- 0:18Speaker 1: Return to Glory Podcast one week until kickoff in Arrowhead
- 0:26Speaker 1: Stadium against the Cincinnati Bearcats under Zaberniki, Austin Rose, Dakota,
- 0:31Speaker 1: Free Tag Dakota and I spent last night at zip
- 0:38Speaker 1: Line Brewery in Fallbrook with the Husker Online guys for
- 0:43Speaker 1: they put on a great show. They're a live show,
- 0:47Speaker 1: dak Any, great takeaways from the real professionals.
- 0:55Speaker 2: I mean I was impressed with time people actual showed
- 0:58Speaker 2: up for it. I mean there was they said that
- 1:02Speaker 2: three hundred last time. I don't think how many hundred
- 1:04Speaker 2: and fifty this time I would say we're there. But yeah,
- 1:08Speaker 2: it was a good showing for it. And I liked
- 1:15Speaker 2: I liked how smoothly they could talk. It's impressive.
- 1:19Speaker 1: They've been doing it for a while. Yeah, they're the
- 1:22Speaker 1: ones that everybody wants to be. The Husker Online guys,
- 1:26Speaker 1: Sean Callahan, Steve Simple, Robin Washut, they do a great job.
- 1:32Speaker 1: They're on Husker Online. They're They're one that I make
- 1:35Speaker 1: sure I listened to before we do any of our
- 1:38Speaker 1: episodes and get some nice thoughts from them, and and
- 1:41Speaker 1: love to hear what they have to say.
- 1:42Speaker 3: Austin that they want to hear guys listens as well.
- 1:47Speaker 3: Every once in a while I went to religious listener.
- 1:50Speaker 4: You know, I try to have just you know, come
- 1:52Speaker 4: in here with mostly cold takes, you know, no no
- 1:56Speaker 4: other information, but.
- 1:58Speaker 2: We gotta get a shout out.
- 2:00Speaker 1: We did, We did submit a question. We asked. We
- 2:04Speaker 1: asked Old Sean if he's are practicing this punts. So
- 2:12Speaker 1: we do have a little two part episode today, So
- 2:14Speaker 1: we're gonna talk some key headlines here at a start,
- 2:18Speaker 1: and then towards the end, we are going to have
- 2:20Speaker 1: an interview with Randol Rickenberg who he is my brother
- 2:25Speaker 1: in law but also old Kase State Wildcat fan ahead
- 2:30Speaker 1: of the week zero game here coming up in a
- 2:32Speaker 1: couple of days across the ocean as Case State takes
- 2:37Speaker 1: on Iowa State in the farm Againton. So we will
- 2:41Speaker 1: have the interview for you here shortly. So first off,
- 2:46Speaker 1: I want to talk about some recent news that we
- 2:50Speaker 1: did not talk about on Monday. Tory Pittman a soon
- 2:57Speaker 1: to be five star most likely I guess he's currently
- 2:59Speaker 1: a four star the one recruiting rankings, they don't do
- 3:03Speaker 1: five stars until they reach a certain point in their
- 3:06Speaker 1: high school or career, but most likely going to be
- 3:08Speaker 1: a five star commits to Nebraska. He had other interests
- 3:15Speaker 1: from schools like Michigan.
- 3:17Speaker 2: Oregon, so.
- 3:20Speaker 1: A big time get for the twenty twenty seven class,
- 3:24Speaker 1: joining Trade Taylor in that class as well, which was
- 3:27Speaker 1: a big git a few months ago. I guess, first off,
- 3:32Speaker 1: big picture, what does this mean for the program? What
- 3:37Speaker 1: this is? I mean, we've got some big time records.
- 3:39Speaker 1: This is not like this is a safety too, right,
- 3:42Speaker 1: It's not a quarterback. It's one of these other positions.
- 3:46Speaker 1: But you know, talk about four or five star guys,
- 3:49Speaker 1: we don't usually get a lot of those. Dylan Royola,
- 3:53Speaker 1: Marlon Lucky. I think we talked about was maybe our
- 3:55Speaker 1: last five star that we've gotten. What does this mean
- 3:58Speaker 1: for rule in the program?
- 4:01Speaker 4: Well, one, it's important to point out that he does
- 4:03Speaker 4: play at Omaha Central, so he is a in state recruit,
- 4:08Speaker 4: So I think that he helps. I don't know. I
- 4:14Speaker 4: guess my initial reaction is, one, is class twenty twenty seven,
- 4:18Speaker 4: so there's still a lot of time for me to
- 4:20Speaker 4: either flame out and not be a five star. I
- 4:24Speaker 4: don't know what the likelihood of that is, or two
- 4:30Speaker 4: change his commitment, which I think is a much higher likelihood.
- 4:32Speaker 4: I mean, there's still two more years for him to
- 4:34Speaker 4: be poached away for some other schools. So I think
- 4:38Speaker 4: it's good that we're able to, you know, at least
- 4:45Speaker 4: convince someone. I don't know how much of the hometown
- 4:47Speaker 4: discount we got, you know, if he was from Minnesota.
- 4:52Speaker 4: Is he still choosing Nebraska. I don't know, but I
- 4:56Speaker 4: mean good for rule. We'll see. I don't really know
- 5:00Speaker 4: the impact of a five star safety is. I'm sure
- 5:03Speaker 4: it's good, but I just know I don't know.
- 5:07Speaker 2: Football football, especially in the state, you have to keep
- 5:12Speaker 2: those five star cruits in house because especially the only
- 5:16Speaker 2: D one program, because basketball doesn't really matter if you
- 5:18Speaker 2: got you got Creating all those other D one, but
- 5:21Speaker 2: football you have to keep him in house.
- 5:25Speaker 1: Well I'd love to keep basketball in house too, but.
- 5:27Speaker 2: Yeah, but it's it's it's a lot hard with creaton there.
- 5:34Speaker 2: The safety position. I was thinking, I was thinking about this,
- 5:38Speaker 2: he probably.
- 5:40Speaker 3: Yep.
- 5:41Speaker 2: Do you think he could be like a Travis Hunter type,
- 5:44Speaker 2: like an athlete?
- 5:47Speaker 1: Potentially? He It sounds like he does play. He played
- 5:52Speaker 1: plays receiver in high school too, and he's got good hands.
- 5:55Speaker 1: So now will will he play both sides of the ball?
