- 1:26SPEAKER_00: Welcome to our show, Live Your Legacy.
- 1:29SPEAKER_00: Beth, welcome.
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: And where are you coming in from, my friend?
- 1:33SPEAKER_01: Wow, thank you for that intro.
- 1:35SPEAKER_01: Oh my gosh.
- 1:35SPEAKER_01: I am coming in from Carlsvan, California, aka Paradise.
- 1:40SPEAKER_01: Looking at the Pacific Ocean right now, tell a lie.
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: So, but it is a little early for us over here in the West Coast.
- 1:46SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: Don't make me daydream that Pacific Ocean.
- 1:49SPEAKER_00: That's beautiful.
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: Thank you for bringing us there.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: Did I miss anything?
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: You're doing a lot in this world.
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: Did I miss anything?
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: Nine time author.
- 1:56SPEAKER_00: Come on.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: Oh.
- 1:57SPEAKER_01: Well, I snuck in another book since I sent you that.
- 2:00SPEAKER_01: But yes.
- 2:01SPEAKER_01: Um, yeah, it's just, I'd love to write.
- 2:03SPEAKER_01: What's a new passion?
- 2:05SPEAKER_01: I wrote a book that was supposed to be or is or was a keynote speech that I wrote with Les Brown.
- 2:12SPEAKER_01: And he said, you know what, girl, this needs to be a book.
- 2:15SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, what?
- 2:17SPEAKER_01: And so I turned it into a book.
- 2:19SPEAKER_01: And at first it was going to be like a little e-book, and then it turned into a grown-up book.
- 2:23SPEAKER_01: And when I was looking, as I was doing that and looking for a publisher, my publisher said, You know what, girl, this is this is more for this.
- 2:31SPEAKER_01: You are the carpe diem lady.
- 2:34SPEAKER_01: So and he sits back, like, do you know what carpe diem is?
- 2:37SPEAKER_01: And I have a tattoo, my one and only carpe diem.
- 2:40SPEAKER_01: It's been my signature since I was 15.
- 2:43SPEAKER_01: And it's turned into carpe diem sees the day with a smile that's a movement.
- 2:48SPEAKER_01: And I linked arms with another movement, which is a global kindness initiative that is gonna kick off in November.
- 2:55SPEAKER_01: That I'm super stoked about.
- 2:56SPEAKER_01: That I get to tell a bazillion million people about they cost zero dollars to just do random acts of kindness.
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: So I remember reading, I believe it was like Gale and Oprah talking about carbideum, and I was like, and that was the first time I heard of it.
- 3:13SPEAKER_00: This was years back, and I'm like, carpet diem, and I haven't heard that word, and I did love it, but that's great that you reminded us of that word because it's almost like serendipity and purpose meet, right?
- 3:24SPEAKER_00: Like destiny and serendipity, like it just everything alignment, right?
- 3:29SPEAKER_00: Am I wrong?
- 3:29SPEAKER_00: Am I getting it wrong?
- 3:30SPEAKER_00: But that's what I got from it.
- 3:33SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but you know what?
- 3:34SPEAKER_01: People think of it as it seize the day is the literal translation.
- 3:38SPEAKER_01: Or conquer the days actually.
- 3:40SPEAKER_01: And it's not we're putting on a suit of armor and we're gonna go jump out of a plane or you know, like you and I both did.
- 3:46SPEAKER_01: I moved across the country, we move up and our lives for the sake of seizing the day, and it and it's making that choice, it's making the choice to be aligned, it's making the choice to step into who you really are, to seize the day with kindness and courage and leadership and tenacity.
- 4:01SPEAKER_01: All those words, it's seize the day, daily choice.
- 4:04SPEAKER_00: Well, now I see why you came on, live your legacy makes a lot of sense to me.
- 4:09SPEAKER_00: We're gonna get right into the first question.
- 4:12SPEAKER_00: Would you agree or disagree that hindsight is always 2020 and why?
- 4:21SPEAKER_01: I will agree.
- 4:22SPEAKER_01: Steve Jobs says we connect the dots backwards.
- 4:26SPEAKER_01: So sit in our place today, and you can look back at events, challenges, good or bad, that have happened to Forged who we have become.
- 4:36SPEAKER_01: And then you can look back and say, Oh wow, I see that all of that was happening for me, even though some of it sent me tumbling through the waves, that knocked me to my knees, that pulled the carpet out, whatever.
- 4:48SPEAKER_01: That all happened for me to become the woman or man that I am today.
- 4:53SPEAKER_01: And so connecting the dots backwards 100%.
- 4:56SPEAKER_00: It might not make sense when it's happening.
