- 1:53[SPEAKER_01]: they lose another one, they should have won this time a heart breaking loss to the Los Angeles Chargers against none other than quarterback Justin Herbert, which a lot of dolphins fans wanted to draft in the 2020 draft.
- 2:09[SPEAKER_01]: The loss of the chargers, on a last minute field called after Justin Herbert inexplicably escaped, moved the ball from his right hand to the left hand.
- 2:20[SPEAKER_01]: So a thermal couldn't happen.
- 2:22[SPEAKER_01]: Jaylin Phillips was pressuring him.
- 2:24[SPEAKER_01]: He captured him and could not bring him down.
- 2:28[SPEAKER_01]: And all Justin Herbert had to do was throw a seven yard route to Ladd McConkey, which became a 43-yard dime.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_01]: That play, that single breakdown encapsulated everything wrong with this Dolphins team.
- 2:47[SPEAKER_01]: Miami had a clear advantage, yet they couldn't capitalize.
- 2:51[SPEAKER_01]: The charges were missing.
- 2:53[SPEAKER_01]: Three starting offensive linemen, arguably you could say Quentin Johnson, their potential wide receiver one.
- 3:01[SPEAKER_01]: and played with third and fourth string running backs.
- 3:05[SPEAKER_01]: You'd think the dolphins' defense would feast.
- 3:10[SPEAKER_01]: They'd be able to get a ton of pressure.
- 3:11[SPEAKER_01]: They'd be able to sack Justin Herbert a couple of times.
- 3:16[SPEAKER_01]: Justin Herbert was only pressured 30% of the time, which was the fourth worst in the league.
- 3:24[SPEAKER_01]: in week six, and the dolphins still couldn't close.
- 3:29[SPEAKER_01]: Let's start with this defense because this loss begins and ends there.
- 3:35[SPEAKER_01]: Joining me is my co-host Eric, what a gay Eric.
- 3:37[SPEAKER_01]: This dolphin's defense.
- 3:42[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I feel like that says it all without saying anything at all.
- 3:48[SPEAKER_00]: I don't,
- 3:51[SPEAKER_00]: I don't even know where to start with the defense, schematically, you just can't get any pressure.
- 3:57[SPEAKER_00]: You know, there's no, you've got the fourth word success right when sending four.
- 4:04[SPEAKER_00]: Jalen Phillips is, you know, I understand that he's coming back from injury, but you know, a guy at his size and I know just in Herbert's big guy, but Phillips is 66 to 60 himself.
- 4:16[SPEAKER_00]: He's got to be able to get Jalen Phillips down.
- 4:19[SPEAKER_00]: Um, you're facing a bunch of backups and the chargers offensive line and you still can't get home.
- 4:26[SPEAKER_00]: You look, just disorganized, hesitant.
- 4:31[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, Anthony weaver plays with a very wide open scheme and guys have a lot of freedom, but
- 4:42[SPEAKER_00]: It just feels like they're kind of the blind leading the blind right now.
- 4:47[SPEAKER_00]: There's not a lot of discipline, not a lot of leadership.
- 4:49[SPEAKER_00]: It's it's super chaotic, you know, and and coach had a comment about this, you know, with you can't have a player that defensive no one's holding each other accountable.
- 5:03[SPEAKER_00]: Otherwise, it just ends up with a bunch of freelancing and you're trying to stop.
- 5:08[SPEAKER_00]: You know, and you're trying to stop an offense from missing half of its charges.
- 5:11[SPEAKER_00]: It's not effective.
- 5:13[SPEAKER_00]: Herbert's getting the ball out quickly about two and a half seconds per throw almost like to a. Yeah, almost exactly almost like to a charges are using motion on 72% of their plays almost like the dolphin.
- 5:29[SPEAKER_00]: Charges are running all over the dolphins.
- 5:32[SPEAKER_00]: Much like the dolphins would like to do, much like to the dolphins off on this credit, they did do in this ball game, and we'll talk about that a little bit later.
- 5:42[SPEAKER_00]: But you know, it just, I have to go back to this being a coaching issue on the defensive side of the football.
- 5:53[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think we have gone past the excuses that close you and I have made for Anthony,
- 6:03[SPEAKER_01]: It's a week six, you had all training camp to do this.
- 6:07[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, you got three rookies on the defensive line.
- 6:10[SPEAKER_01]: Two out of three of them are known to be Rumstopvers, one one a national championship, all right.
- 6:15[SPEAKER_01]: Like these guys know what they're doing, but they're missing their gaps.
- 6:20[SPEAKER_01]: You just paid Zack Sealer who was playing like arguably much better than at a proble level a potential slim all pro chance.
- 6:33[SPEAKER_01]: Bradley Chub who you treated a first round pick for in 2022 Okay, he's filling up the stat sheet, but he's not making game changing plays What the heck is he doing?
- 6:45[SPEAKER_01]: Jay and the Philips coming back, you know, from his injury, but and I said this too on on Twitter He is the best player at almost Making a play.
- 6:58[SPEAKER_01]: He is the best player at getting their but not making the play
- 7:03[SPEAKER_01]: jail of wolves has not improved like that hasn't done anything.
- 7:08[SPEAKER_01]: This dolphin secondary, the best player in this dolphin secondary is Mink of Fitzpatrick, a guy who was traded in the middle of the in the middle of training camp.
- 7:19[SPEAKER_01]: Rasool Douglas was cut by the buffalo bills and picked up two weeks before the second preseason game or the first preseason game.
- 7:29[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sorry.
- 7:31[SPEAKER_01]: How does this happen?
- 7:32[SPEAKER_01]: Like, how inexplicably wrong does Anthony weaver bin to lead this defense like this?
- 7:44[SPEAKER_01]: We'll talk about two-a-end McDaniels and the offense is a little bit, but holy crap.
- 7:49[SPEAKER_01]: This defense is giving up almost 30 points per game.
