And today, let's learn something you use every day: the days of the week. Luna: Oh, that's useful! I know some of them from watching German TV shows. Lucas: Nice. Okay, let's start with the first day: Monday. In German, der Montag. Luna: Der Montag. Sounds a bit like "Monday" but with a 't'. Lucas: Right. Say it again, slowly: der Mon-tag. Luna: Der Montag. Lucas: Perfect. Now Tuesday: der Dienstag. Luna: Der Dienstag. That's like "Dienst" plus "Tag". Lucas: Exactly. Wednesday is der Mittwoch. Means "mid-week". Luna: Der Mittwoch. That's a mouthful! Der Mitt-woch. Lucas: You got it. Thursday: der Donnerstag. Like "thunder" — Donner. Luna: Der Donnerstag. Donner... thunder. Cool. Lucas: Friday: der Freitag. Means "free day" — Freitag. Luna: Der Freitag. I like that one. Free day. Lucas: Saturday: der Samstag. Some regions say der Sonnabend, but Samstag is common. Luna: Der Samstag. Sounds like "Saturday" without the 'ur'. Lucas: And Sunday: der Sonntag. Sun day. Luna: Der Sonntag. Like "sun" and "tag". Easy. Lucas: Great. Now let's put them in a little scene. Imagine you're planning a week with a friend. Luna: Okay. Lucas: Say: "Am Montag gehe ich ins Kino." On Monday, I go to the cinema. Luna: Am Montag gehe ich ins Kino. So "am" means "on"? Lucas: Exactly. Now you try: "Am Dienstag..." and do something. Luna: Am Dienstag... uhh... lerne ich Deutsch. Lucas: Oh, I love that! Am Dienstag lerne ich Deutsch. Perfect. Luna: Am Mittwoch... treffe ich Freunde? Lucas: Yes! Am Mittwoch treffe ich Freunde. Nice. Luna: Am Donnerstag... maybe I relax. Am Donnerstag entspanne ich mich. Lucas: Good verb. Am Freitag? Luna: Am Freitag... feiere ich Party! Lucas: Ha, there you go. And Samstag and Sonntag?
