Latest / Foul Territory / Ken Rosenthal: Inside the O’s-Angels trade, Pirates poking, QO YES surge + Blue Jays in on Kyle Tucker?
Transcript
- 0:06Speaker 1: Inside Scoop time quick Hitters with FT senior insider Ken Rosenthal. Ken,
- 0:09Speaker 1: let's get right to the Orioles Angels trade. I love
- 0:12Speaker 1: a big leaguer for big leaguer deal. We kind of
- 0:15Speaker 1: smash the Oriols for this one for giving up on
- 0:16Speaker 1: Grayson Rodriguez.
- 0:17Speaker 2: But what do you think?
- 0:20Speaker 3: Well, I heard what you guys are saying, and certainly
- 0:23Speaker 3: your points of view are understandable. I did talk to
- 0:26Speaker 3: some people this morning. I think I have a little
- 0:28Speaker 3: bit better feel for where the Oriols are on this,
- 0:30Speaker 3: and I'll try to relay that now. Obviously, Grayson Rodriguez,
- 0:34Speaker 3: even if he's healthy in twenty twenty six, is going
- 0:37Speaker 3: to be probably on some kind of innings limit. He's
- 0:40Speaker 3: not going to pitch one hundred and fifty innings in
- 0:43Speaker 3: this next season after all that he has been through.
- 0:46Speaker 3: Hasn't pitched since July thirty first, twenty twenty four in
- 0:49Speaker 3: the major leagues, so that's twenty twenty six. Then you ask, Okay,
- 0:54Speaker 3: that's fine, but what about the next three years? Because
- 0:57Speaker 3: he's under club control for all of them, and that
- 0:59Speaker 3: is where the Orioles are obviously showing a vote of
- 1:02Speaker 3: no confidence here in his ability to stay healthy long term.
- 1:06Speaker 3: And they feel that in getting Taylor Ward, a guy
- 1:09Speaker 3: who was a right handed bat and remember there's a
- 1:12Speaker 3: shortage of right handed hitting outfielders in this market, it's
- 1:15Speaker 3: severe shortage. Well, they're going to be better in twenty
- 1:19Speaker 3: twenty six, and they're taking the gamble that Grayson Rodriguez
- 1:23Speaker 3: is not going to haunt them. Obviously it is a gamble,
- 1:26Speaker 3: and I can see both sides of it. But what
- 1:31Speaker 3: you guys were saying about giving up that long term
- 1:33Speaker 3: starting pitching asset, no team wants to do that. The
- 1:36Speaker 3: fact that the Orioles did it to me indicates that
- 1:39Speaker 3: they just feel that he is never going to be
- 1:41Speaker 3: the guy we all thought he's going to be. And now,
- 1:44Speaker 3: if you're Grays and Rodriguez, you want to prove them wrong.
- 1:48Speaker 4: One million, one million percent.
- 1:50Speaker 5: Speaking of proving people wrong, we were arguing the last
- 1:52Speaker 5: few days about qualifying offers.
- 1:54Speaker 4: Four guys, four guys. Ken.
- 1:56Speaker 5: Did the teams make mistakes when they put out these
- 1:58Speaker 5: qualifying offers or did they expect a lot of these
- 2:01Speaker 5: guys to say, yes, y'all, i'll take twenty two million, Ken,
- 2:04Speaker 5: I'll take your twenty two million you make aj When.
- 2:08Speaker 3: A team makes that decision to extend the qualifying offer,
- 2:11Speaker 3: they're taking a calculated gamble and they're saying, Okay, if
- 2:15Speaker 3: the guy accepts, we're good with that. With the team
- 2:18Speaker 3: doing that, with them making the qualifying offer, they have
- 2:21Speaker 3: to be good with the player taking it.
- 2:23Speaker 6: Now.
