- 0:00Speaker 1: Yeah, that uh, Chuck Norris was chasing the Tyrannosaurus Rex.
- 0:05Speaker 1: The rex was not chasing the jeep. Murray, Murray, you there.
- 0:09Speaker 1: You love sandwiches. Huh, Let's go to uh eighty. It
- 0:14Speaker 1: was bo wow that Prime time. Maybe I had a
- 0:18Speaker 1: crush on Betty Rubble. I honestly, until after the segment
- 0:21Speaker 1: ended and we went to commercial break, had no idea
- 0:24Speaker 1: that Jonathan Coachman was black. He caught them the game
- 0:26Speaker 1: last night, although they won the game. You're listening to
- 0:30Speaker 1: Stu gottson Company. It is two Gods in Company, presented
- 0:33Speaker 1: by FanDuel and the FanDuel sportsbook The Goloks premieres August third, Monday,
- 0:39Speaker 1: ten to noon Easter on ESPN Radio, and Mike Gollock
- 0:42Speaker 1: Senior is with us right now. He's all dressed up
- 0:45Speaker 1: because he has to make the rounds of the affiliates today.
- 0:48Speaker 1: What a great day, happy day for you. Huh.
- 0:51Speaker 2: Oh you know these days, dude, Yeah, yeah, gotta gotta
- 0:55Speaker 2: go around the country, you gotta do they gotta do
- 0:57Speaker 2: the car wash, yes, said.
- 0:59Speaker 1: Yes, what I know about those days? As Dan hated
- 1:01Speaker 1: doing those things. They would give him like one or
- 1:03Speaker 1: two stations. He would maybe call into those stations and
- 1:06Speaker 1: I would get the other fifty eight. You know what
- 1:08Speaker 1: I'm saying so well, Yes.
- 1:11Speaker 2: I'm hoping that my son gets good. That I have
- 1:15Speaker 2: a quite a bit, but I'm hoping he gets more.
- 1:19Speaker 2: He's younger, he has more energy.
- 1:20Speaker 1: Yes, yes, that device it should be like eighty twenty
- 1:23Speaker 1: his way.
- 1:24Speaker 3: You know that's exactly right.
- 1:25Speaker 1: I mean, you've done enough for the kid, Jesus.
- 1:27Speaker 2: Yes, I mean, come on, man, carry me. I know
- 1:31Speaker 2: your your legs are stronger than mine. Carry your old man.
- 1:34Speaker 1: Yes, listen, when you sign it, it's all funny games
- 1:38Speaker 1: until you realize you have to make affiliate calls.
- 1:40Speaker 2: Oh yeah, philiate calls, meet with the sales team and
- 1:46Speaker 2: all that, all that fun stuff.
- 1:48Speaker 1: Yeah, yes, so they can sell out every other word
- 1:52Speaker 1: that comes out of your mouth.
- 1:53Speaker 3: Yes, yes, I listen.
- 1:55Speaker 2: I go back to the you know when you filled in,
- 1:57Speaker 2: back to the mic and mic days. My god, Yes,
- 2:00Speaker 2: we had so many reads, so many reads.
- 2:03Speaker 1: Greeney called it the sports radio obstacle course. Yeah, yeah,
- 2:09Speaker 1: it's so good. Mike. We haven't spoken to you since
- 2:13Speaker 1: Lebron made his decision, and I can't believe we're still
- 2:15Speaker 1: hanging on Lebron decisions. We'll get to football and training
- 2:19Speaker 1: camp in just a second. But Lebron chooses Philadelphia, and
- 2:23Speaker 1: as a as a Cleveland fan, as someone who grew
- 2:26Speaker 1: up in that area, you were hoping he would come
- 2:29Speaker 1: back to Cleveland. He ended up not doing so he
- 2:31Speaker 1: went to Philadelphia. What were your thoughts when the whole
- 2:34Speaker 1: thing went down?
- 2:35Speaker 2: Well, I definitely was hoping you go back to Cleveland,
- 2:38Speaker 2: you know again, yes, and kind of finish where he started,
- 2:43Speaker 2: you know, And I thought, you know, we would be
- 2:45Speaker 2: on the same planes. I'm going back to ESPN to
- 2:48Speaker 2: maybe finish where I started. That me and Lebron, you know,
- 2:51Speaker 2: we've had we've had the equal you know, sports careers share.
- 2:55Speaker 3: So yeah, of course, right.
- 2:57Speaker 1: I mean, listen, your radio career is equivalent, You're media
- 3:00Speaker 1: career is the equivalent of his basketball career.
- 3:03Speaker 3: I'm comfortable saying that.
- 3:05Speaker 2: I don't I don't know about that, but I was
- 3:07Speaker 2: definitely hoping he would go back to Cleveland because listen
- 3:11Speaker 2: that Nick's congratch to them NBA Champs, well deserved. But
- 3:15Speaker 2: you know, I I I still think that's a that's
- 3:17Speaker 2: a pretty open conference, right, especially with Giannis going down
- 3:22Speaker 2: to Miami again another place that that uh that Lebron
- 3:26Speaker 2: spurned to go to Philly. I thought he would. I
- 3:29Speaker 2: thought he would help Cleveland. Though you got hardened on
- 3:31Speaker 2: that team and Harden in the playoffs just just are
- 3:35Speaker 2: It's just a tough, tough call, as we know.
