- 0:05Speaker 1: NFL Now is a production of the NFL in partnership
- 0:08Speaker 1: with I Heart Radio. We are here every day to
- 0:18Speaker 1: answer life's biggest questions. Omar, Ruise Andrews Siciliano, this is
- 0:22Speaker 1: NFL Now. Thanks for joining us the Thursday before divisional round. Today.
- 0:26Speaker 1: The question is how exactly do you pronounce? And we
- 0:29Speaker 1: should have all known this the name of the new
- 0:32Speaker 1: Cowboys kicker. Apparently it's vis Kano. It is Viscano, who
- 0:38Speaker 1: was here last year with the Chargers. I know baseball
- 0:40Speaker 1: fans are going, what about Jose Viscaino? Like, did I
- 0:43Speaker 1: say it wrong? All these We'll get to that a
- 0:45Speaker 1: little bit later. Welcome to the show. There are far
- 0:47Speaker 1: more pressing matters. Omar is here talking Cowboys Niners coming
- 0:51Speaker 1: up shortly. Let's get the news out of the way here,
- 0:54Speaker 1: right out of the gates, and it's news of yet
- 0:56Speaker 1: again more openings for offensive coordinators. He and Rappaport and
- 1:02Speaker 1: Tom Pellicero with me for that one. If you include
- 1:06Speaker 1: the five teams that are looking for head coaches and
- 1:10Speaker 1: US entire new staff, I basically half the league right
- 1:13Speaker 1: now is looking for a play caller, including the Baltimore Ravens.
- 1:18Speaker 1: Just five head coach openings right now. This is all
- 1:21Speaker 1: about the coordinators this cycle and the latest a really
- 1:24Speaker 1: big one for a lot of reasons. First of all,
- 1:26Speaker 1: Greg Roman, who took Lamar Jackson to the highest of
- 1:29Speaker 1: heights and m v P really one of the more
- 1:32Speaker 1: productive coordinators that we've seen in the NFL, both from
- 1:35Speaker 1: his time with the Baltimore Ravens and with his time
- 1:38Speaker 1: with the San Francisco Fortnands, especially in the way that
- 1:41Speaker 1: he made his team's dynamic in the run game. He
- 1:44Speaker 1: is now out. He's not a firing minderstanding is well.
- 1:48Speaker 1: I guess this is something that Greg Roman released in
- 1:50Speaker 1: a statement via his agency that he is leaving h
- 1:53Speaker 1: and I think it was a situation that ran its course.
- 1:57Speaker 1: I know both sides, we're probably in agreement on this.
- 2:00Speaker 1: You know, Greg Roman, a big name now available, so
- 2:03Speaker 1: many teams needing off it's a coordinator. And then there's
- 2:06Speaker 1: the follow which is what does Lamar Jackson think about that? Now?
- 2:10Speaker 1: I would also say, as r G three, who knows
- 2:12Speaker 1: that building really well tweeted. Is always difficult to get
- 2:15Speaker 1: a wide receiver in free agency. That was another thing
- 2:17Speaker 1: with Greg. There was a lot here, a lot here,
- 2:20Speaker 1: But the main thing the Baltimore Ravens need o C. Yeah,
- 2:23Speaker 1: it is fascinating coach quarterback O see how this all
- 2:27Speaker 1: factors will hear from John Harbor and g M. Eric
- 2:29Speaker 1: to Costa coming up shortly. That was a previously scheduled
- 2:33Speaker 1: end of season press conference. Also interesting the type quarterback
- 2:37Speaker 1: and coordinator together. Tom, let's do it with the Bucketeers.
- 2:41Speaker 1: As Todd Bowles got rid of his O C today
- 2:43Speaker 1: and a lot of the staff. That's right, nine assistant
- 2:49Speaker 1: coaches will not be back for the Buccaneers, basically half
- 2:51Speaker 1: of Todd Bowles coaching staff. The most notable name on
- 2:54Speaker 1: that list, of course, offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich, who was
- 2:58Speaker 1: fired just a couple of years after he and Tom
- 3:01Speaker 1: Brady and Bruce Arians and company won a Super Bowl
- 3:04Speaker 1: in Tampa. Left which also was a head coaching candidate
- 3:07Speaker 1: last year. He was considered to be a strong candidate
- 3:09Speaker 1: for the Jaguars job, did not end up working out.
- 3:12Speaker 1: The results from Todd Bowles perspective really showed why change
- 3:16Speaker 1: was needed on defense. Despite all the injuries on that
- 3:18Speaker 1: side of the ball, they still were a top ten
- 3:20Speaker 1: unit this season, but the offense struggled they were fifteenth
- 3:23Speaker 1: in yards in scoring, one of the top passing offenses,
- 3:27Speaker 1: but dead last in running, dead last in big place.
