- 0:07Speaker 1: Head books. Welcome into the Irish Steeters Podcast. The podcast
- 0:12Speaker 1: or Irish Pittsburgh Steeters fans across out of the Darland
- 0:15Speaker 1: and beyond. Michael mcquid, Jimmy English, Dan mckeeth. As we
- 0:20Speaker 1: roll in to Super wild Card weekend, the Steelers have
- 0:24Speaker 1: another game this weekend. We're in the playoffs, baby, Jimmy.
- 0:29Speaker 1: Look after a few weeks ago, if you give me
- 0:32Speaker 1: a Super Wildcard game, I would have bit your arm off.
- 0:34Speaker 1: We're here playoff football. There's nothing like it isn't well.
- 0:39Speaker 2: I was out for dinner there on Sunday evening making
- 0:42Speaker 2: I had one eye on my phone keeping an eye
- 0:44Speaker 2: on the score of the Jags on the Coast game,
- 0:46Speaker 2: and luckily they just sorry the Jags in the Titans
- 0:49Speaker 2: game even and the Titans came through and put us
- 0:52Speaker 2: through to the Super Wildcare weekend. So we live to
- 0:55Speaker 2: fight another day. In long may continue. We might be
- 0:59Speaker 2: seeing the Steeers Vegas yet, you never know. But look great,
- 1:02Speaker 2: great to be here, Great to still be rolling after
- 1:04Speaker 2: the regular season with at times looked like it was
- 1:07Speaker 2: gonna be gonna go down in flames. So long may continue.
- 1:12Speaker 1: The three game loser, I think, I think a lot
- 1:13Speaker 1: of us. Not that we lost hope, but it's so
- 1:16Speaker 1: hard sometimes to pick yours havelf up from that and
- 1:18Speaker 1: to see the team pick themselves up and make that
- 1:21Speaker 1: run at the end of the season great to see,
- 1:23Speaker 1: especially when you don't have your first choice quarterback available
- 1:26Speaker 1: for a few weeks and you bring in somebody else.
- 1:28Speaker 1: So it's been great to see over the last few weeks.
- 1:30Speaker 1: Dave As said the Jimmy and Jimmy said it was
- 1:32Speaker 1: up not only playoff football. There's so many teams sitting
- 1:36Speaker 1: on the soapers this weekend watching the games. We're gonna
- 1:39Speaker 1: see the Steelers. We'll talk about that Buffalo game in
- 1:41Speaker 1: a while, but great to be here a game and
- 1:43Speaker 1: the podcast lives on for at least another week. How
- 1:46Speaker 1: you doing well?
- 1:47Speaker 3: Like yeah, the pod Shaws lives on. The Steelers live
- 1:49Speaker 3: on as well. Wich You Attain is more or less
- 1:51Speaker 3: like a playoff week in itself. But just watching that
- 1:55Speaker 3: Titans and the Gays game, biting the finger nails off myself,
- 1:58Speaker 3: was just and it just came down to the last
- 2:01Speaker 3: wire and thankfully for us it swung in our way
- 2:05Speaker 3: and the Titans we have a big thank you. Just
- 2:07Speaker 3: sand to rebel despite him losing his job today. But now,
- 2:11Speaker 3: apart from that, it was it was fantastic to be
- 2:14Speaker 3: in the in the playoffs last year. Of course we
- 2:16Speaker 3: weren't there at Peas Ages since we watched a Steelers
- 2:19Speaker 3: playoff game. But yeah, it's good to be back.
- 2:21Speaker 1: Good to be back. And it's funny, Jimmy, because they
- 2:24Speaker 1: have sort of talked about how a WEIK eight team
- 2:25Speaker 1: felt like the playoffs just a really weird feeling across
- 2:30Speaker 1: the whole weekend. I really enjoyed the slate on Saturday,
- 2:33Speaker 1: and I guess before we go into talking about the
- 2:36Speaker 1: game against the Ravens, just briefly touched on it before
- 2:38Speaker 1: we look ahead to this weekend. We know the Steelers
- 2:41Speaker 1: fans show up. We've seen them show up in Dublin
- 2:43Speaker 1: at the watch party. We've seen how many fans were
- 2:45Speaker 1: at the Allegiance Stadium for that game at the primetime game.
- 2:47Speaker 1: Know we had a few weeks ago Tali what hopefully
- 2:49Speaker 1: we see a lot more black and yellow in Allegiance
- 2:51Speaker 1: Stadium in around three or four weeks time, please go
- 2:54Speaker 1: on for the super Bowl. But I was really and
- 2:58Speaker 1: I know it's not that far away on the road
- 3:00Speaker 1: for tackling both teams. But I was blown away by
- 3:02Speaker 1: then what the Steelers fans are. It was awesome. It
- 3:04Speaker 1: was like I wouldn't say it was like a many
- 3:06Speaker 1: home game, but certainly I think that I think the
- 3:08Speaker 1: bonds definitely helped that team get over the line. And
- 3:11Speaker 1: what's always tough place to go to all the primetime
- 3:13Speaker 1: game as well.
- 3:14Speaker 2: Yeah, when you consider the weather as well and make
- 3:17Speaker 2: I mean it was absolutely atrocious Mt. Banks Stadium on
- 3:20Speaker 2: Sunday for the Ravens game, and it was great to
- 3:23Speaker 2: see that this soggy, terrible tales being twirled in the air.
- 3:28Speaker 2: At one point there was that there was a great
- 3:29Speaker 2: cry of mooth when when Friar caught a past. So absolutely,
- 3:34Speaker 2: I mean we've seen all season really how well the
- 3:36Speaker 2: Steelers fans traveled, and even again see after a couple
- 3:39Speaker 2: of weeks ago there was there was a great continue
- 3:41Speaker 2: the Steelers fans there so not the crowd and the
- 3:45Speaker 2: support has definitely had an impact on how well the
- 3:48Speaker 2: team has played this year, and so they need to
- 3:51Speaker 2: be they definitely need to be grateful for that.
- 3:53Speaker 1: We're now listening to the Mason Rudolph Appreciation Society. It
- 4:00Speaker 1: is Look, a win to the Staters is almost a
- 4:01Speaker 1: good thing. But to go to Baltimore, Yes, they were
- 4:04Speaker 1: resting players, but we said this last week. They've got
- 4:06Speaker 1: efficient backups both a quarterback with Tyler Huntley, and they've
- 4:10Speaker 1: got a decent run game no matter who's there. Gus
- 4:12Speaker 1: Edwards and but Tyler Hunting as well had a decent game.
- 4:16Speaker 1: Melvin Gordon didn't have a great game for the Ravens,
- 4:18Speaker 1: but that defense for the Steelers. We will talk about.
- 4:21Speaker 1: TJ in a minute, gets the team over the line.
- 4:23Speaker 1: Mason looking good, the team looking good as well, Deonte
- 4:26Speaker 1: Johnson as well. Happy days. Wins a win, we move on,
- 4:30Speaker 1: and I don't know a lie the people. I think
- 4:33Speaker 1: we all said in the podcast last week that we're
- 4:35Speaker 1: you know, we've boughtably win. I was nervous cluded to that.
- 4:38Speaker 1: I was like, God, you just yous, like like if
- 4:41Speaker 1: it was a game in Pittsburgh. Okay, but I was nervous.
- 4:43Speaker 1: I think a lot of people were as well. But
- 4:45Speaker 1: it's worked out. What was your just overall thoughts to
- 4:47Speaker 1: the other performance on the field last Saturday.
- 4:49Speaker 3: Yeah, I know you're you're Red Mick was. It was
- 4:51Speaker 3: nervous because it's a divisional game against our biggest rivals.
- 4:54Speaker 3: You know, great, great win of course on the road,
- 4:56Speaker 3: and as Jimmy just said, one of the worst conditions
- 5:00Speaker 3: you'll ever see. Just being from Ireland, we don't am
- 5:02Speaker 3: with them, you know, we're used to rain over here.
- 5:04Speaker 3: But you know, despite that, you know the Ravens starter
- 5:07Speaker 3: sitting it out, you know they're still there's still like
- 5:09Speaker 3: obviously you feel real feel of discontent between the two.
