number of like the known words of the ancient language.
- 19:43Speaker 1: So signing this, Murtag was like, oh, this is a
- 19:47Speaker 1: perfect opportunity because despite his education under Galbatorus, Galbators had
- 19:52Speaker 1: not taught him everything about the ancient language, so there's
- 19:55Speaker 1: still so. While he is a strong dragon writer and
- 19:58Speaker 1: he's a very proficient spell cast, he still falls short
- 20:01Speaker 1: of an Lf or even Aragon, because Aragon he could
- 20:04Speaker 1: speak the ancient language fluently. Yeah, but Mertzog, he just
- 20:08Speaker 1: knows a few phrases and enough to get by for
- 20:11Speaker 1: spells for spell casting. So, taking the gemstone and the codex,
- 20:17Speaker 1: he pockets both of them and he makes it too.
- 20:20Speaker 1: He goes across the room to another door. He tries
- 20:23Speaker 1: to open it, but finds that the door is completely
- 20:25Speaker 1: sealed by magic. And realizing that the wards protecting this
- 20:32Speaker 1: door are being powered by these other gemstones that are
- 20:35Speaker 1: filled to the brim with magical energy, he decides to
- 20:39Speaker 1: try it. Rather than just straight up breaking the wards,
- 20:42Speaker 1: He's going to draw the energy for the wards from
- 20:45Speaker 1: this from the gemstones, So he casts a simple spell
- 20:50Speaker 1: and uses the energy from the gemstones to power the spell.
- 20:54Speaker 1: He just simply casts a fire spell literally burns all
- 20:58Speaker 1: the energy from the from the gemstones and completely depowers
- 21:03Speaker 1: the wards, allowing him to get through the door. He
- 21:06Speaker 1: gets through the door, and he finds himself in somewhat
- 21:09Speaker 1: of a weird underground garden with different kinds of like
- 21:13Speaker 1: species of plants, and he recognizes that many of these
- 21:16Speaker 1: plants are used in some form of magical alchemy, like potions,
- 21:20Speaker 1: like strange breeds of mushrooms. Some of these plants are
- 21:23Speaker 1: so exotic he doesn't even recognize them. There's a bit
- 21:26Speaker 1: of a little no one plant. He sees in there,
- 21:29Speaker 1: a bunch of like gold and silver lilies, like a
- 21:32Speaker 1: metallic plant. And that's a little nod back to book three,
- 21:35Speaker 1: because in book three, Aragon and Aria had encountered some
- 21:39Speaker 1: wild spirits, and when they encountered these wild spirits, they
- 21:42Speaker 1: had transformed these nearby lilies into these living metal flowers
- 21:48Speaker 1: of like silver and gold. So he sees them there.
- 21:51Speaker 1: That's a little nod back to the original series. And
- 21:53Speaker 1: he also sees in a display case a strange, ugly
- 21:57Speaker 1: looking egg.
- 22:00Speaker 2: It's not a strange, ugly looking egg.
- 22:02Speaker 1: It's not a dragon's egg. He later learns that that
- 22:06Speaker 1: egg was actually a razac egg. The razac are these
- 22:12Speaker 1: grotesque bird insects like creatures. They have like two primary phases,
- 22:21Speaker 1: like the nymph phase is where they look more or
- 22:24Speaker 1: less human. They could pass as human, but like they
- 22:27Speaker 1: have to wear like very baggy clothing and like cows
- 22:32Speaker 1: to hide their faces. And while they and they can
- 22:35Speaker 1: speak like normal like humans can, but they're highly predatory
- 22:38Speaker 1: and they almost exclusively hunt humans. And then there's their
- 22:42Speaker 1: adult phase, which is the leather blocka. The leather blocka
- 22:46Speaker 1: are about the size of a small dragon and they
- 22:53Speaker 1: have wings. So there are these big tarridon looking ugly creatures.
- 23:00Speaker 1: Gone actually encounters them in book three and it's thought
- 23:04Speaker 1: that he had killed the last of the razac, but
- 23:07Speaker 1: unfortunately he suspected that there were eggs still left over.
- 23:14Speaker 1: There were probably still razac eggs left over, some hidden
- 23:17Speaker 1: somewhere in the kingdom, somewhere throughout the empire, but Murtog
- 23:21Speaker 1: doesn't recognize the egg for what it is right now
- 23:23Speaker 1: and decides to leave it alone. He goes further into
- 23:25Speaker 1: the garden and finds another locked room. He opens it
- 23:28Speaker 1: and at first he finds that it's empty and doesn't
- 23:30Speaker 1: think that there's anything there. And this is this is
- 23:34Speaker 1: disheartening for him because he assumes that, oh, he was
- 23:37Speaker 1: too late. The werecat child was taken because the werecats
- 23:41Speaker 1: believed that the children were after they're captured and held
- 23:46Speaker 1: for about a week and then before eventually being taken
- 23:49Speaker 1: out of the city and spirited away to some unknown location.
- 23:52Speaker 1: It's after they're taken out of the city that the
- 23:54Speaker 1: werecats lose their trail. Yeah, so Murtog, thinking it was
- 24:00Speaker 1: too late, is about to leave once suddenly he's assaulted
- 24:03Speaker 1: by this little ball of fluff. Turns out it was
- 24:06Speaker 1: the werecat child that he was looking for, Yeah, and
- 24:10Speaker 1: he manages. He manages to subdue it, and he convinces
- 24:14Speaker 1: it that he's not there to hurt it, he's there
- 24:16Speaker 1: to rescue it. He leads the were cat out of
- 24:19Speaker 1: the cell and they are confronted by the first company
- 24:24Speaker 1: because they did notice take notice of Murtog's absence, and
- 24:28Speaker 1: they pursue him through the underground tunnels. Murtogg is forced
- 24:33Speaker 1: to flee through a different direction instead of the way
- 24:36Speaker 1: he came. UH takes them deeper into the tunnels beneath
- 24:38Speaker 1: the city. He eventually does lose the guards and they
- 24:42Speaker 1: go further like deeper underground. The were cat UH at
- 24:48Speaker 1: first is mistrustful, but then realizes that well, Murtog's there
- 24:52Speaker 1: to help and it has no other choice but to
- 24:54Speaker 1: follow him out. UH they eventually do find their way
- 24:57Speaker 1: out of the under city and and back up into
- 25:01Speaker 1: the just outside of the city. Murtog takes the leads
- 25:05Speaker 1: the wrecat back into the city, where it then takes
- 25:08Speaker 1: off again and Murtog's annoyed, but whatever, it's free yuh.
- 25:14Speaker 1: He then heads back to the were cat uh to
- 25:18Speaker 1: the to the court wear Cat, using the same secret
- 25:21Speaker 1: entrance he used before, and when he gets to the
- 25:24Speaker 1: Werecat's office, it's funny he finds the cub there with
- 25:28Speaker 1: the with the court wear cat and yeah, that's when
- 25:32Speaker 1: he realizes that this this cub was actually the daughter
- 25:36Speaker 1: of the court werecat. Uh. The were cat grateful for
- 25:43Speaker 1: Murtog rescuing his her cub, she tells She reveals to
- 25:48Speaker 1: Murtog more about the Dreamers. The Dreamers. The werecats have
- 25:55Speaker 1: found that the Dreamers have operations all over Alligasia and
- 25:58Speaker 1: pretty much every major city in the human realms at
- 26:02Speaker 1: least and Hell and even they suspect and even the
- 26:05Speaker 1: realms of the Dwarves. They're not so sure about the elves,
- 26:08Speaker 1: but it's highly likely that they may have some influence
- 26:13Speaker 1: there as well. She reveals to Murtog that the Dreamers
- 26:21Speaker 1: often take a ship out of Kenon somewhere further up
- 26:26Speaker 1: north and then northern like and then somewhere like far
- 26:30Speaker 1: into the northern tip of the Spine, which is along
- 26:33Speaker 1: the west coast of Allegasia. So if you keep going
- 26:36Speaker 1: and going and going, there's an area that they do lose.
- 26:41Speaker 1: The workcats did lose the trail of these dreamers. But
- 26:44Speaker 1: the ship goes somewhere deep into the north. Because the
- 26:49Speaker 1: thing is there is a large lake that q noon
- 26:52Speaker 1: is Kenon and Gilead are both can both be found.