- 3:31Speaker 1: Todd Bowles got this job in Tampa last and Bruce
- 3:34Speaker 1: Arians retired. That didn't happen until early March, not really
- 3:37Speaker 1: the time of year where you would have a lot
- 3:38Speaker 1: of options in terms of staffing. So this was very
- 3:41Speaker 1: much Bruce Arians staff that was in place. Now Todd
- 3:44Speaker 1: Bowles gets to bring in his own offensive staff. One
- 3:48Speaker 1: name to watch as Ian and Mike tweeted earlier Todd Mounkin,
- 3:51Speaker 1: the University of Georgia offensive coordinator, potentially could be back
- 3:55Speaker 1: in Tampa, and he used to be the OC there
- 3:58Speaker 1: and an assistant there under Dirk Cutter when he was
- 4:02Speaker 1: head coach in Tampa. We've official he gotten to Maybe
- 4:06Speaker 1: it's we're all getting old the part of the season
- 4:08Speaker 1: or the part of the year where we go, wait, minut,
- 4:09Speaker 1: didn't that guy just get drafted? Mike cafco is drafted
- 4:12Speaker 1: in and now he is Ian very much in the
- 4:15Speaker 1: conversation for head coaching openings, tell me about him very
- 4:21Speaker 1: much in the conversation. First, though a game, the Giants
- 4:24Speaker 1: are still in the playoffs. They still play on. What
- 4:26Speaker 1: they did as an organization and consultant with the coaches
- 4:30Speaker 1: available is they decided to push the interviews until after
- 4:34Speaker 1: the game. So Mike Half because the offensive coordinator one
- 4:36Speaker 1: year as a play caller with the New York Giants,
- 4:39Speaker 1: so much success, and someone who is really respected in
- 4:41Speaker 1: the league, also under the tutelage of Andy Rideno read
- 4:44Speaker 1: thought very highly of him. He's got three interviews, but
- 4:47Speaker 1: on Sunday he has got the Cults, the Panthers, and
- 4:51Speaker 1: the Texans. All those teams still need a head coach,
- 4:53Speaker 1: as do basically all of the teams with an opening,
- 4:56Speaker 1: so he gets a looked there on Sunday, very busy day. Meanwhile,
- 5:00Speaker 1: Wink Martindale uh the defensive coordinator for the Giants, just
- 5:03Speaker 1: one request, a little bit of a surp rise there,
- 5:05Speaker 1: but he is expected to meet with the coach that
- 5:07Speaker 1: also going to be on Sunday. Okay, And speaking of
- 5:10Speaker 1: coordinators whose names are out there who have games to
- 5:12Speaker 1: coach this weekend, Tom, what is the deal with Damiko
- 5:15Speaker 1: Ryan's lander. Unlike Mike Kafka, who's got a Saturday game,
- 5:21Speaker 1: it was a short week and he can knock out
- 5:23Speaker 1: his interviews on Sunday. Nika Ryan's game is on Sunday,
- 5:26Speaker 1: meaning that this week is the last opportunity he would
- 5:28Speaker 1: have four first interviews if the forty Niners advanced, So
- 5:32Speaker 1: he is packing in to a really busy schedule these
- 5:35Speaker 1: next few days. Dimiko Ryan's first head coaching interview of
- 5:38Speaker 1: this cycle is today with the Broncos. On Friday, he
- 5:41Speaker 1: will interview with the Texans, his old team from his
- 5:44Speaker 1: playing days, and I'm told the plan is also to
- 5:47Speaker 1: meet with the Colts and the Cardinals this week as well.
- 5:51Speaker 1: Certainly you can look at this and say it's not
- 5:52Speaker 1: ideal when he's preparing for a really important football game.
- 5:55Speaker 1: But Damiko Ryan's also was in the coaching circuit last year.
- 5:58Speaker 1: In fact, the Vikings wanted him back for a second interview.
- 6:00Speaker 1: He like lines offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, this year, just
- 6:03Speaker 1: felt he wasn't quite ready decided to take a step
- 6:06Speaker 1: back now. Demiko Ryan's along with in Gero Everro, the
- 6:09Speaker 1: two coaches who have requests your interviews with all five
- 6:12Speaker 1: teams that have vacancies. The Panthers also put one in
- 6:15Speaker 1: for Damiko Ryan's, but based upon scheduling issues, nothing is
- 6:18Speaker 1: set on that front yet. Andrew and going back to
- 6:21Speaker 1: draft years, Demiko Ryan's second round pick of the Texans
- 6:23Speaker 1: in OH six. He is only thirty eight years old,
- 6:26Speaker 1: which is still, by the way older than Sean McVeigh.
- 6:28Speaker 1: Thank you, Tom Pellicero, thank you, or speaking of that game,
- 6:32Speaker 1: the Niners and the Cowboys here, it is one of
- 6:35Speaker 1: the greatest rivalries, especially in the postseason that we know
- 6:38Speaker 1: in the National Football League. They are back for the
- 6:41Speaker 1: ninth time in the playoffs and the second straight year.
- 6:46Speaker 1: This is a great matchup for both their offense and
- 6:49Speaker 1: our defense because because of their flexibility, I mean, they
- 6:52Speaker 1: challenge you extremely. It's it's a well oiled you offense,
- 6:56Speaker 1: very creative. I think col does an outstanding job and
- 6:59Speaker 1: this will be a big challenge for us. Yeah, I mean,
- 7:01Speaker 1: I think that's how rivalries happen. And you guys knew
- 7:04Speaker 1: it in the eighties when it started out, and I
- 7:07Speaker 1: mean I just remember so much in my childhood from
- 7:10Speaker 1: sixth grade to ninth grades because I was here ninety four.
