- 0:00Speaker 1: This is the Almost Famous Podcast with iHeartRadio.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Hi, everybody. Oh my gosh, this is so exciting. I
- 0:09Speaker 2: love it when my worlds collide. And this time my
- 0:12Speaker 2: worlds are colliding kind of in three different ways. And
- 0:15Speaker 2: I'm not making this about me, but it truly is like,
- 0:18Speaker 2: that's why I'm excited. Dancing with the Stars, The Bachelorette,
- 0:23Speaker 2: and Almost Famous. So we are recapping Dancing with the
- 0:27Speaker 2: Stars on Almost Famous. And I get to do it
- 0:30Speaker 2: with Deanna from Bachelorette. How fun is this?
- 0:34Speaker 3: I mean, I am like, we've been friends for years
- 0:37Speaker 3: and we've never really gotten to do maybe one or
- 0:40Speaker 3: two things creative together. And then we get to do this,
- 0:43Speaker 3: like my favorite things, television, podcasting, and my friends.
- 0:47Speaker 1: I am so happy right now.
- 0:49Speaker 2: I know. I love it. Podcasting is definitely one of
- 0:53Speaker 2: my favorite things as well. And to get to do
- 0:56Speaker 2: it with you is just icing on the cake.
- 0:58Speaker 1: Oh, look at us.
- 0:59Speaker 2: And the fact that it's Dancing with the Stars, like
- 1:01Speaker 2: I did it for Special Forces. And I know you've
- 1:05Speaker 2: done you've done a couple too. And I just, I
- 1:09Speaker 2: love being able to have a reason to watch the
- 1:13Speaker 2: show in real time, because usually I will put it off,
- 1:17Speaker 2: like save it in, you know, whatever the The recording
- 1:21Speaker 2: box on my DVR is.
- 1:23Speaker 3: Trista, you do not still have a DVR.
- 1:25Speaker 2: No, I don't. I'm sorry. I don't even know the terminology.
- 1:28Speaker 2: Like DirecTV? What's it called on DirecTV? You know what
- 1:31Speaker 2: I mean? So anyway, I love getting the opportunity to
- 1:38Speaker 2: review it the next day. And we have talked about this.
- 1:42Speaker 2: We haven't done it yet. But we're going to come
- 1:44Speaker 2: up with a friendly little wager.
- 1:47Speaker 1: You are way more.
- 1:48Speaker 3: I'm like, as soon as our producer Heather sent that over,
- 1:50Speaker 3: my palms started sweating because I think that I am
- 1:54Speaker 3: relatively competitive in just like a fun way, but I
- 1:57Speaker 3: don't like to bet and I don't like to lose money.
- 2:00Speaker 3: And I know that you are super competitive. And like,
- 2:02Speaker 3: here's the difference between the two of us. I actually
- 2:05Speaker 3: don't watch Dancing with the Stars. So this is going
- 2:08Speaker 3: to be like my first season.
- 2:10Speaker 1: I'm a newbie. So you're going to have to take
- 2:12Speaker 1: it easy.
- 2:13Speaker 2: It's your first season watching? I have watched things. Wait,
- 2:17Speaker 2: you didn't watch my season? No, I'm just kidding.
- 2:19Speaker 3: I was still in elementary school. I'm just kidding. I
- 2:22Speaker 3: love you so much. But I have seen clips of
- 2:28Speaker 3: the show, like a lot of what I do, because I, whatever,
- 2:31Speaker 3: you're a mom, you get it. I have little to
- 2:32Speaker 3: no free time whatsoever. So I hardly ever will sit
- 2:36Speaker 3: down and binge a television show. Yeah. So I get
- 2:40Speaker 3: most of my clips from Instagram. So I will see
- 2:42Speaker 3: stuff on social media about Dancing with the Stars and
- 2:46Speaker 3: who's on it.
- 2:47Speaker 1: Stuff like that.
- 2:48Speaker 3: But to say, I have never, never sat down and
- 2:53Speaker 3: watched an entire season of Dancing with the Stars.
- 2:56Speaker 2: Not ever. Okay. Well, I love that you're doing it
- 2:59Speaker 2: for this because it's going to be a really good season.
- 3:03Speaker 2: Being from Dancing with the Stars from From the first season.
- 3:07Speaker 2: I mean, there are seasons, The Bachelorette and The Bachelor,
- 3:09Speaker 2: I have watched every single episode of every single show.
- 3:13Speaker 2: For Dancing with the Stars, I've watched most, but there
- 3:16Speaker 2: were definitely some seasons in the middle that I was like,
- 3:20Speaker 2: I just, especially when the kids were little, that I'm like,
- 3:22Speaker 2: I just can't sit down for an hour, two hours
- 3:25Speaker 2: a night, a week, whatever, and get all of this in.
- 3:29Speaker 2: But now, as an almost empty nester, I am like,
- 3:34Speaker 2: all in.
- 3:35Speaker 1: Let's do this.
- 3:35Speaker 2: And the fact that we have the podcast and the
- 3:39Speaker 2: impetus to actually sit down and watch it so that
- 3:42Speaker 2: we know what we're talking about the next day.
- 3:44Speaker 1: Okay.
- 3:44Speaker 3: Well, so maybe since you are the veteran of all veterans,
- 3:48Speaker 3: I bow down now to you.
- 3:49Speaker 1: Oh, no, no. Do not bow down.
- 3:51Speaker 3: Maybe I'll bet our wager needs to be something friendly
- 3:54Speaker 3: since I'm the newbie and I'm just dipping my toes in.
- 3:57Speaker 3: Maybe it needs to be like, A basket of cookies
- 4:00Speaker 3: or like a dinner out.
- 4:03Speaker 2: Yes, I love the dinner out.
- 4:05Speaker 1: Your words of wisdom.
- 4:06Speaker 2: The care package is so cute. I mean, what about that?
- 4:10Speaker 2: That's a really cute idea. Listen, we don't have to
- 4:13Speaker 2: decide right now. Let's talk about that. In a little bit.
- 4:17Speaker 2: Or another episode. Maybe we text tonight about ideas about
- 4:21Speaker 2: what to do and then we'll announce them tomorrow on
- 4:23Speaker 2: our recap episode. Tomorrow night. Or tomorrow during the day.
- 4:26Speaker 2: But I am just so excited that you're a newbie
- 4:28Speaker 2: because I think you're bringing a new perspective to the show.
- 4:33Speaker 2: And I think a lot of people are in your
- 4:36Speaker 2: same boat. I think there's a whole new viewership for
- 4:42Speaker 2: this show because... They've brought it to social media. Like
- 4:46Speaker 2: in the past couple years, I'm sure you have seen
- 4:49Speaker 2: the TikToks, the Instagram reels from people from Dancing with
- 4:54Speaker 2: the Stars. They have elevated it so much. Like I
- 4:58Speaker 2: love all that they are doing with social media. They
- 5:00Speaker 2: bring so much original content. It's way more interactive.
- 5:02Speaker 1: Like I actually feel like I'm part of it.
- 5:04Speaker 2: It is.
- 5:04Speaker 3: I think we all know coming off of The Bachelor
- 5:07Speaker 3: and The Bachelorette, we all wanted our turn at Dancing
- 5:10Speaker 3: with the Stars. And I know that you were on it, Trista.
- 5:12Speaker 1: And there was a.
- 5:13Speaker 3: Time where they were looking at me and I was
- 5:16Speaker 3: told I couldn't do it, right? So I have so
- 5:18Speaker 3: many mixed feelings and I really wanted to do it.
- 5:21Speaker 3: So that is what I do love about the show
- 5:25Speaker 3: now is it feels very interactive. very much a part
- 5:29Speaker 3: of this show. And when you're voting, they're not just
- 5:32Speaker 3: asking you to play a part. They're asking you to.
- 5:35Speaker 1: Be a part of.
- 5:37Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, totally.
- 5:38Speaker 1: No, I agree.
- 5:39Speaker 2: And honestly, you brought up a good point. The fact
- 5:41Speaker 2: that they're bringing... people, it used to be like the
- 5:45Speaker 2: most recent person from The Bachelor or The Bachelorette, you know,
- 5:48Speaker 2: and now Tyler Cameron's on it.
- 5:50Speaker 3: Okay, I have to, before I forget, before I forget,
- 5:54Speaker 3: I have to tell you something about myself. And let's
- 5:57Speaker 3: all just like, I'll have you know, I have never
- 5:59Speaker 3: uttered this out loud to another human being. Like a
- 6:04Speaker 3: dirty old woman. Let me preface by saying, Trista, I
- 6:08Speaker 3: don't know Tyler Cameron. I have never met him. I
- 6:11Speaker 3: did not watch him on the show. I don't even
- 6:14Speaker 3: follow him on social media. Sometimes his stuff will pop
- 6:17Speaker 3: into my feed and I'm like.