- 2:23Speaker 3: The risk is the player does take it, and maybe
- 2:25Speaker 3: they don't have enough payroll to cover it, or if
- 2:29Speaker 3: they need the player or want the player, he leaves
- 2:31Speaker 3: and they get draft pick compensation and only that in return.
- 2:35Speaker 3: Each case is different. I wrote about them all last week,
- 2:38Speaker 3: and honestly, I was surprised by the starting pitchers Woodroof
- 2:42Speaker 3: and Imenaga more so than Grisham and Torres taking them,
- 2:46Speaker 3: because starting pitching seems to be at such a premium,
- 2:50Speaker 3: and you would think that those guys would command multi
- 2:54Speaker 3: year deals, and maybe they would have Woodroof and Imenaga.
- 2:57Speaker 3: I'm sure they could have actually, but with the qualifying
- 3:01Speaker 3: offer number now at twenty two point zero two to
- 3:03Speaker 3: five million over twenty two million, it's awfully enticing for
- 3:07Speaker 3: all of these guys. And you guys touched on this earlier,
- 3:10Speaker 3: Scott did. Guys who are not elite, they're the guys
- 3:14Speaker 3: who get hammered by the qualifying offer because teams are
- 3:17Speaker 3: reluctant to sign them, give up the draft picks, extend
- 3:20Speaker 3: the multi year contract, all that. So in each case,
- 3:24Speaker 3: I understand where the player was coming from. Even with
- 3:26Speaker 3: the lockout looming after this season, they're taking the calculated
- 3:31Speaker 3: gamble of their own that we'll go back in the
- 3:34Speaker 3: market next year with no qualifying offer attached to us,
- 3:38Speaker 3: and regardless of the lockout doesn't deter necessarily what free
- 3:42Speaker 3: agency is going to be, and they'll take their chances again. Now,
- 3:45Speaker 3: Grisham is the one that is probably the most fascinating
- 3:49Speaker 3: of these acceptances. And I know Yankee fans all over
- 3:53Speaker 3: the place were screaming and yelling last night. This is
- 3:55Speaker 3: going to screw us up. Well, I'm sure fans in
- 3:58Speaker 3: other cities without the law jests of the Yankees, without
- 4:01Speaker 3: the resources of the Yankees, have no pity for their
- 4:04Speaker 3: particular situation. The Yankees, too, knew that Trent Grisham might
- 4:09Speaker 3: take it. They knew he had one good year after
- 4:13Speaker 3: a kind of up and down career, and certainly the
- 4:16Speaker 3: possibility existed even in a thin market for outfielders where
- 4:19Speaker 3: he was probably the third best behind Tucker and Bellinger.
- 4:23Speaker 3: But at the same time, they'll figure this out, and
- 4:27Speaker 3: they're gonna have to figure it out financially. But I
- 4:30Speaker 3: know hal Steinbernna talks about getting under three hundred million
- 4:33Speaker 3: all the time, and that's his goal, it seems. But
- 4:36Speaker 3: my gosh, they could absorb Trent Grisham, they can sign
- 4:39Speaker 3: Cody Bellinger, they can fix their starting pitching, add to
- 4:42Speaker 3: their bullpen. They can do all of that even with
- 4:45Speaker 3: Trent Grisham's signing. It's not like the Pittsburgh Pirates just
- 4:48Speaker 3: got stuck with twenty two million they don't want. And
- 4:51Speaker 3: the Brewers. One more thing to you, guys. We wrote
- 4:55Speaker 3: about this today Will Salmon and I. The assumption a
- 4:58Speaker 3: lot of people made after Driff accepted was that, uh oh,
- 5:02Speaker 3: Freddie Perolt is gone. In fact, when I tweeted the
- 5:04Speaker 3: news yesterday, the first response was bye bye Freddy. Not necessarily.
