  Speaker 3: I think a lot of people feel that way about

  Speaker 3: stakes and the expectations were so so high that it

  Speaker 3: was literally when the Super Bowl or the season was

  Speaker 3: a failure, that there was almost this feeling of pressure

  Speaker 3: or stress about winning versus just celebrating the fact that

  Speaker 2: So much so, this team is playing with.

  Speaker 3: House money a little bit in year one under Mike Rabel,

  Speaker 3: and I think it's it's been more fun to talk

  Speaker 3: discover it now. I think it's the most fun I've

  Speaker 3: ever had covering a Patriots team as a fan, Like

  Speaker 3: I think you probably have to go back to fourteen sixteen,

  Speaker 3: like those teams, because like I said, eighteen was the

  Speaker 3: wheels were already kind of coming off in eighteen.

  Speaker 2: So I would say, like, probably this really.

  Speaker 3: Dynasty two point oh, like the meat of Dynasty two

  Speaker 3: point oh when they were going to the AFC Championship

  Speaker 3: Game every single year. But again it was like like

  Speaker 3: I remember in twenty eleven when they beat Baltimore in

  Speaker 3: the AFC Championship Game and kind of misses the kick

  Speaker 3: and was it Sterling Moore, yep, right, a drop it

  Speaker 3: gets the drop or whatever us yep, those plays.

  Speaker 2: I just remember being so relieved that they won that game.

  Speaker 3: Not euphorick are happy that they won that game, but

  Speaker 3: just flat out they should have lost that game. Thank

  Speaker 3: god they didn't. And then of course you go on

  Speaker 3: that year in particular and lose Super Bowl. But what

  Speaker 3: you must be having a great time with this too,

  Speaker 3: because this is the first time that we really covered

  Speaker 3: a team that's like new, when young and exciting.

  Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, look, twenty one was cool, obviously, I

  Speaker 1: of that, right, and that was maybe kind of like eighteen,

  Speaker 1: and there was an element of being defensive about it,

  Speaker 1: obviously for different reasons. But no, this has been I mean, yeah,

  Speaker 1: like you said, i'd look at you having fun, proud

  Speaker 1: would thought you don't usually do that. I don't, but

  Speaker 1: you know, watching these games out.

  Speaker 1: fourteen and sixteen in terms of covering the team, it

  Speaker 1: would probably feel a little different. The fact that it

  Speaker 1: was our first year helped. But no, it was really

  Speaker 1: cool sitting down Sunday and watching these games and thinking

  Speaker 1: about how some of these teams stack up with the Patriots,

  Speaker 1: and they put the playoff graphic up on CBA. I

  Speaker 1: used to love it when I was a kid growing
• 5:15
  Speaker 1: up and they'd put this not in a hunt, a
• 5:17
  Speaker 1: lot more than in the Hunt. I used to love
• 5:19
  Speaker 1: when they put the graphic up on Sundays at the
• 5:21
  Speaker 1: end of the game, and then do all the machinations

  Speaker 1: in my head, all right, this and that, and you

  Speaker 1: know what, I went back to. It used to be

  Speaker 1: one of my favorite things when we first worked together.

  Speaker 1: I used to make you fill this out every week

  Speaker 1: and we post it the ESPN Playoff Machine. I dove

  Speaker 1: back into the playoff machine, you have to say, for

  Speaker 1: the first time in a while, so you know, to

  Speaker 1: watch all these games.

  Speaker 3: And for somebody that hates all of that, the fact

  Speaker 3: that you like the playoff machine kind of is mind boggling.

  Speaker 3: It's a predictive model, like it's a model that's based

  Speaker 1: No, it's not. We're talking about different. I'm talking about

  Speaker 3: do too. Actually got to watch some football on Sunday

  Speaker 3: around the NFL and not just cover the Patriots, so

  Speaker 3: we got to see some other teams play, and just

  Speaker 3: like you were talking about with the AFC playoff pictures,

  Speaker 3: So we'll get to some of that too, and we'll

  Speaker 3: talk a little bit.

  Speaker 2: Bengals of course and all that good stuff.

  Speaker 3: But starting with the news, I want to focus in

  Speaker 3: on the Patriots. I know, the big news overnight is

  Speaker 3: that Jamar Chase's suspension was upheld, his appeal was denied.
• 8:17
  Speaker 3: He is out on Sunday for the Bengals. He will
• 8:20
  Speaker 3: not play in this game against the Patriots officially. Now
• 8:24
  Speaker 3: there's no second appeal. You can't, you know, appeal it
• 8:27
  Speaker 3: to the Supreme Court. Now it's over. Like he's not
• 8:29
  Speaker 3: playing in this game on Sunday. So that that's sort
• 8:33
  Speaker 3: of the overnight news. But the news over the weekend
• 8:37
  Speaker 3: that I think is more important as it pertains to
• 8:40
  Speaker 3: the Patriots is Milton Williams going out with a high
• 8:43
  Speaker 3: ankle sprain. Was being described as a high ankle sprain er,
• 8:46
  Speaker 3: I should say reported as a high ankle sprain. The
• 8:50
  Speaker 3: current timetable, I think rap sheet said they're thinking four
• 8:55
  Speaker 3: to six weeks. This does mean and I will write
• 8:59
  Speaker 3: this down on the piece of paper and put it

  Speaker 3: on my forehead if I have to. It's games, not week.