- 6:18Speaker 1: Oh, there's that cutie patootie. Do not know this man
- 6:25Speaker 1: at all.
- 6:25Speaker 3: And I have had multiple dreams about Tyler Cameron.
- 6:30Speaker 1: I do not even know this person. I don't even
- 6:33Speaker 1: know him.
- 6:34Speaker 3: But I have dreams like multiple, Trista, like four or
- 6:38Speaker 3: five dreams.
- 6:39Speaker 1: I'm such a weirdo.
- 6:41Speaker 3: I have never told anyone, but I have dreamed about
- 6:45Speaker 3: him four or five times and that like we are together.
- 6:48Speaker 3: Like we are in a relationship. He's my boyfriend. Sometimes
- 6:52Speaker 3: it's hot and heavy. And sometimes we're just like living
- 6:55Speaker 3: happily ever after.
- 6:57Speaker 1: What does that say about me?
- 6:59Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 6:59Speaker 2: We need to have like someone who knows what happens
- 7:04Speaker 2: in dreams. Like can, you know, what's the word? Like
- 7:07Speaker 2: not a psychic, but somebody who.
- 7:09Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. Like dream dictionary. I believe in all of
- 7:11Speaker 1: this stuff.
- 7:12Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 7:12Speaker 1: It is my intuition telling me that I'm still delusional.
- 7:16Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 7:21Speaker 1: Anyway, he's so cute and he's so hot and I'm
- 7:23Speaker 1: so glad that they brought him back.
- 7:24Speaker 3: He has done a lot of stuff recently, so I
- 7:27Speaker 3: am at least excited to have, you know, someone close
- 7:30Speaker 3: to my heart that I can cheer on during this season.
- 7:33Speaker 1: Yes, I totally agree.
- 7:34Speaker 2: Okay, so if people are listening and they're recent viewers
- 7:42Speaker 2: of Dancing with the Stars, like Deanna, I was on
- 7:45Speaker 2: the first season of Dancing with the Stars. And I'm
- 7:48Speaker 2: saying this now because I want you all to know
- 7:51Speaker 2: my perspective is that We didn't have a budget. We
- 7:56Speaker 2: didn't rehearse a lot. There's only so much I understand
- 8:00Speaker 2: about this show from my personal experience. A lot of
- 8:03Speaker 2: what my opinion will be about is as a viewer.
- 8:07Speaker 2: So don't think that I'm coming on here as some
- 8:10Speaker 2: freaking expert because I'm not. I was the very first
- 8:13Speaker 2: person that was ever booted from the show, if that
- 8:17Speaker 2: tells you anything. So I love being part of the
- 8:20Speaker 2: family and talking about this show because It does have
- 8:24Speaker 2: a special place in my heart. But please, let's be honest.
- 8:26Speaker 2: I was only there for like two weeks.
- 8:30Speaker 3: It still counts in my book, Trista. In my book,
- 8:33Speaker 3: you are still really cool.
- 8:35Speaker 1: Okay, thanks.
- 8:36Speaker 2: Okay, so we're going to get to the recap. Last
- 8:39Speaker 2: night was the premiere of season 35 of Dancing with
- 8:43Speaker 2: the Stars. And because they have such a big show,
- 8:47Speaker 2: they broke it down into the guys performing this first night,
- 8:51Speaker 2: last night. on Tuesdays. It'll be on Tuesdays. And then tonight,
- 8:57Speaker 2: the women will be competing, and we'll be recapping that tomorrow.
- 9:00Speaker 2: Every week will not be double episodes. It was just
- 9:03Speaker 2: this first week.
- 9:04Speaker 3: Oh, phew, Trista. I was afraid I was going to
- 9:06Speaker 3: be losing out on my precious sleep.
- 9:09Speaker 2: Well, but I have to say, they'll probably make it
- 9:11Speaker 2: two hours. So don't think that you're going to be
- 9:14Speaker 2: getting any sleep back.
- 9:15Speaker 1: Sorry. May I ask you a kind of a newbie
- 9:18Speaker 1: question here?
- 9:19Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 9:20Speaker 1: Do they typically do this, break up the men and
- 9:22Speaker 1: the women? No, no.
- 9:24Speaker 2: I don't think they've ever done this in Dancing with
- 9:27Speaker 2: the Stars history, no matter how many celebs. are on
- 9:32Speaker 2: the first night, they usually just have it be an
- 9:35Speaker 2: extended episode. So the fact that they're breaking it up
- 9:41Speaker 2: also is an indication to me that it is so
- 9:44Speaker 2: popular because they didn't just have, as you'll notice, they
- 9:49Speaker 2: didn't just have the guys performing. They had the, Julianne
- 9:54Speaker 2: Hough did her Paris Baguette dance. You know, they had
- 9:59Speaker 2: that dance. They had the, opening number. They had the
- 10:02Speaker 2: interviews with the women who weren't competing that night. And
- 10:05Speaker 2: you'll see as we get on with the more episodes
- 10:08Speaker 2: every week, it usually is just the performances. And sometimes
- 10:12Speaker 2: they'll throw in like the troupe and they'll throw in
- 10:15Speaker 2: like maybe a fun little number.
- 10:16Speaker 3: Okay, I'm really glad that you have said that because as...
- 10:19Speaker 3: you know, your token newbie here. I was a little
- 10:24Speaker 3: with the group dances. I was like, okay, this feels
- 10:26Speaker 3: like excess fluff that I don't necessarily need.
- 10:29Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 10:29Speaker 3: And then I also, listen, I kind of am the
- 10:33Speaker 3: type of person where I like for everyone to have
- 10:34Speaker 3: their role and stick to that role.
- 10:36Speaker 1: But like, I'm not saying that's right. I have my
- 10:38Speaker 1: own issues.
- 10:39Speaker 3: But when Julianne Hough did the quick change and did
- 10:42Speaker 3: the French baguette dance situation thing, That she helped to choreograph.
- 10:51Speaker 2: Mm-hmm.
- 10:52Speaker 1: That was a miss for me, Trista.
- 10:54Speaker 2: It was. Okay. See, I love Julianne. I think that
- 10:59Speaker 2: Derek and Julianne and their whole family, for that matter,
- 11:02Speaker 2: are so talented. I have always, since Derek joined the
- 11:07Speaker 2: show and Julianne, too, I just love them. As a dancer...
- 11:11Speaker 2: I love seeing these numbers because they are so creative
- 11:17Speaker 2: and so good. But I get that. I think that
- 11:21Speaker 2: I don't know that you're alone in that because we
- 11:25Speaker 2: know now that it was, you know, a collab, essentially.
- 11:28Speaker 2: It's like how The Bachelorette does, like how we film
- 11:31Speaker 2: that commercial.
- 11:31Speaker 1: Like branded commercials, right? Exactly. Exactly.
- 11:34Speaker 3: So I don't want to dismiss because you are talking
- 11:36Speaker 3: to someone who is not a dancer. I can stay
- 11:39Speaker 3: on rhythm. And I, you know, really good at that
- 11:43Speaker 3: side to side, Trista. I can drop it like it's hot.
- 11:47Speaker 3: But I would not say that I have technicality by
- 11:50Speaker 3: any means. So for me to judge Julianne Hough is
- 11:53Speaker 3: really the dumbest thing that we're talking about today.
- 11:56Speaker 1: So I am with you.
- 11:57Speaker 3: I believe that them, their whole family, the incredible amount
- 12:01Speaker 3: of talent that they have is just, it's on another level.
- 12:06Speaker 3: I think just for me, I I like to stick
- 12:09Speaker 3: to the basics of the show and what that is,
- 12:11Speaker 3: is it's the celebrities competing. Even some of the other
- 12:14Speaker 3: like pros when they do those group dances, they're cool.
- 12:17Speaker 1: You know what I mean? I'm just, you know, I
- 12:19Speaker 1: don't know.
- 12:20Speaker 2: Well, I think that's what I'm saying is I think
- 12:22Speaker 2: that because the show is so popular, they wanted to
- 12:25Speaker 2: give the troop, give Julianne, give, you know, these numbers
- 12:29Speaker 2: to the people who are watching, because let's be honest.
- 12:33Speaker 2: These days, I feel like the pros have even a
- 12:37Speaker 2: bigger following than the celebs a lot of times. You know,
- 12:40Speaker 2: I feel like if we compared the viewership or the
- 12:44Speaker 2: follower count for all of the pros compared to all
- 12:48Speaker 2: the celebs right now, I would really be interested to
- 12:50Speaker 2: see who had more followers. You know what I mean?