- 4:58SPEAKER_00: That resonates that resonates with me because I do remember that famous speech, I believe, at Stanford University.
- 5:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and he mentioned that.
- 5:05SPEAKER_00: Oh, that gives me the chills because that's a goodie for me.
- 5:08SPEAKER_00: Thank you, that one as well.
- 5:09SPEAKER_00: You're bringing back all good stuff here.
- 5:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 5:12SPEAKER_00: Can you do since we're talking about hindsight?
- 5:14SPEAKER_00: Can you take us back for a moment and share with us a pivotal moment that changed the direction of your life or and work?
- 5:23SPEAKER_01: So I don't think there could be one, but I think biggest uh you know, call it a dark night of the soul for me was a divorce that you know happened, and it happened around the time my kids were about to leave the nest, and I was starting to feel some burnout with my career.
- 5:40SPEAKER_01: And my mother had a massive stroke.
- 5:42SPEAKER_01: So there was just like this let's pour some more on that.
- 5:45SPEAKER_01: Oh, you know, you're handling it, let's pour a little more, right?
- 5:48SPEAKER_01: So I look back now, like it that didn't all happen at the same minute, but over a period of two to five to six years, and it was challenging and really caused me to look back at the woman that I had been.
- 6:05SPEAKER_01: I had been carrying identities as super mom, super wife, the fitness coach, the this or the that, but they weren't truly who I was.
- 6:15SPEAKER_01: And so when the universe pulled all of that out from under me, I got to discover who I really am.
- 6:22SPEAKER_01: And I thought, okay, I read books and I went to therapy and I did all the things you're supposed to do, but I was still struggling with who am I supposed to be?
- 6:32SPEAKER_01: Am I?
- 6:33SPEAKER_01: Like, let's grab a hold of that.
- 6:34SPEAKER_01: And there's all these chirps that come in.
- 6:36SPEAKER_01: You're supposed to do this, you're supposed to do this.
- 6:39SPEAKER_01: And I was like, no, I'm not, no, I'm not.
- 6:40SPEAKER_01: So I'm like, okay, I've always wanted to live in San Diego since I was like eight or nine.
- 6:45SPEAKER_01: I don't know why, can't explain it.
- 6:47SPEAKER_01: And I just packed up a truck and I moved to San Diego.
- 6:50SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 6:50SPEAKER_01: I didn't know anybody, and it was a big brave girl.
- 6:54SPEAKER_01: Thank God I played pickleball because that's where I went.
- 6:56SPEAKER_01: I went to the pickleball courts and met with friends, and that's when right and I thought, okay, I'm gonna retire.
- 7:03SPEAKER_01: I'm just gonna play pickleball.
- 7:05SPEAKER_01: And then it was like these chirps got louder.
- 7:07SPEAKER_01: You're you're really still a coach.
- 7:09SPEAKER_01: And so pivotal moment when you look back and I'm connecting my dots, all of those things happened for me so that I could go through the fire, come out the other side, get trained, get my own coach, and say, now this is what you do.
- 7:27SPEAKER_01: So really evolving from that, wrote nine, ten books.
- 7:32SPEAKER_01: I wrote five for kids, so it wasn't like I wrote ten novels because I wrote them all in one year.
- 7:37SPEAKER_01: But five are for kids to last though.
- 7:40SPEAKER_00: Yes, but not the last thing.
- 7:43SPEAKER_00: It's I wrote I wrote one, and I know it took a lot of work to get that one out.
- 7:48SPEAKER_00: So kudos to you.
- 7:50SPEAKER_00: So, what challenge would you say was a blessing in disguise?
- 7:53SPEAKER_00: And I know generally you just mentioned a few, but if we can now narrow it down, you know, was there something that was like, wow, that was a blessing?
- 8:02SPEAKER_00: And at the time it just felt like a tragedy.
- 8:05SPEAKER_01: I would say it was the my divorce.
- 8:09SPEAKER_01: You know, I can look back and it was sad, and you know, still care for my ex-husband.
- 8:15SPEAKER_01: Wish him all the best in the world, and he's the father to my kids, loving them on everybody.
- 8:20SPEAKER_01: And our, you know, it shook things up a bit, but I think that challenge was a pivotal moment for me that needed to happen so that I could step out of being the people-pleasing wife and mom that I had grown very accustomed to.
- 8:33SPEAKER_00: Discover yourself and discover yourself.
- 8:35SPEAKER_00: You mentioned you know people who have been through divorce have mentioned one common trait.
- 8:41SPEAKER_00: It feels like a like a death, it feels like a death, uh, it's a serious grief.
