- 0:23included explicit detail to Yamamoto schedule plan to
- 0:27intercept. History, strange is alien and it
- 0:32won't give us what we would like to have.

- 1:04Bill mc.com on the show page today, which is entitled.
- 1:07Ai and life, you missed any of that conversation in our first
- 1:11two hours, you can always pick. Bill, make live up on demand on
- 1:14the bill make live, I heart radio channel and the podcast
- 1:18section of Bill mc.com. Dave Bowman, how are you?
- 1:21My friend, I'm concerned bill. I mean, all this AI stuff.
- 1:26Can you imagine what happens to history once, AI, gets ahold of
- 1:30it. Well did probably the same thing
- 1:33that happens once Hollywood gets all done.
- 1:35Right? Well, that's true.
- 1:37It's that is also true. It could be that.
- 1:40What's going on in Dave's World man, it's good to have you back
- 1:42two weeks in a row and that's good.
- 1:44Yeah it's good that we're getting stronger getting getting
- 1:47better as time goes by. So I thought I would start this
- 1:51morning. I got a question on the text
- 1:55machine from last week's show and for those of you that are
- 1:57wondering, usually the best way to get ahold of me as by text.
- 2:012009. 5653 283. I do have an email address
- 2:06David, the Dave Bowman show, but I hardly use it.
- 2:11So it's I don't redeem and they've an email, he doesn't
- 2:14read an email, that's just how it works.
- 2:15Yeah, I'm I'm opposed to email generally speaking.
- 2:20So question from last week, she'll about the, the loss of
- 2:24the thresher. Hey Dave, listening to your
- 2:25latest ddh about the thresher. Are you saying the loss of the
- 2:28thresher was due to the poor condition of the ship having?
- 2:31Subjected to extreme tests and not properly repair, loss of The
- 2:37Thrasher is credited with the creation of the sub.
- 2:39Safe program seems like this is much more complicated than a.
- 2:43Yeah. That's exactly what I'm saying.
- 2:45The, the thresher was not ready for see.
- 2:48The shipyards were focused on the ballistic missile submarines
- 2:52at the time, which was the national priority.
- 2:54There are reams of documents complaining about the fact that
- 2:58she had not been properly maintained or repaired.
- 3:01But that's what Sailors do they go to see when they're told to?
- 3:05And this was a case where things went wrong really quickly.
- 3:10As far as the sub Safe program goes sub, Safe program did come
- 3:14out of the loss of the thresher and this was the idea that we do
- 3:16extra stuff for submarines to make sure that they're safe.
- 3:20But it's a program it's a paper paper trail.
- 3:26It doesn't necessarily mean that things have actually been done.
- 3:30In fact, five years later when Scorpion goes down, depending on
- 3:34which side of the argument, you're on.
- 3:36She was she was either sunk by the Russians or she was in such
- 3:42horrific shape that she was, you know, depth limited to like 150
- 3:47feet because she was not sub safe and she was not well
- 3:50maintained. So yeah, all that came out about
- 3:54a commander that's pencil whipping.
- 3:55The paperwork you're saying, it's ready.
- 3:57And when it's not, I mean, I've seen pencil whip commanders and
- 4:01that's done. Necessarily a good thing.
- 4:02I don't think any of these guys were I mean they made it clear
- 4:05what their complaints were. It's all right there in the
- 4:07reports but, you know, it was a different time.
- 4:11Bill, the Cold War was at its height and National Defense was
- 4:15seen in a priority that it's not seen today, although it should
- 4:20be and things were rushed. And we're seeing a lot of the
- 4:23same problems. Now, with our shipyards and
- 4:26maintenance of ships is starting to become very shoddy in my
- 4:30opinion. Training is not good.
- 4:33And, you know, we saw an incident last fall and in San
- 4:38Diego, we're two ships. Almost ran into each other in
- 4:41the San Diego Harbor. I mean, how the hell does that
- 4:43happen? But anyway, just because you say
- 4:46you have a program doesn't mean that it's actually doing
- 4:49anything, it just means that you say you have a program and
- 4:53there's an old Civil Service saying that goes like this, the
- 4:57less you intend to do about something, the more you have to
- 5:00talk about it. So yeah, there you go.
- 5:04And that's that's kind of the way of things.
- 5:08Very good. We get to Dave does history when
- 5:10we continue in just one minute here on Bill Mick live, Dave
- 5:15does history on Bill make live day Bowman.