- 26:57Speaker 1: Gilead is at the very southern tip of this lake
- 26:59Speaker 1: where it turns into this large river that goes further
- 27:04Speaker 1: south than eventually connects to Illyria. But the lake is
- 27:11Speaker 1: also technically a like a like an inland bay because
- 27:16Speaker 1: if you follow it further north, it eventually connects to
- 27:19Speaker 1: the sea. But somewhere in that northern tip of the
- 27:23Speaker 1: Spine where it hits the bay, there's the werecats believe
- 27:27Speaker 1: that the dreamers have a headquarters or like basically their
- 27:32Speaker 1: base of operations is somewhere in the northern tip of
- 27:35Speaker 1: the Spine. So with this information, Murtag thanks thanks the
- 27:41Speaker 1: werecat and the werecat's daughter does thank him too, surprisingly
- 27:48Speaker 1: because wearcats are very prideful creatures, as most cats are
- 27:52Speaker 1: most cats are. He decides to depart from Gilead, but
- 27:57Speaker 1: he's nearly but he's nearly captured by the guards again.
- 28:04Speaker 1: He's nearly recognized and captured by the guards again, and
- 28:06Speaker 1: unfortunately he's also recognized by a former noble of galbators
- 28:13Speaker 1: Is High Court. This dude was the son of a
- 28:16Speaker 1: one of the nobles that served or should I say,
- 28:19Speaker 1: kissed a lot of ass to Galatorush. This dude, while
- 28:25Speaker 1: he still retains his connections, has lost a lot of
- 28:28Speaker 1: power and influence. He manages to spirit Murtog into a
- 28:34Speaker 1: safe into like a safe location. And the thing is,
- 28:38Speaker 1: this dude wanted to try to convince He wanted to
- 28:43Speaker 1: try to convince Murtog into joining joining him and some
- 28:48Speaker 1: of the other more faithful of Galbatorux to try to
- 28:52Speaker 1: overthrow Nesuata And basically he wanted to try to convince
- 28:57Speaker 1: Murtog to take Galbaltorus's place and become the new high
- 29:01Speaker 1: King of Allegasia. Murtog kind of plays along at first,
- 29:05Speaker 1: but he eventually just tells the guy to go to
- 29:08Speaker 1: get stuffed. And the thing is is that well, the
- 29:12Speaker 1: guy had led Murtog into a trap, because the house
- 29:16Speaker 1: that this nobleman had taken up residents in was actually
- 29:21Speaker 1: a former house that the Force Worn had used, and
- 29:25Speaker 1: so like this was like a kind of like a meeting.
- 29:27Speaker 1: This house was like a gathering place or a meeting
- 29:30Speaker 1: place that the Force the original thirteen would use that
- 29:34Speaker 1: was outside of Galbaltorux's notice. And they had traps set
- 29:38Speaker 1: up in the in that house, special traps that are
- 29:41Speaker 1: designed to trap spell casters, very powerful spell casters too,
- 29:47Speaker 1: and Murtog ends up getting thrown in one. So this
- 29:51Speaker 1: trap was called a magician's box. And what it's designed
- 29:54Speaker 1: to do is there's spells in place that draw the
- 29:58Speaker 1: air from the box, basically creating a vacuum. And Murtog
- 30:03Speaker 1: is is not only unable to breathe but cast a spell,
- 30:06Speaker 1: and and it's like it's puts you in under such
- 30:10Speaker 1: duress that he's not able to even form like a
- 30:13Speaker 1: coherent thought, to even cast a verblest spell. And the
- 30:20Speaker 1: thing is, though his distress does alert Thorn, who immediately
- 30:25Speaker 1: like flies into Gilead and tears the house apart. And
- 30:30Speaker 1: he manages to grab Murtog. He pulls Murtog out of
- 30:33Speaker 1: the trap while Murtog is regaining his composure. This is
- 30:38Speaker 1: where we first encounter Thorn's trauma. So, as I said before,
- 30:46Speaker 1: Thorn has developed in a very extreme form of claustrophobia.
- 30:51Speaker 1: This was due to the fact that when he was
- 30:54Speaker 1: still under Galbatorux's control, anytime that Thorn was not being
- 30:59Speaker 1: was not being sent out on a mission, Galviatorus would
- 31:02Speaker 1: have him chained up and locked away in a in
- 31:06Speaker 1: a cage deep with deep beneath Rubain. And the thing
- 31:13Speaker 1: is is that we learned we will later learn that Thorn,
- 31:18Speaker 1: pretty much from the time that he hatched, anytime he
- 31:22Speaker 1: was not being actively fed or on a mission, or
- 31:26Speaker 1: being or going through whatever training he needed, he was
- 31:29Speaker 1: chained up and locked in a in a big dark room,
- 31:32Speaker 1: deep beneath the palace of Rubine. And the thing is
- 31:38Speaker 1: is that Thorn this was done from the moment he
- 31:41Speaker 1: was hatched. So from a hatchling to his more mature self,
- 31:46Speaker 1: he was constantly locked away and it caused him to
- 31:49Speaker 1: develop an extreme form of claustrophobia. It got so bad
- 31:53Speaker 1: that even when he was under Galbatorux's control. Anytime Galatorus
- 31:57Speaker 1: would order him back to be chained and taken back
- 32:00Speaker 1: to his cell, he would freak out and try to escape,
- 32:04Speaker 1: but Galvitorz would use his true name force him to
- 32:08Speaker 1: submit and he would be dragged dragged back into his
- 32:11Speaker 1: cell where he would be chained up and restrained. And
- 32:15Speaker 1: when he was chained, he wasn't just like put in
- 32:16Speaker 1: a collar or a little shackle was put on his legs. No,
- 32:20Speaker 1: he was chained down where he was completely restrained. His
- 32:26Speaker 1: movements were restricted. He was helpless. So the reason why
- 32:32Speaker 1: I bring that up now is because when he tore
- 32:34Speaker 1: up that house, he was already starting to freak out,
- 32:38Speaker 1: but he was still calm and thinking rationally. But part
- 32:42Speaker 1: of the house collapsed on him, and because that happened,
- 32:47Speaker 1: it freaked him out. Like there was just a small section,
- 32:50Speaker 1: it wasn't enough to hurt him or restrain him, but
- 32:52Speaker 1: when he felt part of the house collapse on him,
- 32:55Speaker 1: he freaked out. Thorn completely freaks out. He starts the
- 33:00Speaker 1: house up, like, starts rampaging, like completely loses himself right
- 33:07Speaker 1: total panic mode. He starts he tears up the house completely.
- 33:12Speaker 1: He rips himself out of the house. People on the
- 33:14Speaker 1: street of Gilead see him and they start freaking out.
- 33:17Speaker 1: Thorn grabs, like part of Thorn is at least coherent
- 33:21Speaker 1: enough to remember to grab Murtog, so he grabs Murtog
- 33:24Speaker 1: takes it off, but in his like panic state, he
- 33:27Speaker 1: starts he starts breathing fire on the city and burns
- 33:32Speaker 1: parts of it down. But he he takes off, flies
- 33:36Speaker 1: off into the wilderness and it Murtog is basically the
- 33:40Speaker 1: entire time is just trying hard to like reach Thorn
- 33:44Speaker 1: and calm him down. So massive freak out, and Thorn
- 33:52Speaker 1: eventually calms down and lands like miles away from the city,
- 33:58Speaker 1: and he's just shamed himself because for one thing, he
- 34:01Speaker 1: didn't he wasn't intending to burn down half of gilly
- 34:05Speaker 1: Ed again, uh, and he didn't want to hurt anybody,
- 34:15Speaker 1: But because of his phobia and his because of his
- 34:19Speaker 1: traumatic experiences, he ends up panicking and goes out of control. Uh.
- 34:25Speaker 1: Murtog on some level knows that there's gonna be deep
- 34:28Speaker 1: repercussions for this, for this incident, and people are now
- 34:34Speaker 1: going to view him and Thorn as more of this
- 34:38Speaker 1: of these like villainous figures, but at the same time,
- 34:42Speaker 1: Murtog doesn't really care like people can think about. People
- 34:46Speaker 1: already think that he is probably the second the Antichrist,
- 34:50Speaker 1: this antichrist figure, the return of Morzan. You know what's
- 34:54Speaker 1: burning down a city half a city gonna do. But
- 34:59Speaker 1: still the two of them. He reviews what he had
- 35:03Speaker 1: learned in Gilead, and the two of them do commit
- 35:07Speaker 1: themselves to trying to be better Murtog every chance they get.
