- 1:12Speaker 1: Way for you. Welcome back. This portion of the program
- 1:15Speaker 1: brought to you by the Dollar Floor Store. Last night,
- 1:20Speaker 1: the Rangers shut out the Milwaukee Brewers five to nothing.
- 1:24Speaker 1: And this team made up of the little rascals, the
- 1:29Speaker 1: young guns have come in and made a huge difference.
- 1:33Speaker 1: One of those played for Texas A and m Michael
- 1:37Speaker 1: Hellman last night with his first career grand slab in
- 1:42Speaker 1: the fifth inning, broke a scoreless tie. If that wasn't
- 1:46Speaker 1: good enough, he decided he would add an RBI double,
- 1:53Speaker 1: so he accounted for all five runs. Listen to me
- 1:58Speaker 1: the second player in club history with five rbi and
- 2:04Speaker 1: a five to nothing win. Josh Young did that three
- 2:08Speaker 1: years ago. Believe it or not, it was at Seattle,
- 2:12Speaker 1: which is a graveyard for the Rangers. Uh, let's hear
- 2:16Speaker 1: from young Michael Hellman after last night's game.
- 2:22Speaker 5: It was a crazy game, lass through a through an
- 2:25Speaker 5: absolute gem. We had a lot of a lot of
- 2:29Speaker 5: good pitchers come in and and shut them down, and
- 2:32Speaker 5: to have a shutout in that game and only have
- 2:35Speaker 5: to put up five runs. Surprisingly, it was great.
- 2:39Speaker 6: When I made contact with the ball, I had no
- 2:41Speaker 6: idea where it was because my helmet kind of like
- 2:43Speaker 6: slipped on me and I looked falfers and then I
- 2:46Speaker 6: heard the crowd kind of go nuts. I picked it
- 2:48Speaker 6: up and I was like, wow, I might that might
- 2:50Speaker 6: be good, But yeah it was. It was a cool moment, and.
- 2:55Speaker 5: All the guys are super excited, super happy for me,
- 2:57Speaker 5: and so I think that with all with everything that's
- 3:00Speaker 5: happened over the last few weeks and losing guys and
- 3:03Speaker 5: stuff like that, we have. It's kind of our duty
- 3:06Speaker 5: to come in here and try and just produce something,
- 3:10Speaker 5: get something for the team, anything that we can get done. Yeah,
- 3:14Speaker 5: but it's fun. Boone actually calls us the stunt squad.
- 3:17Speaker 4: So that's Michael Hellman. What a game last night? Tonight?
- 3:25Speaker 1: Jack Lighter is on the mound for the good guys
- 3:30Speaker 1: against Chad Patrick. The Rangers just have to keep winning.
- 3:35Speaker 1: Simple as that, they have to keep winning. It's that
- 3:38Speaker 1: time of year. They are running out of games. They've
- 3:43Speaker 1: played one hundred and forty five so far. There's just
- 3:46Speaker 1: seventeen games left in the season. Honestly, the Rangers need
- 3:52Speaker 1: to win between eleven and twelve of those seventeen games.
- 3:57Speaker 1: I mean, that's asking a lot, but honestly, I think
- 4:02Speaker 1: that's what they're going to have to do to get
- 4:05Speaker 1: into the playoffs. The fact that we're talking about the
- 4:09Speaker 1: playoffs for this team on September ninth is in itself
- 4:12Speaker 1: a minor miracle.
- 4:14Speaker 4: Jacob Latz really good.
- 4:18Speaker 1: Sixth started the season five and two thirds innings, gave
- 4:21Speaker 1: up just three hits, walked one batter, had struck out four.
- 4:30Speaker 1: He's two seven to three in his last six starts
- 4:36Speaker 1: and had this team is getting pitching like crazy. It's
- 4:40Speaker 1: it's pretty amazing and scratching just enough runs. Here is
- 4:46Speaker 1: Jacob Latz afterward, Jakie've had some really.
- 4:49Speaker 7: Good spot starts this year, but five and thirds shut
- 4:52Speaker 7: out innings against the best team in baseball.
- 4:54Speaker 6: What allowed you to have this kind.
- 4:55Speaker 8: Of performance tonight?
- 4:58Speaker 9: Yeah, just sticking to Westman working, I've had a good
- 5:01Speaker 9: feel of all four of my pitches lately, and today
- 5:05Speaker 9: was just a combination of both the scouting reports, the
- 5:08Speaker 9: game plan, and execution of the pitches that kept them
- 5:12Speaker 9: off balance and one pitch ahead of time. You know,
- 5:15Speaker 9: Mike's got to remind me on that, and that was
- 5:17Speaker 9: really all I was thinking about.
- 5:18Speaker 10: So, yeah, you've.
- 5:21Speaker 11: Got a standing ovation tonight from Cloblake Fields. You've done
- 5:25Speaker 11: just about everything this team has asked to do this season,
- 5:28Speaker 11: so to get that kind of.
- 5:29Speaker 10: Recognition, what was that like?
- 5:31Speaker 9: Yeah, it was it was really nice. Just really appreciative
- 5:35Speaker 9: of the crowd, uh showing the love and felt like
- 5:38Speaker 9: the the energy in the stadium was good, especially after
- 5:42Speaker 9: the Grand Slam there by. Hellman, it was a great night,
- 5:47Speaker 9: a good way to start off the series. And you know,
- 5:50Speaker 9: it just came in the momentum. Little by little, we
- 5:52Speaker 9: keep fighting our way inch and closer, and so it's
- 5:55Speaker 9: just a good way to start the series.
- 5:58Speaker 11: Those teams had shout outs going to the fifth.
- 6:00Speaker 10: So what was your reaction to that.
