Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Right, We're going straight to Lizzie Yeomans, who's our Australia
- 0:03Speaker 1: correspondent this morning. Wild weather stretching from Hobart to Sydney
- 0:06Speaker 1: causing havoc there. Leslie, Good morning morning Ryan.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Yes, it has been a challenge the last few days,
- 0:14Speaker 2: to say the least Hobart and north of Hobart right
- 0:18Speaker 2: up to Devenport and it's just been horrific the rain
- 0:24Speaker 2: and the strong winds. They've brought down, brought down buildings,
- 0:28Speaker 2: They've brought down trees and power lines, and the heavy
- 0:31Speaker 2: rain has actually caused us some major flooding. The Duin
- 0:35Speaker 2: and Sticks River have overflowed in some spots down and
- 0:40Speaker 2: farmers have had to move their livestock to higher ground.
- 0:44Speaker 2: Some farms have been cut off altogether. Some properties have
- 0:47Speaker 2: been severely damaged. Even into King Island between Victoria and Tasmania.
- 0:57Speaker 2: There were windows there of over one hundred and fifty
- 0:59Speaker 2: k's an hour and that was just a horrific on
- 1:03Speaker 2: King Island as well in Victoria, around Melbourne and Gippsland,
- 1:08Speaker 2: horrific winds. Power still out for a lot of people.
- 1:12Speaker 2: I mean I lost power for nearly twenty four hours
- 1:16Speaker 2: it's just been terrible. A woman actually sadly has died
- 1:21Speaker 2: when a tree fell on a cabin. She was in
- 1:24Speaker 2: up at noammor on the New South Wales Victoria border.
- 1:26Speaker 2: She was holidaying there with her husband. He was taken
- 1:30Speaker 2: to hospital. He's still in hospital. Unfortunately she passed away.
- 1:34Speaker 2: And in New South Wales we've had flights canceled because
- 1:37Speaker 2: of the strong winds. Only one one runway at Sydney
- 1:41Speaker 2: Airport has been able to operate and a lot of
- 1:44Speaker 2: the flights that were canceled were actually between Sydney and Melbourne.
- 1:47Speaker 2: The flights just couldn't take off at all.
- 1:49Speaker 1: Goodness mean leslie very quickly. This animal handler dream World,
- 1:53Speaker 1: Gold Coast bitten by a tiger. Was the handler feeding
- 1:56Speaker 1: it or do we know why they were?
- 1:58Speaker 2: In? Mainland World hasn't actually said what actually happened. All
- 2:04Speaker 2: we've said is that it's under investigation. And what happened
- 2:08Speaker 2: was that she was in the enclosure with the tiger,
- 2:12Speaker 2: forty seven year old, a very experienced animal handler, and
- 2:17Speaker 2: there were other tigers in the enclosure as well, and
- 2:21Speaker 2: this one mauled her and she's got puncture wounds and
- 2:24Speaker 2: lacerations and she's still in hospital. She's okay, but she's
- 2:30Speaker 2: obviously pretty shaken up. But they're still investigating.
- 2:33Speaker 1: All right, Leslie, thank you very much for the update.
- 2:35Speaker 1: Leslie Yeomans with us our Australia correspondent. I looked up
- 2:38Speaker 1: that enclosure this morning at Dreamworld, the only location in Queensland.
- 2:43Speaker 1: They say where guests can tongue feed a tiger. You
- 2:47Speaker 1: put some meat in a tong you stick it through
- 2:49Speaker 1: the fence and fifteen minutes later fifty five dollars it
- 2:53Speaker 1: will cost you through the cage. You obviously don't get
- 2:56Speaker 1: in the cage with the tiger. Fifty five dollars so
- 3:00Speaker 1: really will cost you an arm in the league.
