- 0:00Lauren: There was something hanging out of me, and I pull it out.
- 0:03Amy: If you can't push him out, then we're gonna have to do a c section. Whitney, get to the hospital right now. Did you guys poop during birth? I was like, if you do not admit me, I will throw myself in front of a bus.
- 0:14Whitney: I was vomiting so much that I lost basically control of my pelvic floor. And I look at her, and I go No.
- 0:20Lauren: Did you just eat poop?
- 0:23Amy: Hey, guys. Welcome back to the Three Working Moms podcast. Hello. Hello. Girls.
- 0:28Anything new I wanna hear?
- 0:30Lauren: Oh. Anything new? No. I have. Something so funny that my youngest did.
- 0:37Amy: Who's the youngest? Can I
- 0:38Whitney: just Dude, is it really born?
- 0:40Amy: They're built different.
- 0:41Lauren: They're built different.
- 0:42Whitney: And I don't know where we were. I don't know if we were upstairs or downstairs, but, I'm, like, going in
- 0:48Lauren: to wipe her or something because,
- 0:51Amy: you know, mom, all done. And you go around the corner, and I'm in there.
- 0:56Lauren: And, she gets off, she looks at me and makes eye contact with me, grabs her hand, and reaches down to her butt.
- 1:06Amy: Oh.
- 1:07Lauren: And I go, ew. And then she puts her hands in her mouth. And I look at her, and I go no. Did you just eat poop? And she's like...
- 1:19And she's literally just staring at me. We both don't know what to say. We stared at each other for, like, I would say ten full seconds without saying a word.
- 1:25Amy: Like I cannot.
- 1:26Lauren: And I was just so disgusted. And then I go, did you
- 1:30Whitney: just eat poop? And she goes
- 1:31Amy: Oh my She was traumatized.
- 1:33Whitney: We were both traumatized. It's like that movie. What is that movie where it's like the mom bends down, she goes, is it chocolate or poop? And she, like, licks it.
- 1:39Amy: It's so gross.
- 1:40Lauren: And then goes chocolate. Oh my goodness. Yeah. I just... Anyways.
- 1:46Amy: Someone asked you. Yeah. So today we want to just kind of go over our pregnancies and our birth stories. So you guys want me to go first? Yeah.
- 1:53Okay cool. Okay, great. Awesome. To I'm go. It's kind of good because it kind of ties into episode one.
- 2:03You guys heard my story trying to conceive which was like you know, kind of traumatic and all of that. But then my pregnancy with Kylo was very, like, redeeming because it was really easy. Like, I hate to say that. Like, I hate to be that girl. But it's so nice.
- 2:17I had a rough postpartum. I always say that to people because I'm like, me. It wasn't all easy.
- 2:21Lauren: You were, like, meant to be pregnant. Yeah.
- 2:23Amy: I had a rough trying to conceive with all of... With my miscarriages, and then I had a rough postpartum. But my pregnancy with him, it was the redemption. It was like the rainbow at the end of the storm that came out of my mind. Yeah.
- 2:36Literally. I had, like, textbook easy pregnancy with him. But there was, when I was actually... I think I was seven weeks pregnant with him. I actually started bleeding.
- 2:49I remember wiping and I had a ton of blood. It wasn't even just spotting. It was like full blown blood. And that was again seven weeks pregnant right after I just had the two miscarriages. If you watched episode one then you'll kind of be up on that.
- 3:04But yeah right after I just had the miscarriages so I thought for sure like it's happening again.: Oh yeah it was terrifying.: Oh man.: Oh yeah I thought for sure for sure like it's happening again. It wasn't even spotty it was full bleeding so I just thought there there's just no other explanation.
- 3:19Whitney: Heart sinking too? Oh, yeah. Like, you just go to the bathroom like an innocent thing you do every day, and, like, your whole world can just change.
- 3:25Amy: Yeah. So then I went to the emergency room. And, of course, it took forever. Think we were waiting for, like, two, three hours, but then eventually they did an ultrasound. And she said, there's the heartbeat.
- 3:37Everything looks good. And I was like, is this like an actual miracle? Yeah. I just... Like, coming out of just having
- 3:43Lauren: For sure. You were like, it's
- 3:45Amy: done. Oh, I was like, it's happening again. Yeah. Like, I had just had the two miscarriages, and then I was seven weeks pregnant with my third pregnancy. So it's like...
- 3:52I just thought for sure it's just happening again. But, yeah
- 3:54Whitney: Did you any blood?
- 3:56Amy: Totally fine.
- 3:57Lauren: So wait. How far along were you again?
- 3:58Amy: It was seven weeks. Like, around seven weeks. Yeah. Yeah. I think I was even seven and a half, like, just right in that seven mark.
- 4:05Lauren: It still is in that early
- 4:06Amy: phase. So So what it ended up being was I had had a vag... A transvaginal ultrasound just, like, two days before that. Uh-huh. They're Irritated it.
- 4:17They're thinking it just irritated, I guess, your, like, your cervix or whatever. Yeah. That's kind of what happened. And and it was like... It was such a miracle.
- 4:27But outside of that, then everything was quite, like, linear. Like, it's just... It... I had a very easy part. I did have, like, a little bit of, nausea from, like, weeks five Aw.
- 4:39To, like, weeks eight. And then that's it. Yeah. Like,
- 4:44Whitney: your version
- 4:45Lauren: of nausea is like, oh.
- 4:46Amy: I know my nausea is like, oh my belly. No. I... Never could go up
- 4:51Whitney: or anything. Like, screenshots I sent to my husband of just, like, tears streaming down my face after I
- 4:56Amy: had, like, vomited. Yeah. No. Luckily I never vomited, and the the nausea, it didn't fully fully relieve until I was like eighteen weeks, but it was like so mildly lingering. But yeah, I mean I had like a really super easy pregnancy with him, so I really have nothing else to say about that.
- 5:10Oh, I'm so excited for you. Yeah. I know. Then when I was about
- 5:13Whitney: so great for you, Amy.
- 5:14Amy: So happy for you. Well, and honestly, this pregnancy has actually been even slightly easier because I had You're like, actually hate this person. All the listeners right now are actually What? We actually really hate Amy. Tea is the outstander.
- 5:29But hey. Don't worry, The tea is coming. Okay? Because I had a traumatic birth and a traumatic postpartum. I'm like, Just
- 5:36Whitney: I'm so... I really am so happy that you had such a great experience.
- 5:39Amy: There is, there's a plot twist. Okay? It's all rainbows now. But, yeah. So around...
- 5:46So even, like, in my third trimester, was never uncomfortable. Even right now, my... In my third trimester, I'm not uncomfortable. I carried Kyla all the way till forty plus four, and I swear I was not uncomfortable. I was like
- 5:59Whitney: That's insane.
- 6:00Amy: Yeah. It is honestly really interesting.
- 6:01Lauren: You were meant to be... Like, body is like, I carry babies.
- 6:04Amy: Yeah. I will say, like, I feel like I do pregnancy very well. It's just the postpartum. I'm curious to see how it goes this time around because I didn't have an easy one with my first. But, yeah.
- 6:13So then the 40 plus four, I lost my mucus plug. I remember just going to the bathroom wiping mucus plug, and I was
- 6:19Whitney: like, it's happening. It's happening.
- 6:22Amy: And it was like my picture perfect hallmark birth. Okay? Because, again, I really like... If you listened to my trying to conceive story, then you know that I really wanted, like, perfect... Picture perfect trying to conceive, announce to your family, get pregnant on the first try.
- 6:37I really wanted that and it didn't happen but then the birth was kind of happening that way. I was like oh I'm getting my Hallmark moment, I'm losing my mucus plug. Then my water broke like I think an hour or two after that. Oh so
- 6:48Lauren: your water did break?
- 6:49Amy: Yeah it broke. Oh wow. And it broke on the bathroom tile floor.
- 6:53Whitney: Oh wow.
- 6:54Amy: Easy cleanup.
- 6:55Whitney: Way to go Kayla.
- 6:56Amy: It really was a hallmark story but then it took a turn for the worst. But anyways, so then, yeah, then I just, I took a shower. I ordered some spaghetti and meatballs because that was a priority for me apparently.
- 7:12Whitney: Okay, for your after labor meal?
- 7:15Amy: No, for my before going to the hospital.
- 7:18Whitney: Oh yeah, okay because I
- 7:20Amy: genuinely planned in my head, like
- 7:22Whitney: the minute I have this baby this is exactly what I'm getting at the hospital.
- 7:26Amy: No, was like before I give birth mama's gotta eat.
- 7:29Whitney: They're not gonna feed you. The second you're there, they're like, yeah, no.
- 7:33Amy: No joke. I have a photo on my phone that I will literally pop up. But... So this is an important detail, by the way. Once I tell you my birth story, you'll be like, oh, the spaghetti meatballs.