- 7:13Speaker 1: So it was the biggest rivalry in football to me
- 7:15Speaker 1: growing up. And then usually that goes away when you
- 7:17Speaker 1: don't meet in the playoffs. A bunch and um, we
- 7:20Speaker 1: had a big game last year, We got a big
- 7:21Speaker 1: game this year. So the more you do that, the
- 7:23Speaker 1: bigger it gets. Again. You love this one. Jane Slater
- 7:28Speaker 1: in Dallas. Holma Ruiz here as well. Kyle Shanahan talking
- 7:31Speaker 1: about his days as a kid when his father Mike
- 7:34Speaker 1: was coaching with the forty Niners and obviously talking a
- 7:36Speaker 1: lot about last year's playoff game, which was in Dallas. Jane,
- 7:40Speaker 1: I can't believe we've now gotten to the part of
- 7:42Speaker 1: the season where Dak Prescott, perhaps coming off his best
- 7:45Speaker 1: game in the NFL, people are asking, well, could he
- 7:49Speaker 1: keep up? Can he score enough points to keep up
- 7:52Speaker 1: with Brock Purty in the forty Niners. Well, just real quick,
- 7:57Speaker 1: I wanted to say, I'm sure you guys appreciate it
- 7:59Speaker 1: because you're about the same age as myself and Kyle.
- 8:01Speaker 1: Remember all of those starter jackets in the early nineties
- 8:04Speaker 1: as it related to the forty Niners and the Cowboys,
- 8:07Speaker 1: it was such a big rivalry. They're so hard to find,
- 8:11Speaker 1: by the way, those vintage ones. But let me talk
- 8:13Speaker 1: about football, because we need a vintage performance from Dak Prescott,
- 8:16Speaker 1: and I'm just talking from just a few days ago. Arguably,
- 8:19Speaker 1: one of his best games of the season, and the
- 8:21Speaker 1: Cowboys defense did a really good job getting in Tom
- 8:23Speaker 1: Brady's face. This was not one of the best games
- 8:25Speaker 1: he's played, and so the defense really needs to help
- 8:28Speaker 1: Dak Prescott out in this because when you consider some
- 8:30Speaker 1: of the weapons that Rock Party has around him, guys
- 8:33Speaker 1: like Christian McCaffrey, Brandon Nayuk, Deebo Samuel. I even asked
- 8:36Speaker 1: Mike McCarthy about that. He says that they haven't played
- 8:40Speaker 1: a player like Christian McCaffrey, and they certainly haven't played
- 8:42Speaker 1: a one to punch like Christian McCaffrey and Deebo Samuel,
- 8:45Speaker 1: so little room for error. They're not looking at Brought
- 8:48Speaker 1: Party as a rookie around here though. This guy was
- 8:50Speaker 1: six and I was a starter and just won his
- 8:51Speaker 1: first playoff game. But he can be dominant, and so
- 8:54Speaker 1: I think that they need to put up as many
- 8:56Speaker 1: points of the board as they can in order to
- 8:57Speaker 1: hang in here with the forty niners, and that's something
- 9:00Speaker 1: they are keenly aware of heading into this one this weekend.
- 9:03Speaker 1: A lot of respect coming back from the forty owners
- 9:05Speaker 1: for Dak Prescott in that playoff game last year twenty
- 9:07Speaker 1: three fifty four yards a touchdown in an interception from
- 9:12Speaker 1: Dak Prescott. When Kyle Shanahan was speaking earlier this week
- 9:15Speaker 1: about that Monday night performance, the near perfection performance from
- 9:19Speaker 1: Dak Prescott, he said, they expected that they expected him
- 9:21Speaker 1: to rise to the occasion and to deliver. And that's
- 9:24Speaker 1: the same Dak Prescott that they expect to see on Sunday. Obviously,
- 9:27Speaker 1: they'll be their job to make it tough and more
- 9:30Speaker 1: difficult for him. But when you look at Dak Prescott,
- 9:32Speaker 1: according to Kyle Shanahan, he can make every throw from
- 9:35Speaker 1: within the pocket. He has that presence to deliver the goods,
- 9:39Speaker 1: and then he has the knack for keeping plays alive
- 9:41Speaker 1: and delivering outside of the pocket. And now, when you
- 9:44Speaker 1: factor in the connection with Dalton Schultz, one that Mike
- 9:46Speaker 1: McCarthy said has been formed in the facility, they both
- 9:50Speaker 1: have that same work ethic, that same drive. And you
- 9:52Speaker 1: see the two touchdowns there against Tampa, first time a
- 9:55Speaker 1: tight end has scored multiple touchdowns in a playoff game
- 9:58Speaker 1: in their illustrious history. The forty Niners know they have
- 10:01Speaker 1: their hands full with that Dak Prescott led off and
- 10:04Speaker 1: still be prepared for on Sunday. Well, it would help
- 10:06Speaker 1: here too, Jane, if the Cowboys could run the ball.