- 12:54Speaker 2: Because these pros are so big. so popular. Right.
- 12:59Speaker 3: And I guess the other piece, Trista, is that there
- 13:00Speaker 3: are probably a lot of people who have been invested
- 13:03Speaker 3: in Dancing with the Stars from the very beginning. I
- 13:06Speaker 3: am not that person. So again, I'm just throwing some
- 13:11Speaker 3: curveballs here for you.
- 13:13Speaker 2: No, I totally hear what you're saying. And I think
- 13:16Speaker 2: there's something to be said for that. But I think
- 13:19Speaker 2: it won't even be a topic of conversation moving forward.
- 13:23Speaker 2: after tonight's episode because i think they're probably going to
- 13:27Speaker 2: just have the people perform you know what i mean
- 13:30Speaker 2: they'll have the background um right before they go on
- 13:32Speaker 2: stage they have like a little background video and they'll
- 13:35Speaker 2: have like the opening number and maybe the troop do
- 13:38Speaker 2: one or two things but that will most likely be
- 13:41Speaker 2: the format of the show moving forward okay cool we
- 13:43Speaker 2: won't have to worry about it okay great so we
- 13:46Speaker 2: started the show um with jackson and emma jackson is
- 13:51Speaker 2: from Savannah Bananas. Do you know what Savannah Bananas is?
- 13:56Speaker 3: Trista, I am your good Southern friend, and I love baseball.
- 14:01Speaker 3: It is on my bucket list to see a baseball
- 14:04Speaker 3: game in every state in the United States, and I've
- 14:07Speaker 3: been to a lot. I really want to see all
- 14:08Speaker 3: the stadiums, but it is also on my list. I
- 14:11Speaker 3: really want to go to a Bananas baseball game. I
- 14:14Speaker 3: love these guys. Love them.
- 14:16Speaker 1: The immense amount of skill that they have to have.
- 14:19Speaker 3: To be you know, influencers, uh, dancing, singing, and also
- 14:25Speaker 3: be good at a sport that the, it's love him.
- 14:28Speaker 2: And I do want to back up. So for this
- 14:31Speaker 2: episode and every episode, they will have a theme. So
- 14:35Speaker 2: like they'll have the Disney theme, they'll have a Halloween theme,
- 14:37Speaker 2: they'll have whatever, whatever the themes are for that season.
- 14:41Speaker 2: But for tonight or last night's episode, the theme was
- 14:44Speaker 2: the Billboard number one hit from the year of your birth.
- 14:47Speaker 1: I love it.
- 14:47Speaker 2: And actually, I don't know that they followed the Billboard
- 14:50Speaker 2: number one. I think they followed like whatever from the
- 14:54Speaker 2: year of their birth that the celeb wanted to choose.
- 14:57Speaker 1: That's kind of the vibe that I got.
- 14:59Speaker 2: Yeah. Okay. So each person chose a song from the
- 15:04Speaker 2: year of your birth. And let me give you a
- 15:06Speaker 2: little background on this. Maybe it has changed since first season.
- 15:11Speaker 2: But it's not like you can be like, oh, I
- 15:14Speaker 2: want to do the song that Ryan wrote for me,
- 15:18Speaker 2: something about her. Like, I want to do that on
- 15:21Speaker 2: the show. No, you have like a list of songs
- 15:24Speaker 2: that you are able to do. Yep, that you get
- 15:28Speaker 2: to pick from. And usually your pro picks the song.
- 15:32Speaker 2: So I wonder because... I think in terms of timing,
- 15:36Speaker 2: the pro needs the song first so that they can
- 15:39Speaker 2: start choreographing.
- 15:40Speaker 3: Oh, that makes sense. Well, I'm really glad that Wump
- 15:42Speaker 3: There It Is was on the list. You know, what
- 15:47Speaker 3: you guys don't know is that Trista and I were
- 15:48Speaker 3: talking last night about how we cannot remember anything.
- 15:53Speaker 1: At our age.
- 15:53Speaker 3: We're not even old, Trista, but we cannot remember anything.
- 15:56Speaker 3: But for the love of God, we can remember every
- 15:59Speaker 3: single word to the songs of like the early 80s
- 16:03Speaker 3: and 90s. I can remember everything, but I cannot remember
- 16:06Speaker 3: what I had for breakfast this morning.
- 16:08Speaker 1: It's ridiculous.
- 16:09Speaker 2: No, I know. I'm sure people have seen those Instagram
- 16:12Speaker 2: reels where You know, like a mom is driving her
- 16:15Speaker 2: kids to school and she's, you know, rapping whatever, you know,
- 16:19Speaker 2: rapper's delight or whatever. Love it. Coolio.
- 16:22Speaker 1: Oh, my God. Oh, my.
- 16:24Speaker 3: I did tell Krista last night that I got to fly.
- 16:28Speaker 1: Someone who's like really, really cool.
- 16:31Speaker 3: And I in my head, I was singing the song
- 16:33Speaker 3: the entire time.
- 16:35Speaker 1: Ring, ding, dong. Ring, ding, ding, ding. Oh, I digress.
- 16:39Speaker 3: Anyway, if I were on Dancing with the Stars, Trista,
- 16:43Speaker 3: my song would have been Betty Davis Eyes.
- 16:46Speaker 2: Ooh.
- 16:47Speaker 1: She's got Betty Davis eyes.
- 16:50Speaker 3: Oh, okay.
- 16:50Speaker 2: I know. I love that.
- 16:51Speaker 3: Could you just imagine me out there swirling and twirling
- 16:54Speaker 3: and dipping and all of the things with Tyler Cameron?
- 16:57Speaker 2: I mean... Who would be your pro? Who would you
- 17:00Speaker 2: choose to be your pro?
- 17:02Speaker 1: Tyler Cameron?
- 17:04Speaker 3: No, no, no.
- 17:04Speaker 2: Your pro.
- 17:05Speaker 1: I know. He's not a pro.
- 17:06Speaker 2: I know.
- 17:06Speaker 3: I'm just telling you about my apparent obsession with Tyler Cameron.
- 17:11Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 17:11Speaker 2: So tonight, you're telling everybody you're going to be having
- 17:13Speaker 2: a dream about Tyler Cameron and you to Betty Davis. Oh,
- 17:17Speaker 2: my God.
- 17:17Speaker 1: Understood.
- 17:18Speaker 2: We get it.
- 17:20Speaker 1: I can't. Tell me what your song would be, Trista.
- 17:23Speaker 2: So if we're following the theme of the number one
- 17:26Speaker 2: hit from the year of my birth, it's Roberta Flax,
- 17:29Speaker 2: The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face. Do you
- 17:31Speaker 2: know that song?
- 17:32Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. Okay, but now if you got to selfishly choose,
- 17:36Speaker 1: what would your song be?
- 17:37Speaker 2: Oh, Lord. I mean, 1972, what the heck was the
- 17:41Speaker 2: song back then? I would, you know, it's funny, when
- 17:43Speaker 2: we were texting last night, I did say The Gambler.
- 17:47Speaker 2: I wonder when The Gambler was out. No, that was later.
- 17:51Speaker 2: That had to have been later.
- 17:52Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 17:53Speaker 2: I think I was in elementary school then.
- 17:55Speaker 1: God, I don't know.
- 17:57Speaker 2: I don't know songs. Would it be like disco, like Grease?
- 18:01Speaker 1: It would totally be disco. It would be like the Grease....
- 18:05Speaker 2: Ram-a-lam-a-ding-dong? Yes, Trista!
- 18:09Speaker 3: It could be like the cha-cha, or not the cha-cha,
- 18:12Speaker 3: but the one where they do the little kicks.
- 18:13Speaker 1: Somebody was doing it last night.
- 18:14Speaker 2: I know every word of every Grease song, so yeah.
- 18:17Speaker 3: Oh, okay. All right.
- 18:18Speaker 1: So that's very fitting for you.
- 18:19Speaker 2: Oh my gosh. And yes, I could either wear, like
- 18:23Speaker 2: be at the, you know, the soda shop, the ice
- 18:26Speaker 2: cream shop wearing the big poofy poodle skirt.
- 18:28Speaker 1: Yes, I absolutely picture you like that.
- 18:31Speaker 3: Like in my mind, I believe you and Ryan dressed
- 18:33Speaker 3: up like that for Halloween one year.
- 18:35Speaker 2: I actually, so they had a Dancing with the Stars.
