Latest / Foul Territory / GM Territory: Jim Bowden’s list of MUST-SELL teams at Trade Deadline
Transcript
- 0:06Speaker 1: Welcome back in a GM territory, everybody. The MLB Draft
- 0:09Speaker 1: is officially over. We're heading into the All Star breaks, Doon,
- 0:13Speaker 1: all thirty teams. They're starting to turn their attention to
- 0:15Speaker 1: that trade deadline. And what's really crazy is that we
- 0:19Speaker 1: really only have like six legit sellers right now. So Jim,
- 0:23Speaker 1: let's talk about them. Let's start in the National League.
- 0:25Speaker 1: I want to start with the San Francisco Giants. What
- 0:29Speaker 1: are your thoughts about this list to players and who
- 0:31Speaker 1: they could sell?
- 0:32Speaker 2: Yeah, I think the first four names on this list
- 0:34Speaker 2: are probably the most likely that get traded.
- 0:37Speaker 3: Here.
- 0:37Speaker 2: Robbie Ray is going to be a free agent at
- 0:39Speaker 2: the end of the year, and right now it looks
- 0:40Speaker 2: like he may be one of the best starting pitchers
- 0:43Speaker 2: that is going to be available with the trade deadline.
- 0:45Speaker 2: And look, because there's only say five or six sellers
- 0:49Speaker 2: as of today, you know, someone like Robbie Ray, they're
- 0:51Speaker 2: going to probably get a really good return, which they
- 0:54Speaker 2: wouldn't be getting if guys like Trek Scoogle and Joe
- 0:57Speaker 2: Ryan were available, but they're not as of now because
- 1:00Speaker 2: their teams are in the race. Even Sunny Gray is
- 1:03Speaker 2: not available. The Red Sox today because they're in a race.
- 1:05Speaker 2: So I think when you look at the Giants, Robbie
- 1:08Speaker 2: Ray is a guy that a lot of teams looking
- 1:09Speaker 2: for a starting pitcher will be chasing, after teams like
- 1:13Speaker 2: the Baltimore Orioles, the Chicago Cubs, the Atlanta Braves, So
- 1:17Speaker 2: I think he gets moved. Todd Madley's a veteran guy.
- 1:20Speaker 2: If you're looking for a back of the rotation starter,
- 1:22Speaker 2: he could be that guy. Lewis Rise is an interesting
- 1:25Speaker 2: player on that list as well. Can play first, can
- 1:28Speaker 2: play second, has really improved defensively this year. Not a
- 1:31Speaker 2: lot of power speed, but he gets on base and
- 1:34Speaker 2: hits for a high average and creates traffic. So I
- 1:37Speaker 2: think those are probably the most likely guys that a
- 1:39Speaker 2: lot of people have mentioned the names of Rafael Devers
- 1:42Speaker 2: and Willia Damas and Matt Chapman. The more I talk
- 1:45Speaker 2: to gms throughout baseball, I think it's highly unlikely that
- 1:48Speaker 2: any of them get moved at this point.
- 1:51Speaker 1: Yeah, you mentioned a couple names there that really sparked
- 1:54Speaker 1: my interests, like Louisa Rise, Like, who wouldn't want this guy?
- 1:57Speaker 1: I mean, he has won multiple batting titles and like
- 2:00Speaker 1: you said, he just gets on base. So I think
- 2:03Speaker 1: if you're in any kind of contention, you should try
- 2:05Speaker 1: to put an offer in for this guy.
- 2:07Speaker 2: Now, look, we know he's going to be a ring,
- 2:09Speaker 2: but it's a matter of where does he play, right?
- 2:11Speaker 2: I Mean the interesting part is there's not a lot
- 2:14Speaker 2: of contending teams that are looking for a second basement, right,
- 2:18Speaker 2: A lot of teams aren't looking for a DH and
- 2:20Speaker 2: so you have to kind of look at, Okay, where
- 2:23Speaker 2: could he fit? And I think that's what's kind of interesting,
- 2:26Speaker 2: is you know, yeah, I mean I could see there
- 2:28Speaker 2: are teams that need some more offense, but most of
- 2:31Speaker 2: the teams that need it have those positions filled. And again,
- 2:34Speaker 2: there's not power, there's not speed, there's value. So I
- 2:36Speaker 2: agree with you there's a spot for him somewhere. But interestingly,
- 2:41Speaker 2: when you kind of break down all the contending teams,
- 2:43Speaker 2: there's not a lot of teams that need a player
- 2:45Speaker 2: like Lewis Arrise, although I do think he can help
- 2:47Speaker 2: a contending team absolutely.
