- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a mastermindset coach, creative strategist, and also happened to
- 0:10be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:28Hey everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:30And it is not early because one, it's Sunday, but two, it is the,
- 0:36you know, we had to jump forward with the clocks.
- 0:39And I don't know about you guys, but this probably is one of the
- 0:42most fascinating things to me as a human that we do this and play
- 0:48mind games with ourselves, screw up our rhythms of sleep and do
- 0:53all of this. When if we just stayed in one
- 0:56time zone and we didn't change the clocks and we just, you
- 0:59know, here we are, this is our time, we would be so much better
- 1:03off. We would learn to adapt and
- 1:05nothing would go wrong. The hours in the day are still
- 1:08the same, and it's just a matter of the games we play.
- 1:12It's just a matter of the games we play with our head.
- 1:15And I am always fascinated by it every time we we go through
- 1:20this, the falling back, the moving forward.
- 1:21How many people complain about the fact that it's dark too
- 1:25early, which it it does. And then we have the whole thing
- 1:28about it's light too late, which it is.
- 1:30And if we just stayed steady, we would be so much better off.
- 1:34Yet as human beings, we can't seem to get it together as as a
- 1:38globe to say, OK, let's just do this instead.
- 1:42What seemed like a good idea eons ago is no longer a great
- 1:46idea for us. So why can't we fix it?
- 1:49And that comes to the bigger part of this podcast, which is
- 1:51when something's not working or something is challenging, you
- 1:55know, are are you back to what we talked about the other day
- 1:58about being able to pivot? And this is one that affects
- 2:00everybody. And so many people struggle with
- 2:03it. So many people get thrown off.
- 2:04So many people turn into cranky, you know, grumps about this
- 2:09thing. And then they can't sleep.
- 2:11They get all thrown off and it's it's unnecessary.
- 2:15This is an unnecessary plague that we go through and give it
- 2:18to ourselves. So where else does this show up?
- 2:21Where else in our world does this kind of an irritation
- 2:25annoyance show up? And when you start to look at
- 2:28things, you can really get like, OK, this is ridiculous.
- 2:31And I'm going to give you an example of this.
- 2:33Even so, I've been doing a ton of work outside and getting
- 2:36things ready. And I spent a lot of time on the
- 2:39coop trying to figure out certain things, getting things
- 2:42ready. Still a lot to do.
- 2:44But one of the things that I wanted to do was open up their
- 2:48space again. We had somehow, I collected a
- 2:51lot of things that, you know, I had put in here for them.
- 2:54And they were no longer using them because they weren't babies
- 2:57anymore. And when I have babies, I can
- 3:00set up an area in this year, we will not be getting any chicks.
- 3:03Listen to me. Make that proclamation right
- 3:06because maybe I will change my mind.
- 3:10However, I hope I don't because I currently have 61 chickens and
- 3:14that's a lot of chickens anyway. Well, I mean it's a lot, but
- 3:17it's not too many. But in any event, I was cleaning
- 3:21everything out and I was looking around and I was saying every
- 3:24morning I walk in and I have trays for them with their, with
- 3:27their breakfast veggies on them. And there's their beginnings of
- 3:31the day. I like to give them hot Peppers,
- 3:32coconut oils, fresh shredded veggies of some sort, usually
- 3:35zucchini because it's easy to shred bananas.
- 3:38And you know, other days I'll do pasta for them.
- 3:41Oatmeal depends on leftovers, like whatever it is, but I come
- 3:45out with three platters every morning and I have to walk
- 3:48through the gate and I try to make it before they are actually
- 3:52up because then they bombard me at the gate because they know
- 3:55they have breakfast. So I had this, I have to set it
- 3:59all down. And every morning I struggle
- 4:02with this. Where am I going to put it?
- 4:04And yesterday when I was out here cleaning up, reorganizing,
- 4:08creating these little benches, I came saw this little idea about
- 4:11how to make a bench out of a four by four and some cinder
- 4:16blocks. And I was like, oh, that's
- 4:17really cool. I like it.
- 4:18So I was painting cinder blocks. I painted their those purple
- 4:22stairs that I found on the side of the road black to match their
- 4:25coop. And I'm doing all this stuff,
- 4:27moving things around, cleaning it up.
- 4:30And I say to myself, why am I not planning to have a spot to
- 4:33drop the trays in the morning so that I can get myself organized?
- 4:36Because I also have a freeze dried mealworms and grains for
- 4:39them that I throw out so they can scratch around in the yard.
- 4:42And I, I started laughing and I was like, OK, this is one of my
- 4:46biggest irritations. Why was it not number one on the
- 4:49list? And I stopped and paused and
- 4:52thought, I have no idea. I have no idea.
- 4:54It's just something that was it's like having a Pebble in
- 4:56your shoe. It's annoying, but you can keep
- 4:59walking until it becomes so irritating you have to stop and
- 5:03pull it out. And this one, I didn't mean for
- 5:05it to become so irritating. I wanted to like scream about
- 5:08it. I just wanted to stop the whole
- 5:09thing. So I OK, let me, let me create a
- 5:12little bench right near where I stopped to drop their trays and
- 5:15boom, you know, it's the problem is fixed in no time at all.
- 5:20So this comes down to really being thoughtful and looking
- 5:24Look at all those little things and say to yourself, which are
- 5:27the ones I can fix. Now we obviously can't fix
- 5:29daylight savings times, although I wish they'd take a public poll
- 5:33and put it up somewhere so we could all vote on it and then
- 5:35they could just understand that the rest of us don't like this
- 5:38and stop it. Do something about it.
- 5:40However, however, I hope you guys don't have problems with
- 5:45the clock change and that you all get some sleep tonight and
- 5:49maybe you'll be like me and going to bed super early so that
- 5:53you can make sure you get your head back in the right space.
- 5:57All right my friends, I hope you have a blessed day and I will
- 5:59see you tomorrow. Bye.