- 7:43Okay so then after that we just went to the hospital. I think I got to like and at first I had obviously my contractions and I was in a little bit of pain but I wasn't dying dying and I remember getting that epidural and it worked and I felt good. I remember thinking to myself, I could totally do that all over again like 10 times. If that's what giving birth is, that was easy. I even sent my sisters a photo I think of me like this with my peace have it
- 8:12Lauren: on my phone. Insert it.
- 8:14Whitney: Yeah. I'll pull
- 8:14Amy: it up. Please. And I sent them a photo, I
- 8:16Lauren: was like, this with
- 8:17Amy: the epidural. And I literally said to them, if this is what giving birth is like, sign me up. I'll have 10 more of them. Like, we're good. And then, like, an hour later, it started to fade.
- 8:26And I'm like, why am I in pain again?
- 8:28Whitney: Oh, no. Why am I
- 8:29Amy: feeling it again? And so I told the nurses, I was like, the epidural wore off. So it just stopped working. And I was like, okay. Now I'm actually in a lot of pain because I I probably at that point was...
- 8:38I don't even know. Maybe I was at six centimeters or something like that. You're going
- 8:41Whitney: from zero to hero real fast.
- 8:42Amy: Literally. So then I remember them giving me Pitocin, which this time around, I'm gonna be like, no Pitocin.
- 8:48Whitney: Yeah. No. Pitocin, I feel
- 8:50Lauren: like there's only there's only problems with Pitocin from what I've noticed.
- 8:54Whitney: Mean, hey. Oh, yeah. No. I know that some people have, like, great experiences with it, but the overarching is like no. Don't do it.
- 9:02Advocate for
- 9:03Lauren: yourself because they tried to just come in for mine and
- 9:05Whitney: do it.
- 9:06Amy: And I'm a first time mom. To be honest with you, that sounds really stupid, I didn't even know what Pitocin was. No it doesn't. You're the first in your family to have because I'm laying
- 9:13Whitney: there, I'm
- 9:13Amy: in pain, and the nurse is coming up to me plugging something in saying we're just gonna give you some Pitocin, okay, to speed up your labor a little bit, because you're not progressing as fast as we would like. And I'm like okay, because I don't know what you're talking about, it's a bunch of mumbo jumbo at that point. And I'm looking back now, and I'm like, actually was progressing. Like, I think when I went in, I was a three. I went up to a six.
- 9:32Like, you just wanna get me out of here faster so you can get the next girl in here faster. It's like, come on. I think my body would have been fine.
- 9:39Whitney: Yeah. But But then they...
- 9:40Amy: So they gave me the pitocin, and, the epidural wasn't... Stopped working at some point. And I actually... So Kylo was... He was head down.
- 9:48So he wasn't breached. He was head down. But he was what they call, like, sunny side up or OP where their skull, basically, his head or his skull is pressing on your spine. So I... It's literally...
- 10:00Yeah. I've heard it's so painful. It's incredibly painful. Like, it's so... It's like contractions times a million.
- 10:07It's so painful. I can't even describe it. I remember looking to to the nurse and seriously saying... Like, looking her in the eyes and telling her, like, I'm going to die. Oh.
- 10:15And she was like, you're not gonna die. Like, women do this all the time. You're good. Now that was crazy thing.
- 10:21Whitney: Okay. We all decided to do this again. Like, we'll have I know. I'm here pregnant again.
- 10:24Amy: And we're like, you know what? I think I could
- 10:26Whitney: do it again. Think I could do it again.
- 10:27Lauren: I'm like,
- 10:27Amy: it was traumatizing in pregnant again. Yeah.
- 10:29Lauren: I know.
- 10:30Amy: But... Yeah. So I felt everything though only from the waist up. For some reason, it worked, like, from the... Not waist down, hip, I should say.
- 10:39Like, it worked vaginally on my legs. Like, my... Yeah. Vaginally. And with my legs, I was numb.
- 10:44But I felt all the contractions. So I felt all the back contractions, which was terrible. But at least it worked vaginally. Yeah. Didn't feel that.
- 10:52Yeah. But, anyways, so it just didn't work. They tried to give me a second one. Didn't work. Yeah.
- 10:57Only worked down, hips down. And then, yeah, eventually... Oh, yeah. I threw up. Oh my goodness.
- 11:04Which this is why the spaghetti and meatballs are draining spaghetti and meatballs. Literally, I swear Whitney, the nurse looked at me. It's disgusting. It's beyond Wait until I
- 11:19Whitney: tell you how disgusting it gets.
- 11:21Amy: The nurse looked at me and she goes, Did you eat spaghetti and meatballs? And I was like, I did. I mean mortified. Yeah I was mortified. I felt like so much pain.
- 11:34You're like, I don't care. Oh my goodness. I was like, I did. Yeah. I actually did indeed.
- 11:39But, anyways, it was all in my hair.
- 11:41Lauren: Poor thing.
- 11:42Amy: Yeah. It was in my hair, and I remember Lorenzo and the nurse tried their best to, like, take it all out. Aw. But that stayed... Yeah.
- 11:50That stayed in my hair for three days. Poor thing. I'll explain why. Know. It's foul.
- 11:55I'll explain why. No. I'll explain why. Okay? Really?
- 11:59I feel like She's, like, nursing for me more baby. Yeah. The baby's like, mama, so I'm gonna say, mama, let me take a nipple. Yeah. I'll explain why, but without giving it away.
- 12:11But, yeah. So then, then it was time to push. And when I was pushing, he just... Keep in mind, was... So the doctor did literally put his entire hand in me.
- 12:24Okay? Turned Kylo so that he wouldn't be face up anymore.
- 12:28Whitney: Yeah.
- 12:29Amy: And Kylo went right back. Then he did it again, and Kylo went right back. So he's like, I've done it twice. He's just going right back. Let's leave it.
- 12:36You can still push. So I tried to push, and eventually his head, like what the doctor said was his head, was wedged, and so it sort of got stuck. And she said at some point, she was like, his head's really starting to swell now. Like, there's only so much you can push when their head's in the same position for so long. So she said his head's really starting to swell, so we're a bit, like, worried about that.
- 12:57We're gonna give you about one more hour, And if you can't push him out, then we're gonna have to do a c section. And I remember it, like, being in so much pain at this point. Like, like, I'm literally feeling everything contraction wise. Luckily, not down there. But, yeah.
- 13:12So I remember even thinking, like, should I just, like, not bother even like pushing for this last like hour or whatever. But I remember looking at Lorenzo and we were like debating on what to do and we're like let's just try because if I don't give them my all then like I I'll always kind of probably regret it. So I'm in a ton of pain but I'm like just gonna give it my all. I even asked the nurse like am I pushing wrong? Am I doing something wrong?
- 13:31She's like you're pushing really good which by the way I forgot how to push. It's been four years. J
- 13:38Whitney: push. Okay. What's the J push? Yeah no oh my gosh I did so much research on, like, adequate, like, pushing his Okay. There's effective pushing and, like, obviously, like, not effective pushing.
- 13:48I guess they're not all created equal, to be honest. But there is this woman. She is amazing on YouTube. I'll have to think of what her name is. It's not coming to me.
- 13:55But she did this, like, whole thing about, like, breathing and technique and, like, shit's called the j push where you literally, like, visualize yourself pushing in the formation of a j. So, like, when you're, like, pushing down, like, genuinely, like, think of your body pushing in the formation of a j. Interesting. Okay.
- 14:14Lauren: See, I feel like I can tell the difference between pushing, like, on the two different parts down there.
- 14:20Whitney: Feel like pushing, Lauren? Maybe giant hat.
- 14:24Lauren: I feel like I could feel the difference. Like, I know how to, like... I don't know. I I don't know. I didn't have an issue with that.
- 14:30I don't I don't know what that says about me. But, like, I feel
- 14:32Amy: like You're like, what does that say about my v v down there? Say less.
- 14:36Whitney: Say less,
- 14:38Lauren: Lauren. But
- 14:42Amy: don't slit right out of there. But but... Yeah.
- 14:48Lauren: So we... Slit little slide. Yeah.
- 14:52Amy: So I did end up having to get the c section. I could not push him out. And then his head was, yeah, his head was swelling too much. So I did have to get the c section, and that's why the vomit stayed in my hair for three days. Of I literally couldn't move for, like, the first twenty four hours.
- 15:04And then after that, I was so out of it, and I was like, honey, you're gonna have to wait for me to wash this damn thing. Yeah.
- 15:09Whitney: Do you think you're gonna do a VBAC?
- 15:11Amy: What's the plan? We're planning for a VBAC. Okay. Yeah. And my OB is totally on board, which I'm really happy with.
- 15:15She's very supportive of it. But she did, and I love that she already said this. She's straight up told me your best chance of a successful VBAC is no inducing. And I'm like
- 15:26Whitney: Yes. Oh.
- 15:27Amy: Queen. Queen
- 15:28Whitney: music to my ears. We're best
- 15:30Lauren: friend. Yeah. That's incredible. Feel like the Pitocin a lot of times from what I've heard when people take Pitocin, like, the odds of an, a C section are higher.