- 5:17Where we going today? April, 18th is one of those
- 5:21dates that I call a Nexus date. It's one of those dates where
- 5:26things in history. Just seemed to happen, April
- 5:2818th and especially that that overnight period, April 18th.
- 5:33April 19th depending on which side of the International Date
- 5:36Line you're on. This is one of those days bill,
- 5:38that history happens and it has the benefit of being tax day
- 5:42today. So there you go.
- 5:43Well yeah, I don't know if that's a benefit or not.
- 5:45Already got my return, so many people that want to wait that
- 5:48why do we fall? $44 back so wow what can you do?
- 5:53Well I mean it's more than I've gotten back in the last 10 years
- 5:56that there you got on this date and 796.
- 5:59One of my favorite people in history, English king by the
- 6:02name of ethelred was killed and replaced by some other folks.
- 6:08It really isn't meaningful to anybody except that.
- 6:10I love the name ethelred if I was naming my son.
- 6:15Again I might reconsider there was there's a whole series and
- 6:19there's a whole series. Of ethelred's, including the
- 6:21best one, which is a guy by the name of ethelred the unready.
- 6:25Okay. She's, which is a
- 6:26misinterpretation of his name, which is actually ethelred the
- 6:29stupid. But if there's a Monty Python
- 6:33skit in that somewhere, there really is.
- 6:35In 1521. Martin Luther was on trial to be
- 6:38for heresy, you know, for nailing his Theses and 1689
- 6:42something. Most people don't know about the
- 6:44city of Boston rebelled against the British Governor.
- 6:47They they were ready to go to war in 1618 Nine because this
- 6:50guy was such a jerk and maybe someday in the future, we'll
- 6:53talk about that. Of course, it's this night that
- 6:56the British moves, begin that, Paul Revere rides to warn
- 7:00everyone that the British are coming, the British are coming
- 7:03in 1783 long before The Constitution.
- 7:07The Three-Fifths Compromise comes into play as part of the
- 7:11Articles of Confederation. So when somebody tells you that
- 7:14that that was, you know, the Constitution people were pro
- 7:17slavery. It was long before that. 18:47
- 7:21the Battle of Cerro Gordo which is not well known to most
- 7:25Americans, but it's this battle that actually leads to the
- 7:29direct American invasion of Mexico in the war the
- 7:32Mexican-American war, or she mentioned earlier the 1906 San
- 7:35Francisco earthquake, right? Probably the best one in 1930,
- 7:39the BBC, went on the air, and reported quote, there is no news
- 7:43today unquote and proceeded to play music for the next hour.
- 7:48Speaking of Monty Python, there you Have it. 1942 was the
- 7:52Doolittle. Raid on England on Japan, which
- 7:56set off a whole series of events 1954 NASA.
- 8:00Nasser seizes power and in age but today I want to focus on
- 8:041953 which is I'm sorry 1943 it would have been really easy to
- 8:11go with you know the British in the Revolutionary War and Paul
- 8:14Revere and of course the Doolittle Raid but there's a
- 8:17little-known thing that On this day in 1943, that I think is
- 8:25important for us to understand because it is the epitome of
- 8:32what America really accomplished during the second world war,
- 8:37when the Doolittle Raid happened course, this set off Yamamoto
- 8:42your escucho Yamamoto. The Japanese Admiral decided at
- 8:46that point to capture the Midway Island.
- 8:50Because he wanted to protect Japan and of course that led to
- 8:53the Battle of Midway which was an American intelligence coup,
- 8:57we broke their codes. We were reading all this stuff.
- 8:59We knew what was coming and we were able to essentially Ambush
- 9:07the Japanese at the Battle of Midway sink for aircraft
- 9:10carriers lost one of our lost one of our own.
- 9:13But literally shattered, the, the offensive capability of the
- 9:20He's Navy at the Battle of Midway.
- 9:22This was followed by and we've talked about the Battle of
- 9:24Guadalcanal. The Guadalcanal Campaign, which
- 9:27took six to eight months, which was a an attrition fight with
- 9:34the Japanese kept trying to reinforce.
- 9:36We kept trying to reinforce, it was all kinds of heavy fighting.
