- 0:01SPEAKER_00: Hello, Christians.
- 0:03SPEAKER_00: This is Dallas Beecham.
- 0:06SPEAKER_00: And I have good news.
- 0:10SPEAKER_00: Long before there was an upper room, long before Peter stood before a wandering crowd in Jerusalem, God made a promise.
- 0:20SPEAKER_00: It was not a promise of wealth.
- 0:23SPEAKER_00: It was not a promise that life would be free from trouble.
- 0:28SPEAKER_00: It was something far greater.
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: Through the prophet Joel, God said, And it shall come to pass afterward that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy.
- 0:45SPEAKER_00: Your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions, and also upon the servants and upon the handmaidings in those days will I pour out my spirit.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: For generations faithful people waited, they prayed, they searched the scriptures, they wondered when the promise would come and what it would look like.
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: Then centuries later a man stood in the wilderness crying, Prepare ye the way of the Lord.
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: His name was John.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: John baptized with water, but his message pointed beyond the river Jordan.
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: He said I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear, he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire.
- 1:49SPEAKER_00: The old promise was drawing near.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: Then Jesus came.
- 2:11SPEAKER_00: On the last great day of the feast Jesus stood and cried, If any man thirst, let him come unto me and drink.
- 2:23SPEAKER_00: He that believeth on me as the scripture has said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
- 2:34SPEAKER_00: But what were those rivers of living water?
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: The next verse explains.
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive, for the Holy Ghost was not yet given, because that Jesus was not yet glorified.
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: Notice those words, should receive.
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: The Spirit was not presented as a general idea, a religious argument or an experience reserved for a special few.
- 3:10SPEAKER_00: It was the promise of the Father.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: Jesus had told his disciples to wait for.
- 3:18SPEAKER_00: Still, the disciples did not fully understand the time or the manner.
- 3:24SPEAKER_00: They had walked with Jesus.
- 3:26SPEAKER_00: They had heard his words.
- 3:28SPEAKER_00: They had seen the empty tomb.
- 3:30SPEAKER_00: But before they could carry the gospel to the world, they needed what the Father had promised.
- 3:37SPEAKER_00: And so the story moved toward Jerusalem.
- 3:41SPEAKER_00: A promise spoken through Joel, announced by John, explained by Jesus, was about to be fulfilled.
- 3:49SPEAKER_00: Perhaps someone listening today feels spiritually dry.
- 3:53SPEAKER_00: You believe in God, but you long for something deeper.
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: You hunger for his presence.
- 3:59SPEAKER_00: You desire strength to live faithfully.
- 4:02SPEAKER_00: The same God who gave the promise is still faithful.
- 4:06SPEAKER_00: His spirit is not earned by human goodness.
- 4:10SPEAKER_00: It is not purchased by money.
- 4:12SPEAKER_00: We receive it by faith, through obedience to the gospel.
- 4:17SPEAKER_00: Tomorrow we will follow the disciples to the place where Jesus told them to wait.
- 4:24SPEAKER_00: They did not know how long they would wait.
- 4:26SPEAKER_00: They only knew that he had promised power from on high.
- 4:31SPEAKER_00: I hope today's message has touched your heart and causes you to have a good day.
