- 0:01Speaker 1: In this corner, standing at 6'5, weight class unknown, but
- 0:04Speaker 1: hailing from the city of sin, put your hands together
- 0:07Speaker 1: for Jamison Welch.
- 0:08Speaker 2: And in this corner, standing at 5'10, weighing.
- 0:11Speaker 1: In at * * * pounds, and coming to us
- 0:14Speaker 1: from his super secret bunker with no AC in Tucson, Arizona,
- 0:18Speaker 1: put your hands together for Luis Montemayor. All right. Thank you.
- 0:28Speaker 1: Welcome back to the Mixed Company Podcast. Of course, I'm
- 0:31Speaker 1: going to have for the show. I'm Jameson. As always,
- 0:34Speaker 1: I'm joined by Luis. Luis, what's going on, man?
- 0:37Speaker 2: What's up, Jameson? Got some interesting things to talk about
- 0:40Speaker 2: today on this episode. So last Saturday, if y'all were
- 0:45Speaker 2: watching boxing, Pitbull Cruz knocked out Nestor Bravo in round six.
- 0:50Speaker 2: Pretty exciting fight. A lot of action. Very aggressive play
- 0:54Speaker 2: by Pitbull. And, you know, don't really have much to
- 0:57Speaker 2: say about that. The more interesting thing is that Pitbull
- 1:00Speaker 2: called out Ryan Garcia at the end of the fight.
- 1:03Speaker 2: And actually, Ryan is entertaining the idea of fighting Pitbull.
- 1:06Speaker 2: We talked about Ryan a lot last episode. I'm happy
- 1:09Speaker 2: to do it this week, every week, as long as
- 1:11Speaker 2: we're talking about him for the right reasons. Not, you know,
- 1:13Speaker 2: no shenanigans, no bullshit. So, yeah, Ryan, according to Ryan,
- 1:19Speaker 2: you know, he's open to fighting Pitbull in December. and
- 1:22Speaker 2: coming back still for Cinco de Mayo which is awesome
- 1:25Speaker 2: that you know he's fighting that often if it does
- 1:26Speaker 2: happen um what do you think like if he does
- 1:29Speaker 2: if Ryan does pull this off and fight three times
- 1:31Speaker 2: in eight months you know is is he living up
- 1:33Speaker 2: to his you know um well I guess what you
- 1:35Speaker 2: would call it expectations of being a star being a
- 1:38Speaker 2: real boxer what do we.
- 1:38Speaker 1: That'd be good that'd be good from as best as
- 1:40Speaker 1: he missed time you gotta remember he missed over a
- 1:43Speaker 1: year without fighting for obvious reasons so we don't need
- 1:46Speaker 1: to go into detail about that but he missed some
- 1:47Speaker 1: time so Being able to be that active would be
- 1:50Speaker 1: good for him as well as having a big event
- 1:53Speaker 1: planned in May if he were to be victorious later
- 1:58Speaker 1: this year. I think those are all good things. I
- 1:59Speaker 1: think those are all positive things. That being said, Pitbull
- 2:03Speaker 1: Cruz isn't a walkover. That's not an automatic W. That's
- 2:06Speaker 1: the thing that was kind of interesting. I mean, it's
- 2:08Speaker 1: a good fight. I think Ryan would be favored and
- 2:10Speaker 1: Ryan probably wins, but it's not a guarantee. That's not like, oh,
- 2:14Speaker 1: I'm going to show up and win. He's going to
- 2:17Speaker 1: have to fight for that. He's going to have to
- 2:19Speaker 1: really come prepared and ready to scrap uh with that
- 2:22Speaker 1: being said i do see it also it does well
- 2:26Speaker 1: that's a fight that matchup wise name wise it can
- 2:31Speaker 1: sell so if you put that fight in la or
- 2:33Speaker 1: vegas or somewhere in texas it does very well so
- 2:37Speaker 1: it all makes sense it really.
- 2:38Speaker 2: Does yeah i'm a fan of the idea and yeah
- 2:42Speaker 2: pitbull is definitely uh like i said very aggressive and
- 2:45Speaker 2: uh here's the thing at the end of the day
- 2:47Speaker 2: when it comes to whether ryan is favored even if
- 2:51Speaker 2: the odds say he is the favorite to win we
- 2:53Speaker 2: have to believe that he's going to be focused and
- 2:55Speaker 2: really put the energy and put the work in to
- 2:57Speaker 2: get the win and that hasn't always been the case
- 2:59Speaker 2: with him you know we got everybody has to admit
- 3:01Speaker 2: that even fans of his gotta admit he's been snoozy
- 3:04Speaker 2: he's been unfocused he hasn't taken it seriously uh so
- 3:08Speaker 2: i want to look at ryan garcia see him favoring
- 3:12Speaker 2: the odds and say, I believe that in my heart
- 3:15Speaker 2: of hearts that he could, he could pull that off.
- 3:16Speaker 2: So if he stays hungry and disciplined, like he has been,
- 3:20Speaker 2: I can absolutely see it. And you're right. You know, I,
- 3:23Speaker 2: I kind of last episode, I sort of forgot that
- 3:27Speaker 2: he was suspended for a full year. He's, he's got
- 3:31Speaker 2: to make up that time, you know, and, and, and
- 3:33Speaker 2: of inactivity. Plus, you know, at the end of the day, it,
- 3:41Speaker 2: these days we've talked about how fighters don't fight very often. And,
- 3:43Speaker 2: you know, fighting three times in eight months is like
- 3:45Speaker 2: back in the day, it wasn't a crazy thing, but
- 3:48Speaker 2: we really need stuff like this and this amount of
- 3:51Speaker 2: activity from our current guys for the sport to flourish.
