- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Hello, Christians.
- 0:02SPEAKER_00: This is Dallas Beecham.
- 0:04SPEAKER_00: And I've got good news.
- 0:07SPEAKER_00: A crowd had gathered in Jerusalem.
- 0:10SPEAKER_00: They had heard the sound from heaven.
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: They had heard Galileans speaking in languages they had never learned.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: Some said they were drunk, but Peter stood and declared, These are not drunk as you suppose, but this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel.
- 0:28SPEAKER_00: Peter did not stop with a miracle.
- 0:30SPEAKER_00: He turned the crowd's attention to Jesus.
- 0:33SPEAKER_00: Peter said, You men of Israel, hear these words.
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: Then he spoke plainly about Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God, among you by miracles and wonders and signs.
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: The crowd knew the events Peter described.
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: Jesus had walked among them.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: The sick had been healed.
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: Blind eyes had opened.
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: The lame had walked.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: The dead had been raised.
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: These things were not done in a corner.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: Then Peter spoke words that must have settled heavily over the crowd.
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: This Jesus had been delivered into wicked hands.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: He had been crucified and slain.
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: Yet the cross was not the end of the story.
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: Peter declared that God had raised Jesus from the dead.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: Death could not hold him.
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: The grave could not silence God's anointed.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: Peter turned back to David's words and showed that Scripture had pointed to the resurrection.
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: Then Peter testified, This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: The apostles were not repeating a rumor.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: They had seen the risen Christ.
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: They had spoken with him.
- 1:56SPEAKER_00: They had watched him ascend into heaven.
- 1:59SPEAKER_00: Peter explained, therefore, being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he had shed forth this which you now see and hear.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: The sound from heaven, the tongues, and the praises in many languages all pointed to the risen exalted Christ.
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: Then Peter brought the sermon to its conclusion.
- 2:28SPEAKER_00: Therefore, let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God hath made that same Jesus, whom you have crucified, both Lord and Christ.
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: There was no applause recorded.
- 2:44SPEAKER_00: No one congratulated Peter on a fine sermon.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: Instead something happened inside the hearers.
- 2:52SPEAKER_00: Acts 237 says, Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart.
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: The message had moved from the ears to their hearts.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: They could no longer speak only about what others had done.
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: They saw their own need before God.
- 3:11SPEAKER_00: That is conviction.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: Conviction is not merely feeling bad.
- 3:17SPEAKER_00: It is the awakening that comes when the Word of God reveals where we stand and calls us to respond.
- 3:25SPEAKER_00: You can admire Jesus, discuss scripture, and even witness something remarkable, yet never let the truth reach your heart.
- 3:35SPEAKER_00: But this crowd did not run from conviction.
- 3:38SPEAKER_00: They did not argue with Peter.
- 3:40SPEAKER_00: They did not excuse themselves.
- 3:43SPEAKER_00: They turned to Peter and the rest of the apostles and asked, Men and brethren, what shall we do?
- 3:51SPEAKER_00: That may be one of the most important questions anyone can ask.
- 3:56SPEAKER_00: They did not ask, What should someone else do?
- 4:00SPEAKER_00: They asked, What shall we do?
- 4:03SPEAKER_00: Conviction had become personal.
- 4:05SPEAKER_00: They were ready for an answer.
- 4:08SPEAKER_00: Perhaps the word has reached your heart.
- 4:12SPEAKER_00: Perhaps you know God is calling you closer.
- 4:15SPEAKER_00: Do not silence that conviction.
- 4:17SPEAKER_00: It is not meant to drive you away from God, it is meant to turn you toward Him.
- 4:23SPEAKER_00: Tomorrow we will hear Peter's answer.
- 4:28SPEAKER_00: An answer given by the apostle who held the keys to the kingdom on the day that the church began.
- 4:35SPEAKER_00: I hope the message today touched your heart and causes you to have a good day.