- 10:09Speaker 1: Last year in the in the playoffs, they couldn't run
- 10:10Speaker 1: the ball. Against the Niners. They had seventy seven yards
- 10:13Speaker 1: rushing it. Over a third of that was from Dax scrambling. Yeah,
- 10:18Speaker 1: and if you look at the forty Niners, Rundy, they
- 10:20Speaker 1: are elite. They're averaging about seventy seven yards a game
- 10:23Speaker 1: this year, well close to seventy eight, what's one point? Uh,
- 10:27Speaker 1: But they are keenly aware of that as well. And look,
- 10:30Speaker 1: they want to run the ball in Dallas. They've talked
- 10:32Speaker 1: about that in recent weeks. They just haven't been able
- 10:34Speaker 1: to do so efficiently. A lot of the issue has
- 10:36Speaker 1: been some of the defensive stunts that we're seeing on
- 10:37Speaker 1: the other side of the ball, these last minute line
- 10:39Speaker 1: shifts that have kind of tripped them up a bit. Now,
- 10:42Speaker 1: it helped a little bit last week when you consider
- 10:44Speaker 1: the offensive line saw a little bit of stability to
- 10:46Speaker 1: spite despite starting with you know, Jason Peters over left tackle.
- 10:50Speaker 1: They had to do sort of a mid game adjustment
- 10:52Speaker 1: when they had to move Tyron Smith or Tyler Smith
- 10:55Speaker 1: right back to the left tackle. Position. You had to
- 10:57Speaker 1: move Connor McGovern back inside, and that essentially affects what
- 11:00Speaker 1: you're able to do with some of those jumbo packages
- 11:02Speaker 1: with Connor McGovern. But they only had thirty two tempts
- 11:05Speaker 1: last week. They were averaging about four yards per carry.
- 11:08Speaker 1: So we'll see what they're able to accomplish against the
- 11:10Speaker 1: forty Niners. I would say that the forty Niners past
- 11:12Speaker 1: defense is giving a lot giving up a lot more
- 11:15Speaker 1: in The Cowboys, of course, leaned heavily on the past
- 11:17Speaker 1: last week against the Bucks, so I anticipate they'll try
- 11:20Speaker 1: to get back to the run. But I imagine they're
- 11:22Speaker 1: still going to lean on Dat Prescott in that arm
- 11:24Speaker 1: in this one against the forty nine, Gino hit a
- 11:26Speaker 1: deep Ballgino Smith did last week against that forty Niners
- 11:28Speaker 1: past defense. So more what about the whole rest issue.
- 11:31Speaker 1: Niners have a little bit more and they are the
- 11:33Speaker 1: home team. Yeah, two days of extra preparation do the
- 11:36Speaker 1: forty Niners have? And I think if you went into
- 11:38Speaker 1: either locker room, nobody would make an excuse about it.
- 11:41Speaker 1: We want to provide some historical context here. It's happened
- 11:44Speaker 1: three times before in the postseason where a team played
- 11:47Speaker 1: on a Monday and then travels into Sunday game having
- 11:52Speaker 1: that short rest, and you see the Rams and the
- 11:54Speaker 1: Vikings both lost those game. Even more context here, it's
- 11:58Speaker 1: happened eight times all time where a team played on
- 12:02Speaker 1: the road on a Monday and then played at again
- 12:05Speaker 1: on a Sunday on a road. Those teams forty five
- 12:09Speaker 1: and one since nine, those road teams eighteen and sixteens.
- 12:14Speaker 1: So Collee Shanahan certainly not feeling sorry for the Cowboys
- 12:17Speaker 1: in that regard. He said, you look at the Rams
- 12:20Speaker 1: last year, who won on a Monday night against the Cardinals,
- 12:22Speaker 1: then went across the country against Tampa. We're up twenty
- 12:25Speaker 1: seven three at one point before finishing off Tom Brady
- 12:28Speaker 1: and company in that division round thriller. But looking ahead
- 12:31Speaker 1: to this one, I don't think the Cowboys well used
- 12:32Speaker 1: as excuse. Mike McCarthy saying they're already caught up in
- 12:35Speaker 1: their preparation for that one, and certainly in forty nine
- 12:37Speaker 1: is not letting the Cowboys with any other advantage in
- 12:40Speaker 1: that one. As a Ram sent Tom Brady into retirement
- 12:43Speaker 1: in that game. The question is did the Cowboys do
- 12:45Speaker 1: the same thing on Monday now? They're heading to Brady's hometown.
- 12:48Speaker 1: Thank you Omar and thank you Jane. The quarterbacks in
- 12:51Speaker 1: that game fascinating, a fourth round pick and Mr Irrelevant
- 12:55Speaker 1: in this game in Kansas City, cump out up on Saturday.
- 12:58Speaker 1: We have two first round picks, including Doug Peterson's quarterback
- 13:03Speaker 1: who was first overall last year. Trevor's want to oh
- 13:09Speaker 1: in the postseason. So you know, it's a start not
- 13:12Speaker 1: where he obviously or or myself where we need to
- 13:15Speaker 1: be or want to be, but it's a start in
- 13:17Speaker 1: the right direction, you know, just much like this season
- 13:19Speaker 1: has been for us and um, you just want to
- 13:22Speaker 1: be at the end of each year. You want to
- 13:24Speaker 1: be in the conversation. You want to have those meaningful games.