- 3:54Speaker 2: So I want to see it not to mention Pitbull.
- 3:58Speaker 2: If he's going to fight Ryan, he would have to
- 4:00Speaker 2: go up seven pounds from one 40 to one 47
- 4:01Speaker 2: or not seven, but you know what I mean? He'd
- 4:05Speaker 2: have to go up and wait. Yeah. And yeah, That
- 4:09Speaker 2: doesn't always turn out well for people. You can be
- 4:12Speaker 2: absolutely dominant and amazing in your weight class. You go
- 4:15Speaker 2: up one weight class and it just doesn't work out,
- 4:18Speaker 2: doesn't fit with your style, your body shape, whatever. So, yeah,
- 4:22Speaker 2: I don't see it as a guaranteed win for either guy. Also, too,
- 4:27Speaker 2: if you're Pitbull, you've got to take a chance. You've
- 4:29Speaker 2: got to take a chance to move up because also
- 4:31Speaker 2: this is probably one of the last paydays for Pitbull, too.
- 4:35Speaker 2: like I don't see, you know, he's not going to
- 4:37Speaker 2: get another opportunity like this. So it makes sense.
- 4:40Speaker 1: It will draw. Well, you know, next people will travel
- 4:43Speaker 1: by the fight, go to fight the whole nine. So
- 4:46Speaker 1: across the board, it makes a ton of sense.
- 4:49Speaker 2: Well, I was curious. I want to get your take
- 4:50Speaker 2: on something. You know, we had talked about if Brian
- 4:53Speaker 2: has a tuna fight in December, then comes back to me.
- 4:55Speaker 2: We said that also would be good just because he's
- 4:57Speaker 2: out there and, you know, he's, he's visible and active,
- 4:59Speaker 2: but I don't see people as a tuna fight, but,
- 5:02Speaker 2: That's something I guess it's always been vibes. What would
- 5:04Speaker 2: you call a tune-up fight? What makes it a tune-up
- 5:07Speaker 2: fight as opposed to anything else?
- 5:09Speaker 1: A tune-up fight is basically a fight against a guy
- 5:12Speaker 1: that's non-threatening. That's not a threat to put you down.
- 5:16Speaker 1: It might be a fast guy or a skilled guy,
- 5:18Speaker 1: but they're not a threat to really knock you down.
- 5:21Speaker 1: You're really there to get back in shape to work
- 5:23Speaker 1: out some things you need to work out. Let's say
- 5:25Speaker 1: you're coming back from an injury. Let's say you're coming
- 5:27Speaker 1: back from a long layoff or whatever that reason may be.
- 5:30Speaker 1: you want to come in against a guy that's not
- 5:32Speaker 1: a threat to, you know, really lose, but really to
- 5:36Speaker 1: hurt you. That's basically the definition. In my opinion, that's
- 5:39Speaker 1: the definition of a tune-up fight. However, in this day
- 5:42Speaker 1: and age, I don't know because things are way different
- 5:45Speaker 1: now and guys are kind of selecting their opponents more.
- 5:50Speaker 1: Back in the day when that wasn't the case as much,
- 5:53Speaker 1: tune-up fights were way different, but now guys are selected
- 5:56Speaker 1: who they fight, so it's just way, way different now.
- 5:58Speaker 1: But yeah, I think that If you're on the A
- 6:02Speaker 1: side of the card, you would select someone that's not
- 6:05Speaker 1: a threat to really beat you. That's really the definition
- 6:07Speaker 1: of a tune-up fight. If you lose a tune-up fight,
- 6:09Speaker 1: it gets dicey because then it's like all hell broke
- 6:12Speaker 1: loose and that's never good.
- 6:14Speaker 2: Well, and I appreciate that because it's something that I've
- 6:17Speaker 2: said that I've, like I said, I know the concept.
- 6:19Speaker 2: I understand the idea, but it seems to me that
- 6:23Speaker 2: a lot of people think of a tune-up fight as
- 6:24Speaker 2: just a fighter they know fighting a name they don't know.
- 6:28Speaker 2: And I don't think that's fair. especially because you never
- 6:31Speaker 2: know what can happen. Upsets can happen. And plus, too,
- 6:34Speaker 2: there's all the noise that I always try to cut
- 6:36Speaker 2: through of like, oh, this fighter has fought nobody just
- 6:41Speaker 2: because they don't know the names of the guys from
- 6:43Speaker 2: Eastern Europe, whatever. And I kind of hate that. But yeah,
- 6:48Speaker 2: I mean, and as a concept, I understand wanting to
- 6:51Speaker 2: get back to a tune-up fight in between to stay
- 6:55Speaker 2: active and get paid.
- 6:56Speaker 1: That's cool.
- 6:57Speaker 2: Uh, so I, I don't like, you know, I don't
- 6:59Speaker 2: look down on fighters, uh, that, that take those fights
- 7:02Speaker 2: with lesser known.
- 7:03Speaker 1: Also a tune-up fight is not for everybody. Tune-up fights
- 7:06Speaker 1: only for the really elite guys. It's not for the
- 7:08Speaker 1: guys that aren't, you know, if you're a C fighter,
- 7:10Speaker 1: you are the tune-up fight. There's no tune-up fight. You
- 7:13Speaker 1: are the tune-up fight. So let's keep that in mind.
- 7:16Speaker 2: I i'm not trying to you know continue talking shit
- 7:18Speaker 2: or how far the guy but you know it is
- 7:19Speaker 2: roly romero is not taking a tuna fight he's become
- 7:22Speaker 2: a tuna fight.