- 6:03Speaker 3: Michael Heman grand play.
- 6:05Speaker 12: It was great.
- 6:05Speaker 9: It was a good little build up there. We kind
- 6:07Speaker 9: of you know, started to get guys on base and
- 6:09Speaker 9: you could feel the tension rising and and then just
- 6:12Speaker 9: one swing in the bad Obviously Higgy missed it by
- 6:15Speaker 9: a few inches there, so it was you know, it
- 6:20Speaker 9: was just a good example of the way the season
- 6:23Speaker 9: has been going. You know, we're keep fighting and we're
- 6:27Speaker 9: really close. At times, we get maybe a couple of
- 6:29Speaker 9: bad breaks, but no one shows it and Helman comes
- 6:32Speaker 9: through us. He's been doing. He had a good I'll
- 6:35Speaker 9: feel the cyst too. That was big. They were aggressive
- 6:38Speaker 9: on the basis and we took advantage of that, and
- 6:41Speaker 9: so to come through on the swing as well, it
- 6:43Speaker 9: was a pretty special night for him.
- 6:46Speaker 13: We've talked to you about it this year through various starts.
- 6:49Speaker 10: You'd happy you came up as a starter transition to
- 6:52Speaker 10: a reliever. How have you, I guess just adjusted all season.
- 6:55Speaker 10: It kind of been you know, in the bold hand,
- 6:57Speaker 10: and then you need to make spot starts here and there,
- 6:58Speaker 10: and then it's kind of str you're own right now,
- 7:01Speaker 10: you know, making kind of consistent starts.
- 7:03Speaker 9: Yeah, it's just you know, a reminder of it doesn't
- 7:07Speaker 9: matter when you're pitching or what role you're you have,
- 7:12Speaker 9: is just going out there and executing the pitch. I think,
- 7:16Speaker 9: you know, being in the book and I've said it
- 7:17Speaker 9: a few times has helped me just you know, take
- 7:20Speaker 9: each pitch and each batter the same, nothing too far ahead,
- 7:24Speaker 9: and you know, I think that's what's helped me a
- 7:27Speaker 9: lot throughout. This is just one pitch, one inning at
- 7:31Speaker 9: a time, and then you look up in your five
- 7:32Speaker 9: six innings and it doesn't it doesn't overwhelm you like
- 7:35Speaker 9: it used to as a starter for me personally. But yeah,
- 7:39Speaker 9: just you know, one step at a time kind.
- 7:43Speaker 14: Of going off that. I know, you're happy with whatever
- 7:45Speaker 14: role you're in, and you're going to do whatever role
- 7:47Speaker 14: they put you in. But is there a a satisfaction
- 7:51Speaker 14: or a pride in the fact that you've now put
- 7:54Speaker 14: together body of work that proves to either you or
- 7:57Speaker 14: the Rangers that you can be a starter at the
- 8:01Speaker 14: big league level.
- 8:02Speaker 9: Yeah, I mean, you know, deep down, I've always always
- 8:05Speaker 9: wanted to be that person, you know, I just it
- 8:12Speaker 9: feels good to contribute to wins and to do it
- 8:15Speaker 9: in that fashion is a little added boost for me personally.
- 8:19Speaker 9: But yeah, you know, just answering the call whatever has
- 8:22Speaker 9: been asked for me, you know, that's all you can do.
- 8:26Speaker 9: And so whatever direction they go, it's fine as long
- 8:30Speaker 9: as we keep winning and keep pushing for the playoffs.
- 8:32Speaker 2: Here you share that you can tell you're playing with confidence.
- 8:36Speaker 4: So how have you seen your confidence.
- 8:38Speaker 9: Grow and once the all, Yeah, you know, I can
- 8:43Speaker 9: feel the moments out there where I'm just very relaxed
- 8:46Speaker 9: and you know, have a confidence to me. I'm a
- 8:49Speaker 9: have a calm demeanor on the mound. That's always been
- 8:52Speaker 9: something that I carry with me. But it definitely helps
- 8:56Speaker 9: when you get on a good string of you know,
- 8:59Speaker 9: innings and and outings. So the one thing I've noticed
- 9:03Speaker 9: is just being calmer and in the moment a lot
- 9:06Speaker 9: more at this level now with more experience.
- 9:12Speaker 1: That's Jacob Latz after a terrific outing last night. Remember
- 9:17Speaker 1: you play an interview, as I mentioned, I did with
- 9:19Speaker 1: Davy Johnson three years ago August thirtieth, right before he
- 9:26Speaker 1: was inducted into the Hall of Honor at A and M.
- 9:29Speaker 1: He was not well enough to travel to receive that award,
- 9:34Speaker 1: as you will here on the interview, but he was
- 9:37Speaker 1: still great. I've talked to him several times, and I'm
- 9:41Speaker 1: going to read a quote that I read yesterday by
- 9:44Speaker 1: Thomas Boswell, the great columnist from the Washington Post, when
- 9:48Speaker 1: he wrote about Davy Johnson on his final week as
- 9:51Speaker 1: a manager with the Washington Nationals. He called Johnson one
- 9:55Speaker 1: of the smartest and most stubborn, loyal and in subnord
- 10:00Speaker 1: independent and opinionated, honest and funny, patient and multifaceted men
- 10:08Speaker 1: that baseball has ever seen.
- 10:14Speaker 4: Damie, how are you?
- 10:17Speaker 11: Oh, I'm not too good.
- 10:19Speaker 4: Well you're here. That's a good thing.
- 10:22Speaker 11: Well, I'm still here.
- 10:27Speaker 1: I wanted to first of all, I want to congratulate
- 10:29Speaker 1: you for being inducted into the A and M Athletics.
