- 0:00Speaker 1: What's going on everybody. Welcome to this Opposition Territory podcast
- 0:04Speaker 1: this week. We are recording this show on Tuesday, March eighteenth,
- 0:08Speaker 1: twenty twenty five. By the time you hear this, some
- 0:11Speaker 1: things may have changed here or there, but we hope
- 0:12Speaker 1: you enjoyed the show. Welcome to Opposition Territory here at
- 0:31Speaker 1: the Philadelphia Sports Table podcast show, the longest running weekly
- 0:34Speaker 1: Philly sports podcast show in the world. That's right next April,
- 0:38Speaker 1: it's going to be twelve years of the PSD podcast show.
- 0:42Speaker 1: Looking forward to how we are going to be celebrating
- 0:45Speaker 1: our twelfth year. But right now, we've got a great
- 0:47Speaker 1: Opposition Territory pod and discussion coming your way this week,
- 0:51Speaker 1: where we dive into an NFC team that has certainly
- 0:56Speaker 1: been interesting to follow this offseason, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
- 1:00Speaker 1: They've got some players that they have resigned and what's
- 1:03Speaker 1: going to be the direction of this team before the
- 1:05Speaker 1: coming season. We got a great discussion, let's get to it.
- 1:08Speaker 1: Joining us this week from A to Z Sports. He
- 1:12Speaker 1: has been over there for some time. He and his
- 1:14Speaker 1: colleagues do a fantastic job and you can follow him
- 1:18Speaker 1: and all of his colleagues again over at a to
- 1:21Speaker 1: Z sports dot Com. We've got our good friend Evan Winter.
- 1:25Speaker 2: How you doing, buddy, def I'm great, man, couldn't be
- 1:27Speaker 2: better first week if free agency is a rap? And yeah,
- 1:30Speaker 2: now we're heading in Now we're heading into official draft season.
- 1:33Speaker 2: I mean, you know, you can argue draft seasons year long,
- 1:36Speaker 2: but now it really cranks up.
- 1:37Speaker 3: So I'm astatic man, happy to be on exactly.
- 1:39Speaker 1: Hey man, it's great having you. I'm always appreciate your time.
- 1:42Speaker 1: And you know, at this point in the year, you know,
- 1:44Speaker 1: every team of the NFL, I think has their theme
- 1:48Speaker 1: to their offseason. What they want that theme to be?
- 1:51Speaker 1: Every single team all thirty two s are you know,
- 1:54Speaker 1: spending gobs of money like the New England Patriots are doing.
- 1:58Speaker 1: Some are kind of waiting for the draft here to
- 2:00Speaker 1: get younger, like the Philadelphia Eagles are seemingly doing. I'm
- 2:04Speaker 1: wondering what's the theme of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers offseason
- 2:08Speaker 1: thus far as they are looking to compete further in
- 2:11Speaker 1: the NFC this coming season.
- 2:13Speaker 2: Yeah, I think you can split it up into two parts,
- 2:15Speaker 2: with one part being a little bit bigger than the other,
- 2:17Speaker 2: but the other, the smaller part is still important, and
- 2:20Speaker 2: the first part is continuity. You know, we'll talk about
- 2:23Speaker 2: this a little bit later, but the Bucks return to
- 2:24Speaker 2: all eleven starters on offense, which is just absolutely critical.
- 2:28Speaker 2: Ben Bredeson, I'll talk about him a little bit later.
- 2:31Speaker 2: That's their left guard that recently was extended. But he
- 2:34Speaker 2: talked about how he's never experienced this kind of continuity
- 2:38Speaker 2: in his entire career. Now, granted, he played for the
- 2:39Speaker 2: Giants for three years before coming Bay, so you know that, yeah,
- 2:44Speaker 2: that's its own thing, but still, you know, he continuity
- 2:48Speaker 2: is so rare in today's in today's game, and to
- 2:51Speaker 2: be able to have that, especially one on one side
- 2:55Speaker 2: of the balls, that's absolutely huge. But the larger theme
- 2:58Speaker 2: and the overall theme of the off season so far
- 3:01Speaker 2: is building from the roster from the ground or sorry,
- 3:03Speaker 2: from the bottom up. And you know when you've got
- 3:07Speaker 2: you know, Tampa Bay's got a pleuthora of talent. I mean,
- 3:09Speaker 2: just look at the offensive side of the ball. I
- 3:11Speaker 2: mean they're running backs, their wide receivers, even the tight
- 3:13Speaker 2: end kot and they're they're all above average to elite
- 3:17Speaker 2: in you know, in today's game. So when you have
- 3:21Speaker 2: players like that, then you've got Jamil Deane at corner
- 3:23Speaker 2: and then you've got you know, really good defensive line viave.
