- 0:10SPEAKER_00: A new face, but maybe an old one.
- 0:13SPEAKER_00: Tommy Grassoffi here sitting in for the one and only Davis Michelson.
- 0:18SPEAKER_00: He's on the road.
- 0:19SPEAKER_00: I hope he comes back.
- 0:20SPEAKER_00: He might have joined a band.
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: I hope he didn't join the army.
- 0:23SPEAKER_00: We got a lot to talk about today.
- 0:25SPEAKER_00: We have a visitor from China.
- 0:28SPEAKER_00: Markets were moving, but did they really move?
- 0:31SPEAKER_00: All that more when we get into today's Egg Squawk.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: This is Tommy Grossoffi here listening to Egg Squawk.
- 0:51SPEAKER_00: It is Thursday.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: And was it busy?
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: Was it not busy in the markets?
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: Well, we're going to talk about that.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: Before we start the show, though, I want to thank our sponsors.
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: I want to thank Trade the News.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: I had Trade the News on all day.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: I was listening to it.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: Big shout out to the good folks at Trade the News.
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: What is Trade the News?
- 1:10SPEAKER_00: It's an audio squawk service, and it comes right through my laptop, and I can hear all the goodies and delicious information that's coming out.
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: There was a point in the day when the war was solved and oil went from up$4 to only up$1.50.
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: And then as we come around the corner, oil's going right back up.
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: Stocks were down big in the beginning of the day.
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: And then they went back down.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: Metals had a vicious move.
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: Grains last night they traded up, they traded down.
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: Let's get into what the quote board looks like today.
- 1:40SPEAKER_00: First, we'll start with the grain market here as we move along.
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: Grains today, looking at them, not too exciting of a close, but soybeans, I'm quoting up the NOVE 13, 16 and a half down one and a half.
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: October options expire tomorrow.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: Not a heavily traded option series, but yet if you thought for some reason something was going to happen, it's nice to know we have those.
- 2:03SPEAKER_00: Then after that, we're going to move on to the November options, and that's where a lot of the open interest is, and that as people uh prepare for the weather.
- 2:11SPEAKER_00: One interesting thing to note, and we'll talk about a little bit in the show, is soybean meal, but not just soybean meal.
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: Look at the October spread.
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: October versus Deese soybean meal.
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: Definitely moving on up.
- 2:27SPEAKER_00: And why is that?
- 2:28SPEAKER_00: Well, we'll wait here in a little bit in the show.
- 2:30SPEAKER_00: Corn 526.5.
- 2:32SPEAKER_00: That's deeps corn down two and a half.
- 2:33SPEAKER_00: It's traded both sides today and last night.
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: Wheat.
- 2:37SPEAKER_00: This is border trade wheat.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: We're quoting up the dece wheat 705.5 down two and three-quarters.
- 2:43SPEAKER_00: Well, let me just give you my perspective of what I noticed last night in the markets.
- 2:47SPEAKER_00: Grains opened up lower and kind of quite a bit last night because corn and beans and wheat closed towards low end.
- 2:55SPEAKER_00: And out of nowhere, beans open up down seven or eight last night.
- 2:58SPEAKER_00: What happened?
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: Well, some comments came out as the president of China landed here in the U.S.
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: And then our very own Treasury Secretary, Scott Basent, said, Yeah, I think we're going to extend things for a few months.
- 3:11SPEAKER_00: He didn't do the big kumbaya, they're going to buy everything.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: All this talk of they're going to buy beans, corn, wheat, cattle.
- 3:18SPEAKER_00: First, we need them to just meet their prior obligations.
- 3:22SPEAKER_00: But then, strangely, within a matter of minutes, beans opened up down eight.
- 3:27SPEAKER_00: They were unchanged.
- 3:28SPEAKER_00: Then coming in this morning, beans were up eight.
- 3:31SPEAKER_00: So is it a big deal that beans went from down eight to up eight?
- 3:33SPEAKER_00: No, but it did it all on nothing.