- 7:54[SPEAKER_01]: You can win with that unless your offense is completely spectacular.
- 7:59[SPEAKER_01]: Your offensive line is healthy and you're scoring at least 30-35 points again.
- 8:06[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and we were when he was the Houston defense coordinator had the 30th ranked difference.
- 8:13[SPEAKER_01]: He had the 30th ranked defense, 28th ranked run defense and guess what?
- 8:18[SPEAKER_01]: The same shit is happening in mine.
- 8:21[SPEAKER_01]: Mike and McDaniel brought Anthony we were over here to Miami, thinking that he could run that
- 8:33[SPEAKER_01]: Mike McDonald could run that Dean peas and wig more and deal could run That was not Anthony Weaver.
- 8:42[SPEAKER_01]: That was a system that was already in place Anthony Weaver was what the line-backer coach or the defensive line coach In Baltimore you can say he was a culture guy.
- 8:54[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, if he's a culture guy Why are defenders freelancing?
- 8:59[SPEAKER_01]: You're talking about this dolphin's defense.
- 9:02[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, they might have the culture guys.
- 9:04[SPEAKER_01]: They have the right guys.
- 9:06[SPEAKER_01]: But where's this schematic responsibility?
- 9:08[SPEAKER_01]: Are you putting the players in the correct position to win?
- 9:12[SPEAKER_01]: It is not happening, guys.
- 9:13[SPEAKER_01]: Especially on run downs.
- 9:15[SPEAKER_01]: These guys are not hitting their gaps.
- 9:17[SPEAKER_01]: They're not playing their assignments correctly.
- 9:19[SPEAKER_01]: On the run, which I believe it was to a kimanevodal on the second to last touchdown, but that might have set up the second to last touchdown.
- 9:32[SPEAKER_01]: The chargers fake they were going to run inside.
- 9:35[SPEAKER_01]: They ran an outside zone play out of a information.
- 9:41[SPEAKER_01]: It was either outside zone or a stretch run plate.
- 9:45[SPEAKER_01]: You had the defensive line and all squeezed up pressed along there.
- 9:50[SPEAKER_01]: The linebackers hit the wrong gaps, even when trying to go inside.
- 9:58[SPEAKER_01]: didn't even try to get inside leverage to do that.
- 10:02[SPEAKER_01]: He got outside leverage and a whole open up.
- 10:06[SPEAKER_01]: This run defense can't do jack.
- 10:10[SPEAKER_01]: And in the passing game, they're supposed to be really good in zone.
- 10:14[SPEAKER_01]: They're a complete and utter shit.
- 10:17[SPEAKER_01]: They are a complete and utter shit.
- 10:20[SPEAKER_01]: They are the 30th ranked zone defense and they're supposed to be good at that.
- 10:27[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you know, I can't, I can't really tell you one particular thing that they are very good at and this is where, you know, co-sherick.
- 10:35[SPEAKER_00]: We're consistent in that being bad.
- 10:37[SPEAKER_00]: They are.
- 10:37[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, you know, being bad.
- 10:39[SPEAKER_01]: That's what they're almost there.
- 10:41[SPEAKER_01]: They're almost there to make a play, but then some boneheaded thing.
- 10:47[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sorry, but this is week six of the second year in this defense.
- 10:58[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it hasn't gotten better and you can point to execution by the players, but as a certain point, I mean, you're expecting me to believe that it's a coincidence that Zack Sealer, Bradley Chub, Jalen Phillips, Jordan Brooks, all of these guys have just regressed this year, like all of these guys at the same time.
- 11:22[SPEAKER_00]: No, at a certain point, it's, it's, it's
- 11:26[SPEAKER_00]: The number one, I do think it is Anthony, we were not being able to put these guys in position to make plays.
- 11:34[SPEAKER_00]: Number two, there is an, you know, an element of execution because there is on every play and every breakdown.
- 11:41[SPEAKER_00]: But number three, and I think that this is really something that's been kind of in our faces, all season long, even back before the preseason.
- 11:55[SPEAKER_00]: you know, all this talk about changing the culture, they were really just trying to convince themselves.
- 12:00[SPEAKER_00]: They never believed any of it.
- 12:02[SPEAKER_00]: And it's evident, these guys do not play as a unit.
- 12:07[SPEAKER_00]: You have 11 individuals out there on the field, on both sides of the football.
- 12:12[SPEAKER_00]: And that's the way this team looks right now.
- 12:15[SPEAKER_00]: And that's why you have this fight pockets of decent play here and there, ultimately they end up losing these games because in the crucial moments, when you need all 11 guys
- 12:32[SPEAKER_00]: they're not.
- 12:34[SPEAKER_00]: And it's, and it's just been that simple all season long.
- 12:38[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that that's the ultimate failure of the coaching staff even beyond the, the exes and knows of it, which that certainly hasn't been good to this point in the season.
- 12:49[SPEAKER_00]: But you've got a unit full of individuals.
- 12:54[SPEAKER_00]: There is no cohesion on any side of the ball among any position group with this, with this ball
- 13:02[SPEAKER_01]: Now, I'm going to play Dell's advocate here a little bit.
- 13:07[SPEAKER_01]: If I'm Anthony Weaver, I'm saying, I don't have the right players schematically.
- 13:12[SPEAKER_01]: Chris Greer is the guy who built this roster initially before it came here.
- 13:18[SPEAKER_01]: I'm working with three out of the four defensive linemen that I never interacted with, never drafted things like that, right?
- 13:30[SPEAKER_01]: Right, the defensive backs were broad and previously, one, but from a previous draft class was then traded in.
- 13:41[SPEAKER_01]: I still trying to run the same scheme, but with different players, I had Kair Kogu get out because of an injury.
- 13:49[SPEAKER_01]: Jalen, you know, Jalen Phillips and Bradley Chopper out last year.
- 13:52[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't have to work with them.
- 13:54[SPEAKER_01]: Now, somehow I do with these are brand new players for me.