- 5:57Speaker 1: Probably not but he might even switch to this offense. Well,
- 6:02Speaker 1: he could. I would anticipate, you know, given that he's
- 6:07Speaker 1: listing himself as a safety that's that's probably where he
- 6:10Speaker 1: wants to continue his collegiate career at. But yeah, I
- 6:15Speaker 1: do think it's important to keep those guys here when
- 6:20Speaker 1: you got him right. I think a lot of people
- 6:22Speaker 1: recently Iowa State has been poaching the Omaha type of
- 6:28Speaker 1: kids and other small towns around the area. That's kind
- 6:31Speaker 1: of been the the topic here over the last year
- 6:35Speaker 1: or two. So I when I think, I think this, like,
- 6:40Speaker 1: you got to get guys, and you got to make
- 6:42Speaker 1: sure you're getting the right guys. If you're keeping guys around,
- 6:44Speaker 1: and you got to bring in big time guys. If
- 6:47Speaker 1: if the message is we got to compete with not
- 6:50Speaker 1: just the Minnesota's and Iowa's and Wisconsin's old we got
- 6:55Speaker 1: to compete with the Ohio states, Oregons, Penn States. Like
- 6:58Speaker 1: if we want to get to that point, like you
- 7:00Speaker 1: got to bring in highly recruited guys. Now we've talked
- 7:02Speaker 1: about it a lot. Recruiting stars don't mean jack shit
- 7:05Speaker 1: unless they actually produce on the field and you got
- 7:09Speaker 1: to develop them, use them the right way. Recruiting recruiting stars. Yeah,
- 7:13Speaker 1: they're great, Like it's fun to talk about, fun to
- 7:16Speaker 1: hype up, but you have to produce and show that
- 7:19Speaker 1: they're worth that. Like you said, Austin, they it's a
- 7:22Speaker 1: long time. But now and then so PROBA don't want
- 7:24Speaker 1: to jump the gun and get too excited. But at
- 7:26Speaker 1: the same time, and it's always not it's.
- 7:28Speaker 4: Not bad news, but it's good to get a win. Yes,
- 7:32Speaker 4: and you know, well add like now that they're committed
- 7:38Speaker 4: in their in state, I imagine they'll get some more
- 7:42Speaker 4: you know, guidance from the Nebraska coaching staff. This is
- 7:48Speaker 4: a development.
- 7:49Speaker 2: It's nothing though that they're gonna have to They're gonna
- 7:53Speaker 2: have to throw some money at him because other schools
- 7:55Speaker 2: are gonna start coming in with offers and not decide
- 7:59Speaker 2: to see how much money will you throw out this
- 8:01Speaker 2: guy to keep him because he's he's gonna get Bama's
- 8:05Speaker 2: gonna did Bama offer him yet? Schools like Bama are
- 8:10Speaker 2: They're gonna start throwing money at him.
- 8:12Speaker 1: Basically, yeah, I know nothing from Alabama and the big
- 8:17Speaker 1: ones you know, Oregon, Penn State, Yeah, Michigan, Michigan, Miami, LSU.
- 8:25Speaker 1: You got your local Florida state, so Colorado, I think
- 8:30Speaker 1: I think a lot of people too like that. I mean,
- 8:32Speaker 1: that's just the name of the game, right, Money's gonna
- 8:35Speaker 1: get thrown off the table, and you get to start
- 8:37Speaker 1: evaluating high school kids. Are they worth X and whether
- 8:44Speaker 1: you like it or not. That is where we are
- 8:48Speaker 1: at in college sports. And now there's a little bit.
- 8:52Speaker 4: Of a limit.
- 8:52Speaker 1: You know, there's gonna be more rules and guidelines that
- 8:56Speaker 1: you have to follow, and so yeah, you you do
- 8:58Speaker 1: have that to consider. Getting a commitment already is a
- 9:02Speaker 1: is a jump start because he whatever was discussed shows
- 9:06Speaker 1: that you know, both parties are in agreeance to that.
- 9:10Speaker 1: So now things can obviously change before they enroll. But
- 9:13Speaker 1: that's always like a good thing that there's some sort
- 9:16Speaker 1: of commit commitment to what was decided.
- 9:21Speaker 4: So it's good, it's it's a good it's a good thing.
- 9:25Speaker 4: I'm not trying to be negative knowing about it.
- 9:27Speaker 5: It's good.
- 9:28Speaker 2: But your TV you have right now flip three times
- 9:30Speaker 2: before he came to Nebraska.
- 9:32Speaker 4: So qbs are probably a little different than most other positions.
- 9:35Speaker 1: Though, yeah, a little.
- 9:37Speaker 4: More money thrown out of QB than a safety.
- 9:42Speaker 1: I mentioned, you know, competing with Minnesota, Iowa and those
- 9:49Speaker 1: kind of schools and taking that next step. So one
- 9:51Speaker 1: one other topic I want to talk about today too,
- 9:53Speaker 1: is is just the similarities and differences that Nebraska as
- 10:01Speaker 1: to some of these closer Big ten programs. I think
- 10:08Speaker 1: there's some things that you maybe wish we had or
- 10:13Speaker 1: we have done, and then there's things that you don't
- 10:16Speaker 1: want to settle for because you have better, bigger and
- 10:18Speaker 1: better aspirations of the program. But that being said, Minnesota
- 10:23Speaker 1: and Iowa it kind of dominated us from the scoreboards
- 10:27Speaker 1: standpoint over the past handful of years, and some would
- 10:33Speaker 1: say that their style there, the way they're doing things
- 10:39Speaker 1: is what Nebraska should be doing. A heck, even Rule
- 10:44Speaker 1: I think made that comment when he got here, was
- 10:47Speaker 1: I love Iowa, wanting to Iowa correct, wanting wanting to
- 10:50Speaker 1: be like be like Iowa, wanting to do what Iowa does.
- 10:53Speaker 1: We can beat you know, beat them. I think being
- 10:57Speaker 1: so close to these programs, I think it's a good
- 10:59Speaker 1: place to start and talk about. Like what one I
- 11:04Speaker 1: was ask you what do you guys like what do
- 11:07Speaker 1: you like about Minnesota and Iowa.
- 11:10Speaker 4: Specifically? I would say for Iowa's a consistency. I mean
- 11:13Speaker 4: they're not you know what you're gonna get, like your
- 11:18Speaker 4: your floor is pretty high.
- 11:19Speaker 1: In Iowa.
- 11:20Speaker 4: It's like, we're gonna have a really good defense. We're
- 11:23Speaker 4: gonna be competitive in almost all of our games. And
- 11:29Speaker 4: that's how it's gonna work. You know, some years we're
- 11:31Speaker 4: gonna have a decent offense. We're gonna bump up a
- 11:33Speaker 4: little bit. Some years our offensive goes really bad. We
- 11:35Speaker 4: might get closer to that floor, but we're gonna get
- 11:41Speaker 4: you seven eight wins, maybe we'll bump out for a
- 11:43Speaker 4: nine or ten win season.
- 11:46Speaker 2: Shitty quarterback play.
- 11:48Speaker 4: Never will be shitty quarterback play.
- 11:50Speaker 2: I as a fan, I would hate I personally would
- 11:54Speaker 2: hate that existent consistency because they have no ceiling like
- 12:00Speaker 2: a wise or championship lies like you never playing that
- 12:04Speaker 2: style football, you never win a championship. And it's the same,
- 12:07Speaker 2: it's the same thing every year. You you know what,
- 12:09Speaker 2: you're gonna get eight nine wins and also visually what
- 12:14Speaker 2: I would just hate watching it.
- 12:17Speaker 1: By I've dak I will say, you're very boring as
- 12:24Speaker 1: a fan. When they have their breakout years. The argument
- 12:29Speaker 1: against that is though like they Iowa has, they've they've
- 12:32Speaker 1: had years they've gone ten and two, eleven and one.
- 12:36Speaker 1: Maybe because you're a generous schedule, but I mean that
- 12:40Speaker 1: that's getting me in the playoffs. Now are they going
- 12:43Speaker 1: to win anything with that? I don't know, probably not.
