Transcript
- 0:01Hey there guys, I am here with Dylan again for another episode
- 0:05of Turn Back the Clock. Dylan, early morning, Hawaii.
- 0:09How's it going? Epic got my coffee ready to
- 0:13rock'n'roll. Love hanging out with you, Adam.
- 0:17So let's yeah, let's get jamming.
- 0:20Yeah, we got a couple fun things to talk about today.
- 0:22The first thing's not fun to talk about, but we did want to
- 0:25mention it. Reverend Steve, fellow YouTube,
- 0:30you know, I about a year ago, Dylan, I think it was his maybe
- 0:35first or second video that he ever put out.
- 0:38And unfortunately, terribly, he passed away recently, a few days
- 0:43ago, everyone found out. But he about a year ago, I think
- 0:47it was like I said, first or second video and he tagged, I
- 0:51think of you and me in one of his first videos.
- 0:54And it was about turn back the clock cards and how he collected
- 0:58those and how he before he ever started a channel, used to
- 1:01listen to our show. And you know, he always left
- 1:05comments and you could just tell.
- 1:07I could tell from his first video I ever saw, he was just a
- 1:10great guy, nice guy, great guy. So we wanted to mention that.
- 1:15And in the in the link to, to the podcast here in the video,
- 1:19there is a GoFundMe page for his, for his family.
- 1:23He had four kids, wife. So if you guys didn't know Rev
- 1:29Steve, his channel still up. I've been re watching his
- 1:33videos. But anyway, I just, I wanted to
- 1:35mention that and anything you wanted to say.
- 1:38Yeah, I'm, I'm glad, you know, glad you mentioned this
- 1:42beforehand too, 'cause I feel like it's like one of those
- 1:45things. I did a video yesterday.
- 1:47I'm going to post it after this and I bring it up and just my
- 1:51thoughts to go along with like, when is it OK to to like talk
- 1:55about cards again? And you know, he was a good
- 1:58friend. Like I didn't have a text phone
- 2:01number of his, but for the last year I was going back and forth
- 2:05with him on chats and you feel very close to these guys.
- 2:09And he was one of the very most kindest guys ever.
- 2:13Like when he spoke, you could just sense the kindness from
- 2:16him. He's one of those people.
- 2:17He's very soft spoken and very, but still direct like he had.
- 2:21He just had a passion to him. So yeah, I'm glad we mentioned
- 2:24that. And then yeah, click the link
- 2:26below if you feel drawn to help his family out with the
- 2:31GoFundMe. So rest in peace my friend.
- 2:34Rest in peace, Steve. All right, so we are going to
- 2:38Steve love cards and we do too. So we're going to, you know,
- 2:41talk cards for a little bit here.
- 2:44OK, so on our last episode, I, if you guys caught it, I sold a
- 2:49Mickey Mantle Ken Griffey junior 1994 dual card.
- 2:53And if you guys know about that card, there's three versions of
- 2:56it. There's the double auto.
- 2:58So Griffey and Mantle pack pulled both signed.
- 3:02I think, I think it was 500 of those.
- 3:04And then there's 500 of just Griffey signing with no mantle
- 3:08signature. And then 500 are like the one I
- 3:10sold which had Mantle only, no Griffey signature.
- 3:13And again, that's how they came out of the packs.
- 3:15You know, that's, that's just how they came out Now, when I
- 3:19was talking to you last episode about how I sold my card, I
- 3:24said, I wonder if whoever bought it is, is, you know, a repacker
- 3:29or something like that that's going to put it in a chase
- 3:31product or who knows? And or maybe someone that might
- 3:36want to take this, crack it out and then get Griffey to sign it
- 3:40after the fact, even though it was meant to be a packed pulled
- 3:42auto card. And interestingly enough, a
- 3:46comment was left on Spotify on our last episode.
- 3:50Again, I didn't investigate if it was true or anything, but
- 3:53someone left a comment saying I know the person who bought your
- 3:57card and they do intend on cracking it out and having
- 4:00Griffey sign it. So what do you let's talk about
- 4:04that a little bit. What do you think about is that?
- 4:07Is that right? Is that a legit thing to do?
- 4:11Should should you be able to do that on a pack pull, dual auto
- 4:14or there's only one of them signed?
- 4:16What do you think on that? I mean, OK, so I made it pretty
- 4:20clear last time when he talked about that if if it's for him
- 4:25and he wants it for his collection and he's never ever
- 4:28going to sell it again. Or at least when he sells it, he
- 4:30goes about saying that this was not pack pulled like this.
- 4:34It was pack pulled with the mantle autograph.
- 4:37If if he's going to go get it autographed, I mean, I would
- 4:40tell it to to his face. If you are my friend and you're
- 4:43going to go get this card that had that could have had two
- 4:46autographs on it, you go and pay Ken Griffey Junior to get this
- 4:50autograph and then you sell it as a dual pack pulled autograph.