- 35:13Speaker 1: Murtog and Thorn start working on trying to help Thorn
- 35:16Speaker 1: overcome his claustrophobia, and they would start. They would do
- 35:20Speaker 1: this by starting off slow. They would find like a
- 35:22Speaker 1: small copse of trees, and Murtog would just carefully walk
- 35:27Speaker 1: with Thorn through the trees to try to get him
- 35:30Speaker 1: more like trying to desensitize him, get a more used
- 35:34Speaker 1: to being in enclosed spaces again. But still it's it's hard.
- 35:41Speaker 1: At the just slightest like provocation, Thorn would panic and
- 35:46Speaker 1: like run out of the trees. It honestly, it's heartbreaking
- 35:52Speaker 1: watching this, but he makes some progress. The two of
- 35:55Speaker 1: them decide to fly north and try to find this Headquart.
- 36:03Speaker 1: The try to find Botchell and find wherever the dreamers
- 36:07Speaker 1: are hiding. Their journey takes them to Palanker Valley, like
- 36:13Speaker 1: as they're flying. They're flying more of like a north
- 36:16Speaker 1: north by west northwest direction along the coast of the
- 36:21Speaker 1: of the lake. You know. Let me let me pull
- 36:25Speaker 1: up a map of Allegesia so I can give you
- 36:27Speaker 1: guys a better idea map of Allegasia. There's a map
- 36:36Speaker 1: in the book. And when I was trying to reference
- 36:39Speaker 1: the book in the Murtag book, for some reason, Christopher
- 36:42Speaker 1: Palini decided to like have it labeled in the in
- 36:46Speaker 1: the Runic language he uses. So I was like, I
- 36:50Speaker 1: cannot read this anyway. All right, let me pull up
- 36:55Speaker 1: this map here, pull up the mappy bastard. Yeah, okay,
- 37:07Speaker 1: let me go to images. Then, like, okay, fuck you,
- 37:09Speaker 1: let me go to the images. All right, Uh what
- 37:15Speaker 1: is this? Oh? Of course there's not a name of
- 37:18Speaker 1: the lake. Fucking my face, h uh huh oh, because
- 37:38Speaker 1: of course there's not a lake on the dam. There's
- 37:39Speaker 1: not a name there. They don't have a name for
- 37:41Speaker 1: the lake on this map. So there's qne Oh. I'm
- 37:54Speaker 1: sorry anyway, Oh, I'm sorry, I got it totally wrong.
- 37:59Speaker 1: So Gilliad was not on that same like he. It
- 38:01Speaker 1: was on another lake called Issan's Tar. Anyway, peld you
- 38:05Speaker 1: define edit that part out. Uh. So they decide to follow.
- 38:08Speaker 1: They decided to travel north by northwest, going back to
- 38:12Speaker 1: the lake that Qunan borders. I cannot find the name
- 38:16Speaker 1: of that damn lake. But uh. Their journey takes them
- 38:20Speaker 1: close to Palanker Valley, and just as the just as
- 38:26Speaker 1: they're about to pass the entrance to Palanker Valley, he
- 38:34Speaker 1: whoa your foot up, Nimbolina.
- 38:49Speaker 2: Uh oh oh, okay, all right, all right, you can
- 38:53Speaker 2: get her here.
- 38:55Speaker 3: M hm.
- 38:56Speaker 1: We are now joined by nimble little miss nim names.
- 39:02Speaker 2: Yeah, your little miss nim names. You did your bib
- 39:06Speaker 2: goo mhm. He hello, Hi, he's waving hid.
- 39:15Speaker 1: H. I saw him white back. Thank you for the gift,
- 39:21Speaker 1: sehn or John.
- 39:23Speaker 2: Sorry, Johnny, he said, thank you.
- 39:31Speaker 1: M hm.
- 39:33Speaker 2: Hopefully you can make work.
- 39:36Speaker 1: I'll try.
- 39:41Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 39:41Speaker 1: You got it?
- 39:41Speaker 2: Real? Are you saying? Hopefully you can get the God's
- 39:44Speaker 2: other thing to work? And wait? Have fun with that?
- 39:48Speaker 1: Yeah? Uh? Anyway, So anyway, uh, Birdtog and Thorn. As
- 39:56Speaker 1: they're traveling north, Uh, they come across the entrance to
- 39:59Speaker 1: Palanker and they actually do plan on flying through. They
- 40:03Speaker 1: decided to fly through it, but just before they pass
- 40:05Speaker 1: the entrance to Palanker Valley, there is a fort. There
- 40:10Speaker 1: is a fort on the built on the tip of
- 40:14Speaker 1: one of the mountains in like right by the entrance
- 40:17Speaker 1: of Palanker Valley. This fort is called Utgard. Utgard was
- 40:22Speaker 1: also used as a dragon Writer outpost, and it was
- 40:26Speaker 1: also the place that the leader of the dragon Writers
- 40:30Speaker 1: was killed by Galbatorix. So Murtog decides to make a
- 40:34Speaker 1: quick stop there just because he just wanted to visit
- 40:39Speaker 1: the place of the where the last free dragon Writer
- 40:42Speaker 1: was killed. The last leader of the dragon Writers was killed,
- 40:46Speaker 1: pays homage to it, and then he and Thorn eventually do.
- 40:50Speaker 1: They do leave and continue their way north. As they're
- 40:56Speaker 1: flying north, all I see from my perspective, all I
- 41:05Speaker 1: see is her butt on your on your microphone.
- 41:09Speaker 2: Her. But he hates me right now because I'm giving
- 41:14Speaker 2: her all the give her all the kisses.
- 41:20Speaker 3: Okay, I'll let you go, Nimba Dan, I can't get
- 41:24Speaker 3: any affection god.
- 41:28Speaker 1: H anyway. Anyway, So after visiting Utgard, Thorn and Murtog
- 41:39Speaker 1: continue flying north. They see the settlements of Thrensford and
- 41:43Speaker 1: Carbo Hall. Uh. Murtog is especially curious to see the
- 41:46Speaker 1: home of Aragon because Carbo Hall was where Aragon was
- 41:51Speaker 1: born and raised. He sees that most of it is
- 41:54Speaker 1: still in ruins because it was destroyed by the Empire UH,
- 41:58Speaker 1: but it's been mostly built and they do. He does
- 42:01Speaker 1: see that there is like a new keep being built
- 42:04Speaker 1: because Nsuaa had made Uh Aragon's cousin Rorin into the
- 42:11Speaker 1: Earl of Palanker Valley, so he's like, he's now the
- 42:16Speaker 1: He's now the lord of palank Palanker Valley, and the
- 42:20Speaker 1: valley has become much more richer Undernsuata's rule. Uh, he's
- 42:24Speaker 1: going to be leading his p's now in charge of
- 42:25Speaker 1: his people. And Murtog has some has a moment of
- 42:29Speaker 1: sentimentality because he realizes that Rorin is also technically his
- 42:33Speaker 1: cousin as well, because their cousins through their mothers Uh
- 42:38Speaker 1: he's their cousins by Murtok's mother Seline m HM. But
- 42:46Speaker 1: he realizes that mur Murtog realizes he's probably the last
- 42:49Speaker 1: person that Roran would want to meet or be friends.
- 42:54Speaker 1: So they continue on their journey northward as they're flying
- 42:58Speaker 1: over the spine. As they go continue going further north
- 43:01Speaker 1: into the spine, he notices that there are some other
- 43:03Speaker 1: smaller settlements hidden deep within the From this like, from
- 43:07Speaker 1: his aerial vantage, he does see several other smaller settlements
- 43:11Speaker 1: hidden deep within the spine, and he realizes, oh, those
- 43:14Speaker 1: are the those are Ergyle villages. They knew everyone knew
- 43:18Speaker 1: that the Urgles typically make their home far north in
- 43:23Speaker 1: the Spine or like the northern more uncharted regions of Allegasia,
- 43:28Speaker 1: but no one has ever been able to find them.
