Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: Hey, guys, it's Joel and I know this isn't what
- 0:04Speaker 1: you're usually used to hearing when you turn on Fake
- 0:06Speaker 1: Doctor's Real Friends, but it's Thanksgiving weekend and the guys
- 0:11Speaker 1: needed a break. Daniel needed some rest, Zach needed a break.
- 0:15Speaker 1: Uh you know, Donald's probably hitting that peloton before the
- 0:18Speaker 1: Turkey comes. We are tired, but we also know that
- 0:24Speaker 1: you guys have missed hearing from us, And to be honest,
- 0:27Speaker 1: we don't like leaving me without an episode. It doesn't
- 0:29Speaker 1: leave a good feeling in our stomach. So this week
- 0:33Speaker 1: I decided to round up my four favorite fan calls,
- 0:36Speaker 1: can dense them into one episode and call it fan appreciation. Guys,
- 0:41Speaker 1: your messages, your beautiful artwork. You know, I don't know
- 0:47Speaker 1: if you guys know this, but you're a part of
- 0:48Speaker 1: the show. Um. When we pitched to advertisers, when we
- 0:52Speaker 1: talk to people at large about the show, it's first
- 0:56Speaker 1: Zack Ocdonald's relationship. That's obviously the first pillar that everyone
- 1:01Speaker 1: looks to. It's our guiding light, is the love between
- 1:04Speaker 1: those two. But the second thing we talk about, it's
- 1:06Speaker 1: always you guys. It's the fun that you bring to
- 1:09Speaker 1: the show that our favorite fan calls. You know, we
- 1:12Speaker 1: look forward to those every week, and so this week
- 1:15Speaker 1: we're gonna honor you, guys, honor the fans, the people
- 1:18Speaker 1: we are thankful for. UM. So yeah, I'm really looking
- 1:22Speaker 1: forward to this. I picked some calls, and the funny
- 1:26Speaker 1: thing I noticed about the calls is that all of
- 1:28Speaker 1: them have like special guests on. So it's not just
- 1:34Speaker 1: you know, Bill, who we love, we have his first
- 1:36Speaker 1: call on here, but you know, also Shay, there's something
- 1:39Speaker 1: special in those episodes that goes beyond just our typical episodes.
- 1:44Speaker 1: When we have a guest on, we're getting other stories,
- 1:48Speaker 1: we're getting new perspectives. We always learn a little something
- 1:51Speaker 1: about ourselves. And when you add the fan call to that,
- 1:53Speaker 1: it's chaos. We never know what's going to happen. And
- 1:56Speaker 1: it's turned out some of our very most best, our
- 2:00Speaker 1: most memorable experiences. So I collected them here to share
- 2:05Speaker 1: with you. I hope you guys enjoy and without further
- 2:07Speaker 1: ado five six, seven eight, he's sorry about show we
- 2:17Speaker 1: made nar story. The first fan call I chose came
- 2:42Speaker 1: from Mark. Now this is all the way back in
- 2:45Speaker 1: season one, episode three, and what I loved about Mark's
- 2:48Speaker 1: call was that he got into the idea of what
- 2:51Speaker 1: guy love meant to a lot of straight guys. And
- 2:54Speaker 1: it's extra fund because Bill is here, and he called
- 2:56Speaker 1: Mark an evil villain for having a cat in his lap. Delightful,
- 3:01Speaker 1: enjoyed this relic. Bill, we take a caller here on
- 3:04Speaker 1: on our show, and it looks like, by the way,
- 3:07Speaker 1: I just thought it was a super villain because it
- 3:09Speaker 1: is as as a as a gentleman. That is a cat.
- 3:15Speaker 1: For you guys listening at home, his picture came up
- 3:18Speaker 1: on Zoom and he's petting a cat, like like the
- 3:20Speaker 1: evil genes you all are enjoying talking about your show. Well,
- 3:26Speaker 1: I have bad news, all right, Joel, go ahead and
- 3:30Speaker 1: introduce him. Yes, Hi, Mark, thanks so much for joining us.
- 3:34Speaker 1: Hi everyone, how are you? Can you hear me? Yes,
- 3:37Speaker 1: we can here. You just find Marks. My first ever
- 3:39Speaker 1: Zoom meeting. I've never done this. I'm glad it's working.
- 3:41Speaker 1: I'm glad you're here. Well, Mark, you picked a good
- 3:44Speaker 1: episode to beyond because we have the creator of the
- 3:48Speaker 1: whole show, Bill Lawrence. So if you have a question
- 3:51Speaker 1: for any of us, go ahead, Well, Hellogan Lawrence, and
- 3:54Speaker 1: hello all of you. That's awesome. It's so glad, where
- 3:58Speaker 1: do you live. By the way, I'm on the northwest
- 4:01Speaker 1: side of Chicago up and uh Avandale Old Irving Park area.
- 4:05Speaker 1: Shout to stand up. We're just talking about Neil Flynn.
- 4:07Speaker 1: That's where that's the area of the world that he
- 4:09Speaker 1: is from, my friend, but not your specific area. But
- 4:14Speaker 1: he's from Chicago. But he was not like downstairs right now.
- 4:17Speaker 1: No, no no, no, no, I mean he could be alright ahead,
- 4:19Speaker 1: Mark all right. Even from the earliest episodes, Scrubs wasn't
- 4:23Speaker 1: afraid to raise social issues and took a clear stance
- 4:26Speaker 1: that I thought prioritized like well being of people over
- 4:30Speaker 1: the economics and insurance bureaucracy. I felt like this helped
- 4:33Speaker 1: a lot of young people, myself included, start thinking about
- 4:36Speaker 1: the human side of health care and healthcare like as
- 4:38Speaker 1: a human right for the first time and sort of
- 4:40Speaker 1: some of those more serious issues. So I was just
- 4:43Speaker 1: wondering if you guys were called any specific moments from
- 4:46Speaker 1: production episodes or moments on set that might have changed
- 4:48Speaker 1: your influence to the way you guys view the sort
- 4:51Speaker 1: of work done by your characters, or just sort of
- 4:53Speaker 1: the health care system as all that. Don And and
- 4:57Speaker 1: Zach answer this for the show. I will tell you
- 5:02Speaker 1: I've been thinking about this a lot lately, Mark, because
- 5:05Speaker 1: the real j D and my pal we were both
- 5:08Speaker 1: kind of screw ups with a lot with very little
- 5:10Speaker 1: direction as young guys. And I remember asking him what
- 5:13Speaker 1: the hell he was doing going back to pre med,
- 5:16Speaker 1: and he talked about wanting to be of service, you know,
- 5:19Speaker 1: and his viewpoint right now, you know, not to make
- 5:23Speaker 1: this two point yet, um. I faced time with him
- 5:26Speaker 1: every night when he gets off work because he's running
- 5:28Speaker 1: the COVID command center, he's running the whole i CU
- 5:30Speaker 1: for this hospital, as we spoke about, and it helps
- 5:32Speaker 1: him decompress and not take that stuff into his family.
- 5:36Speaker 1: And he as a caregiver cares so much more about
- 5:40Speaker 1: the humanistic side than any any of this other bullshit.
- 5:43Speaker 1: And he instilled that upon me, and he said we
- 5:46Speaker 1: could steal all of his stories, but we could never
- 5:49Speaker 1: have a callousness. He said, he was only interested in
- 5:53Speaker 1: me stealing his stories and his life and his name.
- 5:57Speaker 1: If the undercurrent of the show was that it was
- 6:01Speaker 1: about a bunch of people flaws and all that cared
- 6:04Speaker 1: most about helping and taking care of other people. So
- 6:07Speaker 1: that was part of the series, and I'll we have
- 6:09Speaker 1: the rest to Donald and Zach. That's cool that you asked,
- 6:12Speaker 1: because I think about him every day. He's out there
- 6:14Speaker 1: doing stuff much more important of course, and and and
- 6:17Speaker 1: and it's it's the perfect question for this era, Mark
- 6:19Speaker 1: because these these these medical professionals and everyone who's working
- 6:23Speaker 1: in the industry, whether you're a doctor, a nurse, or
- 6:27Speaker 1: a janitor, a medic, everyone who's in this environment is
- 6:31Speaker 1: uh has as as the world is finally seeing in
- 6:35Speaker 1: the spotlight how heroic these people are. And I think
- 6:39Speaker 1: I always felt when we were making this show that
- 6:41Speaker 1: Bill was really shining a light on how dedicated these
- 6:45Speaker 1: these folks were and how they had to deal with
- 6:47Speaker 1: life and death every single day. One thing that released
- 6:49Speaker 1: stood out for me when you when you asked your
- 6:51Speaker 1: question was the I remember learning that the nurses really
- 6:55Speaker 1: run the show. Um. I hadn't spent much time in
- 6:57Speaker 1: a hospital when we started making Scrubs, and I learned
- 7:02Speaker 1: that the doctors can't do it without the nurses. And
- 7:06Speaker 1: the nurses are the ones who are on the front lines,
- 7:09Speaker 1: and the doctors have to be rotating and they can't
- 7:11Speaker 1: do anything without the help of amazing nurses. It wasn't
- 7:14Speaker 1: until I spent more time in hospitals with my both
- 7:17Speaker 1: my father and my sister getting sick that I really
- 7:20Speaker 1: I And this was after Scrubbs, but I remember being like, Wow,
- 7:23Speaker 1: this is everything we were doing is so real. I'm
- 7:25Speaker 1: witnessing it on the front lines. That we see that
- 7:27Speaker 1: doctor like every now and then, But man, these nurses
- 7:30Speaker 1: and when we have a good one, it is such
- 7:32Speaker 1: a difference, and and and make puts a smile on
- 7:34Speaker 1: my sick father's face. And when we have one that's
- 7:37Speaker 1: a little bit aloof it just drives you crazy. And
- 7:40Speaker 1: I just really, um, it really came home to me
- 7:43Speaker 1: everything we have been doing on the show, how crucial
- 7:46Speaker 1: and how important of the people on the front lines,
- 7:48Speaker 1: particularly in this anecdote I'm telling the nursing staff of
- 7:52Speaker 1: of hospitals were to me. The one thing that really
- 7:54Speaker 1: sticks out for me is to piggyback on what Bill said,
- 7:58Speaker 1: is you know, for some hospitals, if you don't have insurance,
- 8:02Speaker 1: you can't get treated. And the one thing that Scrubs
- 8:06Speaker 1: did which I thought was amazing was we had a
- 8:08Speaker 1: bunch of the doctors on the show, we're a bunch
- 8:11Speaker 1: of rule breakers. Benders, especially when it came to something
- 8:14Speaker 1: like that, you know what I mean. That was always
- 8:17Speaker 1: special for me because you know, a lot of people
- 8:20Speaker 1: don't have great insurance, especially right now, a lot of
- 8:25Speaker 1: people don't have it and any insurance at all, and
- 8:28Speaker 1: Test any insurance at all, thank you, Zach. And Test
- 8:31Speaker 1: costs a lot of money, you know what I mean.
- 8:33Speaker 1: And if there are rule breakers and rule benders out
- 8:36Speaker 1: there that can save lives in that way, I'm I'm
- 8:40Speaker 1: all for that, you know what I mean. And I
- 8:41Speaker 1: love that we had people on the show like Dr Cox.
- 8:44Speaker 1: When Kelsel is trying to get this person out of
- 8:47Speaker 1: the hospital, Cox comes up with so many different ways
- 8:50Speaker 1: to get to get this guy in bed, and I
- 8:51Speaker 1: thought that was just amazing. And Mark the we obsessed
- 8:55Speaker 1: so much about your question. All in terms of the
- 8:58Speaker 1: character Dr Kelso as an episode you guys might remember,
- 9:02Speaker 1: I remember the song and the scenes that because the
- 9:06Speaker 1: real j D he runs a hospital now and he's
- 9:08Speaker 1: like and you're forced with having to make these decisions
- 9:11Speaker 1: for the greater good. And there's an episode in which
- 9:13Speaker 1: Dr Kelso, you know, it has to punt a guy
- 9:17Speaker 1: you know, from treatment that they don't have insurance to
- 9:20Speaker 1: have money in an effort to still build other stuff
- 9:23Speaker 1: and to have money to save other people. And we
- 9:26Speaker 1: made this joke about how every time Dr Kelso's foot
- 9:30Speaker 1: hits the bottom of the stairs when he leaves the hospital,
- 9:33Speaker 1: he starts whistling as if the day doesn't even affect him.
- 9:36Speaker 1: And at the end of that episode, even he because
- 9:38Speaker 1: he knew he was directly responsible for his guy not
- 9:41Speaker 1: getting care, his foot hits and he he has a
- 9:43Speaker 1: moment you can see it's really hard for him to
- 9:45Speaker 1: start whistling again. There's a Citizen Cope song called Sideways playing,
- 9:49Speaker 1: and so we just wanted to make sure that the
- 9:52Speaker 1: people weren't the villains and that the system was So yeah,
- 9:55Speaker 1: I'm really grateful that you noticed that and asked about it. Awesome.
- 9:57Speaker 1: Thank you guys for giving such a detailed, great sponses. Uh.
- 10:01Speaker 1: I think it just speaks to how much you guys
- 10:04Speaker 1: feel for this show and put into this show. It
- 10:05Speaker 1: really comes across and I think that's why I've been
- 10:07Speaker 1: such a big fan for so long. So thank you,
- 10:09Speaker 1: Thank you, Mark, Thanks so much for asking your question.
- 10:12Speaker 1: Do you want to ask another question? Oh? Sure, all right,
- 10:15Speaker 1: you get one more. All right. So this episode episode three, uh,
- 10:21Speaker 1: and the show as a whole, I think has a
- 10:22Speaker 1: lot of moments that exemplify really healthy, often sensitive male relationships.
- 10:29Speaker 1: Both your guys is Turk and j D Uh and
- 10:32Speaker 1: j D and Dr Cox and other ones. And I
- 10:34Speaker 1: was just wondering if you guys could maybe talk a
- 10:36Speaker 1: little bit about what was important to you guys to
- 10:39Speaker 1: have positive sort of emotional moments between rows and how
- 10:43Speaker 1: that might have affected your real life friendship. I think
- 10:46Speaker 1: that's a great question. I'm glad you asked it with
- 10:48Speaker 1: Bill on the show because for me, I really felt
- 10:51Speaker 1: in a positive way. Granted we we joked about it
- 10:54Speaker 1: a lot, but I thought in a positive way we
- 10:55Speaker 1: were showing you know, when we were growing up. I
- 10:58Speaker 1: mean when Donald. I'm Bill's a smidgen older than us,
- 11:01Speaker 1: but when Donald and I were growing up, you know,
- 11:03Speaker 1: anything you did that was a motive towards guy, you
- 11:07Speaker 1: were called gay and it was derogatory and it was negative,
- 11:10Speaker 1: and it was just an adjective in high school and
- 11:12Speaker 1: junior high and middle school and everything was and I
- 11:15Speaker 1: always as someone who was it's not no surprise I'm
- 11:18Speaker 1: similar in a lot of ways to j D. I
- 11:20Speaker 1: always felt like, but this is who who I am.
- 11:23Speaker 1: I am a guy who is a hugger and who's
- 11:26Speaker 1: emotional and where's his heart in his sleeve and loves musicals,
- 11:29Speaker 1: who happens to be a heterosexual. And I felt like
- 11:32Speaker 1: Bill wrote a character a friendship that was like, well,
- 11:35Speaker 1: we're gonna show that that's okay to men in a way,
- 11:39Speaker 1: because I I've noticed it in my life, you know
- 11:41Speaker 1: the fact that Donald and I would hug and stuff.
- 11:43Speaker 1: You know, I did a Broadway show and and Scrubs
- 11:46Speaker 1: fans would come to the to the stage door and
- 11:48Speaker 1: they'd be like, j D, can I have a hug?
- 11:50Speaker 1: And I would always kind of laugh. It was almost
- 11:51Speaker 1: like the show was giving a certain community of men
- 11:56Speaker 1: telling them that it was okay too. You're not gonna
- 11:59Speaker 1: no matter what you're actuality is, who cares. It's not
- 12:01Speaker 1: gonna be threatened by being like g D, just being
- 12:04Speaker 1: who you truly are. And I I always thought that
- 12:08Speaker 1: that was was a really positive thing that that Bill
- 12:11Speaker 1: put out there. Yeah. I love that. I love the
- 12:13Speaker 1: fact that the two of them were so comfortable around
- 12:16Speaker 1: each other that they could be like brothers and lie
- 12:18Speaker 1: in the same bed in their underwear and it not
- 12:22Speaker 1: be a thing for them, you know what I mean?
- 12:24Speaker 1: I I like that and I think that storyline definitely
- 12:29Speaker 1: transferred into my real life with Zach, you know what
- 12:31Speaker 1: I mean, Like, I feel like my comfortability about being
- 12:36Speaker 1: around other men, uh and and not being afraid to
- 12:41Speaker 1: be who I am and except who they are is
- 12:45Speaker 1: all because of Scrubs, you know what I mean. I
- 12:47Speaker 1: I've played best friends in other projects, and you know,
- 12:52Speaker 1: you play the tough guy, etcetera, etcetera. But with these guys,
- 12:56Speaker 1: none of that stuff mattered. What mattered was that they
- 12:59Speaker 1: loved each other at the to to day, and I
- 13:01Speaker 1: I cherished the fact that I can have friendships with
- 13:04Speaker 1: men and I can say to them I love you
- 13:07Speaker 1: and not be looked at as a bad thing. It's
- 13:11Speaker 1: a weird topic for me because you know, j D
- 13:15Speaker 1: was based on real j D. Donald was based on doctor.
