- 0:00Speaker 1: Drew Jordan said, was Burrow twenty four? No, Joe Burrow
- 0:03Speaker 1: was not twenty four at LSU. He was a fifth
- 0:07Speaker 1: year player by the time he was he was playing
- 0:11Speaker 1: at LSU. But no, Joe Burrow was not twenty four
- 0:14Speaker 1: by the time he finished. Joe is hang, I'll tell
- 0:19Speaker 1: you right now, Joe, Joe's twenty nine right now. So
- 0:22Speaker 1: he was born December of ninety six, so in he
- 0:29Speaker 1: would have been twenty three, if I'm not mistaken, by
- 0:32Speaker 1: the time it had been twenty three whenever they won
- 0:35Speaker 1: the national championship. So Joe would have been within that
- 0:38Speaker 1: five at five year window, which is what it's designed
- 0:41Speaker 1: to do. You get your you know, the new five
- 0:44Speaker 1: to play five. Your your clock begins upon enrolling. So
- 0:49Speaker 1: if you're eighteen, when you graduate high school and immediately
- 0:53Speaker 1: enroll in college, your clock begins then if or when
- 1:00Speaker 1: you turn nineteen. So as Zach was saying, some your
- 1:04Speaker 1: parents you may hold your children back. Well, even if
- 1:07Speaker 1: you hold your children back and they're nineteen as a
- 1:10Speaker 1: senior in high school, well their their clock begins. Their
- 1:15Speaker 1: collegiate clock, the five to Play five begins at nineteen,
- 1:17Speaker 1: so they may not end up playing five years, because
- 1:20Speaker 1: their first year could of their five to play five
- 1:23Speaker 1: begins when they're actually senior in high school, so they
- 1:26Speaker 1: may only end up getting four. So that isn't a
- 1:28Speaker 1: really interesting perspective Zach brought up there that I hadn't considered.
- 1:32Speaker 1: All right, it's after further review. You remember, you can
- 1:33Speaker 1: always email us, tweet us, or text us two two five,
- 1:36Speaker 1: three nine six forty four hundred three nine six forty
- 1:38Speaker 1: four hundred three nine six four four zero zero, lots
- 1:40Speaker 1: of ways you get involved in sho You can tweet
- 1:42Speaker 1: us as well at Matt Moscona if you if you
- 1:44Speaker 1: want to give us a shout there on Twitter. But
- 1:48Speaker 1: the Saints have begun their their six week off season
- 1:56Speaker 1: with the off season work now being done, and I
- 1:59Speaker 1: use that term lose. With the offseason work, the OTA,
- 2:02Speaker 1: you know, the rookie minicamp, the OTAs, the mandatory mini
- 2:05Speaker 1: camp all being done. Now, you got about six weeks
- 2:08Speaker 1: until training camp and training camp starts. As we know,
- 2:11Speaker 1: the Saints will convene on July twenty seventh. We found
- 2:13Speaker 1: that out earlier this week is the NFL announced the
- 2:15Speaker 1: start of training camp dates for all thirty two teams.
- 2:18Speaker 1: So you have until July twenty seventh. These guys are
- 2:20Speaker 1: going to go and work out and take vacation and
- 2:24Speaker 1: get ready for camp and hopefully be ready to roll
- 2:26Speaker 1: whenever whenever they start up on July twenty seventh. Well,
- 2:29Speaker 1: it's also a time, you know, for I think Kellen
- 2:32Speaker 1: Moore and this staff to continue to lock in on
- 2:36Speaker 1: processes for his second year as an NFL head coach.
- 2:39Speaker 1: And I found this interesting because Matthew Stafford, of course
- 2:41Speaker 1: is the NFL's reigning MVP, was a guest on Chris
- 2:45Speaker 1: Long's show A green Light with Chris Longs's YouTube shows podcast,
- 2:50Speaker 1: and they taught the podcast. The full episode lasted just
- 2:55Speaker 1: under an hour, but when they got about forty minutes
- 2:59Speaker 1: into the show, it was interesting because Chris Long brought
- 3:02Speaker 1: up a couple of Matthew Stafford's backup quarterbacks in Detroit,
- 3:08Speaker 1: and there was a point where both Dan Orlovsky, who's
- 3:12Speaker 1: now of course an analyst on ESPN, and Kellen Moore,
- 3:15Speaker 1: who's the Saints head coach, were Stafford's backups. So Stafford
- 3:20Speaker 1: came into the NFL. He was undrafted out of Boise
- 3:22Speaker 1: in the twenty twelve draft and was signed as a
- 3:25Speaker 1: UDFA by Detroit, and he spent three seasons twelve, thirteen,
- 3:29Speaker 1: and fourteen as a backup in Detroit. Orlowsky was there
- 3:33Speaker 1: at that time as well, and there was some thought
- 3:34Speaker 1: that maybe Kellen Moore would beat out Dan Orlovsky, but
- 3:38Speaker 1: the Lions maintained or retained Rolowski as the primary backup
- 3:42Speaker 1: that was under Jim Caldwell there. And then after those
- 3:47Speaker 1: three seasons, Moore was cut in training camp in twenty fifteen.
