- 0:15Speaker 1: I'm Neil the drummer, and these are my buddies.
- 0:19Speaker 2: I'm Dennis the bass player.
- 0:22Speaker 3: And I'm Michael the guitar player.
- 0:26Speaker 4: Beautiful, and you guys do form the original Alice Cooper Group.
- 0:30Speaker 4: Thanks for joining us.
- 0:32Speaker 1: Welcome, Yes, thanks for putting up with us, right, all right,
- 0:37Speaker 1: just send my two kids home.
- 0:38Speaker 5: So I think putting up in you guys is going
- 0:40Speaker 5: to be pretty easy. So you guys return as the
- 0:45Speaker 5: original Alice Cooper Group on the twenty fifth of July
- 0:48Speaker 5: with the album The Revenge of Alice Cooper.
- 0:51Speaker 4: So, firstly, how are you feeling about it?
- 0:54Speaker 2: I'm wonderful, happy, Yeah, rock and roll back in the
- 1:02Speaker 2: saddle again.
- 1:03Speaker 4: Thanks. It is, it is. It's something that part of
- 1:06Speaker 4: you always knew what happened one day, or was it
- 1:08Speaker 4: sort of coming to a bit of a surprise.
- 1:12Speaker 2: No, we didn't know what was going to happen. We
- 1:14Speaker 2: we thought it was going to happen a couple of
- 1:16Speaker 2: times over the decades and then it didn't. So this
- 1:20Speaker 2: was kind of like another one of those. We weren't
- 1:22Speaker 2: popping in a champagne until we actually were in the
- 1:26Speaker 2: studio recording, and.
- 1:28Speaker 1: Even when we were in the studio recording the mixes
- 1:30Speaker 1: didn't happen till like a year later, so then it
- 1:34Speaker 1: got to be I want. I want to see the
- 1:36Speaker 1: album cover in my hands before I believe it, which
- 1:38Speaker 1: I have now, so we we know it's we know
- 1:41Speaker 1: there's Dennis got his.
- 1:44Speaker 4: No ie, I look good looking?
- 1:46Speaker 6: They Oh yeah, it's this uh British artist Graham Humphreys
- 1:55Speaker 6: who does horror movie posters.
- 1:58Speaker 1: Okay, and this.
- 2:01Speaker 2: If you'll look on his website, you'll see that this
- 2:04Speaker 2: fits right in with all of the horror fosters that
- 2:06Speaker 2: he's done.
- 2:07Speaker 1: He did welcome him. What do you do nightmare? Okay?
- 2:12Speaker 7: Well?
- 2:13Speaker 4: And scribbler do I cover it for the didgy make
- 2:16Speaker 4: this week? And it looks right all that as well?
- 2:20Speaker 1: They did a great job. Yeah yeah.
- 2:23Speaker 4: How did you guys all kept in contact over the
- 2:25Speaker 4: eaves or did he's also the guy separate wives off.
- 2:29Speaker 2: In contact? I mean, I'm married to Neil's sister for
- 2:33Speaker 2: one thing. But I talked to Michael whenever I can
- 2:38Speaker 2: track him down.
- 2:41Speaker 1: I'm loose on the desert.
- 2:43Speaker 4: We get.