- 15:40Amy: Yeah. It's higher. Yeah. For sure.
- 15:42Lauren: Which I don't know. I wonder why.
- 15:44Whitney: It's probably just like your whole body is just not working in the
- 15:46Lauren: way it naturally is supposed to do. It's being forced
- 15:48Whitney: into it. I think being forced into something it's not maybe ready for. Again, I'm not a health expert in any way, but I feel like that makes sense to me in my
- 15:59Amy: head is like I'm forcing my body into something it's not prepared for. 100% and I feel like there's probably some circumstances of course where I think women need do need some of these things but I think
- 16:11Whitney: you're like if you love your pitocin like that's also incredible.
- 16:14Amy: Yeah I think that there's circumstances that it's very needed Get and that it away from me. And it also I
- 16:19Whitney: mean personally I would hope to not have to use pitocin but I can I know people in my life that are like yeah I had the best induction I love it I'll do it again and I just think that it's so particular to what you want and as long as like baby safety is number one in that forefront of your mind Yeah? You gotta do it best for
- 16:40Amy: me also.
- 16:40Lauren: Have this, like, really weird theory with pitocin because one of my nieces had it. Well, my sister did it for one of my nieces. And I looked into it, and there is, like, a study, and I'm not sure if this is, like, actually true because I looked this up so long ago, but the eye strength. She had a bit less... Her eye would go in a little bit.
- 17:03Interesting. Which I think that we might just be a family full of lazy eyes. But it very well could have been the pitocin, and I remember looking into it and seeing that there was, like, some eye health, like, issues with it. And maybe I'm just saying that because that's my theory, but maybe I'll I'll chat to
- 17:21Amy: you later. Well, I do think, like, inducing probably works for some people's timelines in certain situations, obviously. Yes. So I think it, like, it has its time and its place and it's necessary whatevers. But I do think that, like, our body is quite literally meant to do this.
- 17:35Yeah. And your body will go into labor when it's ready to go into labor most of the time. Mhmm.
- 17:39Lauren: Well, unless you have my doctor.
- 17:41Amy: Yeah. Mhmm. Did he try... He tried to
- 17:43Lauren: Well, he did the perineal sweep on me, where he puts his hands in there and literally goes like this to try to stretch my cervix out. I felt his fingers literally go around my oldest head, and it was so painful, and he was really, like, pushing it for me. Literally
- 18:03Whitney: do it? When? Yeah. How long were you?
- 18:05Lauren: Honestly, I was, I think, thirty seven or thirty eight weeks. It's very... Like, it was like... He's like, well, the baby is completely ready. It's just your body.
- 18:13And it... Again, first pregnancy, so you just listen to your doctor. It was the same doctor both my sisters had. And so I just figured I would just follow suit and go with, you know, who delivered my nieces and nephews. Yeah.
- 18:26But, yeah, pregnancy for me, I can circle back because I kinda got ahead of myself.
- 18:32Amy: Yeah. Yeah.
- 18:33Lauren: And then I'll get into the perennial sweep. But when I was pregnant, it was great. Everything was awesome. But again, my doctor did a swab, and it came back abnormal. And he said that I need to do a biopsy of my cervix while pregnant.
- 18:52Amy: Wow. Oh my goodness.
- 18:54Whitney: So, again, listened to my doctor, did what he said.
- 18:58Lauren: I remember I had my, like, legs in the stirrup. He did the whole stuff, took a sample of it while I was pregnant, second trimester. Wow. And go on about my day, I would say, about a week and a half later. So I thought it was behind me.
- 19:14There was, like, a light bleeding. I'm in the shower. And, anyways, so it was... Yeah. There was something hanging out of me, and I pull it out, and it looks like flesh.
- 19:30What? It literally looks like flesh, and I am like, I'm miscarrying. Pieces of the baby are coming out. Yeah. So I panic.
- 19:39I call Blake. He's at he's at, work, and I go, I'm having miscarriage. Like, I'm going to the hospital right now.
- 19:46Amy: Yeah. That's so scary.
- 19:47Whitney: So I
- 19:47Lauren: drive to miscarriage. He rushes, meets me. I see him. I start crying. And then, like, they're in no rush.
- 19:53Again, same thing. Took their sweet old time. Mhmm. And I'm like, I think I'm, like, having a miscarriage, and they don't even rush to get me an ultrasound. But, anyways, we get the ultrasound.
- 20:04Everything's fine. And, it was because what my doctor used to cauterize or, like... Because he took the sample and to, like, make the bleeding stop. It's like something that they... It's called...
- 20:18It's like a leap procedure, and I forgot what it was called, but it's something that comes out. I think it's called leap is what comes out. And I looked into it. There's not a bunch on the Internet. There might be some now, but it's just like like this flesh stuff comes out.
- 20:32How terrifying. It was terrifying, but I completely had forgotten that that had happened, because the the story ends up being beautiful. Everything's good. You're right. Forward, he's forcing me to do the perennial sweep.
- 20:46Not forcing me, but heavily encouraging. Yeah. And, again, new mom, don't know, don't know how to advocate for myself.
- 20:53Whitney: So easily influenced in that, like, vulnerable state of just Oh, yeah. Wanting to
- 20:57Amy: do what's best for
- 20:58Whitney: your baby. Know what's
- 20:59best. Mhmm.
- 20:59Yeah. And you look for your health care professional
- 21:01Amy: Yeah.
- 21:02Lauren: To to guide you and lead you. And even cervix checks, like, if I get pregnant again, I won't do a cervix check. I don't think it's necessary for me because you don't necessarily have to because it doesn't matter. I could be one centimeter today and tomorrow I could be three centimeters and It get is. And so they...
- 21:19I've looked into it, and then my second doctor for my second kid, they let me do that. And I was like, okay. You know what? I do wanna check. And like, I think I did like one time.
- 21:30Yeah. But it was up to me. It wasn't just, okay, put your fingers in there Yeah. And do So again, he did that, and so then I ended up having cramps for a whole week. And I went to the hospital.
- 21:44I remember it was like a Thursday, and I was like, I think I'm in labor.
- 21:48Amy: And the lady goes, okay. And, like, I'm looking back now, you
- 21:53Lauren: were not in labor. That was my biggest turned away. Well, that was me.
- 21:58Whitney: You think this is labor? Like, just wait.
- 22:00Lauren: Well, I lived your biggest fear, and I got turned away. Yeah. And, she's like, I
- 22:05Whitney: knew it when you walked
- 22:05Lauren: in and said I think I'm in labor. Because you'll know who
- 22:08Amy: you are.
- 22:09Lauren: Exactly. Okay. But it's not
- 22:10Amy: I think, it's I am.
- 22:11Lauren: It's... Yeah. So then I
- 22:12Whitney: didn't know. You didn't?
- 22:14Amy: No. Really? Yeah.
- 22:16Whitney: That's why I was like, was in denial.
- 22:18Amy: Like, I would be, like,
- 22:19Whitney: in denial. And so that's when everyone would be like, you should go get checked. I'm like, so they can turn me away? No. It's embarrassing.
- 22:25Yeah. That's so funny. Well, it happened to me.
- 22:29Lauren: And so I got turned away, and then I ended up having her on a Sunday, I think. So Thursday, Friday, Saturday, all, like, having, like, contractions that were five minutes apart through that time. Thank you to the doctor because of the perineal sweep.
- 22:42Whitney: Okay.
- 22:43Lauren: So then I go into labor and I walk in, I go, I'm in labor. I was
- 22:47Amy: only three... I was like two centimeters, and they have to admit you at three, I think. So I
- 22:52Lauren: was stuck, and I wasn't progressing. And so I had to walk around, and I would take a
- 22:57Amy: step, and then like almost die, and then take a step, and then almost die. And I'm like,
- 23:02Lauren: I took two laps, and it took me like a whole hour. And then they said that they... Like, if I don't progress, they were gonna let me go home,
- 23:11Amy: and I was like, if you do not admit me, I will throw myself in front of
- 23:15Lauren: the bus and I will get admitted.
- 23:16Amy: And that's how I knew. Hilarious. That's how you knew. That's how I was maybe it's happening. I said, I'm getting admitted.
- 23:22Yeah.
- 23:23Whitney: Then in the front of this facility.
- 23:26Lauren: Oh, no. I'm, like, making my way in.
- 23:28Amy: Yeah. Making my way down. Making my way down, baby.
- 23:31Lauren: And then... So I was like, I need something for the pain. So they gave me Dilaudid. That shit was good. And I I would've never heard
- 23:41Whitney: of this. How have I not known?
- 23:42Lauren: I remember, like, she had to push it slowly in because you can't do it too fast. It gets to your head. And she slowly did it, and I was just like, so good after that. And it relaxed my body, so then I started progressing.
- 23:57Whitney: Yeah.
- 23:58Lauren: So... But the key is, and I think it was because of my first kid and that's why they gave me the Dilaudid, it crosses the uterus, and so it comes to the baby, so you can't deliver within an hour or two hours of getting it because then the baby will come out tired.