- 5:09Speaker 3: In fact, the way the Brewers are talking not that
- 5:11Speaker 3: way at all. We quoted in this story their owner
- 5:14Speaker 3: Mark Attanasio and their president of baseball Operations Matt Arnold,
- 5:18Speaker 3: as saying, these are different scenarios, independent of each other,
- 5:22Speaker 3: and we are excited about our rotation. If you're excited
- 5:26Speaker 3: about your rotation on the record, I doubt you'll be
- 5:30Speaker 3: breaking up that rotation anytime soon. Freddie Perolt is making
- 5:33Speaker 3: eight million, Corbyn Burns was making fifteen million. Much different scenario.
- 5:40Speaker 1: Holiday shopping season is here and we have you covered
- 5:45Speaker 1: from head to toe.
- 5:47Speaker 6: Let's take to talk about an area that's not quite
- 5:49Speaker 6: close to the toes.
- 5:51Speaker 4: Let's get crazy with this holiday season.
- 5:53Speaker 6: Yeah that's Meundies. I'm spinning around, but the holiday season.
- 5:56Speaker 6: Now you can get me Undie's with some holiday prints
- 5:59Speaker 6: on them.
- 6:00Speaker 1: That's right, ridiculously soft fabric holiday prints, matching holiday prints
- 6:04Speaker 1: with your special person. Or you can coordinate pjs for
- 6:07Speaker 1: the family photo. And right now you can get up
- 6:10Speaker 1: to fifty percent off with the code foul. We rock
- 6:12Speaker 1: me Undies. You should too. We're talking over thirty million
- 6:16Speaker 1: pairs sold. Knock out all your holiday gifting needs today
- 6:20Speaker 1: with me Undies. To get exclusive holiday deals up to
- 6:23Speaker 1: yep I said it, fifty percent off, go to meundies
- 6:27Speaker 1: dot com slash foul and enter promo code foul. That's
- 6:31Speaker 1: m e U N d I e s dot com
- 6:34Speaker 1: slash f o u L promo code foul for up
- 6:37Speaker 1: to fifty percent off.
- 6:40Speaker 6: Does this change in the next CBA, Has the qualifying
- 6:43Speaker 6: offer gotten too big for its breitches because the all
- 6:47Speaker 6: the players are now taken and the owners are like,
- 6:49Speaker 6: wait a minute, this was an advantage to us. Does
- 6:52Speaker 6: this change and it gets completely wiped out?
- 6:56Speaker 3: You could, Aj, I mean Ieric, I'm sorry. Oh if
- 6:59Speaker 3: you miss, I apologize already. I am sorry Eric for
- 7:05Speaker 3: calling you by the wrong name. Sorry AJ calling Eric
- 7:09Speaker 3: by the wrong name. In the last CBA. If you guys, remember,
- 7:12Speaker 3: the qualifying offer was on the table in exchange for
- 7:15Speaker 3: an international draft. Now, given this next set of negotiations,
- 7:20Speaker 3: I have no idea what kind of offer is going
- 7:22Speaker 3: to be made regarding the qualifying offer, But at the
- 7:25Speaker 3: same time, it certainly will be something that is subject
- 7:29Speaker 3: to negotiation. And of course the owners might seek an
- 7:32Speaker 3: entirely new landscape with a salary cap. I don't know
- 7:36Speaker 3: that they will achieve that. I seriously doubt that they will,
- 7:39Speaker 3: but that would change things too if they achieved a
- 7:42Speaker 3: salary cap. So yeah, it certainly will be negotiated. Eric,
- 7:46Speaker 3: And now AJ, you can ask a question.
- 7:49Speaker 4: Oh wow, thank you Ken.
- 7:51Speaker 5: By the way, Eric says, that's the biggest compliment he's
- 7:53Speaker 5: ever been giving his life. So thank you for making
- 7:55Speaker 5: Eric's life. Ken, that was really nice of you. But
- 7:58Speaker 5: what I want to know is you brought up the Pirates, okay,
- 8:00Speaker 5: and you said, oh, it's not like the pirates eating.