- 7:23Speaker 1: Guy yeah there you go there you go exactly.
- 7:26Speaker 2: He had the opportunity to be the guy you know
- 7:28Speaker 2: to be.
- 7:28Speaker 1: He had a he had a round last fight where
- 7:30Speaker 1: if it would have went a different way who knows
- 7:32Speaker 1: but he just didn't take advantage of for whatever reason.
- 7:35Speaker 2: Yeah and then that's fair and you know what we
- 7:37Speaker 2: said i think we said in the group chat that
- 7:39Speaker 2: like not everybody is meant to be elite and that's
- 7:41Speaker 2: okay too you know but um But no, it'd be crazy. Okay,
- 7:46Speaker 2: I'll say this. This is all just kind of coming
- 7:48Speaker 2: out in the last, I guess, whatever, 24, 48 hours, rather,
- 7:52Speaker 2: from when we're recording this. So anything can happen. Nothing
- 7:55Speaker 2: is guaranteed. But my respect for Ryan personally will go
- 7:59Speaker 2: up tenfold if he does fight Pitbull in December and
- 8:02Speaker 2: still comes back to fight Teofimo in May. Because, yeah,
- 8:07Speaker 2: the way he's going right now, you want to see
- 8:08Speaker 2: him more often. He's a draw. He makes money. He
- 8:11Speaker 2: brings in the crowd. So he could probably fight Pretty
- 8:14Speaker 2: much anybody in December, he'd get a crowd, eyeballs watching,
- 8:18Speaker 2: et cetera.
- 8:18Speaker 1: I'd watch, of course.
- 8:20Speaker 2: But for him to take a challenge, which Pitbull is, respect.
- 8:24Speaker 2: But what about you? How has your opinion on Ryan
- 8:28Speaker 2: changed if all of this happens as we're talking about it?
- 8:32Speaker 1: I'm not necessarily– my opinion wouldn't change necessarily much from
- 8:34Speaker 1: what it is now. It's more of like I appreciate
- 8:38Speaker 1: him for taking the challenge because we're basically applauding boxers
- 8:41Speaker 1: for what they should be doing. So I wouldn't necessarily
- 8:44Speaker 1: change my respect level. I would appreciate him more for
- 8:47Speaker 1: doing it because a lot of guys are not doing it.
- 8:49Speaker 1: With that being said, he's making up for lost time.
- 8:53Speaker 1: He's making up for time that, because he went a
- 8:55Speaker 1: while for it without fighting. And then when he did
- 8:57Speaker 1: come back, the fights weren't necessarily great. So he's trying
- 9:00Speaker 1: to get back in the swing of things. Like his
- 9:02Speaker 1: last five fights have a lot of weird results on it.
- 9:05Speaker 1: Like it's a very weird record and weird results. So
- 9:09Speaker 1: glad he's back in action. Glad he's back on track.
- 9:12Speaker 1: But I'd like to see him fight in December if
- 9:14Speaker 1: that's going to be the case.
- 9:16Speaker 2: Yeah, and he had actually previously taken time away, he said,
- 9:19Speaker 2: for mental health reasons. I don't remember exactly the dates.
- 9:21Speaker 2: That was like, it's all fuzzy because, you know, it
- 9:24Speaker 2: was the road at the time. But I remember there
- 9:26Speaker 2: was a big to-do about him coming back in the ring.
- 9:29Speaker 2: And that's a fight, I forget who his opponent was,
- 9:32Speaker 2: but that's a fight I got to see in movie
- 9:33Speaker 2: theaters the first time I went to a theater for
- 9:35Speaker 2: a fight, which is really.
- 9:36Speaker 1: Really cool.
- 9:37Speaker 2: But yeah, there was a big to-do. That's after he
- 9:40Speaker 2: split with... Canelo's camp. It was from Eddie Reynoso. But yeah,
- 9:45Speaker 2: for somebody as popular as him and with the potential
- 9:48Speaker 2: to be a star, forget about even being the quality
- 9:51Speaker 2: of fighter, just ignoring that to be a star, he
- 9:54Speaker 2: can't have been away for for that long. He's 28,
- 9:58Speaker 2: still young, but you know, as we know after 30,
- 10:01Speaker 2: you know, boxing is a young man's game.
- 10:04Speaker 1: Especially how he fights. He's a fast guy, speed guy,
- 10:07Speaker 1: you know, athletic guy that doesn't really age well. So
- 10:11Speaker 1: those things, you know, you want to take advantage of
- 10:13Speaker 1: that as much as possible in your youth.
- 10:16Speaker 2: Right.
- 10:16Speaker 1: Right.
- 10:16Speaker 2: And, uh, Yeah, I think one thing specifically that sort
- 10:19Speaker 2: of gives me hope for him, you know, kind of
- 10:21Speaker 2: becoming elite and living up to the hype is that
- 10:25Speaker 2: he has made changes. You know, everybody said one trick pony.
- 10:28Speaker 2: It's that left. It's super strong. But that's what if
- 10:30Speaker 2: he catches it with that, that's it. But if you
- 10:31Speaker 2: can get around that, that's what Tank did. He was
- 10:34Speaker 2: smart enough to not get caught with that. And now
- 10:37Speaker 2: he's developing his skills. We just talked a few weeks
- 10:40Speaker 2: ago about Moses Atama. He's a knockout guy. Never had
- 10:42Speaker 2: to go past round six. And when he did, he
- 10:44Speaker 2: gassed the hell out.
- 10:45Speaker 1: So.
- 10:47Speaker 2: you never want to rely on just being able to
- 10:50Speaker 2: use knockout power, especially with just one hand, if that's
- 10:53Speaker 2: your thing. The fact that he is developing his skills,
- 10:57Speaker 2: you know, kind of really gives me hope for him.
