- 0:00Speaker 1: Yes, I question you in Brooklyn and Amy. Yep, Barley,
- 0:05Speaker 1: we've been that many times anytimes. Yes, Now when you
- 0:09Speaker 1: both go there, do you do the scooter higher thing? Yes?
- 0:13Speaker 2: Yes, And you know, the night goes on and you think,
- 0:17Speaker 2: I'm definitely not getting on any of these scooters without
- 0:19Speaker 2: a helmet or anything like that, and then night you're
- 0:22Speaker 2: on the back of it.
- 0:23Speaker 1: Yeah. Now joining us online right now is Charlene Morrissey.
- 0:27Speaker 1: In twenty twenty four, Charlene was riding a scooter with
- 0:30Speaker 1: her then partner and had quite the accident and has
- 0:34Speaker 1: fallen off your arm. A good morning by the way, Charlene, Hello, Hi, charl.
- 0:41Speaker 3: Good morning. Hi.
- 0:42Speaker 1: You're you're poor thing your right arm really talk a lot,
- 0:47Speaker 1: and can you tell us what happened and what the
- 0:49Speaker 1: result is with.
- 0:50Speaker 3: Your Yeah, so me and my partner at the time,
- 0:54Speaker 3: we were actually going to claim the you know, the
- 0:57Speaker 3: volcano mon Ago. And so just going back to your comment,
- 1:02Speaker 3: you know, I see a lot of people here. They
- 1:04Speaker 3: do drink alcohol. I don't party or do anything like that.
- 1:08Speaker 3: I see them getting on the scooters and driving irresponsibly.
- 1:13Speaker 3: But for me, because I don't do any of that,
- 1:15Speaker 3: that day I was going camping, and there was a
- 1:18Speaker 3: truck next to us in a very small town and
- 1:21Speaker 3: it just got a little too close to me, so
- 1:23Speaker 3: I slowed down to let it pass, but it was
- 1:26Speaker 3: it hit me and my bike went to the left,
- 1:30Speaker 3: which you would think my body would go with it,
- 1:32Speaker 3: but my right arm but sucked in above the wheel.
- 1:38Speaker 3: And if I don't know if you can see, but
- 1:40Speaker 3: it was dragging me down the hill because it was
- 1:43Speaker 3: going so fast it didn't stop.
- 1:44Speaker 2: So you went with the drag?
- 1:47Speaker 3: Yeah, I went with the truck. But long?
- 1:49Speaker 4: How many maidens did you get dragged?
- 1:51Speaker 3: This is what doesn't make sense, how supernatural it was.
- 1:53Speaker 3: I don't know how long I got dragged, but I
- 1:55Speaker 3: remember almost like a supernatural way of being pulled out.
- 1:59Speaker 3: But all of my skin and flesh and fingers and
- 2:01Speaker 3: everything came with it.
- 2:02Speaker 1: So all of the skin, fat, muscle and tendons from
- 2:06Speaker 1: your forearm were peeled back and have gone. Yeah, we
- 2:10Speaker 1: can see it on the screen.
- 2:11Speaker 3: Now, so a bit higher. Yeah, they call it a
- 2:15Speaker 3: d gloven accident, where literally skin flesh is peeled back.
- 2:19Speaker 3: Like you say, so, I remember, as I was by
- 2:23Speaker 3: the side of the road, I lifted up my arm
- 2:25Speaker 3: and all I could see, of course, is bones, and
- 2:28Speaker 3: for some reason, there were already people there filming me,
- 2:31Speaker 3: maybe an sixty people. Don't oh thanks guys, I know, yeah,
- 2:34Speaker 3: I know, I know, right? Do you wor the moment
- 2:37Speaker 3: my life?
- 2:37Speaker 4: Do you go into shock in that kind of moment,
- 2:41Speaker 4: like do you remember being in an incredible amount of
- 2:44Speaker 4: pain or is it just you're adrenaline kicks in and
- 2:47Speaker 4: you're just in shock and you can't feel anything.
- 2:50Speaker 3: No. I remember the whole sex hovers because it was
- 2:52Speaker 3: sex overs that I was there, just leading to death?
- 2:56Speaker 1: Oh my well was it so long?
- 2:59Speaker 3: Sex overs and tall tod? But for one hour, thirty
- 3:01Speaker 3: minutes I was on the road. Because it's a small town,
- 3:05Speaker 3: they don't have a hospital. So that medical center denied me.
- 3:08Speaker 3: They said that you then they did. The locals called,
- 3:14Speaker 3: I'm going to say ambulance, but it was just a
- 3:17Speaker 3: very small car to take me to a medical center.
- 3:21Speaker 3: But they were not equipped. Even the doctor took one
- 3:23Speaker 3: look and you could see his face and said, she's
- 3:26Speaker 3: going to die. We can't help her here.
- 3:28Speaker 1: And did you think you genuinely thought you were going
- 3:31Speaker 1: to die of Charlene in those hours?