- 3:37SPEAKER_00: Biggest thing I can see on my screen, talking to clients, texting clients is you're starting to get some hot basis bids, especially for quick ship beans, but yet nobody can get the beans to the processor.
- 3:49SPEAKER_00: So the processor is sitting there waiting, saying, wow, there's a big bean crop coming.
- 3:53SPEAKER_00: Oh boy, oh boy.
- 3:54SPEAKER_00: And then all of a sudden they can't get them out of the field.
- 3:56SPEAKER_00: Well, weeks, no big deal.
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: But then a few weeks, now all of a sudden, all the old crops cleaned out, bins are cleaned out.
- 4:02SPEAKER_00: And I, if I was you and you're listening to this show, give your local end user a call.
- 4:08SPEAKER_00: But you may not be able to get your beans or your corn off the field just as well.
- 4:11SPEAKER_00: And so maybe not so much as a futures move, but a basis move.
- 4:16SPEAKER_00: Of course, we watch the cash markets, then we watch the spreads, and then we watch the futures.
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: The futures quote board again in the grains was uh pretty much boring.
- 4:24SPEAKER_00: All markets traded both sides.
- 4:26SPEAKER_00: Let's move over to the meats here.
- 4:27SPEAKER_00: Brother Joe, click us along.
- 4:30SPEAKER_00: Cattle open lower, feeders open lower, hogs.
- 4:34SPEAKER_00: I don't even have them on my quote board, but I do love bacon.
- 4:37SPEAKER_00: But I don't really work with any hog producers.
- 4:40SPEAKER_00: I have some hog producer friends.
- 4:41SPEAKER_00: I can tell you by that price, that's no bueno for profit margin.
- 4:45SPEAKER_00: That's actually uh some hog producers are looking at significant losses.
- 4:49SPEAKER_00: We spent most of our day in the live cattle up, but then by the end of the day, we traded a little lower.
- 4:54SPEAKER_00: I believe I wrote it down, these cattle 221 and just a tick down 130.
- 5:01SPEAKER_00: They spent most of the day up and then about 1230.
- 5:04SPEAKER_00: You saw some sell come sell orders coming in.
- 5:07SPEAKER_00: From what I could see down here in Nesvik trading in Nashville, Tennessee.
- 5:10SPEAKER_00: Looked like there was a buy program.
- 5:12SPEAKER_00: Every time cattle started to back off, there was a bid, there was a bid.
- 5:15SPEAKER_00: And when that buyer left, saw a little selling pressure late in the day in both the live cattle and the feeder cattle.
- 5:20SPEAKER_00: Feeder cattle.
- 5:21SPEAKER_00: This is Nove feeder cattle, 328.17, down 132.
- 5:27SPEAKER_00: Again, both live cattle and feeder cattle were firm all day.
- 5:31SPEAKER_00: All types of rumors going around about plants and what's open, what's closed, packer profitability, packer losses.
- 5:40SPEAKER_00: It's getting a little crazy out there.
- 5:42SPEAKER_00: Of course, we're always keeping an eye on Secretary of Ag Rollins, see if she's commenting.
- 5:47SPEAKER_00: We still have the border slowly opening.
- 5:51SPEAKER_00: And we don't even want to say that nasty word anymore.
- 5:54SPEAKER_00: And it does feel like it's a little under control.
- 5:56SPEAKER_00: I'm not even gonna say it about that little worm.
- 5:59SPEAKER_00: We're not even gonna talk about that.
- 6:00SPEAKER_00: But then moving over to Hogs.
- 6:02SPEAKER_00: Hogs, I had a big shout out.
- 6:04SPEAKER_00: Chad Layman called from Eureka, Illinois yesterday.
- 6:07SPEAKER_00: He said, Tommy, I'm pissed off at you.
- 6:09SPEAKER_00: You said you sent out text alerts saying that we all should have bought crude oil.
- 6:13SPEAKER_00: I said, Chad, you don't subscribe to the service.