- 3:52Speaker 1: Then he signed with the Cowboys and ultimately spent three
- 3:54Speaker 1: years as a backup in Dallas. So Kellen Moore's NFL
- 3:58Speaker 1: career was six seasons with Detroit and then with Dallas.
- 4:02Speaker 1: And it was interesting though because as a young player
- 4:05Speaker 1: right out of college where he left Boise State is
- 4:07Speaker 1: the winningest quarterback in the history of college football. More
- 4:11Speaker 1: goes and there's a veteran Matthew Stafford. Well, as veteran
- 4:14Speaker 1: Stafford was was was a few I guess he was
- 4:18Speaker 1: a young veteran into his NFL career at that point,
- 4:21Speaker 1: and that's when Stafford and Kellen Moore cross paths. And
- 4:24Speaker 1: so Stafford had this to say about Kellen Moore on
- 4:28Speaker 1: the green Light Podcast with Chris Long and Kellen.
- 4:31Speaker 2: The reason why that's not surprising is like you saw
- 4:34Speaker 2: that early. You know, like you could see him and man,
- 4:37Speaker 2: this guy he had a knack for the game, understanding
- 4:40Speaker 2: for play calling and doing all those kind of things
- 4:42Speaker 2: even as a player. So you know, it's it's cool
- 4:46Speaker 2: to see both those guys do their thing and be
- 4:48Speaker 2: so successful what they do, and and looks like they're
- 4:50Speaker 2: both having a ton of fun doing it.
- 4:52Speaker 1: I guess the the giant difference between a guy like
- 4:57Speaker 1: Stafford and then Orlofsky and and Moore isn't the understanding
- 5:02Speaker 1: of the game, the cerebral part processing. It's just it's
- 5:05Speaker 1: the physical part of the game. I mean, Matthew Stafford's
- 5:08Speaker 1: size and armstrength is what made him the number one
- 5:10Speaker 1: pick overall. Kellen, Moore and Dan Arlovski just clearly didn't
- 5:14Speaker 1: have that, which is why neither of them were able
- 5:16Speaker 1: to play long. It is interesting, though, when you look
- 5:18Speaker 1: at current NFL head coaches that you know were or
- 5:23Speaker 1: quarterbacks in the league. A Jim Harbaugh played fourteen NFL
- 5:26Speaker 1: seasons and has become a great coach, But you don't
- 5:30Speaker 1: not being a quarterback doesn't isn't necessarily a prerequisite to
- 5:33Speaker 1: being a great head coach. Sean Pate, of course, was
- 5:38Speaker 1: a quarterback who's one of the scabs during the strike season.
- 5:41Speaker 1: It played lower level football, but sometimes just being a
- 5:44Speaker 1: quarterback helps. I mean Gary Kubiak, Doug Peterson, Jason Garrett,
- 5:48Speaker 1: who's not a head coach in the NFL anymore but
- 5:50Speaker 1: has been, guys like Sam Wise, June Jones, Jim Zorn.
- 5:53Speaker 1: I mean, you can go through the list. There's a
- 5:55Speaker 1: lot of guys who were NFL quarterbacks, who were quarterbacks
- 6:00Speaker 1: who have become who became really good head coaches. I'm
- 6:04Speaker 1: really fascinated to see how this continues to materialize for
- 6:09Speaker 1: Kellen Moore in year two in the NFL, because the
- 6:12Speaker 1: thing that stands out most to me, and I'll tell
- 6:15Speaker 1: you if I had one, I don't even know that
- 6:18Speaker 1: I would say reservation or a negative about it. It
- 6:21Speaker 1: was just a question really with Kellen Moore was his age.
- 6:25Speaker 1: And that's not always a detriment. I mean, Sean McVay
- 6:32Speaker 1: got an NFL head coaching job in his early thirties
- 6:34Speaker 1: and won a Super Bowl, and he's stuck and has
- 6:36Speaker 1: been one of the best coaches in the league. But
- 6:39Speaker 1: Lane Kiffin got a head coaching job at thirty two
- 6:41Speaker 1: and it blew up in his face. So not every
- 6:44Speaker 1: young head coach is ready. Now, those are maybe two
- 6:47Speaker 1: polar opposite examples, but it's an illustration of what can happen.
- 6:52Speaker 1: So Kellen Moore got the Saints head coaching job at
- 6:56Speaker 1: thirty six years old. Kellen's thirty seven. Now he'll be
- 6:59Speaker 1: thirty eight in July July fifth. But you're talking about
- 7:02Speaker 1: a guy who, in his first season as an NFL
- 7:05Speaker 1: head coach was the same age as Cam Jordan. And
- 7:08Speaker 1: to Mario Davis, I mean literally had dudes on his
- 7:11Speaker 1: team were the same age of him as he was.