- 13:57[SPEAKER_01]: I have three rookies on the defense subline.
- 14:00[SPEAKER_01]: Jordan Brooks, he's there.
- 14:03[SPEAKER_01]: He's potentially the only holdover.
- 14:05[SPEAKER_01]: Doesn't necessarily communicate.
- 14:07[SPEAKER_01]: He's not the green dot guy.
- 14:09[SPEAKER_01]: This is a brand new defense I'm working with.
- 14:11[SPEAKER_01]: Chris, this is brand new defense I'm working with.
- 14:14[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, there's going to be, you know,
- 14:19[SPEAKER_01]: You're the one who gave me the grocery list, and you're expecting me to cook a five course meal Michelin star meal with this.
- 14:29[SPEAKER_01]: Can't happen.
- 14:31[SPEAKER_01]: What do you say to that?
- 14:33[SPEAKER_00]: I, I number one, I don't buy it.
- 14:35[SPEAKER_00]: Number two, you know, buy them.
- 14:38[SPEAKER_01]: No, because because it can be valid though.
- 14:43[SPEAKER_00]: I want to send to an extent, sure, but you look at like the edge rusher's, okay, you didn't have Bradley Chub and Jalen Phillips on the field last season.
- 14:52[SPEAKER_00]: But were these guys not in the film room, were they not, were they not working with any aspect of the defense whatsoever?
- 15:03[SPEAKER_01]: I have a second there's been better than the minutes for us than not that good that you gave me.
- 15:08[SPEAKER_01]: So I have to play a soft zone.
- 15:10[SPEAKER_01]: I have to protect these guys, which is why your yard you're being made.
- 15:14[SPEAKER_01]: So what do you want me to do at a certain point?
- 15:17[SPEAKER_00]: You just take the risk.
- 15:18[SPEAKER_00]: You're one in five, what's at a certain point.
- 15:21[SPEAKER_00]: You take the risk and try to lean into your strengths.
- 15:23[SPEAKER_01]: OK, but Chris, if I have a lot to lose, I could be a potential head coach next season.
- 15:28[SPEAKER_01]: I got a lot to do with it.
- 15:30[SPEAKER_00]: It was not the way this defense is performing right now.
- 15:36[SPEAKER_01]: No, no, I, I, I, I, I, I, I. Dolphin defense.
- 15:44[SPEAKER_01]: They were bottom five in EPA or a lot.
- 15:47[SPEAKER_01]: Like they were really bad.
- 15:48[SPEAKER_01]: Like they could not stop anything that came their way.
- 15:54[SPEAKER_01]: Like they were bottom five in EPA a lot, which was pretty good for their charge because they could pass the ball, how did they want it?
- 16:01[SPEAKER_01]: They could run the ball, how did they want it?
- 16:05[SPEAKER_01]: They were also 9% less than the league average in success rate, given up.
- 16:13[SPEAKER_01]: And the crazy thing is the dolphins allow the chargers to convert four out of six, third and longs.
- 16:22[SPEAKER_01]: We're talking about seven plus yards people.
- 16:25[SPEAKER_01]: And the craziest thing, the chargers are not even that good in the red zone, just 25% a quarter red zone touch down efficiency.
- 16:36[SPEAKER_01]: Week six in the red zone, the chargers were 67%.
- 16:43[SPEAKER_01]: 67% compared to 25%, but numbers aren't saving you either, Anthony.
- 16:51[SPEAKER_01]: The numbers aren't saving you, Anthony.
- 16:53[SPEAKER_01]: Your defense is collapsing in situational moments.
- 16:56[SPEAKER_01]: They can't get off the field on third down.
- 16:58[SPEAKER_01]: Why not?
- 16:59[SPEAKER_01]: You're the head coach.
- 17:00[SPEAKER_01]: You're supposed to have the calls.
- 17:01[SPEAKER_01]: Are you not in the film room?
- 17:05[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you know, the worst part is it feels like at least in the case of the run defense.
- 17:11[SPEAKER_00]: we kind of got a glimpse of this at the end of last season.
- 17:16[SPEAKER_00]: It started in Green Bay when the packers just ran all over the dolphins.
- 17:24[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, the run defense down the stretch last year kind of faded, and we've just seen a continuation of that into 2025, and that's been the really disappointing part of this to me
- 17:41[SPEAKER_00]: You kind of had an inkling that this might be coming if you didn't change something.
- 17:46[SPEAKER_00]: And either you don't have the players to stop it, which if that's the case, Anthony Weaver looks really silly right now for all of his abusive praise of Kenneth Grant in the off season.
- 18:05[SPEAKER_00]: We all look, we all do to be fair.
- 18:08[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 18:10[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 18:10[SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely.
- 18:12[SPEAKER_01]: Um, we touted this past for us in this defensive line of being all world potential top 10 defensive line and they can't even get a push.
- 18:24[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and I'm still incredulous about it.
- 18:27[SPEAKER_00]: I still believe that if they were wearing a different uniform,
- 18:34[SPEAKER_00]: in a different unit that they might look like that, and maybe that's me being crazy, but I, it's, it's just, I still can't wrap my head around these guys just suddenly all dropping off at the same time and it, you know,
- 18:54[SPEAKER_00]: It just seems a little too crazy to me, that that's the case, that that's the coincidence.
- 19:00[SPEAKER_01]: All right, before we get a little bit further into this dolphins offensive team, that Charter's offense, that execution.
- 19:09[SPEAKER_01]: It was an all world.
- 19:11[SPEAKER_01]: They didn't dominate anywhere, but they were timely when it mattered specifically in third-down situations.
- 19:18[SPEAKER_01]: just overall in the running game, they were the 13th best in rush success rate.
- 19:24[SPEAKER_01]: They had the fourth best yards per carry, namely, kimmani, but all, 5.6 yards per carry.
- 19:30[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, that is like almost 100% success rate on every single down on first, second, and third down.