- 10:32Speaker 4: Hall of Honor. How surprised were you when they called
- 10:36Speaker 4: and told you.
- 10:37Speaker 11: Well, you know, it was a great honor. And you
- 10:40Speaker 11: know I got periferopathy and my sugar hands going on
- 10:44Speaker 11: in my body, and that's eden got college a pain
- 10:50Speaker 11: doctor because I can't. I can't stand up, honey.
- 10:55Speaker 6: Right, So.
- 10:57Speaker 11: A three out on a plane? Yes, yes, I couldn't
- 11:02Speaker 11: make it. Yes, I'm sorry. Yeah, I wanted to make
- 11:05Speaker 11: it the worst way. I can't. Can't tell you because
- 11:10Speaker 11: you know and then order to me.
- 11:12Speaker 1: You know, I know we have visited before about your
- 11:16Speaker 1: time here. It wasn't terribly lengthy because I think you
- 11:20Speaker 1: played one year of baseball, if I'm not mistaken, at
- 11:23Speaker 1: A and M before you went to the draft, is
- 11:25Speaker 1: that right?
- 11:26Speaker 11: Two years?
- 11:27Speaker 4: Two years? Okay, okay, let me.
- 11:30Speaker 11: Tell you something. Let me tell you something. What's Tom?
- 11:37Speaker 11: I have to tell this story Tom Chandler. I was
- 11:41Speaker 11: just gonna be my speech to him. Tom Chandler offered
- 11:47Speaker 11: me a four year scholarship, okay. And then he met
- 11:54Speaker 11: me in San Antonio, all right, looked at the Scott
- 12:00Speaker 11: Ship for him, and I read the first page and
- 12:03Speaker 11: I said one year scholarship. I said, hey, coach, you
- 12:10Speaker 11: offered me a four year scholarship and this is one year.
- 12:14Speaker 11: And he looked me in the face and said, that's
- 12:18Speaker 11: what's probably the youth today. They're all looking for security,
- 12:21Speaker 11: and I'm the opportunity. I said, okay, I'll sign and
- 12:26Speaker 11: then and then and I also told him, I said,
- 12:34Speaker 11: I'm a I want to uh played basketball, yes, And
- 12:41Speaker 11: they thought, you know what. Then I made the starting
- 12:46Speaker 11: team as a freshman, a bunch of great stars. Uh
- 12:55Speaker 11: and uh so they transferred my scholarship basketball and the
- 13:07Speaker 11: good news was that I was going to stay Henderson Hall.
- 13:11Speaker 11: I don't even know, so I wanted to come there.
- 13:13Speaker 11: I want to see Henderson Hall because they had a
- 13:15Speaker 11: pool and the chef.
- 13:18Speaker 4: That's funny, you know.
- 13:19Speaker 11: What I mean?
- 13:19Speaker 4: Yeah, exactly, I know what you mean.
- 13:22Speaker 1: And you were you were you weren't getting all that
- 13:24Speaker 1: with baseball because they were a little mostly there were
- 13:27Speaker 1: partial scholarships with baseball.
- 13:29Speaker 11: Correct well, yeah, but they had you know, loose dorms
- 13:34Speaker 11: that they were staying. I drinking. I said, this is great.
- 13:40Speaker 11: And you know what what was you've it was worse
- 13:45Speaker 11: than that. I told Tom. I said, Tom, I'm gonna
- 13:52Speaker 11: basketball scholarship. Now what's that deal? He said, that's great,
- 13:56Speaker 11: he said, because now I've got a scholarship for baseball.
- 14:00Speaker 4: Exactly.
- 14:04Speaker 11: But anyway, Uh, I enjoyed, you know, I was, like
- 14:09Speaker 11: I said, the starting guard for the basketball team. And
- 14:13Speaker 11: then and then and then in the second year. My
- 14:17Speaker 11: sophomore year, I was starting guard for the sophomore and
- 14:21Speaker 11: for the major team. And two things really happened to
- 14:29Speaker 11: me that were unbelievable. First of all, in basketball, Uh,
- 14:40Speaker 11: I was I don't know if you remember him. You
- 14:44Speaker 11: sound young, because you probably don't remember how jobs At
- 14:48Speaker 11: Rogers was a basketball coach.
- 14:50Speaker 1: Yes, well you you had Shelby Metcalf your freshman year, correct.
- 14:55Speaker 11: Right, she met with my coaching infessionally also somewhat, I
- 15:00Speaker 11: guess in my sophomore I don't know how John Rogers
- 15:05Speaker 11: I was starting guarding on the on the varsity team,
- 15:09Speaker 11: and we were doing great. We were doing great, and
- 15:15Speaker 11: we were playing Texas Tech, and I was guarding his
- 15:21Speaker 11: left handed shooters was thirty five points a game, and
- 15:26Speaker 11: I held him to six points. M because I was
- 15:32Speaker 11: a great defender, held six points in the in uh
- 15:38Speaker 11: in the game. And how joh I wasn't a great
- 15:43Speaker 11: score you know Daniel Lennox.
- 15:46Speaker 4: And uh Lennox, Yeah, yeah, he was, he was.
- 15:50Speaker 11: He was a great school. Yes. And and and another
- 15:56Speaker 11: guy I forget his name was four and he was
- 16:00Speaker 11: a good scoring anyway. So there was like I was
- 16:07Speaker 11: guarding this guy and every time he went up for
- 16:09Speaker 11: a shot. I just handling his ass, you know, And
- 16:15Speaker 11: so he had six points. He points like a ten
- 16:19Speaker 11: points stuff in the game. And how Johns Rogers took
- 16:24Speaker 11: me out because I wasn't scoring, you know, so he
- 16:27Speaker 11: put me on the bench. And then this guy went off.