- 2:45Speaker 1: Chris. We've gone back and forth. Dennison there in New
- 2:48Speaker 1: England and Alison Michael are in Arizona. So we you know,
- 2:52Speaker 1: during the the years that have passed by, we've always
- 2:56Speaker 1: gotten together. Alice, you know, plays on tour and he
- 2:59Speaker 1: comes to New England, Dennis and I go see a
- 3:02Speaker 1: show we've and that's all through the eighties and the nineties,
- 3:09Speaker 1: and then of course, after Glenn Bucks had passed away,
- 3:11Speaker 1: some things in ninety seven, some things led us, you know,
- 3:14Speaker 1: got closer and closer. And then twenty ten Hall of
- 3:18Speaker 1: Fame that really pulled us together. And I got a
- 3:21Speaker 1: home in Arizona, so I go out there in the
- 3:23Speaker 1: winter times now and and that's and we bring Dennis
- 3:28Speaker 1: out there. So we you know, we've been slowly working
- 3:31Speaker 1: up to it with the songs that we had on
- 3:34Speaker 1: the Alice's sequel to Welcome to My Nightmare, Welcome to
- 3:38Speaker 1: My Nightmare two and Paranormal Detroit Story. So you know,
- 3:43Speaker 1: with Bob Ezra in the studio, us all live in
- 3:45Speaker 1: the studio. It's just that still wasn't a guarantee we
- 3:49Speaker 1: were ever going to do an album until you know,
- 3:52Speaker 1: just decided, but a year before we actually got in
- 3:56Speaker 1: the studio, still putting songs together.
- 4:00Speaker 3: Go ahead, Michael, I'm just going to say we're the
- 4:03Speaker 3: band that wouldn't go away.
- 4:05Speaker 2: Alice would not leave. So Neil says, we went to
- 4:13Speaker 2: see Alice's shows. We didn't go to see the show.
- 4:15Speaker 2: We went up to stir up some trouble backstage one
- 4:19Speaker 2: time one time, and the people who worked for Alice
- 4:24Speaker 2: aren't sure how to handle that because one time we
- 4:27Speaker 2: went backstage, and you know, Alice's touring band. They're all great,
- 4:31Speaker 2: they're all really nice people and very talented, but we'd
- 4:35Speaker 2: like to tease everybody, including people in our own band.
- 4:38Speaker 2: That's the Alice Cooper way. So we were backstage and
- 4:44Speaker 2: the three guitar players had to go in a room
- 4:47Speaker 2: to tune up, and while they were tuning, then we
- 4:50Speaker 2: opened the door and said, you know, the Jimmy Hendricks
- 4:53Speaker 2: experience only needed one guitar player, and then closed the.
- 4:56Speaker 4: Door, pretty going down like lead balloon good hopefully.
- 5:06Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:08Speaker 4: I was gonna tell you, like even on this album,
- 5:10Speaker 4: like what's all right in the fact that you guys
- 5:12Speaker 4: are all back together again, but it's still called The
- 5:14Speaker 4: Revenge of Alice Paper like he's pretty self indulged in any.
- 5:18Speaker 1: Yeah, he sold everybody off for years, We've up sent
- 5:22Speaker 1: everybody now it's our.
- 5:24Speaker 4: Yeah, that's right.
- 5:27Speaker 2: You know, Alice Cooper fans all these years. You know
- 5:30Speaker 2: there's Alice Cooper fans that never had it easy promoting,
- 5:35Speaker 2: trying to talk other people into becoming Alice Cooper fans.
- 5:39Speaker 2: But they're still out there. Who would have ever thought
- 5:42Speaker 2: that this fifty two years later, there would be this
- 5:47Speaker 2: kind of a worldwide global reaction to us doing another album.
- 5:53Speaker 2: But they're out there, and it's great because now they
- 5:56Speaker 2: all can say yeah, yeah, and Yon, yeah, I told.
- 5:59Speaker 4: You so, let's go.
- 6:03Speaker 8: I have been the album actually musically, guys like you
- 6:06Speaker 8: trying to keep the original seventies feel it again.
- 6:10Speaker 1: Well, it's a mixture of it. Just the way we write,
- 6:13Speaker 1: you know, Chris, It's just I don't think we never
- 6:17Speaker 1: have a preconceived notion. Michael writes a song, Dennis writes
- 6:20Speaker 1: a song. I write a song. We play for each other.
- 6:23Speaker 1: Do you kind of like you know, do you like it?
- 6:25Speaker 1: What do you think about it? That's how we start,
- 6:28Speaker 1: and then we get together and play. And then I
- 6:31Speaker 1: play like Neil Smith, Dennis plays like Dennis down the
- 6:33Speaker 1: way Michael plays like Michael Bruce. We can't help playing
- 6:38Speaker 1: the way that we have always played and over the years.
