- 0:28Hey everybody, good morning from the porch.
- 0:30It is raining, it is dark and I am recording up here.
- 0:35You can probably hear the frogs are going crazy because of the
- 0:38rain. So it's one of those days.
- 0:41In any event, we were talking about pushing the wrong button.
- 0:45Now I know this might sound strange because we often talk
- 0:48about pushing buttons and having our own buttons pushed, but it
- 0:51there was, there's just so many great lessons in our everyday
- 0:54life and when they show up, I have to share them.
- 0:58So a few years ago we had an incident in our house where
- 1:03Lucas cut his foot on a shell and he had to soak his foot in a
- 1:08pan, a pan of water, so to speak, got him a little bin, put
- 1:12his foot soaking in Epsom salts because he had this cut and we
- 1:16weren't sure if it was from an oyster shell.
- 1:18And those are pretty dangerous and you have to make sure that
- 1:20they don't have bacteria in them.
- 1:23So he's constantly soaking his foot.
- 1:25He's lying, you know, half on the couch, foot in the bin on
- 1:29the floor, and he jumps up and the clicker, the remote control,
- 1:35I refer to it as a clicker from the television, falls into the
- 1:39bin of water and it fries it. Now this particular remote
- 1:44control hat was very simple. It had like 5 buttons on it.
- 1:49It was from a Samsung, very sleek, very small.
- 1:53It was very easy to use and it was fried and I could not get
- 1:58another one because they didn't sell them outside of buying the
- 2:00television, at least at that time a few years ago.
- 2:04And we had to buy a universal remote.
- 2:06Now, if anyone's ever used a universal remote, you know, they
- 2:09come with lots of different buttons, lots of different
- 2:12instructions and they can be a real pain in the butt.
- 2:16And it took a hot minute for us to learn how to use this remote.
- 2:21But Mark has rarely learned to use this remote.
- 2:25And it's very funny because every time he picks it up to use
- 2:28the remote. And for those of you who are new
- 2:29and listening, Mark is my husband.
- 2:31And he will just grab it. And then he'll, you know, always
- 2:36inevitably say damn it, like, where is this?
- 2:39Because he can't figure out where these buttons are.
- 2:41And I always laugh because I'm like, it's not that complicated,
- 2:44but it can be that complicated. So yesterday he had this thing
- 2:49where he wasn't feeling great, head thing going on, lying on
- 2:53the couch, and he said it a number of times about how much
- 2:57he dislikes this remote. So I was laughing at him saying
- 3:00it wasn't this difficult, it's not a big deal.
- 3:03And then this morning, of course, I get up and I go to
- 3:07find out what the weather is because I can see that it's, you
- 3:10know, not great outside. And I grab the remote.
- 3:15I go to turn on local way early, like 4:00 in the morning weather
- 3:20to see what's happening. And lo and behold, I can't seem
- 3:25to get this thing to work. And I'm, I'm like, what is going
- 3:29on? And I'm just looking at the
- 3:30television at this point. I'm not looking at the remote
- 3:33because I believe my fingers are doing the right thing.
- 3:38And I'm like, why is it not going anywhere?
- 3:40Why is it stuck? So immediately my brain goes to,
- 3:43oh, I wonder if the service is out.
- 3:46I wonder if something else is happening because of the
- 3:48weather. And there's a good 30 seconds
- 3:51that I'm doing this. And then I realize, well, maybe
- 3:54I should look at my hand. And I look down at my hand and I
- 3:57am pressing the wrong button. And I started to laugh because
- 4:01that's what happens to him. He presses the wrong button and
- 4:03I'm like, OK, lesson learned for me that I shouldn't always make
- 4:07a comment. I should just be like, well,
- 4:09you're on the right button. And also it was such a great
- 4:13metaphor because I swore I was doing everything.
- 4:16I swore I was doing it right. I stood there and I was, come
- 4:20on, come on, Why isn't this working?
- 4:22And getting frustrated and my emotions are going up and I feel
- 4:25myself going up, up, up and getting aggravated that Oh no,
- 4:28what if the the Internet is down and I've got to work and I've
- 4:31got to go through all. It was going to be a major
- 4:33difficult thing to traverse. But instead it was really
- 4:37simple. I was just pushing the wrong
- 4:39button. And if I had checked from the
- 4:43very beginning, if I had just taken a second and said, am I
- 4:46pushing the right buttons, I would have had 0 aggravation out
- 4:50of it. But I did have a podcast out of
- 4:53it because not that I was going to talk to you about this today,
- 4:55but I thought it was just so pertinent because how often do
- 4:58we ourselves push the wrong button in life?
- 5:01How do we often do we keep going and trying the same thing over
- 5:05and over, insisting we're doing it correctly, insisting we don't
- 5:09have those emotions behind the scenes happening, insisting that
- 5:12we're moving in the correct direction when the whole time
- 5:16we're pushing the wrong button. And if we just stopped and
- 5:19pushed the right button, things would get a lot easier.
- 5:22So remember that. Ask yourself that question, am I
- 5:25pushing the right button? Am I in the right space?
- 5:29Am I doing the right things? Because sometimes you can't move
- 5:32forward when you're just pushing the wrong button my friends.
- 5:34And you'll never get the weather.
- 5:36I hope you guys have a blessed day and I will see you tomorrow.
- 5:39Bye.