- 3:26Speaker 2: So you've got a lot of pop talent at premium positions.
- 3:29Speaker 2: So why not build the roster from the bottom up,
- 3:31Speaker 2: you know, fortify your depth.
- 3:33Speaker 3: I mean, if.
- 3:34Speaker 2: Anybody paid any close attention to Tampa at all last year,
- 3:37Speaker 2: they know just how many injuries they went through on
- 3:39Speaker 2: the defensive side of the ball. Offensive offense stayed attached
- 3:42Speaker 2: for the most part, but the defense just got ravaged.
- 3:44Speaker 2: And the depth, the depth exposed the team. You know,
- 3:46Speaker 2: big reason why they lost to the Commanders was because
- 3:48Speaker 2: of their lack of depth. So they're really building and
- 3:51Speaker 2: fortifying that spot or that part of a roster. And
- 3:54Speaker 2: it makes sense, especially for a playoff contender, when you
- 3:58Speaker 2: got you're gonna need, you know, those eyes to step
- 4:00Speaker 2: up when the postseason comes inevitably.
- 4:02Speaker 1: Absolutely, Look, we're gonna get into the defense a decent
- 4:04Speaker 1: amount on this particular opposition territory show with regard to
- 4:09Speaker 1: the Buccaneers, And I guess ad a good spot to
- 4:13Speaker 1: really start diving into this Buccaneers defense is what is
- 4:16Speaker 1: going to happen with the future of the cornerback position
- 4:20Speaker 1: and even in terms of the secondary because you know,
- 4:22Speaker 1: yesterday as we're recording this here on Tuesday, March eighteenth,
- 4:26Speaker 1: you know, yesterday we saw Derek Stingley. It was now
- 4:29Speaker 1: the highest paid cornerback in the NFL. The Texans. They
- 4:33Speaker 1: are giving him thirty million dollars over the next three years.
- 4:36Speaker 1: Eighty nine million of that is guaranteed. It is such
- 4:39Speaker 1: a crazy market for NFL players and NFL teams as well.
- 4:43Speaker 1: I mean, you got billionaire owners who can certainly afford
- 4:46Speaker 1: these contracts. But of course, as we know, in the NFL,
- 4:49Speaker 1: there is a salary cap. But I wanted to get
- 4:51Speaker 1: your thoughts on how this particular move is going to
- 4:55Speaker 1: affect the cornerback position for the Bucks down the future, Zion.
- 5:00Speaker 1: I mean, he is going to need to be you know,
- 5:02Speaker 1: extended at some point down the road. And it's interesting,
- 5:05Speaker 1: you know, I mean, just you know, you could reflect
- 5:07Speaker 1: on Tom Brady in his time with the Tampa Bay
- 5:10Speaker 1: Buccaneers when he was paid thirty million dollars a year,
- 5:13Speaker 1: and now we're seeing cornerbacks getting paid thirty million dollars
- 5:16Speaker 1: a year like Derek Stingley here. I mean, is this
- 5:19Speaker 1: a I mean, what what's it going to do for
- 5:20Speaker 1: the Buccaneers in terms of the financial aspects of what
- 5:23Speaker 1: the game of professional football has become.
- 5:26Speaker 2: Yeah, it's really interesting because Jamel Dean, he's there corner
- 5:30Speaker 2: CEV one right now. He's already his question is already
- 5:34Speaker 2: in future, or his future is already in question. Rather
- 5:36Speaker 2: I should say yeah. And there is a report that
- 5:39Speaker 2: came out a couple of weeks ago, and we had it,
- 5:40Speaker 2: we got it confirmed on our end that the Bucks
- 5:43Speaker 2: are going to release him if he doesn't take a
- 5:45Speaker 2: pay cut.
- 5:45Speaker 3: Now, obviously neither of that has happened yet.
- 5:48Speaker 2: He hasn't agreed to the pay cut yet, nor has
- 5:50Speaker 2: he been cut, So obviously that's something that they're just gonna.
- 5:52Speaker 2: I think we'll figure out. But after this year, man,
- 5:55Speaker 2: if he does not number one stay healthy for the
- 5:58Speaker 2: entire season and then number two just have a really
- 6:00Speaker 2: good year, he's definitely gone next year.
- 6:02Speaker 3: So the last year is deal the Bucks.
- 6:04Speaker 2: I don't I think very little of it, if hardly
- 6:06Speaker 2: any of it at all, is guaranteed money, So you know,
- 6:09Speaker 2: to clean cut they can save a lot of cap room.