- 3:38Speaker 3: Uh So, yeah, I was a little bummed.
- 3:39Speaker 2: But listen, I spent most of my professional career in Philadelphia,
- 3:43Speaker 2: so I always kind of follow those sports teams like
- 3:46Speaker 2: I did when I was playing there, and I'm happy
- 3:49Speaker 2: for them. I'm a big Tires MAXI fan, big big
- 3:53Speaker 2: MAXI fan. I think he's an excellent player. What what vj.
- 3:58Speaker 2: Edgecombe did as a youngster has been incredible. Obviously getting
- 4:02Speaker 2: Jalen Brown there, I mean the question again, it was
- 4:05Speaker 2: like in LA they didn't have a they didn't have
- 4:08Speaker 2: a big man. You know, once Ad got hurt and
- 4:10Speaker 2: then and then traded, obviously he's gone. They didn't they
- 4:13Speaker 2: didn't have a big man, and you have a big
- 4:16Speaker 2: man and Joel Embiid.
- 4:17Speaker 3: But I mean, how much time is he going to miss?
- 4:20Speaker 1: Sure?
- 4:20Speaker 2: You know, do you massage his his minutes until and
- 4:24Speaker 2: use them well for the playoffs?
- 4:26Speaker 3: You know?
- 4:26Speaker 2: How do you because the starting five is fantastic. Yes,
- 4:30Speaker 2: but you know, with with Embid who's at injury and Lebron,
- 4:33Speaker 2: who's you know, one hundred years old, you don't know
- 4:36Speaker 2: how much you're going to get out of them. But
- 4:38Speaker 2: I mean the starting lineup is really second to none.
- 4:42Speaker 1: Yes, you need a big man because if you figure
- 4:44Speaker 1: it's going to be Oklahoma City or San Antonio in
- 4:47Speaker 1: the NBA Finals, the Knicks proved it's important to have
- 4:49Speaker 1: someone who can match up in terms of size with Wemby,
- 4:52Speaker 1: You're right, yeah, oh yeah, without question.
- 4:56Speaker 2: You know you need you need a big man, you
- 4:57Speaker 2: need a healthy big man, and that that's going to
- 4:59Speaker 2: be the big question. Now, it's going to be how
- 5:01Speaker 2: they all play together. Remember when Lebron went to Miami
- 5:06Speaker 2: with Bosh and with Dwayne Wade, they took a while
- 5:08Speaker 2: to kind of figure out how.
- 5:10Speaker 3: The flow was going to go.
- 5:11Speaker 2: But clearly now and that's but that's when Lebron was Batman.
- 5:16Speaker 2: Lebron isn't Batman anymore, and he understands that, sure that
- 5:19Speaker 2: there are other guys running the show. But you know,
- 5:22Speaker 2: you have stars in Maxie and brown Edgecomb's a young guy.
- 5:27Speaker 2: Embeat obviously has his reputation, though again, he's been he's
- 5:30Speaker 2: been injured, so they need to kind of kind of
- 5:33Speaker 2: figure it all out. But you know, that's what eighty
- 5:35Speaker 2: two games.
- 5:36Speaker 1: Are four Mike. I will say this on a team
- 5:39Speaker 1: on the Lakers last year, a team with two young
- 5:41Speaker 1: players and Luken Reeves, the only guy healthy in the
- 5:43Speaker 1: postseason was Lebron. Yes, was Lebron.
- 5:46Speaker 3: That's exactly right.
- 5:47Speaker 2: I mean, you just you never know, right, it's not
- 5:50Speaker 2: about injury because you're going to have players miss games.
- 5:54Speaker 2: You're going to have injuries. It happens all the time.
- 5:57Speaker 2: A lot of it is timing, you know, is it early,
- 5:59Speaker 2: is it middle of the season. Is it end of
- 6:01Speaker 2: the season where you got to sit them and rest
- 6:03Speaker 2: them for the playoffs? Are they hurt going into the playoffs?
- 6:06Speaker 2: So injuries are one hundred percent guaranteed by some players.
- 6:11Speaker 2: It's just a matter of when and the time you miss.
- 6:13Speaker 1: Mike. In terms of pecking, Goarter Taylor. What do you
- 6:15Speaker 1: think on this? Because Philadelphia is such a great sports
- 6:18Speaker 1: team and I'm wondering where the Sixers whar basketball ranks
- 6:22Speaker 1: amongst their favorite teams? Uh, what do you think? Like
- 6:25Speaker 1: they have the Flyers, they have the Eagles, They have
- 6:28Speaker 1: the Phillies, and they have the Sixers. What do you
- 6:30Speaker 1: think the Sixers fall in that pecking Goarterer, because Mike
- 6:32Speaker 1: would know.
- 6:32Speaker 4: My gut says the Sixers are fourth. It's it's clearly
- 6:36Speaker 4: an Eagles town. And then I would say it's a
- 6:39Speaker 4: toss up between Phillies and Flyers, and then the Sixers
- 6:42Speaker 4: kind of bring up the rear.