- 10:59Speaker 2: And yeah, you know, and I'm not just trying to
- 11:03Speaker 2: get back at his fans good graces after they shat
- 11:05Speaker 2: on me for thinking that money about us would beat him.
- 11:08Speaker 2: I'm here, you know, being totally honest about why to
- 11:10Speaker 2: believe about Ryan's future. So speaking of, people that, uh,
- 11:17Speaker 2: will be fighting, could be fighting on Cinco de Mayo, uh,
- 11:19Speaker 2: tell Fimo, he's actually got a mandatory in Jack Catterall. Uh,
- 11:24Speaker 2: and if he comes back December as well, you know,
- 11:26Speaker 2: we saw him twice this year, which I really hope
- 11:29Speaker 2: that's another thing for, you know, a guy like him
- 11:31Speaker 2: that is still, is still a good fighter. Um, definitely
- 11:35Speaker 2: the loss to Shakur wasn't because he was sucked or
- 11:38Speaker 2: was over the hill or anything like that. He just
- 11:39Speaker 2: got bested that night. Uh, I don't know, man, I, we,
- 11:43Speaker 2: we have to get these guys in, in the ring
- 11:46Speaker 2: more often, especially since they're, you know, tell him also
- 11:50Speaker 2: been around, got some shit on his tires. We don't
- 11:52Speaker 2: want him to go downhill physically, all this and that.
- 11:57Speaker 2: I hope that these guys realize that this is the
- 11:59Speaker 2: time to squeeze the most that they can out of
- 12:01Speaker 2: the boxing game for their careers. And also for us
- 12:04Speaker 2: as fans, you know, I saw a Tik TOK video
- 12:07Speaker 2: and I forgot the creator. I didn't save it. My bad,
- 12:10Speaker 2: but he's saying that, you know, no, Pound for Pound
- 12:12Speaker 2: Fighter has a fight schedule at the moment. Nobody on
- 12:17Speaker 2: the top of the list. And I get that. And
- 12:20Speaker 2: he was saying, like, oh, this year's kind of shitty
- 12:21Speaker 2: for boxing. I disagree because we had a great summer. But, yeah,
- 12:26Speaker 2: the championship names need to have more fights more often. But, yeah.
- 12:32Speaker 2: And a part of it was Shakur hasn't announced anything.
- 12:34Speaker 2: He said something like, announcement coming soon. And I'm like,
- 12:36Speaker 2: come on, let's make it snappy.
- 12:38Speaker 1: That, but also it's like... The announcement we're going to get,
- 12:43Speaker 1: we're not going to be happy with. That's going to
- 12:44Speaker 1: be the issue. He's not going to fight someone that
- 12:47Speaker 1: we're going to be happy he's fighting. I think that's
- 12:49Speaker 1: the problem. We don't mind you taking a long time
- 12:51Speaker 1: if you're fighting somebody that we want to see you fight.
- 12:53Speaker 1: You're going to fight someone that's very lackluster. We're like, ah,
- 12:57Speaker 1: we waited all this time for this. That's the issue.
- 13:00Speaker 1: That's the problem. If you're fighting twice a year, cool,
- 13:03Speaker 1: but if we're waiting all this time and we still
- 13:05Speaker 1: don't have a name and we're going to wind up
- 13:07Speaker 1: with somebody random, I'm cool.
- 13:11Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, at the end of the day, of course,
- 13:12Speaker 2: I want to see more fights and I want to
- 13:14Speaker 2: see Shikura in the ring, but yeah, I'd rather people
- 13:19Speaker 2: fight more often, including a name that we don't know
- 13:21Speaker 2: here and there, but I mean, who could he fight
- 13:23Speaker 2: that we would be happy with?
- 13:25Speaker 1: Haney?
- 13:25Speaker 2: Haney would be good.
- 13:27Speaker 1: Hitchens would be good. I mean, we have all these names.
- 13:29Speaker 1: I mean, Ryan would be good. That's also a big
- 13:33Speaker 1: fight just in terms of popularity and whatnot and buzz,
- 13:37Speaker 1: but We've seen other guys from different eras fight a
- 13:41Speaker 1: lot of guys. So, this whole fighting once a year.
- 13:44Speaker 1: I know you fought, what, in January? Yes. You fought
- 13:46Speaker 1: in January. So, now we're nine months away from that.
- 13:49Speaker 1: And there's no announcement. So, we're probably looking at another
- 13:51Speaker 1: year before another fight. I mean, I guess, like, cool.
- 13:57Speaker 1: But that's not good. Like, when you're the guy, when
- 14:01Speaker 1: you're probably the best current boxer living, you've got to
- 14:04Speaker 1: fight more than once a year, man. Even if it
- 14:06Speaker 1: was a tune-up fight in June. Just stay active. Just
- 14:09Speaker 1: remind people, like, I'm that MF. I'm that guy. Cool. Cool. Like,
- 14:15Speaker 1: that's what's up. But to me, unless he got hurt,
- 14:19Speaker 1: unless there's a hand injury or something like that, then, again,
- 14:21Speaker 1: I totally understand that. But to our knowledge, that has
- 14:24Speaker 1: not been the case. So looking at it now, it's like, bro,
- 14:27Speaker 1: why are you waiting a year? Because whatever fight that
- 14:30Speaker 1: is trying to get made, it feels like it can't
- 14:33Speaker 1: get made already. I don't see anything out there lingering.
- 14:36Speaker 1: that is on hold because of this or that. I don't,
- 14:38Speaker 1: I don't see that, but who knows? Who knows? Yeah.