- 8:02Speaker 5: Did the Pirates really make an offer to Josh? I mean,
- 8:06Speaker 5: then the offer wasn't really close to what he ended
- 8:08Speaker 5: up getting. So it's like me saying, Ken, you're gonna
- 8:11Speaker 5: buy me dinner one day. It's like it's never gonna happen.
- 8:14Speaker 5: So like the Pirates like, oh, hey, guys, we got
- 8:16Speaker 5: to like seventy five to eighty million.
- 8:18Speaker 4: He signed for ninety two million.
- 8:21Speaker 5: Is this all just posturing by the Pirates to say, hey,
- 8:24Speaker 5: we're trying fans.
- 8:27Speaker 3: First off, I believe they made the offer because Jeff
- 8:29Speaker 3: Passen reported it, and I have no reason to believe
- 8:32Speaker 3: that the report was inaccurate. Now the motivations and the
- 8:37Speaker 3: actual realities here and what might happen different story. Last
- 8:41Speaker 3: week at the meetings we reported this, we started hearing
- 8:43Speaker 3: that both the Marlins and the Pirates were talking about
- 8:47Speaker 3: being more aggressive with their payrolls, spending more this off season. Now,
- 8:51Speaker 3: it's one thing to say it, it's another thing to
- 8:53Speaker 3: do it. And if you're a Kyle Schwarber or a
- 8:58Speaker 3: Josh Naylor or any major free agent, let's throw peed
- 9:00Speaker 3: a Lonzo in there too, since the Pirates clearly are
- 9:02Speaker 3: looking for a bat. If you have a better alternative
- 9:06Speaker 3: than the Pirates, you're going to take that alternative. Unless
- 9:10Speaker 3: the Pirates go above where everyone else is in the market.
- 9:14Speaker 3: They didn't do that according to Jeff Passens report with Naylor.
- 9:18Speaker 3: So it's nice that they're trying, but let's see them
- 9:22Speaker 3: start succeeding. And you know what, too, free agency is
- 9:26Speaker 3: one way to get players. There's another way to get
- 9:28Speaker 3: players and take on money, and it's through trades and
- 9:30Speaker 3: you can take money off a team's hands, and that
- 9:33Speaker 3: perhaps is the better way for the Pirates to go
- 9:35Speaker 3: because free agency is going to be difficult for them.
- 9:38Speaker 3: Like I said, any free agent with a better option,
- 9:42Speaker 3: a more competitive option in terms of what they're going
- 9:44Speaker 3: to do on the field the team, they're going to
- 9:47Speaker 3: take that option rather than play for Pittsburgh.
- 9:50Speaker 1: Okay, back for one bonus question. We got two minutes
- 9:52Speaker 1: here during the break, and let's just continue on the Pirates.
- 9:54Speaker 1: Can I mean Mark finesand from MLB wrote they might
- 9:57Speaker 1: up the payroll by forty to fifty mil. They were
- 9:59Speaker 1: a eighty five mil according to COT's contracts in twenty
- 10:02Speaker 1: twenty five, which ranked twenty six, highest since they ranked
- 10:05Speaker 1: twenty six and twenty eighteen when they had ninety point
- 10:07Speaker 1: six mil. Just to show how pathetic it's been there.
- 10:10Speaker 1: So can we all just have a little laugh when
- 10:12Speaker 1: we see, you know, they have interest in someone like
- 10:15Speaker 1: Kyle Schwarber, for example, Do we really think Kyle Schwarber
- 10:19Speaker 1: is going to make a decision to sign with the
- 10:21Speaker 1: Pirates over everyone else. I think we just want to
- 10:22Speaker 1: know how we should set the tone with Pittsburgh the
- 10:25Speaker 1: rest of the offseason.
- 10:26Speaker 2: Here.