- 19:38[SPEAKER_01]: If you just need 10 yards on first down, if you need five yards on second,
- 19:44[SPEAKER_01]: and Ford.
- 19:45[SPEAKER_01]: That's like 100% success right there.
- 19:48[SPEAKER_01]: First down per rush they had 28% of their runs goal for a first down 13th investment middle of the pack.
- 19:56[SPEAKER_01]: Command of a doll.
- 19:58[SPEAKER_01]: He had 3.4 yards per rush after a contact.
- 20:06[SPEAKER_01]: After someone got a touch on him, he averaged an extra 3 yards.
- 20:11[SPEAKER_01]: That was a third best this week.
- 20:14[SPEAKER_01]: You're telling me, good tacklers, if it's an axiower, Kenneth Grant, Jordan Brooks, or Soul Douglas, make a Fitzpatrick.
- 20:22[SPEAKER_01]: Your guys, who you paid, who are supposed to be good, on this defense, giving up three extra yards per rush because they could attack on them.
- 20:34[SPEAKER_00]: You know, and I'd be really curious to see what the splits look like first half, first a second half.
- 20:39[SPEAKER_00]: Because all of this is including a first three or four drives for the charters where the dolphins actually held up decently in the run game.
- 20:47[SPEAKER_00]: Um, but I mean, after maybe midway into the second quarter.
- 20:54[SPEAKER_00]: The chargers' run game is just doing anything that they wanted to do to the back of the team.
- 20:59[SPEAKER_01]: They're run done early.
- 21:00[SPEAKER_01]: Donald's kept Justin Herbert in favourable second and medium, third and short situations.
- 21:05[SPEAKER_01]: And even when they couldn't get anything done on first and second down, those runs kinda kept Miami on their toes because it neutralized a lot of the blitz looks.
- 21:16[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, Justin Herbert was able to get the ball out in less than two and a half seconds.
- 21:20[SPEAKER_01]: And the charges receivers were running everywhere.
- 21:24[SPEAKER_01]: They had a lot of space.
- 21:25[SPEAKER_01]: And this is the thing that gets me.
- 21:27[SPEAKER_01]: Your past rush is supposed to be the best unit on your team and your secondary or your worst.
- 21:33[SPEAKER_01]: But your secondary right now looks much better than your passwords because your passwords can't get home.
- 21:38[SPEAKER_01]: You're telling me your passwords is your strongest because you need to make up for your secondary's weakness.
- 21:43[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe try being a bit more aggressive with your secondary and have them press a little bit more.
- 21:48[SPEAKER_01]: So that way, you don't get beat on those short passes.
- 21:52[SPEAKER_01]: Because the dolphins off defense, they are the 31st ranked defense in short pass EPA.
- 22:00[SPEAKER_01]: Anyone can throw short on them and gain your art and move the change.
- 22:04[SPEAKER_01]: They are getting killed by paper cuts like crazy.
- 22:08[SPEAKER_01]: And because of that,
- 22:09[SPEAKER_01]: This offensive structure, it simplifies just in Herbert's reads and it slowed down the past rush big time to even though he got the ball out in less than two and a half seconds.
- 22:24[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, and again, it's been that same story every week with the short passing game and this dolphin's defense because of the fact that, you know, you feel like you have to get depth in the secondary because you want to protect these guys and you're just leaving yourself vulnerable to a lot of those short completions.
- 22:47[SPEAKER_00]: And you know, even then you're not getting the tackling in the backs of in that you need if you're going to play that kind of defense, you know, I'm looking at it wasn't just Rayland Phillips on that last played a lad Maconkey was Dante trader wiffing on lad Maconkey when he could have gotten in the position to make the apple he just wished.
- 23:13[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 23:14[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it's, it's really inexcusable basic stuff in this defense that they're not executing and it's, it's frustrating to see it on tape weekend and we go.
- 23:32[SPEAKER_01]: Alright, we are going to move away from the defense and for those of you who are listening.
- 23:38[SPEAKER_01]: We will head to break shortly for those who are listening and watching a YouTube.
- 23:44[SPEAKER_01]: You won't see that break.
- 23:48[SPEAKER_01]: Alright, and we are back from break.
- 23:54[SPEAKER_01]: This dolphins offense was such a roller coaster man.
- 23:58[SPEAKER_01]: We're always talking about other quarterbacks who throw interceptions and still win because the rest of the team can make up the mistake.
- 24:09[SPEAKER_01]: For the longest for Tula Tung-Wai Lola, any little mistake is the biggest thing in the world and the reason why the dolphins lost.
- 24:19[SPEAKER_01]: Look, he threw three interceptions on Sunday, right?
- 24:25[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, he still brought them back to take the lead with 45 seconds left.
- 24:31[SPEAKER_01]: A lot of teams can win with 45 seconds left and their defense can hold it down for three or four down, right.
- 24:38[SPEAKER_01]: But let's break down these interceptions, right?
- 24:40[SPEAKER_01]: The first one, Jalen model kind of double clutched that timing was off and that was just bad.
- 24:48[SPEAKER_01]: That was just bad.
- 24:50[SPEAKER_01]: That wasn't on two of that was on Jalen model, right there.
- 24:56[SPEAKER_01]: I would say it's a force throw to bat bracket coverage.
- 24:59[SPEAKER_01]: Some people are saying it was Devon Haines fault, but this guy is a pass catching run back.
- 25:05[SPEAKER_01]: He's not a liar.
- 25:06[SPEAKER_01]: See, for you, you can't really expect that out of him.
- 25:09[SPEAKER_01]: It flipped the field position, let's you three chargers points, all right?
- 25:14[SPEAKER_01]: Same thing.
- 25:16[SPEAKER_01]: I think two drives later for the Dolphins, they couldn't get points on the board because Riley Pratterson missed a 57-yard fuel-gold, meanwhile, other fuel-gold kickers.
- 25:26[SPEAKER_01]: In the NFL, our drilling 61-6263 yards.
