- 0:34is in the show notes. Let's jump into today's quote
- 0:38from Steve Jobs, Co founder of Apple and one of the most
- 0:42influential innovators of our time.
- 0:46He once said the only way to do great work is to love what you
- 0:52do. Interesting.
- 0:56The only way. Not one way.
- 1:00Not a helpful way, but the only way.
- 1:05Jobs isn't being poetic here. He's stating what he discovered
- 1:09building Apple. You cannot do great work without
- 1:12loving what you do. Good work?
- 1:15Yeah, sure. Competent work, absolutely.
- 1:20You can force yourself to do acceptable work in something you
- 1:23don't love. But great work, the kind that it
- 1:28changes things, the kind that matters, that requires love.
- 1:34Here's why. Great work demands more than
- 1:37talent OR effort. It demands obsession,
- 1:41persistence through failure, the willingness to try 1000
- 1:45approaches until you find the right one.
- 1:49You can't sustain that level of commitment for something you
- 1:52don't love. You'll burn out.
- 1:55You'll quit when it gets hard. You'll settle for good enough.
- 2:01But when you love what you do, you don't quit.
- 2:05The failures don't break you. They intrigue you.
- 2:09The problems don't exhaust you. They energize you.
- 2:14Jobs spend years perfecting products most people thought
- 2:18were already good enough. Why?
- 2:21Because he loved it. The work itself was the reward.
- 2:26That's the trap most people fall into.
- 2:29They think I'll do this job I don't love until I can afford to
- 2:33do what I love. The jobs is saying you've got it
- 2:37backwards. Find what you love first.
- 2:42Do that because that's the only path to great work.
- 2:46And great work is what creates the life you want, not
- 2:50tolerating work you hate. So here's the question, do you
- 2:56love what you do? Really.
- 3:00Because if you don't, you'll never do great work.
- 3:05And if you're not doing great work, what are you doing?
- 3:10Find what you love, then do that.
- 3:13It's the only way. That's it for today.
- 3:18I'm Andrew McGivern, signing off for now, but I'll be back
- 3:24tomorrow. Same pod time, same pod station
- 3:30with another daily quote.