- 4:55That is wrong straight up across the board.
- 4:58To me, that is absolutely wrong. That is disguising a card that
- 5:04is not the way it came out of the pack and to if you're going
- 5:10to sell it as that. Now, I'm not accusing him of
- 5:13doing this because I don't know his intentions.
- 5:15But if you're going to go do that and then you sell it as
- 5:19it's a dual autograph because I don't know that card that well
- 5:23to know if there's a way to tell the dual pack pulled from the
- 5:27single pack pulled and you brought that up last time to me.
- 5:30It's I mean, I it's gross, it's a gross thought.
- 5:35It's not how I want. It isn't right.
- 5:39It is completely wrong in my opinion.
- 5:42It's one thing to go it, it's it brings up the whole autograph
- 5:45thing and why to me, paying someone to autograph your card
- 5:48and then all the sudden it's worth X more.
- 5:51It just doesn't work in my brain.
- 5:54To me, if you get that card autographed by Ken Griffey
- 5:57Junior, it ruins the card. I no longer would be interested
- 6:01in that card whatsoever because it was packed, pulled the way it
- 6:05was supposed to come with one autograph.
- 6:08You know, if you pulled the duel, then that's that's insane.
- 6:10That was supposed to come the way, but that card was
- 6:13originally packed, pulled from the manufacturer with one mental
- 6:16autograph, 500 of them. To me, that's how it came.
- 6:20The second somebody else puts an autograph on that card, in my
- 6:25opinion, it completely downgrades the card.
- 6:27I wouldn't touch that thing with 100 foot pole that that's my
- 6:32opinion on it. I don't, I just don't see the
- 6:36logic behind it. The only logic that you could
- 6:38have doing that is for personal reasons and you just want to
- 6:42have it autographed by Karen Griffey Junior and Mickey
- 6:45Mantle. And you're not going to spend
- 6:46$1,000,000 to get the Duel. And it's your personal thing and
- 6:49you, you know you're not going to sell it as that.
- 6:53And when you sell it, you mention that, then I'm totally
- 6:56cool with that. But if you do go out and try and
- 6:59you do that just for financial gain, it it's disgusting in my
- 7:03opinion. Well, here's the thing, the
- 7:06those Mantle Griffey cards do have unique serial numbers on
- 7:09the back now. OK, good.
- 7:11Here's the problem because it's a Beckett graded card and even
- 7:14PSA until I think the last three years PSAI mean I don't think
- 7:20they took pictures of all the cards for their on their website
- 7:23like they do now. And I still don't know if PSA
- 7:26keeps track of see in a in a perfect world or even just a
- 7:29decent world for for grading. The grading company should keep
- 7:34track of that right? Like if someone grades a mantle
- 7:37autographed with no Griffey autographed card with any
- 7:40grading company, there should be a record at that company that if
- 7:43if anyone ever tried to crack that out and send it back in,
- 7:45Nope, that's now it has a Griffey signature on it.
- 7:48No, no, no, it didn't come out of the pack that way.
- 7:50So we we're not going to grade that, you know, because that's
- 7:53really card altering in a way for sure.
- 7:56So it that was meant to be A and if and especially if they're
- 7:59going to label it as a pack pull dual auto.
- 8:03That's the main thing, the labeling, the label, if you if
- 8:06if they relist it or they put on the slab.
- 8:08This was a Mickey Mantle pack pulled autograph Kangarvey
- 8:12Junior sign this after the fact. I'm totally cool with that.
- 8:16That's fantastic. And and to me, I would never
- 8:19want that card because of that reason.
- 8:21And I don't think the value should go up because of it.
- 8:25I in fact, I would completely opposite it should go down.
- 8:28But yeah. OK.
- 8:31So anyway, just wanted to follow up on that because it is
- 8:34interesting that that card has a just the way it was distributed
- 8:38where like some of them were dual auto and some weren't.
- 8:40It does create that arbitrage opportunity for, especially now
- 8:44these days where cards are worth so much money that, yeah, you
- 8:47will see people where if you can pass that as a double auto, all
- 8:50of a sudden it's a $50,000 card with both autographs on it.
- 8:54So. But I think the grading
- 8:57companies got to do a better job of keeping track of that.
- 8:59You know, that's part of authentication and what we need
- 9:02them for more so than the number on the label.
- 9:05They need to do a better job of, I mean, Beckett I I still don't
- 9:08think Beckett takes pictures of the cards when you grade them.
- 9:11Yeah. I think they just started now
- 9:13with the yeah, I think so, yeah. It's insane.
- 9:17Before you move on to that. So the upper deck heroes
- 9:20autographs that were prior to that 1991 even 19901990 yeah,
- 9:271990, the first pack pulled autograph ever.