- 13:27Speaker 1: You want to be playing for the a f C South,
- 13:30Speaker 1: giving yourself an opportunity to get in the postseason. And
- 13:33Speaker 1: then you gotta win postseason games and that is a
- 13:35Speaker 1: measure of you know, quarterbacks, I think in the league.
- 13:39Speaker 1: But ultimately, you know, you have to win the you
- 13:41Speaker 1: have to win the championship to to really you know,
- 13:44Speaker 1: take that next step. You got to score some points,
- 13:47Speaker 1: certainly against Patrick Mahomes, Brian Baldinger, Cam Wolf, what is
- 13:51Speaker 1: the plan of attack here for Doug Peterson big picture
- 13:54Speaker 1: against Mahomes. Andrew Ale left Jaguashs practice in the group
- 14:02Speaker 1: a yeah below a less than an hour ago. I
- 14:07Speaker 1: love Jaguars practice in the group. That really stood out
- 14:09Speaker 1: to me as far as their energy was their defensive front.
- 14:12Speaker 1: Because this is Patrick Mahomes week. When they played two
- 14:15Speaker 1: months ago, they sat Patrick Mahomes zero times. I heard
- 14:18Speaker 1: the work unacceptable in the locker room to describe that.
- 14:21Speaker 1: And there's three guys I really want to focus on
- 14:23Speaker 1: that you guys should know this week Josh Allen, tray
- 14:26Speaker 1: Von Walker, and Roy Robertson, Harrison Harris. Those three guys
- 14:31Speaker 1: really disrupted the game against the Chargers and they are
- 14:34Speaker 1: gonna be a huge factor on whether or not the
- 14:35Speaker 1: Jacks can pull the upset this week. I talked to
- 14:37Speaker 1: Josh Allen this week and he said to me, look,
- 14:41Speaker 1: that first game we played that wasn't us, but we
- 14:43Speaker 1: are ready this time. And I asked him, what's the
- 14:46Speaker 1: plan for Patrick Mahomes. He paused, he chuckled and said,
- 14:49Speaker 1: tune in to thirty on Saturday and you'll see You'll
- 14:53Speaker 1: see that three man front really got a lot of
- 14:56Speaker 1: disruption against the Chargers, and they know the difference between
- 14:58Speaker 1: Patrick Mahomes when he's comfortable in the in the pocket
- 15:01Speaker 1: versus when he is pressured. And I also was told
- 15:04Speaker 1: if they can't get pressure he with that front early,
- 15:06Speaker 1: they won't be afraid to be aggressive bringing blitz Is
- 15:08Speaker 1: off the edge. Their safety rat Sean Jenkins has been
- 15:11Speaker 1: really effective for that. But number one, and really the
- 15:13Speaker 1: only thing in defensive meeting rooms this week is pressuring
- 15:16Speaker 1: Patrick balls Baldickan the jack score enough points? Sure, yeah,
- 15:21Speaker 1: I mean look you look at the way this offense
- 15:23Speaker 1: functions right now, Andrew and all the roles that they have.
- 15:26Speaker 1: I mean, Christin Kirk is their slot receiver. Za Jones
- 15:30Speaker 1: is their outside receiver. Marvin Jones is the guy that
- 15:33Speaker 1: they count on to beat one on one coverage. Uh.
- 15:36Speaker 1: Evan and Group is their flex tight end. Travis CTN
- 15:39Speaker 1: could do it all. And Trevor Lawrence right now behind
- 15:41Speaker 1: what I call Andrew the Duval wall the offensive line
- 15:45Speaker 1: right to left. I mean that wall in front of
- 15:48Speaker 1: Trevor Lawrence has been really good. They were good last
- 15:50Speaker 1: weeks against the Chargers, and so he's got options. The
- 15:54Speaker 1: offense makes a lot of sense. It's creative, And I
- 15:57Speaker 1: would just say this. I know Doug Peterson very well.
- 15:59Speaker 1: He's a great collaborator, takes in a lot of information.
- 16:02Speaker 1: He's got a couple of cards up his sleeve, whether
- 16:04Speaker 1: it's situational football down distance. He started the game against
- 16:08Speaker 1: Kansas City Weekden with an on side kick. He's got
- 16:11Speaker 1: a couple of cards to play that nobody knows. Only him,
- 16:14Speaker 1: Trevor and a couple of guys on the team will know.
- 16:16Speaker 1: We'll see if he needs to pull those out. But
- 16:18Speaker 1: to answer your question, I believe they could go up
- 16:20Speaker 1: and down the field. Yeah, Doug Peterson pretty good. Um
- 16:23Speaker 1: at the play calling. Doug Peterson pretty good Like Andy Reid.
- 16:27Speaker 1: He learned from Andy Reid on pulling exceedingly creative. I've
- 16:31Speaker 1: never seen that stuff out of his pocket. So the
- 16:39Speaker 1: Ravens are looking for a new offensive coordinator? Are there
- 16:42Speaker 1: going to be looking for a new quarterback? Greg Roman
- 16:44Speaker 1: and the team parted ways today. Lamar Jackson is just
- 16:49Speaker 1: finishing up his fifth season with all kinds of questions
- 16:52Speaker 1: as to his future moments. Ago coach John Harbaugh and
- 16:57Speaker 1: GM Eric de Costa on the podium. Well, it certainly
- 17:01Speaker 1: takes two to tango. But I think Lamar and I
- 17:03Speaker 1: have a great relationship. I think we communicate quite often.