- 6:42Speaker 1: Everybody's gotten better too. I mean, you know, very very
- 6:46Speaker 1: we practice a lot. We haven't just been put up
- 6:49Speaker 1: our music. I mean I've got so many drums that
- 6:52Speaker 1: I don't even have room for other things this day
- 6:55Speaker 1: and age. But no, we've We've always worked hard and.
- 7:00Speaker 2: I tried to play like Neil Smith, but it was
- 7:03Speaker 2: a disaster.
- 7:05Speaker 9: You ever go that, it's always a disaster because you
- 7:12Speaker 9: don't have You have to have enough drums, that's the secret.
- 7:17Speaker 2: And I don't. I don't even have one drum. That's
- 7:20Speaker 2: where I went wrong.
- 7:22Speaker 1: But you do a hell them a lot with four
- 7:24Speaker 1: strings though, Dennis, I'll tell you that much.
- 7:29Speaker 8: I mean, he goes part of Alison Is show in
- 7:31Speaker 8: Scotland about eight years ago and they had I think
- 7:34Speaker 8: you got the original band come on stage with the
- 7:37Speaker 8: band ahead of the time you as part of that.
- 7:40Speaker 2: Yeah, we did. Uh. We did five shows in the
- 7:43Speaker 2: UK and.
- 7:44Speaker 8: Always had one of them, always had the one in Scotland.
- 7:51Speaker 4: Right. He caught fire at the end of the show,
- 7:54Speaker 4: something up on the top of.
- 7:55Speaker 2: The yeah, yeah, right that and everybody was hoping no,
- 8:00Speaker 2: but he noticed it. But you're the guy that noticed it.
- 8:03Speaker 4: I didn't tell you until I've just told you now
- 8:07Speaker 4: who got on fire one of the fire.
- 8:12Speaker 8: Yeah, yeah, that was a fantastic show. I'll still remember
- 8:16Speaker 8: to that day. It was fucking awesome.
- 8:20Speaker 1: That was just just us, Chris the original band with
- 8:24Speaker 1: Ryan Roxy. Ryan Uh, he's done some shows with us
- 8:27Speaker 1: before pulling in for Glenn of course, and so yeah,
- 8:31Speaker 1: Alice went through his whole show. We played about the
- 8:34Speaker 1: last half hour thirty five minutes of our greatest hits
- 8:39Speaker 1: and you know, it was like a whole new set
- 8:42Speaker 1: was starting. The curtain came up and we did the intro,
- 8:46Speaker 1: this big dramatic intro to I'm eighteen. But it's a
- 8:49Speaker 1: very very heavy version, theatrical, you know version of I'm eighteen.
- 8:54Speaker 1: And the crowds loved it. I mean it was it
- 8:59Speaker 1: was exciting for us and Uh in the final I
- 9:03Speaker 1: think the final encore was allas to see traditionally the
- 9:06Speaker 1: schools out the wall. Then the other the other members
- 9:10Speaker 1: of his touring band came out with us, but but
- 9:12Speaker 1: otherwise it was just you know, the four of us
- 9:14Speaker 1: on stage with Ryan Roxy and it was powerful.
- 9:19Speaker 2: That was a rowdy crowd.
- 9:23Speaker 4: That you'll see that there was dumbers up. There wasn't it.
- 9:29Speaker 4: It was like nine guitars something that.
- 9:32Speaker 1: Was a good night.
- 9:33Speaker 2: You couldn't ask for a better crowd than that.
- 9:36Speaker 4: Now, well we had a boy. We're still talking about it.
- 9:38Speaker 8: Obviously good because I've read this album, like, you've released
- 9:44Speaker 8: the singles Black Mamba and the Worldwide.
- 9:47Speaker 4: So that's all the public set a chance to digest. Yet, like,
- 9:50Speaker 4: is that a good stuny representation of what you expect
- 9:52Speaker 4: from the whole thing?