- 12:47Speaker 4: The playoffs system definitely changes the appreciation for Iowa because now,
- 12:51Speaker 4: like because they usually end in the top twenty five,
- 12:55Speaker 4: usually in the twenty to fifty, you know, the twenty
- 12:57Speaker 4: to ten range. But now with the playoffs it spans
- 13:01Speaker 4: the sixteen teams. I think now you're you're pretty much in.
- 13:06Speaker 2: H But basically I think a lot compared to Thebratica.
- 13:14Speaker 2: So thebrath coums in every year like we're gonna make
- 13:17Speaker 2: we're gonna make the playoffs, and like have all his hype.
- 13:20Speaker 2: Iowa fans don't, like, you can't, you can't get hyped.
- 13:24Speaker 5: You could get hyped out.
- 13:25Speaker 2: You're like, yeah, we're gonna make nine wins. Same thing.
- 13:27Speaker 4: Yeah, but that's because they know, like we're getting hyped
- 13:29Speaker 4: because like we're gonna win eight games, We're gonna win
- 13:31Speaker 4: nine games this year. They don't. They don't get hyped
- 13:33Speaker 4: about that because that's what they're used to.
- 13:35Speaker 2: Yeah, I would hate.
- 13:39Speaker 1: It that see that. That's where I I mean Husker
- 13:44Speaker 1: Husker fans say that too. It's style of plays boring.
- 13:47Speaker 1: You don't you're never gonna win anything. Well, Ship they
- 13:50Speaker 1: beat us every year like right, wait, wait, we're out
- 13:54Speaker 1: of position now where.
- 13:57Speaker 5: You know.
- 13:57Speaker 1: I do think we are trying to get to that
- 14:00Speaker 1: level of consistency and Austin you mentioned like how Iowas
- 14:03Speaker 1: never gets blown out. Really they're in every game, close games,
- 14:05Speaker 1: and they find a way to win them. I think
- 14:07Speaker 1: we're getting closer to being in a lot of games.
- 14:11Speaker 1: Like I don't think that the program that we have
- 14:15Speaker 1: now is going to see many blowouts, hopefully knock on woods.
- 14:20Speaker 1: So I think we're from that aspect, we're getting there. Obviously,
- 14:23Speaker 1: the style of plays different. But I will say this
- 14:27Speaker 1: year and the things I've been here, in addition to
- 14:30Speaker 1: what Dat's already brought up. This Gernowski kid from South
- 14:34Speaker 1: Dakota State, like he sounds legit, like he's a dual
- 14:37Speaker 1: threat guy. He has a forty nine and six college record. Now,
- 14:41Speaker 1: obviously it's FCS, but it sounds like it's not going
- 14:45Speaker 1: to be the Deacon Hills of the world. In those
- 14:48Speaker 1: kind of quarterbacks where they get nothing out of them.
- 14:52Speaker 1: This guy. Sounds like he could elevate their offense a
- 14:55Speaker 1: little bit. And you know, whether you want to call
- 14:57Speaker 1: it boring or whatever. And who knows what Kirk this
- 15:00Speaker 1: is going to do with them? Uh right, that could
- 15:04Speaker 1: have given a dark horse to get the playoffs.
- 15:07Speaker 4: They might have like, yeah, it's one of those things.
- 15:09Speaker 4: You don't know those Okay, now that they have a
- 15:11Speaker 4: town quarterback, they're going to be able to call for
- 15:13Speaker 4: it because they've never had you know, I mean, they've
- 15:16Speaker 4: had decent players in the past, but what are they calling.
- 15:19Speaker 4: I mean, I don't know they got a new offensive
- 15:21Speaker 4: coordinator two years ago or last year.
- 15:24Speaker 1: Last year the Western Michigan guy.
- 15:26Speaker 4: Yeah, so I don't know. I will say, when comparing
- 15:29Speaker 4: in Iowa and Minnesota, I'd rather be Iowa. I feel
- 15:32Speaker 4: like Minnesota kind of kind of like a lower step
- 15:35Speaker 4: below Iowa. They're still super consistent, but now it's more
- 15:38Speaker 4: of a their ceiling is lower than Iowa because they
- 15:41Speaker 4: aren't quite as good in every level.
- 15:43Speaker 1: Correct, but also a team but also for the most
- 15:47Speaker 1: part as kicked our ass recently. Another team that's close
- 15:51Speaker 1: that we just can't seem to get over the hump
- 15:54Speaker 1: on and like PJ Fleck or not. He built a culture.
- 16:02Speaker 1: Now is that Row the Boat narrative Maybe a little
- 16:06Speaker 1: stale after several years maybe, but he's got he's got
- 16:10Speaker 1: that program too to a place that I'm not gonna
- 16:13Speaker 1: call him as consistent as Iowa. But they're probably gonna
- 16:16Speaker 1: win six games, yeah, yeah, probably making a Bowl game,
- 16:18Speaker 1: and they're probably going somewhere between six and eight win
- 16:23Speaker 1: So it again, this goes back to what do you
- 16:27Speaker 1: want as a fan? Is that the starting point? Do
- 16:32Speaker 1: you want to be building something now so that that
- 16:36Speaker 1: doesn't happen? Not that you can ultimately control that, but
- 16:41Speaker 1: I think what they've done as programs we need to
- 16:44Speaker 1: be taking pieces from because they that's where we need
- 16:47Speaker 1: to start, Like, we need to get to that point first,
- 16:49Speaker 1: and we're not there now. Last year, great, we won
- 16:51Speaker 1: six games, seven with the bowl game. Great as a start,
- 16:55Speaker 1: but it's not like, I mean, if we could, it's
- 16:58Speaker 1: not like we're gonna consistently be come a ten win
- 17:01Speaker 1: team year after a year all of a sudden. Moving forward,
- 17:04Speaker 1: I don't think maybe we will and we'll just surpass
- 17:07Speaker 1: the eight and four years, but I think there's there's
- 17:12Speaker 1: things to be taken away from these programs that are
- 17:15Speaker 1: beating us. Let's start there, like, you can't. That's what's
- 17:18Speaker 1: hard for me. You can't talk shit and and say
- 17:22Speaker 1: like that's saying how moore. It's hard for me to
- 17:24Speaker 1: ever say that to Iowa fans and laugh at them
- 17:26Speaker 1: because they beat us every year and regardless of how
- 17:29Speaker 1: that happens. Last year was the prime example of just
- 17:34Speaker 1: the ugliest win that you can ever have.
- 17:38Speaker 2: They won.
- 17:42Speaker 1: There's been several of them.
- 17:44Speaker 4: I mean, the question is is prior to this year
- 17:48Speaker 4: and ship maybe this year, at what point would you
- 17:51Speaker 4: have not switched places with Iowa over the last ten years?
- 17:59Speaker 2: You wouldn't. Right last day, maybe Mike Riley year, But
- 18:05Speaker 2: there's nothing. Yeah, there's no point where you wouldn't switch
- 18:10Speaker 2: spots to Isola. I guess I don't. But here's the
- 18:14Speaker 2: here's the point of the two pro two programs. Minnesota
- 18:17Speaker 2: Nebraska where they're at PG. Fleck is on a pretty
- 18:22Speaker 2: hot seat for winning six seven games there and Matt
- 18:25Speaker 2: Rule is getting all hyped up because Nebraska won six games.