- 3:33Speaker 3: Yeah? I remember the whole thing. I remember lifting up
- 3:37Speaker 3: my arm. I was very calm at first, and then
- 3:40Speaker 3: I started to scream, screams that I think woke up
- 3:44Speaker 3: my ancestors in the town. And so my artery was
- 3:48Speaker 3: completely severed. So I should have died in like three minutes,
- 3:50Speaker 3: I think, with hype of Willie mcshock, maybe six minutes
- 3:54Speaker 3: I lost that artery. So you can imagine how bad
- 3:56Speaker 3: it was. Joining in my own blood in the pain.
- 4:00Speaker 3: I'm writing my book, but I still don't have the
- 4:02Speaker 3: words to describe the pain. It's like you're being impaled
- 4:06Speaker 3: over and over and over.
- 4:08Speaker 2: I can't what do you remember the feeling of helplessness
- 4:12Speaker 2: when you're still conscious, but and then you've got a
- 4:15Speaker 2: doctor saying, oh, you're going to die, I can't help you.
- 4:19Speaker 2: I can't imagine what that would feel like.
- 4:22Speaker 3: Yeah, the feeling that something I talk about a lot.
- 4:25Speaker 3: The hopelessness, being looked at dead in the eye and
- 4:29Speaker 3: being rejected is probably more painful on an emotional level
- 4:33Speaker 3: than the physical. And it wasn't just the one doctor, right,
- 4:37Speaker 3: There was many doctors, nurses, even my ex partner he
- 4:40Speaker 3: walked away after the accident, so there was a lot
- 4:42Speaker 3: of rejection a lot of abandonment in there. But during
- 4:45Speaker 3: those six hours, it was like I describe it, like
- 4:48Speaker 3: dancing between heaven and hell, being conscious and fighting for
- 4:53Speaker 3: every breath. I remember saying things like, just let me
- 4:57Speaker 3: die now, no one's going to want me. I'm going
- 4:58Speaker 3: to list my arm. You know, I don't feel worthy anymore.
- 5:02Speaker 3: And then in the other breath, I remember myself saying no, Charley,
- 5:06Speaker 3: and you have to fight this. And so when my
- 5:08Speaker 3: ex partner asked them to sedate me in the first hospital,
- 5:11Speaker 3: I told them no because if they do, I'm going
- 5:14Speaker 3: to die. So I have to be honest and say
- 5:18Speaker 3: I've never felt more alive in those six hours, which
- 5:21Speaker 3: is insane than I have a live because every cell
- 5:24Speaker 3: is like fighting for life.
- 5:26Speaker 1: Yeah wow, okay, So how are things now? Obviously along
- 5:30Speaker 1: road of recovery? How is the arm? How's die to die?
- 5:33Speaker 2: Lof the arm looks great?
- 5:34Speaker 1: By the way.
- 5:36Speaker 3: The doctor I spoke to, they don't understand how I
- 5:39Speaker 3: got such a good result without further surgeries. But I recovered.
- 5:44Speaker 3: I was back on a bit within like three months.
- 5:46Speaker 3: I was back in the gym. I faced on my fears.
- 5:49Speaker 3: I flew back to Bali, I didn't let us stop me.
- 5:52Speaker 3: And everything the doctor said I couldn't do, I went
- 5:54Speaker 3: on to do so. Thankfully I didn't suffer with I
- 6:00Speaker 3: think because of the I was overdosed with fence and
- 6:02Speaker 3: no by the way, so I had a drug addiction
- 6:04Speaker 3: and then my body was failing. Yeah, and muscle lost
- 6:07Speaker 3: and a lot of other things happened in those three months.
- 6:10Speaker 3: But after that I took some months to just isolate
- 6:14Speaker 3: and face it. No medication, no therapy.
- 6:17Speaker 2: So you're living in Bali again.
- 6:19Speaker 3: Yeah, I've come back again for the third time.
- 6:23Speaker 1: You would think you come on and go and this
- 6:25Speaker 1: is a message to not get on the scooters in Bali.
- 6:28Speaker 1: But you're not saying that.
- 6:30Speaker 3: I mean, don't get me wrong. If someone drinking alcohol
- 6:32Speaker 3: and being stupid on a spare, of course, you know,
- 6:35Speaker 3: I see it a lot and it breaks my heart.
- 6:37Speaker 3: Like I say, I'm here, I don't live the life
- 6:40Speaker 3: that I did in Bali anymore. It's very peaceful. I
- 6:43Speaker 3: drived a bike to short distances. But the one thing
- 6:46Speaker 3: that this has taught me is that I lived my
- 6:49Speaker 3: life and a lot of fear, and now Dyane has
- 6:53Speaker 3: actually showed me how to live. So I don't fear
- 6:56Speaker 3: anything like literally with.
- 6:59Speaker 1: Charlayne and edible story. Yeah, and we're glad you're doing well, and.
- 7:03Speaker 4: You look amazing and your and your arm looks amazing
- 7:06Speaker 4: and I love that you're really living life to the fullest.
- 7:09Speaker 1: Now.
- 7:09Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I love my arm. I love my stars.
- 7:12Speaker 3: You know, we don't have to hate them.
- 7:13Speaker 2: Absolutely, Charlotte, Charlotte coming on.
- 7:17Speaker 3: Yeah, thank you,