- 9:41And it's really, it's the Marines, I mean, one of their
- 9:44greatest hours when that was over though, and the Japanese
- 9:49had a had, finally, Evacuated Guadalcanal, their morale was at
- 9:54a dead low. Now we don't think of the
- 9:57Japanese soldiers out way. We tend to think of them as
- 10:00very, you know, code of Bushido, Bonsai kind of thing.
- 10:04But the truth was they were beaten and they were really
- 10:09depressed, they were hungry. They had been evacuated.
- 10:13Some of them, you know, not survived and morale was at an
- 10:17all-time low for the Japanese Army and the Japanese Navy in in
- 10:23early 1943, your escucho Yamamoto who was the commander
- 10:28of the Japanese Navy was well, known to Americans.
- 10:33He had been The Mastermind of the Pearl, Harbor attack and
- 10:37educated in the United States. And was usually seen on such as
- 10:41soft on America, but he wasn't will tell you more about that
- 10:45coming up after the break. Good to have you along as Dave.
- 10:49Does history on Bill make live, will let you in with comments in
- 10:52our final segment of the hour, we've got all this to get
- 10:55through with our weekly, dive into history with a look at what
- 11:00it does for us today. And if we fail to learn it, hey,
- 11:03I may just teach us something completely different as we
- 11:06discussed in our first two hours, this morning, glad to
- 11:09have you with us on a Tuesday. On Bill make live course.
- 11:11Anything you missed in the podcast section and build mc.com
- 11:14and the bill make live, I heart radio channel, 5 grand, Up for
- 11:18grabs, just for listing on your mobile device with the
- 11:20iHeartRadio app. Give that a look.
- 11:22Good luck. Today's history lesson is
- 11:55brought to you by Dave does history.
- 11:59What we do every Tuesday on Bill, Mick live, and we're in
- 12:03the middle of April, the 18th of 1943, Dave Bowman with us from
- 12:08Silverdale Washington, getting up bright and early for us.
- 12:10Every Tuesday here. All right, Dave, where we at
- 12:12man? Wait, do I have a brand now?
- 12:15You do? Yeah I didn't even know that.
- 12:17Yeah that's our that's always got Victor Lyle in the three
- 12:20marketing genius that didn't tell me what was going on.
- 12:25So uh you work some blood light. Someone we left you things are
- 12:31not going well for the Japanese empire during the second world
- 12:34war. But bye-bye early 1943
- 12:36strategically the the issue is still in doubt.
- 12:40Now in a real sense it's not because the United States is
- 12:44just starting to bring its industrial power into this but
- 12:47but tactically the issue is still really in doubt and the
- 12:51Japanese Army and the Japanese Navy are just their morale is
- 12:55just at rock-bottom they've been beaten at Midway They've been
- 12:59beaten on Guadalcanal. The United States is becoming
- 13:03more and more aggressive getting newer and newer weapons
- 13:07including the F4U Corsair airplane.
- 13:11You know, the Pappy Boyington and the Black Sheep Squadron and
- 13:15another plane called the P-38 Lightning, which they just hate
- 13:20that plane because that plane the devil's cross is what they
- 13:23call it. It, it's so good that it just
- 13:27scares the living crap out of there.
- 13:29Pilots. I mean, they don't, they're
- 13:31getting worried about things and morale is at an absolute bottom.
- 13:34So are escucho Yamamoto. The commander of the Japanese
- 13:37Navy. Who is Again, The Mastermind of
- 13:40the Pearl, Harbor attack, he's educated in the United States.
- 13:43He seen history tends to see him as soft on the United States
- 13:47because because of his one comment after Pearl Harbor.
- 13:52I fear. We've just awakened a sleeping
- 13:53giant. But reality is much different.
- 13:56He is very aggressive, very tough.
- 13:59And he at one point actually says that he personally will sit
- 14:04in the Oval Office and dictate terms to Roosevelt when we, when
- 14:09we lose the war memorial and most Americans of that era know
- 14:13that Yamamoto. I'm not sure why, we don't seem
- 14:16to know that one today. He is visible because we tended
- 14:20to vilify the Japanese in every bit of media.
- 14:24After the Or and during I mean, look at the cartoons from the
- 14:28air and everything else that's come out, right.
- 14:30But but its post-war that he becomes seen as more soft than
- 14:35he really is. And after the two disasters at
- 14:38Midway and Guadalcanal, there's a great scene in the movie,
- 14:40Midway at the end, where, you know, how will we explain this
- 14:44to his majesty? The emperor and he lowers his
- 14:47binoculars and says, I alone will will, you know, apologize
- 14:51the emperor for this after these two disasters, he hits on an
- 14:54idea. Dia, which is that he's going to
- 14:57go improve the morale of the troops.