- 17:08Speaker 1: We spent some time together today. As a matter of fact,
- 17:11Speaker 1: we've spoken throughout the season multiple times. And you know,
- 17:15Speaker 1: these negotiations, Jamison, they all happened differently. You know, um
- 17:19Speaker 1: Ronnie Stanley's contract took about a year and a half.
- 17:23Speaker 1: Um Mark Andrews contract took probably three or four days.
- 17:28Speaker 1: You know, we did ro Quan's contract over the span
- 17:31Speaker 1: of six days, over the course of one month, basically
- 17:34Speaker 1: is what we did. So they happen in different ways. UM.
- 17:38Speaker 1: I wouldn't characterize the percentages of getting any deal done
- 17:41Speaker 1: or how long it's gonna take, except to say that
- 17:43Speaker 1: we'll communicate effectively, will be as fair as we can be,
- 17:46Speaker 1: and we'll try to hammer out a deal and hopefully
- 17:48Speaker 1: we can get to that point. Lamar Lamar Jackson is
- 17:51Speaker 1: our quarterback. I mean he's been our quarterback. Everything we've
- 17:54Speaker 1: done in terms of building our offense and building our team,
- 17:57Speaker 1: how we think in terms of people and put people
- 18:00Speaker 1: around him is based on this incredible young man in
- 18:02Speaker 1: his talent, his ability and its compared to do this.
- 18:05Speaker 1: You know, he and I were talking today too, and
- 18:08Speaker 1: the things about Lamar that to me stands out. He's
- 18:12Speaker 1: an incredible competitor. I mean, Lamar Jackson all he wants
- 18:15Speaker 1: to do is win. That press conference will be over analyzed,
- 18:20Speaker 1: I'm sure the remainder of the off season until we
- 18:22Speaker 1: have a deal. Ian Rappaboard, Tom Pelicero, Brian Baldinger now
- 18:26Speaker 1: with me again. No Greg Roman, they parted ways this morning. Ian.
- 18:30Speaker 1: You also tweeted that John Harbaugh said that there is
- 18:33Speaker 1: a two hundred percent chance that Lamar is back. Two
- 18:38Speaker 1: hundred Yeah, I mean that's a lot of percentum. So
- 18:44Speaker 1: there's a couple of things that were very clear from
- 18:46Speaker 1: this press conversation. Lamar Jackson's not going anywhere, and what
- 18:49Speaker 1: that means now is as Erica Costa Lamar Jackson. Of course,
- 18:53Speaker 1: Lamar Jackson represents himself. Erica Costa and Lamar Jackson. Now
- 18:56Speaker 1: we're gonna get together and try to negotiate a long
- 18:59Speaker 1: term deal to keep him there. If they do not,
- 19:01Speaker 1: he is getting the tag. That is what we learned today,
- 19:04Speaker 1: No doubt about it. Lamar Jackson will be franchise tag.
- 19:07Speaker 1: We'll see what tag. It ends up being the exclusive tag.
- 19:10Speaker 1: Is far more expensive, but does give the Ravens control
- 19:13Speaker 1: of the situation. The non exclusive tag does mean someone
- 19:16Speaker 1: else could potentially put together an office sheet for two
- 19:19Speaker 1: first round picks. But Lamar Jackson is their quarterback. They
- 19:22Speaker 1: believe he is their future, which is not a surprise,
- 19:24Speaker 1: that's the direction it has been going. But he will
- 19:26Speaker 1: also be involved in the higher of the new o
- 19:29Speaker 1: C and Lamar Jackson himself tweeted earlier today about how
- 19:33Speaker 1: he was in a pro style offensive Louisville. So I
- 19:35Speaker 1: wouldn't just limited to basically what Greg Roman did. I think.
- 19:42Speaker 1: It's also bears mentioning here that John Harbaugh and Eric
- 19:44Speaker 1: da Costa talked a lot about what potentially the relationship
- 19:48Speaker 1: is going to be moving forward here between the sides.
- 19:50Speaker 1: Both of them said that we love Lamar is John
- 19:53Speaker 1: Harbaugh put it, I want him here, Eric Quantum here,
- 19:55Speaker 1: and Lamar wants to be here. They both spend time
- 19:58Speaker 1: with him through the course of today. Harbaugh said he
- 20:01Speaker 1: will have a voice in the offensive coordinator selection, and
- 20:04Speaker 1: our said this is going to be a highly sought
- 20:07Speaker 1: after job. That would indicate that they are pretty confident
- 20:11Speaker 1: Lamar is going to show up and play on the
- 20:13Speaker 1: franchise tag even if no long term deal gets done,
- 20:16Speaker 1: and based upon the way that Lamar has proceeded to
- 20:18Speaker 1: this point, you would say that's a decent bet. He
- 20:21Speaker 1: played for one point seven million dollars in one which
- 20:25Speaker 1: if he had an agent, no agent would have advised
- 20:27Speaker 1: him to do that. He played this season for about
- 20:29Speaker 1: twenty three million dollars, and the franchise tag will be
- 20:31Speaker 1: worth far more than that. The only way that Lamar, too,
- 20:34Speaker 1: is ever going to get the leverage to potentially command
- 20:36Speaker 1: the fully guaranteed contract that he wants would be to
- 20:40Speaker 1: play out one and probably two tags. Does it get there?