- 13:17Speaker 1: But the truth is with these two characters anyways, I
- 13:20Speaker 1: always joked around that I was kind of wrestling with
- 13:22Speaker 1: both sides of myself because I am I played sports
- 13:28Speaker 1: and was the high school jockey type guy that I
- 13:32Speaker 1: was afraid of this stuff. And on the other side,
- 13:34Speaker 1: I do Zach and I share a love of Broadway musicals.
- 13:39Speaker 1: Robin French, go Bill VOI pertitude alright whatever and uh
- 13:47Speaker 1: the watch digression we'll sing lame is in later episodes.
- 13:54Speaker 1: I was always wrestling as a young man with you
- 13:58Speaker 1: know which which lane I it in, and wishing that
- 14:02Speaker 1: it would be easier just to not have to pick
- 14:05Speaker 1: a lane. And then these guys, look, the truth is
- 14:09Speaker 1: whatever you create a relationship as a writer, it's yours
- 14:12Speaker 1: for a second, and then the actors, if they're great,
- 14:15Speaker 1: they wrestle ownership from you. And what starts out is
- 14:19Speaker 1: eight twenty years, you know, quickly in this show became
- 14:22Speaker 1: fifty fifty mine in theirs and then became all theirs
- 14:26Speaker 1: in a way that I would write moments that weren't
- 14:29Speaker 1: supposed to be romance moments, you know, like whether it
- 14:32Speaker 1: was them wanting to hug each other, you know at
- 14:35Speaker 1: the end, and then when I look in the dailies,
- 14:37Speaker 1: they're rubbing their faces and heads against like that's that's
- 14:41Speaker 1: my favor. My favorite gift is my favorite gift whatever.
- 14:50Speaker 1: People people are always like, you're using gifts of yourself.
- 14:53Speaker 1: I'm like, yeah, that one I do because it looks
- 14:55Speaker 1: like you wanted to smell each other. Dude, that really
- 14:58Speaker 1: looks like I think one of you ad lived in
- 15:00Speaker 1: that you smell like an athlete and in a way
- 15:03Speaker 1: that you're just so happy. So my point is I
- 15:07Speaker 1: was doing it as an intellectual exercise, and these guys
- 15:10Speaker 1: made it something more. And it's all about their You
- 15:12Speaker 1: get lucky on a TV show when what you're watching
- 15:15Speaker 1: feels even more real because the undercurrent of it, their
- 15:18Speaker 1: intense friendship is reel. You know. I also like that
- 15:22Speaker 1: when we meet people nowadays, they're so eager to talk
- 15:26Speaker 1: about their best friend and how much they love their
- 15:28Speaker 1: best friend, you know what I mean, And that that
- 15:31Speaker 1: that makes me feel great. You know, he's the brown
- 15:33Speaker 1: bear to my vanilla bear, or you know what I mean.
- 15:36Speaker 1: I honestly think it gave us a certain community of
- 15:40Speaker 1: men who watched the show and we're open to it,
- 15:43Speaker 1: sort of permission to to to be more true to
- 15:46Speaker 1: who they were as Mark if you want to, if
- 15:49Speaker 1: you want to indulge my version of googling my own
- 15:51Speaker 1: name is all occasionally go looking at all these wedding
- 15:54Speaker 1: videos where the best man sings guy love to the groom.
- 15:57Speaker 1: They're fantastic there's like a thousand of them out there,
- 16:00Speaker 1: and it always starts with a fake set up. He's like,
- 16:03Speaker 1: you know, I was trying to think of wet to
- 16:04Speaker 1: toast and what to blah ba blah, than I thought
- 16:06Speaker 1: it's probably better to do in song. There it days
- 16:08Speaker 1: the facts and then the groom. The groom always stands
- 16:11Speaker 1: up with a microphone too, because they've rehearsed it twenty times.
- 16:14Speaker 1: And I'm at home by myself, just going like this plouding.
- 16:19Speaker 1: I love it, all right, Mark, thank you for two
- 16:21Speaker 1: awesome questions. Thanks man, alright, Mark, Hey, stay safe, buddy,
- 16:28Speaker 1: be healthy. We will be right back after someone who
- 16:33Speaker 1: talks to you, and we are back. Yeah, wasn't that
- 16:44Speaker 1: so cute? Oh my god, I want to die adorable.
- 16:49Speaker 1: Um okay, so now we're gonna skip all the way
- 16:53Speaker 1: ahead to three oh five. This was one of my
- 16:56Speaker 1: favorite kists. Kate came on and blew all of y'all away.
- 17:01Speaker 1: I have literally never received as many Twitter notifications, Instagram
- 17:06Speaker 1: d ms asking about Kate and her story. I chose
- 17:10Speaker 1: Kate because she wrote to me and said that she
- 17:12Speaker 1: was breastfeeding and that the latching situation was as we
- 17:16Speaker 1: described on the show, and so I thought it would
- 17:18Speaker 1: be fun to like maybe trip up the guys with,
- 17:20Speaker 1: you know, an actual breastfeeding mom. But came on and
- 17:24Speaker 1: blew us all away, and then I had had great
- 17:25Speaker 1: conversation with Casey oh man. I really enjoyed this conversation. So,
- 17:30Speaker 1: without further ado, here's Kate and we're bad mom Donald
- 17:43Speaker 1: phase on and we just connected to boys. She's pulling
- 17:49Speaker 1: a Sara chalk you. You're muted now, very Sarah chalk ESQ.
- 17:55Speaker 1: Now one step away from dropping your iPad on the tub. No, no, no,
- 18:00Speaker 1: can't hit the microphone on the bottom left. The microphone
- 18:02Speaker 1: on the bottom left. Hey, you see that red might
- 18:03Speaker 1: change your yea. Chell I warned you in my email
- 18:10Speaker 1: that I'm kind of like a real life Elliott, and
- 18:12Speaker 1: I just knew this would happen. I knew this would happen.
- 18:16Speaker 1: I'm gonna say something. It looked like you gave up
- 18:19Speaker 1: even before we said I'm gonna do fake doctors anymore.
- 18:25Speaker 1: I don't even want to do fake doctors. I don't
- 18:28Speaker 1: want to be on the show anyway. It's very hard
- 18:30Speaker 1: to get on this show. I don't think you give
- 18:32Speaker 1: up if your MIC's on mute just for a second.
- 18:33Speaker 1: I think you re right, yoel you you should focus. Yeah,
- 18:38Speaker 1: you shift through a lot of people that want to
- 18:41Speaker 1: be on this program. I am. I am so prepared.
- 18:45Speaker 1: I mean I have like a hair band, a mask
- 18:47Speaker 1: of Martini, a water bottle. This isn't, this is this isn't.
- 18:51Speaker 1: Let's make a deal. You're not going to ke those things.
- 18:54Speaker 1: I mean, I'm I'm currently hiding from my family like
- 18:57Speaker 1: you Donald and like I have been sitting here like
- 19:00Speaker 1: you're not going to funk this up. Listen, no, listen
- 19:06Speaker 1: in all seriousness, Kate, there's no wrong answer. All right,
- 19:09Speaker 1: if you say anything horrible, it'll be amazing. People love it.
- 19:15Speaker 1: I think I think. Okay, so you like to go
- 19:17Speaker 1: by Zelinsky. Oh well, my my, sometimes when I'm ad
- 19:20Speaker 1: at myself, I call myself by my maiden name, which
- 19:23Speaker 1: is Riley. Um. So that's why I stuttered, because I
- 19:26Speaker 1: usually when I'm like Riley. You know, that's like very ELLIOTTSK,
- 19:32Speaker 1: very moving to be very elliotsk. That was that was
- 19:34Speaker 1: a lot like Elliot. Seriously, Yeah, it's it's it's real.
- 19:38Speaker 1: It's it's not a great way to go through life. Guys. Well,
- 19:43Speaker 1: welcome to the program. It's called Fake Doctor's Real Friends.
- 19:46Speaker 1: We have the legendary writer and uh and personality. What
- 19:50Speaker 1: are you besides the writer Shaw, You're a philanthropist. You're
- 19:54Speaker 1: a writer, You're a philanthropist. You're a Twitter superstar. Uh, writer, philanthropist, writer, philanthropist. First,
- 20:05Speaker 1: then Twitter Superstar has only fans if you're interested, like
- 20:10Speaker 1: you's only fans, all right, Donald, have you ever been
- 20:13Speaker 1: on an only fans? I don't think we're allowed on them. No,
- 20:15Speaker 1: I'm not allowed on the only fans with I don't
- 20:17Speaker 1: think our women. I don't think our women would support. Well,
- 20:20Speaker 1: you're paying money. I wonder. I wonder, I really do
- 20:24Speaker 1: wonder what only fans is like, because it can't just
- 20:27Speaker 1: be somebody on only fans just sitting there naked like
- 20:31Speaker 1: this is what I do. Well. Isn't it just like
- 20:33Speaker 1: I don't know Joel's do you know what it is?
- 20:35Speaker 1: Isn't it just like a strip club but someone's hose a.
- 20:37Speaker 1: You gotta go to Joel because you can. To me,
- 20:39Speaker 1: I've lived with a lot of sex workers over the year, camboys,
- 20:42Speaker 1: girls and such. Let's talk about that. Sorry wait, sorry,
- 20:50Speaker 1: you can mute your mic again. Not too. Well, you
- 20:52Speaker 1: live with sex Joel, y'all know nothing about Wow, that
- 20:59Speaker 1: sounds like a good podcast. Uh yeah, one day I'll
- 21:02Speaker 1: talk about my college days. But yeah, the kids, you know,
- 21:06Speaker 1: they enjoy it. They love they love the only fans
- 21:09Speaker 1: and yeah, it's just it's just amateur porn essentially. But
- 21:12Speaker 1: the cool thing about only fans you're paying the sex
- 21:15Speaker 1: worker directly as opposed to a large company or getting
- 21:18Speaker 1: it for free. So the cam sorry to interrupted the
- 21:22Speaker 1: cam things they take a giant cut, whereas this goes
- 21:24Speaker 1: directly to the person and they can control how much
- 21:27Speaker 1: it charges and all of that stuff. So there's some
- 21:30Speaker 1: issues with the app that I'm not, you know, knowledgeable
- 21:32Speaker 1: enough to talk about it. But do you think that
- 21:34Speaker 1: don make like two four millions very controversially million, not
- 21:42Speaker 1: twenty four million? How much did she make something like
- 21:46Speaker 1: twenty something millions? Because she's two millions. Then she said
- 21:49Speaker 1: she wasn't gonna do anything newde and everyone was like, well,
- 21:52Speaker 1: then when do we all pay for And then she
- 21:53Speaker 1: was like right, pretty much pretty much, Hi, Kate, joke, sorry,
- 22:03Speaker 1: go ahead. Were well, I don't know if you picked
- 22:06Speaker 1: me because of my signs or because of my situation
- 22:10Speaker 1: or we give ne situations and then signed because I
- 22:13Speaker 1: really got it. Yeah, okay, well um Zack, I I
- 22:18Speaker 1: am so touched at how protective you are of we
- 22:22Speaker 1: nursing mothers who are fans of the show, because you know,
- 22:27Speaker 1: people will tell you even in like which like you know,
- 22:30Speaker 1: way to go league and everything, but they'll tell you,
- 22:34Speaker 1: you know, breastfeeding is the thing in the world, and
- 22:37Speaker 1: it's like, Nope, it's hard. It's really hard for a
- 22:39Speaker 1: lot of us. Not everyone can do it, and we
- 22:41Speaker 1: just have to feed our babies. And the latch thing
- 22:44Speaker 1: is real, the open wound nipples thing is real, and
- 22:48Speaker 1: it's you're sobbing at five in the morning trying to
- 22:51Speaker 1: give your child nourishment. And so I don't listen to
- 22:54Speaker 1: your podcast while nursing because of Donald. But I just
- 23:00Speaker 1: wanted to ask Joel. I mean I listened every week.
- 23:03Speaker 1: I'm an enormous fan of the podcast in the show.
- 23:09Speaker 1: But no, no, no, because I want I want the
- 23:11Speaker 1: Oprah voice Donald, I do. I just don't want to
- 23:14Speaker 1: have her cake and eat it too, don't. She wants
- 23:17Speaker 1: the Opra voice. She just doesn't want it while she's
- 23:20Speaker 1: dealing with that tricky latch. Here's what you need, Here's
- 23:23Speaker 1: what you don't know, okate, Zach was being facetious when
- 23:26Speaker 1: he talked about the latch and everything like that. He
- 23:30Speaker 1: doesn't care about your nipples. He doesn't care I care
- 23:33Speaker 1: about kates areolas. And let me tell you something. I
- 23:35Speaker 1: had so many people tell me that that they listened
- 23:38Speaker 1: while breastfeeding, and I thought it was very charming. And
- 23:41Speaker 1: of course if I was breastfeeding, I would get lost
- 23:44Speaker 1: in a good podcast too. It's perfect, you can't and
- 23:48Speaker 1: it's also COVID, so it's not like I get an
- 23:50Speaker 1: escape by like being like I'm going to go to
- 23:52Speaker 1: a movie, you know, and sleep in a movie theater.
- 23:54Speaker 1: There's nothing to do. I'm stuck at home. I'm on
- 23:56Speaker 1: the couch, I'm nursing, I'm pumping, I'm holding my mama's boy,
- 24:01Speaker 1: baby boy, and so there's not a lot to do.
- 24:03Speaker 1: But I listened to the podcast in my car because
- 24:06Speaker 1: I still do my family's grocery shopping. And I listened
- 24:08Speaker 1: in my car, and I sit in the grocery store
- 24:11Speaker 1: parking lot with the drive through coffee for like ten
- 24:14Speaker 1: or fifteen extra minutes. And then I get home and
- 24:16Speaker 1: I'm like the lines were so long because I'm just
- 24:21Speaker 1: hiding from my So you guys are my escape, and
- 24:23Speaker 1: that's what I told you. Well, thank you. You have
- 24:25Speaker 1: a decision to make things because I will make a
- 24:28Speaker 1: promise to you right now that I won't yell anymore,
- 24:30Speaker 1: so you can listen while you're breastfeeding. No, don't do that.
- 24:34Speaker 1: I would, I would never. I cannot take I would
- 24:37Speaker 1: give you that, or I will give you the parking lot?
- 24:39Speaker 1: Which one? Do you know? I Because if I took
- 24:44Speaker 1: away the Oprah introductions from all future guests, I would
- 24:47Speaker 1: I would hate myself. I would be a lot of
- 24:50Speaker 1: people only listen to the showing to hear Donald's Opra voice.
- 24:52Speaker 1: Kate Zelinsky, fuck them. It's all about you, Kate, and
- 24:58Speaker 1: only you. You can think this is the first thing
- 25:01Speaker 1: that's been about only me since myke Toildler's school shut
- 25:05Speaker 1: down and my job ended with in March, Like this
- 25:09Speaker 1: is the thing that is, this is the only thing
- 25:11Speaker 1: that's been only me. Kate, you sound like my wife.
- 25:13Speaker 1: Hold on, I'm gonna go get her. Don't go get
- 25:15Speaker 1: your wife. Why are you getting her? Oh? Jesus, what
- 25:19Speaker 1: is oh? Because I know why? Because she's fixing the
- 25:23Speaker 1: rant about Donald not helping enough. And I bet he
- 25:27Speaker 1: thinks this is going to be some couples counseling if
- 25:29Speaker 1: he lets her rants on the show. These people didn't
- 25:32Speaker 1: tune in for fucking Donald's couples counseling. Tuned in for
- 25:36Speaker 1: a Scrubs podcast. Um, Kate, where do you live? I
- 25:40Speaker 1: live in Richmond, Virginia. Um, but I'm currently the reason
- 25:44Speaker 1: I have like this time to do it. We're currently
- 25:46Speaker 1: visiting my parents at their um lake house in North Carolina.
- 25:52Speaker 1: That's got to be beautiful a lake house. It's wonderful.
- 25:55Speaker 1: It's an insane, beautiful welcoming house on a beautiful lake.
- 25:59Speaker 1: It's so used to get away. Okay, we're going to
- 26:02Speaker 1: jump ahead to fix your life real quick. Here's my wife. Uh,
- 26:09Speaker 1: this is case this is Casey Cobb. This is Kate's Zelenski.
- 26:14Speaker 1: Ok Casey, your hair looks beautiful today. Thanks. I got
- 26:18Speaker 1: it colored very nice, Kate. Kate was just sharing how
- 26:22Speaker 1: hard it is to be a mom and to have
- 26:25Speaker 1: every single one of your minutes of your day go
- 26:28Speaker 1: to taking care of your children and your family. And
- 26:31Speaker 1: Donald said, let me go get my wife, so maybe
- 26:34Speaker 1: you can speak to to to how you're coping and
- 26:37Speaker 1: how you're how you're making that work, because I know
- 26:39Speaker 1: for a fact Donald is necessarily pulling his weight. Yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 26:46Speaker 1: Um well, I have to be honest, Kate. Today I
- 26:50Speaker 1: left and I went and got my hair done for you,
- 26:53Speaker 1: because you know what, I had grays all the way
- 26:56Speaker 1: down to my ears, and you know what, I knew
- 26:59Speaker 1: that this the only thing I could do for myself. Granted,
- 27:03Speaker 1: I came home and there was shit everywhere, and the
- 27:08Speaker 1: kids ate donuts on their lunch break and you know,
- 27:13Speaker 1: complete shit show, I'm sure, but my night. My husband
- 27:17Speaker 1: told me yesterday I have white trash roots because that
- 27:20Speaker 1: my hair hasn't been colored since February. White trash roots.