- 24:12Whitney: Oh. But I
- 24:13Lauren: think they knew. They're like, oh, first kid, she's gonna be laboring for
- 24:15Amy: Yeah.
- 24:15Lauren: A long time. So anyways, I was great. And I was like, do you wanna, like, come talk to me?
- 24:20Amy: And Blake was like, I'm going
- 24:21Lauren: to sleep.
- 24:21Amy: And I was like, okay. That's hilarious.
- 24:25Lauren: And then they, again, tried to
- 24:28Amy: come in with pitotos, and I was like, oh, what is that? And they're like, pitotos. I was like, oh, I really like
- 24:31Whitney: to try to do it
- 24:31Lauren: on my own. She's like, okay.
- 24:32Whitney: Aw. I love
- 24:33Amy: you for that.
- 24:34Lauren: It was only because of my sister.
- 24:35Amy: Yeah. You had that experience. Yeah. I never... I'm like the first one in my family to
- 24:39Whitney: have a baby. Oh. Yes.
- 24:41Amy: Out of my siblings or anything. Yeah.
- 24:43Lauren: Get the epidural. Had the best anesthesiologist ever, and then my doctor didn't deliver me both times. So I'm like,
- 24:51Amy: ah, okay. Hey. This is my vagina. Let's go. Was it the doctor
- 24:53Whitney: that was on call for your office or the on call for the hospital? Hospital. Both times. Because your doctor didn't make it in time?
- 24:59Lauren: Yeah. Or was off. One was off, and the other didn't make... I don't even know, honestly.
- 25:06Amy: Okay.
- 25:06Lauren: But I'm like, who cares? It's just... I mean, the nurses really do all the work. They just show up for, like, five seconds.
- 25:11Amy: Oh, 100%.
- 25:12Whitney: And you weren't loving him anyways.
- 25:14Lauren: No. But I did like my second one. So anyways, I pushed a
- 25:18Amy: couple times, and the guy... Well, he stops me. He goes, stop. Look at me. Push like this.
- 25:23And I was like, okay. And I pushed, and he goes, made me look good
- 25:25Lauren: in there. High five. High five me. And then I forgot, so I did have a small tear, but it wasn't a tear. I was like is it a one?
- 25:34Amy: I was
- 25:34Lauren: like give me an extra stitch, and he laughed, but it was like not even a full tear, because I was like I don't
- 25:42Whitney: know what it is. Guess I...
- 25:43Lauren: And I thought about it, I was like, oh, yeah. Because I remember seeing him pull the string, and I was like, oh, that's an interesting view. Even if
- 25:49Whitney: it's like a scratch, they'll like... Kind of just to make it heal nice is what they told me. Give me that extra stitch.
- 25:56Lauren: I am here for it. We are here.
- 25:58Amy: I'm just like... I I... Tearing is like my worst nightmare. It really tear with Kylo? No.
- 26:04Because I just... Yeah. Yeah. I'm not sure. Yeah.
- 26:08Yeah. Well, I've heard horror stories. Like, a friend of mine tear... Is it third Oh, no. No.
- 26:13No. I can't. Yeah. Yeah.
- 26:16Lauren: I have a friend that full on butthole.
- 26:21Amy: I mean No. That was what... That was
- 26:22Lauren: It's a vibe. It a vibe?
- 26:24Amy: Yeah. She had a heck of
- 26:26Whitney: a time down there.
- 26:26Amy: And Yeah.
- 26:28Whitney: Couldn't walk. But, man, when she told me, was like, oh my gosh. What I know? You know if you need anything. You need a doughnut pillow?
- 26:34Like, you... Or I got you.
- 26:36Amy: Couldn't walk for, like... I think she said she couldn't walk two to three weeks after birth, which is tough for newborn.
- 26:41Whitney: Yeah. And you're like, you want some, like, semblance of normal in this stuff. Even though they're telling you, like, rest. Rest. Rest.
- 26:48Like, for me personally, I didn't want to. I wanted to, like, live life with my baby.
- 26:54Amy: Yes. 100%. Yeah.
- 26:55Lauren: Did you guys... What a shock was it when there were so many hands inside of you when you get to the hospital?
- 27:01Amy: Oh, yeah. And it's... And the way you
- 27:02Lauren: just don't care. I was like, oh, next person. Hi. And they checked to see how dilated you are. I remember being like...
- 27:09Because I used to be like, when you'd go to the gynecologist, you'd be like, oh.
- 27:12Amy: And then we're like, what's up? Yeah. Yeah.
- 27:15Whitney: Boop closer, and you're like inching your butt
- 27:17Amy: to bed. You're like, I have to come one day, like, come on. What about after birth? What about
- 27:22Whitney: after birth?
- 27:23Lauren: Titties out. Hey. What's up?
- 27:25Amy: Yeah. No. I actually have a question. Yeah. Did you guys poop during birth?
- 27:30Whitney: I don't know. I never asked. Okay. I... One, I didn't want to know.
- 27:36Amy: Yeah. Like, I could actually do without this information. I could actually live
- 27:39Whitney: my whole entire life, like put me in the grave without that. Like, I'm so good on that. What about you?
- 27:44Lauren: That's it. No. No. No.
- 27:45Whitney: I didn't put... I mean,
- 27:46Lauren: so he tells me. I mean, I... No. I didn't. Yeah.
- 27:50But I was like, even if I did, I'm like, I just Yeah.
- 27:52Amy: It doesn't... I mean They're so used
- 27:55Whitney: to it.
- 27:55Amy: So much pressure down there. Like, your body can only
- 27:58Whitney: do so much. You know?
- 27:59Lauren: Yeah. Yeah.
- 28:00Amy: So what about, so then is that... Was that
- 28:03Lauren: Oh, and then I had another one. Yeah. Then you had Harlow.
- 28:06Whitney: You didn't I have had a child.
- 28:07Lauren: I have too. How was
- 28:08Amy: your pregnancy with Harlow?
- 28:09Lauren: I walked into the hospital, obviously knew I was in labor this time around. I was like, that's the feeling. Yeah. And then they... I had to get wheelchaired in.
- 28:19By the way, I was fighting with Blake on the drive.
- 28:24Whitney: Why is he so on par for, like, just life? Oh my gosh. We're, like, fighting
- 28:28Amy: with him. Got mad at me because he was
- 28:30Lauren: in labor.
- 28:31Whitney: I was like Perfect.
- 28:32Lauren: I'm about to push your child out. And I
- 28:34Amy: was like, you need to get out of
- 28:35Lauren: this car right now. So funny. But then every... Obviously, everything was fine. But, we get to the hospital, I get admitted, and, they gave me fentanyl this time around.
- 28:45Wow. Girl does
- 28:46Amy: phone hearts. You be know all them.
- 28:49Whitney: Heartburn. All
- 28:50Lauren: I gotta say is come to my hospital experience. Gave me fentanyl and I like fentanyl. They're like it's not the street stuff. And that one really didn't even help that much. It helped me for maybe thirty You
- 29:04Amy: needed that other stuff?
- 29:05Lauren: Because I walked in, I said, I want an epidural. I knew what I wanted, sign me up, I know. I was blissful. They did not get the anesthesiologist in there until I was eight centimeters.
- 29:17Whitney: Oh, no.
- 29:18Lauren: And I was like, at that point, I might as well have just done it.
- 29:20Amy: Yeah. Oh,
- 29:21Lauren: yeah. Because once... I mean, you're already in the pain, and I, like, looked at it, and I was like, get me. And I was trying to be nice. I even...
- 29:28You know me people pleaser. But that's a high end. I was kind of, like, mean to the nurse too. I was like, where's the epidural? Like, my body.
- 29:35Amy: You're at your wits end at that point. And he said no joke.
- 29:38Lauren: Anesthesiologist was waiting outside of a lady's room who didn't want an epidural. She wanted to do it all natural route, which I'm like, you know, way to go girl, queen, go.
- 29:48Whitney: I got this.
- 29:49Lauren: I knew what I wanted. He's gonna come over here. Yes.
- 29:51Whitney: Give me a shot.
- 29:52Lauren: If you change your mind, he'll come back to you. Yeah. But, yeah, eight eight centimeters, and he didn't do as well of a job. I remember like feeling it going in, and then I was sore months later, maybe, like, a year later, and I felt it. And it took, like, a few more contractions because I was so far along for the epidural to, like, actually numb me.
- 30:13Whitney: Pushed pushed like a boss, and then she was
- 30:16Amy: four. That's amazing.
- 30:17Whitney: I... Both times, I put... Like I said, I
- 30:20Amy: Just slip right out of there.
- 30:22Lauren: Slip and slide. These these girls just... Had no tear this time, so
- 30:27Whitney: what does that mean? Amazing. That is incredible.
- 30:30Amy: Yeah, opens right up. But do you see how she
- 30:32Whitney: feel like?