- 6:17SPEAKER_00: You didn't get the text alerts.
- 6:18SPEAKER_00: So, of course, if you're out there and you haven't subscribed to premium, you sure wish you did.
- 6:22SPEAKER_00: Brother Joe pop up that premium ad, but for$25 a month,$250 a year.
- 6:27SPEAKER_00: We're putting out text, emails, all types of good information.
- 6:31SPEAKER_00: Yesterday's video was with Mike Sands and Jed Sidwell, and they talked about cattle.
- 6:37SPEAKER_00: They call it Fat Tuesday, not always recorded on a Tuesday.
- 6:41SPEAKER_00: I think this week's Fat Tuesday was on Wednesday, but that was yesterday's premium.
- 6:45SPEAKER_00: Of course, I'm gonna do a premium tomorrow about interest rates.
- 6:48SPEAKER_00: That's really starting to become a thorn in our side.
- 6:51SPEAKER_00: We're going to talk about that a little bit more here.
- 6:54SPEAKER_00: Before we get going in the show, I do want to thank Plus 500.
- 6:57SPEAKER_00: If you need quotes, this is what I look at.
- 6:59SPEAKER_00: If I pull up my phone and I'm looking at quotes on the market, I'm using plus 500.
- 7:05SPEAKER_00: They are my futures clearing merchant of choice, and I love the T4 software.
- 7:11SPEAKER_00: Call me biased, but I've had a relationship with Cunningham Futures and Plus 500 for over 30 years.
- 7:17SPEAKER_00: And big shout out to the uh Cunningham family who uh always keeps us running.
- 7:23SPEAKER_00: It's not always great to have live quotes in your hand because it means you can make live trades, and sometimes it's better to look at the markets from a distance.
- 7:30SPEAKER_00: When we're here in the office with all the traders, we're watching every tick, every this, and you get caught up in all the noise.
- 7:37SPEAKER_00: But with that, I have a couple slides and I want to talk about corn.
- 7:42SPEAKER_00: I want to talk about the overall feel of corn, graying markets, Tommy G's thoughts on corn, and then we'll move to beans and wheat.
- 7:51SPEAKER_00: But when it comes to corn, the markets, if you watch analyst, if you listen to different ag shows, this show, other shows, you have a lot of people talking about$6 corn,$650 corn.
- 8:05SPEAKER_00: Folks, we're having a hard time getting back up to$550.
- 8:08SPEAKER_00: Here's the problem with corn.
- 8:09SPEAKER_00: I think corn has a great story, but we're gonna have a huge amount of harvest pressure whenever this rain stops and starts moving along.
- 8:18SPEAKER_00: And as the harvest pressure comes in, it's it's natural when you look at the curve, when you look at December futures versus March futures versus July futures.
- 8:28SPEAKER_00: And then when you talk about interest rates being as high as they are, and then you talk about the ultimate thorn in the side, diesel fuel.
- 8:37SPEAKER_00: The way logistically corn moves around the country may change a little bit, and there's no freight rates.
- 8:43SPEAKER_00: We're gonna have to talk about freight rates one day on this show because if you're some foreign country and you could afford$10 million worth of grain, you're not gonna get as much as you used to.
- 8:53SPEAKER_00: Because when you pack it on a train, send it to the PNW, and then send it around the world, it's gonna cost more.
- 8:59SPEAKER_00: And sometimes countries only have X amount of dollars.
- 9:02SPEAKER_00: So keep an eye on those exports.
- 9:05SPEAKER_00: I want to shut off my email here.
- 9:06SPEAKER_00: I hear it dinging and danging.
- 9:08SPEAKER_00: But keep an eye over the long term for multiple months on exports.
- 9:12SPEAKER_00: Yes, we have great demand.
- 9:14SPEAKER_00: Yes, we have a shorter crop.
- 9:16SPEAKER_00: That's been pretty much proven through all the crop tours.
- 9:19SPEAKER_00: Keep an eye on basis.