- 27:22Speaker 1: And I said, Honey, that's so lovely of you to
- 27:24Speaker 1: tell your nursing wife, mother of two, full time everything.
- 27:29Speaker 1: Oh my god, you're nursing. Oh my god, Casey, you
- 27:32Speaker 1: told me once that you were like, because Kate just
- 27:34Speaker 1: told a story about how sometimes she listened to the
- 27:37Speaker 1: podcast and stays extra long in the supermarket parking lot,
- 27:40Speaker 1: And you told me a story once where you were like,
- 27:42Speaker 1: I wanted to go with Chick fil A, but I
- 27:44Speaker 1: chose a Chick fil A like five minutes away because
- 27:46Speaker 1: I need to bring it was. It was literally the
- 27:51Speaker 1: day that they announced that schools were closing. And we
- 27:53Speaker 1: are not that schools were closing. They closed, you know,
- 27:56Speaker 1: in the spring of last year, but then when we
- 27:58Speaker 1: weren't going back in the ball and they they told
- 28:02Speaker 1: us and I literally just said, I'm going to go
- 28:04Speaker 1: pick up Chick fil A for everyone. I got in
- 28:06Speaker 1: the car and I drove forty five minutes to Chick
- 28:09Speaker 1: Filight and cried out the fire away there. M hmm.
- 28:14Speaker 1: It's so hard because you know what, and I'm sure
- 28:17Speaker 1: your husband thinks he's helping, but he's not about the
- 28:20Speaker 1: breastfeeding story. We all know he's not. I mean, in fact,
- 28:24Speaker 1: in fact, we're going on our first date, um since
- 28:27Speaker 1: October thirty one, two thousand nineteen. Tonight. Um, we're at
- 28:31Speaker 1: my parents lake house. They're going to watch the kids,
- 28:33Speaker 1: and we're celebrating our anniversary, which was last week. It's
- 28:35Speaker 1: our first date out. So I put on makeup for
- 28:38Speaker 1: the first time and dad knows how long. And my
- 28:40Speaker 1: husband looked at me and he was like, are you
- 28:42Speaker 1: in a play tonight? And I'm like, you know you
- 28:45Speaker 1: just you just you just haven't seen me in makeup
- 28:47Speaker 1: and ant you have to like this husband because my
- 28:52Speaker 1: husband is an e er physician who actually has a
- 28:54Speaker 1: Now I like him, but I wish he wasn't a
- 28:56Speaker 1: making fun of your makeup and be making fun of
- 28:58Speaker 1: your roots, those two things I don't want and see
- 29:01Speaker 1: and see. I bet he's still made you have sex
- 29:03Speaker 1: when you came home. Wow that Casey. Okay, this is
- 29:09Speaker 1: a guest contest. I apologize, Kate. I'm sorry. Sometimes it's
- 29:15Speaker 1: literally just let me have three hours on the couch
- 29:18Speaker 1: after the kids go to bed, to not talk to me,
- 29:21Speaker 1: not doing anything, Just let me watch my crappy TV
- 29:24Speaker 1: and you load the dishwasher and and don't even talk
- 29:28Speaker 1: to me till the next moment. And that sexual And
- 29:31Speaker 1: then Casey and I text about the true crime shows
- 29:33Speaker 1: we're watching. Donald Donald doesn't watch him, so Casey and
- 29:36Speaker 1: I are like the two women like drinking our white wine,
- 29:39Speaker 1: being like, did you see this one? It's hard? I
- 29:42Speaker 1: mean it is, It's true. It's so hard, and I
- 29:45Speaker 1: don't I wish I knew how to fix it. But no,
- 29:47Speaker 1: you can't imagine how happy my husband is for me.
- 29:50Speaker 1: In this moment, he like he has my daughter fishing
- 29:53Speaker 1: on the dock, my mom has my ten week old son.
- 29:56Speaker 1: Like he was like get your shower, like get you ready,
- 29:59Speaker 1: like he you know, like he had me go shopping
- 30:01Speaker 1: for a dress for our date tonight. You like sent
- 30:03Speaker 1: me to an outdoor mall with my mask. Like he
- 30:06Speaker 1: is actually exact, Like he is the most supportive, incredible guy.
- 30:09Speaker 1: I'm liking him a little more. You had me at doctor.
- 30:11Speaker 1: He is an e R doctor with a second specialty
- 30:14Speaker 1: in hospice and palliative care. And I've been through it.
- 30:19Speaker 1: I know I've been through it with my my dad
- 30:21Speaker 1: and my sisters, so I know who they are and
- 30:23Speaker 1: I and actually yeah, so yeah, okay, I like him again.
- 30:26Speaker 1: Just tell him not to make fun of your fucking roots.
- 30:28Speaker 1: You know, you know what, it's just kind of like Casey,
- 30:30Speaker 1: you understand, like Donald says all the time, like you know,
- 30:33Speaker 1: it's kind of fun to ship talk your husband. You
- 30:35Speaker 1: love him more than life itself, but it's just so
- 30:36Speaker 1: fun to every once in a while be like I
- 30:39Speaker 1: hate I do it more than I probably should. But
- 30:45Speaker 1: tell him about the time and okay I will, But
- 30:48Speaker 1: let me tell you one thing. Though a lot of
- 30:50Speaker 1: the times, even though we blame the husband's, a lot
- 30:52Speaker 1: of it is the kids, because you know what, we
- 30:55Speaker 1: do everything without even thinking that. There have been times
- 30:59Speaker 1: that Donald is standing right next to me and they're like, Mom,
- 31:03Speaker 1: I need this, and the other kid is Mom, but
- 31:05Speaker 1: you didn't do this, and Donald's just sitting there zoned
- 31:07Speaker 1: out watching TV and it's and I had I just
- 31:09Speaker 1: recently asked Donald. I just recently started saying, guys, you
- 31:12Speaker 1: have another parent right here. You know you have to
- 31:15Speaker 1: redirect because you end up doing it all yourself because
- 31:18Speaker 1: you do it faster, better and it gets done. You know,
- 31:21Speaker 1: my daughter, at like nine in the morning, because she
- 31:24Speaker 1: knows how to play me now during COVID, will come
- 31:26Speaker 1: into my bathroom and open the shower curtain for like
- 31:29Speaker 1: my once a week shower. I get and be like
- 31:32Speaker 1: can I have chocolate milk? And I'm like, what's your
- 31:35Speaker 1: dad doing? And She's like watching the news exactly exactly
- 31:40Speaker 1: and I'm like, it's nine am, No you can't. She's
- 31:42Speaker 1: like why and I was like fine, It's just like yeah,
- 31:46Speaker 1: I don't care. I give up. I'll be during COVID.
- 31:49Speaker 1: A lot of you moms are are probably have to
- 31:52Speaker 1: and Shay, I know you feel free to weigh in
- 31:54Speaker 1: and chase got kids. I know a lot of you
- 31:56Speaker 1: parents must be like a lot do you go quicker
- 31:58Speaker 1: to fuck it? Yes, have chocolate milk and mine. That's
- 32:01Speaker 1: why they had donuts for lunch today. I feel I
- 32:05Speaker 1: feel no shame about it's ez. My daughter's easy. Usually
- 32:08Speaker 1: after her nap, watches one twenty two minutes like Winnie
- 32:11Speaker 1: the Pooh episode, and every day she's like, can I
- 32:13Speaker 1: have to? And I'm like, you know what, Like you've
- 32:15Speaker 1: already watched your show. She's like why, And I'm like, fine, three,
- 32:22Speaker 1: have four? Your dad's in the run till midnight tonight.
- 32:24Speaker 1: Have four. I'm nursing. It's true, you have you have
- 32:29Speaker 1: to find something that you like to do or something
- 32:31Speaker 1: for you that nobody else likes to do, and then
- 32:34Speaker 1: you get to do it alone and you're on your own.
- 32:36Speaker 1: So now here's the problem. Now here's a problem. Now
- 32:39Speaker 1: I've been saying that forever. Maybe you just gotta find
- 32:42Speaker 1: a hobby. You gotta find something that you like to
- 32:43Speaker 1: do by yourself. You gotta do you gotta find what
- 32:46Speaker 1: it is that you want to do. When I say
- 32:48Speaker 1: that ship. I'm an asshole and I don't know what
- 32:51Speaker 1: I'm talking about. But now she just fit that game
- 32:54Speaker 1: to all her hobby. What if her hobby is you
- 32:57Speaker 1: fucking do the ship for a couple of hours while
- 33:00Speaker 1: I go upstairs and watch fucking true crime. That that's
- 33:02Speaker 1: my hobby. I'm too tired to do anything else. I don't,
- 33:08Speaker 1: I don't. I regret bringing my wife up to this conversation.
- 33:12Speaker 1: Now it's your fault, that's all. You're the one who
- 33:14Speaker 1: man got her. My money happens to be kind of
- 33:17Speaker 1: beneficial to the whole family. I love to cook. I
- 33:20Speaker 1: love to cook. Everything's about cooking. In fact, when I
- 33:23Speaker 1: am nursing Zach, because I can't listen to this podcast
- 33:26Speaker 1: because while I'm nursing, because Donald so loud, I watch
- 33:29Speaker 1: I say that too. I tell him I watch episodes
- 33:34Speaker 1: of The Barefoot Contessa because she's soothing. Joel, do you
- 33:38Speaker 1: love her? I love her? Full goals goals. But have
- 33:43Speaker 1: you only seen Sorry, this is a total non sequitor,
- 33:45Speaker 1: but have you guys seen my octopus teacher? No? No,
- 33:50Speaker 1: oh my god, you guys say I know you love
- 33:55Speaker 1: good fucking ship. Write this down, my octopus Teacher. It's
- 33:59Speaker 1: on Netflix. Okay, I'll watch that. If you're listening to this,
- 34:03Speaker 1: don't turn off the podcast, but jot down in your
- 34:05Speaker 1: brain My Octopus Teacher. It's on Netflix. Everybody has Netflix,
- 34:09Speaker 1: and it is an amazing documentary about a man who
- 34:14Speaker 1: befriends an octopus that I love your I love your
- 34:17Speaker 1: constant fear that when you recommend something people are going
- 34:20Speaker 1: to be like fuck yeah and like turn off the
- 34:22Speaker 1: podcast immediately, because I think I'm a really good I
- 34:25Speaker 1: think I think I'm very good. I think I'm very
- 34:29Speaker 1: good at rolling people and rolling people. I can be like, listen,
- 34:31Speaker 1: I can convince you have to watch this show. It's
- 34:33Speaker 1: so amazing. I think I'm pretty decent at getting people
- 34:36Speaker 1: riled up to try something, but I don't want to
- 34:38Speaker 1: roll them too far. But they're like, funk this podcast.
- 34:40Speaker 1: I'm going to watch The Octopus Teacher. Now, all right,
- 34:44Speaker 1: we gotta move on. Casey. We love you looks lovely
- 34:49Speaker 1: good colorists, colors. Oh my gosh, she's so pretty. Yeah,
- 34:56Speaker 1: she's very pretty donable and how good he has it? Yeah,
- 35:00Speaker 1: what are you talking about? Well that was kind of
- 35:03Speaker 1: fix your life, So Dan, let's do it. Let's do
- 35:05Speaker 1: a up a posthumous posthumous how do you say that word?
- 35:09Speaker 1: A posthumous playing of the Fix Your Life music? Right here? Kate.
- 35:16Speaker 1: You're welcome, You're welcome, You're welcome, Kate. Do you have
- 35:20Speaker 1: a question? Um for for any of us? I know
- 35:23Speaker 1: you have to go because you have date night? But
- 35:24Speaker 1: do you have? But actually, are are the other couple
- 35:27Speaker 1: that's driving forty five minutes from Asheville just told me
- 35:30Speaker 1: they're running late, so that can be alright. I won't
- 35:34Speaker 1: take up your time, but you can take up mine. Now,
- 35:36Speaker 1: go ahead. What's your question? Yes, I'm actually really glad
- 35:39Speaker 1: that shas here because my first question is about cast
- 35:43Speaker 1: and crew, Zach. It's it's for you. Mainly, I've always
- 35:48Speaker 1: wondered how when an actor is a star of a piece,
- 35:52Speaker 1: kind of like Kevin Costner does all the time, and
- 35:55Speaker 1: they also direct you directed episodes of Scrubs and you
- 35:59Speaker 1: know other projects that you've been the start of, who
- 36:02Speaker 1: directs you when you're in the scene. And I don't
- 36:05Speaker 1: mean like here's your mark, here's your site line. I
- 36:07Speaker 1: mean like you finish a take with Donald and there,
- 36:10Speaker 1: and you know, I'm sure you're not like uh, Donald,
- 36:13Speaker 1: you know a little bit less and uh you know Judy,
- 36:16Speaker 1: Uh you know that what seemed a little whiny and
- 36:18Speaker 1: mean no note some you know, like, so who's behind camera?
- 36:23Speaker 1: It's a very question, it's very question. Um so I'll
- 36:26Speaker 1: just use the scrubs example. There'd be uh, the writer
- 36:28Speaker 1: of the episode. In this case it's Mike Schwartz, and
- 36:30Speaker 1: he would be sitting behind the monitor. Bill of course,
- 36:33Speaker 1: would come to the very first rehearsal of every scene
- 36:36Speaker 1: and he would watch it. He'd watch my blocking. He
- 36:39Speaker 1: he didn't care too much about where the where the
- 36:41Speaker 1: camera was for the specific director and especially when he
- 36:44Speaker 1: trusted them. But he but he was basically blocking them.
- 36:47Speaker 1: And most importantly, as the showrunner writer, are the jokes playing?
- 36:50Speaker 1: And when the jokes weren't playing, he'd tweaked them or
- 36:52Speaker 1: rewrite them. And so he would see and he'd go
- 36:55Speaker 1: so he could give me a note and he'd be like,
- 36:57Speaker 1: you know, when you do that line with Donald, you
- 36:59Speaker 1: gotta have more energy because of X, Y and C,
- 37:01Speaker 1: and I go, got it, got it, And then he'd
- 37:02Speaker 1: go off to go right with the writers. The writer
- 37:05Speaker 1: of that particular episode would stay on set at the monitors,
- 37:08Speaker 1: so very often I would when the camera's on me
- 37:10Speaker 1: and I'm directing, I would then obviously you can tell
- 37:12Speaker 1: if the crews laughing, if I'm if I'm gonna scene
- 37:14Speaker 1: with Donald and I'm making him laugh, I'm feeling good
- 37:16Speaker 1: about it. On my weeks, we would have playback. We
- 37:20Speaker 1: wouldn't always have play back because it's a time suck,
- 37:22Speaker 1: but on when I'm directing, I would have the ability
- 37:24Speaker 1: to go back and play back to take and go, Okay,
- 37:26Speaker 1: that was good, let's move on. So I do need
- 37:28Speaker 1: to be able to play back the video and then
- 37:30Speaker 1: I would just check in with with whatever writer it was.
- 37:33Speaker 1: But you know, one thing I got good at was
- 37:35Speaker 1: was kind of sensing when I did Garden. When I
- 37:37Speaker 1: Garden set, wish I was here being on camera and
- 37:39Speaker 1: directing myself. You kind of start to get a sense
- 37:41Speaker 1: of like, I I know when I'm good, I know
- 37:44Speaker 1: when I suck. I know when I I felt weird
- 37:46Speaker 1: I didn't. I mean, do you just get to the
- 37:47Speaker 1: point where you can be really honest with yourself and
- 37:50Speaker 1: know when you're not in your rhythm. But you maybe
- 37:52Speaker 1: need that writer or that a d or someone to
- 37:55Speaker 1: be for you to be like was that too big?
- 37:57Speaker 1: And for them to be like, yeah, that was too big.
- 37:58Speaker 1: You definitely need a producer type who you trust, who's funny,
- 38:02Speaker 1: who's a good writer, I think, uh, and or a
- 38:05Speaker 1: first a d assist director or sometimes the cinematographer. I've
- 38:08Speaker 1: had a great relationship with who's who whisper in your ear?
- 38:10Speaker 1: Something that really that really helps because I've had times
- 38:13Speaker 1: where I went where I did, like on Alex Sink
- 38:16Speaker 1: I remember doing like a really funny take and I'm directing.
- 38:18Speaker 1: I think it's good, but I'm a little secure about it,
- 38:19Speaker 1: and I go to the I'm excited, sort of like
- 38:22Speaker 1: walking back to the monitors and no one's there and
- 38:25Speaker 1: I'm like this, I don't like this feels like tight
- 38:27Speaker 1: rob walking without without a net because I I don't know,
- 38:31Speaker 1: I need fucking help, you know what I mean. So
- 38:33Speaker 1: I think that that I much prefer it um when
- 38:37Speaker 1: I have people I trust that I may think that's good.