- 30:33Amy: Just wow. Just wow. Didn't have like super easy pregnancies. Right? Like, you said
- 30:44Whitney: you felt gray with them.
- 30:45Lauren: Yes. With with Har, my youngest, I definitely felt gray the entire pregnancy just like... But I was also super low in iron
- 30:55Amy: Mhmm.
- 30:56Lauren: And which, you can talk about too. But I wasn't like that. I wasn't like...
- 31:02Amy: You were like, going on with the rocker.
- 31:04Lauren: But I I... Yeah. And, it just wasn't fun. Like, it's not fun for me to
- 31:10Whitney: be pregnant. I'm not one of
- 31:11Lauren: those people who are like,
- 31:11Whitney: I love my beak. Look at me.
- 31:13Lauren: Yeah.
- 31:14Amy: But that kind of brings me to what I... My point was, like, I kind of have this theory that people either have easy pregnancies, easy birth, or, like, easy postpartum. Like Yeah. Easy birth and postpartum, I say.
- 31:25Whitney: So, like, because you had
- 31:26Amy: a rougher pregnancy, you had a really... You said your postpartum experience and your birth was pretty... Yeah. I love this. That's gonna just be
- 31:35Whitney: sadness this entire episode. I know.
- 31:38Amy: It's just a win. Yeah. What's in your brain?
- 31:40Whitney: Be like, is my window open? Stop. But, yeah, I
- 31:43Amy: feel like that's just... I don't know. That's my theory. Because I had such an easy pregnancy, it's like that my birth birth and postpartum wasn't easy. So I don't know.
- 31:49Whitney: That's not
- 31:49Amy: a theory of mine. But I would say my theory. Yeah. I'm always like, you either have a crazy amazing pregnancy or Yeah. Like, swap to you or the other.
- 32:01Whitney: I haven't met someone that's
- 32:02Amy: had both. Like, an amazing pregnancy and amazing labor.
- 32:04Whitney: I know. But, like, if that's you, sound off in the comments because I would love to talk
- 32:07Amy: to you. I know. Yeah.
- 32:08Lauren: But I... Honestly, my pregnancy wasn't bad though.
- 32:12Amy: Like it was not like I was throwing up the whole time.
- 32:13Lauren: I didn't feel 100%. I felt fatigued. I hated my husband every ounce of every day, the way he walked, everything. Like me pregnant, not That's
- 32:21Amy: still not you having a magical pregnancy though, but then you kinda had a magical birth. Like they came right out,
- 32:26Lauren: you didn't tear,
- 32:27Amy: you said postpartum you felt good.
- 32:28Lauren: Postpartum was good I for feel
- 32:30Amy: like you get one or the other, but what about you with your pregnancies
- 32:33Whitney: with
- 32:34Amy: Yes, the let's hear your words.
- 32:36Whitney: So much treasure.
- 32:37Amy: She's like, I already... We got
- 32:39Whitney: some Oh, goodness. Yeah. Where do I begin? Like, I don't know where
- 32:44Amy: Your first. Okay. So... Yeah. I'll start with the first.
- 32:48Whitney: With my first, he made me so sick. Mean both of them like I was so sick with but like each of them was like a different sickness. Yeah they were very different both felt like I was dying the entire time like I compared it to like living with a parasite my whole pregnancy. Oh, man. Yeah.
- 33:08Like, it was just intense kind of the whole time. And so with Baylor, I was sick basically from the get. Like, eight weeks, I believe, is when it really kicked in that I was having a lot of issues. And it's kind of weird issues. Not what you'd expect, kind of, I feel like.
- 33:30So I was throwing up all the time, all day long. Like, morning sickness, never heard of her. All day sickness, that's what I know. And I was... Couldn't keep anything down.
- 33:41I was... Yeah. Just all the time. But what was really the kicker for me in my pregnancy with my oldest was that I was so severely constipated. Oh, yeah.
- 33:52Yeah. Like, so bad. Oh, yeah. To where I was on a daily phone call every day with my nurse at my doctor's office calling to be like, did it happen? And I said, nope.
- 34:04Didn't happen today. I was on so many different medications trying to get movement to happen Yikes. To where my doctor basically was like, this is the most severe case. I don't know what to do for you. And I got referred to a GI specialist.
- 34:20Yikes. Yeah. So that was insane. My baby just took
- 34:23Amy: it took everything from you.
- 34:25Whitney: Took everything in, and he was just like, yeah. Like, normal constipation, like, that's normal. Like, when you're pregnant, like, constipation is like Yeah. Like, it's there. You know?
- 34:32It takes...
- 34:33Lauren: It's the whole entire pregnancy, you don't have a satisfying poop.
- 34:35Whitney: No. Literally. Never.
- 34:37Lauren: Think it's everyone.
- 34:38Amy: Yes. No. See, I'm fine. She's like, no. I'm literally right.
- 34:41Speak for yourself.
- 34:42Whitney: Don't in that. Don't group me in that.
- 34:44Amy: Was I fine with Kylo and I'm fine with this pregnancy too. So good.
- 34:46Lauren: I remember taking my first one.
- 34:48Amy: Tell you, I feel like a normal person who just happens to be having a pregnancy.
- 34:52Whitney: That's what I'm saying. You're meant to
- 34:53Lauren: be pregnant.
- 34:54Amy: You are pregnant. Pregnancy is hand in hand. If I'm gonna have a... If I had a bad birth and a bad postpartum, please, and a bad trying to conceive, please just at least give me a magical pregnancy.
- 35:02Whitney: Yes. No. It's so good. It's so sweet too. Like It's good to
- 35:06Amy: hear different sides of it too. Right? Like, you really have, like, the picture perfect textbook pregnancies. And then you have other... So it's good to hear Yeah.
- 35:14Are all different versions. So you name it,
- 35:17Whitney: your girl tried it, like, to help things move, if you will. Anyways
- 35:24Amy: What were the tricks you tried?
- 35:25Whitney: I know. Oh my god.
- 35:27Amy: Do you want to know? I want to know.
- 35:29Whitney: Oh my gosh.
- 35:29Amy: The listeners want to know.
- 35:31Whitney: What is it? So many enemas.
- 35:33Lauren: Yes. Enema. And then Did the enemas work? Because I feel like they should.
- 35:36Whitney: No. Nothing worked. Wow. I feel like enemas are
- 35:39Amy: Whatever the little pill is. Oh, yeah. The suppositories?
- 35:43Whitney: Suppositories. I was on, stool softeners. I, to this day, cannot take, like... What are those little, like... Oh my gosh.
- 35:56What are they? The things that you put in water and you mix them. Oh. Laxatives. Yeah.
- 36:03I can't take a laxative. Like, to this day, like, in a water, like, it will make me immediately vomit because one time because you're traumatized. Yeah. I was traumatized. I was taking them so much that there was one time I just got done drinking it, and I look at Derek and I'm like, I'm going to throw up.
- 36:18I get up and I cup it, and I threw up the entire contents of what I just drank.
- 36:23Amy: So to this day, like, I genuinely cannot If you're nauseous already and then you're having to take those, I could not imagine that.
- 36:29Whitney: And, like, even things like you add in, like, electrolytes to this day is, like, a kind of, like, a trigger. Like, if it does
- 36:33Lauren: not dissolve, like, I will,
- 36:34Whitney: like, start gagging and, like, dry heatings because of it. It's so weird what sticks with you. Yeah. And then Sure. Goodness.
- 36:41So that was kind of the consistently overarching, like, story of my entire pregnancy with Baylor. Like, just vomit, can't.
- 36:50Lauren: The entire pregnancy you threw up? Mhmm.
- 36:52Amy: Good grief. Mhmm.
- 36:54Whitney: Like, to put in perspective, I gained 22 pounds my entire pregnancy.
- 37:00Amy: Wow. Yeah, you just gave it down.
- 37:02Whitney: Couldn't keep anything down.
- 37:03Amy: Isn't it crazy how you, like, you still gain it, though? Because of the extra blood? Like your boobs get
- 37:09Whitney: how that guy got any nutrients, I have no idea. He was eight pounds. He was nearly eight pounds. He was seven fourteen. Wow.
- 37:15Mhmm. My labor with him was great, literally great. I love labor. I do. I feel like the most empowered human being in the
- 37:33Amy: I can entire understand that.
- 37:34Whitney: After I do it, I'm like, I'm literally a rock star. Like, I looked at my husband, I'm like, how does it feel to be married to a literal rock star? I'm so weak.
- 37:44Amy: When it comes, I'm like, ah, give me Dilaudid. I'm like, no, honey. I Did you have an epidural?
- 37:49Whitney: I did have an epidural with Baylor. So I, what my family calls it, is go into labor denial where I don't think I'm in labor. And so I labor a lot home. And with Baylor, my mom was in town and Derek's, like, playing his video games. And I'm, like, literally on the ball and my mom has, like, her elbow, like, in me just, like, going to town on my back because I had back labor with Baylor really bad.