- 16:33Speaker 11: We were close to winning. This guy went off, and
- 16:37Speaker 11: then George Rogers said to me, oh, he him up
- 16:42Speaker 11: in the head. He said, damn, I forgot about you.
- 16:47Speaker 11: He said, you're coming back next year. I said, I
- 16:51Speaker 11: doubt it. And then in baseball, you know, we're playing
- 16:59Speaker 11: Tech and all we had to do was beat Texas
- 17:04Speaker 11: and to go the same way in basketball, we go
- 17:07Speaker 11: to the finals. In Texas, I was playing shortstop and
- 17:15Speaker 11: for the was my sophomore year, and I had two
- 17:19Speaker 11: one home run off their ace pitcher and we went
- 17:23Speaker 11: ahead by a run. And then in the bottom of
- 17:29Speaker 11: the ninth, two grand balls were hit to me and
- 17:33Speaker 11: I took the guy out first. And then the third
- 17:37Speaker 11: grand ball was hit in the hole and I forget
- 17:41Speaker 11: his name, he rove to the ball and kicked it
- 17:45Speaker 11: away from me. Otherwise, yeah, and then the next guy
- 17:51Speaker 11: the two on home when we lost. So two things
- 17:55Speaker 11: happened to me hard guys, robbers hit me out, and
- 18:00Speaker 11: then the third basement. I can't remember his name. I
- 18:04Speaker 11: wish I could pick me. And so after my two
- 18:09Speaker 11: years as I am, I said, I'm silent, and so
- 18:15Speaker 11: I can't. I went Jim Singleton, remember him, I do, Yes,
- 18:24Speaker 11: So we were going to go somewhere. I don't remember
- 18:27Speaker 11: the beach or something, you know. Anyway, but I came
- 18:30Speaker 11: back home to my home at Driell six Larkwood in
- 18:33Speaker 11: San Antonio, and and I had ten fifteen scouts wanted
- 18:43Speaker 11: me to just say I was going to sign and
- 18:46Speaker 11: they would want to be on me.
- 18:47Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 18:49Speaker 11: But the Baltimore Oils scouts De Russo and another guy,
- 18:55Speaker 11: they were nutsious to me. Yes, and so I said, well,
- 19:03Speaker 11: I will talk to you about signing. They of my
- 19:07Speaker 11: house at eleven o'clock at night, and I sat down
- 19:13Speaker 11: with him at two o'clock in the morning. You know, yes,
- 19:17Speaker 11: in the morning I signed with the old hoose.
- 19:18Speaker 4: Do you do you remember what your bonus was?
- 19:21Speaker 11: Yeah? And I was so happy because I got twenty
- 19:26Speaker 11: five thousand dollars bonus, and plus I got a scholarship
- 19:32Speaker 11: which was like fifty a year to finish my education.
- 19:38Speaker 11: And then I got a bonus for every year I
- 19:42Speaker 11: went from a ball to double A, to triple A
- 19:44Speaker 11: to the big rigs, right it was, you know, And
- 19:48Speaker 11: so I signed it.
- 19:49Speaker 1: I mean, twenty five thousand dollars Davy in nineteen sixty two.
- 19:54Speaker 4: That's a pretty good bonus.
- 19:56Speaker 11: Yeah, And you know what I did. I tell you
- 19:58Speaker 11: what I did. Went out and bought myself a new
- 20:02Speaker 11: set of golf clubs. I bought me uh a Pontiac transam,
- 20:09Speaker 11: which I think cost me seven thousand dollars, and then
- 20:13Speaker 11: I paid nine thousand dollars to the government for taxes.
- 20:18Speaker 11: And then I went to the California League and they
- 20:22Speaker 11: paid me five hundred dollars a month for I thought
- 20:28Speaker 11: it died and went to him, but it was only
- 20:32Speaker 11: six months. I three, I thought I died. Went down anyway,
- 20:39Speaker 11: my first year in California three you know, six or something.
- 20:44Speaker 11: And then then that was a ball. Then I went
- 20:48Speaker 11: to double A and I bore it up and bought
- 20:54Speaker 11: Memster triple A.
- 20:55Speaker 1: And then bore it up and the rest is history.
- 20:59Speaker 1: Were you you always going to play even though you
- 21:02Speaker 1: liked basketball? Were you always going to play baseball? Did
- 21:05Speaker 1: you always know that's where your future was.
- 21:08Speaker 11: No doubt about it, you know. I mean I was.
- 21:12Speaker 11: I was six foot one, yes, but you know what
- 21:15Speaker 11: I could do. You could defend stuffed hands.
- 21:21Speaker 4: Nice, nice.
- 21:24Speaker 11: And uh but I knew, you know, everybody was big
- 21:30Speaker 11: in basketball, and I said, man, this was my career
- 21:35Speaker 11: right right.
- 21:37Speaker 1: Well you you obviously chose the right career path. I think, yeah,
- 21:43Speaker 1: I think you did. I think you did. Uh. And
- 21:47Speaker 1: it was it was A and M's loss that they
- 21:50Speaker 1: benched you as a guard obviously in basketball as well.
- 21:53Speaker 11: I mean, I mean when he did that, just to
- 21:57Speaker 11: my heart away because I was got a whole was
- 22:00Speaker 11: I forget the guy to the name? How about?
- 22:02Speaker 1: How about this? Was it doub the lice? Do you
- 22:06Speaker 1: remember Texas tech dub the lice?
- 22:08Speaker 11: That sounds for me. He was the left handed year
- 22:11Speaker 11: and he averaged thirty five points.