- 5:12Speaker 3: You know, they wanted to come in and spoil the party,
- 5:15Speaker 3: and after long periods it looked like they might get
- 5:17Speaker 3: their wish. But you know, fair play to the guys
- 5:19Speaker 3: is stuck in there in extremely tough conditions and you
- 5:22Speaker 3: know for large parts you know yourself and Jimmy or
- 5:25Speaker 3: my witness, and I was wanting Kenny introduced. You know,
- 5:28Speaker 3: I thought Mason looked a bit sluggish in comparison to
- 5:31Speaker 3: the past two weeks. But I felt that, you know,
- 5:33Speaker 3: he was made any hope on the ball for a
- 5:35Speaker 3: bit too long. Albeit the offensive line was struggling early
- 5:38Speaker 3: on as well, didn't help him out. But looking them back,
- 5:41Speaker 3: I was probably a bit two reactionary in the moment,
- 5:43Speaker 3: and I just thought, you know, it's due or day.
- 5:45Speaker 3: You know, if we lose here, we're out and we
- 5:47Speaker 3: better switch up just before it's too late. But fair
- 5:50Speaker 3: player to Mason. You know we came up Trump's in
- 5:52Speaker 3: the with a big play that Deante which evactively won
- 5:56Speaker 3: us the game and it allowed us to pound the
- 5:58Speaker 3: rock with Nage. By the way, been incredible for us
- 6:01Speaker 3: the past couple of weeks. You know, Isaac c Malo
- 6:03Speaker 3: is another player who deserves a massive shout out. I
- 6:05Speaker 3: thought he was excellent. Didn't allow a sack throughout all
- 6:08Speaker 3: the eighteen weeks, so overall, really happy. Wasn't the Sages
- 6:12Speaker 3: back in the playoffs? I'll have said, you know, we
- 6:14Speaker 3: were right there last year, and you know we with
- 6:16Speaker 3: as Mac Tomlin says, the standard and the stander at
- 6:19Speaker 3: the Pittsburgh Leaders have to be in the playoffs each
- 6:21Speaker 3: and every year. So it's glad to be back and
- 6:23Speaker 3: glad to be watching the Seeders mit January as as
- 6:26Speaker 3: we should be.
- 6:28Speaker 2: Nai it was Nagie's. It was Nagi's third back to
- 6:31Speaker 2: back to back pousing yard rushing season and a career
- 6:36Speaker 2: I think he had a season nine career rushing touchdowns
- 6:38Speaker 2: this year as well, playing ten rushing touchdowns and so
- 6:42Speaker 2: like just like like you say, I mean, I agree
- 6:44Speaker 2: with you that Mason didn't look Mason wasn't wasn't playing
- 6:47Speaker 2: its best. I mean, it looked like he was actually
- 6:50Speaker 2: afraid of throwing the deep ball. Really, I think he
- 6:52Speaker 2: won deep shot down field early on to to Deandon
- 6:56Speaker 2: Johnson that that was missed. And then apart from the
- 6:59Speaker 2: touchdown pass which was all the anti Johnson. Really it
- 7:03Speaker 2: was a great pass. He squeezed it in there and
- 7:05Speaker 2: it was a tight it was tight coverage. Fair play
- 7:07Speaker 2: to him. But I mean, you would have liked to
- 7:09Speaker 2: have seen and take a couple of more deep shots.
- 7:11Speaker 2: And obviously the weather was the factor. But yeah, I mean,
- 7:15Speaker 2: and what was the story with George Pickings getting you
- 7:18Speaker 2: need targets? E there have?
- 7:19Speaker 1: Yeah, like it's that was one that even the commentators
- 7:22Speaker 1: started to pick up on in the third quarter. And
- 7:24Speaker 1: I was gonna actually ask you that, Jimmy, I'll ask
- 7:28Speaker 1: you first before it would have did completely agree with
- 7:29Speaker 1: what you boys said. A Nagy great to see. I'd
- 7:32Speaker 1: love to see a we'll talk about the Bills game
- 7:33Speaker 1: in a bit. I'd love to see a combination team
- 7:35Speaker 1: between him and jail and getting as much as possible
- 7:37Speaker 1: this weekend. But yeah, George not getting in them, I mean,
- 7:41Speaker 1: very strange. The way that I see it is this, right,
- 7:45Speaker 1: I don't care who's in the field. If you're throwing
- 7:47Speaker 1: somebody the ball, they catch it and they running, I'm
- 7:48Speaker 1: happy enough. If you're a team guy, you're a team guy.
- 7:51Speaker 1: I just I'm just happy that the Steelers won the game.
- 7:54Speaker 1: But I guess fans us everybody wants to see George
- 7:58Speaker 1: too well as well. But the thing is that Jimmy
- 8:00Speaker 1: George Pickens could have a break like another big breakout
- 8:03Speaker 1: game this weekend, in a huge game. If Pickens was
- 8:06Speaker 1: to have one or two touchdown bosses in Buffalo, that
- 8:09Speaker 1: could be the hell of a lot going in there.
- 8:12Speaker 2: I think he needs to have another breakout game, honestly.
- 8:14Speaker 2: I mean, we've seen when he's given the ball. I mean,
- 8:17Speaker 2: can you even see it? If he sees one on
- 8:18Speaker 2: one with George, he's George is getting the ball. And
- 8:21Speaker 2: there was a number of situations, a number of scenarios,
- 8:24Speaker 2: perhaps later on in the game, when the Ravens might
- 8:26Speaker 2: have identified that he wasn't being targeted as much where
- 8:29Speaker 2: he was in one on one situations and he wasn't targeted,
- 8:32Speaker 2: So just very very strange. I mean after after the
- 8:36Speaker 2: run of games that he had, I mean, particularly against
- 8:38Speaker 2: the Bengals. I mean, he was just phenomenal against the Bengals,
- 8:42Speaker 2: absolutely torturing them. So you would have thought, especially with
- 8:45Speaker 2: the connection that he has shown with Mason, that he
- 8:47Speaker 2: would be involved a lot more so. Definitely a player
- 8:52Speaker 2: that you want to have primed in the playoffs, especially
- 8:55Speaker 2: when it's it's a winner go home, and considering the
- 8:58Speaker 2: fact that we're already going to be to copleted on
- 9:00Speaker 2: defense against against Buffalo and we might necessarily be able
- 9:05Speaker 2: to rely on our defense as much as we'd like.
- 9:07Speaker 2: The offense is definitely gonna have to step up in
- 9:09Speaker 2: a big way and have a big game.
- 9:12Speaker 1: We will look at that, I guess in a little
- 9:14Speaker 1: bit and sort of see the crack and will also
- 9:16Speaker 1: react to the news on TJ at Watts and all
- 9:19Speaker 1: let's do go first in the second, but certainly let's
- 9:21Speaker 1: go first and hear from coach Mike Tomlin, the head
- 9:24Speaker 1: of the huge super wild Card game this weekend against
- 9:27Speaker 1: Buffalo in upstate New York.
- 9:31Speaker 4: You know, we've got familiarity with Buffalo. We've got familiarity
- 9:34Speaker 4: with that venue. I'm sure they say similar things about us.
- 9:38Speaker 4: It's January football. They have a lot of tape to
- 9:41Speaker 4: digest and analyze and to prepare for as do we.
- 9:46Speaker 4: And so it's chestnut checkers this time of year. We're
- 9:48Speaker 4: really excited about it. I'll start talking about them first offensively.
- 9:54Speaker 4: If you're talking about slowing them down offensively, man, you
- 9:56Speaker 4: start first and foremost with Josh Allen, who is just
- 9:59Speaker 4: an credible competitor. They utilize his talents and his competitive
- 10:04Speaker 4: spirit very well. That can be displayed by their design
- 10:08Speaker 4: run game and weighty moments, possession down, red zone situational moments.
- 10:14Speaker 4: He's got fifteen rushing touchdowns on the season. Boy, that
- 10:18Speaker 4: is something to deal with. And so's challenging. The mathematic
- 10:23Speaker 4: or the schematic component of quarterback mobility, particularly from a
- 10:26Speaker 4: design run standpoint, is really challenging, especially when you have
- 10:31Speaker 4: the passing talents that he has and the and the
- 10:35Speaker 4: arsenal of people to spread the ball around. Two at
- 10:38Speaker 4: running back, they've got really good quality depth. Cook is
- 10:40Speaker 4: a thousand yard rusher four nets. Has brought a little
- 10:44Speaker 4: thunder to that lightning in recent weeks, we'll have a
- 10:48Speaker 4: we'll have our hands full working to try to minimize
- 10:50Speaker 4: the things that they do in the run game with
- 10:54Speaker 4: their collection of backs and Cook being foremost in that.