- 38:14Amy: Oh, yikes. So I'm, like, hunched over
- 38:15Whitney: the ball. My mom's just going to town, and Derek's like, gaming because he didn't know what to do. He didn't think I was in labor because I kept saying, I'm not in labor. It's probably Braxton Hicks because I didn't have any Braxton Hicks. I did do a perineal sweep...
- 38:26Or no. Not a sweep. I got my cervix checked at my forty week appointment because I went forty and five with
- 38:31Amy: And the
- 38:33Whitney: they, really... One doctor in the office, not my doctor, but they... You see a rotation of doctors, which I didn't know either, that, like, you're not necessarily guaranteed to have your doctor deliver your baby.
- 38:45Amy: Yes.
- 38:46Whitney: It could be whoever's on call for that office that delivers your baby. So the last month, our office likes to, like, rotate so you at least know you're familiar with that doctor who could potentially be delivering. And I was at my thirty eight week appointment, and this doctor basically told me, like, point blank period. He told me this nearly verbatim. I don't like seeing women on my schedule past thirty nine weeks.
- 39:08It's a waste of time.
- 39:09Amy: Oh, I hate that.
- 39:10Whitney: And that I should schedule my induction. And I started sobbing, and I was like, I really want to go to forty weeks. I heard that there's a statistic that most moms go forty and five because your body's not, like, doesn't know yet what to do or whatever the case may be. And he was like, where did you read that word statistic? And I was like, well, I don't, like, have it on hand.
- 39:32But I will go find it. And so ironically guess who delivered at 40 and five? Me. That's funny. Yeah take that and I declined scheduling an induction.
- 39:44Didn't want to I wanted to see what my body could do. So yeah back home I you know, call my doctor, my good old nurse. She answers the phone, and she's like, hi, Whitney. Like, what's going on? I was like, I think I'm in labor because I, again, did not want to show up to the hospital and be, like, turned away and be, babe, like, you think you're in labor?
- 40:02Like, good luck to you. Like, this is nothing. And so she's like, okay. Well, like, are you timing your contractions? And I'm like, yeah.
- 40:09I am. I am. She goes, okay. Like, what's what's the time? And I'm like, three minutes.
- 40:13And she goes Oh, no. Whitney, get to the hospital right now. Like, what are you doing? And I was like, okay. Yeah.
- 40:20I'm I'm gonna do that. I'm gonna go to the hospital. And she goes, okay. So I go out. I tell Derek.
- 40:24I'm like, Derek, you know, it's time to go. Sharon said it's time. That's my nurse's name. And he goes, okay. The man stands up.
- 40:33He goes to the fridge. He grabs a beer and pops it open and just takes a big gulp. And I look at him and I'm like What? What are you doing? And he goes, I'm freaking out
- 40:41Amy: right now. And I'm like, you're freaking out. I'm freaking out. Like, I don't know that has to go push on the baby. Wait.
- 40:48Wait. That's hilarious. My husband
- 40:51Whitney: in a nutshell. Obviously, like, he only took a sip. Like, it's fine. Like, we got there totally safe. Was...
- 40:56It was fine. He just took a sip to, like, calm himself, but it was just so stinking funny. That is hilarious. It was, like, his immediate reaction. So, like, an hour later
- 41:04Amy: freaking out right now. Yeah. He's like, I'm freaking out right now.
- 41:07Whitney: So, like, an hour later, like, we're loaded up. We're ready to go. And we get to
- 41:11Amy: the
- 41:11Whitney: hospital. And thankfully, like, I got there during the day, so I didn't have to go through the ER. And you just go up. They saw me, and she goes, yeah. I don't think we're gonna need to triage you because a lot times they wanna triage you to make sure, like, you are dilated.
- 41:25And she goes, I can tell you're you're good to go. So I get in there. I was six centimeters when I got to the hospital, and we got to the hospital at four. And then, I did get an epidural. I had the most probably amazing.
- 41:38It was such an incredible experience for my first labor.
- 41:43Amy: Oh, I love it.
- 41:44Whitney: And I just... So often you hear about just so much trauma and that outweighs the beauty sometimes of it is that it can be so beautiful Yeah. And it can be so great. And I get checked in. I had this nurse named Pam, and I will never forget this woman.
- 42:01She is so special, and this was such her calling. But she's the one admitting me. She's getting everything typed up. And as I'm being admitted, I keep getting asked, like, is your hair naturally red?
- 42:14Amy: Yeah. That's so funny. Is your hair is your
- 42:16Whitney: hair naturally red? And I'm like, yes. Like, why does everyone keep asking me? Like, yes. My hair is natural.
- 42:20Okay? I'm sorry. You can't, like, have it. And I'm like, why does why does someone keep asking me, like, if my hair is not? She's like, oh, because redheads, like, have a resistance to pain medication.
- 42:32Oh. And so, like, if you're getting an epidural, like, it will, like, affect it. And so I'm like, that's crazy. I had no idea. And so the anesthesiologist comes up and, like, this is, like, very, like, timely.
- 42:43Like, they are not hesitating. Like, I'm already six centimeters, so they knew I finally wanted this epidural. Like, I wanted to get it sooner than later. The epidural comes in. Amazing experience.
- 42:51Pam has just got me hunched over. She's whispering the most encouragement in my ears. My husband is just, like, sitting there, like, with
- 42:58Amy: his eyes. He told
- 42:59Whitney: me afterwards, he goes, Whitney, don't understand. This needle is huge, and it went into your back, and I just had to stand there and watch them put this needle in your
- 43:05Amy: back. Oh.
- 43:06Whitney: And I got it. Worked beautifully. I had no complications, and my epidural was almost, like, genuinely the most perfect level because I wasn't completely numb. I could still lift my legs. I could still do it, and my...
- 43:20I could feel when the contractions were coming. So I could also... When I was laboring, I could feel when I wanted to push.
- 43:26Amy: Oh, that's really nice.
- 43:26Whitney: So that is really nice, and it helps, like, prevent tearing, I believe, is, like, to be able to know when to push so you're not forcing it.
- 43:33Amy: Yes. Yeah.
- 43:34Whitney: So I got the hospital at four. I had Baylor at seven. So I was there for three hours when I had him. That's amazing. I pushed for fifteen minutes.
- 43:44It was incredible. I had the best time. I had a tiny little scratch that I had stitched. Extended stitch.
- 43:52Lauren: Yeah. A little extra there.
- 43:54Amy: I love hearing positive birth stories.
- 43:56Whitney: Yeah. Yeah. It was beautiful. Like, I genuinely wouldn't change a single thing. Oh, actually, there is one thing I would change about it and other things about it.
- 44:02They forgot to call my doctor. So Baylor came out with the most gnarly cone head. Oh my goodness. Was so bad.
- 44:11Amy: Ever you saw hers? I
- 44:13Lauren: showed you hers.
- 44:13Whitney: Yeah. We compared because both of our kids had the most crazy Literally people. I labored down because, like, you can labored
- 44:20Amy: down for, like, an
- 44:21Whitney: hour to, like, really get them in the in the little, like, whatever. I don't know. I'm still new to this. And they get the baby in there, and so I wanted to labored down for an hour. I labor down for an additional hour because I'm, like, going and I'm telling the nurse some...
- 44:33They had shift change at seven. And so at that shift change was basically when I had Baylor. I had him at 07:30. And so I had this new nurse. Pam left me because she was gone, And the new nurse, unfortunately, like, didn't realize, like, I was ready to go.
- 44:49And I had told Derek. I like, Derek, get the nurse in. Like, I... The baby's coming. The baby is coming.
- 44:54And so Derek goes and gets her, and she comes in. And she's like, how's it going? I'm like, I... The baby's coming. The baby is coming.
- 45:01And she checks, and she goes, oh, yep. Okay. Don't do anything. Do not push. Just wait.
- 45:06So then they call, get to need it in, I can hear them kind of whispering about like, yeah. We need to get to need it in. Or we need get her doctor in. We need to get her doctor in. And, he got there, and it was really cool because Derek actually got to catch my son.
- 45:22Aw. That's amazing. Did. It was really sweet. I didn't want him down there.
- 45:27I said, eyes up here, sir. And Doctor, that's a good question. Yeah. I did not want him down there. I was like, no.
- 45:34Thank you. And I was like, there's things you can't unsee.
- 45:37Amy: That's so funny because did your husband's look? I wanna know.
- 45:40Lauren: Oh, dude. I told Blake, used to get the pictures. He's got pictures?
- 45:44Whitney: He straight up has pictures
- 45:45Lauren: of me crowned. Like, yeah. Like, both of them. I said, get in there. There's not all the pictures.
- 45:50Whitney: And honestly, I look back. I'm like, slay. There's not one ounce of me that ever wants to know what it looked like down there. Oh, I love it. It's so You look?
- 45:57Lauren: I looked. They asked if I wanna
- 45:59Amy: Did you? I touched. No. I don't think I'm I'm interested in looking. No.