- 2:50Speaker 1: All right, Jim, let's now move on to the New
- 2:52Speaker 1: York Mets. Oh sorry, I'm that Mets. I've been tending
- 2:55Speaker 1: to do that a lot. We've got a pretty big
- 2:57Speaker 1: laundry list of names here sticks out to you on
- 3:00Speaker 1: this list.
- 3:02Speaker 2: Well, Freddy Peralta obviously is the guy that you would
- 3:06Speaker 2: think he's going to be a free agent, would have
- 3:08Speaker 2: the most trade value, but he hasn't pitch well. He
- 3:10Speaker 2: hasn't pitch well in quite some time, and I think
- 3:12Speaker 2: for them to get the value back that they want,
- 3:15Speaker 2: he needs to have a really good two or three
- 3:17Speaker 2: starts right after the trade deadline, and I think a
- 3:20Speaker 2: lot of teams will be scouting him. Clay Holmes is
- 3:22Speaker 2: coming off the injured list. He was their best starter
- 3:24Speaker 2: when he went on the il. Although he does want
- 3:27Speaker 2: to sign a long term deal with the Mets, and
- 3:29Speaker 2: so you know, the Mets that may end up keeping
- 3:31Speaker 2: him by signing him. But he's a guy that I
- 3:33Speaker 2: think contending teams will look at, but I think the
- 3:36Speaker 2: most value at the trade market. They are going to
- 3:38Speaker 2: be the next four names after them, Luke Weaver, Roscer, Brazabon, Brooks, Rali,
- 3:43Speaker 2: and aj Minter. There are so many contending teams that
- 3:46Speaker 2: need bullpen help that are going to be chasing bullpen help.
- 3:49Speaker 2: That is where the Mets can win this trade deadline.
- 3:52Speaker 2: Focus on those four relievers. Get as many top prospects
- 3:55Speaker 2: as you can to rebuild. There's no question in the
- 3:58Speaker 2: Mets should be selling. And I think those four relief
- 4:01Speaker 2: pitchers are probably the most trade value they're going to
- 4:04Speaker 2: have at the trade deadline.
- 4:06Speaker 1: Yeah, and I think you know, if you're the New
- 4:07Speaker 1: York Mets too, in this position, there are so many
- 4:11Speaker 1: teams that could be considered buyers, right, Like we just said,
- 4:14Speaker 1: there's like the legit six sellers team wise, and it's like,
- 4:19Speaker 1: I can't remember a year at this point where I'm
- 4:21Speaker 1: thinking there's only six sellers. So the value I think
- 4:25Speaker 1: the Mets could get back, especially for you know, the
- 4:28Speaker 1: relievers you just named, like aj Minter bringing a left
- 4:31Speaker 1: hand arm out of the bullpen. Look, he has a
- 4:33Speaker 1: point five to five whip since returning May twenty six,
- 4:36Speaker 1: and then you mentioned Brooks Raley. You know they have
- 4:39Speaker 1: those arms in the pen to where I think they
- 4:41Speaker 1: could be getting a lot more value back this year
- 4:44Speaker 1: compared to you know, years in the past.
- 4:46Speaker 3: Many people have this problem. I want to eat healthy,
- 4:49Speaker 3: I have the willpower, I don't have the time and
- 4:52Speaker 3: the organization. I need help. What do you do?
- 4:55Speaker 4: I mean you go to factor I got two boys
- 4:57Speaker 4: that are looking for the gains, and they always come
- 4:59Speaker 4: in the house.
- 5:01Speaker 2: I'm looking for food.
- 5:03Speaker 4: Now they have actual healthy food that is great for them,
- 5:07Speaker 4: and you know what, it's ready in the fridge for
- 5:09Speaker 4: them to pop in and make it right away.
- 5:12Speaker 3: And they have meals built around your goals. It could
- 5:14Speaker 3: be weight loss, overall nutrition gains, more protein, fresh, never frozen,
- 5:20Speaker 3: over one hundred rotating weekly meals, including globally inspired flavors
- 5:25Speaker 3: like Mediterranean and Asian. I get all kinds of different
- 5:28Speaker 3: salads from Factor that I love, quick easy. They can
- 5:32Speaker 3: be ready in two minutes. Head to Factor Meals dot com.