- 10:58Speaker 4: In the passing game, uh Stefan Diggs, Gabe Davis, kN
- 11:03Speaker 4: Ka Cook, they have a lot of options and Josh
- 11:07Speaker 4: Allen does a really nice job of spreading the ball
- 11:10Speaker 4: around to those options. You can work to destroy the
- 11:14Speaker 4: natural rhythm in which they operate, but you know, a
- 11:18Speaker 4: strepth of his game is ad libbing and extending plays,
- 11:22Speaker 4: and so you know, certainly we want to throw off
- 11:25Speaker 4: the rhythm of the things that it is that they do,
- 11:27Speaker 4: but it creates another set of issues for you defensively
- 11:31Speaker 4: as he utilizes his talent to extend plays and to
- 11:35Speaker 4: and to maybe run to throw. He sees the full
- 11:39Speaker 4: feel as he as plays get extended. It's just a
- 11:43Speaker 4: real challenge. And obviously we've had our challenges, particularly in
- 11:46Speaker 4: the interior portions of our defense over the second half
- 11:50Speaker 4: of the season, as as attrition is set in in
- 11:53Speaker 4: terms of matching up on tight end like bodies, particularly
- 11:57Speaker 4: in situations, and so they got a formidable tight end
- 12:01Speaker 4: tandem that's going to have more of our attention, particularly
- 12:04Speaker 4: as we get into the week, and started looking at
- 12:07Speaker 4: elements of situational play, because that's been an issue for us,
- 12:10Speaker 4: and if you're not making people settle for field goals
- 12:13Speaker 4: in January, you're not gonna be in the tournament very long.
- 12:16Speaker 4: And so those are some of the things that kind
- 12:18Speaker 4: of have our attention on that side. Focusing on Buffalo's
- 12:23Speaker 4: defense man, they have unbelievable talent and depth upfront. What
- 12:31Speaker 4: they've invested in their front and the quality of that
- 12:35Speaker 4: investment is very evident when you watch tape. They had
- 12:38Speaker 4: a formidable group man going into last summer. They added
- 12:41Speaker 4: to that group with Leonard Floyd and I think he's
- 12:44Speaker 4: added ten and a half for him. They did long
- 12:47Speaker 4: contract business with Oliver. He's got nine and a half.
- 12:52Speaker 4: Some of the other young guys, some of the young
- 12:54Speaker 4: eds dynamic guys they've drafted and you're watching them develop
- 12:58Speaker 4: in all the appropriate ways and impact games in dynamic ways,
- 13:02Speaker 4: whether it's sack sack fumbles or tip passes. You got
- 13:06Speaker 4: to be really careful in terms of the screen game,
- 13:09Speaker 4: perimeter passing, and so forth. Their dynamic edge group man
- 13:14Speaker 4: get their hands on a lot of balls and create
- 13:18Speaker 4: havoc in that way, and so that has our attention.
- 13:22Speaker 4: Obviously environmentally, it has our attention when you're talking about
- 13:27Speaker 4: quality rushmen in the front like that, if we get
- 13:29Speaker 4: one dimensional in an environment like that, if we get
- 13:31Speaker 4: behind the chains in an environment like that, they have
- 13:34Speaker 4: the type of group that can really provide splash. And
- 13:37Speaker 4: so we better do a good job of not being
- 13:39Speaker 4: highly penalized, not having a lot of negativity and what
- 13:42Speaker 4: it is that we do. And those are some of
- 13:44Speaker 4: the main ways that you stay on schedule and minimize
- 13:47Speaker 4: one dimensional opportunities for collective like that, and we better
- 13:51Speaker 4: do a really nice job of doing so. We also
- 13:55Speaker 4: just better do a nice job of being thoughtful in
- 13:58Speaker 4: one dimensional passing moments to make sure or that we're
- 14:01Speaker 4: not creating an environment where they can provide a wave
- 14:04Speaker 4: that the Bills ride just got a lot of respect
- 14:06Speaker 4: for the front, their secondary. They've got awesome continuity, particularly
- 14:11Speaker 4: the interior portions of their secondary. Johnson Pourrier and Hide Man,
- 14:18Speaker 4: it seems like they've been back together, been back there
- 14:20Speaker 4: together for over you know, half a decade or so.
- 14:24Speaker 4: That continuity is evident. And how they adjust, how they communicate,
- 14:28Speaker 4: how they minimize explosion plays in the run and in
- 14:32Speaker 4: the past, they do a nice job of corraling the
- 14:35Speaker 4: ball and keeping a lid on it. Their dynamic playmakers, blintzers, tacklers,
- 14:41Speaker 4: coverage people, tailor rap has been an awesome addition to him.
- 14:48Speaker 4: He's a guy that started capable. They get in diying
- 14:50Speaker 4: packages on on possession downs. They play all three of
- 14:54Speaker 4: those safeties, dynamic bunch. They lead a turnover culture that's
- 15:01Speaker 4: displayed in their ball awareness and production in that area.
- 15:04Speaker 4: They punch balls out, they rake balls out, They're very
- 15:08Speaker 4: ball aware. There's a lot of spot drop zone coverages. UH,
- 15:12Speaker 4: they have vision to break. They do a nice job
- 15:14Speaker 4: of reading and reacting to quarterbacks and and getting multiple
- 15:19Speaker 4: people to the action.
- 15:20Speaker 1: UH.
- 15:21Speaker 4: They play well as a collective. Again, continuity is a
- 15:25Speaker 4: component of that, and obviously Sean mcdermot's been there for
- 15:31Speaker 4: for a number of years now and that's kind of
- 15:32Speaker 4: displayed in in the high floor, but also just the
- 15:36Speaker 4: splash play capabilities within the group as well. And so
- 15:41Speaker 4: there's a lot to be excited about from a challenge perspective.
- 15:45Speaker 4: Venue life without TJ and obviously playing without TJ is significant,
- 15:52Speaker 4: but to be quite honest with you, We've played without
- 15:55Speaker 4: a lot of people this year. It's just another opportunity
- 15:57Speaker 4: for us to strike a blow for teams and to
- 16:01Speaker 4: display what team really means, collective of individuals that work
- 16:06Speaker 4: together in an effort to produce an outcome. It's not
- 16:09Speaker 4: gonna be a one man job in terms of replacing TJ.
- 16:12Speaker 4: Just like I stood before you and said similar things
- 16:14Speaker 4: when Cam Heyward missed a block of games, it is
- 16:17Speaker 4: going to be a committee approach. Even in doing so,
- 16:22Speaker 4: we better strengthen our output in other areas because TJ
- 16:28Speaker 4: is one of a kind. But that's ball. There's a
- 16:30Speaker 4: nutrition component to it. That's what makes it the ultimate
- 16:33Speaker 4: team game. I'm excited about preparing this group, knowing on
- 16:37Speaker 4: the front end of this week the resources at our disposal,
- 16:40Speaker 4: the manpower, the talents, the amount of time and so forth,
- 16:44Speaker 4: and now we get an opportunity to prepare and lean
- 16:47Speaker 4: in on some legitimate action.
- 16:50Speaker 1: Good to hear from coach Tomlin. And it's funny the
- 16:52Speaker 1: because we keep getting the news before we recorded last week,
- 16:56Speaker 1: we need a quarterback situation within twenty minutes of recording
- 16:59Speaker 1: this week with the same evening TJ Watt obviously is
- 17:03Speaker 1: a great two mc l Springing and I love tech.
- 17:09Speaker 1: I love Twitter doctors the pop up during games and
- 17:12Speaker 1: they give you all the diagnosis. I think we all
- 17:14Speaker 1: sort of held a little bit of hope he might
- 17:16Speaker 1: play this week. Not going to happen, and for TJ
- 17:18Speaker 1: want to play again this season, the Staters need to
- 17:21Speaker 1: get a win against the Bills to even make that
- 17:23Speaker 1: remotely happen. Hopefully TJ rests up. Hope he's okay, and
- 17:26Speaker 1: I know a lot of that. I know every Staeters
- 17:28Speaker 1: fan across the island of Ireland send some of our
- 17:30Speaker 1: best wishes. You must be good at Dave are.
- 17:33Speaker 3: You absolutely got it back. And as I was just saying,
- 17:38Speaker 3: we were always open out hope because he is super human.
- 17:40Speaker 3: I mean, this guy regenerates muscle strange sprains four times
- 17:46Speaker 3: faster than any other outverage human. So that's just one
- 17:48Speaker 3: of those things where we were hoping out for. But yeah,
- 17:52Speaker 3: it's obviously a massive blow at the end of the day,
- 17:55Speaker 3: it's our star defensive player. But at the same time,
- 17:57Speaker 3: you know it's it's always going to be nax Man up.