- 46:04I wanna see it all. Like, I'm good. Just get them out. Oh, yeah.
- 46:08Lauren: I made him go down there and get pictures.
- 46:09Amy: That's so crazy. Oh, big. Yeah. Think that would, like, give me, like, little bit of an on myself, I think. Yeah.
- 46:17At least
- 46:17Lauren: there's pictures crowning and mama going,
- 46:20Amy: ugh. That's so funny. I'm dying. No. There's actually not one.
- 46:23I did
- 46:23Lauren: it for both of them. I made him take a picture for both of them.
- 46:26Whitney: I could show you.
- 46:27Amy: That's hilarious. You wanna
- 46:28Lauren: see me crowning?
- 46:29Whitney: No. I'm good. All that I
- 46:31Amy: tell totally good. The ick. It's
- 46:32Lauren: so good. Like, I honestly was like, oh.
- 46:35Amy: Love that. You're like, slay.
- 46:37Whitney: I kinda look hot.
- 46:38Lauren: I know. It's like The doctor's literally going,
- 46:40Whitney: like, Derek, Derek, come on. Come down here.
- 46:42Amy: And I go, eyes up here. And then Derek's like, okay. Okay.
- 46:46Whitney: So And he's like there, and then, like, the last push, Derek went and, like, pulled.
- 46:50Amy: So did he actually look, though? Do you know? Or did he just pull? No. He was down.
- 46:53Whitney: He pulled. My eyes were closed. I'm, like, going. Yeah. And Derek went and grabbed him and put him on my chest.
- 46:58Amy: Oh my. That's really beautiful. See, it's really beautiful. So sweet. I think that,
- 47:02Lauren: you know, they've obviously seen it. You know? I mean,
- 47:05Amy: I was know. But it's delivered different. Like, Lorenzo did not want to look. He was like, absolutely not. I'm gonna
- 47:10Lauren: Well, did you not look?
- 47:12Amy: No. I was like, I can I can feel that?
- 47:15Lauren: You were having a C section.
- 47:17Amy: Yeah. But even while I was pushing, like,
- 47:19Whitney: was not interested in me. I could see Lauren's and being like, no. I'm good. I'm
- 47:24Amy: so good on that. Nope. So good on that. But... Yeah.
- 47:28And then with... Was that... That was Baylor's?
- 47:30Whitney: That was Baylor's. And so then Chaplin. Chaplin tried to kill me. No. As a does.
- 47:37Yeah. No. As a second kid, like, I remember even being pregnant and being like, Derek, he scares me. He scares That's Like, this baby's crazy. Yeah.
- 47:47Chaplin, I was immediately sick, 10 times worse, and I didn't think it could get worse, but his was purely just vomiting all day long consistently to the point where my doctors wanted me to have an at home nurse have a Zofran pump and a six week, I believe, IV drip because I couldn't hold liquids down. I couldn't hold food down. I was losing weight. Like, it was intense. Oh, another thing I forgot to mention with, with Baylor was I...
- 48:18Was it Baylor? Now I'm getting them confused. No. It was not with Baylor. But with with Baylor's pregnancy, I also, like, couldn't...
- 48:32No. It wasn't. Scratch this. Cut that. Okay.
- 48:35Okay so with Chaplin I was so sick couldn't gain weight the whole nine yards and then on top of that I was vomiting so much that I lost basically control of my pelvic floor so when I was vomiting I was fully emptying my bladder.
- 48:47Amy: Oh my, that's insane. Was You weren't joking. He really tried
- 48:53Whitney: to kill you. No, literally, I was so bedridden and also I have a two year old running around. He's like, mommy, why are you why are you sick? That's
- 49:02Amy: the hardest.
- 49:03Whitney: Ongoing jump, Baylor would go and, like, fake vomit into a toilet. Aw. It was, like, actually heartbreaking, and then you go, like, to be like, mommy. Yeah. It was so hard in those moments and then with Derek being gone a lot too like he felt so bad because I was so sick.
- 49:21That's tough. Yeah it was really tough and then I got sick in, with like a respiratory infection and my body like was in such fight or flight mode it literally couldn't catch up and so I wasn't on I was on an inhaler because I had a cough that like couldn't reside and so I would just start hacking and I couldn't stop and then I would again cause your body's like fully in it I would pee myself from coughing.
- 49:47Amy: Wow
- 49:48Whitney: that's intense. It was really intense and then it just keeps on going I'm like and then then and then, so I was in pelvic floor therapy, which I recommend to every single mom whether you are issues or not. It is the best thing I could have done for my body, to be honest. Like, it was incredible. I loved my, therapist.
- 50:11She gave me so many pointers and truly did heal my pelvic floor. I have no issues now to this day. Like, absolutely none. I can run a mile. I can jump.
- 50:19Can do everything.
- 50:19Lauren: If I go on a trampoline, it's a gamble.
- 50:22Whitney: Yeah. I have no issues, I swear. Like, genuinely.
- 50:25Lauren: I told I told Nicole, our backdoor neighbor. I was like, when you see me jumping, just know. I'm peeing a little.
- 50:30Amy: That's so funny.
- 50:32Whitney: Just know.
- 50:33Amy: Well, now I know too. Yeah. Know. We all know. I know.
- 50:36We all
- 50:36Whitney: know now. Funny.
- 50:37Amy: You're welcome.
- 50:39Whitney: And then another thing that happened with Chaplin was I had really, really low iron and I probably because I couldn't keep any food down so I'm not getting any nutrients. Yeah. So I had iron infusions as well when I was pregnant with him. It was just a plethora of just, like, stacking things on top of one another, and then I was really hesitant to take any Zofran because Zofran also constipates you if you didn't know. So I didn't want to risk what I went through with Baylor to do with Chaplin.
- 51:08So, yeah, just real rough with him. I was able to gain a whole 17 pounds. Entire heart is insane. Gosh,
- 51:17Lauren: I thought mind gaining wasn't good. Dang. I don't even know. I only know because they
- 51:23Whitney: were monitoring it like and I didn't I was losing weight and then it wasn't until like my third trimester where I was able to finally pick up which is also crazy because Chaplin was eight pounds four ounces.
- 51:35Amy: Good grief. Wow.
- 51:37Lauren: Both my kids were six pounds six ounces nineteen inches. That's insane.
- 51:41Amy: Yeah. They were like, we know the size of your uterus. That's crazy that it was exact same.
- 51:44Whitney: Wow. The exact same. Wow.
- 51:47Amy: That is was only seven pounds two ounces or seven pounds four ounces.
- 51:52Lauren: See, feel like that's normal.
- 51:53Amy: It is normal, and that's why my doctor was like, it is a little concerning that he got stuck and you couldn't push him out. I know, but I will say he has a
- 51:59Whitney: big head.
- 51:59Lauren: He's got big head. He doesn't fit. Any of
- 52:01Whitney: my patients all the tips that I did to, like, get them them birthing hips ready. Please please please. I need all the things. Either he just had
- 52:08Amy: a big head or I have a narrow or small. I will say I was chattypie teeing it. Chattypie tee mentioned that the possibility of the fact doctor that the doctor turned him and he went right away too. It could have been something about my... The positioning or the narrowness of something in my pelvis that just no matter what the baby had to be in that position because that's all how he could fit maybe.
- 52:30Yeah. It's, like, a possibility. I don't know. So it's it's a fifty fifty chance that it was either his head was too big or that it's just the shape of my pelvis. I don't know.
- 52:41Lauren: Yeah. See, didn't even know that
- 52:42Whitney: there were exercises you could
- 52:43Lauren: do to prepare yourself. Like Yeah. Oh my There's
- 52:46Whitney: so many things you should be doing.
- 52:48Amy: I've been doing a couple, but I feel like there's way more that I should be doing. If you can like send me that I'll send
- 52:52Whitney: you all the things because I barely made it to the hospital chaplain. Yeah. I may have been dying but you bet your bottom dollar I was still putting in the work. I was... Did you do no epidural?
- 53:02I didn't know... I didn't have a choice.
- 53:04Amy: Because it was too fast?
- 53:05Whitney: Yeah it was too fast.
- 53:06Amy: Oh, yeah.
- 53:08Lauren: You said you would do it that way again.
- 53:09Whitney: I do think I would do it that way again. So with Chaplin's labor, I... You know, he was actually born on his due date. So again, I went into my denial. I went in to my thirty nine or forty week appointment the day before, and my mother-in-law was flying in that day, and she was who was gonna come take care of Baylor while I was at the hospital.
- 53:31And so I was like, okay. Let's just, like, check to see what's going on down there, and I'll decide in that moment if I want you to do a sweep. Mhmm. I didn't get to do a sweep with Baylor, and that's why I think I did... Was in denial was because he was so...
- 53:45Oh, another thing. I had placenta previa with Baylor too, so that resolved itself. Thank goodness.
- 53:49Amy: Oh, yikes.
- 53:50Whitney: Yeah. Just all the things. Scary. It's so scary. And I didn't realize the severity and the scariness of it until afterwards when I researched it.