- 22:12Speaker 4: I think that's who it was.
- 22:14Speaker 11: And I held him a six points when I was
- 22:16Speaker 11: in there. I mean, I mean I beat the thousand.
- 22:19Speaker 11: I mean I crushed him full court. I was a
- 22:24Speaker 11: good athlete. I touched him full court and I didn't
- 22:27Speaker 11: let him get near the bucket and he went up
- 22:29Speaker 11: to shoot. If I couldn't block I beat the shop. Well,
- 22:34Speaker 11: he put me on the bench and then I didn't
- 22:36Speaker 11: get back in the game.
- 22:38Speaker 15: He did.
- 22:39Speaker 11: I remember those things like it was yesterday.
- 22:43Speaker 4: Yeah I could.
- 22:44Speaker 1: I could tell him, you're still not real happy about it.
- 22:47Speaker 10: You know.
- 22:51Speaker 11: His name was John Rogers. I remember his name, And
- 22:56Speaker 11: I said, I mean and then and then one I
- 23:02Speaker 11: do the first two guys out against Texas, Then I
- 23:06Speaker 11: forget the third basement dope for the ball particular away
- 23:08Speaker 11: from me. We were won that one. I've had enough
- 23:11Speaker 11: to But I love Texas, you know. Let me tell
- 23:18Speaker 11: you something. I went there for two reasons to play
- 23:22Speaker 11: basketball and baseball, and I was there were no women there,
- 23:29Speaker 11: and I figured I could study, and I was, I
- 23:33Speaker 11: wanted to study oceanager feet and uh a veterinary medicine.
- 23:39Speaker 11: So I had a great science background. And then I
- 23:45Speaker 11: signed and so I ended up going back to turning
- 23:48Speaker 11: the university off season in San Antonio and getting the
- 23:52Speaker 11: best game mathematics. But I wanted to be an oceangbot area.
- 23:59Speaker 1: Well, I think I think you I think you did okay,
- 24:02Speaker 1: I did okay, Yeah, I think you did okay. Uh,
- 24:06Speaker 1: this I don't have enough time to read everything that
- 24:10Speaker 1: you've accomplished both as a player and a manager. When
- 24:14Speaker 1: you finished playing, and I'll let you go with this,
- 24:16Speaker 1: when you finished playing, did you know that's what you
- 24:19Speaker 1: wanted to do? Did you want to manage and stay
- 24:22Speaker 1: in the game when you finished playing?
- 24:26Speaker 11: You know what, that's a that's a great question. Uh.
- 24:31Speaker 11: I played for Earl Weaver, yes, and then I really
- 24:36Speaker 11: admire him as a manager. He was really hard on players, yes,
- 24:41Speaker 11: and then, but I learned a lot from him.
- 24:45Speaker 4: You obviously learned a lot from him.
- 24:47Speaker 11: I also learned a lot from Hank Bauer.
- 24:49Speaker 4: He was right, wow, okay, And I learned a lot.
- 24:53Speaker 11: Not what to do right. And so after two years,
- 24:58Speaker 11: you know, and I mean when we professional ball, you,
- 25:05Speaker 11: I just went the When they asked me, I wanted
- 25:11Speaker 11: to manage it, you know, I said sure, and I
- 25:14Speaker 11: want to What was great about it? I got to
- 25:18Speaker 11: manage and I said, oh, great Texas Lake, Oh great.
- 25:23Speaker 11: I'm being here my mother, my father and all my
- 25:27Speaker 11: others and sisters. And the bad news was it was
- 25:30Speaker 11: in Jackson. It was an eleven hour bus by San Antonio.
- 25:38Speaker 11: You know what I mean?
- 25:39Speaker 4: Oh, I know that.
- 25:42Speaker 11: You know, I managed there and we won the You
- 25:46Speaker 11: know Texas League championship and then of course.
- 25:49Speaker 1: You know that's awesome, that is all.
- 25:52Speaker 11: But this is the true stories, you know.
- 25:55Speaker 1: I still it was just that's that is amazing and
- 26:00Speaker 1: and I can't thank you enough. I know people are
- 26:04Speaker 1: are really excited to have your name in the Hall
- 26:07Speaker 1: of Honor.
- 26:08Speaker 4: It is well deserved. And uh, it's great to talk
- 26:12Speaker 4: to you. I really appreciate the time today, Davy.
- 26:16Speaker 11: Well, you give all those actions there my best and
- 26:19Speaker 11: you know what, Uh, just a few of those women there,
- 26:23Speaker 11: they weren't there.
- 26:26Speaker 4: You know. I don't know if I get away with that.
- 26:27Speaker 4: My wife might not appreciate that.
- 26:32Speaker 11: But I mean, you know I've been following there are
- 26:36Speaker 11: more women there than men.
- 26:37Speaker 4: Yes, exactly. So you were just ahead of your time, Davy.
- 26:41Speaker 4: You should you.
- 26:41Speaker 11: I was way ahead of my You know what, I
- 26:45Speaker 11: wouldn't have gone there if there was one there because
- 26:47Speaker 11: I hadn't too much else to do.
- 26:48Speaker 1: Well, and you and you know what you did it.
- 26:52Speaker 4: Hey, thank you so much.
- 26:55Speaker 11: I give them all my blessing. I'm sorry I can't
- 26:58Speaker 11: do it. You know, I'm most eighty years old and
- 27:02Speaker 11: I'm not in that greatest shape, but I yeah, I
- 27:07Speaker 11: think I'm going to live ten more.
- 27:09Speaker 4: Years, but that's awesome.
- 27:11Speaker 11: I can't even hardly walk on my feet, and I
- 27:15Speaker 11: just couldn't take a love.