- 18:29Speaker 1: Finally, that's just a difference in expectations and the consistency
- 18:34Speaker 1: that what's been on. And I've said p J Flag
- 18:37Speaker 1: maybe not hot hot seat, but I think you're right.
- 18:41Speaker 1: I think Iowa they don't give a ship. They love
- 18:45Speaker 1: Kirk Farnce.
- 18:47Speaker 2: He's gonna be there for life. Yeah. And maybe maybe
- 18:50Speaker 2: those maybe Iowa fans, I don't know you around them,
- 18:52Speaker 2: maybe they're cool. If the winning eight nine games every
- 18:55Speaker 2: year and being that consistent they are, I.
- 18:58Speaker 1: Think they do it and why not the like tell me,
- 19:01Speaker 1: especially now with the playoffs, Tell me why that's not
- 19:04Speaker 1: eight or nine wins with a one every four year
- 19:08Speaker 1: chance to make a run in the playoffs like that.
- 19:11Speaker 1: Not saying that that's where I want to land and
- 19:13Speaker 1: end up and be there, but like right now for us,
- 19:16Speaker 1: that'd be phenomenal, Like for where we've been.
- 19:19Speaker 4: I mean we felt like I feel it's say, I
- 19:21Speaker 4: felt like they were a quarterback away the last couple
- 19:23Speaker 4: of years. So all you need to get is one guy.
- 19:25Speaker 4: I mean it would be like, oh crap, like we
- 19:27Speaker 4: might be able to win one or two more games
- 19:29Speaker 4: and all contenders.
- 19:31Speaker 2: Yeah did you did you guys see Grunk Caskier? Have
- 19:33Speaker 2: you say his name? Stats? In spring game?
- 19:37Speaker 4: I did, but I remember being pretty good.
- 19:40Speaker 2: No, it was he was nine to twenty one with
- 19:42Speaker 2: two fund with snaps where his fault. Yeah, he just
- 19:48Speaker 2: straight up dropped him like they went twenty yards behind him. Yeah,
- 19:53Speaker 2: so maybe not so all this hype. I guess that'd
- 19:56Speaker 2: be that'd be still a quarterby play for Iowa.
- 19:58Speaker 6: But yeah, I don't know what they literally what was
- 20:05Speaker 6: it a couple of years ago they hit through it
- 20:07Speaker 6: less than ten times against US?
- 20:09Speaker 4: I don't remember.
- 20:09Speaker 2: It's really well with all fat boy.
- 20:13Speaker 4: Yeah, and they still almost won. They might have won.
- 20:17Speaker 4: I don't even remember they did win. They did win.
- 20:20Speaker 3: They had six completions and we lost. Yeah, so who cares.
- 20:26Speaker 3: We we've been down that road. Last last thing here
- 20:30Speaker 3: before we get to our interview. Starting to look at
- 20:33Speaker 3: the weather forecast here since we're a week.
- 20:35Speaker 1: Out and you know, small chance of rain, but out
- 20:41Speaker 1: of any day in the next ten days, we got
- 20:43Speaker 1: a little bit of rain forecasted. So I have seventy
- 20:47Speaker 1: two in Kansas City, so little, little chillier fall day.
- 20:59Speaker 4: I feel like get favors Cincinnati if I had to guess,
- 21:04Speaker 4: you know, if you're the less talented team, you would
- 21:07Speaker 4: want the the game to be slower and muckier and
- 21:11Speaker 4: lower scoring. Great weather for a fan, though, I mean
- 21:17Speaker 4: it's still gaming. Whether if it's if it stays dry long.
- 21:20Speaker 2: Enough, Yeah, that's it's gonna be perfect weather. I don't.
- 21:25Speaker 2: I don't think it favors either team the weather wise
- 21:28Speaker 2: and this if it's perfect weather, it's not gonna affect
- 21:31Speaker 2: the game at all. I think there was one point
- 21:35Speaker 2: I wanted to ask about this game though, and I
- 21:37Speaker 2: was talking to him either body last night as we
- 21:42Speaker 2: closer as the game, everyone saying Cincinnati is no shot?
- 21:46Speaker 2: Is that making you guys more nervous as you get closer?
- 21:51Speaker 4: I'm nervous.
- 21:51Speaker 1: Who's who's everyone? The people last night last night?
- 21:58Speaker 2: Many times I.
- 22:01Speaker 1: Don't, I mean that that's Husker fans, right, That's that's
- 22:03Speaker 1: what we do. We we we just say Cincinnati is
- 22:06Speaker 1: bad when we know nothing about Cincinnati. We have no
- 22:10Speaker 1: insight besides the couple of comments that we probably hear
- 22:13Speaker 1: amongst ourselves.
- 22:14Speaker 4: In last year's record, in last year's record.
- 22:17Speaker 1: Yeah, that's that's what people do, is they look at
- 22:18Speaker 1: last year's record and keep in mind, Cincinnati beat Arizona
- 22:23Speaker 1: State last year, who was pretty good, and they shut
- 22:27Speaker 1: out Houston. Houston wasn't great, but it shut them out.
- 22:30Speaker 2: Like it.
- 22:32Speaker 3: Is.
- 22:32Speaker 1: It's funny, Dak, You're right, everybody's discount or discrediting Cincinnati.
- 22:39Speaker 2: I'm scared, like and you know they're hearing that Cincinnati.
- 22:45Speaker 1: Is maybe I don't know, just like I mean, we don't.
- 22:48Speaker 1: I don't. I don't follow Cincinnati media and and and
- 22:52Speaker 1: news and that religiously. Like I'm guessing majority of them
- 22:56Speaker 1: are not doing the same.
- 22:59Speaker 2: No, I'm mean, I I said, look up who their
- 23:02Speaker 2: quarterback was. I don't even I know, we know nothing
- 23:04Speaker 2: about saying now.
- 23:06Speaker 1: Yeah, so you mentioned that the other day, which hit me.
- 23:08Speaker 1: Brendan Soresby's been there for five years, like like he's
- 23:12Speaker 1: he's maybe not there, but he's played college fotball for
- 23:15Speaker 1: five years and he's been at Cincinnati for the past
- 23:17Speaker 1: couple He like has experience, and from what I've heard
- 23:22Speaker 1: from a national side of things, they're they're going to
- 23:25Speaker 1: try to run the ball more and like Austin said,
- 23:27Speaker 1: muck it up and.
- 23:29Speaker 4: Rain tends to help its.
- 23:32Speaker 1: Me, it does that. I do think the weather scares
- 23:35Speaker 1: me a little bit more depending on what we're trying
- 23:37Speaker 1: to do on offense, maybe it'll quote unquote force us
- 23:41Speaker 1: to run the ball more than what we were planning
- 23:44Speaker 1: on doing, but which is good for us. By the
- 23:47Speaker 1: way Ashag run the ball, I don't know from a
- 23:54Speaker 1: game standpoint, Like again, it just scared. It scares me
- 23:56Speaker 1: like I'd rather be perfect weather because I think we
- 23:59Speaker 1: have better fully the better players. Don't know that from anything,
- 24:04Speaker 1: but we're favored by six and a half. That's probably
- 24:05Speaker 1: what I'm going off of.