- 9:20SPEAKER_00: But the funds are a record long or real close to a record long.
- 9:25SPEAKER_00: And the bull needs to be fed every day.
- 9:27SPEAKER_00: And you know, here at Ag Bull, we like to eat, but the market's like that too.
- 9:31SPEAKER_00: It needs to eat every day.
- 9:33SPEAKER_00: So if you said, Tommy, what happened today with corn, beans, and wheat?
- 9:36SPEAKER_00: China came to town and no big headlines.
- 9:40SPEAKER_00: Maybe tonight, after the state dinner, maybe we'll hear something.
- 9:44SPEAKER_00: But for the most part, as you have a lot of experience in markets, you start to say, what happened?
- 9:51SPEAKER_00: And really nothing's happening.
- 9:52SPEAKER_00: That's why grains are trading lower, but they get excited at night as if something's going on.
- 9:59SPEAKER_00: I could sit here and do an hour show on all the bullish things in corn and wheat.
- 10:04SPEAKER_00: Maybe not so much beans, but maybe if the yield's not 53, maybe it's 52 or 51.5.
- 10:11SPEAKER_00: And then we have weather in South America.
- 10:12SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I can give you a bull story in soybeans, but the the easy bull story is to talk about wheat, and yet wheat's been trading as weak as anything.
- 10:21SPEAKER_00: At one point today, I think uh Border Trade, Casey, Minneapolis wheat, we're all down eight to ten cents.
- 10:27SPEAKER_00: It rallied back a few times.
- 10:29SPEAKER_00: What makes wheat rally?
- 10:30SPEAKER_00: Every time we see a headline that uh Russia's bombing Ukraine or Ukraine's Ukraine's bombing Russia, Russia's bombing Ukraine, you see wheat explode.
- 10:40SPEAKER_00: Yet that bull needs to be fed every day, too.
- 10:43SPEAKER_00: There is no doubt that there is an incredible amount of grain stuck in the Black Sea region that's just not moving.
- 10:49SPEAKER_00: But how do we get that out?
- 10:51SPEAKER_00: So when you look at a balance sheet, you say, oh, there's grain in the world, but it's kind of stuck.
- 10:55SPEAKER_00: And now it's stuck behind this huge freight rate.
- 10:58SPEAKER_00: And in the end, I think that's going to come back and bite us.
- 11:00SPEAKER_00: So, yes, we've been elevated diesel fuel prices here for a few weeks.
- 11:05SPEAKER_00: Think about if we're still this high in a few months, it's probably going to be a demand killer.
- 11:10SPEAKER_00: So I can give you a bullseye, a bear side.
- 11:13SPEAKER_00: Things that make me nervous, keep me up a little bit at night, is that if you go home long grain as a farmer, as a speculator, and the funds are long grain, and the bull doesn't get fed, and someone hits the exit window or door, it's going to get a little ugly because they have a large amount of length on.
- 11:31SPEAKER_00: And we we have this block.
- 11:33SPEAKER_00: Like we traded down today, even though harvest isn't really ramping up.
- 11:37SPEAKER_00: So we'll see what the weather looks like.
- 11:39SPEAKER_00: We'll see as the weeks go on.
- 11:41SPEAKER_00: If this window opens up, harvest is going to come at us hard and fast.
- 11:45SPEAKER_00: What's done is done in the wheat crop.
- 11:47SPEAKER_00: We're just trading supply and demand.
- 11:48SPEAKER_00: And we're sitting here in America saying, someone come buy our wheat, but yet we're not competitively priced.
- 11:55SPEAKER_00: That's my thoughts on corn, beans, and wheat.
- 11:58SPEAKER_00: Let's move along here on the show.
- 11:59SPEAKER_00: See what I have for another slide here, Brother Joe.
- 12:03SPEAKER_00: Breaking news.
- 12:05SPEAKER_00: I didn't put up the picture I wanted to, but I'll tell you this.
- 12:09SPEAKER_00: China came to America, and all we got were two pandas.