- 27:17Speaker 4: I think everyone certainly understands that.
- 27:20Speaker 1: And again I think everyone is thrilled to have your
- 27:23Speaker 1: name on the list of a great s Davie.
- 27:27Speaker 11: It's a great honor, and tell him it's a great honor.
- 27:30Speaker 11: I really appreciate and I'm so sorry I didn't make it.
- 27:33Speaker 1: Hope you enjoyed that interview with Davy Johnson, who passed
- 27:38Speaker 1: away this past weekend. What a good guy storyteller you

- 31:15Speaker 15: what it is.
- 31:15Speaker 1: Fellow chef Brooke Williamson going strong. They celebrated her birthday
- 31:23Speaker 1: earlier this month. She documented it on Instagram, so it's official.
- 31:35Speaker 9: I don't know.
- 31:36Speaker 15: Two chefs, Yeah, I.
- 31:39Speaker 1: Yah, not only not only two, not only two chefs.
- 31:43Speaker 1: I'm not sure of her history with with other men.
- 31:50Speaker 1: I don't think it's great. I do know of Bobby's
- 31:54Speaker 1: history with women, and it is not good.
- 31:59Speaker 10: Well, you know, I mean they're just having fun.
- 32:02Speaker 4: Maybe they are, Bobby.
- 32:04Speaker 10: If I know anything about chefs is they're very spirited.
- 32:07Speaker 15: And yeah, it's crazy in a good way, you do.
- 32:12Speaker 1: Bobby will turn sixty one in December. Brooke just celebrated
- 32:18Speaker 1: her forty seventh birthday.
- 32:22Speaker 10: Oh well, she's got time if she needs.
- 32:24Speaker 1: She does, And Bobby has got the money. Yeah, he
- 32:31Speaker 1: has just announced a deal with basically a Canadian entrepreneur
- 32:39Speaker 1: and franchise executive in which he is going to open
- 32:44Speaker 1: a bunch of restaurants in Canada. So he is expanding
- 32:53Speaker 1: the brand as if he needs it.
- 32:56Speaker 10: You know, as I say, he was really hurting for money.
- 33:00Speaker 4: So yeah, yeah, I mean he's got.
- 33:04Speaker 10: Sixty sixty one. It's finally time for him to settle down.
- 33:09Speaker 1: He's settled down about I think four other times, so
- 33:15Speaker 1: he doesn't his history is not great maybe by the way,
- 33:22Speaker 1: By the way, they're.
- 33:24Speaker 4: Kind of working together.
- 33:26Speaker 1: You know, they do all these shows together, and I'm going, so,
- 33:30Speaker 1: what happens, you know, when the inevitable takes place? Because
- 33:36Speaker 1: I'm pretty sure Bobby, pretty sure Bobby's not getting fired
- 33:40Speaker 1: because they.
- 33:41Speaker 10: Could take a page out of all the books of
- 33:44Speaker 10: all those other just hate each other on screen, Ye
- 33:52Speaker 10: make you more money if.
- 33:53Speaker 4: Any I guess. I guess. Well, we'll see it three months.
- 34:01Speaker 15: Yeah, Oh that's generous, thank you. Yeah, you're welcome. Right
- 34:06Speaker 15: before Christmas. Gotta cut ties exactly.
- 34:11Speaker 10: Well, let's talk about another love couple who's destined to
- 34:14Speaker 10: last forever. Taylor Swift and Travis Kelsey may have shared
- 34:18Speaker 10: their engagement news with the world, but their actual wedding
- 34:21Speaker 10: won't be such a public affair.
- 34:23Speaker 15: Chip, I don't know.
- 34:26Speaker 10: They did say they do want to keep it more private.
- 34:28Speaker 10: When they tie the knot, it will definitely be a
- 34:30Speaker 10: private affair and not a spectacle. They both have a
- 34:33Speaker 10: close cercle difference and they respect their privacy.
- 34:38Speaker 4: We'll see.
- 34:39Speaker 10: Apparently she's incredibly happy, which I would hope. So if
- 34:41Speaker 10: you're engaged to some that would be horrible if you
- 34:45Speaker 10: weren't excited about that. The engagement is a cherry on
- 34:48Speaker 10: top of this wonderful error for both Swift and Kelsey,
- 34:53Speaker 10: who recently kicked off his thirteenth NFL season. I'm a
- 34:56Speaker 10: little mad at Travis Kelce right now.
- 34:58Speaker 15: I'm not gonna lie.
- 34:59Speaker 10: I play fantasy foot ball and he took out one
- 35:00Speaker 10: of my players right now, which Travis Kelsey. But don't
- 35:04Speaker 10: come for me, Swifties, all right? I know, I'm my
- 35:07Speaker 10: word is so important to everyone. But she is gearing
- 35:12Speaker 10: up for her highly Taylor Swift is gearing up her
- 35:15Speaker 10: highly anticipated October third release of her forthcoming album, The
- 35:20Speaker 10: Life of a show Girl. What she worked on between
- 35:23Speaker 10: the air tour stops. I don't think this shake ever.
- 35:25Speaker 10: Does she sleep? I don't know.
- 35:27Speaker 13: Man.
- 35:28Speaker 10: As for wedding planning, the couple are taking things one
- 35:30Speaker 10: step at a time.
- 35:32Speaker 15: I mean, they have people that they could definitely have whatever.
- 35:36Speaker 10: I don't know. I feel like Taylor Swift might be
- 35:37Speaker 10: a little bit of like control Godzilla.
- 35:44Speaker 15: I don't think she's a god. Well maybe I don't
- 35:46Speaker 15: know her.