- 6:12Speaker 2: But then mentioning Zion the column, he's gonna he is
- 6:16Speaker 2: due for an extension over the next year. Now I
- 6:17Speaker 2: think he's gonna get paid more than sixteen to eighteen
- 6:19Speaker 2: million a year range, kind of like what Jamel Dean's
- 6:22Speaker 2: getting paid.
- 6:22Speaker 3: He isn't.
- 6:22Speaker 2: His resume doesn't even get close to stacking up to
- 6:24Speaker 2: Derek Stingley. Zion's a really good player, above average corner
- 6:28Speaker 2: in this in this league. But now if he goes
- 6:30Speaker 2: off and has an all Pro season this year picks
- 6:32Speaker 2: off six passes, that's well, we'll talk again at the
- 6:35Speaker 2: end of the year.
- 6:35Speaker 3: Yeah, but I.
- 6:38Speaker 2: Definitely think this pushed his price tag up a bit
- 6:41Speaker 2: and spinning it back to Jamel Dean. I think this
- 6:45Speaker 2: all but assured that he's gone after this year because
- 6:49Speaker 2: whatever he wants gets his next payday, which will be
- 6:52Speaker 2: after next year. If he sticks for the Bucks, his
- 6:54Speaker 2: price tag is going to go up because he's a
- 6:56Speaker 2: starting corner and when he's healthy, he is a very
- 6:58Speaker 2: good corner. He's probably a top twelve corner in this
- 7:01Speaker 2: league when he's healthy. If he could just catch the
- 7:04Speaker 2: damn ball, he would be top five. So regardless, it
- 7:08Speaker 2: really puts the Bucks cornerback room in an interesting position.
- 7:11Speaker 2: I think Zion is one more year away from getting
- 7:14Speaker 2: his extension. I think he needs to finish out as
- 7:15Speaker 2: rookie deal. But now with the Stingley deal, does that
- 7:19Speaker 2: put more pressure or for lack of a better word,
- 7:24Speaker 2: does that speed up the Bucks clock in terms of
- 7:27Speaker 2: when they want because they would want to get out
- 7:28Speaker 2: in front of this instead of having to pay him
- 7:30Speaker 2: maybe twenty five million a year like J. C.
- 7:32Speaker 3: Horn Gott.
- 7:33Speaker 2: So really interesting, really interesting development, and it definitely can
- 7:36Speaker 2: have an impact on the Bucks short and long term
- 7:39Speaker 2: future at the position.
- 7:40Speaker 1: Absolutely. Look, I mean when it comes to this Bucks defense,
- 7:43Speaker 1: like you said initially, I mean, this is where some
- 7:45Speaker 1: restructuring is certainly going to be happening. We've already been
- 7:47Speaker 1: seeing it happen with this Buccaneers team. The Bucks now
- 7:52Speaker 1: have a former Eagle in Hassan Reddick that they have
- 7:55Speaker 1: added to their defense. I mean last year the Bucks
- 7:58Speaker 1: had forty six sacks. They were sixth overall in the
- 8:01Speaker 1: NFL for sacks. I mean that's nothing. I mean, that's
- 8:04Speaker 1: nothing to you know, put your nose up in the
- 8:06Speaker 1: in the air about you know, pretty successful. They're gonna
- 8:09Speaker 1: be getting a proven talent for sure to bolster their
- 8:12Speaker 1: pass rush in Hassan Reddick. But I do wonder when
- 8:15Speaker 1: it comes to Reddick, Evan, you know, when he finally
- 8:18Speaker 1: came back to the Jets after holding out uh and
- 8:21Speaker 1: only had one sack in ten games, did he actually
- 8:25Speaker 1: hurt his career by sitting out as long as he did,
- 8:27Speaker 1: Because we've seen instances in the NFL where players have
- 8:31Speaker 1: held out for long periods of time and never really
- 8:33Speaker 1: got back into form. I'm wondering, do you have any
- 8:36Speaker 1: concerns that this might actually be happening with Hassan Reddick.
- 8:40Speaker 1: You know, even though he does have a proven track record,
- 8:42Speaker 1: what are your thoughts about bringing him to the team,
- 8:44Speaker 1: and you know what that holdout could potentially mean for
- 8:46Speaker 1: him and his productivity in Tampa Bay.
- 8:49Speaker 2: Oh, trust me, I have plenty of thoughts on it,
- 8:50Speaker 2: and we'll get into that just a second. But I
- 8:52Speaker 2: do think it is worth mentioning. And it's pretty cool too.