- 18:38Speaker 2: You know, I'm sure you've heard of people doing Dancing
- 18:41Speaker 2: with the Stars locally, like as a fundraiser. And in Vail,
- 18:44Speaker 2: they had a fundraiser Dancing with the Stars. And I
- 18:47Speaker 2: did a dance and I did wear a big A
- 18:51Speaker 2: pink dress, of course, with big white polka dots, and
- 18:55Speaker 2: I did a jive. Oh, yes, you did a jive.
- 18:58Speaker 3: See?
- 18:58Speaker 2: Taylor Swift.
- 18:59Speaker 3: I will describe it in layman's terms, and you will
- 19:02Speaker 3: correct me where need be. You know, one year, my
- 19:05Speaker 3: ex-husband and I dressed up as Danny and Sandy, too,
- 19:07Speaker 3: but when they were in the leather outfits and I
- 19:09Speaker 3: wore a blonde wig, that was like my blonde era.
- 19:12Speaker 1: I thought, well, I could be a blonde. Okay, cool.
- 19:14Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, that would be probably my second choice, but
- 19:18Speaker 2: I need to go to the gym. Anyway... First up
- 19:33Speaker 2: was Jackson and Emma, and I know that you just
- 19:36Speaker 2: said that you love Savannah Bananas and you're a baseball fanatic.
- 19:40Speaker 2: I am wondering, like, he got an and. The judges
- 19:44Speaker 2: did specify this, that the scores from early in the season,
- 19:49Speaker 2: they are great. to be a bit more critical when
- 19:54Speaker 2: it comes to scoring. And honestly... I feel like they
- 19:57Speaker 2: should because people only get better as the season goes on.
- 20:01Speaker 2: And you can't start with nines and have a person
- 20:04Speaker 2: get tens like their entire time on the season. So
- 20:07Speaker 2: I feel like you have to be a little more
- 20:11Speaker 2: critical so that you can give them feedback. Okay.
- 20:14Speaker 3: I was a little worried about that because if we're
- 20:16Speaker 3: starting out on like 12s and 14s, I was like, oh,
- 20:20Speaker 3: we have some growth to be.
- 20:22Speaker 1: To be done here. Right.
- 20:23Speaker 2: So, no, we've got Jackson and Emma got all fives,
- 20:28Speaker 2: and they gave him some good comments about foot placement
- 20:31Speaker 2: and bent knees. And, you know, I don't know, when
- 20:34Speaker 2: I came on the show, I knew nothing about ballroom. Like, nothing.
- 20:39Speaker 2: And I feel like for most of these people, even
- 20:42Speaker 2: the professional dancers, Jenna Dewan was saying that She's a
- 20:47Speaker 2: professional dancer, has been, and she hasn't danced in a while,
- 20:50Speaker 2: but ballroom's completely new to her. So I think that
- 20:55Speaker 2: this show also, I believe, has really educated people on
- 20:59Speaker 2: what ballroom looks like and what it should look like.
- 21:02Speaker 2: And I love that the judges are able to give
- 21:05Speaker 2: that technical feedback to these people about how it can
- 21:11Speaker 2: be better. And usually you listen back to the show
- 21:15Speaker 2: and think, what did they actually say to me? How
- 21:18Speaker 2: can I make it better? And you see that improvement
- 21:20Speaker 2: happening week after week. It's amazing.
- 21:23Speaker 1: I think it's made dance like attractive, Trista.
- 21:26Speaker 2: Yes.
- 21:27Speaker 1: You know what I mean? Like, I don't know.
- 21:28Speaker 3: I grew up in the South and everybody played football
- 21:30Speaker 3: and baseball. So I don't know that like dance was attractive,
- 21:33Speaker 3: but I know that you are a dance mom, right?
- 21:35Speaker 3: I think it's made dance like attractive, like that you
- 21:40Speaker 3: can seek dancing as a career.
- 21:43Speaker 1: It can be your passion and it's like super cool.
- 21:48Speaker 2: So I feel like, you know, since you aren't from
- 21:50Speaker 2: a dance background, I feel like it was that back then.
- 21:53Speaker 2: Like when I was dancing in college, my dream was
- 21:57Speaker 2: to be Janet Jackson's backup dancer. Oh, geez.
- 22:01Speaker 1: I wanted to be her backup singer.
- 22:03Speaker 2: Okay, there you go. I love that. So I feel
- 22:08Speaker 2: like it's always been, you know, in the dance world,
- 22:11Speaker 2: when it comes to the dance world, it's always been there.
- 22:14Speaker 2: But they have brought it to the main stage. They've
- 22:17Speaker 2: brought it to the bulk of people in the United States,
- 22:22Speaker 2: at least, and overseas. I mean, the show started as
- 22:26Speaker 2: a UK production.
- 22:28Speaker 1: I didn't know that.
- 22:29Speaker 2: Len Goodman, I believe, was one of the original judges
- 22:33Speaker 2: on the original show. And I remember getting the call
- 22:37Speaker 2: from an ABC exec. And when you got a call
- 22:40Speaker 2: from this ABC exec, you took the call. And she
- 22:43Speaker 2: was like, you know, they do this show overseas and
- 22:45Speaker 2: we want to bring it to the States and we
- 22:47Speaker 2: want you to do it. And I was like, what?
- 22:49Speaker 2: Ballroom dancing? But it is now so sexy. Like everyone
- 22:54Speaker 2: wants to ballroom dance.
- 22:55Speaker 1: Right.
- 22:56Speaker 2: So, yeah, I I love what the show has done
- 22:59Speaker 2: for the dance world. And it's given all of these people,
- 23:03Speaker 2: especially sport fans. athletes and Olympic athletes and Paralympic athletes
- 23:09Speaker 2: and all of these people, a platform that they don't
- 23:12Speaker 2: normally have. We'll get into one of my favorites from
- 23:15Speaker 2: last night.
- 23:15Speaker 3: Well, I heard you say the word sexy, which takes
- 23:19Speaker 3: us on to our next dancer. My friend, my lover,
- 23:25Speaker 3: Tyler Cameron and Sharna Burgess. Listen, I did not have
- 23:30Speaker 3: high hopes for for Taylor.
- 23:33Speaker 1: I'm sorry.
- 23:33Speaker 3: I did not have high hopes for Tyler. I love
- 23:36Speaker 3: how the show talked about how big he is because again,
- 23:40Speaker 3: I've never met him in real life. I'm just running
- 23:43Speaker 3: from my imagination here, but he strikes me as someone
- 23:45Speaker 3: who is very beefy and tall. And I love that
- 23:49Speaker 3: this show really worked on that with him when they're
- 23:51Speaker 3: trying to teach him to dance, that he's going to
- 23:53Speaker 3: have to really work on.
- 23:54Speaker 1: Those massive shoulders, Trista. Oh my God.
- 23:58Speaker 3: So anyway, Tyler and Sharna, they They dance to Are
- 24:04Speaker 3: You Gonna Go My Way by Lenny Kravitz, and they tango. Now,
- 24:08Speaker 3: I did know what the tango is. It is a
- 24:12Speaker 3: very sexy dance. It is a very, like, I keep
- 24:17Speaker 3: using the word attractive, but, you know, it's a very
- 24:20Speaker 3: sexy dance. And she is so hot, and then him,
- 24:24Speaker 3: you know, we're destined to be together.
- 24:26Speaker 1: But they did a really good job. I was very
- 24:29Speaker 1: surprised at how well they did.
- 24:32Speaker 2: I was too. I mean, I, first of all, the
- 24:36Speaker 2: dancing is a huge part of the show, right? Like, yes,
- 24:39Speaker 2: it's about dancing. I just heard Julianne Hough do an
- 24:43Speaker 2: interview because they were saying, what about these stars who
- 24:47Speaker 2: have dancing background? And she's like, you know, this is
- 24:50Speaker 2: not called dancing with the non-dancers. This is called dancing
- 24:54Speaker 2: with the stars. And I'm like, yes, that's a perfect
- 24:56Speaker 2: way to put it. That it doesn't matter what dance
- 24:59Speaker 2: background you have. You're dancing on the show as a competition.
- 25:02Speaker 2: But I feel like a big part of it is
- 25:05Speaker 2: chemistry between the two partners. And Tyler and Sharna have
- 25:12Speaker 2: great chemistry. I think It's probably really hard for him
- 25:16Speaker 2: to not have great chemistry with somebody because I feel
- 25:19Speaker 2: like he is so charismatic. He is so fun and funny.
- 25:23Speaker 2: I mean, the fact that their team name is Team Shardy, I.
- 25:29Speaker 1: Can't.