- 10:27Speaker 3: The only way Kyle Schwarber signs with them is if
- 10:29Speaker 3: they outbid everyone by I don't know, twenty thirty forty million,
- 10:33Speaker 3: whatever the case might be, and they're not going to
- 10:35Speaker 3: do that. So I am interested to see what the
- 10:39Speaker 3: Pirates do. And when I wrote about them last week,
- 10:42Speaker 3: I said, believe it or not, these teams, the Pirates
- 10:45Speaker 3: and Marlins are talking about increasing payroll, and it's believe
- 10:49Speaker 3: it when you see it, like I said, So let's
- 10:53Speaker 3: see how this plays out before judging them, because I
- 10:56Speaker 3: do expect them to take on payroll. And now whether
- 10:58Speaker 3: they do it wisely or not, and how they do
- 11:00Speaker 3: that remains to be seen. But at the very least,
- 11:04Speaker 3: it's encouraging these teams are doing that. What their motivations are,
- 11:08Speaker 3: that's a conversation for another day.
- 11:11Speaker 1: Yep, I agree, and we will have it at some point.
- 11:13Speaker 1: We got a few months here in the off season. Ken,
- 11:15Speaker 1: Thank you so much. We'll talk to you soon.
- 11:18Speaker 3: Thanks guys.
- 11:20Speaker 1: Spreading rumors, How about this one from Jeff Passon's ESPN article.
- 11:25Speaker 1: He put out his Big Notes column for the offseason,
- 11:27Speaker 1: and he said the Blue Jays are considered by other
- 11:30Speaker 1: front offices to be the favorites.
- 11:31Speaker 2: To land Kyle Tucker. Wow, that's huge. He's a great
- 11:39Speaker 2: fit there.
- 11:40Speaker 4: He's a great fit on a lot of teams, Scott,
- 11:42Speaker 4: So let's not just throw him in there.
- 11:44Speaker 1: I want him on a team where he doesn't have
- 11:46Speaker 1: to be the head honcho. Check there's a head honcho
- 11:50Speaker 1: worth a half a billion dollars.
- 11:54Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 11:55Speaker 1: I think he fits the mo of what we saw
- 11:58Speaker 1: from a team that had a very your cut identity, right,
- 12:02Speaker 1: excellent defensive team, a lot of guys that can do
- 12:05Speaker 1: a lot of different things. Well, uh, contact made quality abs. Sure,
- 12:10Speaker 1: that's what every team hopes to have. But isn't that
- 12:13Speaker 1: what the identity of the Blue Jays was?
- 12:16Speaker 4: Tough at bats? Yep, grind out of bats.
- 12:18Speaker 2: Kyle Tucker does that?
- 12:20Speaker 4: Boy? Do you think he's so valuable?
- 12:22Speaker 2: Also?
- 12:22Speaker 1: Yeah, many player, many teams want him. Aj many teams
- 12:25Speaker 1: are not going to fork up four hundred plus million
- 12:27Speaker 1: dollars the Blue Jays can.
- 12:29Speaker 5: Well, then if they get him, they lose bo right,
- 12:32Speaker 5: probably is Gosmin's a free agent.
- 12:35Speaker 2: Too, No, no, so if they lose Facett and.
- 12:39Speaker 5: Fast So if they lose him or if they signed Tucker,
- 12:42Speaker 5: they're probably gonna lose Bow. And their defense is still
- 12:44Speaker 5: okay in the infield because you still have him in as,
- 12:46Speaker 5: you still have Clement, you have Ladie at first, and
- 12:48Speaker 5: you still have I guess you put Barger at third.
- 12:51Speaker 4: That's still not terrible.
- 12:52Speaker 2: It's good.
- 12:53Speaker 5: Your outfield is pretty good with with our show, Springer,
- 12:59Speaker 5: Tucker's good. And then they're pitching is pretty good and
- 13:02Speaker 5: they sign a reliever or two. It's pretty good, dude.