- 43:30Speaker 1: So he's like, oh, that's interesting. You can see the
- 43:32Speaker 1: So now he knows where the Urgles are. As they
- 43:35Speaker 1: keep flying northward, they do come across another valley and
- 43:42Speaker 1: they noticed that this valley is it it's constantly covered
- 43:47Speaker 1: by this dark, gray, ashy cloud. And when they reach it,
- 43:53Speaker 1: he flies towards the entrance and from his aerial advantage,
- 43:57Speaker 1: from his aerial view, he could see that there's a
- 43:59Speaker 1: strange like settlement deeper deeper within the valley. It's me
- 44:05Speaker 1: And as they enter the valley, he notices that it
- 44:08Speaker 1: has a strong scent of sulfur, and the ground and
- 44:10Speaker 1: the overall landscape looks burnt and brittle. He realizes this
- 44:15Speaker 1: is it. They found it, so before they answer the valley,
- 44:20Speaker 1: Murzoc has thorn land and Murtog pulls out his armor
- 44:24Speaker 1: and dons it, deciding like, all right, we're gonna confront
- 44:27Speaker 1: the the dreamers. Might as well go in guns blazing, right,
- 44:31Speaker 1: So he pulls he puts on Zarak, he puts on
- 44:35Speaker 1: his armor, and with Thorn at hand, they fly it
- 44:39Speaker 1: headed first into the valley. They land in the middle
- 44:41Speaker 1: of this settlement. They notice that there are people. These
- 44:45Speaker 1: people are kind of monastic, so they're like, they kind
- 44:50Speaker 1: of look like monks, but you know, without the bad haircuts. Yeah,
- 44:54Speaker 1: And at first the people are terrified seeing a dragon
- 44:58Speaker 1: and a rider here, but Murtog calls him out, says,
- 45:02Speaker 1: i'm I came here looking for Batchel. Bring her to me.
- 45:05Speaker 1: And one of the one of these, one of the
- 45:11Speaker 1: villagers approaches him and says, we will take you to
- 45:15Speaker 1: our oracle, basically like we'll take you to the oracle,
- 45:18Speaker 1: and leads to and leads Murtog to this big temple
- 45:24Speaker 1: and he tells he has Murtog and Thorn wait outside,
- 45:27Speaker 1: and he goes in and a few minutes later he
- 45:31Speaker 1: comes back, and behind and with him are a team
- 45:34Speaker 1: of men carrying a litter. And sitting on this litter
- 45:38Speaker 1: is this very exotic looking woman. She has a very
- 45:41Speaker 1: ageless look to her and very strong angular features, and
- 45:47Speaker 1: Murtog is not really sure like how to place her.
- 45:51Speaker 1: Looks this woman like she she's garbed in kind of
- 45:55Speaker 1: like a very like you ever see those old like
- 45:59Speaker 1: medieval movies where it's like, you know, Conan the Barbarian,
- 46:03Speaker 1: all right, Beastmaster where everyone is scantily clad and everything
- 46:07Speaker 1: like that, She's like she's basically clad like Leah from
- 46:10Speaker 1: Return of the from a Return of the Jedi. Right,
- 46:15Speaker 1: And as he's looking at her, he realizes she's a
- 46:18Speaker 1: half elf. Oh, so, half elves are extremely rare in
- 46:24Speaker 1: alleg Asia, like no one has, like people rarely see them.
- 46:28Speaker 1: They live as long as their elf parents, but they
- 46:30Speaker 1: have human features so they don't have pointed ears, but
- 46:34Speaker 1: they have the strong angular features of their eleven parents,
- 46:37Speaker 1: and they also possess their longevity and they're very powerful spellcasters.
- 46:43Speaker 1: So he realizes that, oh crap, so this is Bachell
- 46:48Speaker 1: and she's a half elf.
- 46:50Speaker 2: Don don dom.
- 46:53Speaker 1: Bochell addresses Martog and Thorn as if there were just
- 46:58Speaker 1: her subjects and uh. She welcomes them to the valley,
- 47:04Speaker 1: which she calls now Gordoff, and the way she addresses them,
- 47:11Speaker 1: she addresses them like a mother addresses a son. And
- 47:15Speaker 1: she she reveals that she is the soothsayer of the
- 47:18Speaker 1: valley that she uh, she doesn't. She's very cagey with
- 47:23Speaker 1: what she tells them. She doesn't tell them much, but
- 47:26Speaker 1: she does tell them that she does reveal some things.
- 47:29Speaker 1: They she she had foreseen that they would, that they
- 47:33Speaker 1: would arrive, and their arrival was the will of some uh,
- 47:40Speaker 1: some sort of higher power. And while Mertzog tries to
- 47:44Speaker 1: get a feel and learn more about her, she doesn't
- 47:47Speaker 1: really give them much to go off of. She invites
- 47:50Speaker 1: him and Thorn to stay for for some time, get
- 47:53Speaker 1: to know the people there, and she would tell him
- 47:56Speaker 1: more about who they are, who the dreamers are. She
- 48:01Speaker 1: throws a massive feast for them the first night, and
- 48:05Speaker 1: he notices immediately that she's a bit of a glutton
- 48:08Speaker 1: because she's caught. She drinks a lot of wine, she
- 48:10Speaker 1: eats a lot of food, and the thing is her
- 48:14Speaker 1: eleven metabolism. She does not gain a single pound look
- 48:20Speaker 1: and she doesn't look like she's about to explode from eating,
- 48:23Speaker 1: but he agrees to stay, and he's trying to get it.
- 48:28Speaker 1: He's trying to learn more from like the people, the
- 48:30Speaker 1: servants of the people, and he soon realizes that this
- 48:35Speaker 1: is more than just soothsayer. This is a cult. Yeah,
- 48:40Speaker 1: this is some sort of cult, and the dreamers are
- 48:43Speaker 1: worshiping like from what he can learn, the dreamers are
- 48:46Speaker 1: worshiping some dark entity. And I'm gonna find the name here,
- 48:53Speaker 1: the name of this entity in a bit. But anyway, Murtog.
- 49:06Speaker 1: The first night that there that they stay there, Murtog
- 49:10Speaker 1: sneaks around the settlement a bit. He doesn't go inside
- 49:13Speaker 1: the temple because he knows that that he could, he
- 49:16Speaker 1: would be at risk of being found out by Baschell.
- 49:20Speaker 1: He does find a tower where Bachel keeps a large
- 49:24Speaker 1: flock of ravens, very nasty in there. But while he's exploring,
- 49:28Speaker 1: he does find a pendant inside the inside the tower,
- 49:33Speaker 1: It's a pendant belonging to one of the force worn
- 49:37Speaker 1: and the implications of this is astonishing to Murtog because
- 49:45Speaker 1: that means that because he knew that before Galbatoruz led
- 49:50Speaker 1: the rebellion against the other Riders and wipe them out.
- 49:54Speaker 1: He had fled somewhere into the north and hid in
- 49:58Speaker 1: a dark place. It was in this dark place that
- 50:01Speaker 1: he had raised his new black dragon Trucan to full maturity,
- 50:07Speaker 1: using and twisted him with dark magic before leading him
- 50:11Speaker 1: before leading the Force Worn against the Dragon Writers. So
- 50:19Speaker 1: as he learns more, he soon comes to realize that
- 50:23Speaker 1: now Gorgoth was the place that Galbatorus and the Forceworn
- 50:27Speaker 1: had hid before they had led their uprising against the
- 50:31Speaker 1: Dragon Writers, and he learns. It takes some time, but
- 50:36Speaker 1: he eventually learns that Galbatorus, while he was unhinged even
- 50:41Speaker 1: before he uh before he wiped out the riders. He
- 50:45Speaker 1: realizes that Bachell, that Bachell had influenced him to the
- 50:52Speaker 1: point and had basically Bachell was the reason why galbators
- 50:55Speaker 1: became so unhinged. And and while he still seriously doubts
- 51:02Speaker 1: that Bachell can see the future and that whatever her
- 51:05Speaker 1: so called viewings are, they're definitely they're clearly a result
- 51:08Speaker 1: of the noxious fumes that are constantly permeating the valley,
- 51:13Speaker 1: because it's it very smells, it smells very strongly of
- 51:16Speaker 1: fire and brimstone. M m all right, Murtog does. Eventually, uh,
- 51:24Speaker 1: Murtog discovers that that deeper in the valley there is
- 51:28Speaker 1: a massive cave.