- 24:08Speaker 4: Well, that we're just a bigger program. We spend more money.
- 24:11Speaker 4: It's to assume that raw talent wise, we should have
- 24:14Speaker 4: better talented players.
- 24:17Speaker 2: Once they if they drive down that field, because that
- 24:19Speaker 2: place to be rocking a kick, drive down that field
- 24:21Speaker 2: and score first. That place is gonna be you can
- 24:24Speaker 2: hear a pin dropping there.
- 24:27Speaker 4: It won't happen, Dack, it won't happen. Imagine if we
- 24:32Speaker 4: go out there and four and out, Jacorey takes the
- 24:35Speaker 4: punt to the house that place, that's what I want.
- 24:41Speaker 4: I love.
- 24:42Speaker 3: Everybody's trying to predict and think what the game is
- 24:45Speaker 3: gonna look like.
- 24:46Speaker 1: I'm thinking people might do a zip line and the
- 24:49Speaker 1: tailgating scene down there, and you know, I think people
- 24:51Speaker 1: are trying to make plans and and it's it's gonna
- 24:55Speaker 1: be chaos, guys, it's you can make plans, but I
- 24:58Speaker 1: think it's gonna just be a free for all and
- 25:01Speaker 1: it's gonna be fun that way. Those are sometimes the
- 25:04Speaker 1: best games to go to. You just hope that the
- 25:07Speaker 1: product on the field and the outcome of the game
- 25:09Speaker 1: ends well, so the whole experience can be a positive one,
- 25:15Speaker 1: because who gives a shit about everything else? If we
- 25:18Speaker 1: come out there out of the game and we lose,
- 25:19Speaker 1: like that just ain't gonna be fun. And you're right,
- 25:23Speaker 1: people are saying Cincinnati is not great and it's gonna
- 25:26Speaker 1: be a cakewalk on like oh people like it right, yeah,
- 25:35Speaker 1: like which that was with Fickle. But anyways, all right,
- 25:40Speaker 1: well we're gonna get to our interview here with Brandal
- 25:43Speaker 1: Rickenberg and talk some case states. Iowa State's weak zero.
- 25:53Speaker 7: We're here with Brandal Rickenberg, my brother in law wanted
- 25:57Speaker 7: Dax's longtime friends Case State Wildcat fan, most importantly as
- 26:04Speaker 7: the Cats take on the Cyclones over in Dublin, Ireland
- 26:11Speaker 7: in week zero on Saturday, eleven am kick local time.
- 26:16Speaker 1: Here in the Midwest, Randall, you probably have been on
- 26:23Speaker 1: just nerves and everything this week. You know, we're waiting
- 26:26Speaker 1: one more week for that. We're not the Case State
- 26:29Speaker 1: fans that you are we might claim to be at
- 26:30Speaker 1: some time as we're all wearing our Case State gear.
- 26:35Speaker 5: That's the uh, that's the Adrian Martinez effect. We'll go
- 26:37Speaker 5: at that for Uster Nation. But yeah, no, fired up.
- 26:42Speaker 5: I'm getting all the podcasting I can in listening to
- 26:45Speaker 5: listening to the k State podcast. Got one in this morning,
- 26:48Speaker 5: so yeah, no, I my my my heart gets rising
- 26:52Speaker 5: a little bit when I when I get to listen
- 26:53Speaker 5: to them, because I mean we're two days away, so
- 26:56Speaker 5: it got here fast.
- 26:57Speaker 1: What's the go to k State podcast?
- 27:01Speaker 5: Bosco's Boys is a big one. That's that's like a
- 27:04Speaker 5: really big one that I listened to mostly. And then
- 27:06Speaker 5: the KSO Show. They do a lot of pre and
- 27:09Speaker 5: post game stuff, so that's where you kind of find
- 27:11Speaker 5: that stuff out. But yeah, those are those are my
- 27:14Speaker 5: my two main go to ones.
- 27:18Speaker 1: Well, what is the outlook here this week for KSE
- 27:23Speaker 1: state Iowa State? You know, we we know what we've
- 27:26Speaker 1: probably seen on TV, but what what's what's the preview
- 27:29Speaker 1: look like? KSE State's a three and a half point
- 27:32Speaker 1: favorite now I think is the last I've seen. I
- 27:35Speaker 1: do know that Iowa State and Matt Campbell has owned
- 27:40Speaker 1: Chris Climban since he's been at case State. I believe
- 27:43Speaker 1: he's four and one, five and zero against the spread,
- 27:46Speaker 1: but KSE State is favored going across the water.
- 27:51Speaker 5: Yeah, last win for case State was Adrian Martinez ten
- 27:57Speaker 5: to nine in Ames, so that was that was real,
- 28:01Speaker 5: real good game. But no, I think they're pretty evenly matched.
- 28:05Speaker 5: Kind of the spread probably favors that two two pretty
- 28:10Speaker 5: quarterback heavy Avery Johnson and rock O Beecked. But ultimately
- 28:16Speaker 5: I guess we'll probably get to the later stuff, but
- 28:18Speaker 5: I think whoever takes care of the ball is gonna
- 28:20Speaker 5: win the game. Ireland just kind of like the uh,
- 28:24Speaker 5: the British Open and golf. It's it's it's a it's
- 28:27Speaker 5: a weather battle over there, and there's I know there's
- 28:29Speaker 5: a chance of rain in the forecast, but yeah, it's
- 28:33Speaker 5: gonna be it's gonna be a blood bath and two
- 28:36Speaker 5: of the top teams in the Big twelve. So I
- 28:39Speaker 5: don't know, I'm excited, nervous, but if I if I
- 28:42Speaker 5: wasn't nervous, it means I don't care, right, So.
- 28:45Speaker 2: Yeah, first ever ranked versus the rank game in Ireland.
- 28:50Speaker 2: What what are your thoughts on and this is wise too.
- 28:55Speaker 2: What are your thoughts on playing a tough opponent in
- 28:57Speaker 2: your first game of the year. Do you like that
- 28:58Speaker 2: or not crazy?
- 29:00Speaker 5: I'm indifferent about it, but I think it's a good
- 29:05Speaker 5: test to start the year. Plus I one of my
- 29:07Speaker 5: things that I do like about it is both teams
- 29:11Speaker 5: come into it healthy. Normally, normally Farmageddon ends the year
- 29:15Speaker 5: and they it's it's always a battle on health a
- 29:18Speaker 5: lot of the time. But I don't know, starting the
- 29:21Speaker 5: year healthy, two teams playing each other, I think it'll
- 29:23Speaker 5: be great. And I love being the first game of
- 29:26Speaker 5: the year. I think that's awesome. Everybody's watching you.