- 6:44Speaker 2: All right, Mike, I think I think people want to
- 6:48Speaker 2: thought the Sixers were going to do more than they've
- 6:51Speaker 2: done right now. I now I think they they probably
- 6:55Speaker 2: jumped to number two, right behind Philly, right right, I
- 6:59Speaker 2: mean the the Phillies obviously, Yes, yes, yeah, behind behind
- 7:03Speaker 2: the Eagles. Yes, what the Phillies are six games behind
- 7:06Speaker 2: Atlanta for the division lead, but you know they're they're
- 7:12Speaker 2: above five hundred. You know, there's still a decent amount
- 7:15Speaker 2: of season to go, but you hope there and with
- 7:20Speaker 2: the Flyers. Obviously, it's a great hockey town. It's a
- 7:22Speaker 2: great hockey town. Yes, it's a great sports town.
- 7:24Speaker 3: It really is.
- 7:25Speaker 2: But I don't think there's any doubt with Lebron now
- 7:28Speaker 2: on this team and the expectations that Lebron was going
- 7:31Speaker 2: to go to a team to try and be quote
- 7:35Speaker 2: unquote the final piece to win a championship, and just
- 7:38Speaker 2: the power of that starting lineup. I don't think there's
- 7:41Speaker 2: any doubt they've jumped to number two behind Philly, so
- 7:44Speaker 2: behind the Eagles.
- 7:45Speaker 1: Mike, you're the ultimate family man. How'd you feel about
- 7:48Speaker 1: Lebron James? Even if you're thinking it, I don't think
- 7:51Speaker 1: you say it out loud the fact where he said
- 7:53Speaker 1: this is not about my family. I mean, I don't
- 7:56Speaker 1: care if it's not about your family, you better present
- 7:58Speaker 1: a different to your family that this decision was all
- 8:02Speaker 1: about my family, whether it was or not.
- 8:04Speaker 2: You know, Yeah, I think you have to kind of
- 8:07Speaker 2: kind of play that game. Yeah, And though though I
- 8:14Speaker 2: don't know how he could, I guess you just leave
- 8:16Speaker 2: that part out because I don't know how he could
- 8:19Speaker 2: say family played a role in it when he has
- 8:21Speaker 2: no association with Philadelphia. Hell, there's talk about him living
- 8:25Speaker 2: in New York and going to Philly every day. Yes,
- 8:29Speaker 2: I mean that, so I don't know how he could have.
- 8:32Speaker 2: He probably should have just left that line out.
- 8:35Speaker 4: Mike, Lebron living in New York, that's an insult to Philadelphia,
- 8:38Speaker 4: right that he wants to sign there, but he doesn't
- 8:41Speaker 4: want to sign there enough to actually live within the
- 8:43Speaker 4: city limits.
- 8:45Speaker 3: There will be.
- 8:47Speaker 2: A Philadelphia fans who absolutely feel that way that they're saying, hey,
- 8:53Speaker 2: if you're going to buy into us, you know, listen,
- 8:55Speaker 2: you did this as solid by going two years, eight mil,
- 8:58Speaker 2: four million, year, three nine a year, whatever it is.
- 9:01Speaker 2: You did this a solid by that. So obviously you
- 9:03Speaker 2: think this team can win a title. But if you're
- 9:06Speaker 2: gonna sign with us, be one of us, you know,
- 9:09Speaker 2: even if it's just for the one or two years.
- 9:11Speaker 3: Be one of us.
- 9:12Speaker 2: Yes, you know, kind of kind of embraced the city,
- 9:15Speaker 2: right Yeah, and living in New York and traveling to
- 9:18Speaker 2: Philly is not embracing the city. So believe me, I
- 9:21Speaker 2: know Philadelphia fans. They will they will definitely feel rubbed
- 9:25Speaker 2: the wrong way. Unless so this team better win, right, Yes, well.
- 9:30Speaker 1: After ten games, if they're five and five, that will
- 9:32Speaker 1: start to happen. But if ten and no one's gonna
- 9:34Speaker 1: say a word, right you know that, Oh.
- 9:35Speaker 2: Yeah, we'd be like, oh, why doesn't he live here?
- 9:38Speaker 2: Maybe if he lived here, the team would be doing better.
- 9:40Speaker 2: They'll pull all kinds of things out now.
- 9:42Speaker 1: In fact, what they'll say if they're ten and O
- 9:44Speaker 1: is hey, it's working stay in New York.
- 9:45Speaker 3: Yes, yes, yes, that's very true, very true.
- 9:49Speaker 1: Oh god, Mike. We had Terrell Davis on yesterday and
- 9:52Speaker 1: I asked him if he enjoyed training kit, and he
- 9:55Speaker 1: said that he loved the first day, but by day
- 9:57Speaker 1: three or four, man, was he tired of it? How
- 10:00Speaker 1: long did it take you.
- 10:03Speaker 3: Driving to training camp.