- 9:53Speaker 2: Oh, didn't we tell you there's only two songs on
- 9:56Speaker 2: the album? I know I've had a loop of warning,
- 10:01Speaker 2: Well there's there's plenty more to be revealed, and that
- 10:07Speaker 2: we're getting there. We're in Hey, it's July first, so
- 10:11Speaker 2: the twenty fifth, we're in the we're in the month
- 10:13Speaker 2: that it's going to be released, so look out.
- 10:17Speaker 1: Yes, thirteen brand new songs. Chris one remake the Yardbird song.
- 10:22Speaker 1: That sort of a a tip of the hat to
- 10:26Speaker 1: both Jeff Beck who passed away, and that's where we
- 10:29Speaker 1: decided to do that song. And and and that was
- 10:32Speaker 1: one of Glenn's favorite songs when the early Spiders and
- 10:37Speaker 1: NAZ used to do Yardbird covers and Glenn did I
- 10:42Speaker 1: mean the band, I wasn't part of the band then,
- 10:45Speaker 1: but they were all you know, I knew who they were.
- 10:46Speaker 1: I seen him and they did that song amazing. And
- 10:50Speaker 1: then two songs the Return of the Spiders twenty twenty
- 10:55Speaker 1: five and The Titanic over Underture. So those, I mean,
- 11:00Speaker 1: those you know have been heard before. But there's thirteen
- 11:03Speaker 1: brand new songs on there, totally sixteen and I we
- 11:08Speaker 1: tried not to have a single filler song anywhere on
- 11:11Speaker 1: the album, as we always have done.
- 11:14Speaker 8: Yeah, and most it like stepping back into the studio together,
- 11:17Speaker 8: like did the groove come straight back? You know, like
- 11:20Speaker 8: it was it like on the bike while they say, oh,
- 11:22Speaker 8: was it a bit rusty?
- 11:23Speaker 2: And no, straight we went in the studio to see
- 11:27Speaker 2: if it was rusty, to get the cob webs out,
- 11:29Speaker 2: but there was nothing. It was just we walked in
- 11:33Speaker 2: and it was still there.
- 11:37Speaker 1: Yes, And we had done that, you know, like I said,
- 11:41Speaker 1: the recording one Ealysi's three of us solo albums, So
- 11:44Speaker 1: we had been in the studio doing about three songs
- 11:48Speaker 1: on each of those albums. So we'd already been back.
- 11:51Speaker 1: You know, all of us live in the studio the
- 11:54Speaker 1: way we have to do it. It's never remote ever, Well,
- 11:59Speaker 1: where we according to bedtracks to get that live feel
- 12:02Speaker 1: and excitement.
- 12:04Speaker 8: What was the first song he's jammed on when he
- 12:06Speaker 8: got back together for this one?
- 12:09Speaker 1: The first song? That's a good question.
- 12:13Speaker 2: She wasn't Black Mamba early on.
- 12:17Speaker 1: I have the list, but I don't have it in
- 12:18Speaker 1: front of.
- 12:19Speaker 2: I can't remember. We did them so fast that after
- 12:23Speaker 2: I walked out of the studio, after the dust had settled,
- 12:26Speaker 2: I couldn't even name all the songs that we had recorded.
- 12:29Speaker 2: We we went in with over fifty songs. Yeah, ron so,
- 12:35Speaker 2: so we were kind of just deciding what to do
- 12:38Speaker 2: next on the spot. So what which song did we
- 12:42Speaker 2: do first? Neil has it written down somewhere.