- 25:32[SPEAKER_01]: The final third interception was just a desperation heave, it was just completely irrelevant with five seconds left.
- 25:40[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, two is not Aaron Rogers.
- 25:43[SPEAKER_01]: I think we can all see.
- 25:45[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he's not throwing a hill Mary down to Randall Cobb or Donald Driver and making a stud fantastically.
- 25:53[SPEAKER_01]: We know who to it is.
- 25:56[SPEAKER_01]: Despite all of that, you know, him and the offense, they led up two score come back late showing that toughness and battling through that adversity we haven't seen in
- 26:12[SPEAKER_01]: is, I guess, me, P.A.
- 26:13[SPEAKER_01]: positive and they had some confidence even after the turnovers and them being down by 13 points.
- 26:22[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, that first order, that second half fourth quarter game plan that Mike McDaniel led.
- 26:30[SPEAKER_01]: It was pretty freaking impressive, even Jim Harbus said it himself.
- 26:35[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, no, I mean, they definitely executed really well down the tracks with this ball game.
- 26:44[SPEAKER_00]: I still think, over all this season and I think that it's a, and I guess this is just getting outside of the fourth quarter in that game because there's really not much you can, you can nitpick it to about as far as that final drive, of course, going eight for eight was 11 for 12 on the two drives with 99.
- 27:11[SPEAKER_00]: No, no, you know, there's nothing you can really get at there as far as negatives for to it.
- 27:18[SPEAKER_00]: And the run game was really effective just about all game long, as well for Mike Nathaniel, using a lot of Devon HN, really effectively in this game career, not career high, season high in Russian yards, eight yards per carry on the ground.
- 27:41[SPEAKER_00]: Um, but I, I go back to this offense here, and it just, I think they, they failed to put together a complete game, and that's, that's what it feels like we're kind of waiting for with them.
- 27:58[SPEAKER_00]: Um, you might have that change in Cleveland, but who knows?
- 28:03[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, well, no Cleveland's defense is good.
- 28:06[SPEAKER_01]: Joe, those guys are monsters.
- 28:07[SPEAKER_01]: Rowan, imagine that's the line.
- 28:09[SPEAKER_01]: That's the overjoyous out on I had to call it.
- 28:12[SPEAKER_00]: He came inside over saw, and that's exactly what I'm thinking.
- 28:16[SPEAKER_00]: There's wrap it up.
- 28:18[SPEAKER_00]: You know, that's scary to me, but to your point, it was a really well executed drive by Tua,
- 28:30[SPEAKER_00]: kind of showcases this offense at its best.
- 28:34[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, you know, you had the interception where model kind of just the ball pops in and out of his hands, the final throw, whatever you weren't going to get a Miami miracle.
- 28:45[SPEAKER_00]: So really kind of a relevant, I think the second interception was was definitely the worst of of the
- 29:00[SPEAKER_01]: People were arguing that that was a very costly turnover, but in the end, at that game, 45 seconds left here up.
- 29:11[SPEAKER_01]: If you think about it, if Maliko Washington, if that throw to Maliko Washington, and he didn't get out of bounds, the clock would still be running, and maybe it's like 20-ish seconds left.
- 29:23[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and then it's you allow a 40 yard a kick return where the charges are at the 40 45 yard line and it's like, well, there it is, it's just
- 29:35[SPEAKER_01]: Mistake after mistake after mistake and it's the little things that really do matter at the end of the day.
- 29:41[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, this tough one's run game was good.
- 29:44[SPEAKER_01]: Go on.
- 29:45[SPEAKER_01]: I fell in the arch for Kerry.
- 29:47[SPEAKER_01]: They had the third pass rush success rate 50% was pretty good 33% first down 33% of rush is one for a first down 8th best that week and
- 30:01[SPEAKER_01]: per rush after contact.
- 30:03[SPEAKER_01]: Fest in the NFL, 4.19 yards against this chargers defense.
- 30:11[SPEAKER_01]: This Dolphins offense wasn't the main majority issue.
- 30:14[SPEAKER_01]: It was efficient, it was dynamic, and they were physical in the running.
- 30:19[SPEAKER_01]: The turnovers might have erased their margin for error, but error, we're going back to this.
- 30:24[SPEAKER_01]: This Dolphins offense, with Mike McDaniel, two a talk about it, though, they don't have a lot of margins for error compared to other teams, and it's because of the quarterback and his lack of being able to be a physical guy.
- 30:37[SPEAKER_01]: due to his injury, history, and concussions, and then the type of offense might make Daniel runs that is based off of timings and motions.
- 30:45[SPEAKER_01]: It's too much, it's too much happening at a time.
- 30:51[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, that's the thing.
- 30:51[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, Mike McDonald talks about, you know, in a in a shanahan system, you have an answer to anything that the defense wants to do on any given play, but that's that's presupposing that your offense is capable of executing all of the things in theoretical, you see coaches offensive line breakdowns and reviews players are making the proper place, the players are making the proper place.
- 31:18[SPEAKER_01]: You can call and be in an innovative and do what you want, but if you don't know your players, if you don't know how to gain their strengths even better than what they are, why are you playing Jonas Avenue?
- 31:30[SPEAKER_01]: I love card.
- 31:31[SPEAKER_01]: And he's playing Greg Garden, right?
- 31:34[SPEAKER_01]: Tackle on, he's a better guy in the run game.
- 31:37[SPEAKER_01]: Why are we not giving him more help?
- 31:39[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I'm asking?
- 31:40[SPEAKER_01]: I'd end to the formation.
- 31:42[SPEAKER_00]: You know, more importantly, it's with a charge to get it with Austin.
- 31:45[SPEAKER_01]: Declos on the right side.
- 31:46[SPEAKER_01]: I look what happened.
- 31:48[SPEAKER_00]: What is, what is, what is butchberry doing with China?
- 31:53[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, butchberry did that with Patrick Paul and Patrick Paul has been great.