- 53:55I was like, oh my goodness. Like, that could have been really bad. Yeah. But with Baylor, they were never able to reach him. Like, they couldn't tell me if I was dilated.
- 54:07They couldn't do anything because I was still so high. So at my forty week appointment, I was kind of already mentally checking, like, I'm gonna probably have to be induced. So with Chaplin, I was like, let's just look. Okay? And I'll tell you in that moment if I wanna sweep.
- 54:20And she goes, you know it's gonna be uncomfortable. Right? And I go, mhmm. She goes, and you're gonna wanna talk to me while I'm, like, up there. And I'm gonna go, mhmm.
- 54:26Mhmm. We're gonna do that. So
- 54:28Amy: she goes up there and she looks at me. She goes, I could grab his
- 54:31Whitney: head right now. Do you want me to do it? And I go, nope. That's I need my mother-in-law to be at least in the state because if... Once I'm in active labor
- 54:39Amy: You knew it was gonna happen.
- 54:40Whitney: I'm gonna have this baby because Baylor was already so fast and they say it gets faster. So Yes.
- 54:44Lauren: Nope. Don't not believe your first was so fast.
- 54:47Whitney: It's because I... Well, I mean, I shouldn't say it's because, but I genuinely believe that I did prenatal bar my entire pregnancy with Baylor, and I did so many things to, like, prepare my body. I really think that accounted for a lot the tips. Me too. Did acupuncture.
- 55:05Do a whole thing.
- 55:06Lauren: I did acupuncture for my second. It felt like that definitely, like, escalated.
- 55:11Whitney: Yeah. Your body's, like, tension and stuff.
- 55:13Lauren: Yeah. That's incredible. But I
- 55:14Whitney: mean, not... I mean, I need... Yeah. Yeah.
- 55:17Lauren: I need the notes too if
- 55:18Whitney: I No. I'm gonna drop all the notes. I I literally have sent it to so many friends. I think I have it in my notes. I'll send it to you.
- 55:23So then with Chaplin, my mother-in-law was not there. So I was like, nope. We're not doing that. So then she goes, okay. Well, I'm just letting you know that even though I'm not doing this suit doesn't mean he's not gonna come.
- 55:35Okay? Like, she was, like, telling me basically, the baby's coming no matter what at this point. Like, I could grab his head. He's so low. And I was at three centimeters at that point.
- 55:44Oh, good grief.
- 55:45Lauren: She could have admitted you. Yeah. Mhmm.
- 55:47Whitney: And so then I'm like, okay. Well, I'm gonna go to the gym. See you.
- 55:49Amy: Stop. That's so funny.
- 55:51Whitney: Went to the gym. I went to the gym the day that I had him to. I, like, walked on the treadmill. And that day, was like, things are kinda being weird down there.
- 55:59Amy: And my
- 56:00Whitney: mother-in-law was there, so was like, we're all good to go. I went, it was about midnight. I told... I went to the shower. Also, that was the best thing I could have ever done.
- 56:07I showered. I labored down for, like, an hour and a half. Then I come out. I told Derek. I'm like, it's ready to go.
- 56:12He goes, okay. And we... My mother-in-law goes up to him and was like, no. You need to get Whitney to the hospital right now. Like, she's moaning.
- 56:21And, like, I guess when you're, like, moaning, it means that, like, you are ready to go. Yeah. And I didn't know that. And so I was just thinking, oh,
- 56:27Amy: I'm gonna
- 56:27Whitney: go in that six centimeters again. Everything's gonna be dandy. We get to the hospital. There's absolutely no parking, which is the most frustrating thing ever. So Derek is like, well, I'm just gonna park in the bay, and I'll move it later.
- 56:37We have to get you checked into the ER. So we go get checked into the ER, and Derek, because he's a fireman, he knows a lot of the people within that, like, area of the emergency room. And so he knows the check-in clerk, and they're talking. And I'm sitting in my wheelchair just moaning like a cow. And they finally have to send down the charge nurse to come pick you up and get you in.
- 57:00She's talking to me. She goes, oh, are you gonna want an epidural? And I'm like, yep. Sign me up. Sign me up for that epidural.
- 57:05And Derek's, like, talking to his friends because they're... All the firemen are in that bay that are waiting for their patients. And I'm like, Derek, like, let's go. Like, we've gotta go. I'm ready to have this baby.
- 57:14And thankfully, though, Derek had the forethought to hand his keys off to someone else because he would have missed my labor entirely. By the time we got up to the room, it was about 02:00 in the morning, and I had Chaplin at 02:15. Oh my word. Mhmm. It was crazy.
- 57:31Like, genuinely, like a movie. I get admitted in there, okay. Let's check where you're at. And the nurse doesn't even look me in the eye. She looks directly at Derek and goes, she's nine centimeters.
- 57:43And I look at her and I'm like, I can still get that girl. Right? Please come back
- 57:47Amy: and still get that epidural. And she's like, we'll do everything that
- 57:49Whitney: we can. I'm full Knowing that I'm not gonna get this epidural. And so these nurses came in like a flock, and I heard them saying, she's nine centimeters. She's nine centimeters. How is she nine centimeters?
- 58:04Oh, no. And I was like, Derek, I can't do this. I can't do this. He goes, you got this. You've got this.
- 58:08Aw. You... And then this one nurse, and I never caught her name because it... Again, it was so stinking fast that she's in my... She goes, mama, you did this all on your own.
- 58:20You have this. You already did it. This
- 58:23Amy: Yeah. You're 90% there.
- 58:25Lauren: You're done. Wait. Why does that make me emotional? I love that lady.
- 58:28Whitney: I had the most incredible nurses, truly. And I pray that everyone has great nurses because they really can make or break your whole experience. And they... I look at Derek, and they said, your water hasn't broken yet, so we'll try to get you the epidural within seconds. It was like a movie.
- 58:45Like, onto the floor, like, fully splat. Yeah. It was insane.
- 58:51Amy: The timing on that. The timing was crazy, and that I also went
- 58:54Whitney: nine centimeters without my water breaking. Mhmm. It's insane. Anyways, my doctor did not make it in time for obvious reasons, and I had two pushes and Chaplin was there. And then we FaceTimed my mother-in-law, and she's thinking that we just got to the hospital, and I have the baby.
- 59:10Lauren: Oh my goodness. What was her reaction? She was
- 59:12Whitney: like, oh my gosh. Yeah.
- 59:14Oh my gosh. Like, that's insane. And then the nurses, like, pulled Derek aside, and they're like, hey. If you guys have other kids, like, if you're planning on having more... Like, if she has a stomachache, bring her in.
- 59:24Amy: It's coming out. Yeah. I...
- 59:26Whitney: We joke. I'm like, Derek, you're gonna need to bring, like, an OB kit, like, home because I don't think I'm gonna make it next time.
- 59:31Lauren: Wow. Would you ever do a, like, birth at home? I would. Well, because you have a straight up a Yeah. I...
- 59:40Yeah. That scares me.
- 59:42Whitney: Yeah. For sure. It scares me. I don't think I could do my first at home just because I kind of want the security that, like, I don't know how my body's going to do it. And it's nice knowing how my body performs before Yeah.
- 1:00:00Deciding that. Absolutely. So because I, as of now, I mean, every single one of them will be different, but right now, like, my body really does handle giving birth well. I would be pretty confident to do it at home. I mean, there's a good chance for the next one.
- 1:00:14I forgot to mention this with. Baylor. I was in such denial of me being in labor again. We all call it... Whitney is in labor denial.
- 1:00:24And so I'm fully contracting. I'm timing these contract... Contractions. Right? I had the brilliant idea of putting self tanner on.
- 1:00:31Amy: Stop. I'm not even joking. Love it.
- 1:00:34Whitney: I put self tanner on. I coat my hair. I did my makeup. Oh my goodness.
- 1:00:37Amy: All of
- 1:00:38Whitney: the things. Because I'm thinking, like, this is Braxton Hicks. Like, this is not labor. I'm not in labor. I'm not having a baby.
- 1:00:43Honey was 40 and five. Like, the baby is coming. Okay? And so when I got to the hospital, you were poked and prodded, right? And I am marinating.
- 1:00:53Amy: Oh, right. So tender. I would actually, like, I would be so uncomfortable. I hate marinating. I hate that process.
- 1:00:58Lauren: I don't even know what that is.
- 1:00:59Whitney: It's when It's have to still on. I didn't wash it off yet.
- 1:01:02Amy: Like a liquid and have to wash it off. You're kinda like sticky and you just have like the sticky on. And you're green. I actually You're green? You have a green Yeah.
- 1:01:10Whitney: I'm using one like a tin. Yes. And so
- 1:01:13Amy: wash it off. You have to wash it don't know what salt tans is. Yeah. Not all of us are not all natural.
- 1:01:17Whitney: Bronze. I'm kidding. I'm kidding. Keep going. And so I...