- 10:08Speaker 2: The only person I ever met who enjoyed training camp
- 10:12Speaker 2: was when Jim McMahon was my teammate in Philadelphia, and
- 10:16Speaker 2: he enjoyed training camp. Now, I can understand why a
- 10:19Speaker 2: quarterback would be the one to enjoy it, because they
- 10:22Speaker 2: wear red jersey. They don't get hit at all, so
- 10:26Speaker 2: the physicality isn't what what the other players go through.
- 10:30Speaker 3: But he literally enjoyed it, you know, no doubt about it.
- 10:35Speaker 3: But I hated it.
- 10:36Speaker 2: I hated every It was a necessary evil. I look
- 10:40Speaker 2: kind of cock eyed at anybody who says they enjoyed it.
- 10:43Speaker 2: I could see Trell saying he enjoyed the first day,
- 10:45Speaker 2: because yeah, the first day you don't go out there
- 10:47Speaker 2: in full pads. Right, there's an acclamation process because quite honestly,
- 10:52Speaker 2: the worst days are those first few days in pads,
- 10:56Speaker 2: because no matter how long you play, you go through
- 10:59Speaker 2: the initial soreness of you went through a whole off
- 11:02Speaker 2: season of just working out, preparing, but not wearing a helmet,
- 11:06Speaker 2: not wearing shoulder pads, and all of a sudden you
- 11:09Speaker 2: put those on and then you start hitting, and the
- 11:12Speaker 2: soreness in your shoulders and neck are just every year.
- 11:17Speaker 3: You go through it every year. So and plus I
- 11:21Speaker 3: just hated it.
- 11:21Speaker 2: Now again, I'm not going to play the old man
- 11:24Speaker 2: on the steps. Camps are a little different now, right,
- 11:28Speaker 2: easy they can't go to the Yeah, well, I mean
- 11:30Speaker 2: they can't. And quite honestly, I would have loved to
- 11:33Speaker 2: play it in this era. So I didn't beat my
- 11:36Speaker 2: beat my body in training camp for six weeks and
- 11:39Speaker 2: two A days and sometimes three a days.
- 11:41Speaker 3: You know now they're now.
- 11:42Speaker 2: They're not allowed, not allowed to go back to back
- 11:44Speaker 2: practices in pads. I would have loved that. That would
- 11:48Speaker 2: have been fantastic. So that was the other thing. We
- 11:51Speaker 2: just we just beat ourselves up through through camp. It
- 11:54Speaker 2: was definitely a grind.
- 11:56Speaker 1: Say what you want to say, today's players are soft, right,
- 11:58Speaker 1: I mean.
- 11:59Speaker 3: Well I won't say soft, I'll say they listen again,
- 12:03Speaker 3: I would like to play in this era where where
- 12:07Speaker 3: the OTAs are a little less demanding and and I
- 12:11Speaker 3: know there are some that say the game has suffered
- 12:13Speaker 3: for it, but you're also looking about longevity of players
- 12:17Speaker 3: as well.
- 12:18Speaker 4: Mike, what do you think about the vide vea asking
- 12:21Speaker 4: for a trade out of Tampa Bay and Todd Bole
- 12:23Speaker 4: saying that they haven't even had conversations about trading him.
- 12:28Speaker 2: I mean, it's it's all it's all a ploy he's
- 12:31Speaker 2: trying to get, is trying to get an extension. Uh.
- 12:34Speaker 2: And if they're not talking how they want how he
- 12:38Speaker 2: wants them to talk, that that's that's the leverage, right,
- 12:42Speaker 2: The only leverage a player has, quite honestly, is withholding
- 12:46Speaker 2: his services, right, just not practicing. And you see the
- 12:50Speaker 2: thing now is for and I'm not talking about Vita,
- 12:52Speaker 2: I'm talking about others. They'll do a hold in, they'll
- 12:55Speaker 2: report to camp so they don't get fined, but they
- 12:58Speaker 2: won't practice untill something is done. That's and again that's
- 13:02Speaker 2: withholding your services. And it's all about a line of
- 13:07Speaker 2: how far you'll go to withhold your services. And that's
- 13:11Speaker 2: another part of the game, is requesting a trade saying well,
- 13:14Speaker 2: if you're not going to engage me in talks here,
- 13:16Speaker 2: then trade me and let me go somewhere else.
- 13:19Speaker 5: Mike, Speaking of hold ins, it looks like Jamiir Gibbs
- 13:23Speaker 5: Andjeon Robinson are both holding in at their respective camps.
- 13:27Speaker 3: Do you think we're going to.
- 13:28Speaker 5: See another reset of the running back market with two
- 13:31Speaker 5: of the best holding in.
- 13:33Speaker 2: Well, if if anybody's gonna reset it, it's gonna be
- 13:36Speaker 2: those guys, right, Yeah, I mean they're they're.
- 13:38Speaker 3: They're two of them.
- 13:38Speaker 2: But John Robinson's, you know, one of the best, if
- 13:41Speaker 2: not the best, two way player outside may Christian McCaffery
- 13:45Speaker 2: probably still holds that when when he's healthy but running
- 13:48Speaker 2: the ball and catching the ball out of the backfield.