- 5:35Speaker 3: Slash foul fifty off and use code ful fiftyff to
- 5:40Speaker 3: get fifty percent off and free daily Greens per box
- 5:43Speaker 3: with new subscription only while supplies last until nine twenty seven,
- 5:47Speaker 3: twenty twenty six.
- 5:48Speaker 1: All right, Jim, let's now move on to a team
- 5:50Speaker 1: in the National League Central, probably the only team that
- 5:54Speaker 1: it's selling in this division, the Cincinnati Reds. So we
- 5:58Speaker 1: got four names on this list. Who do you think
- 6:01Speaker 1: has the most trade value right now?
- 6:03Speaker 2: Oh, that's Spencer Steer for sure. You know he's got
- 6:06Speaker 2: what fourteen or fifteen home runs, He's got the power,
- 6:08Speaker 2: He's got positional flexibility. He can play first, third, left.
- 6:12Speaker 2: I think that helps. There's a lot of teams that
- 6:14Speaker 2: are out there looking for right hand here and looking
- 6:16Speaker 2: for some power. I think he would fit nicely with
- 6:20Speaker 2: a team like the Toronto Blue Jays. I think that's
- 6:22Speaker 2: a really good spot for him. I think the Cleveland
- 6:24Speaker 2: Guardians would be a good spot. Look, none of these
- 6:28Speaker 2: names really moved the needle. Eohannio Suarez has not lived
- 6:31Speaker 2: up to the expectations when they signed on. Brady Singer's
- 6:33Speaker 2: more of a back of the rotation starter. I do
- 6:36Speaker 2: like Stevenson. If someone's looking for a backup catcher, perhaps
- 6:40Speaker 2: there's a fit there with the New York Yankees as
- 6:43Speaker 2: a possibility, I don't know, but I would tell you
- 6:45Speaker 2: of the names that are there. If the Reds do sell,
- 6:47Speaker 2: and I have not heard their selling yet, but I
- 6:49Speaker 2: think they probably should based on the fact they're in
- 6:53Speaker 2: last place and based on how many games under five
- 6:55Speaker 2: hundred they are. I do think Spencer Steer is the
- 6:58Speaker 2: one trade asset they have where they could get a
- 7:01Speaker 2: really solid return. So that's something to watch.
- 7:04Speaker 1: Yeah, I like your take on Spencer's steer. Another thing
- 7:07Speaker 1: that makes them so valuable is he can really play anywhere.
- 7:10Speaker 1: We've seen him play first base, we've seen him play
- 7:13Speaker 1: on the left side of the enfield, but we've seen
- 7:14Speaker 1: him play all three positions in the outfield if needed.
- 7:17Speaker 1: That makes you a very valuable asset. And you know,
- 7:20Speaker 1: I think I agree with you. You know, I think this
- 7:22Speaker 1: team should be selling, even though we've heard they're probably
- 7:25Speaker 1: not selling yet. I want to ask you a follow
- 7:28Speaker 1: up to the Cincinnati Reds. When you have guys like
- 7:30Speaker 1: an Andrew Rabbit or Nick Lodolo, especially Andrew Abbit, he's
- 7:33Speaker 1: been pitching a lot better in recent starts. That left
- 7:37Speaker 1: handed starting pitching help you know someone that can be
- 7:40Speaker 1: you know, three four in that rotation for a contending team.
- 7:44Speaker 1: I feel like the Reds could get a lot more
- 7:46Speaker 1: value back for him this year than in years past,
- 7:50Speaker 1: where there's so much more parody. In the twenty twenty
- 7:53Speaker 1: sixth season, What are your thoughts on Andrew Rabbit?