- 12:45Speaker 1: I'm but I don't have it here. I mean, I don't,
- 12:48Speaker 1: I don't really remember. You're right, Dennis. It was a
- 12:51Speaker 1: blur so many, so many songs that we you know,
- 12:55Speaker 1: Bob was going to be happy to get five songs done,
- 12:57Speaker 1: and we uh, you know, bedtracks to four five songs,
- 13:01Speaker 1: and we got all thirteen of them. We had to
- 13:03Speaker 1: redo one of them. That's when we did it. And
- 13:06Speaker 1: Dennis and I met with Bob and Alice and in
- 13:11Speaker 1: Nashville and we did Intergalactic Vagabond Blues. There was a
- 13:17Speaker 1: problem with the drums, the drum mics on on the
- 13:20Speaker 1: one we did, Yeah, so we had we had to
- 13:24Speaker 1: redo it. And that's when we met the guitar player Yazzi,
- 13:28Speaker 1: that Bob had found in Nashville, real hot Rode guitar
- 13:31Speaker 1: player that helped us with a lot of the lead
- 13:34Speaker 1: work on the album.
- 13:36Speaker 2: Yeah. So there was even a song that was missing
- 13:40Speaker 2: that we had recorded and somehow it got lost in
- 13:44Speaker 2: the mix, and luckily Neil had written notes and he goes, hey,
- 13:48Speaker 2: wait a minute, we did another song.
- 13:51Speaker 1: Really the album. Yeah, Bob didn't. Bob didn't remember that
- 13:57Speaker 1: we'd even done this song. And I forget which one
- 13:58Speaker 1: it is too. I'm not quite certain that I'm not
- 14:02Speaker 1: going to guess, but I went back in my notes,
- 14:05Speaker 1: and then they went to the studio and on that
- 14:07Speaker 1: specific day they looked in their charts and they found
- 14:11Speaker 1: the song. So, I mean, that was amazing that Bob
- 14:14Speaker 1: didn't remember it or didn't have a note written about it.
- 14:16Speaker 2: I didn't remember doing it.
- 14:21Speaker 1: I even remember Dennis, but it wasn't like this day
- 14:25Speaker 1: and age. You know, I go, I kind of remember,
- 14:27Speaker 1: doesn't mean I even came close to remember it.
- 14:30Speaker 2: Yeah, but let's face it, it's like way back then there
- 14:34Speaker 2: were so many We had a tape recorder, but we
- 14:37Speaker 2: couldn't afford tape. So we would work for a ten
- 14:41Speaker 2: hour rehearsal and come up with these ideas and come
- 14:45Speaker 2: back the next day and couldn't remember what we had
- 14:48Speaker 2: done the day before. It all had gone up and smoked,
- 14:51Speaker 2: so to speak.
- 14:52Speaker 1: So Bob, Bob would remember them.
- 14:55Speaker 4: Would Now you mentioned Bob a few times.
- 14:57Speaker 8: We're talking about the produce of Bob and he's been
- 15:00Speaker 8: with you guys pretty much from the start.
- 15:02Speaker 4: Like how important is he to the sound of his music?
- 15:07Speaker 2: All important?
- 15:09Speaker 1: Critical, he had to be involved. He's our George Martin.
- 15:15Speaker 2: Yeah, Bob is part of the of the group. He's
- 15:21Speaker 2: part of the chemistry. We all collaborate. Everybody has ideas
- 15:27Speaker 2: for everything that we do. We discuss it, sometimes loudly,
- 15:32Speaker 2: and Bob will be the final say when it comes
- 15:36Speaker 2: down to a standoff where we can't decide which idea
- 15:39Speaker 2: we like best and then we move forward. But Bob's there,
- 15:44Speaker 2: the humor is there amongst all of us, and uh,
- 15:48Speaker 2: he's all important. He's a key part of the chemistry, and.
- 15:54Speaker 1: Bob is one of the reasons that he's like at
- 15:56Speaker 1: this point, the fifth member of the band, like Dennis said,
- 15:59Speaker 1: and he's got to be in the studio, all of
- 16:02Speaker 1: us together, Alice, Michael, Dennis and I playing live in
- 16:05Speaker 1: the studio with Bob at the helm. And that's critical
- 16:10Speaker 1: for a lot of reasons. The chemistry, like Dennis said,
- 16:13Speaker 1: but it was also he's a master of the technology.