- 31:57[SPEAKER_01]: He's been fine.
- 31:58[SPEAKER_00]: No, he, he has, but I mean, I don't know.
- 32:02[SPEAKER_01]: What is it all to be a thing or is it a Jonah seven?
- 32:05[SPEAKER_00]: I think I mean, probably a little bit of both because I don't know any offensive line coach that would tell a guy in a past blocking set.
- 32:16[SPEAKER_00]: that your first movement is just to consistently lunge forward.
- 32:21[SPEAKER_00]: Liam, I can brush not like that.
- 32:23[SPEAKER_00]: I know, not even like the way you've heard those that.
- 32:27[SPEAKER_00]: But I'm just watching Georgia just consistently just throw his arms out at guys.
- 32:31[SPEAKER_01]: And it's, and then more so as blocking sets, we got.
- 32:36[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know, it doesn't, it doesn't, it doesn't make sense to me.
- 32:40[SPEAKER_01]: But I want to not only, yeah, this is not what the offensive line is supposed to look like either who's in charge of the players.
- 32:49[SPEAKER_01]: Chris Greer.
- 32:51[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 32:51[SPEAKER_01]: One Austin Jackson to a deal after that season.
- 32:54[SPEAKER_01]: He hasn't been healthy.
- 32:57[SPEAKER_01]: He's done with IR.
- 32:59[SPEAKER_01]: James Daniels, who was your prize for aid in signing, played six snaps.
- 33:09[SPEAKER_01]: You have a quarterback who got a good question at any time, and it's sometimes playing scared, yes.
- 33:17[SPEAKER_00]: And that's why he's not as accurate as he used to be because his footwork is not what it used to be.
- 33:22[SPEAKER_01]: The good thing is, the good thing is, because we're listing a lot of negatives.
- 33:28[SPEAKER_01]: The good thing is,
- 33:30[SPEAKER_01]: on a chain continues to look like a top five official back.
- 33:33[SPEAKER_01]: He's the stud in the NFL.
- 33:35[SPEAKER_01]: Absolute stuff.
- 33:37[SPEAKER_01]: Absolute stuff.
- 33:37[SPEAKER_01]: And since we're still on the top of the offensive line, Jonas Aventy, a tight third in heries, tied fourth in pressures in week six.
- 33:47[SPEAKER_01]: PFF's worst-draided offensive lineman in past blocking.
- 33:52[SPEAKER_01]: Colstrange was just cut by the Patriots and was brought to the team two weeks ago.
- 33:59[SPEAKER_01]: Tied first in Harry's Allowed, Tied fourth in pressures Allowed, and he's in this new scheme two weeks later.
- 34:08[SPEAKER_01]: Former first rompick.
- 34:11[SPEAKER_01]: I talked to the guy on our show, Cole Strange.
- 34:14[SPEAKER_01]: This is a fifth for him, but he's two weeks in and he's playing alongside Larry Borm.
- 34:21[SPEAKER_02]: Larry Borm.
- 34:23[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, what?
- 34:24[SPEAKER_00]: Amen.
- 34:25[SPEAKER_00]: This black needs respect Larry.
- 34:27[SPEAKER_01]: Respect Larry.
- 34:29[SPEAKER_00]: Some of those runs off the right tackle or back and you know, you're not wrong.
- 34:32[SPEAKER_01]: They've been much more efficient.
- 34:34[SPEAKER_01]: They have got in much more success running to the right side of the offensive line passing wise.
- 34:40[SPEAKER_01]: And the thing is, though, you can see it.
- 34:45[SPEAKER_01]: You can see it like the way this offense is designed for two.
- 34:49[SPEAKER_01]: It's a read is deep intermediate short can read the deep because you've got pressure in your face.
- 34:54[SPEAKER_01]: So now you have to run around and find his flat, you know, hot guy or the guy up in the flat.
- 35:00[SPEAKER_01]: And all defenders have to do your rush four or rush five.
- 35:03[SPEAKER_01]: Gather and move.
- 35:05[SPEAKER_01]: Make him throw short.
- 35:06[SPEAKER_01]: You just press everyone press everyone come close into it.
- 35:10[SPEAKER_01]: If the ball is bad at it or if it hits the receiver's hands,
- 35:13[SPEAKER_01]: There's a chance of defense back and make a play and get that interception.
- 35:16[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, sure, Tyreco is no longer on the offense that opens up some deep shots to Jalen model and Darren Waller, but majority of the time you're pressuring, you're not even blitzing that much and you're getting that much pressure.
- 35:32[SPEAKER_00]: Aside from the offensive line, and I know the offensive line is a big limiting factor here.
- 35:38[SPEAKER_00]: Why is it so easy for opposing defenses to take away what Mike McDaniel wants to do?
- 35:45[SPEAKER_01]: Are you, is that a rhetorical question?
- 35:48[SPEAKER_01]: Or is that a question?
- 35:51[SPEAKER_00]: Well, it's just, I mean, it consistently light.
- 35:59[SPEAKER_01]: The one thing that doesn't actual question, I can tell you what this Mike McDaniel often
- 36:04[SPEAKER_01]: You're running back if it's in a chain or only go to it.
- 36:07[SPEAKER_01]: It's either swing plaster or they're running to the flat.
- 36:10[SPEAKER_01]: Why receive her one?
- 36:11[SPEAKER_01]: Whoever it is, you're extra seed or he's running a deep, he's either running a post or he's running a deep, intermediate crossing inside.
- 36:20[SPEAKER_01]: You're tied in very rarely going up the seams.
- 36:24[SPEAKER_01]: He's staying around the middle of the field or going to the flat or crossing right across the formation.
- 36:34[SPEAKER_01]: should be playing a little bit more.
- 36:36[SPEAKER_01]: He's a mismatch.
- 36:38[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, come on.
- 36:39[SPEAKER_00]: But that's also a little bit terrible.