- 17:59Speaker 3: You know, we've got Nick Herbig who anybody listens to
- 18:03Speaker 3: this podcast knows don rightly that we we believe in
- 18:06Speaker 3: every single inch of him to come up trumps and
- 18:09Speaker 3: step in and hopefully, you know, fill that void. But
- 18:12Speaker 3: then apart from that, you know, we've still got players
- 18:15Speaker 3: on the defensive side. They're obviously going to be able
- 18:16Speaker 3: to step in and hopefully kick the load off. You know,
- 18:19Speaker 3: we've still got Chalmeran Heyward, We've still got Ale sit
- 18:21Speaker 3: Smith at the other side. So at the end of
- 18:24Speaker 3: the day, you know, it's it's really about Neximu up
- 18:26Speaker 3: and hopefully we can give him that second playoff game.
- 18:28Speaker 3: You know, as I say, it's a tough task going
- 18:30Speaker 3: into Buffalo and winning, but hopefully, you know, we're going
- 18:33Speaker 3: to be able to give them that as well as that.
- 18:35Speaker 3: There is rumors of course that there there will be
- 18:37Speaker 3: another what brother playing and on that side. I don't
- 18:40Speaker 3: know if you've seen J. J. Watts twitter posts got
- 18:42Speaker 3: me a little excited, But who knows, maybe he might
- 18:45Speaker 3: show up in Buffalo on Sunday afternoon.
- 18:49Speaker 1: Loving post retirement j J. Jimmy. It's funny just because
- 18:52Speaker 1: he was given us so many updates A but TJ
- 18:55Speaker 1: great great to obviously see the brotherly love there. The
- 18:58Speaker 1: WhatsApp group for US Boys was popular, not in the
- 19:00Speaker 1: good way when he went down. I guess we just
- 19:04Speaker 1: hope that we have that opportunity to seem out there
- 19:06Speaker 1: againting this season, because they're gonna have to. The defense
- 19:08Speaker 1: is gonna have to stab up and play from this begind.
- 19:11Speaker 2: I mean, the reason he's just the NFL sack came
- 19:14Speaker 2: three years in a row of finishing this year, it's
- 19:16Speaker 2: like and a half ahead of Trey Henderson. I believe
- 19:20Speaker 2: with nineteen, he's just phenomenal. I mean, we cannot stay
- 19:24Speaker 2: enough how rucial TJ. White is to this, to this
- 19:28Speaker 2: team and to this team's success. I mean, he literally
- 19:31Speaker 2: puts the team on his back, gaming game out. So
- 19:35Speaker 2: obviously a massive loss considering as well kind of the
- 19:38Speaker 2: wealth of offensive weapons that the Bills have, and in
- 19:41Speaker 2: terms of you know, we all know how how mobile
- 19:44Speaker 2: Josh Allen is. It's fantastic rushing James Cook there as well.
- 19:48Speaker 2: I mean a top qual that he's running back. So
- 19:52Speaker 2: it's it's gonna be hard, and I just hope that
- 19:54Speaker 2: Marcus Golden and Nick Rubricker can somehow combine to fill
- 19:58Speaker 2: that gap then never be able to re precicate EJ
- 20:00Speaker 2: and what he brings. But yeah, look it's gonna be
- 20:04Speaker 2: tough and he's gonna be sorely missed. So yes, hopefully
- 20:07Speaker 2: indeed we can somehow find a way to beat the
- 20:09Speaker 2: Bills away this weekend, gets through to the divisional round
- 20:13Speaker 2: and give TJ the playoff game he deserves.
- 20:17Speaker 1: Before we look at that Bills game, let's finally hear
- 20:20Speaker 1: from a special guest, gladly to welcome back carry G
- 20:23Speaker 1: footballer Patty Clifford as he joins us a crunch time
- 20:27Speaker 1: in the season. Steers got a huge game this Saturday
- 20:29Speaker 1: against the Buffalo Bills, a super wild card weekend. Great
- 20:32Speaker 1: to hear from Paddy, Delighted to welcome into the Irish
- 20:37Speaker 1: Theaters podcast, probably the most well known Staeters fan, I'd
- 20:40Speaker 1: say in the island of Ireland. Carrie Zone, Paly Clifford party.
- 20:45Speaker 1: I have to value. I think I either text you
- 20:48Speaker 1: it was immediately after the game and Weekly eighteen or
- 20:51Speaker 1: the day after going party. It's time. It's the playoffs.
- 20:54Speaker 1: We have to get you on and you wholeheartedly oblige
- 20:57Speaker 1: that vulsh welcome Heiden, but good.
- 21:00Speaker 5: Yeah, I know it was.
- 21:02Speaker 6: I suppose the welcome surprise that that would look forward
- 21:05Speaker 6: to the playoffs and on Sundays, So yeah, a welcome
- 21:09Speaker 6: surprise would look forward to now.
- 21:12Speaker 1: And that day and Kroker party seems you know, a
- 21:15Speaker 1: long time to go now that the year is just
- 21:17Speaker 1: flowing in. I guess that somebody had his eddy this
- 21:20Speaker 1: time last year, that whole year would have happened. You
- 21:22Speaker 1: would have thought it was mad. I remember you were
- 21:24Speaker 1: saying for people listening, you weren't at the event in
- 21:27Speaker 1: Dublin because I think your your your team Foster was
- 21:30Speaker 1: playing on the Sunday or something. I mean, you must
- 21:32Speaker 1: have had serious fom watching that because here it was
- 21:36Speaker 1: great Crack and Croker and I'm sure you can't wait
- 21:38Speaker 1: to the next.
- 21:38Speaker 6: One, Yeah, exactly, Yeah, I know I was obviously disappointed
- 21:42Speaker 6: as missy event, so so hopefully no, I'll be able
- 21:44Speaker 6: to make the next one. Looked like great Crack and
- 21:47Speaker 6: it was great to see such a big crowd sporting
- 21:49Speaker 6: the Steelers.
- 21:50Speaker 3: Just wondering, Partty, did you get the chance to watch
- 21:52Speaker 3: much for epicision. You know, I've know the lodge on here.
- 21:54Speaker 3: You know they were able to watch nearly close to
- 21:57Speaker 3: every stop. But someone like yourselves. You have a bit
- 21:59Speaker 3: of a busier she hadule than us the time. Much
- 22:01Speaker 3: did he get to watch in the end?
- 22:03Speaker 6: Yeah, look, I got to watch I suppose most of
- 22:07Speaker 6: the Stears games. And if I didn't get to watch
- 22:09Speaker 6: it live, i'd watch I'd watch it back or watch
- 22:12Speaker 6: the highlights or whatever.
- 22:13Speaker 5: So no, I didn't. I didn't miss many Stedier games
- 22:16Speaker 5: Stedars games anyway.
- 22:18Speaker 1: Just just on average party, you know, going in commonly
- 22:21Speaker 1: the week nineteen of the season officially called Super wild
- 22:23Speaker 1: Card weekend, there had there Look, there's been ups, there's
- 22:27Speaker 1: been downs. There was a few weeks there where it
- 22:29Speaker 1: looked like the playoffs might not have happened, but it
- 22:31Speaker 1: has happened. How would you, I guess, just in your
- 22:34Speaker 1: own just in your own words, the fan sort of
- 22:36Speaker 1: sum up how you find the season for you so far,
- 22:39Speaker 1: and there's still hopefully a decent way to go.
- 22:43Speaker 6: Yeah, look, I suppose it's hard to kind of uh,
- 22:47Speaker 6: it's hard to be over over the optimistic because we're
- 22:51Speaker 6: kind of dealing with this snow for the last few years.
- 22:54Speaker 6: We obviously struggled into the playoffs the last few years,
- 22:58Speaker 6: but like I was was, looky, we have and we
- 23:01Speaker 6: have a differential of minus twenty, which obvious season where
- 23:04Speaker 6: you want to be. But again it just shows how
- 23:08Speaker 6: good Tom is and how there's great termination in there
- 23:11Speaker 6: to keep keep making our way into the playoffs, even
- 23:14Speaker 6: though as you said, we struggled a bit happy to
- 23:16Speaker 6: be there and the course.
- 23:18Speaker 3: I just I just obviously listened to that podcast from
- 23:20Speaker 3: earlier in the season party and you know your both
- 23:22Speaker 3: production actually was for the Staders and make the playoffs.
- 23:25Speaker 3: We just about got there in the end. We at
- 23:27Speaker 3: all worried halfway through the season that it wasn't going
- 23:29Speaker 3: to happen.