- 16:16Speaker 1: In today's world, I wouldn't even know where to begin
- 16:21Speaker 1: knowing what he knows. And I mean he has people
- 16:23Speaker 1: taking notes all the time. It's about as state of
- 16:26Speaker 1: the art as producer as you can get anywhere on
- 16:29Speaker 1: the planet.
- 16:31Speaker 4: That's good. That's good. I think the biggest thing people
- 16:34Speaker 4: are going to want to know about this, Like, I've
- 16:35Speaker 4: heard the album, so I can attest to it.
- 16:37Speaker 8: But how successfully do you think he's attacted the rule
- 16:42Speaker 8: and not apologetic sound of the l Escaper band from
- 16:44Speaker 8: back in the day.
- 16:47Speaker 1: I think we have, Yeah, Michael, I'm not sure.
- 16:53Speaker 2: Question now you know, how much do you think we
- 16:58Speaker 2: have captured the field of the original group?
- 17:01Speaker 3: Oh?
- 17:02Speaker 4: Lots?
- 17:02Speaker 3: I mean yeah, I mean it's still us and we
- 17:06Speaker 3: still go about it in the same way. We're still
- 17:08Speaker 3: working with Bob. Glenn's always there with us and we're
- 17:11Speaker 3: having a good time and the rest is history.
- 17:15Speaker 1: Yeah, it's true. We when we play together, we can
- 17:21Speaker 1: play together if we're all still around in the future.
- 17:24Speaker 1: We played against still going to be exactly the same
- 17:26Speaker 1: because that's that's how we play, that's how we write songs.
- 17:30Speaker 1: And then my interpretation of what I do you know,
- 17:35Speaker 1: have my signature on it. Dennis definitely has his signaturons
- 17:39Speaker 1: as the bass player we do as a as a
- 17:41Speaker 1: rhythm section. And then Alice of course with his melodies
- 17:44Speaker 1: and his lyrics, and he he always he never fails
- 17:49Speaker 1: in surprising us like he Dinnis in a while ago.
- 17:53Speaker 1: He sometimes he uses the lyrics that we've written in
- 17:56Speaker 1: songs and sometimes he'll change them. But he's the singer.
- 18:00Speaker 1: That's his job. He has to be comfortable when he
- 18:03Speaker 1: he's got to sell that song and to do it,
- 18:06Speaker 1: he has to to come up with great things. And
- 18:09Speaker 1: he surprised me. He surprised me when the when the
- 18:11Speaker 1: when the band was was together, you know, doing schools
- 18:14Speaker 1: out and billion other babies. Some of his lyrics, I
- 18:17Speaker 1: just go, these are really fucked up, man. This is
- 18:19Speaker 1: this is good and uh and that's the way it's
- 18:23Speaker 1: always been and and even today on this on this album,
- 18:26Speaker 1: I just go, yeah, there's still I mean, you know,
- 18:29Speaker 1: Alice for not crossing the line in in uh and
- 18:34Speaker 1: being uh in cursing or swearing, he can still make
- 18:39Speaker 1: some very colorful visual uh scenes and lyrics and some
- 18:45Speaker 1: of these songs. If you listen to him, I can
- 18:47Speaker 1: only see him on stage with what the staging would
- 18:50Speaker 1: be or the story around him. They come to love.
- 18:52Speaker 1: It makes them come to life.
- 18:54Speaker 2: Yeah, Alice was as excited as anybody, and the excitement
- 18:59Speaker 2: was and the us feeling like teenagers in high school again.
- 19:05Speaker 2: Was there the joking You know, we joke around a lot,
- 19:09Speaker 2: but we don't but that doesn't seopardize the the focus,
- 19:14Speaker 2: which is to make the best song that you can do. Uh.
- 19:18Speaker 2: But we just had a blast. It was so much
- 19:21Speaker 2: fun and it was so overdue and uh, we're ready
- 19:25Speaker 2: to do it again.
- 19:27Speaker 3: It was almost it's almost like skipping out on steady
- 19:31Speaker 3: time when you get that we managed to have fun
- 19:35Speaker 3: in there.