- 12:13SPEAKER_00: When I looked at X today or I looked at Trade the News, I didn't see any breaking headlines about all the yummy, delicious things they're going to buy.
- 12:21SPEAKER_00: I saw we got two pandas.
- 12:24SPEAKER_00: And I hear compliments going back and forth.
- 12:26SPEAKER_00: I did hear the term Taiwan, President Trump and President China were behind closed doors, and their comments were talking about Taiwan.
- 12:36SPEAKER_00: That makes the NASDAQ market and our old overall market a little skittish to uh say the least.
- 12:44SPEAKER_00: Now, something else that makes our markets skittish is interest rates.
- 12:49SPEAKER_00: We have elevated, elevated interest rates.
- 12:52SPEAKER_00: 30-year treasury yield hits highest level since 2020 four.
- 12:57SPEAKER_00: That's a problem, folks.
- 12:59SPEAKER_00: Anyone out there wants to sell a house, anyone out there who needs to borrow a bunch of money, folks in agriculture, you need to borrow money to stay in business.
- 13:08SPEAKER_00: It takes a lot of capital to buy a home.
- 13:10SPEAKER_00: It takes a lot of capital to raise cattle.
- 13:13SPEAKER_00: Takes a lot of capital to put 5,000 acres of corn and beans in there.
- 13:17SPEAKER_00: Takes a lot of capital to fill up your tractor, your combine, your trucks with diesel fuel.
- 13:22SPEAKER_00: Interest rates are going up.
- 13:24SPEAKER_00: We tried to have a buyback today and it wasn't well received.
- 13:27SPEAKER_00: The United States government's gently doing a QE and the buyback didn't go well.
- 13:33SPEAKER_00: Early in the morning, I asked my brother, do you see bonds?
- 13:35SPEAKER_00: He's like, Yeah, they're up today.
- 13:37SPEAKER_00: They're quiet.
- 13:37SPEAKER_00: I'm like, no, look at bonds are down 20 ticks.
- 13:40SPEAKER_00: Going home, bonds were down about 25 ticks.
- 13:43SPEAKER_00: When I say bonds are down at the board of trade, that means yields are going up.
- 13:48SPEAKER_00: And from my chart friends, they say we're breaking out to the downside in the bond chart.
- 13:54SPEAKER_00: What's that all mean?
- 13:56SPEAKER_00: Well, there's a guy who really knows his stuff, and I want to give him a shout-out.
- 13:59SPEAKER_00: I think this is the I don't know where Davis keeps the shout-out button.
- 14:03SPEAKER_00: It might be this one.
- 14:06SPEAKER_00: Um that's the sexiest man button.
- 14:10SPEAKER_00: I forget what button's what, but I want to give a shout-out to a friend, acquaintance, Rick Santelli, long time veteran commentator with CNBC.
- 14:20SPEAKER_00: I think today was actually his last day at CNBC.
- 14:24SPEAKER_00: And he's probably one of the only reasons I watched CNBC because that guy's no fluff.
- 14:29SPEAKER_00: He puts it out there.
- 14:30SPEAKER_00: He worked on the floor forever.
- 14:32SPEAKER_00: He was so nice.
- 14:33SPEAKER_00: Every time I'd put my trading coat on and bring guests down to the floor, even though half the time it looked like you'd think you're at a funeral because those guys knew eventually the end was coming.
- 14:43SPEAKER_00: But Rick did so many broadcasts from the floor, and he actually, if you Google it and watch the video, he invented the term tea party, and that really caught people's attention.
- 14:54SPEAKER_00: And he's been quoted by presidents and they watch his stuff.
- 14:58SPEAKER_00: But Rick Santelli from CNBC retired today.
- 15:01SPEAKER_00: Why am I bringing him up?
- 15:03SPEAKER_00: Well, one, I like him.
- 15:03SPEAKER_00: He's a good dude.
- 15:04SPEAKER_00: Two, that guy just made explaining markets simple.
