Transcript
- 0:09SPEAKER_00: Good morning and welcome to Ag Squawk AM.
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: Jed Sidwell here, live from Juliet, Illinois.
- 0:15SPEAKER_00: Today on this fine Friday morning, we're going to be talking about fat cattle basis, JD Vance, and maybe a shift in our weather patterns.
- 0:23SPEAKER_00: It's all of that and more here in a bit.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: They were up six dollars and eighty-eight cents at$325.85.
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: Lean hogs down just a hair.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: They were closed at$83.45, down about$33.
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: As we roll on to our grain markets, I'd like to shout out our sponsor, plus$500.
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: We use plus$500 every single day to quote the markets live and trade.
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: We're all registered brokers here at Agble.
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: That's what we use as place orders every single day as a quote the market.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: Deese Corn is at 540 and three quarters.
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: Nove beans are at 13.15 and a half.
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: And Chicago, December, we is at 752 and three quarters.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: We have seen a lot of volatility yesterday, but surprisingly, overnight, everything held relatively consistent.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: Not just a ton of change across the board there.
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: We'll see what happens today.
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: You know, it's the end of the week, but it is right before we go over to a long Labor Day weekend.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: So sometimes we have interesting things, sometimes they're kind of slow days.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: We'll see what happens today.
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: Uh this market seems to keep us on our toes.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: Honor weather discussion for today, a September heat wave that quote unquote Craig Solberg said that will long be remembered is building Tuesday and Wednesday and will bring 15 to 20 degrees higher than normal above what we're normally seeing through the southwestern corn belt and southern plains.
- 2:11SPEAKER_00: The good news though, there's 11 to 15 rainfall outlook that flips to above normal for the plains in western corn belt.
- 2:19SPEAKER_00: Critically important moisture ahead of winter wheat planting, though the forecasts are maybe just a bit scattered and the confidence in those is not high.
- 2:27SPEAKER_00: But hey, we'll take it.
- 2:28SPEAKER_00: We'll see if we can get some storms out of there.
- 2:30SPEAKER_00: That would be great.
- 2:32SPEAKER_00: This is our discussion for today on the grain side.
- 2:35SPEAKER_00: I didn't have maybe a chart to pull up today, but I figured we had to talk about corn after the rally yesterday.
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: You know, we maybe got pushed down lower when we, you know, locked limit low there for a little while.
- 2:47SPEAKER_00: We got went down with that, and then we rode the escalator up with soybeans when we announced that we were going to be, you know, exporting more soybeans to China.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: Because of that, corn got pushed around quite a bit yesterday.
- 3:00SPEAKER_00: But it's cool to see, you know, as we're talking right now, corn's$540.
- 3:05SPEAKER_00: Take advantage of this.
- 3:06SPEAKER_00: Set a price floor, talk to your elevator, sell cash corn that you have on hand.
- 3:11SPEAKER_00: Because, you know, take it when we can get it, right?
- 3:13SPEAKER_00: You know, we there's a possibility we could see six dollar corn.
- 3:16SPEAKER_00: There's a possibility we could see four four fifty corn too.
- 3:20SPEAKER_00: And if you'd like more in-depth analysis or maybe advice on how to trade what you have, call us.

- 3:54SPEAKER_00: This is cash compared to futures.
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: The dotted line there is the futures price.
- 4:01SPEAKER_00: And it's interesting to see 2026.
- 4:04SPEAKER_00: We've kind of seen a bit of a bearish kind of sentiment here recently because of it.
- 4:10SPEAKER_00: We've dipped closer and closer to futures, narrowing that gap.
- 4:16SPEAKER_00: We're gonna have to see what happens there because some are saying cash is gonna pick up.
- 4:22SPEAKER_00: We're gonna get to the end of this kind of front-end supply that we have.
- 4:26SPEAKER_00: There's gonna be fewer cattle out there, the packers gonna be fighting for them harder.
- 4:30SPEAKER_00: Some are saying the packer just doesn't have the money to give.
- 4:34SPEAKER_00: But I encourage you, if you need more cattle discussion in your life, to go back to our Fat Tuesday show with Mike Sands, pop it up here quick.
- 4:43SPEAKER_00: Mike and I had a great discussion talking about everything from the Mexican border to beef in ports to what we're seeing with regards to packing plants and things like that.

- 4:57SPEAKER_00: It's on the premium side on our website.
- 5:00SPEAKER_00: Go ahead and check that out.
- 5:02SPEAKER_00: On major news headlines for today, this one caught my eye this morning.
- 5:07SPEAKER_00: JD Vance says that the Fed should lower interest rates because it would be nice to have some help.
- 5:15SPEAKER_00: In quotes, he said the Federal Reserve should cut interest rates to make homes more affordable.
- 5:20SPEAKER_00: Kevin Walsh, however, President Trump's handpick Fed chair had recently hinted at the possibility of hiking rates to address persistent persistently higher inflation.
- 5:32SPEAKER_00: Vance went on to say we're doing a lot of things to try and keep those interest rates down, but it would be nice to have some help from the Federal Reserve.
- 5:41SPEAKER_00: Well, it seems like there's maybe just a bit of a disconnect there.
- 5:44SPEAKER_00: Hopefully they can maybe get together and come up with a more consistent plan to maybe kind of tell us what they actually want to do.
- 5:51SPEAKER_00: It seems right now we're maybe all over the place there.
- 5:53SPEAKER_00: But hey, the on good news, the economic calendar's short today.
- 5:57SPEAKER_00: There's only one thing on there, the BLS Jobs Report comes out a little bit after I'll post this at 7.30 a.m.