- 19:40Speaker 8: That only year at the band guys like It's gone
- 19:42Speaker 8: down in history is one of the most influential and
- 19:45Speaker 8: controversial eras of rock bands ever.
- 19:48Speaker 4: But do you feel like he's very ever controversial. Yes, yeah, intentionally.
- 19:56Speaker 1: Well that intensely. We I mean before I joined the band,
- 20:00Speaker 1: before we changed the name to Alice Cooper. But there
- 20:04Speaker 1: was there was always that element of doing something that
- 20:07Speaker 1: was totally unexpected because we were all we all went
- 20:11Speaker 1: to art class. Again's where I that's where I met
- 20:13Speaker 1: Dennis and Vince, Alice and Glenn in art class in
- 20:18Speaker 1: Glendale Community College in Phoenix, Arizona. And so we always
- 20:23Speaker 1: have to look at things differently than just the music
- 20:26Speaker 1: I want to add to it. But then as time
- 20:28Speaker 1: went on and we found our niche, we came up
- 20:31Speaker 1: the name of Alice Cooper. We created what Alice Cooper was,
- 20:35Speaker 1: and it was there was a dark side to it
- 20:36Speaker 1: and a pop pop side to it too, with hit songs,
- 20:40Speaker 1: which isn't easy to do by the way, but we
- 20:43Speaker 1: uh we we took the our love of movies and
- 20:48Speaker 1: whether it's adventure movies like James Bond or horror movies
- 20:52Speaker 1: like Frankenstein and the Werewolf and Dracula and we so
- 20:56Speaker 1: we were influenced by the like a lot of musicians
- 20:59Speaker 1: in our time, the British invasion. That was a huge
- 21:03Speaker 1: influence in music in America, and so now now it
- 21:06Speaker 1: was our turn to be influenced by it and turn
- 21:09Speaker 1: it into something new. And as it went from the
- 21:12Speaker 1: sixties into the seventies, and it was Vietnam War, it
- 21:16Speaker 1: was Charles Manson, lots of dark stuff going on in
- 21:19Speaker 1: the world, and we we hit it a really good
- 21:22Speaker 1: time that again we didn't think about it was just
- 21:25Speaker 1: part of the way we wrote what do we do?
- 21:27Speaker 3: We break open pillows on stage?
- 21:30Speaker 4: Yeah, so.
- 21:34Speaker 2: That happened. We were we were used at that point.
- 21:38Speaker 2: We didn't have any money, but we wanted to do
- 21:40Speaker 2: theatric so anything that wasn't bolted in the show. But
- 21:44Speaker 2: Neil and I on one particular occasion, the band would
- 21:48Speaker 2: get hotels, you know, and we would we would pay
- 21:52Speaker 2: for two people and then the rest of the band
- 21:54Speaker 2: would sneak in or whatever. And then when we got
- 21:56Speaker 2: to a point where we could afford to share a room,
- 21:59Speaker 2: so so I might be me and Alice one night
- 22:03Speaker 2: and whatever, but it was me and Neil and for
- 22:06Speaker 2: some reason we were bored and we started like, uh,
- 22:10Speaker 2: pounding each other in the head with pillows and a
- 22:14Speaker 2: little rip happened, and the pillow and the feathers went there,
- 22:17Speaker 2: and so then we go, hey, wait a minute, you know,
- 22:20Speaker 2: let's let's use it. When the next thing, you know,
- 22:23Speaker 2: Michael decided, well, we can spray those pillows all the
- 22:27Speaker 2: kingdom come with if I just borrow the fire extinguish. Sure.
- 22:33Speaker 2: And then, like Michael said, we stopped doing the feather
- 22:37Speaker 2: storms when Holiday inn Hotels went to foam pillows.
- 22:42Speaker 4: And the other reason why I went to five pillows.
- 22:47Speaker 2: Yeah, throwing foam at the audience wasn't quite as good.