- 8:46SPEAKER_00: A grief nonetheless, but it feels it feels like that, you know.
- 8:50SPEAKER_00: So overcoming that definitely a challenge, but the blessing was that you became you, yeah.
- 8:57SPEAKER_00: You so that's beautiful.
- 8:59SPEAKER_00: Thank you.
- 9:00SPEAKER_00: Who has been the most memorable mentor in your life?
- 9:03SPEAKER_00: Again, you may mention five people, and that's okay, but who comes to the top of your mind and why?
- 9:10SPEAKER_01: I think I'm gonna have two, and they ironically and didn't know it, I didn't know at the time, worked together for 30 years, and that would be Les Brown and Mary Morrissey.
- 9:20SPEAKER_00: Wow, you mentioned Les Brown a few times now.
- 9:23SPEAKER_00: I've yeah, got to meet Les Brown and seen him talk in person at live events a few times, and he is amazing, and uh you know, I love that we have Les Brown in common, but nonetheless, that's powerful because there's a lot of inspirational speakers, a lot, right?
- 9:39SPEAKER_00: And the fact that you mention somebody like Les Brown, because he really has overcome a lot.
- 9:46SPEAKER_00: Like if he could do it, anybody could do it, right?
- 9:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I want to say he's a genuine human and a friend.
- 9:52SPEAKER_01: He will call randomly to check in and being there for me different times of my life, just been a beautiful human, he really is.
- 10:00SPEAKER_01: Mary Morrissey, a certified life coach through her Brave Thinking Institute.
- 10:04SPEAKER_01: But I've had the privilege of being able to sit one-on-one with her and share a meal and just talk to her and be in her presence.
- 10:12SPEAKER_01: And there's just something about her energy that just nurtures you to believe in yourself.
- 10:18SPEAKER_01: Again, another woman gone through her own challenges.
- 10:21SPEAKER_01: You know, she had a near-death experience when she was 18 and survived and is thriving.
- 10:28SPEAKER_01: And so I think those two people, just because of the genuine human spirit that they have, and then the lifetime of wisdom that they have poured on me, they came along in my life when I was ready.
- 10:40SPEAKER_01: And that and that's the thing, you know, teacher arrives when the student is ready, or whatever that saying is.
- 10:45SPEAKER_00: Yes, yes.
- 10:46SPEAKER_00: I heard that saying was Wayne Dyer.
- 10:49SPEAKER_00: Now I don't know if he's the one that you know put it together.
- 10:50SPEAKER_01: So he's the three, he's the third of the triple.
- 10:53SPEAKER_01: The three of them started off with Jack Boland.
- 10:59SPEAKER_01: Yes, the three of them were put together in a little mastermind and were trained by Jack Boland to become the people that they are today.
- 11:06SPEAKER_00: Oh wow, that's new information, and that's amazing.
- 11:11SPEAKER_00: It makes sense though.
- 11:12SPEAKER_00: It makes a it makes a lot of sense.
- 11:13SPEAKER_00: Was there a revelation, a personal motto or a lesson that helped guide your journey?
- 11:19SPEAKER_01: Well, motto sees the day, and I don't remember.
- 11:22SPEAKER_01: I mean, I know back to 15, when I was 15, I was a Latin student.
- 11:27SPEAKER_01: I was a little nerdy, and nobody even took Latin, but I loved it.
- 11:31SPEAKER_01: And I learned what that word meant.
- 11:34SPEAKER_01: And just after my mother passed away, I had the idea to get a tattoo, which is funny because she always used to say, No tattoos.
- 11:42SPEAKER_01: But I had a connection with my mother with a hawk that used to follow us around and hawk feathers, and so I got I was gonna get a little teeny tiny feather, and it was gonna be just for me to see on my wrist.
- 11:57SPEAKER_01: And I went to the tattoo place, I don't know what I'm doing, and I just tell him, hey, I just want a little feather, and here's why.
- 12:03SPEAKER_01: And he goes, Okay, I'll go draw a feather.
- 12:05SPEAKER_01: And he comes back and he had this big feather, and above it he had written carpe diem.
- 12:11SPEAKER_01: And I looked, I sit back and he goes, Oh, it's Latin, it means seize the day.
- 12:16SPEAKER_01: And I was like, Wow, I've never seen that word to you, I never said the word carpe dum.
- 12:23SPEAKER_00: Or the fact that it's you know, Latin derived.
- 12:27SPEAKER_01: And he's like, Oh, I'm sorry, he goes, I just learned what this meant.
- 12:30SPEAKER_01: And I gave stuff about your energy.
- 12:32SPEAKER_01: I just wrote it, and I was like, Wow, dude, I like to shove my wrist and I'm like, put it on, here it goes.