- 8:55Speaker 2: The Bucks have had forty six sacks every single season,
- 8:57Speaker 2: or at least forty six sacks every single season as
- 9:00Speaker 2: Todd Bowles came in twenty nineteen. It's pretty impressive. And
- 9:03Speaker 2: then the problem though with last year's forty six is
- 9:07Speaker 2: over half of them twenty three and a half, but
- 9:09Speaker 2: still that counts as over twenty three and a half
- 9:12Speaker 2: of those forty six sacks came from the defensive lineman,
- 9:14Speaker 2: did not come from the outside pass rushers, which so
- 9:18Speaker 2: Vidavea Clija Kansi Logan hall I mean Vidavea and Klija
- 9:22Speaker 2: Kansi both were the top two sackers last year for
- 9:24Speaker 2: the Bucks. But then you know other backup defensive linemen.
- 9:28Speaker 2: So the Bucks really need and this all blends into Hassan,
- 9:30Speaker 2: trust me, the Bucks really need an outside presence Yahya
- 9:34Speaker 2: Davi Yayad Dyabi. He was I think seventh among all
- 9:38Speaker 2: edge rushers last year in total pressures, but he only
- 9:41Speaker 2: finished the year with four and a half sacks, so
- 9:43Speaker 2: he was getting there, he wasn't getting home. The Bucks
- 9:46Speaker 2: needed a closer. They went out and got the wrong
- 9:48Speaker 2: guy though, in the Son Reddick. And the reason why
- 9:51Speaker 2: is because number one, you can't trust his mindset, his attitude,
- 9:55Speaker 2: how he's going to approach the game. The whole the
- 9:57Speaker 2: bacle with the Jets last year. Sure it's easy to
- 10:00Speaker 2: just say, oh, well it's the Jets they bungled it. No,
- 10:03Speaker 2: Hassan definitely had his own role to play in the
- 10:06Speaker 2: whole deal. Yeah, just kind of left the Jets to
- 10:09Speaker 2: high and dry in the beginning after agreeing to certain
- 10:11Speaker 2: accords and whatnot. So you can't trust him overall, just
- 10:16Speaker 2: in terms of how he might react to negative developments
- 10:19Speaker 2: on the field, negative developments in the locker room, just
- 10:21Speaker 2: whatever it might be. That's already a problem in an issue.
- 10:24Speaker 2: And the number two, like you said, once he did
- 10:26Speaker 2: return last year, he only recorded one sack in ten games. Yeah,
- 10:30Speaker 2: playing a decent amount of snaps as well. And here's
- 10:32Speaker 2: the kicker. People look at him and say he's an
- 10:35Speaker 2: upgrade over what the Bucks had last year. Overall, Yes,
- 10:39Speaker 2: that's probably true. I need to see it play out
- 10:42Speaker 2: on the field before I even hop on that train.
- 10:44Speaker 3: But listen to this.
- 10:45Speaker 2: When you go down the PFF and you look up
- 10:47Speaker 2: under their true pass sets, the pass rush win rate
- 10:50Speaker 2: against the true passet last year, every single Bucks pass
- 10:54Speaker 2: rusher had a better win rate than Hassan hered It. Wow,
- 10:57Speaker 2: every single one. Yeah, every single Even Chris Braswell, who
- 11:01Speaker 2: who finished the year with one and a half sacks
- 11:04Speaker 2: play barely two hundred snaps, had a better win rate
- 11:07Speaker 2: than Hasan Reddick. And he didn't really have a good
- 11:09Speaker 2: year last year, so you know, it's a major, major
- 11:13Speaker 2: dice roll from the Bucks. But they needed a guy
- 11:16Speaker 2: to come in here and get it done. If he
- 11:19Speaker 2: can revert back to just his pre twenty twenty four form,
- 11:22Speaker 2: then I'll shut my big mouth and then I'll say
- 11:25Speaker 2: I was wrong and the Bucks will get their guy.
- 11:28Speaker 2: But I just don't see that happening. I see him
- 11:31Speaker 2: maybe getting six seven sacks tops, which is not worth
- 11:34Speaker 2: the money he's making, which is not worth the potential
- 11:36Speaker 2: headache he could bring. And yeah, at the end of
- 11:39Speaker 2: the day, it's a one year deal. It's not a
- 11:41Speaker 2: long term solution either. So you know, we'll see what happens.
- 11:45Speaker 2: But I just, man, I absolutely hated the move. Yeah,
- 11:49Speaker 2: I'm a big character guy as well, so I do
- 11:52Speaker 2: lean a little bias in this in terms of my
- 11:54Speaker 2: overall evaluation, but the on field play as well, it's
- 11:57Speaker 2: just wasn't there. We'll see if you can pick it
- 11:59Speaker 2: back up. I don't think he will be.