- 9:29Yeah, and, and well, the score is a little different, but it'll
- 9:34it at least the upper deck ones, they have a different hologram
- 9:38on the back. So the, the companies that are
- 9:41slabbing them don't do a great job of designating if it was
- 9:44pack pulled or not. And I've seen autographs of the
- 9:47same card, you know, 'cause these were a dollar cards,
- 9:51unless they have that hologram showing that they're a pack
- 9:54pulled. So maybe like you said, those
- 9:56serial numbers on the back. But like you said, I mean,
- 9:59there's guys that try and sell these upper deck heroes
- 10:02autographs as the pack pulled ones because they got it signed
- 10:05after. And it's just like people are
- 10:07getting, you know, people get hosed by it.
- 10:09So you really just got to be aware of what you're buying
- 10:12comes down to that. And I did want to show this
- 10:14because you reference it on the last episode, but this was even
- 10:17before the 94 Griffey mantle pack pulled autos.
- 10:20They had these in 91 out of score.
- 10:23These were a set of seven. And I really like this one
- 10:26going, going gone out of the mantle autograph pack pulled
- 10:30from 1991. And these do also have a serial
- 10:34number on them. So this is #312 and again, it
- 10:37says four of seven because there were seven different, you know,
- 10:40one of them says like Triple Crown on it, another, you know,
- 10:42different, different cards within that.
- 10:44So for me, I thought this for my own collection, I wanted to hold
- 10:49this one long term. And, and the Griffey Mantle one
- 10:52especially because it went up in price so much.
- 10:53And I don't think this one has, I, I would rather have this pack
- 10:57pulled auto of mantle than the Griffey Griffey mantle one that
- 11:00I had. So I'm holding this and the
- 11:03other one I was able to, to make some money on.
- 11:06So I can, you know, fund more cards in the future.
- 11:09Dude, I'm with you 100%. And that was before three years
- 11:13prior. That's the first Mickey Mantle
- 11:15pack full autograph. Or at least, yeah, that's the
- 11:18first one, because the second one would be score franchise 92
- 11:22or whatever. So to me, that holds way more
- 11:25value in my brain. I think the whole Griffey train
- 11:28that just kind of left the track.
- 11:29So anything with a with Griffey's face on it is just
- 11:32like it's just gotten out of control.
- 11:36And just one last point on the autograph thing for me, again,
- 11:41everyone has different values on autographs as far as like what
- 11:45they think is, you know, the the most collectible or the most
- 11:49whatever I can't see anymore, but.
- 11:52Can you? OK, that's right.
- 11:55Oh, there he is. I for me, the way I prioritize
- 11:59it as far as like what I want to collect, pack pulled autos is at
- 12:03the top for me, you know, so when it comes to autograph cards
- 12:06packed pulled for me, that's like I value the most of that.
- 12:11I know that they might not be worth the most money on the open
- 12:13market and stuff. But for what I value in a
- 12:16collection is I really like the just the idea of it being packed
- 12:20pulled. I'm not a TTM guy.
- 12:22I think it's cool, but I just, it's not what I do.
- 12:26And then below that is a little below that for sure is for me is
- 12:31I like the old, you know, like the autographs that were done in
- 12:34the past as far as like, you know, maybe Mickey Mantle
- 12:36autographed the card in 1989, you know, before cards are worth
- 12:41a ton of money or any of that stuff or like Jackie Robinson
- 12:45autographs on vintage cards, so forth.
- 12:48Those those I think are really cool too.
- 12:51But but well, below all that for me is like the yeah, like the
- 12:57the Sandy Koufax autograph that he signed yesterday on whatever
- 13:01or just whatever it might be, you know, stuff like that.
- 13:05I things that are autographed now, I'm totally with you.
- 13:07And when you were talking about that, it was like, yeah,
- 13:09definitely. Like that's how I've always kind
- 13:11of felt too. So that's kind of the hierarchy.
- 13:14Like in just one more example, as you know, I collect Brady
- 13:18cards, Tom Brady cards, and I love his rookie cards.
- 13:21This is a pickup that I had had not shown.
- 13:23So this is his first ever rookie card.
- 13:26This is the two 2000 Pacific rookie card.
- 13:30Of all his cards, this was the one that released the first in
- 13:33the year 2000. So there's actually a record of
- 13:36that. And Mike Kramer of Pacific who
- 13:38made this card, documented that in his book.
- 13:41So that's how I really knew about it.
- 13:43Well, anyway, this was a base card that there was a lot of,
- 13:46but there were 200 of them that Brady autograph out of the
- 13:51packs. This was a pack pulled
- 13:52autograph. So this is Tom Brady's very
- 13:54first pack pulled autograph ever.
- 13:58Wow. And you know, dude, it's again,
- 14:00it's not the best card. The autograph is it's a nice
- 14:02autograph, but it doesn't really pop off the card or anything.
- 14:05But just from a collectability perspective, it doesn't.