- 7:56Speaker 2: Yeah, I like Andrew Rabbit a lot. I like Lodolo
- 7:58Speaker 2: a lot. You know, the best part to me about
- 8:00Speaker 2: the Reds organization right now going forward is the four
- 8:04Speaker 2: man rotation at the top. Right, you have a true,
- 8:06Speaker 2: you have two true aces if they're healthy, and Chase
- 8:09Speaker 2: Burns and Hunter Green, and then you've got Andrew Rabbit
- 8:11Speaker 2: Nick Lodola. As you're three and four STARTERSRT Louder when
- 8:15Speaker 2: he's healthy, there's another good arm and I think, you know,
- 8:18Speaker 2: that's the best part of this team. And then of
- 8:20Speaker 2: course you have two impact young players in La Daily
- 8:23Speaker 2: Cruz and Sal Stewart to build around. So to me,
- 8:26Speaker 2: that's the nucleus of what you're trying to do, so
- 8:29Speaker 2: really not interesting. I would listen on all players. I
- 8:32Speaker 2: think that's part of your responsibility as a general manager,
- 8:34Speaker 2: but I would be building around those guys rather than
- 8:37Speaker 2: shopping those guys at the deadline. Now teams will be
- 8:40Speaker 2: calling for them because there's too many teams that need
- 8:42Speaker 2: starting pitching. And I think when you look at the
- 8:45Speaker 2: Cincinnati Reds position player group, they need more offense, they
- 8:49Speaker 2: need better defense. You know, if some team came calling,
- 8:52Speaker 2: like the Seattle Mariners and there was a match, or
- 8:56Speaker 2: the Baltimore Oorials and there was a match, you know,
- 8:58Speaker 2: I would be open minded in those kind of scenarios.
- 9:02Speaker 2: But I think in general, those are the players that
- 9:04Speaker 2: the res need to build around. Rather than shop at
- 9:06Speaker 2: the trade deadline.
- 9:09Speaker 1: All righty Jim, Let's move on to now our last
- 9:11Speaker 1: team in the National League, the Colorado Rockies. They've got
- 9:15Speaker 1: a pretty big list here, and honestly, a lot of
- 9:17Speaker 1: these players I'm seeing have kind of outperformed, especially with
- 9:21Speaker 1: Mickey Moniac and Jake McCarthy, who has the most value
- 9:24Speaker 1: on this list.
- 9:26Speaker 2: There's not much value there for me. I mean, the
- 9:28Speaker 2: two guys I think that I would identify if I
- 9:31Speaker 2: was a contending team is Antonio Senzatel and Seth Alberson.
- 9:34Speaker 2: If I was looking for bullpen relief help. Those are
- 9:37Speaker 2: two guys that I think are definitely pluses in a
- 9:41Speaker 2: pen getting them out of corse Field. Senstel has done
- 9:44Speaker 2: a good job of going from the rotation to the pen.
- 9:47Speaker 2: He's made those adjustments well. Halverson's always had a good arm.
- 9:50Speaker 2: I think he would do better outside of corps as well.
- 9:53Speaker 2: But you know, Lorenzen and Cantanna to me, you know,
- 9:56Speaker 2: Cantanna has been heard. Lorenzen's, you know, a back of
- 9:58Speaker 2: the rotation law reliever type guy. Moniac I don't like
- 10:03Speaker 2: the splits out outside of course Field. He's got some power,
- 10:06Speaker 2: but he's also been on a few teams now, Angels, Phillies,
- 10:10Speaker 2: Jake McCarthy. I like the speed, but again he's more
- 10:12Speaker 2: of a fourth or fifth outfielder for me. So you know,
- 10:14Speaker 2: that's the problem with the Rockies. They really don't have
- 10:17Speaker 2: a lot to sell up the deadline outside of a
- 10:19Speaker 2: couple of Earlague pitchers. And that tells you what this
- 10:21Speaker 2: deadline is. I mean, it's kind of fascinating. So why
- 10:23Speaker 2: don't we shift years now, let's go for the American League.
- 10:26Speaker 1: Wait wait, wait, wait, wait, Jim, Before we jump into
- 10:29Speaker 1: the American League, everyone please do us a favor. Please, like,
- 10:33Speaker 1: please hit that subscribe button. It really helps the channel
- 10:36Speaker 1: and we greatly appreciate it. All right, we will be
- 10:39Speaker 1: right back to talk about the American League sellers.
- 10:41Speaker 3: Big second half of the season coming up. There might
- 10:44Speaker 3: be a hot ticket, a rivalry series, a sold out

- 11:38Speaker 3: the description to download the app and have the code
- 11:40Speaker 3: automatically added tier account so you can.
- 11:42Speaker 2: Use it later. American League they have even less sellers
- 11:46Speaker 2: really than the National leagues. Let's start with the Kansas
- 11:49Speaker 2: City Royals. They've got some intriguing names at the top
- 11:52Speaker 2: of this list, and Michael walk is an All Star,
- 11:54Speaker 2: but he's thirty five years old. Zetlu Goo back of
- 11:57Speaker 2: the rotation starter, but he's thirty six year old. Now,
- 12:00Speaker 2: both of these guys are controllable through next year, so
- 12:02Speaker 2: they're not free agents at the end of the year.