- 12:00Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a concern for sure when it comes to
- 12:02Speaker 1: Bucks Nation and what's going to be happening with the
- 12:04Speaker 1: pass rush. And again, folks, we're talking to Evan Winter
- 12:07Speaker 1: from A to Z Sports Dot com he's running the
- 12:10Speaker 1: NFL side of things over there, doing a fantastic job. Evan.
- 12:13Speaker 1: Where can folks find you on the interwebs out there?
- 12:16Speaker 1: Various social media slights. I know you're on Twitter, slash x,
- 12:18Speaker 1: not sure if you're over on Blue Sky, threads, anything
- 12:21Speaker 1: like that. Feel free to let everybody know where they
- 12:23Speaker 1: can find you on the interwebs.
- 12:25Speaker 2: Yeah, so Twitter at Evan underscore a to z and
- 12:27Speaker 2: that's atoz, not the number two in between. And then
- 12:30Speaker 2: on Blue Sky I believe it's the same thing. I'm
- 12:32Speaker 2: not entirely sure. I don't want to create some dead
- 12:34Speaker 2: air bomb looking at my Blue Sky profile handle, but
- 12:37Speaker 2: I'm pretty sure it's the same thing either way. You
- 12:39Speaker 2: can find me on there, I'm sure if you do
- 12:41Speaker 2: a name search or something like that.
- 12:42Speaker 1: All right, well, let's get into some specific aspect of
- 12:46Speaker 1: the offense of this Bucks team as we're heading into
- 12:49Speaker 1: twenty twenty five season. Here. The re signing the wide
- 12:52Speaker 1: receiver Chris Godwin was absolutely huge for this Bucks offense,
- 12:56Speaker 1: at least in my opinion. They like you mentioned earlier,
- 12:59Speaker 1: they have all eleven starters coming back this upcoming season
- 13:03Speaker 1: on offense, and I'm wondering though, do you like this
- 13:07Speaker 1: as a fan and could they have done anything different
- 13:10Speaker 1: or gone in a different direction in terms of the
- 13:13Speaker 1: offense overall during this offseason again, bringing all eleven starters back,
- 13:18Speaker 1: you know what you have, but I would think that
- 13:20Speaker 1: at certain positions perhaps you may want an upgrade here
- 13:24Speaker 1: or there. What are your thoughts here, Evan.
- 13:26Speaker 2: I absolutely love it and it was a great signing,
- 13:28Speaker 2: great deal. The fact that he left the number is
- 13:31Speaker 2: kind of fluctuated, but it's definitely within the twenty to
- 13:33Speaker 2: thirty million range. He left that much money on the table.
- 13:36Speaker 2: The Patriots are gonna give him that much more to
- 13:39Speaker 2: stay in Tampa Bay. I mean that just tells you
- 13:41Speaker 2: all you need to know about going back again. I'm
- 13:43Speaker 2: a character guy. Yep, Chris Godwin is the ultimate character
- 13:47Speaker 2: guy guy.
- 13:49Speaker 1: Great Penn steak out there.
- 13:50Speaker 3: You go, man all day.
- 13:51Speaker 2: I'm gonna be cliche and say, you know, if you
- 13:53Speaker 2: had a team full of Chris Godwins, then you'd be
- 13:55Speaker 2: winning Super Bowls every single year.
- 13:57Speaker 3: You know all that trap.
- 13:57Speaker 2: But either way, man, I mean, if you go back
- 14:00Speaker 2: and watch his presser's it was like the most humbling
- 14:03Speaker 2: presser I think I've ever watched in a good way.
- 14:06Speaker 2: It's just his attitude to how he approaches a game,
- 14:08Speaker 2: and this is his game itself. The dude can play inside, outside,
- 14:12Speaker 2: he can beat you short, intermediate, deep, he can beat
- 14:14Speaker 2: you on a bubble screen. He can run through you,
- 14:16Speaker 2: he can run by you. I mean, he's just an
- 14:18Speaker 2: all around like. He doesn't have elite speed, but he's fast.
- 14:22Speaker 2: You know, just everything about his game is just rounded out.
- 14:25Speaker 2: He's a great blocker, He'll do the dirty work.
- 14:27Speaker 3: You know. He's just got to stay healthy.
- 14:29Speaker 2: And last year's injury was super unfortunate, you know, created
- 14:32Speaker 2: a lot of controversy around Todd Bold and his decision
- 14:35Speaker 2: to leave him in. But I mean, dude, Tom Brady
- 14:38Speaker 2: was out there when the Bucks were down thirty eight
- 14:40Speaker 2: zero a few years back to the Saints. He played
- 14:42Speaker 2: ninety eight percent of snaps in that game. These guys
- 14:44Speaker 2: don't come out regardless of what the score is unless
- 14:47Speaker 2: it's just an absolute blowout.