- 20:44Speaker 1: That will depend on in Eric to Costa's words, there
- 20:46Speaker 1: are two to tango and actually hammer out a long
- 20:49Speaker 1: term deal now and right down and around the belt Way. Obviously,
- 20:52Speaker 1: we've gone through this franchise tag game before with the
- 20:56Speaker 1: Washington team and with Kirk Cousins Brian Baldinger. They're going
- 20:59Speaker 1: to find a new offensive coordinator and what do you do?
- 21:04Speaker 1: Can you rely on this run heavy Everything has to
- 21:09Speaker 1: do with the ground game and Lamar's legs kind of offense. Well,
- 21:15Speaker 1: I'll start by saying, you know, just listening to everybody
- 21:18Speaker 1: talk here that everybody has tremendous respect for this organization
- 21:22Speaker 1: top to bottom, from Steve Bushetti all the way down. Uh,
- 21:25Speaker 1: they run things the right way. This is gonna be
- 21:27Speaker 1: a difficult negotiation. We saw with Kyler Murray last year,
- 21:30Speaker 1: but they got it done. Uh. It's encouraging to hear
- 21:32Speaker 1: what Ian just said about the both sides are talking,
- 21:35Speaker 1: you know, rather it's with Eric or with the coach.
- 21:37Speaker 1: Right now, discussions are in place, and I would say
- 21:40Speaker 1: that look at change the coordinator. I think Greg Roman
- 21:43Speaker 1: was really good for Lamar. Remember Greg was there when
- 21:46Speaker 1: Joe Flacco was was the quarterback. They weren't they were struggling.
- 21:49Speaker 1: They turned to Lamar mid season and the season turned around.
- 21:52Speaker 1: They were in the playoffs. So you look, look change
- 21:56Speaker 1: the coordinator. The fact that Lamar has a say in
- 21:58Speaker 1: it is encouraging. All this stuff that happened and has
- 22:01Speaker 1: been reported today. I think it's really encouraging because I
- 22:04Speaker 1: thought it's see fracture this relationship between Lamar and the organization.
- 22:08Speaker 1: At the end of the season. We haven't heard from
- 22:10Speaker 1: him since December four when he was injured. I wasn't
- 22:13Speaker 1: there in the playoff loss to Cincinnati, but that this
- 22:16Speaker 1: is all encouraging. And the fact is there's no Lamar
- 22:19Speaker 1: Jackson in this draft. Whatever offense you want to run,
- 22:22Speaker 1: that Lamar Jackson is walking through anybody's door. And I
- 22:25Speaker 1: don't believe there's one in free agency too. So I
- 22:27Speaker 1: think everything that's happened here today probably this week, is
- 22:31Speaker 1: encouraging for the Ravens and for Lamar to get something done.
- 22:34Speaker 1: Lamar Jackson did not finish the season. Ravens were one
- 22:37Speaker 1: and done. Lamar Jackson and the two sides and now
- 22:39Speaker 1: try to get something done. To the fact that they're
- 22:40Speaker 1: talking today, probably a good thing. Baldy tom Ian, thank you,
- 22:46Speaker 1: see my big I gotta meet know. I play with
- 22:53Speaker 1: one game and the one game whatever. And he gets
- 22:57Speaker 1: away from Bruce Servant throws on the run wide out,
- 22:59Speaker 1: but the lights up matchup? Can we call him playground party?
- 23:03Speaker 1: How does he extend? Not like a pretty good one,
- 23:09Speaker 1: pretty good party? Pretty good? You're pretty good fun when
- 23:16Speaker 1: it's free about sometimes on the ball point to pretty
- 23:24Speaker 1: gonna throwback metal wide open, Deebo Samuel down the side
- 23:27Speaker 1: like debot touchdown. Yeah, football's fun. Pretty good. This guy
- 23:43Speaker 1: is as well. Dre green Law joins us live on
- 23:46Speaker 1: forty Niners Camp. How fun was that dre last week?
- 23:50Speaker 1: That's amazing, man, just to be able to get that
- 23:53Speaker 1: first playoff win. Man, to get this thing going. Man,
- 23:56Speaker 1: it always feels good. You were laughing. I'm told when
- 23:59Speaker 1: Jimmy Ward's going pretty good. Anything that that it has
- 24:05Speaker 1: done that surprised you yet, because everyone I talked to says,
- 24:10Speaker 1: oh no, no, we we've we've seen this from day one. Yeah.