- 12:04Speaker 2: And the Royals are twenty games under five hundred in
- 12:08Speaker 2: last place, and so you know, if they trade these pitchers,
- 12:11Speaker 2: what's going to happen to their record after this and
- 12:13Speaker 2: how are they going to replace him in their rotation?
- 12:15Speaker 2: Not just for the end of this year, but what
- 12:16Speaker 2: are they going to do next year. That being said,
- 12:19Speaker 2: because the trade market is so thin with no schoobl
- 12:23Speaker 2: and no Ryan and Peralta not pitching, well, there's just
- 12:26Speaker 2: not a lot of starting pitching available. You know, the
- 12:29Speaker 2: Royals have to listen on Waka. They have to listen
- 12:32Speaker 2: on Logo because when they're ready to win, they're not
- 12:35Speaker 2: going to be there anyway. Their trade value probably going
- 12:37Speaker 2: to be the highest it's ever going to be is
- 12:39Speaker 2: right now. So as much as I think they would
- 12:42Speaker 2: miss them, I think they have to listen, and especially
- 12:45Speaker 2: on Michael Waka. I think that is the best trade
- 12:48Speaker 2: asset that they have on this team. And I think
- 12:52Speaker 2: they've got to listen when someone comes calling because they
- 12:55Speaker 2: can ask for ransoms, they can ask for a haul
- 12:58Speaker 2: because the team getting him isn't just gettinghim for this year.
- 13:00Speaker 2: You're getting him for a year and a half. So
- 13:02Speaker 2: that's going to be the most interesting name. I like
- 13:04Speaker 2: Lucas erseag as a relief pitcher for teams looking for depth.
- 13:07Speaker 2: And you had a couple of feelos on that list
- 13:09Speaker 2: right there, Lank Thomas Darling Marte. Both are free agents
- 13:13Speaker 2: at the end of the year, and certainly as fourth
- 13:15Speaker 2: outfielder types against left handed pitching with so many teams
- 13:19Speaker 2: needing right handed bats, I think both of them could
- 13:22Speaker 2: be movable the deadline. So interesting names there.
- 13:25Speaker 1: Yeah, I like your take on Michael Waka for sure.
- 13:28Speaker 1: I mean, I feel like he's quietly been their best starter.
- 13:31Speaker 1: He leads the American League and innings pitched. You know,
- 13:35Speaker 1: he's has a pretty low ERA under three to five,
- 13:38Speaker 1: and he's, like you said, he's signed through twenty twenty
- 13:40Speaker 1: seven with a twenty eight option, so he is not
- 13:43Speaker 1: a rental. And then you know, we talk about a
- 13:45Speaker 1: guy like Seth Lugo. Obviously this is a down year
- 13:48Speaker 1: for him, but he is not a rental. And you know,
- 13:51Speaker 1: I know we've had conversations about seeing Seth Lugo and
- 13:55Speaker 1: with the athletics, you know, getting a veteran pitcher in
- 13:58Speaker 1: a system with a lot of young guys. I kind
- 14:00Speaker 1: of like that play. So a lot of good names
- 14:03Speaker 1: on this list, you know, I'm looking forward to seeing,
- 14:06Speaker 1: you know what this team does. So why don't we
- 14:09Speaker 1: move on now to another American League team, the Los
- 14:12Speaker 1: Angeles Angels.
- 14:14Speaker 2: They have yes, go ahead, Yeah, So they have new
- 14:18Speaker 2: leadership under John Moselac, and under the previous regime led
- 14:22Speaker 2: by gim Perrymanassian. You know, he made it clear that
- 14:26Speaker 2: he did not believe that ownership would allow him to
- 14:29Speaker 2: trade Jose Soriano, Reed Debtner's or Joe Adell. However, we
- 14:34Speaker 2: believe that the change in the administration with John Moseylac
- 14:38Speaker 2: taking over, that he will be able to sit there
- 14:40Speaker 2: and talk to the team president Molly Jolly, and talk
- 14:43Speaker 2: to the owner Artie Moreno, and maybe convince them. Maybe
- 14:47Speaker 2: he won't be allowed to trade both Soriano and Debtner's,
- 14:51Speaker 2: but perhaps he'll be allowed to trade one same thing
- 14:54Speaker 2: with Joe Adell. I'm not sure he would have been
- 14:56Speaker 2: traded from the previous administration, but How are the Angels
- 14:59Speaker 2: going to to get better? How are they going to rebuild?