- 38:40Speaker 1: The great thing about my favorite thing about acting directing
- 38:43Speaker 1: is that I can steer the scene from within. So
- 38:46Speaker 1: if I if in my opinion, I want Donald to
- 38:49Speaker 1: be anged turk Donald to be angrier in this moment,
- 38:52Speaker 1: I'm gonna fucking come Adam harder. I'm gonna be more
- 38:55Speaker 1: aggressive with my lines because I'm trying to steer him
- 38:58Speaker 1: from within the scene to get more riled up um
- 39:02Speaker 1: or or or or like when you want funnier lines
- 39:05Speaker 1: or something like that. The great thing about you know,
- 39:08Speaker 1: you would do it as an actor too, but Bill
- 39:10Speaker 1: would have a certain set of jokes and then you
- 39:13Speaker 1: would have like five more and you'd be like, just
- 39:15Speaker 1: run him off, and it would be great because you
- 39:17Speaker 1: would get performances out of us where it was like
- 39:19Speaker 1: we were giving We trusted you enough because we thought
- 39:22Speaker 1: you were funny enough. Also, your scope and your visual
- 39:26Speaker 1: was what. We trusted that enough also that we were like, yeah, man,
- 39:30Speaker 1: whatever you want us to say, we're gonna say that.
- 39:32Speaker 1: Ship So we get to the end of scenes or
- 39:34Speaker 1: we get to punch lines and stuff like Zach that,
- 39:36Speaker 1: and Zach would throw new punch lines in and you
- 39:39Speaker 1: trusted and go with it because of the fact you
- 39:43Speaker 1: know that you you've seen what he's done. And also
- 39:46Speaker 1: he was just so confident in doing it, so okay
- 39:49Speaker 1: when you say you know, he's like, he's like, uh,
- 39:51Speaker 1: this is a note for you. This is the note
- 39:53Speaker 1: for you and none for me. Even if a director
- 39:57Speaker 1: does even if the director is acting and he does
- 40:00Speaker 1: do that, the confidence that he's showing in the situation
- 40:05Speaker 1: makes you more trustworthy. Now it's not my place because
- 40:09Speaker 1: I'm not directing to say to the director or to
- 40:13Speaker 1: another actor, I think you should do it this way.
- 40:15Speaker 1: I think you're doing it wrong. But because he directed
- 40:18Speaker 1: so many episodes, we got used to it, and I
- 40:20Speaker 1: think the first episode it felt a little weird, but
- 40:22Speaker 1: then after that it was like, dude, whatever you want, Zach.
- 40:26Speaker 1: So I think that's kind of in a testament if
- 40:28Speaker 1: I may like to compliment, like the kind of examples
- 40:31Speaker 1: that you have been for positive male relationships and mature,
- 40:36Speaker 1: you know, open men together, but also like there's a
- 40:39Speaker 1: lot of egos. I I don't imagine that that's always
- 40:43Speaker 1: the case when suddenly your co star and in your
- 40:46Speaker 1: real life best friend are coming out and they're suddenly
- 40:49Speaker 1: kind of in this status change, you know, and for
- 40:53Speaker 1: you to just like take a note and not just
- 40:56Speaker 1: swallow it, but like appreciate it and trust with that well.
- 41:01Speaker 1: And also I would say that he was rooting for me.
- 41:03Speaker 1: I mean, he's my best friend and he was stoked
- 41:04Speaker 1: for me. He was the opposite of an ego because
- 41:07Speaker 1: he was like, this is so cool you're directing. You know.
- 41:09Speaker 1: That was the fine and Johnny c two, I should say,
- 41:11Speaker 1: and I meant the whole cast. I never everyone. I've
- 41:14Speaker 1: been asked this before and I think I've answered it,
- 41:16Speaker 1: but I'll say again. When I started directing the show,
- 41:18Speaker 1: there wasn't a single They were all rooting for me.
- 41:23Speaker 1: They were all excited for me. Bill of course was
- 41:25Speaker 1: a competitive motherfucker. But the rap because he was a
- 41:28Speaker 1: little like, Okay, here's the hardest episode we've ever made,
- 41:32Speaker 1: but which I won't mention the zip line episode? You
- 41:34Speaker 1: did you already? No, I didn't mention it. I didn't
- 41:37Speaker 1: mention it. Now on my Twitter feed no matter what
- 41:39Speaker 1: I right, people like, oh, is this the episode about
- 41:41Speaker 1: the zip line? All right? Buck you guys. But no,
- 41:44Speaker 1: everyone was rooting for me and everyone was supportive, and uh,
- 41:47Speaker 1: I loved it. I loved it so much because, um,
- 41:49Speaker 1: you know, Donald and I can make each other laugh
- 41:51Speaker 1: so so quickly and easily. So when he's doing his
- 41:54Speaker 1: when he if he's got a big joke and I'm
- 41:56Speaker 1: cracking up, and then we're in the zone together and
- 41:58Speaker 1: do another take and and say this, and then he's
- 42:01Speaker 1: willing to try it. You know. It's it's it's so
- 42:02Speaker 1: much fun. It's it was amazing. It Also it also
- 42:06Speaker 1: feels like, uh, Scorsese and de Niro or Scorsese and Pacino,
- 42:11Speaker 1: you know what I mean. It's like not that we're
- 42:13Speaker 1: on that level, or we are. Donald will tell us,
- 42:16Speaker 1: tell us, but it's like, you know, Scorsese puts his
- 42:23Speaker 1: friends in the movie. He's not putting them in the
- 42:24Speaker 1: movie to make them fall flat on their face, you
- 42:27Speaker 1: know what I mean. And so when Zach is giving
- 42:29Speaker 1: you direction and everything when we're shooting, he's not doing
- 42:32Speaker 1: it because he wants to get through today. He wants
- 42:35Speaker 1: you to shine just like everyone else. He wants everything
- 42:37Speaker 1: to be perfect, you know. And so where there are
- 42:40Speaker 1: people that come into a situation like this and they're
- 42:43Speaker 1: just like, let's just get the lines right and everybody
- 42:45Speaker 1: and we can move on. I just want to tell
- 42:46Speaker 1: my story, and that's it where Zach is wants to
- 42:49Speaker 1: tell his story, but he's also open to you expressing
- 42:53Speaker 1: yourself in the piece. Yeah, great question, Kate, you have
- 42:56Speaker 1: another one, since we like you so much. Oh, you're
- 42:58Speaker 1: so You're so nice. Actually, I would like to tell
- 43:00Speaker 1: you just why I actually reached out to Joel if
- 43:04Speaker 1: I could, because I just think it's crazy, um, because
- 43:07Speaker 1: I don't believe out in signs unless they work out
- 43:09Speaker 1: for me. But I right, um, but there's not enough
- 43:14Speaker 1: time in the day. Uh. I was doing one of
- 43:17Speaker 1: my hiding from my family errands listening to the latest episode,
- 43:21Speaker 1: and the errand I happened to be doing was I
- 43:23Speaker 1: was returning some scrubs to a store that my husband
- 43:27Speaker 1: had ordered online that were comically large on him because
- 43:31Speaker 1: you know, we're all trying to order online and it sucks.
- 43:33Speaker 1: We have no idea, like you know. And so I
- 43:36Speaker 1: was listening to your podcast returning scrubs and when I
- 43:39Speaker 1: walked into the Uniform City store that sells the scrubs,
- 43:43Speaker 1: the song Everywhere by Michelle Branch your anthem, and it
- 43:49Speaker 1: was like, listen, we were gonna. I thought I had
- 43:53Speaker 1: her on the hook. We were we were Twitter d M.
- 43:55Speaker 1: I said, would you come on the show? She goes sure,
- 43:57Speaker 1: and I go, would you play Everywhere? Live? On was sticking?
- 44:00Speaker 1: She's like the dots came up and then they went away,
- 44:03Speaker 1: and I was like, that's like when you're off fishing
- 44:06Speaker 1: and the fish gets read. I haven't cast again. I
- 44:11Speaker 1: feel like I can on read. Yo left you on Red,
- 44:16Speaker 1: isn't it left you on red? Same ship, red spelled
- 44:19Speaker 1: the same way. Dog. At least I can at least
- 44:23Speaker 1: I can brag them. Michelle Branch left me on Red.
- 44:26Speaker 1: That's true, that's true, and I love you about it.
- 44:28Speaker 1: And it was like right like Zach, it was right
- 44:29Speaker 1: at the like because yeah, you know the key change,
- 44:32Speaker 1: like the huge key change. And I was like, oh god,
- 44:34Speaker 1: this is a sign. So I like asked Joel if
- 44:36Speaker 1: it was a sign, and she got back to me.
- 44:39Speaker 1: I was like, I guess so, because I never do
- 44:41Speaker 1: things like this, I'm like, I never win a raffle,
- 44:43Speaker 1: I never win in anything. No one picks me, like
- 44:45Speaker 1: and as I can't believe, I'm actually you're gonna win.
- 44:48Speaker 1: Can we give her some free ship? No? No, I
- 44:50Speaker 1: don't know. I don't know. I don't know, are you no?
- 44:57Speaker 1: Because she blamed me for the king of her kid,
- 45:03Speaker 1: I purposely never heard. I heard you say that ship
- 45:07Speaker 1: you said, and I know breastfeed while listening motherfucking loud.
- 45:12Speaker 1: You even said because Donald's too motherfucking loud. I heard you.
- 45:15Speaker 1: You said it to my wife. You even said to
- 45:17Speaker 1: my wife. You even said it to my wife. Can
- 45:20Speaker 1: you got bold and you said it to my wife.
- 45:23Speaker 1: You ain't getting ship dlinsky, you get jack ship. You
- 45:28Speaker 1: ain't too loud now, good day, you're getting too loud now,
- 45:32Speaker 1: Ariolas all over the world are pun You're actually making
- 45:37Speaker 1: me like you're making my milk let. I'm gonna stay like, oh,
- 45:40Speaker 1: my god, word because I'm so sweaty and upset. Now,
- 45:43Speaker 1: my god, I don't know if you're allowed to say
- 45:46Speaker 1: that the jack You guys told people to wipe their
- 45:52Speaker 1: balloon knots with your yes, yes, reverably, Donald's not fine.
- 45:59Speaker 1: Say whatever I'm on about my own breast milk. Did
- 46:09Speaker 1: you see, cadies, Cardi bees nipples? What do you mean
- 46:14Speaker 1: in the video? No, Cardi Bee just had a nipples slip.
- 46:17Speaker 1: Did you guys see this on Instant? About it? But
- 46:20Speaker 1: I did not view it. I did appreciate in the
- 46:23Speaker 1: WAP video the fountains with us spring and in our
- 46:28Speaker 1: house a big thing that we sing to our ten
- 46:30Speaker 1: month old or ten ten week old. Excuse me, Honestly,
- 46:36Speaker 1: I feel like a horrible human being. But instead of
- 46:38Speaker 1: the hook the way it is in the song, we
- 46:40Speaker 1: sing there's some babies in this house. And now my
- 46:46Speaker 1: daughter has started, she'll be like doing plato and she'll
- 46:49Speaker 1: be like, there's some mamas in this house. Oh my,
- 46:58Speaker 1: do you takes can be? Yeah? Would you like some?
- 47:02Speaker 1: I love Okay, let's send her some GT kombucha. I
- 47:05Speaker 1: love it and I love I love the like the
- 47:08Speaker 1: plainest most like you know, like the ginger that you know.
- 47:12Speaker 1: I love love. I've been drinking this um this one
- 47:15Speaker 1: right here, pet, you got this one done? Oh yeah,
- 47:20Speaker 1: that's my jam. I finished my martini. Okay, we will
- 47:25Speaker 1: send you some GTS kombucha, and we will send you
- 47:28Speaker 1: some GTS aqua key for for being such a wonderful guest.
- 47:33Speaker 1: We gotta go, though, I think right, we gotta go
- 47:36Speaker 1: because we have Chase Serran, who's not getting nearly enough
- 47:38Speaker 1: attention on this fucking episode. No, this is great for
- 47:41Speaker 1: me if she has been replaced by Ariola talk, I
- 47:46Speaker 1: don't like that. You've been a great guest, Kate. We're
- 47:50Speaker 1: gonna send you a whole bunch of g TS kombucha
- 47:52Speaker 1: and and and and have a good date. Night. For
- 47:55Speaker 1: God's sake, have a good date night. Thank you, thank you.
- 47:59Speaker 1: Some babies in this house. There's some babies. There's some
- 48:02Speaker 1: babies in the South. Give it up for Kates in
- 48:09Speaker 1: this house. Babies in this house. Okay, okay, by Kates Alinsky,
- 48:23Speaker 1: and we're back, Ladies and gentlemen. That was Kate, and
- 48:27Speaker 1: she was incredible. Our next guest caused quite the stir
- 48:32Speaker 1: when she chose to read Zach for Filth and turned
- 48:35Speaker 1: out to be hilarious. I believe, and listeners feel free
- 48:39Speaker 1: to correct me if I'm wrong. That nor Con is
- 48:42Speaker 1: to this day our longest fan call of all time,
- 48:47Speaker 1: and it's because she had so many creations, three incredible questions,
- 48:50Speaker 1: a wonderful fix of your life. She was hilarious. She
- 48:54Speaker 1: cracked Bill up, which I can attest to not easy
- 48:57Speaker 1: to do. We loved her and we were so full
- 49:00Speaker 1: to have her, even though she was in India and
- 49:02Speaker 1: we could not send her a mug. I'm sorry, Nor
- 49:05Speaker 1: but you are a living icon and we're absolutely going
- 49:08Speaker 1: to have to have you back on the show soon,
- 49:11Speaker 1: so I won't take up too much more time. Let's
- 49:12Speaker 1: get into North and we're back, and we're bad we're back.
- 49:30Speaker 1: Oh my god, I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry to
- 49:39Speaker 1: Nor do you get that all the time? Do you
- 49:41Speaker 1: get that all the time? Nor? Hi? How are you? Hi?
- 49:49Speaker 1: Do you get that all the time? Nor? No, no
- 49:52Speaker 1: one does that? And the one we're jogging. I have
- 49:54Speaker 1: no earbuds left. I don't think I've ever been introduced
- 50:01Speaker 1: like this ever in my entire life. Nor it's very
- 50:06Speaker 1: you ever seen? Have you ever seen? Have you ever seen?
- 50:08Speaker 1: Star Trek to the Wrath of con I'm not a
- 50:12Speaker 1: Star Trek fan. Yes, thank you, thank you. I've got
- 50:16Speaker 1: a Star Trek fan. I don't got a Star Wars.
- 50:18Speaker 1: I'm sorry, I'm sorry. Ladies and North County, Oh god,
- 50:29Speaker 1: oh my god. I can't believe this. Nor it's so
- 50:32Speaker 1: nice to meet you. Welcome to the program. We have
- 50:34Speaker 1: a very special episode because we have a surprise guest.
- 50:37Speaker 1: Bill Lawrence, the creator of the whole darn thing, is
- 50:39Speaker 1: here so you can ask us anything. I have so
- 50:43Speaker 1: much to ask you, but before I get into that,
- 50:45Speaker 1: I just want to I have been watching you guys
- 50:49Speaker 1: for so long. I have I think watched the series
- 50:52Speaker 1: start to finish over thirty times since two thousand four.
- 51:00Speaker 1: No that's that's almost that's almost thirty times more than
- 51:03Speaker 1: Donald send him. So, um, it's it's my happy place.
- 51:13Speaker 1: It's my husband's cheat called to my mood. So like,
- 51:17Speaker 1: if I'm in a bad mood, like you know, I'm
- 51:19Speaker 1: on my period and you know, usually you need to
- 51:21Speaker 1: give women chocolate and wine. No, you just need to
- 51:24Speaker 1: put on an episode of Scrubs. And I'm like, I
- 51:28Speaker 1: hate it that he has, like he knows this Achilles
- 51:31Speaker 1: deal of mine. I hate it so much. But he
- 51:34Speaker 1: also uses it very very much ridiculous. I wish Donald
- 51:40Speaker 1: wishes he could put on Scrubs to calm down. His
- 51:42Speaker 1: wife would listen. She don't even have to be on
- 51:48Speaker 1: a pair. My wife just don't like me. Man. I'm
- 51:51Speaker 1: now I'm just convinced she's guessing today, I'm guessing today
- 51:55Speaker 1: hasn't been the best quarantine day the past ever, since
- 51:59Speaker 1: school went back, it's been well, I'm sure there's a
- 52:04Speaker 1: lot of I'm sure there's a lot of parents out
- 52:06Speaker 1: there that can relate Donald. Who are who can empathize
- 52:10Speaker 1: with you? You should know nor Donald pointed out while
- 52:12Speaker 1: you were waiting that my wife is essentially playing herself
- 52:15Speaker 1: on the show. So so so for me, I don't think.
- 52:19Speaker 1: I don't I don't think. I don't think popping on
- 52:21Speaker 1: maybe exacted. Yeah, I don't think popping on that. Yeah. Well,
- 52:29Speaker 1: and that's how she's in your life. You just hit
- 52:31Speaker 1: the jackpot, my friend. You know you would think that,
- 52:34Speaker 1: and yet it's also very very scary then, you know what?
- 52:38Speaker 1: You know what I always think, Bill, I think that,
- 52:41Speaker 1: and you've said a version of this, but I think
- 52:43Speaker 1: it's kind of I mean, this is maybe stupid to say,
- 52:46Speaker 1: but the universe kind of gives you who you need.
- 52:50Speaker 1: And you and Donald both have very tough christal I'll
- 52:54Speaker 1: give it capital t um wives, but they because you
- 52:58Speaker 1: guys have big personality, they keep you in check and
- 53:02Speaker 1: sometimes that's very hard. But some wallflower who's gonna let
- 53:06Speaker 1: you do whatever you want is not gonna work for
- 53:08Speaker 1: for six months with you guys. I thought you were
- 53:11Speaker 1: saying that Donald I should be able to trade wives
- 53:13Speaker 1: and have it be cool with them. I thought that's
- 53:15Speaker 1: where you're going, that's something you guys can work out,
- 53:22Speaker 1: because I don't think it would be cool with Kristina.