  Speaker 1: I think at this point people are caught up. There

  Speaker 1: was definitely some confusion on Saturday. I understand why people,

  Speaker 1: I think are caught up at this point.

  Speaker 2: Weeks.

  Speaker 3: So that means that Milton Williams will miss at least

  Speaker 3: the Bengals Giants bills in Ravens games, and obviously coming

  Speaker 3: off the buy the bills in the Ravens games have

  Speaker 3: huge implications. Division implications with Buffalo, seating implications with Baltimore. Remember,

  Speaker 3: on top of the fact that you just want to

  Speaker 3: keep winning in general, your record within the conference is
• 9:40
  Speaker 3: a big part of the tiebreaker formula as well. So

  Speaker 3: if you want to start talking tie breakers, Buffalo and

  Speaker 3: Baltimore of course are not only a division opponent in Buffalo,
• 9:50
  Speaker 3: but also AFC opponents as well. So if you start

  Speaker 3: to you know, if you lose both those games, then
• 9:56
  Speaker 3: that's going to hurt against the Colds. That's going to
• 9:59
  Speaker 3: hurt against it might not hurt you as much because

  Speaker 3: they can go three and three down the stretch and

  Speaker 3: win twelve games and probably win the division. I would say,

  Speaker 3: I mean, it's not impossible for Buffalo to come back,

  Speaker 3: but I would say it's it's more probable than not

  Speaker 3: that the Patriots at twelve wins would win the.

  Speaker 1: As, especially if they win that Bills game.

  Speaker 2: Sure, but I'm even talking if they don't win the

  Speaker 2: Bills game.

  Speaker 1: If they don't win the Bills game yet, they're still

  Speaker 1: pbably gonna win it with twelve. But like that game,

  Speaker 1: that game's not like it will be a hat and

  Speaker 1: There's a few weeks after it, but it's really tough

  Speaker 3: Williams injury, obviously there's the impact of losing Milton Williams himself,

  Speaker 3: and then there's okay, who fills in for Milton Williams

  Speaker 3: moving forward, But just on Milton Williams himself. Right now,

  Speaker 3: Milton Williams is third in the league and pass rush

  Speaker 3: win rate win rate among defensive tackles, so he is

  Speaker 3: one of the best disruptors on the interior in the NFL.

  Speaker 3: The Patriots statistically, eye test wise, I would say that

  Speaker 3: they have an average pass rush. I don't think it stinks,

  Speaker 3: but it's certainly on the scale of stinks to the
• 11:16
  Speaker 3: Denver Broncos it's somewhere in the middle.

  Speaker 1: Well, problem is it runs hot and cold. It's not
• 11:20
  Speaker 1: like they're this consistent middle level of okay. Sometimes they'll

  Speaker 1: have stretches, like a driver to where they're really good,
• 11:26
  Speaker 1: and then they'll have a driver to where they disappear.

  Speaker 2: I think a lot of it's dependent on down and distance.

  Speaker 3: Right when they get you into thirdy long, they've been

  Speaker 3: able to pressure, but those first and second downs it's

  Speaker 3: been not so much. So a big part of that

  Speaker 3: is Milton Williams now removing him. How much does that

  Speaker 3: have a big picture effect on a Already let's call

  Speaker 3: would also say, you know, they've been doing a lot

  Speaker 3: with a four man pass rush, So now do you

  Speaker 3: starting your play calling not necessarily changing your scheme, but

  Speaker 2: So that that's a big trickle down.