- 51:29Speaker 2: Uh.
- 51:29Speaker 1: He does try to go and explore it several times.
- 51:33Speaker 1: Once he almost gets caught by the Dreamers as they're
- 51:36Speaker 1: coming out of it. Second time he goes even deep.
- 51:38Speaker 1: He manages to go even deeper, and it's there he
- 51:42Speaker 1: discovers what they call the Well of Dreams. And the
- 51:46Speaker 1: thing is is that when he finds this well, it's
- 51:49Speaker 1: covered and he's not really sure what to make of it.
- 51:51Speaker 1: But before he can, uh like, before he can leave
- 51:54Speaker 1: the cave, Batchell discovers him and confronts him. She tells
- 51:59Speaker 1: him that you were basically she by this point she
- 52:02Speaker 1: had been telling him that she had foreseen his coming,
- 52:06Speaker 1: but she hadn't really told him what for what purpose?
- 52:10Speaker 1: And she tells him that he's going to be the
- 52:12Speaker 1: champion of this dark entity that they worship. Let me
- 52:19Speaker 1: see here this damns there we go. So Baschel reveals
- 52:27Speaker 1: that he will be the champ, that he was meant
- 52:30Speaker 1: to be the champion of their dark of this dark entity,
- 52:34Speaker 1: a deity that they call as lager Being. This being
- 52:39Speaker 1: that exists deep within the earth, very powerful and dangerous
- 52:44Speaker 1: entity that dwells deep beneath the earth. And she had
- 52:47Speaker 1: for she had prophesied that as Lager would eventually rise
- 52:52Speaker 1: up from the deep and destroy all of allegation and
- 52:54Speaker 1: reshape it right. And she manages to incapacitate Murtog by
- 53:01Speaker 1: opening the well of dreams, and this strange, almost lifelike
- 53:05Speaker 1: vapor comes out and immediately envelops Murtog, and this completely
- 53:11Speaker 1: incapacitates him. So by this point, every night that Murtog
- 53:17Speaker 1: had slept in in Algorgov, he'd been having these strange dreams.
- 53:22Speaker 1: They're pretty much every night, they're pretty much the same.
- 53:24Speaker 1: He sees like this large flock of dragons, this solar eclipse,
- 53:29Speaker 1: like this solar eclipse appear. And then and one of
- 53:32Speaker 1: the later dreams, he sees some really dark wing this
- 53:36Speaker 1: dark dragon like creature like rise up out of the earth,
- 53:40Speaker 1: except this it looks like a dragon, but it is wingless. Yeah,
- 53:45Speaker 1: it is massive. Uh uh. He's becomes incapacitated by this,
- 53:54Speaker 1: by the this gas simply called the breath, I think
- 53:58Speaker 1: it was called uh, let me see here. Yeah, it's
- 54:04Speaker 1: just called the breath. Anyway, So after himcapacitating Murtog, she
- 54:10Speaker 1: also incapacitates Thorn and has him chained, which basically causes
- 54:15Speaker 1: Thorn to freak out again. But because he's been incapacitated
- 54:18Speaker 1: by the breath, he's not able to do anything. He's helpless,
- 54:22Speaker 1: and Bacho begins to torture Murtog. This goes on for days,
- 54:30Speaker 1: and though Murtog manages to avoid her mental assault, she's
- 54:36Speaker 1: also using like uh, she's also physically harming him. Uh.
- 54:41Speaker 1: She cuts to she uses like these gauntlets, like these
- 54:45Speaker 1: bladed gauntlets to like carve into his chest and like
- 54:49Speaker 1: cause intense pain. She does. She does this for several days,
- 54:52Speaker 1: and unfortunately she completely breaks Murtog mentally and U she
- 55:00Speaker 1: begins feeding. She begins feeding Murtog uh this elixir that
- 55:04Speaker 1: makes it impossible for him to cast magic and for
- 55:09Speaker 1: it's not really it's not really clear how long Murtog
- 55:12Speaker 1: and Thorn were being held captive, but sometime passes. She
- 55:17Speaker 1: basically uh brainwashes him into being her willing servant, and
- 55:25Speaker 1: she has Murtogh like redressed in his armor and she
- 55:30Speaker 1: starts sending him out on missions. First mission, she sends
- 55:34Speaker 1: him on UH he thinks he's slaughtering a try like
- 55:38Speaker 1: a caravan of urgles, which he's not really like that
- 55:41Speaker 1: beat up about. But when he's done and he kind
- 55:45Speaker 1: of comes out of his he comes a bit out
- 55:47Speaker 1: of his stupor the breath and the other drugs that
- 55:51Speaker 1: he was on kind of clear out of his system
- 55:53Speaker 1: a bit, and he realizes that he just slaughtered a
- 55:56Speaker 1: caravan of just innocent people. This this kind of brings
- 56:00Speaker 1: him back, uh brings him back into focus. And later
- 56:05Speaker 1: on when he comes back to nol Gorgoth, they put
- 56:07Speaker 1: him in his cell, and uh Murtzog while he's in
- 56:12Speaker 1: this cell, he actually he finds that he's not he's
- 56:15Speaker 1: not the only one imprisoned, but that there's also an
- 56:18Speaker 1: ergyle in uh in an adjacent cell from him, and
- 56:22Speaker 1: this urgyle is actually a shaman, so an ergyle spell caster,
- 56:28Speaker 1: and this ergle spellcaster Vac tries to get Murtog to
- 56:37Speaker 1: help him escape, and uh Murzog, now finding his force
- 56:45Speaker 1: of will returning to himself after especially after killing all
- 56:48Speaker 1: those people, it was enough to shock him back into
- 56:51Speaker 1: like somewhat u some form like former semblance of himself,
- 56:55Speaker 1: decides he really needs to break free from batch Hell's control,
- 57:02Speaker 1: and Ouvec reveals to Murtog that he has a special
- 57:07Speaker 1: talisman that has an enchantment on it that will heal him.
- 57:12Speaker 1: So if he could somehow activate it, it'll clear the breath,
- 57:16Speaker 1: they the effects of the breath and the other drugs
- 57:20Speaker 1: in his system from his body. And the thing is
- 57:23Speaker 1: the only thing he needs to do is just power it.
- 57:26Speaker 1: The thing is, Murtog is still too far gone to
- 57:30Speaker 1: allow us to be able to use it. Does give
- 57:33Speaker 1: it to give the talisman to him, and Murtog by
- 57:37Speaker 1: this point he had already befriended one of the cultics,
- 57:41Speaker 1: a girl, just a young younger girl who had started
- 57:46Speaker 1: becomes She had started to become disillusioned by Batchell, because
- 57:50Speaker 1: the thing is, it's one of those things where, like,
- 57:52Speaker 1: you know, you know, as like these religious occultic groups,
- 57:55Speaker 1: they teach you one thing about peace and love and
- 57:57Speaker 1: all that crap serving of God, and then they start
- 58:00Speaker 1: doing this shit where it's like, oh, this is highly
- 58:03Speaker 1: contradictory to what we've been taught. So now that Bachell
- 58:07Speaker 1: is becoming more transparent about their intentions and like what
- 58:12Speaker 1: they're really intending to do, especially in the servants of Aslager.
- 58:17Speaker 1: This girl becomes disillusioned, so Mertzog manages to convince her
- 58:26Speaker 1: to bring him food that's not laced with the drugs.
- 58:31Speaker 1: And the thing is, there's nothing he can do about
- 58:33Speaker 1: the breath because the breath is always administered to him
- 58:36Speaker 1: just before he's pulled out of his cells, so there's
- 58:39Speaker 1: nothing he can do about that. But he knows that
- 58:41Speaker 1: as long as he can free himself from the effects
- 58:43Speaker 1: of those drugs that impede him from using magic, he
- 58:48Speaker 1: should be able to activate Talisman and clear the effects
- 58:51Speaker 1: of both of whatever's left of the drugs from his system,
- 58:54Speaker 1: as well as the breath. It takes several days, but
- 58:58Speaker 1: unfortunately bachell A bochell, I'm losing my train of thought.