- 14:09I don't even think it says it's not serial numbered, but Mike
- 14:13Cramer basically said he only made 2000 or excuse me, 200 of
- 14:17these and it's and it has authentic autograph on it.
- 14:21So, so like, for example, there's a lot of the base cards
- 14:24of this card that have a Brady autograph on it, right?
- 14:26That he signed like last year or yesterday, 25 years later.
- 14:31But for me, it's not even in the same ballpark like this this
- 14:34that was autographed in the year 2000 pack pulled.
- 14:38It's not even the same stratosphere as a as a base card
- 14:41of this that Brady autographed a year ago or whatever.
- 14:45That's just the way I look at it.
- 14:46Dude I'm a 150,000% with you on that.
- 14:51I get getting base cards autographed.
- 14:54That's what base cards afford. Cheap base cards you get them
- 14:58autographed. But to me, the value shouldn't
- 15:00be even remotely close to a pack pulled version.
- 15:06And I'm and I also think the first of those, the first cards
- 15:10autographed by those players should be exponentially first
- 15:14pack pulled autograph of each player should be exponentially
- 15:17more valuable. Like I see like in like tops
- 15:20gilded. I'm basically every set.
- 15:23They have all these new autographs every single time.
- 15:27I don't prescribed to the fact that if you're going to buy an
- 15:31autograph of say I don't know who's alive now but name you
- 15:37know Pedro Martinez, OK he's retired and you can get his
- 15:42cards autographed and pack pulled autograph form today.
- 15:47To me those are never going to go up in value.
- 15:50They're not worth a lick. They're worth you have it.
- 15:53He signed it. It's cool.
- 15:54It was pack pulled, but the ones that I would want are the first
- 15:58ones that he signed the very first ones that were packed fold
- 16:02from from after his rookie year or a couple years after after
- 16:07that. That's it.
- 16:08They're all the exact same to me across the board.
- 16:11Like there's just like I think I trade.
- 16:13I traded you for one years ago yeah, and I and I have this
- 16:18Ernie Banks that I traded you for that.
- 16:21I just have this on my desk and I just took it off my walls and
- 16:24I put it somewhere and I traded you a Pedro Martinez that I
- 16:28pulled from a pack an autograph for this card.
- 16:31And to me that Pedro it, there's no value there as far as like
- 16:36it's not going to be worth more in the future.
- 16:38You know, I don't think it should be worth more in the
- 16:40future. It's like he's signing, he's
- 16:41signed millions of. Them he's going to be signing,
- 16:44you know, as long as he's still around for years and years and
- 16:47years to come at card shows and everything.
- 16:49And by the way, I never would have done that trade unless it
- 16:51was you. OK, I did that trade because
- 16:53that's a card Dylan pack pull. Then it was cool, but I I love
- 16:56that card, but little man, just seeing that banks card again,
- 16:59the color pop off that baby. Do you?
- 17:01It was with you. That's why I did.
- 17:03That's like the highest eye appeal top stand up I swear I've
- 17:06ever seen. It's insane.
- 17:08Yeah, yeah. No, you're right with that.
- 17:11And, and one more point to I have a lot of thoughts on these
- 17:14autograph things keep going is you mention it like for example,
- 17:19one of my real big pickups in the last whatever year or so is
- 17:23the 67 Sandy Koufax retro auto card where there's less, I think
- 17:29there's less of less than 100 ever graded total of that card.
- 17:34And there are a lot of guys that are send, I've seen it on social
- 17:38media where people are sending that card to Sandy Koufax, an
- 17:41ultra rare card to get autographed.
- 17:44And I mean, again, to each their own with their collection, but I
- 17:48have 0 interest in ever sending ever get actually, I have a
- 17:50negative interest in getting that card autographed that
- 17:53that's a rare card on its own. And so I agree with like, you
- 17:58know, 87 Bo Jackson or whatever, you know, a mass produced card.
- 18:03I get it. You know, you're at a card show,
- 18:04you want them to sign that card. I mean that, that, that makes a
- 18:07lot of sense to me. But a rare card I saw there was
- 18:10APMG that was numbered to like 90 or something like that, a red
- 18:14PMG John Elway card that someone got autographed at a card show
- 18:18and they, they filmed Elway signing it and everything.
- 18:21And again, if that's great for your own collection, but for me,
- 18:24I, I don't have any interest in in having rare cards
- 18:28autographed. You know, it's I feel like for
- 18:30me that would only, I'd only want like mass produced cards or
- 18:34packed, pulled something like that.
- 18:35Can you imagine taking that retarado, Sandy Kofax and having
- 18:42ink from today, a ball, a sharpie placed on that card.
- 18:49I even if it's Sandy Kofax sitting in front of it doing it,
- 18:53I would feel sick to my stomach. I'd be like that just ruin that
- 18:57card. That ink is now soaked into that
- 18:59card. It looks like garbage in my
- 19:02opinion after I leave that card alone and and in my thoughts are
- 19:08in the future. I mean, I don't see a place
- 19:10where those are worth a fortune just because the stupid pop
- 19:14report. Everybody's like obsessed with
- 19:16the pop report. Is the pop report, you know,
- 19:20kind of taking some common sense here and think about like what
- 19:23you're doing to some of these cards.