- 13:50Speaker 2: But John Robinson is is incredible. So yes, they one
- 13:54Speaker 2: or two of them or both of them will reset
- 13:57Speaker 2: a running back room that what finally got reset to
- 14:00Speaker 2: what twenty million because it was in the teams for
- 14:03Speaker 2: the longest time. I think the only one lower outside
- 14:06Speaker 2: of the kickers from the running backs, I think might
- 14:09Speaker 2: be the tight ends.
- 14:11Speaker 3: But it's it's a position that needs to be.
- 14:15Speaker 2: Reset and it's going to take again unless a team
- 14:19Speaker 2: wants to pay it. It's going to take a player
- 14:21Speaker 2: with holding his services to get it because those are
- 14:24Speaker 2: two guys.
- 14:25Speaker 3: Those teams can't do without.
- 14:27Speaker 2: Right Detroit and Atlanta, they can't do without those guys,
- 14:29Speaker 2: So they're gonna they're gonna have to come to an
- 14:32Speaker 2: agreement somewhere, somewhere in the middle.
- 14:35Speaker 1: Steve Gattson Company is brought to you by Fan Duel.

- 16:41Speaker 2: Yeah, there are there are players that that don't show
- 16:44Speaker 2: up in the stats. Obviously, he gets pressures on the
- 16:47Speaker 2: quarterbacks in some sacks, but that's not a huge sack
- 16:50Speaker 2: position unless you're you know, like an Aaron Donald or
- 16:52Speaker 2: Chris Jones when he was when he was playing at
- 16:56Speaker 2: his best.
- 16:58Speaker 3: That's a that's a place where you blocks.
- 17:00Speaker 2: It's a place where understand if a run play is
- 17:05Speaker 2: supposed to go between the tackles and it has to
- 17:08Speaker 2: bounce outside, there's a reason it has to bounce outside,
- 17:11Speaker 2: and a lot of times it's the interior defensive lineman.
- 17:15Speaker 2: So while that won't show up in the films, the
- 17:19Speaker 2: players understand that that all of a sudden, when a
- 17:21Speaker 2: running back is trying to go north and south and
- 17:23Speaker 2: has to go east and west, that's because of the
- 17:26Speaker 2: interior defensive line. When there's a linebacker that's running free
- 17:30Speaker 2: to make a tackle for a no gain or a
- 17:32Speaker 2: one yard gain, maybe it's because the nose tackle or
- 17:36Speaker 2: the detackle ate up the block. So the lineman that
- 17:39Speaker 2: the center and the guard that tried to combo block
- 17:42Speaker 2: the nose tackle on the linebacker, couldn't get off on
- 17:44Speaker 2: the linebacker because the nose tackle ate up both blocks.
- 17:48Speaker 2: That doesn't show up in the playbook or in the
- 17:51Speaker 2: in the stat sheet, but I guarant Dante the linebacker
- 17:54Speaker 2: knows it because he's running free.
- 17:56Speaker 3: To make a tackle.
- 17:57Speaker 2: So it's a position probably the most outside of O
- 18:00Speaker 2: line where it's all negative. Right, it's just your your
- 18:04Speaker 2: name is called when you false starter or it's holding.
- 18:07Speaker 4: Uh.
- 18:07Speaker 3: But yeah, that interior d line.
- 18:09Speaker 2: Wow, Obviously pressures can be something that that that is
- 18:13Speaker 2: notable for the most part, it's it's it's not in
- 18:17Speaker 2: the box score.
- 18:18Speaker 3: What what they're worth.
- 18:19Speaker 4: Is Mike Jalen Carter is six years younger. But it
- 18:22Speaker 4: can't be good news for Tampa Bay to see Jalen
- 18:25Speaker 4: Carter reset the market where he gets four years, one
- 18:28Speaker 4: hundred and fifty two million dollar extension, highest paid d
- 18:32Speaker 4: tack on NFL history, which says.
- 18:33Speaker 1: He were playing today.
- 18:34Speaker 3: I mean, I mean what what? And dude deserves it.
- 18:39Speaker 2: He is an absolute train wreck for offenses. There is
- 18:43Speaker 2: there's no doubt about that. Yeah, I mean again, like
- 18:47Speaker 2: you said, you said, a key thing there six years
- 18:50Speaker 2: six years younger. Right, that's certainly there. There's meaning to that.
- 18:55Speaker 2: You know, Vidave is thirty one years old. Again, he
- 18:59Speaker 2: plays a the position where you get hit an awful lot.
- 19:03Speaker 2: So by no means is Vidave are going to get
- 19:05Speaker 2: anywhere near a deal like that. He won't get that
- 19:08Speaker 2: length of a deal or that averagwards that thirty eight
- 19:12Speaker 2: million year. I think Jalen Carter got Jalen Carter's at
- 19:17Speaker 2: the top of the list of D tackles in the league,
- 19:20Speaker 2: of or the hand the team picture, at least of
- 19:23Speaker 2: the top D tackles in the league, so he should
- 19:26Speaker 2: reset that market. Vidavea, like I said, is not going
- 19:29Speaker 2: to get that, but would like to be compensated for
- 19:32Speaker 2: his worth.