- 53:24Speaker 1: I think it'd be cool with Krista, but not for me,
- 53:26Speaker 1: just for her she's so in love with Donald it's
- 53:28Speaker 1: so upsetting. Case it will be all right when a
- 53:31Speaker 1: case you'd be like, what we get a pool? Yeah,
- 53:37Speaker 1: case you'd be like, case you'd be like, I'll make
- 53:39Speaker 1: out a bill for a pool. Listen, I gotta tell
- 53:41Speaker 1: you that Kristen. Kristen does this thing that's so awkward
- 53:45Speaker 1: where we're a hug. We're in front of Bill and
- 53:47Speaker 1: we're hugging, and you know, I give a standard hey,
- 53:51Speaker 1: good to see you hug, and she's like, and Bill
- 53:53Speaker 1: standing right there, and she'll be like, don't, don't, don't,
- 53:55Speaker 1: don't let it go. So it's so awkward, and she's
- 54:01Speaker 1: doing it just to funk with Bill. And I'm sitting
- 54:03Speaker 1: there with like a red face, Crystal. I don't like it.
- 54:08Speaker 1: I don't like it. Nor where are you going from.
- 54:11Speaker 1: I'm calling from India, friend, all the way from India. Baby.
- 54:20Speaker 1: This podcast is truly global. Donald, Hey, did you get
- 54:26Speaker 1: able to get a mug? No? I actually haven't gone
- 54:30Speaker 1: around to ordering it yet. Also, stuff is not coming
- 54:33Speaker 1: in from the US right now. They're taking forever to
- 54:36Speaker 1: reach us, so I'm just waiting for ship to get up.
- 54:39Speaker 1: I have to say, I have to say on the
- 54:41Speaker 1: merge front, this is a slight diggression. When MacDonald and
- 54:43Speaker 1: I started this podcast, Um, the people I heard said
- 54:46Speaker 1: to us, and we were, Donald and I don't know
- 54:48Speaker 1: podcast that much. I've listened to a few. He's listening
- 54:50Speaker 1: to none. And we said, um, they said, just you know,
- 54:54Speaker 1: podcast listeners really like you know, some basic merge a
- 54:57Speaker 1: T shirt or a mug because you're you're build a
- 55:00Speaker 1: community and it's sort of a club and people like
- 55:02Speaker 1: that stuff. And so Donald and I said, okay, well
- 55:04Speaker 1: we'll make merch. That's cool. You know, we were never
- 55:06Speaker 1: in a rock band. That'll be fun for us. So
- 55:09Speaker 1: it's taking a long time to get it up. It's
- 55:11Speaker 1: and and uh. And on the podcast we've joked about
- 55:14Speaker 1: all these funny merch ideas. We put up a mug
- 55:17Speaker 1: and a mask and they were gone within like three hours.
- 55:21Speaker 1: And Donald like, now, I've been texting like we need
- 55:24Speaker 1: to take the shilling more seriously because people are not
- 55:27Speaker 1: sucking around with fucking merch. They want their merch. Donald,
- 55:30Speaker 1: there is a lot you guys can do much wise.
- 55:33Speaker 1: And I was just like sure, if I knew this
- 55:35Speaker 1: was going to happen, I get like you know the show,
- 55:38Speaker 1: whether faces on it or something printed before like I
- 55:41Speaker 1: got on this call, but like you look great. You
- 55:46Speaker 1: look when I got when I got the mail, and
- 55:51Speaker 1: I was like, oh shoot, I need to start looking
- 55:53Speaker 1: like a human being again. It's almost one o'clock at night.
- 56:01Speaker 1: Nor just texting me that the only merch she wants
- 56:03Speaker 1: is a five six seven eight Bill Lawrence thing, which
- 56:06Speaker 1: I think is very nice to have said. Hey, by
- 56:09Speaker 1: the way, I promise we promised Nora a coffee mug.
- 56:12Speaker 1: That she doesn't have to order a coffee mug. Zact
- 56:14Speaker 1: that we're gonna send her. Stop. You're a guest anybody,
- 56:18Speaker 1: if anybody would like a coffee mug. All you gotta
- 56:21Speaker 1: do is you don't have to pay for him. All
- 56:24Speaker 1: you gotta do what I'm not supposed to know. He's right, listen,
- 56:27Speaker 1: if you're from here on out, from here on out,
- 56:31Speaker 1: Bill Lawrence. Bill Lawrence brought up a great incentive for
- 56:35Speaker 1: making it onto the show. Yeah mug, I think mug again,
- 56:40Speaker 1: And I'm loving that it's starting with me. So I'm
- 56:43Speaker 1: going to be expecting that Joel, I see Joel sign
- 56:46Speaker 1: not forgiving where a mug, but trying, trying trying to
- 56:49Speaker 1: get a mug to India. I see you out holding
- 56:53Speaker 1: her head, like, how the funk am I getting to
- 56:55Speaker 1: India right now? By the way, by the way, I
- 56:57Speaker 1: think it should be a rule no matter where you're
- 56:59Speaker 1: calling from, it you don't get that mug within a week.
- 57:01Speaker 1: Then you get a second mug and it what wait
- 57:07Speaker 1: what your name is? And you know it doesn't work.
- 57:15Speaker 1: It's not gonna work. When Daniel and freaking Joel and
- 57:17Speaker 1: I hold on, no, no, no, and then and then
- 57:20Speaker 1: it used to finish my finished, the finished the mug,
- 57:23Speaker 1: Zach and then I'll give you like a five or
- 57:27Speaker 1: a six or seven eight mug. No no, no no, no, no, no,
- 57:30Speaker 1: no no no turn it off? What Dan? No? Then
- 57:38Speaker 1: we're bad? Can right? He thinks he can take control
- 57:41Speaker 1: over the show. Dan, I'm gonna need the ability. I'm
- 57:43Speaker 1: gonna need the ability to be able to mute Bill. Wait,
- 57:53Speaker 1: are we sharing your name correct? Nor? Yes, you're saying
- 57:55Speaker 1: it alright? Nor what do you do? What do what
- 58:01Speaker 1: she does there? What do you do there? In Indian
- 58:03Speaker 1: Orth she collects mugs from fake doctors. Well that's a
- 58:10Speaker 1: bit of a loaded question, but like the short version
- 58:12Speaker 1: of that is I have been a wedding plan of
- 58:14Speaker 1: eight years. Uh. And I just recently, as like about
- 58:18Speaker 1: four weeks ago, stepped out of my company gave the
- 58:21Speaker 1: whole thing to my partner because I am going to
- 58:23Speaker 1: be a sustainable farmer. Oh that's oh my god. It's
- 58:29Speaker 1: like the documentary did you watch The Biggest Little Farm? Yes?
- 58:33Speaker 1: We uh so my husband and I have always wanted
- 58:36Speaker 1: to retire on a farm and do that whole thing. Uh.
- 58:40Speaker 1: And then this, this whole COVID situation has just kind
- 58:42Speaker 1: of been like why are we waiting? You know? Good
- 58:47Speaker 1: for you? What are you going for you? What are
- 58:49Speaker 1: you gonna what are you going to? What crop are
- 58:52Speaker 1: you going to farm? We're actually going to do a
- 58:55Speaker 1: perma culture, which is kind of an ecosystem of like
- 58:59Speaker 1: different kinds things together. And we're also going to live
- 59:02Speaker 1: on the farm away from the city so that I
- 59:05Speaker 1: don't have to deal. Um. So, yeah, no, I missed.
- 59:11Speaker 1: I missed. If you said that you've seen this documentary
- 59:13Speaker 1: The Biggest Little Farm, Yes we have. I love that
- 59:17Speaker 1: documentary so much And if you if you're listening and
- 59:19Speaker 1: you haven't seen it, please check it out. It's it's
- 59:21Speaker 1: about a couple that that does a version of what
- 59:24Speaker 1: Nora is saying, where they create a sustainable farm and
- 59:27Speaker 1: it's so moving and amazing and I really loved it. Yeah,
- 59:31Speaker 1: And it was just I think and my husband and
- 59:33Speaker 1: I were in quarantine together with like his family and everything,
- 59:37Speaker 1: and we were just you know, and Bombay is a
- 59:39Speaker 1: very loud city and during like the whole thing was
- 59:43Speaker 1: so quiet, and it it was like we were just like,
- 59:45Speaker 1: oh my god, this is amazing. Why don't we have
- 59:47Speaker 1: this for our whole lives? And that's when the conversation started, like,
- 59:50Speaker 1: you know, do you really want to wait ten years
- 59:51Speaker 1: and then start and you wanted to do it now?
- 59:54Speaker 1: And I was like why not? Oh well, I wish
- 59:57Speaker 1: you the best of luck. Would be so awesome. Build
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: you think you and Kristen might also um start a
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: sustainable farm. Yeah, necessarily think that's in the cards for us.
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: But man, man, man, do I think that's super with
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: the with the sustainable farm still, but like a luxury
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: four seasons resort is that part of it? Yeah? Bill,
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: you can. You can build a four seasons resort on
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: the farms. Part of that's really cool. That is so cool.
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: Nor go ahead if you have a question we were
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: ready to answer. So I have a few so you
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: can stop me whenever you guys have gone on. Well
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: the way we get ahead, Okay, so I'm gonna start
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: with Bill just because he's the bans beIN operation. Well, no,
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: thank you, thank you so much for enjoying my podcast.
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: It's really cool. I enjoy your podcast. Like I totally,
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: I totally imagine that. I totally imagine that in season
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: three of this podcast, Donald and I are guests. You guys,
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: he is long. Would you guys tell me you can
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: come on whatever you want, you know, let me know
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: what's going on, what's here? So, so if we were
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: to pick up the show today, um X number of
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: years after it has gone off yet, and we had
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: to pick up from where the boys are today and
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: the whole class is today, But where do you see
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: the show going. Do you think that they will still
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: be at Sacred Heart or do you think that j
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: D and Turf would go into private practice together? Where
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: do you see like the whole show going? Like, just
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: because there was so much towards the end of season eight,
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: I don't consider season nine in actual season. So just
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: letting all of that whatever, whatever, whatever, that was there
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: was only one Nor, there was only one main difference
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: with the season nine recalling major differences. Hold up you
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: or both you and Bill were gone, so the magic
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: was gone, the magic dreamed. I'm answering Nor's question because
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: I want to hear Donald Zack's answer to this. So No,
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: we were talking a lot because everybody always asked Donald,
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: Zack and me if we're ever going to reboot the show,
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: and Uh, what's really interesting is we've always had opportunities,
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: but everybody on this show a works constantly because they're
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: also super talented and be We see each other on
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: our own because we love each other, so you know,
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: we we haven't always been driven to do even for
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: me getting to come on this show on Zack and
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: Donald's podcast, Yes it's Theirs. For me, is such a
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: co opportunity to see two guys I love so. Uh.
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: Only recently we've been starting talking about that and thinking
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: about what it would be and with the writers, here's
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: the question for you guys. I think that we think
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: Zach and j D and Turk would always be close,
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: and we think that they would always be of service
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: and that those two were doctors for life. But the
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: one thing that we always got caught up on is
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: when you watch the finale of season eight and Zack's
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: voice j D's voice over says, uh and who's to
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: say that all these things wouldn't come true just this once?
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: You know? And then as writers we fight. Does that
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: mean that they all came true? Or does that mean
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: that j D is hoping they came true? So that's
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: where we always start. What do you guys think? Because
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: we always started to go like, if we rebooted this,
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: does that mean that j D and Donald's kids ultimately
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: are going to end up together and married like they
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: do in the show. Does that mean that those things
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: actually happened? You know? You know? So? Uh so I
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: would because to me, that's the trap. Do you think, Zach,
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: do you think that those things that we were showing
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: in the finale were real? Or do you think they
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: were your dreams? Um, that's a question I've never been asked,
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: and I'm semi embarrassed to admit that it gave me
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: goose bumps on my arm. But I don't hold anything
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: back from your listeners. Um. I've never been asked that question, Bill,
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: and it's a great question. And I as as as
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: as you were talking about it, I I kind of
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: answered it automatically and said, no, that was j D's
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: fantasy of how great life could be. And then I
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: started thinking, And then I started thinking, like, if you
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: brought it back, it might be interesting to show that
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: things had not gone that way at all. And in fact,
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: he's um, they've all been separated, and they were you know,
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: you know, on this podcast a lot we talked about
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: how we're all living life and and COVID aside, happy
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: people and doing the best that we can, but we
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: always talk about how we missed the community of this
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: wonderful thing that happened to us for for nearly a decade.
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: And it made me think that it might be interesting
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: that the characters aren't together. They don't have that special
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: bond and there is some reason that has to bring
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: them together, and and and joy and and community come
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: out of bringing them back together. It's always what se
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: messed us up, broke you go Downald. I I agree
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: with you, Zach. I think I think you're right. I
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: think I think that's a better story. Johnny loves Chatti
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: didn't go that long, you know what I mean? That
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: happy ending of of the kids being the next generation
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: of Turk and j D. But it's a love it's
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: the love story that you know, Turke and j D's
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: love story is a great love story, But this is
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: the actual love story where you know their children are together.
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: I think that's too happy they where do they hate
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: each other? That I think? I know? See? No, that's
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: the problem is that I feel like, you know, people
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: wanted when j D says, who's to say my fantasies
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: couldn't come true? Justice once that you want to believe
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: that that next Christmas they were all together, you know,
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: and that they stayed friends. And I think people would
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: be really not happy in a in a bad way
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: if we came up on a world that they were
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: no longer in each other's lives. So I think that's
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: the immediately. No, No, let me clarify what I think
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: that I'm saying. J D and Turk are still tight.
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: Their kids just don't get along, you know what I mean? Well,
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: I was I was saying that we can be tight
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: but separated, you know, um, And I think that Bill,
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: you know this, Bill, you know this better than anything.
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: The audience will often say something two things at once.
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: I remember when I when we screen tested Garden State,
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: they were at the very end. We had a focus
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: group about twenty people. No, you weren't at this one,
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: and they said, uh um, they said, how many of
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: you this was random strangers? And they said, how many
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: of you feel like the ending was a little too pad?
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: But you know, the two lovers get together in the airport,
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: and I would say, like seventy of the hands went up,
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: and they said, okay, um, honey, how many of you
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: want them to be together? Every single hand went up.
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: So as the writer, you're trying and writer director, you're
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: trying to balance like you obviously want to you want
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: to make the audience happy, but you you also want
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: to subvert what they think they want a little bit.
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: Do you don't mean? Bill, you can speak to that,
- 1:07:01Speaker 1: because well, look, I'm as proud of the writing and
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: directing I did on Garden State as I am with
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: my podcast. Do you want to know? I want to know,
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: I want to know there are another funny story just
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: just while I'm on the subject. So this is the
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: story that's a total tangent. But in that same test screening, Now,
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: when when you when you test screen a movie in
- 1:07:22Speaker 1: your director you have to go because you have to
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: see where the audience is laughing, where they're board all
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: everything like that. Now, you would never invite an actor
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: who's in the movie to the test screen because there's
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: gonna be a focus group actor and you never know
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: what they're gonna say. They might say they don't like
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: that actor. You would never subject an actor to that.
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: But as a writer director, you have to be there.
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: So there's a focus group in the front row of
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: the movie theater, twenty people lined up. I'm six rows
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: back with my baseball hat down. I don't want to
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: spoil the sampling and have them know that I'm there.
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: And a girl raises her hand and the moderator calls
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: on on her and she goes, look, kudos to Zach
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: Braff for pulling this off. I just don't find him attractive.
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: And I'm sitting there. I'm sitting there like fighting my fist,
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: like this is the most All the producers are in
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: the in the road with me. They all look over
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: at me like, oh, ship, how did that feel? And
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: I'm like, not great? That that right? There is a hater.
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: That's all that is. Look, look she started the ship
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: off with kudos to Zach Braff pulling this off meeting.
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: This ship is fired, dude, this ship is fire. But
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: he's an ugly dude. Bullshit, dude. You know it's funny though.
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: This is I'm just thinking this out loud in real time.
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: But this is before like social media went crazy, and
- 1:08:48Speaker 1: this was sort of a live anonymous troll because she
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: hasn't know I'm in the room and she's anonymously trolling
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: me to the moderator, but I have to be there
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: because I'm the direct toward the movie. How do you whatever,
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: How do you guys fix that in the movie? How
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: do you fix it? Bake green screen? Those got more questions? Sorry.
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: First of all, I want to say, you're such a
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: fucking dick egg and be and be. We spent a
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: hundred grand and lessened my nose. We brought my We
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: brought my nose. I thought it was the green screen map. Yeah,
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: we we we we we We shot some angles where
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: my nose looked too big and that we wanted to
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: please that one fucking woman. All right, sorry, nor Nor,
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: I'm sorry, no problem, Okay, Zach. My next questions for you,
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: m Finally, so you've done a lot of like platforms
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: and and a lot of like funny falls throughout the
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: life time of the show. Which is your favorite to
- 1:09:56Speaker 1: shoot and which is the one that you thought came
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: out best on screen? That's a good question. That's a
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: good question. I'm gonna cheat a little, nor Um okay,
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: And I mean, can I can the scooter one in
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: the Wizard of Oz? Count Bill, I'll let you judge. Yes, yes,
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: just just don't say the string line one where you
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: end up in the garbage stuff. You've said it like
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: twenty times on this podcast. You know why? Nor? Because
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: that I don't know if you know this, but Zack
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: directed that one. Do you know this? You don't even
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: want the Wizard of the religiously and I know? Nor?