- 19:26The pop isn't everything. And I think the future, you
- 19:28know, some of us really don't like those cards at all.
- 19:32And it completely takes me out of the market of any returado
- 19:35that's signed or anything like that.
- 19:37I don't like it. But like you say, the Bo Jackson
- 19:3987 tops, you know, you pay Bo Jackson, what, 100 bucks?
- 19:42You get it autographed and now it's worth $125.00.
- 19:47That makes perfect sense to me. That makes sense, but it
- 19:49absolutely shouldn't be worth $500.
- 19:51You just paid some guy to make a card worth more.
- 19:54You could make the argument that you're paying PSA to make your
- 19:58card worth more, but you're not. I always counteract that with
- 20:01you're not paying PSA to make your card with more.
- 20:04You're paying PSA to give the opinion on their standards and
- 20:09put a number on there. And the market afterward tells
- 20:12you what that card's worth, if that card is worth more or not.
- 20:16Where the the autographing it just it just dismembers the card
- 20:21all together on some of these things.
- 20:24So I know that there's other guys out there that completely
- 20:27disagree. And they, they, they, they
- 20:31literally, they, they make money doing that.
- 20:33And that it's just, it's just rubs me the wrong way.
- 20:37And you're entitled to do whatever you want in your cards.
- 20:39I just like that we can talk about this because it's, it's
- 20:43just opinions about cards and, and I don't want to, you know,
- 20:46Tony made a comment on that last video and I, you know, we didn't
- 20:49go in detail on the autograph thing.
- 20:51So I made a personal video and went a little deeper on it and
- 20:54my thoughts. I'm not I dude, I love the old
- 20:57school autograph ballpoint pens and.
- 21:00Even. Even some of the Sharpies, you
- 21:02know, they're, they're OK. You know, I'm not like I have a
- 21:05couple. Of that.
- 21:06The thin sharpies that look pretty good, but they're not on
- 21:10rare cards and those rare cards and just don't touch them.
- 21:15Just let them be how they were. Yeah, like if your goal is cuz
- 21:21like you said, some people their just their primary goal with
- 21:25that is to like, all right, I'm gonna get this person to sign it
- 21:27and then I'm gonna sell it for five times the price.
- 21:30Is there a big difference between we all are against card
- 21:34trimming, right? So if you, if we're all trying
- 21:36to separate, if you're trying to separate a card, like, hey,
- 21:38there's a lot of these, but I want to make my card more
- 21:41valuable. So I'm going to, you know,
- 21:43there's not many centered. So I'm going to trim this card
- 21:46to make it centered. I'm going to alter this card.
- 21:48Everyone's against that, right? But what is there a big
- 21:50difference between saying like, hey, there's a ton of these
- 21:52cards, but there's not many autographs, so I'm going to go
- 21:56at a card show or whatever, get this card autographed and it's
- 21:58it's worth more money. Again, trimming is much worse.
- 22:01But like, in a way, you know, you're kind of manufacturing the
- 22:04value, right? A. 100 percent, 100%.
- 22:07To it, yeah. Yeah, dude, I'm so with you on
- 22:10that. It just, it, it bothers me.
- 22:13I don't know why, it just bothers me.
- 22:16I guess we'd rather have like tops make the value, right?
- 22:19Like if tops has it autographed and then puts it in a pack and
- 22:22then it's it's just the coolness factor for me.
- 22:25Like I had last thing is I, I had a 81 Larry Bird, 81 tops
- 22:30Larry Bird, his second year card.
- 22:32I had an autographed, you know, on card autographed version of
- 22:35that and it was worth a bunch of money.
- 22:38And you know, I saw one, I saw a video on Facebook of literally
- 22:42Larry Bird. He does all these private
- 22:43signings. He signs a lot 1 after another
- 22:46of that same card. Just boom boom, boom with a dead
- 22:49lifeless look on his face. 0 interest in it does not care.
- 22:52It's like a it's like a, it's like a mill.
- 22:54He's just like milling out cards.
- 22:56And this was like a year or two ago.
- 22:58And then I immediately said I'm selling my card And you know
- 23:01what I did with that money? I sold that card and for just
- 23:03about the same amount of money, I bought a 2003 exquisite Larry
- 23:07Bird card pack pulled autograph that again, for me, that's just
- 23:12if they're about the same value. But for me, it's just like, it
- 23:15means so much more that it came out of a pack and I don't know,
- 23:18it's just the story of it rather than like, you know, it wasn't
- 23:21me getting at A at a game getting bird to sign and it was
- 23:24someone else so. Talk about true rarity.