- 35:47Speaker 4: She is gonna be a bride zilla, I promise you.
- 35:51Speaker 1: But but it's gonna Martha can come in and straighten
- 35:55Speaker 1: all that out.
- 35:55Speaker 4: She's already said she'd help.
- 35:58Speaker 15: I would love to see that dynamic.
- 36:00Speaker 10: Yeah, hey, maybe call Megan Markle.
- 36:02Speaker 1: You talk about you talk about a cat fight Martha
- 36:08Speaker 1: and Taylor. Oh my gosh, you'd have to have a
- 36:11Speaker 1: referee for that one.
- 36:13Speaker 10: Look, now that we're talking about this, I would love
- 36:15Speaker 10: to see Martha Stewart and Megan Markle have a conversation
- 36:19Speaker 10: because I feel like that would not be good either.
- 36:21Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 36:22Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't know.
- 36:24Speaker 10: I'm just saying anyway, So guys, they're not gonna, you know,
- 36:29Speaker 10: have a whole reality show over their weddings, so you
- 36:33Speaker 10: can't watch it on TV unfortunately.
- 36:35Speaker 15: Probably not.
- 36:37Speaker 10: You know, what can you do? Well, I didn't even
- 36:41Speaker 10: know that I was going to talk about this, but
- 36:43Speaker 10: what a great you know segue. Prince Harry is giving
- 36:47Speaker 10: back out of his pocket. He donated one point five
- 36:51Speaker 10: million to a leading fundraiser for young people in the
- 36:53Speaker 10: UK to make an impact in the city he's been
- 36:56Speaker 10: He's become closely linked with the Money for Children in Need,
- 37:00Speaker 10: which is also contributing four hundred and six thousand dollars
- 37:04Speaker 10: will support young people's grassroots organizations in Nottingham or Nottingham
- 37:10Speaker 10: Sorry where.
- 37:10Speaker 15: He visited on today? He visited today.
- 37:14Speaker 10: Yeah, it will go towards combating the challenges space by
- 37:18Speaker 10: young people living in areas affected by his violence in
- 37:20Speaker 10: the city. Nottingham is a place that he has frequently
- 37:25Speaker 10: visited over the years, and he wanted to use his
- 37:27Speaker 10: trip to the I didn't even know he was in
- 37:28Speaker 10: the UK.
- 37:29Speaker 4: But here it was unannounced.
- 37:33Speaker 10: I mean, maybe that's just how he wants to do
- 37:35Speaker 10: it from now on. And I don't blame him now
- 37:37Speaker 10: that he don't have protection, you know. The no nation
- 37:41Speaker 10: was announced as he spent time at the Lively Community
- 37:45Speaker 10: Recording studio and caught up with other local groups EPIC Partners,
- 37:49Speaker 10: young people in the area's police and crime commissioners. During
- 37:52Speaker 10: his visit, he did give a speech in which he
- 37:55Speaker 10: stated that he was making a significant investment in the community.
- 37:59Speaker 10: I belie even what you're doing, he said, So he's
- 38:02Speaker 10: still help in the UK. Good for him putting unnecessary
- 38:08Speaker 10: garnishes on her homemade food. I guess he's making I
- 38:13Speaker 10: don't even.
- 38:14Speaker 15: Know what it is.
- 38:15Speaker 10: He's like, I need to get out of here.
- 38:17Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, I'll see you later, take a quick trip.
- 38:23Speaker 4: So I'm very excited.
- 38:25Speaker 1: November sixteenth, Landman second season is being released. We know
- 38:31Speaker 1: that Demi Moore has got a larger role since the
- 38:35Speaker 1: shocking death of founder Monte Miller. Who is John Hammon
- 38:39Speaker 1: the season one finale. Uh Tommy Norris aka belly Bob's
- 38:46Speaker 1: been appointed m Tech's president and tapped more the company
- 38:52Speaker 1: majority stakeholder, to serve alongside him. There's a newfound partnership
- 38:58Speaker 1: spoiler alert, It's not exactly a smooth transition. The dynamic
- 39:04Speaker 1: is certainly interesting. Look, you've got to listen to me,
- 39:09Speaker 1: because you've never done this before. Tell Billy, Bob tells
- 39:13Speaker 1: her and her outlook on that is. How am I
- 39:16Speaker 1: going to learn?
- 39:17Speaker 4: If you do everything? Hmmm.
- 39:20Speaker 1: So you know we're about to We're about to get real.
- 39:26Speaker 1: There's some new people in here too. Sam Elliott is
- 39:29Speaker 1: in the cast, which I just love Sam Elliott, Right,
- 39:32Speaker 1: how can you not?
- 39:33Speaker 15: So I am exciting.
- 39:36Speaker 4: I am counting the days.
- 39:38Speaker 15: Man.
- 39:38Speaker 4: I really like this show.
- 39:40Speaker 1: So not for children, by the way, parents not for children.
- 39:48Speaker 10: I mean this in the nicest way, but I feel
- 39:50Speaker 10: like usually when Billy Bob and I know he's fantastic
- 39:53Speaker 10: in this.
- 39:53Speaker 1: Yes, he was born.
- 39:55Speaker 4: To play the role.
- 39:57Speaker 1: Usually it's not a kid, it's not kid family, You
- 40:02Speaker 1: are correct. Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson have a musical
- 40:10Speaker 1: coming out based on Neil Diamond called Song Sung Blue,
- 40:17Speaker 1: real life Milwaukee area couple Mike and Clear Sardina who
- 40:22Speaker 1: formed the band Lightning and Thunder in tribute to Diamond,
- 40:27Speaker 1: who's now eighty four. The movie meets Jackman and Hudson's characters.
- 40:32Speaker 1: They express a desire for something more out of life.