- 14:48Speaker 3: That's you know, but that's another discussion.
- 14:51Speaker 2: Regardless, he's a great he's a great fit for this offense.
- 14:54Speaker 2: He was on pace for career year last year, was
- 14:56Speaker 2: leading the NFL and receptions and I believe I believe
- 14:59Speaker 2: receiving it as well. At the time of the injury,
- 15:01Speaker 2: he was definitely really leading the league in receptions, I
- 15:03Speaker 2: know that much. But either way, he's a great fit
- 15:06Speaker 2: for this offense. And again it's about continuity, you know.
- 15:09Speaker 2: And the Bucks have gone through a really strange phase
- 15:12Speaker 2: over the last few years, and that's where they've lost
- 15:14Speaker 2: an offensive coordinator. You know, after one year they lost
- 15:17Speaker 2: Dave Canalis to the Panthers, two years ago, head coach
- 15:20Speaker 2: lost Liam Cohen this passed offseason and that whole thing
- 15:23Speaker 2: to the Jags as a head coach. So they promoted
- 15:25Speaker 2: Josh Grizzard, who was the team's like kind of third
- 15:28Speaker 2: down passing game coordinator last year.
- 15:30Speaker 3: He had those two roles.
- 15:32Speaker 2: And I mean, they want to keep things going on
- 15:35Speaker 2: that side of the ball, and they should because last year,
- 15:37Speaker 2: which is phenomenal best offensive output and see team history,
- 15:41Speaker 2: you know, outside of points per game and whatnot.
- 15:44Speaker 3: But yeah, so absolutely love the signing.
- 15:46Speaker 2: Shouldn't do anything but pay off big in both the
- 15:48Speaker 2: short had long run all right.
- 15:49Speaker 1: Well, before we get to some NFL draft talk and
- 15:52Speaker 1: where the Bucks may go at the end of April,
- 15:56Speaker 1: I'm wondering you know what. What has been one of
- 15:58Speaker 1: the more under the rate are free agent signings or
- 16:01Speaker 1: deals that the Bucks have made to bring back one
- 16:05Speaker 1: of their veteran players or even bringing somebody into the fold,
- 16:09Speaker 1: perhaps on defense. What's that one under the radar signing
- 16:13Speaker 1: that you really like this offseason thus far?
- 16:16Speaker 2: Yeah, so, I mean it's always so funny, like nothing
- 16:20Speaker 2: really is like under the radar when I look at it.
- 16:22Speaker 3: But you know when I dream now, when I.
- 16:24Speaker 2: Zoom out and putting it, you know, in perspective, definitely,
- 16:26Speaker 2: it would be Ben Brettison, the signing of the offensive guard,
- 16:29Speaker 2: the left guard that I talked about a little while ago.
- 16:32Speaker 3: He got a little bit more than I was expecting
- 16:33Speaker 3: to get it.
- 16:34Speaker 2: He got about seven point three million per years a
- 16:35Speaker 2: three year, twenty two million dollar deal. But I mean
- 16:38Speaker 2: the Bucks paid a little extra to keep that continuity
- 16:41Speaker 2: on the offensive line. And when you go back and
- 16:43Speaker 2: look at the back half of twenty twenty when they
- 16:45Speaker 2: won the Super Bowl and then all throughout twenty twenty
- 16:47Speaker 2: one before they lost the Rams in the playoffs, their
- 16:50Speaker 2: offensive line was out of this world. I mean, I
- 16:53Speaker 2: still remember the comeback against the Jets the same game
- 16:55Speaker 2: where Antonio Brown strip naked or half naked and ran
- 16:58Speaker 2: off the field.
- 16:59Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 16:59Speaker 2: I still remember this day the game winning touchdown pass
- 17:03Speaker 2: to Cyril Grayson tom Brady's pocket. I mean, tom Brady
- 17:07Speaker 2: could have been doing like yoga stretches in the pocket
- 17:09Speaker 2: there is that's how That's how far away the closest
- 17:13Speaker 2: defenders were. I mean, just the space in the room
- 17:17Speaker 2: to run for the running game. That offensive line was
- 17:20Speaker 2: absolutely killer. So to get back to that those days,
- 17:24Speaker 2: they need to rebuild the offensive or keep not rebuild,
- 17:26Speaker 2: they need to keep the offensive line going the way
- 17:28Speaker 2: it is because it was a great unit last year,
- 17:30Speaker 2: and that was their first year together really in terms
- 17:33Speaker 2: of as a whole, because both Ben Brettison and the
- 17:36Speaker 2: center of Graham Barton, it was their first year in
- 17:38Speaker 2: Tampa Bay. So now they've got five guys who have
- 17:41Speaker 2: been with each other for at least two years. If
- 17:42Speaker 2: the Bucks extend Luke Getticky like they should this year,
- 17:45Speaker 2: then they're going to have the line together for at
- 17:48Speaker 2: least two more years.