- 15:01And so he's going to take a morale tour, specifically to a
- 15:04place called Bougainville, which is now the front line of the
- 15:08fight. He's going to fly there in a
- 15:11couple of Betty Bombers, with his Entourage and they are going
- 15:16to encourage the troops. And as they begin to make this
- 15:20tour, there's actually a picture of him standing in front of the
- 15:23troops saluting them and you know, giving them the Rob
- 15:26Banzai. Banzai.
- 15:27Cheers. And the whole tour seems to be
- 15:31going very, very well. But there's something that
- 15:36Yamamoto doesn't seem to grasp you'd think he would.
- 15:41But so far he hasn't figured out the real problem that he has,
- 15:46which isn't his morale. It's what the United States is
- 15:50doing to him and we find out in 30 seconds on wmm be coming up
- 15:58later today from the beginning, our of Glenn Beck through the
- 16:01final hour of Sean Hannity, its inflation compensation.
- 16:04When you hear the keyword, during each hour of those shows,
- 16:07you will have the opportunity and every show in between clay
- 16:09and buck in the middle there you will have a keyword you enter on
- 16:12the website at wmba m.com. It's a nationwide contest and
- 16:17that thousand dollars could be yours.
- 16:19Enter it on the web site at wmm. Be a m.com they Bowman with us.
- 16:23Dave does history so Yamamoto Dave is on a on a publicity tour
- 16:31trying to cheer up the troops and he's got something that he's
- 16:34not realized he for some reason and you know I'm a history guy.
- 16:39I'm a Navy guy. I've never really grasped.
- 16:42Why he didn't figure this out. And that is that the United
- 16:47States has been reading his mail.
- 16:49They have broken his codes. They broke his codes years ago
- 16:54and they have been reading his mail for well, over two years.
- 16:58In fact, the whole Ambush at Midway is set up because we're
- 17:02reading their, their codes. We're reading their messages.
- 17:05Now, we're not reading 100% of it, but if you get enough of it,
- 17:09you know, what's coming and the codebreakers have read, all the
- 17:14plans. For this trip that Yamamoto is
- 17:17going to make. They know exactly when he's
- 17:20going to be at what Airfield, what the route they're taking
- 17:24is, But the problem is it's just a bit too far away.
- 17:31Bougainville is just a little too far away from Guadalcanal
- 17:34for the for the fighter planes to make it.
- 17:37So they start thinking can what can we do to maybe get Yamamoto
- 17:45and get some, what's the word for it?
- 17:47Oh yeah, Vengeance on the guy who masterminded the attack on
- 17:52Pearl Harbor. And they start putting together
- 17:55this plant. They decide to use those p-38s
- 17:59that I was talking about because they are the longest range
- 18:01plane. They're going to attach drop
- 18:04tanks to it so that they have extra Fuel and they're going to
- 18:08use the three 39th Army. Air corps Squadron of P-38
- 18:12because this is really the best option.
- 18:15There's 18 of these aircraft and the commander of this makes one
- 18:19request before he decides to accept the mission.
- 18:24And that is he wants a Compass in his airplane, because the are
- 18:29the Army compasses are. No, not to be as good as the
- 18:32Navy compasses are. And if he's going to fly over
- 18:34water, like we didn't share the technology or what guess, I
- 18:38don't know. But but he's got the FBI working
- 18:41with the DEA come on. If he's gonna take off and fly
- 18:44two hours over water, he wants a Regal accurate compass and he
- 18:48knows that the Navy compasses are better than is very easily.
- 18:52They agree to do this. Now, when they take off, At 7:25
- 18:58ish in the morning from Guadalcanal, two of the planes
- 19:01immediately turn back because they have mechanical issues,
- 19:03which leaves 16 of these P38 to fly to almost two and a half
- 19:08hours to bow down. Let me interrupt you for a
- 19:11second. You said, they had 18 of these,
- 19:13they're committing every one of these they have in the fleet to
- 19:15go do this. Everyone in that Squadron?
- 19:16Yes. Okay.
- 19:17Very good. There were two other squadrons
- 19:19that were also involved but they were doing distractions in other
- 19:23places. Okay, I got you.