- 19:32Speaker 3: Everybody knows his worth. But again, this is.
- 19:35Speaker 2: A negotiation where a team tries to get a player
- 19:38Speaker 2: at the lowest value and a player tries to get
- 19:40Speaker 2: the highest value they can Until you work.
- 19:43Speaker 1: It out, Mike, he slipped a nine, right, Like I
- 19:46Speaker 1: remember that draft where you were telling us that you
- 19:48Speaker 1: thought Jalen Carter might be the best player in that
- 19:50Speaker 1: draft and ended up fall into nine. You have to
- 19:52Speaker 1: give the Eagles credit for getting them, you.
- 19:54Speaker 3: Know, without a doubt.
- 19:55Speaker 2: Listen, what the Eagles have done in the trade market
- 19:58Speaker 2: and free agent market has been fantastic. Yes, quite honestly,
- 20:02Speaker 2: especially on the defensive side.
- 20:04Speaker 3: And Jalen Carter is wow yep, I mean and listen,
- 20:08Speaker 3: Jordan Davis lost weight.
- 20:11Speaker 2: He he he certainly understood uh his position. He was
- 20:15Speaker 2: too heavy, couldn't stay out on the field long enough,
- 20:18Speaker 2: lost some weight, trimmed down they got.
- 20:19Speaker 3: It's a nice pairing in there.
- 20:21Speaker 4: Yeah, Mike, I don't want to pooh pooh Howie Roseman
- 20:23Speaker 4: and the job he's done in Philadelphia, But does he
- 20:25Speaker 4: really deserve that much credit when his strategy is just
- 20:28Speaker 4: draft the best player from Georgia every season? It seems
- 20:30Speaker 4: it seems like a strategy more team should be.
- 20:33Speaker 1: Well, it seems to be working, and you would think
- 20:35Speaker 1: other teams would do the same.
- 20:37Speaker 2: I mean, we we we see a lot of misses
- 20:39Speaker 2: in the first round and he gets hits.
- 20:41Speaker 3: Yeah, so yeah, I mean yeah, Georgia usually proves pretty well.
- 20:48Speaker 1: Michael, The Rams so good where this is the first
- 20:51Speaker 1: time in a long time I felt comfortable asking this
- 20:53Speaker 1: question Rams of the field because I feel like the
- 20:56Speaker 1: Rams are that talented. Obviously, Stafford needs to stay healthy.
- 20:59Speaker 1: But if if he does, I can't say it's hard
- 21:01Speaker 1: for me to believe a team's gonna beat that team,
- 21:04Speaker 1: especially if Aaron Donald comes back. So rams of the field,
- 21:07Speaker 1: who do you have there?
- 21:09Speaker 3: I mean.
- 21:11Speaker 2: That it's the Miles Garrett and Aaron Donald crazy is yeah,
- 21:16Speaker 2: and it's a really it's a deep defensive line by
- 21:19Speaker 2: the way, yes, right, I mean they won't act, they
- 21:22Speaker 2: won't have to play every play you can have. And
- 21:24Speaker 2: that's what I've always said about great D lines. You
- 21:28Speaker 2: have your obviously your superstars, but you go six sometimes
- 21:32Speaker 2: seven deep where you can roll players in, where an
- 21:35Speaker 2: old lineman is playing all seventy five eighty plays and
- 21:39Speaker 2: d lineman are kind of rolling in staying fresh. But
- 21:42Speaker 2: the offense obviously is going to put up points. It
- 21:46Speaker 2: all depends on health, right, And that's the one thing
- 21:49Speaker 2: you can't predict. We can sit there and predict cool
- 21:52Speaker 2: when what, how many games, where, how far they'll go,
- 21:54Speaker 2: But you can't predict injury. So guys have to stay healthy.
- 21:57Speaker 2: But right now, I mean, my god, they're stacked. You
- 22:00Speaker 2: you probably it's because this was always a Tiger Woods question,
- 22:04Speaker 2: right of Tiger Woods, of the field a lot of
- 22:06Speaker 2: times you were taking Tiger Woods, of course you were,
- 22:09Speaker 2: so it's hard not to lean toward LA. But it's
- 22:13Speaker 2: the it's the most injured sport of the major, of
- 22:17Speaker 2: the of the four majors. Yes, uh so, you just
- 22:20Speaker 2: you just don't know.
- 22:22Speaker 1: Aaron Shatz, who writes a football almanac every year, did
- 22:26Speaker 1: his projections. He was on with us yesterday. He said
- 22:28Speaker 1: the Texans are the best team in the AFC, which
- 22:31Speaker 1: we found interesting. He said that CJ. Stroud during the
- 22:34Speaker 1: regular season played better than people actually think that he played.
- 22:37Speaker 1: It was the postseason that was the problem. So the
- 22:40Speaker 1: defense was great. If they get mediocre quarterback play, that
- 22:43Speaker 1: team could be in the Super Bowl. Do you agree
- 22:45Speaker 1: or disagree?
