- 0:03Hi, I'm Jeff Allen. Thank you for listening to the
- 0:06slippery slope. So these do headlines well,
- 0:09unfortunately, they're just not surprising anymore.
- 0:12We can see this is where the church is going.
- 0:17Especially the, what we call, the more traditional traditional
- 0:21churches. I think they've strayed away
- 0:24from actually following the Bible, a long long time ago, and
- 0:28this is just another Nail in the coffin for them.
- 0:32This headline here comes from the guardian of both the
- 0:34headlines. Actually come from the guardian.
- 0:36The first one says Church of England should allow same-sex
- 0:39marriage says, Bishop of Oxford, the second headline which came
- 0:45out. Just after that article says
- 0:47five more Anglican Bishops back same-sex marriages in church.
- 0:52So, back to the first one, the Church of England, it says, the
- 0:56Church of England should allow same-sex marriage for
- 0:58congregation and Clergy. Okay, the bishop of Oxford has
- 1:04said becoming the first senior figure to weigh in on the
- 1:08subject? So the right Reverend dr.
- 1:15Steven Croft also acknowledged the acute pain and distress of
- 1:21lgbtq plus people in the life of the church and apologized for
- 1:26his own views being slow to change.
- 1:29He says, quote unquote slow to change but he said there must be
- 1:34a discourse into how the church tackles the subject in future.
- 1:40He goes on his quoted as saying Settlement must be founded on
- 1:43love and respect love and respect for lgbtq plus people
- 1:48and their families within and Beyond the church love and
- 1:52respect for those who take different views.
- 1:55He added in a 52 page, essay Croft apologized for the
- 2:01church's stance on gay relationships, specifically this
- 2:05slowly slowness to reach better decisions and practice on these
- 2:10matters. But the the bishop also said
- 2:13clergy must be able to refuse to opt into any new Arrangements
- 2:18saying that it should be recognized.
- 2:20That keeping a traditional view of marriage and human sexuality
- 2:25is a legitimate and honorable position craft statements is
- 2:30significant in light of the current laws which prevents
- 2:33Ministers of the Church of England from carrying out
- 2:36same-sex marriages in the peace. Croft said I need to acknowledge
- 2:40right at the beginning of CSA the acute pain and distress of
- 2:45lgbtq plus people in the life of the church I am sorry that
- 2:51corporately we have been so slow as a church to reach better
- 2:56decisions and practice on these matters.
- 2:59I'm sorry that my own views were slow to change in that my
- 3:03actions and lack of action of cause genuine hurt, disagreement
- 3:07and pain. I remain on a very steep
- 3:10learning curve. He says, as some of the other
- 3:12article, the five more Anglican Bishops back same-sex marriages.
- 3:18It says that these Bishops have backed a call for the Church of
- 3:22England to lift its ban on same-sex marriage in a sign that
- 3:26momentum may be building for a historic change.
- 3:31The Bishops of War, sister wore sister and Dudley her written to
- 3:36all clergy in their area saying the time has come for the church
- 3:40to celebrate and On a same sex relations, John Inge, a senior
- 3:46bishop and Martin gorik. A junior.
- 3:48Bishop in the diocese said, they favored.
- 3:52Same-sex couples being able to marry in church, although clergy
- 3:57should be permitted to act according to their conscience on
- 4:00the issue Inge added in a tweet. I stand convicted of being
- 4:05silent for too long and what I'm persuaded myself was the
- 4:10imperative of you know, Petit. I offer my apologies to all
- 4:15those who have been hurt The Bishop's of reading Buckingham
- 4:19and Dorchester all tweeted their endorsement of an essay.
- 4:24Published on provided by Steven Croft are the bishop of Oxford
- 4:28arge. Arguing at that, the Church of
- 4:30England should end its refusal our refusal to allow same-sex
- 4:34couples to marry in church. Listen, there's not much more to
- 4:40either articles What surprises me in both of these articles and
- 4:45these interviews that they've done with all of these Bishops,
- 4:49these so-called leaders within their respective churches?
- 4:52Is that, there is no reference at all to the Bible, not a with
- 4:57of referencing the Bible at all. You know, for the plethora of
- 5:02scriptures that describe homosexuality as a sin as, as in
- 5:08any other sexual act outside of marriage, Okay.
- 5:12As in all other sexual immorality outside of marriage
- 5:15is this isn't just a bagging on homosexuality, and the likes,
- 5:21but sexual immorality is a sin, and there is nothing in these
- 5:26articles. There is no talk of scripture
- 5:29from any of these, so-called leaders in the church.
- 5:32These Bishops, Junior Bishops? No, no, referencing, scripture
- 5:37at all. What I don't understand is how
- 5:40they've decided, 41. How can they apologize?
- 5:44They are they're apologizing for the Bible and how they can they
- 5:47come to this conclusion? And now they are deciding.
- 5:51What is sin? What is not sin?
- 5:53I was reminded of something that pass the time youth put up on
- 5:57Instagram actually and it's just a little simple little saying,
- 6:01it says the church does not determine what the Bible
- 6:04teaches. It is the Bible that determines
- 6:08what the church must teach. However, Progressive churches
- 6:14like the ones that were talking about here today, have decided
- 6:18that they can declare what is sin, and what is not.
- 6:21They twist the word of God to suit their own needs to suit
- 6:25their own desires. Instead of following the word of
- 6:30God, unfortunately. It seems like these Bishops,
- 6:34these ministers from the church of England from the Anglican
- 6:37church and not reading their Bible.
- 6:39They're not studying their Bible, they are simply studying,
- 6:43or they are simply following human emotion.
- 6:46And going with the flavor of the day, they are directly leading
- 6:50their followers into the Gates of Hell, by not teaching the
- 6:55word of God. That's my opinion.
- 6:59Please let me know what you think.
- 7:00And thank you for listening to the slippery slope.