- 19:24So, but the three 39th is the, is the Squadron that's actually
- 19:29making the attack if they can pull this off because first they
- 19:32got a navigate all the way there, you know, dead reckoning
- 19:35with this Compass, they have to time it so that they get there.
- 19:39Just as yamamoto's are creating airplanes are coming in and then
- 19:43they got to figure out which one he's on because there's four or
- 19:45five of these airplanes. So you know it's not an easy
- 19:51thing. at about 9:20 9:30 in the morning, / Bougainville the 339,
- 19:58actually manages to intercept, the Japanese airplanes, In a dog
- 20:06fight for the ages, two of the planes are shot down.
- 20:11And they land in one lands in the jungle.
- 20:14One lands in the ocean. The rest get away.
- 20:18Did we get him? Well, that's the question.
- 20:21What we got to ask when we get back after this break?
- 20:25And we will do that with Dave Bowman and Dave does history.
- 20:29Interesting? Look at a story.
- 20:30We may not have known and I'm glad they've digs into this and
- 20:33is able to share it with us tomorrow on the show.
- 20:35By the way, a wide open Wednesday, anything you want to
- 20:39talk, anytime you call us and the one day a week, I laugh now
- 20:44off topic calls because nothing's off topic because it's
- 20:47your day on Bill Mick live. It starts at 6 a.m. and we let
- 20:51you talk anything you like, I look forward to those days as
- 20:53well. We're back with Dave, does
- 20:55history and what were your calls in a moment?
- 21:45Call Bill now three, two, one, seven six, eight, twelve, forty
- 21:49Common Sense uncommon Radio. And on Tuesdays in our 8:00
- 21:54hour, it's Dave does History Day Bowman with us from Silverdale,
- 21:57Washington this morning. As we're taking a look at taking
- 22:01out Yamamoto and the question is, can the Army Air?
- 22:07Or make it happen. Dave, where we at now, sir?
- 22:09So these 16 P38 Come across the, the flight.
- 22:15There's four. Maybe five of these Japanese
- 22:17Betty. Bombers.
- 22:18Nobody knows for sure who's in, which one.
- 22:21But of course, as soon as the bomber, see the fighters coming
- 22:23in they scatter, they go every which way which means you gotta
- 22:26split up. Now, you got to find them your
- 22:28low-level your against the, the, the jungle background.
- 22:32It's hard to see. And ultimately to of these
- 22:35planes get shot down one lands in the jungle.
- 22:37The other actually lands in the water.
- 22:40The plane lands in the water actually has Yama.
- 22:42Photos assistant on it and he's pretty ticked off.
- 22:46He actually survives the crash, he gets out walks ashore and he
- 22:50is not happy, he's screaming and yelling and blah, blah blah blah
- 22:53blah. It is until a day or so later
- 22:58that they find the other plant that crashed and of course as it
- 23:02turns out it is yamamoto's plane but he wasn't killed by the
- 23:06crash. 2 crash probably was survivable but as it turns out
- 23:11when the P-38 attacked the Plane.
- 23:13They managed to actually hit Yamamoto twice once in the head
- 23:17once in the chest with their 20. Mm cannons.
- 23:20And and almost killed him instantly.
- 23:23So he is dead and the Japanese Have to wait a bit because they
- 23:29got to confirm it. They got to get it back to to,
- 23:33you know, Tokyo and that kind of stuff.
- 23:34And it isn't until about two weeks later that they actually
- 23:37admit that Yamamoto has been killed which of course sets off
- 23:41a media firestorm in the United States.
- 23:45How did we do this? What do we do?
- 23:46How do we end the pilots themselves?
- 23:49It's really bizarre bill because there's one pilot that makes the
- 23:52claim I did this but nobody can confirm it.
- 23:56Nobody seems to be able to actually do it.
- 24:00He does newspaper interviews, magazine interviews, and gets an
- 24:04award and the whole nine yards. But then later on, it's like,
- 24:07did he really do it? We don't really know if he did
- 24:11or not. And the problem is with these
- 24:15interviews that it becomes obvious to anybody that's paying
- 24:19attention that the United States knew exactly where he was going
- 24:22to be. And when he was going to be
- 24:24there, well, how do you know that?
- 24:26You know it because you may ask the question.
- 24:29Nobody actually asks that question.