- 12:38SPEAKER_00: But for me, but also like synergy that you know, you just randomly took Latin also, you know, and it's derived from Latin, you know, because sometimes it's derived from Greek, right?
- 12:49SPEAKER_00: But this is Latin.
- 12:51SPEAKER_00: Wow, that's just so awesome.
- 12:53SPEAKER_00: Confirmation, confirmation, exactly.
- 12:56SPEAKER_01: God, the universe saying this is you, this is and again, connect the dots.
- 13:01SPEAKER_01: When I got the tattoo, that was seven years ago.
- 13:05SPEAKER_01: I didn't know I was gonna be doing this.
- 13:07SPEAKER_01: I'm supposed to be walking on the beach and retired and you know, living a life.
- 13:11SPEAKER_01: And of course, I had no idea I was gonna be doing whatever.
- 13:15SPEAKER_00: Little need you know, little needs you know.
- 13:17SPEAKER_00: With that being said, what would you say to your younger self today?
- 13:23SPEAKER_01: So, to my younger self, I would say keep an open mind and an open heart, and you may be driven and know exactly what you want to do with this life, but there will be pivots and don't paddle upstream with your pivots.
- 13:40SPEAKER_01: You don't need to effort, God, let the universe show you the way, and just release your resistance to change and growth and just allow, but you don't have to have it all figured out, you will never get it all done.
- 13:56SPEAKER_01: Just relax.
- 13:57SPEAKER_01: I'll tell you, my 20-year-old self was doing Broadway musicals, and I thought, oh, I've made it, this is what I'm gonna do.
- 14:04SPEAKER_01: I'm in New York, Chicago, I'm doing the do.
- 14:08SPEAKER_01: And then I got married, and then the little kids wanted to come along into my life, and I wanted to have babies, and showbabies wasn't gonna work, so there was a pivot, but I resisted it a little too long, and then I resisted the next change a little too long.
- 14:24SPEAKER_01: So little girl back.
- 14:26SPEAKER_00: Now you're on completely different stages.
- 14:28SPEAKER_00: Now you're on completely different stages.
- 14:31SPEAKER_00: Oh my god, being a keynote speaker, that's awesome.
- 14:35SPEAKER_00: What wisdom would you want your future self to keep holding on to?
- 14:40SPEAKER_01: I would say that same wisdom to allow the boat to go downstream.
- 14:45SPEAKER_01: You don't have to paddle so hard, you don't have to effort so much.
- 14:50SPEAKER_01: That stay in alignment with this woman, who the truth of who you are, stay with her and uh let everything else come as it's supposed to come.
- 15:02SPEAKER_00: Beautiful.
- 15:03SPEAKER_00: You know what keeps calling to me the phrase trust the process and both shares and both and both questions, you know, keep feeling like that saying trust the process.
- 15:13SPEAKER_00: That's the message here that I'm receiving.
- 15:15SPEAKER_00: Trust the process because trust believing in the unknown and the unseen, right?
- 15:19SPEAKER_00: Going with the flow, it is a process, right?
- 15:23SPEAKER_01: I think that in yourself is also, you know, there's trust in faith.
- 15:27SPEAKER_01: I think they go hand in hand.
- 15:31SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 15:32SPEAKER_00: Because faith is in the unknown, right?
- 15:35SPEAKER_00: And you know, the unseen.
- 15:37SPEAKER_00: So you're the you need trust.
- 15:39SPEAKER_00: You can't have faith without trust.
- 15:41SPEAKER_00: So that's so spot on, clarifying, you know, because sometimes faith people again, not to take away from you know, continuing with the questions, but I just want to bring a little attention to this.
- 15:52SPEAKER_00: A lot of people box faith into religion, right?
- 15:57SPEAKER_00: And not necessarily so.
- 15:59SPEAKER_00: Yes, there's faith in religion, but it doesn't have to be boxed in religion, it's about exactly.
- 16:04SPEAKER_01: Yes, trying to fit in yourself that you have everything that you need.
- 16:09SPEAKER_01: Those are two things you can't see fear and faith.
- 16:12SPEAKER_01: And yet we pour so much of our energy and time into what we're afraid of rather than what we already know we've got, we can handle.
- 16:21SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's right, in agreement.
- 16:24SPEAKER_00: So, what does legacy mean to you personally, Beth?
- 16:28SPEAKER_01: So, legacy to me is what you leave behind and leaving the world, little corner of the world, in a better place than maybe it was when you got there.
- 16:40SPEAKER_01: And leaving that legacy, being kind, you know, if that could be your legacy of, you know, like when you do pass, what are you known for?