- 22:52Speaker 4: Did the same effect.
- 22:54Speaker 2: We had to go to the Lawrence Welk bubbles at
- 22:57Speaker 2: that point.
- 23:00Speaker 4: Now I want to talk about the track What happened
- 23:02Speaker 4: to you guys? Would you Do?
- 23:03Speaker 8: Also features riffs from Glenn Buxter, of course, pasted in
- 23:06Speaker 8: ninety seven, so has it even possible?
- 23:10Speaker 2: It was a cassette that I kept in a good
- 23:13Speaker 2: place because good room temperature and away from magnets and
- 23:17Speaker 2: everything all these years, because I always wanted to finish
- 23:21Speaker 2: that song for Glenn because it was just an early
- 23:25Speaker 2: morning jam him doing this riff. And then I told
- 23:30Speaker 2: Bob Eesser and I had it, and he says, sure,
- 23:32Speaker 2: you know, with technology, we can clean it up and
- 23:35Speaker 2: use it. So Bob had cleaned the riff up, added
- 23:39Speaker 2: a click track, and then the band in the studio
- 23:44Speaker 2: spontaneously on the spot, we wrote a song to that
- 23:48Speaker 2: rift that we thought Glenn would have liked.
- 23:51Speaker 1: Yeah, what happened to you? The name of a great song?
- 23:58Speaker 8: All right, guys, Before we got I was gonna ask
- 24:00Speaker 8: you one question. It's a bit of bit out there,
- 24:02Speaker 8: a bit of left field. But one day, when you
- 24:04Speaker 8: guys do decide to call a day and retire, what do.
- 24:06Speaker 4: You hope the use scription would be on your musical seamstone.
- 24:11Speaker 2: Let's see when I retire. I am retired, not dead yet,
- 24:17Speaker 2: but you know what I found about found out about retirement.
- 24:22Speaker 2: I'm working just as hard, but without a regular paychecks.
- 24:30Speaker 1: I've retired three times, Chris, because I got into another
- 24:34Speaker 1: occupation and residential real estate here in New England for
- 24:38Speaker 1: about thirty years. So I retired from music, got into that,
- 24:42Speaker 1: retired from from that, and then I retired again from everything.
- 24:47Speaker 1: But always been playing music the whole time. So that's
- 24:50Speaker 1: kind of what you know, kept us, you know, kept
- 24:53Speaker 1: kept keep perfecting our craft, keep writing songs and hopefully
- 24:59Speaker 1: we'll do more in the future. But uh yeah, I
- 25:02Speaker 1: don't think retirement is a word that we really could
- 25:05Speaker 1: ever relate to along with the other the other phrase
- 25:08Speaker 1: growing up. So we're not going to retire or grow up.
- 25:12Speaker 1: That's forbidden after birth.
- 25:16Speaker 4: After that, Rebird sounds a little better.
- 25:20Speaker 2: Yeah, I go with I'll just got.
- 25:23Speaker 4: A mental image set of your next album cover called
- 25:25Speaker 4: Aftabath and I didn't like it.
- 25:30Speaker 2: So when you when you buy the album and walk
- 25:32Speaker 2: out of the store, you can't walk out of the
- 25:34Speaker 2: store until you cut the umbilical cord with your teeth.
- 25:40Speaker 2: Oh boy, hey, I don't know, guys, what do you think?
- 25:44Speaker 2: I think he should be in the band?
- 25:48Speaker 1: He's on something.
- 25:53Speaker 8: Time with you has come to an end, unfortunately, but
- 25:56Speaker 8: it has been an absolutely pleasure get to know you.
- 25:58Speaker 8: Go It's the Revenge of Alice papers out July twenty fifth,
- 26:01Speaker 8: and it is a fucking good album. Guys, He's abouder
- 26:04Speaker 8: once again. So congratulations and hopefully come to Australia, said Australia.
- 26:11Speaker 2: Yeahs Chress for helping us spread the word.

- 27:12Speaker 12: Running with the wom.