- 23:30Speaker 5: Very worried, very worried.
- 23:31Speaker 6: I was, I was, I had nearly I had actually
- 23:35Speaker 6: resigned the fact that we weren't going to make the playoffs.
- 23:37Speaker 6: There was a few very very poor weeks there, maybe
- 23:43Speaker 6: yeh three quarters the way through the season, halfway two,
- 23:46Speaker 6: and the offenses wasn't firing and the defense was poor
- 23:49Speaker 6: as well at the time, so I had resigned to
- 23:51Speaker 6: the fact that we weren't going to make it. I
- 23:55Speaker 6: think my prediction at the start of the year I
- 23:57Speaker 6: was a bit more optimistic than than we actually that
- 24:00Speaker 6: how we actually did, even though it's obviously great to
- 24:02Speaker 6: make the playoffs. I thought it might be a bit better,
- 24:04Speaker 6: But as I said, I'm happy that we're in the
- 24:07Speaker 6: playoffs and always still have a chance.
- 24:09Speaker 1: Misson Rudolph comes in now and he's obviously officially been
- 24:12Speaker 1: named the starter going into this weekend in Buffalo, top
- 24:15Speaker 1: of the Bills in a week second but different quarterback
- 24:18Speaker 1: to Kenny Pickett. I was impressed at just how the
- 24:21Speaker 1: team got over the line and weekly a team, even
- 24:23Speaker 1: though it was the I guess it a weekend or
- 24:26Speaker 1: a sort of a reserve Ravens team to an extent,
- 24:29Speaker 1: but Misson Rudolph especially, was it that game around Christmas?
- 24:32Speaker 1: Done really really well. It brings a bit of a
- 24:35Speaker 1: freshness to the position. How do you find him so far?
- 24:37Speaker 6: Partly yeah, good, I like obviously known Rudolph for a
- 24:42Speaker 6: good few years. He's an ager passer, but his pocket
- 24:46Speaker 6: presence isn't great, But he is an afpert passer, and
- 24:50Speaker 6: I suppose he's kind of playing his last chance. I
- 24:53Speaker 6: suppose for him, he's he kind of feeled, so he's
- 24:55Speaker 6: he's thrown the shackles off a bit. Whereas obviously maybe
- 24:59Speaker 6: pick and obviously Trusky just wasn't good enough. But maybe
- 25:04Speaker 6: Picktt was kind of playing within himself a bit, whereas
- 25:06Speaker 6: maybe Rudolph as throng the shackles off. And I suppose
- 25:11Speaker 6: when we have good, good weapons, they need they need
- 25:14Speaker 6: a bit of a bit of aggressive quarterback play. So
- 25:17Speaker 6: it's it's worked out well and hopefully he can keep
- 25:19Speaker 6: it going.
- 25:20Speaker 3: You know what I'd like to imagine, you know, the
- 25:21Speaker 3: playoffs sort of correl it with the All Aaron Football Series.
- 25:24Speaker 3: You know, if you like, you know, you get through
- 25:26Speaker 3: the National League, get three monster. I suppose you could
- 25:28Speaker 3: say it's a bit like the regular season in the NFL.
- 25:30Speaker 3: He sounds much body when you're in straight up knockout football.
- 25:33Speaker 3: Is there much of a difference, you know, compared with
- 25:35Speaker 3: a traditional or maybe we can afford a bit of
- 25:37Speaker 3: a heck up here throughout the league and stuff. Is
- 25:39Speaker 3: there much of a difference when you feel it is
- 25:41Speaker 3: back to the wall knockout football?
- 25:44Speaker 6: Yeah, I suppose, Yeah, Look, there is there is a difference.
- 25:46Speaker 6: There's a different you have a different mindset. And I
- 25:50Speaker 6: suppose that might actually work in the Steiers favorite that
- 25:53Speaker 6: the builds. There could be a bit of nerves with
- 25:55Speaker 6: the builds they've they've I suppose been close to delivering
- 25:59Speaker 6: for a few years, haven't delivered. So again, if if
- 26:02Speaker 6: they lose again the next DA against the Steers, it's
- 26:05Speaker 6: not going to be I suppose that they'll be really
- 26:08Speaker 6: it'll be a head scratcher for them. So maybe maybe
- 26:11Speaker 6: we could play on that and maybe Alan could make
- 26:13Speaker 6: a few mistakes and and maybe benefit from it.
- 26:16Speaker 5: We could benefit from it.
- 26:17Speaker 1: How does Pauly Clifford watch either the game or the
- 26:21Speaker 1: highlights of the Bills game against the Dolphins when it's
- 26:24Speaker 1: on at three o'clock or four o'clock in the morning,
- 26:26Speaker 1: irish had I mean only I was struggling for where
- 26:29Speaker 1: they're not gonna lie Sunday night. But one thing I
- 26:31Speaker 1: took away from it was the belief that the Bills
- 26:33Speaker 1: have and their team Like we've seen him play in
- 26:35Speaker 1: London firsthand and was sitting from here to the wall
- 26:37Speaker 1: from Josh Allen and he looked like a lot that
- 26:39Speaker 1: was just down trodden and done for the season. Five
- 26:42Speaker 1: or six weeks in, they've completely turned it the round
- 26:45Speaker 1: and we have to find a way to go in
- 26:48Speaker 1: to that stadium and find a way to sort of
- 26:52Speaker 1: carve out and stop that atmosphere they look hot, and
- 26:55Speaker 1: that's putting it lightly.
- 26:57Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 26:58Speaker 6: Look, I suppose it's probably, howbably one of the worst
- 27:00Speaker 6: straws we could have got if you think about it, really,
- 27:03Speaker 6: I probably is the worst straw we could have got,
- 27:04Speaker 6: especially having to go to Buffalo. But there is Look,
- 27:09Speaker 6: there's I think obviously our run game has improved massively
- 27:14Speaker 6: in ledgy rs is playing very well, so I suppose
- 27:16Speaker 6: we could definitely we could definitely have joy in the
- 27:20Speaker 6: run game. The only thing we obviously we need to
- 27:22Speaker 6: we need to contain Josh Allen or else if they
- 27:24Speaker 6: gonna lead. If they're gonna lead on us, obviously we
- 27:26Speaker 6: won't be able to run and it won't be as effective.
- 27:28Speaker 5: So I suppose that's where the defense.
- 27:30Speaker 6: If the defense gonna have a good start and contain
- 27:33Speaker 6: at on some bit, maybe our run game could. As
- 27:35Speaker 6: I said, we could have joyed from the run game
- 27:37Speaker 6: and maybe maybe go from there.
- 27:39Speaker 5: Yeah. I agree.
- 27:40Speaker 3: I think if we don't get off their good dart,
- 27:42Speaker 3: you know, it could be curtains. But hopefully Fingers Stross
- 27:44Speaker 3: we do you and you know, just even when we've
- 27:46Speaker 3: talked about t J Watt so much on this podcast
- 27:49Speaker 3: over the past couple of weeks spacially, you know, the
- 27:51Speaker 3: injury isn't great. Give us voted the MVP a couple
- 27:53Speaker 3: of weeks ago up for the team. I'm just wondering, party,
- 27:55Speaker 3: who would be your MVP? Would you maybe Corley with
- 27:58Speaker 3: the rest of them, or is there anybody maybe the
- 27:59Speaker 3: culture but you wouldn't expect.
- 28:04Speaker 6: Yeah, look, obviously it's obviously hard to it's hard to
- 28:08Speaker 6: look past TJ. Watt would be would be the MVP.
- 28:11Speaker 6: His his stats tell the tell their own story. But
- 28:16Speaker 6: it's obviously it's been very it's been very good to
- 28:18Speaker 6: see Nagie Harris in the last few weeks playing playing
- 28:21Speaker 6: the best he's ever played for the Steiers. Because it
- 28:24Speaker 6: not that it looked like he was a bus but
- 28:25Speaker 6: I suppose it didn't look like he was a first
- 28:27Speaker 6: round running back. So so maybe maybe he can make
- 28:32Speaker 6: he maybe he can live up to his first round
- 28:35Speaker 6: to where he was speaking the draft now that he's
- 28:38Speaker 6: he started to play and he's got his conference back,
- 28:40Speaker 6: because he is a player that that we can hopefully,
- 28:45Speaker 6: hopefully we've been cheering on for.