- 7:13Speaker 1: And the thing, I tell you, the thing that stood
- 7:15Speaker 1: out is when we were at Super Bowl Radio Row
- 7:18Speaker 1: this past February and to Mario sat with us on
- 7:22Speaker 1: Radio Row and did an interview and we had this
- 7:24Speaker 1: conversation and if to Mario acknowledged it was a thing
- 7:29Speaker 1: that maybe he considered initially. But the thing that sort
- 7:33Speaker 1: of won to Mario in the locker room over with
- 7:37Speaker 1: Kellen Moore is that his demeanor never changed no matter
- 7:42Speaker 1: if they were on a seven game losing streak or
- 7:45Speaker 1: when they won four or five late. No matter what,
- 7:48Speaker 1: Kellen was the same guy. I'm relating what to Mario
- 7:51Speaker 1: said to us there at Radio Row, and that was
- 7:53Speaker 1: something that earned a lot of respect to the locker
- 7:55Speaker 1: room that there wasn't there weren't emotional swings, and there
- 7:58Speaker 1: wasn't a an overreaction to anything good or bad. It
- 8:02Speaker 1: was very even keel and that allowed Kellen to earn
- 8:06Speaker 1: the respect of the guys in the locker room. So
- 8:08Speaker 1: now that he's been established as a head coach for
- 8:10Speaker 1: a year, how does he build upon that in year two?
- 8:14Speaker 1: You know? And I think some of it too is
- 8:17Speaker 1: just getting his roster like he wants it, like a
- 8:20Speaker 1: great example. We've obviously seen some veterans leave, right I
- 8:24Speaker 1: mean Tyron Matthews no longer on the team. We just
- 8:28Speaker 1: mentioned to Mario Davis. We'll see what happens with Alvin Kamara.
- 8:33Speaker 1: I think we all universally agree Kamara is not going
- 8:35Speaker 1: to play this year under his contract. Under the current contract,
- 8:38Speaker 1: He's either going to take a pay cut or he'll
- 8:40Speaker 1: be cut. You know, We'll see how that goes. Cam Jordan,
- 8:44Speaker 1: we know now is coming back, but he sell us
- 8:46Speaker 1: to make the team, you know, so, but you Taysom Hill,
- 8:51Speaker 1: I think maybe is a really pretty crystal clear example
- 8:56Speaker 1: of having something I don't want to say forced upon you,
- 9:00Speaker 1: but not that you inherit something like. One of the
- 9:03Speaker 1: things I've been asked a lot with obviously Taysom not
- 9:06Speaker 1: being back in New Orleans is well, you know who's
- 9:08Speaker 1: gonna replace Taysom Who's gonna be the Taysom Hill role?
- 9:11Speaker 1: Literally nobody, literally nobody. I mean, Taysom Hill has done
- 9:15Speaker 1: stuff in the NFL that we haven't seen since Frank
- 9:17Speaker 1: Gifford in the nineteen fifties. As far as his versatility,
- 9:21Speaker 1: there's no other team in the league that has a
- 9:23Speaker 1: player like him, that features a player like that, because
- 9:28Speaker 1: Number one, it's just it's rare to find a guy
- 9:31Speaker 1: with that skill set and willingness to do all those
- 9:33Speaker 1: different things, and then a coach that knows how to
- 9:35Speaker 1: utilize Remember that was a Sean Payton brainchild with Pete Carmichael.
- 9:39Speaker 1: So Peyton and Carmichael are gone. Will Taysom was still
- 9:42Speaker 1: under contract and he was coming off a knee injury.
- 9:44Speaker 1: Will Kellen had this weapon. It felt like he had
- 9:45Speaker 1: to use him in that capacity, but he was inheriting
- 9:48Speaker 1: somebody else's vision, will you no longer have that on
- 9:52Speaker 1: the roster. So all that to say is you're going
- 9:54Speaker 1: to replace Taysom on the roster. As great a team
- 9:56Speaker 1: guys he was and will love Taysom, but you're replacing
- 9:59Speaker 1: that guy on the roster with someone that more fits
- 10:01Speaker 1: what Kellen wants to do. So you're gonna see I
- 10:04Speaker 1: think you're one of your two. Even more of his
- 10:06Speaker 1: vision start to crystallize, which will be pretty cool to see.
- 10:09Speaker 1: So there's a pretty pretty powerful co sign there by
- 10:13Speaker 1: Matthew Stafford on Chris Laun's podcast talking about Kellen Moore.
- 10:16Speaker 1: All right, a chapter further review. Thanks for hanging out
- 10:18Speaker 1: with u. Here we're brought about First South Farm Credit,

- 10:36Speaker 1: on somebody else's property, you're maybe hesitant to take down

- 11:14Speaker 1: we are going to talk to Ross Ellinger in forty
- 11:16Speaker 1: five minutes from right now. I am most interested as
- 11:19Speaker 1: far as the new age restrictions in the five to
- 11:23Speaker 1: play five rule and all that sort of stuff in
- 11:25Speaker 1: college athletics. What that's going to mean in the immediacy
- 11:28Speaker 1: for will Wade's basketball team this year. We talk about
- 11:31Speaker 1: that with Ross in about forty five minutes from right now.
- 11:33Speaker 1: Let me knock out a quick break. Well, lo and behold,