- 13:06Speaker 5: Blue Jays fans start Colin Rogers, Carl Rodgers, get a
- 13:09Speaker 5: new phone and get some sports century.
- 13:13Speaker 1: You still also have, I mean, really Springer more on
- 13:16Speaker 1: the DH side of things, or him and Santander can
- 13:20Speaker 1: kind of mix and match. Maybe Santander finds it and
- 13:23Speaker 1: gets healthy this offseason and comes back and plays well
- 13:25Speaker 1: for them. There's the Lucas David Schneider on the platoon side. Like,
- 13:30Speaker 1: there's a lot coming back for Toronto. It's nice to
- 13:35Speaker 1: hear this if you're a Blue Jays fan and you're
- 13:37Speaker 1: concerned that Bo might not sign.
- 13:39Speaker 2: There the question is.
- 13:42Speaker 1: If you're going after Kyle Tucker, why aren't you trying
- 13:46Speaker 1: to fork up the money for Bobachett.
- 13:48Speaker 4: And they sign more valuable.
- 13:49Speaker 1: That's clearly what we're hearing here, because Kyle Tucker is
- 13:53Speaker 1: going to get more money than Bobachett.
- 13:55Speaker 2: Correct, we all agree on that.
- 13:57Speaker 1: Yes, Kyle Tucker is gonna get like conservative probably four
- 14:00Speaker 1: hundred million dollars where Bo is probably more in the
- 14:03Speaker 1: two hundred range, maybe a little bit more, probably a
- 14:07Speaker 1: little twenty a little less.
- 14:09Speaker 2: Okay, So do you agree to choose Tucker over Bo?
- 14:16Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 14:16Speaker 6: If you can, if you can trust that Andre Simenez
- 14:18Speaker 6: is going to play shortstop for you, the entire season.
- 14:21Speaker 6: If you feel like that is that's where the value is.
- 14:24Speaker 6: Shortstop's a very important position, and Kyle Tucker is a
- 14:30Speaker 6: very important player. So I don't think I don't think
- 14:33Speaker 6: they're one and the same. You can't look at it
- 14:35Speaker 6: the same way. But you also, how many teams have
- 14:39Speaker 6: two guys that are getting paid over four hundred million
- 14:42Speaker 6: dollars If Tucker gets four hundred million and Glad he's
- 14:45Speaker 6: already getting five hundred zero. Nobody's getting that much money.
- 14:50Speaker 6: And I have a hard time believing that they do it.
- 14:53Speaker 6: But I also have a hard time believing that anywhere
- 14:56Speaker 6: Kyle Tucker goes isn't a good fit, even if he's
- 14:58Speaker 6: supposed to be the leader. This guy, this guy is
- 15:02Speaker 6: a bona fide aircraft carrier and where he's wherever he lands,
- 15:08Speaker 6: is going to be massive upgrading for their lineup. And
- 15:10Speaker 6: I know Blue Jay fans are gonna be like, well
- 15:12Speaker 6: what about this guy?
- 15:13Speaker 4: This guy?
- 15:14Speaker 6: There isn't anybody in that lineup that should take time
- 15:17Speaker 6: away from Kyle Tucker. If your team wants to get
- 15:20Speaker 6: Kyle Tucker.
- 15:23Speaker 2: AJ, We're gonna do things a little bit differently. Here.
- 15:26Speaker 2: I am wearing the Perfect Gene.
- 15:28Speaker 1: And I remember seeing ads for the Perfect Gene like
- 15:31Speaker 1: most comfortable fit ever, perfect fit on your body, and
- 15:35Speaker 1: I was like, I'm not buying it. Now I'm buying it,
- 15:40Speaker 1: and we're showing it off on.
- 15:42Speaker 5: FT plea, please get off my desk. First of all, Scott,
- 15:44Speaker 5: Second of all, I was with you. I was skeptical
- 15:46Speaker 5: about Perfect Gene and then I got a pair and
- 15:48Speaker 5: the fitting was perfect. And my body's not hard to
- 15:51Speaker 5: fix is I got a big old rear and big
- 15:53Speaker 5: old legs from years of squatting, and they fit perfectly.