- 28:46Speaker 1: Years to come, just talking on the Steelers and talking
- 28:49Speaker 1: on obviously Mike Tomlin pay seventeen years streak now winning
- 28:53Speaker 1: record for this team. Now, there's not too many coaches
- 28:56Speaker 1: in the guy that would even go for seventeen years,
- 28:58Speaker 1: never mind that annount. But that is some streak. Never
- 29:02Speaker 1: mind the fact that they've just been you know, having
- 29:04Speaker 1: that winning season, never had a losing season, And obviously
- 29:08Speaker 1: we want more than that this season going forward, But
- 29:11Speaker 1: that's still some some feet and I think we'll be
- 29:13Speaker 1: looking back in twenty years time looking at that as greatness,
- 29:15Speaker 1: to be honest.
- 29:15Speaker 5: With, unbelievably unbelievable.
- 29:18Speaker 6: He's he just seems like a great man manager and
- 29:22Speaker 6: everyone wants to play for him, and obviously he yeah,
- 29:28Speaker 6: he's just able to get the best out of the seam.
- 29:29Speaker 6: And obviously I suppose it's obviously like we're obviously all
- 29:34Speaker 6: going to be disappointed that that we haven't won a
- 29:36Speaker 6: playoff game in a long time now, and we as
- 29:41Speaker 6: as Steels friends, we want more. We want to get
- 29:43Speaker 6: back to where we're compete with for super Bowls. But
- 29:46Speaker 6: but that record is just obviously an unbelievable record, and
- 29:51Speaker 6: if he could just get us back to that, I
- 29:53Speaker 6: suppose the top table it would it would cementum semintum
- 29:56Speaker 6: has been one of the greatest coaches ever.
- 29:59Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 30:00Speaker 3: Agree, more just just a final one from me, Potter.
- 30:02Speaker 3: You know, George Pekins was a bit of a topic
- 30:04Speaker 3: earlier on the podcast for us and didn't have any targets,
- 30:07Speaker 3: didn't get any receptions last week against the Ravens. If
- 30:10Speaker 3: you think of yourself, mate, where maybe you haven't had
- 30:13Speaker 3: the best game, how would you maybe try and bounce
- 30:15Speaker 3: back from that one? Obviously he's a professional, He's going
- 30:18Speaker 3: to come back and track, you know, play his best game.
- 30:21Speaker 3: But how would you normally bounce back after a tough
- 30:23Speaker 3: like a tough game maybe where you weren't playing as
- 30:25Speaker 3: well as you thought you could.
- 30:28Speaker 6: I suppose it's it's it's slightly different that that Pickens,
- 30:32Speaker 6: that that the game plan I suppose wasn't didn't revolve
- 30:35Speaker 6: our own Pickens or didn't didn't bring him into the game,
- 30:37Speaker 6: whereas I suppose in our game you could go looking
- 30:41Speaker 6: for the ball, Whereas there's that really much Pickens can
- 30:44Speaker 6: do there. So I think we need to get him
- 30:46Speaker 6: into the game plan more this week. And I know
- 30:49Speaker 6: that he has been in the last few weeks other
- 30:50Speaker 6: than last week, but we just need to get him
- 30:52Speaker 6: into the game plan more and let him go to
- 30:55Speaker 6: work because we all are the tality has and I
- 30:59Speaker 6: think we're we're not going to be beating the Bills
- 31:01Speaker 6: unless we get a good game of the pickings.
- 31:03Speaker 1: Just finally, as you've been very gracious to join us
- 31:05Speaker 1: at such a busy time now, as you guys are
- 31:07Speaker 1: getting prepped for the year ahead, and look, you've had
- 31:11Speaker 1: a stater Wellbyn County career to date and low make
- 31:14Speaker 1: continue for you, Brash, listen to you and your family
- 31:16Speaker 1: on that. But there have been games, like any sports,
- 31:20Speaker 1: sports stars or athlete, where you go in the games
- 31:23Speaker 1: and sometimes you're the underdog. A lot of people look
- 31:27Speaker 1: at the Stadlers going in this weekend as the underdog.
- 31:29Speaker 1: What sort of motivation do you have to have going
- 31:31Speaker 1: out there and Saturday? Because the reality is, but the
- 31:34Speaker 1: minute that ball it's frown, both teams are oh oh.
- 31:37Speaker 1: And this postseason is almost like a new season and
- 31:40Speaker 1: momentum nothing else really counts. And at this defense, surely
- 31:44Speaker 1: there's a chance that something can happen. Give us some optimism.
- 31:47Speaker 5: Put there's definitely a chense.
- 31:49Speaker 6: Yeah, as I said earlier, we need to we need
- 31:52Speaker 6: to contain them early and our defense needs to contain
- 31:56Speaker 6: them early. We need to hope that josh Allen has
- 31:59Speaker 6: has a future and overs which has what she is
- 32:01Speaker 6: capable of doing if we can get enough pressure on him.
- 32:04Speaker 6: We have a fairly decent record against mobile quarterbacks. We
- 32:09Speaker 6: usually do fairly well against Lamar Jackson. Obviously we didn't
- 32:14Speaker 6: do too bad against Kyler Murray. We didn't beat him,
- 32:16Speaker 6: but he didn't beat us with our legs with his legs. Sorry,
- 32:19Speaker 6: So yeah, look, we can contain him, make him, hopefully
- 32:23Speaker 6: make a few mistakes. A big game from Rudolph and
- 32:27Speaker 6: the weapons that we have, we have a chance.
- 32:30Speaker 5: We have a chance. Softly, I'll take that.
- 32:33Speaker 1: PAULI, thanks so much for coming on. I know it's
- 32:36Speaker 1: you're always busy, but you were very generous to call it,
- 32:39Speaker 1: quite frankly a busy time of the year fe a
- 32:41Speaker 1: few months ago. We definitely appreciate it, with no doubt
- 32:44Speaker 1: that hopefully we'll see at some Steels events down the
- 32:46Speaker 1: line in twenty twenty four, and I know you probably
- 32:49Speaker 1: feel the same. It's been great to see what they've
- 32:51Speaker 1: done in the gods of the year, and I'm sure
- 32:54Speaker 1: we'll get you on. If not the preseason hopefully coming
- 32:57Speaker 1: in the next season, and sure luck if we get
- 33:00Speaker 1: towards the Super Bowl, will have the other game in
- 33:02Speaker 1: the meantime. All the best of the year apart from
- 33:05Speaker 1: if he feels us and me and they ever laughing
- 33:07Speaker 1: here already if Trump player carry But apart from that,
- 33:09Speaker 1: the very very best this year and the best. Sea
- 33:12Speaker 1: for being so supportive of this podcast. But it's great
- 33:14Speaker 1: to have an Aubus Steers fan of Ireland to chat
- 33:17Speaker 1: so appreciate it. Ponty and Chatty soon, thanks very much
- 33:19Speaker 1: for having me on. Holly Clifford on the Irish Staters podcast. Boys,
- 33:27Speaker 1: where do we go?
- 33:27Speaker 5: Here?
- 33:28Speaker 1: Where do we go? Now? I have to say this.
- 33:30Speaker 1: First off, we obviously go to bed and we you know,
- 33:33Speaker 1: we don't hear about the timings of these games set
- 33:36Speaker 1: until we wake up. And I went to bed, Jimmy,
- 33:38Speaker 1: I was hoping, I was praying. I thought, right, give
- 33:41Speaker 1: me the Saturday night game, or give me that early
- 33:43Speaker 1: Sunday game. And we got our wish six o'clock this Sunday,
- 33:49Speaker 1: and again for Steelers fans across the island of Ireland,
- 33:51Speaker 1: game is on television on Sky Sports NFL. You can
- 33:53Speaker 1: listen to no TV as well. Jimmy, what are your
- 33:57Speaker 1: keys to this game? Because I think some times people
- 34:00Speaker 1: are very quick to say, oh, it's in Buffalo, It's
- 34:03Speaker 1: gonna be very, very difficult to win a game, not
- 34:05Speaker 1: just against Josh Allen, step On Diggs, but Bill's mafia one.