- 1:10:39Speaker 1: Oh my god, Nor are you very funny? First of all?
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: And I love the fact that you're you're such an
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: avid listener that you're like, please don't say the one
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: where you zip line because I've heard it. Not. By
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: the way, We're gonna be so funny when we get
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: deeper into this series, because we're only on season two
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: and she's one point five and people are already like,
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: please don't tell that story. I can't wait for that episode. Anyway, anyway,
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: nor I do love that episode, but I have to
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: say the funniest it's tactically not a pratfall, I guess,
- 1:11:10Speaker 1: but probably the funniest in Scrubs history. It's what Bill
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: always called our most expensive joke and the history of
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: Scrubs is when the scooter goes into the endless puddle
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: in the Wizard of Oz episode where I where I
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: clearly run into Julian the underground manate see who doesn't
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: exchange pleasantries? Um because um, it involved digging two very
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: deep holes. They were very expensive to build because the
- 1:11:37Speaker 1: city demanded they'd be built to code for safety, because
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: you can't just throw people in a hole that could collapse.
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: And um and as a director of the episode, uh,
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: we came up with the idea that it would be
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: a one er, which means we did this elaborate thing
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: where the stunt man is riding the scooter with his
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: with his helmet on into the first puddle. Um. The
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: camera keeps panning. They weren't really connected underground obviously, but
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: it pans to the second pile where I was hiding
- 1:12:06Speaker 1: out underwater. Um and and and and then one of
- 1:12:10Speaker 1: the one of the crew members with a hammer as
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: hard as he could banged on the asphalt so I
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: could hear it underground, which meant to pop up um
- 1:12:19Speaker 1: because the camera was on me. And uh. It was
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: very elaborate, and I still think one of the funniest
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: gags we did on Scrubs. Bill, you might want to
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: talk about it. You know why that gag is so
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: funny though, because manatees seemed like the happiest creatures in
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: the ocean, and the fact that the fact that he
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: wouldn't return pleasantries is one of the funniest. He was rude. Wait,
- 1:12:50Speaker 1: but Bill, talk about that from the writer's room, because
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: there's no way when you guys thought of that, you
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: could have possibly thought it was going to come out
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: as funny as it did. Because I think when we
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: thought of it, the most fun was Randall Winston, who's
- 1:13:02Speaker 1: been on the show and is you know, it's the
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: closest thing I have to a life partner besides my wife.
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: He is the line producer in charge of the budget,
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: and he came to us with the first estimates of
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: how much that joke cost. Yes, yes, look at you
- 1:13:15Speaker 1: and uh he uh came to us the first estimates
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: of how much that joke cost, and he said he
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: said it to me in a way that he obviously
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: felt so unfortunately we won't do it. And in my
- 1:13:25Speaker 1: head I was like, yeah, it feels like we should
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: still go for it, you know. And that was only
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: that was only a product of youth, because now I
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: think I would look at it and go, oh man,
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: we could have I guess, I don't know, purchased a
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: small home to give to somebody to live in for
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: the price of a joke, you know. But that's that's
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: movie and TV production, is Zach. I want to give
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: you props because Nora asked one of my favorite falls
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: of all time, I ran and we saw it when
- 1:13:53Speaker 1: I was searching for this episode. Do you remember what
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: you did when you were singing a song you made up,
- 1:13:58Speaker 1: going I'm feeling so good today. You know at that
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: he'll feel good, but nobody it's all So My favorite
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: is that Zack decided to click his heels and because
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: that's very hard to do, and then fall flat on
- 1:14:12Speaker 1: his face and get back up. And I've never seen
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: that was in a wonder as well, and it looks
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: so incredibly painful and so well done. I would vote
- 1:14:20Speaker 1: for that as well. I want you listeners to know
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: that I will do I would do anything to make
- 1:14:23Speaker 1: you guys laugh. I I still go to the chiropractor
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: as often as I can just because of all those years.
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: Thank you. So I I do it all for my fans.
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: Nor you gotta bring you gotta bring a question Donald's
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: way now, Oh sorry, don't. I'm gonna be honest with you.
- 1:14:38Speaker 1: My favorite pratfall is the one from the episode that
- 1:14:43Speaker 1: Zack directed. I hate to take because of what the
- 1:14:46Speaker 1: dude does. It's a stunt man that does it, but
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: after he hits the wall and how he shakes like
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: a fish in the air is one of the funniest
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: things I've ever I remember when he did it and laughed.
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: I was there the night that happened. I remember laughing
- 1:15:01Speaker 1: when it happened, and then seeing it on camera and
- 1:15:04Speaker 1: laughing it again at it again. So that's that directed?
- 1:15:08Speaker 1: That did you direct? That one's out, by the way,
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: I do have to simultaneously give a shout out to
- 1:15:15Speaker 1: to the many stuff man that that the several stuff
- 1:15:17Speaker 1: man that did it over the years, because there were
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: certain things I I definitely couldn't do or wasn't allowed
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: to do and um, and these guys were hilarious and
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: Donald Donald was right. I was not allowed to zip
- 1:15:29Speaker 1: line into the wall and line but you didn't line
- 1:15:34Speaker 1: zip line. I wasn't allowed to nail the wall. What
- 1:15:36Speaker 1: you also weren't allowed to drive an actual scooter that
- 1:15:40Speaker 1: had to be weighted down with lead so that you
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: would stay underwater in the first puddle while we went
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: over to the next puddle and you came up. Think
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: about that that stuntman had to hold his breath for
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: the whole shot, for that whole shot, Yeah, because he
- 1:15:52Speaker 1: had to go under with the scooter and stay under No, well, technically, Bill,
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: we panned off of him and then he could. Yeah,
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: but not right away, Zach, not right away. But I
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: have to say not to toot my own director horn.
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: But how many directors are directing from underwater in a
- 1:16:06Speaker 1: puddle where you can only here with a hammer on asphalts? Alright? Alright,
- 1:16:12Speaker 1: nor um um we have should we give her one more?
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: I have one? I have one more question. This one
- 1:16:20Speaker 1: is predominant because I've always wondered this at what Like
- 1:16:23Speaker 1: I said, of what up so many times and I
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: wanted to get perspective on this Do you wish that
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: your character had a longer run as a single on
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: the show instead of getting into a committed relationship right
- 1:16:34Speaker 1: off the bat. Yes, yes, yes, yes, I felt for
- 1:16:41Speaker 1: you so much. Yes, you know, I love it. I
- 1:16:44Speaker 1: love it. Donald has tiptoed around it. And Nora is
- 1:16:47Speaker 1: just like, come on, buddy, Beyond is a beautiful woman
- 1:16:53Speaker 1: and the connection that she and I have, the chemistry
- 1:16:57Speaker 1: that she and I have is by far the best
- 1:17:00Speaker 1: chemistry I've ever had with any female on on screen,
- 1:17:04Speaker 1: by far. I can. I can go down the list,
- 1:17:08Speaker 1: and nobody has ever been on the level that Judy
- 1:17:12Speaker 1: and I were on Uh, Comma, Comma comma. I do, however,
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: wish that Turk was a single four A little bit
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: by the way, and to at least season one and two.
- 1:17:29Speaker 1: Act No, I believe it was a product of youth.
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: And I'll say all the same caveats because Judy is
- 1:17:35Speaker 1: so good on the show and so funny and talented.
- 1:17:37Speaker 1: But I remember, and I might be making this up
- 1:17:40Speaker 1: in my head, but I remember as writers telling Judy
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: early on that Turk and Carla we're gonna be together
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: for the run of the show, and her being like Oh,
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: that's gonna be cool to have a steady relationship, to
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: be the ones that ground it, to explore what that means,
- 1:17:55Speaker 1: to meet, get married, stay together, have children, to follow
- 1:17:57Speaker 1: that whole arc. And Donald, who was a young at
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: the time, I do remember kind of telling you that,
- 1:18:02Speaker 1: and you're being like really as Amy Smart walks by
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: like morning, Donald, Um, all right, now, now, now you
- 1:18:19Speaker 1: know we have this new segment since you're an avid
- 1:18:22Speaker 1: fan of the podcast, where and Bill is going to
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: join us for the first time for a new segment
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: called fix your Life. Nor it's time to fix your life? Alright?
- 1:18:37Speaker 1: Nor how can we fix your life? Big or small?
- 1:18:39Speaker 1: We're gonna do it right now. You don't need to
- 1:18:40Speaker 1: pay for a therapist. You don't need to pay for
- 1:18:42Speaker 1: a handy man. We got it, Okay. Mike cap sutterly
- 1:18:46Speaker 1: scratches me a lot for no reason, especially at night,
- 1:18:49Speaker 1: especial if I haven't fallen asleep by his bedtime. How
- 1:18:51Speaker 1: they get him stop doing that? Okay, I can tell
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: you this one real quick. All right, this is this
- 1:18:59Speaker 1: is this is been a great episode to fix your life.
- 1:19:02Speaker 1: They're welcome or no, someone is not a cat person
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: and as allergic to cats, just getting rid of the
- 1:19:09Speaker 1: cat um nor. I don't know too much about cats.
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: I gotta be honest. I'm more of a dog person,
- 1:19:16Speaker 1: and i've I've I've raised a coup on puppies now,
- 1:19:19Speaker 1: so I have some experience with puppies. I do know.
- 1:19:23Speaker 1: Have you tried now with with puppies. There's a canned
- 1:19:26Speaker 1: air thing that they hate. If you do that canned
- 1:19:29Speaker 1: air noise, They're like, I will never do what you
- 1:19:32Speaker 1: what I just did again if you just promise not
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: to make that can so I would try canned air.
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: Another thing is a water gun. Um you can sometimes,
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: I don't. Most most pets do not like getting blasted
- 1:19:43Speaker 1: with a water gun to the face. Also, there's uh,
- 1:19:46Speaker 1: I mean, we've we've made jokes about everything on Scrubs.
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: But there's also this one episode that we did in
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: which Zach goes down a zip line and I think
- 1:19:54Speaker 1: he directed that one. That no easy to take because
- 1:20:03Speaker 1: now I'm going to be really in my head about
- 1:20:08Speaker 1: about mentioning that episode. I mean, I love it. I
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: love it. My only thing is that I just didn't
- 1:20:15Speaker 1: want you to say that that was your best Okay.
- 1:20:22Speaker 1: I truly believe that if you want to make it
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: so the cat stop scratching you. You gotta get rid
- 1:20:28Speaker 1: of that cat. Donald is joking on behalf of pet
- 1:20:35Speaker 1: lovers everywhere. You're going to keep that cat and you're
- 1:20:37Speaker 1: going to tame him. You're going to tame him and yeah,
- 1:20:41Speaker 1: he's awesome. So trying to try the pet corrector and
- 1:20:45Speaker 1: or a water gun and uh, and I guarantee you
- 1:20:48Speaker 1: that we have just fixed your life. You're welcome, you guys,
- 1:20:52Speaker 1: You're welcome. Alright, You're it's been an extraordinarily long segment
- 1:20:57Speaker 1: because you've been so darn charming. We thank you come
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: on the show. Nor come back and report on your life.
- 1:21:03Speaker 1: I think what you're doing is so cool and interesting
- 1:21:06Speaker 1: and um, I bet you these guys would love to
- 1:21:10Speaker 1: hear it. And if you do, it is free mugs
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: for your whole family. And thank oh my god, thank you.
- 1:21:16Speaker 1: I have fifty nine people in my family. Just I understand.
- 1:21:20Speaker 1: I understand Nor Nor. In a year and a half,
- 1:21:25Speaker 1: when the mug that Joel is gonna put in the
- 1:21:27Speaker 1: mail tomorrow, I hope your mugat that mug is gonna
- 1:21:39Speaker 1: arrive with like seventeen thousand absentee ballots in the exactly
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: one year from now. Because it's a little trick, all right.
- 1:21:52Speaker 1: I just want to say, do you want to thank
- 1:21:53Speaker 1: you so much? If there was no COVID, I would
- 1:21:55Speaker 1: see you on the mouth because I love you so much.
- 1:21:57Speaker 1: Things this happened, you will getting probably, thank you, thank you,
- 1:22:02Speaker 1: Thank God. I love you guys so much. And give
- 1:22:08Speaker 1: it up for Nor. What a great movie. By the way,
- 1:22:18Speaker 1: that's the that's the best. Uh. That is the best
- 1:22:22Speaker 1: guest at least in the ones I've been on here
- 1:22:24Speaker 1: for that I gotten to be a part of. And
- 1:22:26Speaker 1: they're all so awesome that it was amazing. Let's take
- 1:22:28Speaker 1: a break. We'll be right back after these fine words
- 1:22:41Speaker 1: you guys. I don't think Donald's ever had as much
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: fun as he did. Opening Norse segment, we just con
- 1:22:48Speaker 1: con I get it. It's a fun line to say,
- 1:22:51Speaker 1: did you do you guys know that Zach directed the
- 1:22:54Speaker 1: episode with the zip line his new information kid, I
- 1:22:59Speaker 1: justest Nor, You're seriously the greatest. Uh. Coming up next,
- 1:23:05Speaker 1: we have a fan who actually did not come to
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: me through our email address. Funny enough, she came to
- 1:23:12Speaker 1: me through Twitter with a picture of her I'm no
- 1:23:16Speaker 1: Superman tattoo I knew instantly I had to have this
- 1:23:20Speaker 1: person on the pod. Her name is Katie. She had
- 1:23:25Speaker 1: a super oh my gosh, gooey, lovey romantic question about
- 1:23:31Speaker 1: her future wife that just melted my heart. But also
- 1:23:35Speaker 1: she was just so genuinely gracious and like excited to
- 1:23:38Speaker 1: be on the show. And plus she did our plugs
- 1:23:42Speaker 1: for us so much better than we ever could. So
- 1:23:46Speaker 1: I put Katie at the end of this show so
- 1:23:48Speaker 1: we could hear her plugs one more time and just
- 1:23:50Speaker 1: appreciate this love e, gooey, gorgeous like message of thanks
- 1:23:55Speaker 1: right before our holiday weekend. So enjoy, guys. Oh and
- 1:24:00Speaker 1: we're back, and we're back with what is your Name?
- 1:24:06Speaker 1: It's Katie. Katie is on the line. She is going
- 1:24:12Speaker 1: to a little bit of introducing introduction for Katie before
- 1:24:19Speaker 1: we get started. A while ago, you guys were really
- 1:24:22Speaker 1: into the song I ran down the ramp viral sensation
- 1:24:25Speaker 1: and he made a video where you guys were with
- 1:24:29Speaker 1: j D running down the brand your video. And she
- 1:24:37Speaker 1: also has a scrubs tattoo. Let me see. Let's see
- 1:24:42Speaker 1: the tattoo. You want to see it, Okay, if it's sharable,
- 1:24:45Speaker 1: I don't know what it is. It is. It's on
- 1:24:47Speaker 1: my rib cage. But I will keep it PG. I promise,
- 1:24:50Speaker 1: let me just see. I gotta flip this. Okay, okay,
- 1:24:54Speaker 1: there's nothing's gonna be shown. I promise Katy is not
- 1:24:58Speaker 1: flashing us viewers. Oh oh wow, it says I'm no
- 1:25:01Speaker 1: sa in the Scrubs fonts. So cool. That is really cool.
- 1:25:06Speaker 1: That's very cool. So I was hoping for my face.
- 1:25:09Speaker 1: But hey, you know, um, Katie, you are the perfect
- 1:25:13Speaker 1: guest because not only does it seem like you are
- 1:25:15Speaker 1: a big Scrubs fan, I am also seeing lots of
- 1:25:18Speaker 1: Star Wars memorability happening in your room, so Donald will
- 1:25:21Speaker 1: be able to dial into that. Yeah, huge, huge Star
- 1:25:25Speaker 1: Wars fan. Are you a Mandalorian fan? Yeah? Are you excited?
- 1:25:30Speaker 1: Manian fan? Know right? You gotta be select some weirdo
- 1:25:33Speaker 1: from like Jariar do to not Yeah? Yeah no, no, no, done, done?
- 1:25:51Speaker 1: Thank you? Let him go. Let him know he just
- 1:25:56Speaker 1: made the baby on latch again. Uh, Katie, tell us
- 1:25:59Speaker 1: where you're calling from. I am from Windsor, Ontario, Canada,
- 1:26:02Speaker 1: which is a small little city right across from Detroit, Michigan.
- 1:26:06Speaker 1: Right it's it's it's near Vancouver. Right, Oh god, no,
- 1:26:10Speaker 1: no Winds not Whistler windsor you're from windsor wow, it's
- 1:26:16Speaker 1: is it named after windsor where the windsor castle is?
- 1:26:19Speaker 1: I think so we have a lot of like Southwestern
- 1:26:21Speaker 1: Ontario has a lot of European inspired names, like we
- 1:26:24Speaker 1: have a Paris London windsor uh like all kinds of
- 1:26:28Speaker 1: So if you can't go to Europe, just come to
- 1:26:29Speaker 1: southwestern Ontario. It's not even close to the same thing.
- 1:26:33Speaker 1: Are there are the towns just named that? Or is
- 1:26:35Speaker 1: there any sort of monument castoly kind of things? I
- 1:26:39Speaker 1: think they're just named that. To be honest, would you
- 1:26:42Speaker 1: say that you live in the middle of bumble fuck?