- 59:10Speaker 1: She what's the word her plans, She accelerates her plans
- 59:17Speaker 1: a bit too soon, and she and she pulls Murtog
- 59:21Speaker 1: from his cell. He still has both that gem with
- 59:25Speaker 1: all that magic energy stored in it, and he has
- 59:27Speaker 1: Uvek's charm. And even though he feels that most of
- 59:31Speaker 1: the drugs are most of the drug has left his system,
- 59:34Speaker 1: he still can't reach his magic, and he still can't
- 59:37Speaker 1: draw the power from this from his gemstone, so he's
- 59:43Speaker 1: pulled from this, he's pulled from the dungeons, he's administered
- 59:46Speaker 1: the breath again, and he's presented to Bachell one more time,
- 59:50Speaker 1: and she reveals that she's going to send him in
- 59:52Speaker 1: Thorn South to begin leading the Dreamers on their conquest
- 59:57Speaker 1: of Allegasia. And as Butchell is about is is about
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: to compel Murtog into doing uh doing her bidding, Murzog
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: finally breaks that barrier preventing him from using his magic.
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: He pulls the power from his gemstone and uses it
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: to and uses it to activate the healing charm. The
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: healing charm does its work. It clears his mind from
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: of the effects of the drugs. He uses his magic
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: to distract everyone and he quickly goes and freeze Thorn
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: and heals him. He goes back and freeze Uvek as
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: well and heals him, and the three of them begin
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: their assault and the rest of the of the settlement
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: of and the Battle of nal Gorgoth begins. Now most
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: of these people are not combat are non combatants, and
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: they do. While they do have a small force of
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: UH guards and soldiers there, it's not enough to overcome
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: a dragon and a spell casting urgle and a dragon
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: writer UH. Murzog, like Bachell, flees deeper into deep into
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: the catacombs beneath the temple. Murtog quickly grabs his sword
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: and his and the rest of his armor from behind
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: her altar and chases her down into the catacombs. UH.
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: He is confronted by the same no Uh before he
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: follows her. Deeper into the catacombs, he is confronted by
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: that same nobleman that he found that he met in Gilead,
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: and the two of them fight. Murtog finally kills him,
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: and Murtog and Uvec go deeper into the into the
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: catacombs UH. Murtzog tells Uvek to go back and help
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: Thorn while he pursues Batchell. Deeper into the catacombs UH,
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: he encounters more of the cult of the Occultists UH
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: he met. He quickly dispatches them. He goes. He finds
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: the Well of Dreams again, but he goes past it
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: and finds pathway leading even deeper into the earth. He
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: comes upon into an area that indeed they in terms.
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: He basically enters the under dark, finds glowing mushrooms, these
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: dark twisted creatures. Some look like these spider like creatures.
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: Others look like these weird rat like these rat humanoid creatures.
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: Rat humanoid creatures look like these humanoid naked mule rats,
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: buck tooth ugly blind, and he encounters these like spider
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: like kind of like like cave scorpions. You know, they
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: have these really they have really strong chittnis armor and
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: their armor is almost impervious to magic. So Murtag has
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: to rely on his on Zarak. And an interesting thing
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: about Zarak I should mention. Just before uh going down
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: into the catacomb. Into the catacombs, Murzog had been contemplating
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: zarac and its history, and he realized that he doesn't
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: want to continue using Zarak as it is. Okay, sorry,
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: sorry about that. I had to look up its new name. Uh.
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: So Zarak has had a deep history of misery and pain,
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: and it was it was used by his father Morzen
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: to cause so much suffering and pain. And Mrzog realizes
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: that he doesn't want to be anything like his father,
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: and he doesn't want to continue using Zarak as it
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: is like he's gonna keep He's going to keep Zarak
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: he's not giving it away. I should put that out there.
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: But he realizes that he needs to do a really
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: strong rebranding of this sort. He needs to make this
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: sword his and you know it, no longer is it
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: going to be Zarak, but he decides to rename Zarak
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: into Itherring. In the ancient language, ither ring means freedom,
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: because what what Merzak wants to do, What all he's
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: ever wanted was freedom to be free, to make his
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: own choices, to be free of pointless oaths or obligations
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: to serve horrid king. He was forced to swear in
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: the ancient language to serve Galbaltorg's wholeheartedly, and Bachell basically
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: broke him into being a slave as well. And all
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: he has ever wanted to be was free to make
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: his own path, and on some level he's wanted to
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: free the people. He also wanted to free the people
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: of Allegaisia as well, and that's what he wants to do,
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: and that's why he is fighting this fight right now
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: against Bachell, because he knows if he continued, if he
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: had uh, if he hadn't broken free of her control,
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: he would have brought more misery and suffering, probably more
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: than even Galbatorix had ever done. And what he wants
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: to do is make sure that the people are free.
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: So now he used So what he did was he
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: used the name of names to change uh the sword's
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: name from Zarak to it Ring. And when he does
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: when he did that, so Zarak had the blade itself
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: had a sigil on it, which is which is the
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: actual name of the sword. But when he uses the
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: name of name to rename it to ither Ring, the
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: sigil changes into the career, into the appropriate sigil in
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: the ancient language, meaning freedom. So now he carries the
- 1:05:48Speaker 1: sword ither Ring down into the catacombs. He fights off
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: these these under dark dwelling creatures and he eventually finds Uh.
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: He finds Bachell with the remaining with the remaining hosts
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: of her more committed cultists, and he confronts her there.
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: The thing is, he notices that Bachelle is carrying a
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: weapon called a doth dart. A doth dart is a
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: spear that was created by the elves during the original
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: war of between the elves and dragons, so before there
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: were dragon writers, before dragons and writers were bonded together.
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: The elves and the dragons had gone into a massive war,
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: and this war was very violent and bloody. Dragons were
- 1:06:46Speaker 1: killing elves, Elves were killing dragons. And the thing is
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: dragons had their own natural weapons, their their claws, their teeth,
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: and their breath of fire. Elves had magic, but they
- 1:06:56Speaker 1: needed something stronger because dragons are very resistant to uh
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: to elf magic. So the elves created a series of
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: weapons called Doth darts, which are the Darth darts Ya
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: are a series or were a line of spears, and
- 1:07:19Speaker 1: these spears were specifically designed to kill dragons. Last time
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: we saw this particular Doth dart called Niernin, It was
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: used by Ariya to slay shrew Kan. It's for it
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: first appeared in book four of the Inheritance cycle Inheritance Uh.
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: It was used by a servant of It was used
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: by a servant of Galbatorz to try to kill Sephira,
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: but he failed and the Doth Dart fell into the
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: Varden's hand, and Ariya would later use the Darth Dart
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: to fight and eventually slay the dragon shru Kan. But
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: Bachel had somehow managed to acquire it and she uses
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: it to fight Murtog. The fight was bloody. Murtog uses
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: his own magic against her. She uses her own verbless magic,
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: and it was a very close fight. And there's a
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: point where Murtog see, the thing is that Murtog was
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: already like worn out. So did you hear that?
- 1:08:19Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: I was like, I was like the fuck. Anyway, the
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: fight was bloody, and there was a point where Murtog
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: believes that he almost dies. But the cavern that they're
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: in is a crystal cavern, so there's just like a
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: bunch of these towering crystals around them. So while he's fighting,
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: while he's fighting Bachell, doing his best to hold her off,
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: he uses a spell to indirectly affect her. So he
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: casts a spell on one of the crystal pillars to
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: like weaken its structure, and he manages to lure Batchell
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: just close enough up to him, and he uses the
- 1:09:03Speaker 1: spell to break the pillar of crystal and it falls
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: and it crushes Baschell. Half of her is crushed and
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: her and her wards are not strong. We're not strong
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: enough to hold it keep it from completely crushing her.
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: So it quickly wears her out and she has no choice,
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: but the spells break and crushes the lower half of
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: her body. Mertzog manages to finish her off. Let me
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: see here, Yeah, he splits her head open with it ring.