- 36:42[SPEAKER_00]: It just, it just frustrates me how every week or in really it's been for the last year and a half.
- 36:49[SPEAKER_00]: I hear a lot of, well, the defense is taking this away from us.
- 36:52[SPEAKER_01]: No, that's just an excuse.
- 36:55[SPEAKER_01]: Like, okay, okay, but is it not as terrible to kind of get back to those things as a terrible terrible excuse and the thing is they can't even do regular past that's because the offensive line came to this offense excuse me, but this offensive line is built to run the ball we saw last game we saw the previous game to
- 37:20[SPEAKER_01]: This offensive line is built to run the ball there.
- 37:23[SPEAKER_01]: This is not a pass for a offense.
- 37:25[SPEAKER_01]: And yet the thing is, because they're behind all the time, they're forced to be a pass for a offense.
- 37:30[SPEAKER_01]: You get them down seven.
- 37:32[SPEAKER_01]: They're passing the ball 90% in the time.
- 37:35[SPEAKER_01]: Around 14, they're passing the ball 90% in the time.
- 37:38[SPEAKER_01]: This offense needs to play with the lead.
- 37:41[SPEAKER_01]: This offense team needs to play with the lead.
- 37:44[SPEAKER_01]: Otherwise, they can't do everything.
- 37:49[SPEAKER_01]: second half come back they were down by two possessions what was the last time the dolphins came back behind two possessions like during that time period I was like holy crap things are changing things are changing maybe this is you know this is what happens and then by the big bottom that the numbers showed that the protection for the dolphins
- 38:18[SPEAKER_01]: It was like a finishing place by the Dolphins defense and even the situational execution of the offense.
- 38:27[SPEAKER_01]: I football is all about how you play situationally, and they are failing at it.
- 38:36[SPEAKER_01]: And this is just a perfect encapsulation of the Dolphins with Mike McDaniel's tenure.
- 38:43[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, does this guy last?
- 38:48[SPEAKER_01]: to Spain, at least.
- 38:51[SPEAKER_01]: Does this guy last until the commander's game?
- 38:57[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I kind of want to echo coaches' sentiments from yesterday on the post game, and I think the answer really is, I don't.
- 39:08[SPEAKER_00]: I think so, if for no other reason than I don't know, if there's a interim often that really changes things for you, at least in 2025, because you look at this stuff, I mean, at first it was Anthony Weaver was kind of seen as the guy in waiting, and now it's like, I don't really know about that at this point, I mean, I guess the answer would be Darrell Bevel, be your interim guy,
- 39:39[SPEAKER_00]: But that's the thing, there is no good options to say.
- 39:42[SPEAKER_01]: It may be slowing, but we saw it was almost just that we were supposed to be strapped out.
- 39:47[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 39:50[SPEAKER_00]: There's no good.
- 39:51[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, look what formal golfing is.
- 39:52[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I'd receive a coach and now current Tampa Bay Buck and there's offensive coordinator, Josh assertives doing with Baker Mayfield.
- 40:00[SPEAKER_01]: And that book and there's offense.
- 40:04[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 40:07[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, just take a look at that.
- 40:09[SPEAKER_01]: As soon as these coaches leave the dolphins, they do a well.
- 40:13[SPEAKER_01]: Ben Johnson, Dan Campbell, Josh Presard.
- 40:19[SPEAKER_01]: Brian Flores, Minnesota defense, still looks great.
- 40:25[SPEAKER_01]: Darren Rizzi is an assistant head coach, and especially team's coach, which Sean Payne and Denver.
- 40:32[SPEAKER_01]: Denver was a playoff team last year with Bowenix as a quarterback.
- 40:38[SPEAKER_01]: And the thing is with this coaching staff.
- 40:41[SPEAKER_01]: It's a player-led locker room.
- 40:46[SPEAKER_01]: And we're gonna talk about this narrative and what to us said, in his pressure.
- 40:53[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, Ethan was there.
- 40:54[SPEAKER_01]: If he was like this entire thing was completely taken out of context.
- 40:59[SPEAKER_01]: He's talking about player only meetings
- 41:06[SPEAKER_01]: Number one, you're doing extra film review outside of your normal thing.
- 41:10[SPEAKER_01]: Does that not ring any bells?
- 41:12[SPEAKER_01]: Like, hello, like, like, we are doing extra film review on the offense because some people don't understand it.
- 41:19[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it helps, or people are not getting it.
- 41:24[SPEAKER_01]: That's why they're showing up later, not showing up at all.
- 41:27[SPEAKER_01]: Does that not ring any alarms or any bills, you know, bells?
- 41:31[SPEAKER_01]: And then Mike McDonald comes out later today and he's like,
- 41:35[SPEAKER_01]: You know, to assure and have said that, and I'm sure he hated that response because that's to a calling out Mike with Daniel meanwhile.
- 41:44[SPEAKER_01]: We hear in the National Media from Tom Palacero and other reporters saying that Mike McDaniel has a limited quarterback that, you know, the offense has to do this in order to succeed with this quarterback.
- 42:00[SPEAKER_01]: Well, if the quarterback and wide receivers and offensive line are in there for extra film review to figure out this offense or to play a little bit better without
- 42:15[SPEAKER_01]: Um, is this more of a player issue or is this a coaching issue?
- 42:21[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I think the answer is I'm it's it's again, I hate to be the guy that's like, all the answers kind of in the middle.
- 42:30[SPEAKER_00]: It's both.
- 42:31[SPEAKER_00]: And, and it, but it really is because let's be honest, all this stuff that you're getting back and forth between two of McDaniel and, and, you know,
- 42:44[SPEAKER_00]: you know throwing his veiled shots.
- 42:46[SPEAKER_00]: This is just what a messy divorce looks like.
- 42:48[SPEAKER_00]: This is what it looks like.
- 42:49[SPEAKER_00]: This is what it looks like.
- 42:50[SPEAKER_00]: This is what it is.