- 1:26:45Speaker 1: It's not quite bumble fuck, but it had has been
- 1:26:47Speaker 1: called the butthole of Canada just because if you look
- 1:26:50Speaker 1: at the map, the very very very bottom, that's us,
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: Like we are the southernmost city. We're actually we're a
- 1:26:56Speaker 1: lot more south than like a lot of the northern
- 1:26:59Speaker 1: United States. I never understood that analogy where you call
- 1:27:02Speaker 1: something that's so far south the butt hole, because the
- 1:27:06Speaker 1: butt hole isn't the furthest thing south on your body.
- 1:27:08Speaker 1: If it is, if you're if you're sitting, or if
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: you're in the fetal position. Even if you're sitting, your
- 1:27:14Speaker 1: feet are still the furthest thing south if you're in yoga,
- 1:27:18Speaker 1: if that yoga position I got happy baby, Well then yes,
- 1:27:22Speaker 1: then yes Katie. Now you you are a good editor
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: because you made a very funny video about she cut
- 1:27:32Speaker 1: She cut Katie by the way, how how do people
- 1:27:34Speaker 1: find that video if they want to watch it? It's
- 1:27:36Speaker 1: on my Twitter at Katie Rizzia. It's pinned right to
- 1:27:39Speaker 1: the top. And Katie's last name is felt r I
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: z e A. Um. She cut Donald and I love
- 1:27:45Speaker 1: the Ramp song and she cut images of scrub Is,
- 1:27:48Speaker 1: particularly us running down the hospital exterior ramp to the
- 1:27:52Speaker 1: song masterfully. Are you My question is are you interested?
- 1:27:56Speaker 1: You seem like a young person. Are you studying filmmaking
- 1:27:59Speaker 1: or you just naturally good that kind of stuff? I didn't.
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: I never really studied it. I just I always kind
- 1:28:04Speaker 1: of liked the creative aspect of things, making photos like
- 1:28:06Speaker 1: I do kind of photography on the side. I've always
- 1:28:08Speaker 1: loved video editing. Um, I never really pursued a career
- 1:28:11Speaker 1: in it, but I do it on the side for fun.
- 1:28:13Speaker 1: Like all the time. Well you're good at it because
- 1:28:15Speaker 1: you certainly made us laugh and uh, and we appreciate it.
- 1:28:19Speaker 1: What what do you want to do? What are you pursuing? Uh?
- 1:28:22Speaker 1: My career, I suppose is I'm a office administrator. Um
- 1:28:25Speaker 1: so I work at a local college. I run the
- 1:28:27Speaker 1: health insurance and run the food bank I run. I'm
- 1:28:29Speaker 1: pretty much like the first space that they see when
- 1:28:32Speaker 1: they walk in and I'm like hello, and I just
- 1:28:34Speaker 1: do my best to solve pretty much any problem they have,
- 1:28:36Speaker 1: whether it has anything to do with me or not.
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: I love you what you do and solve problems. Man,
- 1:28:48Speaker 1: the world needs more. UK. He prefers to be for you.
- 1:28:53Speaker 1: He prefers to be off television. Scott, Yeah, please call
- 1:28:56Speaker 1: him TV listen. I have a really quick question, um,
- 1:29:01Speaker 1: Scott Foley, what do you like? What kind of TV s? Sorry?
- 1:29:07Speaker 1: What kind of water do you drink? Where you don't
- 1:29:10Speaker 1: age in twenty years? Oh god, this is what we
- 1:29:12Speaker 1: just talked about. Katie. I know, why don't people write
- 1:29:16Speaker 1: that on my way here? The amount of gray happening.
- 1:29:19Speaker 1: It's a gray beard, dude, It's not a gray face.
- 1:29:23Speaker 1: By the way, Katie, Katie weren't on the beginning of this.
- 1:29:25Speaker 1: So I have to tell you that this this podcast
- 1:29:28Speaker 1: began with Donald and I posted this video today and
- 1:29:30Speaker 1: they said about Donald, Wow, he doesn't age. Wow, Zach,
- 1:29:34Speaker 1: look at his wrinkles. And now you're talking about Mr
- 1:29:37Speaker 1: Foley saying what kind of water does he drink? Because
- 1:29:40Speaker 1: he doesn't age. The man's older than me but looks
- 1:29:43Speaker 1: like he could be my son. That's a very kind
- 1:29:46Speaker 1: of you, Katie and Za very kind of both of you.
- 1:29:50Speaker 1: Uh what the kind of water doesn't matter, Katie, just
- 1:29:53Speaker 1: drink a lot of it. Yeah, And do you use lotion?
- 1:29:55Speaker 1: Scott to use facial lotion? This is embarrassing. So last
- 1:29:59Speaker 1: night I'm putting on some I cream before I get
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: to bed, and I say to my wife, Hey, do
- 1:30:03Speaker 1: a lot of dudes do this? And without hesitation, she
- 1:30:07Speaker 1: was like, no other dude does this? They do you
- 1:30:10Speaker 1: got a moisturize, That's what I'm told. By the way,
- 1:30:12Speaker 1: my girlfriend she's always putting lotion on me. She's pro
- 1:30:17Speaker 1: definitely doesn't want you looking on It feels nice, though,
- 1:30:19Speaker 1: I kind of don't do lotion because I know she's
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: gonna come round after she does hers with the excess,
- 1:30:23Speaker 1: like oh that must be great. I get the excess.
- 1:30:26Speaker 1: Do you get the smack in the face to like
- 1:30:28Speaker 1: the type? Yeah? Because you know when you need to
- 1:30:30Speaker 1: put facial lotion on and then you have extra right now,
- 1:30:32Speaker 1: some people like me, I just put it on my
- 1:30:34Speaker 1: on my my, my back for some reason, the smaller back, right,
- 1:30:38Speaker 1: It's my instinct. But my girlfriend comes around with her
- 1:30:40Speaker 1: extra and and and gives it to my face. It's nice, Katy.
- 1:30:43Speaker 1: Let's get out of here. This is getting weird, Katie.
- 1:30:47Speaker 1: Do you even have a question for for TV? Scott
- 1:30:50Speaker 1: Folly or or clueless? Is Donald? Phase on her eye? Why?
- 1:30:54Speaker 1: I gotta be clueless? Is Donald? I don't know your
- 1:30:56Speaker 1: most famous film? I just went with it. Well, I
- 1:30:58Speaker 1: remember the Titans. Never remember the Titans. Okay, do you
- 1:31:01Speaker 1: have a question for remember the Titans? Is Donald? No? No, no, no,
- 1:31:04Speaker 1: the guy Denzel Washington's co star. Remember you have a
- 1:31:09Speaker 1: question for Denzel Washington's best friend and co star? I
- 1:31:14Speaker 1: like that. I like that. I like that. Yeah, I
- 1:31:17Speaker 1: mean like obviously several questions. Um before I have to
- 1:31:20Speaker 1: first of all say thank you to Cole Lattisa on
- 1:31:22Speaker 1: Twitter because he's the one who tagged me in Joel's
- 1:31:24Speaker 1: tweet looking for me for my tattoo, So if he
- 1:31:26Speaker 1: didn't tag me, I might have never seen it, and
- 1:31:28Speaker 1: I prot him here right on, you're here, thank you,
- 1:31:31Speaker 1: thank you. So first question kind of lighthearted. Um, this
- 1:31:34Speaker 1: has been my question since the very beginning, but um,
- 1:31:37Speaker 1: it's about So It's actually also kind of timely because
- 1:31:39Speaker 1: you guys just watched this episode not too long ago.
- 1:31:42Speaker 1: So if you guys woke up one morning and you
- 1:31:44Speaker 1: see an article from the news that says Bill Lawrence
- 1:31:47Speaker 1: has just released never before seen footage of Nurse Roberts
- 1:31:52Speaker 1: is above ground pool party, what do you guys believe
- 1:31:55Speaker 1: in your heart is going to be on that footage.
- 1:32:00Speaker 1: I think I think they're exing their faces off. I
- 1:32:03Speaker 1: think Nurse Roberts. I think Nurse Roberts has some m
- 1:32:11Speaker 1: D m A and everyone is just fucking grinding on
- 1:32:15Speaker 1: each other. Oh my gosh, that is an epic above
- 1:32:19Speaker 1: ground pool party. That is an epic of I think
- 1:32:24Speaker 1: that only happens on the in ground pool party. I
- 1:32:28Speaker 1: don't know, but that's a great question because we know
- 1:32:30Speaker 1: we know this fact. They were always off the hook.
- 1:32:33Speaker 1: They were crazy, ship went down at these things. People
- 1:32:36Speaker 1: like some fights, people got choked out. Yeah, you know
- 1:32:39Speaker 1: what I mean. People hooked up. We know, people hooked up,
- 1:32:41Speaker 1: people hooked up. Yeah, yeah, I don't know. I don't
- 1:32:45Speaker 1: what do I think would be in Oh wow, I'm sure. Wow,
- 1:32:49Speaker 1: I'll tell you what. That's a great question. If you know,
- 1:32:51Speaker 1: we got don't know, I get tagged and a lot
- 1:32:53Speaker 1: of fan art on Instagram. And if you're an artist
- 1:32:55Speaker 1: and you want to do a doodle, do what you
- 1:32:58Speaker 1: imagine is happening at Nurse Roberts is above ground poolpo
- 1:33:02Speaker 1: Oh my god, this is gonna be so gnarly. People
- 1:33:04Speaker 1: are gonna put the gnarliest things you've ever seen in
- 1:33:06Speaker 1: your life, go crazy, and then we'll we'll put some
- 1:33:08Speaker 1: on our stories. Although Joel has to freaking cypher through
- 1:33:12Speaker 1: all of this. Man, No, no, no, no, no, they're
- 1:33:14Speaker 1: gonna they're gonna know, they're gonna tag us on Instagram,
- 1:33:16Speaker 1: so they'll show up in our feed and then yeah,
- 1:33:20Speaker 1: and then well, you know, don't, don't don't have the pleasure. Yeah, don't. Well, actually,
- 1:33:24Speaker 1: I'm not gonna give you any restrictions. Go nuts, what
- 1:33:26Speaker 1: is happening? And Robert, you know, Instagram will give you restrictions.
- 1:33:33Speaker 1: Let's put it down. Instagram will give you restrictions. Well, yeah,
- 1:33:35Speaker 1: I mean, don't don't have like cocks flying and everything.
- 1:33:38Speaker 1: If they are, have them be hidden behind Wait wait
- 1:33:40Speaker 1: wait wait wait what I'm saying like, be be crazy.
- 1:33:45Speaker 1: But if they if someone goes and draws like penises flying,
- 1:33:48Speaker 1: we'll have to like blur it. Probably you can't put
- 1:33:50Speaker 1: that in our story or not. Remember mama being two
- 1:33:54Speaker 1: p G not at at all. You're on not being
- 1:34:00Speaker 1: PG at all. Dude. Someone went and put Donald, me
- 1:34:04Speaker 1: and Johnny sees heads on a on a on a
- 1:34:06Speaker 1: gay porn still and um, it's hilarious. I sent it
- 1:34:10Speaker 1: to Donald and Johnny c um word everybody else it's
- 1:34:19Speaker 1: not because it's but Johnny wrote something so back like
- 1:34:25Speaker 1: oh my god. Johnny wrote back something like, oh my god, Zachie,
- 1:34:28Speaker 1: what have you done? And I started to think. I
- 1:34:31Speaker 1: started to think that he thought that I made it right,
- 1:34:34Speaker 1: like like I always sitting at home on my photoshop.
- 1:34:43Speaker 1: All right, Katie, do you have another question? Yeah? And
- 1:34:46Speaker 1: I hope it's okay you all. I just thought of
- 1:34:48Speaker 1: this earlier and that's not the one we talked about. Okay, Okay,
- 1:34:52Speaker 1: So I this one is a little bit more I
- 1:34:54Speaker 1: guess serious, not really serious. Um. Most shows and like
- 1:34:57Speaker 1: a lot of TV shows, most often comedies, they tend
- 1:35:00Speaker 1: to like run beyond their course, so to speak, and
- 1:35:03Speaker 1: Scrubs up eight seasons was like perfect, it didn't go
- 1:35:06Speaker 1: too long. So I'm just wondering what the feel on
- 1:35:09Speaker 1: set was for you guys, Like how did you find
- 1:35:11Speaker 1: out that season eight was ending? Like how did they
- 1:35:15Speaker 1: tell you? And like how did that feel filming the
- 1:35:17Speaker 1: last of it? Knowing this is it? Like this is
- 1:35:20Speaker 1: the end? Well, you know. The crazy thing is we
- 1:35:22Speaker 1: never really other than season two and three, we never
- 1:35:25Speaker 1: really knew what our fate was at the end of
- 1:35:28Speaker 1: every season. It wasn't until around you know, right before
- 1:35:32Speaker 1: upfronts where they announced all of the new fall shows,
- 1:35:35Speaker 1: that we found out we were coming back for most
- 1:35:37Speaker 1: of the uh time while we were making Scrubs and
- 1:35:42Speaker 1: if you recall, season eight isn't I don't know if
- 1:35:45Speaker 1: you know this, but season eight isn't even on the
- 1:35:47Speaker 1: original network that Scrubs was on. So every year felt like, well,
- 1:35:52Speaker 1: this could be it. I hope I get to see
- 1:35:54Speaker 1: you next fall, you know what I mean? Or I
- 1:35:56Speaker 1: go bige to see you in the summer. When it
- 1:35:58Speaker 1: was announced that it was finally over, that season eight
- 1:36:02Speaker 1: was going to be the last episode of Scrubs as
- 1:36:06Speaker 1: we knew it, that was kind of it was kind
- 1:36:08Speaker 1: of like one of those things where you I didn't
- 1:36:10Speaker 1: believe it until, you know what I mean, until it
- 1:36:13Speaker 1: was over, and then there was this long pause in between,
- 1:36:15Speaker 1: and then we went and did the The Interns Show.
- 1:36:19Speaker 1: But for the longest time, I honestly believed that, yeah, sure,
- 1:36:23Speaker 1: this is the last season, but we'll be back next season,
- 1:36:26Speaker 1: you know what I mean. And so I you know,
- 1:36:29Speaker 1: a lot of people talk about how uh emotional they
- 1:36:33Speaker 1: were when we were making the season final, the series finale.
- 1:36:37Speaker 1: I don't know if you remember, Zach, I wasn't necessarily
- 1:36:39Speaker 1: that emotional. Everybody else was really emotional. I still thought
- 1:36:42Speaker 1: we'd be back next season, and believe it or not,
- 1:36:44Speaker 1: I was so wrong, but you know, so in doing it,
- 1:36:47Speaker 1: I didn't. I wasn't as emotional as everybody else was.
- 1:36:50Speaker 1: Sarah was very emotional. I remember that. I was very emotional,
- 1:36:53Speaker 1: but I I feel like I wanted a new chapter
- 1:36:57Speaker 1: of my life. I was so blessed. I mean, I
- 1:37:01Speaker 1: was so clear how lucky we were. I was so
- 1:37:03Speaker 1: blessed for the opportunity and and for how the show
- 1:37:06Speaker 1: changed our life, and for the incredible support we have
- 1:37:10Speaker 1: from this most loyal and amazing fan base. But I
- 1:37:13Speaker 1: think I and Bill would probably say it was time
- 1:37:18Speaker 1: to like try something new. And Scott can speak to
- 1:37:21Speaker 1: this because he's done very long runs on shows, and
- 1:37:24Speaker 1: you kind of go like, this is amazing, and I'm
- 1:37:27Speaker 1: so clear, I'm lucky. Yeah, I do want my life
- 1:37:29Speaker 1: to have other chapters. For me, I wanted to have
- 1:37:33Speaker 1: a family, and and it's very hard. It was hard
- 1:37:35Speaker 1: for me to maintain relationships and build not just romantic
- 1:37:39Speaker 1: relationships but friendships because of the time I spent um
- 1:37:43Speaker 1: in the abandoned hospital, and I I wanted to sort
- 1:37:46Speaker 1: of take that to a new chapter. I wanted to
- 1:37:49Speaker 1: make more movies and and and do more filmmaking. So
- 1:37:52Speaker 1: I felt so grateful and I was so sad, But
- 1:37:54Speaker 1: at the time I felt like I want, I wanted
- 1:37:58Speaker 1: something new to to start. You must have I was
- 1:38:02Speaker 1: gonna I was gonna ask you, Scott, because Scandal ran
- 1:38:04Speaker 1: a really long time, Felicity had a really nice run,
- 1:38:06Speaker 1: the unit had a really nice run, like, all of
- 1:38:08Speaker 1: these shows that you were on, you've experienced, uh ending
- 1:38:12Speaker 1: for a lot of shows. Have all of them gone
- 1:38:14Speaker 1: out on first the terms that you guys wanted it
- 1:38:18Speaker 1: to go out on, and second, how are you feeling
- 1:38:20Speaker 1: when you got to that point. I don't think any
- 1:38:23Speaker 1: of them have gone out on the terms that you
- 1:38:26Speaker 1: want them to go out on. You know, television is
- 1:38:29Speaker 1: the kind of business the television is is is you
- 1:38:31Speaker 1: wanted to run forever? Right? Paycheck? Good group of people, um,
- 1:38:36Speaker 1: And you know, I think I think everyone from the
- 1:38:39Speaker 1: actors to the writers to the crew is like, oh wow,
- 1:38:42Speaker 1: that's I gotta go look for a job now, which
- 1:38:44Speaker 1: is never fun. Um. But I think there is a
- 1:38:50Speaker 1: certain feeling when you've done a hundred plus episodes of
- 1:38:53Speaker 1: a TV show that runs through everybody's head. And I
- 1:38:57Speaker 1: think everybody has some similar feeling, which is this has
- 1:39:03Speaker 1: been great. If this keeps going, is this all I'm
- 1:39:06Speaker 1: going to do? And that's not necessarily a bad thing,
- 1:39:08Speaker 1: but I want to try something else. But there is
- 1:39:12Speaker 1: also like I'm not done with it yet, you know,
- 1:39:14Speaker 1: like because ultimately it's not us. With the exception scandal,
- 1:39:19Speaker 1: Shonda Rhymes was the person who said, the show is done.