- 16:49SPEAKER_01: Well, she was, you know, recently just went to two funerals, sadly, and it was really just talking about their legacy, who they were.
- 16:57SPEAKER_01: And I think that's what the good in the world, if if that's really not very good grammar, but how will you be known for 10 years, 20 years, 30 years later, and not just what your kids will say about you, but all the human lives and hearts that you left an imprint on.
- 17:15SPEAKER_00: Again, in agreement, absolutely.
- 17:18SPEAKER_00: What that goes leads me into my next question.
- 17:20SPEAKER_00: What do you hope people remember most about the way you lived, worked, or served?
- 17:25SPEAKER_01: I think that I would hope that people knew that I lived with an open heart and integrity.
- 17:33SPEAKER_01: I think integrity is one of my greatest character strengths, is that we'll deliver on what I promise and to the best of my abilities, and I will do it with kindness and an open heart, you know.
- 17:46SPEAKER_01: I think when we have stuff happen to us in life, our heart gets a little hardened.
- 17:51SPEAKER_01: We maybe build a little wall, we're gonna protect ourselves, and I think for me, it's an important step to if notice when I was starting to build a wall and then tear it down.
- 18:03SPEAKER_01: So yeah.
- 18:05SPEAKER_00: I remember when.
- 18:07SPEAKER_00: I remember one also.
- 18:09SPEAKER_00: So if you could do it all over again, would you change anything, or did every part of the journey have a purpose?
- 18:16SPEAKER_01: Every part has a purpose.
- 18:18SPEAKER_01: I think doing it over again, I would have done the things that I'm doing now 20 years earlier because I think it's that important.
- 18:27SPEAKER_01: And I don't know, I know that I needed to go what I go through what I had to go through to be able to get to that place.
- 18:34SPEAKER_01: But we, you know, we get to points in our lives, it's like, why would why wasn't I doing this earlier?
- 18:40SPEAKER_01: Why wasn't I thinking these thoughts earlier?
- 18:43SPEAKER_01: And we can beat ourselves up about that, but really you're stepping into this space today, this brand new baby day, exactly where you're supposed to be.
- 18:52SPEAKER_01: You there were lessons that you needed to learn, maybe you needed to learn them 10 times over before you went, oh, I get it now, and that's okay.
- 19:01SPEAKER_01: It's like forgive that, forgive that part of you.
- 19:03SPEAKER_01: You know, there's you're human, we're we're spiritual beings having these human experiences.
- 19:08SPEAKER_01: We slip up and we take our time, and you know, that's okay.
- 19:12SPEAKER_01: So I think, yeah, going back, I didn't change a thing.
- 19:16SPEAKER_01: I just would I would have started earlier, yeah.
- 19:19SPEAKER_00: And you know, I love you see, when people uh answer this particular question, I find it fascinating because I could be on both sides.
- 19:28SPEAKER_00: Sometimes I'm like, no, I wouldn't be exactly where I am if it wasn't for everything happening exactly the same way.
- 19:34SPEAKER_00: But I think I would be a big fat liar if I didn't also say, Well, if I knew now what if I if I knew then what I know now, yeah, I probably would change some things and maybe I'd be around about where I am now, but just more enhanced, an advanced version, you know.
- 19:53SPEAKER_00: So I love that you were courageous enough to say, hey, wait a minute.
- 19:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah, there's a couple things, even even though I'm very happy where I am now, there's a couple things I might have done a little differently.
- 20:03SPEAKER_00: I think that's I think that's brilliant.
- 20:05SPEAKER_00: Thank you for that, you know.
- 20:06SPEAKER_00: And I and I really, there's there's no judgment here.
- 20:08SPEAKER_00: Interesting to see both sides, right?
- 20:10SPEAKER_00: And I could I'm human too, so I teeter totter sometimes.
- 20:14SPEAKER_00: Wait a minute.
- 20:15SPEAKER_00: Oh, no, wait, yeah.
- 20:16SPEAKER_00: Thank you for that.
- 20:17SPEAKER_00: Well, we're getting up to our signature question here.
- 20:20SPEAKER_00: Oh my gosh, I love this one.
- 20:21SPEAKER_00: This is one of my favorites.
- 20:23SPEAKER_00: What is something about your journey that most people would be surprised to learn?
- 20:29SPEAKER_01: Well, then I was an opera singer.
- 20:32unknown: What?
- 20:32SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 20:33SPEAKER_00: Oh, we're gonna have to have another show, but it's gonna be on entertainment between your Broadway and opera singing.
- 20:38SPEAKER_00: Wait a minute here.