- 40:36Speaker 1: Claire wishes for a life beyond working as a hairdresser.
- 40:39Speaker 1: Mike desires to do something big, something new. The trailer,
- 40:45Speaker 1: which just dropped, follows the pair's relationship as it develops.
- 40:49Speaker 1: Their performances begin with snippets at Jackman and Hudson performing
- 40:55Speaker 1: Cherry Cherry and Sweet Caroline, written and directed by Craig
- 40:59Speaker 1: brew Your Song Sung Blue is based on a two
- 41:02Speaker 1: thousand and eight documentary of the same name, based on
- 41:09Speaker 1: a true story. To down on their luck, musicians form
- 41:12Speaker 1: a joyous Neil Diamond tribute band, proving it's never too
- 41:18Speaker 1: late to find love and follow your dreams.
- 41:22Speaker 4: I don't know if the.
- 41:22Speaker 1: Movie will be any good, but I guarantee the music
- 41:25Speaker 1: will be good. Well there's that and Hugh Jackson. Hugh
- 41:29Speaker 1: Jackman's a terrific performer, he really is. Yeah, so that's
- 41:35Speaker 1: coming out just in time for Christmas apparently.
- 41:39Speaker 10: Okay, well, there you go, there you go. Well. John
- 41:43Speaker 10: Krasinski and Emily Blunt hit the red carpet and style
- 41:47Speaker 10: to celebrate the highly anticipated premiere of Blunt's newest film,
- 41:51Speaker 10: The Smashing Machine at the Toronto and International Film Festival.
- 41:55Speaker 4: That's the one with the rock in it, I believe,
- 41:58Speaker 4: I believe.
- 41:59Speaker 10: So. She did wear a pair of low rise, slouchy
- 42:04Speaker 10: pin striped black trousers.
- 42:06Speaker 15: Her top was more intricate.
- 42:09Speaker 10: It had a triangle cutout in the center of her chest.
- 42:14Speaker 15: So there was a lot, a lot going on.
- 42:16Speaker 10: I would love to explain this to you, but even

- 42:57Speaker 10: to do in twenty.
- 43:00Speaker 4: Assuming Meryl Streep isn't it?
- 43:02Speaker 11: She is?
- 43:02Speaker 10: Yes, of course, of course how could they not? Could

- 43:34Speaker 10: bit here and there.
- 43:35Speaker 9: You know.
- 43:35Speaker 1: I mentioned the rock because his appearance at the Venice
- 43:40Speaker 1: Film Festival confirmed he's quote in the process of slimming down.
- 43:48Speaker 4: For another different I don't know skinny's the right word. Well, yeah,
- 43:56Speaker 4: he's a big guy.
- 43:57Speaker 15: He was, he wasn't. The michelin man essentially correct.
- 44:03Speaker 1: His latest project that is called Lizard Music will he'll

- 45:00Speaker 1: he and Kristen were privately and amicably separated before the concert.
- 45:07Speaker 1: Andrew's the CEO of Privateer Rum. Kristen, of course caught

- 45:33Speaker 1: Kristin and Andy's moment on the jumbo Tron went viral.
- 45:39Speaker 1: Even lead singer Chris Martin noticed the reaction. Either they're

- 46:26Speaker 10: But Mark ballas previously won on the show three times,
- 46:29Speaker 10: retired from his career as a pro on Dancing with
- 46:32Speaker 10: the Stars after his Mirror Ball Trophy winning run with
- 46:35Speaker 10: Charlie Demilio in season thirty one. To be fair, he
- 46:38Speaker 10: was kind of out of the spotlight for a little
- 46:40Speaker 10: bit before than though, so it was kind of surprising
- 46:42Speaker 10: he came back for that one season anyways, But regardless,
- 46:46Speaker 10: following the conclusion of Dancing with the Stars tour in
- 46:49Speaker 10: March of twenty twenty three, he did formally announce his retirement.
- 46:53Speaker 15: He said, I've done twenty season seasons.

- 47:09Speaker 10: this was like.
- 47:11Speaker 1: A boxer or any other professional athlete.

- 47:17Speaker 15: Yeah, don't ever say it's the end, because you never know.
- 47:20Speaker 17: Wow.
- 47:21Speaker 10: But yeah, he's back, and he's dancing with a girl
- 47:25Speaker 10: named Whitney from the Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, which
- 47:28Speaker 10: I have heard of that, but I doubt you've heard
- 47:30Speaker 10: of much.
- 47:30Speaker 4: No, I have not that Whitney. No, I have not
- 47:33Speaker 4: heard of it.
- 47:35Speaker 1: Another show that's coming back soon, which I like, only

- 47:59Speaker 1: to join the cast. Renee Zellweger is going to join
- 48:05Speaker 1: the cast. Martha No, No, I'm sorry. Camilla White played
- 48:11Speaker 1: by Renee Zellweger gives off Martha Stewart vibes logan Luermann.
- 48:17Speaker 15: I have to say, Martha Stewart is.
- 48:20Speaker 1: A billionaire that shows up. They were delightful, says Steve Martin.
- 48:25Speaker 1: Christoph Waltz, whom I got to know a little bit,
- 48:27Speaker 1: is very wry and intellectual, but.
- 48:29Speaker 4: A sense of humor.
- 48:34Speaker 1: Let's see, Christophe says Selena maybe laugh without even trying
- 48:40Speaker 1: the entire time. He was so genuine and matter of fact.
- 48:43Speaker 1: So I'm not sure when this is coming out. I
- 48:46Speaker 1: think it's soon because they're already doing you know what
- 48:49Speaker 1: I'm saying, pubulist.