- 1:39:23Speaker 1: I don't want to write anymore. The show has had
- 1:39:25Speaker 1: a great arc and the characters I've told the stories
- 1:39:29Speaker 1: I want to tell, and that's it. I think had
- 1:39:32Speaker 1: the network had their way, the show would have gone
- 1:39:34Speaker 1: on for another ten years because it was doing so well.
- 1:39:36Speaker 1: Um but but it's always Katie. It's always um sad.
- 1:39:41Speaker 1: And you know, these are people that you you get
- 1:39:44Speaker 1: to know really well. And you guys can speak to
- 1:39:46Speaker 1: this as well. You become really close there your family,
- 1:39:48Speaker 1: You see them more than you do your friends. All
- 1:39:51Speaker 1: my friends know that. When I'm on a TV show,
- 1:39:53Speaker 1: I disappear for nine months and it's you know, it's
- 1:39:57Speaker 1: kind of who I am and what you gotta do
- 1:39:58Speaker 1: with It's an amazing um uh, you're so lucky to
- 1:40:01Speaker 1: have it happen, but you do sacrifice a bunch of things,
- 1:40:04Speaker 1: um like I can. That's coming as a guy who
- 1:40:07Speaker 1: doesn't have children yet like these guys too. I mean,
- 1:40:10Speaker 1: Donald had to go on his last show and be
- 1:40:12Speaker 1: in Jersey City with his family in Los Angeles and
- 1:40:15Speaker 1: being hard from his kids for that long, and that
- 1:40:17Speaker 1: was really really really hard on on everybody except for
- 1:40:21Speaker 1: his wife. Yeah, she was so happy. I was gone.
- 1:40:24Speaker 1: She was cranking. Don't stop believing. I came back home
- 1:40:30Speaker 1: and my wife was like, oh, no, that's not how
- 1:40:31Speaker 1: we do that. Like I did one thing, She's like, no,
- 1:40:34Speaker 1: that's not how we do things here. That's brutal. Yeah, brutal.
- 1:40:38Speaker 1: It happens to me too. Who do you what do
- 1:40:39Speaker 1: you think you're doing? This is how we do it. Now.
- 1:40:42Speaker 1: I had to go through the crash course of how
- 1:40:44Speaker 1: to live in my own house. It was, oh, that's
- 1:40:47Speaker 1: not how we do think that. My mom is a
- 1:40:50Speaker 1: as a psychologist and has done a lot of marriage counseling,
- 1:40:52Speaker 1: and she said, one of the most common things couples
- 1:40:55Speaker 1: fight about is how to load the dishwasher. What right,
- 1:41:00Speaker 1: I don't have that problem. I don't that problem because
- 1:41:02Speaker 1: you don't do it. I thought the dishwashing she was
- 1:41:08Speaker 1: just giving. She was an examing example of like thing
- 1:41:11Speaker 1: that couples argue about, and then a big one. You're
- 1:41:14Speaker 1: not supposed to tell you. That's exactly right, Scott. You're
- 1:41:17Speaker 1: not supposed to tell anybody how to do If you
- 1:41:19Speaker 1: tell me how to do it, I'll stop doing it. Right,
- 1:41:20Speaker 1: I'm not gonna I'm gonna keep going, right, Oh no,
- 1:41:25Speaker 1: that's not how you put the trash can in the
- 1:41:27Speaker 1: trash the trash bag in the trash can. All right,
- 1:41:29Speaker 1: didn't you do the ship? Then you got it? That's
- 1:41:31Speaker 1: what I thought. You got it. You got it. Cut
- 1:41:34Speaker 1: to Donald being like, yes, we heard hold over the corners.
- 1:41:40Speaker 1: All right, Katie, it's time for Canada's favorite segment. It's
- 1:41:45Speaker 1: time to wait, hold on, let's do it again, Katie,
- 1:41:49Speaker 1: It's time to fix your Sorry if the baby was latching. Uh, Katie,
- 1:42:00Speaker 1: We we really really have are transforming the world with
- 1:42:03Speaker 1: this second. We're transforming every little corner. Oprah doesn't have
- 1:42:07Speaker 1: shit on us. Why because we are really helping way
- 1:42:11Speaker 1: more than she ever did on her little show. Well,
- 1:42:15Speaker 1: I want to know. I want to know that Joel
- 1:42:17Speaker 1: just looked away and rolled their eyes. That was that?
- 1:42:21Speaker 1: Was that? That? That is not my opinion of it either.
- 1:42:25Speaker 1: So please don't I love that you guys think that
- 1:42:27Speaker 1: Oprah is listening and writing your names on a list
- 1:42:29Speaker 1: of people that not hang out with. Listen. You have
- 1:42:35Speaker 1: both Donald and you are like listen, Oprah. In case
- 1:42:37Speaker 1: you're listening, that is not me. Sorry, listen, Joel, you
- 1:42:40Speaker 1: gotta let him think he's Opra because then we might
- 1:42:42Speaker 1: all get a car. Yes. Oh, by the way, we
- 1:42:46Speaker 1: are going to give a special treat out today, I
- 1:42:47Speaker 1: think Joel. Right, yes, okay, we'll save that from the end. Um,
- 1:42:52Speaker 1: all right, Katie, go ahead, it's better than that. All right, Katie,
- 1:42:59Speaker 1: go ahead with or questioned. Okay, so I did think
- 1:43:02Speaker 1: of something. I was racking my brain because I mean,
- 1:43:04Speaker 1: I don't want to sound like an asshole. But I'm
- 1:43:07Speaker 1: very blessed. My life's pretty great right now. But I
- 1:43:09Speaker 1: do welcome Katie just fixed. That's the shortest segment we
- 1:43:16Speaker 1: ever did. Good work. Uh No, it's a rare opportunity
- 1:43:21Speaker 1: for you guys to fix my future life because um,
- 1:43:24Speaker 1: I'm getting married next year, thank you. And it actually
- 1:43:30Speaker 1: it's in California, so you guys can all come through.
- 1:43:33Speaker 1: We'll be there. You invite me, Invite me as long
- 1:43:36Speaker 1: as the bouze is free. Invite me. You are all invited.
- 1:43:40Speaker 1: You can carry me down the aisle. I don't want
- 1:43:43Speaker 1: to do all that I didn't want. I don't want
- 1:43:46Speaker 1: to be I don't I don't want to do manual labor,
- 1:43:49Speaker 1: the flower girl, throw the flowers. I just want to
- 1:43:52Speaker 1: be there. I just want to be there. I want
- 1:43:54Speaker 1: to be there, have a drink and leave. Okay, that's fine,
- 1:43:58Speaker 1: we can do that. So my question to you guys,
- 1:44:01Speaker 1: and like all all of you would just be how
- 1:44:04Speaker 1: like what would your advice be to me? To just
- 1:44:07Speaker 1: be like the best possible partner I can be to
- 1:44:10Speaker 1: my fiance. Um, she is the most amazing person ever.
- 1:44:14Speaker 1: She's my best friend. She's so beautiful and I just
- 1:44:17Speaker 1: want to make her happy forever. Oh God, I will say,
- 1:44:22Speaker 1: I'm gonna say one thing and one thing only, alright,
- 1:44:25Speaker 1: But a taf patience is so important. That is the
- 1:44:33Speaker 1: most important thing you can have. My wife has the
- 1:44:36Speaker 1: most patience out of anybody I've ever met in my life,
- 1:44:40Speaker 1: because if I had to deal with someone like me,
- 1:44:43Speaker 1: I would freaking not I leave me. I would leave
- 1:44:48Speaker 1: me if I had to deal with me. And so
- 1:44:51Speaker 1: my wife is one of the most patient people on
- 1:44:53Speaker 1: the planet and loves me unconditionally. And if you got
- 1:44:57Speaker 1: that in you, there's nothing that can be done. Well,
- 1:45:02Speaker 1: I shouldn't say that, there's very little that could be
- 1:45:04Speaker 1: done to ruin your relationship. My wife's tolerance of my
- 1:45:08Speaker 1: bullshit is what keeps our relationship a fluid all right,
- 1:45:14Speaker 1: Scott Fully, you are married with children in a successful relationship.
- 1:45:17Speaker 1: What's your advice, Oh, man, Uh, I think patience is
- 1:45:23Speaker 1: a good one. I would I would urge you to
- 1:45:27Speaker 1: listen to not just what they're saying, but how your
- 1:45:32Speaker 1: fiance is saying it and why they're saying it. You
- 1:45:35Speaker 1: know why. I found, uh, through uh much trial and
- 1:45:40Speaker 1: error that when my wife is telling me something or
- 1:45:45Speaker 1: angry at something or or frustrated about something, uh, listening
- 1:45:51Speaker 1: to that and not it's the hardest thing for me.
- 1:45:53Speaker 1: Not trying to fix it, um, which a lot of
- 1:45:57Speaker 1: men try to do. And you don't seem to have
- 1:45:59Speaker 1: that problem, I don't think, um. But but just listening
- 1:46:06Speaker 1: and um and not try to fix whatever the problem
- 1:46:12Speaker 1: might be is sometimes the best way to go because
- 1:46:16Speaker 1: a lot of the times my wife doesn't want me
- 1:46:18Speaker 1: to fix it, or it's it's not fixable. Um, it's
- 1:46:21Speaker 1: just a matter of being there for someone. UM. I'm
- 1:46:26Speaker 1: not married. But one thing I think really helps me
- 1:46:29Speaker 1: when I'm communicating in relationships, and this goes for not
- 1:46:33Speaker 1: just from any relationship, not just romantic relationships, is being
- 1:46:37Speaker 1: able to admit when you're wrong. I think people automatically
- 1:46:40Speaker 1: as human beings. We shift into defend what you did
- 1:46:43Speaker 1: at all costs, and there's so much power in being
- 1:46:48Speaker 1: able to take responsibility and truly listening to the person
- 1:46:52Speaker 1: and it might not be, uh, what you intended, it
- 1:46:55Speaker 1: may not have been what you thought you said, but
- 1:46:58Speaker 1: whatever it is that had them because of the way
- 1:47:01Speaker 1: they experienced it, you can go. There's so much power
- 1:47:04Speaker 1: I have found being able to go, Okay, I'm just
- 1:47:07Speaker 1: giving you a random example that is certainly not what
- 1:47:10Speaker 1: I intended, and I'm very sorry that that that made
- 1:47:13Speaker 1: you feel that way, and I apologize if that's if
- 1:47:16Speaker 1: that's how it came across, just being able to stop
- 1:47:19Speaker 1: and go, stop defending and stop trying to be right,
- 1:47:23Speaker 1: and being able to say, Okay, I've digested what you're saying.
- 1:47:26Speaker 1: I certainly didn't intend it that way or whatever it is.
- 1:47:29Speaker 1: I'm just you know, picking an example and then being
- 1:47:31Speaker 1: able to take responsibility I think is a very very
- 1:47:34Speaker 1: powerful tool in all of your relationships. Now, Zach, I
- 1:47:37Speaker 1: have a question for you. Are you able to do
- 1:47:39Speaker 1: that without then going what I meant was and you know, like,
- 1:47:46Speaker 1: I think it's a problem for me. No, I think
- 1:47:48Speaker 1: I well, I think you know because I usually I'm
- 1:47:52Speaker 1: usually the guy like, look, I did not wow that
- 1:47:56Speaker 1: that did not you took that the wrong way, and
- 1:47:58Speaker 1: I'm I'm so sorry if it came out that way.
- 1:48:01Speaker 1: What I meant to say was the way you fucking
- 1:48:03Speaker 1: put that goddamndition that Yeah, I'm about to say, because
- 1:48:10Speaker 1: what if you meant that ship when you said it's
- 1:48:13Speaker 1: good thing? You know what I mean? A lot of
- 1:48:15Speaker 1: times a lot of times, you know, if your partner
- 1:48:17Speaker 1: gets upset, you certainly didn't intend to hurt their feelings
- 1:48:21Speaker 1: or for them to get upset. That's not that's not
- 1:48:23Speaker 1: a normal person's intentions. Of course it happens. So what
- 1:48:26Speaker 1: happened there was a miscommunication or there was a sensitivity
- 1:48:31Speaker 1: on one of the people's part um. And I think
- 1:48:33Speaker 1: we get stuck in argument loops because both people are
- 1:48:37Speaker 1: trying to be right and if if if you can
- 1:48:40Speaker 1: go um, if you can both go like, okay, I
- 1:48:44Speaker 1: hear what you're saying. I'm you know. Also, I think
- 1:48:46Speaker 1: a lot of people don't feel hurt. They're like, I'm
- 1:48:48Speaker 1: speaking in fucking circles because you're not hearing me. There's
- 1:48:50Speaker 1: a lot of power in saying I do hear you.
- 1:48:53Speaker 1: You're saying this, that's not what I intended. Um, I
- 1:48:58Speaker 1: apologize for coming across like that. Here's what I meant
- 1:49:01Speaker 1: to say, not in the aggressive, jokey way that Scott saying,
- 1:49:04Speaker 1: but saying in a way like this is truly what
- 1:49:06Speaker 1: I meant. I'm not saying it's going to solve all arguments,
- 1:49:09Speaker 1: but I think it's a very sort of peaceful way
- 1:49:10Speaker 1: to have a conversation. I think there's one other thing
- 1:49:14Speaker 1: you mentioned in that There's act that's so important to
- 1:49:16Speaker 1: remember is that when you're with someone, you're with them
- 1:49:19Speaker 1: because you love them and you want to be with them,
- 1:49:21Speaker 1: and never ever do you intend to hurt that person
- 1:49:26Speaker 1: or hurt their feelings. But it does happen, and you
- 1:49:29Speaker 1: just have to remember that neither one of you wants
- 1:49:32Speaker 1: to hurt the other. Right. Yeah, the other thing, I'll
- 1:49:36Speaker 1: give you what my therapist told me to read a
- 1:49:38Speaker 1: book that I haven't read yet, so I can't vouch
- 1:49:40Speaker 1: for it, but it's called Getting the Love You Want,
- 1:49:43Speaker 1: and I know it's about it's a very popular sort
- 1:49:46Speaker 1: of couples conversation book, So Katie, you can read that.
- 1:49:50Speaker 1: That's my wedding gift. To you, Dan, was there something
- 1:49:53Speaker 1: you wanted to say? Oh no, I was just sitting
- 1:49:56Speaker 1: up in my chair. I support everything you guys have
- 1:49:57Speaker 1: said so far. I think patients listen. I mean, it's
- 1:49:59Speaker 1: just all very smart advice, and I think it concentrates
- 1:50:02Speaker 1: on having respect for your partner and and being aware
- 1:50:07Speaker 1: of your own not necessarily shortcomings, but you know, situations
- 1:50:10Speaker 1: where you could be at fault. It's all about being
- 1:50:12Speaker 1: equal partners. Yeah, and Joel, I would I would call
- 1:50:17Speaker 1: on you, Joel, but we're trying to find you somebody
- 1:50:19Speaker 1: right now. Yes, this is the advice would be terrible
- 1:50:23Speaker 1: and oh no, here we go. Wait wait wait what
- 1:50:26Speaker 1: did this say on Twitter? Yes? Oh my goodness, we
- 1:50:34Speaker 1: are working on finding We are working on finding Joel
- 1:50:37Speaker 1: a partner. Um. I actually had someone slide into my
- 1:50:41Speaker 1: d M s and say, hey, introduced me to Joel. Um,
- 1:50:45Speaker 1: I gotta do a little recon on her. But don't
- 1:50:48Speaker 1: worry this segment it's not fully. You may have missed
- 1:50:50Speaker 1: this because I don't know often you listen to the show,
- 1:50:52Speaker 1: but we are working on a new segment called find
- 1:50:54Speaker 1: Joell a Lover. We're gonna be hopefully teaming up with
- 1:50:57Speaker 1: a popular dating app. I tell you that I mentioned
- 1:51:00Speaker 1: on the show that there's a gaming gamers dating a
- 1:51:05Speaker 1: Someone told me um that there's a How does that work?
- 1:51:09Speaker 1: How does a gamers dating at work? Well? Playing video
- 1:51:13Speaker 1: games and they together worship could start playing a game.
- 1:51:18Speaker 1: My wife and I play video games all the time together.
- 1:51:21Speaker 1: Love to hear it. I would love to hear two
- 1:51:23Speaker 1: people just meet on a date and play Call of
- 1:51:26Speaker 1: Duty together game or some game where they're yelling, I
- 1:51:31Speaker 1: fucking body. Do you you should hear Maria? Hear Marika
- 1:51:38Speaker 1: when we play Halo online against twelve year olds. It's fantastic. Okay, listen,
- 1:51:46Speaker 1: I think it's called Kibo. Sorry. I'm doing the work
- 1:51:51Speaker 1: because I normally would ask you well to do this,
- 1:51:53Speaker 1: because this is for her. I want here here a

- 1:52:22Speaker 1: in the works, It's on Dan's writing it. It was