- 29:30Speaker 1: Yeah, I sometimes I don't know. I go back and
- 29:33Speaker 1: forth on it because I was in Nebraska played Northwestern
- 29:36Speaker 1: over there. Conference game wasn't like a Big Ten conference
- 29:40Speaker 1: game this year for this one. I mean, these are
- 29:43Speaker 1: two teams that could be towards the top or if not,
- 29:47Speaker 1: at the top of the Big Twelve standings. And you
- 29:50Speaker 1: don't want to say that this could have major implications
- 29:52Speaker 1: on who plays in the conference title game, but it could.
- 29:57Speaker 1: And the hard part about that at the Big Twelve
- 30:01Speaker 1: is there. We talked about it in our win total
- 30:04Speaker 1: or win predictions everybody's between like five and a half
- 30:06Speaker 1: and eight and a half. So it's the Big Twelve
- 30:09Speaker 1: is just a free for all. Obviously you might have
- 30:11Speaker 1: KSE State, you know, towards the top of that being
- 30:14Speaker 1: the KSE State fan, But what are who are some
- 30:16Speaker 1: other Big twelve teams that you're looking at watching that
- 30:19Speaker 1: you know, competing for that top spot. Because I think
- 30:20Speaker 1: KSE State is the the preseason favorite to win the conference,
- 30:24Speaker 1: but it's not by much.
- 30:26Speaker 5: Yeah I would. I think it's Case State's at the top. Obviously,
- 30:30Speaker 5: yeah bias because I'm a k State fan, but Iowa
- 30:33Speaker 5: State's right there. They got some experience both sides of
- 30:36Speaker 5: the ball. Now they lost some some big threats on
- 30:38Speaker 5: the on the outside, but they I they have the experience,
- 30:43Speaker 5: so I'm I'm not gonna go against them. I do
- 30:45Speaker 5: like Matt Campbell as a coach. Texas Tech is an
- 30:48Speaker 5: interesting one. I have not bought in the hype of
- 30:52Speaker 5: of just buying buying your team. I don't know if
- 30:56Speaker 5: that's the way to go. Maybe it'll work for him,
- 30:59Speaker 5: but I I don't see them as the as the
- 31:02Speaker 5: top dog threat. Maybe I guess we'll say I don't.
- 31:07Speaker 5: I don't like having to play Utah this year. I
- 31:09Speaker 5: know that Utah scares me and I I think they
- 31:13Speaker 5: could maybe make a push. But other than that, I'm
- 31:17Speaker 5: trying to think. I don't I could be missing somebody.
- 31:20Speaker 5: If you guys think of somebody, Yeah, Arizona State, I
- 31:24Speaker 5: think they'll be right there. I don't. I don't think
- 31:25Speaker 5: they'll be what they were last year. I think Cam
- 31:29Speaker 5: Scattabo was was way too much to that team. Who
- 31:33Speaker 5: they replace him with, I'm not sure, but uh yeah,
- 31:36Speaker 5: that'll be That'll be one that they'll be up there.
- 31:38Speaker 5: But I would probably go Case State, Iowa State, and
- 31:41Speaker 5: then I think Utah will be there in the end.
- 31:46Speaker 2: That was Yeah, I had my big, big full title
- 31:49Speaker 2: game is the first game of the year here in
- 31:52Speaker 2: Case Iowa State. I think I think those their top
- 31:54Speaker 2: two teams. So what is what are you looking for?
- 32:00Speaker 2: Avery and Avery Johnson improved the most this year.
- 32:04Speaker 5: I think it's got to be his running. I he
- 32:07Speaker 5: now I say that, and he and there's a lot
- 32:10Speaker 5: of teams who would kill the have what he what
- 32:13Speaker 5: case they had last year with him running. But all
- 32:17Speaker 5: I've heard this offseason is he's put on eighteen pounds
- 32:20Speaker 5: of muscle. He's gonna be able to run it more.
- 32:24Speaker 5: He's looking to run it more.
- 32:26Speaker 2: Uh.
- 32:26Speaker 5: Connor Riley, our our half O C last year, our
- 32:30Speaker 5: co O C last year left went to the Cowboys
- 32:33Speaker 5: for for to be the O line coach. So Matt
- 32:36Speaker 5: Campbell's kind of taken the helm by himself, and I
- 32:40Speaker 5: think they will look to to run more with just Avery.
- 32:45Speaker 5: I think it might be a split. They got. They
- 32:47Speaker 5: got a two guy backfield. Dylan Edwards is obviously very explosive,
- 32:51Speaker 5: but I think Avery's gonna run it a lot more
- 32:55Speaker 5: than he did last year. Designed or undesigned either way.
- 33:00Speaker 1: And just as a very casual KSE State man. I
- 33:03Speaker 1: you know, I think that's a strength their team. And
- 33:05Speaker 1: Avery is a very mobile guy. So as you're preparing
- 33:09Speaker 1: for k State this year, you know, I think that's
- 33:11Speaker 1: the first thing you want to stop is the quarterback
- 33:12Speaker 1: run game. But also Billan Edwards being very explosive. What
- 33:15Speaker 1: do they have then on the outside at receiver guys
- 33:19Speaker 1: coming back, new guys coming in?
- 33:21Speaker 5: Yeah, So they they returned Jace Brown. Jace Brown, He'll
- 33:25Speaker 5: be a big one. He's he kind of underperformed early
- 33:28Speaker 5: last year and kind of started to pick it up.
- 33:29Speaker 5: Had a big catch against touchdown against Colorado. I think
- 33:32Speaker 5: he actually had two, but had a big one late,
- 33:35Speaker 5: and then he had a couple other big games, but
- 33:37Speaker 5: they got drawn Tibbs from Purdue, I believe. I don't
- 33:43Speaker 5: know if you guys, did you guys play Perdue last year?
- 33:46Speaker 1: Yes, one of our wins sewn Tibbs.
- 33:48Speaker 5: But so he's the he's the one that they're really
- 33:51Speaker 5: talking about in camp and they they are really high
- 33:55Speaker 5: on him, and then drawn Bradley from Boston College, so
- 34:01Speaker 5: he was Tech and then call Boston College. So he's
- 34:04Speaker 5: he's kind of the third slot right now. But I
- 34:07Speaker 5: would if I was an opponent, I would be very
- 34:10Speaker 5: worried about the tight end room. They returned four tight
- 34:14Speaker 5: ends who all caught two or more touchdowns last year,
- 34:17Speaker 5: and they have a five star tight end who I guess.
- 34:21Speaker 5: A little side note, I do you guys know that
- 34:23Speaker 5: you have to report every Wednesday your your injury report
- 34:26Speaker 5: this year?
- 34:27Speaker 1: I did not know that.
- 34:28Speaker 5: Maybe it's just a big twelve thing. I don't think
- 34:30Speaker 5: it is, but just came out and they're the five
- 34:33Speaker 5: star tight end. He's actually out for for Iowa State.
- 34:36Speaker 5: So but still got still got the four tight ends
- 34:39Speaker 5: that I would be very very cautious of if I
- 34:43Speaker 5: was scouting in Kansas State.
- 34:47Speaker 2: All right, Well, since since I know you're big kool
- 34:49Speaker 2: aid drinker for Nebraska, let's slip to them. What are
- 34:52Speaker 2: your thoughts on how the season's going to go for
- 34:53Speaker 2: the Huskers.