- 15:55Speaker 4: They're stretchy, they're comfortable, they're.
- 15:57Speaker 5: Fashionable, They're everything I look for in a g and
- 16:00Speaker 5: now I have an extra pair and I'm gonna wear
- 16:02Speaker 5: them all the time.

- 16:24Speaker 1: wrote in his article, the Dodgers are expected to have
- 16:26Speaker 1: interest if Tucker's open to a short term arrangement. Why
- 16:29Speaker 1: would he be open to a short term arrangement if
- 16:31Speaker 1: he's going to get larger offers like that that's popped
- 16:33Speaker 1: up with the Dodgers every once in a while. Remember
- 16:35Speaker 1: they offered Bryce Harper high a their gnual value to me.
- 16:39Speaker 4: Sometimes people maybe just want to try it out for you.
- 16:41Speaker 1: No, not not when he's waited to get to this
- 16:43Speaker 1: point and he's still coming on.
- 16:44Speaker 2: You don't know.
- 16:45Speaker 4: You're not con Tucker. Maybe he wants to just try
- 16:47Speaker 4: La off for you or Kyle don't do it. Maybe
- 16:49Speaker 4: he wants to go NBA style Scott, no, Kyle build.
- 16:53Speaker 1: And then wait, what for the lockout the next year?
- 16:55Speaker 1: No way, he's signing a multi year contract other teams.
- 16:58Speaker 4: He put, I'm just trying to give your reason. You
- 17:00Speaker 4: asked me for a reason. I gave you the reason,
- 17:01Speaker 4: and you yelled.
- 17:02Speaker 2: You came up with a great reason, and you're right.
- 17:04Speaker 2: I apologize for yelling at you.
- 17:06Speaker 1: Other potential landing spots, AJ tell me if you think
- 17:09Speaker 1: any of these oriol spots are believable he had Oils
- 17:12Speaker 1: in there. I think that you can cross them off
- 17:13Speaker 1: the list after the Taylor Ward acquisition. I think the
- 17:16Speaker 1: Oriols clearly stated, yet, we're not playing in.
- 17:18Speaker 4: The kid, We're not playing in big boy land like that.
- 17:21Speaker 1: And I actually think they should spend their money on
- 17:23Speaker 1: pitching anyway. But the other teams listed on here were
- 17:25Speaker 1: the Phillies, Giants, Yankees and the Mets Yankees.
- 17:29Speaker 4: Yankees make a lot of sense.
- 17:31Speaker 1: Even with Christiaan back now and Jones and Dominguez and Judge.
- 17:35Speaker 4: They clearly have shown how much they like those guys.
- 17:40Speaker 2: What by not playing Diminga.
- 17:42Speaker 5: Yeah, by not playing dimingas the whole postseason, Yeah, they
- 17:45Speaker 5: clearly don't love him.
- 17:46Speaker 4: Mersham they just brought back. I mean Judges got to play.
- 17:51Speaker 1: Yeah, and Judge has to play the outfield. Stanton Sands
- 17:55Speaker 1: Dhing Okay, So Yankees, what about you, Kratz? Where do
- 18:00Speaker 1: you think is realistic? Give us your Phillies take of course,
- 18:03Speaker 1: I'll give the met side of the equation. I don't
- 18:06Speaker 1: see it. I don't see it for New York. I
- 18:08Speaker 1: think they're going to focus heavily on rebuilding the pitching staff.
- 18:12Speaker 1: I think they'll be okay on the lineup front, So
- 18:15Speaker 1: I don't just playing to what you said, I don't
- 18:16Speaker 1: think they're going to have two four or five hundred
- 18:18Speaker 1: plus million dollar guys there, and they're not the only
- 18:21Speaker 1: ones either. Lindor's getting paid a lot. I just don't
- 18:23Speaker 1: think that's where they're going to focus their resources. So
- 18:25Speaker 1: what do you think, Phillies. I think Giants could be
- 18:28Speaker 1: a realistic possibility for a player like that.