- 15:07SPEAKER_00: If there was a Fed decision or if there was a CPI or PPI, Rick always made it easy.
- 15:12SPEAKER_00: But I'm telling you, folks, everyone's fixated on the price of corn, wheat, and beans.
- 15:17SPEAKER_00: The real story is interest rates and energies.
- 15:21SPEAKER_00: It's not a good look for this president for these midterms.
- 15:25SPEAKER_00: As you come into midterms and you were promised lower fuel prices and their record highs, when you were promised interest rates are going to go down in affordability, and you get this word sticky, sticky inflation, it becomes a problem.
- 15:38SPEAKER_00: Not just for you or for me, for the whole world.
- 15:41SPEAKER_00: The whole world's caught short fuel.
- 15:43SPEAKER_00: I have clients call every day complaining about the price of energy, and they act like they're the only one who's caught short bought.
- 15:51SPEAKER_00: The airlines, some of the airlines literally use a couple hundred thousand gallons of aviation fuel per hour.
- 15:58SPEAKER_00: So whatever it costs you to fill up your tractor, your combine, it costs a lot more than it did last year.
- 16:03SPEAKER_00: And although it felt good that oil traded down for three, four days, when you walk in this morning, you see that up four, it's not a good look.
- 16:11SPEAKER_00: And yesterday oil was down, but then it closed up.
- 16:14SPEAKER_00: It's not a good look, not only for America, but for the world.
- 16:18SPEAKER_00: Well, with that, I got to think about what else we have in here.
- 16:21SPEAKER_00: How is the weather where you are?
- 16:24SPEAKER_00: I popped up this map.
- 16:25SPEAKER_00: I'm wearing a long-sleeve dress shirt here today on Ag Squawk.
- 16:30SPEAKER_00: I'm here in Nashville, but look at that blue and aqua there on the screen.
- 16:34SPEAKER_00: You're seeing temperatures in Minnesota, 65, 62, 59, 66.
- 16:39SPEAKER_00: Not quite sweater weather, but here in Nashville, Tennessee, 75, 80.
- 16:45SPEAKER_00: It's actually warming up.
- 16:47SPEAKER_00: I could feel the heat coming through the windows here as I uh overlook Broadway.
- 16:51SPEAKER_00: But cold, rainy, we're getting into more of that seasonal weather.
- 16:56SPEAKER_00: It's harvest weather, it's football weather.
- 16:58SPEAKER_00: Speaking of football, allegedly President Trump's gonna go to the University of Tennessee on Saturday, game day.
- 17:05SPEAKER_00: They say he may even be behind the big leafy microphone wearing orange, which won't be hard for him.
- 17:12SPEAKER_00: It seems to be his favorite color.
- 17:14SPEAKER_00: All right, what else do we have in the show, Brother JoJo?
- 17:17SPEAKER_00: Well, of course, I want to tell you all we put out some content here on Ag Bull.

- 17:59SPEAKER_00: Spotify has a really interesting algorithm.
- 18:04SPEAKER_00: And it it helps.
- 18:06SPEAKER_00: It helps get the word out.
- 18:07SPEAKER_00: Those are free shows.
- 18:08SPEAKER_00: Text them to a friend.

- 18:49SPEAKER_00: We have all different walks of life on and we let people talk.

- 20:00SPEAKER_00: Is someone involved in livestock, agriculture, row crops?
- 20:06SPEAKER_00: There's a lot of times shows like this talk about corn and beans, but Jim Wiesmeyer's really helped me talk about other things like cotton, sugar.

- 20:16SPEAKER_00: There's all types of crops.
- 20:17SPEAKER_00: We haven't even moved over to California.
- 20:19SPEAKER_00: If California was its own country, it'd be the fifth largest economy in the world.
- 20:25SPEAKER_00: And they have so much agriculture.
- 20:27SPEAKER_00: Matter of fact, California is the uh number one agricultural state in America.
- 20:32SPEAKER_00: I think Iowa is number two.