- 34:08Speaker 1: The last time I checked, Steelers are one Steelers were
- 34:11Speaker 1: one game back off them. On the record this season,
- 34:14Speaker 1: the Steelers had multiple games this year where I personally
- 34:17Speaker 1: felt the cold about either Wall. Look at that watch
- 34:19Speaker 1: party they were so you know, they were so close
- 34:21Speaker 1: scoreline wise of turning that game around. It's something that
- 34:23Speaker 1: went their way. Obviously we know what Mason Rudolf's going
- 34:26Speaker 1: to start a quarterback. We've seen the Bills this season
- 34:30Speaker 1: be up and down like a yo yo. I've never
- 34:33Speaker 1: seen someone as deflated as Josh Allen in London, like
- 34:37Speaker 1: literally face to face after that game. And for them
- 34:39Speaker 1: to be in a position they are now after beating Miami,
- 34:42Speaker 1: you have to give them credit. But I certainly think
- 34:45Speaker 1: Jimmy the pressures on Buffalo here, Buffalo already talking about
- 34:49Speaker 1: three or four games to go this year. Pittsburgh have
- 34:52Speaker 1: as much chance, I think as anybody going in. But
- 34:54Speaker 1: they need take it off. Well, they need to get
- 34:56Speaker 1: a good start to this game, and that has to
- 34:58Speaker 1: come in the form of efficient, lasting game, but more
- 35:00Speaker 1: so a strong run game and that defense coming up.
- 35:04Speaker 1: What's your thoughts of this game my month.
- 35:05Speaker 2: Yeah, it's like you're saying, making mean, I think the
- 35:08Speaker 2: Steelers have nothing to lose. I mean, they were written
- 35:10Speaker 2: off halfwarch of the season, not a hope of making
- 35:12Speaker 2: the playoffs. So I think this is this is like
- 35:13Speaker 2: bonus football for us. We're going into into Buffalo, into
- 35:17Speaker 2: Upstate New York this weekend with literally nothing to lose,
- 35:20Speaker 2: everything to play for. So I think the pressure is
- 35:24Speaker 2: definitely on on Josh Allen and Sean McDermott. And like
- 35:28Speaker 2: you said, Josh Allen has been absolutely mercurial this year
- 35:32Speaker 2: this season. A game you don't know which version of
- 35:34Speaker 2: him you're going to get, So it depends is it
- 35:36Speaker 2: going to be the dynamic run thrash slinging the ball
- 35:40Speaker 2: all over the place, where it's going to be the
- 35:41Speaker 2: interception machine. So I think whatever version of Josh Allen
- 35:45Speaker 2: shows up on Sunday is going to have a massive
- 35:48Speaker 2: factor in this game. And as well as that, I mean,
- 35:51Speaker 2: we have we ourselves need to get our own offensive go,
- 35:54Speaker 2: our own offense going a lot more like we said
- 35:57Speaker 2: earlier on in the podcast, I mean, George Pickens has
- 35:59Speaker 2: to be a key part of this offense on Sunday.
- 36:02Speaker 2: You have to feed him the ball early and often,
- 36:05Speaker 2: as soon as he even shows that he's open, marginally open,
- 36:08Speaker 2: feeding the ball, get him going. And I think we
- 36:12Speaker 2: have to score. We certainly have to score at every
- 36:15Speaker 2: available opportunity, not just steel goals, but actual touchdowns which
- 36:19Speaker 2: have been redaively hard to come by this season. So
- 36:24Speaker 2: a much better performance from the offense because I think
- 36:27Speaker 2: the offense will have to carry the defense a little
- 36:29Speaker 2: bet against Buffalo, and we look, we saw that against Seattle.
- 36:33Speaker 2: I mean they did a different past the job against
- 36:35Speaker 2: Seattle in what was effectively a playoff game for us
- 36:38Speaker 2: before we knew we were making the playoffs. So more
- 36:41Speaker 2: of that and just yeah, let's all across our fingers
- 36:46Speaker 2: that we get past the Bills.
- 36:48Speaker 1: Just on that, I'm going from what Jimmy said, do
- 36:50Speaker 1: you have you know, completely agree with Jimmy says, you're
- 36:53Speaker 1: looking at twenty four to twenty yet to thirty one points,
- 36:56Speaker 1: almost like going into the rowhead trying to get those
- 36:57Speaker 1: points on the board and hoping the defense does his job.
- 37:00Speaker 1: But it's funny because a woman that was on our
- 37:03Speaker 1: podcast if he used to go with Phoebe Shacter this
- 37:06Speaker 1: chatting earlier all over something else and you know, throwing
- 37:08Speaker 1: her name in here, but she was saying about how
- 37:09Speaker 1: confident the mood is in Buffalo and they feel that
- 37:11Speaker 1: this is their time, this is their year, and that
- 37:15Speaker 1: when you're a team in form, it doesn't matter what
- 37:17Speaker 1: happened week twelve, thirteen, fourteen, fifteen, sixteen, seventeen. It matters
- 37:20Speaker 1: about here and now. But the reality is the every
- 37:23Speaker 1: team is owing, oh, going in. It doesn't matter if
- 37:26Speaker 1: we see Mason Rudolph ball Off on Sunday, we see
- 37:29Speaker 1: we see Mason Rudolph ball Off and the Steelers hopefully
- 37:33Speaker 1: go through the divisional round. I reserve judgment. I'm going
- 37:37Speaker 1: to stay positive and it's a huge opportunity for Mike
- 37:41Speaker 1: Tomlin and the Stears team to you know, show what
- 37:43Speaker 1: they have to the league on a prime time for us,
- 37:47Speaker 1: but more so that key one o'clock spot in on
- 37:49Speaker 1: the East Coast. What what's your honest spots, David, do
- 37:52Speaker 1: you feel like the Steelers can win this game, or
- 37:55Speaker 1: are you a little bit pessimistic going into this week?
- 37:57Speaker 3: Look back, I will won't the idea out of Buffalo
- 38:01Speaker 3: or Kansas City. You know, I was sort of praying
- 38:03Speaker 3: I would wake up on Monday morning and saying that
- 38:04Speaker 3: the Dolphins had to beat them, because I was sort
- 38:07Speaker 3: of praying for the Chiefs. You know, they've been an
- 38:09Speaker 3: extremely ordinary all the year. I genuinely think we would
- 38:12Speaker 3: have had an enormous chance of beating them. But at
- 38:14Speaker 3: the same time, as you say, beggars just can't be
- 38:15Speaker 3: choosers and we'll have to saddle for Buffalo. You know,
- 38:18Speaker 3: I was watching the game on Sunday night, and I
- 38:20Speaker 3: was hoping that I'll say, the Dolphins would do as
- 38:22Speaker 3: a favor. But you've got to give the Bills crodit.
- 38:24Speaker 3: You know the sort of resilience they have shown midway
- 38:26Speaker 3: through the season, and you know, they were clearly the
- 38:28Speaker 3: batter team in every aspect on Sunday night. So as
- 38:31Speaker 3: Jimmy said, Josh Allen, he's an absolute animal, as we know,
- 38:34Speaker 3: but he is beatable. You know, they've got a bit
- 38:37Speaker 3: of a turnover issue. Only sam Ha has thrown more
- 38:39Speaker 3: in theirceptions this year than Josh Allen, So there's always
- 38:42Speaker 3: that We've got a pretty good receiving core. You know,
- 38:44Speaker 3: you've got Stefan Diggs, Stalton Kin Kids gave Davis, you know,
- 38:48Speaker 3: he sort of tends to come to life this time
- 38:49Speaker 3: of the year, you know, as well as James Cook
- 38:51Speaker 3: in the Running Game. So by all means, this is
- 38:53Speaker 3: not going to be easy. As you say, every team
- 38:56Speaker 3: starts oh to oh in the playoffs. But if you
- 38:58Speaker 3: look at the odds makers making us one hundred and
- 39:00Speaker 3: twenty five to one to win the Super Rowl the
- 39:02Speaker 3: next and lines Box at sixty six to one, so
- 39:05Speaker 3: clearly the bookies aren't given us much chance. But over
- 39:08Speaker 3: the past years, you know what a suited us better,
- 39:11Speaker 3: being the underdog or being the favorites, you know, exactly.
- 39:13Speaker 3: So if we're able to force Josh Allen into a
- 39:17Speaker 3: couple of turnovers early, you know we've seen the occasions
- 39:20Speaker 3: he's prone to be a bit reckless. Just as Jimmy said,
- 39:22Speaker 3: you know, you can get either the version that's turned
- 39:24Speaker 3: the ball over left right center, or you can get
- 39:26Speaker 3: the one that's sort of run running down hell at you.
- 39:29Speaker 3: But absolutely anything can happen, you know, past what being
- 39:32Speaker 3: Really that isn't going to help us either. But as
- 39:35Speaker 3: I said, you know it's Nax's man up. But yeah,
- 39:37Speaker 3: you know that they're probably sitting there confident. I was
- 39:39Speaker 3: reading tweets you know Less you know Less failed earlier
- 39:42Speaker 3: on and it just seems that everybody is ruling us
- 39:44Speaker 3: out already, and that's what we want to see. So
- 39:47Speaker 3: I'm hopeful. You know, I'm a bit passimistic, but at
- 39:49Speaker 3: the same time, I'm very hopeful with.