- 14:42Speaker 2: And let's say, you know, if he announces it today
- 14:43Speaker 2: or tomorrow, uh, we, you've always said, you know, it's
- 14:46Speaker 2: about a three month time period out before the fight happens.
- 14:50Speaker 2: Even so that puts us December and that's just like, yeah,
- 14:52Speaker 2: it's 11 months instead of 12. Like that's not good.
- 14:54Speaker 1: We rarely see big fights in December for a lot
- 14:57Speaker 1: of reasons. Usually late November, really the weekend before Thanksgiving
- 15:02Speaker 1: is probably the cutoff time. You can get away with
- 15:05Speaker 1: the first weekend in December. After that with holidays, it's
- 15:08Speaker 1: really tough because people are already traveling. People already got
- 15:10Speaker 1: stuff going on. School's getting out for colleges and stuff.
- 15:14Speaker 1: So right now would be the two-month mark before Thanksgiving.
- 15:19Speaker 1: That would be like right around this. So if we
- 15:21Speaker 1: got an announcement this week, all right, cool. You can
- 15:24Speaker 1: make it happen. Other than that, I don't see anything
- 15:26Speaker 1: happening this year. I don't. You're probably at the same
- 15:28Speaker 1: time as this past year with him. It looked like
- 15:31Speaker 1: early January.
- 15:32Speaker 2: Yeah, and that is a bummer. Of course, I'm a fan.
- 15:35Speaker 2: We'll show up. But it's too long, especially for somebody
- 15:39Speaker 2: that is the guy right now. You've got to stay
- 15:42Speaker 2: in the public consciousness. And he does. We've said it before.
- 15:44Speaker 2: He does a good job of being out and interviews events,
- 15:48Speaker 2: being involved and talking about boxing, commentating, et cetera, which
- 15:52Speaker 2: is cool because you want to stay in the public consciousness.
- 15:54Speaker 2: But at the end of the day, we come to
- 15:56Speaker 2: see you kick ass, not give your opinion on– on
- 16:00Speaker 2: other fights. No disrespect to any boxers that are commentators.
- 16:05Speaker 2: And then speaking of the people that Shakur is signed with, Zufa.
- 16:09Speaker 2: So it's very interesting. I noticed, I was looking at
- 16:11Speaker 2: the schedule. This Saturday, they have a big showcase in London.
- 16:15Speaker 2: Zufa does. No names that I recognize. But 10 fights,
- 16:20Speaker 2: which is cool. And I was just kind of thinking like,
- 16:22Speaker 2: that's kind of more what they should have been doing
- 16:23Speaker 2: is trying to build up new names as opposed to keep,
- 16:25Speaker 2: you know, bringing in these big names to fight nobody
- 16:30Speaker 2: in Shakur's case at the moment, right?
- 16:32Speaker 1: Right.
- 16:33Speaker 2: I feel like if Zufa really wanted to be in the,
- 16:36Speaker 2: get in the foothold of the boxing game, a lot
- 16:38Speaker 2: of events, definitely more, bringing in more unknowns, building up
- 16:43Speaker 2: more often. I mean, that's what UFC does. They kind
- 16:47Speaker 2: of put the cart before the horse, but that's because
- 16:49Speaker 2: when you have a shitload of money to spend, might
- 16:51Speaker 2: as well spend it. But I don't know. I mean,
- 16:53Speaker 2: what do you think in terms of like, I'll put
- 16:56Speaker 2: it to you this way. What the hell should Zufa
- 16:58Speaker 2: do in order to get us to take them seriously
- 17:01Speaker 2: as a real player in the boxing scene?
- 17:03Speaker 1: It's always about the matchups. It's always about the fights.
- 17:05Speaker 1: I mean, the Hitchens, Keyshawn Davis, that's being rumored, is
- 17:10Speaker 1: a good start. But we need more of that. Like,
- 17:12Speaker 1: that's what we're promised. We're promised, hey, we're going to
- 17:14Speaker 1: have all these big fights, big names, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 17:17Speaker 1: Which is cool. However, it does undercut a lot of
- 17:20Speaker 1: the underfighters that aren't headlining guys. How do they get paid?
- 17:24Speaker 2: Because.
- 17:25Speaker 1: If no one's coming to see them fight, then they
- 17:27Speaker 1: don't get paid. So, again, there's a lot of different things.
- 17:30Speaker 1: We were told that all these fighters would be fighting
- 17:32Speaker 1: more often. They'd be fighting other big names. That's all
- 17:35Speaker 1: we're here to see, man. Everything else is everything else.
- 17:37Speaker 1: We don't care about nothing else. We want to see
- 17:38Speaker 1: the names fight each other. We want to see the
- 17:40Speaker 1: guys constantly fight. That's it. Like, we were told, like, hey,
- 17:43Speaker 1: Dana White's involved. He's going to get guys to fight.
- 17:45Speaker 1: All right, cool. Like, that sounds good in theory. We
- 17:48Speaker 1: ain't seen shit yet. Like, to be honest, like, we
- 17:50Speaker 1: ain't seen that yet. Like, so we'll see. I mean,
- 17:53Speaker 1: it's early. It's young, but I don't have a lot of,
- 17:58Speaker 1: I don't have as much confidence like I did when
- 18:01Speaker 1: it first got announced that we'd see all these fights. Again,
- 18:04Speaker 1: it's early, it's young. I just feel that today's boxers
- 18:08Speaker 1: are a different athlete. Like, I think they're waiting for
- 18:11Speaker 1: that one big, big payday. And then once they do
- 18:13Speaker 1: get paid, it's like, ah, I'll figure it out as
- 18:16Speaker 1: it comes. I'm not really trying to, you know, I'm
- 18:19Speaker 1: not trying to really do too much. So I get paid,
- 18:21Speaker 1: depends on my $ 20 million. That's never had $ 20 million.