- 22:46Speaker 2: It's kind of the opposite of the Cowboys. Yes, the
- 22:49Speaker 2: Cowboys have great offensive play and mediocre topolo, mediocre defensive play,
- 22:55Speaker 2: and they went out and they tried to to remedy that.
- 22:57Speaker 2: So we'll see how it goes. I Houston. Listen, it
- 23:02Speaker 2: has really been made clear that defense still wins championships.
- 23:06Speaker 2: Just look at Seattle, right and what Mike McDonald has done,
- 23:09Speaker 2: and what that what that defensive done.
- 23:11Speaker 3: Credit Sam Darnold in the offense. I get it.
- 23:13Speaker 2: You had the m v P and Kenneth Walker, who's
- 23:16Speaker 2: now with with the Chiefs. But that wasn't an offense
- 23:19Speaker 2: where he went home. Man, let's watch out for it.
- 23:21Speaker 2: But that defense was and that Houston defense is for real.
- 23:27Speaker 2: So I think a lot of it is going to
- 23:30Speaker 2: be on CJ. Stroud, you know, and and what and
- 23:33Speaker 2: what he can do. You know, obviously it would be
- 23:37Speaker 2: good to have a a running game as well.
- 23:41Speaker 3: Uh, but but a lot of it is is on CJ. Stroud.
- 23:44Speaker 2: I'm trying to find quickly their their rushing attack, uh,
- 23:48Speaker 2: and what it was last year? It was it was
- 23:50Speaker 2: in the lower third. They averaged just Aaron did point
- 23:54Speaker 2: that out. He said he needs a running game.
- 23:55Speaker 1: He didn't have that.
- 23:56Speaker 2: Let they do they do and they did not have that.
- 23:59Speaker 2: They averaged a little over one hundred and eight yards
- 24:01Speaker 2: a game last year. So it's tough to be one dimensional.
- 24:05Speaker 2: Unless that one dimension you are great. And they were
- 24:09Speaker 2: not great as far as a passing team. And I
- 24:11Speaker 2: get it as far as the regular season, but if
- 24:14Speaker 2: you want to say the best team in the AFC,
- 24:16Speaker 2: that means a team that will represent the Super Bowl,
- 24:19Speaker 2: you damn well, better play better in the playoffs, which
- 24:21Speaker 2: obviously he struggled in the playoffs and they struggled. But
- 24:24Speaker 2: I think they're one of the top teams. We keep
- 24:26Speaker 2: talking about Baltimore, Kansas City, Buffalo. Don't know what Kansas
- 24:31Speaker 2: City will be even though Mahomes is going to be
- 24:35Speaker 2: ready for Week one. Baltimore with a new coach. Obviously,
- 24:39Speaker 2: Buffalo is stacked and ready to go. They are ready
- 24:43Speaker 2: to fulfill Denver. You know, should be right there again
- 24:48Speaker 2: because they had a great defense. And I think Houston
- 24:52Speaker 2: is right there again led by their.
- 24:53Speaker 1: Defense and Joe Burrow, don't forget about him, Mike.
- 24:56Speaker 2: Yeah, well that's another one where the offense you have no,
- 25:00Speaker 2: no concerns about. But they had a bad defense and
- 25:03Speaker 2: they and they certainly like the Cowboys, they did their
- 25:06Speaker 2: work in the offseason to improve their defense. And you
- 25:10Speaker 2: don't need a top five defense when your offense is
- 25:13Speaker 2: as good as Cincinnati's. Right, get get in the upper half, yes, right, yes, right, get.
- 25:18Speaker 3: In the upper half.
- 25:19Speaker 2: Get some turnovers like the Bears do, and and you
- 25:23Speaker 2: know you could be right there.
- 25:24Speaker 1: The complete opposite of Houston. Yes, yeah, right, Just give
- 25:29Speaker 1: us enough on offense and in Cincinnati's just give us
- 25:31Speaker 1: enough on defense, you.
- 25:32Speaker 3: Know, exactly make a few stops, Mike.
- 25:36Speaker 4: One of the things that came out of SEC media
- 25:38Speaker 4: days was the revelation that John Summer likes to get petticures.
- 25:43Speaker 4: Dan Orlowski has come out completely against it, saying, you're
- 25:47Speaker 4: a dude. You're not supposed to get petticures. And I'm wondering,
- 25:50Speaker 4: where do you kind of fall in with with petticures.
- 25:52Speaker 1: I think he loves a petty if I had to.
- 25:54Speaker 3: I know, I don't. I don't.
- 25:56Speaker 2: I've never got one and I'll never get one. But
- 25:59Speaker 2: this is this is much like the pineapple on the
- 26:02Speaker 2: pizza debate. I personally don't like pineapple on a pizza,
- 26:07Speaker 2: but if you like it, get it.
- 26:09Speaker 3: It doesn't affect me.
- 26:10Speaker 2: If you guys eat pineapple pineapple on your pizza, it
- 26:13Speaker 2: doesn't affect me. If you guys, go get a petticure,
- 26:16Speaker 2: Go get a pedicure if you like it. I'm not
- 26:18Speaker 2: going to a I wouldn't subject the person at the
- 26:23Speaker 2: place to look at.