- 23:28Everybody's like manufacturer is not true rarity.
- 23:31It absolutely is true rarity. And those pack pulled autographs
- 23:35are true rarity. They're not me going after and
- 23:38paying some guy to put some ink on the card before we finish.
- 23:43How about those people who are taking stickers off of some
- 23:46cards and putting them on other cards?
- 23:49And I don't mean for your own collection.
- 23:51And it's cool, like I don't care about that.
- 23:53But I'm talking about like getting a Michael Jordan rookie
- 23:56card, peeling off a sticker from some sticker he signed in and
- 24:00putting it on a Michael Jordan rookie card or something.
- 24:03I just go, it's just, it's fringe, it's cringe worthy.
- 24:07It's just no, what is this hobby?
- 24:11You know what's happening? I like money, like the rest of
- 24:14the people, but I don't want to manipulate myself into a better
- 24:17card. I want the card to just speak
- 24:20for itself, you know? Right.
- 24:23So anyway, that's we got, I think we got at least another 5
- 24:27minutes. Dylan, is there any other topics
- 24:29you want to jump into before we go?
- 24:32Anything on your mind? Yeah, I'll just piss people off
- 24:35with another topic, but that's kind.
- 24:37Of what we do, you know, we make people upset and then that's
- 24:39fine. Then we come back and we revisit
- 24:41it. That's all right.
- 24:41For sure. Well, the autograph thing, like
- 24:43before we let's put a bow on it. I'm I'm into TTMS, I'm into you
- 24:50going and getting an autograph. I'm into that stuff.
- 24:52It's fantastic if you want the experience, you want the guy to
- 24:56be in front of it. But I just want to clarify that
- 24:59I'm not anti having cards autographed.
- 25:01There's just some cards that to me should not be touched.
- 25:06OK, I have a few other things. You know, I don't normally get
- 25:15involved in this stuff, but this one kind of you know the what
- 25:21not thing going on and the whole lawsuit or whatever.
- 25:24I'm not a legalese guy. I don't really give a crap what
- 25:27they call it. I'm really under the impression
- 25:32of you can call me whatever you want to call me.
- 25:36I don't have sympathy for adult humans blowing their money on
- 25:42cards and then suing. I don't care about what not.
- 25:46They do many things shady and that stuff should be fixed and
- 25:49I'm happy they're trying to go after and fix things.
- 25:52But what I see is guys who should know better blowing their
- 25:57money and then trying to get there, trying to recoup the
- 26:00money that they blew. Now if there was shady stuff
- 26:04going on and there was back door and that's a different topic.
- 26:08But as far as the gambling thing, it's like penny stocks.
- 26:11If you got a friend into penny stocks, they get all into it
- 26:14and, and some guys might make money in it.
- 26:16Then then a lots of people just lose money.
- 26:19They can't just go and and sue someone and recoup their losses
- 26:23because they did some dumb things.
- 26:26I'm, I'm, I don't have a major issue with gambling.
- 26:30So I'm coming from that spectrum and I know there's people who
- 26:33have issues with it, you know, but in the end, we are adults
- 26:38and I always just, I'm not a policeman and I don't want, I
- 26:42don't think we need to be in even with if they put
- 26:45regulations on this and they have that whole like opt out
- 26:49button, like so you block yourself, is that going to stop
- 26:54anyone? You can just go somewhere else
- 26:56and do it. You can just go buy these boxes
- 26:58in the flesh. So if you have an issue like
- 27:02I'll give an example, I no longer have eBay on my phone and
- 27:06fanatics on my phone. I deleted the apps off my phone.
- 27:10They are no longer there. I did it this week.
- 27:12Why? Because I found myself sitting
- 27:14around the house and then I would like, you know, have 5
- 27:18minutes of free time and I'd be like, oh, I don't want to buy
- 27:21cards right now. So I only way for me to stop
- 27:24doing that is delete them off my phone.
- 27:26So I'm taking my this responsibility to have for
- 27:30myself and dealing with it. I'm not going and suing eBay
- 27:35because they're making me buy baseball cards or suing fanatics
- 27:40because they're making me spend money on cards.
- 27:42You could have an you have. It's not just like I I don't
- 27:47want to take away from like shady Breakers.
- 27:49They should be shut down shady people.
- 27:52And if it that is going to accomplish that, then fantastic.
- 27:55But I just don't have I, I don't know, like the whole gambling
- 28:01things like man, just stop and if you can't then go get help.
- 28:06But suing people and telling people it's it's their fault
- 28:11because you're blowing money, That's a whole nother topic that
- 28:15to me it's like, man, where's the responsibility in our own
- 28:19our own self? So I'm kind of people probably
- 28:22don't like that attitude. I know there's guys that have
- 28:25really have problems, but I grew up in a family that have full
- 28:29blown horse racing in their blood and I grew up gambling my
- 28:33entire life. And I have had friends get deep
- 28:36in deep trouble with it. But in the end they figured out
- 28:40how to stop doing it. And if you don't, then you're
- 28:44just going to find another place to gamble.