- 18:25Speaker 1: The work ethic is going to be different. Everything changes.
- 18:27Speaker 1: So I just don't know. I'm very fascinated by this
- 18:31Speaker 1: whole thing. But the era is different. Like the era
- 18:33Speaker 1: is different. And also, too, I think about as well,
- 18:36Speaker 1: the boxers now, especially the guys with names like the
- 18:39Speaker 1: Boots and Shakurs and, you know, even Ryan, like back
- 18:43Speaker 1: in the day when they were coming up, they weren't
- 18:45Speaker 1: getting paid much. Nowadays, they're all getting paid a lot
- 18:48Speaker 1: of money earlier on. So it's way different business-wise. And
- 18:52Speaker 1: to a good thing, yes. But in terms of the
- 18:55Speaker 1: fighting and whatnot, it feels like we're getting less and
- 18:58Speaker 1: less fights as time goes on. And I don't think
- 19:01Speaker 1: that's great for the sport, but it's good for the
- 19:03Speaker 1: boxers because they're not all busted up by 30 either.
- 19:06Speaker 1: So it's a weird cause and effect thing that's going
- 19:09Speaker 1: on right now. But when it comes to Zufa, we've
- 19:11Speaker 1: been promised bigger fights, more fights, and I get to
- 19:13Speaker 1: see it.
- 19:15Speaker 2: Same. And a lot of the commenters on social media,
- 19:19Speaker 2: anytime Zufa comes up, I see a lot of it.
- 19:21Speaker 2: Dana White's going to save the sport. Dana White is
- 19:24Speaker 2: the guy to do... I haven't seen shit to believe that.
- 19:27Speaker 2: It's a fanboy talk.
- 19:29Speaker 1: That is like, what has Dana White showed you that
- 19:33Speaker 1: he's going to improve boxing? What has he done? What
- 19:36Speaker 1: he does at UFC, UFC is a totally different sport.
- 19:38Speaker 1: UFC fighters get paid way differently. So whatever he's doing
- 19:41Speaker 1: at UFC does not translate well to boxing. It just doesn't.
- 19:46Speaker 1: It's two different sports, two different situations. So I don't
- 19:49Speaker 1: know him... saving the sports thing. I'm going to tell
- 19:51Speaker 1: you what saves the sport. I'm going to tell you
- 19:53Speaker 1: what makes the sport great. It's having great fights like
- 19:56Speaker 1: anything else. The best thing to do is put on
- 19:58Speaker 1: a great production, a great show. When you have good fights,
- 20:01Speaker 1: great fights back to back to back to back, it
- 20:04Speaker 1: causes the random casual sports fan and person to tune
- 20:08Speaker 1: in next time. That's what you want. When we don't
- 20:12Speaker 1: have your stars fighting, that's a problem. You have to
- 20:15Speaker 1: have your guys, your guy guys fighting as often as
- 20:21Speaker 1: they can because the public needs to see them. If
- 20:24Speaker 1: your public is not able to view them, then that
- 20:27Speaker 1: is a problem.
- 20:29Speaker 2: Yeah, and I'll give a little bit of grace and
- 20:31Speaker 2: credit here as that, you know, because Dana White's got
- 20:34Speaker 2: his deal with Paramount Plus, this event is going to
- 20:36Speaker 2: be on there this Saturday. So It's good to know
- 20:41Speaker 2: that it's easy to find you know where it is,
- 20:42Speaker 2: whether how many people pay for Paramount Plus is a
- 20:44Speaker 2: whole other conversation. But if they're going to have more events,
- 20:49Speaker 2: even with, like I said, with lesser known names, people
- 20:50Speaker 2: that I don't recognize, I know that it's good to
- 20:53Speaker 2: know that that's where it's going to be. And as always,
- 20:57Speaker 2: if it's going to be in London, the time will
- 20:58Speaker 2: be different. But all two did. I don't like Dana
- 21:02Speaker 2: White personally. But I'm not here to bitch about getting
- 21:07Speaker 2: more fights and good fights and seeing up-and-coming names that
- 21:09Speaker 2: I want to be a fan of, right? That's never
- 21:11Speaker 2: been the problem, guys.
- 21:12Speaker 1: Right, right.
- 21:13Speaker 2: So give me– give us more action. Give us some
- 21:17Speaker 2: young guys that are up-and-coming that I can follow and
- 21:20Speaker 2: I'm happy. I'm the easiest lay in the world when
- 21:23Speaker 2: it comes to boxing, man. I love it so much.
- 21:25Speaker 2: I'll watch anybody fight. But yeah, they did a lot
- 21:28Speaker 2: of talking and haven't really– don't really have much to
- 21:32Speaker 2: show for it as far as I'm concerned.
- 21:34Speaker 1: Right.
- 21:35Speaker 2: Well, uh, another topic here, it's kind of a, it's
- 21:38Speaker 2: like a, uh, speed around this episode because I got
- 21:40Speaker 2: a little, a lot of little things to talk about.
- 21:41Speaker 2: This actually, I just saw this before we got on
- 21:44Speaker 2: the mic. I didn't even put it in the show notes,
- 21:45Speaker 2: but have you heard anything about the Canelo fight on
- 21:48Speaker 2: Halloween potentially being pushed back again?
- 21:50Speaker 1: No, I didn't see that. Yeah, I didn't see that.