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: So he met he manages to get the better of her,
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: crushes her lower the lower half of her body with
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: a huge crystal with a huge crystal. She still tries
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: to use one last attempt to kill him, but he
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: met is to overcome her and splits her head open
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: with a ring, and the battle is done, or so
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: we thought, you see Mertzog. Ever curious, uh, Ever curious,
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: he decides to look in the center of this crystal cavern.
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: He notices that at the very top, at the very
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: top of the ceiling, there is a opening, which he
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: assumes leads up to the Well of Dreams. But at
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: the but on the base of the cavern, there is
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: an even bigger hole leading down into a deep abyss.
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: And curious, he goes over and looks down into the abyss.
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: And because every few minutes this guyser of breath. Uh,
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: this is where uh, this is where Batchell was getting
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: her supply of the breath from which few up and
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: go up into the Well of dreams. But he noticed
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: throughout the fight. The cavern was constantly shaking. Every few minutes,
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: it would like rumble and shake, and a skuiser of
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: the breath would is shoot up into the air. So
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: he curious, he goes to the edge of the cavern
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: and looks down into it, and while he can't see
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: anything because it's just nothing but darkness, he uses his
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: mind and reaches down as deep as he could go,
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: and at first he feels he doesn't really feel anything,
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: but he does feel something shifting down there, and that's
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: when he feels the consciousness of a massive creature. We're
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: talking a gargantuan subterranean creature, and it is fiercely and
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: he could tell it's fiercely intelligent, Like this isn't some
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: like mindless, deep dwelling creature. This is like this is
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: like some sort of strange subterranean Leviathan like creature. And
- 1:12:10Speaker 1: in its thoughts were powerful and sinister, and it took
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: notice of Murtog's mind, and it tried to assault him,
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: but in his panic, Murtog cast one final spell that
- 1:12:19Speaker 1: drew the light, the ambient light from around him and
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: focused it into like a pillar like a beam, and
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: shot it down into the hole. The beam of light
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: was so brilliant that it ended up it did end
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: up hurting this creature, and it caused it to like
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: withdraw its mind from Murtog the amount of energy he used. However,
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: he was already very like he was extremely exhausted from
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: the expenditure of energy he had used so far, and
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: this last spell nearly killed him, but thankfully he was rescued. Yeah,
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: so the thing is is that Thorn could sense Murtog's
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: uh distress, especially throughout the fight with Bachel and Thor.
- 1:13:12Speaker 1: Thorn tried to enter the cave, but because of his claustrophobia,
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: he was terrified. But thanks to the urgency, like he
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: could sense that his rider was in danger, and thanks
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: to Uvek's urging, yeah uh, Thorn manages to overcome his claustrophobia,
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: at least for the most part. He's still panicking as fuck.
- 1:13:34Speaker 1: He's just like like running down into the cavern. He's
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: basically just like panicking the entire way. Poor guy, just
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: like like like I gotta get some perverse oh god,
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: naked rat people, Crystal, Okay, got you, let's go like
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: just booking it out of there. It was kind of funny.
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: But at the same time he was in complete panic mode.
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: The thing is is that Murzog was not only was
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: he on the of death because of the because of
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: the heavy expenditure of his magical power, but he's also
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: bleeding out because Bachell managed to get a good stab
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: with the doth Dart, so he was impaled and he's
- 1:14:14Speaker 1: also bleeding out. Murtog ends up blacking out and he
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: doesn't come to for like another few weeks later. When
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: he does come through, he finds that he is in Illyria,
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: capital of Nesuata's new kingdom, and he has a moment
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: of panic. He's like, oh shit, like and but he
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: finds that the cultist girl that he had befriended was
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: there with him. She assures him that he's safe and
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: he's not under arrest or anything, though he is confined
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: to quarters there is armed guards outside, but he does
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: also see that Thorn is there with him as well.
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: Think about Illyria is that when it was originally built
- 1:14:56Speaker 1: by the elves, it was also built with dragon writers,
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: mine and dragons as well, So a lot of the
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: buildings and structures are designed to allow dragons to be
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: able to like either walk through or stick their heads in,
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: so there was a space in this uh he was
- 1:15:11Speaker 1: being held in like a like an estate, like near
- 1:15:14Speaker 1: the central palace of the of the city. So it's enclosed.
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: Nobody can really see who's in there. Nobody really knows
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: who's in there. Nessuata had it completely uh clear it out,
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: and only select few people know that Murtog and Thorn
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: are in there. This swat is spellcasters and healers managed
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: to patch Murtag up and Uhmsuata herself eventually shows up
- 1:15:40Speaker 1: and they have a bit. They have a really decent
- 1:15:44Speaker 1: heart to heart, you know, Missuata kind of basic kind
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: of she confronts Murtog of the things that he had done,
- 1:15:52Speaker 1: and he also confronts her because throughout his travels he
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: noticed that many people still view him as the as
- 1:15:58Speaker 1: the villain because the thing is, in the end, Murtog
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: was able to break free of his oaths to Galbatorux
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: and helped Aragon and Ariya defeat Galbatorux. But he noticed
- 1:16:13Speaker 1: that nobody's really talking about that, so he does confront
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: her about it, like, so, well, yeah, I did all this,
- 1:16:22Speaker 1: but why haven't you told the people that in the
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: end I did help, and she tells him that she
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: did what she does, admit that she did what she can.
- 1:16:32Speaker 1: She told she did tell people that he did he
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: did his part. He helped the people, He helped them
- 1:16:42Speaker 1: defeat Galbatorux. But the thing is is that word like
- 1:16:45Speaker 1: that takes time to travel throughout the kingdom. So it's
- 1:16:49Speaker 1: even though she is pushed, she did push, and she
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: did make it clear that Murtog in the end had
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: turned against Galbatorux. It's more of the matter of, like
- 1:17:00Speaker 1: the story, what story is actually being shared with the people.
- 1:17:03Speaker 1: So she shared the story, and she so the people
- 1:17:06Speaker 1: closer to home know that what Murtog has done. The
- 1:17:10Speaker 1: rest of the kingdom, however, not so much. So she
- 1:17:16Speaker 1: admits that yeah, she does meant her failing to like
- 1:17:20Speaker 1: properly clear up clear the air about Murtog. But she
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: also confronts him about things he did, and she manages
- 1:17:29Speaker 1: to get the full story out of him, like what happened,
- 1:17:31Speaker 1: and he tells her and he even tells her that
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: what had what Bochela did, and that the dreamers are
- 1:17:40Speaker 1: still out there, and he also tells her of what
- 1:17:42Speaker 1: he had sensed deep beneath the earth that there is
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: a that Aslager may not be uh as far fetch
- 1:17:51Speaker 1: of a creature, maybe not so far fetched that it
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: most likely exists, but it's something more than just some
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: fixation of a cult. So Nasuata agrees that they need
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: to take this matter seriously, and she's going to start, ah,
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: she's going to definitely start cracking down on the Dreamers
- 1:18:19Speaker 1: because they're that they still oppose a very serious threat,
- 1:18:23Speaker 1: especially if as lag or Is is destined to rise
- 1:18:27Speaker 1: from the earth again are destined to rise from the
- 1:18:31Speaker 1: earth in general. Then she asked Murtog, what are you
- 1:18:36Speaker 1: going to do now? And he's not He's honest, he's
- 1:18:40Speaker 1: not entirely sure. And she admits to him because Murtog,
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: in his time with Bachell, had learned that there had
- 1:18:46Speaker 1: been several there were several people among the Swata's court
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: that are that are basically spies for the Dreamers there,
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: that they are part of the Dreamers. And she admits
- 1:18:58Speaker 1: him that she needs people like she can trust. And
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: while yeah, Murtog had it did his fair share of
- 1:19:04Speaker 1: you know, fucked up shit in the past, he's one
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: of the few people that she can honestly trust. And
- 1:19:11Speaker 1: after talking about it with him more. She convinces him
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: to stay in Illyria. And while he's going to be
- 1:19:19Speaker 1: he's going to be kept under his presence, there is
- 1:19:22Speaker 1: going to keep be kept under wraps for the time being.