- 24:14Speaker 1: I mean, now, anything he does, I mean it doesn't
- 24:17Speaker 1: surprise me at all, because I mean that's just who
- 24:19Speaker 1: he is. Uh. I mean, he's been showing weeks and
- 24:23Speaker 1: weeks now that I mean, he's he's a he's a
- 24:25Speaker 1: pretty freaking good quarterback in Uh. I mean, it's just
- 24:29Speaker 1: been amazing to be able to watch him and be
- 24:31Speaker 1: able to, you know, be his teammate and play with him. Um,
- 24:34Speaker 1: but he has made some mistakes. I want to put
- 24:37Speaker 1: up one of the mistakes. I know George Couldle didn't
- 24:38Speaker 1: like this mistake. Can we do this? Back in December,
- 24:41Speaker 1: did you, Drake Greenlaw get one of these Christmas cards
- 24:45Speaker 1: that Brock Purty sent around with his roommate Nick Sichel
- 24:49Speaker 1: and Alfredo Gutierrez who's your player from Mexico? Part of
- 24:52Speaker 1: the International Pathway program there. Did you get one of
- 24:55Speaker 1: these cards? Uh? You know what, I didn't get one
- 24:58Speaker 1: of those cards, but uh, I definitely saw it. I'm
- 25:02Speaker 1: actually lock your neighbors with parties. So I saw the
- 25:05Speaker 1: art and uh, I mean, yeah, it was. It's pretty interesting, man,
- 25:08Speaker 1: And it's a nice little holiday card there, but it
- 25:11Speaker 1: also speaks to I think, how young and and and
- 25:14Speaker 1: how much fun he's having. I mean, those are his
- 25:16Speaker 1: roommates and we're talking about a quarterback that might lead
- 25:19Speaker 1: you guys to the super Bowl, and he's just a
- 25:21Speaker 1: kid with a couple of roommates, right, I mean that's
- 25:24Speaker 1: I mean, that's kind of how we all are on
- 25:26Speaker 1: a team. As a team, you know, we're brothers, roommates,
- 25:28Speaker 1: were brothers. Uh, We've got great relationships with each other
- 25:32Speaker 1: and we love each other. And um, I mean that
- 25:35Speaker 1: right there just shows a camaraderie to the love that
- 25:37Speaker 1: we got for each other first. So for sure, all right, Drey,
- 25:40Speaker 1: let's talk about this game. Obviously one of the best
- 25:41Speaker 1: rivalries in the NFL, especially in the postseason. You guys
- 25:44Speaker 1: beat them last year. Charles A. Menat who your teammate
- 25:46Speaker 1: said that Monday night he was rooting for the Cowboys
- 25:50Speaker 1: because he wanted that rivalry. He wanted that juice. Were
- 25:53Speaker 1: you rooting for the Cowboys? Uh? I wasn't rooting for them. Actually,
- 25:59Speaker 1: I figured that they were the better team. So actually,
- 26:03Speaker 1: I mean everybody kind of figured they were gonna win.
- 26:05Speaker 1: But uh, you know, I was kind of one of
- 26:08Speaker 1: the verse. One of the play Tom Brady again to
- 26:11Speaker 1: get that ball, another ball, but everything to get a
- 26:14Speaker 1: deck ball to So let's get that video up here.
- 26:18Speaker 1: A couple of weeks ago, Tom Brady comes back home.
- 26:21Speaker 1: You guys beat him. You asked for the autograph. You
- 26:24Speaker 1: actually took my question, Dre. I was going to ask you,
- 26:28Speaker 1: are you going to ask for Dax autograph if you win? Nah? Nah,
- 26:34Speaker 1: I mean he's a he's a good quarterback. But I
- 26:37Speaker 1: just needed one autograph and I get it. So I
- 26:40Speaker 1: got the goat. Do you think last year's game, Dre,
- 26:44Speaker 1: and how it ended with the Cowboys the clock runs out,
- 26:49Speaker 1: that they couldn't line up. You were on the field
- 26:50Speaker 1: for that last play. Does that at all factor here?
- 26:55Speaker 1: Obviously it's part of the history of this rivalry, but
- 26:58Speaker 1: does this play any part this weekend. Uh, you know,
- 27:02Speaker 1: we know they're coming in with a lot of just revenge.
- 27:06Speaker 1: You know, we were the team that kind of got
- 27:08Speaker 1: him out last year, so they feel like they got
- 27:10Speaker 1: a lot to uh to prove, to show the world.
- 27:13Speaker 1: And uh, you know, for us, uh, this is about
- 27:16Speaker 1: being us, you know, being who we are, who we've
- 27:19Speaker 1: been all year, playing our style defense, playing our kind
- 27:22Speaker 1: of ball, and uh, you know we'll let Sunday, will
- 27:26Speaker 1: let Sunday later on decide, you know, who the best is.
- 27:28Speaker 1: But you know, for us, it's just about you know,
- 27:30Speaker 1: going in and playing our type of ball and going
- 27:33Speaker 1: to get the win and going to the next next round.
- 27:35Speaker 1: It's just real Quicker, I know you're on Niners came,
- 27:37Speaker 1: you're not at home, But just for the record, that
- 27:39Speaker 1: that ball behind you dre over your left shoulder, that's
- 27:41Speaker 1: not your your Tom Brady autograph ball right now. No,
- 27:44Speaker 1: that's not it. That's not it. Maybe the offseason will
- 27:48Speaker 1: do it on zoom from the house. You can show
- 27:49Speaker 1: that ball, Drake Green, good luck this weekend. Man. Hope
- 27:52Speaker 1: to see in Arizona when the bill Kick up the