- 28:46So you stop this, you put the button in there, they're just
- 28:48going to find another place to gamble it.
- 28:51It needs to be some personal response responsibility and
- 28:55whatnot. Not defending Whatnot, but I
- 28:59have a great friend on there who I buy cards for my Whatnot
- 29:03Robert Prestige collectible. So whatnot.
- 29:05It's not filled with all horrible humans.
- 29:08It's filled with some, just like everywhere and every place.
- 29:12But there are some good things about whatnot.
- 29:15And there's some people who do it responsibly and enjoy their
- 29:17time on there and sell properly. So without throwing the entire
- 29:22system under the bus, everybody under the bus, Yeah.
- 29:28Any, any thoughts on that? You know people are already
- 29:30pissed at me, but that's my true thoughts.
- 29:34Yeah, I mean, what like so when you if you go on like a FanDuel
- 29:37or a or a DraftKings and you bet on sports, there are thing, at
- 29:42least in certain states, you know, there are some features on
- 29:44on the apps that, you know, allow you to protect yourself
- 29:48against yourself where like you can only lose a certain amount
- 29:50of money in a given day limits. You know, there's a there's a
- 29:55line for 1800 gambler gambling anonymous.
- 29:58So there are some features that at least they they try to
- 30:03protect the degenerates from themselves.
- 30:07I agree. I hear you on personal
- 30:10responsibility. You need you need to have that.
- 30:13And it feels, you know, like it's missing a piece.
- 30:17If if if it's like the lawsuit is just to get these
- 30:19millionaires back their money that they lost.
- 30:23I think it should be OK. If you want to try to do that,
- 30:25that's one thing. But what about getting what not?
- 30:28What about a lawsuit? Getting what not to have some of
- 30:31these things that like the gambling apps have like as far
- 30:35as once you lose $1000 or whatever the limit is, you get
- 30:40shut off for the day. I mean, again, if we're gonna do
- 30:43it for what not, they should do it for Facebook and Instagram
- 30:47and TikTok and all people are addicted to that too.
- 30:50And, and I could argue that's worse for people than losing
- 30:53money is literally losing your brain to social media.
- 30:57So everything's addicting. Literally.
- 30:59It's a world full of addictions. And it's a, it's a, it's sad,
- 31:02it's a, it's a very different place than when you and I grew
- 31:05up. Let's just put it that way.
- 31:07But even when we grew up, there was plenty of people addicted to
- 31:09gambling. There was this.
- 31:10Oh yeah, but it's harder. It's harder to do.
- 31:13Yeah, it's, it's at our fingertips now and so it makes
- 31:17it even easier. And I don't want to take away
- 31:19from that. I don't want I know we I have a
- 31:22couple friends who've made videos complete opposite of our
- 31:24opinion. Some great friends, one in
- 31:27particular I'm thinking of and I just, I have, I man, the
- 31:32personal responsibility thing, it just always seems to go out
- 31:35the window. And I don't think this lawsuit's
- 31:37gonna do absolutely anything. So what if if there's a button
- 31:40that says like Get Me Out, like what is that gonna do?
- 31:45I don't know. I don't get it.
- 31:47I don't either. And I'll be honest, I'm like the
- 31:49last person who should be commenting on like legal talk.
- 31:52I think we've talked to before, like what's a type of sports
- 31:55card video that you see that literally your eyes glaze over?
- 31:58And by the way, I thought I'm sports card clubhouse here, Mike
- 32:01junk wax hero and Paul Lesko. That was as good as it possibly
- 32:05could be for that type of video. But for me, like when, when,
- 32:08when I even on other channels and anytime I start hearing him
- 32:11talk about legal stuff, literally in my eyes glaze over.
- 32:14Like I, I, I'm like, Nah, man, that's not for me.
- 32:17I, I don't know arbitration and and all these words that are
- 32:20way. I'm not smart enough to
- 32:22understand any of that stuff. It it's I don't I'm not bored
- 32:25enough to even care about that stuff is really good.
- 32:28It comes down to you. That ain't, that isn't my cup of
- 32:30tea, but I, I did want to just bring it up because man, it's
- 32:35kind of just, it just feels like a, a money grab more than
- 32:40anything to help these guys out to get their money back because
- 32:44they were they, they blew it. I mean, dude, we can blow it
- 32:48just as much buying cards on eBay.
- 32:51You can get addicted to buying cards on eBay and buying cards
- 32:54at a show just as easily. We all have credit cards.
- 32:57They are accepted everywhere. So just 'cause you're not
- 33:00addicted to what not and buying these re breaks.
- 33:04I mean, to me, the regulation should be about kids and not
- 33:08allowing them to be involved in what not whatsoever.
- 33:11They shouldn't be allowed on there.