- 26:24Speaker 3: My toes and mess with my toes.
- 26:26Speaker 2: That would be horrible in and of itself, even though
- 26:29Speaker 2: I know they see bad toes. I have never gotten one.
- 26:32Speaker 2: I will never get one. But I certainly don't go
- 26:35Speaker 2: as far as Dan and say you shouldn't.
- 26:38Speaker 3: Hell, if you enjoy it, go get it. Have a ball.
- 26:41Speaker 3: I disagree.
- 26:42Speaker 5: Pineapple on pizza offends me.
- 26:47Speaker 1: Yes to his core, it does. Speaking of food, Sorel
- 26:51Speaker 1: Davis did tell us that he had five hot dogs
- 26:53Speaker 1: before a game in Tokyo and then went in. Oh yeah,
- 26:56Speaker 1: then went into the game, made a big tackle, came
- 26:58Speaker 1: to the sidelines that threw up every Did you ever
- 27:01Speaker 1: eat something before a game that made you throw up
- 27:03Speaker 1: during the game?
- 27:04Speaker 2: How could he have five hot he was playing game?
- 27:09Speaker 3: He thought he wasn't gonna play. Okay, okay. So what
- 27:15Speaker 3: I would do for home games?
- 27:18Speaker 2: I would would would go to this in Philadelphia, would
- 27:21Speaker 2: go there. My wife would come at the same time.
- 27:24Speaker 2: And when we had kids, they when the kids were young,
- 27:26Speaker 2: they would come as well, and we'd go into the
- 27:29Speaker 2: and I would take them into the wives lounge. And
- 27:32Speaker 2: then before I went down to the to the locker
- 27:35Speaker 2: room and the wives lounge, I always had a spread,
- 27:38Speaker 2: and part of the spread were these powdered cream filled donuts.
- 27:43Speaker 2: So I guess this wouldn't shock anybody listening to me
- 27:47Speaker 2: talk on the radio about pastries For the last thirty years,
- 27:51Speaker 2: That's the last thing I would eat for home games.
- 27:54Speaker 2: I would eat it on my way down to the
- 27:57Speaker 2: locker room. A powder a cream filled, powdered donut from
- 28:01Speaker 2: the wise lounge Wow. But I never threw it up.
- 28:04Speaker 2: Guys used to have for like quick energy at halftime.
- 28:08Speaker 2: Guys would have Hershey.
- 28:09Speaker 3: Bars at halftime wow in the locker room for like.
- 28:13Speaker 2: And I have no idea if any of it worked,
- 28:16Speaker 2: and I didn't eat the donut to have it work.
- 28:18Speaker 2: I ate the donut because I liked it. Of course
- 28:20Speaker 2: it was cream filled. It was awesome, and I never
- 28:24Speaker 2: threw it up before a game.
- 28:25Speaker 1: Now, did you hide the donut from Reggie? Like, if
- 28:28Speaker 1: you were walking down with a donut and Reggie White
- 28:30Speaker 1: was walking by, would you coun seal the donut?
- 28:33Speaker 3: No? Hello, they all knew I liked pastries and sweets. Hello.
- 28:37Speaker 2: I'm just making maybe because I ate so much of that.
- 28:41Speaker 2: It only held me to nine years in the league.
- 28:43Speaker 2: Maybe I could have played twelve or more if I
- 28:44Speaker 2: didn't eat as many pastries.
- 28:46Speaker 1: Who knows the Golics debuts tend the noon eas did
- 28:49Speaker 1: on ESPN Radio on Monday. We're very excited for Mike
- 28:53Speaker 1: and Mike Golick Junior. A one final question and we'll
- 28:56Speaker 1: let you go because I know you have to hop
- 28:57Speaker 1: on into Peaka Kansas the University of Indiana. This is
- 29:05Speaker 1: the big question we've been asking every guest football school
- 29:08Speaker 1: or basketball school.
- 29:11Speaker 2: I think it's right, Listen, we're in a living the
- 29:14Speaker 2: moment society now, right, we're in a microwave society where
- 29:18Speaker 2: what happened in the last fifteen seconds.
- 29:20Speaker 3: So it's a football school, right, Listen.
- 29:24Speaker 2: Signetti's had a couple of really good years, one obviously
- 29:27Speaker 2: capped off in an undefeated national championship year. And while
- 29:31Speaker 2: we'll see if they get back, but the expectation is
- 29:33Speaker 2: they're still going to be really good. So yeah, I
- 29:37Speaker 2: think because we're a living the moment society now that
- 29:40Speaker 2: it's considered a football school because they won a national championship.
- 29:45Speaker 1: All right, Mike, we appreciate the time. As always. Good
- 29:48Speaker 1: luck to you guys on Monday. I'm certain you guys,
- 29:51Speaker 1: but you've done this before. Mike. You know what you're
- 29:53Speaker 1: doing A couple of times into two hour sprint. Just
- 29:56Speaker 1: make sure you say hello to everyone in Billings. Bonds
- 30:00Speaker 1: had it for me today, Okay, yes I will. Thank you, Mike,
- 30:05Speaker 1: you got it.