- 1:19:24Speaker 1: She's going to eventually reveal his presence to the rest
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: of her court and that he's basically come around to
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: her side. Now. Murtog is understandably nervous about this, but
- 1:19:39Speaker 1: he agrees to stay because now he wants to be
- 1:19:41Speaker 1: part of something bigger than himself. He doesn't want to
- 1:19:44Speaker 1: be alone anymore, all right, And he does this very
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: hard thing. He admits that he needs help, which is
- 1:19:52Speaker 1: one of the hardest thing you can do. So it's
- 1:19:56Speaker 1: a unanimous decision made by him and Thorn and Nessuata
- 1:20:01Speaker 1: welcomes him and welcomes them home. And for those of
- 1:20:07Speaker 1: you who read these books, there's clearly some romantic subtext
- 1:20:11Speaker 1: between those two. It was hinted at back in book four,
- 1:20:16Speaker 1: because the two of them do bond in their during
- 1:20:19Speaker 1: their imprisonment in Urubane, and Murtak does help her, is
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: does somewhat help her while she's in prison, before event
- 1:20:28Speaker 1: and before he was eventually able to break free of
- 1:20:32Speaker 1: Galbatorux's oaths, his oaths to Galbatorus. The thing is is
- 1:20:36Speaker 1: that his oaths to Galbatorux were compelled through the use
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: of his true name, because Galbatoruz used his true name
- 1:20:43Speaker 1: to compel him to swear in the ancient language. The
- 1:20:46Speaker 1: thing is is that your your name in the ancient
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: language can actually change, So your true name changes based
- 1:20:55Speaker 1: on how your character changes. And well, because of his
- 1:21:01Speaker 1: affection for Asuata and his desire to help her and
- 1:21:04Speaker 1: protect her. In the end, Murtag's true name as well
- 1:21:08Speaker 1: as Thorn's true name changed, basically allowing them to completely
- 1:21:13Speaker 1: uh break free of their oaths to Galbatorux. That's why
- 1:21:17Speaker 1: they were able to turn against Galbatorux and overthrow them.
- 1:21:23Speaker 1: So this is where the story ends. Murtag agrees to
- 1:21:29Speaker 1: stay in Illyria and becomes an ally of Suata's court.
- 1:21:35Speaker 1: Now Ansuata tells him that he will need to swear
- 1:21:39Speaker 1: fealty to her as a warning, like, if we're going
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: to make this work, I need you. I need you
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: to be able to swear fealty to me. I'm not
- 1:21:48Speaker 1: going to force you to swear in the ancient language.
- 1:21:51Speaker 1: But still and he is reluctant, and it's kind of
- 1:21:55Speaker 1: he makes it clear he doesn't want to swear himself
- 1:21:57Speaker 1: to anybody, but in this case he will. He will
- 1:22:03Speaker 1: swear to help her in their coming fight. M hm.
- 1:22:07Speaker 1: It's kind of a bit of a it's it's a
- 1:22:09Speaker 1: topic of pride for him at this point. It comes
- 1:22:11Speaker 1: down to his pride because he doesn't want to be
- 1:22:13Speaker 1: bound to any one person. But now they have a
- 1:22:17Speaker 1: threat that's even they have a threat that's even bigger
- 1:22:20Speaker 1: than his pride or anything, especially considering if Aslager is
- 1:22:26Speaker 1: going to rise up from the deaths of the Earth
- 1:22:30Speaker 1: and from the scale, from the scale of this creature.
- 1:22:33Speaker 1: We're talking like this thing is massive, like shru Kan god.
- 1:22:40Speaker 1: I think tru Khan was probably the size of I
- 1:22:45Speaker 1: would say Godzilla minus one. So yeah, he was a
- 1:22:52Speaker 1: gargantuan sized creature, but as Lager seemed like it was
- 1:22:56Speaker 1: the scope of Aslager seemed to be. He was like
- 1:22:59Speaker 1: suggest that he was about the size of a small
- 1:23:03Speaker 1: mountain range. So sorry, James was messaging me. Uh so
- 1:23:23Speaker 1: this is the end of Murtog. I'd to say I
- 1:23:28Speaker 1: enjoyed it. I always enjoy Christopher Pelini's works, and hopefully
- 1:23:33Speaker 1: we get more in the Inheritance cycle. I'm so happy
- 1:23:36Speaker 1: that he decided to continue with it. And you know,
- 1:23:40Speaker 1: not to task shade to Christopher PERLINI, but let's hope
- 1:23:42Speaker 1: we're not waiting another twelve fricking years for another book. Cool,
- 1:23:46Speaker 1: because there, I'm not gonna lie. There is Uh, there
- 1:23:51Speaker 1: is a bit of a like a good time period
- 1:23:53Speaker 1: between each book that he writes. They are pretty lengthy,
- 1:23:58Speaker 1: so it's understandable. I mean it took them like after Inheritance, Uh,
- 1:24:04Speaker 1: it took him almost ten years to write his next book,
- 1:24:07Speaker 1: which was to Sleep Within a Sea of Stars. And
- 1:24:09Speaker 1: then not long after that he did write Fractal Noise. Uh.
- 1:24:13Speaker 1: And then now Murtog so he's he's he's starting to
- 1:24:16Speaker 1: push these books out more and more, which I'm really glad.
- 1:24:19Speaker 1: I I thoroughly enjoy these books, and I will say
- 1:24:24Speaker 1: to Sleep Within the Sea of Stars is going to
- 1:24:26Speaker 1: be one of the next books we review the next
- 1:24:29Speaker 1: week's episode. Next week's episode, Devin, we are reviewing.
- 1:24:36Speaker 2: Iron Flame.
- 1:24:37Speaker 1: Iron Flame, which is which is the second book of
- 1:24:42Speaker 1: that series? What is that series called again.
- 1:24:44Speaker 2: The Imperium series.
- 1:24:47Speaker 1: The Imperium period. Okay, so next week we're going to
- 1:24:50Speaker 1: be doing the second installation of the Imperium series, and
- 1:24:54Speaker 1: then the week after we're actually gonna go ahead and
- 1:24:56Speaker 1: finally review to Sleep Within the Sea of Stars. It's
- 1:24:59Speaker 1: a book that I've been I wanted to review for
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: some time now. I believe that was one of the
- 1:25:04Speaker 1: books that they were planning on making into a feature
- 1:25:08Speaker 1: length film or if not a series. I know the
- 1:25:10Speaker 1: Inheritance cycle is finally getting its own series on Disney Plus.
- 1:25:16Speaker 2: All right, that's right, that's right, It is right, Yeah,
- 1:25:19Speaker 2: it is right.
- 1:25:20Speaker 1: I don't know when it's set to come out. Most
- 1:25:22Speaker 1: likely it's gonna come out in twenty six or twenty seven,
- 1:25:25Speaker 1: so it's good. We still got like another year, a
- 1:25:27Speaker 1: year or two before that show comes out. I can't wait,
- 1:25:31Speaker 1: because Christopher Plini is going to have more, uh, he's
- 1:25:35Speaker 1: gonna have more influence over this book, over this series
- 1:25:39Speaker 1: than he did over the movie, which thank god.
- 1:25:44Speaker 2: Yeah, because that first movie, as you all can listen
- 1:25:47Speaker 2: back on the episode, it's it was shite.
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: Yeah it was with shit, so.
- 1:25:57Speaker 2: Yeah, it was Hopefully he'll have more control over it
- 1:26:01Speaker 2: this time around.
- 1:26:03Speaker 1: Yeah, it was hot garbage like oh my god. I
- 1:26:07Speaker 1: we we had an entire episode where we talked nothing
- 1:26:10Speaker 1: but shit about that movie. And I will say I
- 1:26:14Speaker 1: have a lot of high hopes for this show because
- 1:26:19Speaker 1: so far, Disney Plus did a really good job of adapting,
- 1:26:23Speaker 1: of adapting a really popular young adult like youth novel
- 1:26:29Speaker 1: into the into a series. I think they did a
- 1:26:31Speaker 1: really great job with the Percy Jackson series. And two
- 1:26:35Speaker 1: is gonna be coming out soon. I know. I think
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: it's gonna come out like later on in twenty five.
- 1:26:39Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it's coming out in twenty five.
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: Yeah, twenty twenty five. Yeah. Which, God, they gotta they
- 1:26:45Speaker 1: gotta start, they gotta get onto it. They gotta get
- 1:26:48Speaker 1: on it because it out because season two is gonna