- 21:53Speaker 2: Because of the war, the war in Iran, Riyadh is,
- 21:56Speaker 2: there's potential for like attacks in Riyadh. Um, I literally
- 22:00Speaker 2: saw this like 15 minutes ago.
- 22:02Speaker 1: Um, That actually makes sense now.
- 22:06Speaker 2: Yeah, so it's scheduled for Halloween, October 31st, and there
- 22:11Speaker 2: was already some put out, again, and I apologize for
- 22:13Speaker 2: not having the details. It was some scrolling that, you know,
- 22:17Speaker 2: I wrote down in manual notes without, you know, taking
- 22:19Speaker 2: names and stuff, but there was like a tweet or
- 22:21Speaker 2: something that said it's already, there's already a backup date
- 22:24Speaker 2: in November, I think November 15th or something, for Vegas.
- 22:27Speaker 2: So they're not just, yeah, they're not just talking about potential, oh, like, oh,
- 22:32Speaker 2: we'll see what happens. Like, It looks like it's already been.
- 22:35Speaker 1: So if you have a backup date, that means you've
- 22:37Speaker 1: already signed paperwork with an arena in Vegas.
- 22:39Speaker 2: Okay.
- 22:40Speaker 1: That means you've already signed something with T-Mobile. And November's
- 22:43Speaker 1: a very busy month for Vegas. You have a lot
- 22:45Speaker 1: of basketball and other events. So that means they already
- 22:47Speaker 1: have something scheduled there. So that makes sense. If there's
- 22:50Speaker 1: a date that's floated, that means it's already been. Because
- 22:51Speaker 1: dates just don't come out of thin air. It doesn't
- 22:53Speaker 1: work that way. You literally have to have something. You've
- 22:56Speaker 1: got to plan that in advance because you've got to
- 22:58Speaker 1: hire security, insure everything. So if there's a date floated
- 23:01Speaker 1: out there, that means that that's probably going to be happening.
- 23:04Speaker 2: Yeah, and we record this a little behind the scenes.
- 23:07Speaker 2: We record this on Tuesdays every week. So maybe by
- 23:10Speaker 2: the time that this comes out or maybe next week
- 23:12Speaker 2: or whatever, there'll be an official announcement. But based on
- 23:16Speaker 2: what you're saying about how ahead of time you have
- 23:18Speaker 2: to have this sorted out, I would not be surprised
- 23:20Speaker 2: if they just make that change and he gets pushed
- 23:22Speaker 2: back again. So that's crazy. I mean, it's like a
- 23:26Speaker 2: crazy time for everything in the world. But the fact
- 23:30Speaker 2: that the Saudis' money is, Getting taken up a lot
- 23:33Speaker 2: with all the global affairs.
- 23:36Speaker 1: Also, you don't want to risk people. People don't want
- 23:38Speaker 1: to risk their safety. So fighting over there, going over
- 23:41Speaker 1: there is a risk right now. That's not the easiest
- 23:44Speaker 1: travel situation. So I can see a lot of parties
- 23:47Speaker 1: being like, no, you're not getting anybody from here going
- 23:50Speaker 1: over there. That's not happening. The media is traveling over there.
- 23:54Speaker 1: So who's going to go? And also, you're Canelo. Do
- 24:00Speaker 1: you want to go over there right now?
- 24:02Speaker 2: Don't think so yeah i mean the i i've never
- 24:06Speaker 2: loved how all the not all but like a lot
- 24:08Speaker 2: of the big name fights were switched to to riyadh
- 24:11Speaker 2: because i mean still like that's cool and all but
- 24:14Speaker 2: even so vibe in vegas vibe in the east coast
- 24:16Speaker 2: and msg it's never the same you know as as
- 24:20Speaker 2: the vibes and on the u.s but uh nothing against
- 24:23Speaker 2: it whatever you know but uh i canelo vegas is
- 24:27Speaker 2: your home come on come on back come on back
- 24:29Speaker 2: so i'm actually kind of excited um if he does
- 24:31Speaker 2: come in vegas you know maybe i can try to
- 24:33Speaker 2: make it uh depending on a lot of stuff but
- 24:36Speaker 2: uh yeah i just wanted to put that out there
- 24:38Speaker 2: to make sure that you know we're on the pulse
- 24:40Speaker 2: figure on the pulse of the boxing world uh and
- 24:43Speaker 2: then speaking of fights for the rest of this year
- 24:45Speaker 2: so we've got uh eminem navarrete versus a shaki foster
- 24:48Speaker 2: uh october and then Canelo, October maybe, November. But then
- 24:53Speaker 2: I looked at the schedule and it seems like a
- 24:54Speaker 2: bit quiet. I don't know. I mean, here's a question
- 24:58Speaker 2: for you. Do we need to see a bunch more fights?
- 25:01Speaker 2: We always want to see them. But before the end
- 25:02Speaker 2: of the year, are we being greedy? Because like I said,
- 25:05Speaker 2: we had a very active summer. Like how would you
- 25:07Speaker 2: feel if everything calms down?
- 25:08Speaker 1: No, you've got to have as many fights as possible.
- 25:10Speaker 1: You have to. Because you want to go into the
- 25:12Speaker 1: year setting up other fights. So you don't want to
- 25:14Speaker 1: just have a great summer and then have a bad
- 25:17Speaker 1: or slow last third of the year. or fourth of
- 25:19Speaker 1: the year, you want to have a lot of action
- 25:21Speaker 1: going into the end of the year. So you build
- 25:23Speaker 1: up the beginning of the year. So you want to
- 25:24Speaker 1: build up your first quarter based on, Hey man, we
- 25:26Speaker 1: had a lot of great action last quarter. Let's continue
- 25:29Speaker 1: that with this and going into new year with other matchups.