- 42:53[SPEAKER_00]: We're in the the.
- 42:56[SPEAKER_00]: mid stages of that at this point.
- 42:58[SPEAKER_00]: And I suspect that if they continue to lose, it's only going to get worse until maybe we get out and out, just, you know, public airing of grievances, because this is kind of what happens when people's jobs are at stake and they know that they're losing it in real time.
- 43:17[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I look, I get that Mike McDoward, who wants to envision a culture where player self-government, but that doesn't work without accountability or veteran hierarchy.
- 43:29[SPEAKER_01]: The dolphins have a leadership by present with two a Tyreak, Aaron Brewer, make a Fitzpatrick, Zack Seeler.
- 43:38[SPEAKER_01]: But not leadership, by example, when that adversity hits.
- 43:41[SPEAKER_01]: It's not about yelling or being an authoritarian,
- 43:46[SPEAKER_01]: it's about clarity and focus.
- 43:50[SPEAKER_01]: These guys don't know what standard they're being held to right now because two of standards is extremely high and Mike Bigdan who even said it might be like their meeting Mike Bigdan, your standards, but two of us saying that his standards are being met.
- 44:04[SPEAKER_01]: So if it's a player-led locker room and two is the leader of the offense, if the expectation is not being met in the offensive, Mike McDaniels, the offensive coordinator, he's the offensive guy.
- 44:16[SPEAKER_01]: It's not being met by the quarterback, but the head coach offensive guard, the defective offensive coordinator offensive guy, his standards are lower.
- 44:25[SPEAKER_01]: There's a bit of a fracture there, you know.
- 44:28[SPEAKER_01]: Are you saying that Mike McDaniel is accepting something that is less then acceptable Compared to a player and Mike McDaniel is the head coach.
- 44:40[SPEAKER_01]: Are you saying that he accepts less things Maybe Mike McDaniel is not Right coach for this team or maybe he's not the right head coach right now
- 44:54[SPEAKER_00]: The bottom line is, you know, you mentioned it when you mentioned guys like Dan Campbell and guys like Ben Johnson and one of the things that they do that Mike made Daniel has failed to do in his entire tenure with the Miami Dolphins is you can have a player let locker room.
- 45:15[SPEAKER_00]: But the football team still has to take on your identity.
- 45:19[SPEAKER_00]: You still have to have an idea of what you want your team to look like.
- 45:22[SPEAKER_02]: You can't just leave that up to the players and say, OK.
- 45:29[SPEAKER_00]: you're gonna be, you're gonna decide what we are.
- 45:32[SPEAKER_00]: No, you still have to decide what you're gonna be.
- 45:36[SPEAKER_00]: You still have to have the image for the football team.
- 45:38[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe you can't even get there without a coach like Mike Medanio, who can actually lead the players?
- 45:46[SPEAKER_01]: He's not leading the players.
- 45:48[SPEAKER_01]: He's not leading the team.
- 45:51[SPEAKER_01]: You know, and I, you know, I, you know,
- 45:54[SPEAKER_01]: You lead by example, and what is the example, example, Mike McDaniel has done?
- 46:01[SPEAKER_01]: You can say adversity is opportunity, adversity is opportunity, while when the adversity hits, are you making the adjustments that your opportunity right there when you're down?
- 46:12[SPEAKER_01]: Heck, two of us said it.
- 46:14[SPEAKER_01]: Other players have said it.
- 46:16[SPEAKER_01]: We as analysts and even other fans have said it.
- 46:20[SPEAKER_01]: even opposing defensive asset coming out of the second half, we know exactly what they were gonna do.
- 46:25[SPEAKER_01]: They don't make any adjustments.
- 46:26[SPEAKER_01]: If you're down, that's adversity, right?
- 46:29[SPEAKER_01]: What's the opportunity you're gonna do?
- 46:30[SPEAKER_01]: Are you gonna make those adjustments coach?
- 46:33[SPEAKER_01]: Are those adjustments not being made?
- 46:35[SPEAKER_01]: If the players are having these film sessions, what opportunities are you doing to make sure the players know what they're watching, what they're understanding?
- 46:47[SPEAKER_01]: that's something on you coach.
- 46:50[SPEAKER_01]: That's something on you.
- 46:53[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it's, it's, it's, it's Mike McDaniel looks acts like talks like a guy that knows that he does not have any answers right now.
- 47:05[SPEAKER_00]: And that's very apparent to the players.
- 47:08[SPEAKER_00]: You can say adversity is opportunity all you want
- 47:13[SPEAKER_00]: If you don't believe and you don't act yourself in that way that adversity is opportunity and it's something that you can overcome and you're just going to and you're just kind of neatly accepting you know this is just what it is and you know you sound like you're in your press conferences and it's well you know guys we have to win and play better and like I hate to
- 47:44[SPEAKER_01]: Who is what what what do you I mean what do you need to be better learn from this from moving on like okay The same things keep showing up every son, but listen, I'll give you this.
- 47:55[SPEAKER_01]: I'll give you this There's been a big decrease in pre-stab penalties and motion penalties Good that's good, but everything else hasn't bad.
- 48:06[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah Everything else has been bad and and we'll end with all end with this because
- 48:14[SPEAKER_01]: The dolphins are kind of good enough to win every week, but they're not tough enough to finish every week.
- 48:23[SPEAKER_01]: And that's the gap between, being a middling, mediocre football team, and a good to great football team.
- 48:34[SPEAKER_01]: Right now, the dolphins seem bad to mediocre.
- 48:38[SPEAKER_01]: And if they lose this next game to Cleveland,
- 48:42[SPEAKER_01]: I want to ask you think they could lose the cleave and look at that cleave.
- 48:45[SPEAKER_01]: The defense and it's going to come up to Which defense can stop the offense from falling?
- 48:52[SPEAKER_00]: I think right now if if I had to make it I would pick Cleveland I would be and because because Quinshawn Judkins is going to run for 200 as far