  Speaker 3: I also think that there's another element of this too,

  Speaker 3: to pick your spots with players situationally, like you're gonna

  Speaker 3: have to probably recreate Milton Williams in the aggregate of

  Speaker 3: certain situations that aren't necessarily a three or four down

  Speaker 3: player like Milton Williams is. So Corey Durdin is gonna

  Speaker 3: play a little bit more. I'm sure Tongo will play

  Speaker 3: a little bit more. Maybe you know, Josh Farmer comes

  Speaker 3: back and he plays a little bit more. But most importantly,

  Speaker 3: you know, Tonga has really been used as an early down,
• 12:47
  Speaker 3: short yardage nose tackle. You know where they go five
• 12:51
  Speaker 3: man front, three four front. They put him at the nose,
• 12:54
  Speaker 3: They put Milton Williams and Christian Barmoer at three four ends,

  Speaker 3: and then they have Landry and Chase on. Obviously, as

  Speaker 3: you're outside linebackers, now Tonga might have to play more

  Speaker 3: in four man fronts instead of all only just those
• 13:07
  Speaker 3: five man fronts, maybe you have Durden play a little
• 13:10
  Speaker 3: bit more in the four man fronts, which is what

  Speaker 3: happened at the end of the Jets game after Milton

  Speaker 3: Williams went out. So I think what they're gonna have

  Speaker 3: to end up doing is deciding, Okay, you know, Tonga

  Speaker 3: is gonna be our early down tackle next to Christian Barmore.

  Speaker 3: Durden's gonna kind of be our late, you know, down

  Speaker 3: tackle next to Christian Barmore. And they're gonna instead of

  Speaker 3: having one player that's gonna be playing seventy sixty five

  Speaker 3: seventy percent of the snaps, they're gonna have to recreate

  Speaker 3: Milton Williams with a bunch of different bodies.

  Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that's true. Look, I I don't want

  Speaker 1: to minimize the injury. Milton Williams has been a great player.

  Speaker 1: And look, when's the last time an athlete in Boston,

  Speaker 1: in this media market, in this landscape signed a record

  Speaker 1: breaking contract and people wondered if maybe they underpaid them,

  Speaker 1: Like that's how good Milton Williams has been. So I

  Speaker 1: don't want to diminish the injury. The thing that does

  Speaker 1: stand out, though, is we talked a lot leading up

  Speaker 1: to the trade deadline about they were lacking depth in

  Speaker 1: all these different spots. This is the one spot you

  Speaker 1: can probably absorb it because they have that depth of

  Speaker 1: defensive tackle. They have Tongo who's obviously been awesome. Corey

  Speaker 1: Durtin I think has really come on strong the last
• 14:22
  Speaker 1: few weeks. Really like watching him play. Eric Gregory comes out,

  Speaker 1: gets a run stop the first play of his NFL career.

  Speaker 1: They still Jeremiah Farms on the practice squad as well,
• 14:30
  Speaker 1: who has some NFL experience. So I don't think it's
• 14:33
  Speaker 1: gonna look the same without Milton Williams. You're gonna notice
• 14:35
  Speaker 1: that he's not out there, like there's gonna be a difference.

  Speaker 1: But I do think if there's one position where they
• 14:40
  Speaker 1: could handle a major injury, like it shouldn't all fall
• 14:43
  Speaker 1: apart without Milton Williams, they should be able to get
• 14:46
  Speaker 1: by with now. When if he's missing time in the playoffs,
• 14:48
  Speaker 1: that's another story. But for five weeks, four games, whatever,

  Speaker 1: they should be able to get by. It's just how
• 14:55
  Speaker 1: do you manage it. And to your point, this is

  Speaker 1: the one position where they kind of have a lot

  Speaker 1: of players, you know, relatively speaking, they have a number

  Speaker 1: of players at their disposal who can do different things,

  Speaker 1: who can help them get by and handle this. If

  Speaker 1: they had lost you know, a starter on the edge,

  Speaker 1: or you know, if they lost another running back or

  Speaker 1: its tight end or some of these other positions we
• 15:15
  Speaker 1: were talking about during trade deadline, it would be a

  Speaker 1: much different conversation and we'd probably be talking about like
• 15:20
  Speaker 1: free agents and things like that. But yeah, this is

  Speaker 1: the one position where they are kind of built with
• 15:25
  Speaker 1: some depth and they should be able to handle it.

  Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm pretty optimistic that they'll be able to still
• 15:29
  Speaker 3: stop the run with the group that they have because
• 15:31
  Speaker 3: Tong is a really good run player, Turdan's a really
• 15:34
  Speaker 3: sturdy player, and the Farmer is a strong player.

  Speaker 2: Long Enred, I didn't.

  Speaker 1: Even mention farmer. Would you think I'm scarios? Would you

  Speaker 1: think of Gregory?

  Speaker 3: In a few snaps?

  Speaker 2: I thought he was fine.

  Speaker 3: And what I like about him is, you know, lower

  Speaker 3: center of gravity, wide body, harder to double team. You know,

  Speaker 3: he's pretty good at splitting those double teams because he

  Speaker 3: plays with good leverage.

  Speaker 2: In the run game.

  Speaker 3: It was limited, but I think there's there's something there

  Speaker 3: in terms of like run stuffing ability, so I don't

  Speaker 3: think that they're going to be significantly less stout against

  Speaker 3: the run without Milton Williams. But what you worry about