- 25:31Speaker 2: It's hysterical that they're calling themselves Team Shardy. And she's
- 25:36Speaker 2: just having a ball with it. She has been on
- 25:39Speaker 2: the show for years and years, and then she took
- 25:41Speaker 2: a break to have her baby. And she's been gone,
- 25:46Speaker 2: I think, four years and now she's back and she's back.
- 25:50Speaker 3: It felt like very much of a redemption for her too,
- 25:53Speaker 3: which I really loved, right?
- 25:54Speaker 1: Like he's back.
- 25:55Speaker 3: We're all super stoked to see the stars, but also
- 25:57Speaker 3: for her to come back. And I kept hearing her
- 25:59Speaker 3: say like, I'm home.
- 26:01Speaker 1: You know what I mean? Like, I just love that.
- 26:03Speaker 1: I love it.
- 26:04Speaker 2: Totally agree. They did get a boo-boo. because there was
- 26:09Speaker 2: a lift. And when they were dancing, that's what I
- 26:12Speaker 2: said to myself. I'm like, Carrie Ann's going to take
- 26:13Speaker 2: off a point. Carrie Ann has always been a stickler
- 26:16Speaker 2: for lifts. If there is an ability to have a lift,
- 26:20Speaker 2: then obviously she will not take off points for it.
- 26:24Speaker 2: But in certain genres, in certain types of dances, you
- 26:28Speaker 2: are not technically allowed to lift. There are certain dances
- 26:32Speaker 2: that you can lift, But in this particular dance, the tango,
- 26:37Speaker 2: there was not, it's against the rules.
- 26:40Speaker 1: Oh, I didn't know that.
- 26:41Speaker 3: I thought you could just toss people around wherever it fit.
- 26:44Speaker 1: Nope.
- 26:45Speaker 2: And usually if that's the case, and you know how
- 26:48Speaker 2: he did it, like he held her arms and kind
- 26:50Speaker 2: of spun her around.
- 26:51Speaker 1: Spin me, daddy. Spin me.
- 26:53Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean, that's part of your dream. We're just
- 26:58Speaker 2: going to project.
- 26:58Speaker 1: I think he's engaged, Trista, which causes a huge problem
- 27:01Speaker 1: for me.
- 27:02Speaker 2: I'm aware. And she's so cute, too. I love their
- 27:06Speaker 2: love story. It's so cute. Anyway, so he was spinning
- 27:09Speaker 2: her around and her feet are not supposed to come
- 27:12Speaker 2: off of the ground. Okay, so usually the pros are
- 27:15Speaker 2: really good about keeping their feet like glued to the ground.
- 27:18Speaker 3: Well, he's also seven and a half feet tall. So
- 27:21Speaker 3: it's probably like she was flying.
- 27:22Speaker 1: You know what I mean?
- 27:24Speaker 3: I'm so glad that you said that because when I
- 27:25Speaker 3: was watching the show, I didn't catch that when they
- 27:29Speaker 3: said that. Something about the feet coming off the floor.
- 27:31Speaker 3: I had no clue. Probably because I was so engulfed
- 27:34Speaker 3: in his face, but that's neither here nor there. I'm
- 27:38Speaker 3: so glad that you brought that up because I didn't
- 27:41Speaker 3: understand that that's what they were talking about.
- 27:43Speaker 2: Yes.
- 27:43Speaker 1: Yes.
- 27:44Speaker 2: So in certain dances, it's against the rules. And this one,
- 27:47Speaker 2: it was against the rules. And she'll always say that.
- 27:49Speaker 2: Carrie Ann will always be the person to say, you
- 27:52Speaker 2: did a lift. I'm taking off a point. And also,
- 27:56Speaker 2: Bruno commented and said he has a lot of potential.
- 28:01Speaker 2: I got the same note from Bruno during my season.
- 28:08Speaker 1: Oh.
- 28:08Speaker 2: And that actually was like, oh, gosh, that's actually a
- 28:12Speaker 2: bad omen. I feel like I'm worried that Tyler won't
- 28:17Speaker 2: last that long.
- 28:18Speaker 1: Not my Tyler. I know.
- 28:21Speaker 3: Not my Tyler.
- 28:21Speaker 2: Tyler. I'm like, lots of potential means a good thing, usually.
- 28:28Speaker 2: But I'm also like, oh, no. Does this spell disaster
- 28:33Speaker 2: for Tyler? I hope not. I hope I'm wrong. I
- 28:36Speaker 2: hope I'm wrong.
- 28:37Speaker 3: OK, well, answer me a stupid question while we're on
- 28:40Speaker 3: this subject.
- 28:41Speaker 2: No stupid questions.
- 28:42Speaker 1: The show solely rely on voter interaction.
- 28:47Speaker 2: No. So the show is, I believe, half and half.
- 28:50Speaker 2: So judges scores. you know, they have a whole list
- 28:55Speaker 2: of the leaderboard that they'll post after at the end
- 28:58Speaker 2: of every show and it'll show you who's at the
- 29:02Speaker 2: top and who's at the bottom. Not all the time
- 29:06Speaker 2: will the bottom person go home because the other half
- 29:10Speaker 2: of the indication on who's going to go home or
- 29:14Speaker 2: the process, what's the, what's the word I'm looking for, um,
- 29:18Speaker 2: is the viewers votes. So, you know, last night, um,
- 29:23Speaker 2: They had a huge debacle.
- 29:25Speaker 1: With the voting.
- 29:27Speaker 2: And God bless Alfonso and Julianne because live hosting is
- 29:36Speaker 2: so freaking hard. I remember Chris Harrison came to used
- 29:40Speaker 2: to come to an event in Vail, like a fundraiser,
- 29:43Speaker 2: and he was always the, like, the live host, the MC, whatever,
- 29:47Speaker 2: whatever you want to call it. I was always so
- 29:51Speaker 2: freaking impressed by how good he is in a live
- 29:55Speaker 2: situation and It is so hard. I know that you've
- 29:59Speaker 2: done it too. I've done live hosting. It is a talent.
- 30:03Speaker 2: It is an art. It is really, really hard. And
- 30:06Speaker 2: I give props to Julianne and Alfonso because they have
- 30:12Speaker 2: people in their ear. And of course, this is a ballroom.
- 30:15Speaker 2: The energy is electric, as you heard people saying multiple times. Yes,
- 30:19Speaker 2: it is electric.
- 30:20Speaker 1: It's a lot of fun.
- 30:21Speaker 2: It's really loud. And so being able to hear... what
- 30:26Speaker 2: they're saying and being able to actually communicate that back
- 30:30Speaker 2: to the television cameras in a live show is really hard.
- 30:36Speaker 2: So I want to give them props, but I will
- 30:38Speaker 2: also say that they did not include the online voting.
- 30:44Speaker 2: So there's two different ways to vote. You can text
- 30:46Speaker 2: in Or you can go online to abc.com and you
- 30:50Speaker 2: have 10 votes per night. So like last night, I
- 30:56Speaker 2: voted five votes for one person and five votes for another.
- 30:59Speaker 2: You can guess at the end who I voted for.
- 31:01Speaker 1: Might better be my boyfriend.
- 31:03Speaker 2: Goodness. So five and five. And strategically, I vote based
- 31:12Speaker 2: on like, I know certain people are going to get
- 31:15Speaker 2: so many votes. So I'm like, They're fine. I don't
- 31:18Speaker 2: need to vote for them. I want to vote for
- 31:19Speaker 2: these people who I want to have them stay around. Anyway,
- 31:24Speaker 2: so getting back to the votes, there's half the judges'
- 31:28Speaker 2: scores and half is America's vote. So it's all based
- 31:32Speaker 2: on how many people have gone online or texted. And
- 31:35Speaker 2: obviously last night, they did not include online votes.
- 31:38Speaker 1: Okay, perfect.
- 31:39Speaker 3: Thank you for clearing that up because the whole thing
- 31:42Speaker 3: with the live hosting, I feel you on that. You
- 31:45Speaker 3: always look at these people. I look at actresses when
- 31:47Speaker 3: I watch shows and I'm like, I feel so easy.
- 31:49Speaker 3: You're just like, no, John, we cannot be together now
- 31:52Speaker 3: and move on.
- 31:53Speaker 1: It is a craft.
- 31:53Speaker 3: It is a real job. And the same thing with
- 31:55Speaker 3: the live hosting. But I'm wondering if you caught Derek Hough.
- 31:58Speaker 3: He called Tyler Dillon.
- 32:01Speaker 2: I sure did. I sure did. And actually, in the moment,
- 32:06Speaker 2: I thought, no one's reacting. Like, did I just hear
- 32:09Speaker 2: that right? And then, of course, on Instagram, I saw.