- 34:55Speaker 5: I I think it's got to be very bright, I
- 35:00Speaker 5: I really do. I don't. I think similar to Kansas State.
- 35:03Speaker 5: I think if Dylan Ryola is a star, Nebraska will
- 35:07Speaker 5: be good. I think that's I think their their offense,
- 35:10Speaker 5: their team kind of revolves around him. He's got to
- 35:13Speaker 5: play well for for the uh for the machine to
- 35:17Speaker 5: to move. So but I I see, I see probably
- 35:21Speaker 5: nine and three is kind of where I'm at with them.
- 35:24Speaker 5: I think they have a very favorable schedule, but I mean,
- 35:28Speaker 5: you still gotta you gotta play every game. You gotta
- 35:30Speaker 5: win every game. That Now, will every game be a blowout, No,
- 35:34Speaker 5: But I think that they'll all be really good games.
- 35:37Speaker 5: But I think Nebraska gets it done this year. I
- 35:39Speaker 5: think they go to nine and three.
- 35:40Speaker 1: Nine and three. So they just just some general background too,
- 35:44Speaker 1: I guess for some of the listeners. As far as
- 35:48Speaker 1: k State football, goes and we are a Husker football podcast,
- 35:51Speaker 1: but there is a background and Raandal mentioned earlier why
- 35:55Speaker 1: we have some purple on and and Adrian Martinez was
- 35:58Speaker 1: a big part of that, leaving Nebraska to go to
- 36:01Speaker 1: k State for his last year. And I will say
- 36:06Speaker 1: we talked in our earlier session about how Iowa and
- 36:11Speaker 1: Minnesota and some of the things we liked and disliked
- 36:14Speaker 1: from their programs. K State's football program and being obviously
- 36:18Speaker 1: very close to Lincoln, how they model how Chris Climate
- 36:22Speaker 1: has done things over the past five years, Like it's
- 36:27Speaker 1: pretty impressive and there's a lot of things I think
- 36:32Speaker 1: that you can take away from Nebraska that you can
- 36:35Speaker 1: model after what Climate's done. And it's been fun to
- 36:37Speaker 1: follow and fun to watch. Now will I ever call
- 36:40Speaker 1: K State we and and claim I'm a K State fan, No,
- 36:45Speaker 1: not truly, but I do think they've been fun to watch,
- 36:48Speaker 1: and you know, I root for him, and I think
- 36:52Speaker 1: that it's kind of brandle where you're at with Nebraska.
- 36:56Speaker 1: Who You've been a case State fan your whole life,
- 36:59Speaker 1: but you've also lived in Nebraska and you've been around it.
- 37:03Speaker 1: You're familiar with what goes on and while at one
- 37:06Speaker 1: time Case State in Nebraska kind of were rivals and
- 37:09Speaker 1: you hated each other. You know, there's there's this level
- 37:12Speaker 1: of like I do I like it. I don't mind
- 37:13Speaker 1: K State. I don't mind wearing purple every so often now,
- 37:17Speaker 1: just like you probably don't mind wearing red.
- 37:19Speaker 5: Yeah that's right. I so, yeah, I was. My My
- 37:22Speaker 5: dad played football at K State, so that's where where
- 37:25Speaker 5: the K State comes for me. But my my mom
- 37:29Speaker 5: was a big is a big Husker fan, really anything Nebraska.
- 37:33Speaker 5: But she when I was little, she was used to
- 37:35Speaker 5: make a sweatshirt that said I am a Nebraska and
- 37:38Speaker 5: K State fan. They owned a sporting good story and
- 37:40Speaker 5: that thinking of it now it makes me sick to
- 37:43Speaker 5: my stomach. But but yeah, so I'm I'm a K
- 37:46Speaker 5: State fan. But after Nebraska left the Big Twelve, all
- 37:51Speaker 5: cheer for Nebraska any game unless they play K State.
- 37:53Speaker 5: I have no problem with that. I enjoy going up
- 37:56Speaker 5: to Memorial Stadium and it's it's a really nice atmosphere.
- 38:00Speaker 5: I I enjoy it. It gets rowdy. The Colorado game
- 38:03Speaker 5: last year was was awesome. But yeah, no, I I
- 38:08Speaker 5: I will be a Nebraska fan every time until they
- 38:10Speaker 5: play Case State.
- 38:13Speaker 1: What about thoughts on on Scott Bross is coming coming
- 38:17Speaker 1: to Manhattan. I know we're playing on going down to
- 38:19Speaker 1: the game. It's during our first bye week. Scott Ross
- 38:22Speaker 1: going to u c F coming to town. You know,
- 38:26Speaker 1: what are your thoughts there?
- 38:28Speaker 5: Good question, good question, great question. It is a it
- 38:33Speaker 5: is a very very playing with fire situation in my opinion,
- 38:38Speaker 5: especially the team that he's putting together, a lot of
- 38:43Speaker 5: a lot of junior college guys, is what I've heard,
- 38:45Speaker 5: and uh from experience with the transfer portal. Jerome Tang,
- 38:51Speaker 5: Kansas State's basketball coach, is a big transfer portal guy,
- 38:54Speaker 5: not necessarily recruit the high school recruit. I guess if
- 38:58Speaker 5: you want to say it is it is playing with fire.
- 39:01Speaker 5: So it could be a home run or it could
- 39:04Speaker 5: be an absolute strikeout. There is there is a very
- 39:07Speaker 5: high and very very low ceiling and.
- 39:11Speaker 1: Floor to beware the hust red in Bill Snyder Family Stadium.
- 39:17Speaker 5: And you, yes, people will think it's People will think
- 39:20Speaker 5: it's hilarious, especially especially that game. They will think it's
- 39:25Speaker 5: the funniest thing ever. Now they might make jokes like
- 39:28Speaker 5: you guys hired that guy, But no, I I think
- 39:32Speaker 5: people will laugh at it.
- 39:36Speaker 2: All right. Well, let's dive into it. You predict score,
- 39:39Speaker 2: prediction and how the game will go in Ireland, so
- 39:43Speaker 2: I have.
- 39:44Speaker 5: I have Again, I think the weather will play a factor.
- 39:46Speaker 5: I think there's a chance of rain in the forecast.
- 39:49Speaker 5: I think there. I don't know if it will be
- 39:51Speaker 5: the whole game, but I think there might be some weather.
- 39:55Speaker 5: I think it's gonna be who takes care of the
- 39:56Speaker 5: ball the best. But I think Case State gets it
- 39:59Speaker 5: done twenty four or fourteen. They got a new kicker
- 40:03Speaker 5: this year. I think I think it'll be twenty one
- 40:05Speaker 5: to fourteen, and I think kicker will give him a
- 40:08Speaker 5: give him a thirty seven yarder. If you want me
- 40:11Speaker 5: to be exact, to push it, push it late to
- 40:14Speaker 5: ten point lead, and I think it stays at that
- 40:16Speaker 5: throughout the rest.
- 40:17Speaker 2: Of the game.