- 25:31Speaker 1: That's how you keep the sport going. That's how you
- 25:33Speaker 1: have current matchups. People start talking about potential matchups. That's
- 25:35Speaker 1: how it's supposed to be.
- 25:37Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean, I, and of course there's a lot
- 25:40Speaker 2: of names that I, that, that, you know, aren't familiar
- 25:42Speaker 2: to me that are on the schedule and, but a
- 25:43Speaker 2: lot of stuff in Japan and London and Europe overall. So,
- 25:47Speaker 2: but in terms of like, which big name is going
- 25:51Speaker 2: to fight in Vegas at the end of this year
- 25:53Speaker 2: or MSG at the end of this year? I don't
- 25:55Speaker 2: see anybody. I don't see anybody scheduled. So I'm kind
- 25:59Speaker 2: of curious as to what's going to happen from here
- 26:02Speaker 2: on out and who can fight, who can be scheduled,
- 26:08Speaker 2: if they even can before the end of 2026, because
- 26:10Speaker 2: we just talked about a second ago, we're getting up
- 26:13Speaker 2: to where it would be December before a fight would
- 26:15Speaker 2: get scheduled for this year.
- 26:17Speaker 1: That and also, too, is we don't have– there's not
- 26:22Speaker 1: enough time now because guys don't want to fight during
- 26:24Speaker 1: the holidays. That's the one thing we don't do. Like,
- 26:27Speaker 1: guys are not fighting during the holidays. It just doesn't
- 26:30Speaker 1: happen like that. So I'd be surprised if that happened.
- 26:33Speaker 1: With that being said, I don't expect any big fights
- 26:36Speaker 1: to happen for the end of the year. I think
- 26:37Speaker 1: you have a lot of stuff going into next year. Also,
- 26:40Speaker 1: like we just mentioned with the Canelo thing, the venues.
- 26:44Speaker 1: A lot of the venues are already taken up. for
- 26:46Speaker 1: the last part of the year as well. There's a
- 26:48Speaker 1: lot of, you know, NBA, college basketball, concerts, et cetera.
- 26:52Speaker 1: If it's not already scheduled, it's going to be very
- 26:55Speaker 1: difficult to fit that in at this point in time.
- 26:57Speaker 1: If you wake up tomorrow saying you want to fight.
- 27:00Speaker 1: So that's why I'm like, yeah, I don't know. I,
- 27:04Speaker 1: I'm very curious on that because I just don't think
- 27:07Speaker 1: that that's going to work. We'll see. We'll see. But
- 27:09Speaker 1: it feels like, you know, beginning of the year, we're
- 27:11Speaker 1: going to have more fights. Yeah.
- 27:14Speaker 2: And, Like I said, I'm not trying to come off
- 27:16Speaker 2: like a complainer or anything. I just want to see
- 27:19Speaker 2: more matchups. But, yeah, I mean, a lot of the
- 27:21Speaker 2: big names. In a way, you know, he fights so
- 27:24Speaker 2: much that, you know, we don't expect to see him back.
- 27:25Speaker 2: And we know we're going to see him back in
- 27:27Speaker 2: the early 2027. Haney, I don't know what the hell
- 27:29Speaker 2: he's waiting for to schedule something. Hell, even if you
- 27:33Speaker 2: want to say you're fighting in January, Haney, like, why
- 27:36Speaker 2: don't we hear anything now? Or, like, at least rumors
- 27:38Speaker 2: or anything like that. It's just been kind of persona
- 27:40Speaker 2: non grata, which kind of sucks. Uh, and then, you know, poor, uh,
- 27:46Speaker 2: poor Canelo can just keep getting pushed back, back and
- 27:48Speaker 2: back and back. Uh, but we don't have a lot
- 27:50Speaker 2: of fights for him coming up soon. So, I mean,
- 27:53Speaker 2: what names are, can we look forward to? Benavidez said
- 27:57Speaker 2: maybe December.
- 27:59Speaker 1: Yep. That, that late November, December with him, that's probably
- 28:02Speaker 1: the biggest one left, which is cool, which is cool.
- 28:04Speaker 1: No issue there, but it just feels like we need
- 28:07Speaker 1: a little bit more. It'd be cool to have a
- 28:09Speaker 1: little bit more. Yeah. Um, I don't know.
- 28:12Speaker 2: I mean, the, uh, The summer has been great. Like, fantastic.
- 28:17Speaker 2: More than I can hope for. But the cool thing
- 28:19Speaker 2: about the fight that just happened, the Ryan and Benavidez fight,
- 28:22Speaker 2: is yeah, they did exactly what you said. They're already
- 28:25Speaker 2: talking about their next match in May. And here, hell,
- 28:29Speaker 2: it feeds us as podcasters to get to speculate. Oh,
- 28:32Speaker 2: what if Ryan does fight Teo? What if Benavidez does
- 28:35Speaker 2: fight Javadat? So we're going to be left kind of
- 28:38Speaker 2: hungry for the end of the year to talk about
- 28:41Speaker 2: potential matchups. So I'm okay with not a lot of
- 28:44Speaker 2: more fights in 2026, but we got to see some
- 28:47Speaker 2: dudes get scheduled for January at the latest.
- 28:50Speaker 1: Right.
- 28:50Speaker 2: Pretty soon. Because, yeah, we have such momentum that we
- 28:55Speaker 2: don't want to give it up. Correct. But anyway, yeah,
- 28:58Speaker 2: that's about what I had here. So, Jameson, where can
- 29:01Speaker 2: people find you on social media?