- 20:40SPEAKER_00: Okay, tell us about it.
- 20:42SPEAKER_00: Where, why, what, way, is anybody in your family an opera singer?
- 20:45SPEAKER_00: This is fabulous.
- 20:46SPEAKER_01: No, my dad's a fabulous singer.
- 20:48SPEAKER_01: I don't know that he, I think he might have done Gilbert and Sullivan, which is more like and I did light opera, which is Gilbert and Sullivan, and then I did the heavy stuff.
- 20:57SPEAKER_01: I think that's where Latin came in really handy because I could yes, I could sing it in any different language.
- 21:05SPEAKER_01: I probably did over 500 weddings that I sang at as well.
- 21:08SPEAKER_01: But yeah, I so I get a BFA in musical theater, and then I went on and studied opera in Chicago and dove in with that.
- 21:18SPEAKER_01: And it's exhilarating and fun, but impossible to get my friends to come see.
- 21:25SPEAKER_01: Can you still sing in the shower?
- 21:27SPEAKER_01: Well, birthday parties.
- 21:28SPEAKER_01: I'm the lady who starts the happy birthday song, really where I go.
- 21:32SPEAKER_01: But that's cool.
- 21:33SPEAKER_01: I actually did a surprise guest appearance at somebody's birthday party where I came out and sang all my pickleball friends were there, and they're like, Is that a track or are you really singing?
- 21:45SPEAKER_01: It was really people like, I had no idea that that's what you did.
- 21:49SPEAKER_00: That's a shocker.
- 21:50SPEAKER_00: Like, if I didn't know that about you, and all of a sudden you start belting out because opera is like a different level animal, call it whatever you want.
- 21:58SPEAKER_00: It just is, and it's only Class, nothing wrong with all the other classes, but opera is definitely in its a class of its own.
- 22:06SPEAKER_00: And if you don't know somebody's an opera singer and they start singing opera, it's um jaw dropper.
- 22:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 22:14SPEAKER_01: I crack people up.
- 22:15SPEAKER_01: We I play in a lot of pickleball tournaments, and they always do this Tony Spingle Banner, and I'll be the one like singing in the background.
- 22:21SPEAKER_01: And then my opponents are also on the court and they start doing this like singing.
- 22:27SPEAKER_01: You know, it's like really funny, but yes, it's funny, uh funny story.
- 22:32SPEAKER_01: I used to sing with a top 40s band at Six Flags Great America in Chicago.
- 22:38SPEAKER_01: And it was when I was studying opera, and I'll never forget I had to sing Michael Jackson's Beat It.
- 22:46SPEAKER_01: And I'm singing it, and it's I as hard as I try is coming out as a proper singer.
- 22:54SPEAKER_01: So I look back at that and laugh.
- 22:56SPEAKER_01: And every time I hear that song, I laugh because I'm laughing.
- 22:59SPEAKER_00: I'm laughing now.
- 23:01SPEAKER_00: That's great.
- 23:02SPEAKER_00: I'm like visualizing that.
- 23:03SPEAKER_00: That's great.
- 23:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 23:06SPEAKER_01: You know, I used to have a thing that I try something new once every year, and just try it.
- 23:11SPEAKER_01: You don't have to love it, you don't have to like it.
- 23:13SPEAKER_01: And so the whole opera thing came along.
- 23:15SPEAKER_01: I was taking voice lessons, and my teacher said, You have this quality, and I have a very high soprano.
- 23:21SPEAKER_01: And so I just thought, okay.
- 23:23SPEAKER_01: I ended up loving it.
- 23:25SPEAKER_01: And I thought, well, this is a whole other side that I never knew that I was gonna do, but yeah, you surprised us.
- 23:32SPEAKER_01: Little piece of my history, I definitely don't do it anymore.
- 23:35SPEAKER_00: But you surprised us.
- 23:37SPEAKER_00: You did that, you accomplished that.
- 23:40SPEAKER_00: You did surprise us.
- 23:42SPEAKER_00: I appreciate that.
- 23:43SPEAKER_00: That was a good one.
- 23:44SPEAKER_00: All right, well, we're gonna lead into what you're doing now, so I'm gonna just share the screen here with the audience and say, hold on, are we here or not?
- 23:55SPEAKER_00: One second.
- 23:58SPEAKER_00: Somehow.
- 23:59SPEAKER_00: No, okay.
- 24:01SPEAKER_00: Well, no, wrong one.
- 24:04SPEAKER_00: I'm trying to get your website up here.
- 24:07SPEAKER_00: There we are! Yay! Let's remember, and we want to know where we can find you.
- 24:13SPEAKER_00: What are you doing these days?