- 15:01Speaker 2: You have to turn these assets into two or three players.
- 15:05Speaker 2: If you could trade Soriano for three players, Debt Meer's
- 15:08Speaker 2: for three players, a Dell for two players, and get
- 15:11Speaker 2: eight for three, that's how you rebuild. Outside of the draft,
- 15:15Speaker 2: the international signings are writing checkbook baseball in the offseason
- 15:19Speaker 2: a free agency, you got to do it through trade.
- 15:21Speaker 2: So look, I think John Mozelak is going to take
- 15:24Speaker 2: advantage of this seller's market, and I think he will
- 15:27Speaker 2: bring the trade proposals to ownership and then we'll see
- 15:30Speaker 2: what the owner says. You know, there's no promise that
- 15:33Speaker 2: Ardi Moreno is going to improve the trade proposals that
- 15:36Speaker 2: John Mozelock recommends. But for the Angels to get better,
- 15:39Speaker 2: they need to take advantage of this trade deadline, right.
- 15:42Speaker 2: I mean, you've got two starters you can trade. You know,
- 15:45Speaker 2: you've got the Giants at Robbie Ray, You've got two
- 15:47Speaker 2: who else is going to be out there and going
- 15:50Speaker 2: to be available? You know, the Tigers probably aren't going
- 15:53Speaker 2: to sell on Trek Scoble if they if they stay
- 15:55Speaker 2: in contention like they are right now, the Red Sox
- 15:57Speaker 2: got red hot that took Sonny Gray in a world
- 16:00Speaker 2: Chapman off the market. So I think if you're the Angels,
- 16:03Speaker 2: you have to take this opportunity of adding two starting pitchers,
- 16:07Speaker 2: and if you could turn that into six really good
- 16:09Speaker 2: prospects that are close to the big leagues, that's going
- 16:12Speaker 2: to give your best shot of turning this franchise around.
- 16:15Speaker 2: So I think they're going to be a fascinating team
- 16:17Speaker 2: to watch at the deadline. You know, we don't know
- 16:19Speaker 2: what the owner already Marino, or the president Molly Jolly,
- 16:22Speaker 2: are going to approve or not approve, but we do
- 16:24Speaker 2: know that John Mozelok will at least be aggressive and
- 16:27Speaker 2: bring ideas forward to the people that he's working for.
- 16:30Speaker 2: So they're going to be an interesting team to watch.
- 16:32Speaker 1: Trip Yeah, I agree. And with Jose Soriano and Read
- 16:37Speaker 1: Debt Meers, those are two super valuable pieces, especially when
- 16:40Speaker 1: it comes to starting pitching in this league. Jose Soriano
- 16:43Speaker 1: already has over one hundred strikeouts, and you know he's
- 16:46Speaker 1: controllable through twenty twenty eight. And then read Debt Mers,
- 16:49Speaker 1: you know he's controlled through twenty twenty eight. So these
- 16:52Speaker 1: aren't just rentals. And read debt meers. By the way,
- 16:55Speaker 1: you know, his last seven starts, he has a score
- 16:59Speaker 1: geeing like two five era.
- 17:01Speaker 2: You know his value is.
- 17:04Speaker 1: We're going up. So I really hope the Angels decide
- 17:07Speaker 1: to move these two starting pitchers bring the value back.
- 17:11Speaker 1: I hope that they're able to move a Dell as
- 17:13Speaker 1: well and hopefully start rebuilding this from the ground up
- 17:16Speaker 1: for sure.
- 17:17Speaker 2: Okay, yeah, so now let's shift gears. Instead of talking
- 17:20Speaker 2: about sellers, let's talk about who could be the most
- 17:23Speaker 2: aggressive buyers. Okay, let's start in the National League. You know,
- 17:27Speaker 2: you look at the Dodgers. I don't expect them to
- 17:29Speaker 2: be aggressive buyers. Why because they built their team in
- 17:32Speaker 2: the off season with so much depth so they wouldn't
- 17:35Speaker 2: have to overpay for trades at the deadline. That was
- 17:38Speaker 2: their plan and that's been carried out. They're gonna get
- 17:40Speaker 2: Edwin Diaz back to help the bullpen. Just getting healthy
- 17:44Speaker 2: is what they need to do.