- 32:13Speaker 1: No one even leaned over and was like, Derek, which
- 32:16Speaker 1: show are you on?
- 32:17Speaker 3: I know.
- 32:18Speaker 2: And Julianne, even as his sister, when they came up
- 32:22Speaker 2: to her, she didn't even say anything, which normally she'll, like,
- 32:25Speaker 2: you know, harass him or whatever.
- 32:27Speaker 1: Yo, bro, get your name straight, right? You're only making, whatever,
- 32:31Speaker 1: a million dollars to do this job.
- 32:32Speaker 2: Come on, my friend.
- 32:33Speaker 3: Totally.
- 32:35Speaker 2: I do think it was really funny that he called
- 32:36Speaker 2: him Dylan because Dylan Efron was on last season. He's
- 32:40Speaker 2: Zac Efron's brother. Super hot and super tall.
- 32:43Speaker 3: I had no clue who he was until I saw
- 32:46Speaker 3: him go on Dancing with the Stars. And I'm like,
- 32:47Speaker 3: who is this cute, hot, younger brother?
- 32:49Speaker 1: Where's he been hiding?
- 32:52Speaker 2: I feel like you can totally get them confused, Dylan
- 32:55Speaker 2: and Tyler. So it was an accident that I think
- 33:00Speaker 2: could have happened to anybody. But I really felt like Yeah,
- 33:04Speaker 2: they had a missed opportunity to actually criticize Derek and
- 33:08Speaker 2: like laugh. And he had a missed opportunity to laugh
- 33:11Speaker 2: at himself. You know what I mean? But whatever. That's
- 33:13Speaker 2: not a big deal. Whatever. I think tonight's episode, he'll
- 33:18Speaker 2: say something about it for sure. So anyway, even though
- 33:22Speaker 2: the guys aren't dancing, I feel like he's going to
- 33:25Speaker 2: say something. Okay, so moving on. Dance three was Conor
- 33:29Speaker 2: Levitt and Adele, who I'm sure you didn't. I'm going
- 33:33Speaker 2: to assume because you're new to the Dancing with the
- 33:36Speaker 2: Stars family, but they just had a show called Dancing
- 33:39Speaker 2: with the Stars, The Next Pro. So Robert Irwin hosted
- 33:42Speaker 2: it and Adele was one of the next pros competing
- 33:47Speaker 2: and she won. And she was paired with Connor, who
- 33:51Speaker 2: is Whitney's wife from Mormon Wives. Okay.
- 33:55Speaker 3: That much I know, Trista, because this is all feeling
- 33:58Speaker 3: very incestual as we go from The Bachelorette to Mormon
- 34:01Speaker 3: Wives to Whitney, who.
- 34:03Speaker 1: I know from Mormon Wives.
- 34:05Speaker 3: And then I saw clips of last season that she
- 34:08Speaker 3: just freaking smashed it on Dancing with the Stars.
- 34:12Speaker 1: She was phenomenal.
- 34:13Speaker 3: So I would not say that I had high hopes
- 34:16Speaker 3: for Connor because he gives me the The ick a little?
- 34:20Speaker 1: I'm really sorry. Does he?
- 34:22Speaker 3: I'm not having midnight dreams of Connor, only Tyler. But
- 34:26Speaker 3: even in this dance, I loved his song choice, but
- 34:30Speaker 3: he's just a little too, like, magoo for me.
- 34:34Speaker 2: Understood. And I feel like he... So he does not
- 34:37Speaker 2: have any dance background. His wife, on the other hand,
- 34:40Speaker 2: was a competitive dancer growing up. And as a competitive
- 34:44Speaker 2: dance mom... I know the Utah competitive dancers. A lot
- 34:51Speaker 2: of the Utah competitive dancers who compete as like teenagers
- 34:55Speaker 2: are from a specific dance studio that all of them
- 34:58Speaker 2: come from. Derek and Julianne, Jenna Johnson, Hailey Bills, Whitney, Lindsay, Riley,
- 35:05Speaker 2: like all of these guys come from Utah. It is amazing.
- 35:10Speaker 2: It's actually Ashley Costa was a pro on my season.
- 35:15Speaker 2: And her mom owns the studio, Kim. She is a
- 35:18Speaker 2: lovely human. I love their family and this extended family.
- 35:23Speaker 2: Center Stage is the name of the dance studio. They
- 35:27Speaker 2: just know how to produce professional ballroom dancers.
- 35:32Speaker 3: Well, it sounds like those Mormons know how to produce
- 35:34Speaker 3: a lot of things.
- 35:35Speaker 1: Stop.
- 35:38Speaker 2: What?
- 35:38Speaker 1: It's true. They have beautiful hair.
- 35:42Speaker 3: They end up on reality TV. All the sodas, the
- 35:46Speaker 3: different sodas. I could go on and on.
- 35:48Speaker 1: I digress. But they're doing something right up there. Maybe
- 35:51Speaker 1: I need to hightail it up to Utah. You know
- 35:54Speaker 1: what I mean?
- 35:54Speaker 3: Heck, yeah.
- 35:55Speaker 2: And they're also the nicest people. They are. So I
- 35:58Speaker 2: will say I love their whole family. So Whitney comes
- 36:02Speaker 2: from a competitive dance ballroom or background. She is amazing.
- 36:09Speaker 2: Her and Mark Ballas. Oh my gosh. Their dances. The one,
- 36:13Speaker 2: the finale dance. If you haven't watched it, you have
- 36:17Speaker 2: to go back and watch it. It was their.
- 36:20Speaker 3: I saw it. I did see that. Even though I
- 36:23Speaker 3: did see that. We're getting way off track. I feel
- 36:25Speaker 3: like we can talk about this until we're blue in
- 36:27Speaker 3: the face.
- 36:27Speaker 1: I did see that.
- 36:28Speaker 3: And then I saw several of her stuff from her
- 36:31Speaker 3: performance in Chicago. But what I need to say to
- 36:34Speaker 3: you is that I'm not sure her... husband is measuring up. Uh,
- 36:39Speaker 3: he did not do so hot last night. He was
- 36:43Speaker 3: doing the salsa. He only scored a 12 out of
- 36:46Speaker 3: 30 Trista. Yeah.
- 36:48Speaker 2: Yeah. And honestly, I don't know that I've seen fours
- 36:52Speaker 2: before being given. Um, yeah, threes or fours. And we
- 36:57Speaker 2: had threes and fours last night.
- 36:58Speaker 3: I mean, I told you I'm no professional dancer, but
- 37:00Speaker 3: like when I was watching him, I was like, Oh,
- 37:02Speaker 3: I like my shoulders kept getting closer and closer to
- 37:04Speaker 3: my ears.
- 37:04Speaker 1: I was like, Oh no, no, no, no.
- 37:17Speaker 2: You know what else I actually wanted to say about
- 37:20Speaker 2: their performance is that you can tell the pros who
- 37:24Speaker 2: have been on the show for a long time. So
- 37:26Speaker 2: the pros on this show are responsible for the choreography
- 37:29Speaker 2: and And if you look at the last pose for
- 37:33Speaker 2: Adele and Connor, like, she ended up kind of... He
- 37:37Speaker 2: was kneeling, and she ended up kind of with her
- 37:39Speaker 2: leg on top. It was a very awkward pose, and
- 37:43Speaker 2: I thought... That is not something that I feel like
- 37:46Speaker 2: Whitney or Jenna or one of the pros would use
- 37:52Speaker 2: as their last pose.
- 37:53Speaker 3: Yeah, but you said this before, is that the chemistry
- 37:55Speaker 3: is very important. And we see that in some of
- 37:58Speaker 3: these pros. Like, we can start naming names, but, you know,
- 38:01Speaker 3: I didn't see it between the two of them. But listen,
- 38:03Speaker 3: to be honest, I don't see it between him and
- 38:06Speaker 3: his wife. So, like, what do I know? But, like,
- 38:09Speaker 3: it just wasn't their thing.
- 38:11Speaker 1: For me. It just wasn't there.
- 38:13Speaker 2: I agree.
- 38:14Speaker 1: He is not, I don't think dancing is in his future.
- 38:17Speaker 3: Unfortunately.
- 38:18Speaker 1: No.
- 38:19Speaker 2: And you know what? That's okay. It doesn't need to
- 38:20Speaker 2: be in everybody's future. You know, it's all good. I
- 38:23Speaker 2: love that he tried. And I will say, like, I
- 38:25Speaker 2: give props to all of these people because it is
- 38:28Speaker 2: so intimidating to be in the ballroom, especially if you've
- 38:30Speaker 2: never been a dancer before.