- 24:15SPEAKER_00: Tell us a little bit more about your work and life purpose.
- 24:18SPEAKER_00: We want to know more, Beth.
- 24:20SPEAKER_01: Well, I so appreciate this opportunity.
- 24:22SPEAKER_01: BethRobbins.com.
- 24:24SPEAKER_01: And the only thing I would say about that is that my last name, Robins, is spelled with one B.
- 24:29SPEAKER_01: My colleagues Tony and Mel use two B's.
- 24:32SPEAKER_01: So Beth Robbins is just spelled with the one B.
- 24:34SPEAKER_01: Bethrobbins.com, that's my website.
- 24:37SPEAKER_01: I have all my books are on there.
- 24:39SPEAKER_01: I am a coach.
- 24:40SPEAKER_01: I love to coach both men and women, typically the 45 and up crowd who are maybe going through a transition in their life, like a divorce, a job change, a move across the country, kids leaving the nest, all those things where they're like, or they're in a career that they're just not feeling fulfilled.
- 24:59SPEAKER_01: They've done the do, you know, they've got the cars and the garage and the big house, but there's something inside churning that there's got to be something else for me to do with this one life that I have.
- 25:10SPEAKER_01: So that's the crux of what I do as a coach.
- 25:13SPEAKER_01: I created something on the school platform, S-K-O-O-L.
- 25:17SPEAKER_01: It's the seize the day academy, and it's a free platform.
- 25:21SPEAKER_01: Anybody can come in.
- 25:22SPEAKER_01: It's it's a welcoming place to build community online where I have courses that you can do all free.
- 25:30SPEAKER_01: I do live trainings on there, and just giving people a jumping-off start, like I'm not sure if this is for me, or you know, I'm curious, or whatever, and they can come in and then they can also be part of a community.
- 25:44SPEAKER_01: They can say, Hey, I'm going through this, or this happened.
- 25:47SPEAKER_01: Has anybody else experienced this or that?
- 25:50SPEAKER_01: And I just am today starting a an in-person community in North County of San Diego, where I'm gathering.
- 26:00SPEAKER_01: And this one's gathering women who are in those places that I just mentioned to come together in person and really connect on a deeper level beyond you know, your name and where you live, and if you have a dog or a cat or you're married, or what you do, going into those deeper levels, like what did you want to be when you were a little girl?
- 26:19SPEAKER_01: You know, when you grew up and the grown-ups would ask you, what was that for you?
- 26:23SPEAKER_01: And just feeling that people are craving community now.
- 26:28SPEAKER_01: It's funny because it's so far after COVID when we all isolated ourselves, but really feeling this, people are looking for other people.
- 26:38SPEAKER_01: And the goal is so that people won't have to go through what I did alone.
- 26:45SPEAKER_01: Because I think that's also why it took me so daggone long to get where I am after my divorce, is that I was resisting.
- 26:52SPEAKER_01: Number two, I thought, oh, I'll read the books and go to webinars.
- 26:56SPEAKER_01: It wasn't enough.
- 26:57SPEAKER_01: I needed a coach to say, hold up the mirror, this is really going on, and just empower you to see that you are much stronger than you think, and that you already have everything that you need.
- 27:11SPEAKER_01: And if you have a dream in your heart of something you've always wanted to do, you might be an attorney and you've had a 30-year career, but you've really always wanted to explore photography or setting up being a travel agent or something completely different, that it's never too late.
- 27:28SPEAKER_01: And I don't care if you're 85 years old, it is never too late to try something new to step into that dream that you have in your heart.
- 27:36SPEAKER_01: So that's what I do.
- 27:37SPEAKER_01: That's what my books are about.
- 27:39SPEAKER_01: Like I have five books for kids, I have two or three grown-up books and several compilation books.
- 27:45SPEAKER_00: So that people find you on social.
- 27:48SPEAKER_00: Do you go to all platforms?
- 27:50SPEAKER_01: I am on all platforms.
- 27:51SPEAKER_01: I think if you just put my name in there, Beth Robbins, and then also on Instagram, it's Beth Robbins Official.
- 27:59SPEAKER_01: And Facebook, I'm Beth Robbins, LinkedIn, I'm Beth Robbins.
- 28:03SPEAKER_01: I'm easy to find, I think.
- 28:05SPEAKER_00: Good.
- 28:07SPEAKER_00: We like easy.
- 28:08SPEAKER_00: We like easy and we like you.
- 28:10SPEAKER_00: And we thank you for bringing your book and your coaching and your all your wisdom to the surface here.
- 28:18SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna give it over to you for some closing remarks as we start to wrap it up.