- 24:32Uh-huh. But it becomes, I mean, you took
- 24:35off with extra fuel tanks to go to a very specific place at a
- 24:40very specific time. How did you know to be there?
- 24:43Hmm. Well, nobody wants to say it but
- 24:47we cracked your codes but somehow or another and I'm not
- 24:51sure how Bill the Japanese still don't get that.
- 24:56And still continue to use the same code.
- 24:58Even after the loss of Admiral are escucho Yamamoto.
- 25:01The Mastermind of the Pearl Harbor attack, the United States
- 25:06still manages to Club to protect its classified War stuff.
- 25:11Now, we've watched leaks in the last couple of weeks
- 25:15technically, operation Vengeance was never technically leaked but
- 25:20all these claims and counterclaims and arguments and
- 25:23controversy and everything else. The Japanese still.
- 25:26Never seem to catch on to it, which is so weird to me, even,
- 25:30you know, almost 80 years later that they never seem to catch on
- 25:33that. Oh, our codes were broken and
- 25:37it's like, they just never seem to figure that out.
- 25:40April 18th, like I said, is a Nexus date and with everything
- 25:44else that happened. It was this date 1943, that saw
- 25:48the death of Admiral are escucho Yamamoto at the hands of the
- 25:51three 39th Army. Air corps, Squadron P38 the Is
- 25:56to accomplish one of the most remarkable intelligence Coos of
- 26:01all time. They knew where he was going to
- 26:03be they managed to get there with a navy.
- 26:05Compass, by the way, and doing so took out essentially, the
- 26:10heart and soul of the Japanese Imperial Navy once and for all
- 26:16and they never ever recovered from that.
- 26:21And we're back with your calls for Dave Bowman on Dave does
- 26:23history. Three, two, one, seven, six,
- 26:25eight, twelve. Fart 40.
- 26:27Talking about a minute. We'll continue in 60 seconds on
- 26:29Bill Mick live. Dave Bowman with us.
- 26:34Dave does history on Bill make live three two one seven six
- 26:37eight twelve forty. Dave we seem to know back in
- 26:41those days and in days earlier that we coin phrases like loose
- 26:46lips. Sink ships, do we have that
- 26:50mindset in America today or as little red, the secret, and do
- 26:54what we can with it. Let's get famous.
- 26:56Let's be Julian Assange, let's do something like that.
- 26:58Right. Let's let's be you know impress
- 27:02our buddies. A Discord server.
- 27:04Hey, there is something that has changed.
- 27:07And you know, when you look at World War Two and the way that
- 27:11the media related to the military and what they I mean
- 27:14Eisenhower told the Press what was going to happen on June 6
- 27:181944 and then said, please don't print this until after it
- 27:22happened and they didn't. Now what can you imagine that
- 27:25happening today? No.
- 27:27And what else? What changed?
- 27:29I think that what changed and this is You know, you're kind of
- 27:34at a broad, you're painting with a very broad brush.
- 27:37Sure, but the Pentagon papers during Vietnam when it became
- 27:41obvious that the, the government and particularly the military
- 27:45was lying about things. Whether you can justify those
- 27:50lies are not really, not the role of an issue, when it became
- 27:53clear that they were lying, you know, the trust goes down.
- 27:58Well, You got the same thing happening today.
- 28:02I mean, this Leak with the with the Airmen nobody's talking
- 28:06about what's in the lake all they're talking about is the
- 28:09leaker and you know, the 21 year old and this that neither
- 28:12nobody's talking about the fact that the leaks are showing that,
- 28:16you know, the most of what we're being told about the war in
- 28:18Ukraine, is a lie that your crane is losing that they are in
- 28:21Desperate shape. And how can we, it's, it's a
- 28:26media prop up of an event. That's not going as it is We
- 28:30could have had a, I create this story but of, for all we know
- 28:33they did but it's, you know how convenient that this leak is
- 28:38being welcomed by Ukraine? Because it shows that they
- 28:41desperately need help and many in American government are
- 28:44looking at this going. See, we need to, we need to
- 28:46spend more billions of your money on this war.
- 28:50So you get to this point where you just don't trust anything
- 28:54anymore because you don't know who you can trust anymore.
- 28:58You don't, there's no. No, I guess in a way there's no
- 29:03clear-cut, right? And wrong like there was during
- 29:05World War 2, the Japanese, and the Germans were the am the
- 29:09enemy period and you treated them as the enemy and nowadays,
- 29:13it's like, well, half this country thinks Ukraine is our
- 29:16Ally half. This country knows that.