- 17:50Speaker 3: So it's just building that front, that front five.
- 17:52Speaker 2: Yeah, and man, that's got me excited, you know, dipping
- 17:55Speaker 2: into like my fandom a bit.
- 17:56Speaker 3: Yeah, I love the trenches.
- 17:58Speaker 2: That's what I've grown up on, offense and defense and
- 18:02Speaker 2: just and also the horrible offensive lines that I grew
- 18:07Speaker 2: up watching the Bucks put out there on almost a
- 18:09Speaker 2: yearly basis before twenty twenty. Might have been like two
- 18:12Speaker 2: good years from ninety five to twenty twenty, but yeah,
- 18:16Speaker 2: it was awful.
- 18:17Speaker 3: Dude.
- 18:17Speaker 2: I know exactly how bad or I know all about
- 18:21Speaker 2: bad offensive line play.
- 18:22Speaker 3: I can tell you what a bad offensive line is
- 18:24Speaker 3: all day long.
- 18:24Speaker 2: But anyways, just to watch that and how they're building
- 18:27Speaker 2: it and how they're keeping it and maintaining it and
- 18:29Speaker 2: sustaining it, it's just great to see. And that's easily
- 18:31Speaker 2: my under the radar signing. You know, not a sexy
- 18:33Speaker 2: signing offensive line. It's not going to be a sexy
- 18:36Speaker 2: thing at the end of the day. But absolutely love
- 18:38Speaker 2: that they did it. And Ben's a cool dude too,
- 18:41Speaker 2: well deserved Funt's end.
- 18:42Speaker 1: I think Evan that certain teams are, you know, I
- 18:45Speaker 1: don't want to you know, I don't want to be
- 18:47Speaker 1: presumptuous saying this, but certain teams are really kind of
- 18:49Speaker 1: taking a page out of the Philadelphia Eagles book of
- 18:51Speaker 1: just simply building through the trenches year after year after year,
- 18:55Speaker 1: and how important that has become within the modern day NFL.
- 18:59Speaker 1: And one, you know, as we finish our discussion here,
- 19:02Speaker 1: you know, as we're looking towards this upcoming NFL draft,
- 19:05Speaker 1: like what it's going to look like for the Bucks,
- 19:08Speaker 1: and I have a feeling that continuing to build through
- 19:10Speaker 1: the trenches is definitely going to be a theme for
- 19:13Speaker 1: this team. I mean, we know the team likely wants
- 19:15Speaker 1: to find that that next piece of real talent, perhaps
- 19:18Speaker 1: in the linebacker corps, even a pass rusher as you
- 19:21Speaker 1: were talking about earlier. You know, given the deal they
- 19:23Speaker 1: just gave to Reddick, I mean that could also be
- 19:26Speaker 1: a high priority pick for this Bucks organization in franchise.
- 19:30Speaker 1: And look, they may also want to reinforce their offensive
- 19:32Speaker 1: trenches with an interior offensive lineman as well. But I
- 19:37Speaker 1: think trenches is really going to be important for this
- 19:39Speaker 1: Bucks team coming into this NFL Draft. What are you
- 19:43Speaker 1: hoping to see from this team and this franchise in
- 19:46Speaker 1: the draft?
- 19:47Speaker 3: Yeah, it needs to be basically all defense.
- 19:50Speaker 2: Maybe get an interior guy on Day three with you know,
- 19:54Speaker 2: they don't have a round they don't have a pick
- 19:55Speaker 2: in a round six, They've got to pick it.
- 19:57Speaker 3: They've got to pick it.
- 19:57Speaker 2: Each round for a round six, Okay, so maybe maybe
- 20:00Speaker 2: round five get a guy who might be able to
- 20:02Speaker 2: come in provide some depth, you know, in year one,
- 20:05Speaker 2: because obviously you're not going to count on that from
- 20:07Speaker 2: a seventh round. But either way, it needs to be
- 20:10Speaker 2: pretty much all defense man and the first round pick
- 20:14Speaker 2: is going to be really interesting.
- 20:15Speaker 3: We've gotten some really credible.
- 20:17Speaker 2: Info that if Jihad Campbell is there at nineteen, that
- 20:20Speaker 2: the Bucks are basically going to teleport through their computer
- 20:23Speaker 2: screens to the podium and you know, announced the picks themselves.