- 38:32Speaker 3: Trista, I am sitting here behind my computer screen. I mean,
- 38:36Speaker 3: picking these people apart.
- 38:38Speaker 1: You know, come on.
- 38:39Speaker 2: It's all good. It's all good. We get it. Okay,
- 38:42Speaker 2: so the next dance was Guillermo and Whitney. Guillermo is
- 38:47Speaker 2: Jimmy Kimmel's sidekick from forever ago. He performed to Mr.
- 38:52Speaker 2: Big Stuff, did the cha-cha, and he did get two
- 38:56Speaker 2: threes and a four.
- 38:58Speaker 1: Painful.
- 39:00Speaker 2: Yeah, it was pretty painful, but I will say I
- 39:02Speaker 2: love his outlook, like that he's like, listen, I just
- 39:06Speaker 2: want to have fun. I want to lose some weight.
- 39:08Speaker 2: People are saying I want to lose, you know, that
- 39:10Speaker 2: you can lose a lot of weight on this show
- 39:13Speaker 2: because you rehearse nonstop. I love that he had his family,
- 39:17Speaker 2: you know, his family was super supportive in the ballroom.
- 39:22Speaker 2: I love seeing that because this show is truly not
- 39:26Speaker 2: about all like dancers who have danced before Like we
- 39:30Speaker 2: said before, it's about people who are putting themselves out
- 39:33Speaker 2: there and doing something new and out of their comfort zone.
- 39:38Speaker 2: And I give him props for that. He did get
- 39:40Speaker 2: two threes and a four. So he had the lowest
- 39:42Speaker 2: score of the night also that's a spoiler for the
- 39:45Speaker 2: rest of it but um he got a 10 out
- 39:47Speaker 2: of 30 so yeah um yeah we'll get into who
- 39:50Speaker 2: went home in a bit but um he did have
- 39:53Speaker 2: the lowest score.
- 39:54Speaker 3: Let's talk about like let's just hit a couple of
- 39:57Speaker 3: your favorites from the night trista and and even touching
- 40:01Speaker 3: on a little bit on maybe who wasn't your favorite
- 40:03Speaker 3: but like let's hit like some high notes here Well, why.
- 40:06Speaker 2: Don't we get through? Let's get through all the rest
- 40:10Speaker 2: of them, and then I'm for sure going to touch
- 40:12Speaker 2: on my favorites. And maybe when we talk about them,
- 40:15Speaker 2: I can say it, but I feel like Tyler definitely
- 40:18Speaker 2: came out the gate. I was like, I loved his dance.
- 40:21Speaker 2: I felt like the chemistry with him and Sharna was amazing.
- 40:26Speaker 2: Like we said, I think before we started recording today,
- 40:30Speaker 2: You know, they start the show. This is a producer move.
- 40:33Speaker 2: And I know it. You know it, even though you
- 40:36Speaker 2: were denying that you believe it, is from the Bachelorette.
- 40:41Speaker 2: Take the Bachelorette. They're going to have a guy come
- 40:43Speaker 2: out of the limo. First guy come out of the
- 40:46Speaker 2: limo is going to be a ringer, right? He's going
- 40:48Speaker 2: to be somebody who fans are going to want to see,
- 40:51Speaker 2: who people can get behind, right? He's going to be exciting.
- 40:55Speaker 2: And then the last one to come out of the
- 40:57Speaker 2: limo is also going to be really exciting. They're going
- 41:00Speaker 2: to want to be bookmarks, right? And so... Same thing
- 41:05Speaker 2: with Dancing with the Stars. They're going to have a
- 41:06Speaker 2: guy come out who has a really big fan base,
- 41:09Speaker 2: who they know has a really great dance because they
- 41:12Speaker 2: saw it in dress rehearsal, and then they're going to
- 41:15Speaker 2: determine the lineup. And so they started with Emma and Jackson,
- 41:20Speaker 2: who had a really strong performance, and then you'll see
- 41:25Speaker 2: in the end of the show who they picked for
- 41:28Speaker 2: the end. And then they'll fill in, sprinkle in everybody else.
- 41:34Speaker 2: And so if that shows you anything, like the two
- 41:38Speaker 2: dancers who got the lowest scores were third and fourth,
- 41:42Speaker 2: you know. And then we pick it back up and
- 41:45Speaker 2: the energy kind of comes back up. The next dance,
- 41:48Speaker 2: speaking of the energy coming back up, is Ezra and Daniela. Oh, yeah.
- 41:54Speaker 2: This was my favorite dance.
- 41:55Speaker 1: So good.
- 41:56Speaker 2: Favorite dance. He, like, I literally have chills just thinking
- 42:01Speaker 2: about it. He's a Paralympic athlete. He lost his leg
- 42:05Speaker 2: when he was a child and his thing. I didn't
- 42:09Speaker 2: realize his hand too, which is also so hard. I mean,
- 42:13Speaker 2: just if you, if you took away the fact that
- 42:15Speaker 2: he's a, he's an amputee, his leg is amputated and
- 42:20Speaker 2: just his hand, like he had his big toe cut.
- 42:24Speaker 2: Taken off when they amputated and put on his hand
- 42:28Speaker 2: so that he can grip, which was genius of that doctor.
- 42:32Speaker 2: I know. So his story, just first of all, fans
- 42:37Speaker 2: I know are falling in love with him. He's one
- 42:40Speaker 2: of those guys. You maybe have heard of, maybe not.
- 42:45Speaker 2: But holy cow, he is one that I guarantee you,
- 42:49Speaker 2: his growth on social is going to go like this.
- 42:53Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 42:54Speaker 2: Because now that people know who he is, we are
- 42:56Speaker 2: all falling in love with him at the same time.
- 42:58Speaker 3: We all love that story. It's the same thing on
- 43:01Speaker 3: all of the reality shows that we watch. We need
- 43:04Speaker 3: someone to cheer for. And as soon as he came out,
- 43:06Speaker 3: and I'm being just like a regular viewer, Trista, not
- 43:09Speaker 3: having seen the show before. As soon as he came
- 43:12Speaker 3: out and they told even the smallest bit of his story,
- 43:14Speaker 3: I was.
- 43:14Speaker 1: Like, well, Okay. I love him. I need him to
- 43:17Speaker 1: win and live forever and be president. You know what
- 43:20Speaker 1: I mean? Right. Totally. Amazing. Amazing. And he did amazing
- 43:24Speaker 1: to see someone go out there. Amazing.
- 43:26Speaker 3: I can't do it on my own two feet. To
- 43:29Speaker 3: see him go out there and freaking smash it. I
- 43:33Speaker 3: was just like, I was blown away. I was blown away. Same.
- 43:36Speaker 2: Same. Same. And the fact that Daniela, you know, as
- 43:42Speaker 2: a choreographer, she has to choreograph a number. But she
- 43:46Speaker 2: also has to, like, this is kind of the finesse
- 43:49Speaker 2: of the pros on the show, is they have to
- 43:54Speaker 2: create a number that not only includes all of the
- 43:59Speaker 2: things that they probably should include in the tango, in
- 44:01Speaker 2: the cha-cha, in the jive, in the quick step, whatever.
- 44:04Speaker 2: Have all of those technical elements, or a lot of them,
- 44:06Speaker 2: or as many as they can. But also... go to
- 44:11Speaker 2: the strengths of your, of your, of your celeb. So
- 44:16Speaker 2: the fact that he couldn't, you know, he tried both
- 44:18Speaker 2: of his legs, his, um, his prosthetics and the one
- 44:23Speaker 2: that they stuck with was the one that he uses
- 44:26Speaker 2: for running and he couldn't walk like straight. And in
- 44:30Speaker 2: the tango, that's, I guess something that you need to do.
- 44:33Speaker 2: I never did the tango on the show, but it's
- 44:36Speaker 2: something that usually is pretty typical of the tango. Well,
- 44:39Speaker 2: he had to kind of walk sideways and she's like,
- 44:42Speaker 2: that's just what we're going to do. They modified it
- 44:45Speaker 2: so that they could, uh, lean in on his abilities
- 44:51Speaker 2: and his strengths. And I love that, that whole, that
- 44:56Speaker 2: whole notion that everyone can do this show no matter what,
- 45:00Speaker 2: like he is a above the knee amputee, which is
- 45:03Speaker 2: a lot like they talked about Amy Purdy. She got
- 45:06Speaker 2: to the finals with Derek Hough and she's a below
- 45:09Speaker 2: the knee amputee. You have a whole lot more control
- 45:12Speaker 2: from what I understand as a past physical therapist being an,
- 45:17Speaker 2: a below knee amputee compared to an above knee. Like he,
- 45:21Speaker 2: he shined last night and their chemistry. Oh, I mean, she,
- 45:27Speaker 2: it's hard for her to not have chemistry to Deanna
- 45:30Speaker 2: as a newbie. She was, you, you were talking about
- 45:33Speaker 2: Tyler and how tall he is and everything. When you
- 45:37Speaker 2: want to talk tall, you look at Daniela and one
- 45:40Speaker 2: of her past pro or past celebs was an NBA player.