- 18:31Speaker 6: I think Giants could be realistic, but I think they
- 18:33Speaker 6: understand that they're just not going to get the extreme
- 18:39Speaker 6: value out of them because of that ballpark eighty one
- 18:41Speaker 6: games there, you're not going to get quite as much.
- 18:43Speaker 4: I think the.
- 18:44Speaker 6: Connection for the Phillies is there because they were going
- 18:48Speaker 6: to trade for him. They had the Castiano's bomb, you know,
- 18:53Speaker 6: supposed trade for Kyle Tucker this past season. So Don
- 18:56Speaker 6: Browski clearly likes him to add another ten year contract
- 19:02Speaker 6: to this aging roster with Harper being on his thirteen
- 19:07Speaker 6: year deal and Trey Turner being on his I think
- 19:10Speaker 6: his was twelve. Like I think it's I think it's
- 19:14Speaker 6: a stretch to think that, but the connection is already there.
- 19:18Speaker 6: So it's like if there's smoke, there's fire. Dombrowski clearly
- 19:22Speaker 6: liked him. He clearly was enough for them in a
- 19:25Speaker 6: one year rental. He wouldn't have to be the number
- 19:29Speaker 6: one guy if they bring back Schwarber, because you can't
- 19:34Speaker 6: bring this guy in. Everybody said, you can't bring him
- 19:36Speaker 6: in to be the leader. Harper's not the leader. Trey
- 19:39Speaker 6: Turner's not the leader. Pitchers can't be the leader. So
- 19:44Speaker 6: I feel like it's a stretch, but there is a
- 19:47Speaker 6: slight connection there.
- 19:49Speaker 4: Did you say Harper's not the leader in the Philly Shoreberries.
- 19:56Speaker 4: I think that.
- 19:57Speaker 5: I think that Harper's somewhat. I understand Schwarber's probably the guy,
- 20:02Speaker 5: but Harper's got to have some leadership qualities there. Because
- 20:05Speaker 5: I've been around that Phillies team, a lot of them
- 20:07Speaker 5: look through Harper to see how he's doing.
- 20:10Speaker 6: I think he's a leader on the field. I think
- 20:12Speaker 6: he's an energy guy. I think he says, look, we're
- 20:15Speaker 6: gonna get going, boys. I think it's a little bit
- 20:17Speaker 6: different complete off the field. I think it's so hard
- 20:21Speaker 6: for superstars to be the leader. So much is asked
- 20:25Speaker 6: of him, so much as asked day in and day
- 20:28Speaker 6: out interviews and this and that, and he's got I
- 20:33Speaker 6: just I'm just telling you from the guys that play
- 20:37Speaker 6: on the team currently, from what they said, I don't
- 20:40Speaker 6: see him as being that leader. Now he's getting older.
- 20:44Speaker 6: Could he be a guy that says, Hey, you know what,
- 20:46Speaker 6: I want to step up in that role. I saw
- 20:47Speaker 6: Rhys Hoskins do it. I I saw Kyle Schwarber do it.
- 20:51Speaker 6: I saw different guys do it. I think guys can change,
- 20:55Speaker 6: but it's hard when you are the star, like Bryce.
- 20:59Speaker 1: Harper, he's like the president. And then Schwarbert the chief
- 21:02Speaker 1: of staff. He's like doing all of the little teammate things.
- 21:07Speaker 2: Maybe that's nothing.
- 21:07Speaker 6: It is Harper's team. It's Harper's team. Schwarber's the leader.
- 21:12Speaker 6: Can you say both of those things?
- 21:14Speaker 2: No doubt you absolutely can