- 20:26Speaker 2: And I mean if you go through and read I
- 20:28Speaker 2: think it was Matt Miller's latest article you put it
- 20:31Speaker 2: out and somebody over at ESPN. But regardless, they said
- 20:34Speaker 2: they think Gihid Campbell's floor is night or yeah, floor
- 20:38Speaker 2: is nineteen to the Bucks. There's a lot of smoke there, man,
- 20:43Speaker 2: so him, I could see Donovan Azeraku, I Gulve, the
- 20:47Speaker 2: you know Boston college kid. I can see him going,
- 20:49Speaker 2: which would be you know, outside linebacker, pass rusher, or
- 20:53Speaker 2: they could also go corner.
- 20:54Speaker 3: Malki Starks is a really interesting name. They really like
- 20:57Speaker 3: him a lot.
- 20:58Speaker 2: They see him as both a safety and an outside guy,
- 21:01Speaker 2: which makes sense considering his versatility in college. And then
- 21:04Speaker 2: plus Darien Porter, maybe if he continues to build his
- 21:06Speaker 2: draft stock up, maybe they trade back. Regardless, it's going
- 21:09Speaker 2: to be one of those three positions. I personally would
- 21:12Speaker 2: like to see them take another pass Rusher. I would
- 21:14Speaker 2: love to take them to take Azaraku. I hope I'm saying,
- 21:17Speaker 2: isn't it I know I'm getting the last half of
- 21:19Speaker 2: his name right or right? I think I'm getting the
- 21:21Speaker 2: first name wrong either way, or the first half of
- 21:24Speaker 2: it is a bit last name. But regardless, I would
- 21:26Speaker 2: like to see them take him at nineteen or Jihad
- 21:30Speaker 2: if he's there, because what Jihad would do is he
- 21:32Speaker 2: could come in on sub packages and you know, just
- 21:35Speaker 2: use his all around versatility, whether it's off the edge,
- 21:38Speaker 2: off the ball, whatever it might be. And then you know,
- 21:41Speaker 2: Lavonte David is a year to year prospect at this
- 21:43Speaker 2: point in terms of if he's going to retire, So
- 21:45Speaker 2: if Levante decides to step away next year, or if
- 21:48Speaker 2: Sir Bossier Dennis isn't really fully recovered from the shoulder
- 21:52Speaker 2: injury from last year, or if he just doesn't take
- 21:54Speaker 2: that step forward like people are hoping to the Jihad
- 21:57Speaker 2: is a perfect you know solution step right there. So
- 22:01Speaker 2: it'll be interesting to see. I think they definitely go though,
- 22:03Speaker 2: somewhere in the front seven. I think corner will be
- 22:05Speaker 2: a day or be a round two pick. But yeah, man,
- 22:08Speaker 2: it's definitely gonna be upfront in the front seven on
- 22:10Speaker 2: defense for sure. I think that's what they're gonna do.
- 22:12Speaker 2: And that's also what I want them to do.
- 22:14Speaker 1: All right, good, good deal.
- 22:16Speaker 3: Man.
- 22:16Speaker 1: It's gonna be interesting to see what this Bucks team does,
- 22:19Speaker 1: not only during the draft, but at other points during
- 22:21Speaker 1: this offseason as well. Again, folks, Evan Winter from a
- 22:25Speaker 1: to za sports dot com check out their content. Fantastic
- 22:28Speaker 1: content all the time. And Buddy, it was great talking
- 22:30Speaker 1: to you. Thanks so much for taking the time as always,
- 22:33Speaker 1: and let's talk again down the road, my friend.
- 22:35Speaker 3: Yes, sir, one hundred percent, you got it.
- 22:37Speaker 1: This Buccaneers offense is certainly going to be interesting just
- 22:41Speaker 1: in terms of what type of productivity they're gonna be
- 22:44Speaker 1: able to put together during the twenty twenty five twenty
- 22:47Speaker 1: twenty six season. Again, like we mentioned during our discussion,
- 22:50Speaker 1: all eleven starters are going to be coming back. Baker Mayfield,
- 22:54Speaker 1: definitely doing a good job for this offense under center.
- 22:58Speaker 1: They've got a great running game, very good passing game
- 23:01Speaker 1: as well. It's gonna be interesting to see where this
- 23:04Speaker 1: team goes. And then from the defensive standpoint, can they
- 23:07Speaker 1: put some other pieces into play where they can perhaps
- 23:11Speaker 1: take those forty six sacks from last season increase them.
- 23:16Speaker 1: They're gonna be, I think a force in the NFC
- 23:19Speaker 1: for sure. So that's gonna do it for us here