- 33:12There's rules like that that should be in place, rules about
- 33:15protecting adults and gambling. They just, they seem, they seem
- 33:21silly and and pointless because it's there's just other place to
- 33:24do it. What what happened to those
- 33:26guys? If let's say instead of losing
- 33:281,000,000 on what not, they went down to, they went down to the
- 33:31Wynn casino in, in Vegas and they went and blew 1,000,000
- 33:34bucks on blackjack. Do you think if they went down
- 33:36and and said hey, I'm going to sue you, I want my money back?
- 33:39They probably end up buried in the desert out in Vegas, You
- 33:41know what I mean? I mean, they'd laugh at you and
- 33:43then they're like, they're going what?
- 33:45Well, you know, but the casinos will stop you from losing all
- 33:49your money, that casino. But then the guy can go drive
- 33:52down the street, go to another one and then go any it's it's
- 33:56it's sad. Just seems like do I dare say
- 34:01it, It's like seems like a bunch of rich guys got silly with
- 34:05their money and now they're trying to sue to get that money
- 34:07back when in my opinion the suing should be don't have
- 34:12regulations on kids not being allowed.
- 34:16Adults are going to do adult things in this this cesspit of
- 34:19people. The people doing shady stuff,
- 34:21backdooring or what are tipping cards off that stuff.
- 34:24Whatnot needs to make rules about that.
- 34:27And so they're saying this is what's going to help that.
- 34:29I don't see this doing anything. I don't see this changing a
- 34:32single thing in the hobby Repacks.
- 34:34I've never had a problem with repacks.
- 34:36I even enjoyed some in my time I've never had a problem with.
- 34:40You know, Repacks are no different to me than tops making
- 34:43producing cards and letting them out into the world that way.
- 34:46In fact, some repacks have better odds You.
- 34:48And IA few years back we did the coolest.
- 34:52Sickest one. We got a checklist.
- 34:54I got one right up over there. Me too.
- 34:57I don't know if you there it is right in the corner there where
- 34:59I'm pointing. That is a double D Splendid
- 35:01sports. I it's still unopened.
- 35:03I don't know what's in there. I'm I'm not away.
- 35:05It's still unopened. We did a we did an awesome
- 35:08checklist and everything with vintage cards, all graded cards.
- 35:11So that was fun. I guess.
- 35:14I guess now it's maybe different.
- 35:15Maybe some of them don't do checklists and they don't, you
- 35:17know, they take advantage of it. But we we did it above board and
- 35:20we had a lot of fun with it. So that was cool.
- 35:22Yeah, above board, all four. And what is this going to do?
- 35:26I don't know, but yeah, I don't even know why I brought it up
- 35:29because I really shouldn't care about it, but it did.
- 35:31It does irk me sometimes when there's just.
- 35:34Yeah. Before we go, I just got a
- 35:37little notification from Spotify that there was an episode of
- 35:41Extra Innings with The Odd Couple, Mike Petty and Tony
- 35:45Southern Collector. I'm excited.
- 35:47I'm really having fun with Sports Card Clubhouse here.
- 35:50We got our show. Turn back the Clock on there.
- 35:52Obviously surface issues with Mike and Greg.
- 35:54Mike does this week in sports cards and we have the hit list
- 36:00with Jake wax pack, wax pack wisdom and Matt from Providence.
- 36:04And now we got The Odd Couple. So we got some real fun stuff
- 36:07going on here and probably some more in the future.
- 36:11So it's pretty cool, man. We got we got some a lot of
- 36:14entertaining, entertaining duos on here.
- 36:17And so I just want to, I want to mention that.
- 36:20And but Dylan, before we go one more time, I just want to
- 36:23mention guys, Reverend Steve, there's going to be a link
- 36:27GoFundMe you can hear about in the GoFundMe.
- 36:30It kind of gives you a breakdown of what happened.
- 36:33And even if you didn't know him, you know, it's, it's hard not to
- 36:38feel for a family that's going through that.
- 36:40So we got to mention that again. I, I, it's been on my mind.
- 36:43It's someone I never, I never talked to him.
- 36:45I never got a chance to talk to him.
- 36:47I watched his videos never met him but man someone that young
- 36:52it just I haven't been able I I just keep thinking about it.
- 36:55Me too. Yeah, it's been a couple days
- 36:57thinking about it. Yeah, so it's anyway that's
- 37:00that's going to be it for this episode, guys.
- 37:03Dylan, anything else? That's it.
- 37:06You know, these are opinions. These are opinions.
- 37:08These are our opinions. I just want to clarify that
- 37:12doesn't, you don't have to leave your your book by them or
- 37:15anything. These are just our own opinions
- 37:17about sports cards. Guys, leave a comment.
- 37:20We're happy to. You know, we always like the
- 37:22comments and sometimes they lead to another episode, so keep them
- 37:25coming. All right.
- 37:27See you guys.