- 39:51Speaker 2: Those dogs on Patty Power Dave when it's jump Bond
- 39:53Speaker 2: and stick at Cheeky tenor on the Steeters to win
- 39:55Speaker 2: the Super Bowl this year.
- 39:56Speaker 1: You'll be there, see what happens, see what happen exactly. Yeah,
- 39:59Speaker 1: let's let's put it on the line right now. Look,
- 40:05Speaker 1: I have seen their Super Bowl Challenge where you make
- 40:09Speaker 1: your picks, and you know what, this year, I am
- 40:11Speaker 1: just I'm gonna lie though. I think the Steelers will
- 40:15Speaker 1: put this team close, closer than people think on Sunday.
- 40:18Speaker 1: I just don't know how batter how much I'd love
- 40:21Speaker 1: to sit here and say I think they'll win. I
- 40:22Speaker 1: think it's gonna be very very difficult one in the Buffalo,
- 40:24Speaker 1: But I think two keys have to happen. You need
- 40:28Speaker 1: to have a run game on its edge this Sunday,
- 40:31Speaker 1: and the defense needs to come up. We need to
- 40:33Speaker 1: see somebody step in the TV issues and I think
- 40:36Speaker 1: if that happens, you've got a serious chance. So in
- 40:39Speaker 1: terms of the podcast, as a fan, I say, the
- 40:42Speaker 1: Steelers win are really boring. Defensive start game nine to six.
- 40:46Speaker 1: I just this is the first time this season where
- 40:47Speaker 1: I'm like, oh, I just feel like, I mean, yeah,
- 40:51Speaker 1: it would be a hell of a defense job. When
- 40:52Speaker 1: I see your fast started, I just feel like this
- 40:54Speaker 1: is gonna be a very, very difficult challenge. And I
- 40:56Speaker 1: do agree with you guys that you almost look at
- 40:59Speaker 1: maybe Cleve different teams in that AFC bracket, thinking God,
- 41:04Speaker 1: that could have been a better challenge. But the reality
- 41:05Speaker 1: is to be the best, you've got to beat the best. Yes,
- 41:08Speaker 1: you're playing Bubble Buffalo with a hard time in the
- 41:11Speaker 1: season where they're hot, but if they can beat Buffalo,
- 41:14Speaker 1: the sky's a live. It loads, it really really is. Jimmy,
- 41:18Speaker 1: give me some positive.
- 41:19Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean before we got the news, I mean,
- 41:23Speaker 7: obviously when we saw TJ limping off the field against Baltimore,
- 41:26Speaker 7: we knew he wasn't gonna be ready if and when
- 41:27Speaker 7: we made this game, So that makes things a million
- 41:30Speaker 7: times harder than it already was gonna be.
- 41:32Speaker 2: I mean, it's like I said, I mean, if if
- 41:34Speaker 2: the good version of Josh Allen shows up on Sunday,
- 41:37Speaker 2: we're toast. And that's just been honest because you look
- 41:40Speaker 2: at our you look at our Our safeties are depleted,
- 41:44Speaker 2: Our inside linebackers are depleted. Joey Porter what he's been
- 41:47Speaker 2: a lockdown corner you would like to see he's gonna be.
- 41:50Speaker 2: He's gonna be trailing Stephan Diggs all over the field
- 41:52Speaker 2: on Sunday. I just think Stephan's a wildly veteran he has,
- 41:56Speaker 2: he has the edge that he's gonna have to step
- 41:57Speaker 2: on Joey look on prayer for a win. I'm gonna
- 42:01Speaker 2: say we might, we might do it, but I'm not.
- 42:03Speaker 2: I'm not going to be as both my predictions as
- 42:05Speaker 2: I have been in the past. I don't want to
- 42:08Speaker 2: root against the Steelers, but you know we'll see fingers cross, lads.
- 42:14Speaker 1: I think the one thing we share is optimism, and
- 42:17Speaker 1: I think until we see otherwise, we believe that this
- 42:19Speaker 1: team can go and do it. I was very impressed
- 42:22Speaker 1: with how the defense held itself last week. Let's see
- 42:25Speaker 1: what happens this is that. Remember you give all these
- 42:28Speaker 1: bull predictions. This is your moment this season. But Hensley,
- 42:31Speaker 1: hopefully for not the last time, hopefully we're both for
- 42:33Speaker 1: a number three weeks. Give us your pick, man, Who've
- 42:36Speaker 1: you got?
- 42:37Speaker 3: Do you know what it's It's really reluctant, you know,
- 42:40Speaker 3: to give a pick in this sort of situation, because
- 42:44Speaker 3: we know how good the bills are. I mean, it
- 42:46Speaker 3: would be sort of naive for us to walk in
- 42:49Speaker 3: and think, you know, we're gonna come out with a
- 42:50Speaker 3: win easily. And if we can sort of if we
- 42:55Speaker 3: can sort of put asn't say you know what, As
- 42:57Speaker 3: I said in the in the previous segment there, I
- 42:59Speaker 3: honestly believe that if we can force them into a
- 43:02Speaker 3: couple of Earnie turnovers, you never know what will happen.
- 43:04Speaker 3: You know, if you sort of get them unsettled early,
- 43:08Speaker 3: and if we can offensively show up in the first quarter,
- 43:11Speaker 3: in the second quarter, if we can sort of try
- 43:13Speaker 3: and build a lead, you never know what will happen.
- 43:15Speaker 3: But I'm a bit like Jimmy, I'm on the fence
- 43:17Speaker 3: for this one, and I'm gonna it's between ahead and
- 43:20Speaker 3: my heart at this rate, and you know what, I
- 43:22Speaker 3: may as well go with my heart on this occasion.
- 43:24Speaker 3: I'm gonna go Steelers fourteen bills thirteen. I'm not gonna
- 43:28Speaker 3: say and bring it to the back on this occasion
- 43:30Speaker 3: because I don't want anybody.
- 43:34Speaker 2: I wouldn't give a score production day. So you're a
- 43:36Speaker 2: braver man, You're a braverhal deny on them.
- 43:40Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 43:40Speaker 1: I just I have to do it.
- 43:42Speaker 3: I have to do it. You know it's it could
- 43:44Speaker 3: be the last podcast of the season. I would feel
- 43:46Speaker 3: bad if it didn't give a prediction, but I'm gonna
- 43:49Speaker 3: do it.
- 43:50Speaker 1: As there's one thing guaranteed, it will not be the
- 43:53Speaker 1: last podcast of the season. No matter what happens, We'll
- 43:55Speaker 1: definitely have at least one more. No, look, we'll be
- 43:58Speaker 1: back in no matter what. Great to see you guys
- 44:01Speaker 1: on the hype video last week, Share in the Stage
- 44:03Speaker 1: with with Royal Day. I see it, loved it lads.
- 44:07Speaker 1: Hopefully I'm gonna make an appearance on it this week.
- 44:09Speaker 1: We'll see what happens. But not do you know what?
- 44:11Speaker 1: Actually love seeing all the like the the Irish tweets.
- 44:15Speaker 1: I'm seeing friends that you know might not have the
- 44:18Speaker 1: Steelers as their first team, but they're they're jumping a board,
- 44:21Speaker 1: jumping on the wagon ahead of the playoff push. So
- 44:23Speaker 1: it's Ireland's team. Let's see what happens and certainly it's
- 44:26Speaker 1: going to be a huge game this Sunday. The game
- 44:29Speaker 1: is at six o'clock. It's on Sky Sports NFL in
- 44:31Speaker 1: Ireland and also in the UK. If you're listening as
- 44:33Speaker 1: well on the Island of Ireland OTB Sports Radio just
- 44:36Speaker 1: done with the app. You can listen to Wolfe and
- 44:39Speaker 1: the entire team there as well. And we will be
- 44:41Speaker 1: back probably in the middle of next week, no matter
- 44:44Speaker 1: what happens after we get Super wild Card weekend over.
- 44:48Speaker 1: But for now, Michael, Jimmy Dave Irish Sediars podcast. Get
- 44:51Speaker 1: involved hashtag Steeters Ireland at Steelers Ireland on x on
- 44:56Speaker 1: the Instagram and we'll chat to you. Assume we made
- 44:58Speaker 1: a big here we go this this week.
- 45:00Speaker 5: Here we go, Here we go, and go