- 29:18That's the most corrupt Nation on Earth.
- 29:22How do you unite a country around that?
- 29:24And I don't know the answer to that.
- 29:27Well, politician politicians asking that question every two
- 29:31or four or six years to get to the phones line.
- 29:34One you're on with Dave Bowman on Bill make live good morning.
- 29:37Good morning Bill. Good morning David Brody yeah
- 29:40Brody. What's on your mind here, buddy?
- 29:42babe, could you think that the Japanese Might have not known
- 29:50about was this the same time at the Navajo code talkers were
- 29:55going in. There were trying to figure out
- 29:56our codes and trying to break our code and our Cryptid
- 30:02messages systems. You know, maybe that's why they
- 30:06were too concerned about breaking our own clothes that
- 30:10they thought that they could. We couldn't break their codes.
- 30:13Interesting question. Brody, thank you.
- 30:15Dave, the code talkers, the Navajo code.
- 30:17Attackers actually come about this is about the time they
- 30:20start where they really become effective as later in 1944 1945.
- 30:25And while they're trying to break our codes, and it doesn't
- 30:27make any sense because, you know, nobody speaks Navajo
- 30:30except for the Navajo. What a brilliant idea that was
- 30:34the problem is you get this, this attitude of invincibility.
- 30:40And that's what the Japanese had with their guns.
- 30:42The Germans, by the way, did the same thing, when the Enigma
- 30:44machine got broke. They refuse to believe that the
- 30:46Enigma machine. Got got captured and broken.
- 30:50And so they never change the codes.
- 30:52This is, you know, basic code systems 101.
- 30:58You never not change your code. You change your codes up because
- 31:02on a regular basis, because otherwise and you don't use the
- 31:04same systems because of the chance that they could be
- 31:08broken. The Japanese, in my view, should
- 31:11have figured this out specially after Midway.
- 31:13They should have known after Midway that we were reading
- 31:16their codes. Otherwise, There's no way we, we
- 31:19pull that off, but they didn't, and then when Yamamoto is is
- 31:24killed in operation Vengeance on this date 1943, then they
- 31:28certainly should have figured it out because there's the odds on
- 31:3216 P38 with drop tanks being in exactly the right place at
- 31:36exactly the right time without being told about it is 0.
- 31:41This is this was out of their range.
- 31:44This had to be planned and yet they still don't figure that
- 31:47out. And I To this day.
- 31:48I think that's one of the biggest mysteries of World War
- 31:51Two is, why the Japanese? Don't figure that out.
- 31:55That's interesting. Well, going back to our
- 31:57recurring theme of the day with artificial intelligence.
- 32:00How does that change the coding World award?
- 32:03I can't even imagine. That's hard to even think about.
- 32:08Because now, even if you break the code, do you believe it or
- 32:11not? I mean, how much, how much false
- 32:14flag stuff? Do you put into a to an AI thing
- 32:17that? And you know, goes back to other
- 32:21stuff Bill. What if I let you break my code,
- 32:24so that I want you to read what I think you want to read even
- 32:29though that's not really the case.
- 32:31I mean, how much of that is going on and it's Boyd's that
- 32:34well that goes back to Schwartz coffin and desert storm, right
- 32:39where CNN broadcast. Here's what we're doing.
- 32:41Here's where people are said to be and it was all right, let's
- 32:44let him think this and we're going somewhere else which is
- 32:46right out of Tom Clancy, Tom clancys.
- 32:48Clancy, wrote a novel long before that where they did
- 32:51exactly that. They put on a fake news report
- 32:54that convince the enemy that things were the way they were.
- 32:57And, you know, it's weird. That fiction has come to life,
- 33:01truth has become Stranger Than Fiction.
- 33:04I guess in so many ways. So M5 is running the Enterprise.
- 33:09Is that what you're telling me horde now?
- 33:13I really feel like Captain done soul.
- 33:15Don't, I don't we all that interesting de Ville.
- 33:19Any idea what you're looking ahead to and Dave does history?
- 33:21No one will hit. What may be coming up, you know,
- 33:24you had to ask me that didn't you?
- 33:26You had in mind and then I brought the quest, right?
- 33:28It's gone. Sorry.
- 33:30That's quite all right. And down but you can catch up by
- 33:33the way. Dave is back with what the frock