- 28:22SPEAKER_00: But I want to say thank you again for your diligence of service and you know, living life, you know, in Carpadium.
- 28:30SPEAKER_00: I mean, I just I just love season the moment.
- 28:31SPEAKER_00: I love everything about what your book reflects, and everything you share today was inspiring.
- 28:36SPEAKER_00: So, Beth, I'm gonna hand it over to you for some closing remarks.
- 28:41SPEAKER_01: Aw, thank you so much.
- 28:42SPEAKER_01: You are so generous with your time.
- 28:45SPEAKER_01: I just want to say that you know what I was saying before, that you are already have everything that you need.
- 28:52SPEAKER_01: When you get a dream that comes into your head or your heart, it wakes you up at three o'clock in the morning.
- 28:57SPEAKER_01: Understand that that came to you for a reason and a purpose.
- 29:01SPEAKER_01: You don't need to know the how, that's really none of your business.
- 29:04SPEAKER_01: It's just to know the what and the why.
- 29:06SPEAKER_01: Sinking your teeth into that, and all you really need to know is what is the next step?
- 29:11SPEAKER_01: What is one thing I could do with what I have from where I am, and do it.
- 29:17SPEAKER_01: And understand that you know, we all carry identities.
- 29:21SPEAKER_01: You know, talk about I was a people pleaser, I was a mom, and I was a wife, and this, I was, I was a chauffeur and a cook and all those things, but are you really?
- 29:29SPEAKER_01: That is the true identity.
- 29:32SPEAKER_01: And you are not your circumstances, your situation, or your condition in life.
- 29:38SPEAKER_01: Those are things that you when you identify with, and especially if you hold on to a little victim story, those are the things that keep you at a very low vibration, and they will keep you stuck on that hamster wheel.
- 29:51SPEAKER_01: And as soon as you make that choice to seize the day, seize your day, to let go and realize that that's just a situation, it's just a circumstance, it's not who you are.
- 30:03SPEAKER_01: And when you can let go and let yourself fly, that choice that is a seize the day choice.
- 30:10SPEAKER_00: There you go.
- 30:11SPEAKER_00: There's a little bit of coaching for us all, and that was amazing.
- 30:15SPEAKER_00: We got some feedback here, Beth.
- 30:17SPEAKER_00: You've built around coaching, speaking, and content for quite a long time as your audience and business have grown.
- 30:23SPEAKER_00: What's one part of the business you still find takes too much of your personal time?
- 30:28SPEAKER_00: If it does, if it does, it's okay.
- 30:31SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 30:32SPEAKER_01: So I think that it is all the back end business.
- 30:36SPEAKER_01: And I got really wise this year and hired other people to take care of that for me because that doesn't light me up.
- 30:43SPEAKER_01: And at its best, it's like I think find the things that you're good at that you love that light you up because that's how you keep from burning yourself out.
- 30:54SPEAKER_01: And as an entrepreneur, solopreneur, you know, we try to wear all the hats all the time.
- 31:00SPEAKER_01: We never really move the business, we don't scale, we don't actually do the do that we came to do.
- 31:07SPEAKER_02: We're so busy, like to be like quicksand, yeah, like the email.
- 31:10SPEAKER_02: It's so heavy, it's so heavy, it like implodes.
- 31:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so yeah, I think, and it still does because there's a little piece of me that is still wants to be in control.
- 31:22SPEAKER_01: So even though somebody else might be doing it, I might be going, Hey, are you gonna have something done?
- 31:28SPEAKER_01: We gotta do what Mel says.
- 31:29SPEAKER_01: Let them.
- 31:30SPEAKER_01: Oh, yes, but then there's also I'm gonna write her sequel, and it's gonna be Forgive Them.
- 31:36SPEAKER_00: That's good.
- 31:38SPEAKER_00: I'll be getting that ASAP.
- 31:40SPEAKER_00: Oh, that's good, that's good.
- 31:41SPEAKER_00: There's so much more to unpack in that.
- 31:44SPEAKER_00: But with that being said, we're gonna have to come back for another segment to keep that conversation going because we could talk about that one for quite a bit, because a big, a big one, forgive them.
- 31:53SPEAKER_00: But with that, I want to say thank you so much to everybody that's here.
- 31:57SPEAKER_00: Thank you for listening.

- 32:19SPEAKER_00: This was Beth Robbins, special guest today on the show.
- 32:22SPEAKER_00: And that being said, we're gonna get on out of here.
- 32:24SPEAKER_00: Thank you, and Beth.
- 32:26SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 32:28SPEAKER_00: Here we go.
- 32:29SPEAKER_02: And every step.