- 17:45Speaker 1: Now.
- 17:45Speaker 2: They may make a small trade, but I don't expect
- 17:47Speaker 2: them to be aggressive. Now in the same division, you
- 17:49Speaker 2: look at the Padres and Diamondbacks. They're so far back
- 17:52Speaker 2: they're not going to catch the Dodgers. Not in the
- 17:54Speaker 2: Division and there's no promise they can even make a
- 17:57Speaker 2: wild card, so I don't think either one of those
- 17:59Speaker 2: teams going to be aggressive. So when I look at
- 18:02Speaker 2: potential aggressive teams in the Nationalink, I'm looking at the
- 18:06Speaker 2: Miami Marlins, who really could use one more bat, preferably
- 18:10Speaker 2: at third base, maybe a bullpen arm, maybe a starter.
- 18:13Speaker 2: I expect them to be aggressive. I think the Braves
- 18:16Speaker 2: and their president GM Alex Anthopolis is going to be
- 18:19Speaker 2: very aggressive trying to get starting pitching, so that I
- 18:23Speaker 2: think those are two teams to watch, And then I
- 18:25Speaker 2: think the Cubs need to be aggressive. I'm not sure
- 18:28Speaker 2: it depends how close they get to Milwaukee. But with
- 18:31Speaker 2: the injuries that have occurred in the last week to
- 18:34Speaker 2: the Brewers' rotation, Brandon Woodriff has gone down with a showler,
- 18:37Speaker 2: Jikob Miserasky's going to now miss the All Star Game
- 18:40Speaker 2: because he's a little bit sore. Kyle Harrison just wan
- 18:43Speaker 2: on the injured list. I could see the Cubs and
- 18:45Speaker 2: Brewers being aggressive at the deadline now as well. So
- 18:48Speaker 2: maybe the most aggressive teams are going to be the
- 18:51Speaker 2: Braves and the Marlins and the Milwaukee Brewers and the Cubs,
- 18:55Speaker 2: those four in the nationallygue going over to the American League.
- 18:59Speaker 2: I think it's going to be fun because all of
- 19:00Speaker 2: a sudden, the Red Sox and Oriols are right there
- 19:03Speaker 2: and striking distance for the wildcard team. Craig Brezlo, the
- 19:07Speaker 2: GM of the Red Sox, has been looking for offense.
- 19:09Speaker 2: I think he'll be aggressive trying to get a bat
- 19:11Speaker 2: or two. I think the Orioles are going to be aggressive,
- 19:14Speaker 2: trying to get a starting pitcher. Brian Cashman's always aggressive.
- 19:18Speaker 2: I think the Yankees might. The Yankees and Rays might.
- 19:21Speaker 2: Both those teams might go big if they get the
- 19:24Speaker 2: opportunity to. I think in Chris Getz with the Chicago
- 19:28Speaker 2: White Sox is looking for starting pitching. I bet he's aggressive.
- 19:31Speaker 2: The Guardians would like to get another bat. The Maritters
- 19:33Speaker 2: are looking for a reliever and are writing in the
- 19:36Speaker 2: back as they struggle against left handed pitching. So I
- 19:38Speaker 2: think you're going to see more American League teams being
- 19:41Speaker 2: aggressive overall than the National League. But this is a
- 19:45Speaker 2: no doubt a seller's market, and the one thing I
- 19:48Speaker 2: will add, based on my conversations with the GMS over
- 19:52Speaker 2: the past couple of weeks, we may see more buyer
- 19:55Speaker 2: to buyer trades contending team to contending team trades than
- 19:59Speaker 2: we do sellers the buyers trades. And I think we
- 20:02Speaker 2: just showed everybody. Why.
- 20:04Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely a lot of good insight there. And you
- 20:07Speaker 1: know you're mentioning a lot of teams in the American
- 20:09Speaker 1: League and I absolutely agree with you.
- 20:11Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 20:11Speaker 1: I think of the Texas Rangers as a sneaky one
- 20:14Speaker 1: as well. You know, they're at the top of the
- 20:15Speaker 1: division right now, and that's a team. I know we
- 20:18Speaker 1: talked about Luisa Rise. I like that fit personally in
- 20:22Speaker 1: that ballpark. But that's just my opinion. It'd be really
- 20:25Speaker 1: cool if that works out, all right, everybody, Well, hey,
- 20:28Speaker 1: that's gonna do it For this week's edition of GM
