- 0:28Good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:31So, let's talk about exaggeration today, big subject
- 0:37because most of us are constantly exaggerating.
- 0:40And we don't even realize how much we do it.
- 0:43We love to have that, what's that old term spinning yarn make
- 0:47it bigger than it? Actually is be inflammatory
- 0:51about things and how they were said, and, you know,
- 0:54exaggeration can be a very difficult thing.
- 1:01Recognize in yourself because some of us just like to tell
- 1:03stories, myself included. So we have to be careful not to
- 1:07exaggerate and not to conflate issues.
- 1:10Mixing things up and trying to you know put too much into
- 1:14something where we're blending, our opinion with facts.
- 1:19That's been a lot of that going around in the last couple of
- 1:21years and it it definitely causes people to look at you
- 1:27differently when they think that you are not accurate factual.
- 1:31And you exaggerate all the time. So I thought it would be
- 1:34important to bring up the subtleties of where the shows up
- 1:37because communication is my thing.
- 1:40And I love to educate you guys on this.
- 1:43So, think about how much you exaggerate in your own head.
- 1:48We as a culture have a tendency to do with everything, like,
- 1:53simple little things, we go, oh my God, I'm starving.
- 1:56We have to get me food right now, I am starving.
- 2:01I've said the words myself, hangry.
- 2:04Over the top, but guess what? I'm not starving.
- 2:08I'm not going to die in a moment's notice.
- 2:10Just from not having food. I'm not going to have a complete
- 2:14and total meltdown. If I don't get the food.
- 2:17It mediately, I'm not a toddler. I'm a grown-ass woman and it's
- 2:21stupid how we do this but it's become, okay?
- 2:24It's become okay to be an exaggerator.
- 2:27One thing that I absolutely adore about my husband is that
- 2:31he's a very factual person. He's Very low-key and in his
- 2:36communication he's usually like. Well is that a fact or is that
- 2:40your opinion? Is that something that you know
- 2:43for sure I think you're exaggerating, you're not going
- 2:45to die, you know you're over the top with it when I got attacked
- 2:49by fire ants a couple weeks ago and I did get a lot of bites and
- 2:53it was extremely painful but I was not going to die they were
- 2:58not going to kill me but you might have thought I was by my
- 3:01reaction because I was over the top and you know, he's like Well
- 3:04clearly, you're never going on - afraid because you can't even
- 3:07get a few fire and B and B and you know, he was making a joke
- 3:11about it to minimize the situation even though he was
- 3:13helping me. But I was so focused on the fact
- 3:16that this awful, it's awful. I can't believe how bad it hurts
- 3:20and I was like out of control with it because it was
- 3:23unexpected and they crawled into my boots and if you've never
- 3:25been bitten by a fire it's not fun.
- 3:28So and down into my boots and it was just I got into a nest of
- 3:33them. Where I happen to live, there
- 3:36are a lot of them and I did exaggerate.
- 3:40And I know I did. And later on, I was like, okay,
- 3:43I said, I had hundreds and hundreds of bites and I probably
- 3:47had about 60. So it was not even close to
- 3:50hundreds and hundreds of bites, but in my mind, I quickly,
- 3:54exaggerated the fact, you know, it shows up in the smallest of
- 4:00places and we use language around it, that makes it It even
- 4:04worse will say things like like you go to dinner and you'll say
- 4:08this was outrageous. The food was so expensive, it
- 4:11was over the top and we instead of just saying the truth, we're
- 4:16okay. It was pricey compared to what
- 4:19we typically by but I wouldn't go so far as to say it was
- 4:22outrageous, you know or you know our culture right now is big on
- 4:27saying, it's offended by pretty much everything but really are
- 4:31we offended? Like, is it that or was it just
- 4:33that it Rubbed us the wrong way. And we have to watch this
- 4:38because it creates real challenges in our minds to get
- 4:42past with this real challenges to get past when we are putting
- 4:48up these little walls around ourselves and creating this
- 4:51drama in our heads. So I'm going to ask you guys to
- 4:55really start thinking about this and looking where am I being
- 4:57dramatic? Where am I telling accuracies,
- 5:02but where am I being over the top?
- 5:04Pop dramatic, so I can dial it back.
- 5:06And I'm not saying you can't be descriptive, and I'm not saying
- 5:08it's, you can't be funny with it and you can't be, you know,
- 5:12Silly and how you use words? I'm not saying that at all, but
- 5:15I'm saying, when drama and exaggeration become part of your
- 5:19Norm you want to make sure you're not doing it to the point
- 5:23where people then tend to think, well, you're just going to say
- 5:25anything and it's not going to really matter and they don't
- 5:27take you seriously. And it's like that whole thing
- 5:29about the boy who cried wolf, because it sounds so asinine
- 5:33when you're talking About something that they just don't
- 5:36believe you. So it dings your credibility a
- 5:38lot. So I will say, check in this
- 5:42really work on this you don't want to be that person that you
- 5:45know oh God, here she comes again.
- 5:46She's so dramatic. I don't want to talk to her.
- 5:48She's exaggerating everything that she's talking about, so
- 5:51watch it, see where you do it, catch it.
- 5:54I mean this has been I've been putting out a lot of these
- 5:57podcasts this past couple days all about this communication
- 6:00level because I'm just run into it so much lately.
- 6:02And I just really feel like it's a point of making you elevate
- 6:07yourself to the next level. Every time we do this and we
- 6:09check on these things, we Elevate ourselves.
- 6:11So work on it, put yourself out there, examine it.
- 6:14And hopefully you catch yourself exaggerating and you correct it.
- 6:18All right, my friends. I hope you have a blessed day
- 6:20and I will see you tomorrow. Bye.
