- 0:13cultivate a mindset that leads you to create the best version
- 0:16of yourself you could ever imagine.
- 0:18Join Kim every morning from one of her favorite happy places,
- 0:21her chicken coop along with all her chickens.
- 0:27Hey, everybody. Good morning from the porch.
- 0:31No, it's not raining. It's just very, very dark this
- 0:33morning. Can hear the Roosters off in the
- 0:36distance. And I've got a very early day,
- 0:39so I thought, OK, I'm going to record it from the porch.
- 0:43Also, it's a different day because I want to talk to you
- 0:46about real struggles that are, you know, happening here on the
- 0:49farm too. So you understand how I pivot
- 0:52around them yesterday. When I went to go put the
- 0:57chickens away, they all put themselves in the rooster, puts
- 1:00them all in. I go count and close the doors,
- 1:02make sure everybody's safe. And when I did that last night,
- 1:06I was missing somebody and I say somebody because I legitimately
- 1:11still cannot tell who is the one chicken that's missing because I
- 1:16have a lot of each breed, so. I can't tell when they're up in
- 1:20the rafters. When I look up at them, I can't
- 1:23always tell who's who until they're down walking around and
- 1:25I can see their, you know, specific personality traits or I
- 1:29can see the difference in their Combs or their feet or their
- 1:33feathers, their tail feathers. Like, I have a lot of barred
- 1:35rocks, and I can identify Dottie because her comb tips to one
- 1:39side and she's got. Flat tail feathers compared to
- 1:43the others. And each one has their own
- 1:45little tiny things, just like fingerprints with people.
- 1:48But up in the rafters I couldn't see, so we knew that we were
- 1:52definitely missing somebody. So Lucas and I spent an hour
- 1:58walking around outside. Mark was checking all up front.
- 2:02We were checking. Lucas and I just kept walking
- 2:04the acres, just looking and seeing if we could figure out,
- 2:08like, where she could have been. And to even complicate it more,
- 2:12they are all molting right now, which means they're losing their
- 2:15feathers and getting new feathers in.
- 2:18So some of them do it very quickly, some of them, it's just
- 2:21a minor thing. But you can imagine there are
- 2:23feathers, feathers everywhere. So you don't know if somebody
- 2:26got killed by an animal or they're just molting and.
- 2:32I'm out looking trying to find her, and I'm all worked up
- 2:35because it's dark, I don't know where she is and I'm just
- 2:39walking in circles and to make it worse for me, I don't know
- 2:42who she is. So those of you who are regular
- 2:45followers know I'm super certainty driven and the fact
- 2:48that I can't figure out at least who it is is making me crazy.
- 2:53Now as I'm walking, I've got to talk to myself and I've got to
- 2:55say, OK. There is a very good chance that
- 2:59something got her because part of our philosophy, it just truly
- 3:04is I'm going to give them the best life that they possibly can
- 3:07have. They are my pets and love them,
- 3:11and that means they are not cooped up all day long.
- 3:14Legitimately, they are not cooped up.
- 3:16They have a huge chicken coop, they have a huge run and I open
- 3:21the doors to the run and they are allowed to go anywhere on
- 3:24our farm. That is completely fenced in.
- 3:28So important distinction is it is fenced in.
- 3:30But regularly we have creatures that jump the fence and we work
- 3:37on. That's why Buford is here.
- 3:39Again, those who follow regularly know Buford is a big
- 3:42giant American bulldog who is quite a formidable force.
- 3:47So it it all seems to work 99% of the time, but 1% of the time
- 3:52it doesn't. And that 1% of the time was
- 3:54yesterday. Now she may be have hunkered
- 3:57down somewhere. She had may be scared, she may
- 4:00show up today. But how do I handle these
- 4:03things? Because they crush you when
- 4:04they're your pets. And for me, the most important
- 4:08thing to recognize is that I'm giving her the best life that I
- 4:11possibly can. I focus on being that way for
- 4:15them. I focus on the fact that when
- 4:17they are here, they are spoiled, they are loved, they are cared
- 4:21for, and they have the best chicken life that they possibly
- 4:24can. And.
- 4:26If something happens that I can't control something like
- 4:29this, there's nothing I can do about it.
- 4:31All I can do is be grateful that I had them and that I was able
- 4:36to provide them what I do, and I have to keep reminding myself of
- 4:40that. So even while I say it, I have
- 4:42to say it again and again and again and again and again so
- 4:44that I can drill it into the space.
- 4:48That hurts because you're still going to have the space.
- 4:51That hurts. Because remember, two things can
- 4:52be true at the same time. You can be upset and still be
- 4:56grateful. You can be sad and still be able
- 4:59to cognitively put together that you did the best you could.
- 5:04And that's why I want to talk to you about this, because that's
- 5:06the process I'm going through right now.
- 5:09So hopefully this was helpful for you guys and maybe tomorrow
- 5:12I'll have news that she showed up, but right now.
- 5:16This is where it is, and this is a great lesson for me to share
- 5:18with all of you and for my my own personal reminder.
- 5:22All right, my friends. I hope you have a blessed day
- 5:24and I'll see you tomorrow. Bye.