- 45:45Speaker 2: I cannot remember, remember his name, but he was on
- 45:48Speaker 2: special forces. He was on, I believe traders.
- 45:52Speaker 1: So tall.
- 45:53Speaker 2: Like I want to say like seven and a half
- 45:56Speaker 2: feet tall or eight. He's so tall and she's tiny.
- 46:00Speaker 2: And so, like, the difference. Yeah, I know. And they
- 46:04Speaker 2: made it work. And they made this work. Ezra and
- 46:08Speaker 2: Daniela just shone last night.
- 46:11Speaker 1: It was amazing.
- 46:12Speaker 3: Like, if that's dance for me, like, I'm sold. Like,
- 46:14Speaker 3: it was really, really, really great. So, one of my
- 46:17Speaker 3: other favorites from the night was Taylor Hansen, mostly because
- 46:21Speaker 3: I grew up listening to him. And I know I
- 46:24Speaker 3: text you separately, Trista, but, like, for everybody listening.
- 46:27Speaker 1: He has seven children. They cannot even sit at one.
- 46:29Speaker 3: Like, in one row on an airplane. I was like,
- 46:32Speaker 3: what's he doing with all those kids? And he's still
- 46:34Speaker 3: a kid.
- 46:35Speaker 1: You know what I mean? We grew up with these guys.
- 46:37Speaker 1: I like loved him.
- 46:38Speaker 3: I think that if, if we're making predictions, Trista, like
- 46:42Speaker 3: I think he's good.
- 46:43Speaker 1: Well, tyler okay i love right we got.
- 46:46Speaker 3: Him here but like i think my hansen is gonna
- 46:50Speaker 3: go far like i i think that he was very
- 46:53Speaker 3: non-assuming i think he did well he didn't come out
- 46:56Speaker 3: of the gate like flashing stars yeah but i think
- 46:59Speaker 3: that he's a natural born performer obviously and i think
- 47:03Speaker 3: he's gonna do really well.
- 47:06Speaker 2: I mean, I love that, and I think that you
- 47:09Speaker 2: are not alone in that. There's a guy named, I think,
- 47:11Speaker 2: Bobby Bones. He was on the show, and he has
- 47:15Speaker 2: predicted the last four years or something like that of
- 47:18Speaker 2: the winners, and he said that Taylor is going to win,
- 47:21Speaker 2: or maybe it was the figure skater, the girl. I,
- 47:25Speaker 2: as a dancer, I agree with you on the performance level,
- 47:29Speaker 2: and he has a massive following.
- 47:32Speaker 1: Oh, does he really?
- 47:33Speaker 2: Massive following.
- 47:35Speaker 1: So.
- 47:36Speaker 2: I think that that will get him far in the show.
- 47:39Speaker 2: I don't think he's going to win. I just feel
- 47:42Speaker 2: like he is not necessarily a dancer when you compare
- 47:48Speaker 2: dancing ability, but he is a great performer. So I
- 47:52Speaker 2: know that he's going to last long in the show.
- 47:54Speaker 2: And so many of us, especially Ashley, I are such
- 47:59Speaker 2: huge fans of Hanson. So I feel like he's going
- 48:03Speaker 2: to stay for a really long time. And Britt, too.
- 48:06Speaker 3: I mean, maybe I have psychic abilities, but like what
- 48:09Speaker 3: happened with the flash forward for me was like, he's
- 48:11Speaker 3: going to do well. His career is going to revive.
- 48:14Speaker 3: He's going to come out with a new album and
- 48:16Speaker 3: we're all going to be like, oh my.
- 48:18Speaker 1: God, the Hanson brothers, they're back. It's fine. I'm here
- 48:23Speaker 1: for it. I will fangirl all night with you, Trista.
- 48:25Speaker 1: It's all good.
- 48:26Speaker 3: Yeah. Okay.
- 48:27Speaker 2: And then last was Harry Shum Jr. from Grey's Anatomy.
- 48:32Speaker 1: Glee.
- 48:32Speaker 2: He's a backup dancer. He's paired with Jenna Johnson. Now,
- 48:35Speaker 2: I have to say, even if it wasn't someone who
- 48:38Speaker 2: had a professional dance background, I still think Jenna Johnson
- 48:43Speaker 2: is such a huge fan favorite that she's going to
- 48:46Speaker 2: stay for a while, even if she doesn't.
- 48:48Speaker 3: Yeah, even I know who she is just from seeing
- 48:51Speaker 3: her on social media. But he was really amazing. Just
- 48:54Speaker 3: I didn't know who he was. And I'm a Grey's fan.
- 48:57Speaker 3: When they go on set and he's in his Grey's
- 48:59Speaker 3: Anatomy coat, I'm like, who is that?
- 49:00Speaker 1: Where'd he come from? Who's that man?
- 49:04Speaker 2: So it's funny that you said that because I'm like,
- 49:07Speaker 2: I'm a huge Grey's fan. I watch it, you know, currently,
- 49:10Speaker 2: and I love him on the show. I think the
- 49:13Speaker 2: fact that he's filming Grey's during Dancing with the Stars
- 49:16Speaker 2: is also really hard, wild, but he a professional dancer,
- 49:21Speaker 2: has that in his background. I love that his daughter
- 49:23Speaker 2: was in the audience, dressed to the nines. She looked adorable.
- 49:27Speaker 2: Their chemistry is amazing. And he got the highest scores
- 49:31Speaker 2: of the night.
- 49:32Speaker 3: I thought it was very well-deserved. Coming from someone who
- 49:34Speaker 3: knows nothing about dance, I thought it was very well-deserved.
- 49:36Speaker 1: He blew me away.
- 49:37Speaker 2: I totally agree.
- 49:39Speaker 1: So good.
- 49:39Speaker 2: Okay. So they get to, they do Julianne's dance and
- 49:43Speaker 2: then they get to the eliminations. And as you kind
- 49:47Speaker 2: of hinted to, yeah, it was Connor and Adele. And
- 49:51Speaker 2: I think, you know, honestly, Whitney was paired with Guillermo.
- 49:56Speaker 2: She's pregnant. I think they knew that he probably wouldn't
- 49:58Speaker 2: last that long as the, you know, the casting directors, whatever.
- 50:02Speaker 2: And I think Connor and Adele, like Adele is the
- 50:05Speaker 2: next pro. She was the new pro on the show.
- 50:08Speaker 2: And I think They gave her, you know, this opportunity
- 50:11Speaker 2: and she'll stay on the show. She'll still be dancing.
- 50:14Speaker 2: But I think they kind of, you know, think about
- 50:18Speaker 2: the casting. I was sad for Whitney because she was
- 50:21Speaker 2: all in. I'm sure you saw when they were, like,
- 50:24Speaker 2: Julianne was doing something and Whitney was behind her going like,
- 50:28Speaker 2: vote for Connor, go vote now. Yeah.
- 50:31Speaker 1: Yeah. It was fine.
- 50:32Speaker 3: I trust, I wasn't sad about it. I was like,
- 50:34Speaker 3: by Connor, I hope you, they're, they're going to be
- 50:36Speaker 3: just fine.
- 50:36Speaker 2: Right.
- 50:37Speaker 3: I mean, they're going to be, they're going to be
- 50:38Speaker 3: just fine. It was time to see you go. It, the,
- 50:41Speaker 3: the dance laid flat for me. So that's by, I
- 50:45Speaker 3: cannot wait to see more like dances and more eliminations.
- 50:49Speaker 1: Like I think I'm fully invested now. And then, uh,
- 50:52Speaker 1: what tonight we get to see the women, right?
- 50:54Speaker 2: So excited.
- 50:55Speaker 1: I am actually really.
- 50:56Speaker 3: Excited for the women because I mean, men, obviously I
- 50:59Speaker 3: find attractive and I'm like enjoying looking at all these guys,
- 51:01Speaker 3: but like women move so beautifully to me and dance
- 51:06Speaker 3: in particular.
- 51:07Speaker 1: You know what I mean?
- 51:08Speaker 3: Women are just gorgeous. And I love to see the
- 51:10Speaker 3: way women move, but this will be the first time
- 51:13Speaker 3: for me where I get to see the two women