- 40:20Speaker 1: Austin did take case State earlier when we were talking
- 40:24Speaker 1: about it. I mean, I have to too. I'll go
- 40:28Speaker 1: twenty to seventeen. I'm gonna go. I'm gonna go low
- 40:30Speaker 1: scoring as well. I think the Ireland game the past
- 40:33Speaker 1: few years have all been under games. Yeah, I think
- 40:37Speaker 1: it'll be I think it'll be a battle. I'm excited
- 40:39Speaker 1: to watch this game. Some of the games have been
- 40:42Speaker 1: I don't know, maybe not as hyped up this one.
- 40:44Speaker 1: I mean, like Dak said, two ranked teams, I'll go
- 40:47Speaker 1: twenty seventeen k State. I do think Brandle your point
- 40:52Speaker 1: about taking care of the ball. I mean, both teams
- 40:55Speaker 1: are gonna want to try to run the ball a lot,
- 40:58Speaker 1: and you know if you if you lose a possession
- 41:00Speaker 1: or two because you muff one up, I think that's
- 41:03Speaker 1: going to be a difference in this game. So yeah,
- 41:05Speaker 1: I agree twenty seventeen wockats. We did Austin give a
- 41:10Speaker 1: score prediction, did not just took Cai.
- 41:14Speaker 5: Just took case Date.
- 41:15Speaker 4: Gotcha.
- 41:16Speaker 2: Well, this is my lock of the week. I'm going
- 41:17Speaker 2: KSE State minus three. Oh gosh, I think just for you,
- 41:22Speaker 2: I think, uh, I think it'll be thirty one seventeen
- 41:25Speaker 2: KSE State And all comes down to I think Aary
- 41:28Speaker 2: Johnson's a lot better than Backs. I don't. I think
- 41:32Speaker 2: Back's a solid quarterback. There's a ceiling with him, though,
- 41:35Speaker 2: and I think I think having a full off season
- 41:38Speaker 2: to have avery to improve his accuracy and just a
- 41:41Speaker 2: just another year in their climbing. And that's another reason
- 41:44Speaker 2: why I'm thinking Case SID. I think climbing is a
- 41:46Speaker 2: lot better coach than Matt Campbell. I'm totally off the
- 41:48Speaker 2: Matt Campbell's ship. I think, Yeah, that fire on your
- 41:53Speaker 2: him has kind of ran out.
- 41:55Speaker 5: Yeah, I don't know. I I hear a lot of
- 41:59Speaker 5: ups and downs with my Campbell. I hear a lot
- 42:00Speaker 5: of people who are really really high on him, a
- 42:02Speaker 5: lot of people who are not high at all on him.
- 42:04Speaker 5: But yeah, no, I yeah, I think it'll be it'll
- 42:08Speaker 5: be a reverse rock Obeck just kind of the the situation.
- 42:12Speaker 5: I think that is what it'll come down to a
- 42:14Speaker 5: lot too, that those two who can play better.
- 42:19Speaker 1: So Yeah, for background two. This year on the podcast,
- 42:22Speaker 1: we've had Dak do some pick segments and some predictions
- 42:26Speaker 1: in the past. This year Dak gets one college and
- 42:30Speaker 1: one NFL game a week and that's all. So this
- 42:38Speaker 1: week it's it's case State minus three is probably the
- 42:40Speaker 1: kiss of death.
- 42:41Speaker 5: Yeah, you're lucky it's week zero and there's not any
- 42:43Speaker 5: other games. Otherwise I'd be more upset.
- 42:45Speaker 2: Every every listener has to go put one hundred dollars
- 42:47Speaker 2: on it, or else you can't listen to podcast anymore, and.
- 42:51Speaker 1: There goes our listeners.
- 42:54Speaker 5: The Bold strategy, the bold strategy.
- 42:58Speaker 1: Last question for you here, b Archie Wilson.
- 43:04Speaker 5: Yeah, do you have your Do you know the name? I?
- 43:07Speaker 5: I know the name only via your podcast or Twitter.
- 43:11Speaker 2: There we go.
- 43:12Speaker 5: The only time that I have I've heard the name.
- 43:14Speaker 5: But rugby style punter correct from Australia?
- 43:20Speaker 1: Yep?
- 43:21Speaker 5: Did or did not get the single digit number?
- 43:23Speaker 1: Did not?
- 43:24Speaker 5: Did not? Okay, I I I was. I wasn't sure
- 43:28Speaker 5: on that one. I knew that was a would have
- 43:31Speaker 5: been an interesting give, but.
- 43:32Speaker 1: That had been cool kicks with both legs?
- 43:35Speaker 5: Does he really that's impressive?
- 43:37Speaker 1: You can roll out both ways, can throw it according?
- 43:42Speaker 5: Okay? Do you think they will? They'll they'll incorporate that,
- 43:46Speaker 5: won't they.
- 43:47Speaker 1: Mike says he's a weapon.
- 43:49Speaker 5: Yeah, oh that that means that that's at least three
- 43:53Speaker 5: fake punts this year.
- 43:56Speaker 1: You want to talk about hype around any player? One
- 43:58Speaker 1: single player? Man, it is Archie Wilson, and what can't
- 44:03Speaker 1: he do? That's what we've heard. What can't Archie Wilson do?
- 44:07Speaker 5: Maybe maybe it's a great It could be just a decoy.
- 44:09Speaker 5: Maybe it's a great decoy. Maybe maybe it gets Cincinnati
- 44:13Speaker 5: being like, all right, we really got to watch out
- 44:14Speaker 5: for this guy, and then all of a sudden, the
- 44:17Speaker 5: I don't know you're you're backup tight end is just
- 44:20Speaker 5: gonna have a big day because they forgot about him.
- 44:23Speaker 1: If we incorporate Archie Wilson to something other than our
- 44:27Speaker 1: punt game, that would be electric. Like if all of
- 44:29Speaker 1: a sudden Archie Wilson drops out there on like third
- 44:32Speaker 1: and five or something like, Oh my.
- 44:34Speaker 5: God, just make him. Was he a he's a rugby player,
- 44:38Speaker 5: right came, that's his background. Oh put it? Make him
- 44:41Speaker 5: the the was it Blake Bell, Dakota, the bell.
- 44:44Speaker 2: Dozer, Oh yeah, the bell dozer, the.
- 44:46Speaker 5: Bell dozer, anything, goal line. Just put Archie in. It's
- 44:49Speaker 5: got to be a QB draw.
- 44:51Speaker 2: Sounds like he's kind of like a tays some hill.
- 44:53Speaker 2: Honestly tell you.
- 44:56Speaker 5: Might as well use him.
- 45:00Speaker 1: All right, well, I'll do it here close out the episode,
- 45:03Speaker 1: and we'll get a get a little go Cats here too.
- 45:06Speaker 1: So thanks Brander for joining us. Good luck to the
- 45:10Speaker 1: Case State Wildcats against Iowa State. We'll be doing a
- 45:14Speaker 1: fantasy football draft. Dak will be there, Branda will be
- 45:17Speaker 1: there kind of before and then during the games we'll
- 45:20Speaker 1: enjoy that. We'll have ourselves as Saturday Boys.
- 45:22Speaker 5: Big Cats awesome. Thanks guys, thanks for having me.
- 45:26Speaker 2: Go Cats, Go Catstrict
